Starting point is 00:01:58 Monty We've got a rare treat with a Monty this week. Monty can rarely visit us in the an X because of Joe the cat Fuck I love Joe. I love cats, but your car is fucking I'm allergic reaction like before anything even started. Yeah, I mean that's that's my lungs right there I'm gonna fucking die people are gonna turn into night to watch you die live on the internet I wish we talked about this before in the podcast, wasn't it? Where I, when I first moved to Austin, I fucking died. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Like it was the worst. And Joe is the, the, the, the, the cause. Yeah. We had that small Congress office, Jesus. And it was such an enclosed space. And I'm trying to work, but I have asthma. And I'm allergic to cats. And I love cats and dogs.
Starting point is 00:02:42 But the combination was just horrible. Yeah. Yeah. Dr. So, Halo 4, can 4 can out. Can we talk about Halo 4 please? Before we get to that. Oh my God! I got to talk. The reason we had my money on this week, the reason he's braving Joe the cat is to talk about Ruby, which we finally showed at trailer 4 at the conclusion of Red versus Blue season 10 last time. So, yeah. We're fucking excited. It's awesome. It was at the end of Blue season 10 last time. Yeah, we are fucking excited. It's awesome. It was at the end of the season 10, episode 22. And...
Starting point is 00:03:10 Valley of RVB. Season 10. Yes, we are still making RVB, by the way. Very good. What's the web address, Gus? Are they still making Red versus Blue Dotcom? Are you still making Red versus Blue Dotcom? Are they?
Starting point is 00:03:23 Are they? I've seen it posted like five times today I think because there's credits at the end of this episode because we love the credits so much They're cool credits. They were cool credits. There's a more there's more sense of finality. Yeah, you notice everyone's like This must be the end and then we announced another show So it's like this is really the Yeah, it's not the end. It's still going to be making it.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Ruby has always said, as long as people like it, we will keep making it. Yeah, shut the fuck up. And even once you hate it, even once you're, you're totally fed up with it, and you're like, just stop. We'll still be there. Milk the shit out of it. Every penny is. But, so yeah, you've been working at Ruby for a while, and it must be a huge relief to finally have the trailer out there Because he's teased a little bit at New York Comic Con with a little paper. We are like I came up with Ruby I mean I I've been working on like the technology for the show for like years
Starting point is 00:04:17 But I came up with the the theme red white black and yellow because of the vision. Wow! We're going to pull it off. No, but just red to eye, straight to racism.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Red, white, black. Show it to me. Shut up. Why don't you take it to myself? Where is he going to go for this yellow? You got a point at something? No, okay. The color scheme works.
Starting point is 00:04:40 I like the colors, red, white, and black. And you can, gold or yellow can fit in there. And then I was able to like somewhere between half a dream, fit the three, four letters into the name Ruby. Who, on their right mind would mix the colors red, white, black, and yellow or gold together? That would look terrible. Oh my god. It's like you knew.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Oh my god. So I know somewhere between half a dream sounds like an awful lifetime or the name of the band I was I was I was I was like half asleep when I came up with Ruby I was like the the way the started was I was I was talking to Bernie just about just shooting the shit I mean we're like still crunch with RVB 10. I was talking to Bernie I just had ideas for season 11 and Bernie was like, Monty, because we're all freaking about, we weren't even sure we were gonna be able to finish
Starting point is 00:05:30 season 10. As long as you finish season 10, you do whatever you want. I was like, take you up on that. So I started actually taking it seriously, thinking about the idea of doing my own show and that's where it came from. So this is like May, June, ish. I just came up with that idea of the RWBY. So we, it's been a while. I mean, as soon as we finish season 10, I started animating that trailer. How long did it take you to make the trailer? Two and a half, three weeks probably. Just a lot of it was like half R&D, half animation. So like, you know, the process, it kind of accelerates as you go along. I guarantee you, it's gonna get faster and easier
Starting point is 00:06:09 as we go forward and it's gonna be more I guarantee. I guess one of the reasons like, this trailer is the way it is, you know, it's so action heavy, is because I could just make fight scenes in my sleep, you know. The kind of thing we wanted to liberate on and put more thought into is like the plot and character. That's the stuff that Miles and Carrie's been helping me with. So like, um, the writing? Yeah, so Ruby is being, it's directed by Monty Ome,
Starting point is 00:06:35 and then Monty, Carrie and myself are the lead writers for the show. And essentially what it's been like for the past few months is we go to work We make red versus blue and a lot of other stupid things that we put on the internet We go home and then we go to work trying to write this new show and So for those of you that have seen the trailer and you saw the little image at the end You'll see that there's we have four characters one of which has been revealed whose name is Ruby Her name is Ruby, spelled traditionally. With a U. With a U. Yes. Ruby with a U is our first revealed character.
Starting point is 00:07:09 But the name of the show is still Ruby spelled with a W. Buf's to fuck with the... Brandon, Brandon, Brandon. Brandon, Brandon. He was like, the day we were putting up the trailer, he comes by my desk, he's like, hey, so I saw that end graphic. I looked really good. I'm like, yeah, thanks a lot.
Starting point is 00:07:27 I think it looked so cool. So the name of the show's, like, it's Ruby, right? Like, yeah, with the W, yeah. I don't know, I don't know. I don't know if people are gonna get it. What do you mean, it's gonna be fine. Like, we want people to speculate. We want people to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:07:38 He's like, I don't know, man. Like, if I saw something, fell that way on the internet, like, I just sit there and just be like, is it? Buh-buh-buh. Buh-buh-buh. Literally what? And then he went, and then when I was something, fell that way on the internet, like I just sit there just being like, is it? We were big. We were big. Literally what? And then he went, and then I was like,
Starting point is 00:07:48 I was like, well, we're putting it up today. So I think it's fine. I was, I was, he goes, okay, well, just did it on it. I went, I went, and then he went to you. And he went to me and I was like, Brennan, it's been this way day one. That's the reason for doing the show. And he goes, okay, what color can I spell with a U?
Starting point is 00:08:05 He was like, can we make the W like not as angular, maybe like, you know, curve the bottom. So it actually looks like two U's maybe, or maybe like, it's a W. It's a W. And Brandon's a Ruby. Oh, so Ruby is, the title of the show Ruby is an acronym. It's a red white black yellow red white black yellow people I'm right black yellow. Oh god. Okay. You can remember pointing at face again
Starting point is 00:08:33 So yeah, do you want to show any of the stuff? I know you brought some assets that you wanted to show all right? Well, I guess you've already seen the trailer. I mean the first thing I mean the first like thing, I mean, the first like actual step I took in maintenance, I mean, you kind of swirled it around your head and you kind of think about the technology. But the first actual step I took in this was making the world map.
Starting point is 00:08:56 This was actually something I wanted to do in season nine to be completely honest. I've always wanted to build my world, right? And back in season nine, I actually talked to Bernie about like, all right, where's the geography, what takes place, I wanted to plot completely honest. I've always wanted to build my world, right? And back in season nine I actually talked to Bernie about like, all right, where's the geography? What takes place? I wanted to plot it out. That didn't happen. What's on a ring world and what's on a normal world? Like, of course, we don't want like, there's a ring in the sky, like Earth, like planet. Relics totally on Earth. Don't look at the sky box because reach was coming out that year. And I remember that they had that awesome ass art book
Starting point is 00:09:26 and it had the big picture of the planet. Oh yeah, yeah. It was awesome. Their rules, they set up for their world, which governed the game reach. Like gravity was like one point, something extra time in the amount of gravity. That's why all the trees are like,
Starting point is 00:09:41 they grow up at that strange angle they have. And there's also like certain craters on the planet My rules about the world is That if I'm if I'm making this show that if I figure out what the world is That geography determines culture and culture determines your people and people are part of your story And that's the most important thing. So you're saying the world map is like the most important thing? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Okay, do you want to tell them how you made the world map? Okay, so the most important thing ever. You want to pull up the world map? They showed it a little while ago, we'll put it in the link down. If you go to the next frame, I also have a paper version. By the way, the night I was making this, everyone was very surprised. Harry was like, why are you so good at making maps? I'm like, what? It's the map. I was like, why are you so good at making maps? I'm like, what?
Starting point is 00:10:25 It's the map. I'm like, but like, and then I made a paper version and she was like, what? You you should have a job making maps. You can make maps so well. I'm like, just lines and paper. What's going on? The way I made this map was the first step I took. There's a video actually. Do you want to play it? No. You recorded this? And of course for anyone who listen to audio podcasts, we'll have these images in the link down below. I'll probably post this as an RT life at some point, but this is me and Shane at IHOP. Do you just like an anime character everywhere? Look, I'm still wearing red- black and white and I'm still yellow. Um, Shane and I, this is like probably a mid crunch July of RVB 10 and I'm at, I hop with Shane and I just pour, I'm like, I poured ketchup into a napkin and then
Starting point is 00:11:18 smooshed it around and I'm like, that's the base for our map. So if you go to the next image, you'll probably see a giant ketchup. Yep, a giant giant catch it's saying that that's what the map was based off of. I took that in the Photoshop and started drawing it off of that. The philosophy behind that is, is that I feel like as a 3D animator, I was probably talking about that in the video. As a 3D animator, utilizing all this technology, our process, all these computers, all these numbers and stuff, our process is so artificial,
Starting point is 00:11:45 it's riddled with so much artifice. That not only for that, for everything else I do, I try to imbue, like, kind of like an anarchic, like chaos, just to give it some sense of like, randomness. You're like Jeff Goldblum, interesting car. Like, you need to preserve that sense of chaos, because the process we do is so robotic,
Starting point is 00:12:08 that you, chaos, is ketchup. K-O, yes. Yes, I was like, it's ketchup, mayonnaise, something black and mustard. It's black. Many days, I don't know. I don't know. We probably want something lighter.
