Tick tock.
All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this week's episode of the Massanomics Podcast.
I am Tyler, joined to my left by Tommy.
Hey, hey.
And Tanner.
Hey, everybody.
So now that you can definitely tell the difference between our super not-the-same-dull-sounding voices,
and you know who is who, we'll dive right into the meat of this
week's episode right into the meat diving into the meat and potatoes um do we want to start with
some internet shit talking first the rob's stuff that's what i like to talk i think all we do is
talk internet shit talk but yeah so rob philipp has got shared by quads,
like Rob quads,
like Rob,
if you're on Instagram,
simply shredded.com added a video,
basically like,
uh,
just showing Rob squatting.
And it was like,
when you haven't missed a leg day in decades,
cause it just happens to be a very short shorts video of Rob squatting.
And you guys,
which is what he does follow at quads like rob on
instagram and that's just what he does but the fucking so he shared it and how did he word it
he was like love me or hate me just read the comments yeah and it was fucking bananas like
the type of people the type of things that people are commenting on so here's just one of them
my point of view bodybuilders should not exceed proportionality not too much biceps not too much
legs nothing too big think of your clothes guys and that person probably doesn't really even lift
right there's no way let's find out you don't get to say something like that and not have me look at
your page listen Listen, Dennis.
Dennis might lift.
But Dennis does not look like he lifts very much.
So he is speaking from an expert point of view?
No, certainly not an expert.
I mean, not with an arm like that.
No.
But that's an arm like maybe somebody has lifted.
Something.
Or he's just picked an angle. But proportionalityality dennis maybe you should step up your game for all i fucking yeah but uh yeah it's crazy the comments
like and then they're like it looks like he's skipped a few calf days but he doesn't have small
calves no his calves are probably huge this other guy chimed in and he says his calves are fucking massive in proportion to his his quads everything is going to look small
yeah you know what i mean like i also would be willing to bet that rob has a massive fucking head
but proportion to the rest of his fucking body you could be like does he got a small head
right no um yeah it just goes and then it's like okay this other person goes okay but does he work
on his hammies and his calves it's just his hammies yes so then this the other guy chimes
and he goes it's not hashtag hammies like rob which in my opinion wins the fucking day
um but i want to know who fucking asked that question too
oh and the guy that asked if he works on his hammies and calves um definitely doesn't lift
no no not at all he doesn't work on anything no so yeah whatever but that shit is fucking funny
but this goes on and on and on.
So how many comments does this thing have?
Oh, Jesus Christ.
So the original, so right now it's at 270,000 views.
I don't know.
I can't see it on the mobile, like how many actual comments.
See, because it's shared 411 times.
It'll show that, but it won't show me the comment count.
But it's liked by over 5,000 people.
So we've got to assume there's hundreds hundreds if not a couple thousand comments if i go back to the actual sharing page it'll probably
tell me but um but that's who knows how far buried that is well and geez they say uh you know women
suffer 1 100 comments it's a few and they say women suffer from body shaming and here's quads like rob just
just taking it for everyone i know i know that's really sad like he he was getting in there on the
comments and not not uh not even really defending himself or being a jerk or anything like that but
just kind of there was a couple funny little there was a few things too that he like he kind of like
put answered there's like some people just answering questions like you know there was
somebody was like something about geez that's like squatting this that he was like actually you know because
it was only like five i think it was 585 or 585 a little over 600 or something he's like i mean
it's a lot for a normal he's like but honestly he's like almost no matter who you are with a
few years you could probably get uh-huh to that if you try you know he's like this isn't like that
at least wasn't right right um people asking him what he wears for pants every day,
and he just responded, jeans.
Yeah.
But, yeah, poor Rob getting bullied on the internet.
Do you guys ever been bullied on the internet?
I don't think so.
No.
You guys ever had a taste of, like, internet fame
where a bunch of haters came
out i haven't no no uh the closest thing we've had is just like articles that i put out for
mass and oh yeah it's the same thing as this though where everyone's an expert all of a sudden
right right yeah and we're not and by no means in some of these articles are we claiming to be
the experts we're just presenting some information we specifically claim the opposite usually where like i'm pretty sure
that i don't know what we're talking about right but why don't you start a fucking website if you
know so much right i did have when i had like was it a year year and a half ago two years almost
yeah a year and a half ago now we had i like cross at hq posted like a weight loss picture i had i forgot about that there was like like a thousand comments and most of that was good but there was a few
look at the which will go back into the next thing that we the other the q a we had on instagram
which was a dude's fucking nipples are casting shadows i think was one of them on there i was like leave me alone about the
nips man nip game strong right with tommy's hair he's not gonna get any hate on the internet it's
nothing but love so i would assume yeah i would assume people that don't like it don't have
enough initiative to make a comment about it they don't dislike it so much
and if that really frustrates you that much then
you have much deeper issues so bad i gotta make fun of this guy for his hair
thinks he can just go around having hair like that oh yeah it's gonna be some it's gonna be
some like sad balding son of a bitch like me with a behind like a private account yeah he was like whatever dude go brush
your hair kevin durant got found out that he he had a yeah fake account a twitter account and he
was responding to all these people that were hating him on the internet and then he forgot
to switch out of the account so they caught him they caught that he was no it was actually kevin
durant which i feel like is there some examples i I imagine it's probably all gone by now.
Yeah, it's probably documented somewhere.
But I feel like when that comes up with people hating on you,
your argument is, I am Kevin Durant.
I don't need to say anything.
It blows my mind that –
I mean, it shows that they're all just regular people really at the end of the day.
But it's like the fact that one of the best basketball players probably of all time you know just won a championship like feels like he has to defend
himself against regular people right yeah i can't picture michael jordan like it's just a way i'm
gonna be told no no i'm gonna be totally honest with you i fucking promise michael jordan would
have done that made a fake account i know michael jordan could not handle anyone talking shit but
i feel like he would have done it michael jordan michael jordan has one thing that people kind of
like gloss over because it was before the age of the internet and that is the biggest fucking ego
in the history of sports and that's why you get good but trust me if anybody was talking shit
about michael jordan he would have thought very closely yeah about it you know even then he
probably thought about sending some fucking letters.
Yeah.
I just don't know if he cares as much about, like, shitbags on the internet.
Yeah, I feel like with the ego thing, he'd be so much above it that he wouldn't even.
Yeah, but here's the other thing.
Charles Barkley, he'd get on him.
He still now will, like, in the last few years,
will, like, challenge and talk shit to
some like young up-and-coming basketball but how he could still beat them like he can't even let
that go in spite of the fact that there's no fucking way right you know um i have a feeling
that there's would have been some shit talk that michael jordan would have been more than willing
to engage in yeah yeah and i think he's really lucky that it wasn't as accessible then.
