Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 420- Annihilation (2018) feat. Smoking Joe Perry

Episode Date: March 13, 2023

Dudes, it's 420! We're celebrating by hanging with our friend Perry and discussing his pick, the 2018 sci-fi horror film "Annihilation." In the grand tradition of Werewolf Ambulance, though, it was no...t quite the movie he remembered. This is what they get for not letting me watch "Bong of the Dead," seriously! Special topics for your consideration include: wondering whether this movie is a metaphor for drugs or just sadness, exhaustion as a character choice, dealing with the consequences of not knowing a thing, and of course, weed. 420 baby! Thanks for sticking with us though so many ridiculous episodes-- we are truly grateful for all of yinz. We're going to be off next week for a lil break, but you can catch us TOMORROW as special guests on the God Awful Movies podcast (Episode 395- "The Exorcist 2: The Heretic.") The only other thing I want to hype this week is Perry! Catch him on Episode 55- "Silence of the Lambs" and all of his stunning art on Instagram @smoking_joe_studio or on his website http://www.smokingjoestudio.com  Otherwise, the regular lineup of links: patreon.com/werewolfambulance  merch at www.teepublic.com/user/werewolfambulance on Reddit at r/werewolfambulance on Facebook at facebook.com/werewolfambulance on Twitter @werebulance on Instagram @werewolfambulance. werewolfambulance@gmail.com www.werewolfambulance.com   If you liked this, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen! Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, Katie. Hi, Alan. I understand. You understand? I understand. I understand why you're asking for my resignation and to step away from the podcast. Like here's a thing, Alan. I need you to know things. And when you don't know things, then I don't need you anymore.
Starting point is 00:00:32 I mixed up Stetsonic, the Prince Paul Project with Tectotronic, the Belgian dance band. I'm so sorry. Who let you know about this? My friend Brian?this is your doing. AKA Dozer. Dozer. Dozer. Dozer. So this week Katie is a,
Starting point is 00:00:53 she's trying out my replacement, I believe. Yeah, I think it's gonna go well. We're here with our friend Perry. Hey, hey, how's everybody? Good. Good. Perry has suggested a film to us. It's episode 420, Alan smoked weed. Don't tell anybody. That's why I just fucked up. Normally I don't make mistakes. No. For the first time in over 10 years I've smoked the marijuana.

Alan's reign of terror is over. Right. And yours begin. Yeah. Enter the Perry Dairy. the's enter, one Perry leaves. Y'all might remember Perry from the Silence of the Lambs episode where he did his amazing Jody Foster impression. Dr. Lacter. That's actually better than the one you were doing it before. You've approved. Dr. Lacter. And you might remember Katie and I from earlier.
Starting point is 00:02:02 From the last 419 plus episodes. What are we here to talk about tonight, Perry? 2018 movie Annihilation, featuring a very tired-looking Natalie Portman. I'll dare you. She's got a lot of life strife going on in this film. Yeah. It was, I'm trying to make a lot of jokes about it but it is a hard watch. And why did you choose this movie? I don't remember being so dark. I just remember being like Cole psychedelic aspects to it and I was like a 420 movie we got to annihilation and I'm like oh we shouldn't have done an

That's what we're doing next week. 421, I'm a movie late. Hey man.
Starting point is 00:03:00 You want I smoke weed? Oh boy. This movie has a bunch of people that I know from other things, such as one Jennifer Jason Lee. J.JL. I was so happy to see her. Yeah, and luckily she made it through this without getting stabbed in the eye with a high heel. Or stabbing anyone with a high heel. Yeah, she stabs Brian from Wings with a high heel. Oh, spoilers. Is that the character Dr. Ventris? Yes. Okay. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. She's also a Hudsucker Proxy. She's also a thing she's well known for as well. Right. Because she spoke speaks like a newsy during that entire movie. What is it?
Starting point is 00:03:33 Hudd's sucker proxy? No. No. No. Fast times at Ridgemont High? Isn't that her? Is it? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, for sure. For sure. Tessa Thompson, T. Toms. Toms. Toms. Toms. Toms. Yes, Tessa Thompson, of course, as I mentioned in the last episode, who's literally in everything. I guess so. Oh, wow. She was a Josey. Was she like a head CEO in Westworld? Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Okay, that's where I knew her from. She is the Valkeryr-in' the Thorough movies. She is, she was in Veronica Mars. Okay. Sorry, you mispronounced Veratica? Veronica Mars. A crossover that everyone wants to see. Real werewolves. Oh, but what this movie presupposes is that they're all fucking vampires.
Starting point is 00:04:23 It's never coming out. I don't think it's that they're all fucking vampires. It's never coming out. I don't think so. I don't think it is. No. Fuck. Benedict Wong, who's also in a bunch of those Marvel movies. If you've ever seen a Marvel movie. No.
Starting point is 00:04:35 He's in the Doctor Strange movies for sure. And then, of course, the hunky-hunky Oscar Isaac. I don't know who he is either. He was Cain in this movie. He's in a ton of, he's in your Star War, he's in your, I think he's in Moon Night, some marble thing. It does sound like something I made up. He's in a ton of stuff. He's in, ah, never mind. Fuck it. I just find him to be a very hunky individual. Yeah, pretty good looking. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And your girl. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he. He, he's. He's he. He's in. He's in he. He's in he. I just find him to be a very hunky individual. Yeah, pretty good looking. Mm-hmm. And your girl, Natalie Portman? Natalie, Motherfucking Portman.
