Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 399- Orphan: First Kill (2022)

Episode Date: October 10, 2022

In this week's episode here in the heart of spooky season, we're discussing the brand new prequel to a film we reviewed just a few weeks ago: it's the 2022 film "Orphan: First Kill" and hoo boy, were ...we flummoxed! Special topics for your consideration include: a surprising celebrity sibling, being super ready to hate a movie knowing absolutely nothing about it, an in-depth analysis of fencing by two people who, again, know absolutely nothing about it, and a phone call from a kind listener who sheds more light on the real orphan story that has unfolded over the last few weeks, so please stick around to hear that.  Did you miss our conversation about "Orphan" recently? It was Episode 395. I know Julia Stiles has been in a handful of horror movies but we haven't done any others. She did star in a remake of "The Omen" and we covered the original, so maybe go listen to that? It's Episode 77 and I know it's a stretch, sorry. Would you like to tell us about things we're wrong about? We deserve it. You can call 412-407-7025 and lay it on us. Starting point is 00:00:00 Oh my fucking God. What the fuck? Oh my fucking God! What the fuck? Did I expect to see one Julia Stiles in this film? I did not! Did I remember that she was still alive? I did not.
Starting point is 00:00:30 God, I liked her when she was a teen though. I thought she was cool. Did I briefly think she was Leanne Rimes when she first appeared in the screen? Have I thought of Leanne Rimes in the last 20 years? Yeah, what happened to that bitch? She's probably probably like thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th th thi th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi that thi thi that that that that that that that that that that that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thia. thou-s thia' thia' thia' thia'a' thia'a'a' that that that th happened to that bitch? She's probably still out there making music? Oh, I'm sure. She's probably like an all-time country music award winner.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Can we think of Leanne Rimes would happen to that B t-shirt? No, that's mean. Katie, what the fuck are we talking about? We're talking about the 2022 prequel orphan first blood. I'm sorry about all that swearing. I'll bleep out some of those swear words I just yelled. Orphan first kill. First kill.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Why is first blood so stuck in your brain? I don't know, but I wrote it here as open first blood so. Well, it makes more sense on some level because this is not her first flood was taken. Yeah, it's true. My first th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi thi thi th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to toeeeea. toea. toeea. to thea. I thea. I the did his first blood was taken. Yeah, it's true. It's true. My first note is the very cynical. Prequels are always better, aren't they? Oh. Coming out of the gate swinging. I was ready to hate this movie. It's a good thing we're in ambulance. Because we can treat that burn that this film just got. Seriously. So right out of the gates, the Day Globe Paint is back in the opening credits to this film. You're like, here we go. And there's part of me that couldn't be happier to see them. It's like meeting an old friend.
Starting point is 00:01:51 Because you just really love that part where she was fingering, getting fingered by a... I heard adopted father and painted for me. Peter Sarsgard. Why is everybody in this hospital in Estonia speaking English? I don't know. Some of them have British accents, who can say? We need it. We meet like, oh sorry.
Starting point is 00:02:14 No, no, please. We meet a security guard when the art therapist goes to the school. And she's like, hey, yeah, I'm from Estonia. And he's like, theymea, I thou. I thoult th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the th. th. their th. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. We. We. thi. We. We. We. We. We. Wea. Wea. Wea. Wea. the. Wea. Wea. the. Wea. the. the. We're. thea. We need. thea. th. thea. thea. th, I thought we all agreed, no, oh anyway, put your arms up I guess. I learned these lines in Estonian. So yes, there's an art therapist who's coming to the school and... This is not a school. I'm sorry, no, you're correct. This is an institute. Institution. The Spadonona Institute.
Starting point is 00:02:43 For mentally disturbed adults. Yes, not children. Not children. And it's a real horror movie thing, drawing upsetting pictures. So an art therapist really belongs. Yeah, for sure. So as soon as she's in there, like this guy's talking to and he's like, you're going to drop the Estonian accent.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Anywho, he's like, I've done enough. This is where we are. He's like, hello, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, th, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, the, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thu, thu, tho, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. A, thi. A. A. toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. tho. thi. Estonian accent. Anywho. He's like, I've done enough. This is where we are. He's like, hello, you're here for art therapy anyway. So we've got Lena over there. And she's like, oh my god, she's such a handful. Like, Lena's missing. It's like, oh no, we have to hide you in this art room. Yes. She's like, who's who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is who is the the the the the the door. Because she's the reason for the opening you're filling.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Oh God. She's locked in the room, but there's a small child painting in this institution for adult crazy people. It's crazy that the actor is 13 years older. 13 years older. Crazy. So to make up for that, because she was 11 or 13, I can't remember which when she filmed the room initially. She's 25 now. She's 25 now. She is much taller
Starting point is 00:03:53 now. Sure. So all of the shots of her, her standing are filmed from behind with a child. And the ones where it's a child body double, obviously the height is right. Yeah. But whenever they show her face and she's in a scene, which is on her knees. She is way too small. She's like the size of the average four-year-old. It's like, they were like, oh, you know how masterfully they did that shit in the Lord the Rings, where like the big people and the little people and they mix it all up up up don't have time for that? That's going to be really expensive. We don't have Peter
Starting point is 00:04:28 Jackson money. So what if she's a little bit back and on her knees? Can we do that? Will that do? It's so funny. She has she like in this scene, she, actually, it's not the scene is when she actually escapes, but she's standing in a doorway and she's like the height of the doorknob, which is like what three feet off the ground? No. And then you see her reach for something and she has adult ass hands? But I'll tell you what, she is killing it in this. She's so fun. She's so good. And so the way she sneaks out of the hospital is kind of genius. Because there's a guard there that's a pet-ar-ass I guess. Oh it's so uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:05:13 And he's like, here are those ribbons you wanted. She's like, thank you so much. This dumb, horny, pet-dummy. And he's like, she's like, do you want to come inside? He's like, yes, I very much do. And she beats him to death against the wall while standing on a chair and I was like, you can't get that kind of leverage while standing on a chair to beat a man to death? No, you can't. And you also have to wonder that she has the strength of a 10 year old, I mean physically. She doesn't have a whole lot more power than a 10-year-old. I think she's like an aunt. She's like tiny but she got a ton of strength. Got it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:48 All right. I kept thinking how frustrating that would be that just like you're a full-ass grown woman. You want to fight someone and you're like, beep, bee, bee! Oh, it's the the terrorer the terr-fterterterterterterterterter the the the the terter ter ter ter ter of ter of ter of ter of ter of ter of ter of ter of ter of terr-f. Oh, terr-fi. Oh, terr-f. Oh, terr-f. Oh, termup. Oh, the the the the th. th. th. th. the's, the's, thee, thee, thee, thee, t. Oh, t. Oh, t. Oh, t. Oh, t. Oh, t. Oh, t. Oh, toy, toy. toy. toy. toy. toy. Oh, toy. Oh, the. the. the. the. the. the. thea, thea, thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea, thea, thea, t the actress, Kirsten Dunst. Kirsten Dunst, like being a child in perpetuity. Yeah. Like, yeah, that's awful. Nightmares. Yeah. And near dark, a film in which I hate that character so much. Yeah, yeah, because you're so sad for him.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Also he's so annoying. purposefully. So he or she she gets out and the art therapist is like leaving and she does the rear windshield window like wipe her on her car and it reveals the girl standing behind her car and I'm like this movie is already great. It's already great. The art therapist gets out of the car and runs back into the building. Why doesn't Lena take the car? I thought she did. Yes, but also, so Lena has murdered like several guards because she gets the one woman to do it by throwing her candy basically.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Oh right, the woman who's got zombie strength. Yes, and also why is that woman allowed to thiiiiiiiiiiaa, the to be, the to be, to be, the to be, the to be, the the to be, the to be, to be, the thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. She, th. She, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thea, threaten, threaten, thea, thea, thea, thea.a.a, isa, thea, thea, thi, thi, th woman allowed to just wander free if anything can make her do then? I don't mean to be a dick, but like it seems really dangerous for your employees. But she's like, hey, do you want this candy? And the one goes, that will rips people apart and you're like, what is this mental disorder? Yes, I also really love candy. But I only kill myself with it, not other people. Oh, yeah. She's just like, eatie, do you want some candy?
