Details of the Christmas parade tragedy, Jerome Powell's next four years, what Spotify is changing after a single tweet from Adele, and other top news for Wednesday, November 24th.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over.
Here's the quote of the day.
When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.
G.K. Chesterton
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
gratitude. G.K. Chesterton. Let's get started with some espresso shots.
An SUV plowed through a holiday parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin on Sunday, killing six and injuring close to 50 others. Police say that 39-year-old Daryl Brooks Jr. turned down the
parade route while fleeing a domestic disturbance. Brooks, who has a lengthy record, was recently
released from custody for a separate incident in which he ran over a woman. At his initial court appearance yesterday, Brooks was
charged with five counts of homicide. More charges are expected to follow as the sixth fatality,
a child, was announced during the proceeding. As details emerge about Brooks, so do stories of
people who helped in the moment. Army veteran Jen Zenizek jumping to administer CPR and first aid,
local business owner Norman Bruce opening his shop to provide shelter,
and other community members coming together to hold a vigil on Monday evening.
The promise of heaven does not remove the pains of this world,
but it does give us hope, strength, and peace during life's most difficult seasons.
Join us in praying for hope, strength, and peace for everyone who is impacted by this tragedy.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more. Join us in praying for hope, strength, and peace for everyone who was impacted by this tragedy.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more.
Grief, crying, and pain will be no more because the previous things have passed away.
Revelation 21.4 President Biden nominated Jerome Powell to lead the Federal Reserve.
It's sort of like a don't rock the boat kind of decision,
because Powell already holds the position.
Powell, a Republican, won broad bipartisan support
for taking unprecedented measures to support the economy
when the bottom fell out in March 2020.
Broad support, but not universal support.
Progressive Democrats think he's way too soft on big banks,
and that he's neglected to consider how the Fed's policies impact climate change. Assuming that he's confirmed by the Senate, his second term will be all about reining
in on inflation. This year's average Thanksgiving feast is the most expensive on record, up 14%
from last year. And that's just the dinner. Gas is up $1.28 per gallon since last Turkey Day,
and surpassed COVID as the largest deterrent for traveling this Thanksgiving.
and surpassed COVID as the largest deterrent for traveling this Thanksgiving.
Inflation may be just one of the many reasons that you're anxious as you head into Thanksgiving,
but your hope is not contingent on the economy, a political outcome, or anything else of this world.
Be reminded of the strength of God and your security as his son or daughter.
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. Edward Mote, 1863.
Not all of us can get a company with 365 million users to change a major feature with just a single tweet.
But then again, we aren't Adele.
The megastar requested via Twitter that Spotify remove the default shuffle option on her newly released
album called 30 so that it could be experienced in the order that she intended. The company replied
saying anything for you and Swiftly made the change. Speaking of Swiftly, T Swift broke the
record for longest song to hit number one with her 10 minute re-release of All Too Well, a fan
favorite from the album Red. The previous record had been set by Don McLean's eight-minute-long American Pie, which held the title for almost 50 years. The Grammys also
announced their 2022 nominees, with John Batiste leading all artists with 11 nominations.

Two of the 17 missionaries kidnapped on October 16th
by the 400 Mawazo gang in Haiti were freed.
The reason for the release
is unclear, but the gang previously threatened to kill the abductees, which includes five children,
unless they received $1 million in ransom per person. The U.S. is urging all Americans to
evacuate Haiti. The jury in the racially charged trial of Ahmaud Arbery's death began deliberating
yesterday. The defendants have claimed that they suspected Arbery of robbery and were making a citizen's arrest,
then shot him out of self-defense during an altercation.
The prosecution says neither the citizen's arrest or the claim of self-defense are legal and that this was simply murder.
An arbitrator ruled that Kevin Spacey must pay the producer of House of Cards $31 million for breaking his
contract's sexual harassment policy. Spacey was immediately suspended from the show after being
accused of sexual assault in 2017, and the show's new season was rewritten to remove his character
entirely. It's a battle of Goliath versus Goliath. Amazon announced that it would stop accepting
payments by Visa from UK customers
beginning next year and is considering switching its co-branded Prime credit card from Visa to
MasterCard. Analysts say that the Visa ban is a negotiating tactic by Amazon to get lower fees.
Early this morning, NASA launched the Double Asteroid Redirection Test Mission, or DART for
short. Coming from rocket scientists, the idea is pretty simple.
Hit an asteroid with a refrigerator-sized satellite going 15,000 miles per hour and see what happens. It's a $330 million mission to practice redirecting threatening space rocks.
