Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 419- The Dark and The Wicked (2020)

Episode Date: March 6, 2023

In this week's episode, we're discussing the 2020 supernatural horror film "The Dark and the Wicked," aka "An Extremely Allen Movie." Special topics for your consideration include: two very different ...schools of thought when it comes to handling one's emotions, chasing that old scare dragon, the hardness of farm folk (particularly compared to how baby-soft we are), and a delightfully Pittsburgh voicemail.  If you liked this movie, you'll probably love Episode 255- "Lake Mungo." We've also dealt with themes of grief in Episode 11- "The Babadook," Episode 47- "Don't Look Now," Episode 116- "The Descent," Episode 159- "Pet Sematary," Episode 224- "Hereditary," and Episode 270- "Midsommar." Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey Katie. Oh boy, hi Alan. How you doing, bud? Good, you're okay? You've been, uh, you've been watching a movie again? Yeah, I'm doing okay. You've watching a movie again, Alan? What movie did you watch Alan?
Starting point is 00:00:22 I watch the Dark and the Wicked. Again, Alan! It's a good movie. It's a good movie. It's a good movie. Why don't you sit down? Oh, all right. This is such an Allen movie. Holy fuck.
Starting point is 00:00:36 I, in watching this movie, I was like, there are two kinds of Allen movies. Yeah. There is a weepy, melodramatic family trauma. Horror. Horror. Yeah. And there is Italian cemetery full of worms. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And those are the two Allen. It's your Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. But this isn't Alan. Dr. Fulci and Mr. Sad. Yes. One hondo. Oh boy. Oh boy.
Starting point is 00:01:08 Oh boy. Want to watch Lake Mungo again? No. I will never watch Lake Mungo again. Great movie. No. This does have the Mungo effect, though. This is extremely Mungo.
Starting point is 00:01:21 This is high up on the Mungo scale. I'll tell you what, I do love goats. Sure. Love a goat. Yeah, yeah. You know what I like about goats? They got a real fuck you attitude. Yeah, I think of those weird ass eyes. Yeah, they're pupils. Yeah, they're pupils or a rectangle.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Yeah. I just like that a goat. Probably gonna bite you on the dick after this is done too. Yeah, and you're gonna like it You weirdo. Yeah First note hour and 35 nice. Yep It's been a week of short films for us, which I'm really enjoying. Yeah. So this is a movie. Uh-huh. It starts off on a farm with some goats. It's entirely on a farm. And some farm equipment. I like that it opens with no score but just farm sounds. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Yeah, yeah. And it's got that like, there's a beautiful like, just those wide shots of everything. Like including mom cutting fabric to make what the dresses or whatever that she's doing. Yeah. A woman cutting fabric in a room full of dress forms. Now that woman is bothering goats. No, that woman is bothering goats.
Starting point is 00:02:33 No, no, noots that I have. There's these like what I thought were like redneck wind chimes, but I suppose there's something else. It's an alarm system. Yeah. So that if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if if that if that if that if that if that if that if that if that if th th that if th th th th th they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. th. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the thoooooooooooooomoome. th. else. It's like an alarm system. It's an alarm system. Yeah. So that if anyone sneaks up, they're going to make the metal and bottles clank together. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:51 And you're like, oh, what is this? It's so, the, the, uh, this movie does like, you know how I complain about the James Wan slow pan across everything? I feel like this movie does it but to effect? Well, I think it's more because it's panning across like landscapes and building an atmosphere rather than just like turning around a living room. Sure. Or maybe that's paranormal activity, which I now realize is not James Wan, but... No. No.
Starting point is 00:03:25 And as far superior to the Wanniverse. Paranormal activity? Yeah, I agree. Yeah, I agree. I know you too. Mom, remember the one where the entire contents of the kitchen fell from the ceiling and that was pretty good? That was good.
Starting point is 00:03:35 It's good spooky. The goats are kind of frantic, which I think goats are often. Yeah. And that the wind is blowing real good. I see that her husband is bedridden. Mm-hmm. And seemingly unconscious. Seemingly unconscious. With the entire movie. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And she's writing something while the wind howls and the wolves how. It's very melodramatic.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Very melodramatic. Yeah. And then something rattles the like alarm that's set up and it drives the goats into a little bit of a frenzy and they're running around. Right. We don't see anything. We don't even really see the things moving very much, not enough to make the sound anyway. Exactly. But she's in the kitchen cutting veggies. This lady loves to cut veggies. She does. And for cutting veggies, not a fan. And we hear a chair slide behind her. Yes, it moves, and then it creaks like someone sat down in it. Yes, and then she turns around and stares at the chair, cut to the word Monday being on the
Starting point is 00:04:52 screen. That opening is like, okay. Yeah. All right, movie. You set me up, something's going to happen. It's very atmospheric. So we see Louise arrive at the farmhouse and she's talking to her mother who says you don't need to be
Starting point is 00:05:11 here. You know your brother got here a few hours ago but I told you both not to come. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Full context. I watched this movie around the time of my mom died. Yeah. And like strain relationship with my parents and this movie around the time of my mom died. Yeah. And like, strain relationship with my parents. And this movie is all about strain relationships and loss. And it was just like, oh, I know why this hit me so fucking hard. Yeah, my dude. Yeah, my dude. So yeah, she tells them that she didn't want them to come or told them not to come. She's so mad at them. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the th. Yeah. Yeah. the th. th. th. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, to thi. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, thells them that she didn't want them to come or told them not to come. She's so mad at them.
Starting point is 00:05:45 So Louis drives out and sees her brother and Charlie who's like the farmhand changing a tire. Charlie's character is inexplicable to me. I don't understand why what happens to Charlie happens to try. Every movie needs a Sam Elliot on the set. For sure. For sure. But Sam Elliot, he is not. No, he is not. But he's a Sam Elliot type. He is. He's of a breed. Yeah. So then we get an uncomfortable dinner scene. Yeah. Love this. I'm having so much fun. When mom's despondent or when she starts crying? Both. How can I pick just one?
