Starting point is 00:00:00 why hello and welcome back to even more news the first and only news podcast and the last so get it while you can hi i'm katie stole. Hi Katie. This is off the rails. It's off to the races actually Yeah Boy, oh boy. We're so excited for today's guest writer Podcaster friend friend of the show. That's right. Ladies and gentlemen. It's or I'm booing Man I'm in the red already hello everybody
Starting point is 00:00:47 good to talk to you guys again and also good to see your faces yeah here we are via zoom I am excited to see you we're recording later in the day and I'm amped I'm ready to go is this later than you guys usually record are you guys morning
Starting point is 00:01:04 recorders? No. We're a 1pm recorder. Oh yeah, this is certainly. But now we have this it's the time change is what's going on right now for me personally. Silly time change. I think I'm an autumnal person. I really enjoy
Starting point is 00:01:19 fall a lot. Since my whole life. I wouldn't qualify myself as necessarily goth, but this is about as goth as I get. I like goth. This is an idea of you being anything associated with goth. Like a cozy weather, wearing a sweater. It's very goth. This is my goth.
Starting point is 00:01:38 This isn't your grandmother's goth. This is a nice, cozy mug of coffee. This is Earl Grey goth. Exactly. All right. We're going to chat a little bit more. But first off, holidays. And this one is a doozy.
Starting point is 00:01:54 November 9th is Chaos Never Dies Day. What? Quote, like a mess of wires, chaos can be sometimes hard to unravel. wires, chaos can be sometimes hard to unravel. This made-up holiday encourages people to realize that chaos is part of life and that it will never die. Stop trying to control shit,
Starting point is 00:02:12 everyone. Also, this made-up holiday, they're all made up. They're all made up. Literally all made up. Gosh darn it. This made-up holiday, unlike the other ones. Chaos never dies. This is very dark feeling. I think it's dies. This is very dark feeling. I think it's intense.
Starting point is 00:02:26 That's very goth. Yeah. Oh, yeah. It's very autumn. A very autumn holiday. Oh, I love it. This is some chai spice right here. I do like this, though.
Starting point is 00:02:37 I think it's a little, it's intense. It's an intense holiday, but it is important. Important, who cares? But, you know, they're is important. Important. Who cares? But, you know, they're not wrong. There's a lot of chaos in people's lives. And sometimes you have control over that, but it's sometimes you don't.
Starting point is 00:02:53 And not having control over everything isn't a flaw. It's not a problem, necessarily. It's something we all need to accept. You can't control everything. Yeah. So in the face of chaos, you can control how you react, but you can't necessarily control the chaos within the holiday,
Starting point is 00:03:09 which is today, and the rest of the universe, which is every day, is what I've got down on. I don't think that the person who created that holiday even had that kind of articulate idea behind it. No, absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:03:20 I think that was beautiful, Cody. Thank you so much. It really was beautiful. A little bit of science, a little bit of poetry, a little therapy, all of it. I think that was beautiful, Cody. Thank you so much. It really was beautiful. A little bit of science, a little bit of poetry, a little therapy, all of it. Exactly. Emotional. I'm just getting in that autumn goth spirit, you know? Getting into my soul a little bit.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Here's another one for you, coming in hot, November 10th, Sesame Street Day. Yes! Finally. What are you supposed to do on Sesame Street Day? Do you have other rules? Well... There are facts about Sesame Street. are oh were you not prepared for follow-up questions i mean this is to commemorate the show's premiere in 1969 here's here's some street facts street that's it means 53 seasons more than 4600 episodes longest running children's show of all time. What is this voice?
Starting point is 00:04:06 All time. All time. And of course as Jonathan has included it used to be free on PBS but since 2016 owned by HBO Max which I can now mention because the strike is over. The strike is over y'all.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Go pay for Sesame Street on Max. We've been meaning to promote Sesame Street for six months and we finally can. Finally. Oh, that dovetails nicely and saying, hi, Soren. Hi, Soren. Sorry, just like
Starting point is 00:04:37 HBO's, Max's, PBS's Sesame Street. It's just all hell. It is hell. But, Soren, you write for a TV show. I do, you write for a TV show. I do. I write for a TV show called American Dad that you can find on TBS. But also, like, it's syndicated all over the place. You find it.
Starting point is 00:04:52 If you stay in a hotel, it's probably on the television when you walk in. At least an hour block, right? Yes. Yeah. Marathons of American Dad and Family Guy are happening right now somewhere. Yes. Absolutely. All the time.
Starting point is 00:05:03 We love that for you. Thank you. For all of us. Yeah. family guy are happening right now somewhere yes absolutely all the time we love that for you thank you yeah congratulations to all the writers back to work and the actors i'm so excited to go back to not having auditions for things yeah it's wonderful now i have now there's like it's awful how long everything's been shut down, but I think a lot of us weren't working all the time anyway, and Now it's like well no wait. There's a reason we don't have auditions Also good luck next year to Speaking of American dad all the animators who may yeah on strike because their contract I think is up early next year or sometime next year I think. We're going to have to be supportive
Starting point is 00:05:50 of all of these other unions as well. Especially everyone, but I think about the members of IOTC who have all been out of work for just as long as us. Exactly, yeah. And they showed up and they supported us and we have to do the same.
