And you can hear it you can just you can hear the exhaust you can hear the sit
right now that we've earned I'd say after a long ass weekend from the lowliest
peasant to the mightiest Pharaoh doesn't enjoy a good a good sit all right we'll
just roll in low energy you know what here's how low we are my phones over
there so here you get to hear me get up and go get it over here because we're
a professional oh that's lazy damn that's how we do it but you have lots of
energy now because what are you drinking over there I'm drinking Red Bull
purple edition purple and is that you asked me yeah if it was is that grape
and I'm and I'm like no it's just purple edition so it's some type of drink so
while we're going back there and we decided to leave it alone we left it
alone just leave it on the table but this is a safe place for you to yeah we
don't get like whatever you like here we don't need we don't need to get into
that we don't need to you know like they'll like save that for a minute you
said man my hungies oh my god my hungies yeah there's some fried chicken
upstairs yeah and you went fine yeah it doesn't always have to be a good I
rated it I gave it the hyper game pro rating you did I like what you've been
doing I want to give you a look some shoutouts on your Twitter this weekend
that you're bringing back the game pro hype man face yeah he just posts so good
it's just a picture of the game he's playing and then one of the faces going
ah yeah aren't games yeah yeah no like this I'm good the snacks at the twitch
lounge they have these red velvet smushy cookies with smushies in the middle
that's a hype game pro yeah yeah out of five yeah on a scale from oh this made
it all worth it he goes what's this new Twitter meme of colorful backgrounds with
hype faces oh wow he's swag I forgot you're like 10 oh you incredibly skilled
baby yeah that's yeah that's how you filter out 70% a game pro throwback
right there yeah well so worth it um yeah packs cast packs he eats bad blah
packs eats packs eats cast come eat said packs eats dollars yeah
Pokemon puff it's it's just cold outside it's brutal but I had a good packs I had
a good packs all in all solid packs yeah um I had a good packs because I made a
commitment to not destroying any of my days by waiting for a big triple a game
that's a three and a half hour line you play lawbreakers I saw a lot like as much
as I love arms and I want to get in there I'm not spending my whole packs day
or at least half of it literally with three and a half hours lining up to get
at it you know it just wasn't gonna happen so I spent most of my time at the
indies you know and that was a good ass time how about you guys I enjoyed you
take this yeah same situation for me big thing for me I mean especially for
conventions like these like I don't get to see all my like YouTube internet
friends like all the time so this is usually good opportunity to do that and
it's local ish so I spent more time with indies no triple a's at all and didn't
want to wait in line check that sonic mania just be tight would you would you
think of we talked about this a little bit earlier what do you think about that
new level I thought so I was in the same board with you kind of time over it's
it's easy to get a little lost in it sort of and not every it's neon disco
musicopolis I believe it's just like level that comes after the Green Hill
like in a sonic game right yeah they plop you in a city and give you all these
flashing lights and things you could do they managed to capture that spirit
of like always feeling like maybe there's three or four ways to complete
like a platformer which is something that was cool about sonic you know I mean
it felt it felt less linear that way but yeah there were a lot of enemies where
it wasn't really clear things happening that you didn't know that it would hurt
you like there are razor blades that fall from the sky but there's like this
little spherical enemy that has three spheres and if you're lucky you might
land in between them but if you hit the spheres and around him it actually hits
you yeah you're better off just avoiding him it felt like for now we weren't
sure if this level is actually the second level in the game because maybe
that enemy is introduced in better spots and more linear levels are you able to
learn because it was just the sonic mania thing proudly bought brought to us
by our friends at some computer card company yeah so weird how that was set
Sega this year fuck the booth they just there was it was like sonic mania was
they're playable with a demo and it was just around the back corner at a booth
at a vans in the parking lot yeah a wallet-sized sign that says sonic mania
playable here you know two benefits one no line no line no one knew no one knew
and also the dude that runs the sonic head target cow was there I probably
stood right next to him and had no idea yeah that guy's a legend right now he's
a hero like that they say that they should have said guy that runs like
Virgil superstar yeah that'd be great that'd be great so sonic mania what
else sonic mania I think yeah that was that was like one random surprise thing
that came out there yeah I okay I guess I wrote my list of like what I looked at
and like that's what what I'll start off going down lists are good look they
list things in an easy to read format and you're able to get this information
out to the masses mm-hmm list can be bad however when they're that's it's just a
like easy YouTube format that is exploitable and not always what do you
mean well I don't know what I mean Austin oh no all of our friends that
have talked headless gangbusters on them the call out to everyone including
ourselves yeah we're all under the tree together though it's an easy bus like
let's not pretend you know strivers very welcoming and warm on that bus it's just
waves you in yo we out here is cold we want to heat up yeah I need a big spike
video right now lots of girls waving their titties out of that bus and you're
like I need to get on this bus just like you're gonna regret it a little bit
but just like fuck it right now top 10 worst anime waifus right now you just
throw it out there and you're just like yeah fight me world yeah anyway so no I
this week I finally I got my switch yeah and like beautiful yes it's a nice
machine and I'm I love the fact that I'm booting it up looking at the screen and
it's not like why can't they do it like the Vita or why can't they do it like
even an iPhone for that matter like a real a real screen that's nice it's a nice
like and make it run really fast it feels current right though and the you
know 3ds 2ds DS DSI all of it like they didn't feel like there were current
hardware yeah DS was for like three months and then it became quite a
current I but if you had a smartphone you like it just no I mean I mean the
smartphone penetration was not quite there after three months of the DS then
it was out of day there was something irksome about them releasing the new new
3ds and being like okay it's 2000 and like 2016 and you're selling me a 240p
screen device what are we doing resistive touch yeah I mean like at a
low price I guess is why why you know right but like it just kind of was like
eh so it was nice to like pull this out of the package you can be like here we
are you know modern technology modern we're here and and yeah they're doing it
the last week when Matt you had those little you brought the little joy cons
and the one when I tried to use them I tried to use them without the two slide
on add additions exactly those make all the difference in the world between
whether it's playable or not to me and having those on made it totally fine and
I jumped on the e-shop and grabbed I think six of the nine things on that
screen right off the bat cuz oh I said sooner I grabbed set sooner I grabbed
Bomberman snipper clippers Zelda thanks you gave me that and the two
shovel nights yeah so like most of these shop I just guys grabbed it so you did
the e-shop I did the e-shop yeah and then Neo Geo just like vomited in the e-shop
as they do yeah as they do as I got I got a role here I was perfect they got a
hustle I respected I love those Bomberman zero came out to play that for a
little bit are you mean no sorry not bombers that sorry blaster master zero
okay my anti-creates okay so I booted that up really really briefly and that's
like fun because it's a combination of the weird anime style opening of the
Famicom bomb blaster master why do I keep saying bomber me and the American
one which is like no my toad right now to a weird hole and the Japanese one
where it's like a shonen hero going like I must save the world I have no idea
what the original is like it's that okay right so now it's a combination of both
where I'm a Japanese shonen hero oh no my frog it's the perfect narrative now
hmm so that was me because they had a booth at this packs okay blaster master
zero selling posters and like a little anti-creates but which is cute did did it
either you guys grab a pro controller with it or like yeah I did well I passed
in mind I was actually I was at Paul Richie's house and I tried all of them
mm-hmm like with breath of the wild stuff I ended up just really liking the one
that the default yeah actually I got the I got the version of the default that it
should have came with where it has a USB-C charger on the top oh nice yeah
two controllers I'm not gonna remember to like swap them out and throw it back in
the system to make sure that I'll properly try mm-hmm I like the size of it feels
pretty good I totally get the ergonomics of the pro controller though yeah it's
it's for me it's just gonna be a default preference because I think I've big
dumb hands yeah it's goofy you know so like like certain games you know like
snipper clippers for example like that's a game where I'm like yeah we're playing
and it's goofy and like you're doing on one-two switch you know and like
it's a very simple thing and you're not really invested in hours and hours
of gameplay it's fine you know I'm gonna put the controller down right after
that but for a breath of the wild definitely gonna be using the pro
controller I might feel different with Street Fighter come though yeah well
that's for me that I mean I want to speak everything else is a joke really but
yeah the but but at the same time though the the whatever the wonky puppy
controller you know what I mean like you slide those in and like I'm like that's
fine too like I can totally run with that as a pro controller like substitutes
when the one that the time comes if need be but yeah like between between all
those games man snipper clippers is a good time snipper clippers is so much
fun snipper clippers snipper in well now you got me like second-guessing
myself like I love it doesn't sound racist what I hear it when I hear it
really quick it's like it's like that term Liam came up with that Mario
enemy he snipes jiggie snipes no no not at all snipper clips or something about
it where it doesn't hit the ear right not at all I don't know there's nothing
there it's not really but there's words words like if you want to like like
break apart you know the you know Nazi codes yeah you like like you can take
jiggy like I might come from jigaboo if you want and you know like Snipes I
don't know what I don't know but no it's it's it's not that it's happy fun
time and and the characters look like they're from World of Gumball yeah no
yeah you nailed that last time you brought it up the animation styles very
very cute and I like I like how you know as you kind of go through it you get
like whatever the shape is that you both co-op cut out you have to try to guess
what the end result is gonna be there's like that one goofy one we're just like
it's a dog reading a newspaper sensible chuckle it's reading a newspaper
that's pretty good pretty tight like the basketball and I don't really like the
karate one too much oh I didn't even play any of those actually at least in the
co-op yeah this versus all right and they have an air hockey where you know
each side you're sort of like a puck and it's not cool because you can still clip
holes into each other okay you're out on offense like that and and they have like
okay yeah didn't even spend any time looking at those huh that's awesome we
gotta go back because yeah I saw four player stuff there one to switch you
know it's one to switch it's it's yeah hotel room party whatever last night
thinking game what was what was nice that I because I didn't like really I saw
the original you know presentation and then like I didn't catch what the full
selection would be so I'm going through the list of like six or so and I'm like
okay of these six or so I really only like draw and what was there was like one
other thing and then it's like oh good now that you've played the six here's
the massive list of the whole game right because they lock away most of it for
you as at first while they want you to play the first couple games you know
that's what the hang of it it's yeah I feel like it's gonna be like we sports
and that it's just gave it to us yeah it was like 50 bucks it was a full price
thing was absolutely absolutely not worth the price one to switch is a poor
man's Nintendo world and that's a poor man's we sports in the sense that like
this is going to this like fully shows people like what this system is about
yeah like it does like it's it's three rungs below about like exactly like it's
a party game for sure but it doesn't have that accessibility like Nintendo
world did and then above that we sports world was just like everyone development
cost was your basic system like presentation like your your your dev
test room yeah with a camcorder recording people doing the thing and then
that's it you know like it it was like it should have been free absolutely
should have been free and like it's good like I'm having it on the switch like I
know it's gonna have its uses in some scenarios where it'll be like hey you
want to play some damn quick job for a minute you know or whatever but well
stuff for us like my friends a lot of the games oh yeah yeah the look at it
because they're basically it says the game will try to look you in the eye
exactly so you know they don't want you actually paying attention to the screen
really yeah but I kind of feel like it's like the the pricing on that like
pricing is gonna actually become it's gonna be an issue that'll I think you'll
get repeated a couple times tonight pricing on Wii games cuz I know we
game sorry on switch games cuz yeah that should have been if not free at the
very least under 10 bucks you know like a just here you go this is gonna show
you this is gonna get you started no I thought you're gonna go if not free they
pay you like when you got loaded here's $50 into your e-shop wallet last week
you were talking about Breath of the Wild and how addictive that was and how
much fun you were having dude dude this is really bad now because I bought four
Meebo's all for Breath of the Wild I got the master yeah we talked I got the
master edition not the one with the the master sword in the little column but I
got that I went to Lucre the booth and got the Breath of the Wild then I saw
everyone getting it yeah I was like no no I'm in super hard I have yet to fight a
boss okay okay I don't care so I mean I care but like I I went to the Zoras I
hung out they're like you really need to help and I'm like I think I'll go off
whatever I'm still just like what what what what's on the agenda for today yeah
like I'm still a like I'm not a completionist and that like I have to do
everything but it's literally I'm just wandering around doing whatever strikes
my fancy still and I'm still having a great time two things that you brought
up that I'm totally that I was like oh yeah is that gonna be the case and now I
totally I know one of them two things one oh yeah that games hard and the sense
that it's like came over it's not that it's hard compared to like every other
game you're used to but for a Zelda game the difficulty is unexpectedly high
because I remember like I one of the first things I did was you run down the
little cliffside from the demo and I you get to like a little book
goblin base and you meet like one of the like tougher book obelisks like the
purple ones and I'm like okay let's see what I can do with this dodge system or
this parry and block and whatever dude swings once and you're the fucking days
yeah one swing all three of your hearts done I'm like that's what we're doing
no that's how we're playing this game dude the best running there's a river
monster and like it like it gets out of the one you're like all right let's not
get run that fast by the water and it's like post haste and hits you and like
three-fourths here the best right now is like even even where I am and like you
know I've leveled up hearts and I've level up stamina but you just go to
Hyrule Field and you're like and you're like and you're singing yourself you're
gonna be doing and then guardians come out and guardians like no music here
game over what today today I was in a line and I start up and I'm like all
right I'm gonna go into Hyrule Field and then a guard I see a guardian like yeah
I see you see you and I'm like just running over here I'm like calling for
schmuckers schmuckers is not coming she's somewhere else and I'm like okay I'll
just keep running and I'm watching him and I'm like going yeah yeah yeah and then
I turn and go oh no and there's a guardian right there I'm like god damn it a
swarm of keys come down yeah everything is converging and I'm like game over and
I'm like I'm gonna I'm gonna go back to Kakariko I'm gonna hang out for a little
bit what I like to is like when you eat shit in Breath of the Wild like your
body doesn't you bet you don't ragdoll but link goes flying and rolls off the
ground like never before usually you just used to be like you know and in this
game is like half of your equipment breaks and you're like what I'm like oh
god I have nothing you see that mashup raise yeah because for the longest time
I thought when do you get that little snow speeder machine that little thing
that he like surfs on and then I'm just waiting for something to load and says if
you want to surf remember just to equip your shield while you're jumping in the
air that's what that is yeah I never I thought that was so tight yeah you're
saying snow is so speeder and I was like are you thinking of the shield yeah so
you see that mashup where he jumps off a cliff starts going to the shield each
shit super hard start flying in the air then you start to hear the music here I
am all the time and I'm like this does remind me of a toy hot game no it's
and it's like definitely harder than I expected in those are in that regard and
I learned from that first lesson I'm just like okay just do not get hit don't
fuck around right and then the second thing is it I was worried about like you
know Nintendo going with an open-world format a little bit because I was like
what if it's boring what if it's yeah you can go anywhere and do anything like a
lot of these other games but you kind of don't really want to you just done it
before right you know like what if I open up the map and I see a bunch of
side mission icons and then that's that you know and I haven't had that at all
it's weird and I'm still trying to figure out what exactly is about this open
world like not just the plateau but like coming off of it as well that like I
rotate the camera everywhere there's always at least two things of interest
or I'm like yeah okay that let's go see what this is about and on the way to the
thing of interest which is usually they also catch yeah which is usually like a
dungeon or a you know Shire a shrine exactly you will catch something all
like that you couldn't see coming over the horizon that is now a fun encounter
and I did find a boss that way that you like you said you haven't found a boss
like I ran right into one well was it a divine beast or was it like some just
something that had a large life bar and a name yeah large life bar and music
yeah okay I think I think I might know which one you mean but like for me like
I think I said this a little bit I think it comes down to a well-paced map
design where someone like made a giant map then just looked at it logically and
said well if a player does this player does that there should be something in
like the 360 degree radius that there's something of interest that's different
than the thing that's already there so make sure that this field is populated
with like two guardians maybe a shrine maybe whatever and I think it's just the
general variety in a general area and not like when I was saying last week I
was like I was playing Far Cry there's 17 of the same type of mission yeah or
like huntable or collectible and it's I think that goes a long way to do you know
that's what they did a GDC they had that talk I had that talk and one of the
vet one of the head developers of the team he came out and he showed some of
the like I guess like the sketches they use and what they did was they used like
sprites from the original Zelda and they mapped everything out in 2d first to
determine I remember seeing the slides of that so if you see graph they put
graphics of it looks really tight yeah yeah I yeah go ahead the only thing I
want to say is like I don't know how to explain how but it's almost like exploring
through that world what they got right was that it always feels like the world
is going on like everything is going on even if I'm not around you know what I
mean I'm just showing up to things that are already happening and it's not just
following me there's definitely like there's moments where like it's like
okay I come into the camp and I see like the Bocoblins are like chasing a
little like borer around and one or chasing a person that's going help help
me right or whatever the case may be in like I'm like okay that's like a moment
that's definitely supposed to happen but like yeah just last night like I had
that thing I guess that you were sort of hinting at where I'm like okay I'm
about to enter into a shrine and then I'm like what why is the lighting a
little bit if what's going oh my god and the skies are red and everything has
you done that no okay so things just change and it gets really scary you're
like oh you know um and I guess like it makes me think that like some of the
way the map was designed what okay this is not something that I think the game
tells you or if it does maybe some load screen tips someone said in that in
that 30 second window and the skies are different cooking becomes really easy
oh shit like there's this extra buffer cooking because I guess you're so scared
when the world is ending it's time to go to the A.M.