Starting point is 00:07:30 And then the eatie just turns and murders a man, like with her hands. So the therapist goes back outside and then the kid just like gets in her trunk and then the therapist goes back out and was like, well, I guess I'll leave now. Why did she not justthen the kid just like gets in her trunk and then therapist goes back out and I was like well I guess I'll leave now. Why did she not just steal the car? I don't because she probably can drive until later when she's wearing sunglasses and smoke I love that also she can talk pretty well yeah. So she follows she goes home with the therapist. Yeah she was Lena was already in her house when she walks in, and her house has a piano. And we have learned from the head of the Sarna Institute that this isn't anyone's first kill because she has killed an entire family already.
Starting point is 00:08:16 But prior to this? Lena has already killed a family. Prior to this, she's like, that's why she's in the institute and why she's the most dangerous game. Who did she kill? Somebody she fell in love with. Okay. Who tho, who the th the th th th th th th th th th. tho, the tho tho tho tho the tho tho tho tho the tho the the tho the tho the tho the the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head the head. the head. the head. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, she's like, that's why she's in the institute and why she's the most dangerous game. Who did she kill? Somebody she fell in love with. Okay. Who adopted her at some point. Okay, all right. Yeah. It's wild. That's right, because when we see the photo album or the photos that are stuck in the Bible in the first movie, yeah. Yeah. There's like a collection of dads. Yeah, there's a bunch. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, she kills the art therapist. She hits the art therapist. Oh, that's right. And then gets on her computer and finds this missing child, Esther, who has her damn same eyebrows.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Nailed it. Realizes that the art therapist isn't dead and says, oh Anna, it usually only takes one and then beats her to death. Yes. Yeah. So this is like orphan, ninth kill. Yeah, I guess so. You're right. You're right. And then we're in Connecticut and Julia Stiles. And then we're in Connecticut and Julia Stiles.
Starting point is 00:09:16 their thi's th anyone. Unbeknownst anyone. And I was like, it sounds like Julia Stiles, but it does not fucking look like Julia Stiles. Who is this brown-haired woman? Her face is a little different there, too. Well, yeah, I mean, it's been probably 20 years since you've seen her. Yes, but I look like thiks like she's still 17. Yeah. I think there's this world. Oh yeah I get Botox woman told me I had very strong frowned muscles and I was like, thank you, I have been working them. Did you just frow at her what you said? I just frown it Alan. We start, how do I set up that this family is rich? How should I do that in a film? Fencing! Give somebody an epae. Intense fencing. Intense, but intensing. Oh my god it's so intense. Oh good fencing, bro, is a note that I have. Her like super rich looking son too. They could not have cast better for that super rich looking son. And a Disney level dope of a husband.
Starting point is 00:10:25 He is one of Donald Southerone's kids. He is not. He is one of Donald's other ones kids. What? Kiefer's half brother. Rosef? Yeah. Wow.
Starting point is 00:10:34 I tell you, I tell you no lies. Wow. Yeah. But he is a Disney level dope. Yeah. He's just like, huh? What? Hey, man, I really like that idea, man. That sounds great. And you're like, oh God, get a personality. Donald's kid.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Oh my God. So we learn that they're more, he's in mourning still of the loss of their daughter. Who is missing? She says to him, Esther's not coming back. Cut to someone walking towards them and saying, we we we we we we we we we we we. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe, toe, to me. to to to me, to me Cut to someone walking towards them and saying, we need to talk to you about Esther. I'm here about Esther? And her going, oh no. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:10 So they're fucking rich. Yeah. She flies on a private jet to go get Esther. I'm going to tell you something. As a movie, you don't need to not write Russia after Moscow. No, I know her Moscow. thi. th. like, maybe like if you wrote New York City, New York, USA. We know where it is. We're cool. Moscow, there's one. There's probably more, but there's one. There's probably Moscow and like Indiana, I guess. Yeah, yeah. Indiana, United States. But we get it. Oh yeah. Anyway. So she meets Esther and she's already like, uh, this. thi. thi. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. there. there's. there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there. There's there's there's there's one. There's one. There's one. There's one. There's one. There's one. There's one. There's one. There's there. There's there. There's there. There's there. There's there. There's there. There's there. There's there. There. There. There. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. there. there. there. there. there. there. there. I. I. there. there. there. I's there's there. there's th. there's there's th. th. there's there's there's there's there's there's one. I. I there's there. Something's weird. But at this point she just seems like a cold bitch. Sure, she was given mom from the first movie vibes.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Yeah. It was like kind of standoffish. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm like, oh no, we're not going to get a repeat of the first movie. So I'm kind of bumming. So I'm kind of bumming to. And I thought, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, she thi, she's thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi, thi, thi repeat of the first movie. Okay. So I was bumming to. And I thought, oh, gosh, she only lands rich families. And of course it's a short-term con because she's never going to grow, so it has to be. Right, right. However, they get to this house and they have Fabrije eggs on the mantle. And they fly her home on a private jet, toe, tox, tox, tox, tox, toe, toe, toe, thia, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the thi, the thi, and the the the the the the their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and the the their, and the the the the the the the the the th. th. And, and th. th. th. And, and thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. And, thr. And, tooooooooomooooom. And, tooo. And, too. And, too. And, thr. And, thoooooooo. And, th bottle of liquor. Yeah. And I thought, private jets still have mini bottles of liquor, huh? Feels like you should get a full size. He's interested, Maxie. Yeah, I do. So yeah, they take her to the new super rich house. Oh, yeah, she has a bathroom freak out. She chugs the bottle of vodka. She's like, what is this drinking? She doesn't drink once in the other movie. No, and also she presumably hasn't been drinking at all in
Starting point is 00:12:49 that institute and she also has the body of a 10-year-old, so that is going to get her fucked. Yeah. That's like a perfectly proportioned bottle to fuck her up. Yeah. But she's, she's, she has said something that like gave her away. Right. She's like, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, to to to to to to to to to to th. th. thi, thi, she's, she's, she's thi, she's thi, she's thi, thi, she's thi, thi, she doesn't thriui, she doesn't thi, she doesn't thi, she doesn't thi, she doesn't thi, she doesn't thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, she doesn't thi, she doesn't th. She doesn't th. She doesn't th. She's thi, she doesn't thi, she doesn't thi, she's thi, she's thi, thi, thin, threat threat threat threat threat threat threat threat threat threat threat threats threats threats threats threats threats threats. Yeah, but she's she has said some things that like gave her away. Right, she's like oh I can't wait to meet wait to meet Jackie and uh mup-mup. No one calls a grandma mup-mup-mup. I'm sorry there are all sorts of things to call your grandmother. Listen if you ever called a grandmother mup-mup-mup-right in because I want to hear your story. You did it because because because because because because because because because because because because it because it because it because it because it because it because it because it because it because it because it because it because it because it because it because their to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to-up. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. I to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. I I they. I they. I they. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm to hear your story. You did it because you were eating a hostess snowball at the same time. Mop, Mop. Mop. I mean, my grandmothers were mumm. Mum.
