Do you like it when people tell you to smile?
Neil.
Katie.
Alan.
Do you like it when people tell you to smile?
Never.
But you know what?
It really never happens to me because I don't have much of a resting bitch face.
Oh no. I'm pretty smiling.
I think I sometimes just kind of like, zone out and I'm like, hmm.
So you're just like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like randomly like to like to like to like to like to like to like to like to like to just like, like, to just like, to like, to like, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to.. So you're just like randomly smiling at strangers is what you're telling me.
I think I have a pleasant looking face.
Not unlike the horror movie.
No, much unlike the horror movie.
Smile.
Because what if I looked like that?
Just standing at the street corner and making that big smile.
I have a face that makes people want to tell me their god, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their tho thi thi ell me their goddamn life story I'll tell you what I feel like mind vacillates between that yeah people were like oh fuck Santa Claus here let me

Thinking on bad news is a birth defect. Yeah, before we get going on this,
just a heads up, I guess trigger warning. Yeah, I think so. There's a lot of discussion of suicide in this episode and in this movie. And it's a tough time of year anyway.
988 is the suicide and crisis lifeline.
You don't even have to remember an 800 number now.
Just dial 988 and get someone who can help.
Yeah, and do it because you're worthwhile and we love you.
Yeah, and we do love you.
Oh, so this movie opens on a dead lady.
Yeah, dead lady laying into bed of her own vomit.
I wrote, I drool a lot too.
When I sleep. Probably because I'm
just dopey smiling in my sleep. Oh, did you watch this on Paramount Plus? I did. Did
you get advertisements? I did. Did you get a trailer for Megan? No, I got a trailer
for something else and I can't remember what it was. Criminal minds? Yes, criminal
minds, yeah. And I was like maybe. An ad for Paramount Plus while I'm watching Paramount Plus.
Which I'm already paying for, Paramount Plus. Which I got, I resubscribed to because I had
canceled it to watch this movie. Oh, did you know? But also, The Crow was on there. Yes,
it was. This is a very Paramount Plus week for us. Yes, yes, yes. And next week we'll be discussing episodes of Criminal Minds. Boom, bomb, wrong show.
Yes, wrong show.
This one has Joe Mantenia.
Yeah.
And Paget Brewster, who I love.
Do you?
I love Joe Mantenia more.
I know.
Remember when I insisted he was really good and thinner?
Yeah.
Even though that pie was finding her mom like this. Yeah. Now what a way to
open your fucking movie. Seriously. I watched the opening scene with Rob and he was like,
nope, and got up and left. And to this movie's credit, it's like, I'm going to set a tone and
I am not going to let up for one hour and 55 fucking minutes. No, foot on the gas. Bl'm bludgeoning you with what I can only describe as trauma porn.
Yes, and not even sexy.
Because if you're going to call it porn, it might as well be sexy.
How do you already come down on food porn?
Do I want to fuck the food?
No, but you can enjoy the curve of a lasagna slice, can't you?
Look at all its ridges.
Yeah, see, you're doing it, you got it, you know.
I'm more of a big Zidi van myself.
Yeah.
That stretch of the cheese.
See, yeah, that's fine.
Oh man, I made sausages, a bun with mozzarella baked in the oven.
God damn. I love it when you say mozzarella.
Mozzarel.
Mozzarel.
So yeah, we open on dead woman.
Yeah. And then our main character wakes up and I wrote, I wish I could fall asleep at work. So tired. Also, when we, we're in the, we're in the, we're in the room, we're in, we're in, we're in, we're in, we're in, we're in the room, we're in the room, we're in the room, we're in the room, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, the, the the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the the the the the the, the, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the, the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. that's, th. the. the. the. th. the, the, the thired. Also, when we're in the, we're in the room with dead mom, we figure that out.
And there are photos of family with dad, family with dad, family without dad, family without
tax.
And there's like, Sigs and drugs and wine and snacks?
there's like partially living the dream until you go too far.
All dreams within moderation is Benjamin Franklin says. As he says. So it continues too far. Sigs and drugs and wine and snacks. All dreams within moderation is Benjamin Franklin.
As he says.
So it continues to say.
So we wake up with Dr. Rose Cotter, who is Kevin Bacon and Kyrus Edwick, yeah.
Once you realize they, you're like, oh my god, you were an amalgam of those two human beings.
Yeah, she's mushed together. I thought she was fantastic in this. tha. tha. tha. tha. I tha. I tha. I was tha. I was tha. I was tha. I was tho. I was thathe's. I was thathe's. Yeah. Yeah. thathe's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. tho. Yeah. thoes. Yeah. thathea. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. th. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. thin. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th., yeah. Once you realize they, like, oh my god, you were an amalgam of those two human beings.
Yeah, she's mushed together.
I thought she was fantastic in this.
Yeah, she's great.
Yeah.
I think all the acting is fine.
I agree.
Cal Penn was, I was excited to see Cal Penn in this.
Yeah, why do I know him. Yeah. And a hundred other movies that he's been in, but that's why you know him.
And I thought he, well, okay, so all the men in this movie are doing like a tender yet
masculine thing.
Sure.
Which I found a little bit annoying, but okay.
And seemingly like, upon watching this totally told from her perspective, because no one is
supporting her in any way, shape, or form in this movie.
No, they all behave as though they should, but they don't.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. But also no one is much of a bad guy, except Trevor little bit right which is also she's doing
this like apologizing thing all the time and putting everything on herself which
that makes sense then that she would see all of these men as being like like
you know she's being kind of told off by her boss cowpen for admitting a
patient that she knows doesn't have insurance right and then he's like all right to just run by me next time okay all right have a great day you're like oh you you you you you th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho thi the the tho tho tho the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th's like, all right, well, just run to buy me next time, okay? All right, have a great day.
And you're like, oh, you're not a bad guy.
You're just under a lot of pressure
of this fucking shitty US health care system.
Which, like, it then feeds into it once she starts seeing things.
Yeah.
Because she's seeing people act in ways that they're they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are not they are not they are not they're they're not acting in. Right. Right.
And there's also, so anyway, she's there, she goes to talk to Calpan and he's like, hey,
you should go home.
You've been here for like 12 days.
Yeah, why doesn't she go home?
She gets a phone call.
Somebody needs help.
It's a rough job to choose for someone with a lot of drama. Yes. We we we we we we we we we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, she. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. to to thi, thi, thi, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th, she is is is is th. She, she is th. She, she is th. She is th. She is thi. She is thi. She's is thi. thi. thi. thi. thee the thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. She's thoooooothe few haven't watched the movie. She is a emergency psychiatric war doctor. Right.
Yeah, right. That was a rough job. And she was the child who found her mother. Right.
You can tell because they put that mole on that kid. Yeah. And we learned that like right up from
the jump so you know she is dealing with and we see that she did not help her mother.
Do we see that now?
I think we don't see that until later.
Oh, because when we first see it,
like when she's having the dream flashback,
yeah.