Starting point is 00:12:22 This is going to be like the most zenny contest with you talking about this. It's really weird that we haven't gone into discussion about Gavin's John Thomas. You had to bring it up already. I had to bring it up because he's not here. We have his barbringer impersonation. Oh, we have his barbringer.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Oh, we have his year eight. So, so lovely. But, so the important thing was, like, especially with everything that we just raised in our production value, that you have to preserve, to preserve that anarchic energy, that influences everything you do. So, like, if I let a ketchup stain influence a world, and then it just travels down throughout the aspects of the production,
Starting point is 00:12:55 I think that's a good thing. And you try to preserve that with everything you do. I would do that in RVB as well. And that's why I involve as many people as possible, because if it's just one person, you become rigid and static. So, I like, that's why I involve I involve as many people as possible because it's just one person you become rigid Static so I like that's why first first first first person I involved was Kerry I went to Kerry and I would I gave him anime homework Because I noticed that he would just be watching stuff while working on RVB like I would be doing we all have multiple monitors
Starting point is 00:13:21 So I was like more than others. I said Kerry You should you should do if you if Kerry, you should, you should do, if you want to be on this, you should do some anime homework. So I just started giving him shows to watch that we could, you know, work comparatively too. And then, um, Miles was the second person onto this where I would give him anime homework.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Watch this show if you want to, if you want to be part of this. You guys give me shit all the time because you, like, doing animation and compositing, you can have something on the background that you can listen to to and watch but I was having to write and then like audio and do shit like that so I couldn't watch it during the day like you guys could and you just come up to me. Oh, well, you haven't watched, you haven't watched, do you? We're lugging it. Do you want to play the trailer and talk about it here about anything in particular? Sure. Let's put it up.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Yeah, why don't we go ahead and put that up and again, we will link this for anyone to see the audio version. Link, don't. That way we can have money talk about maybe anything that many directors commentary. Man, the God, the best part was the music. That was like the last thing to put in, which I'm not a fan of that. I will be working with Jeff Williams even closer, but he's such a phenomenal artist. Like, he, like, we get each other so much. It it's great so like his his lyrics were so helpful in this the I guess the first thing that hits people with this is like the art style which everyone calls it cell shading it's not it's not a term I'm a fan of because cell shading implies this technology that was somehow invented that's that's you know chosen
Starting point is 00:14:43 to emulate a style. To me, it's just within my system, I just hit a few switches and it looks like this. It's not a phenomenal amount of technology. To be completely honest, technology doesn't grow. We just use it better. So like me doing this was just, let me just try something different. Yeah, so that's kind of what is the step to take.
Starting point is 00:15:07 You know this this is a first this is like a like a first effort. So down the line it's gonna get a lot better. And you know I mean I'll I'll like there's a good amount of response saying you know this is just it's a teaser with almost a four minute teaser with I somehow couldn't make it under three minutes I've had moves in my head that I want to get to I mean I plan on making it like a For weeks we heard like Slashes and gunshots. Yeah
Starting point is 00:15:35 All sorts of shit one of the hurt like Because I did the end-mating and the editing normally, you know RVD like Nathan or Matt would be doing the editing. I was doing the editing because it was very important. Part of doing the editing meant I also did the sound track and to me there's a certain rhythm to combat that I try to improve where the human mind naturally is seven rhythm. So if you have this fantastic thing happening, if the combination of this tax on screen that's happening has this sense of rhythm to it,
Starting point is 00:16:10 then the mind naturally accepts it. So that's another thing that's trying to put in my work. That's why I wanna work even closer with Jeff because I'm in a version, I'm in a version that was even much longer than this. And then going back and forth between Jeff, I would modify my work based on the music you would get back to.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Like down to like Sunday night, I was re-editing shots to be more rhythmic, because that's one of the things, everything that we put on screen, like regardless of whether or not how stylized it is, like this, or even the most realistic stuff, I feel like film is your imagination of what happens.
Starting point is 00:16:46 It's not the actual thing. So like, things that anime does very well, which is the reason to do this, like frame modulation and time scaling, is the stuff that happens in your mind when you actually go through just those certain peaks and watching it bring those emotions forward to you. I got to say something, when you first came to me to talk about Ruby and you told me, oh yeah, it's a badass red riding home with a giant sniper sight.
Starting point is 00:17:09 I was a little put off because I kind of discovered anime in college. I was in a big anime fan, but I've never been a fan of like the like small characters with giant, crazy enamoth weapons. I never really got that. But then when you explain to me how she fought, I immediately thought it was cool because I was like, okay, so there's this little girl that rocks around with a giant sniper side thing. How does that work? And then what you pointed out was the way she's able to swing it with such power, such forces that whenever she attacks with a melee attack, he essentially fires and the recoil from that is how she gets
Starting point is 00:17:42 around so fast, it's how she kind of flies through the air. It reminds me of a cooler version of the gun sword from Final Fantasy A. Yeah. That's qual Lionheart had. I had the time I thought was the dumbest thing for me. It was a revolver with a giant sword under it. When I was, when I remember when I was first, when I first told this idea to Bernie, it was the same thing when I, I would go to the motion, it's like, okay, so it's like this 50-cal sniper rifle it's got a blade and when you fire it goes and when he pulls like pull the blade and he was like that's cool and Bernie came back to me some days later about how I kind of always been doing this I mean I've kind of been doing this since like haloid when I did shotgun kata I have
Starting point is 00:18:20 other things going but the philosophy behind it and we'll we'll have a little bit more of it later but the idea is to utilize motion in a way where you don't waste movement. So it's like philosophically, you have these weapons that require a reload action, so like sniper rifle, the 50-hour rifle is like, but you notice every time the trailer, she doesn't always reload like this. She's also swinging the sights around to utilize the motion, and she uses the linear action of the rifle itself as a motion. One thing that Carrie and I really wanted to add you to but Monti, you're like the action master. But Carrie and I've been working on a lot of the just straight up dialogue and characters and stuff like that. And we just wanted to point out that this the this teaser is super super action heavy. Yeah, it's bail will. Oh yeah, two fights bail wolves. We were very proud of that. It's it's it's really
Starting point is 00:19:12 mastering this freaking army of bail wolves with crazy weapons for like four minutes, but the show is not going to be just like crazy super balls action. Like I said, the things I Characters important yes, but that's why it takes more deliberation deliberation thought I literally started on this as soon as RVV Ten finish yet, so I had character in mind and to me, I mean there's also a level of storytelling you can do in motion and in character There's a lot of her character in how she moves, but we have a very cerebral audience So I have not surprised that's the response where it's like where are the words the words are coming And in character, there's a lot of her character in how she moves. But we have a very cerebral audience. So I'm not surprised that's the response, where it's like, where are the words?
Starting point is 00:19:48 The words are coming. It just takes time to write them down. The words are coming. And you mentioned Red versus Blue wrapping up. And I want to get back to that in just a second, but I want to read this at your first, if I could. I want to remind everyone that this episode is brought to you by the new Squarespace.
Starting point is 00:20:01 And now squarespace.com is faster and easier than ever to create a high quality website, blog, or online portfolio. Squarespace is a unified service for giving you everything you need to create and maintain a professional within the website, domains, design, development, hosting, and support. So when you add an image to your site, seven different versions are created, and their iPhone, iPad, Android apps make it easy to update your site on the go. It was really great about Squarespace. It includes excellent social media integration. You know, I'm not actually import, sync, publish, tune from any major social media. You can pull photos from Instagram, sync pages with Facebook,
Starting point is 00:20:47 auto-publish to Twitter. And if you have square spaces built on cloud architecture for speed instability, use the latest web technologies like HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript. I got great support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can sign up for free. don't even need a credit card, you can try it out for 14 days. You just pick a template, if you want, and then just drag and
Starting point is 00:21:21 drop elements around the page, you can resize resize stuff dynamically It makes it super easy to create a website and maintain you don't have to if you know stuff about making websites Cool, you can do that as well with the service But if you don't super easy to put something together and There reminds me of conversation you and I had I think the first time we met Anime Boston. Oh, yeah, you were talking about that, uh, enemy Boston. Oh, yeah. You were talking about, uh, uh, different ways to get people to know who you were. And I said, you should have a website. Yeah. A place where people can go and, uh, and do all that. So all of, to all of you aspiring Monte Ooms, get your own domain and, uh, and stop placing people to, to gather and talk about stuff.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Like, I mean, that's one of the things we've always talked about is YouTube is great for content distribution, but there's no community. There's just a flood of comments. I'm all first. Highly recommended. Something that Bernie always talks about is like having your own space on the internet, your own corner.
Starting point is 00:22:17 So, I mean, a ton of people come up to me, especially because I'm a community manager, asking like, how do I get my stuff noticed or how do I get a job with Rooster Deez and like, that's one of the most important things is to have your own space on the internet and somewhere you could kind of funnel all your stuff into, I think. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:35 Like you did. So I wanted to talk a little more about Red vs. Blue, if we could. Since we just wrap. Today is the launch for our season 10 DVD season 10 Blu-ray and our 10 year DVD and 10 year box. Oh my god. Oh, we have one.
Starting point is 00:22:54 Can someone go get us one? I totally, I know, I just have it on my desk. We got like fucking awesome. The box set is so impressive. It's like a book. It's like bound and it's got What 14 nothing on it? Yeah, it's massive. It's got I mean, it's like 10 years of my life in a box You want to describe the like the description when we went through on last Monday's morning meeting about like this one has this many disc
Starting point is 00:23:21 This many disc this one has this is a So there's a 14 discs in This one has this many disc. This one has this many disc. This one has this, this is the end of the disc. I know the off-guard. If you want me to, it's important. So there's 14 discs in every Blu-ray version, unless you get the Best Buy version, which is the, I'm gonna get to that. Jesus Christ, I'm a good fucker. I wanted to help, I wanted to help. It's also the same version we have on our site,
Starting point is 00:23:41 has a bonus 15th disc. I would have started with that. Our site is the place that they should get it. But it has a kicker on it, this is the best part. Carrot's bringing it to the cops. Can you get over here, please? Shout out to Carrot. Yeah, pass it over here.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Shout out. This is the DVD version. This is the DVD version. That's the red guys. That's awesome. It still looks awesome. Show it to the camera. Yeah, it's awesome.
Starting point is 00:23:59 Do your job better. I've done some of the time. So like I said, it's massive. We could probably bend it out between me and Gus. Yeah, I'll open it up to show how many it's at all in here. It's actually got remastered audio, so it's 5.1. And it's really, really funny. So season one doesn't sound like, oh,
Starting point is 00:24:18 the little one. Has over 18 hours worth of fun. Yeah, the runtime on it is 18 hours and 42 minutes plus extra. Yeah, and that includes eight hours worth of content. Yeah, the runtime on it is 18 hours and 42 minutes, plus extras. Yeah, and that includes eight hours of bonus content. I love that. That doesn't include it. Yeah, that doesn't include it.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Yeah, that's extra. Shit. So you can see all the different on the left side. You get all the freelancers and then Texan middle and then the blood gold screw on the side. And it's fucking cool. Yeah, I'm dirty out over it. I like it.
Starting point is 00:24:43 It's really bad. Two of those flaps. Yeah, one of the cool things about this that I thought was a really great idea I think this is Brian's idea actually is on the pamphlet insert if you look on the back it has like we all signed it Yep, which is a pretty good everyone's I do I was out there I was really excited about the world pictures from the 10 years of making rivers and no Nudes. No, there are no Nudes.