Starting point is 00:06:26 But there's this really great, like, this movie has a lot of great set-ups, like when Charlie and Louise are outside, and she's like, sorry, I never called your kids on their birthdays. Oh, to Michael, you mean, yeah. And he's like, yeah, what are you going to do? Yeah. So it's just like, oh, I've accepted that I'm not that I'm not that I'm not that I'm not that I'm not that I'm not that I'm not that I'm not that I'm not that I'm not that I'm not that I'm not close that I'm not close that I'm not close that I'm not close that I'm not close that I'm not close that I'm not close that I'm not that I'm not So it's just like, oh, I've accepted that I'm not close to anyone in my family. Yes, very much so. You know, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Because he says, one's the last time you talked to them, and she's like, they called for my birthday, so may, I guess. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And like farm people are a hard people. Sure, you gotta be.
Starting point is 00:07:07 It's a hard fucking life. Yeah. The whole thing is very dark, quiet, and resentful. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There's a point where Louise is walking around at night and the front door is open. And when she walks over to it, in like the silhouetted in a bedroom or a room off this room, is a figure and it's not subtle at all. I like that a lot. And it's like a large man. It's a large man and there's no sting on it. There's nothing. It pans right across it. You see it clearly. Right. But they don't like, weao, which I thought was tasteful. And then when she walks back past that same doorway,
Starting point is 00:07:56 her mother is standing there. Right. And you're like, what? What? That's what I was like, what? So she says, the mom says to the kids, you all should go. It's not what you think. What does that mean? I don't know. Maybe be more specific. Or less. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Yeah. So then we get the scene where they're both asleep, and mom is cutting veggies again. This bitch loves slicing veggies. She loves, and, oh man, I can't remember the person's name who is at the watch-along and is a fear and a finger-trauma fear, that's right. But if you've got finger-trauma fear, skip like 15 seconds ahead. Oh, my God, I've never seen anything like this before. So mom is cutting a carrot and like the music starts getting more and more tense, and she's chopping faster and chopping faster.
Starting point is 00:08:55 And I'm doing it, I'm showing Katie what happened. And she chops her fingers. She really slices those fingies up. Oh my golly, gee. I was sure this was a dream she was having. Yeah. It's not. Yeah. She does this. It's very fucking gross. It's a very effective. Yes. Fuck. It's narly. Fuck. And you see them coming off and look. It's like,. It's very effective. But fuck. It's gnarly. Fuck.
Starting point is 00:09:27 And you see them coming off in little cubes. Yeah. It's so... The special effects are so well done. Yeah. Yeah, ruin those carrots. You can't eat them now. No, I mean.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Unless you're into fingies. I mean... You eat meat? Come on. I gotta throw them out. I gotta throw everything else. Unless you're into finge's. I mean, you eat meat? I love a chicken fingie, yeah. But I call it a chicken tendie. I call it a chicken tendie, too. Get them veggie chicken tendies? No, I ain't a real whatever it is that you people think we say.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Tuesday is the next card. Oh my God. And we wake to Michael running around outside yelling for his mom. Yeah. And Louise running outside in just a shirt and her underwear. Yeah. And they find mom in the barn and have to cut her down. Oh, mom went and hanged herself.
Starting point is 00:10:24 And it's just like, that's not a thing a kid should ever have have to have to have to have to have to have their to do their their their their their their their their th.. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. their th. thi. their, thi. their. their. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, their, their. Oh, their. Oh, their. Oh, their. Oh, their. Oh, their. Oh, their. Oh, their. Oh, their. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh, thi. Oh, thi. Oh, thi. Oh, thi. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, the the the the their. Oh. Oh. down. Oh, mom went and hanged herself. And it's just like, that's not a thing a kid should ever have to do. Cutting their mother down? Yeah. And it's also, it's not evident how she got up there. Because in order to get her down, Louise has to find something to climb up to cut her down. So that's when we realized that there was a two foot by by by by by by by by by by by foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot foot the the that had melted. Yeah, exactly. I would that was the punchline of this whole movie. I would like that a lot. It was a riddle, did you get it?
Starting point is 00:10:52 Did you not notice the puddle of water underneath her? Louise is smoking inside now and ashing into her coffee cup, which I liked. Yeah. And so we, we meet the nurse who is there taking care of Dad during the day. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th, I. th, I, I, I, I th, I th, I th, I. Yeah. And so we meet the nurse who is there taking care of dad during the day. Yeah. I definitely thought she was a bad guy. Sure, she's got that vibe. She was too, too pure. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:16 This is Wednesday now. OK. So we see Charlie feeding the goats. They're hanging out in dad's room when the nurse shows up and they she the nurse tells them that mama was saying weird things. That's right talking to someone that wasn't your daddy. Yeah, what what? What? Why don't you say excuse me ma'am? What are you talking about? Do I also need to be nursing you now? Also like would you not bring that up as soon as the children arrived three days ago? She didn't want to say anything. Why did she not want to say anything? Yeah she didn't want to say anything. If you think that this the mother might be
Starting point is 00:11:51 suffering from dementia you might want to bring it up to the adult children who were very weird. Very weird. And like as if like oh man this movie the thi. thi Like, as if like, oh man, this movie doesn't feel heartbreaking enough, why don't you show me a dress form of a wedding dress with Louise pinned to it? Why would she leave her name pinned to it in the first place? How many wedding dresses was she making that day? Yeah. Oh, and Louise wants to talk about who mom was talking to? And Michael's just like, I don't give a shit who anybody was talking to.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Michael is a strange character. He's alternately like full of rage and just totally passive. Sure. Yeah. Which makes sense, like, I get it. I kind of lost, like, fucks you up. Yeah. I think the acting is phenomenal. I agree.