Starting point is 00:05:12 So it occurred to me that maybe I don't hate Natalie Portman. I just think that Garden State destroyed an entire generation people. Oh yeah, don't blame her. But that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. that. that. that. that. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that in it! But that's that douchbag's fault, not hers. I guess, I don't know. I think it's that whole movie's fault. That's not whole, yes, it's not whole movie's fault. And she's part of that whole movie.
Starting point is 00:05:31 That was like the death of the Manny, Pixie Dream Girl, right? Right there. Yeah. Rip. I. R. R. R. R. R. R. R. R. R. R. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. Yes wearing a bike helmet. I've always thought she seemed cool, like a cool lady. I just think she's smarter than me. Because she went to Havid. And she's prettier than me, so of course I hate her. Yeah, that's how I treat women. She has that birth mark where it would just be like, oh, you got a mole on your face, Alan. And I'm like, yeah she's got a beauty mark. It accentuates her beauty. It sure does, it's like on her perfect cheekbone. Yeah good lord.
Starting point is 00:06:09 What the fuck Natalie put me? Now I'm back to hating her again. You can't be mad just don't hate her because she's beautiful. Okay I hate her because her movie spawned like a whole bunch of really annoying twee hipster people. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But she made up for a lot of stuff. I don't know if I ran anything else. She was in this. She was in Black Swan. She was in a Star War. Yeah, she's Princess a Madala. What? Star War? Wasn't that like 30 years ago? You guys need to chill on that? Hi. Star war? Yeah. I'm in the same boat as you on that? I'm in the same boat as you. I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th t as thing twee thing twee twee. I thing twee. I twee. I twee. I twee twee twee twee. I? You guys need to chill on that. Star War? Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you on that.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Stop making them. Are they still making them? Yeah, of course. Oh my God. It's TV shows now. George Lucas is rolling over in his grave. He's still alive. He's rolling over in his bed then. His bed of money. Not to become a George Lucas Stan podcast, but...
Starting point is 00:07:07 But when he was, when the Star Wars movies were bought by Disney, he took a bunch of that money and built low-income housing in his neighborhood, because all the people in his neighborhood, because all the people in his neighborhood were pissed about the idea of poor people moving in, he's like, oh yeah, fuck you. Let's attract him. Good, good for him. That is for him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:29 He seems to be a decent enough human being. Whatever. He just made so really bad moves. Yeah, I hear about Guy Fieri, yeah. Oh yeah, who's mad at Guy Fiedy? Gie. Zest. Yeah, put a little stank on his name. Yeah. There's a, I can't remember the comedian's name, he has a great joke, because like, why is everybody mad at Guy Fierry just for living his dreams? It's a Shantorris. It's a shantaurus. It's a the only professional comedian
Starting point is 00:07:52 podcast I listen to because I feel like his podcast that you told me about. Yeah, no accounting. No accounting for taste. I feel like it should be for people like us. You know what? Non-professional comedians? Yeah. Kyle Canain is my absolute favorite. Like, oh he's so fucking funny. Yeah. But we're not here to talk about Kyle Canane. No. Yeah, this movie doesn't mean I have to ramble forever. Wow, I know you need to clear out your desk at the end of this shit. But we can't drag this on. It's true.
Starting point is 00:08:33 It's true. I asked my final. I'm going to. This is all a joke. I'm not really leaving. Put the plant in the. This is the Whewool Ambulance Studio. I'm sorry, I don't have a setup like this. Uh, so how does this movie open?
Starting point is 00:08:54 Natalie Portman looking tired. See, she's not that pretty. Nah, no, I'm not saying that to be a dick. Like, you know, um, chauvinistic, like, it opens the opening shot ofing this this this this this this this this the opening shot this this this thing s-auping s-a-uping s-uping s-uping s-uping s-a-a-fi-fi-fi-fi-fi-fi-fi-fi-fi-fi-f, th. thi-fi-f, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. And I appreciate that she's just willing to like, fucking go there and just be like, yeah, I'm gonna look all busted because I'm tired and maybe not myself.
Starting point is 00:09:20 Yeah. Spoilers for the end of this movie. Oh, I meant. Oh, I meant to have anyone read these books. I have not. Okay. I just found out today when I watched the movie that they're based off books. Yeah, Jeff Vandemir is the author of the books.
Starting point is 00:09:35 And I think specifically, Annihilation, the first book in the series is fantastic and very different from this movie. Oh, is it? Very different. Yeah, yeah. It's a lot more about language. Oh, interesting. Like, there's a creature that writes on a wall, but they can't quite decipher what it is, and it's terrifying. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:58 And for some reason, that image from the book has really stuck with me, because it's in a tower that's underground and they insist that it's a tower that's underground. So it's like this inversion of language and all this like really interesting stuff that he does. That's really cool. Yeah. He's good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's stuff is like very swampy, very mosty. He writes really like, swamp fiction. Okay. Swamp fiction. Yeah, his stuff is like very swampy, very mossy. Like it's all, you get into the, much like this movie, you get into the, the minutia of like
Starting point is 00:10:35 the environment that you're in. I felt like this movie was what the Ruins wanted to be. Oh my God. Did you see the ruins? I've watched that. It has that the main character in the ruins is the same main character from that movie 100 girls or something. Oh I haven't seen that. It's like some some cruddy teen heartthrob sort of a love story. Don't watch it. It's bad. You liked it? Nah. No. No.