It also makes you think like how many people's like legacies through time
would have been completely different in a social media world.
Well,
they would have got caught and in the world where everyone has a camera on
them all the time,
they would have just got caught doing so much worse stuff.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
Like,
because I believe they were doing a lot worse stuff all the time.
Yeah.
Like LeBron James has, for the most part, been squeaky clean.
I feel like for the spotlight he's had on him since he's been 18, basically,
how many times has he really messed up?
Has he ever flipped somebody off?
Anywhere, ever.
I did twice on the way home yeah that's fucking nuts yeah where everyone catches everything too so it's especially if
lebron james is around your people are recording that stuff you know like they're not missing that
yeah like if lebron james flipped you off would you at least try to lawyer up
and be like listen it hurt my feelings well do you hear that would you at least try to lawyer up and be like, listen, it hurt my feelings a lot.
Did you hear the one just this past weekend when the Celtics lost to the Cavs and Kyrie was walking out and someone goes, Kyrie, where's LeBron at?
And he goes, suck my dick.
Really?
He got fined like $25,000 for that.
That's a bold reaction.
It is.
It is.
But you know, you just lost.
Emotions are running high.
Did he do it then?
So yeah, they had to settle it.
That's actually why it was $25,000.
It was a binding contract.
He didn't know what he signed up for.
He's a man of his word
we have speaking of instagram shit talking so tanner you put this out there today
yeah we needed some uh we needed some topic information here
from our loyal fans on the instagram and what do we got here is there any particular order you just
want to run this down?
Oh, we could just go top to bottom.
Top to bottom.
Or bottom to top.
Side to side, front to back.
Do you guys go front to back or go back to front?
Just kind of mash it all.
Just mash it all in there.
I remember what I was listening to today,
but they were talking about, it was a podcast,
they were talking about someone who they thought was just particularly gross.
And they were like, I bet he has a podcaster, talking about someone who they thought was just particularly gross and they were like,
I bet he has a
policy where no matter what's
going on, he just wipes once.
It's a bold policy.
Nope, I got my one wipe in, time to move on.
So we got
Big Ross,
Mount Rossmore, says,
my son was born yesterday.
Congratulations for us.
Yeah.
It's awesome.
How early is too early to make him try four Oh five on the bench.
You know,
I don't think enough high school kids are benching four Oh five.
So I'd say definitely then if you want to be progressive on it,
you could probably shoot for middle school.
Yeah.
I think what you should do is as soon as they're able to move their arms through that
range of motion this and everybody knows the best way to bench 405 is to come in a bench 135
and then 225 and then 315 and throw that fourth wheel on yep and if you get it you get it if you
don't you try again next week yeah you just do that i think too many people get forever i think
the problem is too many people get hung up on the baby steps and not looking for the one-plate increments
because, really, we're moving in plate increments here.
Everyone knows the human body was specifically designed
to get stronger in 90-pound increments.
Exactly.
Like, you almost, you're never going to be 5 pounds strong.
No.
You just are going to get stronger.
And who cares if you were?
Yeah, it's a waste of time.
Until there's a whole other wheel on the end.
Everybody knows.
It's the way, that's why they make 45-pound yeah but ross knows that secret though so he can pass that knowledge
on a little better i see that way too often though people just trying to make small manageable
yeah like what the hell's with these losers yeah just let's sell ourselves short our whole life
never see what we're capable of uh i like that a lot congratulations ross by the way i i when i run into him at the gym maybe uh
a week or two it was a week or two ago and i had forgot that they were expecting yeah and then like
and i was like so how's how and then he was talking about i was like oh yeah like how far
along you know how far along how much you got left and it was like oh like now yeah like any moment now so
congratulations so we've got uh mega ruby here says can you share your origin stories
like how massonomics got started why you got into lifting i'm sure this is in an older podcast but
you guys said not to listen to the old podcast and i'm just trying to follow directions
and what is the line on actually old podcasts?
Definitely nothing before episode 15.
Yeah.
Or is it that bad in the beginning?
I don't know.
I've never touched those ones again.
Just such a different land back then.
Those are like on some old shelf of the internet.
They're never going to get dusted off, so I don't know what's there.
of the internet they're never going to get dusted off so i don't know what's there uh so how about the massonomics origin story tanner do you want to start with the
original massonomics should he keep this to less than an hour or that's good let's let's let's just
move through some of the high points kind of kind of like the original how it even came into existence and then how the
the website yeah podcast all the other stuff came to be the name itself first came with uh
myself and professor sean's texting back and forth um before that i tommy and i had talked
in the gym and i had said oh it'd be kind of cool to have a youtube channel you know it's actually
not that cool turns out everyone has a youtube channel but at the time it would be pretty cool
my son has a YouTube channel uh the neighbor kid across the street also has a YouTube channel
as does the like six-year-old who lives to the north so it turns out but this was
you know the early stages of YouTube like like 2014. When it was just fresh.
So thinking of getting a YouTube channel,
so Professor Shanz and I were talking back and forth,
and we came up with a name one way or another.
I honestly can't remember the exact conversation that led to the name.
And then we might have had a couple videos,
but not very many until we did have some videos, I think,
until Tommy came up with the logo.
Yeah, because I remember this was when we'd still go to the Y.
I didn't talk to anyone a whole lot there
just because, one, we were on different schedules a lot,
and you just kind of get in and do your thing.
And they were dicks.
Yeah, but I remember you saying something about, like,
oh, I made a YouTube channel.
Yeah.
Oh, that's cool.
And I think at the time you had maybe one video filmed, maybe.
And you showed me the name.
And at first I was like, I saw Sonomics.
And I was like, okay.
Nice name, idiot.
Oh, that's really cool.
And I was trying to say it.
And you're like, oh, it's cutting it off.
And you zoomed out. And then it said Massonomics. I'm like, oh, that is actually really cool and i was trying to say it you're like oh it's cutting it off and you zoomed out and then it said massonomics i'm like oh that is actually really cool then i go you know
i could probably work on a logo or something and i think it was like a week later i had some down
time i was actually thinking of something and just like this pretty much how it is exactly
popped into my head i went home that night and i don't know if it took me a half hour to whip that
together and i sent it to you and I think you're on vacation in Florida.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then your message back to me was like, oh, my God, that's so cool.
And I was like –
It wasn't like, oh, that's not too bad.
Yeah, and in my mind, I was just expecting like a, well, yeah, it's kind of cool, but we need like a barbell in there or something.
And then he's just like, that's so cool.
I'm like, oh, cool, all right.
