What do you guys think of all the carnivore-ness?
I'm a big fan of it.
I'm a proponent of really any strategy that will help people to lose weight.
Any diet that promotes people to eat more protein, I'm all for.
If you're eating like steak, chicken, fish, you're going to get full, dog.
What can they expect with their poop?
I've seen both sides.
You know, I've seen people have trouble going to the bathroom.
I've also seen people just talk about disaster pants.
If somebody's thinking like, damn, I can't have rice with my meat.
How am I going to get through this?
Have that fucking maple bacon.
That shit's amazing.
If you're somebody that has had trouble and you struggled with diet for a long time and then now you're on carnivore, you're going to feel a massive shift and you're probably not going to feel great.
and now you're on Carnivore,
you're going to feel a massive shift and you're probably not going to feel great.

Maybe you have some fucking Congolese or Nigerian in there.
But isn't that where we all started, right?
We all started in the same spot.
Yes.
Technically, yeah.
Yes, we did, my brothers.
Yes, we did, my brothers.
I ran away from the microphone.
Hey, you can legitimately say that.
It's what, 1.3% Congolese for you or how much? I don't know. You keep taking more away from the microphone hey you could legitimately say that it's what 1.3 congolese for you or how
much you keep taking more away from me you had two percent companies in you too yeah okay i need to
carry that around i know in case you say the wrong thing i i got a card in the mail you know that i
get to flash whenever i get put in a bad spot again we always have to say the congolese have
the biggest penises on the planet so that 2% went to the right spot for you, buddy.
I'll take whatever I can get.
Susan Brown was here.
I chuckled inside when you were like, you know, I actually had to stop pumping because my dick got too big.
I wasn't going to say that on air, though.
Well, now that everybody knows.
Blow up the case that it came in break it no
more serious than that that's kind of that's kind of a yeah that's kind of like a
baller move though to be like i can't pump because i get too big so yeah
it's uh it's complicated guys i don't know if i'm allowed to
speak about it well too late i've
spoken about it uh fuck um all right well put him in the hot seat so there's certain positions
well a position that i enjoy that when i was pumping was it was it wasn't comfortable for everybody involved it's a bit too much it was
for party yeah yeah and so i had to stop pumping because it was i was getting too long basically
this was happening so you know what stop you should get that oh nut thing that she showed
us remember i know yeah because then you can you can but i'm good I'm good. I'm great. And do what you like. Happily married.
100% taken.
No chance of wavering from that.
It's just I had to stop pumping because we're the perfect size for each other.
And it has nothing to do with me being too big for the average or whatever.
It's just found my mate.
So, yeah.
Is there a correlation that your back pain went away when you stopped pumping?
I don't think so.
You sure about that?
No.
Because I wonder if you start pumping if your back pain will come back. No, no, no, no, no, no.
No, no, no, no.
Can we move on, please?
I don't like this.
Moving on.
We were talking about football.
I was all excited.
And now we... Yeah, you guys are helping me out because I didn't like this. Moving on. We were talking about football. I was all excited. And now we...
Yeah, you guys are helping me out because I didn't...
I never...
I was wondering how often you guys watch football.
And the only thing I knew about was Sunday football.
But then you guys mentioned that there are other days when they have football.
There's Monday night football.
And then, like I said, at the end of the season, it gets to be kind of complicated.
There's also Thursday night football. And then, yeah, at the end of the season, it gets to be kind of complicated. There's also Thursday night football.
And then, yeah, towards the end of the year, like towards Thanksgiving time, they start putting games on like Saturday.
They have a game.
They always have a game on Thanksgiving Day.
Two games on Thanksgiving Day.
And now it might even be three games.
Same with Christmas.
They're spreading games out like crazy too because there's like sometimes two games on Monday night football now, which is weird.
I don't know why they did that, but football on all the time.
I love football.
I've been watching it since I was a kid.
I've been a huge fan.
I'm not so crazy about it though where I don't feel like I have to watch it.
I'll just come home from working out or doing whatever it was for the day, and I'm like, ah, football's on.
I'm like, fucking cool.
And I'll put it on.
I'll sit in front of the TV for a while.
I'll even leave during the game.
Like, I don't – I'm not so glued to it being like, oh, man, it's, like, tied up and I got to stick around.
If it was, like, four minutes left, maybe I would do that.
But the game goes on forever.
Especially the rest.
And I'm not going to just, like, waste my whole day just sitting there aimlessly for no reason.
But I do enjoy watching it. I do like keeping up on it. And I'm not going to just waste my whole day just sitting there aimlessly for no reason.
But I do enjoy watching it.
I do like keeping up on it.
If I missed it for the day, I'll click on ESPN and check it out that way as well.
Yeah, last year I watched more football than I have in a long time, but that's because I would watch more highlight clips and stuff because I was in fantasy football.
And that forced me to pay attention to
like who's doing well or who's whatever who i need a bench start it took up way too much of my time
i'm never doing it again i took it way too serious got too competitive yeah i never got into that i
happened to win my league i can brag about that for the rest of my life because i'm never playing
again do people do like bets oh yeah yeah okay they get they get pretty creative though so like
it can get like way over the top where like people have to get a certain tattoo if they, like, lose or something.
Or, you know, it's usually something kind of embarrassing.
But sometimes they can play for money, of course.
I like football so much, though, that I will pause the game and I'll break the game down like I'm fucking John Madden.
And I'll be like, this receiver is right here.
He's going to go here. They're going to throw it over the middle because they're in this receiver is right here he's gonna go here they're
gonna throw it over the middle because they're in the they're in the zone coverage right here
that's great and i show my wife and she it's kind of cool she's like picked it up yeah gets
she gets almost all of it which is kind of cool and then like we're watching a game with
in-laws or something and andy will say something and people like look at her like what the fuck
that's cool like you're not just a casual
football watcher.
Have there been any new teams
within the past few years? I know
it's not like we have new states or anything, but do they
add teams or is it just the same however
many teams? Yeah, there was expansion
teams, but there hasn't
been an expansion team in a while.
Some of the teams shuffle around like the Raiders
when they were in LA and Oakland and LA and la and oakland and now they're in las vegas so that's
probably the newest change okay right yeah and then also like the uh the redskins aren't the
redskins yes there you go there's the commanders the commanders you don't seem too happy about that
it's just interesting well it's better Because there's like people that are complaining now that they're the commanders versus, you know, people petitioning against it and people petitioning for it.
Yeah.
And then they also they went like an entire season just being called the Washington football team because they couldn't come up with a name.
And like that, I don't know, that just seems wild.
Do they change it from like an Indian man to something something else let's see yeah that was the the problem but yeah now people
are kind of like hey check out the uh clip that i sent you of the jets guys i don't know if you
guys happen to see this i sent it in our little text thread but we send a lot of shit back and
forth sometimes we don't all get to see it all i can't keep up and like one of us is like
taking a shit looking at instagram and the other one's not probably oh yeah you need audio on this
one uh i don't think there is any audio but it's a jets guy like saying fuck you to everybody he's
like pointing at people in the crowd f you f you and then he gets way into it later he's like no
no no not you no f you the funny thing is that jets were getting
killed in this game too so it's like he's losing they're probably talking trash to him he probably
couldn't take it anymore that's the worst i wonder if he got fined for that it looks so funny
probably it looks like a joke they can't be he smiled he's like fuck you
having that big of a person point you out like that, I'd be like, oh, shit.
I'm out of here.
It is cool, though, as a fan, when you see somebody, like one of your players,
like getting into it like that, like George Kittle.
I think when they beat the Cowboys, he had a shirt under his jersey that said,
like, fuck Dallas or something like that.
I was like, damn.
And he's all fired up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then they lost three games in a row after
that football how'd you guys manage some of your food over the holidays oh yeah was it kind of same
old thing or did you switch anything up did you eat whatever you wanted how'd you do it
no man it was simple i kept i kept the protein up um i've added a bit more carbs to my diet uh nothing crazy
though it's still i think less than 200 a day proteins high fats right a good amount didn't
really gain much feeling good yeah yeah i think like the average person gains like four or five
pounds every year and then they just unfortunately they don't address it yeah i um i
had mentioned this on i think a live stream or something we did but um there wasn't like a lot
of protein around um and i had multiple christmas parties to go to and each one i was less and less
prepared for because it was like one after another and on top of that it was like late night and i'm
not used to that so it like kind of you know was like a domino effect on the rest of the days.
But because there wasn't like a lot of great options, I just didn't eat that much.
And I would go home really hungry and I'd like make some eggs before bed.
But I know weight loss is like a struggle for a lot of people.
But because I did this this I ended up losing
like six pounds which I don't want to do because I just ate less and it was just
a matter of like well this isn't gonna help me like doing wrong I did I had
those peanut butter balls I had like a couple of other things but like I didn't
go over the top with anything and then the food itself like you know we're
Mexican so we eat tamales and there's just
not enough protein in them so I didn't eat that many say that again that sounds sexy tamales I
was gonna say tamales and I'm like no I'm gonna say the real word the real name uh you know because
you eat tamales you eat rice you eat beans like it's all carbs and a little bit of protein I'm
like man like this is delicious but I'm gonna be starving soon so I just need to like kind of aware that I'm going to be really hungry in a little bit and then just keep my mind busy on something else.
I think Mexican food is like really satisfying.
It's so good.
You know, like there's some food where it seems like you end up with like this insatiable appetite that can't be like – can't be cured.
But if I have a big-ass burrito or something, like I'm pretty good.
You know, like I don't – I'm i'm not thinking oh i need like more maybe a few hours later maybe i'm thinking like it would
be great to have another burrito but if i fill up on some really good food like that i'm pretty like
full on like i don't need any more of that do you guys sell burritos in mexico to mexicans
or like to latin americans or latinxs oh god what am i supposed
to do here one more time do you what do mexicans like you know how like over here we have orange
chicken and in china they don't fucking have orange chicken well you know yeah yes yes wait
what oh yeah they don't have kung pao chicken either did you know that well where'd it come from then I bet right
I'm kidding
I have no idea
what's going on here
in Italy
they don't have
stuffed crust cheese
like pizza
what
what the fuck
do you know what's actually
before you answer the question
in that documentary
the twin study thing
I haven't seen it yet
what was it called again
you are what you eat
they showed
they're like
they're showing a map or whatever of like I think heart disease are what you eat they showed um they're like they're showing a map
or whatever of like i think heart disease or some shit and they showed like african americans and
asian americans and guess what they called y'all oh no the latin x's it's now everywhere y'all are
just now the latin x's maybe that's just a fucking boomer thing of me that just doesn't like knew
anything so i don't know if maybe I got to come around on that.
You know, over there, they don't give a fuck.
No, I have not met one Mexican that's like, yeah, no, that's cool.
It doesn't happen.
I think to answer your question, I think it's also because we are so close to Mexico being in California.
It transfers over pretty easily.
Yeah.
You can go to any mexican restaurant like especially in
woodland where i grew up and you're gonna get some authentic mexican food guadalajara
yes yeah oh man that's a really good place oh it's a restaurant yeah okay yeah um but like uh
chipotle is i like it's good it's not authentic uh dos coyotes the fuck out of here like it. It's good. It's not authentic. Dos Coyotes. Get the fuck out of here. I like Dos Coyotes.
It's good.
I'm just saying that shit ain't real.
But it's fine.
Dos Coyotes?
The obvious Taco Bell.
That's American as fuck.
But it's good, too.
How about Arrebretos?
Yeah.
Yeah, that's good, too.