someone said that I'm not sure dude but there's all these funny things that like
that I don't think the game ever tells you that like some people are finding out
like there's a lot of weapons you pick up to say rusty whatever yeah usually in
like burnt out like like destroyed rock sword it's like if you throw a rusty
sword near an octa rock like the guys that come out of the water yeah he'll eat
it then spit it out and it'll be fresh and new fuck off so the rust if you throw
it at the ground something like that someone someone took a screenshot if you
throw it an octa rock or a plane around your octa rock it'll eat it and it'll
clean off the rust and then its durability will be better god I don't
even a loading screen tip and the loading screen tips are good yeah a lot of
them I didn't know it's like if your weapon's going to break like if it's
throw it for double damage throw it for double damage that's a great tip that's
a good tip man um no I the only thing I can I like my my brand does when I look
look at that map and I think about how it's plotted in such a deliberate way
where I'm sure they have like the metrics on like thousands of people's
adventures out from where they go the first time who turns around immediately
and heads north right who goes backwards above the camp who goes
straightforward ignores everything else like it makes me think that like they
must have designed that map in the same way that Jonathan Blow designed the
witness right where just watching everyone's sitting there and then he's
just staring over your shoulder and then internalizes what you did and then
goes alright and reflects that on his map the next time he passes over it you
know it doesn't feel like it was like let's generate random terrain and then
start dropping things in yeah you know if they definitely watched and built
highs and lows valleys you know and little things like that and put the
stuff there based on where people tend to veer off an adventure to you know and
I agree it feels so much more deliberate despite being open and that's
an amazing feeling I haven't had in anything for a while yeah I'm really
happy that like my fears about Nintendo going into this unknown territory for
them at least are totally unjustified and unfounded you know like they got it
last week was talking about that that that puzzle that you have to use the
gyros to move around like a ball in a maze right okay so I said like I was
just able to flip flip the table a bit so it hit the ball where it was supposed
to go because I couldn't do it the other way and some people said like it goes
more than that it lets you flip the entire board and it becomes flat and
it's no longer a maze just tip it and then the ball goes in no one under no
one really knows whether Nintendo said in people can figure this out they can
just ace it in one go I have no idea I'm looking at it and you can go I mean
you can replay the shrines if you want that's not outside the character of
Azelba they probably thought about it makes me think of that DS game with
Azelba more like because I remember the riddle of the puzzle but it was like you
have to close your DS yes it was ransomware glass printed something on
your map which is the most fucking it's the most a pre-cert crushing thing ever
well you shouldn't be able to do some games allow you know some games allow you
to sleep Nintendo you know like there was a specific circumstance and compliance
or okay but yeah like there was even a game where you had to it was I think it
was a cooking game was like close the lid as if you're closing the cloak
covering the pot blow right and then re-open it to get to like cool the food
and stuff like it was a whole thing yeah but no that that's that's I haven't
encountered that yet or what not it's one specific shrine I don't know if it's
if others have it because you see that I think I told you about there's there's
Sun Sun shrine to say a moderate test of strength yeah and it has one enemy like
one robot thing and it's it's rough but you can do it and then you can get one
that's a like an extreme test of strength and the best reaction is when
homework goes back into the bushes yeah when he sinks back into something when
you always go to the shrine an extreme test no come back come back yeah I love
how when you're when you're either climbing or swimming into like the
deep and you're at that middle point where you you thought you had enough
stamina but you don't we didn't and you just kind of stand there and it's like
you're not losing any stamina standing still but you're just like no I'm fine
this is where I wanted to be yeah you're floating in the water with like two
swims left I have this I have this specific thing in my journal that I can
do where you have to take pictures no you get a selection of pictures and it
says find these places in the map and each picture has like one landmark that
you go okay that's angle is there it's near the castle or something you're
trying to find these specific things they unlock like these little really cool
cutscenes and that's what I'm doing right now and just fuck you Nintendo one
of the photos is just inside a forest with nothing and there's no landmarks
there's no I'm looking at it and they do not let you zoom in on the photos at all
I'm just looking around like where where am I supposed to find a force one of the
30 I don't know like that one I'm gonna have to look up have have you tripped
across any little secret buddies or anything like that yeah no okay I just
randomly just did a thing yeah I just did it did a thing and then little
Korok popped out he's like hey my brother yeah he's like yeah you found me
yeah I'm like okay and then you just go randomly some other place you just like
what's that you just exploring and then there's another little dude and they're
like okay this is a whole thing now you know where so you don't know what those
guys I don't know what I do yet would you like to know because let me get there
let me get okay because it's it's again kind of random you need to find like
you'll find it but that's actually really important to Keith okay right now
it's fine I'll get there like right now I'm just like but that's what it's like
it's like hey what are you and the game sometimes doesn't tell you no it was it
was it was like it was rewarding natural curiosity and I don't even want to tell
you about where I did it or what I did because it's just it's just rewarding
your curiosity like there's no reason to spend a minute or two stopping and
doing this thing but then you do it and it's like oh yeah turns out that was
something after all you know and that makes me go ah let me think twice about
everything that I looked at what is it you know like any one of those moments
where you're running by you pan the camera and you're like that looks
interesting let me go oh what's that right and it's like that thought might
have been something now you know I love that thought might have been the main
thread of the game but you might have just maybe I was telling you that like I
don't say exactly what it was but there is a moment where I just like I entered
a new like sort of environment it was like a beachside thing there's like a
little village I'm like what a cool place and I'm wandering by a bridge and I
see a gigantic life form just drift by and other NPCs are all staring at it
with you and everyone's going oh like you know that those little thought bubbles
yeah they say like oh my god or like wow what's that whatever everyone's
watching this amazing thing happened and it just drifts off and then all the
other NPCs eventually just wander back to what they were doing that was just a
moment that was just a moment and there's several of these things that
happened and I've seen screenshots of people also looking and I don't know
what they do yet I haven't I don't know yeah yeah and the game doesn't tell you
what they do but it's like there is someone that can tell you but you just
caught you happen to catch that at the right time like even even the best GTA's
as as good and like as polished and as thought out they are like everyone tells
you what everything is but I find at least maybe the way Nintendo is doing
this it's like you find them out of order like oh the secret packages or this
these will only happen when that and you find that NPC and he tells you but in
this you're constantly finding new bits like you're just talking about the
little Korok you found I didn't find him until the main guy that you talked to
who explains what these are so off the bat I was like oh that's what those are
I'll look out for those but you didn't I found them you found one puzzle piece
over my dick but you never found the box no I don't know why I'm holding them
yeah and there's there's there's all these tiny little problems that I don't
care about you know what I mean there's these tiny imperfections with the game
that are like that sucks I don't care that much okay like I have different
arrow types now yeah like a fire ice whatever and when you select fire you
shoot all your fire arrows and then bonk bonk because it does not auto switch
to your standard arrows of which I have 50 right okay there's these annoyances
like that that maybe I don't know someone gives you a piece of gear that lets you
so swap out that feels like to me they're doing it's the same as when you you
have your your weapon you break it or you throw it yeah and now you're bare
handed even though you've got a bunch of other weapons in your backpack like
whatever you grab in the fight is now becomes your main weapon right and that
I think is a better choice because it makes it feel more real it makes it feel
more immersive where you're like I'm swinging this club around and then it
breaks it snaps and then I've got nothing and I know like I can like you can
just switch over in your backpack to like your best weapon or an axe or
something but I like the fact that it's like my thing broke and he that guy died
and he dropped what he was holding and now I'm gonna run over and grab that and
swing it at the other guy I totally agree with arrows though it's just
different I hear you drop your arrows that unless it's action arrow guy you're
fighting it's like the one thing because there's a lot of like it's Zelda guess
what there's gonna be things with gross eyeballs you need to shoot an arrow
and some of these things are fast and these precious little arrows and you
and there's just been a couple moments I'm like dammit I alright let me and to
actually take arrow types is a slightly more annoying than anything else
because it's a button that was your shield selection button becomes your
arrow ammo selection button when you yes press when you press the arrow
but yeah like true that it triggers these little bits like that where I'm like
that feels like the decision was made after they have the fully kitted out
character with every ability you're gonna get by the end of the game where
they're like that's fucking overlapping buttons yeah you know every one of those
d-pad buttons is gonna be like the context sensitive depending on what's in
your hand at the time probably also I'll go and say I think this is the Zelda
with the best dialogue like in terms of entertainingly written dialogue and
characters have ever seen like every major character even minor character like
random people in Kakariko village I'm like like that line is really hilarious
you're reading people's diaries and I'm like this shit's actually really funny
I'll get back to you when I meet more people when you know that yeah the
small details that I love the most is how they sort of solve the whole problem
of Zelda morality that was always around like yes you can look into anything
that you want if there's anything you like just take it you know they mean
versus this sort of like yeah what's going on here I'm just gonna break into
people's houses and smash their pots they enable you take their money take their
rupees like am I the hero and how many webcomics have written a strip where
Link runs into a house breaks everything open and runs away and they're like we
can't feed our child right exactly I am for me that so I didn't have what you
just described but I had a moment where like there was a guy that I met and he
basically like he who's like we traded items and sold and whatnot and then
he's like there's an axe next to him I'm like I like the axe his moveset I'm
gonna grab that and then he's like hey you taking my axe and I was like oh well
and he goes I just slowly but yeah and then he justifies it so well he's like
hey it's fine to be honest good given the times we live in like anyone who
really cherishes something wouldn't let it out of their sight so by all means go
for it yeah I like that too we're in Boston right now how awesome would it
be is that you're in your you're in your bus you're in your Uber you're in your
Lyft and the driver's like I tell you this fucking Calamity Ganon is just
fucking up this city it used to be a great city Calamity Ganon this Calamity
Ganon that the taxes I can't fucking say the Calamity tax fuck this the city is
going to hell in a ham basket I say hell in a ham basket my name Louie he had a
shrine pop out of his backyard I don't know where he's gonna pay for that where
is Calamity Ganon he's downstairs there find some bitch where's she at you know
fuck Calamity Ganon the world knows Calamity Ganon's a problem and everyone's
it was literally going that Calamity Ganon or that weird forest yeah yeah it's
like these fucking people actually go these shrines just popped up out of
nowhere I don't know what this is some people do some people don't and the
hints at plot so far have been excellent and and there's one detail about them
that I'm getting really hype about but I'm not gonna say anymore about that
Zelda's great so far so but yeah that's you know and then and that's it even
before we get into I guess packs so let's take a quick word from our sponsors

loot create thanks bunch yeah you're talking about some list yeah yeah for me
I started out came in and first things I got my hands on on Friday beat cop beat
cop I saw there was a little announcement for this and like tried it
out really interesting you know retro style like old PC point-and-click like
police quest kind of game exactly but it takes place so far in on one block
right like limited set of shops one little like one little alleyway you got
the cut you got the little the main street and then the little side path and
you just kind of walk up and down check the parking meter on these things right
up ticket so whatever but you have to get to know this block you know and get to
know the people on this block and like things go down and like you got to just
you can play it clean you can play it dirty do whatever but the set if the
stage is this one corner you know and like you play a cop on this corner and
I love that I like that because a beat cop it's beat yeah you and you build off
of this this environment you know and right away it's bustling with life and
like things are going down and you just yeah you can like write up you like you
can write a ticket to someone for no reason and then like the person comes out
and goes dude what the fuck right and then like your dialogue like basically just
at that point goes like yeah I'm being a shitty cop and like you know like and
you can you can go like oh are you gonna pay me for that or maybe I'll make it
interesting if you know whatever you can back down like it just kind of plays off
of your choices and assumes that like the decision you made is gonna how to put
this instead of providing you with the options you do the action first and then
the justification comes later in what you say you know what I mean instead of
like choosing the asshole by mass effect you just do the action and then
and then it's someone goes why'd you do that and then you go well and then you
give your answer kind of thing you know so it looks really good I had a really
fun time and just that little little demo of it that I played fun writing as
well very in law and order very the wire you know just like everyone all the
little like the little quirks of having like your your old tired partner you
know the fat cop that just doesn't really care give a shit and what not but
everyone knows him and what not someone's got mob ties this and that like
it looks really fun I think that's that's absolutely worth keeping eyes on
windjammers play some windjammers I guess what it's windjammers I was
afraid of dot em you possibly messing it up but they didn't they didn't the new
art looks great and disc jam was about two or three kiosks away I stuck to
windjammers and I'll I'll leave it at that right this isn't in the Sony booth
they had a couple of things like really really close proximity a ter I gave up
trying to say what it how it's pronounced it's it's that it's that 2d
you got you got to use souls like because that's what it's doing and you know
what like it actually is there's a little bit more jank in it than I would
have hoped for yeah because it's it's doing souls like things and it's like
yeah you take two or three hits and you're dead hold up your block all that
stuff when you compare it to say like you know there's like things like death
scamping as well coming out and and salt and sanctuary and such like all these
games that are doing 2d type souls things in this one because you're it's
isometric you can you have a hard time gauging what area your hitbox is
covering what your swing is actually covering because it's not like it's not
like where your sword goes that's all hitbox it acts as if it's like semi
layered in the way that like you have to let me not have to line up and eat the
fruit in like final fight or eat the food in final fight you have to like
stand right over the exact horizontal line that the food is on and pick it up
otherwise one step up or down you're not gonna you have that with enemies in
every encounter okay and I found those like like it's kind of awkward sometimes
gauging how high or low someone is on the isometric plane and when my attacks
are missing because I'm not lined up that way you know like I do like a
thrust and I'm just two pixels too high and it's a complete with yeah you know
and I'm like that just rub me the wrong way a little bit you know so we'll see
where it goes from there but it was a really brief demo there was okay KO let's
be heroes that's playable yeah playable yeah it was it was a playable is it's an
iPad game that's the then that that's you know recently announced like beat
him up series that's gonna become a cartoon network comic cartoon over show as
well that was basic beat him up you know like iPad functions really but very fun
a lot better than that Steven Universe game that came out from the same folks
who made that the Steven Universe RPG yeah I think a lot better than that very
charming characters right away and like really fun kid streets of rage world