Which mine would definitely be on a roller coaster,
or something else,
I would never have a dream that that's that lucid it would always be something weird going on. She's just standing there. Right, but her mother's already dead at that point that we cut into it. Yeah, that's true.
That's true. That's true. That's true. So yes, she's leaving. She's got her code on and
then she gets a phone call and she has to run back. And she's they're admitting a new patient that they need help with. Laura Weaver. th. th. th. th. th. T, th. T, th. T, th. T, th. T, th. T, th. T, th. T, th. T, th. T, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's the, the, the. That's the. That's the. That's the. That's the. that's theat. that's that's theat. theat. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. that too much. Not really. Oh, you like to hear your friend's names.
I guess so.
It's a pretty tragic character.
She is a college student who had several days earlier been witness to the death of
one of her professors bludgeoning himself to death with a hammer.
With a hammer. To which I thought, can you bludgeon yourself to death with a hammer?
Sure.
I don't think so.
You'd have to be quick about it.
You'd have to be quick about it.
And I feel like immediately they're going to suspect her of murdering him if she was
the only witness present for it because generally people don't bludgeon themselves to death of the hours. Yeah. And even when she's told that, she goes, what?
Huh?
Which kind of brings up something,
talking with someone on our discord
about how they felt about this movie.
They were talking about how it kind of like...
It's a movie about mental illness that does not handle mental illness well.
No, it's very hamfestoed. Yes. And like, and like, and like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it, it, it, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, th. th. th. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. And, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. And, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi. thi. th. th. th.-fisted. Yes. And like, yeah, it just like, it does not address
obvious things that are going on.
And then there's like, oh, but it's a monster.
Spoiler alert.
Yeah.
So it's like, because you couldn't do that yourself.
You could not beat yourself to death of a hammer.
No. No one's that quick about it. Exactly. So the fact that what we learn at the end of the movie
is like, oh, that's kind of even more dismissive
of mental illness.
Right.
Which is weird because like this movie is basically, it follows or the ring.
Yes, yes.
Something happens to you, X amount of days later, you're fucked.
Or even like lightly final destination. Like we've seen this play out before. the, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, the, the, the, the, the, the, th, th. the, th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, is like, is like, is like, thi, thi, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is, is, is, is, is, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, the, the, the, the, the. Yeah, thate na, thateateateatea, thoomoomoomorrow, like, thoomorrow, like, like, like, that, like, like, like, like, like, that, th fucked. Or even like lightly final destination. Like we've seen this play out before.
But I mean, and like, the setting it in,
setting it in a mental hospital like,
put you in a certain mood going into it.
Like you're already, there's already an amount of tension there.
Because you're like, oh, I don't like seeing people in distress.
Right. This is going 't like not knowing what's going to happen. Exactly, this is going to be hard to deal with. So like, it's an interesting thing to do,
but like they could have handled it differently.
It doesn't feel very sensitive.
Yes, yeah, for sure.
Yeah.
Yes, she meets with Laura,
who's freaked out and like standing in a corner when she finds her, It's a big room that they have sessions in. The intake room is the size of my whole house.
I do like that the hospital is very brightly painted.
Yeah, we're used to seeing a drab hospital.
Yeah, it's interesting.
There's like a lot of pinks and light blues and stuff.
Laura's explaining to her that she's being followed by some sort of entity.
She says it looks like people, it pretends to be someone I know or a random stranger.
It wears people's faces like masks.
Right.
Which is a good creepy.
Yeah, but also like a sure fire sign of a mental illness going on.
Right.
That level of paranoia.
Yeah.
So yeah, that's hard to watch. It's like, oh, I'm really like, and she's, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that, that, that, that, that, that, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, th. th. th. th. that, th. th. th. thi. thi. thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi. thi. thi. thi. that's thi. thi. thi. thi. that's hard to watch. It's like you're like, oh, I'm really, and
like she's kind of out of it because she's so tired and trying to deal with this woman.
I'm like, you think you're going to help, but you can't.
There's a real lack of self-awareness around Dr. Ruth Cotter. Yes. Yeah, she's, Laura is freaking out and like yelling at her that she's not listening. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to, to, to, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. th. to, th. to, to, to, th. to, to, to, th. and like yelling at her that she's not listening to
her.
Yeah, she goes from sort of like calmly describing it to yelling that she's not listening to
her to screaming like no, no it's here basically.
Yeah.
And then she switches.
Yeah.
Looks great.
She's. Yeah. Looks great. She's the best. Best smile on the movie.
Yeah, for sure.
Or maybe the one of the, what's that?
The therapist?
I thought the therapist was great too.
Uh, the woman at the party.
Yes, she was also very good.
Yeah.
Did you see the ad campaign for this movie that they in the movie. So, great job. Yeah. 100%. So now she's smiling and she's holding a shard of glass from a vase that she's broken. And she cuts her throat.
She gives herself a Chelsea smile, if you will. She's a lot of blood. Yeah, yeah, those
are bleeding parts. And she falls down, still smiling. And then she's dead, still smiling. And what did Dr. Rose Cotter do while she was cutting her throat? She ran out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. And, th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. theee. thi. thi. thea. thi. thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, do while she was cutting her throat? She ran over and picked up the red phone?
She picked up the red phone and then turned around.
Right.
She picked up the red phone when she was on the floor
seemingly having some sort of seizure.
Yeah.
She did nothing while that woman.
the woman.

Getting sued.
And then there's a sort of like upside down car driving shot, which I thought was very
lovely.
I refer to that as the A24 upside down shot.
There you have it. I feel like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a I feel like that's in a lot of A24. midsummer when they're going to like the the ground where everything is and like and I was like
oh because this shot happens a few times. Too many times for my taste yeah. So is this like the switch that like okay now it's. It seemed that way until they did it like with more consistency towards the end of the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the the the the the the movie. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. they. they. they. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. te. te.s.s. te.s.s.s. te.s.s. the.s. the. the.s. the. the. the. the. it like with more consistency towards the end of the

She walks into her house and there's a cat and I was like, hope that cat lives.
Mustache.
Mustash.
Mustash.
Although, was it Mr. Mustash or just mustache?
It was just mustache. Yeah.
That's a fine name.
that's a sophisticated.
Yeah. Sir mustache. Signor mustache.
Senior mustache. I used to call my cat Mr. Poupi's the Signor. Yeah. I used to call
I used to call I could be a regal cat. They were. They were truly, truly had an air
about them. Yeah. God rest our souls. Wow. All right. Pizzle. So many tattoos for that cat do I have.
Speaking of tattoos, we see that she has like a wind blowing a tree tattoo, but it looks
like it's straight out of a Dr. Seuss book.
It was like, is that the giving tree?
What did she have?
No, I don't know.
And I also very much dislike her hidden fridge.
Oh, yeah. There's a, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I th. th. th. I thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I th. th. th. th. thoom. thoom. immediately. Please don't ever make any more of the show because it was perfect. Perfect. It was perfect.