Starting point is 00:06:05 We get to do the same. Yeah. I went and walked with SAG at one point and they have special signs for the Writers Guild members who are walking with SAG. Really? Oh yeah. There's a little blue stripe at the top that says like I don't actually have to be here. We actually didn't care. I'm extra kind.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Do they have special signs for directors to be like we we didn't even care enough to. We caved quickly. No. Oh, man. The DGA. They're feeling bad right now, I think. I think they could have gotten a pretty great deal.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Yeah, you'd think so. It was the time, too. Like, what if everybody who made these things kind of. Maybe it would have gone a little quicker? I don't know. Yeah, it does feel it doesn't feel it's absolutely the truth. Made a deal with the Writers Guild and writers go back to work and then they pushed it as much as they could before they needed actors on set. They fucked with us for a while longer just because, yeah, it's punishment.
Starting point is 00:07:06 while longer just because yeah it's punishment and um perhaps if the dga had been involved sooner some of this presumably they've been developing and stuff by themselves this entire time and anywho anywho congratulations and good luck billions of dollars how much money was lost i don't know a lot i'll tell you how much money was made. 30 million for scrapping this Wile E. Coyote movie with John Cena in it. Oh no. What an absurd absurd decisions from these people. That everyone apparently loves who's seen early screenings of it. It sounds great.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Was he Wile E. Coyote? It just there's no voiceover at all? I think it was like one of those like uh John Cena and then the Looney Tunes are here. So I think it was John Cena as himself but not anymore because they're not releasing it it's done good yeah no i don't who needs who needs movies it's funny because like it's right off the uh the cusp of uh like yesterday there's this quote from zaz love going around like we just can't crack like the kids the kids audience we don't have stuff for kids and it's like first of all you got rid of
Starting point is 00:08:03 cartoon network what are you talking about but then the next day they're like yeah also this looney tunes movie no we're not doing it you can't see it yeah just wait on kid shit those two quotes back to back is just uh quite something it's very funny that the ceo of the company that owns one of the most iconic animation brands and some of the most iconic animated characters ever is like, we don't know what kids want. 110 day fiance? I don't know. It's absurd. You know what's not
Starting point is 00:08:34 absurd? Ads are the news. These ads right now. Ah, yeah, we're doing ads. I don't always throw to ads, but today I did. Well, chaos never dies. Chaos never dies! Hello, world. It's Cody, your pal.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Since I switched over to a popsicle-only lifestyle, my stomach hasn't been what it used to be. A lot of colored ice coming in and out. But if you're a longtime listener, you might know I've been drinking AG1 for one to 30 years. So many or so few. When I started drinking AG1 daily, it made my tummy better. Now I can house all the popsicles I want. No one can stop me, not even the law. That's because, according to AG1, AG1 is a foundational nutrition supplement
Starting point is 00:09:19 that supports your body's universal needs like gut optimization, stress management, and immune support. Since 2010, AG1 has led the future of foundational nutrition, continuously refining their formula to create a smarter, better way to elevate your baseline health. It's also soups delish. Listen to me slop the drink into my mouth. Nom, nom, nom, nom drink into my mouth. Yum. Even my many Canadian girlfriends have started drinking AG1
Starting point is 00:09:50 and they always tell me how much energy they have and that their tum tums feel yum yums. Exact quote, don't quote me on that, but it's exact. And if you want to take ownership of your health, it starts with AG1. Try AG1 and get a free one-year supply of vitamin D3K2 and five free AG1 travel packs with your first purchase. Go to drinkag1.com slash more news. That's drinkag1.com slash more news.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Check it out. And we are back from the ads. Check it out. And we are back from the ads. So if you're a listener of this show, which I assume you are, if you're listening, you know, we've been focusing on Israel and Gaza completely for the last few weeks. And we want to talk about some other stories today because a lot's been going on. Oh, thank God. However, actually, we do have to start off. But first, playing a flag, what's your position? We're been going on. Oh, thank God. However, actually, we do have to start off.
Starting point is 00:10:48 But first, play a flag. What's your position? We're not going to. Sorry. Yeah. And why haven't you been posting? Then we can move on. Why haven't you been posting, Tori? That's a great question.
Starting point is 00:10:56 Before we get to other news, I want to talk about the censoring of Rashida Tlaib this week. Rashida, you know, the only Palestinian-American member of Congress, was censored by the House in a resolution that said she, quote, promoted false narratives regarding the October 7th, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel
Starting point is 00:11:18 and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel, which in fact she did not do. I would imagine she didn't. That sounds more right. in fact she did not do. I would imagine she didn't. That sounds more right. Yeah, she did not do that. You know, the resolution referenced a specific interpretation of the phrase from the river to the sea. I'm sure that people have heard that being shared, mentioned, talked about, debated.