yeah yeah your little kid Alex I guess right and like your mom is a fighter and
like everyone in this world is like yeah we work at the mall yeah we work at the
mall and it's kind of shitty but we also fight and we all have like big muscles
and rippling and like whatever it's almost like you look like super ripping
friends kind of world you know like it's a bit of that absurdity and it's very
fun I took a look at snake pass you got to play that all yeah what you say like
all yeah did you did you get a did you get a shot at it it's a plan it's coming
out like in two weeks so it's so simple because you know like you look at the
trailer and it's just like there's a happy-go-lucky snake looks kind of like
cock from the jungle book and it's just it's you stick to like wiggle left and
right to move like a snake a lifts your head up and holding RT accelerates just
goes forward yeah and when you wiggle left and right it speeds you up like a
like an actual snake moves and then the end this oh yeah so exactly one trigger
moves you forward and the other trigger is when you're wrapped around something
you like tight tightens his muscles right so that you're like because and then
beyond that is just all physics right so you get like a more precise version of
nobie nobie boy kind of thing okay you know like where you're trying to actually
swat you're spiraling around surfaces and little like tree branches and things
and like tightening sticking your head out and using physics in a really
interesting way to do like because you're yourself is or you're almost like a
rope where well we were given like we're we had one of the developers kind of
show us yeah and he was doing stuff like he was wrapping himself a bit around
like a you know a bamboo stick that's coming out of the wall and there's like
a little pathway that's in inside like kind of a window and he's able to wrap
himself just a bit and then makes his sneak a limp and then the snakes
physics allow him to kind of like whip around it like that Simon Belmont would
grab and then he lets go of the bamboo stick that he's on and you have a
little bird friend that can help you because he picks your tail up he picks
your tail up if you're like caboose is falling down a little bit and the person
I got this I got this and carries your ass he's your Kazooie yeah he's basically
your Kazooie that's I think the duo's name is like noodle and and bootle or
okay he said the snakes actual name is noodle okay and I was like that's it was
like did you have did you did you shop this with rare and he's like he's like
the main team is from Britain yes and like well the one thing that like got
me like I just nodded like okay these guys get it was the other thing on your
control layout screen is hitting up on the d-pad or down on the d-pad changes
your expression and the more you hit up the happier you get the more you hit
down the sadder you get and that's all it does so you can just be a snake going
around and if you want to be like yeah you can have your mouth open like I'm
having a blast you know you can be moon and that's that and I'm like okay yeah
absolutely yeah done otherwise great you know it looks yeah you said two weeks
or so totally want to look at that yeah really one more thing on that though
um when I started started playing and I asked the sd the the dev that was
demoing it with me and he just go and I just go is there any type of combat or
do you fight and goes nah man this is snake pass you don't fight anything it's
like it just lacks it's chilly you know you just just snake pass and I'm like oh
okay easy let me try let me boot up this level man this level is bullshit and
I went oh okay and then this level is really hard I was like man oh god then
well this is really hard he's like nah I don't know the reason to get upset
snake pass yeah because all you really do is collecting things and figuring out
how to get them because it's it's it's they build levels to be harder and
harder hard about how to get because then there's rotating gears and then
there's water there's wind shooting you so it gets harder and harder and then
he's like oh it's just so it's a cool calm game and then I'm just like after a
while like this is really hard it is it is and like this small like little like
where I were one game would introduce an entire new mechanic to get you through a
dungeon or something snake pass will just be like here's a like two centimeter
puddle of water and it's like just that might mix things up in a way that go all
the physics are different now a little bit you might have a harder time you know
I'm really really looking forward to that the redout was on the floor I don't
I I saw but I already have it on steam it's been in early access for a while and
I like yeah read out yep and I'll get the switch version almost too fast for me
to control I had a hard time but it was fun as yeah read out just a like you
know fzero slash wipeout style like extreme force g-force fighter type of
fighter outracer and yeah and that was cool I was happy trying that out there
was Samurai Riot which is you know it's an all right beat them up the one cool
mechanic that I saw that they had though that like I think is worth noting is like
a when you sandwich people like we did in our double dragon video and just start
like like but like punch and like they're like getting knocked back and
forth it triggers a like you both press the right button at the same time and
then you get a team up attack on a given character or whatever and like that's a
good way to like take out a boss really quickly and stuff and that's something
that I feel like like double dragon could have benefited from or even rant
River City ransom is like dedicated co-op juggling dedicated co-op sure
has it we just never unlocked we never got that far you're right in
underground that you're right serial cleaner yeah I kept seeing ads for that
but I couldn't find the actual setup yeah it's kind of really simplistic there's
not as much going on as I initially thought but it's kind of loose loose and
fun you're basically playing a serial killer that is entering a stage of
hotline Miami after someone for example has cleared the stage out okay like not
actually in the universe but like imagine I'm like I'm bloody like yeah and then
the cops are walking around investigating the evidence and like
checking out the bodies and you have to clean up the evidence like dude in
Pulp Fiction and you've got to clean up the blood grab the bodies hide the
evidence while cops are on the scene there's no fighting or combat it's just
cleaning up you know that in itself that's fairly game yeah yeah that's it
and it's exactly like clean up yeah and that on that on its own is pretty fun
but like there's nothing else to it besides just those mechanics so far 20
X DX yeah the this is what I'm calling it is to Mega Man X what freedom planet
is to Sonic okay right so the fans did their spin off fans did their spin off
co-op Mega Man and Zero type characters doing all kinds of like amazing
refined things that the X series hadn't done the basis of your gameplay in
general it has a little bit of like randomness to it in a way that is like
a binding of Isaac where you can like you beat up you like there's a level of
like you beat a boss and then you might get a random ability you go you get the
boss's ability but then there's other more passive power-ups that are just
kind of like you don't know what you're gonna get you don't know how they're
gonna combine with other things you have so the kit you have towards the end of
the game will be completely different with each run you do lots of cool things
like like cameras zooming in and out that you never got from like them in the
X games and what was the other thing there was one other thing that was
really interesting oh yeah just like well like shops in game to like you know
like trick out special types of mega man abilities you're unlocking
dedicating but surface buttons to your favorite ones you know things like that
it just it's doing a lot of smart things that you you you kind of didn't see in
those X games you can imagine if they kept making the X series they would have
added a bit of these things so like 20xcx looks really good it's also been in
seemingly access for a while so we've got me on it yeah yeah I played it I was
like yeah this I have like a bit of a problem with like the way the animation
slash art style works as it has this kind of look to it that I'm like I wish
that could look better it's the it's the it's like this sort of slidey vector
yeah I can't fault the mechanics but I'm like ah it's just I wish this like
visually I know it's a little bit more cohesive but I know what you mean we
kind of feel that way in general whenever you see like like brawl hollow has
this yeah well it's whenever like it's a collection of sprites bound to a mesh
instead of one single sprite yeah representing you know like the way to
describe it battle chasers night war yes looks incredible this game just
visually is on another level like Joe mad art looking better than it ever has
been yeah you know just the texture quality in general I don't know how far
you got in that little demo but I went through some stuff but yeah like when
you're in the because battle chasers there was a Kickstarter for this and
like it's basically like an overworld he sort of going to the map then when
you're in the map which is very basic and you're basically in on not rails but
a board game for a bit that you go around to these different like spots and
then once you go in there it's like oh now you get into a dungeon and you get
into a dungeon and like the fucking background art of this dungeon is like
or just like it's like bastion yes what like even maybe even better and then
you're wandering around and then that's where the enemies are and then if you
hit one of those enemies then you get brought to the battle screen which is
pretty much if you like final fantasy 10 pretty much that which I like final
fantasy 10 oh I'm not good at it obviously but like I slot a lot of fun
doing it and just like I want to get into that but I was always confused what
is this a sequel to the comic look where does this fit in the timeline no idea and
I was explained I was explained it's like a side story that happens and that Joe
is going to finish the comic no no I'm gonna make more comics so this is a
side story then he's gonna because all this battle chaser's hype and bring it
back like he's gonna try to polish off or do something with it because it was a
Kickstarter thing yes we're also gonna make some comics to like kind of
complete the story so I was always confused about what this was whether
it's a sequel a prequel well I think I think it's gonna do great for anyone
even that in that have no idea what battle chasers is just because of how
amazing it looks yeah like again it like imagine if you know vanilla where games
work based on something that you never read a comic or whatever you'd be like
well sure but I want to pull you into the Lord yeah you might you can go back
and read it but like on its own merit this game looks fantastic you know like
really really noteworthy I want to I want to I want to mention fantasy strike
that is the Yomi like the fighting game that came from the world of Yomi and
this game is now looking a lot better than that initial build I was confused
because I really last time you were talking about you're like yes real rough
but you like it because the mechanics are so tight right as a fighting game
too tight belly as a Mac as a fighting game it's so well thought out like with
so what was the rough part it looked a bit of the head the KOF first with KF
14 like lighting okay right really early incomplete characters were not done
their animations yet and they're still not done but now they've done they've
like the newest pass on it it looks a lot better a lot sharper and I yeah I feel
like it's like after like I found myself wandering back to that booth in
downtime to get a few more games in that's the kind of the game a game it
was for me and like learning out feeling out matchups and whatnot based on
like what I knew of the characters in the card game but even then it simplifies
things even more to an entry-level fighter for five block for fighting
games then Rising Thunder did right where the execution is nil it's all just
decision-making and who makes better decisions and you get right to that fun
spot of like it doesn't matter where you're what your combo memorization
memorization is here I I made a better decision than you and that read won me
the round right absolutely worth your time I think we should probably like
rotate around though because like I think we all played a bunch of different
yeah okay I guess the last thing I'll say before like I switch it off and I
hopefully maybe we can come back around because I got a few more here but my
possible game of the show is absolver this is devolvers fighter with the
camera third person where it's a bit of a Gears of War like a placement or like
yeah over the shoulder over the shoulder brilliant system brilliant mechanics
you talked about this before but this is your first hands on your first hands on
we really didn't know what to make of it seeing that first trailer characters
masks walking around and the actual combat system is great you know you you
it's got all the basics of like two attack buttons and you have stances that
change your attacks and you can cycle in from like front left front right to other
like there's a very intricate system that like that's not even what we need to
get into here well we there's two things that are worth getting into one the three
archetypes for the type of fighter you pick when it starts out are you pick
someone that's got parries on a pen a parry button you pick someone that's got
a focus attack or you pick someone that's got dodges so do you want like SNK
groove do you want Street Fighter 3 or Street Fighter 4 and that's your your
that's your like tang that's your orc human elf you know as a basis and then
the other thing that I'd like I'm like okay no you're hitting me like you run
into characters in this world where it's not about me even necessarily the
single-player experience there's a series of bosses and instances around this
world but otherwise besides that it's a giant lobby and you'll in fights you'll
find NPCs that you can fight or you'll just find other players or people and
like it plays as an active lobby that leads to these single-player experiences
if you want or you can just fight other people one-on-one and have fun with that
the way the game's move list works is everything your character can do from the
get-go like whatever is available in the game is like you don't have to progress
to unlock it but the way you find moves is if someone does something if the
swings at you in a way that you've never seen before the first time the move
comes out it's like a pokedex where you go okay what was that you just did
something to me like it zooms in on curious face and he's just like that's
a lot you get you get and a little pop-up is there and it's just like a new
move has been used on you right and you get body by it or whatever and then
that's that you go wow that sure was a move right hell of a move and that's a
good button and then the next time you fight somebody with it and you parry it
counter it dodge it do whatever you you find a way to defeat it and you beat
that person it's cement you like no now I know this move I'm gonna say this is
the worst way in the world to learn martial arts watch a guy do a move once
you like yeah everyone is like taskmaster yeah I was gonna say right
where you see it and you're like oh wait or like I said the pokedex you know
but then you beat it and when you beat it you now have it in your system and
you can choose if you want to use it or how you want to use it and such which
then lends itself to the world where experience is not a number experience is
what you actually do and encounter in this world and they are even and they're
talking about setting up things where they're like therefore someone who's
really skilled can bring in a couple friends and be like okay guys we're
gonna go to this corner and I'm gonna teach you and you gotta practice it
amongst yourselves until you have those moves right and they actually are
thinking about like implementing a dojo system of like this is a school that you
can come join if you want to learn our moves and that's our style idea that
might have come about at the advent of like massively multiplayer online
gaming like you know it's like I'm sure there must have been some jank ass
martial arts game that came out that no one learned about they're like joe joes
yeah but like it wasn't ready for it yet matrix online
the cut is deep so deep yes that's what I'm thinking
I was like I knew there was some jank piece of shit oh god yeah the thing with this and like you know
like they're hitting it like new other things they're working on and like how
they're gonna expand it but as a basis it's fun it's responsive it's got a
very interesting like I picked the parry character obviously and like like the
way you defend in that game feels really intuitive everything about that is
great but like just that learning experience system on its own was like
okay that's a very interesting approach to this stuff that's pulling me in the
downside could be an underpopulated server right the downside could be like
if it's there's not a lot of people playing there's not a lot of game you're
looking that it could like the problem could yeah you could be running through
a fairly empty lobby with a couple of NPCs here and there and once you learn
everything they've got you just you know you just direct you run it straight to
the bosses and then that's that well right so it's a bit of an online
experience required this is a thing that like because this absolver is is
devolvers we were talking about this is the company
this is their big this is their big 3d like this is where we put our money
because last year was shadow warrior to with its giant booth yeah that it had and
now it's like absolver and I'm like shadow word did pretty well I'm like it
you know you can play that online and shit so I like to think of that they're
putting the same type of promotion or whatever they did to that to this which
seems like they're doing I'd like to think it has a good shot to you know I
think so I think so I but like you definitely don't want to go in expecting
this massive mysterious single-player campaign okay that's not what it is
there's a handful of worlds and each of those worlds like I said they serve as
massive lobbies right with a series of instances and like souls-esque NPCs like
sprinkled around that you can draw and they can find like you pull their
attention and then now you can get into that fight I got I pull I got I was