Okay.
That's amazing food there.
Okay. Yeah.
Yeah.
What do you guys think of all the carnivore nests
you know a lot of people are talking about the carnivore diet we've talked
about it many times we have Shawn Baker coming on the show pretty soon and I'm a
big fan of it I'm a proponent of really any strategy that will help people to
lose weight however I do think there are things that people need to be cautious
of like if you're not if you're exercising, you're not moving a lot,
then I don't really think it makes sense to eat like three pounds of meat every day.
If I haven't shared that in the past, forgive me.
But it's just something like I've tried to be more thoughtful of people being in different places
with their fitness and people doing different things.
And that's why I try my best to just share what I do.
I'm usually like, hey, this is what I do.
This is what has been helpful for me.
And maybe you'll find it to be helpful for yourself.
But regardless of the style of diet, whether it's keto or carnivore or any other style
of diet, you know, we always do have to try to keep in mind the amount of overall energy
that you're consuming.
And so you do have to probably be cautious.
And to me, it makes sense.
I have never noticed a profound, a bigger profound difference in just being all carnivore all the way.
I have done that many times.
I did it for weeks.
I did it for months.
I did it for 100 days in a row.
And it was interesting to try out. But I wasn't like any leaner. I didn't notice performance benefits. It just seemed like I was forcing myself to do something that was monotonous to a certain extent. And I didn't didn't.
um was monotonous to a certain extent and i didn't didn't uh even if you switched up the meats and stuff it was yeah it was still too much of the same thing and then like um you know having like
diarrhea and like all that kind of stuff is kind of gross you know and it takes a while for it to
go away but rather than like wait for it to go away i would just say to somebody that's trying
that now and they're going through that just eat
some fucking fruit eat some vegetables and it most likely will go away yeah it's carnivore diet
is great because for a lot of people that let's say that they were eating a lot of processed meat
right and uh let's say maybe partially a standard american diet, if you're eating steak, chicken, fish,
and you're eating whole food meats,
you're going to get full, dog.
And you're going to be like, wow, I ate two steaks.
Because it's hard to eat three pounds of meat.
You know what I mean?
Someone's going to try to put that down and be like,
ooh, this is a feast.
And then they'll be like, oh, God.
Right?
Especially multiple days in a row.
Yeah, right?
And it gets monotonous.
So it's good because it'll help people limit calories a bit.
But I do think if if you're not someone who has issues with fruit, right, you don't have like you don't eat something and then you break out in hives or you start to feel gut issues and you can handle some vegetables, you can fucking handle some fermented foods like like I love kimchi.
You can handle some vegetables.
You can fucking handle some fermented foods.
Like I love kimchi.
I have kimchi every fucking day.
I started getting some sauerkraut too recently, which is – I love all that stuff too.
But I love kimchi, right?
So like I'll have that with like all my meals.
I'll have some apples.
And I still eat a lot of meat.
And I think that you can do that.
If you don't need to eliminate certain things, then why? The main reason to do carnivore is to help you eat more protein, become more satiated, and eat less of the crap that you used to probably binge on.
That's what I think.
I love the carnivore diet for what you just said about the protein.
Any diet that promotes people to eat more protein, I'm all for.
protein I'm all for and and that's really what it comes down to for me and like not necessarily promoting or I don't know being a fan of like a vegan
diet I know they get protein in a different way but as far as like bio
availability and like funness and flavor and all that good stuff it just seems
like a carnivore diet will help you eat more protein easily yes and in this
country we don't eat enough protein so if people just experience what it feels
like to be you know to be on a protein like high diet i think i think a lot of the the stuff that
it cures or that it helps comes from just people eating more protein and less crap like you just
said yeah getting rid of some of that junk out of your diet is uh has huge benefit and we know so
many people have had, you know,
we had Chad Mendez on the podcast. Um, he had some just real serious, uh, skin issues. I think
he had psoriasis and, uh, we recently, uh, clipped, uh, that for Instagram, I think. And that ended up
going pretty viral because his skin condition was really, really bad. I'm sure he's had intervention
of other things. Like he, he's had intervention of other things.
He probably mentioned it on that podcast.
It probably wasn't just a singular thing.
Probably wasn't just a carnivore diet.
But when you're in your 30s and you've had this skin issue for a really, really long time, probably over a decade, if not longer, what's the contributing factor to something that led him to have success to not
have this any longer and i think uh you know he has credited the carnivore style diet so if you're
someone that has you know an autoimmune disease um you're somebody that um just really sensitive
to certain types of food i think an elimination diet like a carnivore diet makes a lot of sense
your body's going to run really well off of some protein and fats, and it might be a great route to go.
And then once you start to go in that direction, then you might be able to see what else you can add back in into your diet.
You might be able to add fruit and vegetables and so on.
Let me ask you this.
Let me ask you this. You know, when people like eliminate a lot of a lot of stuff when they do carnivore, what do you think maybe they should try keeping in even though wouldn't be carnivore, right?
Yeah, I don't again, I don't see any real reason to get rid of fruits, vegetables and dairy.
I think each each each of us is a little different, like the way that we digest food. Some people really struggle with dairy. Some people really struggle with, because maybe people aren't used to vegetables,
they might really even struggle with vegetables. And I think that you should, over a period of
time, I think that you should work your way into getting used to some of these foods.
I think it is good to have a little bit of diversity. I think the fiber is good.
I think most of the information, I think most of the science like checks out on that.
I know there's some people who are like, look, we don't need it.
Paul Saldino.
Yeah, Paul Saldino was saying that for a long time, but now he eats fiber because he's got fruit.
It just seems like, it just seems pretty clear to me that human beings are omnivores.
We're built and made and designed to eat multiple sources of food.
I just predominantly, most of my nutrition comes from meat. It's like a meat-based diet,
and then everything kind of goes around that. You know, I eat eggs, I eat various types of meat,
and then the amount of like fruit and vegetables is like just a tiny
tiny drop in the bucket calorically in comparison and even the weight of it and everything like I
have vegetables like once or twice a day I have fruit like once or twice a day I might eat beans
but it's like a couple times a month in terms of like potatoes or something like that or rice it's like a couple times a month in terms of like potatoes or something like that or rice.
It's like maybe just a couple times a week. And I'm not, again, I'm not advocating that people do
what I'm doing, but this is what's working well for me. This is what feels good for me.
And in addition to that, I don't think for most people, there's any reason to cut out those foods.
And I'd also say that if you are exercising quite a bit,
trying to build muscle mass and things like that, then also use your own discretion on how much
carbohydrate that you consume. I think the idea is to have really good workouts to help build some
strength, help build some muscle, but not eat so much that it leads to excess body
fat. And again, it's not the carbohydrates that would make you fat. The only thing that can make
you fat is overeating. However, when you bring carbohydrates into the mix, it usually makes
overeating easier. So just, you might want to be cautious with like mixing ground beef with like
80 or mixing 80, 20 ground beef with rice, because that's just an easy way.
If you're trying to bulk, then that's a great recipe for you.
Otherwise you're going to need to go with the much leaner types of meat.
Power Project Family Foot Health is something that we talked about all the
time on the podcast. And that's why we love Vivo Barefoot Shoes,
but we love them not just because they are flat, flexible and wide,
but also they don't look bad.
They look actually really, really good.
These are their new boots.
These are their Modus trainers for in the gym.
These are some of their casual shoes.
But when you look at a lot of barefoot shoes, some people get turned off because they don't want to wear those shoes outside.
And that's understandable.
That's very understandable.
But with Vivo, these shoes look so good, and they're so good for your feet that they're almost a no-brainer.
So, well, they are a no-brainer.
Andrew, how can they get some of these kicks?
Yes, you guys got to head over to VivoBarefoot.com slash Power Project, and you guys will receive 15% off your order.
Again, VivoBarefoot.com slash Power Project.
Links in the description as well as the podcast show notes. And then this new year, one thing to think about all the time is what are the foods that you end
up overeating and what are the foods that you find yourself binging on? Because you know what they
are. You 100% know what they are because you were doing it yesterday and a few days before that.
For me, it'd be like granola bars and cereal and cashews. Cashews are a motherfucker.
Oh, man.
bars and cereal and cashews cashews are a oh man especially the toffee butter cashews
you can get those at costco per bag they're like 9.95 they taste great um but those types of things man like you know number and everything and now you can instacart costco i feel yo i feel like a
powerful man the first time i instacarted costco i was just like a powerful man. The first time I Instacarted Costco,
I was just like,
I'm a fucking man.
You forage those foods.
When I'm hunting and provided for my tribe.
Because when you go to Costco,
you got to get the paper towel.
It's so much shit.
It's a whole trip.
But now the trip comes to you.
Anyway, what I was saying was just- Does it cost more?
I don't think so.
Nah, you got a membership.
Does your mind play tricks on you or are you pretty good with it?
Like, are you like, I kind of need these calories.
I'm trying to stay big.
I got jujitsu tomorrow.
I got lifting tomorrow.
Like, do you do a little bit of that?
You're like, ah, I kind of need the calories.
Do you lie to yourself a little bit that way or not really?
A little bit, but the thing is it's like-
A tiny bit. But the thing is, it's like a tiny bit.
Like, I'll be Sam.
Yo, but this is the thing.
Like, I don't binge on foods anymore.
And yeah, I do have sweet cashews in the house now.
But the thing is, I'm not'm crazy with my cashews, right?
I'll tell the truth guys
There's cashews all over the couch
Crying watching TV by himself just shoveling it in
He starts jumping around me like cashews are falling out of his pocket like oh shit He rushes to pick him up like you didn't see anything
I have found something that i can be honest with
i found something that i don't have to overdo and it is also pleasurable you see like that's the
thing the shit that you won't binge on that's what you got to be careful with because like there are
many things that i will like eat some and then eat a lot and then the calories are just disgustingly
high but there's certain things that i can eat a bit of and i feel good you got to figure what that
shit is you know what i mean and get the stuff that you're going to overeat out of the house so that you don't do
that and so that you have to if you because that trigger will hit you but now you have to go
somewhere to fucking go get it and that will make a big difference for you when you were bodybuilding
do you remember like the food that you were eating you know as the contest came closer and closer
um did it seem like tasteless to you or did you,
you liked the result so much that it didn't matter much or?
Yeah, that shit didn't taste good, bro.
Cause I wasn't, I was on low fats for like the last few months.
So I was at 40 grams of fat, 250 grams of protein and 250 grams of carbs,
40 grams of fat and 250 grams of protein.
And you can see the fat amount i was
eating really lean meats chicken breast and tilapia yeah chicken breast and tilapia rice
um i wasn't my food was it was it wasn't fun and then versus now like how are your foods like do
you do you enjoy every single meal or every once in a while you eat something that you don't like because it's lean and you're trying to do something specific?
No, I love the foods I eat now because my fats are higher, my carbs are moderate, and my protein is high.
So I eat a lot of meat like all of us do here.
But I eat salmon.
I eat red meat.
I'll barely eat chicken.
But if I do, I'll buy wings or I'll buy thighs.
I'll buy fattier. I haven't had chicken breast since 2015, literally, because there's no reason to. Because, again, I eat fattier stuff. I eat eggs. I love every single thing I eat. But the thing is, too, is I'm able to stay lean because this food is satiating and my carbs aren't crazy high. If I was someone who was eating, like we had Raymond Credo here,
the online coach, he said he's eating 450, 500 grams of carbs a day
at 180, 170 pounds.
So you got to imagine he's probably not eating crazy amounts of fat
or as much fat as I am, right?