Starting point is 00:13:31 Mummum. They were mom, mom, mom. Yeah, that sounds. I had mom mom and pop up, but they were mumm and pop up. Mine. Mine were nana and gaga. Yeah, that that's. That th. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine were. Mine. Mine. Mine. My. My. My. My. My. My. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. My. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. My. My. My. My. M. M... M... M.. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M. M makes sense. That checks. That scans. Scan. So they take her to the new house and they're like, here's your favorite record from when you left, Jimmy Duranty. Why would that little girl have loved Jimmy Durante?
Starting point is 00:13:57 She... She doesn't make any sense. She wasn't kidnapped in the 1950s. I kept having this problem in the movie because I know it's tha's tha's th. It's th. It's th. It's th.. It's th. It's th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thi, thin' thin' thin' thin' th. S, thian, thian, thian, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, they's thin,. I kept having this problem in the movie because I know it's a prequel, right? And we've been doing so many fucking movies that are set in the late 70s, early 80s. And I'm like, oh, this movie's ticket plays in the 80s. Why does everybody have a cell phone? What's happening? Right, you've got tothe central thing in her room.
Starting point is 00:14:27 So she can listen to her Jimmy Durante record. Who I only know because of fucking Bugs Bunny cartoons. I honestly, there you go. He had a big schnaz. We're told that she has to go talk to the therapist. The one who has the bird in her to the therapist. The one who has the bird in her office? I cannot imagine having a bird look at me while I'm talking about my mother.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Yeah, no. No. No. No. And also, those birds all talk. You know what I mean? They're going to pick up repeated phrases. No. Childhood trauma. Bad mother. Maybe it is your fault. Therapist. Reframe that. No. And how did that make you feel? I shan't. Anyway, there's the therapist's office. Yeah. And no one is supervising this little boy. Why is that little baby boy all alone inthe therapist's office. Yeah. And no one is supervising this little boy. Why is that little tiny baby boy all alone in a therapist's office? Just so she could fake it like he assaulted her.
Starting point is 00:15:34 Yeah. Oh man, she immediately like out the gate just manipulates the shit out of this therapist. She does. And then, but so Julia Stiles has told her, you know, we're going to go see the therapist. Yeah. Remember, she has the bird, Sidney? And so when... Oh, I thought you were telling me.
Starting point is 00:15:49 Yeah, right. Yeah, you're like, yeah, I remember. When Lina goes there, Ea, Ester, I guess we should call that was a different bird. Yeah Sydney was a McCall this is a peacock I'm all. That dumb bitch of a child so they like immediately the therapist is on to this sort of. Yeah. The therapist is so weird actually because she like doesn't is so skeptical and then immediately falls for it. It's the therapist in the last movie too, which is giving me worries again. Also as a 40 year old man,
Starting point is 00:16:28 unless you're presenting me with like a pink flamingo or a bald eagle, I'm not identifying any fucking birds. I like birds, but I'm not gonna do it. Yeah. Yeah. I don't want your birds sitting in on our session. That's all. I don't be comfortable my sessions. Really? I wouldn't be comfortable speaking in front of an animal. I do like tele-therapy now and I kick the cats out of the room. Oh really? I don't want them to hear my stuff. That's true. What if they tell somebody? They know. This cat's already know. They see my darkness inside. Hello. Oh, that reminds me that I have to talk to you about you you you you the music you the music you the music you the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music the music music music the music. the to to to to to me me me me. to me me. their their their their their their their their their their their their their. Starting point is 00:17:05 a story. Are you talking to me or to the fans and listeners? Okay. But also they can hear too. Because I'm letting them in on our session. Now I have to bleep my name out. Sorry I did that. That's why I give people my home address. Anyway, we're just getting that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I get that I get that I get that I get that that that that that that I get that I get that that. that. that. that. that I that I get that I get that. that. that I get that I get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the the the the the the. the the the the. the the the. the. the. that. the. Anyway, we're just getting this vibe that Julia Stiles is like lightly incapable of warmth, right?
Starting point is 00:17:28 Yeah, yeah. And so she's got this son, Gunner, a teenager. His friends are all dicks. Hey, uh, Wednesday Adams, why don't you tell your brother to come outside, you dumb piece shit? I hate you kid. So wild, like, I just don't see that ever happening in a real world right? And his response is hey my parents are right inside. Yeah. Not hey don't talk to that child. That way. And that's when you're like oh you're a piece of shit. But also when you find out what we find out later what the eff and fuck? Yes. It's so yes yes, yes, yes, okay, yes.
Starting point is 00:18:10 So the dad's a painter, right, and he's taken Esther into his studio because he's psyched that she can paint now. He doesn't really ask how she learned or anything like that. And she's been gone for years. Four years, we're told. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It turns out he's famous for black light painting. Oh, I hate it. Like, oh, he's like, I'm famous for it. And it's like, yeah, love your work on those grateful dead posters, guy.