Starting point is 00:25:08 That's his office if you want Nudes. They're everywhere. That's true. So, I mean, that was worked on for a long time and finally out the door. We have hindsight on it. But man, if you think back to the August, July of like Brandon and Lindsay and people were sleeping here. I mean this
Starting point is 00:25:25 is a wrap the project wrapped I think in what early September, mid September, and it was a real endeavor and it's crazy to me now to think about what a big day this is with Halo 4 launching. Our hit launching Ruby coming out the presidential election it's like so all this stuff happens at the same time. Yeah, and we were at the Halo party last Shit launching Ruby coming out the presidential election it's like
Starting point is 00:25:47 At the same time Yeah, and we were at the Halo party last night and all this was happening at the same time. Oh my god The Halo party was not that was insane So we went we went to the Microsoft store of North Boston or in North Austin I know it's coming. Yeah, and we did we did we did a we did a signing thing there with certain affinity and there's a Three four three. It was really really awesome We made some friends with some of the folks at certain affinity during like when we were shooting like a spoiler alert the last scene of Season 10 right was in Halo 4 so we got to go there at a time and we made friends with a bunch of guys. It was cool seeing them there
Starting point is 00:26:19 We got to play the game, which is awesome fun I think my favorite part of the night though was the very end. So we had been hanging out. There was pizza. There was the game. We were signing fans. We were signing fans. Signing fans.
Starting point is 00:26:32 Signing fans. Signing fans. Some people asked me. Yeah, no. And we're hanging out. I was talking with Ray and he has to go to the bathroom at some point. And it was weird. Like you have to go down this hole that was like outside the building.
Starting point is 00:26:44 Right. And then it was like yeah, it's a weird shady back area. And it was weird. Like, you have to go down this hall that was outside the building. Right. And then it was like, yeah, it's a weird shady back area. And then you can come back in when you're done. And at some point, like, he leaves. And then some people, Did you all go out of the store? Yeah, you have to go. You leave the store.
Starting point is 00:26:55 There was a bathroom in the store. No, no, that's the bathroom they went to. But it's like way down this hall. Yeah, because it was like in the back. Yeah, the back. The back. The back room. Anyways, so while he's in the bathroom some lady comes up to us is like okay
Starting point is 00:27:08 We're about to have a photo up, but we want only people that work on the game in here So if everybody could go ahead and please get out even you guys for your teeth. We love you go and step on out You guys can come back in after we take a picture in the game The new motherfuckers were still they told me to get in they were like come on get in the picture I was like okay. We're love we're love our class anyways, so we're all outside It was like me carry Kyle and you were we're just hanging out. It was really cold It was really sad it was like watching inside like a happy family around Christmas Yeah, we're just out in the cold
Starting point is 00:27:38 It's like watching the cool kids. Yeah pretty much like at the nerd table eating your lunch alone So we're outside for just talking we're like it the nerd table, eating your lunch alone. I'm always at the season with Zeus. So we're outside, we're just talking, we're like, it was Ray. And that's when we see Ray just like fucking just strolling out of the bathroom, happiest can be. And then he just stops.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Like, Deer and head like, it's everybody's, yeah, everybody's grouped together, like standing together about to take a picture. And he just freezes like, what, where did everybody go? What's going on? And he did like a deliq he stopped. And when, and he looked back to the bathroom, like, should I go back to the, and then finally with his with his infinite wisdom he just decided I'm gonna be in this picture
Starting point is 00:28:09 and he just started getting buddy buddy with everybody was like hey what's up yeah Hey look for right we're awesome they took the picture and I like to think years down the road someone's gonna be like and these were my co-workers I don't remember this asshole my favorite part of that story is when Miles is telling me that story, I was like, I had just walked up to them, I'm like standing outside the window. And I'm like, what are you guys laughing about? And they explain that to me.
Starting point is 00:28:33 And as they're telling me that story, I see Ray and that group of people just like, hey, what's up? You can hear me. Just like super hamming it up to the camera. It's Ray. Shout out to Ray. Shout out to Sean.
Starting point is 00:28:43 The signing trouble. It was me Gavin Shane and Ray within that order. Like the line would come in the door and go, you know, go we had these three tables set up like a U and they would go through certain affinity guys and we were at the end of the signing. People were signing starting to finish. I feel like such a man. I was signing their great artwork. Right. But with our signatures. And by the end of the night, we've been signing so long and me, Gavin, and Shane were there. I started signing my name as Gavin, just to fuck with Gavin.
Starting point is 00:29:12 So Gavin would have to sign my name. Eventually, I sign my name as Ray. Gavin signed his name as Ray. Shane signed his name as Ray. And Ray goes, what the fuck? What the fuck? So he signed Ray, like several people got their poster signed. Ray as Ray and Ray goes, what the fuck, what the fuck? So he signed Ray, like several people got their poster signed, Ray, Ray, Ray.
Starting point is 00:29:28 And then it got down to the point where just so like, the lyrics like, Shane started drawing trucks around Gavin's signature and like, hearts, I started writing Gaven. Gaven? Autumn. Yeah. People would make dick, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:45 People would make dick. So I was not finding. I just want to. I got a blue race. I got it here. Oh my god. DVD version. The nearly identical, but the blue band is your indication. Is that a success? You being on red team? What you know, there's no red race with blue race. Uh, no, I've never thought about that. We got no idea what's that work on Red vs. Blue thing about that.
Starting point is 00:30:08 We have a brown ray. Back to the races. You can see that they're nearly identical except for one of them. High death and one of them. Don't be dumb by the wrong one. That one also has the bonus. Yeah, this one you can see when you open it up, it's got the bonus disc in it right here. Quality package.
Starting point is 00:30:27 And what's on it? This is the Red versus Blue Mini Adventure. I know, that's all that's like, I think that's the Kale Away Mini Series that we did. Yeah, where there's a world, there's a wall. It's a really good one. I told you, you know, it's really regular. Oh, and that live action thing.
Starting point is 00:30:39 Oh, the live action bits on that one is the way. Thank you, Brandon, for finding that. We get to talk about that. Yeah, we do now. We do now. It's on the disc. Well, not only that because of so we a couple months ago we had the chance or I didn't go I was supposed to go I got written out of it. We got a chance to go up to the Fortin-Todon set and film a short bit. A live action red versus blue piece, which is included on that bonus disc. So if you have this disc already at home and you haven't looked at the bonus disc
Starting point is 00:31:11 yet, you should put it in and check it out. It's really badass. Like if you saw where they performed the cryo exercises, that was a set that we got to use. And it was the coolest fucking thing. That was the first time I got to do a voice in any sort of red versus related thing. Yes, I made you the voice of the computer. We've got activated.
Starting point is 00:31:30 Dude, I met Matt and she was so jealous because I was supposed to be in that, in that, yeah, the first script I was going to be in. I wrote you what I was saying, yeah. And then I got written out. It wasn't me. I didn't make that call. I like Simmons. Simmons all the way We spent we didn't really get to go out and do anything because we had to ship we had to ship a
Starting point is 00:32:07 Sarge and a caboose Costume through customs all the way to explain that one We're just like it's a costume, you know, it's just you know fun custom This happens while we're still in RVV So we yeah, we so we sent the we sent the the armor up and it was really really badass but unfortunately upon arrival customs were a bunch of digs and it was all cracked. Was it the Canadian custom to the American? It was probably Canadians going into Canada. You want to
Starting point is 00:32:35 make sure it wasn't made of drugs. This has made a plastic or cocaine plastic. How about this plastic? Plastic. Our way before the shoot just sitting on the floor of our hotel room just holding pieces together with like super glutes like they hold it for just 15 minutes and just sat on the floor and just like in pathetic silence. But it was really cool, man. All the props were awesome. I got to hold the assault rifle. They look really good. They had the headlights on it and everything. And I got to meet the dude that played Master Chief and creeped in enormous. Like he, I don't know how to tell you this. The whole show actor or the boy? No, like the guy who was wearing the costume before.
Starting point is 00:33:11 Yeah, the guy that was actually acting, not the boy sector. But it was interesting, because first day I had to find a guy that could do all the suns and everything. And then because he was so huge, they had to build the suit based off of his body. So they did like a mold of his body or something.
Starting point is 00:33:25 Also really crazy. I look at that actor, he has like all the right authority and posture for Massachusetts. That's probably why he was chosen. Yeah, that's how they're exactly good casting. That's got a bottle of water. I want to play the best bottle of water in the world. So yeah, I have not, you know, I was at the Midnight Launcher, he looked Halo 4 last night, but I was so tired about the time we were done I didn't really get a chance to play so before we came over today
Starting point is 00:33:49 I played the the first campaign mission. That's all I play so good that whole time we were signing our names There was a big screen there were several screens, but there was one screen just showing a bunch of the game I was like this the whole time that opening cinematic It's awesome. I thought was live action the first time I saw it. I wouldn't go that far. I don't know. You did lose your glasses in front. I was walking around Versailles and then I took up my glasses and I just looked and I go,
Starting point is 00:34:14 Aaron, how long have I been walking around with one lens? I could make a verse. I joke, but I won't. That reminds me. You just recently learned that there's a shitty pun making competition in Austin and you Did the oh Henry pun off. You know what their website is what pun pun pun calm Like fun fun fun. Yeah, Brandon told me the other day that The pun off would be coming to Austin. I think I believe it's in May every year. It was honestly the best news I got excited in all parts of my body and my mind starts racing. I'm just like, okay. I think you and I are the only two people in this company that like pun.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Can you tell everyone your pun you made the miles? So on Twitter, while my office was in France, he was talking about staying in a spooky hotel. What about you telling this part of the story? in France, he was talking about staying in a spooky hotel. Yeah, well, what you tell the first hotel that we stayed in in Paris, I just got back. I've been out of the country for the past week. So it's been nice. You were visiting your girlfriend. That's what they were doing. Yeah, that's what we were doing.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Just that. So yeah, I was visiting my girlfriend, Aaron in Paris. It was really, really awesome. And because that I miss Scotland, I'm really excited about, we'll talk about Scotland later, but I want to seelet. I'm really excited about it. We'll talk about gauntlet stuff later, but I want to see what it's going on. Yeah, we got a lot to talk about. Yeah. So the first one we were to was kind of shady,
Starting point is 00:35:31 because we didn't have a ton of money to spend. So we were just like, yeah, whatever we'll do with this. We're pretty sure that got a sick. So then we moved to another hotel. And it was really cute, really quaint. It had like, I don't know, it was just like this tiny little branch thing. It was just nice.