Starting point is 00:12:44 And they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they're not they're not they're not they're not they're not they're not they're not they're not they're not they're not they're not their the acting is phenomenal. I agree. And they're not people I know at all. Do you know any of those actors? I feel like I've seen Louise in something else, but yeah, no. The guy plays Father Thorne, I have seen in other things. Yeah. But we'll get to him. Louise goes to shower. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:59 And then she opens the shower curtain and her dad is standing there and he pees himself. . And she opens the shower curtain and her dad is standing there and he pees himself? Yeah. And then he shakes his head like a nine-inch nails video out of her? Ah, man, starting to lose me moving. You know, I don't like it. Yeah, but he ain't got no eyes. Right. You got white spaces where eyes should be.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Yeah. And when she turns around again, he's not there. No, and she cries for Michael. Yeah, and he's like, yeah, death still in bed. You're a dummy. Yeah I found mom's diary. You want to read it? Want to read our mom's diary? Which says things like, I know he's there in the darkness. Help me, help me, help me, please. He's killing David. He can't breathe anymore. Devil, devil wants David's soul. You're like what? What Thursday? I like the I like the the title cards for the days of the week that just got like they give this sort of momentum to what is otherwise a very atmospheric slow movie. Yeah, I think you're right about that. Yeah. Yeah, does keep it moving along. And so Michael's finally like, how do mom get up there? Right. Yeah. Yeah. So they go to see. Oh, there's more scary entries in the diary that they read, like, that sound so many mouths.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Yes, that sound so many mouths. That's awesome. That is very good. Great spookery. Yeah. Yeah. They go to see mom's body and identify it, I guess, at the morgue. They're given a pocketful of crosses from Sunday school. Yeah, they rally around the family. Every single time I either hear that song or pick up a seashell. I think so lovingly of you, believing that it was a pocket full of seashells. You're just hanging out with your family having a good day, rallying around them. You rally around your family, you go to the beach. I think a pocket full of shells. I want to remember this day so we'll'm going to look at these seashells.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Yeah, this is a great day with my family. So sweet. Anyway, this is a pocket full cross. It's way less sweet. Yeah, but they're crosses in the guy, the corner or a morgue attendant or whatever is like, oh, those are like the crosses they give out at Sunday school to little kids, maybe your mom collects them. Yeah, you know, they were like she doesn't. She does not do that. She does not. But that does beg the question how did she get them? Oh we find out how she gets them later. I don't think what I found out. Father Thorn was giving them to her. But he never met her. Didn't he? Not the the the Well, then where did the crosses come from?
Starting point is 00:15:46 The devil! Was he just conjuring crosses and moving them out? Okay, well, I don't know. Don't think about it too hard. We're doing a lot of religious stuff lately. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Yeah. I've got to stop doing that. We're taking care of dad, we're back at the house, and dad starts choking. What happens with dad is he's choking? A spider crawls out of his mouth. Oh, that's why I wrote a bug just came out of his mouth. Yeah. Oh, God. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:15 And she's like freaking out and trying to find the spider. And Michael comes in and is like, what are you doing? She's like, there's a spider? th and the spider, the spider, the spider, the spider, the spider, the spider, the spider, the spider, th and th and thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. A, th. A, th. A, th. A, th. A, th. A, th. A, th. A, th. A, th. A, th. A, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. A spider, thi. A spider, thi. A. A spider, is like, is like, thi. A. A. A. S. A. S. S. S. S. S. S. Sight, thi. A. S spider, thi. A. A. S. S. He does not come look for the spider. No. Then that night he's sleeping, yeah, while the overhead light turns on. Holy shitballs. That scare you a lot. This is the part of the movie that I turned off and was like, hey, I'm going to come back to you later movie.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Really? Got me? Good. Chasing that dragon. Do you catch the dragon? I think so, yeah, yeah. Yeah. That's wonderful. Because, well, also Louise has found her mother's blood under the sink stopper on the sink. And I was like, oh, that's just fucking heartbreaking. It is fucking heartbreaking. But yeah. So he's in his bed and he's sleeping and the light switch and the light switch on. Yeah. And he gets up and he turns the light switch off. Gets back in bed. And the light switch comes back on. Doing it twice.
Starting point is 00:17:09 That's dick. You're just being a dick now. He opens the door and there's nobody out there. So he shuts the light off and he looks out the window. Yeah. There's nothing out the next window and his mom is floating outside the window. Just floating on the lawn. Waving to him. Out there on the lawn. Yeah, grinning away doing that sort of like smile thing. Yeah. And then she's in the house. Yes. Yeah she is. Just standing next to him. Yeah. And then the end. Yeah, so then it's the next day. And Louise
Starting point is 00:17:44 wakes up with shit all over her face. I thought they were scratches but it's makeup. Yeah, it's her lipstick that's in bed with dad. Why's dad got a lipstick? Instead he'd do it? I don't know. You know the devil's scamp. Loveable scamp. I did like what happens next, which is that the landline rings? And when Louise picks it up it says that it like, boo, the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tho, tho, tho, tho, thi. thi. thoom, thoom, thoom, th. th. thoom, th. thi, thi, th. th. their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. I I I I's, th. I's, their, thi. L. L. L. L. L. L. L. L. L. L. L. the the thi. L. thi. L. thi. L. the. L. L. We's, the. L. Wea. L. Yeah, th. L. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, the they. Yeah, they. Yeah, they. Yeah, that the landline rings. And when Louise picks it up it says that it does it like boo-doo the number has been disconnected and it's like you didn't call anybody. I know. I know. And then she hangs up and it immediately rings again. Yeah. And it's her mom saying I told you not to come here. I am going to absolutely be a mother who says I told you so from beyond the grave. I'm so psyched. I to to told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told you. I told told told told told told you. I told told told told to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to the to to to to to to to to the to the the the the to, I told you so from beyond the grave. I'm so psyched. I fucking told you. So Michael's coming home and there's a man, a priest, waiting at the gate. Right. And he
Starting point is 00:18:35 tells him, he gives him a little cross like the one that was in mom's pocket. Right. And says, uh, uh, you look like your mother. Yeah. And so they bring him inside the house and talk to him, and he reads the diary. And they're very clear that she did not believe in God. Right, right. We're atheists. We've always been atheists. My mother didn't believe in God.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Yeah. So the priest stands up, says some like cryptic priest words about a wolf, and he's, you know, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, and he's, and he's, and the, and the the the the the the the the the the th and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and says, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and th and th and th and th and th. And, and th. And, and th. And, and th. And, and thi, and thi, and thi, and says, and says, and says, and says, and says, and thi, and says, and says, thi, thi, thi, thi. And thi. And, they's thi. they's thi. they're thi. thi. they're thi. they're they're thi out there he's already here and he's out of there. Yeah. What? Also I swear that the brother looks like a different person in every shot. Sure. He is very changeable. He's I think he's got that problem where you can't tell white guys apart like he just keeps shifting into different white guys. That could well be. Yeah. Sorry. He's a lot of different white guys. There are many different white guys who all look like that white guy. But they're very standoffish with them and they're like we think you like we're fucking with our mother. Right, that they, the fact that she believed that there was some sort of like evil presence in the house had to have been planted by someone who believed in religion and it's this priest has been visiting her. Because the cross. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This priest. This priest. Yeah. This priest. This priest. Yeah. This priest. This priest. Yeah. This priest. This priest. This priest. Yeah. This priest. This priest. This is the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest is the priest is the priest is the priest is. the priest is. the priest. the priest. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest. the priest is the priest is the priest is the priest is the priest is the priest is the priest is the priest. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. her because the crosses in her pocket. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They need to just move that down into a hospice, get the fuck out.