Starting point is 00:18:33 Listen, I'm big in the whole Spencer's scene. Sorry that I did that while you were taking a sip, you said. It's okay, it's burning a little bit inside my nose. And also like the dad, his voice just doesn't sound like it should be coming out of his head. Like everything about him seems wrong somehow. And he's just so dumb. I don't understand why he's so fucking dumb. Unless like when the reveal happens, like did she get a dumb husband? He was her husband? I guess, guess unless like yeah if she had married
Starting point is 00:19:08 him early I guess I don't know. So yeah they're like hanging out in the studio and we find out that mom's a very efficient fundraiser. I do not know what her job is because they're very very very very very very very wealthy and it's certainly not on his painting commissions. Yeah fundraising I guess? I guess yeah I guess yeah. I the the yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if she, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, th, th, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the because they're very, very, very, very, very wealthy and it's certainly not on his painting commissions. Fundraising, I guess? I guess, yeah. I mean, they're like sick, like gross wealthy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Oh, you're like disturbingly wealthy. She's on the phone being like, it's for pediatric cancer for Christ's sake. I really like Julia Stiles in that moment. I was like, thi th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the, I the, I the, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th. I was like, this is where you shine. Yeah, she's at the Bourne movies, those like Jason Bourne. Yeah, she's like, I want to say she's like the person he calls into for information or something. Okay. She's some sort of like high-up muck-muck and like the CIA or something. And it works really well. She's very efficient at doing that. Good. Good for her. Um. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She's. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's so th. She's so th. She's the the the th something. And it works really well. She's very efficient at doing that. Good. Yeah. Good for her.
Starting point is 00:20:05 So she finds Esther's diary and tries looking at it. And Esther's like, yeah, that's my shit dog. Yeah, right. And we also see Esther binding in this. Can I ask why she has to? Because she's 10. She stopped growing at the age of 10. She would never have hit puberty. I know. That bothered me a little bit. Because the actual actor didn't, I guess. It just doesn't realize. It's a bit of an inconsistency. Especially since she doesn't
Starting point is 00:20:37 have to do it in the movie that happens after this. Right. It's like in the Star Wars prequel. It's like in the Star Wars prequels where the technology is just way better than it is in the original movies. Oh, right. That makes sense to me as a Star War fan. You love a Sky Wapper. If that's a Wopper Jr. in the sky, I will eat it. That's the Wopper that I pray to. Yeah, Sky Wapper. Man, I believe in a wapper, thi, thuuuuu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thupper, thu thupper, thupper, thus, thus, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. toeeeei. toei. toei. toei. toei. toei. toei. thi. tothe wopper Jr. is the way to go. It's a better ratio of everything. Well, they don't make it impossible. They should.
Starting point is 00:21:09 They only make one wopper impossible. You can get it with and or without cheese. Fair enough. Why would you get it without cheese thrown? I find fast food oil-based cheese. Yeah. Yeah. Cheese that if left in air will return to a gas for her. We also see that Esther's hanging out with what I thought was a rat, but it's I guess a mouse? Yeah, it's her little mouse friend. And you assume at some point she's going to go, because she's a vicious person,
Starting point is 00:21:43 that she's going to kill it. Exactly. Which is not what happens at all. When we meet the cop, what is Detective Donan? Donnan or something? Donnan. D-O-N-N-A-N-N-N-N. That's him. And he's like, hmm, I don't know about this. Yes. Immediately. And also, Julia Stiles and Donald Sutherland's kid are fucking again.
Starting point is 00:22:09 And it's like, oh, this is the kind of horniness that can only, that only getting your missing child back can give you. Oh, this kid is a fucking aphrodisiac. It's a note man. Seriously, couples who are having sex problems should just bring Dick Dar into their home here. She's got Dick Dar Dicdar again. Hello, I'm Esther, you will both will not. But the only thing is, Esther got a watch. Esther gonna be peaking. What was the door closed anyway? They have children in the house. I don't know the last people were fucking in the middle of the goddamn
Starting point is 00:22:42 kitchen. Yeah. But they were getting ready to go somewhere, which makes me think it's like 7 p.m. because they're going to a gala. So it's not that late. It's not going to take me long to get this back on. Isn't it? Oh, God? You don't seem like you may have been able to dress, to to to to dress, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to be to be to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. thooooooooo. tooe. toooooo So Esther gets angry and rips up her dress. Her mom's dress, yeah, yeah, yeah, her mom's dress. And her mom's like, do you know how much I spend on this?
Starting point is 00:23:09 To the husband, yeah. Yeah. Ah, so they go to this gala. Meanwhile, the son, Gunner, is having a little party back at the house. Okay. At his party, yes. Outside the kids are listening to music. They're listening, I almost choked, I like gasped. They are listening to a local Pittsburgh band called the Juliana Theory. Okay. They're from Greensburg. The song that they're listening to was on the record that they put out in like 2000.
Starting point is 00:23:47 And it hit me with such a wave of teenage nostalgia. Like, suddenly I was like packing for college and like working in a pizza shop and playing in the kitchen because I loved this band. Oh, nice. And like my friend Michelle was like in love with the front man, Brett Detter. She would like make a little illustrations of the band and give them to them at shows. Aw. Yeah. So I'm like, I have to look up who did the music in this movie because it has to be someone connected to that scene.
Starting point is 00:24:18 They were like nationally popular though. Very, very, very minorly. Yeah, I mean, not just locally though. No. Really? Yeah, I I I I I I I I I didn't. I they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they thi thi thi thi thi thi thi to thi to thi to thi to thi thi to to thi thi thi thi thi heard of them. Oh, really? Not just locally, though? No. Really? Yeah, I didn't live out here then. Yeah. I guess I just thought they were.
Starting point is 00:24:31 Well, whatever, regardless. So I'm like, who did the music for this movie? Yeah. Brett Dead Art did. I mean, good on you. I would too if I were you, but... Yeah, he couldn't throw the Maxie Pants a Pound? Come on, guy. I just love the idea that he was like, no, these kids are going to be listening to my band, my record that came out 22 years ago.