Starting point is 00:35:43 It was really old. But then at night, it became like the creakiest structure in all of Paris, France. And that cheek immediately passed out. And I was just sitting there on the internet and I went to Reddit and started going through like the creepy subreddit, like that scary story, because I'm a fucking idiot. Why would you do that? Because I'm a fucking idiot. So she was like, Redditers, why? If you're there on the computer and you're like in the doorway, like, do you come with me? Most of the time, most of the time it most of them is the other way around I'm like hey, baby
Starting point is 00:36:06 Did you see that she's like yes? I saw she loves reddit. Yeah, she lives on reddit. Anyways, I love it Yeah, I was sitting there and then I started thinking about like oh my god This place could totally be only God I can just imagine the dead woman coming through the front door and then and then I stopped I was like wait, what would you say you'd speak to me in French right? But then wait is it worse that she'd be screaming something I can't understand or something like I'm killing like I And no I didn't know what was scary so I tweeted about it cuz like maybe Twitter can make me feel better and Then people just starting to send me really creepy pictures like hey fuck you buddy
Starting point is 00:36:41 Then you were spotted you reply reply was partly boo front say and I That's what that was I read your tweet and I started laughing. I was like holy shit like I just came to me I started it cheer me up because I was just sitting there in bed just staring at your tweet like He's that's why you were spotted with himself right? I was like I was like I was like so fucking pleased with himself Esther was looking at me super annoyed I'm on the couch rolling around laughing because I'm so pleased with my Cute Barbara in like all caps you were like I love it. What did you say? I said something like that is a I love you. This is amazing. I
Starting point is 00:37:18 Learned from the master I'm glad you two have each other But um, but I made you think of an older story where we were hanging out with you in the fridge. It was like a year ago. Yeah, I don't know. We were talking about something in French. I think we were talking about the French going to the bathroom for some reason. And then Q are great sense of humor.
Starting point is 00:37:36 And I said, we're like a... We're like a judu. And then you've people like a schoolgirl and ran into the upstairs bathroom. Which is against the rules. No two and two. You guys are the fucking worst. So I missed out on Halloween because Paris doesn't really do. Yeah, I get it. I think when you say it out loud, that's what it makes me.
Starting point is 00:37:59 I like French puns apparently. I don't speak French, but I can make terrible puns. So I kind of messed out on Halloween because in terms of they don't really do it, I think we met two people that were dressed up. One guy was a Vatican priest. I don't think you was dressed up. Was one of them mine?
Starting point is 00:38:14 Please tell me you saw the Christmas of the boys. Dude, I saw the coolest fucking mimes. They had this Michael Jackson dance number, but it was like a modern-day dance number, but they still did the box. And that's all I wanted to see. They were doing all this crazy flip. So I was like, do the box, do the box, do the box. All right, cool, we can go. It was awesome. So Halloweenday dance ever, but they still did like the box. And that's all I wanted to see. Like, they were doing all this crazy flip.
Starting point is 00:38:25 So I was like, do the box, do the box, do the box. All right, cool, we can go. It was awesome. So Halloween, you thought two people? Yeah, we just saw like two people, like, I'm saying, like, what did you, I saw a picture of like you and, and Ali and Carol downtown. Yes, we went downtown.
Starting point is 00:38:39 It was crazy. People have told me about six feet before. That's why I abandoned Lindsey and Michael. I'm not just a man in her. And then I became, luckily, apparently, it's worse if it's on a weekend. That's why I abandoned Lindsey and Michael. I'm not just a abandoned man. Luckily, apparently, it's worse if it's on a weekend. Yeah, it's on a Wednesday. I think I'm guessing there was a couple hundred thousand people there.
Starting point is 00:38:52 Yeah, easy. I think you're a six-year-old. I was! Doyle and Aaron were sick! Plus, fucking. It's a good thing you're a six-year-old. We're going ahead. We're going ahead.
Starting point is 00:39:03 So yeah, there must have been hundreds of thousands of people there. Nothing, nothing eventful happened. We were all dressed up as really random characters, and we tried to keep them from getting to what we saw the same costume as us. We would take a drink. Oh, yeah. Kyle went his morning McFly. And I think you guys had to stop playing because everybody fucking recognized him or something.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Oh, no, no, no. That was Karristake. Every time he found a doppelganger, take a picture. They just were like, they were a doppelganger. Somebody was like, Marty McFlyne, everyone's like, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey drunk people on 6th day. No one got shot or ran over at this time. There was a family dress in the distance, which you would have reported. Oh, I love that. But the strange thing is, is that you were a black family?
Starting point is 00:39:53 No. So the like the body paint was kind of like, not really very successful. Yeah. It would have worked better for the nation. Oh my god, we can't escape it! I know, I can't escape it. And I like Halloween.
Starting point is 00:40:06 My, my soft, more expensive Asian. No, did you see my, my Halloween costume? Why Halloween costume? I just felt as a little kid dressed up as Luigi. So what I did was I went to Target and I bought a Luigi costume made for a 10-year-old. So you went to sexy Luigi. And it was like super timed.
Starting point is 00:40:25 I had like a little pale in everything. There's a picture of it somewhere, right? Yeah, there's a picture. We'll put it in the linked up. OK. Mine. But yeah, it's the problem with, I'll let you finish. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:35 The problem with wearing a costume kind of for a ten-year-old is that I got very tight around the crotch. So it was like a huge, a massive, a bowl of to the crunch. I had to put two pairs of shorts on to try to diminish it. Why don't you just use like a cup of coffee? Was that a bit? Do you want to look like a kind of guy who has a cup?
Starting point is 00:40:56 Wait, did Vinicia try to put more of a hint? No, because it creates more bulk everywhere. Oh, okay. Oh, you can go to. My, I had an interesting Halloween just about every year I was in college. Like I talked about making out with the Navi a couple of podcasts ago. The first, my first Halloween was good. My second Halloween was horrible in the best way ever.
Starting point is 00:41:21 Okay. It was probably the most eventful night of my life. There was romance and backstabbing and a lot and like shit loads of alcohol like really bad amount of alcohol. But we were at a party with one of my friends, a few of my friends that come in from San Antonio. I will call him Don Shout out to Don so he's real name's Dan or Don
Starting point is 00:41:52 So me my buddy me my buddy Don he he's a Really tall like Viking looking dude with like a pretty awesome beard He went as the brawny guy, so we wore a plaid outfit and he just walked around with paper towels all night. And then I came up with something of the last minute, I went to fill up Jay Fry, so I just had to go get a red jacket and then spray paint. Well, when he is, you said the brawny guy,
Starting point is 00:42:17 and I was like, oh, I could kind of see you as the brawny guy. Now, back then I didn't have a beard. And then you said, Brian, you've got that hair popping up. I'm the brawny fry. I can see Brian's well. You have the hair popping up. I'm the broughty fries. I can't even get the hair flip thing. I have the swoosh, my hair just doesn't swoosh. So yeah, I went and spilled Jay Fry. And we went there, we got hammered, we're having a good time.
Starting point is 00:42:34 I don't party a lot, I didn't go to a lot of parties. I was like, let's say you didn't play. My hearty out party. You're kind of party. That's my kind of party. So, like, till we get the blister. Oh god, fuck that dude. kind of party. That's my kind of party um so until we get the blister. Oh god fuck that dude. Is that Mario Party?
Starting point is 00:42:49 Anyway, it's the party one. Okay. So um we're out of time. It was crazy crazy shit went down. I'm out in the backyard talking with a few of my friends. I'm going back inside and that's when this girl comes out. She says guys, guys, the police are here and I froze because I'd never been to a party that had been busted by the cops before and in my mind was just say it's a ribbon to a party. I imagine every like teen movie that I had ever seen ever where it's like the fucking guys coming with German shepherds and she's like everybody's going to prison. Everybody's getting arrested and like kids are
Starting point is 00:43:24 running and jumping out of wind. Why did they sound like that? I don't know. Oh, TV movies are terrible. So my first thought was like, I stopped dead. I turned around. I was like, no, I've got to get the fuck out of here. Because I'm really drunk and I'm like, this is bad.
Starting point is 00:43:36 I can't, this can't happen. I can't be arrested. And my buddy's like, who's also drunk. He's like, that sounds like a great idea, Miles. What are we going to do? So we're looking around for like an exit in this backyard. And we noticed that if we could go up on, it was all surrounded by really tall like wooden fence.
Starting point is 00:43:50 But if we went up on like the porch, we could hop over into the neighbor's backyard. So like guys, over the fence, let's go. Me and Don, or the only people to go, all my other sober friends were like, bye. We jump over, we jump over. These two, these two other freshmen that had gone to the party
Starting point is 00:44:04 who just like were completely panicked and didn't know what to do. Like these guys seem to know their shit, so they followed us. So it was myself, my buddy down, and then this two guy, one guy who was dressed as like Buzz Lightyear and then someone who was the, who's the cowgirl from Toys 2? Uh, Jesse. Buzz Lightyear and Jesse follow us. So we jump to the neighbor's backyard. We can see all like the blue and red lights on the other side of the fence.
Starting point is 00:44:26 And we're fucking terrified. Like, okay, it's gonna be fine. We're gonna be out here. Right. It's the game point. Done. Look over the fence. Yeah, I'm in either eye.
Starting point is 00:44:35 He's like, oh, I got it. He's really tall, dude. So he goes over to fence. And he put his hands up and pulls himself just right over the edge. And then the whole thing snaps and the fence falls forward. And all these lights are just on us. I just go run! So we just start sprinting and fortunately the the the neighbors backyard was connected like all these woods and shit. So we're just sprinting through the woods. So Philip J. Fry, the brawny man,
Starting point is 00:44:56 Buzz Lightyear and Jesse the cowgirl are just hauling ass through the dark woods at night. We finally run far enough to where we think we're kind of safe. Like guys guys guys, we find I like when I get drunk and there's like, an airport serious situation, I become like alpha male, like I got this. You're like in control, my. Yeah, I become in control miles, like I'm in the zone, the really drunken and intoxicated zone.
Starting point is 00:45:16 It's like, all right guys, everything's going to be fine. Let's silence our cell phones and like the freshman we're like, this guy knows what he's doing. Older kids, yeah. Silence our cell phones and like the fresh man were like Suns our cell phones I'm like are you like six months older than these kids? Yeah, I was like six months old Shut the fuck up. This was a real life situation. Okay, lives were on the line Silence Everybody's silence is their cell phones and we went down into this riverbed that was like, dried up down in this ravine. Like, we're hiking through like continents and shit
Starting point is 00:45:49 on jungle excursion. And I'll never, ever, ever in my life forget. We're walking through, we're still all dead quiet. All you can hear are crickets. And the guy, I was helping the kid down like into the ravine. The kid, the guy just as close to like here. And he's like, he goes, hey man. I just want to say thanks man
Starting point is 00:46:05 I'm just really I can't like I have scholarships. I can't get a rest of man and I shit you know I go What's your name dude and he goes Johnny Johnny And this kid was probably like thanks dude, but in my mind I was like it's gonna be okay And like try and fit horns, we're playing and shit. And we got all out of there. We made it to some playground in the middle of butt, fuck nowhere and parted ways.
Starting point is 00:46:32 We all went home, me and Don went back to my apartment at the time. We're sitting there drunk and eating pizza, just mulling over the events of the night. And we're really concerned, we're like, man, can't believe it. We just left our friends behind. I feel really bad about this. We should call them. We should really call him. He's like, yeah, dude, yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:47 We start calling our friends like, hey, hey man, are you okay? Are you all right? My friend's like, what? Is everything okay? I know the cops tell him. Look at a whole lot of one second. I'm at the party. I'm like, what are you talking about? Yeah, I was just annoyed. It's complaining. It's totally fine. It was like, this was like five miles away. We had run out of the party through the woods. To some place we didn't know and then walked all the way back to my apartment. You broke someone's fence. I broke someone's fence because the party was out. I never even thought about that.