Yeah, once I saw that right away, I was like, oh, that's it. i'm like oh cool all right yeah once once i saw that right away i was like oh that's it that's that's the ticket so then we had a logo and we made a few few videos professor
sean's and i made separate videos i did just basically me lifting at the gym and he did some
him talking in dim lit rooms about nutrition topics and filming himself and uh we went on with that for a while and then
uh there's probably five to ten of us at the gym that i had been thrown in this idea of of uh
starting the gym throwing it around for a couple months and enough people
weren't just being like oh that'd be kind of cool. You know, that might work. Like enough people were like, yes.
If you do that, let's go.
The YMCA.
So hard.
This place is a fucking goddamn awful, awful place to train.
Exactly.
And enough people like were saying that where I was like, okay,
you're probably actually going to do it.
It's not like I'm going to go get a place for us to be and get some stuff.
And then everyone's going to be like, oh, actually, you thought we were serious about that like no way but part of this
and this is where a lot of people fail with any of this stuff is like managing expectations like
it wasn't like well if i buy some weights you know and i can recruit 50 some people right i'll
have a gym and then it wasn't like this whole stressful like from the beginning it's like well
if six people are on board that's all it takes to stay afloat so that was the expectation is we need
like six people yes i found this tiny horrible old basement room that was not much bigger than
this actual spot we're podcasting in right now for real yeah much bigger yeah it was much much
much dirtier but not much bigger and uh so we had that going for a few months and then
then uh then tyler checked it out well you guys had already moved the needle forward enough to
where you were doing some like longer form like yeah we're putting on facebook still on facebook
so typing out like sean's is basically making articles on facebook and we talked about this
website thing several times like sean's and i knew from Facebook, and we had talked about this website thing several times.
Like, Sean's and I knew from almost day one, we're like, we need, maybe not day one, but, like, day 30.
We're like, man, we really need a website.
It doesn't really make sense for us to do this and not have some sort of website.
At least have somewhere to archive it.
It could be, you know.
Right.
But we just weren't making it past the step of, man, we really need a website.
And at that point, with knowing what I didn't know about websites or anything on the internet,
I was like, well, that's not possible.
You can't just like, people don't just make a website.
What are we going to fucking, listen, Zuckerberg.
I don't know, you think you're going to start a website like some kind of fucking super brainiac.
Right.
Then that's what it was like.
But you guys, I think, were when I had.
So I had seen enough of the articles and stuff.
And I had done some writing on another blog that I was just doing by myself.
There was no way it was going to go.
It just wasn't going to be a thing or go anywhere.
And what was the name of your blog in case people want to know?
Eat the Damn Sandwich.
It's gone.
Oh, you can't totally go. It's gone. What go you won't be able to find it all down yeah so
if you google search it is gone my mom actually for christmas this year took it away from you
she actually went bad she went surprised she dug it out so she took a took all the old articles
and found them like in like basically via like remnants of what is exists on
the internet and i don't know how she went through the back channels through like to find it but
they're they exist but you can't find them basically yeah yeah and um and then she had
it published like bound into a book for me which is pretty cool to have that's super cool but anyway
there just wasn't a thing and it was just it's actually more of like a document of like when i was started exercising was losing
weight and shit like that before i started trying to get huge so that was like a totally
just a different man yeah yeah like completely different goals yeah yeah yeah i was like i
should stop smoking cigarettes uh maybe because they're bad maybe maybe lose some weight started doing that and
anyway so all that went on and uh but anyway we were in the same fucking town yeah in the middle
of nowhere doing almost the same thing yeah very similar basically with very similar tone yeah and
very similar success rate yeah yeah which how, how do you, like, describe incredibly wildly successful?
I mean, we're talking Facebook posts with upwards of 50 likes, you guys.
With tens of likes on them.
I had some articles that got read 70 to 80 times.
Yep.
But, no, it was, anyway, so I messaged Tanner, and I was like, hey, I know you from the internets.
You know, because we were like on each other's radar.
You know, we'd seen everybody's stuff.
So I just met, went down to the gym, and at that point, you guys were already planning on the new location.
The second location was already picked.
But this was really only like four months into the gym.
Probably, because we were only in the original location for six months.
So, yeah, it was probably.
And so I went down there and just kind of chatted with Tanner and lifted a little bit.
In March.
Yeah, it was in like March, and it was one of those things where we were like, I liked everything.
It was cool.
I didn't actually predict that I was going to get involved.
I just kind of wanted to meet the guys and kind of feel it out.
I figured we'd
figure give you something to write yeah well you're gonna write well yeah you're gonna write
about like it'll give you something and then and then that kind of dissolved because everything
kind of changed but we had basically decided that then kind of near the end of the conversation i
was like well you guys should do a podcast for sure like i think because like what are you gonna
do write thousand fifteen hundred word fucking articles once a week like how are people yeah how are people gonna know you or you know i mean
enough to otherwise you're just gonna be doing either really short form stuff or really long
form like just do a hang and and then record it and tanner was like yeah because you guys all
listen to podcasts yeah yeah so he's like well yeah like, well, yeah, we should definitely do that.
And I was like, well, I can help you get it set up.
I know the equipment and stuff just because I play music and stuff.
And then by the end of it, so I texted.
I was like, yeah, let's just do it all.
I can get the equipment, and I have the space in the house,
and we can do it here.
And I was like, but I don't want to just be your sound guy.
Just Tyler off camera every episode.
I was like, man, that's a lot of work.
You're doing great, guys.
You're glad to be a part of the team.
So I think the way it went, and the thing was,
is you guys had already formed the company
and the web domain was bought and things were built.
Well, that was just, this was all happening at the same time.
Yeah, everything happened at the same time.
So what was it with – in addition to that, at this point,
we'd probably made a few different shirts.
And by we, I mean Tommy had made our shirts, you know,
and probably some hats, I suppose.
We were just starting to go on hats, I think, too.
And so Tommy had been doing that just like as a member
of the gym and just I thought it was cool
yeah right right right so then
like at the exact same time
then I started asking Tommy like
hey like if we make
this a you know as with
the same time talking to you and stuff it's like
if we make this a thing do you want
to like do this whatever
it is like be the guy that a thing do you want to like do this whatever it is like
be the guy that does that thing for us yeah because nobody else can do any of those things
at all yeah everyone else just has to go on to microsoft word and like copy oh yeah yeah things
and stuff like that uh so that was kind of all going on at the exact same time so you and sean's
in the end but you guys had pretty much at least confirmed or pulled tommy on on board yeah and we're talking we're gonna
get a website by the way we have to have tommy and we're talking this is in like an ownership
capacity yeah because i was not like i'll be your employee because there's no money yeah because
there's no money and then at the same time like how motivated would any of us have been for like
yeah for that article like we'll give you like 40 dollars no there was no money. And then at the same time, like how motivated would any of us have been for like, yeah, for that article, like we'll give you like $40.
No, there was no.
It would have never.
There was no like that was never a thought.
It was like.
You're doing it because you want to do it.