Starting point is 00:11:07 No. No. I was true. So we meet Lena who's Natalie Portman's character in this room and she's being interviewed by Benedict Wong in a hazmat suit with two guys standing behind him. And then a room full of people observing through the glass. I like that a lot. Yes. Very tensiony. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. And she. And she. And she. And she. And she. And she. And she. And she. And she. And, no. And, no. And, no. And, no. And, no. And, no. And, no. And, no. And, no. And, no. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. the. the. the. the, the, the, the, the, the, the. the the. the the. the, the. the. the. the. the. the. a room full of people observing through the glass. I like that a lot. Very tensiony. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and she says like, they, they're like, you had two weeks worth of rations and you were gone for four months. What did you eat?
Starting point is 00:11:36 Yeah. I don't remember eating. Yeah. Yeah. Real creepy. . . Yeah, yeah, real creepy. Right out the gate. Mm-hmm. But then it cuts to her, prior to this, at her college professor job, where she like lounges in a chair, she's down on the student level, you know, she's just like one of them.
Starting point is 00:11:56 I was just like, hey, Doc, Prof, can you stand up? Stand up and have some authority. Take off that tube top. Put on a blazer. You wear a blouse, goddame it. I'm paying a lot of money for this. Yeah, you're a Johns Hopkins. How is she a tenured professor of Johns Hopkins? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:19 She looks perpetually, like, perpetually like 25 years old. Yeah, God damn she's probably my age. She's probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably, she's probably, thia, thia, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably, probably in the th and she's probably, probably, probably in a the middle, old. Yeah, she's a child. Yeah, God damn, she's probably my age. Or she's probably your age. She's probably in the middle. Yeah, yeah. She's 80. We see her have like an uncomfortable interaction with another professor, who's like, I'm just inviting you to a barbecue. And I was like, man, if my husband dies, I'm definitely gonna go to a barbecue. He's not coming back. I was like, man, if my husband dies, I'm definitely going to go to a barbecue. I love that scene because like they're
Starting point is 00:12:47 talking and the camera pans out and he's been holding her elbow the entire time. I'm like, oh too intimate, get off that elbow champ. The only note I have on that is take a hint Dan. though. And then we learned that Oscar Isaac was her husband in flashbacks of them having a tickle party. Oh God I hate this. I hate flashbacks of people having a happy time. I assume you were happy. Like that slightly sunny vignette around the edges. Yeah. It was always a beautiful day when you're happy.
Starting point is 00:13:22 I never like a pile of like do bills and like a cat knocking dishes over just like all hell breaking loose them yelling at each other you know like a real marriage. Like a real real relationship yeah it's a happy memory guy. No one's like oh man when to fuck on those past two bills are there. Yeah. That's subversive though. Fuck on a pile of our... Are you gonna take out the trash first? Scoup the cat box test.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Scoot the cat box tests. You're gonna have to scoop the litter before we do this. After you shower, of course. And then she's sobbing, lots of sobbing. She does sob quite a bit. And we learn from the conversation with Dan that her partner has been gone for over a year. Right. He's not coming back.
Starting point is 00:14:13 He's not coming back. But then, conveniently timed. I have the note, Crosby stills, Nash and Young, classic folk. That cane walks into the house, stares at some photos at the bottom of the stairs, goes upstairs to be expected. Natalie Portman loses her shit. Fast forward to them sitting downstairs in almost like police interrogation style,
Starting point is 00:14:40 where he's like sitting in a chair, and she's like standing there talking to him. With a glass of water like too far away from him? Yeah. Are you thirsty, the the the the thi??? thi? thi? thi? thi? thi? thi? thi? thi? I? thi? I thirsty, thi? I? I? I? I thi? I thi? With a glass of water like too far away from him. Yeah. Are you a thirsty cane? I definitely thought this was like a dream or he was a ghost or yeah but no he's really perfect. Yeah I like how like dead his affect is too too. He's like when she hugs him he gives nothing back to her and then she kisses him and he's like okay I guess. Yeah. I like. I like. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's like. He's like. He's like, and then she kisses him, and he's like, okay, I guess. Is this what we do? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Do you have the note that says, don't drink the water, there's blood in the water? Because that's Alan's favorite song. Oh, what if it was? The only note I have about Kane in that scene is, Kane doesn't know anything. It's every question question th question tha question tha question she she she she she she she No, Kate knows that. It's every question she asks, like, I don't know. Yeah. How'd you get here?
Starting point is 00:15:29 I don't know. She's pissed. Sure. She's pissed. Wouldn't you be? I don't know. Like you'd want an answer if Rob came home after a year. If he seemed as shocked and traumatized as this man did, I'd think I'd let him lie down.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Maybe let him drink that glass of water. Yeah, but he bleeds in it. He bleeds in the water? He takes a sip and says, the very awkward, I don't feel very well. Yeah. I was like, oh, that's not like your first language, is it? Because no one would say that. Yeah. And then cut to an ambulance being chased by black SUVs. So X-Files. Yeah. Yeah. Gotta love that military industrial complex. Yeah. They've the the cops or FBI or X-Files force them to pull over. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Yeah. And like yell at her a bunch and take her into custody and take him into. Question mark? Hospital custody? Yeah, I guess so. Quarantine? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:36 But they shoot her in the neck with some kind of drug that knocks her out. And they get the screen card of Area X. Yes. She's an Area X now. My next note says says, th is th is, I th is, I th is, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, and then we get the screen card of Area X. Yes. She's an Area X now. My next note says, I hear that. I sit up and barf a lot, too. But I don't know what that means. So she's hung over from the sedative that they gave her. She sits up and then she has to barf.