Y'all, hot tip Karen Piri. It's a Britbox original. Yeah. It's so good and her outfits are like, can I pull that off? No. Could I wear that? I thought the same thing and then I was like, no, you cannot wear a t-shirt,
a knitted vest and a fanny pack, which they call a bum bag. Because they call their fanny,
their front parts. Anyway, she's in her drinking wine, like she's just staring off into nothing.
She finds blood on her shirt from this woman slitting her throat in front of her.
Like, it's fucking so traumatic.
And then she closes the hidden fridge door, and Laura's there in the darkness.
Yeah, she is. Very scary.
And then there's a jump scare of her boyfriend. He's like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi's thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi's thi. thi's thi. thi. thi's, thi. the the thi. the the the the thi's just just just just just just just just just just just thi. And then there's a jump scare of her boyfriend. He's like, oh, did I scare you by shouting your name into the silent darkness?
Like, yeah, you fucking did? He is the worst. I don't know what she sees in him. He's nothing but mean to her. Well, he's doing a tender but masculine thing too, where he's like, oh baby, baby, come here. And like later when she's getting into that argument sort of her brother-in-o, he, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th, th, th, th, th, th, the th, th, their, th. th. their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their th. th. their, their, their their their their their their their their their, their, their, their, the like, oh baby baby, baby, come here. And like later when she's getting into that argument sort of with her brother-in-law,
he's like, Laura would be a doctor for free because she loves it so much.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Tender but masculine. I like this. I like's true. Yeah. So is tender is like.
Sensitive.
It's sensitive but like not open to actually hearing
when people are going through.
Yeah, I think maybe.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I like that.
They're talking about how they have to go to dinner because Holly got a sitter. Yeah. And like it's going to be at more of a headache if they don't go. And I was like, oh no, I'm the headache friend. I got to not be that. No.
Yeah, we'll see. When they go to like I mean, I like all these scenes where
like they go to dinner and her sister's talking and it's just, whop, whop, because she is zoned out. Yeah. And like, and I understand, th. And I I I I I I I I I I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I'm, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. I th. I th. I'm, th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm, th. I'm, th. I'm, th. I'm, th. I'm, like, th. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm, like, like, th. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I a people pleaser and she doesn't want anyone to be upset about anything
So like she doesn't share anything with her boyfriend
Yeah, every time he's like what's wrong? She's like nothing I'm fine and I thought what is your relationship? Yeah, exactly?
When Rob asks me what's wrong, I'm like everything? I would at least be like, oh, you know, I saw a woman slid her own throat today at work.
Bit rough, rough day.
Had a rough one.
Had a rough one.
Shafed me a little.
I'm gonna need a giant marg.
Yes, I need two giant marg.
Yes, I need two giant marg.
One plain, the black cherry.
Oh, black cherry marr. It's pretty deease. Is it just like a slurpy? Yeah.
With tequila.
Please give me that alcoholic slurpy.
Yes.
What is wrong with what you're saying?
Anyway, her sister is like riding her about not coming to a nephew's birthday party, about
working on weekends, about not going into private practice. Yeah. The brother-in-law is like why I become a doctor if you're th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi. thi. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. th. Please. Please. Please. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. th. th. to. th. th. to. their house they are disgustingly rich? Like what are they? They're not
fucking middle class. What are you talking about? It looked like an architect came
into a row of trees and a house came out of the head. It was beautiful. I don't know
what architects do. They blow a load and then suddenly they have a modern monstrosity of a home. All windows all the tie tie tie tie tie toy toy toy toy the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they have a modern monstrosity of a home. All windows all the time.
All windows all the time.
And a fucking hidden fridge.
Anyway, her sister is like demanding that they sell the house, their mother's house.
Right.
It's just sitting there empty.
At first I thought she was living and I was like, what the fuck would you sell
that house?
Yeah, right? Also, you can't tell someone to sell the house they live in. It's a real tear down.
What are you living?
Mr. Mustash thinks it's just fucking fine.
MR. Mustash, yes, M.R.
Mustache.
So she's back at work, and she's being questioned by these cops, one of whom is a real dick
and the other who is also tender yet masculine,. Yeah. And has the my least favorite D'Artagnan facial hair.
It's not doing him any favors but I also tried to picture him with like a fool
beard and it was that wasn't gonna work either. Yeah his facial hair for those
who haven't seen the movie is mustache, mustache on his chin. It is. It's a
double stash. Maybe he should be Mr. Mustache.. I think she named it after him when he left. Perfect. I think she got a cat that had a fur mustache
to remind her of Joel?
I think his name is Joel.
Oh no, it's a detective boyfriend.
It's the only thing I referred to,
I referred to him as detective X.
Detective X. So he like tries to kind of talk to her about how she's to thinininininin, or whatever, and she thin, and she's thin, and thin, and thin, and thin, and thin, and thin, and thin, and thin, and thi, and thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I'm thi, I the thi, I their, I thi, I was their, I was their their their their their their their their their their their, I their, I their their their, I their their, I the the the the the the the the their, I their, I their, I their, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi... I thi. I thi. I thiolooooo-iolo-I thiolou-I thioloo-I thiolo-iolou-I thi. I was thi. I thi. him off. Right. And then woman at the nurses station was like, you know she's engaged, right?
And then she goes, I'm single.
Favorite scene in the movie.
I like her.
At this point I was like, movie, switch gears,
make a romcom, let's go.
Yes, when she later, when Dr. When she said that, I was like, why am I writing my phone number down and passing it to
the TV screen?
Right, man.
Very charming.
Very good.
Very good.
Very good.
Uh, their sister's like, their sister calls her on the phone and sort of apologizes for having been a dick the night before.
Yeah.
And then Rose apologizes for being a dick.
And then her sister's like, well, get your nephew a present.
And it's like, okay, so she really does like well and truly suck.
Yes.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But again, from that like, the perspective of sense that you would hang out with anybody who acted like any of these people.
Right. I like that perspective a lot, because it does explain
why people behave the way they do.
Right, right.
Like, she is so uptight about how people are reacting to her,
that it's like, it's almost crippled her in some ways.
Yes, and you're right, because there are a number of scenes where she walks away with
the person just absolutely hating her.
Like the widow and just every scene she walks away from with the person absolutely hating her.
And it makes you more tense because of course that's your insecurity.
Yes, exactly.
And it like it ramps up too as her paranoia and anxiety ramp up. That's pretty good.
That ramps up as well throughout the movie.
So she talked to the woman at the nurse station and told her to get the file on the previous
incident that Laura was involved in.
Right.
And that's how she finds out about the man smashing himself in the face, smiling at her.
Right.
While he did it.
Meanwhile, she has this interaction with Carl, who is like a seemingly a very non-threatening
patient that they see quite often.
Right.
But now he's doing this like horrible smile and saying, you're going to die, you're going to die.
And so she calls the orderlies and says there's a 5150, which I believe is they're locking you down against
your will. I don't know. I think that's why there was a fan hail and help him call that. Okay, all right.