Starting point is 00:47:12 I was thinking of the cool thing. The person woke up the next morning came out and was like, Well, fuck. I'm not even the one who called the cops, but they're fucking fence. Like, I have more of a story. Don't call the police on a really loud party. They might not even have been the one. Yeah, otherwise your neighbor's gonna get, you know, they're gonna have like have more of a story don't call the police on a really loud party They might not even have been the one. Yeah, otherwise your neighbors gonna get you know, they're gonna have broken fences I don't know as a homeowner. That's the first thing I thought was these assholes broke your neighbor's fence who's doing nothing
Starting point is 00:47:35 Yeah, that was that was the end of a very long and interesting night, but uh, that was yeah, that's a lay like the ice That's the ice that was the icing on the cake, um, yeah, everything else I'd have to be way more Don't talk about oh Buzz Lightyear If only Don was here I'm gonna put my finger in the house. It's gonna keep me clean up. Oh my god, the beer burns my neck. I'm gonna put my finger in the house. God damn it, this fucking hit you. This is the second time you can fuck with me today.
Starting point is 00:48:14 I'm out there. I used to do this thing a lot where I would wait behind, you know, here at the annex, there's a very heavily tinted window on the door. So you can see when people are coming from the main studio over, so I like to wait behind it. And then when they open the door, I like jump out and scare them. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:48:30 We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of fun. Now it's my father. He's like, he's on the way. For the extra minute. And he comes over by like, Miles is like super happy.
Starting point is 00:48:46 Dude, like, the leader of the Capitol walk. And then he gets to the door and I just go, raw, I'm like, what the fuck? And he like slammed the door into his leg and... Dude, no, my watch is really like loose. And I jump back so far that the watch flew forward on my hand. It bruised the top of my hand because I lurched back so quickly. Wow. You injured nothing at school. lurched back to the floor. Wow.
Starting point is 00:49:05 You injured nothing at school. You injured himself. You need to calm down. That's what it is. Where's the wisdom? I'm fine. Okay. Everybody's fine.
Starting point is 00:49:13 Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone.
Starting point is 00:49:21 Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. When you're running away from the cops, let me remind you everyone that this podcast is brought to you by audible.com. The internet's leading provider of audiobooks with more than 100,000 downloadable titles across all types of literature and featuring audio versions of many New York times in the cellars. For our listeners, audible is offering a free audio book to give you a chance to try out their service.
Starting point is 00:49:37 One audiobook to consider is The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. So for a free audiobook of your choice, go to audiblepodcast.com slash roostert. That's audiblepodcast.com slash roostert. I figured with the Hobbit movie coming out next month, you know, people may have not read the the book in a long time. It's an easy way to get a free audiobook and just listen to it and get a refresher ahead of the movie. What's the same thing? So is I think it's the same thing. I listen to audiobooks very frequently since I live in the middle of Austin and like driving down here is like half an hour each way.
Starting point is 00:50:13 So you can get through them pretty quickly. I listen to audiobooks too. Like I used to read all the Halo books, which is great, but working more and having less time. I think what was the one, was it first contact? The one that was about Sergeant Johnson? Yes. I got the audio book for that and it was great. Having this guy read this tough army book. I'll put until it got to the sex scene. That's really awkward. And it's just this guy reading a sex scene to me. It was just like weird. I know what you
Starting point is 00:50:43 mean. I got the when the Watchmen movie came out. You mean, Chase of Grey? iTunes had a sale on the motion comics for the Watchmen. So I bought that, I was like, oh yeah, I'd never seen it. It's really good. But yeah, no, the same thing, it's read by an old guy, and it works for all like the worst shagging, I like that.
Starting point is 00:50:59 But then when you get to the female characters, it's like, and then she came in with her breasts all out there and shit and then she was like Mr. Watch me and he's he and I love it sounds like it came in with her breasts all out there and shit I am not the most eloquent speaker okay you're riding you right you're right so Ruby comes out and there's all these wolves and shit I'm like her book you will her Breast all the time No, but that's how that's what it felt like listening to it was just like creepy old dude talking about like superheroes fucking it was really weird man
Starting point is 00:51:33 Yeah, how much are we allowed to reveal that really? Oh? In terms of people involved Let's see what you know I mean these names on the we have names on the credits. Go read it. We'll put the trailer out individually so you can investigate it for. Yes. There's stuff there to read into. I think we're going to be putting it up right after the podcast.
Starting point is 00:51:56 Oh, I think we'll put it up tomorrow morning. Okay, never mind tomorrow morning. Yeah. We'll see. This morning. It's pretty exciting. I can I can gauge the amount of excitement people have about this. I've wanted to write a cartoon series since I was like this tall.
Starting point is 00:52:10 I'm pretty stoked. I mean, given my work, I can answer that question here now. People have been for years asking me for the new Dead Fantasy. I'm so busy with RVB. And mind you, I really like working on Dead Fantasy, I'm so busy with RVB. And you know, mind you, I really like working on Dead Fantasy, but that's like, I got a job to do, and you know, there's things on the side. Now I get this show that I actually get to be like to govern the whole part of, and one of the things, story-wise, not just applies to me, I think it just applies
Starting point is 00:52:39 to art in general. You know, I say this, and I say this, and I even say this when I'm writing the script, and I'm writing about it. I even have these dissertations I write, describing it to other employees, is that the right to do something original might be something like a right you earn. I mean, if you look at us, we piggyback on Halo for 10 years now. And a great 10 years. Just saying. A great 10 years.
Starting point is 00:53:04 But at the same time, it's like, we owe a lot of years. Just saying. A great 10 years. But at the same time, it's like, we owe a lot of our success to Halo and it's great. And I think after 10 years, we've earned the right to do something original. After seven years of busting my ass, working and working, working. I think I've earned the right to do an original project too. Or the record. I'm going to set you straight here, Monti. We have our own original
Starting point is 00:53:25 story. Yeah, yeah, and we've made our own original products, including but not limited to Ritualke Shores. Okay, okay, so just three years, I spent. Monty is breaking you ground with our first original. Three years was shit, but now we got going on. Three years, I busted my ass on Red versus Blue, 8, 9, and 10. Earned me the right to work on Ruby. I, that's the part I'm grateful for. I just, when I came to work on, I love RVB. I've been a fan since season one.
Starting point is 00:54:00 I like, I've watched the show like hundreds of times. There's a point. No, I could, no, I, I could watch the show and just quote times at this point you know I could you know I can watch the show and just quote people Always have it on I always have it on because I believe in knowing your product, you know and like Diving into the show and knowing it as much as I do kind of earned me the right in Bernie's eyes to for him to say Work on whatever you want. Cool. You know, that's great. I burn Bernie's great for that. Are you gonna watch the Red versus blue blue race? I have to feed like you did with Avatar. I already, I've already watched the blue race over commentary
Starting point is 00:54:33 several times and the special features and the and the behind the scenes. This is pretty cool. I love behind the scene. It's, it's, it's, I always find it's like super meta to watch behind the scenes, featureettes or to listen to commentaries that we've participated in. It feels really weird. It does feel weird. I almost, like, it's like borderline, like, you know?
Starting point is 00:54:52 It's like, oh, it's so insightful. Who was that? Oh, that was me. But I do like hearing, like, it was, what, me, Miles, Carrie, Kathleen, Bernie, Matt on the commentary. I do like hearing the stuff Kathleen, Bernie, Matt on the commentary. I do like hearing the stuff that they have to say. Me, I'm very bad at coming up with words on the fly. I'm not good at the word.
Starting point is 00:55:14 I have to accelerate into words. I don't come up with stuff fast like that. Just kind of coast into them. Demonstrated. Right now. Speaking of coasted into them. Demonstrated. Right now. Speaking of behind the scenes stuff, I think it wasn't there behind the scenes feature that was released today for Red vs. Blue, the storyboarding and visuals and stuff. Entertainment Weekly.
Starting point is 00:55:34 They just released an article about DC's and Tend DVD and also they released an exclusive clip from the behind the scenes that we have on the DVD. Makeup. So cool. Do you need to introduce Bill de Badas? And then today also the final part of that we have on the DVD. Makeup, so cool. Do you need to introduce Bill Madass? And then today also the final part of that info knot. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:50 Documentary team match. Yeah, it starts off great. It starts off with the thing that really pissed you off. What, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what. And I saw them. And I for I don't know why, but I saw miles being trying to be very common, fresh, well, front of the camera, I walked over and I ran my room along the table and I knocked all of the controllers off on the ground. And my papers and his paper everything I said, pick it up.
Starting point is 00:56:17 And I walked away. I want you to know they've been there all week. And I've been gone. I've been doing stuff at at a for like, Halo 4 filming and stuff like that. So I hadn't had a chance, I had had like zero time to talk to the film crew. And then finally, I'm like, this last day they were there, they're like, hey, we should talk to this guy. We haven't talked to him yet. They come out to me, and I have been talking for maybe 30 seconds.
Starting point is 00:56:40 And then I locked eyes with you. And there was just a moment where I know he's gonna come over here Son of a bitch is gonna walk over here and fuck up my one and then before I can even finish it you're just like It's the very first shot So mad and then they're like oh, let's follow guess for the rest of the day I tried to leave so you can get back to you, but no, you're right. They followed me.
Starting point is 00:57:09 They're like, oh, this guy's way more entertaining. I'm just like, it's all like, oh. Oh my god. I had a different theory whenever a camera was around me. I felt the need to always do something like really stupid or really just like unnecessary. Oh, they're always cameras around you? When there was for the fucking.
Starting point is 00:57:24 Fucking got me. Anyways, so there's one shot... How's that a photo? He's implying that I'm always doing something stupid. Oh, I just... I just thought it was... Oh, that's funny. I think you're...
Starting point is 00:57:36 I guess that's funny. Got me? I would say that it's because Barbara's... Anyways, I would say because that's Barbara's pretty, you know. Oh... Stupid. Ting! Where's the like little sparkly tooth effect? I would say that it's because Barbara. Anyways, I would say because that's Barbara's pretty, you know. Oh. That's it. Where's the like little sparkly tooth of that guy you can add into the camera? That's in the next driver room.
Starting point is 00:57:53 And we can add teeth sparkle on the fly. But yeah, that documentary was actually really fun when they were here. Yeah, they seem really nice. I wish I had more time. They seem cool. Yeah, I love the ending though. Oh, yeah, that was weird. I'm going to Joe. Wait, I haven't had more time. Nice and cool. Yeah, I love the ending though. When you're sitting on the... Oh, yeah, that was weird, huh? I'm gonna joke.