So that's the thing.
If I was eating that many carbs, I couldn't eat like the type of meat I am now.
I would have to eat leaner meat and I wouldn't enjoy that.
And if you're going to get leaner meat and i wouldn't enjoy that and if you're gonna get leaner just i don't know let's say it's your coach or
somebody in jiu jitsu says hey man i think it'd be good if you were 230 or 235. yeah um would you cut
fats out or you just fast more i would fast a little bit more and i would lower my carbohydrates
and i'd keep my fats where they are because... You want your shit to still taste good. I want my stuff to taste good, but also as a man,
like, hormonally, I, like, you don't want your fats
to be way too low.
You can bring your fats down to a point,
but if you're eating 50 grams of fat or 60 grams of fat
at like 180, 190 pounds, you will feel that
over a certain period of time.
Like, you will feel kind of a little bit less.
I feel like get away with it for a day or two,
but that's about it.
Yeah.
How about like how hungry you are on fattier foods as opposed to like a high carb, low fat stuff?
Way less hungry.
That's another thing.
Like since we've been doing this for the past few years now, like that's the thing.
When I was eating much higher carbs, I would always be feeling hungry.
When I was eating much higher carbs, I would always be feeling hungry.
But I think through the habit of fasting and becoming okay with feeling hungry every now and then and understanding what real hunger is versus what your habits are and when you usually eat.
And the fats and protein just being more satiating.
I don't feel that drive to eat like I used to.
Don't get me wrong.
I can still eat a lot of food. But the drive to just eat and eat and eat isn't there.
And I think it's because I'm not eating a crazy amount of carbohydrates.
Yeah, having Piedmontese be a sponsor of this show is a huge advantage for us.
You know, you're getting lean meat.
We talk all the time about trying to hit that protein marker.
It can be pretty difficult for people.
It's World Carnivore Month, so they're giving away – not giving away, but they have a deal on a beef box.
So you can go check out their website.
You got a little more details on it, Andrew?
Yeah, no.
So, I mean, normally, like, the most that they'll be able to, like, give a percentage off on is 25%.
And then this – for Carnivore Month, these beef boxes, they're doing a percentage off on is 25 and then this uh for carnivore month these beef boxes are
doing 30 off so you get like a each box has this has different cuts and stuff but you're going to
get a variety of different kinds of piedmontese beef uh steaks i should say um so it's like really
like now is like an amazing time to take advantage of this because it's 30 off i don't think they've
ever done that before they haven't no they haven't that's crazy and this is one
thing that I kind of wish like it would have been it would have been cool to
like know about Piedmontese when I was prepping because yeah there are cuts of
meat that it's red meat but it's like you know what is it the flat iron that
has flat iron there's a top sirloin and I think both of them have like literally
zero grams of fat.
Not zero, but it's like, isn't it like six?
No, it's like four grams of fat for like,
I think, I want to say like 20-something
or maybe even 40-something grams of protein.
It's like insane, like the macros on it are unbelievable.
But that's the thing, if you're someone who is on a lower fat diet,
so you are having 50 or 60 grams of fat a day, right?
You can easily fit in red meat whereas
it's like if you get normal cuts like a butcher a costco don't get me wrong it's good to go to
your local butcher and get meat support local if you can but those cuts will always have higher fat
and it's like probably double at least oh easily easily and the thing is is like you can also like
i like cut fat ear cuts meat so from piedmontese i'll always get rib eyes and try it but i'll get the fattier cuts they have a good amount of fat but still not a crazy amount
of fat you know what i mean so it's you can do a lot with it yeah that and then the the bovet steak
is uh you know it's a really big size uh cut of of meat but it's got 100 grams of protein
it's like okay so it's just okay that must mean
it has a ton of calories like no because it only has 16 grams of fat for the entire thing
yeah like it's wild that the the skirt steak which i've just discovered recently
is like a huge sleeper steak i that thing is incredible i love that one i think you know we've
talked before about protein leveraging i advise everybody to check out the work from Ted Naiman.
He just has incredible information.
Gabrielle Lyon is also somebody that's talking about protein all the time.
There's plenty of places to look up.
Look up some stuff from Maria Emrick who posts recipes all the time.
She has cookbooks.
She's been on the show before.
So there's so many
resources of trying to figure out how to get more protein into your diet. And I think for some
people that are trying carnivore for the first time, I think like, just do, just try the diet,
you know, just if you think you need the black and white rules, then just do it, you know, just,
just follow it. And, and don't be like halfway in this gray area of like, not sure about what
you're doing.
You could purchase some protein from me.
You can go over to withinyourbrand.com.
I've given away a PDF and it explains my style of eating.
You could follow that.
But I think unless – Joe Sullivan said it on this podcast, until you know the rules, you can't really break them.
this podcast, until you know the rules, you can't really break them. So once you start to know the rules and once you have your footing and once you know what you're doing with your diet, then you
can start to break the rules. Then you can afford to eat a little bit of this, a little bit of that
here and there. But ideally, I think for most people, if you're trying to maintain body weight,
if you're trying to be lean, you are trying to eat a gram of protein per pound of body weight-ish.
You don't have to nail that exactly 100%, 100% of the time.
That's what you're trying to do while also minimizing the overall amount of energy that you're consuming in getting that protein.
Obviously, you need some energy.
So you don't want to, like as Nseema is saying, you don't want to just plummet your fat calories to the ground.
That would be a mistake hormonally for men and women. But you want to eat things that have a lot of protein in them.
And then from there, you want to decide how much energy do I really need? How much fats and
carbohydrates do I really need? What did I do for today? You know, did you run? Did you walk? Did
you, were you super active?
If you are pretty active, then you're going to need a good amount of fuel.
If you're not, then you're going to have to kind of pay attention to it.
But the good news is that when you eat more protein, it's going to pull back on your hunger a bunch.
Yeah, I wanted to pull this up because you said steak shakes.
So our boy Matthew Balcom, he is going full in on carnivore for carnivore month, but he's doing pretty much just steak shakes so our boy matthew balcom he is going full in on carnivore for carnivore month
but he's doing pretty much just steak shakes so he's making i well he's not eating food he's
just doing steak shakes all month ninja creamy ice creams with steak shake steak shakes themselves
and that's pretty much it and he did order like 30 of them yeah these are all his right here
but the thing is he was like i thought i would be able to do it as far as like take all the calories in.
He's like, I'm eating way too little.
Like I'm getting too full off of all this stuff.
So he's like, he needs to be able to figure out a way how to eat more Steak Shake.
Matthew Balcombe.
Food, brother.
Interesting experiment.
I'm curious how far he'll get into it.
Do you want to clarify that you didn't necessarily tell him to do this?
It's not medical advice.
Man, he's a wild man.
And he also put like an atomic bomb behind that.
That's kind of dark.
Yeah, so he has a cool recipe.
It's very, very basic.
So it's just steak shake, some psyllium husk, and what else?
And then just like some flavoring i think or something but
no he has some cool recipes i'm gonna try them for sure because they're very easy to follow
mark do you got to tell him the thing you told me about psyllium husk because like after you
said that actually i need to amazon that shit and put it in protein shakes yeah there's people that
can clarify this a lot better than me and we've had some really good people on the show talking
about fiber um but it's my understanding you know fiber something like psyllium husk, when you put
it in water, you can kind of see how it turns into like this like gelatinous blob.
There's other things that you could do that with that would turn gelatinous as well.
But it just kind of gives me the impression or the idea when I've heard people talk about
how fiber can help kind of clean out your
system because because of the substance because of like what it's made out of and because of the
texture of it it can help pull out toxins it can help pull out all kinds of things and that's
probably why we're in this argument all the time of like whether we need fiber or whether we don't
that's probably why we're in this argument all the time of like whether we need fiber or whether we don't there's some people that maybe because they eat a lot of processed foods maybe the fiber
is like more helpful to someone that has had more processed foods because maybe they need more of
that stuff pulled out of them and maybe for other people maybe they don't i'm not sure what the real
answer is but it does seem like fiber uh kind of can help clear you out and clean
you out almost like a liquid drano i was just thinking i was gonna say like drano yeah very
specific uh texture very specific volume right and fiber does add volume to your diet as well
um but i just i just think it's um i do know that there's some people that have bad reactions
eating certain foods. And I know some people have bad reactions of eating too much fiber and all
these different things. But for the most part, I think fiber plays a good role. I don't know about
needing like 30 grams a day. I think maybe the recommendations are a little on the high end.
But getting some fiber from some fruit, getting some fiber from some vegetables.
I love fermented stuff, cabbage, different types of sauerkraut, kimchi.
Oh, kimchi.
Costco has packed some kimchi.
It's like $9.95.
It's a crazy thing, man.
When you start getting more and more into this stuff, it can be really,
it can be really fun. I know it's kind of nerdy, but it's kind of fun. Like when you go to the grocery store and you see that they have, you know, certain fruit is in season. Like I, for me,
I get pumped for that. I'm like, this is kind of awesome. When the oranges aren't in season,
they're horrible. But when, when they're in season, they're amazing. Same thing with the
blueberries and so on. Um, and then also, when you start eating some stuff that's fermented,
there's certain aisles you'll go down, and you're like,
I didn't know they had all this stuff fermented.
Like, there's fermented jalapenos.
There's fermented cucumbers.
There's, like, fermented everything you can think of almost.
And maybe you'll buy something, and maybe you'll hate it.
But maybe you'll buy something, and maybe you'll love it.
So I find it to be, like, fun and exciting to get into like all this diet stuff.
And then you keep finding stuff that you like helps keep you on your plan. So if somebody is
going full in on carnivore, uh, what, what can they expect with their poop? Because a lot of
people talk about, they have carnerea and then there's other people that say like how are you going to poop
without any fiber in your experience
mark how has that been and especially
with working with other people that
maybe are coming from a diet that's a
little bit everywhere to all of a sudden
just meat and kind of getting some of
those those waves in and real quick
before you go in on on that poop and
carnerea going back to the
silly moose guys if you buy silly mask please don't overdo it like you you you like don't
overdo it don't just be putting fucking globs of silly mask in your shit you'll constipate you'll
get constipated it'll be uncomfortable it'll dry everything out you won't you won't like it
carnerea um i've seen both sides you know i've seen people have trouble going to the bathroom
I've also seen people just talk about
just blowing it out
disaster pants
Joe Rogan talked about it one time
he's like diarrhea just doesn't begin
to describe what's happening to me
it's like something has taken over
my soul he's like I don't know what's going on
I've had the same thing happen before and and it's happened for a few days.
And actually, I think in honor of World Carnivore Month, my bowels just happened to line up on January 2nd.
I'm just sitting on it.
I'm like, man, I think I got it.
And then all of a sudden, just blasting out.
I'm like, I'm not even on a carnivore diet.
But my asshole knows what time of year it is i guess
apparently wow i would say that people can expect what can you expect you can expect all kinds of
stuff with your digestion when you're participating in a diet that's that's different and this diet is
probably novel to you even if you have tried it in the past. It's probably like new again because maybe you haven't revisited it in a while.
Anytime that you try, anytime you start eating different food, you're going to have different results.
You know, for any one of us, if we were just to decide to go to Taco Bell or something like that out of nowhere, it's going to probably result in something crazy.