fighting like I got ganged up on it when I walked into this house by like five
like people like at like random you know extrav enemies and then like a mini
boss and I was just I'm like I'm about to die this is just going terribly and
then like from the roof a random other player just jumps in and jump in like
kicks down some guy and then just back to backs with me okay wait help me fight
out is this fight world it's fight world okay and that guy he said a lot of
things it wasn't even like a like I had to summon somebody or like the someone
invaded it was just like someone through a window so sound so will he
struggling time and just back to back with me that's cool everyone's ass and
before I even had a chance to turn around and do a gesture yeah they were
gone you know and if you wanted a mysterious stranger if you wanted he
could have turned and then fought me like an invader can be a friend or an
enemy or nothing probably saw how bad you're doing but that experience was
like holy shit I get that's fun and in theory if I like really got it I would
have been watching that and like maybe I would see a couple moves he did you know
and then kind of like poke decks them right for later so that was possibly my
game of the show I feel like it it cemented itself in my heart right away
and providing we have like a persistent number of people playing this online that
are dedicated to it it's gonna be a great time and it's not too close to for
honor I was worried about it yeah it overlapping but it's not I talked for a
long time yeah yeah the game that I spent the most time on one of my friends
was reduced me to and then I ended up going back with other people was a
star-crossers okay imagine like a gang of weebs get together and they make their
version of what pong plus would be it's super basic game but essentially like
you're these two Sailor Moon ass yeah okay I saw this I saw this I was watching
someone play yeah and they're like you know they're like floating in space and
you're essentially on two opposite ends of the screen and there's this like this
celestial like power source that's constantly going between you guys is
imagine it's like magnetize and altering alternate between both of you and
that's sort of like what the pong part is okay instead there are these enemies
that are constantly being brought out like random they're kind of being
randomly created at like different points of time and then the rate gets
faster and faster over time and they're shooting projectiles so you have to
navigate around them but also get them in the way of that ball that's going
between both of you guys so that you can destroy them okay and you're kiting
them towards yeah yeah you're cutting towards it and you also have control over
the speed of the ball based on how you strategically time I guess it's sort of
like a volley you know what I mean okay so there's like these three layers that
you're kind of managing these two tasks are kind of managing like in your head
and it's incredibly fun and once you get into a rhythm it gave me the kind of
like visceral rhythms of like of like co-op that overcooked it I don't know if
I put some hours in the kitchen yeah exactly like like once you play you
play that with somebody else and like you're in a groove of like passing the
plates or it's the same thing with defeating enemies and stuff okay it's
pretty cool it's really simple it's really small will probably be cheap on
steam doesn't sound simple from your description there's some things to
think about for sure what but once you get in it you're like all right like
let's let's do this you know that was the big thing for me and then the other
thing that sort of captured my heart it's been out already night in the woods
I'm a big Scott Benson fan yeah I finished it recently all I did was all I
did is go to their booth and then I just kind of wait until like a developer
kind of had their eyes on me and I just stole a bunch of pins and things and
they went they went like huh and I went F the cops and I ran off and I heard like
a yelp of laughter I think but it could have been anger yeah I'm a huge fan of
night in the woods so yeah I'm really I'm really sad about I was excited to
play another build of we happy few they were here last year yeah and I got him
I played a big chunk of that at last year and they're a little
enjoyable like I want more like you know it channels by a shot infinite
some more of that and see those guys yeah I yeah and I mean like I that's well
I mean like I've got like friends that come because they're from Montreal and
whatnot so it's it's it's from what they're planning like it's the thing
with it is that like the the the bioshockness that the trailer like gave
off I feel might be misleading to like what the final game is like because the
final game that's because it is the final game is way more survival and
survivably yes in that like there are objectives there are places there are
things but there's so much wandering you can do off the beaten path that is not
bioshock like at all yeah I like that a lot more because that reminds me of the
gosh what's it called the barrier let's see that reminds me of barrier let's see
where you have you have more space to eavesdrop and get an understanding of
what that universe is the problem is that like this wandering bit it's
randomly generated like areas and wandering and NPC encounters so much
like the opposite of Zalda these are not structured kind of fought out things
there at least in the preview build that I play because it came out on Xbox one
as a preview like build thing once you get past that bioshocky thing which is
nice and you get the open role and you're like okay and yeah there are
missions there are little like side missions and you have your main objective
but the general world that at least in this preview build was like super
uninteresting like it was just like blocks you could see just the same house
over and over and over and over again and that's the stuff they need to work so
so the thing with it that I I had because I remember playing like the initial
initial build and then I caught them a couple last years as well and saw the
improvements is that the openness like one thing that stood out is that when
you go and wander off the beaten path you're not like the controlled
experience it was just way better than the loose experience at the end of the
day that's just how it was like it just these were missions and moments and
things that were like guided and they were fun what's pulling is the narrative
yeah yeah that's there but like I hope that they can like do a bit more with
the openness because like wandering eventually kind of just results in you
died because you were thirsty because of the drug the drugs or they're hungry or
like you just you wander and then you die right the character seems to be
suffering from this disease where they get thirsty every couple of hours and
inventory like that other thing but you know but what will be fantastic is if
some of those like some of the the guided experience like if they can really
make it so that you have a the wandering should be at least somewhat like planned
in the way that we're talking about Zelda where like yeah you want to go off to
this neighborhood and down to this path where you're not supposed to and the
security is higher and you get through that area and you weren't supposed to
there should be something there you know if you struggled through it and got to
there and in the build that I played it that wasn't there yet but they talked
about planning that you know but yes absolutely as a premise I'm looking
forward yeah the the potentials high yeah the potentials high because the
narrative is really interesting the whole the whole drug thing the whole like
you know everyone being under the the influence of this drug and seeing things
like that's the stuff that I'm like I want to come back and see more of that I
just like hope like the openness is a little more like polished and and like
and because do you know we said the joyful release of the painful of any
chance there these these these RPGs that are really brutal but like you're all
you're playing a drug addict in those games as well and like you have the drug
on you and but like there's obviously consequences to using it massive highs
massive lows and then plot things too you know so I always kind of felt like
no I'm gonna I'm gonna fight it I'm gonna resist the urge and whatnot and in this
game I remember like going through it and being like yeah that's probably really
bad that I don't want to take the drug and whatnot and kind of eventually like
and then having a talk with the one of the designers afterwards where he's like
yeah like you you could have taken it actually like it was bad for and it was
like something it makes you experience the world in a really weird way but you
must have been thinking the punishments and the severity of how bad it was when
you come when you're like craving it or way worse than they actually are you
know so there's little things like that where I was like oh they made it seem
like this this dystopian crazy world where you live is one where like if you
take the drug you're super happy and everything's great and then you come
down and it's terrible and you feel like you're gonna die and I just want like
yeah I'm never gonna play with that you know and then turned out like no it's
actually it wouldn't be that bad if you did so like little moments like that I'm
like ah you know you can you can signal that a little bit better to the player
you know as well the Nintendo booth was a thing that you got to experience and
I'm happy for you man I was able I was able to kind of like headbutt my way in
there I just got to peek through the door crack as I was staring at my Nintendo
switch yeah and my Splatoon 2 and arms buns arms way more legit than I thought
it was gonna be yeah so the Nintendo booth like they basically have like six
games and you kind of like pick and choose which ones you want to play and
yeah I went straight for arms and like I'm like okay as soon as I pick up these
joy cons and I'm like alright this is how you're supposed to hold them I'm like
by second one like is this gonna be like just flailing and like it doesn't work
or is it because you doesn't really matter ultimately you can play it with
pro controller at the end of the day but I'm like I want to know if this will
work with like at me I throw my fists out and then curving them at the last
second I was like so I'm like I booted it up I slept my character I slept a
Ninjara little ninja guy and I'm just like okay and I'm like okay yeah
on a fist curve it okay no jump no dash let's go it was like yeah I played two
matches against a computer then one match against a person and just like
yeah instantly I'm like okay I get this this is this is this beats this this
beats this rock paper scissors if someone if someone tries to throw you
you punch them because throwing which is when you put both fists on both hands
it takes longer so if you throw a quick punch it stops it and I'm like okay okay
and everything just has a counter and I'm like you have to be good with your
dodges you have to dodge other there's it's not fake it's not like you you
lucked out of it or Nintendo did something where it's like yeah even
people can just dodge out of anything it does take skill and it has that
competitive thing and when I fought against the person I'm like thinking
like okay what's he gonna do what's he gonna do as the AI was kind of like I
just throw anything yeah it is when you're actually find someone and then you
beat them and around then you're looking at your equipment I'm like okay
because I got I had like I'm sure is the basic equipment you get but you get the
punch that throws out three wires that are three different prongs at the end
okay I'm like oh shit this really this is way different than the other weapon I
had and of course the last kind of element is the stages and a stage I
guess I never saw before but it's like up a Japanese style hill where like
there's a shrine at the top in your praying so you're on this sloped incline
and someone literally has the high ground and search your Star Wars memmies
and I'm like okay wow because they have this advantage where the punches are
going straight down I'm like holy shit okay and just like three matches and I'm
like completely so I want to play this yeah just need more announce your other
characters yeah there needs to be more and announce your other like power-ups
and the only other thing is that like you seem to have right now only one super
yeah and they're fun because it's literally Jojo just Jojo your hands and
go yeah that's really fun I'm like I kind of hope that there's at least more
than than just one per character they're all different per character but I hope
there's more than one yeah I mean the takeaway I looked at and I saw was like
okay so it's Dalsim mirror matches on the poke and engine and I'm like I got it
yeah yeah yeah that's what it seems to be like there's some punch out there but
really what I felt watching it and seeing the way people were moving was
you're doing the rock you're doing exactly that I wish I could hear I wish
they had headphones if you listen to some of the things it's like it's got the
rousing music okay people chanting and stuff quiet and just like we were talking
about before it's a presented tournament yes I love that I love that kind of that
actual televised I love that stuff I played Ultra Street Fighter 2 for a bit
Bob Rocco I Rocco is playing next to me I didn't fight him he I did fight against
him in Splatoon 2 really quick in Splatoon 2 it's split to split to runs
better runs really fast I felt very fluid but holy shit was it splatoon yep
I if there's new stuff I don't know where it is yet there's a new weapon and and
but it was it was Splatoon it was great Ultra Street Fighter 2 I really liked
it holy shit I really like violent Ken his dash makes him feel like a different
character did you see the works on the pro controller really well did you land
his 100% surefire kill combo okay I couldn't figure out that there was no
like move list implemented in the builds yet so I couldn't see what the super
command was I forgot it was but I played that it was fun it was it was Street
Fighter 2 I'm still too expensive to what they're charging for yeah but if you
want to play Street Fighter 2 you want to play a good version of it that you can
you know what I will I would buy it if it was $60 I'd buy it for whatever yeah
because you can switch the backgrounds to be the old pixels right and not like in
HD Remix where you can only switch the sprites yeah and that's a good call yeah
it is and violent Ken looks great in the old pixel style he has a slight
little purple halo around him and I'm like I'll buy this but like Capcom just
you should have made it digital only so guess what now we can probably say that
you know these switch prices might not be Capcom's fault or no they're they're
it's it's Capcom's fault in the sense this should have been digital only yeah I
don't know why the decision was made that Street Fighter 2 had to be physical
let's keep our eyes you know out and keep your ear to the ground to see if
switch versions of games cost more than the other versions because that might be
a thing snake pass is coming out on the switch I played it on the switch
actually yeah on my demo and I'll get it for that just because it's portable now
yeah but yeah if that's if that's more expensive than yeah it's it's that's
possibly going to be I mean it's always the same price as any other game
certainly but when but when you see like you see a more expensive physical
version of the for the switch and then over on digital it's like well they
they're keeping that because of they have you right because like you know
I'm games GameStop in places like that are not gonna stand for you know the
digital version undercutting them by half the cost or more you know what I
mean like it's gonna be a messy thing it's gonna be a messy thing and it's a
bit weird and Nintendo's just I don't know why they're handling things the way
they are but we'll see it's one of those things where I was talking about with
Liam and he's just like just like any other media once after a year or two
they're gonna find out a way how to produce these carts at a cheaper price
and therefore the cost will go down and just like just a little it's a
proprietary SD card that's why he made that the Vita the Vita memory cards
which are $80 sure yeah really quickly before if you have another game you
want to get to really quickly there's this game that I've been looking at I
think I sent it to you once we talked about in the pocket it's called inner
chains okay who is this medieval looking badass doom game really fast really
brutal I see him like oh yeah I'm gonna play some inner chains and he goes this
is inner chains it is a slow atmospheric first-person adventure where
it's not doom at all okay and I'm like oh he's like I've had to say this to many
people it's like doom 2016 he's not okay very slow so we start playing he's like
alright this is a plant I'm like okay it's like you have to think about this
plant because your gun is a flamethrower okay and he's like because the
plant reacts very differently and and you you have to some plants they like
booze in Mario you can't turn your back to these plants you got in stareth in the
entire time and these plants will hit the other enemies and there's like these
zombies wandering around and then there's the these green sacks and your gun
morphs into other guns like you don't just get like one gun and so it's a
little bit more surround and what it actually is is that it's slow you you
have a little little bit of a trot but it's slow and that you have to look at
your environment alright there's these like weird plant tendrils there's
different types and you have to set it up so you can get around these rooms
because you're slow as shit okay and you're in this weird medieval hell
world and it's thousands of years in the future and he's just like like we
wanted to we were thinking about doing a running gun thing we're like but we're
not gonna beat doom right 16 right like so now it's more of a thing where you
got it like alright I'm gonna hit this plant it's gonna it's gonna aggro it
I'm gonna shoot one of these zombies and all the zombies will come over then the
plant starts attacking them while they're busy doing that I'm gonna go around
here and then shoot this green like sack and it shoots a bunch of gas onto the
ground then I switched my flamethrower I ignite the gas all the zombies are like
what the shit what's happening then you go down and it's like a slow like thought
thing which I wasn't expecting because whenever I saw a video like not videos
like screenshots of this game it's always some gross monster and it all looks