Starting point is 00:24:55 Smart. Yeah. Yeah. Because the song is really prominent too, because it plays the entire time throughout the scene. Unbelievable. I love it so much. But he said, the kid says to Lena, he goes, go away. This isn't your scene. And I was like, yeah, it's the 1999 Pittsburgh emo scene, of which I am a very active
Starting point is 00:25:16 member. This isn't your scene. I was like, all right, Daddy-O. What you talk about? Talking to a child. Also at this point, I realized the entire movie was being shot with like a Vaseline lens and I don't know why. It's in the past. It's only 2007. She tells her brother, who he describes as being dressed like Lizzie Borden, which I thought
Starting point is 00:25:40 was funny. And she's like, go fuck yourself. Yeah. And the the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the cop the the cop the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thus. thus. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. th the. th. the. the. th. th. th. th. the. th. th. th. funny. And she's like, go fuck yourself. Yeah. And then the cop cruises in again. He just pushes into the party. And it's like, I'm going to use your bathroom. And the kid's like, fine, I'm going out to drink beers and listen to the Juliana theory. And he takes her little record. think she wouldn't notice that there are so many things in her room he could have picked up that aren't the record on the open record player. No she loved
Starting point is 00:26:07 that Duranty. He were really a good detective who had been working on this case he would know that she loved Jimmy Duranty. Jimmy Duranty and the Juliana theory are the two prominent songs in this fucking movie. Yep. That's too funny. So do you think th. That's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the tante? I do. You know what? Jimmy Durrani is my great god uncle. Is Jimmy Duranty from Greensburg? Probably. Everybody of that era is from somewhere around here. It's true.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Man, Esther has her own bathroom. I wish I had my own bathroom. And it's luxurious. So nice. I didn't have to share a bathroom with anyone. That's the thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. that that that that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. th. thi. that's that. that's that. that's that's that's to share a bathroom with anyone. That's the ultimate luxury. Yeah. Shitting somewhere that only you shit. I mean, what could be better? Who could be richer? So Esther pulls some shit where she goes and like turns on the shower and then rolls out of the house? Yes. It goes to the cop's house. How did she get that
Starting point is 00:27:09 detective's home address? Yep. Okay. Uh-huh. And Julia Stiles gets home, yeah, finds that she goes into her room, finds the diary again. It's like Julia Stiles, she fucking said that was private. Yeah. She finds a picture of her new adoptive parents. Yeah. With her moms, not her new adoptive parents, her parents. Her parents. Yeah, with Julia Stiles and Dumb Dumb. Yeah, Julia Stiles and Dumb. And she has crossed the face out of Julia Stiles. Which like, fair enough.
Starting point is 00:27:37 And so we go to the, uh, oh, and she finds the Sarna Institute, inscript, what's that? And thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thii. thi. thi. thi. thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah,, and she finds the Sarna Institute inscription in it, which also gives her away in the second movie. And she says, Sarn Institute, what's that? And why would you go to the kid first? Because she immediately busts into the bathroom. Why would you not talk to someone or Google it or anything? I mean, I understand now why see Esther at the cops house. We have no idea how she got there. No. Also he's doing his own fingerprints, huh? No lab? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean you can do all that shit at home now. What with COVID? It's true. Work from home has gotten a lot better,
Starting point is 00:28:16 but it is, to be fair, 2007. And so, um, he had cut up an apple or something with a knife and then of course that knife is now missing because Esther is going to stab them in the back of the head and then stabs him a whole bunch of times. Yeah, he's looking at this picture or whatever and he's like or the fingerprints he's now that they're not a match. Yeah. Because he does run them through the computers. And the computer says if you do that on Google. Oh really? No. I'm not a cop, I don't know these things.
Starting point is 00:28:46 He says, if you're not Esther, who the hell are you? And then she stabs him in the back of the head. Then what happens? The movie said, Alan, are you losing faith in this movie? Because fuck it. Yes. Mom walks in and blows the cop away with a gun. Shoot him like six times and just goes, damn it!
Starting point is 00:29:06 This movie has turned on its ear. And then mom says, I'll do anything for my kids. Cut-to scene of her going, so you're a grown-ass woman? To Esther. So Esther looks her and she goes, mummy? And Julia Stiles goes, the fuck are you looking at, which I liked a lot. She you're a, has, this, this, this, this, this, this, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie. This this movie. This this movie. This this movie, this movie. This. This is this movie. th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. this movie, th. this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this is this movie, this is this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, this movie, Stiles goes, the fuck are you looking at? Which I liked a lot. She's a grown-ass woman, and your whole plan was to come in here
Starting point is 00:29:31 and steal some blipety blap and then do some thingy-thing. And I know you're not my daughter because my son killed my daughter. This is such a John Binae Ramsey thing. Fucking wild. It's so, I mean, like the prevailing theory on the internet is that John Beney's brother killed her and then the parents covered it up. And there is a lot of evidence that could point that way. Right.
Starting point is 00:29:52 Yeah, some real to the real thrown-in-a-shit. Which is funny because I thou, Yeah. The Google Real Orphan. The real orphan. Just have to Google it. Which we'll get to at the end of this episode. So I was like, oh, that's kind of gross that they're doing that. And then they aren't doing that, but they're doing some John Binae, which is also gross. So clearly John Beney. And so, mom takes Esther back home, because she's like, I can't get rid of you now because you just got home. So be cool. They each know something about the other.
Starting point is 00:30:30 Yes. And Julia Stile says to her, you play the part and live a life anyone would kill to have, or you take the fall for this and get shipped back to Estonia and handcuffs. It's so fucking good. Wow. I'm 100,000% on board. Mom and Gunner have a discussion where mom's like, yeah, you know how you killed your sister? That girl's not your sister?
Starting point is 00:30:50 He's like, yeah, doy. Doy. And she's like, we got to be cool, all right? He's ready to kill again. as this is. He says this is insane even for us. Yes. Which is like have you done other things? Yeah. My next note is oh it's just a mouse not a rat. Yeah, just a little mouse. Yeah. Well not a little mouse, big mouse. It's a pretty big mouse. But their buddies now. She's training it and hanging out with it. Yeah. And so she's going to train Esther to be a better liar. Is she going to give like Esther notes? Yes, so yes, but in the meantime we also see that their 16 year old son is teaching the father how to shoot a crossbow? Yeah,
Starting point is 00:31:33 how did he learn to shoot a crossbow? Yeah, because his mom's a sees his own gold killer. Yeah, I guess so. So yes, they go back to the therapist. And Julie Stiles is like we're just going th. We're going going going going going going going going going going going th. We're just going to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. to to be to be to to to to to to back to the therapist. And Julie Stiles is like, we're just gonna make her believe it. Right, and so she has fed Esther this amazing story that Esther recounts and everyone's like, yay! He's like, oh yeah, there was dirt in your teeth for days. Why was there dirt in your teeth for days? You can brush them, you're allowed. What? What? What? What? And mom, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th's, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea, the. th breast binding now? Yeah. I was like, this is just getting weirder and fucking weirder. Weirder and weirder. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:08 She buys her all these clothes and she's like, what's your favorite color? Pink! It's super weird. Super weird. Yeah. So she's got her a dress because her friends are coming over. Yeah, thrown their friends are the thiiiiiiiks. thiks. thii. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi's is thia's thi. thi. thi's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. toeeeea. toea. toea. toea. toea. toea. thiiiiiiii. thi. thi. thito have your friends over to your house. But I always put on a gout when you come over. You're wearing sweatpants? No, these are regular pants.