And I had talked to it with Sean's like the very first time I discussed it.
And I can't remember if it was.
I think it was about it was almost the exact same point in time.
But I think it was about you and talking about bringing
you on and it's funny to say ownership or anything like that because there's nothing to especially at
that point right right but like of this maybe pipe dream that someday there would be something worth
something yeah so and he was like oh yeah because he knew you'd been designing everything and uh
maybe hadn't seen as obviously as much of your work as he has up to now.
But he knew that you're good at all that stuff.
He's like, that makes sense.
And then like, so then maybe you came to the gym like two days after that.
Yeah.
And we talked about this podcast thing.
And then I was like, oh, Sean.
Fuck, now we own even less of this thing.
I messaged him probably literally like four days after talking to him about you.
And I was like well uh
do you know who tyler stone is at all and he's like i don't know maybe he kind of did know a
little bit or something and i was like i think we should probably we should probably make him the
there should probably be four of us and bring him in and just do all four of us evenly and
and right away he i could tell he was like how many many people are you going to, like, are you just going to bring someone in new every day?
Because this was like two in the course of a week.
And he was kind of skeptical of me, you know?
It actually is a sensible concern because if you really think about it,
like, you know, so with the CrossFit gym I own,
it's me and Derek's my other partner.
And, like, if I think about, like, okay,
if I were to take on a third partner or even
someone like with money yeah it's like well wait that's that much less than i wait a minute wait
a minute then i make even less yeah and i don't make hardly anything now that's impossible what
what i said that's where you look at it you're like yeah ownership is like so two weeks later
you guys owned half as much yeah of the business as. But exactly what I told them, and if you think of it this way,
it makes perfect sense.
I was like, do we want to own 50% of nothing?
Or maybe we could own 25% of something.
I do think with four of us, the ceiling is a little higher.
Or at the very least, the pace with which we move up is a little fast,
just because of the workload.
Well, and just every one of the four of us does something a little fast just because the workload well and just every one of
the four of us does something a little bit different than the other one and that's also
that's also something to like be aware of whenever you're getting into a partnership with anybody is
don't get someone on your team that does the exact same thing you do because you don't need to
duplicate yourself you're already yourself you need a person like if like tanner comes tomorrow
like oh i think we need to get another guy that can like do graphic design and website stuff. We'd be
like, well, what if it was you and three of your friends that are all really good at graphic
design? It just kind of wouldn't make sense. I also think really good at that. I mean,
that is a really good, important skill, but having one guy that's really good at it is
a pretty good, like, like, like Tommy, if Tanner came, he's like, hey, I got a guy.
He's really good at scheduling things and just being consistent
and moving things forward.
He's got all the spreadsheets.
He'll handle all the financial stuff for us.
I'm like, but what the fuck are you going to do, Tanner?
But what do you do, Tanner?
Exactly.
Yeah, so I thought, anyway, but I think we kind of got,
I don't know how much thought you put into that portion,
but I think we got lucky in that regard.
A little bit, yes.
Then like everybody's skill sets with very little overlap, we kind of have all of our bases covered.
And that we're still all generally interested in the lifting thing.
It still is to this day all a little bit different probably.
You know, like Sean's does a different thing.
You know, at the time you did CrossFit pretty much exclusively but that that made sense to me like
for it to not be it has to be diverse and the other thing the diversity gives you is it pushes
you in different directions because i remember like when this was all happening like that week
tanner's like yeah so there's this tyler guy and he's like explaining it to me he's like yeah he
wants to do a podcast and i was like okay he's like yeah like he thinks like all three of us should do it I'm
just like yeah that'll that's gonna work what are we gonna talk about after week three and uh
I'm just like thinking like god listening to myself on a microphone that's gonna be
terrible like no way and like we showed up and I think we did one or two and like we're like
they were the first ones were like 15 minutes 20 minutes long they're very short like under 30
which was the way to do it too though because like what are we gonna just pop in day one and
be like all right let's plow through an hour like we have no clue what we're doing we wouldn't have
been able to do that actually it was interesting because at that point we didn't even i didn't
hardly know you guys at all either so like those first few episodes, it's like, so are your parents cool?
Yeah, you just can't talk to someone
like you would talk to them if you actually know them.
Or like this even.
Right, yeah, that's true.
We wouldn't have a conversation like this.
But it made it okay in the way
that we could almost interview each other a little bit.
Yeah, and I think that's what the first few were kind of like.
It's actually the opposite of what I like to do.
There's two ways I like to do it when we have a guest on.
One is like go right in and let's just record as long as you know that they're not weird, like socially.
The other one, though, so that's a good way that you're not missing any of that.
Because there's always going to be like discovery and stuff like that. So when you have somebody on, that's a good way to go is not missing any of that. Because there's always going to be discovery and stuff like that.
So when you have somebody on, that's a good way to go is let's just move.
Yeah.
So how was that?
What was this?
That's cool.
But the other way, though, is to have some familiarity.
And then you get looser conversation, which works.
Like in our case, if you could go work out with the guy for an hour.
Exactly.
Like the day before, the morning before.
And then you're like, oh, yeah, we worked out we like we both got sweaty and stuff so now we're
kind of friends yeah yeah i smelled his his weird this weird gym essence not into it yeah he's got
the weird smell too so we're good the way dogs smell each other's ass symphonies leave we're like yeah he's he's a dude um but that is kind of that's how
all of this came to be and we we just i mean we knew we didn't like accidental accidentally like
fucking record this many episodes either like we knew going into it what the requirement is and we
we all listen to podcasts i would say and the plan was always
to do one a week yeah you're never gonna which sounded so crazy in the beginning yeah yeah
and and but the thought was we knew that like not doing a like stopping early is what fucks
podcasts like like being like oh well i did 30 episodes and i'm not fucking famous yet yeah yeah
and so then they quit and it's like,
well,
what if you do 300 and you're not,
well,
what if it's 400 or 500 or what if you just don't hate it?
And that applies,
that kind of applies to the whole principle of like,
you just have to put in the work.
Like,
it's like the same thing.
It's like,
like next year,
do we just,
well,
we've gone to the gym for however many years now.
Like,
that's it.
Like,
it's like,
I'm just going to quit doing it.
I haven't squatted a thousand pounds yet. I might as well just shut it down. Right. Yeah. I think it's like I'm just going to quit doing it. I haven't squatted 1,000 pounds yet.
I might as well just shut it down.
Right.
I think it's kind of true with the podcast or just everything we're doing.
You know, we're probably, we always have the idea that we think we wish
and think that we should probably be getting more traction than we are even right now.
You know, that's always kind of the thought like,
oh, I think we're putting out a pretty good product
here. But it is, we are always constantly
making progress forward.
So it is like, well, fuck it.
We just aren't going to quit doing it.