Starting point is 00:11:41 We don't really need to get into that too much except to say that people use it in different ways yes i was gonna just sort of say and so i'm going to say it now uh that uh this like parsing of this phrase is such a distraction to me of like and like this weird cudgel to like distract from what's going on and you can look like people can read about what the phrase means and there are various interpretations of it and most people who use it are talking about the liberation of the palestinian people um and i would posit that she's not using it the other way but um well you can pause that i don't want to spend yeah i don't want to spend too much time on it because i do think it is like kind of this distraction of like this weird rhetorical tricks going on without.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Yeah. Instead of focusing on what is actually going on. I was just interjecting to say there's no I don't know what your exact phrasing was, but she specifically has gone out of her way to say that that's not what she means by it. She is over. She's explained herself time and again. Yeah. Oh, Rashida walking it back. It is.
Starting point is 00:12:48 I guess you could not make the argument that it is somewhat everyone's having this debate. So using it as a bit inflammatory, I guess, but not really. Not really. Especially if you keep repeatedly said, I don't want the destruction of Israel. Even if you think like that's naive and that'll never happen. And why is she suggesting that? It's bad faith to suggest that that's not what she wants, because that's what she said specifically. So, right. The worst thing you could throw at her is like you are using this phrase that has been used in this other context by other groups. And you know that and it's being inflammatory. OK. Also, a little bit.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Yeah. Everyone is out here being an expert from their homes all of us are some of us are doing our best some of us are not uh we're all learning a lot in very real time and trying to parse what's what's coming in through the news and digest it all what we so there's lots of people making claims about what this mean and trying to tell people what it means. This is a Palestinian woman. Telling you what she means. And then the rest of the world is like, liar, you actually hate Jews. Like, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Listen to this woman speak. Listen to what she's saying. Anyway, that's my point. Yeah, it's frustrating. And again, just sort of like this this sidetrack about this one person's saying. Anyway, that's my point. Yeah, it's frustrating. And again, just sort of like this, this sidetrack about this one person's rhetoric. And yeah, so it's just like a little frustrating. And I've also seen like some people post a new twist on the phrase from the river to the sea,
Starting point is 00:14:38 Israel is what you will see. First of all, that doesn't rhyme. Sea doesn't rhyme with sea. It's that's not how it works but also from the river to the sea Israel what it will be would be a rhyme that's not perfect but like it's better I'm not pitching that
Starting point is 00:14:54 I hope not but we can cut it entirely no no great suggestion get it to them they might want it we can make a lot of money tweet it now actually so like it's it's uh sort of in the same vein as what we've talked about with like this like oh you're uh by like articulating an understanding of like the dynamic and situation there you're actually
Starting point is 00:15:16 justifying the violence that hamas did and oftentimes people who accuse others of that will turn around and use the Hamas attack to justify the bombing of Palestinian civilians. So it's this again, it's a reversal. Like, wait, so you're saying you think this phrase is genocidal and means you want all these people to die, but now you're adopting
Starting point is 00:15:38 it in this cute little way and pretending that that's not what you're saying. It's just like this weird rhetorical game that like again, it's a waste of time. I'm already talking about it too much. But it's frustrating to see people like this genocidal. Actually, I'm going to use it. And now it's cute and fun for me.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Yeah, I mean, you know, there have been a lot of. Republican senators and members of Congress that I would argue are using much more overtly genocidal language and have not faced any kind of rep. Yes, explicitly, like not just like a phrase, but like literally like, yeah, we should bomb them. Lindsey Graham, we are in a religious war here. I'm with Israel. Whatever the hell you have to do to defend yourself, level the place. you have to do to defend yourself level the place uh earlier um they were uh florida state rep uh angie nixon was giving a speech and uh calling for ceasefire and she asked how many dead palestinians will be enough and another rep shouted all of them oh cool that's anyway genocidal we don't
Starting point is 00:16:36 i don't think we need to mention any more of them because it's disgusting yeah 22 democrats voted to censure her yeah it took a lot of money from AIPAC. That feels bad. Feels bad. Feels bad. Feels wrong. Feels like this won't age well. But. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:16:50 There's so many awful quotes. We're not mentioning it. We won't mention them. But, damn. We had some progressive election victories. Look at me following through on my promise to not only talk about the very grim, terrible, dark thing. We're done talking about it. We'll see how long that lasts. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:17:09 And if even we are for today. But we had some election victories and we're going to take a moment to highlight those. Yeah, Republicans have not won many elections lately. So the big ones were in Ohio. 57% of Ohioans voted
Starting point is 00:17:26 yes on a referendum to enshrine a right to an abortion in the state constitution Ohioan Ohioan Ohioans Ohioan I kind of like Ohioan sounds like is it a lion I know I kind of like it really you anyway that's what I would use you're one of them I am one I am one of them exactly sounds like someone of them Ohio losses. What do you prefer? No preference. Oh, hi.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Free country. You know, do what you want to do. Ohioers. Whatever you want. They also legalized recreational marijuana. Oh, good.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Yes, they did. Oh, yay. Am I right in believing that there were a bunch of Moms of Liberty people that all didn't get their jobs? They're like, they were all on the ballot across the country and they didn't get their jobs they're like they were all on the on the ballot and we're and that's nice that's good that they're not getting jobs nice um it does seem um like a uh trend a common trend again we've talked about this for years it's just like yeah there are popular ideas and unpopular ideas. And not that one party is perfect,
Starting point is 00:18:27 but compared to the other party, they have more popular ideas. And some of these other wins, just because it's easier to illustrate those takeaways in Kentucky. Democratic Governor Andy Beshear won reelection against Daniel Cameron, who had been endorsed by Donald Trump, but only a week ago. Virginia Republicans failed to flip the state Senate. Democrats took control of the state house. So Glenn Youngkin is going to have to deal with a legislature completely controlled by
Starting point is 00:19:02 Democrats, which is absolutely not going to help him with his anti-abortion, anti-education stuff. Virginia elected the South's first openly transgender state senator. Scalia's daughter lost, right? Yeah, that's good. That's just fun. That's just fun. Fun little tidbit.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Yeah, and a lot of Moms for Liberties also lost. Also an exonerated- Because people don't like fucking whack jobs. An exonerated member of the Central Park Five, Yusuf Salam, won a New York City council seat in New York. So all of this is good news. And yeah, to bring it back around to what you were starting with earlier, Cody, it's clear time and time and time and time again that there are issues that are costing conservatives elections.