Starting point is 00:58:07 Wait, I haven't seen it yet. I'm spoiler alert. And that's, it's not what I'm gonna spoil anything that happens. I was there for like, filming of it too, because I was at, I was up in New York, Comic-Con, up in the North.
Starting point is 00:58:17 They interviewed you there at New York too. They interviewed at New York, New York Comic-Con. Yeah, how was shot? I like how you're complaining. You had a giant section dedicated to you in the second episode. I know it was weird. The episode, it was like, You had a giant section dedicated to you in the second episode. I know it was weird.
Starting point is 00:58:25 The episode was like the bounties episode. And the end of the first episode. Yeah. When you like walk into the room and your arms are open air. And that's when we decided to hide in the deep. Oh, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, it's like, stop. When we were filming the gaulet, people were like, hey, I saw that part one of the info
Starting point is 00:58:38 not think, who's that guy at the end? I want to learn more about him. I was like, you'll see more than accept the film. They made it look like every time they enter a room, like doves just burst out and you walk into a motion sheet. The filming of that, you know how they filmed me in front of that crowd in New York, Comic Con?
Starting point is 00:58:51 Yeah. It looked weird. Like it was green screen, because I swear. Wait, what? Didn't it look like I wasn't there? No, it's home, but like you were there. We weren't really there. I never went to New York.
Starting point is 00:59:00 I thought you were there. I was there. We say it looks green. Because I mean We're filming they sometimes I see people that it's the real and it's not and it looks like they've been green screened The sleep more Sometimes I see there's an over there and there's a video If you don't know if you're looking up on YouTube, I think it's called virtual back lot
Starting point is 00:59:18 It's a company that all the green screen. Yeah, that's awesome. They show all of their different work that all the green screen yeah that's awesome they show all of their different work uh in uh in green screening and you never would know that's something with green screen if they didn't show you like the before and after it's the it's the the best uh it's not a long I don't remember where it starts the best special effects are the ones you don't see that's that's the reason oh no I know I put that wrong thing no no that no, no, that was it. It was that real 2009. You're so bad at this. I'm bad at this, I'm not jacked. It's not like we'd be so tired.
Starting point is 00:59:50 Get that out from the screen. Yeah, you can make it full screen, it's going a little bit, that'd be great. So like, I mean, we don't have to show it kind of it, but it's just an example of what is green screen and what isn't. And you never would realize it. Like, it's just a TV show.
Starting point is 01:00:04 You think, oh, that's sampling to shoot that into the exterior Oh my god What's okay? We can see you don't have to Play my play a part of it is part of it isn't even for effect It's just for like the logistics of shooting. Yeah, like sometimes they're just removing you know Our great internet here. I love this Sometimes it's just like oh you want to remove wires or something.
Starting point is 01:00:27 Or maybe maybe the call for a certain actor was at a different time than another actor. Uh-huh. Things like that. I would have to keep playing this. It's obviously. Well, it's ugly Betty. Not going to work.
Starting point is 01:00:37 We'll link it in the link down. So you can watch it on your own. Yeah, it's really cool. It also seems a bit like they couldn't get I guess enough people to cooperate to get a scene going. What's like mine was saying if you will have different call times. Yeah but just like I mean extras and city scenes and stuff like that. It just seems like overkill. Like normally people associate you know green screening you you got to put a big like robot in the back. I would think it would stop playing crap.
Starting point is 01:01:06 Yeah, but the truth is, it's like when you work with shooting, it's like, you know, some people are called at 5am. Some people are called at 11am. That's like a math difference. I don't math. That's the math difference. I don't math and I don't words. So, you know, the old Asian. We didn't do any green screen for it, but the first episode of the gauntlet came out last week.
Starting point is 01:01:26 Yes. We had the second episode coming out this week. Yes. It was just the auditions episode. Yeah. I thought it was really, really good. Were you in that? I wish that the episode was longer.
Starting point is 01:01:34 I made it at the very end. I think it's like, I mean, like the teaser for the upcoming season. Next time, I'll let you know. We start getting into the meat of it in the next couple of minutes. Yeah, it gets really good. This was just the interrupt, which I mean, people loved it. It was really, really, really good start. I got to say something.
Starting point is 01:01:50 Like, I was gone for most of the gauntlet stuff. And when I heard that we were going to be doing this gaming show thing, I was like, OK, like, honestly, I did not feel like I'm not a big reality TV guy. Like, I just, I don't know. I can't, I cannot watch American Idol editions without feeling like super uncomfortable. Like, I could not watch, Idol auditions without feeling like people uncomfortable like I could not watch like Doug or Boy Me Sword or any
Starting point is 01:02:08 sitcom that has like awkward situations. Boy Me Sword? I couldn't. I couldn't. Dude, that's the best show. It's not even a reality show. No, no, no. I can't watch any sort of sitcom that has like, oh, oh, I can't watch a not-sign felt the Caribbean theme. Yeah, yeah. You cannot watch Caribbean themes. So you're comparing, you're Kirby enthusiasm and boy meets world of the same show? No, I'm just saying I can't watch on situations.
Starting point is 01:02:30 Like, if somebody would have come in and do an audition and it didn't go well and it was just kind of awkward, like some people were like, oh, that was really funny. And I'm just like, that poor, poor person. So laughing. Like on American Idol. Yeah, like, no, I can't watch that. That's what they're known for.
Starting point is 01:02:43 I was like, I love the auditions. I'm like, I'm not going to, don't turn on the TV. I think, like, no, I can't watch that. That's what they're known for. I was like, I love the auditions. I'm not gonna, don't turn on the TV. I think, like, thing about this was like, I only was there for like maybe two days of the shooting, but the thing, I think the best thing to take about this is that it's legit, like, preserving the integrity of the competition was the most important thing.
Starting point is 01:03:01 Yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah, we were very thorough about that. I don't wanna give too much advice. I don't wanna talk about it. Yeah, we were very thorough about that. I don't want to give too much advice. I don't want to talk about it. We were very thorough to make sure that everything was genuine and that it really happened. Like, yes, there's character stuff on top of that, but it was a real tense competition.
Starting point is 01:03:16 Like, down to this, like, who's going to win? You like, down to it? There are moments where you can see people, like, it's genuine. It's like crying or on the verge of tears, you know, I mean, it's genuine, it's like crying, we're on the verge of tears, from the stress and how intense it gets. Since I've been back, I've been placed
Starting point is 01:03:30 on the editorial team for the show, and I spent so much time looking through the footage yesterday and today, and I'm now, I was a little concerned, I will be honest, but now I'm really looking forward to the next few episodes. I mean, she could say it. It was a difficult shoot. Oh my goodness.
Starting point is 01:03:46 It was a long days. Yeah. We were super early call times. Yeah. It was super professional though. I'm really excited because I have no idea what's going to happen. I didn't know. It was the same for RVV where I wasn't involved with any of the writing or the editing.
Starting point is 01:03:58 I had no idea what was happening for Red versus Blue. So I was just like, everyone else waiting for each Monday at 7 o'clock. I'm like, oh, wonder what's going to happen this week. And everyone would ask me questions like, you know who this blue freelancer is? I'm like, I honestly could tell you I don't know. I'm waiting anxiously just like everyone else. You're going to answer it. You're going to snooping around on the network.
Starting point is 01:04:19 People's computers. I did not. I didn't read the scripture anything. I was good. Well paved. Thank you. Proud of you. Thank you. I was good. Well paved. Yeah, proud of you. Thanks. Okay.
Starting point is 01:04:29 How do you? I'm proud of you. So you've only got to play the first level of Halo 4. Yes, sorry. We got to be waiting for this fucking podcast. We have a really talk about Halo 4. Oh my god. I'm going to play it so much.
Starting point is 01:04:40 So there are two. There are only a few games. Like, I don't. You got Monti. I don't fucking. I don't have time. Like, I work so much. But I're like only a few games, like I don't... You got Montyd. I don't fucking... I don't have time. I work so much, but I make time for a few games. I make time for Halo, I make time for Ninja Gaiden,
Starting point is 01:04:52 I make time for like Final Fantasy, I start now. But Halo, I make time. I don't know if I can make time for it. I was watching Gus play, I was like, oh, it's all good. It's, I've gotten, I think I'm probably where I like three levels in. I'm not gonna talk anything about the campaign, but it feels so much like the first Halo to me. Because a lot of the later Halo games, you're with like a squad, it's very military, it's very like,
Starting point is 01:05:17 all right Bravo, you go Charlie and then we're gonna Fox, Trot and Oscar Mike. And this one's like, but, but this one like, it's like, you know, the very first Halo where, you know, you crash, there's an alien world, I want to myself, what is going on? What's that? Who are those? Why are they shooting at me? I mean, I can agree with that, but I feel like the opening cinematic set a different tone
Starting point is 01:05:37 though. Oh, absolutely. The opening cinematic definitely showed Martins as squads. Yeah. And, you know, how they operated in battle. Well, show them as people. Oh, I want to know how they operated in battle. Well, show them his people. I want to know because I love the books.
Starting point is 01:05:48 I don't want to see more of this stuff actually. They didn't show very much of it, but there is some. I will say this because it's in like the first 30 seconds of the game in the opening cut scene. A question that is raised in the very beginning is, did John the master chief succeed because at his core, he was broken. He was a kid that was kidnapped and turned into a sociopathic killing machine that is just designed to kill. Is that the reason we're alive is because we gave this crazy dude that strong of gun.
Starting point is 01:06:16 And it's like the strong of a game. Well, that's the allegation. Yeah, no, that's the question that's posed, these are people that have turned into mass murderers. That's what they are. They're heroes, but they're mass murder in the name of, you know, Warren's, but originally the Spartans were developed to crush and human interaction. Yeah. The interaction, which is also talked about in the very-
Starting point is 01:06:37 I can't prop up in the very- In Fort Inodon as well. Yeah, in Inodon. But they do mention it in the opening of the- I can't say- I can't say- It's a bold question to start off with is like, hey, the our poster boy of Xbox is he just awesome because he's a crazy killing machine.
Starting point is 01:06:50 Like that's a big question. Ask it. I love that. It's awesome. No, like three for three's done a really bad astro. Oh, yeah, it's hot off to you. It's amazing. And the reviews are really good. Yeah. So far for it, I can't wait to get a chance to play some more. It's like last night, you know, went to the launch, and he came out, I was so tired, I went to bed, had to work today, had to stay late, we were doing the podcast, I might get to play
Starting point is 01:07:11 a little bit tonight, fingers crossed, you know, I'm hoping to speak some time to get to play it. What blows my mind is that last night, we were so tired after the launch, we were there until like one or two o'clock in the morning, and Gavin was there as well, and he went home with two copies of the game with Jeff. And I woke up this morning and on YouTube,
Starting point is 01:07:29 I think there was three Halo videos that we had put out. Yeah. And I was like, in my mind, I was like, I was so fucking tired last night. How did they manage to film, edit voice over three videos for Halo? They came in pretty tired this morning.