We'll outlast
everyone else that quits.
That's the truth. We'll just last
longer. We might not be better,
funner, cooler, but
damn it, we will be longer than anyone.
As God is my witness, if this basement is still standing, there will be a podcast in it.
But it is kind of working, though.
Even lately, our podcast numbers have really –
The trajectory has increased.
A good trend.
That's the interesting thing thing i think about it
is we kind of preach it the same way with training is it like well if you're a little better next
month and a little bit better like even just a teeny bit better that's good that's good and if
that trend exclusively goes up which in our case it has for the pod you know the podcast stuff it's
like well then it's only a matter of time.
And so that's what we're doing
is we're just trying to do it as best as we can.
And the numbers keep going up.
And I guess hopefully we take Mark Bell's title pretty soon.
And we have learned some things that work well.
And like anything in life,
like just showing up and just being there already puts you ahead of almost half the people because half the people just can't show up to something.
Nobody, yeah.
People either don't have the balls or they're just scared.
Just showing up puts you ahead of half the group already.
And then if you can show up and at least put some effort in, you're ahead of that much more – that many more people.
And like because of that, we've learned a ton of stuff. And I mean, it's the thing that I always thought was interesting, especially with like the this to me is like just a really neat experiment, you know, that we've been doing.
And it's, you know, we've learned a ton.
But Tommy, we were talking about this a couple weeks ago when you had, you know, got your business up and running and stuff when you went out on your own and how we start asking around like you think when you see these people that you know who are really
successful you're like that guy just he just knew what to do and it was just bing bang boom abc i
get this to start and everything goes and it's like no no no no we have i've been asked around
since we started the gym the questions like marketing and advertising and fucking sales and this and
that and all the things and coaching.
Nobody fucking knows anything because if there was a formula,
everyone would fucking do it.
And then that formula wouldn't work.
So all it is like the people that are making it work,
they just jumped in and then they're just navigating the water.
They're doing a good job.
Yeah. They're just doing the best that they come. Then they're doing a good job, the best job that they can.
They're just doing the best that they can.
Sometimes they are afloat, and sometimes they fucking get knocked under.
You can't be a total idiot about it.
Tanner can't go to work tomorrow and be like,
guys, I'm putting in my two weeks.
I am starting a graphic design business tomorrow.
That wouldn't make any sense.
You have to at least understand a little bit about yourself.
I mean, not in fucking Tommy's market.
You're saying I can't compete with you?
Is that a fucking threat, Tommy?
But Tyler's not going to go to Derek tomorrow and be like,
Derek, I'm becoming an egg loan officer.
Yeah, definitely.
I think I found my calling.
I'm going to borrow farmers' money.
While the price of corn is down.
It's a hell of a business.
But yeah, I mean, that's about,
I mean, that's as far as we've come, I guess.
The other thing I would guess,
I would say that has worked,
if there's anything that lends our,
other than like the actual look,
which is Tommy's stuff, lends our brand some legitimacy,
is some of the connections that we made with people that
maybe have a much larger following is you guys,
that is so much easier than you think.
Yeah.
People are so nice and they're so willing to talk about things that they're
enthusiastic about.
Just fucking don't be weird.
Be respectful of their time and ask,
but because we have this platform and this is something I learned from both of you guys
that I would have never done on my own
is that with Instagram, you literally have,
like you basically have anyone in the world's phone number.
For sure.
You do.
They can choose to ignore it.
Yeah.
But you can put somebody in front of anyone.
But you have anyone in the world's.
There's pretty good odds.
Yeah, you have anyone in the world's phone number.
Now, if I send a message to The Rock,
chances are he's also gotten 10,000 other messages
from people that
day.
But you can pretty much get in contact with anyone you want.
And as long as you're not a total weirdo, for the most part, that's just another person
getting a message and they'll respond to you.
And Tyler, I don't know anyone that's probably talked to more people than you.
Like when I hear it's like, oh, I talked to so-and-so today.
It's like, yeah, I just shot them a DM because I want to know how they did this, this, and
this.
And how many people have been like fuck off tyler we're
not telling you uh yeah like like zero right not not a one like even yesterday logan gelrich who
owns deuce gym has his branding and his image the way he controls his social media as on point
as anything i've seen the way he runs his Instagram stories the look of all the videos it's so fucking cool it's just cool and and and I basically just want to rip it off I mean not like
but I want my shit to look that cool so I've asked him like hey I'm having trouble with this
I shot him a message and he's like he's like yeah yeah this is he's like well what's your
workflow look like and I said well I go from this to this is he's like that's exactly what
mine is I don't understand why it's getting cut down, and he was like,
just check maybe this,
and then let me know,
and yeah,
that's a guy who has a lot of fucking better things
to be doing with his time,
but they're just willing,
because that's a guy who just figured it out,
and if someone came to me with the same question,
I'd totally,
I have helped four or five people order
literally the exact same equipment
as we have to start podcasts
and and it's just some of it some of them stick with some don't but like i'm always good to answer
those questions because it's like i had people like we had to ask and they always helped but
even asking for interviews and shit like that they're just people are just in um it's crazy
yeah it's super crazy but like like if you could go to like the truth is if you
get past anybody who's like real famous like in the world of not strength sports famous like
you're not gonna get kanye west probably you have to have a reasonable but like but like in this
world if you're niche enough like in this world and you don't put anybody out like if you were
to say to i don't even know i'm not even
gonna well i'll just give an example of one that we've done um i don't know what was one okay say
like nick tyluke yeah yeah yeah you know it was a bit of a five-hour drive for us to get there to
him nick's seven-time national champion and he's got a family he's got shit to do and he's not like
lifting isn't 100 of of his fucking life.
We're asking to come to his house.
But so the question is basically,
Hey,
is there like,
I get everybody on board with the concept first,
like concept.
And you handled that one actually,
but like conceptually,
if we were to come to you,
we'd go in your garage,
we'll set up the stuff.
We can set up the stuff.
It'll take 25 minutes to
set up an hour to record we'll get right out of your hair it'll be a good time promise we're not
weird is that something you'd be amenable to and if the answer is yes all right well does this date
this date or this date and time work for you the answer is no is there any times that would and you
just try to then make the schedule work and don't put anybody out and pretty much everybody will do it.
Yeah.
I don't know.
You're coming to the truth of the matter.
People like to do that stuff anyways.
The truth of the matter is I've never been told no.
I've never had somebody say no.
I've had, we've had some scheduling stuff didn't work out.
We've had some flights that didn't work out.