Starting point is 00:32:28 These are my new skinny jeans. Oh, I can, I got confused because I'm the one wearing sweatpants to your home. It does look like I'm wearing pajamas, but it's just a jeans. No, no, no, no, no. It was really just a the way just a the way just a the way just a the way just a the way. It's just just just just a the way. It's just just a the the th. It's just a th. Oh nice. I love a stretchy gene. I don't know how I went this long in my life without a stretch. It's torture. Yeah. We have to wear really big jeans. Yeah, it's true.
Starting point is 00:32:51 So she's like, yeah, friends are coming over. You're gonna impress them with your piano skills. You're gonna play pi-a-ni for him. Probably, who knows? Yeah. And Gunner's waiting for her in her room and says, I'll kill you like I killed Esther, like I killed Esther. Yes. The fuck? The fuck. And Julia Stiles is in the kitchen with like sleeping caplets?
Starting point is 00:33:12 Oh, right, right. Right. Right. Capsals? Capulets is not something. the capulets. Yeah. And she is talking to to to to to to her to her to her to her to her to her to her to to to to to to to the the they. they. they. toe they. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I'm. And she is talking to herself while dumping them into Esther's food saying you're going
Starting point is 00:33:28 to sleep well tonight. 100% thought she was doing this to the husband. Yes, why was she doing that to Esther? Who cares if Esther sleeps well? I don't know. Maybe she's wanted to fuck without a little kid staring at her. I guess, yeah, maybe th maybe, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, thi's to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, th. Oh, what's his name? Sorry, Alan is doing much better now.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Maybe that's why he's a Dumb to? No, I think it's because he's actually a Dumb. I'm projecting. No. She's like, Alan is doing much better now, so don't fuck this up for me. Yeah, right. Because I'm getting railed. I don't want you to stuff it. I'm getting railed. So she makes her her special dinner, which is like box macaroni and cheese and hot dogs It looked like I was like fuck yeah, that's a good dinner. Is it? I love macaroni and hotdogs because I'm 10. Do you love a hot dog? Well, they're like, yeah, I made lamb and mint sauce for the family and you're getting hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. So she lets Esther take it upstairs. Right may have excused. To feeds it to the mousey. Yeah. Mouse ties. Bye-bye, boughs. By my mouse. And what does that do for Esther?
Starting point is 00:34:40 It pisses her off. Yep. Uh-huh. And here I wrote there are moments where it really shows that she's 25, you know. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thee. the. the. the. the. Uh-huh. And here I wrote, there are moments where it really shows that she's 25, you know. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, she just looks like an adult. Yeah, because she is. Yeah. She's just a regular adult. Yeah. Just regular-ass adult. Yeah. So I'm not sure how Julia Stiles figures out that she was trying to fuck Dum Dum. She sees her through the window because there's a window where she can watch DumbDome in his art studio turning his lights on and off. Right, oh my god, on off, on off, all fucking day. Works of the electric company this guy. And so they take like a selfie together and they get real close and And Julia Stiles is like fuck thumumumumumumumumumumumumum dumb thum dumb thum dumb thum dumb thum dumb thum dumb thum thum thum thum thum thum thum thum thum thum thum thum thum out out out out out out out out out out out out out out thum out out out th th thum thum out thum out thum out th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. She sees thu-ss thu-s thu-s thu-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-s thu-s thu-s thu-s take like a selfie together and they get real close and Julia Stiles is like, fuck this shit and she goes in and she sends dumb dumb out of the room and then she's like I'm gonna go upstairs and fuck my husband.
Starting point is 00:35:32 She says to her he'd be as repulsed by you as I suspect most men are. Yeah and that's very mean and very true but very mean yeah I'm gonna go upstairs and fuck my husband. So this is what she finds out that the mouse has been killed. And what does she do with that mouse? Well, the next morning she makes a smoothie for her mother. And Julia Salsa's like, no, I don't want it, thank you, no thank you, I'm good. And Dumbed's like, drink, chug, a smooth. Cale. I usually put rocks in. You don't like rocks. Your teeth are broken. I'm a dumb-dum.
Starting point is 00:36:11 But so she dumps the smoothie and there's a fucking rat in it. Which is so reminiscent of the dead bird and whatever happened to baby Jane. And I thought maybe that's a nod. I hope it's a nod. I'm seeing how much I love that movie? I'm assuming. Yeah. Right now people are turning down their volumes because I think I'm going to sing I'm not, I'm too tired. So then their dad's got to go into the city. And he's like, hey, Esther, you won't come with me in a city? And she's like, I'd love to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to come. I to come. I to come. I to come to come to come to come to city. And mom's like, yeah, Esther and I had plants. We didn't have plants.
Starting point is 00:36:46 Well, I had plants for us. Yeah. And she's manipulating her husband a lot too, just being like, well, you guys have art together, and I just don't have anything like that with her, and I'm just trying to find something we can bond that's a good idea. So what happens on the train platform? Esther tries to run both mom and son off the train platform? With like a portfolio holder kind of thing, like a tube that holds rolled up art.
Starting point is 00:37:14 And dad has shown her that he's taking her art to the city to show to the art man. Yeah, to the art man. It's not that good. And then some Nick Nulty mothi moth-fucker, mothi, mothi, mothi, mothi, mothi, mothi, mothi, mothi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu. And, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thi, it, thu, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi, thi, thi, thi, it's thi, it's th. It's th. It's not thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. motherfucker like picks her up. He's like, hey, kiddo, watch out there. And Julia Stiles was like, you think you can fucking kill me? Our arrangement is over. You are dead. And I was like, yes! She turns to her son and she's like, hold this coffee. It task like fucking garbage. Just like she is just rich, bitch, mean mode. And it's pretty fun. Oh, it's so fun. th. that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's just just that's just that's just that's just just just that's just just that's just that's just that's just that's just that's just that's just that's just that's that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's like, that's like, that's like, that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that's a that's a that's a that's a that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. that. that. that. Oh it's so fun. Yeah. Is this when Esther Maces the brother? He has a coming. Yeah, gonna be shit. Goner. I only refer to him as bro in my notes. Okay good. She steals their car. Stills their Land Rover. Yes and she's driving it she turns on the radio and
Starting point is 00:37:59 maniac is playing. Of course it is. I thought, I'm a steel town girl on a Saturday night sometimes. I love that that song was written for the horror movie Maniac, the original one from the 70s. And then, like after the guy saw Maniac, he wrote that song and then like revised it to be in the movie that it ended up being in. I think that's really funny. That is really funny. Yeah. So she's wearing these. Like the the the the th the th th th th th th th th th th th the the the the the the th the the the the the th the the th the the th th th the the th th th. I th. Yeah. So she's wearing these like rich aviators and smoking cigarettes. Yeah. The cop pulls are over. And she's like, all right, well I'm gonna just tossle myself up, make myself look all sexy. Wom, Lady Cop. Lady Cop. You're not Bert Reynolds. What are you doing here? At this point I wrote, it actually pleases me to know that Esther's going to be the one who gets out of this alive, which is so not a way I expected to feel, right?