like doom and it was just a total by surprise and it was good it was just
really I respect that approach where you're like look we're not gonna beat
this game at what it's doing here at the same time you want your design to be
strong from day one but like a slow unlike more considered walk and gun
sounds a little interesting okay yeah think about the plants you need to
think about this plant do not not think so if I may right if I'd like to pause
the podcast for a minute right it's part of the podcast like like Moses spread
the waters of packs to talk about the fact that two days before flying out here
I sat down and I went to go see a movie and that movie is called get out what
did you think you told me to go see get out I saw the day all right all right
can we have a conversation right now let's talk Jordan feels great how so
genius is this movie as a whole it is the most compelling and also the only
social thriller I've ever seen I like I didn't know what that word meant going
into this because that people were throwing it around and I'm like that
could mean a bunch of things but right and then getting through it like it
when I like I source of all I watched it with my girlfriend now what color is the
skin of your girlfriend it's of the Caucasian persuasion okay so we needed
that to be established and so I I stood up and the movie was finished when the
movie was done and said I need to go I need to go right now and she was like
are you okay and I'm like yeah just I think we need to break up right which
got a nice reaction from the first couple rows around I'm like yo I don't
know about this oh my god I came out and I was like okay if I never I'm okay if I
never saw another film for the rest of this year this will like hold me over
the way that he touched on a lot of things a lot of things just nuances of a
casual day yes yeah and there's there's so much to it and the the post by the way
let's establish now like how much are we going okay okay okay so so I to have the
conversation I want to have yeah this has to be spoiler territory so I'm gonna
mark it right here and I'm going to say in post when this the spoilers will stop
right I'll tell you exactly what time that is gonna be so right now we're gonna
start get out spoilers I feel like I need to rub your shoulders satch to
prepare you for this next like a lot a lot of prep so this is great and I
haven't talked about it with anybody okay my sister okay my sister and there
were just so many moments where like I just like grabbed her I was like yeah
yeah okay so spoilers starting warning the following discussion spoils all
aspects of the film get out and continues for quite a while into the
podcast to be honest it wasn't our intent to necessarily have such a long
spoiler cast about it but it was such an interesting discussion that we had and
I think that I don't regret the fact that we had it if you haven't seen get out I
highly recommend it however you're gonna want to skip to about 226 37 to resume
the non get out talk enjoy now okay okay so this movie like the thing about it
that that like right off about I'm like yeah what is a social thriller what does
that mean and by the end like what was happening to me was something that I
had never experienced that was you found a nerve ending in my body that had
never been touched with film or with movies or with this type of thing it's
like you barely knew this nerve ending could be touched was there right like
it's a nerve ending that exists more than representation yeah it's like
something else it's something else and it's a nerve ending that exists and it
gets rubbed occasionally in real life yes but what's never what's the example
well hold on and it's but never in this context and in this it was like it
rubbed it and then it like took sandpaper to it right where like I'm
having those boondocks moments hard down to the core you know like all the
awkwardness of the garden party type moment exactly yeah but in the
anticipation of it and the like that paranoia when he's like when when he
talked there's so many there's so many things I like I just so much I want to
talk about yeah yeah go I mean so there yeah there's there's the garden party
there's the like I saw something in his eyes that was like is he like there's
something wrong here yeah like yeah understanding what's going on you know
and like the paranoia both the paranoia and the misunderstanding of his
girlfriend when he thinks that the hold on just just back up for that for those
that we're just gonna just give the very basic set up black boyfriend white
grab my bad friend white girl hey come see my family for the weekend they go
up there up in up in wherever yeah they seem really nice but then the things
are weird things are weird and that they have two black like workers there and
then the guys like that's kind of weird and then the dad who seems nice just
kind of goes like oh they used to take care of my grandparents and I couldn't I
felt like I couldn't just fire them that's why we keep them around and he
goes to the black guy goes I know this looks kind of weird and then he goes
okay otherwise pretty liberal family feeling feeling family but with that
awkwardness of like you guys don't meet or talk to a lot of black people and
that's about it right right then like man I sure love that Obama would have loved
to have voted for him another time exactly right and then you but then you
just turn the dial up very slowly yeah yeah um and so like okay well here my
favorite scene of the entire movie right I want to know what yours is my
favorite scene of the entire movie like was the moment when he's inside and he's
talking everyone's having that little inside garden party moment where he
walks in and just goes up the stairs and then suddenly the entire party stops
and everyone just turns up to listen to his main characters footsteps walking
around the house upstairs where's he going what's he doing yeah that social
weirdness of everyone suddenly doing something like at that point you had
been expecting that you you're like okay something's wrong here right but that
is the hardest confirmation of something going wrong where you have nothing to go
on though yeah because you still don't know what the problem you're like this is
a horrible shitty situation something bad is up but I don't know what it is
and all I can do is sit here and feel awkward about right yeah and you don't
think it's you at this point you don't think it's the thing that maybe the
trailer or what you're in your initial expectation was where all these people
want to kill the black guy because they're racist or they're evil or whatever
up up until that point you're still not sure man there's an end of assumption
yes you keep peeling back and you're like oh no maybe they hypnotize them yeah
that's what happened you may like and you don't even piece together all these
things that all these scenes that they plan in the beginning between his
nervousness about being able to smoke and that sort of being like yep his
escape from ultimately yep like the situation where hmm it's a psychologist
married to a neuroscientist what's the situation with that yeah like there are
so many small things that were there from the beginning for you to work with and
as you start putting together clues more they allow you to arrive at those
conclusions as you start seeing things and then you see the laboratory you're
like oh my god this is the situation this is why even the Asian American man
and you're like why are you here and why are you saying that because at the
garden party there's always white people in rule and you're at this point
thinking like oh it's there you know that's what it's gonna be but then this
this red herring of an Asian man is there to make you go wait no that doesn't really make sense
he says this thing that like this is generalizing that a minority just wouldn't say it just doesn't
like you wouldn't expect that right out of his mouth so so and that's the
brilliance of it so you start off with this like the set up the setting is the
character the main character is uh he's like hey man do your parents
hey my girlfriend do you do your parents know I'm black no uh this is gonna be
right and that's then that's what you're going in right and you meet like one member of the family
which is the son who is like yeah that guy's got a hood and somewhere he just came from a clan
meeting almost you could see that guy being the insane and difficult he threw off the scent you're
talking about the son right the son he threw off the scent because he made the parents see
totally normal and totally chill because of how extreme he was right but you're going in basically
going like all right no this is gonna be what it's gonna be it's gonna be awkward they're gonna be
like oh they're not hicks but they're like yeah I know black people like we don't like that and then
you're like okay but they're living with them therefore it can't be we want to kill them or
anything it's just a uh maybe we want to see them subservient to us right they're not live
there they shouldn't be having they shouldn't have their own will you your brain starts racing
right by the time you get to that garden party you start going through the same levels that you
would in real life in real life when these things happen like it's like all right he dropped three
weird racially charged statements statements like but you know because of your genetics because of
your genetic makeup man you'd be a beast in the ring right yeah those kinds of things like where
there's sort of like which i'm that's happened oh of course oh but that's the assumption right
that's kind of stuff we're like oh yeah you know you have a stronger jaw like those other like
random shit so what sport did you play rare what sport did you play it's like it's like oh I didn't
know okay yes no absolutely there's this uh you do what you do in the movie is this thing we're like
oh my god i can't believe i've never i've actually never been in a context like this where i could
say this out loud but it's sort of like um you're maybe you're in you're in this like ethnocentric
context and like you're around a lot of white people yeah yeah sorry i'm dying no no no do it
and you start you you start with the question even if it's not intentional and you start with the
question am i safe here but not like safe in a violent kind of way but like um is is this an area
where i'm going to be like radically accepted right you know what i mean like like to the point
where there's not going to be any kind of misunderstanding no one's going to feel nervous
you feel like they need to say something or say that they're colorblind or anything like that and
and your people are talking to you and you're listening and you're listening to what they're
saying and you're also like listening to find out like is this person used to being in a
monocultural situation all the time or they used to being like in more diverse groups yes yes yes i
know what you're trying to get a read yeah you're trying to get a read like for like i know like
for me like i grew up in the northeast in america if you grew up in the northeast you probably grew
around a lot of people who aren't like you don't speak your language and you've normalized being
around different folks and usually like when you meet people like that i feel very comfortable
yeah very comfortable around people like that there's a way i wish i could explain what it is
yeah no i know exactly what you mean but there's this thing where like you just know they don't give
a fuck and like they don't they're not like oh man like i'm talking to you yeah they're not overthinking
things a little bit or are considering measuring what's being said in a way where you'd like what
like there's no there's a strange amount of effort that you're putting in towards this particular
part of the conversation yeah right exactly and there's no weird apologetic kind of thing and
i remember i really didn't encounter like non northeastern non north all right we're going for
non northeastern white people until like late college post college okay because it had a lot of like
imports me people have kind of moved in maybe new people in the workplace or whatever and i realized
like there would be sort of this like uh i don't know i want to pick my words wisely it's not like
a tension but like a learning curve maybe okay until like so like talking and meeting different
people halfway and like i've definitely learned how to like accommodate that in a way um but you
i know that it's in those contexts when i'm speaking to somebody like like i know you're from
Wyoming or something you're right i just skipped a bunch of things but like yeah i know you're from
Wyoming so like i'm sort of asking myself like are you okay with this and i'm listening and trying to
so i felt like i was doing the same thing in the film where i was trying to figure out for the
for the sake of the protagonist where on the spectrum her parents were because they could
say anything they want right you know what i mean right i don't know the the well and the thing with
it is that like okay because i mean you know my experience in general has been that like yeah you
encounter this it's a regular part of life that it might it's going to pop up in canada's like
like i said it's a it's a bit of a personal thing well it's a bit of an odd place where i mean it's
mainly especially in in cobec has been more about just french and english than anything else the
conflict is yeah that's not the like it's not the it's not the predominant point of tension
you know uh so that and that kind of changes a little bit of the frame of reference but
that but that doesn't completely eradicate it because i've been in many situations where
you're standing around in this environment trying to get a read on it and trying to get a read on
who you're talking to and like you have this defense of like okay i'm just gonna laugh off
the ridiculousness or the ignorant moments right you have to you put that out there and you should
be like all right man like okay let's we're doing this sure you know and and you have almost like
some pre-canned responses ready to go yeah in some situations you know mass effect wheel
it has these yeah four responses yeah no absolutely you know you're here to save the face of the
person who says something i'm expecting it right and and you know whether it's that guy uh in in the
the like who's the friend of the family and that's just be like hey yeah bob marley man what not and
i'm just be like well maybe not necessarily right you know um great musician but not for the reasons
you you know you're not like maybe not you know like i get the oh you know who remind me of it's
insert blackout with glasses malcom X malcom X brandy jackson certainly yeah yeah okay all friends
parents uh i've totally had them be the parents but i've i only did it with girls yeah so like
yeah so this is so coming in this film was very exciting for me um and and in in that in that situation
like it's always but oh yeah you know about the mix and like i'm like i'm expecting like yeah i know
here right here right yeah you're not malcom X so and the other swing on it is that like the
my girlfriend's parents at the moment like especially the father so similar in that same very loose
very much wants to let you know it's like yeah man i'm very liberal guy you know like
you just want to like he loves that he loves rap and hip hop and he wants to talk to you about it and
this is just he's reaching he's reaching over you know in the way that he's walking through the house
talking about experiencing different cultures i'm like dude that is exactly what her dad is like
so you're watching the main character and get out now going through this especially at the party
where he's getting this read on everybody and he's keeping the the like he's he's got the loaded gun
of the that like disarming laughter that we have ready to go right yeah he's gonna have so
a lot in this movie because it's all like you said before that's his defense and that's what
you're saying you use sometimes you're like all right man but he he's even more subtle on that
where he just goes like yeah right and he's okay then all right and he's got it ready like we all
are used to but then he's also trying to read like when it's getting a little bit worse he's like
now i just don't want to fuck up the relationship but this is bad you know while dealing with these
weird red herrings that are making you the viewers swerve off the path because you're like
how is it the racist angle when now we just introduce a someone at the garden party who is
going out with a black guy clearly this is a couple an older white lady and a young black guy
and everyone's cool with it there's not a problem so you're like it can't be the inferior angle
it can't be the like we need like it doesn't we want to get rid of them it doesn't can't
be a get send them back to africa like you can't get a read on what the intentions are because
here's another situation that would be really nice and meta if like you don't have to but
i would appreciate him when he sees the japanese guy at the garden party and he goes that shit's a
red herring that guy's there yeah yeah like he like he himself will be like looking around or
when he tells me he's talking to the uh the maid upstairs and he just kind of he just kind of sees
some things and he just goes like am i on candy camera now because there's some things that are
not adding up like he himself starts to realize like i don't know what's going on and he he almost
seems to kind of give up on figuring it out and just goes all i need to do is probably get out
so here well and then when he talks to the girlfriend he's like let's just leave i don't know
what's going on but i we need to go and of course the the genius of the moment where like the the
the guy the black guy that andre who like is he wakes up for a moment and he's yelling get out at
the main character you're like is that an aggressive get out or is that a like i'm warning you like out
of concern you know like but well that was the moment that's where the most compelling that was
the most compelling acting because it's all it almost felt like he came into himself when he
said get out yes i read it 100 as oh shit like he is possessed like that's not who he was yeah
but like the color like returned to his eyes in that moment you know and and it makes you look at
like those the the the couple the um the couple like exactly the uh the maid and the you know
groundskeeper as like you're like you guys are weird but i can't tell what the weirdness is
it's not like you're bottomized in in this way there's something off and you and like when and
now and then you bring it back to the personal experience of like when you're in one of these
situations right it's not something i particularly like but it has happened it's and it's it's just