Starting point is 00:16:58 Yeah. Oh yeah, like, which sounds so much in my head like Dr. Venture, if you've all ever watched the Venture Brothers, which is a fantastic cartoon. When is it from? Then the last, like, oh God, probably 10 or 15 years now? Is it adult swim? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's a really good cartoon. It's really good time. Thanks. Anyway, so she's like, I want to see a lawyer.
Starting point is 00:17:25 And J.J.L. just goes, lawyer denied. J.J.L. is also very flat in this. Her delivery of everything is just like, like between nothing and disdain. Yeah. Yeah. Do you know what? I have a note further down in the movie where it says, Dr. Ventras seems like she's on a very. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to be. to be. to be. to be. to be a very. to be a very. to be a very. to be a very. to be a very. to be a very. to be a very. to be a very. to be a toe. to be a to be a toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to.. to..................................................................................................................... Yeah, she really does. She's a very understated performance. More like Dr. Ludes. So she tells, Dr. Ventris tells Lena that her husband is having multiple organ failure.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Right. And does she like, radiation? Yeah. And she's like, I can actually help him. Like, as if the other people there couldn't, because she's like a 37-year-old biologist? She's like a cell doctor, though. She specializes in cells. She is a cell doctor. What would you call that? A biologist? Yeah. Yeah. Well, so in the book...
Starting point is 00:18:20 Cellular biologists. Cellular biologists. Okay. Cellologist. In the book, there, you never know any of their names. All of the characters are known by their profession. So there's a psychologist, the biologist, yada, yada, yada. Okay. Which is interesting that they changed it for the movie. And I was like, they probably, people just couldn't pay attention if it wasn't names. I think it's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, th. That's, th. That's, th. That's, th. That's, th. That's, th. That's, th. That's, th. th. thi. thi. thi. the the they. they. they. they. their. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. the the the the the their. the the their. their. the their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. Celelolololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololologe. C. C. their I think it's that's probably studio notes yeah. Yeah. I mean this movie like definitely feels like a big blockbuster movie. Yes and was it? No. No. No. I think it people watched it but I don't think it was like a major hit. Yeah yeah I don't think. I mean this book is the first of a trilogy. Yeah I was gonna say did they ever make the other. the other. the other. the other. the other. the other. the other. the other. the the the the the the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. I. I. I. the. the. the. the. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I'm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. this book is the first of a trilogy. Yeah, I was going to say, did they ever make the other movies? Oh. And Hollywood loves a trilogy.
Starting point is 00:19:09 They just love making more of anything. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because if you have one, why not have eight? Spider-Man, yeah. Yeah, revenge of Speck. What of the fucking movies has been an origin story. It's Aunt May's origin story. Is that her name? Wood Watch? Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Yes. J. J. L. Not to be confused with Joseph Gordon. Did you just watch Third Rock from the Sun instead? He were like, I know it's about aliens. I just don't. Oh man, I've never seen a single second of that fucking show.
Starting point is 00:19:47 My nona loved that show. Really? Yeah, she loved it. Did she love some lithgow? She did like lithe go. I love lithe go. I love lithe go. Lithgow.
Starting point is 00:19:56 Try it, it's so fun. There you go. You gotta make the O with your mouth. Lift go. There you go. There you go. So, Dr. Ventra shows her the shimmer. What did y'all think of the shimmer?
Starting point is 00:20:15 I didn't know what to make of it, Perry. It was right up my alley. I have the note, Trapperkeeper keeper, shimmer, laser background on school photos. Yeah, I mean, it's your aesthetic very much. Oh, very much. Yeah, like glitterly and swirly and weird looking. And rainbow, yeah. It was like an oil slick in the sky that was made out of KY jelly.
Starting point is 00:20:38 It was all very bizarre. Which is your aesthetic. I love a KY. Slip andide, baby. Looming it up. And Venturist tells her that the shimmer keeps growing and eventually it's going to take over where they are currently. Nothing ever comes back and the boundary is getting bigger. This is where I also wrote, I just had to rewind this like a full minute
Starting point is 00:21:02 because I was thinking about how much I hate Garden State. I managed to never see that movie, so I do not have the hatred of that film. I had a very Tweed roommate who loved it and thought it was like so cute and romantic and it's just like when you're young and you for these feelings and I was like, I'm, fuck you, I'm watching Law and Order S-V-U. Get out. I'm watching singles instead which is a much more accurate movie about love. I can't hardly wait for the 50th time. No I mean that's a good one. Oh it's so good. Yeah. I don't see no that was skinny. Yeah. God didn't make mistakes. That's what somebody says. Yeah. This is not not true. It's true. Look at Mitch McConnell. Hey, I heard he's in the hospital. Yeah, he fell down. So he fell in a hotel. He pooped himself like Putin?
Starting point is 00:21:57 I hope so. Pooping like Putin. Lett him here pooping. Oh man, I missed that one. Oh man, I missed that one. Swing and miss. That's a sports reference. Alan, just say you know. I can make sure you know. I believe I've made that sports reference before.
Starting point is 00:22:15 I actually know that reference from watching The Simpsons. So we see some fucking. It's like, oh you fuck, good for you. I just have the note, sick tat, bro. Sick tat, bro. She couldn't really make out what it was. I thought it was like some sort of like robotic bear claw or something. No, that is my next to do.
Starting point is 00:22:39 And she has the like infinity symbol on her inner forearm, Yeah. It's e-fucking normis? Yeah. Imagine getting that stencil on you and being like, no, that's, yeah, that's what I wanted. I mean, I got a lot of bad tattoos. You don't have anything that bad. Oh, yeah, you do. Yeah, you do. I can't talk.
