You may already know that the Magnus Archives is an award-winning horror fiction anthology podcast
that examines what lurks in the archives of the Magnus Institute, an organisation that examines
the esoteric and the weird. You may already know about the exploits of head archivist Jonathan
Sims in his attempts to bring a seemingly unrelated collection of supernatural statements up to date.
You may already know about Martin, Elias, Sasha, Tim, Daisy, Georgie, and more.
You may have pored over five seasons of episodes uncovering mysteries along the way. You may have
already enjoyed the metaplot. You may already know about the continuation, the Magnus Protocol.
But did you know you can finally enter the world of the Magnus Archives yourself, as player or GM?
Hi there, Jonathan Sims here, co-creator, writer, and voice of the Archivist in the
Magnus Archives. I wanted to tell you about the Magnus Archives role-playing game by Monty
Cook Games. Currently, as of the time I'm recording, this behemoth has been on backer
kit for a while and has already raised almost one and a half million dollars, which I wish
I could say surprised me, but after
the campaign for the Magnus Protocol, I know how amazingly supportive and terrifyingly organised
our fans are. Seriously, thank you so much for your support. I like to think I know a thing or
two about TTRPGs. In fact, I run my own little TTRPG company with Sasha Sienna, who you may know
as the writer of What the Ghost and the voice of Georgie Barker. So hopefully you can believe me when I tell you that the adapted
Cypher system game Monty Cook have developed for the Magnus Archives is going to be something
really special. After listening to all 200 episodes and taking copious notes, Monty and
the design team took the time to chat with myself, Alexander, Jay Newell, and Callum extensively
about what Magnus is, what may work in a game, and even discuss the elements we think might make
this special for Magnus superfans who may not yet be gamers. If you haven't checked it out already,
you can find the Magnus Archives role-playing game on Backerkit until September 21st by heading to www.rustyquill.com forward slash mcg. That's www.rustyquill.com forward
slash mcg, or you can find the links in the show notes below. The game's mechanics utilise the
well-loved cipher system designed by Monty Cook, specifically tailored to portray the horror and
the action of the Magnus Archives. A whole new set of mechanics portraying the fear and stress of
these stories is woven throughout every aspect
of the game. On a particular note, the added mechanic of stress not only measures the toll
of these terrible encounters, but can translate into the remarkable changes that these encounters
can have on a character. Those crossing paths with the entities of this setting come away
psychically scarred, but also sometimes with mysterious, supernatural abilities. Using such
abilities might save your
life, but it might also send you further into the clutches of the entities at the heart of such
powers. A character might even eventually become an avatar, but is that a good thing?
You'll have to discover that for yourself. The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game is a hefty
hardcover book. It contains the full rules of the game, a detailed character creation system,
lots of game advice, a comprehensive look at the characters, artefacts and entities of the
Magnus Archives, and entire adventures, called Investigations, instigated by statements,
ready to play. It's also loaded with informative lore and great art that every fan of the Magnus
Archives is going to love, even if you never sit down to play. If you back the campaign, you can get exciting rewards including a limited edition deluxe faux leather hardback
version of the rules, character folios, player's guides, unique The Magnus Archives dice tailored
for the cipher system in a Bone Turner's Tail inspired box. You can even get your own limited
edition copy of A Guest for Mr. Spider. There's also a range of exciting stretch goals. Why not check
out the Magnus Archives role-playing game for yourself? You can find a link to the campaign
in the show notes, or go to rustyquill.com forward slash mcg. Thanks for listening.