it's a natural response i feel at least sometimes when you're in this when you are in a situation
where the people are doing this weird awkward we don't talk to a lot of black people thing and
they're not 100 sure how to handle talking to you yeah so every topic has to be tangentially
related to something that'll keep you appeased or happy or whatnot right is you might look around
the room and see if there's anyone else black in the room right and you might look and see like
okay i got someone over there that's a grounding point and i might go talk to them and at
least to just feel out the situation and go like yeah how about this right it's almost like a little
like save point and it's not it's not great it's not but it's there and it's a shrine it's a little
bit of a thing and you don't notice it when you walk into a room where that vibe isn't happening
when everyone's just like yeah we grew up around who gives a fuck we you know the whole lives and
you're just like everyone's fine you don't count or notice or any of that but it's only when you
suddenly start to feel different that right you notice the others that are different and you might
go like hey what's up to talk to that person you know and so and i've been in those situations
where like yeah me and the other one black girl across the room or like black guy across the room
will gravitate and start hanging out and like just you know talk for a big majority of the party
because it just it just went that way because we felt weird otherwise and so does that to that context
felt a little grounded and familiar so you have main character now trying to do that walks up to
andre for that comfort yeah and the worst thing happens like the doesn't have rejection yeah yeah
of it down to the point of like hey props like no no props right and down to the level like our
conversation doesn't make sense nothing works out yeah hand over the face right and then you double
down with that when he's talking to uh the so that was my favorite scene in the film the made of
stuff for the same reason that that you're that um the scene that you had was your favorite like
that was sort of like the turning point for me where i was like okay shits up where he notices
that his phone he'd been he'd been trying to charge his phone it's it's kind of a hint that he'd
been very like particular about charging his phone because in case he needed to like leave or
something he wanted to be able to fully charge phone because when he talks to his friend he's
like let me know if there's anything crazy going on he's like i'll get you out of there whatever
yeah yeah and like he noticed his phone is unplugged and i think it's the second time he noticed
yes yeah so at that point it's like in his mind that someone is intentionally unplugging his phone
because he clearly remember plugging it back in and um he turns around and he finds the maid who
we sort of later find out is like the grandmother and um i can't remember what he says to her
specifically but he oh like he says like yeah he says it's like do you like it here or something
like that or he says he says he says um i find that you know just like a bit too many white people
for my taste yeah like i'm a little uncomfortable with the with the the amount of white people here
that yeah and then she just you see the look on her face and the whole time she sort of has this
like brochure like veneer yeah smile and sort of like a calm enthusiasm like something you
might see on the cover of like i don't know so a flyer maybe a flyer you find in columbia
or something you know sure and like it just slowly becomes like this melancholic and she starts
crying like this like this big fat tear right yeah sound or cheek while still maintaining the the
veneer especially you just yeah but in a very genuine no no no no no no no that that hasn't
been my experience at all yeah so so let's get into this part right now because i remember you
and i had this conversation is that we haven't gone there yet but the whole thing about hypnosis
in this movie and how it's presented where when you first watch a trailer for this movie you're
like okay i think i gotta handle what this is but then when you see the main character in a black
void trying to swim up like a TV screen of what he's seen is because when you see some of these
characters the the maid and the groundskeeper there's two people inside that body and there's one
that's the face and there's one that's trying that's buried deep deep down and you see some of this
acting like especially from her and especially from um you know a character later on that you see
like like they got across the fact that there's two people fighting with each other inside one
person in one inside one person and you see like little cracks just and that and up until that point
you still don't know what's going on and that's the thing is like if they were just the same person
but um beaten and broken into a subservient role it wouldn't have been like that it would have been
very distinctly different where they're still the same person but just like out of fear like
acting differently or some such another movies where they're like when he met her alone she should
have been like get me out of here for something like take me with you like that's what happens in
most movies like this and and so now and that's what you're gonna feel like that the message that
it drives home for me that i really like is sort of like culture is rich like it's not a matter of
fact that he just gravitated towards people who looked like him but there's like this really hard
to pin down like experience that's tied with it that like colors the way that you you like speak
and connect with other people or like really with other people that thing that i was talking about
where you see that that safe point that anchor the red across the room when you're like i'm
uncomfortable but maybe i'll go talk to him um i wasn't even conscious of that until he walks up
to him for that moment like that's something that i've done that i'm like i didn't think about the
fact that i do this yeah until he walks up to him for that moment and like in my head i'm like yeah
of course you're gonna like that's the thing and then doesn't get it and i go oh oh man i would feel
so weird yeah if i did that and i didn't get it and i go oh my god i do that you know and it made me
think about me in similar situations like that this can happen in lesser ways too like if you
go to a party let's say i go to a party there's just tons of old people and i see someone that's
in their 20s i'm like okay and i just think what if i tap them around the shoulder and they got old
face like they got wrinkles and like yeah like you just said i didn't get what i was expecting
here because again look that's my anchor point over there or if like i'm with a bunch of sports
dude sports sports ball sports did someone do the sports the tomb raiders and i go over to see a guy
with like a fucking owl mass effect hoodie yeah i go over and i'm like okay i really don't want to
talk to this person but well anyway because they just like they turn around and he turns around
and he turns around and he's going sports sports sports or even more like they're wearing like a
sony playstation sweater yeah and you go up to them they turn around they're like yeah just play
about it yeah that's that's it yeah but i love how i love how like like this is one of those movies
where i'm like it felt like i said that deeply personal nerve that it touched on for me like even
with people not experiencing that that haven't had the personal like part of it it's still
landing and the subject matters i think is being understood sufficiently enough by people who have
are not black male raised in mostly white environment that has encountered some different
degrees of acceptance some some degree some places a lot less acceptance some places a lot more
it's like when you're not that person you're like people are still thoroughly enjoying and
getting some of the message out of this and i think that's great because you're forced to
confront things that are otherwise not talked about in this way um and so i want to get to the
like you know when you get to that final the end zone where you're like okay well here's the mystery
right the whole context of these people being racist at all is like if that's all it was i would
have been so disappointed right if it was just we dislike black people right and you're and down
to the moment where he's like talking about how like they're like yeah genetically you guys have
their vessel and but i'm like yeah okay right we get it breeding the strong black you know stud
to be a good slave or whatever and say no man it's actually that we almost like black people too
much yeah and racism is not even remotely a part of that and in the sense you think of
because my grandma and granddad are black and we live with them comfortably right right it's so
far beyond in this crazy sci-fi realm right that you're like oh yeah discomfort i felt right it's
it's like you twisted it around on me in such a ridiculous way and when you talk about social
thrillers i'm worried that someone i don't understand the complaints that's not a racial
animus that's something it goes so far beyond so beyond someone that is actually like uh racial
racist in some way or doesn't like or feeling whatever the the current context is would like
look at that and go like oh i'm possessing their bodies though what the fuck man you know i feel
like like any human can look at that go yeah that's fucked up yeah and and you get swerved here
and there and then you're like for me i was making up my mind that i'm like no they can't be racist
there's too many red herrings there's too many things that don't make sense it'd be too simple
and then the fucking auction happens right and you're like oh my god it's an auction like i
didn't get it until you get that moment and he's counting the numbers silently so they put up the
bingo card and i i sunk into the chair an auction block yeah and it's perfect because i'm like that's
the most fucking plantation area and i just it swerved me way back on to the incorrect path
but you know what it could be worse it could be worse because doing it in person having the auction
in the backyard i think there's a certain like you know old world sort of feeling of the imagine
if they're like all right go on to your ebay page buy now yeah like there there's a distance about
putting this oh putting this poor guy on ebay yeah and be like this black man comes with two-day
shipping but then that end goal is so much more sinister nefarious compared to just we don't like
your inferior race that it's you you get to this whole weird place now where you're like there you
get the marriage of discrimination and how it expresses itself in appropriation and it's sort of
like okay so there's an appreciation here what is that yeah that about a really good part is when
the main character wakes up and he sees the the tv screen of the guy that bought him and then he's
just like why black people why why us and he's like i don't care what color your skin is it doesn't
matter to me you have those eyes because you you have i'm blind you have the eyes of a now also
that's the dumbest thing ever it's like you have the eye of a photographer all i've got your power
i want your black shirt then you know you can see sure but i don't think you know whatever
but when he explains like i don't care it doesn't matter to me it's just like whatever so it's like
some some guys that that in other getouts previous to this where were the black guys in the
chair and the the guy must whoever bought them must be explained oh this is why everyone has their
own different reasons yeah some of them might even be racist who knows you don't know well i mean i i
look at the you talk about like framing things i look at that ufc conversation with the crazy son
maybe he's thinking about the whole jujitsu thing because he's like maybe i want a black body yeah
right exactly the grandfather who like is like running in the middle of the night like a man joined
by jesse owens who wants the black man's body because he wants to race like the guy that beat
him in front of hitler yeah you know like all of that lines up in such a very deliberate meticulous
way uh that i just like i was floored by how calculated and perfect it was um the end where
you're like oh my gosh the cop car the cop car it's not no yeah you just like that feeling of
like oh you're on top of her yeah yeah yeah all there like and then but then i and i my brain
went no wait hold on we're before it happened it even happened i'm like this is a coin flip
this is a coin flip because the only other cop car we saw in the movie was the beginning
with the cop that was going to ask for the identity right now was that because she didn't want anyone
to know where this guy was going to be when he goes missing in exactly days but like you get what
you think she's a hero for for doing that and it's like no right and you get that coin flip with
the cop car and it's like yes they didn't they went down to a precinct in the middle of the movie
and they didn't show you any other cop cars because they don't want your brain to associate anything
else that's good there were so many deeds and the affection was in the details with this film
even like everyone keeps talking about how i was texting with my sister about this like
48 hours after he watched the film like the the the detail of um you know when she types in
s e double a like top lines right yeah you're searching on the black man catalog everyone's
talking about like hey man this is super weird that like she's eating eating the cereal and milk
separate yeah she's eating fruit loops separating the color yes from the white milk yes like
absolutely right and think about that yeah and she was doing this in a way that was like it was
put like you want to make sure like that you when you finally um i don't know when you had your
dance about her i had them when they went when they left the house right i was like i was like
what if that talk that talk like i need a lake because he's pouring her heart out and she's like
you know i believe that she's like that because she's like let's just go and i'm like that is such
an awesome realistic thing where someone's like you're uncomfortable i get it and i'm like that's
peel doing something he's like i want to subvert a trope here i like that and then i was like but
what if it's not you know because the standard horror thing is like oh i don't know what's going
on i'm really uncomfortable no one just give it a few more days everything will be fine i don't
know how many horrors like it doesn't matter if it's race or whatever if some character says
this shit is no right everyone says give it a few more so when she was like when she was just like
all right no fuck it let's just go i was like yeah right but she was secretly like let's handle
the shit tonight wait like the clap slowed down a little but i wasn't sure you know photos we're
like now what was the the bisexual relationship that's what threw that threw off the set and then
the moment you see that at the end it's like it doesn't matter all right it doesn't matter it's
we're fishing everybody in yeah you know you're fucking grandmother man yeah uh whatever you
had sex with the body of your grandmother like what about that part you said where you're like um
the actress that plays the girlfriend when she's on the phone dude with uh the main characters
with a friend that's calling it yeah when you're wearing the emotion of concern coming out but your
face is a blank slate that is a horrid no no he didn't call me at all like i can't even do it
it's impossible to do it right now yeah voice actors oh my god voice actors have to when you
frown when a character you have to do it when mark hamill's playing the joker he has to get
loopy and his face has to emote yeah that's how you act as a human that it's like rubbing your tummy
and patting your head he's just waiting to fake an emotion is to just do the real emotion yeah
she was blank faced but her voice was going through all the affectation of it yeah i couldn't
believe it but then it reminded willy like you know adr doesn't exist couldn't you man don't know
for sure we'll give her the benefit of the doubt yeah um i i just like every angle of it you know
when when it was like of course you get the moment of and then it was sprinkled with comedy at the
right part i like that right i really appreciated that like everything when everything was really
tense the best friend came in to just sort of like lower yeah it's like they're obsessed with
there's like a sex thing for him like a v sex way or of course of course the one that when the
the grandmother walks out and she has the no no no moment and you're like oh what the fuck you're
super comfortable and then you get the bitch is crazy yeah it was perfectly timed with those
moments you know and of course the last beat of the film you know i told you not to go in the house
key and peel well yeah yeah right there they know they know how to how to just loosen it up man
i yeah i was just so many little things so many little things the the um like i didn't even catch
you know the first time when like the waitress is pouring out the the and she spills she still says
yeah yeah the the reason why it spilled that my girlfriend caught was because the tea she spins
the tea cup got hit like the mom was had the tea cup with the spoon oh my gosh get out of here and
she hits it for like just it makes a little bit of a sound that she was and that's what caused it i
never i didn't think about that because why would you at that point in the moment i pinned it as like
he said like oh i think that um like he was a bit paranoid that she was maybe mad that he was dating
a white girl and that he was part of that right right he was like paranoid about that okay like
that was yeah that was so cool because like i was like totally like felt that before like i like
i've totally felt that weird tension something's up rarer yeah or like when he meets the the grounds
keeper and he he comes to her he's like i think he probably has a thing for you and he doesn't
like that i'm dating you as well and uh the the the whole thing when the grounds keeper came running
at him and then the next day he's like i certainly hope my run didn't disturb you yeah and he's like
what he's like i was running and i made a sudden turd yeah yeah and then like again all these moments
of i knew i was being weird i'm sorry yeah i knew i was being weird the fact that he came to apologize
i was like oh that was sudden because that's like i guess the old guy going you don't want to lose
this guy either yeah they they had to have screwed up a couple of times i mean like the first scene
in the movie where andra gets kidnapped like yo that's lacrosse stick made the comeback at the end