Starting point is 00:19:53 We're not going back. We're not going. People do not accept the loss of rights. Transgender fear mongering isn't as effective as they think it is they don't have issues that resonate with people at all no um i want to say that i you know last week we talked was it last week we talked about biden and it's obviously j Biden Obviously, Joe Biden. Boo! Boo! Hey, hey now. Come on. What are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:20:27 To the queen of garbage. I'll tell you. Oh, come on. Hey. I was doing a Princess Bride reference. But people, well, first off, it's very early for us to be having this conversation. And yes, I understand everybody's complicated emotions about Joe Biden. about Joe Biden.
Starting point is 00:20:45 I don't know if this momentum. I think this is separate from the president. I think that absolutely this grassroots kind of issue based wins. I we can't just rest on that saying like, see, we Democrats are better, which they are on those issues. They are. Yeah, it's it's I think it's very heartening and frustrating. Yeah, because oftentimes the popular issues, things that people want don't happen. They just don't until like the money is behind it. You can look like a lot of Pew research, just like, yeah, here's all the polling about these issues.
Starting point is 00:21:25 And it doesn't actually get done until like the money is behind it. And that sucks. But it is good to know that seemingly a lot of people do care about these issues. And when actually given a sort of a direct way to like directly influence policy or their government, they do come out and say, like, actually, all that weird, like online bullshit you're trying to like make us mad about. We don't care about that. And I love that. I love that for us. But there is also like we, you know, talked a little bit last week and there's more polling keeps coming out and just sort of like, yeah, people don't like Joe Biden for many, many reasons. Part of it is the last few weeks.
Starting point is 00:22:08 Part of it is it's been a few years since everybody was already like he's getting pretty old. A lot of reasons. And literally anybody is preferable to him. According again, according to a lot of polling, I'm just like Biden or somebody else would you prefer? And people prefer somebody else. It doesn't seem like that's going to happen um so it's one of those things where like we will I guess we will see like how does that line up because people do support the issues that the Democratic Party at least says that they believe in and support I don't know I can't speak to being an adult in the 80s or 70s and watching the evolution of politics and the tribalism and but what's interesting is that people do seem to be not everybody it's frustrating the
Starting point is 00:22:55 people that don't but a little bit divorcing the president from everything else you know but i find it heartening that people show up for the issues and also are critical of joe biden i don't want donald trump to win we're in a pickle no but it is nice that you can see within a party that they can be that they can be critical of yes the top brass of their party because there are clear problems there while also still coming out and still being no i'm still an active and like a lively member of this party and And I, I, I believe in it, but of course, like, let's, let's fix our side of the street. Exactly. Yeah. And be able to, and be able to like criticize and point out these sorts of things without it being like, oh, so actually you're a secret Republican and you love, you want to smooch Trump so bad. you want to smooch Trump so bad.
Starting point is 00:23:46 And yeah, and just being able to do, you know, there's a lot of work to be done on that front, I think, and allowing that sort of criticism, especially a year out from the fucking election. Give me a break. Oh, yeah. But maybe scolding will work this time. It's going to get gnarly real soon. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Yeah, I think the move, they're going to try to get abortion resolutions on as many swing states as possible to try to push Joe over the finish line. They're like, well, you don't want to go out and vote for him, really. But like you, you got to go vote for your own reproductive rights. And while you're there, if you could spare a vote for Joseph. I think that there is enough active dislike.