Okay. But I like this a lot because she like turns around and asked for help and when she turns back,
Carl's just laying in his bed. Yeah, he seemed like he was sleeping. So that interaction that she had with him was completely in her mind.
Yeah.
And I was like, oh, that's good because it doesn't seem like it was until you get that quick
glimpse of him as he's ripped out of bed.
Absolutely.
And then he's so afraid of her.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And CalPen is like, so he's told to fine up until now. Yeah. And it's just like he says to her, you know, you haven't been sleeping, you've been working
too hard, you need a break.
And it's like, how is she not aware of her own mental health enough as a mental health
professional?
Is that a thing?
I think so.
I think it's like doctors that you're doing to yourself. I guess. I think that might actually be pretty common. Okay. Especially in an industry where you're like,
you're short-staffed. Yeah, for sure. And you're like, you really want to help people.
For sure. Because it did seem like she really wanted to help, even if it was as an act of atonement thin thin th for things she didn th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, you're, thi, you're, you're, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the si.... the si, thi, the thi, thi, thi, toeeeea. tooooooooooooooooi. toeauui. toeaui. toeaui, toea, thi, th Right. Right. So he puts her on a week of leave.
And we get the upside-down landscape again as she leaves at the hospital.
Yeah, so is everything fine now?
We've gone upside-down again.
Yeah, I don't know, because she goes to the model hobby store.
And then it like pans down to the smiling people on the model box. And I was like, but th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thoan, thoan, thoan, thoan, thoan, thoan, thoan, thoan, thooooooooooo a miniature person with a big smile in the train set you know what I mean?
Because that would have been too much. I don't know it would have been a bridge true.
No I strongly disagree I would have liked it quite a bit. Why wasn't Mr. Peanut dancing and smiling across the bottom of the screen?
He's he could be very threatening. Oh sure, yeah. It's got that hard out her shell.
So she goes home and she's having more wine
and she's zoned out.
She's pouring these teeny tiny little glasses too.
And then going back for more.
And I thought just pour the glass bigger.
What do you do it?
You tami tail of that glass with wine. Fill that glass with wine. You get a pint glass, you put the wine in it.
Pank glass of chardinay?
And the house alarm goes off.
It is very scary that alarm.
I would shit myself.
So long and so loud.
I never want to live in a house with an alarm system.
No, fuck it.
the parents had one. Oh, really? I would accidentally send. to. to. to. to. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. the the the the the the their. their. their. their. their. their. the the the the the the the their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. the their. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. the the the the like every time it gets set off, the
cops have to come out and make sure everything's okay.
She's like, oh, fuck the shit.
Too scary.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So she's on the phone with the alarm company lady.
Yeah.
Who says, are you sure you haven't let something inside?
Yeah.
And then she's phone rings. She was never on the phone. She says, look behind you.
Yeah. And then she starts to turn. So slowly. So slowly. And then the phone rings. And she looks out on her hand and the phone's
on in her hand. Oh, that is so good. That was good. Yeah. And like, and it's like to the film's credit, you feel like you are losing your grip on reality along with this character.
Yeah, yeah.
Eesh.
Because then her boyfriend gets home from work.
Ugh, this guy.
This fucking guy.
And she can't find the cat and you're like, fucking mustache is definitely dead.
Oh yeah, for sure.
Yeah. For fans of the television show, The Boys, he is the really fast guy on the Boys.
He's a superhero that runs real fast.
Oh, okay.
A-train?
A-train?
A-train?
Okay.
It's a sort of send up of superheroes.
Got it.
Yes.
I was like, oh shit, A-train.
What's up, Doc? He is very, his character, I don't know.
I don't know what to make of him.
Yeah, I don't see, like, how do you become on fianceed to a person that does not know you
and you know nothing about?
Yeah, that's a great question.
Yeah.
So she's dreaming about her mom, which also then goes from upside down to right side up again.
. So she's dreaming about her mom, which also then goes from upside down to right side up again. Yes.
What does it mean something?
I don't know.
It must mean something to the people who made it.
They just didn't clue us in on what that means.
Yeah.
Yes, so she's dreaming about her mom again?
Yeah.
Oh, that's right.
And then I think she was supposed to be hearing something, but I wasn't hearing anything. On the recording?
I don't know.
So she wakes up in the middle of the night
and goes back and listens to the recording of her talking to Laura.
Right.
And it's somebody whispering her name.
Oh, I did not hear that.
Oh, I did not hear that.
that. Oh, I did not hear that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the., you don't need that? No, I don't need that. I'm already tense as piss. This isn't relieving me at all.
Right. Yes, you're making a very tense movie. It's very creepy. There are these like artistic
little touches and then you just have someone screaming rose and it's like, dog. It felt like a conjuring movie when that happened. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. this. this. this. this. this. this. I. I. I'm te. I'm te. I'm te. I'm te. I'm this. I'm this. I'm this. I'm this. I feel like this movie tried to appeal to everyone. Yeah.
Yeah.
So now we're at the birthday party for her nephew, Jackson.
I hated this scene.
I hate this scene.
I hate everything about this scene.
I mean, it's good.
Yeah.
Oh, when they're singing, happy birthday? You can just see her like slipping, her brain slipping. I thought it was great. Yeah, yeah.
So he's opening presents and he opens hers,
which we know is going to be a model train.
Uh-huh, that's exactly what it is,
and that's all it ever is,
and that's all the only thing that happens,
except that she had packed her mustache inside of a box.
Yeah, he's dead. cat and crying and saying it wasn't me. That's such a good mental break. It's so sad. I mean it's so sad but she is I mean she's acting the hell out of it.
Yeah and nobody in the room was like okay well let me take you away from this
and we'll figure out what's going on and we'll get you help. Yeah because she
also sees one of her sister's friends who is like grin doing the grin the smile at her. And she's like please tell tell tell tell tell tell tell tell the tel the tel the the tel the tel the tel the tel tel the the tel tel th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I th. I th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I I I's th. Yeah. I I I I's th. I. I I. I's th. I. I. I. I's. I's. I. And she's like, please tell me you can see her.
Please tell me you can see her.
And nobody's like, oh!
And then she falls through a glass table,
comes up with both of her arms filled with glass.
Yeah.
It just goes, muh! Yeah.
Yeah. It's so primal and sad. It's so sad. Jesus Christ. I must have been very challenging to do. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh man. Mr. Mustash. So her boyfriend takes this very badly. He's a cool guy. Cool guy. He's being less than tender now. You know. Is this why I have the note? He's not very supportive. No, she's saying she's seeing things and she's very, you know, she feels like something is following her and she's really not doing well.
And he's like, the fuck am I supposed to say to that?
You talk about ghosts?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And she's like, no, I'm not talking about ghosts.
I don't know what it is.
Yeah.
Also, these people are this rich and don't have a more comfortable couch to sleep on,
because he's sleeping on like what appears to be the world's most uncomfortable couch.
Come on.
Oh, man.
Oh, man.