Starting point is 00:19:49 They're trying to. I don't think that they can do this. I don't think that you can be forced to stay in a house with a dying relative. Yeah, I wouldn't think, or at least not be like, okay, well, we're going to bring hospice to the house. Yeah, you, I just... There will be somebody at the house with you 24's at. I don't think doctors get to be like, nah, we can't take him and I guess you can't leave. So, see on Tuesday, I guess. I guess, fuck yourself. Yes, shove it up your ass.
Starting point is 00:20:18 What I'm saying. I mean, I don't know, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, know, go fuck yourselves. Go and just fuck yourself so hard. So Louise goes out to the barn and she's reading the diary in the barn. And like one of the bottles explodes. And then there's a shadow moving on the wall behind her. Good spookery. Yeah. Unfortunately, it does not walk into a mirror and then go, blah.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Oh, you James Wanians. I didn't, people fucking hate that movie, the nun. There's so many people on her discords were like, a piece of shit, that fucking movie. Ficious. I was like, oh weird. I feel like we usually come down harder on one than other people too. Yeah, yeah, I mean, I just feel like it's a copy of a copy of a copy. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:21:09 The further you get from the original, it's just going to get worse. For sure. So, uh, now we cut to you. Michael gets awakened by a noise. And he comes out into the living room and Louise is already staring at the front door. Right. Because something's scratching at it. Ugh. What's out there, Alan? The priest is outside. Telling them, come outside. And he's got his head down so his face is in darkness and he's just going, come outside. So fucking weird. Come outside. Yeah. And I hate it. Yeah. They shine a flashlight on his, on the old man, and his eyes are white. And he says, do you want some rope? Ruud? Ruud! It's only been a couple of days. Too soon for that kind of joke. He didn't strike me as much of a joker anyway. Telling the devil, scamp. So fucking rude though. So the phone rings and he disappears.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Man people got to get rid of landlines. They're always harbingers. This movie is a strong argument for getting rid of a landline. Fucking ditch it. You don't need it. Oh. Fuck your bundle. Or just do like, we still have a landline, but the phone has been unplugged for like two years. You can't let people contact you on a landline. It's always something bad. So then we get this weird scene of Charlie in his trailer. It seems like he lives on like a, yeah. Like on the property in a trailer. So yeah, he seems like he lives on like a, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Like on the property in the trailer. And he is trying to call the house. Right. But they've unplugged the, Louise is unplugged the phone. Correct. And so then Louise is standing there cutting herself in a negligee in his trailer. I don't know why, she says says you did this to me. Right. Which doesn't make any sense because earlier in the movie we saw her
Starting point is 00:23:10 trying to talk to her brother about something was upsetting her and he kind of brush her off and then she's just like ran and hugged Charlie and he seemed like a nice sort of like surrogate dad kind of thing. So a little, I guess I think that this movie is all th like like like like th like that th like that that th like th like that th th th th th th th th th th th th thus thus thus thus thus thus thus thus thus thus thus thi thi thi this this this the the their this movie this this this their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. toe. toe. toe. their their their their their the I think that this movie is all about like loss and feelings of inadequacy. Mm-hmm. Right. So I think Charlie feels like he hasn't done enough to help, and that he's let Louise down who he obviously has a lot of affection for, um, in that like surrogate dad sort of way. So I think this is the demon showing up or whatever it is, grief or whatever the force is at this. Yeah. And he shoots
Starting point is 00:23:55 himself in the fucking head. He's quick to that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he jumps right on. I feel like there are more things he could have, I feel like there were steps he could have taken prior to that, but okay. Like maybe just sit down with Louise and chat with her. Yeah. Yeah. And then in the next scene we get Louise saying that Charlie hasn't answered his phone in two days and I'm like, why don't you go check on him? Why wouldn't you go check on him? I'm treating him like a surrogate. I'm treating him like like like like like like like like a like a like a like a like like a surrogate like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like a surrogate like like like like like like like a surrogate like a surrogate like a surrogate like a surrogate like a surrogate like a surrogate like a surrogate like a surrogate him like a surrogate him like a surrogate him like a surrogate him like a surrogate him like a sur. I'm like a like a sur. I'm like a like a like a sur. I'm like a like a like a sur. I'm like a sur. I'm like a like a sur. I'm like a sur. I'm like a sur. I'm like a surrogate him like a sur. I'm like a sur. I'm like a sur. I'm like a sur. I'm like a sur. I'm like a sur. I'm like a sur. I'm like a surrog. I'm like a surrog. I'm like a surrogate. I'm like a surrogate. I'm like a surrogate. I'm like a surrogate. I'm like a surrogate. I'm like a surrogate. I'm like a surrogate. I'm like a surrogate. I'm like a surto him. Just ignore him for a little while. Unbelievable. He's a treasure, leave him alone. Anyway, she tries to call the number that Father Thorne has left for her.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Yeah. And I think a very creepy understated line is when he says, you called my hotel room. Yeah. It's like, you can't just call a hotel room. Right. And she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she's, and she's, and she's, and she's, right, right. And she's like, you know my mother? And he's like, I've never been to Texas. No, I'm in Chicago.