Starting point is 00:24:19 I don't know. I shouldn't. But that is a lot of like part of it where it's like, yeah, if you if we have these issues that are always in the forefront, you're going to come out because you care about the issues. And yeah, you'll want to like mark somebody on the press for the president. But like it is. Yeah, it's this mix of being heartening and disappointing and frustrating. It's like, oh, they're going to rest on abortion and not even think about the fact that they should have a better candidate. Yeah. I would guess that they're probably also going to push the thin, thin margins Democrats
Starting point is 00:24:50 have to keep control of the Senate now that Joe Manchin says he's not going to run, which means like, okay, that's a lost seat, so we got to hold on to all these others and maybe flip cruises or something. And if you don't do that, well, then there's three more Supreme Court seats because Supreme Court
Starting point is 00:25:05 justices only die when Republicans are present. Maybe somebody should retire right now while Joe Manchin's still around. We could kill one. Am I not supposed to say that? You're allowed to say whatever you want.
Starting point is 00:25:21 Okay great. I love that you didn't want to weigh in on the conflict overseas, but you're like, actually, we should kill the Supreme Court. I'll kill the Supreme Court justice right now. I already have it planned out. You'll know when it happens. I'll just say that. You'll know when it happens.
Starting point is 00:25:37 Yeah, I think we will know when that happens. It'd be so impressive if we didn't know. Just for weeks. I don't know what's going on the supreme court but eventually we'll know when it happens um this feels like a great spot to take our second ad break listen here literally listen to my voice we all have butts in our lives that we care about our own butts perhaps but also the butts of our loved ones. Starting point is 00:27:43 Maybe just the United States, though. No, just the United States though no just the United States yeah that's exhausting speaking of president politics Trump's on trial Trump's on trial I try this story we all forgot about Trump for a minute I yeah so we were filming yesterday and we're talking like we're gonna talk about this podcast this week like going to talk about in this podcast this week? Like, oh, we can talk about the Trump trial. And I was like, I forgot about Donald Trump. I forgot about that guy. Forgot he was a president.
Starting point is 00:28:10 Forgot he's on trial for various crimes. I don't even remember what crimes they are. I love this for us, partly because just get rid of the guy. Just like die in the toilet. Just like, fuck off. But I love. You'll know it when it happens. You'll know it when it happens you'll know you'll know when it happens uh but i love that there is a world where there is uh this is gonna start out
Starting point is 00:28:34 sounding awful i love a world where there's a tragedy going on um where there's a tragedy or something that's very important going on in the world. And he can't take attention away from it. Yeah. Like there's a, there's a world where like, Oh, there's like this, this tragedy going on with this disaster,
Starting point is 00:28:51 this, this, this, but like, I check out the Trump, the Trump trial. It is not leaked through. At least for me,
Starting point is 00:28:57 back slightly. Well, I get like kid bits and stuff, but like, Oh, for sure. The Trump trial. Uh,
Starting point is 00:29:04 he could be more vocal right now. He could be saying some disgusting ass shit all the time and getting a focus pulled to him. And he's showing remarkable restraint. Do you know what I mean? Well, he's just he's the only thing that he's obviously very singularly minded. And the thing that he is focused on is exclusively slandering this judge. And so like, but we've all lost interest in that.
Starting point is 00:29:27 Right. And so like he, but he cannot give it up. Like he's like in between like recesses, he's like slandering the judge and then they all come back. And she's like, I just want to remind you not to do this. I guess what it actually shows is how.
Starting point is 00:29:41 This is the beautiful stuff that I'm missing because there's other stuff going on. I guess he's just so singularly focused on himself that he's not saying horrifically racist shit about the world tragedy unfolding. But my point is that, yeah, he's been doing his thing. And you're right, he's been running his mouth about something specific to him. It's like we've seen this trick before.
Starting point is 00:30:05 We know this. Like you, you do this all the time for everybody. It's one of the first things you did when you were like running for president. It's like, all right, you can badmouth this like all you want. But we know this game. Jonathan, why don't you run us through some of what's been happening? Yeah, there's a lot. And I'll just go through some of the highlights. So he testified this week at his civil trial in New York, which is the one where he, for decades, inflated the value of his businesses to make a lot of money, which is, you know, fraud.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Like $100 million worth of fraud. His company is going to get broken up over this um which is a fun thing it's funny it's a funny little thing for him um so when he was on the stand he admitted to being closely involved with the trump organization's finances and seemed to not realize that that implicates him he was like oh yeah i left it documents everything goes through me yeah he can't be like not the boss so he admitted that he like really like he would say oh sometimes i think that's too high that's too low whatever um that's not okay he called the proceedings a scam uh he laughed out at the judge uh and the judge kept asking uh trump's lawyer to control him, if you can. One of my favorite quotes.
Starting point is 00:31:26 There is no video of this. We just have, you know, text of it. So you have to do it in a Trump voice in your head. He was asked about his golf club in Aberdeen, Scotland. And Trump said, Aberdeen is the oil capital of Europe. Very rich. And the judge said, irrelevant. Answer the question.