Meanwhile, maybe years ago ago we ate some of that
stuff here and there and that we never even noticed anything didn't bother us so anytime
you bring in something new you're going to notice certain things happening what i would say is
just keep trying to research it you know keep looking up stuff from dr sean baker check out
some stuff from paul saladino um read up on it read some books listen to some podcasts
anthony chuffy yep and hopefully you'll get some answers you know hopefully you'll be able to try
to figure out what works for you worked for me and helping stabilize my stomach was just to eat a
little bit of some other stuff it was pretty simple to say other stuff do you mean other meat
or do you mean like some vegetables and shit yeah Yeah, vegetables and fruit and stuff and things like that.
And even like, even something like a Quest bar, which I know like, oh, now we're getting
into like sacrilegious, like you, you're off the team.
But shit, man, I think any, anything that gets you away from having your stomach be
that upset is, is probably a positive in that particular situation
and just remember like yeah quest bars are processed foods but at the end of the day if
you can have majority of foods be whole real foods your meats your vegetables fruits like you you
will feel better you'll feel better because a majority of us have come from a place of eating
a lot of processed foods and some real foods and we're like oh but we're eating healthy like uh minute if you mitigate the amount of processed food you eat
that'll make a big difference for you and uh i don't have any like proof of this at all but
andrew and i've talked about this before like i think a little bit of bread goes a long way oh
yeah i know people are like celebrating in the streets. We can have bread. But I think that even if you just think about like if you make a hamburger and you put a hamburger on a plate by itself and you leave it there for a couple of minutes, there's just like grease and oil everywhere, right?
Like the burger had a little disaster of its own.
When you put it on a bun, it's like a little diaper for it.
When you put it on a bun, it's like a little diaper for it.
So I think it helps soak up all that oil and helps maybe distribute it in a slightly different way.
I have no evidence of this.
I hate that we don't have evidence of it.
And I don't have any special letters in front of my name or behind.
I don't even know where the letters are supposed to go.
Run the study, Stanford.
Run the study.
But one piece of toast with some eggs can really help, right, Andrew?
Yeah, it helps tremendously.
But again, because it is World Carnivore Month, if somebody is like, no, Mark, I want to go all in on carnivore, how long do you think they should really – to experience carnivore diet, the carnivore diet, before they start introducing like, man, maybe I should have that one piece of bread or maybe I should have some of that fruit.
Again, to experience what an actual carnivore diet is, how long do you think that that takes?
I've seen some people say it like subsides in like two or three days.
But that's still kind of like a long time. I don't know.
I shat for three weeks yeah
yeah i've heard some people say that too yeah and uh for some people even when they bring in like a
little bit of fruit it's like not enough they need to like eat more you know and they meet so maybe
like the person might need a little bit of fruit maybe they need a little bit of dairy like maybe
they need some uh and then also there's so many other things that can go into this but you could
just be eating like a tremendous into this but you could just be
eating like a tremendous amount of fat you could also be eating a tremendous amount of protein
and your body just probably not used to that so if someone goes from having like 100 grams of
protein to 200 out of nowhere that's a pretty big difference like you'll feel that in your gut
and also if you go from you know typically um i don't know having 70 or 80 grams of fat a day and now you have 180 grams of fat a day, that's going to register.
Your body's going to know.
Or all of a sudden in one sitting you had a steak and it had 60 grams of fat in it and you're not used to that.
You're going to shit your pants, I think.
Now, Andrew, I know you said you had it for 15 days, but we need to give people that are new context you are like a legendary shitter this is true so no actually yeah i uh yeah no i i've i've
i've been having gut issues for a a quite some a very long time i try to be nice i said legendary
shitter like well no there i do have some records for sure i have have a world title. I'm in the Hall of Fame for sure.
But no, I ate crap all the way up until my late 20s basically.
And so when I switched over to eating whole foods or things that we would consider good, I had a hard time with it.
And I still would have diarrhea and doctors said I had IBS and all this stuff.
And they wanted to put me on um like uh
anxiety medicine and shit like that i was like well there's depression pills or something like
that i was like no like i i just i i'm shitting everywhere like oh it's because you're you get
nervous and so this will help with that and i'm cool off of that um so anyways like an improper
diet switching over to a carnivore diet, it was the first time I had followed anything so strict that it cut all the garbage out.
And I had straight carnivore, so a meat-based diet or meat-only diet, I should say.
And yeah, I had like – it was crazy.
Like my – I could not hold it in.
Like it was just like – no matter how tight i could
pucker that thing it just would still fall through and i'm like oh my gosh and so i had to i had to
throw in the the dirty towel and and uh and call it because i i you know paul saladino was like no
just keep going keep going and i'm like i don't know man it's it's pretty rough like it's already going on three weeks like I don't feel healthy anymore like this I'm fading
into like in the abyss because I'm just gonna blow away and so I just I had to
call it there but I will say the carnivore diet was the first time
following a structured diet or a strict diet like that where I noticed whoa this
is actually helping my back you know this is making
me feel better and so like that's really when I was like wow like I thought I was taking my diet
serious I thought it was important and now I'm like oh my gosh like I was I underestimated it
so much were you eating a lot of carbs before that yeah absolutely okay yeah no 100% like
I would I think I want to say that I had tried like the vertical diet right before that, but it was like three-quarters rice and a little bit of meat.
Like I was still trying to figure things out.
So that's – like I said, when we had Sean Baker here, that's when I like really grabbed it by the horns and took off with the carnivore diet.
Yeah, like I said earlier, I don't think anyone – I think that sometimes I think people, because of maybe what's promoted, they think they're going to get like
extra benefit from like getting rid of all carbohydrates and they're going to get extra
benefit from going all carnivore. Now they could potentially, if you do have, you know, some,
if you do have a food that you're allergic to or something like that, but from like an energy
standpoint, you're not like, it's just most likely it's not going to happen. Um, even some people I know like endurance runners and
some people I know that do like keto style stuff, they still use carbs. They use carbs a little bit
more like a supplement rather than a food. They'll use carbs to their advantage, you know, post
workout or sometimes pre-run kind of depending by someone like Zach Bitter, uh, does that quite
often. And what they've found out,
what some of these people have found out is like, you just perform a little bit better with a little
bit of carbs. So I think it's important that we don't allow our beliefs to kind of block us from
things that could probably obviously lead to us being a little bit better. And in this case,
could lead us to not having to go to the bathroom so much.
Like, I think, you know, I mentioned on this show before, you want to do the things you
love, but you don't want to do them so much that you do them to your own detriment.
In this case, like you're harming yourself, like you're making yourself sick.
I know it could sometimes it could be temporarily, but you do have to understand that no one
seems to actually truly know why this happens.
It's just all speculation.
People are like, oh, the water shifts from your bowels.
It goes from here to there because now you don't have any fiber.
Some people are like they blame it on the people, and they're like, oh, well, you ate processed junk all the time, so now it's your body flushing all that out.
I think that's nonsense.
I think the truth is is that it's just a huge change for a lot of people.
And let's give people some grace.
Let's give people a little bit of a break.
We want to play the long game.
That's the main thing to know is like, okay, we're trying something for January.
We're trying something for 30 days or 31 days.
That's cool.
Like that's great.
But what about February?
What about March?
Let's not have this discussion next year.
When the holidays roll around, you say, you know what?
I'm in pretty good shape.
I'm pretty active.
I'm going to eat, you know, kind of whatever I want on Thanksgiving.
I'm going to eat whatever I want.
I got more control.
I understand myself better.
I'm going to go for a couple walks.
I'm going to fast. I'm going to do cardio until I throw up. No, I'm, I, you know, I'm going to go for a couple of walks. I'm going to, I'm going to fast,
you know, I'm going to do cardio until I throw up. No, I'm just kidding.
Nah, but like when it comes to the carbs, man, the main reason I eat carbs is just to
help my resistance training workouts. Because if I have really minimal carbs, I'll be,
I'll feel fine at jujitsu. Did you know that he lifted Andrew?
Uh, when? Uh, every now and then I like to lift like that lift you were doing in
the gym pretty cool like a searcher deadlift yeah searcher deadlifts man
yeah that's crazy dude I wouldn't have ever seen that I would be able to do it
from like a rack but I wouldn't be able to do it from the ground like that I was
thinking market could you you think if you did it from a rack to unrack and
then allow it to pull you all the way down do you think you can get to the floor i could but i'd probably hurt myself okay yeah should i try it i don't think so i think
atlas power shrugged i think he does heavy ones i'm not sure i know he does uh heavy jeffersons
and he he probably does heavy zurcher deadlifts but it's it's a i think it's a great lift from
the bottom position and like you're kind of crumpled and that's kind of where you are in
jujitsu and then the double under kind of position,
I think is great. So...
It's a cool movement.
I'm progressing it slowly.
But, um, the carbohydrates are really to help fuel
my resistance training sessions.
Because I notice the difference.
I notice the difference in the amount of pump I get.
I notice the difference in like,
how long I feel like I have a good oomph in my workout.
It's like if I have no carbs in my system,
like I feel drained faster when lifting. oomph in my workout. It's like if I have no carbs in my system, like I
feel drained faster when lifting. Not during jujitsu. I can go for a while. I don't feel that
way. Just to clarify, you're not talking necessarily about carbs like right before you train because a
lot of times you train faster, right? Yeah, I'm talking about like carbs within the 24-hour period.
I don't need to have carbs right before I train. It's just like, did I have some carbs the night
before? That's going to help you with my resistance training session. I don't need to have carbs right before I train. It's just like, did I have some carbs the night before? That's going to help you with my resistance training session. I don't need
to eat right before I train. So that's the main reason. If I wasn't doing that, I wouldn't have
as many carbs. And again, the carbs I have, I'm 250 pounds. It's less than 200 grams a day,
but they go a long way. You know what I mean? So that's one thing. And the second thing I
wanted to mention was when you guys were talking about digestion, as you guys are doing World Carnivore Month, put everything in your favor to have solid digestion of your food.
So when we had Luke Hawks on, he talked about eating really fast because he didn't have much food.
So he'd have these gut issues and he'd have massive blowouts.
But one thing that helps your digestion is chewing your food and eating slowly, which honestly, I don't like. I'd like to just scarf
down my food. I can eat really fast and I enjoy eating fast, but I slow down so that my digestion
of my food is better and so that I don't end up eating as much. And walk after you eat. Try to
see. You've talked about 10-minute walks for a long time. That'll be also something that helps
with your digestion of this food, helps just get things going so that you can digest this
food better. I notice and other people notice that your digestion is better. If you can eat slower,
chew your food, make it mush in your mouth before you swallow, and then take a 10-minute walk after,
those things will go a long way. At this point, nasal breathing while you're asleep is no longer
something that just us bros do.
But people are realizing that it can make a big difference in your sleep quality, your recovery, and all aspects of sleep.
That's why hostage tape is so important because many people have their mouths drop open while they're asleep.
They're snoring.
And that really affects the quality of their sleep.
And that's why many wake up groggy and not feeling extremely rested. Hostage tape will allow you to tape your mouth shut, even if you have a beard.
Us bearded folks can put the tape on and can be confident enough that when you wake up in the
morning, the tape will still be on your mouth, which will help you breathe through your nose.
And they also have nose strips if you're someone who struggles breathing through the nose. Those
nose strips will help you open up your airway and breathe a little bit easier while you're asleep. How can they get their hands on some hostage tape? Yeah, you guys
can head over to hostage tape.com slash power project where you guys can receive mouth tape
and no strips for an entire year for less than a dollar a night. Again, hostage tape.com slash
power project links down in the description as well as the podcast show notes in the in the past.
And Seema, you have said that like there's certain nuts, certain days, but just you find yourself on days where you won't even eat carbs, period.