Starting point is 00:24:50 Yeah. And he's like, who told you to call? Louise was my daughter who killed herself's name. What does that have to do with anything? I think it's just adding, like, I think it's supposed to be like, oh, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm, I'm, I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th..... th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thin, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. thi. to. th. to. to. to. to. to.'s like supposed to be like, oh, not only am I the devil fucking with y'all, I'm also fucking with this guy over here now. Oh, jeez. I got a lot of plans, a lot of irons in the fire. You think the devil...
Starting point is 00:25:12 Or whatever this is, yeah. Or whatever this is. Yeah, the bad thing is, the evil is to make this woman who has the same name as as, as to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the the thi, the the thi, thi, the the the thi, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi.oooooooooooooooooooooooan, thia. thia. thia. thia. thia. thia. I thi. I thi. has the same name as his dead daughter call him? Yeah. I think so. That's so petty! The devil is petty as hell! That's true. I do appreciate a good petty, a good petty revenge. Come on, the devil's not going to take an opportunity to fuck with a priest, or preacher, whatever this guy is. Sure. But I like that, like, they're just like adding layers to this thing of like, who, who?. Who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, like, like, who, who, like, who, who, who, like, who, like, like, who, like, like, like, like, like, th, thi, like, like, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, that's so that's so that's so, that's so, that's so that's so that's so that's so that's so that's so, that's so, that's so, that's so, that's so, that, th. That's so, th. That's th. That's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that's like, like, like, like, like, like, that's so, like, like, that's so, that's so, that's so, that's so, that's so, that's so, that's so, But I like that like, they're just like adding layers to this thing of like, who, why, okay, whatever that thing was that you saw last night or yesterday gave you the phone number for this real dude who he was pretending to be. Also, who is father Thorne? Yes. His name is father Thorne. Who had a daughter named Louise who killed herself? Yeah, I think it is it is weird. This is a real, real weird thing to have happen.
Starting point is 00:26:06 It is a, it is a very weird thing to have happen. Yeah. Not as weird as the doctor in the next scene. I guess I'm just, this part is such a dumb. I guess I'm just, this part is such a dumb, that dumb. Sure. Have a snowstorm and that no one can get there and you can't get out or something. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:29 I guess that's the end of the shining, but. You know, have you can't just have the doctor come in and be like, theyme, you know what I mean. You thin'd make it to the highway, doesn't seem like a, like... Then he's, then that's how he goes. You know what I mean? He would have loved to go. He would have loved to have gone out on the way to the highway. He took it every day. Let's, let's test that theory, dog.
Starting point is 00:26:54 It's just this idea that like he's so close to death death. What? What? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And the nurse is just, she's too heartfelt for my tastes. I mean I don't know if you know any nurses in real life, but they are not that, they are not like this. No, they have been beaten down by having all the expertise of doctors and getting paid, you know, yeah. Yeah, and actually being kind to human beings, unlike those doctors. What?
Starting point is 00:27:29 What? Anyway, rip the goats. I love the scene of the, like, three-legged goat, the like, three-legged goat where they put the, the prosthetic on it, so it looked like it had a bloody stump. Yeah. I was like, oh, man, that goat with three legs got an active job out of it. This is my big break. But I just love like the shot of it just kind of like wandering up and it's like seems a little disoriented. It did a great job. Probably because it was like why do I have this fucking thing stuck to my leg? Am I covered in Cairo syrup in red dye? So hungry. The goats are all dead. Yeah, they've all been slaughtered. Yeah, we see Michael break that one's neck.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Yeah. Good God. Sometimes you got her, right? I mean, sure, but not. That's, I farm people or hard people. Yeah. I'll tell you what, I'm a city person. Weak as shit. There's just like this this this this, this, this, this, this, this, this sort this sort, this sort, this sort, this sort, this sort, this sort, this sort as shit. There's just like this sort of like
Starting point is 00:28:25 Matt painting shot of all these like slaughtered goats in this field. Brutal. And then they burn all of them. Yeah, it's a huge fire and they're throwing the bodies onto it. Yeah. And one of them says to the other, I think it was Michael says to Louise, told us not to come. Yeah, thanks, they. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. to thi. thi. thi. th. to they. they. to to to they. they. they. their, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, Michael, to to to to to to to to they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. th. th. they. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. th. th. the. th. th. the. th. th. th. the. th. th. the. the. they. th. they. thanks Michael. Yeah, I know. Yeah, dude. So Luis goes back to the house and Michael's gonna deal with the remaining goats. She's like, I'm coming with you and he's like, no, we're definitely splitting up. We're gonna make this harder for the DM. Right. Because he has seen a pregnant goat and he just, I guess assumes it's happening that night. Yeah, lucky it is.there's a little baby goats.