Starting point is 00:31:39 And then Trump says, under his breath, it is. Oh, God. What a champion. Oh, my God. his breath it is uh and then during his testimony he pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and he said i'd love to read this your honor if i could am i allowed to do that and the judge says no and trump says sarcastically i'm shocked i'm shocked what i think man there there's been a bunch of other clips because he's still doing rallies over the last few weeks. And then I was watching highlights of the Republican debate last night. And I think Vivek is trying to do all the same shit that Trump does.
Starting point is 00:32:18 And he just comes off as like menacing. And what did Nikki Haley call him? Scum. Scum. Came off like scum. Wonderful moment for her. The only difference with Trump is that he's legitimately funny and like it comes off as not as threatening.
Starting point is 00:32:33 He says things. It's like almost it's vicious, but it's also almost playful for him. Like it's a it's a little game. I think you're right. The Vivek is like it's very off putting when he tries it Vivek is I don't know what's going to happen with that guy
Starting point is 00:32:54 I don't know what he's auditioning for right now dancing with the stars Fox News dancing with the stars Vice President I don't think it's happening well the thing about Vivek also and we've mentioned this before and I think it's important to point out, it does rhyme with cake, and he'll rap at you about it. He'll rap about it,
Starting point is 00:33:10 yeah, for sure. Poorly, he'll say my name's Vivek, it rhymes with cake, instead of like rhyming it with cake, and then you know it rhymes with cake because he's saying the fucking word, so we know how it's pronounced anyway. Vivek, before he started running for president last year, maybe earlier this year or late last
Starting point is 00:33:26 year was in talks to start a podcast at the daily wire and that fell through and so i'm maybe positing that he only cares about popularity and doing like the podcast thing and maybe we'll use this to get that bump go to to the Daily Wire or the Blaze or whatever media outlet wants him. And that's his situation. That's his deal. Or he wants to be the vice president and Trump might pick him because who cares? You know, nothing matters.
Starting point is 00:33:59 So I mean, that's exactly what I was. I always thought about Trump in 2016. I was like, he doesn't want to be president. He's doing this because he has another career in mind. There's some what I was. I always thought about Trump in 2016. I was like, he doesn't want to be president. He's doing this because he has another career in mind. There's some other angle here. And then by accident, he fell into it. And I'm now I'm very cautious of that. I'm very cautious of people who are like, oh, no, that person is clearly gunning for something else.
Starting point is 00:34:19 It might even be revenge about the fact that his podcast fell through. It's like, oh, yeah, you don't think I could be your podcaster? Well, guess what? I will be the president. And I'm like, oh, that might work. It might. The box has been opened. Because there's a, because I still, I do think that the Trump theory
Starting point is 00:34:35 does hold water. And I think that, yeah, he didn't really want to do this and this and this and this. But then he won. And then he had to do it. And as we've slowly seen, it has ruined his life. Yeah. And it's been really wonderful to watch. So I do.
Starting point is 00:34:52 I'm not. So I don't think that Vivek doesn't have a chance or like won't like step into these positions. But I do. It does seem to be like his motivation is elsewhere, even if it does happen. It's like, oh, now we're stuck with this fucking Vivek who wants to like ban voting unless you're 25 and can pass the citizenship test or whatever. So it's definitely a real possibility. But it's also very clear, like where where it comes from.
Starting point is 00:35:19 I don't think he realistically wants to be the president. But if he does become that, then he will be OK with it. jonathan you look like you've got a sweet little tidbit to share i'm sorry i don't i i was reminded when you were talking of that bit from 2020 where he where trump was talking about i had a great life look at those trucks do you think i could get in that truck and drive away and i started thinking about that while you were talking and that's why i was laughing and had to turn off i'm gonna hit the road the whole time what just happened that jonathan needs to show us i know i'm sorry i should have turned off my camera i said here's the quote by the way nice trucks you think i could hop into one of them and drive it away
Starting point is 00:35:58 i'd love to do it just drive the hell out of here. Drive the hell out of here. I had such a good life. My life was great. He's crying laughing. He's laughing so hard. It's such a familiar impulse. It's like he told us right then and there. I could just throw my phone in the trash.
Starting point is 00:36:24 I could just go. Just go. But bro, you're the president. That's the problem. That's why I have to go. I'm sorry for... No, it's perfect. It's relatable in life, but also I feel like it would be relatable as the president. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Where you're like, no, get me the fuck out of here. I'm the president? No, thank you. This is the worst job. It's like the reverse Dave. When I was getting married, we had to go to these venues to taste test and stuff like that. And this is not a knock against my wife because I was very excited to marry her. But the whole process of actually getting married was at one point we were sitting in a restaurant a restaurant with my my then fiance and my mom
Starting point is 00:37:05 and they were kind of like arguing about cake or something and i look up at the wall and there's a deer head on the wall mounted on the wall and i was like what if that was just a real deer and burst through the wall and i could jump on its back and run to the woods it was like just like the thought was so nice in my brain. I want that. I want that back. I'm calm. Is this my moment?