Oh, this is when she has the jump scare with the, when she's listening to the recording, because he's home and she points the knife at him and he's like all bugged out at her.
Right, right, right, right, right.
And then the next day she goes to see her shrink.
Yes. Which is delightful.
I liked her.
She's great.
I love her and everything I've seen her in. For Deadwood fans, she's, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. And, tho, tho, tho, th. And, th, th, th, th, th, th, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. And, th. And, th. And, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. Oh, she looks like she could be a Western lady.
Yeah.
So she goes to see the widow of the man who had bludgeoned himself to death with a hammer in
front of Laura.
Yes.
And she tells the whole story about the things that he was seeing beforehand and having
to identify his body and they do a jump scare there where the sheet gets pulled off and his face the face the face the face is the face is the face is th is th is th is th is the face is th is th is th is all th is all th is all th. And his face is all th. th. I his face is all. I tha. I is all. I is all. I's thoe. I's thoe. I's thoomea. I's thoes. I's thoomorrow. I's tooomorrow. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I I's. I. I. I's. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I's. I. I's. I's. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. t. t. t. t. t. too. t t t too. t too. t tooe. to. to. to. to do a jump scare there where the sheet gets pulled off and his face is all jacked up and I just thought,
would they make a loved one look at his face like that?
Like one of them just go blah blah.
Yes, he practically was.
Because his tongue's hanging out and his teeth are all mangled.
Yeah. This is where it becomes very much the ring of her having to go to the different the different, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, go to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the different spots and see what's going on. This takes forever.
I know this is Old Man Yelling a Cloud at this point,
except for her plays Old Man with me.
Movies don't have to be two hours long.
Yeah.
Like, there are parts of this movie
where she's describing the plot to Joel,
but we've already seen it. We don't need this.
But maybe we got up to get some snacks. I'm sorry.
I was getting very angry at the next like 40 minutes of this movie because I felt
like so much of it could have been cut. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, we forgot to mention that
earlier when they're fighting, uh, he points out that mental illness is hered
her. Right. Right. Right. Because he. He basically says he doesn't want to get married to her because he doesn't want to hitch his wagon to crazy.
Yeah. Yeah. It sucks.
But again, did he really say that or did she just think that because she's like breaking down?
Yeah, I don't know. I'd have to talk to the director. Get him on the thrower. Get him on the horn. So she goes and the professor professor's wife's wife's wife wife's wife's wife's wife the professor's wife the professor's wife the professor's wife the professor's wife the professor. The professor's wife the professor. She's wife wife wife wife the professor. She's wife wife wife. She's wife. She's wife. She's wife. She's wife. She's wife. She's wife. He's wife. He's the wife. He's him on the horn. Yeah, so she goes and the professor's wife shows her all
these drawings that he did of smiles and smiling people and then just a black sheet with teeth.
I like that. Yeah. Yeah. It felt very joker to me though at some points. And she also, she has gone
there under the guise of being a journalist. Yeah. But then is like, no, this is actually happening to me too.
And the woman freaks out on her.
Wouldn't you?
I don't know.
Because if you saw your husband go through that,
right, it's true.
I don't know.
Would you want?
I mean, we see movies where people want an explanation of something so badly that they go they go they go they go they they go to all these crazy like roots to get it. Yeah, these lengths that they're here. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah, they don't know. So she goes from, so she leaves there with this woman hating her.
Yeah. And she goes to Jol's. He's got a real nice place for a bachelor cop.
It really does. But he does not loved for them to have had a romantic fuck scene. And then she's like, hey can you show me all these
confidential files? And he's like, yeah, all right. Fug it. So they keep digging
back of police reports with the person who killed themselves and you know they
it four to five days earlier they'd been involved in another incident. Yeah they're finding this chain of like people like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the their, their, their, can, can, can't, can't, can, can their their they, can't, can, can, can, can, can they they they, can their their their their, can, can, can, can their their, can their, can their, can their their they they, can they they they their, can their, can their, can their, can their, can their their, can their their their their, can the five days earlier, they'd been involved in another incident.
Yeah, they're finding this chain of like people,
like basically a chain letter, almost.
And you're like, oh yes, the ring.
Oh, who now?
Yeah.
Yeah.
We see a video of a guy at a gas station,
like killing himself with hedge clippers or something?
Oh, yeah, it kills a woman. Yeah, or no, he kills himself himself himself himself himself himself himself of the woman, right, who then later kills herself. I guess, yeah. Because he's like,
oh yeah, here's footage of the incident that she was in before she killed herself. Right, right.
She's like plucked out her eyes or something, I think, when we see the photo of her. I think? I think so. I don't know. It got to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the th th th th th th th th th th th thu thu thu thi thi thi thi thi their their their thi their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. And is furious.
However, if I murder Glenn, put him in a box, wrap it up and give it to one of my nieces
for their birthday, I hope Rob calls my mental health provider, you know? That's the right thing to do. I think that's the right thing to one of my nieces for their birthday, I hope Rob calls my mental health provider.
You know?
That's the right thing to do.
I think that's the right thing to do.
Yeah.
She's absolutely in the wrong here when she gets mad.
That's all.
She then just leaves.
She leaves and goes to her sister's house. This movie was originally called Rose's Trip. They changed to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the to the to the the the the the the the to the the the the the the the thoom. I. I, thoom. I. I, the thoom. Yep. They changed to smile. Also I hated the opening credits when I went, the smile
shows up and goes, like, blah, blah. Like, stop being a nine-inch nails video. I've seen this.
the 90s. So she goes to see her sister who's like, you sound exactly like mom. Ugh, that had to be awful to hear. But also like you can see how her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her s she she she she th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to to to to to to to to. I can't deal with this.
Yeah, for sure.
And she's like, you weren't around when I was dealing with mom and she's like, yeah, I couldn't.
Right.
She's also like, I was older and I got more of it than you know. She got the brunt of it, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And. And she. Yeah. And the, the th. like, I can't deal with this and goes in the house. And she goes and sits in her car.
And then...
So this is ruined in the trailer.
Oh, I didn't see it.
And I think that is a shit thing to have done.
I loved it, so I'm very glad I didn't see it in the trailer.
What happens?
You see her sister come back to the their, their, the neck down in the outfit that she was wearing walking up to the window of the car while
Rose is kind of just like pulling herself together
She knocks on the window. Yeah, and then all of a sudden her head like disconnects and is
Swings around and is upside down grinning through the window like it was on silly putty like it was yes
Perfect and then but when we sort of zoom out we just see rose in the car screaming at nothing?? the the the the the the the the the th, th, th, th, th, the th, th, their, their, th, their, their, th, th, their th, th, th, th, th, th, thus is kind thus is just thus is kind thus is kind thoes, thoes, thoes, thoes, tho, thus is just just thus is just just just just th. th. th. th. th, just just just just just just just just just just just th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th is just th, like th, like th, like th is just just just their their their thus is just just just their their thus, like thus, like thus, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, but when we sort of zoom out, we just see Rose
in the car screaming at nothing. And with her nephew watching. And I was like, yes to Jackson's
trauma. Yes. So this movie is just all about like how we share and pass trauma onto each other.