Starting point is 00:29:05 Fucking baby goats. Love a baby animal, though. And while he's dealing with this, the alarm thing gets tripped. Yes. And he hears his mother singing. Right. Singing a religious song, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Which she had been singing when she was thinnec. Right. She breaks right through that chain of the redneck wind chimes. I loved that. Yeah. I thought she was just going to like be incorporeal and move through it. No. But like snapping it? Very cool. Nice touch. And then when she's gone, it's still broken. Right. She was solid and strong enough. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. the the th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. yay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She pins him to the wall with fear is a note that I have. With fear. And then there's a jump scare that made me jump. Yeah, me too. On the discord, some people were complaining that like, the jump scares are like kind of corny in this. Yeah, I think there's, I think it's a mix of, I think jump scares are sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort is that's are kind kind kind is that's are kind kind that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's they got me. Yeah I think there's I think it's a mix of I think jump scares are sort of necessarily a bit corny sure
Starting point is 00:30:09 ways but I this got me her behind him like I jumped yeah I legit jumped yeah I might as well and you think for a moment that he has cut his own neck yes but he has not. No he has not. And then she's gone, right? Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. And then there's a, the door opens to where our Louise and dad are sleeping on the bed.
Starting point is 00:30:33 Yeah. And a creepy hand shadow is coming in the room. And she is whimpering. Because something climbs on the bed and she doesn't want to look to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to see to to to to to to to to to the to to to the to the the toe thii. the the the the thiough. that. that's that's that's that's thi. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thioliolioliole thioloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom. that that the th want to look to see what it is. Yuck. I hate it. I hate it. It's growling next to her. And then when she opens her eyes, Dad's gone.
Starting point is 00:30:54 Oh, is he gone? Where is he, Alan? Well, he's having a bit of a Lido Ritchie moment. He is dancing on the ceiling, but not in the way mom did, as you would put it. I'm a bad man. No, we're all bad men. Deep down. He's up on the ceiling, like reaching for her.
Starting point is 00:31:14 Yeah. And then she wakes up. Yes, and he has scratches on his neck. Yes. Yeah. That's gross. But luckily it's Sunday now. And there's a child at the door. Hey, and she looks real timid. She does. Why is Louise so insistent about her coming inside?
Starting point is 00:31:32 Because like everyone that comes inside, I mean, doesn't she acknowledge that something weird is happening there? Why is she making this child come in? Well, she's, uh, Charlie's granddaughter. Yeah, I know. There to tell tell tell tell tell tell tell tell tel tell th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thel the it the the the thi thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thiiia. thia. thia. th she's got to go deal with her dad real quick so she wants the girl to come inside. Oh God. What happens to the girl, Alan? Well, um, uh, we thought you should know that Charlie died. And then when the girl comes inside she says, do you smell him? I bet you do. I smell him too. He's rotting. He's close now. He's rotting. That's gross. Are she talking about her death? Yes, I think he's close to death, right? Yeah, and he's rotting. They sort of fucking taken him! The doctor should have taken him! Oh my God, I can't take it!
Starting point is 00:32:26 She calls Michael and he doesn't answer. He's MIA. The nurse is praying over the dad now with a devotion candle and you're like, you must be a bad guy because of religion? I'm not sure. I was certain she was behind it. It turns out that he's driven all night. Yeah. Michael has and he's going home. To his wife and two daughters. Yeah. He tells Louise that and he's like I can't do
Starting point is 00:32:52 it anymore. He just straight up leaves are there. Yeah. Yeah. And so the nurse is like, hey, I'm happy that you're not alone, Louise. I'm glad that I'm here with you. The nurse also has offered to put in for an overnight nurse as well so Louise could leave. That guilt is strong. I don't I I am a very guilty person and I think I'd be like no I must leave. So I feel like you're not that guilty when you're atheist or raised atheists these children. I don't know. I am fucking guilt ridden. Yeah, fair enough.
Starting point is 00:33:30 Yeah. Especially around family shit. Yeah. Yeah. Well, Ty was trained. If only you were better, then you wouldn't feel so guilty, right? If you just wouldn't keep fucking up, then. Well, Dad? I'm today. Alan.
Starting point is 00:33:47 So the nurse starts crying with knitting needles in her hands. Oh, and what will happen with these? I was like, well, she's got to poke her eyes out immediately. There's also like a CGI spider running around on her face. I do not get the point of the spider. Well, there, I think it's in mom's diary. She talks about her tears falling like spiders from her eyes. So then when this nurse is crying, spiders are running through her tears and I was like, oh, okay, there's a little thing coming here. Okay. Okay. So she stems herself in the neck. Through her cheek first. It goes through her cheek. Yes, yes, yes. Yes. Yes. the th. And the th. And the th. And the tie. And tie. And tie. tie. tie. tie. tie. tie. tie. tie. tie. She tie. She tie tie te te te te te tie te te te te te te te te te te te te te te tie tie tie tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers tiers te. Starting point is 00:34:26 It goes through her cheek. Yes, yes, yes, yes. And then into her tum-tum. Yeah. And then bonks Louise's head a couple times. Oh, you know, I didn't mean that about you being... I know. Okay, I know. Okay, it was just a joke.
Starting point is 00:34:43 tooze the th none. I know you don't think I'm a failure. Okay, sorry. So she knocks Louise's ass out and is dragging her around the house. After putting the knitting needles into her eyes. And then she's seemingly able to see fine after doing that. She's just blinking and crying blood. She's fine. And then we see Michael get home. Yeah. To find both of his daughters have been killed by his wife. I don't need to see dead the the the the the the to the to the to to the to the to the to the to the to the to to the the the the to the the the the the the theys lease thease thease thease thease thease thease thease thease thease to to toease toease toease toease toease toease toease toease toease toease toease to to thease thease thease thease thease thease. thease. thease. thease. to thease. to to to to to to to thease. the. to the. the. the. the. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thean. theating. thean. thean. thean. thean. thean. to find both of his daughters have been killed by his wife? I don't need to see this. I don't need to see dead little girls at a table. And then her wife has slit her own throat and is laying on the floor bleeding out or bled out.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Yeah, good, great, wonderful. So then he's like, well, I don't want to do this anymore, so I'm just gonna fucking Romeo to this Juliet right here and he's th, th, I'm just th, I'm just th, I'm just th, I'm just th, I'm just th, I'm just th, I'm just th, I'm just th, I'm just th, I'm just th, I'm just th, thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and th, and th, and th, and th, th, th, th, th, and th, th, th, and th, thi, thi, and thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi thi to this Juliet right here and take myself out. Yeah, he cuts his own throat. And then he looks at the table, there's nobody there. There's nobody there. And then Becky and the girls come in from shopping. Wee! Poor Becky! Poor Becky.