of the movie that's what he hit him with over the head you're right he hit him with the lacrosse
stick yeah yeah and then at the end just twirling it around you know yeah yeah all right um and the
one thing in that moment when he's walking through the summer of at night i was like oh of course yep
yeah that was the mini moment right yeah that was the moment i was like okay they're gonna write this
right like capturing that in its authenticity and having you go okay and then i'm worried yeah he
you know that he knows right the thing i adore by the way is once this gets cranked up to 12 and it's
like fuck it it's on it's happening we're getting out right i love how the in there's always a thing
and you can you can back me up on this or not because maybe i'm wrong but i feel like in most
movies and especially in horror movies when it's time to actually start killing people and taking
lives as a protagonist it always has to be in self-defense or justified with like someone else
someone else's life is threatened or taken right in this movie it never actually got to the point
that someone died but what is happening is so sinister that he takes the first initiative
to absolutely murder them yeah and you're like that's hyper justified i'm way okay with it right
he kills everybody yeah and it's so okay i don't really think about it no it's not like a slaughterhouse
thing like there's a there's a similar there's a similar uh uh justice served in um jango yeah
under the same premise right that feels so much more like a slaughterhouse yeah than what he did
no and like and like the you know the girlfriend is the one she pulls the gun out and you're like
okay we're in the moment where it's like yeah you can do whatever because she shot a gun at you
but usually that scene has to happen first right and everyone's everything off yeah and then everyone
is like okay they're down they're down with murder great now they're bad guys we can morally mark them
off but it's like no no no no no no like here he drew first blood and it was brutal and violent
and super called for right you know like that just like that was well deserved and you didn't
and not flawless either because he got into that whole wrestle with of course yeah it wasn't like
it wasn't like a super perfect grab no you know grandma's lying on the ground all right grandma's
lying on the ground and you're like dude just get out just like i think i've seen too many horror
movies to like properly say like i'm gonna assume that there's somewhere something similar but like
i think it's probably uncommon where that happens where it's like yeah death needs to occur because
then you don't because suddenly you go oh that seemed a bit uh like no you're not a good guy you
did the bad thing because your main character was brought to the extreme all the way but no one
was hurt during it but he was brought to the edge of normally a character like go through a bunch of
like murders or like someone is being like chopped or my friend is dead or whatever what's going on
and then like then they figure out who it is but this is just nothing actually really happens until
like the last 15 minutes where he's like he's has the full story now you can go apeshit because
you've gotten the full story you didn't need a bunch of deaths to get there right or a bunch of
injustices done to you like what's going on yeah like he got hit over the head once yeah yeah even
the brainwashing movie that's like super duper fucked up ends with this punchline of the family
going like all right goodbye family film you know yeah man i can't wait to see what he said he wants
to make more social thrillers right similar genre thing here and like i'd love to see like you said
the vengeance trilogy handle it that way right where you have a thematic link but everything else
changes i'm sure yes so much it would be amazing and the genius here and the thing that i was i was
gonna say earlier is that like if someone else looks at this and goes oh that's awesome i love this i
want to do it too i feel like so many other people trying to attempt this material would fuck it up
because they wouldn't understand the subtlety of it yeah i was about to say i think it's almost
too subtle of a thing to rip off like you know the next the next subtle the next hack that comes
along is going to go yeah man bunch of racist hicks right let's get a bunch of like you know
in bread next zombie bread next and they're going to be like fuck them niggers and then they're
going to come out with their pitchforks and then that's going to be that and it's like no it's not
a whole thing this film doesn't demonize like white people no no it doesn't it's that these
particular people are insanely off right right this is evil on another level that it's not it's
beyond the racial spectrum hyper fetishization yeah yeah closer to that yeah so so i think you
would appreciate this but we have a term over here that we use when uh you got when the the fetish
happens or someone like whether it's whether it's uh uh white girl looking at black guy or
whether it's uh black guy looking at asian girl but we call it you hear the drums right
but you hear it's fucked up man i don't like that it's fucked up but you hear the the beats of
the jungle or the beats of the culture that you're unfamiliar with right but you can't you
bet you're but you're intrigued right and you want to know more would you like to know more
yes and i and like this came up when i was talking with i was going to talk about it
it's fucked up this for me like well here's what it is i was like you know when you go to the
lost woods in zelda and you hear and you have to follow that and see where it goes because you're
like i want to go there i want to see this over there right and i don't and i and again and i it's
not just in the sense that it's like uh it applies it's cross cultural right it's like
if you like when um you know that when when my my like is a god i was in a shitty relationship
before the current one i had where uh it turned out that i was just a fetish to the person i was
going out that shit freaks me i i can't get my mind around that like if i'm like messaging with
someone okay keep it or whatever and it's just like it maybe it's in the comment section or
other questions or whatever and or like we're talking and it's like yeah it's really into black
guys yeah i hate when the moment i'm like targeted it's like i feel like a piece of me or at the very
least it's like it's not even that like it's like if that's what's happening then that's what's happening
but when that's every interaction with me right like and and like in my case in this case it was
very it was hidden and on it was it didn't come out until it came out and when it came out that
was the end of that but it was it got it was so weird and i didn't know you know yeah and and
it's not that you can't be into things like being into things is totally natural and fine you can
but often there's baggage with it there's this expectation to at least for me like whatever
expectation to be this kind of way like not just to look like that yeah no no no what to have fit
in this the character with it right this particular kind of alpha absolutely i'm 100 not and that's
why i get nervous because i'm just like i have to let you know like if there's baggage tied to that
other than you just think i look great yeah i think chocolate's great too yeah sure but if it's
like beyond that like if you want me to do things yeah like i'm probably not gonna do them no if
you're looking for an attitude if you're looking for a certain type of person yeah out of this fetish
and that starts becoming what we talk about we're going in another place now you're and you present
that to me in a weird a way that's weird and off you're coming at me sideways i don't know about
that right look because it's like no one wants to no one wants to feel like they're being used
of course for it right whether they're famous or the ranch or they're whatever it is i still feel
like a dude of course and you know and it applies to like i don't feel like i'm a part of a paper
trap and it's not just it's not just to the x that is that was true to me that way it applies to
someone in my family who's just like yo how about the masians though right like yeah you like to
i know because i don't see it like that but that's and that thing is coming and coming at that
that way the that version of the conversation and it's just like oh i get it you hear the drums
you hear them in the distance and your head perks up and you just like what is that you know
so that's that's that kind of what's this intoxicating rhythm right and and and so it
stems from that little you take that little piece of like uh uh this other culture what about them
and then you just crank it until the knob falls off yeah and you get this movie man yeah um yeah
i yeah i it needs to be handled delicately it can't just be the racial aspect it can't just be
and you can't come in thinking that that's what it's gonna be because it's gonna it's gonna color
and ruin the whole experience exactly you have to just go and say i'm gonna watch a horror film
that's what i did yeah and if you and if you choose to if you choose to do this with um gender if
you choose to do this with uh sexuality like and there's so many other topics that you can pick
to handle this from but it's still it's it it's about the subtlety right and at the end you have
to land in a common place where everyone is looking at what's happening here and can genuinely agree
this is fucked up right beyond what you put in i think the beauty of that dovetails with the beauty
of which a lot of what chappell did dovetails with a lot of the stuff that key impealed it obviously
it's it's it's such a super scarce area but it's getting beyond or getting out of and doing away
with the white people versus black people and the white people do this and black people do this
humor like that very richard prior humor yeah like vines was famous for that and it was so
tasteless like because it was really not interesting like a lot of the people that were sort of consuming
that i feel like had a pretty basic understanding of the cultural differences and it wasn't really
funny as much as just kind of like interesting to see and when people would like caricature
eyes that and like turn into this big thing so yeah god it it had this inverse effect where
it was like this chicken or the egg where like black people are like thugs and like
white people are hyper proper puritan like dutch dramatic like whatever like yeah drive like this
yeah versus ten and two like it it throws away an entire spectrum and it's really cheap right
and like what get out does that a lot of key impealed it and a lot of chappell did was that
it toyed with the nuances instead it's like why are some of these differences the way that they are
and why are they interesting or why it just it digged into that in a way that i think i don't
know okay i don't even work for it now i'm not going to pretend for a second that i didn't laugh
my ass off at the funniest black vines and black twitter posts that happen of that moment i laughed
at those i like that was so real like some of them were just the best but there was a some of the
reason i laughed at it was more like this is like a good way to grieve like i'm laughing off tension
i'm not going to pretend it didn't happen but there was a second third and fourth wave of like
all right now someone else is trying to do this that like is just characterizing like what they
think that type of comedy is supposed to be and it's not that you can't do it but you're particularly
missing the mark right someone else could have landed it someone else who is better at comedy
someone else who knows how to work it and you know like i i i bring this up from the in times but
like my favorite can be some of my favorite comedians i love louis ck i love jello okay right
those dudes are masters of their craft and they throw the n word out on stage in the middle of
genius bits where everyone comes back and goes like yeah okay i i get exactly what you were doing
there right they'll throw they'll fucking use it because they know how they get that when you're
bad at making jokes you will just fail at it and then that's true that's and what the end result is
is like it's not even that you offended people say you weren't funny right that you miss the mark
completely and and so there were derivative vines and things like that that went to that place that
i was like all right let's fucking step back a minute here you miss the mark you know but that
that's my take no i'm totally with you yeah video games but no it was no it was that's a
strut get out a telltale adventure yeah yeah oh but that would actually work but though yes
but wait though but though hold up though but wait this is conversations and reading a person
making decisions in what you say decisions in what you say they don't remember that they go remember
episode five get out there was one thing that totally i don't forget retell that's retell as well
there was this thing that i was watching this interview with airy spears you remember airy
spears yeah yeah and like they were interviewing him and he was talking about jordan peel and
like that for the first time i tumbled on that rabbit hole because i found out that there was
actually like big parts of like the black community people in radio land kids see i'm using air quotes
because it's like it's such a wide spectrum i don't know what that means but like there it's like
this chunk of people like me that really don't like jordan peel and they don't like that they don't
like the key and peel kind of humor because they feel like they're all older i think and it might
just be age but they feel like he's not like real right so okay so like airy spears the way that he
describes he's like you know man like you know it's a comedy business i don't want people to come
and say like that i'm just salty because i sold out but like you know jordan peel like i'm really
happy for him like get out and all that um but you know if he if he was around us you know if he
if he you know came out where where we live like you'd be able to smell him out you know like this
whole bit is like it's like it's like it's like he's a black guy dressed as a white guy we're doing
blackface like we're doing this yeah we're doing the you know exactly what i'm talking about oh i'm
sorry yeah no you're not black but your your attitude is is something that we don't get it's
it's fucking confirming the same stupid shit man where it's like black is a state of mind exactly
and it's like you it's like your entire shtick thank you you're just saying but all right you're
holding yourself back by saying that like there was only one way to be right the way that you like
the whole the whole movement is like the whole movement any movement really is based around
like amplifying small voices right and like what jordan peel is doing what donal glover is doing
like they're amplifying that small voice to community within the community that we probably
belong to yeah like that didn't get a chance you know what i mean and like the fact that it gets
stuffed out it's like you're just a you're just a black bro that's you're just a bro dude the
the equivalent right like as like yeah you'll be able to step it out but it's like that doesn't
matter like i stopped caring about like he's all right but he's not real like dude that's not
interesting to me i have a notch that go that follows me around that says that i am the whitest
sounding black youtuber period it is the thing it is it is it's it's attached to me yes and i get
the funny i get the jokes man you know what i mean i get the funny but i was gonna say because
like the like yes it's funny as muse asking you are you lost sir yes you belong here i love muse
but like it just just in general though like well we did a video before where we were where i think
it was like this never whatever and and you were like yeah yeah black as a state of mind i was like
yeah of course it is as a joke but like the the other sort of side of it is like watching a movie
like like get what well first of all what did peel do before this like they were talking about tv
appeal okay and then a couple of their acting gigs like vargo and and yeah yeah so so i went into it
like with not really an understanding because it did the kiana movie before which i never saw it
and never understood because it because we said it crossed with that weird kevin spacey cat movie
or something like that and uh i had no prior like understanding of of those other previous works
and i just went went into this just going like yeah it's a really good horror movie and again
i thought the premise was racism and stuff and i thought that's all it was so when you saw it and
you were kind of like no but it works on like another level for me and i was like well yeah of
course it would because in the first 10 minutes the movie i was uncomfortable but i didn't know why
yet but i'm just like that way where i'm like what's going on here i don't know but it was like that
like again i don't have that nerve and you did and it invites you on the plane
and it's gonna take a seat yeah yeah all right yeah i'm gonna let you and you know what i'm not
locking the cockpit door you're gonna see what the pilot seems right for a minute yeah you know
that's that's what i love about that and that means something and it does way more than the kind of
social like currency because it's just social currency that erie spirit talks about where you
just sort of like yeah you know like he talked about keanu's like yeah those films those films
will be really good like um a lot of white people will show up and it was that thing was like
all right i see what you're doing so because white people can participate that makes it lame
that's dumb like that's a dumb way to measure whether something's cool or not like dude it's
just it doesn't it's just it's the 90s ass it's it's beyond 90s it's it's it's it's i'm not sure
you've seen white people but we're pretty cool i don't know like i've been told i'm cool you
say 90s i say like 1790s like you know what i mean it's it's beyond ridiculous to me and it's like
it's especially hammered home when like i said like i have that that you know that that thing that
follows me which is like the way i talk and whatnot people don't even know they until the last second
or whatever they you know and it's just like motherfucker like i'm canadian right i was raised
in a completely different environment yeah well that's what i say i'm sorry what you consider
the quote unquote black experience and the people who i went to school with that sound like what you
think the quote unquote black experiences are doing it because they watch fucking tv right
they're just imitating it because they think that's what's supposed to happen like you in middle