Again, kind of thinking about the carnivore month of things.
How did how do you keep things like fun?
How do you keep things like fun, I'll say, with your food?
Because if somebody's thinking like, damn, I can't have rice with my meat or I can't have like the fun stuff on the side with my main thing of meat.
Damn, how am I going to get through this?
So as somebody who will occasionally not eat carbs at all, how do you still look forward to that meal?
I have fun meats, bro.
Like, you know, pita on teas they have for good life.
They have sausage. They have different like, you know pete on t's they have for good life they have sausage they have different like you know their chorizo sausage and then they have that maple bacon
that's amazing yeah you lit up because it will make your whole house smell like a restaurant
it's so good yeah i forgot about that yeah good call yeah they have all kinds of stuff they have like a
steak that's uh bacon too i don't know if you guys ever had that
that's amazing yeah they got all kinds of stuff you're on the vip list that's why
i have a bacon steak so what do you mean is it like is it it's uh it's like it's like bacon
from a cow basically it's different it's different. It's not better.
It's amazing.
It's delicious.
So you should try it.
I feel like you're backpedaling.
It's not necessarily better than bacon because you can't really.
How do you get better than bacon?
It's kind of hard.
So you're just saying you just have different types of cuts and that sort of thing?
I don't have different types of cuts.
And the thing is I know there are some people who are super against sauces and stuff.
But I'll use like – there's like different sriracha type hot sauces that I like.
I like chili stuff.
So like the thing is like when I make my food and I use whatever sauce, like it will taste good.
It's not excessive.
But I – like it's something I enjoy.
I know some people do go overboard with the calories that they get from the sauces that they eat, which is something that you do want to be careful of if you're one of those people.
But I mean a little goes a fucking long way.
You know what I mean?
A little goes a very long way.
And on the days I don't eat carbs, again, the days I don't eat carbs, I can literally feel I don't need them.
I don't eat carbs, I can literally feel I don't need them. Like when you train for a while and then you have certain days where you don't eat carbs and you have certain days when you do,
you can kind of tell like, I'm, I'm full today. Like I, I, I'm, I have enough glycogen in my
system today. You can literally, I feel fuller on those days. And then there are days where I'm
like, Ooh, like I feel a little bit bit depleted i need to eat some extra carbs today
right so that's it that's kind of how i go about it but it's more of an intuitive thing it's wild
it's also going to be kind of exciting like if the day before maybe you didn't eat that much and
maybe you trained pretty hard you kind of wake up the next morning like i'm gonna kind of get after
it today food wise oh yeah and it feels amazing because your body is literally depleted i'll do
the same thing.
I'll go sometimes without carbs.
I sometimes just forget about them, honestly, which probably sounds weird to some people.
But I just – I'm trying to focus in on eating meat and eating eggs and stuff like that.
And so then it gets to be 5 or 6 o'clock at night, and I'm like, I should at least have some berries.
I'm supposed to run tomorrow.
I ran today.
I lifted.
I'm like, somewhere along the line it's going to catch up to me, and I'm not going I should at least have some berries. Like I'm supposed to run tomorrow. I ran today. I lifted. I'm like somewhere along the line is going to catch up to me and I'm not going to feel great.
And I like to try to be ahead.
So it's kind of a fat guy move probably to think that I need the calories, that I need this for the next thing or whatever.
But it also ensures me that I don't get behind.
Because if you get behind and you start to feel tired, you start to feel fatigued, you cut back on your calories too much, then it's just going to be harder and harder to stay on your diet.
Things I do, like, because I don't change up the cuts that much and I don't eat as much of the fatty foods that he's eating at the moment because I'm still on this perpetual fucking cut that I've been on for 10 years.
219 pounds this morning.
Oh, damn.
Wow.
So still coming down.
I'd like to get to around 210,
and then hopefully I can kind of settle around there
and figure some shit out from there.
But I use a lot of, like, spices,
and I use a lot of sauces, too.
We have, like, a bunch of different G. Hughes stuff at the house.
We got some of the stuff from uh mark sisson
primal kitchen um but gee hughes i mean they have like a chili um a thai chili sauce that's amazing
they have honey mustard that dude the honey mustard it's like you know and yeah you do need
to read the label like it's amazing how they get away with saying like per tablespoon. Right.
Because you just tip the bottle upside down pretty much.
But also, you know, we sell steak shakers.
We have, we just have straight pink Himalayan sea salt,
but we have Montreal.
We also have taco.
We have Italian seasoning.
Those are all from my brand within you.
You can check all those out.
They all have liver, kidney, heart, spleen, and pancreas in them.
So you're getting some extra nutrients in there. I love the taco one.
I put it on meat like almost all the time. Hardcore Carnivore. We had Jess on the show,
the owner, the CEO of Hardcore Carnivore. Those products have other things in them. Obviously, it's not – they're not like necessarily a carnivore product, but it's put on your meat basically and it makes your meat taste amazing.
And I'm in the same boat with Nseem.
I agree.
Like fuck it, man.
Like you're not lifting and exercising and doing jujitsu and running and doing all these things just so you have to like measure out every little tiny thing man like understand like sometimes you have particular goals and sometimes you do have to
kind of like lay the law down to yourself and tell yourself like man i'm i'm gonna i'm gonna be less
fat and you got to kind of get into this like mode we totally get it but your problem, there's not anybody I can think of that their problem is necessarily in sauces and their problem is in seasonings.
Your problem is in you're probably restricting yourself too much here and there and then you end up binging.
You probably keep repeating that process over and over again.
And any time you try to go on a diet, you probably restrict your calories way too much. And if you restrict your calories way too much over time, you'll probably lose muscle
mass and you'll probably just keep repeating the cycle and you end up this kind of yo-yo
dieting type of thing. One more thing too, you know, Andrew, you were mentioning like,
I really want to stay on the diet, but I am shitting my pants. What do I do? I would say
maybe try a fiber
supplement. And Seema was saying, maybe try some psyllium husk. Try from Joel Green. He's got a
product called Young Gut, and it has a different type of fiber in it. It's a prebiotic fiber.
I think many people might find that it works really... I just think Joel's one of the most
brilliant people in the industry. If you haven't heard of him, he's got a book called The Immunity Code.
He also has a book out coming soon that's for pre-sale that's called The Way.
And he's just a brilliant mind.
He's got some other products.
But Young Gut I think is a product I've used before.
I like it.
So I think it might be beneficial.
It might be helpful for people that have disaster pants during carnivore month.
And what's amazing about Young Gut and Joel Green, he will give you a protocol on taking it.
It like starts out with like half a scoop and then maybe a full scoop.
But then once you are kind of like where you need to be, you can taper it down and then even stop.
And he will admit like, yeah, this isn't great for business, but just need something to work um but you've used young gut yeah absolutely yeah and it's the thing where i'm like oh yeah i
still have that i forgot because i followed the protocol and i just i stopped and i can still
keep doing it to get the benefits it's just kind of like almost creatine at this point where it's
like oh i should probably still take that um you guys were talking about like sauces and not
sweating the small stuff something like pork rinds is still technically carnivore oh yeah
should people try to avoid some of these carnivore snacks i'm not saying carnivore snacks that brand
that is a good brand also but some of these things where it's like oh i know that pork rinds yeah
that's carnivore thanks for the reminder but it's crunchy it's got you know sometimes things where it's like, oh, I know that pork rinds. Yeah, that's carnivore. Thanks for the reminder.
But it's crunchy.
It's got, you know, sometimes it has it's fried with certain oils or whatever it may be.
So it's something like that.
Is that OK?
Like, you know, what are your guys' opinion on that stuff?
Porking good has new flavors.
That's on Amazon right now.
They are absolutely amazing.
I know a pork rind that has a birthday cake in the name.
You're like, nah, there's no way.
No fucking way.
Like, no fucking way.
It is incredible.
They have an apple cinnamon.
It's amazing.
They're probably the best products they've ever made.
I mean, they make some really good products.
They have like a white cheddar.
I see nacho cheddar.
They have salt and vinegar. vinegar dude that one's crazy they also have a salt and vinegar like spice like a
in a little shaker thing and i throw that on eggs sometimes it's unbelievable it's so good
but yeah porking good spicy cajun i'm adding that to the cart yeah let's go yeah order you know
order up all that shit and um price wisewise, I think it's fairly priced.
I mean, it's very light.
It's like popcorn a little bit.
But it's just a great product.
Like, how do you get through this time?
How do you get through these, you know,
through World Carnivore Month?
You cheat is how you do it.
Apple cinnamon, that probably tastes like cinnamon twist
from Taco Bell.
Oh, yeah.
What would you put the apple cinnamon one on top of?
Oh, that one.
That one's the best one, the butterscotch.
It just tastes like...
You don't need to put it on top of anything.
You just eat it.
I like to put the porking good stuff on wings.
I like to put it on wings and stick it in the air fryer.
Yeah, you could do that.
They also sell like...
Churros.
They also sell like... Churros. They also sell like breadcrumbs, too.
They sell pork rind, breadcrumb-type things.
What you can do is you can dip these suckers in some cottage cheese that you take Amplify from hard—
This is some really big tips you got going on here.
Amplify from heart.
This is some really big tips you got going on here.
From hardcore carnivore, you take the Amplify one, the orange one, you dump some of that bitch in some cottage cheese and you dip some pork rinds in there and you will be delighted.
It's amazing.
It is absolutely amazing.
I swear Amazon's fucking with me because I have been adding things in the cart to try
to get same day delivery and it keeps increasing the amount I have been adding things in the cart to try to get same-day delivery and it keeps like
Increasing the amount that I need. I'm just like I'm at 84 69 bitch. What else do I need to get same-day delivery?
Jesus Christ, I got multiple things at G Hughes and porking good
I didn't know G Hughes has so many other flavors now that fucking sugar-free yum-yum sauce. They got honey mustard
They got polysium sauce. They got honey mustard. They got poly yum-yum sauce.
That one has a lot of calories in it.
I don't give a fuck.
He has like a clucking sauce, too.
He gained 12 pounds.
Yeah, they have a sugar-free sauce
that is similar to what they have at Chick-fil-A.
It's like the Chick-fil-A sauce,
but it's called like clucking sauce.
It has a lot of calories, but there's zero sugar. So it's like, yeah,fil-a sauce but it's called like clucking sauce it has a lot of
calories but there's zero sugar so it's like yeah add that and that shit will be here today and
you're an investor in the company i would why am i just hearing about this now because it's one of
those things where it's like oh you know like like the sweet chili sauce you can dump that whole
bottle and still get away with probably like 100 calories. Kluckin sauce is like 100 calories per little tablespoon.
Oh, really?
Oh, damn.
Okay.
There's a lot.
That's why.
Famous Kluckin dipping sauce.
While we're on the topic of some of this stuff, you got Carnivore Crisps are absolutely amazing.
If you go to that website, you can use my code Mark Bell.
If you go on the Pork and Goods site, there's a code for me on there too for Mark Bell.
When it comes to jerky and like biltong, Brooklyn Biltong is absolutely incredible.
It's amazing.
They have different flavors.
They got like a lemon pepper.
They got like a spicy something or other.
I forget what that one's called.
They have a naked one for those of you that don't want like a lot of stuff on there um and then how is this bill tong compared to other
bill tong you've had because like you know south africans love to say our bill tong is better than
jerky and i've had some bill tong where i'm just like this is trash and i i just want to try good
bill tong man so you you dig broken i like it a lot yeah it's very good
i don't know i'm gonna have to check that and i forget what the jerky is i need to look on my phone i get some amazing beef jerky too let me see why am i just hearing about this now too man
i know we're you up both of you guys just hiding the good stuff from me brown belt there's
only one more belt to go you're already taken over over. Yeah. So we got to try to just. We need something.