Right. Wow. I hate it. I mean, this is a thing that I struggle with very much
as a person who had a very traumatic childhood
and is now raising a child.
And like how much time I spend worrying
about passing trauma onto her.
And what I'm doing as a result is passing on worry to her.
You know what I mean?
Right. It sucks. You yeah, yeah. Oof. Stupid. So the X has done some digging.
And he finds out that 20 people have been infected by this thing,
but there's only been 19 suicides.
In this excruciatingly long scene of them discussing it in the car,
and it's just like they recap the first half of the movie.
And then, and then?
Sox.
None of them survive longer than a week.
Today was my fourth day.
Oh man, this is just like the ring.
Yes.
I'm so sad for you, lady.
This is where it started to slip away from me.
Yeah. They find, so the guy who did not kill himself himself the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, they, they, they, they, they, they, they they they, they they they they they they they, they they they they they they they they they they they they they they, they they they they they they, they they, they, they they, they, they, they, they, they, thi. they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they're, they're, they're, to to to to, to to to to to to tho.. the. they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they they the guy who did not kill himself in this chain the accountant yes an accountant named tally
Very similar to Arnold Tasselman of the controller of hell hell's two LLC
He murdered some lady instead of killing himself
Right, right. He had to and you have to do it in like a very dramatic way. Yeah, it says a need it needs to be there. It needs to be there because it needs to be their? It needs to be to be to be to be to be the the to be the to be their to be their to be to be their to be to be to be to be their their to be their to be to be to be to be their their their their their their to be their their tally tally. tally. tally. tally. tally tally tally tally tally tally. to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be their their their their their their their their their their their. It. It. It their. It their their their. It their they. It tally. It tally. tally. tally. It tally. they. It they. It they. It they. It they. It the. He had to, and you have to do it in like a very
dramatic way. Yeah, it says it needs to be there because of the trauma. The
trauma gives it power. And you're like, okay. He tells, he's giving her advice, they
go see him in prison and he's giving her advice on what to tell her friend.
Right, she's done the, I got a friend who did a thing.
Asking for a friend.
He says, tell her to kill someone in front of others
and make the biggest mess she can.
And she goes, I can't kill a person!
And he freaks out.
Like, get away from me, you're not going to do this to me again.
And every scene ends with someone hating her to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to the to the to the to the to the to the to to to the to to to the to to to to the to the to to to to told told told, told, told, to to to kill to kill to kill to kill to kill to kill to kill to kill to kill to kill to kill to kill to kill to kill to do this to me again. And every scene ends with someone hating her. It's true.
Yeah.
So, okay, so do you think she's just imagining that guy driving a Dodge Charger though,
the cop? Or do you think that Ding Dong really would drive a Dodge Charger?
Geez, Dodge Charger, man, if I've ever seen one.
Fair enough. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh man, but she doesn't tell the X what happened?
Because she's with him at this rendezvous.
He's like, what happened in there?
And she goes, nothing.
Like, how does she keep getting away with that?
Who knows?
Yeah.
So she's in her house and the therapist shows up.
And then her landline rings and it's the therapist?
It's like movie.
Movie.
One who has a landline.
Well, she's got to have one for that security system.
Oh, yeah, you're right.
Wait, no, that can't be.
I don't know.
Okay.
My parents did. In what year was it? I don't know three years ago. Okay, well I don't know then.
You had a landline three years ago.
I'm the one who's wrong here.
So the therapist, when she, so she picks up the phone,
the landline, it's the therapist, and she turns back
and the therapist in front of her is like doing a really good creepy smile. almost time rose. And I just don't love that.
Again, back to the conjuring. Yeah.
Just, just, you just have to sprinkle this stuff. You don't have to hit me over the head with it. Yeah, I feel like, yeah. This movie wanted to be creepy and innovative, and then it would start to do that,
and then it would kind of ve do that and then it would
kind of veer off into just like mainstream scare. Yeah for sure, and
especially when you're like doing movies that I think are creepy and innovative
are your inspiration like it follows in the ring like for all it follows
faults like I think that movie sustains an atmosphere of just like
other worldly creepiness throughout
the entirety of it.
Right, and always looking over your shoulder, which is a terrible feeling.
And I think the ring, like having seen it at the time that I've seen it is a fucking
masterpiece of like that tension just existing the whole time.
Do you mean Ringo or Naomi Watt's?
I guess we should clarify that before we get phone calls.
The one with less horse trouble.
Ah, ah.
It's almost time, Rose.
Fuck off.
There's a lot of drool coming out of that therapist's mouth too.
She screams in her face and covers her mouth and...
Yeah.
So the next thing we see is her basically killing Carl. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So the next thing we see is her basically killing Carl.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Or as I have, she goes to see the mumbler. The mumbler. Which is what I have Carl's to say.
Which we think is going to pass this along to her boss. I guess.
Yeah. Who seem like an okay guy? So why do this? This is a bad choice. Oh, then he pulls his face off. It doesn't matter. It's a dream, question mark?
Fantasy, question mark.
It's a lot.
Yeah.
So she leaves town.
She goes out to the country.
Before that, we get the revelation that she let her mom die.
Oh, OK. Which is not nearly as impactful as it should be because this whole part of the movie has
been dragging ass.
You're like, what, just get to it.
Just get to it.
Even after the scene of her viciously murdering someone, even though it's a dream sequence
and a person pulling their face off, you're like, get to it.
The face pulling off like had like no weight to it. What's like- Why would he have done that?
I think you're right, like,
you're trying to do this one thing
and do like three other things at the same time
and like had they just focused on this like,
dissent into madness of this character?
I think it'd have been one thing and much more effective. Yeah. Yeah, it seems like someone was just like,
oh, and what if he pulls his face off?
And they were like, yes!
Yeah.
Right.
And at this point, I don't care anymore.
And that's, I mean, that's on me for being impatient.
But also, like, I feel like,
I feel like horror movies are making them longer and longer to seem more important than they are perhaps, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, and th, and tho, and tho, and tho, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and, and thi, and thi, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, th. And, right, th. And, and, th. th. th. th... th. And, and, th.... And, th. And, th. And, and, thi, and, and, thi, and, and, thi, thi, and, and, and, and, and, thi, and, thi, and, and, and, thi. And, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to thi. And, thi. And, th they are, perhaps, and maybe that chafes me a little bit.
And I feel like they also kind of already showed us this,
like you could have inferred from what happened earlier.
I disagree with that because I was surprised
that she let her mother die.
I thought she found her mother's dead body.
Yeah. But also, you know, sometimes I'm always looking at another screen Yeah, but there's also like that the aspect of like when all of these things have happened around her, she's done nothing.
Like she watched that woman kill herself.
She like, she's been like almost a non-actor in so much.
Yeah, she's really an observer, isn't she?
Yeah, and also I think like letting her mom die was like, I'm putting an end to this.