Starting point is 00:22:58 I have really well done bad tattoos. I have Nelly lyrics on my butt. I mean, I know Alan's stance on tattoos and I agree with it. Yeah, tattoos are dumb. Kid dumb tattoos. Exactly. We see them fucking in another flashback that she has in this like long line of sad flashbacks that she has. Sad, happy, sad, happy, happy flashbacks. Yeah. We meet the rest of, she wants to go, she wants to go into the shimmer, there's a team that's going into the shimmer and she wants to go. Right. She meets them and they're all women. They are, they're all beautiful women. Of course they are.
Starting point is 00:23:32 I have the note, let's introduce the science squad. It really is. It's like the breakfast club but adult, I'm the the the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th, the, the, th, th, the, the, the, the, the, it's, the, the, it's, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, it's, it's like, it's, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, tho, the, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, thin. It's, thin. It's, they. threat. threat. threat. they. they. they. they. they. threat. threat. threat. threat. threat. the, threatthe loner, I'm the rebel, I'm the brain. I'm the brawn. But it's also like, but no uggos. Oh my God, we're not like a single fucking uggo on this trip. And so we're getting this idea that there are two theories of what's happening in the shimmer, which is either that something that other teams have gone in and something either kills them or they go crazy and kill each other which I also really love because it's an extremely X-Files concede. Sure, sure. Yeah. I also get the woman who says that hitting on
Starting point is 00:24:11 Natalie Portman and I was like well are we gonna go there movie because no one's mad at that that's where we're gonna go's just her like vertebra going up and down. Is that sexy? I don't know. She does a lot of wriggling, I guess. Yeah, sure. Is that how you're supposed to do it? Who knows?
Starting point is 00:24:35 I don't know. I couldn't tell you. Barry, you've sexed. Tell us about wriggling. I'm a virgin. I mean, the rhythm's gonna get you. Nell. I'm stuck in my head for the rest of the evening. So she goes to see Dr. Ventris and she's like, I want to go and she's like, I bet you do.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Yes, she's like, so smug about it. Yeah. Still talking like so smug about it. Yeah. Still talking like she's on downers. Yeah. Every scene. And we find out that Lena was in the military for seven years. Thank you for her service. Thank you for your service.
Starting point is 00:25:13 We support our troops. Don't you fucking forget it. And, uh, yeah. And they're like, oh, military service, scientist. Me likey. Let's do this. You can fight, you can learn, you can save him. That's what she says.
Starting point is 00:25:31 Yeah. I thought that couldn't have been in the book. Which I felt like was just like, oh also, fuck you, I guess, for thin. You could save your husband. Yeah. Oh, man. So then we get the the thi thi thi thi thi thi the thi thi thi the thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, you thi, you thi, you thi, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't thi, you can't thi, you can't thi, you can't thi, you can't thi, you thi, th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. man. So then we get this title card for the shimmer. And we see Lena fucking Dan. She is fucking Dan.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Yeah. Yeah. And then true. I got that note that says dirtbag move, cheating on your husband when he's MIA. Yeah. Oh great. That's a bad guy. Now you know why Dan was being weird. Can't just grab somebody's elbow like that.
Starting point is 00:26:11 How did these, does the book explain how the other women ended up there? Like, what they, did they volunteer? Were they recruited? Are they tra- or they allowed to leave? Did they have to go to the shimmer? Like how did any of that happen? They all want to go to the shimmer and the movie kind of lays that out and I think similar ways to the way the book does we're like we're all fucked up and that's why we chose this mission. It's really vague I felt. I also feel like it mentioned at some point Dr. Ventris vetted every candidate that were going in too, she was like assessing
Starting point is 00:26:49 all these people individually to find out that them go in. If I remember quickly, it's been a while since I read the book, which is good because the first time I saw this movie I hated it because it'd been too close to me reading the book and I'm one of those people. Well, smug. Just like Dr. Ventras. Ooh, I read books. Oh, I'm literate.
Starting point is 00:27:11 You both read books, too. But if I remember correctly, in the book, the psychologist is manipulating everyone. And the psychologist is Dr. Ventura. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. So I think there's like that sort of alluded to kind of in a way like how she's just kind of like manipulating her into doing a thing. I guess so, yeah. But yeah, so they just walk right into the shimmer like it's a fucking Tuesday. For a moment it looks like it's filmed in the tropical indoor plant section of IKEA. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. the. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. the. the into the shimmer like it's a fucking Tuesday. For a moment it looks like it's filmed in the tropical indoor plant section of IKEA. It looks a little shitty for a few minutes there. I also have the note when it's like the five of them from that back shot just says
Starting point is 00:27:54 they look like the ghost buster. Going in there and bust the shimmer. Speaking of tattoos. Speaking of tattoos. Hush now. So the next thing we see is them sort of all waking up intense. They don't remember anything beyond the tree line but by looking at their rations they're able to figure out that they've been out for like three or four days. Ask me if I love this. Did you love that? I did love it? I have the note feels too close to a bad trip. Like when you're just like kind of tricking and your shit's all over the floor and you're like, I don't know where my left shoe is, I'm trying to go down the street to buy gummy candy.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Like, I'm just having a hard time. Like, that's what it felt like when you're just like so disoriented and like, like out of sorts. I sort of associated it with being blackout drunk and waking up the next day and just being like, oh now I have to piece together everything that's happened in the past 24 to 48 hours. Why you're sleeping in only a bra and you have marker all over your face? You're like, oh, what were those things? Wight clau-surges that we drank that night that we ruined our lives? Did you know that they make like 9% white claws? No. Oh, it's terrible.