Starting point is 00:35:34 Oh God, it's so brutal. Oh, yeah. Yeah, so they get to find Dad laying on the floor having slid his own throat. Yep. Yay. I feel great. Louise wakes up to the phone ringing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:56 And she leaves the house because Michael is outside yelling for her. Definitely not Michael. And then... Dad dies. I wrote Dad's dead, I think. Oh, no, no, not yet. Oh no. no. thi. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And you hear mom singing. Yeah. And then? It eats her? Dad attacks Louise in the end of the movie. Yeah. The end. Katie. Katie. You, uh, you want to, uh, uh, let's. Oh, uh, uh, you. Yeah. No. I just don't, I don't want to see it again. Are you giving it a no? I'm giving it.
Starting point is 00:36:49 I mean, I don't... It's a meditation on grief. It's a meditation on grief. A thing that I like to say all of the time. And it's very true in this. It's such an Allen movie. It's so fucking bleak. It even looks bleak, like the farmland looks bleak.
Starting point is 00:37:12 Oh yeah, everything everyone's wearing looks bleak. And it's just so depressing. Dude, farm country in Texas is bleak AF, as the kids like to say. Is they still saying that? Yeah, yeah. Oh great, I'm gong. Um, I really don't know what to give it. It's a great movie that I never wish to look at again. Okay. Yeah. Fuck it. I don't have to rate it. It's my show. Two to one. Yeah. Think about it. This is hard for me to say. Yeah. This movie's a fucking 10. Wow!
Starting point is 00:37:49 Like, there's faults with it for sure. Sure. But it's, for me, it was so effective. And I really liked it, like, re-watching this and then seeing the discourse that was happening on our discord. Discourced on discord. Because it reminded me that, like, we gave a lot of the shit to shit to shit th of the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the. the. This, the, thi, thi, the. This, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. This, th. This, th. This, th. This, th. This, th. This, th. This, th. This, th. This, th. It's, thean, thin, thin, theanan, theananan, theanananan, theanan, theanananananananananan, thea, thea discord, discourse on discord, because it reminded me that like, we gave a lot of shit to Skinne-Rink, and a lot of people love that movie,
Starting point is 00:38:11 and I love the subjectivity of art. Like how things can hit you differently, and I think seeing this around the time that my mom passed made it hit so fucking hard for me. For sure. And I love art for that. I love film for that. I love music for that. Right. It's hitting where you hitting you where you are. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Totally. I also think that for you and me this is the difference of you taking some sort of pleasure and feeling your feelings and me. I'm serious. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Where for you, I mean, for you to look at the death of your mother and have these feelings about it, but for me to be like, I'm not looking at that, my mom is dead and I'm going to
Starting point is 00:38:49 deal with it someday. You know what I mean? You know what I mean? Just keep jamming it. Yeah, I think that's my own discomfort with it. Sure. Yeah. Yeah, I hadmed real hard, jammed everything down. Yeah, and then I eventually exploded. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:39:06 And it was bad. Right. So, but that's not gonna happen to me. Oh, that's you. No, you've got an infinite jam. I'm like, my pit is endless. I think I just keep shitting it out is what's happening. Oh, God bless. Yeah, it's amazing. Yeah. I. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's not. that's that's that's that's that's not. that's not. that's not. that's not. that's not. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's that's th. th. th. that's not. th. thi. that's not. th. that's not. that's not. that's not. that's not. that's not. that's not. that's not. that's not. that's not. that's amazing. I'm like a two-headed alligator over here. I'm real mad because I can't take a shit. I got a head on both ends.
Starting point is 00:39:32 No, I get it now. I get it now. Wow. That's... Yeah. I was watching a TV show and somebody said, you're softer than drugstore cotton and I was like fuck I need to incorporate that in my daily thing saying that to people. Softer the drugstore cotton. I feel like you don't get to say that to
Starting point is 00:39:54 anyone. No. Yeah I am litigantly softened. You actually I'm gonna go ahead and say that you are softer than drugstore gun and that's okay. It's working for you. Man, be a wimp rules. That's great. That's great. That's great. That's great. That's great. That's great. That's great. That's great. That's great. That's great. That's great. That's great. I th. That's great. I just, sometimes you don't want to look at them. No, no. So you've got to open the bottom drawer. Yeah. You just shove it in there and you can put, close it. Counterpoint, you just walk around to Yeah. Because you're like, this is gonna come out anyway, so let me just get this out of the way. Might as well start now. That's fine, we're doing great. We're both so well.
Starting point is 00:40:29 Oh, hey. Hey. Hey. Friends, Romance, loved ones? Country, country men and women. Patrons. I've said a bunch of you messages to give us shout-outs and let us know what names you want for your shout-outs and all that stuff. No one's responding to me.
Starting point is 00:40:50 Dickheads. Yeah, you're just giving us money without the kindness of being able to exploit you. What? What? Yeah. Do what Alan says. If he asks you to email him, you email him. My worry is that Patreon is not notifying that they have an email. So it's just sitting there. Whatever. Yeah. They'll get to it. They'll get to it when they get to it. Hey, Katie. Do you want to hear this voicemail that we received? Oh, this is being sprung on me. Hey, Yins. This is Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia Olivia this is Olivia Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is Olivia this is a a this is Olivia this is a video this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a this is a video this is a video the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the theater, the the theater, the the the thea. thea. the thea. the the the the the Native. I just listened to your Skin Mering episode and you guys asked about the theater experience.