Yeah, I have for herself. Right. And that's why she's th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi th thi thi thi that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that, thathe's thathea, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, th. th. th. th. Yeah, I have for herself. Right. And that's why she feels such guilt about it.
But yes, now she goes out to the country to her mother's house. Right, and she shuts
herself up in there. And wanders around the empty house for what feels like an hour. It's an eternity.
An eternity. Ah, and then we get my least favorite thing in the movie. Because I feel like we've just done this recently. The character that I only refer that th for th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, to to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. the the, the the, the the the the the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thee. thee. the. the. the. to th just done this recently. The character that I only refer to as long mama.
Long mama.
Yeah.
Which is, she has an interaction with like the ghost of her mom and her memories.
Yeah, which is like not the good kind of stressful when she's talking to her mom.
Her dead mom.
And then she leaves a room and something comes out of the room and I was like, oh, it's a barbarian again. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to to thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. She's, th. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. She. the. She. the. th. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. th. to. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. She's. She's. She're doing it again. 20-foot-tall mom. Because it seems like for a second year she's doing the I Don't Believe in you ending. Yeah.
Where all you had to do was face your fears. And she goes, your mind makes it real big
smile. And the funny, goofy face is like it takes away from it and I'm like, so you're just a monster?
And it's shuckling too. It's going, huh, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo,
which isn't like someone, like, if you walk into a room
and there's just someone who's made eye contact with you
and won't stop smiling at you, that's fucking awful.
Laura is so creepy, yes.
But like, this thing, I'm like.
This is scary stories of tell in the dark.
Yeah, exactly, which is a different flavor of horror, which I liked,
but it's doing something different. You can't have it both ways. It's also for 12 year olds.
Right. You make, you make one movie or you make the other. Yeah, you can't make a movie that's
like, here, deal with like 40 years of fucking trauma, you 12 year old. Right. Right. You can't escape your own mind, Rose. Right. I know, that's the fucking theme.
You don't just say it?
Oh, Long Mama.
But she does break Long Mama's arm and then sets her on fire?
And runs outside and the house is burning?
She does like a fire shimmy, but it's CGI, so I'm not even counting it as a fire walk.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then you think, oh, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. the. that's thatthe movie ends. No, it's still not gonna fucking end.
So she runs outside and it turns out she didn't actually burn the house down. Yeah.
That was all in her mind.
I just felt like at this point they'd back themselves into a corner.
Yes.
So then we get the detective X shows up and he's talking to her, then he starts smiling. Well, she does, she like bears her soul about like being afraid of what people might see if they look too close.
Yeah, she's finally opening up to another human being.
Right, and that's why she puts up walls.
Yeah. See, I do the opposite where I'm just like, look at all of this so that like, you know, you know, open it up and flap it around. so everyone, you. to, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi being a rose of just being like I'm not going to tell anybody anything. Yeah. I keep
everything secret and then I exploded. Yeah. So now I'm just like yeah what do you
want to know? What's going on? I take a real laugh at yourself before they can
laugh at you approach to life. Sure. That's why I'm a clan. that's the throwne that's why I that's why I that's why I that's why I that's why I that's why I that's why I that's why I that's why I that's why I that's why I'm thiii. thi. thi. that's why I'm thi. thi's why I'm thi's thi. thi thi thi. thi. that's thi. thi. thi. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. I'm thi, I'm hella depressed and have like really bad anxiety, so know that getting into a relationship with me.
And that's going to come up.
Yeah.
Rose, you could do that.
That might help you in these situations.
You might have learned about it in college.
Medical school.
So he's a smile guy.
So he's a smile guy.
She's back on her mom's land.
He's there. They pull the mom, I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I the mom, I I I the mom, I I I I the mom, I I I the mom. I the mom. I'm the mom. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. th. th. They pull the mom monster back out and I honestly can't believe that I'm looking at it again.
Then mom monster pulls her own face off and she got like 10 mouths inside of her mouth
and I was like, but why? Is it all smiles all the time? I don't get it.
It's literally Eaton Park, the place for smiles. And then... that's a joke, that's a joke. I's a joke. the joke. the joke. the joke. thoom. thoom. thoom. tho. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that's a that's a that's a that's a thathe that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah, or my favorite thing ever was when Kings, the rival family restaurant did the frowny.
Oh, Rip Kings.
I didn't realize Kings had shed this mortal coil.
Yeah, I don't know if there's any left.
Oh, threw open your parking lot the first time I got drunk. Sarah McLaughlin's song playing now.
Will you remember the...
Will you remember Pugh?
No, no, no, uh...
Oh, uh, oh, oh!
So, uh, Long Mama pulls off her own skin, and then it's tore her face right off.
So, uh, Long Mama pulls off her own skin, and then it's right off.
It feels very like that scene in Beetleju's where Juno is like, tore your face is right off. And then tears off all her skins. Yeah, all her skin and
apparently Rose's face too. She opens Rose face up real big and climbs inside of
her. Yeah. As Detective X is trying to break into the house.
It's a very old door. He can bunch the wall. Yes, seriously.
She has poured accelerant all over herself.
She borrowed it from the crow.
Yes.
And she strikes a match while smiling and he gets to watch her burn to death.
And he does nothing to stop her.
Yeah.
And then the credits roll and it plays that lollipop, Lollipop, Lollipop, which fucking pissed me off and I don't know why.
She's like, what are you trying to say to me here?
What is the- No Duop!
Yeah, I love Duop! I do! I just don't understand what the purpose of that song was there.
I don't. But luckily it didn't play for very long because Paramount, Param, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th th th th th that, that, that, that, th that, that, that, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, thi, thi, what thi, what thi, thi, thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, what thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, to thi. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to. Woodwatch again let's go. Yeah really. Katie. It's almost time Katie.
Oh, can it just be time Alan? I don't have two hours to spend on this movie for the
ratings face. Oh brother. What do you what he got for me? This what's favorite kind of sandwich? What's my favorite kind of
sandwich? Oh, hmm. I'm going to go right now, the Spack Pittsburgh's a 10 steak. Okay. Yeah. My
favorite sandwich is salami and provolone on thick cutick-cut Italian bread with brown mustard.
Okay, okay.
This movie to me was that sandwich, but someone had poked their hole through the middle
of it and just held it up to their butt hole and farted right through it, and took something
that was really good and made it bad.
That's what this movie was to me.
And for that, I give it one fart sandwich.
I really liked a lot of this movie.
There were some very scary parts.
I think it maintained the tension well throughout.
I thought her acting was great.
I like the idea, and I wish I had watched it with this in mind
that all of it is only happening from her perspective. And it may not be real reality. No, I'm pitching my horse to that wagon and I'm riding it into the sunset.
But it just went so astray.
A hundred percent agree. Yeah.
I think the stuff that works in this movie works really well.
Yeah. And it's almost the stuff that works really well is the stuff that isn't the stuff that... that. that. that. that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th reality. th reality. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. that's thi. that's that thi. thi. that works in this movie works really well. Yeah.