Starting point is 00:29:09 Hey, this tastes like candy? Why don't you jug it? Shug it? And then the next morning, wake up in just a bra with marker on your face. I have no idea why. So they've lost days, their compass is toast, it's not working, it's just spinning and spinning. And Ventura, she's like, all right, move out. Well, so I like this one trick that the, this is Shepard, she is the, I don't know what her role is. She's like, Scandinavian lady. Yes. She does this thing where she like looks at her watch. It's like, the threat. It's, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. th. the the th. the, the, the, th. the, the, the, the, the, the, th. thin, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thin, thin, thin, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the, th. th. the, thin, the, the, the, the the the. the thr. they. they. the the they. they. the they. they. they. they. thr. thr. Ventra. Ventra. thr. looks at her watch and orients them to like she does a quick calculation on like you look at it north south yeah and like she's like
Starting point is 00:29:47 you look at your watch and you subtract two or something and you yeah she's like it's it's midway between noon and your butthole yes I thought well orienting your watch is a pretty cool skill and then I looked at my own watch which is digital so I forgot that about you I I just can't do it. Push it into the sand and then use it as a sundial. But I was like, okay, so you do that with your watch and then you just have to hold your watch up and walk for however long you have to walk for. Yes, or you walk, yeah, I guess. And that's what a compass would be too, right? Yeah, but that's not going to move as minutes pass. Fair, true. You said to keep doing math. Good at math, bad at clocks. I am the opposite. Great o'clock. Every time we watch a movie where they'll like show
Starting point is 00:30:33 an analog clock to be like, you know, a plot point, Dodge always be like, what time is that? I still feel like I'm in grade school where I have to do 5, 10, 15, 20, and go around. I don't know what that means. I'm sorry. Well, there's like a little hand. Don't teach me now. I'm not, alright. This is why people think I'm done.
Starting point is 00:30:55 Because you won't learn on a long time. No, when Lucy learns I will. You've needed to 39 without this. I I I I I thin thin thin thin thin thin, I. I. I thin, I. I thin, I will. You've made it to 39 without this. I have a digital watch, don't I? When the shit goes down, and all we have is analog clocks. I won't be here, thank you so much. I won't care what time it is, then I'll have nowhere to be. So they move out, and then they find a house in the swamp, and they all think. We did you go on in that house? Yeah. We've also seen at this point the sort of mutating flowers that they're like beautiful. Very pretty, very cool. Very psychedelic too. Yeah. Also I think by this point we've started
Starting point is 00:31:33 seeing trees with like the rainbow moss up the side. Yes. And like the fungi. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It seems like it shimmers a nice place to live. This is why I wanted to watch that movie, because I watched it years ago and all I could remember was the cool scenery. Sure. And then fast forward to watching it today and I'm like, holy shit, this is really dark when you actually pay attention to what they're saying. Yeah. It's so beautiful, I had a sad. And what's in the water? Well Tessa Thompson gets snatched by her bag and keeps yelling it's got my pack and it's dragging her underwater and Natalie Portman all but four-foot-four of her just like jumps in like, fuck you, motherfuck! That's a military training.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Pulls her out and then they run out of the house and something gigantic is slapping the water. I love this. And I was like, I hate this. It's so good and gross. I don't want to be anywhere near what it ever is making that much splash. Yeah, it's a monster crogator. Yeah, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. tha. tha. tha. tho. tho. the. thi. the. the. the. the. the. thoes. thoes. thoes. thoes. thoes. thoes. thoes. thoes. tha. tha. tha. tha. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It's. It's. It's tha. It's tha. It's the. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like, thea. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like, thea. It's like. It's like. It's like, thea. It's thea. It's the. It's a monster crock a gator. Yeah, it's like albino and also blood red between its scales. I thought it was strawberry shortcake. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:51 Very much was. Yeah. Like strawberry shortcake themed alligator with shark teeth. Cool Keith reference? Maybe. Did it have bees around its an anus? That's all I could think about it. It was like alligator with shark teeth? Like shark alligator man? I'm like, half a tea? Shark alligator, half man? Yeah. Oh man, God bless him.
Starting point is 00:33:13 He had a whole skit on his doctor octagon record. We were just like, you have bees around your rectum. Why? Like, that was a diagnosis he gave somebody. I like that a lot. I believe it is more than a cool key. Definitely check out Dr. Octagon. I believe his, his, if you want to call his office,
Starting point is 00:33:36 his number is 1,800 PPP, Poo, Poo, poo. He's very funny. So yeah, it's this giant alligator that Natalie Portman puts, I don't know, 700 bullets into? And it finally dies. They gave her a lot of bullets. Yeah. I really liked it.
Starting point is 00:33:54 It went into slowmoan. It was like that cool. It was like almost like a big action movie scene for a second. We're like, gong, gong. But the music is like, oh, fuck, she's fucked. It's just like this, wow, and her just staring, and like, I'm gonna murder this thing. There is a lot of wow, in this movie for sure. It's either wow or like,
Starting point is 00:34:20 bum, binae, or sad folk guitar. Yeah. like, bum, da, da, da, da, da, or sad folk guitar. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, doo, doo, so yeah, they open its mouth and it's filled with shark teeth. Well, it's got alligator teeth, but set up like rows of shark teeth. Right. And Dr. Ventrus is like, could they have cross-branch. Yeah, you can't do that.