Yeah.
Brooklyn Bill Tong.
Let's see.
Jerky.
Jerky, jerky.
You know what's funny, though?
In that fucking You Are What You Eat documentary at the end when they started talking about
Beyond Meat and like fake foods, they had these students that made.
There's this girl that was actually pretty impressive.
She made ham and different types of meat-free ham and stuff.
And you could see it being cut.
And you're like, wow, that actually looks like meat.
I'm actually curious what it tastes like.
But these other students, they made an egg with a fake yolk.
Dude, I saw that.
You saw that?
I saw that part at least.
Sorry, maybe I saw something else. else but you probably saw the right thing what i saw is that somebody they
got just like a regular store-bought egg and they started like chipping away at it to where they can
like basically bring it back to life and they birthed the fucking chicken or chick out of like
a store-bought egg it was the weirdest shit i've ever seen. I'm like, oh, I didn't know that that was possible.
Yeah, it's crazy.
Well, more nutrients than shit.
Part of that live-ass chicken.
I sent you a link to a site called People's Choice Jerky.
This stuff's pretty expensive.
The price is going up and down on this thing here and there,
but it's fucking good.
If you can afford it, buy it.
It's good stuff.
32 bucks on subscribe and save.
What makes this jerky good?
It's just amazing.
Wait, is this jerky or biltong?
That looks like biltong.
No, it's jerky, and it's pretty big.
A lot of times, it's pretty big sheets of it.
It's really good, and there's no sugar.
There's no crap in there.
All right, I'm going to grab a bag. That's a pretty big bag it's a it is a big bag yeah i'm gonna grab a bag
and see what but anytime i post anything and everyone's like well you're rich it's different
it must be nice it must be nice to not eat carbs all day yeah people will latch on to oh it'll get
here from two to six pm let's go yeah let me know what you think yes i will get i like i like both of them i like the spicy i like
the regular one they're both really good also i want to mention guys i think that um because one
thing i notice uh being african uh an american as you mentioned, I'm American, Mark. But Africans love heat.
My mom, for example, she bought this ghost pepper chili thing from Trader Joe's.
But she didn't just buy one.
She emptied out the rack and she bought like 40.
So I go to her house in her pantry.
She'll give it to friends and give them one ghost pepper each.
And she'll only give me one at a time.
She won't give me a few
because she empties out Trader Joe's.
But we love spice.
And the thing is,
is I know people are like,
oh, I hate spicy food, blah, blah, blah.
But you notice you sweat when you eat spicy food.
You think that sweat's just magical sweat?
You think you're not burning some extra calories
because the back of your head's getting wet? Like when I eat eat spicy food the first thing that gets warm is the back of my head
and i have to take off my hat like we were in texas you gotta you guys look good dying we had
a burger that had some peppers on it yeah that shit was spicy that's right but i think i think
partially what that does is i don't think you eat as much like i i think you yeah like you you'll
eat it's spicy it's good but i don't
think you're going to eat as much food and you're sweating while you're eating so at this
point i enjoy spicy food since i've been eating it since i was a kid but i think if you can get
yourself to like you know add some pepper add some spice to your food make it a little bit a little
bit tangy i think that can go a long way i think you supposedly eat a little bit less too when you
have fermented foods so when you have too when you have fermented foods.
So when you have protein, when you have spicy food, when you have fermented foods,
they're all things that can help control your appetite at least a little bit.
Yeah, yeah.
And I know certain people like our boy Owen here.
He's like, I'll never eat spicy food.
He just hates it.
But try it out.
It's still – I mean it's relative.
Yeah, spicy for you, right? Yeah, so he can have a i don't know i don't red hot sauce a splash of red hot sauce some nice spicy hot just black black pepper let me tell you
real quick the other the other day it was because of a few a few of our friends are in town so let's
like let's all get uh let's all get dinner and um brian who's uh he came to i'm
really all right man you you pick the spot he's like mother is this place called mother and all
of us assumed that it was going to be like a soul food spot that's what we all assumed i get there
and one of my boys eric is there i see him just like just sitting there eating brussels sprouts
i'm like wait what the fuck like what i look at the menu i first i look around
i see a girl with purple hair yep it's over i see a bunch of like just white people around me
how many men all look kind of alternative and i'm just like did it kind of smell funny this is this
doesn't seem like soul food where are the black people i sit down it's vegan we're like bro why
would you suggest we all thought this was going to be soul food and he was
like ah sorry guys i thought it'd be good to try i got the spiciest thing on the menu they're like
three fires spice i ate it it wasn't a fucking thing no spice no heat exactly so spice is relative
spice is relative that sucks oh all right so uh back to carnivore stuff uh not that vegan restaurant
that we all will definitely avoid sorry um how about like the energy levels and then also like
muscle retention or muscle gain because we are eating a lot of protein but we have discussed
many times like like well carbs are going to help fuel your workouts or fuel recovery or whatever
it may be and we're cutting all those out.
So what now?
I think if you're getting your calories in and you – if you're somebody that has had trouble and you've struggled with diet for a long time and then now you're on carnivore, you're going to feel a massive shift and you're probably not going to feel great.
It's going to feel the same as if we said, hey, why don't you jog around the block?
It's not going to feel great. It's going to feel the same as if we said, hey, why don't you jog around the block? It's not going to feel great. You're not used to it. If you are like a little more fit and you're a little bit more used to dieting, the carnivore diet for even just
a handful of days is probably going to feel really good. And you're probably going to feel like your
energy's up. You probably will feel quite a bit of cool things. I would say that is like a honeymoon
thing and it might be short
lived. It might last eight days, 10 days, something like that. And then usually at that point is when
you would like probably bring in some fruit or something like that. But that's, that's been some
of my experience with it. And even in communicating with other people, um, that's been some of the
feedback I've gotten. Yeah. Don't forget, you know, you can't forget about electrolytes.
You know, the importance of electrolytes.
We talk about that quite a bit on the show.
But when you're doing that diet, you know,
we're trying to think of ways,
how do we kind of skirt around this diet?
Because it is limiting.
Maybe we shouldn't skirt around it is my point.
Like maybe it's just throwing some fruit and be okay.
But is that carnivore?
Yeah. We're not carnivore? Yeah.
We're not part of this thing anymore.
You're going to need some electrolytes.
So salt some of your food.
You don't have to salt the shit out of it, but salt some of your food and have an electrolyte packet here and there.
I did want to mention again, I think this is the third time I brought it up on this episode, but the documentary, You Are What You Eat, it's a good documentary on Netflix.
It does have a very plant-based agenda.
So be mindful if you watch it, which I think you guys should, be mindful that they skew a lot of things.
But they have 21 sets of twins.
They put one pair of twins on an omnivorous diet.
Not pair.
They put one of the twins on an omnivorous diet.
They put one of the twins on a plant-based diet.
And they measure quite a few things.
But every single pair of twins,
they also had them on a resistance training routine.
They had trainers for them.
Every single one of the twins that was on the omnivorous diet,
which was still a healthy omnivorous diet,
gained more muscle than the twin
that was on the plant-based diet, right?
So there's something to think about there.
It's like, if you're eating more whole foods that are meat and you're working and you're exercising, you will have a better chance to gain more lean body mass.
But when you do watch that doc, one thing I was telling Mark is that they had 21 sets of twins, but they really zoned in and filmed, I think, five pairs.
With all the twins, they always chose the twin
that was in worse shape to put on the omnivorous diet,
and they always chose the better-in-shape twin
to put on the vegan diet to start off.
So there are these two ladies.
They're South African.
One was 20 pounds heavier than the other twin,
and the heavier twin had a little bit more body fat.
Well, they put the lighter twin on the vegan diet to start and they put the heavier twin on the omnivorous diet to start.
So I'm just saying like it's a good doc, but be mindful of the agenda behind it.
I think it is good to eat more vegetables though.
But yeah, you will gain more muscle if you eat more meat.
Yeah, and I also think, again, there's going to be some people that really just want
to stick to the plan. And those of you that do, then do it, you know, do it to a T and follow
your favorite influencers version of the carnivore diet. But I just think it makes sense to have a
little bit of extra stuff in there. Like when it comes to strength training, when it comes to
hypertrophy, it just seems to make some sense
to have a little bit of carbohydrate in there because it does help with pumps.
Part of hypertrophy is getting yourself to that point in a workout. Like I think you can become
like almost desensitized to it. Like you won't have the same feel, like you'll go and you'll
work out, but you're not feeling that exhaustion point like you might feel when you have carbohydrates in you.
I'm not sure if you're contracting better or really where it's coming from.
But I'm just imagining the muscles are probably robbed of like they probably don't have magnesium and salt and everything packed into them the way they need to because carbohydrates help deliver that into your muscle cells.
And glycogen specifically yeah from from what i understand and i i'm probably a little
off on some of that but that's like my bro science version of it it just it feels that way and so
like if it's going to assist your workouts and it's not going to lead to you gaining body fat
because one of the things we want to do aside from the whole body fat thing,
which everyone's so obsessed with, one of the goals is to gain muscle mass. And we have to
just keep hammering that over and over again. I don't care what diet you go on. You can do whatever
style diet you want, but I'd really hate to see you lose muscle mass. Like we can't, we can't
afford that. Are you going to lose muscle mass if you lose 30 pounds or 50 pounds?
Yes.
Like you're going to lose muscle mass no matter what.
It's probably unavoidable.
You'll probably be on the most optimal diet and you can probably be on some steroids and it probably won't matter.
You'll probably still lose some muscle mass.
It's just sort of part of the process.
But let's minimize that as much as we can.
So I think it's important that we have workouts that are like rigorous.
You want workouts that are challenging rigorous you want workouts that are
challenging you want workouts that are difficult you don't want all your workouts to be flat that's
going to be unmotivating in of itself and it'll make your diet even feel more miserable because
you're not performing in the gym the way that you want to yeah Mark can you explain a little bit of
like how you came to that conclusion I know for us it's it's pretty obvious but you know if you
go back a couple years ago when it was world carnivore month you were like no this is the
way like i'm probably going to do this forever you had that sort of like i'll say uh mindset
or whatever and then fast forward to now you're like no eat some fucking fruit you idiot um and
and i want to know because like we tend to get on these sides, right?
Like, no, I'm full carnivore and this is what I'm going to do.
I'm not going to waver from that, but I think it's okay if you end up moving around a little bit to find what works best for you.
And so, again, you asked somebody who was on record as saying, I'm going to go all in on carnivore.
And then to today where you're like, I think it's actually more beneficial if you just mix in a couple of things.
How did you come to that conclusion?
Well, initially I wanted just to try it.
I wanted to give it a shot.
So how do you know if something's going to work?
The only way to know is to actually do it and not do some weird version of it.
So let me follow this 99.9%.
I think I might have had cheese here and there or something like that, which is still an animal product.
But I was trying to literally just do meat.
And the first year that I did it, I kind of failed.
I did it for a little while, and then I just – I think I mentioned before on the show, I kind of got sad because I was just eating the same thing over and over again.
like just eating the same thing over and over again.
And I like didn't understand too, I guess I kind of knew,
but I didn't really understand.
I really need to switch the meat up a lot if I was only going to eat meat.
And I was kind of stuck on like eating like ground beef and steak over and over again.