We've had, but for the most part, realistically, if we're willing to make it's only a matter of time and any of those, and any of those things that didn't work out we've had um but for the most part realistically if we're willing to
it's only a matter of time and any of those and any of those things that didn't work out
it's just a matter of timing yeah um if the timing doesn't work they're still there so yeah keep
farming leads you know that's that worked really well for us and that was something i don't think
we thought about when we started either no you know i don't think so either and it is as we've
gone it's gotten easier because we've done it before but also just you do build a certain
credibility yeah and we've everyone you everyone you put under your belt right one more that you
can add to your list like hey and in this little tiny niche those people like that have there's a
good chance they've probably seen something of
ours somewhere you know like a guy we've sent a shirt to or an interview or a podcast we've done
with someone you know we're out there enough now that it's not like i don't know you guys have like
40 followers on you know on instagram yeah yeah so that's kind of how we did that's how we got
to existence and how we've uh you know
fucking basically conquered the world at this point that only took us like 30 minutes to explain
that was 40 yeah it was 40 and uh real quick question this is gonna be a four hour episode
and also you kind of make it sound easy and it's not hard but it does take a lot of work it's a lot
of work and a lot of time yeah if if i were to go down and I would say my role, my week-to-week workload is probably the easiest.
And even that is the – I forget.
Everybody has other shit going on.
It's tough to just simply get audio edited, cut intros and outros.
Yeah, and we all have full-time jobs and stuff too.
So it's not like –
Tanner's got to fucking do all the video, plus manage all the social media.
Tanner has the longest one.
Austin has to do all the research and long form stuff.
But see, it's good we have...
Yeah, it has to be diffused that way.
Yeah, yeah.
And every once in a while, one of us will grab, put together a long form.
So there's a little overlap, but yeah yeah it's we've been fortunate in that
otherwise it wouldn't work you know if you had one person driving the ship you couldn't do anything
no that especially i or having a having another job that's what i mean like we like you said we
all do something else it'd be all you do which would be not a good way to make a living no if
you were just getting into this new you could this how how could this be all that's the other thing is like it's a lot easier to listen to like a group of guys
than just hang out and just one breach for like an hour that takes a really certain
nobody likes listening to me talk at all that's why you two are here
so let's move down the line to the next thanks mega ruby that was a tremendous question yeah
that was a real you basically bought us this episode.
The episode will be named something
relevant to that.
Props. We got Bacon
and Barbells says, why didn't Bacon
and Barbells win the Masonomics Arnold shirt?
Hashtag still bitter.
Well, he's too big, though. Was he too big?
He is a large. But that did not go
into the equation. He could have got it.
Yeah, yeah.
I'll tell you what, Bacon and barbells next time you order something which i know you will
from us i'll throw in a free mystery item as an incentive we've got there's a few things sitting
around can i get a free mystery item too it sounds kind of cool i was kind of thinking guys about our
next product.
And I'm going to put you guys on the spot
because I think it's
such a good idea.
Shake it.
You guys have to say
yay or nay on the air.
We're going to fully commit
to this or we're going to not.
Masanomics branded
Magnum condoms.
Because they're huge.
There's a market for that.
I think there's a market.
Condoms are for sailors.
Yeah.
We do have Mega Ruby again.
I said, and what conditioner does Tommy use?
Okay.
I'll give a – because we're really going in deep here,
I'll share some hair care tips here.
I use Pantene Pro-V, but the key is – Shampoo andene pro v but the key is shampoo and conditioner no
the key is is when you have so i i went through there's a long time ago when i was first starting
to grow my hair out you know i got this curly stuff going on and my hair was like this frizzy
fro mess like you can go back if you go back far enough i have pretty much an afro in some of my
old pictures like it's kind of an odd look so you took what used to be your curse and made it i made it work for me it takes it takes a long time but
um after doing some research and reading online i found out that really curly hair usually doesn't
respond the best to shampoo so i use conditioner only i might shampoo my hair maybe once or twice
a month is all and uh it never, it doesn't get greasy.
I mean, I could realistically not wash my hair for like four days
and it wouldn't be getting greasy yet.
So I just naturally have really dry hair,
which is what curly hair tends to be.
But to really take that hair to the next level,
you got to get the Trinity Surface Protein Hairspray
because protein makes everything better.
Spray that in your hair, some Moroccan oil.
After I get out of the shower, I got to spray it in. Otherwise I get really crazy frizzy
hair still. So I spray some of that in
some Moroccan oil and
good to go. So do you have to do anything?
Do you go like this to it? I just
pretty much wring it through my hair.
Nothing too crazy.
You've got the inside tips. Tyler, what do
you do to that beard? Beard I actually
use the Moroccan oil.
Do you really?
When it gets to be time.
Here's another little hair care secret that you didn't ask for, lady.
Listen, lady.
Listen, lady.
Beard dandruff is a fucking real thing.
I bet.
Man, it's a problem for me.
I don't know if maybe a a subpar hygiene i'm certain
but like i will fucking like scratch my beard and shit will just come out for fucking days dude it's
gross and like the oil tends to help a little bit but yeah when my beard gets like really long it's
fucking disgusting and then the mustache gets long enough to where you get everything all the food
particles we'll just know like everything you drink even even with a bottle of water uh-huh you take a
drink what happens is the hair is over your lip so you just create these like little avenues for
water to spill around yeah you know your lip will seal around it but with hair it won't so
i'll take a drink out of just a regular old bottle of water take a sip and water will be all over my
fucking face and it sucks so i like try not to eat much in public i definitely can't eat sandwiches when
you go to restaurants now it's not bad because it's shorter but like when i have the full beard
it's it's gross um there also was a second question attached to that which was did megan
get mad that you talked about her farting on the podcast yes she did did she say did she well not she's not really mad she
was like she's like it's like i can't believe you're talking about you know you know how she
talks can't believe you're talking about the podcast talk about me farting i was like well
if you didn't fart we wouldn't have to talk about it um what's the other one here do you want to
cover uh tommy asks why are tyler's nipples so visible well Tommy if you were better at
photoshop
I thought we determined no photoshop
are we a no photoshop company
no no but like from the one picture
in that shirt
did we go over this on the air
once
we took the picture that
it's not on the website anymore but we had a picture of me out
in front of the Arnold with the lift shirt on as one of our promos.
And in that picture, like in all of the pictures,
I'm nipping out pretty seriously.
And so when we got back to the Airbnb in Columbus,
Tommy's like, I was like, maybe you should soften that nip up.
Like it is pretty distracting.
And the way the light was hitting it.
And the way the light was hitting it,
if you softened the nipple, what it it If you softened the nipple
What it did is it looked like the nipple was made of a cone
It just looked like
Instead of your nipple being a nipple
It looked like you had a quarter
Instead of just like a nice precise point
It just became this big soft mess
Go back
Undo, undo
Because of the shadow
Yeah, I was breaking the rules of physics on that thing
And in this picture as well, rocking them nips.
I mean, that's a pretty tight shirt.
It's not a loose shirt.