Starting point is 00:37:32 Is this the moment where the deer grants me freedom? And then we just live out there. Take me, deer, take me. The air's... Are we losing air in here? Oh, if only. The geekier wedding was good, I'm sure. I remember. I was a little like Trump. Oh. Should we move on to another topic?
Starting point is 00:37:50 I think, perhaps. I was going to say, maybe if there's anything else about the GOP debate, which I barely caught any of, but I don't think there's a lot to say other than a bunch of weird bloodthirsty freaks with very similar opinions, but also differing ones and this is like a real bore. I mean Vivek and
Starting point is 00:38:05 Nikki Haley went after each other. I just have to say I love God Vivek's such a special man because he was complaining about like you got like who was moderating who moderated? Lester Holt Lester Holt. You got Lester Holt here and like
Starting point is 00:38:22 you know who should be moderating this debate is Joe Rogan and Elon Musk and Tucker Carlson were his suggestions of who should run that debate. It's amazing. Just like this weird, like. He's such a panderer. It's so funny because like, bro, that is virtue signaling. You use that phrase all the time.
Starting point is 00:38:39 That's what you're doing. You are just virtue signaling to your weird little freaks. But also that he said, like, we got lester holt up here do you think the democrats would have greg gutfeld moderate their debate like his go-to is greg gutfeld it's so beautiful that that's the analog on the other side for lester holt or greg gutfeld the host of gutfeld like what incredible beautiful ah but that's that was the highlight was i didn't watch it either we did um did ron de santis wear his weird moon boots oh yeah he did okay good two things uh vivek decided to do like a little sexist comment about how he like we're just uh
Starting point is 00:39:18 dick cheney and heels up here and he's referring to nicki haley and ron de santis at the same time uh but then if you go to CNN or MSNBC, they shared this clip that was like, here's a little clip of the candidates chatting on stage and it's very clearly they wanted to share a video of Ron DeSantis walking in his heels.
Starting point is 00:39:38 There's no other reason for them to share that clip. They knew exactly what they were doing. It's so funny. I feel like stairs are the real giveaway. He's off the stage. It's so funny. Does he have to do the stairs in it? I feel like stairs. He's off the stage. It's so funny. He like goes from behind the podium and is like doing his look weird little like jaunt like so awkward.
Starting point is 00:39:51 And there's no other reason for them to share the clip. Like, oh, look at that. Oh, they're like, no, no, no, no. You want us to watch Ron walk? He just put it in the chat. It's so good. Oh, yay. He does his little tiptoe like his hamstrings are real sore. Exactly. It's like good. Oh. Yay. He does his little tiptoe, like his hamstrings are real sore.
Starting point is 00:40:07 Exactly. It's like, butt man. Well, he's also angry at Vivek right here, right? Vivek's like trying to get in his head and he's like stammering and he can barely walk. He can barely walk. He's also still shorter than Vivek. Oh, someone needs to teach that man how to walk in heels. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:24 So funny. Beautiful. beautiful yeah it was a lot of the same uh how dare they put him in those shoes and not teach him how to walk in uh it's so funny because also like dude you have to work on your balance man you're asked about this on a podcast to your face you know that people think well no you know that people know you're wearing heels well then you can't give up at that point at that point if you actually step out of them oh yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:40:50 every day a man who willingly gave up the correct pronunciation of his name just a and now perhaps we can talk about some lighter things.
Starting point is 00:41:06 I don't know. Have you guys seen the new Ghostbuster trailer? No. I have. Passionate thoughts? Oh, you're missing out. Or do we want to talk about,
Starting point is 00:41:15 we'll talk about the Marvels. I don't know. Movies? Or just like life. I only have one thought about the Ghostbuster. I think it's really funny.
Starting point is 00:41:22 I don't know if anyone has seen the, the original remake. The Lady Ghostbusters thought about the Ghostbusters. I think it's really funny. I don't know if anyone has seen the original remake. The Lady Ghostbusters. Yeah, Lady Ghostbusters. I have issues with that. I think it's like a weird tonal shift from the originals.
Starting point is 00:41:36 It's like too silly and sketchy. It feels like improv comedians doing little bits the whole time, which is not what the first two movies were. So it's like, or movies should be. So it's a weird,
Starting point is 00:41:48 it was a weird tonal shift, but it's very clear that then they did Ghostbusters afterlife. And we're like, well, we got to do the opposite of that. We can't make it funny at all. We have to make it an action, like adventure,
Starting point is 00:42:00 serious movie with drama in it. And it's like, they can't get it right at all there's like these two extreme wrong tonal decisions that they've made and they can't find the little healthy middle and this trailer is just an example of them like really leaning into maybe
Starting point is 00:42:16 it is funny the movie but the trailer is like oh my god you remember the Ghostbusters everyone fucking loves them so much they're heroes like it's this reverence for the Ghostbusters but like those movies are about exterminators for ghosts I'm looking at it right now
Starting point is 00:42:32 is this a natural disaster movie kind of yeah it's what day after tomorrow or the other one but it's ghosts are causing it oh cool yeah it's so weird that sounds fun it's ghosts are causing it. Oh, cool. Yeah. Ghosts control the weather. It's so weird. That sounds fun.