And I didn't think about like pork and chicken and fish and like just all
these other options.
And so once I did that and once I started going to like restaurants and
stuff,
it actually got easier
because sometimes having somebody else prepare your food
is kind of nice.
So when I initially started the carnivore diet,
listening to Sean Baker and Paul Saladino
and some of those guys,
they were very meticulous about like,
hey, let's try this.
Not so much Sean,
but more Paul actually was like, no, let's try it
like, you know, full on. Sean was like, you're going to come to your own conclusions your own
way. He's the one that kind of said that initially off the bat. And so I, like I said before, I did
it for a hundred days and in doing it in over the course of a hundred days, you have to keep in mind, like, I wasn't bodybuilding.
I wasn't powerlifting.
I wasn't running.
So what's the big deal if, like, my workout isn't that great?
You know what I mean?
You weren't lifting, right?
Yeah, I was lifting.
Yeah.
Yeah, but I just wasn't, like, I wasn't in anything.
I wasn't really in a sport.
Okay.
I wasn't, I mean, I haven't competed in running in like a little bit
but um i wasn't active in anything at that time and so you know what i mean like what's the
difference if the workout's not amazing right the workouts they felt they felt okay at the time they
felt pretty good um but i've always known that like with a little bit of carbohydrate it'll be
a little bit better and so um even going back to the war on carbs before I ever heard anything of like a carnivore style diet, I have different versions in that book.
And the third version of it, when you get yourself to a point where you're a little leaner and you understand the rules, you can now break the rules.
the rules, you can now break the rules. And there's some carbohydrates that I wrote about just saying like, hey, you know, now you got yourself to this point, you're leaner,
you understand diet, you understand nutrition better. And now you can start to kind of
reintroduce carbohydrates. So that's, that's kind of how I came to the conclusion. But also the main
thing for me is people need to, you know, having so many friends and having so many people just
lose and gain weight, lose and gain weight.
It's like, man, I've seen people lose 40 pounds.
I've seen people lose 50 pounds only to see them gain it back.
And it's like devastating.
I'm like, damn, like they were doing, you know.
But sometimes maybe what I was asking them to do was challenging enough to the point where they felt like they were either doing that or
they were off of it. And now my thought process is this, let's just not have an off. There's no,
there is no off. You ate a birthday cake on your birthday, you know, on Saturday.
That's cool, but you didn't cheat on your diet. Let's make that part of your diet.
How about every fucking birthday that you have,
you eat as much shit as you want.
Now it's inclusive.
Now it's part of your plan.
If you like sitting down and watching football
and eating some junk while you're watching football,
let's make that part of your plan.
Let's incorporate that.
Let's set it up so that you have room to do stuff like that.
It's funny because we're all
kind of landing on stuff that we're sharing with each other over a long period of time. Like I was
lower carb. I probably pulled your carbs down for both of you guys. And then also this is a little
bit of a flexible dieting, right? It's a little bit of a flex on flexible dieting like why not incorporate
something like that because like if i can do that then i can do this you know january and february
march that's the goal is i want to see people to be able to do it for a long time and is a carnivore
diet sustainable i think it can be for some people like i don't think it's i don't think it's for me
to say hey this isn't don't do the keto diet.
It's not sustainable.
I've seen it be sustainable.
But for some people, it's way too much, way too different than what they're used to eating.
So coming off of a keto diet, they should have an abridged version that they can do that still allows them to enjoy the foods that they were eating on the
keto diet but still allow them to control the overall amount of energy they're consuming every
day i think like mckayla peterson and jordan peterson helped it help popularize i think she
calls her form of the carnivore diet the lion diet um but the thing is is like she's not extremely
active right um i'm not saying she doesn't train at all, but it's not – she doesn't train extremely hard in my assumption, right?
So if you're someone who does, not that you can't do that on a carnivore diet because we know that Sean Baker does, right?
And he's been pure carnivore.
Like, again, you mentioned that Sean Baker was the one that was like, you know, you'll loosen up.
And he's the one who's still with it while Saladino added in some fruits and stuff.
But, you know, it's probably not a horrible idea if you can.
Again, if you want to add some fruits in or vegetables and it doesn't bother you, go ahead and do it.
Because it's just – it's going to be probably beneficial for your gut.
It will be beneficial for diversity in there.
And if it doesn't bother you, it's going to be good for your energy output um but one thing
i wanted to ask you was like you know because some people are going to say this isn't carnivore
and technically it's not so you could just say it's like what meat based like world meat based
month or you know what i mean because don't they have like plant-based sundays or some shit what
do they call it every like there's some state that was like yeah plant-based whatever mondays like on like like the school menus on those days are just all
plant-based or something yeah yeah let's just let's do meat-based month or fucking like meat
based life meat based life yeah because like you have a bit more freedom of like why are you not
supposed to eat a fucking apple why is it there i people are going to say it's not the same apple as it was 300 years ago but i mean it's true
yeah so what really like so what oh imagine imagine if you had someone from 300 years ago
see an apple that big they'd be like holy wait why aren't you eating that right
like you're you're dumb that's why you're not
so let's say that you've already gotten your blood work done with Merrick Health.
You've gotten the right supplementation.
You've handled your nutrition.
But how about the people close to you?
How about the people in your life?
Recently, I had my mom get her blood work done with Merrick Health, and she's gotten her blood work done many times in the past.
But Merrick did an amazing job at looking at her blood work and giving her the supplement ideas to help her move forward. Because one thing is, is when you go to hospitals and they get your blood work and
they do your blood work, when they look at your numbers, they're comparing you to the average
person. They're not trying to optimize you and help you move forward. They're just trying to
make sure that you're not breaking. Whereas Merrick Health, when their patient care coordinators look
at your blood work and when they looked at my mom's, they're trying to figure out how to optimize
you and make you live the most vital life possible. So if you've gotten your
blood work done, great. But think about the people close to you. Would it be good for them to get
their blood work done and get this type of work done? If so, Andrew, how can they get in contact
with Merrick Health? Yes, super important stuff, guys. Head over to merrickhealth.com

the description as well as the podcast show notes is the uh again i know we're we're saying like
dude like just chill out eat some fruit eat, eat some vegetables, be omnivorous.
It's World Carnivore Month.
Is the carnivore diet – like do you guys think the carnivore diet is similar to like a ketogenic diet where like you get on a roll and then you have some carbs and all of a sudden you're out of ketosis?
And then you like messed it all up and then all the wheels fall off and you just go completely off the diet or is it just something that you can have a couple of carbs for a workout
post-workout pre-workout whatever and then just get right back on the train and kind of feel like
you didn't miss a beat i do want to say real quick because i've seen some people in our discord and
if you want to join the discord almost 3 000 members strong it's in the description yeah yeah yeah um but there have been a few people who have like let's
say they've been on the carnivore diet and then something happens let's say they have a dessert
like it's not not a fucking fruit a dessert or whatever and then that spirals out of control
and turns into something like that's why i think it's like don't put too don't put too much pressure on yourself to
be like i'm carnivore because when you feel the need to have some grapes or whatever a strawberry
or an apple or whatever and then you feel like you've broken down and your diet's fucked up that
that's not the truth your diet hasn't fucked up because you had some fruit or or a carb here or
there only gets fucked up if you have days and days of eating fucking processed food, right?
But that's why it's sometimes good to give yourself
a little bit of grace when it comes to this, right?
Because if you are trying to stick to carnivore
and you have an apple, okay, so what?
Just go back to carnivore.
It's not going to ruin anything.
It's not like you're trying to stay in ketosis or something.
It's not that big of a deal.
Just don't let it spiral.
And even what I've seen from ketosis,
it seems that unless you I've seen from ketosis it seems that
unless you need to be in ketosis for some very particular medical reason
which I don't even know what that would be other than like sometimes they use it
for people having seizures it seems like brushing up close and next to ketosis
actually is super effective and you get that from like
fasting you get that from like there's a lot of situations where you'll end up uh in that in that
type of situation i agree with in sema like there's no reason to like build railroad tracks
into getting to this destination like you could still go from california to new york like you
still go a really long way but why have yourself locked into going this like one particular way why not be able to
be a little diverse and be able to veer off if you need to and again i know again it's not the
carnivore diet and i know that there's so many other factors when it comes to somebody's health
there's so many other factors when it comes to somebody being obese. If you're obese and you have really struggled time and time again with your
diet, and if you've never tried the carnivore diet, you probably should go full blast into it.
You probably should just say, you know what, I'm just going to do that. I want to learn what that
is and I want to learn what that feels like. As you go through it, maybe you're paying attention and you're like, man, this is like, this is a little unrealistic.
Rather than it turning into something that you tried and you failed at, maybe get out a piece of paper, like write your own rules and just say, you know what?
There's like cottage cheese is fairly healthy.
Yogurt's pretty healthy.
Fruit's pretty healthy. Like there's all these things that it would be hard to take to any
expert, regardless of anyone that we've had on the show or anyone that Joe Rogan's had on his show,
where they would say that right there is unhealthy. Even if it was a piece of meat,
they might say, oh, you know, I don't love the fact that it has X amount of saturated fat.
That could potentially make it unhealthy if you overdo that time and time again.
But most of the foods we're talking about here, they're pretty benign.
They're things that are just going to allow you to stay on your plan for longer.
just going to allow you to stay on your plan for longer. And so I think that's, you know,
the biggest lesson I've learned in losing over a hundred pounds is that the shit just takes,
it takes a long time. Like Russell's finally over a hundred pounds. I shouldn't say finally, he's over a hundred pounds, but it's, you know, I've been there for some of the journey with him and, uh, you know, seeing him do what he's been doing,
it's just taken time, you know? So anytime that he's messed up, um, he's been amazing
cause he's been really truthful and he'd be really honest about it. Anytime he's messed up,
we'll talk about it and just say like, well, we got tomorrow, you know, we have the next day,
And just say like, well, we got tomorrow.
We have the next day.
Let's just keep getting back on track whatever way we have to.
And just because you go off track doesn't mean we go off the rails for X amount of days, which can be really hard for some people, if they maybe have rules and they sprinkle in anything else,
maybe that sprinkle ends up being, you know, that they have like Ben and Jerry's or something like that. So if you feel like you're one of those people, I'd also say like, what's wrong with,
you know, just trying the carnivore diet for a handful of days, like just,
but give it a realistic shot like actually
try to follow it see how it feels don't just give up on it out of nowhere and if you are going to
like move on from that diet have another plan like i said get out a piece of paper and write down
the plan that you want to switch to because the reason why people gain weight when they go from keto, when they go off a keto diet is because they don't go to another diet. Like you still
need some rules. There's a reason why you started to acquire body fat. There's a reason why you got
heavy. And there's a reason why you chose a particular diet in the first place. So you can't
go from one diet just to nothing. You have to go from one diet to some
other type of discipline, lifestyle, whatever you want to call it. But there still has to be a
discipline. There still has to be like some rules there that are different than whatever it was you
were doing before. Yeah. Another benefit of the carnivore diet that I love is it sounds silly,
but we're talking about like, oh yeah, be strict on the carnivore diet and if you need
some fruit or whatever go ahead because what an amazing place to be where a freaking holiday is
some strawberries like like stan efforting that's what i was getting at yeah because when i heard
stan efforting say when he likes to really cut loose and just have a have himself a day he will
have strawberries and i just remember at the time
i felt like so weak because i'm like dude what are you talking about like that's gonna be impossible
for me but um in regards to diets and stuff and sima you've worked with a lot of people um what
are some other diets that you've seen that like people have gotten some benefit from like pretty
quickly because with the carnivore diet i think people can see a massive change right away but if somebody's thinking real quick why do they see the change
well they're eliminating a lot of the crap yeah so when you when you ask me like what type of diets
it's like any diet that allows somebody to feel satiated and limit processed foods because those
processed foods are typically higher in calories. Minimize drinks that they're drinking their calories
because you get a flux on the calories through that.
