Starting point is 00:00:00 Jack Dorsey leaves Twitter, big moves in sports, a controversial new gas pipeline, and other top news for Wednesday, December 1st. Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pullover. Thanks for joining us. Here's the quote of the day. In the same way that a small child cannot draw a bad picture, so a child of God cannot offer a bad prayer. Richard J. Foster. Let's jump right in with some espresso shots. Jack Dorsey is stepping down into the lowly territory of being CEO of just one publicly traded company. At Jack, founder and CEO of both Twitter and Square
Starting point is 00:00:46 announced his resignation from the social media giant on Monday, via Twitter, and said he'd leave its board in, quote, May-ish, unquote. He served as CEO from 2006 to 2008, and again since 2015. During his second stint, Twitter grew and became more profitable, but has also suffered from more impressive Big Brother syndrome with Meta, Facebook. $3.6 billion in profit is less impressive when it's put next to $86 billion. Pere Agrawal, who started with Twitter 10 years ago as an engineer, has replaced Jack as CEO, and Jack will devote more time to his payment processing company, Square. Our goal is to keep the big things big and the small things small. It's not that who Twitter's CEO is isn't important. It's just not God of the universe important. Stay focused on eternity. It changes everything. Colossians 3, 2-4 says,

Not to be outdone, LSU announced its first blockbuster hire. Brian Kelly, Notre Dame's winningest coach, is calling Baton Rouge his new home thanks to a new 10-year, $100 million contract. Over in the MLB, the Texas Rangers dropped more than any team in an offseason ever,
Starting point is 00:02:36 in less than 24 hours, to snag some new lone stars. And the NY Mets signed star pitcher Max Scherger to a record-setting contract with an annual salary higher than two franchises' entire payrolls. Nord Stream 2 isn't a new super soaker. It's a controversial natural gas pipeline stretching from Germany to Russia. The 756-mile-long tube will drastically lower shipping costs for Russia and the EU but effectively cut out Ukraine's massive transit network. Supporting Ukraine, the U.S. is considering sanctions against Russia to prevent them from gaining too much control over Europe's energy grid. This potential move is causing tensions to rise, with Germany lobbying against
Starting point is 00:03:20 the potential sanctions and Russia threatening violence against Ukraine, sending roughly 100,000 troops to their border. Elsewhere in the South Pacific, the Pentagon is set to begin building bases in Guam and Australia to prepare the U.S. military to better counter China, who recently tested their first hypersonic missile. Our hope is never contingent on a geopolitical outcome. It's much more secure than that. Regardless of whether things get worse or better, based on the decisions of world powers, everything eventually ends well for followers of Christ. Philippians 4.6 says, Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
Starting point is 00:04:00 present your requests to God. There are a lot of reasons to read a Bible. Meanwhile, the CDC updated their booster guidance to say all adults 18 plus should get the booster. The agency previously said all adults may get it. The stock market had a tough Tuesday. The Dow and S&P 500 were both down almost 2% yesterday, reacting to both Omicron and news that the Federal Reserve is considering rolling back pandemic-era support quicker than before in order to combat inflation.
Starting point is 00:05:18 In his first interview since the car accident in February, Tiger Woods says he aims to play a few tournaments a year, but will never play golf full-time again. He dodged questions about the crash, but said he's lucky to be alive, and it was 50-50 on whether his leg would be amputated. Negotiations over lifting economic sanctions on Iran in return for them limiting nuclear development have re-re-restarted. Iran is still angry about the U.S. withdrawing from the previous deal and is refusing to meet directly, so European diplomats are relaying messages between American and Iranian officials

Smollett, who is black, is accused of staging a, quote, fake hate crime, unquote, for publicity to further his career. Prosecutors say he paid men to tie a noose around his neck while shouting MAGA.