Starting point is 01:07:44 As much, yeah, Jeff was saying that it was like, it just like drew him in right away. He said it was one of the best Halo. We make fun of Gav a lot. Everybody makes fun of Gav a lot, but that dude is a fucking awesome. I just have to say it, let it be known. Gav is awesome.
Starting point is 01:07:59 Jeff's okay. I like Gav and, hey, it's in some here. The second half of the Gav and Gavin boner story, you know, I'm dancing. Which was a recent anime to adventure? Recent anime to adventure, whereas like I'm dancing in Gavin's like, if I had a boner for you, it's really trying right now. So like, it needs you to do it.
Starting point is 01:08:16 And I said the Gavin, Gavin, I will work on it. So like, and like someday I will achieve Gavin boner somehow. Oh, Jesus Christ. So like and then like someday I will achieve Gavin boner somehow And now we're back on Gavin's day. No, I'm going to okay I had to say the thing I like both I think one of the things I like most about this Halo game And Gavin doesn't remember Mother fucker mother. He's sometimes ever any of it. Just keep going okay I'm talking about the game. He doesn't remember any of it. Just keep going.
Starting point is 01:08:43 Okay. So in every Halo game, there is like the primary weapon. And comment evolved it was the Soul Rifle. Halo 2 was the Battle Rifle. And comment evolved it was the Magno. Let me rephrase that. There's like your two weapons that you always have. Okay.
Starting point is 01:08:59 Yeah, Magnum's the shit. Yeah. And then Halo 2 and 3 was the Battle Rifle,, Halo three battle rifle, we're covering in carbine. Um, but in this one, like, they give you all three, because most of the time, like whenever I would play matchmaking on the other games, I would maybe I'd probably get rid of my sidearm, get like a rocket launcher, sniper, some like that, but I would always have my battle rifle always. And now it's like, okay, I can always have my battle rifle or always have my DMR or always have the, I don know. I just like that it gives you essentially all of the basic weapons
Starting point is 01:09:28 So all the Halo in this first level and this again, this is all I've played of Halo 4 is that first level Yeah, the first level they do something which I thought was super effective where for most effective It's super effective for most of the, you only get very limited ammo for even as you get it. So you're forced to begin experimenting immediately. Yeah, you're like, I don't know what this gun is, but I've got zero bullets. I'm gonna pick it up. Yeah. So for someone who has not played a Halo game before, it's a very quick, this is this gun, this is this gun, this is this gun. Yeah, you get to say it. I never thought of it that way. I just got really pissed off and I kept running out of ammo. And then towards the end of the level, you finally find like a cache where you can reload all of your human weapons. Yeah, yeah, so but up until that point they want you to
Starting point is 01:10:08 see that. That was all about that. That was probably like months upon that. That's well done. Yeah, it's it's all though. It's super perfect. I will I will say you're on a spaceship. There's parts where there's no gravity. It's the end of Haylon. I got I got to I there's there's there's several sections where there's no gravity in the first level Thanks, Gab Bob's gap. I'm sitting in a seat Okay, okay, okay, but there's a part where you go out like you're in space and everything's all floating It's really cool like if you reload you'll see like your empty can everything's all floating stuff Oh
Starting point is 01:10:42 Space tips are interface and stuff. Oh, space tits are intermased. Tays. But no, every time I really get a great broth, what do you mean? Would you? I zero jeans for your double D. Yeah, fucking HG. It's true, right? What you would. What did you? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:01 Why are you asking me that? I would just do anyway, go. So if a guy has a really like long shot in face, wait, what did you, man? I would have to see you. Anyway, go ahead and get the whole word. So if a guy hasn't really like long-shot or take that in space. Wait, what did you just say? I think your underwear keeps that in the girl. OK, long-shot. Well, the cool thing about that, going back to Halo,
Starting point is 01:11:14 the cool thing about that low-gravity environment you're talking about is when you do kill an enemy, they don't follow the ground. They kind of like fill to the side and float a little bit. So you're not sure you're like, did I kill that guy already? Is he dead and kind of propped up? Do they ever think they're dead and they're not? I did. I did encounter one weird thing on the level. It happens in a lot of games. There's a dead body, it goes ragged off, but then it just collides with something in the environment and they just disagree. I was just running by this
Starting point is 01:11:46 dead corpse and it was just slowly sliding and hit it rock and it just jumped like five feet in the air. I wish I had been captured. So the week. Yeah, exactly. I think I switched to Halo 4 for horse and stuff like that. I don't know. That's a great question. That is a great question. You're welcome internet. We had some from Achievement Hunter on tonight. They were all too exhausted Unfortunately after staying up all night But what I was in that zero G area every time I would switch out a weapon like be like oh, hey, what's that thing? Oh, that's really cool. No, I think I like that other gun and I would turn around my guns like 20 feet in the air
Starting point is 01:12:16 And it's just floating away. I lost so much fucking ammo I just had to run around punching covenant in the face and then running and hiding and letting my shields recharge It's fun. Yeah, I died a lot. Yeah, I was was funny. You say that I had the exact same experience where I swapped weapons I was like no, no, I had more ammo and the other one oh shit It seems a little more it seems a little more difficult. I'm just playing a normal just because I want to I just want to Briece to the story real quick. Were you the one who's comparing this to Halo one? Yeah, or is that oh? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Halo I feel like in terms of pacing of the levels. Both this will so far. This one's being kind of like that, but Halo reach also. If you look at the level structure of Halo reach, it is super similar to the very first one. Like there's your
Starting point is 01:12:58 Obviously just first level here's the enemy. This is what's going on. We're being attacked by coming in. Oh my gosh. What's going on? And then the second level was what's going on, we're being attacked by a covenant. Oh my gosh, what's going on. And then the second level was really big, open driving around. Or none of that was a, first, okay. Anyways, what makes me think of is just like the sniper level and Halo Reach and the sniper level and Halo 1 are just super and yeah, truth and reconciliation, which is like the best that in the control room, like my favorite,
Starting point is 01:13:21 the Halo 1. And then yeah, the sniper level and Halo Reach. And this one's just, yeah, it's following like a similar pacing, like you get in a warhog and you're, anyways, I don't wanna go too much into it. I don't wanna accidentally spoil anything for, any crazy people that haven't gotten the game yet, but. Yep.
Starting point is 01:13:34 That's good. That's it, that's it, that's it. It's good, yeah. With some Halo 4 in the last episode of Red Mercy Blue. Yes. And it was the blood Gulch. Yeah, it was, it's a map called exile. It's not exactly the same as blood
Starting point is 01:13:45 gulps, but it looks so much like an updated blood gulps. It's Carolina. They thugs are bug. She says thugs. Some low-level thugs. No, she says thugs. You were like, I think she says bugs. Oh, yeah, fucking incominant. Yeah, we're gonna find coming out. No, yes. Long date between you two yes long long debate long time uh... but no you get into the new city hall of war like working on the
Starting point is 01:14:11 i'm sorry but i was just like the cool shit ever like i remember when i got the new isn't you have worked at work very long that the first uh... developer event that was awesome like i remember when i got the limited edition of halo two and came with that bonus yes you'd be like,
Starting point is 01:14:25 this is Bungie Studios, this is what it's like to make a video game. Wow, those guys are awesome. Those guys are awesome. If you get the... The limited edition. I want it. You have to start looking for it right now. Yeah, if you don't have it already.
Starting point is 01:14:37 Why not? It's sold out most places. Uh-oh. Yeah. But it was so weird, like, being at certain affinity and like it looked like the documentary I had watched why when I watched the Halo 2 documentary it was so fucking cool growing up The big boy now I have a big announcement. Certain affinity is a local developer here in Austin who we've worked with and who were at RTX
Starting point is 01:15:01 They made the multiplayer with 3434 Halo 4. Yeah. Awesome. They were all really they were super awesome. They let us come and hang out a lot and They invited us to a few parties. Teenage Mutant Turtle parties. They certainly did. They are really cool. They're really cool. Um They were a launch party last night. Yeah, it's it's it's hail of four is gonna be Interstate like we've done several PSAs and stuff. There's a few things that are that make it tricky for machinima. Overall, like it looked like the environment's blown me away. But there are a few things like the major thing is now you can no longer, for machinima versus,
Starting point is 01:15:37 first off the button combination, super easy. It's down on the D-pad, X, A, and B. And I think that's it. I don't think it's the right, the bumpers this time. It used to be like everybody in the office. Yeah, you press it on the stick. But now it's like it's super simple. The only thing I've noticed though is you can no longer walk with your gun down if you As soon as you start moving the gun comes up. So that'll be interesting to kind of work around. But that's like that's my problem. Everything else is fucking awesome.
Starting point is 01:16:05 Anytime we get a new revision, like there's a new game we want to do, Shenaman, there's always a learning period where you're like, okay, these are the things that are different. These are new constraints, but these are the new things that have opened up for us. What was the worst game season? I'm not going to answer that.
Starting point is 01:16:19 I don't know why you even asked that question. The worst game, but the hardest. You mentioned it in commentary. I don't know. What was, one that was difficult was the first one. It was, I think the reach was kind of, I could say a difficult one to do. Mission in my end was definitely for the stranger
Starting point is 01:16:35 who had been doing. I was going to say, since then, I should, yeah, I do. Because we didn't have crazy talk at the time. So lip sync was extremely difficult. So we would just end up recording close-ups of Sims for hours and be like, oh, that lip movement, that was kind of close. And then try to get it to match up. Like now we have tools like crazy talk where you can do, you know, mouth movements and you can manipulate all of that stuff. After the
Starting point is 01:16:58 fact, we're back then you have it. You guys have mentioned on the commentary that like the churning, the change from churning in Halo one to Halo two because they actually churned first then churned your legs. Whereas in Halo one, it's just right. You know, that's probably a very big adjustment. Plus also we were starting out back then like we didn't know as much. Like also we had developed a lot of like weird quirky techniques for filming in Halo one that we're bad to begin with. Like one of the things that we should do in Halo 1 that we couldn't do after that, thank God, we used to call it totem pole.
Starting point is 01:17:28 Yeah, if you wanted a shot from a pie, what you would do is you get your cameraman, then you'd make him jump and you put someone else under him. Then if you wanted an even higher shot, you'd make both those characters jump and get a third character under him. And you would keep doing this over and over You could theoretically get a 15 person high shot with one person in it. Right. No, because you have to be 14 person high because one's the cameraman and then one's the actor. So that's what we call it, totem pulling for obvious reasons.
Starting point is 01:18:05 It's stuff we could never get more than, I want to say war character. Day one getting Halo 2, I was so worried for you guys. So the first thing I did getting the game was went in and pointed the camera straight down. I'm like, can they headbop? They can't headbop. Well, it's going to get reversed.