Starting point is 00:34:44 I like that idea a lotter tapeeeeeeea- thease, the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. she's like, yeah, you can't do that. That's like, I like that idea a lot because Dr. Ventris was like, if I fuck a cat, will I have a cat baby? Oh, you psycho? I think it's, Ventris or somebody says the mutations are getting more extreme as we get closer to the lighthouse. Right. I didn't quite understand what the lighthouse was, whether it was truly a lighthouse that had been on this beach and that's where they were headed. Yeah, at the very beginning of the movie, you see a, after her interrogation, you see a, like, meteor or comet or something hit the earth and it lands in the lighthouse. Got it, okay.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Actually half the note, lighthouse. . I've nailed it. I swear I watch this movie. Oh, I don't doubt it. I don't tou. You just don't pay attention to the details, like the plot. Sorry. I've always wanted to take swamp boats.
Starting point is 00:35:34 I feel like taking a boat into the swamp would be cool. I've done it? Have you? Like the big propeller boats. Oh, no, I didn't. Oh, that's how you get eaten. Yeah, you can do that. Yeah. I mean, go on like an alligator tour.
Starting point is 00:35:49 Yeah, and what's like I'd say, like, outside of New Orleans? Nice. Like one of those tourist marshmallows in the water to make the alligators come up? Because I've heard that's a thing that happens. We went during, it was like February, like I saw you there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I fed you buzzballs. Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:12 We fed Katie smoked oysters in like a bottom shelf gut liquor. See you later. I was sitting in like a seminar about something and I was like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th. th. th. th. th. th. I'm th. th. I'm th. I'm th. I saw, I'm like, I'm like, I, I, I, I in like a seminar about something and I was like, oh no. I definitely did oyster shots in New Orleans just because like, I'm in fucking, I'm sorry, Narlans. No. Katie asked you if they threw marshmallows, they threw beads of the alligator so you can see them titties? Yeah, yeah, they roll over on their back. All right. Thank you for that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that they threw beads of the alligator so you can see them titties? Yeah, they roll over on their back. All right, thank you for that bell.
Starting point is 00:36:49 Shoehorning a titty joke. Yeah. So they take these boats and you have a bruise. And she's like, yeah, it's just a bruise. Yeah, sure. But it is, it's a bruise. It's just a bruise. And then they have a long discussion about how fucked up everybody is and why they're fucked up.
Starting point is 00:37:15 Yeah. It's she, she's like, we're all damaged goods. And I thu. That doesn't make us go into the shimmer, you know? No, no. It just makes me drink icy light mangoes. Yeah. It's fine. It's totally fine. Yeah. I mean, I would go into the shimmer.
Starting point is 00:37:30 It seems pretty. It's very pretty. Yeah. We're all going to die some days. So like, why not to see? I want to see them weird hoppy dop their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their tap. tape tape theirs. It's theirs. It's theirs. It's. theirs. It's theirs. It's theirs. thea. to be. to be. to be. to be. to be. to be. to be. to be. to be. tod. tod. tod. tod. tod. tod. tod. tod. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. It's. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. It sudden there was a Miyazaki movie happening. Are those unicorns? Amazing. What's happening? And I thought their antlers were attached to each other and I thought that's not evolution.
Starting point is 00:37:50 And they do synchronize jumping? Yeah, they were like fucking beautiful swimmers. So they find Fort Amaya, which was the original Southern Reach. Okay. And they're just like, we will it in the mess hall. I was like, we will bill it there. That's bill it in the mess hall. And I kind of like this sort of like call of Cthuloo, investigating aspect of this where they find a memory card and they're like, you know. And Natalie Portman says, it's a tumor-like fungus. Did she say that? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I have the note, video camera, period, gore. Yeah, because what's happening on that screen?
Starting point is 00:38:32 Well, that's very event horizon is. Yes, it is. Describe what's happening, Katie? Me? Yeah. Well, her husband cuts into this dude and his hot dogs are on the inside. Yeah, where's they're supposed to be? They're all wiggly. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thooes the the theateateatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheathe thoes thoes thoes thoes thoes thoes tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho too too too tho too too too too too too tooo too the are on the inside. Yeah, where's they're supposed to be? They're all wiggly though. They're all so wiggly. When he puts his hand behind them and like pulls one out and it's just sliding across his hand.