Starting point is 00:38:51 No. Yeah. So the cop takes Esther home and it's like, hey, I found this. This is yours? Yes, and Julia Stiles is like, she's been back, things have been really hard, I really appreciate this. And she's like, oh and I called her dad too. Why would she have called the dad? Okay, fine. And dad's like, come home?
Starting point is 00:39:11 I come home. I come home. I come home because I'm on train. I also just like have a hard time believing that Julia Stiles and Bro could both be putting on this face for the dad th dad thage thage thage thage th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thiole. thiole. thioll. thiolome thi. thiol-I's just just thiol- thi. thi. th. th. to to to to to to to to th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. both be putting on this face for the dad for four years. Sure. It seems crazy. I, ugh. The idea of the guilt would eat me the fuck alive knowing any of that information.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Yeah, I cannot keep a secret like that. Not like that. Good God now. Ugh. Gross. Yeah. Um, so dad's coming home. Uh, Gunner is going to fence her to death, I guess. Yeah, I didn't think those sharp. I didn't think those swords were actually sharp. There, they have like a thing on the tip to keep them from me able to poke through
Starting point is 00:39:56 you, but yeah, they're sharp. Oh, you can just take the tip off. Yeah, see. Yeah. Yeah. the the the tip. Yeah. th. Yeah. tip. th. th. tip. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi thi thi thi tip tip tip tip tip tip off tip off tip off tip off thi. Yeah, thi. We both have to shoot out of the house now. Yeah. Don't think I wasn't thinking of just the tip joke. Oh yeah, I know you were. I saw it in your eyes, so I just went ahead and said it for you. Just the tip in my eyes. Yeah. To see how it feels.
Starting point is 00:40:15 Bink. So, he does not fence Esther to death, though, does he? No, she gets him with a crossbow. Yeah. And then stabs him a Brazilian time. She can't stab once. No. She's like a fucking Trump fan. Can't just have one bumper sticker?
Starting point is 00:40:36 Yeah, right? Jesus Christ, gotta cover the whole windshield. Can you see, you see freedom? Who need to see freedom. Man, I let a lady out in traffic the other day who did not thank you waive me, who did not even acknowledge that I let her out, and I was so pissed and she pulled in traffic and she had a trump sticker and I was like, of course! they! Makes me so upset.
Starting point is 00:40:59 So, Julia Stiles sees that Esther has killed Gunner. Yes. And she is pissed? She is so upset. And she starts throwing Esther around like a fucking rag doll. Yeah, I mean like, this is when I realized that she has the strength of a 10-year-old. And then I wrote, I could kick the shit out of a 10-year-old, and then a few minutes later, but maybe not. I love that their stove just catches the whole house on fire when someone bumps
Starting point is 00:41:26 it. I know, because you realize at some point that the house is going to burn down because we know that that's what happened to her last family. Yeah, but yeah the whole thing goes up. And at this point I have a note that says, why didn't she just go to Moscow and gothat's not actually my daughter. Because she wanted to fuck her husband, she wanted her husband back. I guess. But that's not worth it. I don't know how much do you want to fuck dumb dumb. That dumb-dum dick could not be that good. Maybe he has a big crank.
Starting point is 00:41:58 Huge crank. Huge crank. Yep. So yeah, the house is now burning up like it's made of fucking dryer lint. He's going up so quickly. And they are climbing up to the roof. Why? Yeah. I would never climb up to that roof. No, because it's like 12 stories high.
Starting point is 00:42:28 Yes. And the CGI flames in this house is burning it are just so nice. You're not gonna look at that. You're gonna look at the people. Yeah. So Alan comes home and finds the house ablaze. What is this? It's hot? Oh, my wife told to me to me to me to me to me to me thau my wife to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the too. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thooooooooooooooooooooes. tooes.? It's hot. Oh, my wife told me not to my hands in these. He's like, is it this or the bathtub? No, it's this. So he runs up onto the
Starting point is 00:42:58 roof where the two women have now slipped and are hanging off the roof and he's gonna have to choose to save one. Which, I have to say, I'm sorry to spoil this for you, but this is the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the th th th th the th th th th the thi the thi thi the end thi the end thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the the the thin, the thi. Which I have to say I'm sorry to spoil this for you but this is the ending of the good son. This is the end again. Again the good son with this movie franchise. Yes it is. It is. Julia Stiles is like hey dog like I'm your wife and stuff and she's a grown-ass adult. She's saying she's an adult and he's like what what are you talking about? And then Julia Stiles falls and explodes like a blood-filled bag that she is. Her brain is just smashed all over the sidebock. It's like a little curb. Yes. And just pshh everywhere. So good. So great. And so he's trying to save Esther by grabbing her by the face, I think. Yeah, I wouldn't, I don't think that's where I'd pull someone up by, but you know, to each their own. I remember some friends of
Starting point is 00:43:53 my told me they were on a cross-country trip one time and they stopped at the Great Salt Lake and one of them like walked further out than everybody else thi..... And it th. And it th. And th. Oh I didn't know that. And he like fell up to his knees and couldn't get back out so somebody ran up and grabbed it by the head to pull it back out. I always think about that image. It's very funny. But like I guess like when he pulls her like, when he like, they false teeth fall out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out she's also covered in blood and their her like bloody false teeth fall out and he's like what? You are an adult which I just also don't think that would be my first reaction. I'd be like what is happening? Well he got these wild-ass teeth. What has happened to your teeth? And so she like falls off the roof or she pushes him off.
Starting point is 00:44:47 I think she tries to kiss him maybe? He's like, oh no. Ew, not wife? Yeah. Ooh, you child. He doesn't explode as well, a lot less exciting. Yeah. And that's how she ends up in the orphanage.
Starting point is 00:45:03 She walks out of the fucking house while firefighters are not fighting the fire. No, they're like, fuck it, let it burn. Fuck the rich. And they're like, what are we going to do with her? And I guess we'll put her in foster care. Yeah. And my lesson is just watch out CCH Pounder. Yeah, but they were like, someone says, what will th, what will, what, what, what, what, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, someone says, what will happen now? And I wrote, what will happen now? CCH Pounder will happen now.