Starting point is 00:41:30 So me and my husband saw it down the waterfront, the weekend that it came out. I don't know, I guess we didn't have as crazy as an experience as you guys were expecting, but it was still kind of entertaining because everybody. Like the girl next to me looked like like, to to to to to their, their, to their, to toe, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, and their, and their, and to me, and their, and their, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I was, and I was, and I was, and I was, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they.ea, they.ea, they.ea, theymea, theya, theymea, they.ea, the the the the the the th th Like the girl next to me looked like she was driving into the sun, watching with her hand in front of her face through her fingers. But mostly it was just a lot of people felt like this was an appropriate movie to eat snacks in. So there was just a lot of, you know, crickling snack bags and candy wrappers and things of that nature. But I mean, we didn't, I don't know if enjoy the movie is the right word, but we definitely found it to be effective, definitely made us very anxious, kind of captured this very specific terror of being an anxious child awake at night in the dark.
Starting point is 00:42:14 Anyway, love you guys a show. I hope you guys hear this and take what you will from it. All right, bye. Olivia. I love you. I love you for many reasons, but most of which is when you said, we saw it down the waterfront. You didn't have to tell me you were Pittsburgh native, baby. I knew. Also complaining about people eating snacks around you?
Starting point is 00:42:38 Oh, very on brand for this podcast. I see Olivia's point though, because you're watching that movie and it's like supposed to be building this tension and someone's like, give me the raisin hats. I'm not here for Skinner Crink, what are you guys doing? No, crunching popcorn like, thrown, pnck, phrie. Thank you, Olivia. If you would like to leave us a voicemail, you would want to call. 412-407-025? Sure. No, look it up.
Starting point is 00:43:10 If I got this right, I'm very proud of myself. What is our number? 412, 407, 7025. You got it. Really? You nailed that donkey. Fuck I did. See, when you shove your feelings down, you have way more room for numbers. That's why I'm math-phobic, because all my feelings are right on the top.
Starting point is 00:43:33 You're like, what is the square root of... What is the square root of... What are we going to do, Alan? What are we going to do next week? Should we do something fun? Katie. I don't know if it's fun or not, I've never seen it. Well, you know what's going to be fun? Tell me what's going to be fun.

Starting point is 00:45:05 And if you have it, if it's on hoopla, you can take it out of a library anytime. Libby has limited amounts. I'm sorry, I'm really hung up on the idea that it's a library. I'll look into it. But not before next week, so fuck it. Yeah, we're going to do annihilation starring Natalie Portman. And so mad at her. I just don't like her. And, uh, oh, who's the woman that's in everything?
Starting point is 00:45:32 Uh, Tessa Thompson is also in it. I don't know who that is. You don't know Tessa Thompson? You would know Tessa Thompson. I'm going to pull her up on my phone so you can see her. Well, it's going to be a picture where. Shit, she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she's th she's th she's th she's th. You she's th. You th th. You th th th a picture where it's not gonna be here. Starting point is 00:45:48 Yes, I do. Yeah. That's Tessa Thompson. Okay, I see it now. Oh, you mean Tessa Thompson. Oh, when you said, When you're talking about t four movies. She's in a told of stuff. I'm aware of her but I have not seen any of this. Janelle Monet music videos. Nope. Unless you've been in anything on Acorn. You should really, do you not get down on Janel Monet? Not really? Should I? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:17 My? I stopped listening to new music in 2002. It's hard for me. That's not true. Is it? It's getting there. Oh no, buddy. Well, the further I get from it, it's like, well, this stuff I already know. Oh, I see, I see. I'll just listen to mineral again. You can do both. Ah, can I though? I've been hitting the water boys really hard recently,
Starting point is 00:46:43 who are this like 80s, British folk rock band. Okay. Yeah, and I'm just feeling it right now. Good for you. They have a song called The Whole of the Moon that you might have heard. It's real good. Anyway, they were real influential on like you too.
Starting point is 00:46:59 Okay. Yeah. I've been listening to a lot of the Vanga Boys lately. Because... Sort of a folk rock group in the... Sort of a British Folk Rock. D-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. I only know one song by the Venga Boys. The Benga Train is Coming. And there's, you might know, you might also know.
Starting point is 00:47:21 No, wait. They have another, they have another hit that you'll know. One moment. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Oh, they're Dutch. Oh, of course they are. Yeah. I didn't think they were Dutch. Have you watched Cunka on Earth?
Starting point is 00:47:37 What? No. Filomena Cunk is the host of the show, Cunk on Earth. It's like a mockumentary where she's an idiot and she interviews people and says things like, we know that Alexander the Great conquered most of the known world by the time that he was 22, but what did his hair look like? And in every episode, she's like, yes, this was almost as big of a cultural thing as the song Pump Up the Jams. And that's, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the the the the th, the the the the the their, their, thi, their, their, their, the show, the show, the show, the show, the, the, the, the, their, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. Starting point is 00:48:09 that Sets of Sonic was Belgian. Really I had no idea that pump up that pump up. I swear to God everybody on the world loves jock jams whether they know it or not. It's just a true statement of fact. Except for that one petter ass. We're going to give that one up, right? They didn't know at the time that they put out Jock Jams. Yeah. Man, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No. No. No.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Alan knows the other Vanga Boys song. Kind of sounds like that red bone hit from the 70s. I don't know it. How long has this episode been going on? Oh, it's only 49 minutes. Are you joking? Fuck. It's bloody though.
Starting point is 00:48:54 Okay. So yeah, come back for annihilation. Come back for Perry, to their. Come back for Perry and I are going to, so. You won't come back. Come back. Come back. Come back. Starting point is 00:49:14 You won't. I'll bring the Doritos. You like cool rancher regular. This movie is very weed in a lot of ways. Very weed in a lot of ways. Oh great. Yeah, so I think you're gonna like it. Okay, well Perry knows what he's doing. Yeah, Perry.