And it's almost the stuff that works really well is the stuff that isn't the ring and isn't it follows.
Absolutely. Isn't the conjuring.
We've seen all those so many times. Sure. And I'm going to throw a final destination on that pile too because it's like death is coming for you.
Look around. I feel like the stuff that works is almost had like a like a like a Mike Flanagan quality to it
The haunting of Hill House
I'm trying a blight house all that stuff like
um or blind manner
Where it's like it's about that. It's about that like? dealing with loss dealing with death dealing with And like, it's a fine horror trope.
Like, just stick with that one.
Don't give me Peely-Face people.
Right, go deep into this and don't get out.
Yeah.
And that's really hard to watch though.
That's like the hereditary of movies.
It was just so hard to watch. Or Jacob's Ladder could also be thrown in th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, that, that, that, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi, thi. thi, thi, to, to, tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog.rown in this heap of movies. Oh, I love that movie. Yeah. I also just maybe can't stomach a mental health horror right
now. It may have been the worst time to do this. Sure. You know. And because of all the other stuff
that's in there, because of the jump scares, like I get the stuff, like everybody whos about people with mental health issues is dismissive
of them.
Oh, she sounds like a real like nut job.
Yes.
Like all that stuff like that one detective.
And like her, their brother-in-law and sister, they're just very dismissive of it.
They're just very dismissive of like mental health issues.
And I think again, that puts it from like her perspective. that thi, th, th, like, th, like, th, th, like, like, th, like, th, th, th, like, like, th, thi, like, like, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, like, th. And, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like she has such a strong relationship with these things that everyone would seem like they're just dismissive of it. Right, that makes perfect
sense. Putting that other stuff on top of this movie that's essentially about
trauma and dealing with that mental crisis, it takes away from it. It really, it detracts
from it and like... As you're saying this, I wonder if the movie was, if somehow this came up in the production of, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it, it, it, it, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, to-a, to-a, to-a, to-a, to-a, to-s, to-s, thii-a, thi-s, thi-s, thi-a-s, tha'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'era'er's tha'er, tha, tha I wonder if the movie was, if somehow this came up in the production
of it, in the notes somewhere, studio notes that like, you can't have mental illness be the
bad guy?
So they're like, fuck, we got to make a monster.
Maybe.
I don't know.
Anyway.
But to those of us who struggle with mental illness, it is the bad guy in every aspect of our lives. Like, I joke about being like so glad I'm depressed
so that I don't have to ever embarrass myself like Justin Long,
but really it sucks, you know, it's really fucking hard.
Yeah.
Really fucking hard.
Um, so I think it, it loses points definitely for not handling these things of the way it could have. Yeah. Uh, but I'm torn because, like, there's some really good creepy shit in this movie.
Would you say it's your favorite sandwich with a fart in the middle?
The weird thing is my favorite sandwich is a fart sandwich.
I mean, Satan is pretty fucking farty.
Oh, those spack satan hoagies are great, but like do not come near me afterwards. As I like to say, gluten leaves to tootin.
Gluten to to tootin.
I'm gonna give this movie a six.
That's about where I was gonna come down to.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, I think it's worth a watch, but know that you're going into a situation that is probably going to be.
that's going to be pretty upsetting and not for the reasons they wanted it to be. Right, very much so. Yeah. Yeah. Katie. You know what's not upsetting? What?
What? That we have a voicemail? What's it about? It's from a listener that tells us, their name is Anna and they're going to tell us all about goofy and how they fucks. Hey Bear Book Amulance. Um, much of that voice mail. That was was that was that was that was that was th. That was th. That was th. That was th. That was th. That was th. th. th th th th th th th th th th th th th thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii thiii thiiiii thi their their their thii thia thia thia thia thia thia thia thia thiiii th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thi. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. thia. thiiia. thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiia. thiia. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Amulance. Lots of that voicemail.
That was excellent.
My name's Anna, and I had to call you in the middle of listening to this episode to
let you know that none of the Mickey Mouse characters have children with the exception
of Goofy.
So Goofy is the only one that canically has fucks.
The rest of them have not.
The closest is that Donald has nephews, but he is not the father of any of them.
Plus, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse do not live in the same house because of, I guess, purity reasons.
But they live separately. So I hope this helps with that knowledge.
What do you guys think you're, and keep doing what you do.
So here's a question.
Yes.
You know how there's always that thing in Disney of like how goofy is a dog but he drives
a car and has a job?
And Pluto is a dog, but he lives in a doghouse and he eats out of a bowl?
Of course.
Goofy fuck like a person?
Or does he only do a doggy style? I mean he's, you know, he can probably get around, yeah.
You think he does person sex too?
Doggy style is also person sex.
Only if the Steelers game is on, so you can both watch.
If you're both watching the Steelers game.
I'm never going to naturally get that joke in anywhere, am I?
Literally years I've been...
You have shoehorned it into so many situations.
So at the time it actually fits, everyone's going to be like, yes, we know, so you can both watch the Steelers game.
At this point it's just like, kudzu, you have gotten it in there naturally by infesting it in everything.
I like the idea of describing my joke says
invasive. Thank you Anna. And if you'd like to leave us a voicemail our number is
412-4077025. You are correct. That was in the Patreon episode anyway.
Oh Katie. Oh Katie. we going to do next week? Next week is
the second of a rock block of movies that we thought might actually scare us.
I regret picking it now actually. I'm kind of feeling like we might want to take a last minute
swing at changing it. What do you think you want to do it or now? Do you want to do another movie that's definitely about familial trauma? No, I don't. I don't. I'm backburnering that. I'm pulling, I'm calling an audible right now and I'm picking
something else. We were going to do Goodnight Mommy, the German version. I've been wanting to see it for a long time
and really haven't made the thing to keep hammering ourselves
with.
So, we picked a different movie.
We're going to do Deadstream, which is on Shutter.
Yeah, a Shutter original, yes.
I believe so.
Right.
It's about a disgraced internet personality, just like us.
I'm disgraceful.
That's where you're wrong. We're gonna do Deadstream if it's on shutter. It should be fun. People have
said it's pretty enjoyable. I could enjoy a movie. Yeah. I could go for some
enjoyment. I could enjoy some enjoying. Seems silly. Let's do some silly.
Yeah, that'll be good. I feel bad all over. What's that you feel bad all over?
I say I might just be hungry.
This is how I get when I'm hungry.
It's called hangry, Katie.
I'm not angry.
I just feel bad all over.
You've gotten hung dis, uh, being said.
Yeah, I'm hung most, hung most, hung most. It's the hunger hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, hunger, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm th, I'm th, I'm th, I'm th, I'm th, I'm th, I'm th, I'm th, I'm that, I'm that, I'm that, I'm that, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I that, I that, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th. I th. I th. I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. that that that thooo. that that that that that thi. thi. thi, thi, I thi, hung roost. It's the hunger and moroseness.
Gotcha.
No, I don't know why I explain it.