Starting point is 00:42:46 It's a completely different. Yeah. It's just like, first of all, the first one of these had a character named Podcast in it. I hope they return. Yeah, I know. Soren's face is correct. But it's such a bizarre feat to like, you made Paul Rudd in a Ghostbusters movie. Not funny or fun.
Starting point is 00:43:10 Like, how do you do that? What an accomplishment. Awards for that. Yeah. Anyway, whatever. It's called a Razzie, I think. It is. So it's not.
Starting point is 00:43:18 This isn't a Jason Reitman one. Well, who's doing this one? Does anybody know? It might be. I don't know. This spring. Frozen Empire. God. I mean, I think it might be. All right it might be i don't know this spring frozen empire god i mean i think it might be right again i don't know directed by keenan what i look forward to
Starting point is 00:43:32 most from any ghostbusters movie is the inevitable song that becomes the ghostbuster song from that movie so like oh sure obviously the first one with ray parker jr and then in the first one with Ray Parker Jr. And then in the second one, Your Love, keeps lifting me higher and higher. Oh, yes. I really loved. I mean, as a kid, there's nothing. I was so jazzed during that scene with 100%.
Starting point is 00:43:55 Them walking the Statue of Liberty. It's so uplifting and exciting. And so there's, I feel like every Ghostbusters gets like really, like there's some song that I'm going to latch on to from this movie. And I'm just I'm waiting for that. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:08 That moment. You're going to have to actually almost promise you that that will not happen in this movie. Oh, but they must. You think so? You think they have to get this trailer podcast? All right. Well, we don't have to just keep spinning our wheels. We can wrap things up.
Starting point is 00:44:27 You don't want to talk about Ghostbusters. No, I don't. Ghostbusters 3, 2, 2. I don't think so. I think that's right. 3, 2, 2. It's the second Ghostbusters 3, right? 4, 5.
Starting point is 00:44:39 But it's a sequel to that. There's five, but it's a sequel to the second. Sequel to the second. So it goes to 3, but it's a sequel to itself second sequel to the second so it goes versus three but this is too convoluted this is like marvel levels of ghostbusters 3 2 you know it's so complex you can't like talk about well we don't know enough about i mean i wish everyone we weren't raised in these movies we don't we weren't literally there when they shot it's just too chaotic it's too chaotic and i really wish that more people would keep that in mind when they're trying to talk about it it's like you can't bring order to
Starting point is 00:45:09 this conversation about ghostbusters frozen empire yeah because chaos reigns as as we know what was that what's called the chaos reigns day chaos chaos never dies chaos never dies chaos reigns is way better chaos never dies was the workingigns is way better. Chaos Never Dies was the working title of this new Ghostbusters movie. And they went with Frozen Empire. Order gets remembered. Chaos never dies. Okay.

Starting point is 00:47:35 Hiya, folks. If you're listening to my voice right now, that means you're into learning new things. Like, for example, how to build a tiny house for at least 12 pet toads. You're not content to let the world's critical insights pass you by. Like, for example, the fact that toads need way, way, way more space than you would think. Yes, that's right. And I think that an inquisitive person such as yourself should definitely check out the Jordan Harbinger Show, which features in-depth interviews with some of the world's most fascinating minds like Bill Nye, Terry Crews, and Annie Duke. They've also got Feedback Friday episodes
Starting point is 00:48:12 to respond to listener questions about everything from asking for a raise at work to helping a family member escape a cult. A toad cult? Who's to say? Anyway, the Jordan Harbinger Show is a great complement to this podcast. Here you might hear the latest news about America's toxic food system. On the Jordan Harbinger Show, you can listen to a Skeptical Sunday segment about why some
Starting point is 00:48:35 foods that are available in the U.S. are banned in other parts of the world. Whether Jordan is conducting an interview or giving advice to a listener, you'll find something useful that you can apply to your own life in every single episode of the Jordan Harbinger Show. That could mean learning how to ask advice the right way, or it could just be discovering a slight mindset tweak that changes how you see the world. H-A-R-B, as in boy, I-N, as in Nancy, G-E-R, as in really got to read the Wikipedia page on toads through to the end next time. Available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Good day. Have you ever heard that story that Napoleon used the Egyptian Sphinx for target practice and shot its nose off?
Starting point is 00:49:32 Or maybe you've heard that a French astrologer named Nostradamus correctly predicted nearly 500 years of human history. Or maybe someone told you that the legendary blues guitarist Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads in Mississippi. These stories are what I like to call historical myths. Great little tales that may or may not have any basis in historical fact. On Our Fake History, we explore these historical myths and try to determine what's fact, what's fiction, and what is such a good story. It simply must be told. If you dig stories about death-obsessed emperors, lost civilizations, desperate sieges, voodoo black magic, and famous historical figures you thought
Starting point is 00:50:27 you knew, then Our Fake History might just be your new favorite podcast. If you dig it, then subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever you get your podcasts.