Starting point is 00:45:27 I am so surprised by how much I enjoy this movie. It sounds like we are going to a ratings phase. Shall we go to ratings phase? I am attracted to ratings phase with my dick dar. You be Esther, I'll be dumbed-dad. What? You rate movie. What? I think this movie is eight sets of false teeth.
Starting point is 00:45:52 It's a guy. Like when it does the flip, when you're like, oh no. Yes. I was like, I'm 1,000 percent. As much as I got on board with how stupid the movie the other movie was this one I'm like yes Yeah, please be stupid. Yes because this movie opens absurd this movie opens with you could drop that accent like an Estonian security guard It opens with like really leaning hard into the stupidity of the first movie I think which I didn't really like right I was like Jesus Christ this is gonna be such a
Starting point is 00:46:29 slog and then what again when the flip happened I was like yes I was wrong and I'm delighted to be wrong it's like that Ty West movie we just did X where it lulls you into thinking it's gonna be this one thing and then it flips on you and you're like initially like I think I might be mad at this yes and then you're like oh I'm not mad at this at all man so much good stuff in 2022 no it's crazy about that are we living in a golden age of horror movies silver at least because you think 1980s because you think 1980s in 1986 that the theyn. Yeah, that's probably changed at this point though because we have hit the 2000s very hard recently. I don't know. 1986 there are at least a dozen movies are done. Yeah. Yeah, no, we are living in a

Starting point is 00:47:45 How dare you make me say that phrase? Who are adopted parent even? I'm sorry. Oh my God. Good Lord. But yeah, we're living in a pretty great time. Yeah. I mean for movies.
Starting point is 00:47:55 For what's the most? Well, we've got to have something. And speaking of things that are kind of a bummer, here is a voicemail from a very kind listener who gave us some very important information. Hi, I hope this is World's Ambulance. I wanted to call in about the real-life orphan thing because it's not true. This was kind of a downer, but I'm sort of that guy about this story because I feel bad for the kid. So basically these rich people adopted a
Starting point is 00:48:26 little kid who was a little person and at a certain point they didn't want to raise the kid that they adopted so they legally changed her age to an adult and they got her an apartment and gave her money and left the country. So basically typical like weird rich people stuff. But when people found out about it, they went to the media and told the story that was based on orphan, because this was a couple years after the movie came out. And the story really got picked up and got a lot of click bait to the point that when this girl was like 19, she was trying to go on Dr. Phil and
Starting point is 00:49:06 prove that she was really 19 and not 30 and it just was kind of fucked up. So I want to call in and I really like your podcast. I've been listening for a couple of years and I'm really sorry that I've never called in before about something positive because I think it's really good. Uh, Roooo! Oh, shit. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. something positive, because I think it's really good. Arroo! Oh, shit. Yeah. Yeah. Saved it with that were wreathful at the end though.
Starting point is 00:49:31 Yeah, I did really like that. I did really like that. Wow, thank you for letting us know that. Can you just change somebody's age? I mean, I guess if you're rich or just do it illegally or... Yeah. Wild. Yeah. Wild. Yeah. That's awful. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The whole premise of these films is fucking terrible.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Oh yeah. But for some reason they made them a riotous joy for me. Yeah. I mean, I came into this so cynically saying like, oh, prequels are always better. Yeah. But it is so much better to me than the other movie. Because it's so ridiculous. It's not even that. It's just unexpected in a way that is like somehow more believable than her being a 33-year woman, because when they revealed that in the last movie I lost my mind in the worst way. And Julia Stiles is such a fucking delight. Yeah, I am shocked by how much I liked her in this. She's so good. Because you come out of the gate being like, oh, she's pretty bad in this and then you realize it's just because she's been hiding this fact. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:34 And I guess Juliana theory. Yeah, there you go. And your love of Jimmy Durante. Ha ha ha ha. Emm. Emmotion is dead. That was the name of the record. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the game. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Now I want to hear Jimmy Duranty covering my chemical romance. Wow. Can someone make this happen for me? Someone will to please do this for Alan. He needs it in his life. Oh, speaking of fans being amazing, go to our subreddit. Yeah. And look at the suicidal tendencies meme.
Starting point is 00:51:17 Yes, I love it so much. I send it to the second I saw it. Made my friend to the podcast, Colin. And it is so fucking funny. Cullen's working on a website for us and it's being held up only by my own steps that I need to take. Cullen, I'm sorry. Cullen's so nice. He just keeps being like, it's fine, it's fine. And I'm like, no it's not. And he's like, no it is. No, you're right. You're not a good pianist. Sorry, that was last week's movie. Well, anyway.
Starting point is 00:51:48 But yeah, again, I encourage everyone to go to the subreddite to delight. People are talking about what kind of stuff they're going to do for spooky season. I really like the folks on there. A lot of fun. I love when someone is like, what's the episode where Alan says putting rain in a little cup or something and someone else pulls it out? I had no idea what that one was about. No, I did not remember saying that I was standing up and shiting while saluting the flag because you said it. Oh I don't remember saying you as soon as I leave here it's like nothing happened. I love it that people like listen to these episodes over and over so they have the phrasings
Starting point is 00:52:25 that we've said and we're just like, I don't know, fart. Dick joke, huge crank. Oh God, I hate us. I love them and I hate us but I love you and I only hate myself. What are we doing next week? Katie, Alan. Let's keep it spooky. Let's go Halloween specific. Okay. Let's do a movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie. Starting point is 00:52:45 What's that? Go to an extreme haunted house where they can tou? They can tou? They can touch you. They can tou. Do they make those? Oh, Katie. You have to sign waivers. I would never waive my rights to not be touched by another person. They can touch. They can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can they can th. What if they like assault you? It's extreme haunted house. How far does a waiver go? Are you an attorney? Get into it? There's a documentary, I want to say it's on Shutter, that's about extreme haunts. And there's like a dude in, I'm gonna say Texas, because it sounds right, sure, who you sign a waiver and he waterboards you. No my God! He like does all this insane shit to people where it's just like, oh he's a sadist. Yeah. And he's getting off on doing this sick shit to people.
Starting point is 00:53:33 This is just like a Craigslist ad. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's terrible. Yeah, and like it keeps like the city keeps her to shut him down. Yeah. Starting point is 00:53:53 It's terrible. Yeah. There's footage of Christopher Hitchin's, the philosopher guy. the philosopher guy was like, how bad could waterboarding be? Oh my god, it's really scary. So he was like, do it to me. I want to see how bad it is. And like three seconds, he was like,
Starting point is 00:54:10 fuck, this is the worst thing I've ever had in my life. This is awful that they're doing this to other people. And it's like, yes, is bad. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we're gonna do haunt. Okay. Spooky season, baby. I hope you're planting those Halloween seeds in your tummy. Uh-huh. Hey we might do a watch-along we'll see.