It was a skin tight shirt.
That was my stone loading shirt.
Bad Back Lifter says,
I work out in my garage gym before everyone in my family wakes up.
Is it acceptable to wake my wife up at 4.50am for me to try and hit a
bench press PR just in case I don't make it
there's two
ways to look at that
if your wife had to grab the bar
if you had to get your wife down there
then you didn't make that PR anyways
you just gotta know you're gonna get it
yeah so just
it wouldn't be acceptable to
wake my wife up at 4.50.
It would or wouldn't?
Would not for something lifting related.
Really?
She'd be like, get away from me, you idiot.
How many times have you woke her up, though,
because you're tossing and turning,
and she's like, what are you doing?
She's like, and you're like,
I just, I got that competition next week.
No, she wouldn't be having it no way I wouldn't recommend
it um so I'm gonna say yeah go for it it's your ass z krug 67 how much caffeine is too much
caffeine um man that's gonna depend on you I think lethal dose is like uh
Man, that's going to depend on you.
I think lethal dose is like under 10 grams, I think.
But still 10 grams.
Yes.
Five or six or seven or eight or something like that. Have you ever in your life taken too much caffeine to where you're sick?
For me, though, even because I don't drink coffee.
I like coffee.
I just don't drink it in the morning.
And if I drink a whole monster before I work out,
that is too much caffeine for me.
Oh, really?
I think that's like 180 milligrams.
I drink a white monster, a 16 ounce.
I think it's about 180.
I'll drink a white monster every morning on my way to the gym.
See, 180, if I do a whole one of that,
I'm too stimulated during my workout.
It's just too much.
So for me, that's too much, which is probably on the low side.
I'd say that's low for a lot of lifting.
For a lot of people, probably even, too.
I know a lot of people that have to put down six cups of coffee before they're even functioning.
Granted, Friday night I had a fair amount of cocktails.
But yesterday morning, to get up and go to the gym, I a double espresso a 16 ounce monster a protein shake and then another uh like two kill cliffs
during during class that day all before noon so that was probably like over 500 milligrams of i
don't know maybe but i and i actually don't normally like i still drink for some reason
coffee still makes me like sweaty and gives me diarrhea like i can i don't know what it is like
i could drink like monster energy drink all the sugar-free all fucking day but um i had
been a couple times in my life though where i've like taken too much caffeine and that is a feeling
when you're like sick because you've taken in too much caffeine there is nothing that's worse than that this is it's like the most intense
version of your worst hangover because it's nothing but regret that you can't sleep off
do uh most uh do a lot of people at crossfit take pre-workout drinks some do i fucking really
advise against it yeah and that's what's hard for me like if i sometimes i'm just a very narrow windows of time to train nowadays and like if it is something where it's
like i just piss pounded a fucking monster i feel like i want to do something and i'll be like okay
i'll do this i'll do this and then i'll do a little bit of conditioning and doing any conditioning
for me when i'm that caffeinated sucks i wouldn't think that that's beneficial, really. Heart rate starts too high. I'm already heavy.
It's not a fucking good look for me.
I don't take very much pre-powerlifting working out either.
Oh, if I'm going to just lift, like for me, if I'm going to squat or deadlift,
I like having some caffeine. Oh, that makes a lot more sense.
Because I can fucking stomp around if you're a fucking tough guy.
Deflect 94. How do I get big and get big stores on a pt test i thought i said p test the first time around i was like i was like well you want
to get a big score on a p test yeah that uh i i can tell you this would be tanner's line i've been
there and done that and those two things do not go together no the problem here is and i think we should maybe we
have the right guest on sometime and this could be a good topic we could talk about is what's all
wrong with the military pt test yeah which is basically everything about it um so being strong
is not actually beneficial if you're uh trying to get a high score in the pt test uh the only thing
do you want you to be more like a marathon lightweight runner what the pt test is is
running a two mile as many push-ups as you can do in two minutes and as many sit-ups as you can oh
it is oh so if you would like to get big and get big scores on a pt test just don't get big until
after you pass your pt. That's true, yeah.
I have a question for you, Tanner.
Is that pass-fail?
No, it's a score, and it's an important score for getting promoted.
Is it?
Really?
Yeah.
That's what I was curious.
It's like, hey, just get yourself over the line. A perfect score is a 300, getting 100 on each of the three separate assessments.
Do you know approximately what three separate assessments do you know
approximately what those what those numbers would be for for uh i i remember because it changes the
older you get the more leeway okay so it scales yeah so it scales so but like for like a younger
20s guy uh to have a perfect on your two mile time it's a 13 flat and i i was really i i got
to like a under a 13 15 a couple times and i couldn't quite
get to 13 make a 13 and then push-ups for perfect is probably like uh i think about two miles in 13
minutes 13 15 not quite i couldn't couldn't quite make 13 minutes but i i was running i am
certain i couldn't run it sub 10 mile right now yeah and it's two miles too but um the like in order for me to there also is a
minimum passing score yeah and right now for me the minimum minimum passing score is probably like
under 18 minutes i would guess about with you know somewhere in that and i i could make that
it's just still wouldn't even be fun yeah you know jesus uh perfect push-ups might have been
75 or 80
in how long two minutes two minutes like can you stop and take a break and you have to stay on your
hands and your feet okay so you can't like on the air can you lay down no no no if you okay so you
have to stay touch gotcha no no your knees can't so they have to be if any of that happens here's
a question too i run into this quite regularly coaching CrossFit. Do you have to go chest to deck on every one of them?
It depends on who's scoring you.
Because here's what I see from people that come out of the military
and pop into my CrossFit gym is some fucking weak-ass push-ups, dude.
It depends on how strict of the person scoring is.
I'm talking like half range of motion.
And I'm like, I understand you guys do a lot of push-ups,
but if that's what they are, that ain't counting here.
Most of the time in a PT test, you can't get away with that.
Yeah.
It 100% just depends on who's scored.
And then if you can tell, like you're in a line.
When you're taking the test, there's 100 people taking the test.
Oh, really?
So you're in a line, and maybe there's like five lines,
all these different scores.
So you're watching what the score is like they telling you are they telling you to go or
are you just rocking them out they're counting yeah but they're not saying like down down no no
no but they'll tell you uh you'll be like uh not going down far enough not you make or like even
in the middle sometimes it'd be like yeah you're not locking out enough yeah and then sit-ups is
probably about that same number two minimum sit-ups is like 45 or 50 somewhere in there to get enough uh sit-ups are you have and the sit-up is someone
holds your you know the person that just previously went they're the now the foot holder and we might
have to get a sergeant anderson on to give us a little more look into this the thing with the
nice thing with ryan too is he's actually like a really good advocate for the fact that that is a terrible right exactly come on guys
and and they've talked a lot about changing the pt test and they have experimented with like um
a broad jump um like a trap bar deadlift like a certain weight for for reps and changing it to a
few other things that sound way more indicative.