Any diet that they can feel full and satiated
and limit their calories,
they're going to be able to be successful in the long run.
And the carnivore diet kind of does that automatically
because when people are picking good meats
and it's like not if they're eating bacon and eggs
all day long,
because that'll get old really fast,
but you're eating steak or eating chicken,
you're eating salmon,
you're eating some bacon here and they're eating eggs.
You'll feel full with two meals.
And those two meals might end up being only like 17,
1800 calories.
You limited your calories and you're feeling full.
So the diet works in the long run.
So it's not that like,
I don't think like keto is great.
All these diets are good, but what diet's going to allow you to get in the long run. So it's not that like I don't think – like keto is great. All these diets are good.
But what diet is going to allow you to get in the protein you need
so that you're maintaining or gaining lean body mass?
And also what other – is the diet going to allow you
to not eat excessive amounts of food, right?
Excessive amounts of processed food especially.
If you're able to do that, again, while eliminating liquid calories
because I don't think anybody should be drinking their calories these days or a very minimum amount of them, you're going to be successful.
That's like an amazing answer.
That's way better than anything I was expecting because you're not putting a label on something and saying this is the thing you follow next.
You're just like, no, follow these habits and stick with that.
And the carbohydrate diet just happens to kind of fall in with that
for people. And it's easy for people to grab onto and do. You're also eliminating carbohydrates.
And so people will lose because people are going a lot of times from a junkie diet,
especially after the holidays or around the holidays. I mean, look, there's people that
are four or five, six, maybe 10 pounds up from where they normally are. They do the carnivore diet
and they want to tell their buddies about how pumped they are about it. So day five, they're
like, I lost 15 pounds. And you're like, it's like, you're pretty bloated the other day from
like whatever else you were doing. Like you bulked up for your before picture. Yeah, exactly. Like,
okay. Yeah. You lost, but honestly they lost some water weight, right? And then over time, they will be able to manage their calories better because they are eating foods that are satiating.
And you're eating stuff that's satisfying because in a carnivore diet, you do have a good amount of fat.
And all that will be really helpful.
It will help keep your calories down.
But ultimately, it's really really gonna be super difficult there's
seven days a week the most amount of calories you can pull from yourself and
you can't even really just pull them from yourself is about 500 a day and
that's kind of still a lot especially to start out like if you start there like
that's gonna be rough so I hate turning any of this into a math equation but it's important that people do understand some of the dynamics of some of this stuff.
You would want half of your calories to come from your diet and probably half of your calories coming from activity.
So this would just mean that you probably pull out like 200 calories, 250 calories from your food.
And you probably want to try to exert 250
calories in some way, which might mean that you, I don't know, you can look it up, like just walk
like three miles or whatever the hell it is, participate in some cardiovascular training for
30 minutes, something of that nature will probably get you within range of that. That sounds to me like it's fairly sustainable. Are you going
to be able to do that every single day? If you map it out over the course of like a week, you can
probably kind of pick and choose like one day can be higher, one day can be like lower and you can
kind of, you don't have to be that mathematical about it, but I do think it's important that
people do understand some of this energy balance is important. If you're not hitting your protein markers,
again, you're going to be losing muscle mass, even if you're not like a lifter.
If you're just trying to lose weight, if you're not, why would your body hold on to muscle?
Like why, you're not giving it any reason to hold on to muscle. Even if you resume back onto, even if you go, even if you get off your diet and you start eating like crazy, which happens to a lot of people, what's the signal?
What's the signal for strength?
What's the signal?
There's no signal.
There's no signal. Whatever muscle you had from when you were younger, whatever muscle you had going into it, you no longer have a signal or an input with the new muscle that you just lost.
So you have to figure out a way to get that shit back.
So the best thing to do is not lose it in the first place.
Keep that protein high.
Activity is usually a great place to start rather than just subtracting calories.
And ultimately, you probably do need to pull a little bit of calories from your food yeah we've talked about this in the past but like another thing about diets is that people will
be like oh i have to eat like a rabbit or whatever and so the carnivore diet's amazing because you're
going to eat tons of steak but people still kind of have a hard time with any kind of diet because
they don't know how to cook what are your' favorite ways on cooking your carnivorous diets, foods? Get yourself a Ninja Foodi grill. We talked about it. The Ninja
Foodi grill is great. It's like, you know, in the past I used to meal prep. I don't meal prep
anymore. I cook my meals on the day of and I eat them because I can just stick my meat in the air
fryer if I want to, you know, I got an instapot and i started making like soups and stuff
right so i can just put everything in there and just let it sit for a day come back to it there's
a whole meat stoop soup ready to go right delicious so yeah yeah like the the air fryer
makes things really easy yeah we have a like a crock pot type thing and we just uh made up a
bunch of chicken threw some salsa verde in there and just you don't have to watch it or anything.
It cooks for like eight hours, and then you can just like shred the chicken apart, and it's amazing.
So that's one of the ways I cook, and I'll use that with different cuts of meat, usually just pork and chicken.
Because for some reason to me, beef in the slow cooker just always turns into like a weird stew.
I don't know.
It just always has like the same flavor no matter what kind of beef I use.
Yeah.
But pork and chicken seem to work pretty good for me in there.
We throw stuff in the oven here and there.
It's like regular oven.
Most people have that in your kitchen.
This is just Chuck.
I use that between the ears.
I know.
I know.
It's amazing.
Oh, that storage box. Yeah, I got one I know. It's amazing. Oh, that storage box.
Yeah, I got one of those.
It's amazing because it's so convenient.
Like you could just take like a – I mean I don't ever do it.
My wife does it.
But you take like a Pyrex and you throw some chicken thighs on that bitch and you just stick it in the oven.
20, 30 minutes later, you're good to go.
You throw some seasoning on there.
Throw a little olive oil on there.
And it's delicious.
And then I obviously just cook up like tons of meat.
I just cook shit up whatever way I can and whatever is going to be easy.
I don't use the air fryer that much for meat, but I will throw like a potato in there, things like that.
I have like a little, I don't know, griddle thing that I use in my house that I cook my meat on.
It's kind of like a cast iron thingy,
but I'll also just chop meat up. I mean, people seen me do it on Smelly's Kitchen. I just chop
meat up and I just throw it in a pan. And I like that because you get to like season like every
little chunk of the meat and it just cooks up super fast. So those are all like some things
that I do. But I think that the cool thing is is that you can turn
some of this into not just like a habit it can turn into a hobby and i think that's some of what
you've done andrew because in the past i know you got into like recipes and some stuff like that i
think that's cool and i think that's kind of fun yeah it's it's super fun especially when you can
make something that it fits your goals but it tastes so good that people who don't care about necessarily being on the diet or following anything,
they can also enjoy it as well.
Your egg video on Instagram.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
I think people need to see it.
Yeah, the egg video was great.
But what I was going to say, Mark, because you said about the slow cooker,
it's like, oh, no matter what kind of meat I put in there, it tastes the same.
What an amazing thing because you can put like some cheaper cuts or whatever, throw them in the slow cooker and it still comes out and it shreds and
tastes amazing. So like, that's what I do with the, with my smoker. So I have a pit boss smoker,
love that thing, although it's raining. So I'm not really using it right now, but it's the same
thing. You can put like, you know, a big old, like tri-tip or you can put like, you know,
cheaper pieces of meat in there and it comes out tasting incredible every time and so stuff like that is what i like to lean on then also the uh the ninja
foodie grill use that thing every day that stuff i love that thing yeah one thing
chili that's one thing that i wanted to get into because i saw charles poliquin talk about it and
i was just like chili with some like ground beef and different types of meat in an Instapot.
That I know fucking beans isn't carnivore.
What about the legumes?
Right.
Like fuck it.
It's not.
But like yo, yo, that's like that's a big it's a protein rich meal.
So I know it has carbs, but like fuck I'm going to get into I'm going to get into making chili.
That's going to be amazing.
Maybe we'll send you over a recipe. Andy Bell's really good at chili. Oh is i don't know what she does with it but it's good please i know there's a step-by-step process to making it good
oh yeah this there we go we also use a home chef you guys familiar with any companies like that
no they like send you ingredients yeah okay cool yeah and then i like you can like when you go on
their website you can like pick you know x amount of protein and you could pick to you know get Yeah. Okay, cool. and stuff they use might be kind of fatty so we'll sometimes uh change them or just use less of it
that kind of thing but it works out really well and we we don't have that that often but it's um
well i guess it's pretty often it's like two or three days a week probably we have something like
that i will say this too though um air fryer if because like sometimes this happens where uh i
forget to take out the meat to let it defrost. You can stick your fucking meat in the air fryer and it'll still cook that shit perfectly.
Because sometimes, you know, if you have defrost your meat, sometimes you're like, oh, let me door dash instead.
No, just go cook it in the air fryer.
It will cook to perfection.
Last thing I want to mention is that if you uh are the other advantage of being like keto
and the other advantage of being like on a carnivore diet is if you do go out to eat oh yeah
it's usually pretty easy yeah you might have to like reiterate 17 times that you don't want
anything else with the food but i don't even really usually even bother to do that i usually
just have like personally i'll just eat the vegetables but if you're someone that's not
going to eat the vegetables i just found it easier just like order it the way it is and just like
sweep them off yourself when you when you get them but um it is hard you know it's it's really
difficult to do like a bodybuilding style diet um it would be tough if you're really trying to
limit calories and you're trying to go somewhere to eat uh you'd have to kind of like save the
calories for that particular situation but in the case of carnivore you just order the friggin ribeye
and uh go to town on it and just just smash the hell out of that meat yeah order the ribeye order
the flying dutchman hold the fries yeah yeah it is super easy to get around uh on those diets
yeah that's my that's the way my brother's doing it. He loves going in and out.
He's crushing it.
He's going all the time.
Yeah.
Who do you guys think the carnivore diet is for, though?
Like, is there a certain archetype of person
that needs to maybe explore this?
I think it'd be really good for most, like,
just guys who've been, like, heavy,
guys who've been overweight
that just haven't found the diet that
Almost anybody I've ever put on like a ketogenic style diet after they're on it for a couple days like I love this
I don't know why I don't do this all
Because it's like meat and eggs and cheese and it's it's just delicious
Mm-hmm. If you if you know you have auto issues, like we've had that video of Chad Mendes,
right? It's a great elimination diet. And then you can start to add certain things in to figure
out, okay, what was causing my problem. So, you know, for you, that's, that's a good idea. If
you're someone who, let's say that you do find that you overeat certain carbohydrates, kind of
giving yourself a break from that and only eating meat might be a good idea. Um, because then if you
start to bring carbohydrates
back, maybe you don't eat as much of it as you did before. It's hard for people who have like
had the habit of eating 400, 500 grams of carbs a day to just lower themselves down to like a
hundred or 200. So you go cold Turkey for a little bit and you realize, Oh wow, I can get away with
less. Right. Yeah. Especially if they don't know they're eating 400 or 500 calories and carbs or whatever.
Or grams, sorry.
Yeah.
All right.
Strength is never weakness.
Weakness is never strength.
Catch you guys later.
Bye.