school and then they discovered bet and then they change and then they change that's with all my
friends it's insane like and it's just right you know now for me for just i guess being me
keeping it yeah anyway that's another topic that's the place you grew up is so weird like kebek
and the things you watched and you consumed yeah like your voice was forged over reboot and having
to talk english in that school that you're in but also having to talk like just a bit of french and
and do i was in french immersion for two years and then i got to learn about the i had a teacher
that was literally like she had a hate crusade against english-speaking people and treated me
like she picked me out and treated me like shit in our class not because of anything except that i
was an anglophone in a class of francophones like it's a whole other weird level with some canadian
stuff you know but but but i digress you know i i guess the one last thing i just wanted to say
with get out was that i was so happy when we had that moment where he looked at the deer in the
beginning and i was like okay we're sure you're telling us something about this character but
i hope it's just not generic that deer is gonna haunt me for mysterious unknown reasons i was
so happy when not even 10 minutes later it's like nah dude his mom he has a backstory to that that
weird moment he had but the deer is insanely well explained and it's a completely human reaction to
what happened left it out to die you know and that was a that was an incredibly strong moment
that just doubles down on how good a pick he was and how smart they were when they were like that
happened so he had that thing as an anchor point that charges his relationship with his girlfriend
charges the relationship she do not do that she do everything is conventionally fine and then
shit goes down and there's one through line but for that there were like two and three she denies
the cigarette so that he was going to crave it more later and when he wakes up after they have sex
to go for that late night smoke his bag is open the box is out the box is open the cigarettes in the
case when he gets up to smoke his bag was closed whatever they did their thing he wakes up in
the middle of the night goes i'm gonna have a smoke because he looks at the bag how much how much is
that intentional how much could that be a continuity error i i am putting it down there they want
because i could that's a point they pegged out the weakness early on at dinner okay she did the
research or be even before that okay and then when he woke up in the middle of the night and was
like yeah okay and he looks over and it cuts to the most like madman-esque advertising perfect shot
of his pack of smokes sticking out of his bag box open when otherwise she was hiding them from him
you know with the cell phone like not charging thing i'm inclined to believe yeah those two things
go hand in hand take your vice take it outside we're gonna wipe your fucking brain yeah yeah okay
yeah spoiler cast over that was great i i that was really good that was really good yeah i got a
black man i really enjoyed that yeah well i want to do an ad something they do an ad something like
sure i this is just the thing that i feel like i have to get out there because i don't know how
many people are going to talk about it and i am conscious like i don't know like it is something
that i was excited about that i hope other like mixed kids are kind of excited about which was
sort of like like at the end of the day like it's funny like Dave Chappelle he does i won't be too
long like um one of the skits he's known for is sort of like having this like racial draft pick
or whatever and what i thought was really cool about that skit that you did like with Wu Tang like
when he was chinese yeah other stuff is like it's something that we do all the time like
Barack Obama is like he's a mixed kid right but he's sort of claimed oh yeah culture right tiger
yeah and in that in that tiger he's claimed Jordan Peele he's claimed um i think there's
something really interesting about me being uh being a mixed kid like speaking as one where like
um for myself like i grew up like with white family members who care a lot about me and like
babysat me and because of that like i've always had like a comfort that i think a lot of my friends
who grew up in like ethos such a context didn't um but that doesn't erase like a very like precise
like experience of other like a feeling of other and what was really cool about what Jordan Peele
addressed in this film was capitalizing on that without making it seem like this tribalistic thing
like this tribalistic like like beating of the chest one versus the other and i thought that
that even though that really wasn't kind of like the center of it um it was something
that was handled really well in a way that like a lot of people were able to understand that's it
dude when sash comes around it gets real things good to you every time i love sash that is real
i love your time um i know that uh yeah like like you don't have too too much time so we do i do
want to the to um jump back onto packs because i two interesting things came up that have been
things that we've been circling about one was uh nidhogg two right yeah nidhogg two was something
to some people yeah we were all wondering what's going on with nidhogg and why does it look like
this and what's the decision what was the choice that was made here and especially i remember leon
was really curious about this and i got to ask mesh off himself you know if the choice was something
that he built based on the original vision of i think one of our theory yeah one of our theories
was maybe this is what they wanted to it from the get go right and he explained these like we went
through a couple different iterations we even had a hyper serious realistic knights fighting in a
dark somber environment art style that would have been actually cool in the complete opposite way
but but he just he's like you know what that's not the attitude of get the dick that's not the fun
of like the nidhogg experience but i would have liked a dark somber thing and it still says get
the dick yeah but like he just kind of went and he just went back to it he's like that's not fun
and this artist that he worked with for the art style of the dog too he loved it he just like i love
the style i think it's really fun and i think it captures the mood of the game more so
i went with it and i'm like you know what that's fine i still don't prefer it you know yeah but in
the end it's nidhogg but better it's got great weapons i still don't get the bone hour 100% i
think it's a little bit weak he says it's really strong it's a nerf it but either way nidhogg is
going to be great it's going to be back and outside of the fact that you don't like the art style
it's going to be fucking great you know nidhogg is really fun um and uh the iconoclasts was there
and we played uh noi too love 2 on the channel which is what game conjac made this is his next
game he's been working on it for the last seven eight years or so uh everyone's been looking forward
to this has been a big thing got to try it and realize that this is so much more deliberate and
like a specific pixel by pixel platformer whereas noi too love is just kind of insane run and gun
action you can fly you can shoot you can kill everything in five seconds here it's like you
can you there's no wall jump there's nothing under nothing there's everything's deliberate
and like anything that's just out of reach can be barely reached by charging up your shot jumping
and shooting it down for a slightly extra boost but that's about as much as you're getting you
know so iconoclasts feels very different from his previous work but it's going to be good too um
and yeah i'm going to leave it there for pecs because i feel like i can keep going but that's
enough uh for me um there's a yeah there's like two more things i want to jump on real quick because
we did a video for it already but um i played like a new version of dusk yes which is like the
kind of uh quake era first was the shoot we played back in october and uh it was pretty funny where i
was starting to play the game and i was like oh cool new enemies knew whatever and then i hear like
yo matt you suck in pierogi's rule and i was like why do i know this what what hello and there's
see this friendly looking guy and he comes up to me and he's just like hey yeah i'm working on this
game and i listen to the podcast so i was like oh cool i didn't know and he's like yeah yeah so i'm
super super psyched you guys you know played the demo before and uh i played the new version of that
and it was just it had the crazy stuff from the earlier trailers where if you're going to do it
onto a jump pad you can jump up really high in the air but if you turn the mouse as you're jumping
you do a stupid backflip and you can see the entire world like spin around you as you're shooting
and he was very honest he's like there's not a lot of practical use to this move it looks really cool
though but that's about it but you can do it you don't need to do it but i thought it was
oh but those are the fight fuck it fight for those keep those in no no no they're totally yeah yeah
he's like you do it to look cool and it's like it's really hard to shoot things when you're doing
this and he showed me all the color filters and some of these color filters are named jensen
a fury dragon and a couple of others to make it look like the piss filter from day sex or make
it look like a blood dragon for example so okay i checked that out the new blood booth and uh yeah
really enjoyed it and uh last kind of thing i think you played it for a second but i it kind of
scratched an itch for me which is redeemer violence awakens of course which if i could describe it
as anything it's it's diablo meets god of war so think of diablo's sort of like or diablo one
or two sort of color palette and uh you know uh three quarters overhead perspective but with
the gameplay of god of war was just really fast really brutal like melee tons of melee weapons
but then you're like this pissed off monk because your your monk order is getting killed kind of
like a viking almost in some ways yeah goes into his dojo like it's it's actual asian looking
month like it looks like the monk from diablo and uh and then he picks up a shotgun he's like
what is this weapon and he's going away dudes and i was just like this is this is just immediately
scratches my dumb like i want to kill things really quick and it just feel fast and camera swings
really really close in for like certain certain execution so there's so that if you search this
game on google or whatever a lot of screenshots make it look like it is god of war because the
camera so uh zoomed in for these for these moments and stuff um and yeah aside from that uh there's
a couple of the games but i think we can get to them some other time party hard two yeah is also
vastly improved a party hard one which i played a whole bunch but yeah yeah lots still lots of
games to talk about for packs if you want to uh i think later time maybe but uh yeah is there
anything that like no i really okay with that then let's let's just take uh three quick emails
we'll say if you have an email you want to send it to us you can send it to super best friend
cast at gmail.com that is what's that email address try it again super best friend cast at gmail.com
thank you and uh yeah let's just take some quick ones uh okay who would win between the blackface
boys and black force well hold on a minute now let's not go there uh saslo says will he stop
saying what not okay well nevermind that's then what not uh i was going for that too um okay aran
says uh blood and kitty games every time little wolves beef's heart in tony hawk underground
i see a fountain of blood shoot out of his mouth and plaster the sidewalk you guys never talk about
it what is your opinion on blood showing up in games or combat fighting is not the focus or even a
part of the game you know what like using the example tony hawk underground i think it's kind
it does look silly like it wasn't really needed it doesn't add anything because it's not a mature
rated game so i could understand if it was like an over-the-top thing and tony hawk underground
was more silly it's like yeah i spludged a bunch of stupid blood on the ground but because it's
just a little bit of blood it doesn't do much and it's out of tone with what the game is really
i feel like it makes the wipeouts that are really hard feel harder so it sells in those moments
but but i guess to the more general crest of blood in like kitty games it yeah it would be
really weird if like a sudden like i had something even more at targeted an even younger demographic
had suddenly like spurts of blood and gore and guts and whatnot that was a weird Kirby game but
yeah but at the same time like think about how in general in north america were super taboo about
like you can have as much guts and blood as you want as long as it covers that naked blood you
know what i mean like a titty yeah we're really really weird when it comes to the other side of
things so i don't know i i just find if there's other entries like the first couple tony hawk
games i'm pretty sure i don't think there was blood in them so having an entry start having blood
like there's a couple of like most godzilla movies don't have any blood but then randomly some godzilla
movies they're fucking blood founds they're kill billing all over the place and i'm like as it just
comes off as kind of weird or maybe even forced like oh what can we do here i just have tons of
blood i'm like but that's not in line with what you kind of did when you have this certain atmosphere
and expectation just having random things happen like that just feels off to me even in a mature
game if you're not going for over the top camp and you're and you're shooting geysers of blood out
at every two set every two seconds it still is like what are you doing like relax you're really
weird the blood in mk versus dc there's a bit of blood but not a whole lot it just looks like like
there should be more blood coming out of these hands but there's just like a little spur you're
like oh okay that's kind of a half measure but sure whatever yeah i don't it's it's weird i feel
for some reason that the thing that is more acceptable though is showing like bruises and
black eyes and stuff like that with the cartoons instead that is more brutal but i feel that's
more brutal yeah i always felt like when you see an old bugs bunny cartoon or even something that
where like someone's got like giant like swelling droopy purple yeah and it's like your face has been
beaten to a pulp and it's like that's way rather just a ton of blood shoot out of your face yeah but
as long as you got a little cross bind date on it it's fine yeah um and then we'll take one from
um nelson and he says uh super special awesome friends uh if you were a professional fighter
wrestler or whatever name your theme song as you walk out um this is constantly in flux for me
it's gonna change like i you know what i mean it's you can't you know you can just get a moment
right yeah and like as though the as the mario party block is spinning i'm gonna jump right now
and say what currently like right now it's uh shook ones part two uh by mob deep that beat is
ridiculous and i would love to walk out to that and feel that intensity you know what i'm talking
about yeah okay all right that's that's that's what it is right now uh spice up your life by the
spice girls beautiful yeah i support it i spice up people's life you got one just for today it
can change tomorrow no one's gonna hold it to you oh my gosh uh it would be the ferriman
sound says get the fuck out dude a friend a dude i know online like he made a remix of marvel
versus capcom 2 and edited all the music and one of the tracks was that and the intro track was
mama said knock you out and i was like you killed it it's done it's done put a fork in it yeah okay
now that you see that like i realized it's like yeah whatever moods change like yeah mama said knock
you out or jump around by house of pain like you hear like it's like round one the battle for survival
begins and you just hear
what is uh going on with you guys where can people find your stuff satch
what you got coming out what's happening uh i have a couple things uh mix sake monday uh it's a show
that i do every monday show people some hot tracks that are coming out um cool stuff on soundcloud
usually intersectional with like video games like nerdy shit trip tunes whatever um that's
going to be coming back very soon in full force i'm really excited for that um some new case studies
on youtube so yeah promise i'm a youtuber i guess that's assumed right um mostly doing videos of
the intersection of like i think we're melcom x wow yeah um mostly doing case studies i like the
intersection see that laughter see that laughter that was the last video that was it that was it
we got it you didn't know that's that's a pocket lap yeah put the you put the gun back in the holster
man um yeah did some did some videos on some gta 5 and the wolf of wall street fire watch um
uh sign of three like it really doesn't matter the time period usually cover it i have a couple
of other things i'm tuning up with some neuroscientists and some people in other fields to look at some
games the actual okay this okay yeah to see if you know some of these games are are up to snuff
but the things that they talk about um so there's some things on the way right now but you can
follow me on twitter it's satchel drakes uh satchel like a bag with an extra l and then drakes you
should know how to smell that and i do a lot of gooning on there um do a lot of stuff on and
off of youtube but it's all on there and i'll end up sharing all of that there cool yeah uh what do
we got coming as for us um i think everything yeah tony hawk's still going yeah we're gonna i think
one more we got one more session we got one more session i'll have to do so that'll that'll be finishing
like within this week or two and then the new lp is going to replace it then a new lp is going
to replace it are we saying which one that you can if you want uh well uh since i mean i mean the
the new one that you and yes yes uh so since um persa e finished up
yakuza zero is is starting so that's that's gonna be a while oh yeah that's gonna be going on you're
in for the long haul on an amazing intro uh done uh by voltabase uh that dude is the best yeah i know
and if you didn't know who he was you know now you will know his name yeah you will know him by
trail of dead um i invite you to check out what he did for me over at my channel woolly versus

thanks for coming out who would actually win between blackface boys and black force i don't
want to have this conversation on microphone