And applicable to...
Or like middle distance.
Right, right.
I think it's like...
Run a 400 or an 800 or something like...
400 with a fucking weight?
Yeah, a pack.
A vest or a pack.
Something that's going to help you
not let your friends die in combat because
running two miles you're not saving anyone's life for your own day battlefield that's completely
an irrelevant test of anything that you're actually doing yep you know being stronger
and matt wedding talks about it you know all these uh guys in strength that do anything related to
the military they know they all know everyone knows but the reason it's like this is because it was like this 100 years ago and it's so tied in
traditional right right so i actually just thought i said i swear i'd just seen something
like this happen army's big pt test changes um and the actual changes still haven't happened, but it's like supposed to.
It's been like for seven years it's been supposed to going to be changing.
Yeah, one of the things is like the key difference is between readiness and fitness.
He said it's one thing to be fit.
It's quite another thing to be ready for the things we're being asked to do.
He said we need people to become tactical athletes.
And they'll change the tests.
Excellent, good, or poor will potentially replace a pass, fail, or a point score.
Yeah, they hope to have both tests in place service-wide by the fall.
I'm trying to see what the deal is.
Yeah, so new assessments intended to force them to actually
stay fit rather than simply getting in shape for test day now with a timed minute of rowers which
is a hybrid crunch that uses a combination of arm and leg motion so just a rower you mean well i
understand like a rower machine or like a rower arm and leg motion.
It said a hybrid crunch.
So I wonder if that's like straight arms up, like a hollow, something like that.
Or something.
I don't fucking know.
And best of three standing long jumps and a 60-yard combination of wind sprints.
Those are all better.
Seems fucking sensible.
I would definitely rather be in combat with somebody who was good at those things
than somebody who could do a lot of push-ups and run two miles fast
because ten of those guys ain't dragging me anywhere.
Right.
Well, that's someone that can deadlift 450 pounds
or someone that can run two miles in 12 minutes be like unless i need a messenger to go run two miles like i don't care
maybe we can have one of you like if i'm laying down with a flak jacket and my legs like half
blown to bits and i weigh 270 pounds and 310 with everything on it like i don't need a two mile
marathon or a marathon runner.
I need someone that's going to be able to grab me and break me.
Yeah, you know, like...
I'd be like, oh, great.
Go run for someone that's strong enough to actually pick me up.
Or use that communication device you have.
We had one more from Flying Ryan. Said can tyler go a day without eating rice
i can't i have but do you i actually eat way way way less rice now because my i'm training less so
my carbs are way down not like i mean it is intentional but i'm not even really like measuring
it i'm just eating some carbohydrates with each meal.
Less than a bag a day. It's not 18, 15, 18 cups of rice a day like it used to be.
But it still is probably more than anyone else that he knows for sure.
We did have a DMed comment or question also that I think he accidentally didn't write it on the post.
It was from Raise the Bar bar our friend from uh yeah ireland he said do you think that certain countries environments and
cultures actually this is a really good question maybe we'll want to save it for where do we at
time wise like let's go with it let's get this is what we're doing today let's do it yeah do you
know we're no fucking hard fast rules here do you think that certain countries environments
and cultures are more conducive to giving rise to powerlifters and strongmen than others.
Example, cold, harsh places like Finland, Iceland, Russia, etc.
You don't see many top-level strongmen from Italy or Mexico or Jamaica.
Other thing is, though, availability of, like, I would say, generally speaking, like,'ve got to have easy access to food.
When you can't be so poor that you don't get to do anything.
It also has to not be culturally like...
So like Iceland, there's a culture of fucking giant...
You know what I mean?
That's like Viking culture.
Being huge and smashing skulls and eating the hearts of your enemies
has been there for thousands of years.
Yeah.
What about the thighs?
I do feel like there is something.
We have all seasons here, so we can see all sides of it.
That's what I wanted, just a temperature thing.
There's something that's different in the air
once winter starts to come around
and you've got to bundle up and go to the gym. We just talking about this the other day my comment i think my comment to you
tanner was literally like oh this cold air gets me like really excited to lift it there's just
something different about it yeah and you know we get to lift in the summer when it's hot just as
hot as it is anywhere in the country and then this time of year starts to come around and it's just
like it's time to go into lifting like not hibernation but like that
that building mode where you're just yeah i like it better too where you can wear layers and like
as you get more warmed up you like just start peeling them off yeah yeah but it is interesting
too though because yeah like he does have a point like you don't hear about these crazy strong men
from like tropical climate zones very often i don't know what i don't think so i don't know
what the research is behind that also because there's no money in it either so it's not like you know if you're like a
cuban or you know like you're gonna be like i'm gonna be a baseball player so that i can
you know no matter where you are like poverty you're gonna get into the world of strength
sports you're going to be getting into poverty yeah yeah basically i mean like if that's what
you're doing that's not going to pay you so hopefully you have like financial opportunities elsewhere
and lots of food and maybe some of us just like long-standing genetics you know i would say you
know just like you were kind of talking about the icelanders and stuff like just their ancestry
babies i don't know babies being larger but just larger humans in general
you know i saw a picture of fucking half thor from a few a couple weeks ago with someone's comment
said it was his brother and his dad and i looked back into that was not true but it was like two
guys oh that both made him look very average yeah that were not strong, but one of them was big. And made him look like fucking I look like next to half.
Had to be 6'11", 7 foot tall.
Terrifying.
Yeah.
All I can see when I think of people like that,
especially someone like that who maybe doesn't lift,
is like, what have you been eating?
Yeah.
I think Iceland, out of all countries, though,
is the biggest oddity, though,
where it's a
population of a couple hundred thousand and they have some of the world's strongest men and best
crossfitters and you know yeah like from the place population smaller than yeah on a per capita basis
yeah it just it doesn't make sense yeah that's bananas um i think i actually thought i got had got tagged in another
comment that somebody put in but i never never materialized he must have deleted it i thought
that was uh it was too explicit for podcast he's probably more nipple talk sons of bitches
well i think that's gonna have us wrapped up for today, guys. Do we have anything else we had to put out? We got, I've got one bit of a exciting, uh, review news here.
Did my review that I posted finally publish?
Did you do anything funny or completely serious?
No, mine was literally, it was like a, is this thing on?
Oh no, no.
Okay.
But we have gotten another odd thing.
We've gotten like four reviews in the last week or two.
Yeah.
And I've only finally been able to read one of them here wow but uh so the reviews are coming keep them coming but we got a good one
to read here like a it's almost weird when we get these ones that are just completely normal and
like who are these people this is titled great weight Podcast. Five out of five stars from Bern Mark.