Starting point is 01:18:20 I was going to get burned. Yeah, I thought you guys were boned, but it's like that feature they put in to be able to put the guns down was something deliberate and that's like I One of the one of the animators who worked on Halo 2 is named with Nathan Walpole He I don't know if it's true or not to this day He claims he's the person who created that animation in Halo 2 where they go from the guns up to the guns at rest So every time I see him the first thing goes hey you're welcome
Starting point is 01:18:43 to the guns at rest. So every time I see him, the first thing you go, say, you're welcome. Every time. Every time. Every time. I was like, I did that. I made that. The hardest thing that we had to do, machinimal wise, for season 10, was Kyle and I shot a lot of the later episodes in Valhalla together. No gravity team has been so hard. Dude, the episode, Spoilay Alert alert where the UNSC pilots show up to arrest the reds and blues in Valhalla in those Falcons you're only allowed to So Falcons are Hornets Hornets Falcons are in Halo Beach. Thank you. You're only allowed two Hornets on Valhalla We needed three Hornets in order to get everybody out of Valhalla. And you can't have a word. Yeah, so involved compositing, it also involved, we had set up a temporary machinimistation in the studio downstairs.
Starting point is 01:19:33 So there were a total of one, two, three, there was eight Xboxes, Kyle was in the studio, I was upstairs, we had each other on speaker phone and I was saying, okay, you needed, because we had to choreograph the, you wanna see pilots on the ground. We had to have the camera, and we had to have a pilot,
Starting point is 01:19:57 and then a second pilot come in. They had one had to do like a spin. It was essentially us shouting over speaker phone, picking up and then just dropping controllers all the place. And it took us like 27 takes to do one shot, which was Carrie Shaw, saying, motherfucker's, and then a like a Falcon flying over head and gonna be saying,
Starting point is 01:20:21 sorry people, we stole these blades from. I don't know if you remember the opening scene in reconstruction. The like the 50 person shot. Right. Where all camera times. I always want to ask you guys. And there's all those scorpions and warheads going around and people. Well composite wise, if you the same camera motion is easy because you just do the same camera
Starting point is 01:20:39 motion, you just don't move it. They just had the reposition everything. That's what we did. We shot that. And I learned almost just by the end of the conversation. And who are the guysosition everything. That's what we did. We shot that. And I learned all this just by the caulk in times. Who are the guys you got to come in and help? We got a smooth few films,
Starting point is 01:20:49 who they make a machine them down in Houston. And one of those guys Eddie Rivers, who did some writing work on a scene for Red versus Luke. Shout out to Eddie. The opening, one of the opening first shots of the best RVB DVD ever of all time is a shot of a big audience at the Red versus Blue Awards on and we shot it on construct I think it's construct a big waterfall level in Halo 3 and
Starting point is 01:21:15 That took Brandon and I over an hour to do because we could we only had like Eight or so players available to us, but we had to fill up a Auditorium's worth How did you machine a mate the malfunctioning text? Oh shit. Yeah, I have a picture. I'll put in the link up So at the end again, if you said it make sure you send us that fucking picture Episode 21 episode 21 It's all sponsors, right? So okay, the 21 everyone's seen 21 episode 21 is the epic army of Texas. It's the episode true colors. I can love the name of that episode. And after church goes and talks to like splits up and all the different church fragments and talks to all the text robots. There's a shot after he comes out
Starting point is 01:21:58 of her discussion his discussion with her where there's all these text bots that are like shutting down and then they eventually fall. That was all of the xboxes that we had all on text except for like I think no I think they were all text. I changed every character to look like tags and I put all the controllers next to each other and all I had was a Halo 3 ODST box and a Tupperware lid to like a like a deviled eggs like Tupperware holder. The very specific Tupperware holder. It was very, I don't remember. I was like, this is the perfect size. No, it was really big.
Starting point is 01:22:32 It was really big. So it was perfect. And what I did was I laid them on top of all the joysticks. And I had one of our editors, Ben, come over and I was like, okay, I'm going to make them shut down and I'll go kick her her And then I need you to turn off all but the director xboxes so then they'll all die at the same time on my mark. We only have one shot at this and I took the box and the top where I just started shaking him back and forth and it moved all it moved all the joysticks at the same time
Starting point is 01:23:01 And like all the the controllers were going everywhere and when they started falling Out the table I go no no no no And he just all up and they all went black and it was just black. We're saying I thought I'd like fuck the game up or something And it looked really odd, but then I thought that was animation. No That was me going kill it kill it now And then you ate devil digs Celebrate that is an amazing, like creative, a bit of a way to do.
Starting point is 01:23:26 It was just me and like three other people, and the other people that were there were like you and Carrie who were working yourselves to death on animation. I can't believe that so few of you worked on that voting musical PSA. Yeah. Because there were so many choreographed moments that tied in with the music.
Starting point is 01:23:43 We shot that in two days. And that's the version that we put up in the shortened version. I don't know if whoever showed like a director's cut. I know we're going to have, I think we're going to have the voting song on a future CD or soundtrack. And it's way longer and you... I never want to say electoral college again. About the electoral college. I know because I set the way I would say like... You said about the electoral college again. About the electoral college. I know, because I said the way I would say like,
Starting point is 01:24:06 you said about the electoral college. I would say like the electoral college. And it would not say the electoral. So it was weird to me. It's not a way I say a word. You're not saying it is. I'm going to say it. I'm going to say it.
Starting point is 01:24:17 You got out of tune a little bit on, don't you pay attention to the midterm campaign is a line that's in the long version of the song and It sounds like Kermit the frog What's funny? It got cut right but Jeff will he was called me we had to do some pickups and re-record some stuff because the auto tune made It sound terrible like I was so bad auto tune couldn't fix it and like I was so bad auto-tube couldn't fix it. You don't say.
Starting point is 01:24:43 And he was like, so Gus, my concern is, you sound kind of like Kermit the Frog right now. Oh my god. Oh my god. We need to turn the Kermit down a little bit. Oh my god, it was looking awesome. Yeah, no, that was a crazy fucking shoot. Because we had a chorus line
Starting point is 01:25:05 We had all these people raising their guns with a panning camera movement and like when each person like goes out of frame One at a time. Yeah, like going. It was it was it was an interesting two days. Is there a frog character? We can write into Ruby now We'll find only if it sings No, it doesn't talk It doesn't talk to me. It's about campaigns, and that's it. About the word for electoral. No, we had to listen to that song so many times. I could, it's forever burned into my skull.
Starting point is 01:25:33 I remember every time you asked me for help with some sort of mission in the scene, because you guys had like too many characters to do all yourselves. I was so nervous because I, I'm terrible at Halo to begin with, but manipulating the game to do what you want is even scary for me. You're good. So like having to like move a character this way and then this way when you're not actually like looking at the character, I would be so nervous. I would be like, guys, I'm gonna screw up the shot. That's where we're gonna have to set up everything again. No, you're great. You did like a good handful of times to start the shot. That's where we're gonna have to set up everything again. No, you know, you're great. You did like a good handful of times throughout the season. You definitely a skill you acquire is to be able to navigate your
Starting point is 01:26:10 character from a third person perspective. Yeah. And to maintain like your reference. I play I play most games on just default like non-inverted settings. But I have to do machinima inverted because I'm used to everything being backwards. If you step to the right, you're gonna go left. If you're looking from third person and back and forth. You would work x-axis? No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 01:26:33 But I'm saying like, if you're staring at a character that's facing like, this character's facing me, if I press right on the control stick, he'll move to his right, but on camera, he goes to the left. That's what I'm saying. So in order to like match that on the Y-axis, I had to make up, go down, and down, go up when I do a machine amount. Like I cannot do like default settings
Starting point is 01:26:53 machine amount. But now it made me ambidextrous. Now if somebody hands me a controller and like, oh, so I play inverted, I'm like, it's not a fucking problem. That's the definition of ambidextrous. Whatever. I know, I know, but ambidextrous with with with with controllers. I don't think there's a word for that. I just used the ambidextrous. What? I know, I know, I know, I'm ambidextrous with controllers. I don't think there's a word for that. I just used the ambidextrous. I play inverted two. People give me so much shit for it.
Starting point is 01:27:11 I get it, too. Yeah, everybody gives me free. It's OK. No, I have a reason. Just imagine I saw someone on the back of your head. Someone's down. Someone down goes up. Yeah, someone tweeted that the other day.
Starting point is 01:27:19 They said, you know, I get it. I've heard that extra. I've had a reason for why I play inverted. It's not that one, though. It's because I grew up the first games I have a reason for why I play inverted. It's not that one though. Because I grew up the first games I ever played were airplane games. Like far fox. So when you play airplane games. The spaceship that is not an airplane.
Starting point is 01:27:35 You know what I mean? Light games. Let's call them that. Okay. So up goes down, down goes up and that's always how I played stuff. We made a PSA about this. Oh my god. It's like a long one. Do we talk about this on the podcast already, Monty? No, it's the big, that's always how I played stuff. We made a PSA about this. It's like a long one.
Starting point is 01:27:45 Do we talk about this on the podcast already, Monty? No, it's a big, that's larger than us. Also, I like how after Ruby, like the first thing he said was, I think we talked about this on the podcast already, but one time, you love people, Monty. You were supposed to be uncorruptible. That reminds me. I do get sick appearing in the same story,
Starting point is 01:28:00 but you do have to treat yourself. Speaking of a repetition. Guess what I found today. They hit it for me. They hit it for of a repetition. Yes, what I found today They hit it for me. They hit it for me in the back lot and I found it. I see it. No, I Adopted it so we're gonna be wrapping up pretty soon I've yet to see dark night. What are you serious? Go see go rent it. Go. I wish it was out. It's really good. I see it'll be out in time for the holidays a couple weeks. I have always at my desk. I don't even think I'll have time for you
Starting point is 01:28:34 Watch it when he's out. You have an Xbox at your desk I need more hand I'll probably gonna walk a watch a walk through or something. Walk a walk. Walk a rock. Walk a walk. Walk a walk. Walk a walk.
Starting point is 01:28:50 Go to pay attention to me. We're gonna wrap up now on that wonderful note. So don't forget that the Red versus Blue, season 10 DVD, Blu-ray, and 10 year box at M Blu-ray are both available in the store right now. And that's something sure. We have some new shirts. We want to give to the people.
Starting point is 01:29:11 Yes, we do want to give to the people. So thanks everyone for joining us. Now you can cut over to election coverage and find out who won and who will be leaving the... The winner is Gus, as well. ...Leaning the country. But thank you for joining us, everyone. Thanks for taking the time. And we'll be talking to you next week.
Starting point is 01:29:28 I'm gonna go play Halo 4. I'm gonna play Halo 4, too. Bye. Good evening. I'm in my heart, they discussed the fine arts They're what gas was called the drugs and drugs and drugs and drugs Describe the show to a newcomer and a more familiar way Do you like apples?