Starting point is 00:38:50 Weird. And the one- I don't care how much you love someone you never put your hand in their hot dogs. Yeah, unless it's to help them. No, even then you let them bleed. I'm them them them them them them them them. I. I. I. I them them them them them them their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th pull the. th pulls the. the. the. the. to pull tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. th. th. sorry Barry. It's the most intimate thing two people can do. Yeah, hold our hot dogs inside their gullets. We'll get through this. We'll take that trip out west we always talked about. The greatest love of all is holding your squirmy intestines. Yeah so his hot dogs are all moving around on the inside. Yeah, and when he's touching them, he's going, he's going, he loves it. Look at this, it's wicked. He looks wild. And the guy is like not reacting that much to being cut open and the way that
Starting point is 00:39:35 one ought to. He seemed kind of willing and involved in it. He then whoever was shooting this video gets this like very arty shot of her husband washing his hands bloody hands in the water and it's like in slo-mo and the blood's drifting away and I was like who edited this? And then they're all fucked up and I have the note and it seems like they all just failed their sanity checks. For sure they did. I mean at this point the paramedic is out of th of like like like like like th of like th of th of th of th of th of th of th of th of th of th of th of th of the th of their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their. their their. their. their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. th. the. the. the. their their their their I have the note. It seems like they all just failed their sanity chicks. For sure they did. I mean at this point the paramedic is out of her fucking mind. Out of her mind. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Oh right, she goes off the deep end first. I mean, she's going off the deep end. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, because she's like. It was. the. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. the. the. th. Well why don't we watch it again? You watch it again. I don't know. And then they find the most beautiful thing I think in this movie which is the mushroom man. The mummified swamukin thing. Where the mushrooms like fungus has exploded up and driven his skull out of the top of his head. You think that's beautiful. It looked amazing. Like trailing up the like, the skull. Think of like like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the. Like, the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. iling up the, like, up, think of like a skull but a snail,
Starting point is 00:40:47 just like sliding up that wall. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and just like, almost like an exploded view of a thing. It was just like leaving parts of the body behind on the wall. It was really cool looking. It was also weird that I don't know if you notice some of the body had been like decomposed down to skull and other parts were still like there was just a full arm in there too.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Soups meaty. Yeah. I have the note with that that just says mega biohazard. Like by this point they're like breathing in whatever is in the air and I'm like they have to... Oh yeah. Totally infected by this point. It's interesting that they'm like they have to oh yeah totally infected by this point it's interesting that they took no precautions whatsoever to protect themselves from anything sure other than guns yeah why they weren't planning on coming back yeah suicide mission I guess so and we learn at this point I think that Natalie Portman thinks her husband chose a suicide mission because
Starting point is 00:41:45 he knew right she starts having flashbacks of him being like slightly distant or a little bit weird I'm leaving a day early yeah I thought we were gonna go to the country hmm I thought you're gonna get dick down by Dan so get that Dan dick yeah don't stand in the way of you in Dan's dick so the dicking the dicking down with Dan happened pre-MIA husband. Oh right he must have been there, you're right. Yeah, didn't touch base on that word Natalie Portman was like, yeah he knows about us. Like, he's like, well fuck it, I'm going to the suicide mission then. Man, that's no way to do it. I also like that when he's had his like I'm going on my suicide mission mission mission mission mission mission mission mission mission mission mission mission, I noticed that because it looked really like nice and curly when they're like reading in the sun and listening to music.
Starting point is 00:42:31 Yeah. Yeah, like what I assume the couples without children do? Looks like a washed up greaser. Yeah, now he looks like cigarettes rolled up in his sleeve. It's really all missing idea. It's just reading books in the sun was delightful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like, the. It's like, like, like, like. It's like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the, the, the Beautiful. But like the also that scene has like one of the saddest lines in the movie where he just looks and goes, are we okay? I'm like, oh you'd over asked that question unless you don't think we're okay. Yeah. And they're not because she's fucking Dan. Yeah. Yeah. We have this flashback of her post-Coitus with Dan and they're fighting. She's telling him basically like I never want to see you again. And she's like, you're married too. And he goes, I love my wife. She's blameless in this. But his whole argument is that her husband made her fucking like, how does that work? I'm your wife
Starting point is 00:43:21 blameless, but it's her husband's fault. You know. Manipulation. Yeah, dance sucks. Dan is not a cool dude. No, not at all. He's a bummer. It's not me, you hate. It's yourself. No, Dan, it's you too.
Starting point is 00:43:37 I laughed at then. I was like, is that a comedy beat? It is for me. So I think at this point, Natalie Portman's looking at her own blood sample in the microscope and she sees that there's like one of those cells shimmering. And her whole lecture at the beginning of the movie had been about cells splitting and it's two, four, six, who do we appreciate? Cells, the cells. Life. We should appreciate it more. Every life is built upon cells dividing. I mean it's true. She's not wrong. Yeah except for single-celled organisms.
Starting point is 00:44:25 And they're like, hey, we were want and done. Pick that John's Hopkins lady. You don't know fuck about shit lady. Um, so Natalie Portman wakes up and yeah, I think she's examining her blood sample or someone's blood sample and sees the splitting and then she goes outside because to relieve Ventris and this is Shepard follows her out and then get snatched by something that unzips the fence yeah spooky shepard is so not scared they're like hiding in the booth and she's
Starting point is 00:45:04 just standing next to it like yeah what what What? What's going on? What are you guys looking at? Come get me, bro. And what gets her? Well they think it's a bear? Well, they think it's a bear. I thought it was a werewoolf. But it isn't because later when you see it it's a bear but also kind of a dinosaur. One of the most upsetting thiii upsetting thi upsetting thi upsetting th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. thi thi thi thi the most upsetting thi thi. they they they they they they they they they're they're thi. they're they're they're they're they're th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. S. S. thi. S. the thi. to to to to to to to to to to they they they thi. thi thi.things I've ever seen in the movie, but we'll get to that. Yeah, I mean, it definitely looked bear, pulled her out. Yeah. I mean, you could sort of see there was like a quick shot where it was very much like, that's a bear. Yeah, for a were a werewolf. Yeah. And it was definitely something that like picked Shepard up off the ground. So it had to be at least like nine or ten feet tall. Yeah, it's giant. Yeah, it was upsetting. It is very upsetting.
Starting point is 00:46:05 So they're like, well, I guess we have to go out and find her. Yeah, and they do. Oh, they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they. they. they. th. they. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their thi. thi. th. their their their their. their. their. that's that's their. that's their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their their their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. th. the the. the. th. the do. Oh, she's all fucked up. She ain't alive no more. And this, when Lena goes to find her, after they find Shepard's foot just laying in the middle of the trail, a boot with a foot still in it. Yeah, yeah, as you do. Sometimes you just get home from work. You're really going to kick your feet. clue. Do a spot hidden check. At this point too I think we've also learned that Dr. Ventris has cancer and was never planning to come back. Right, right. Yeah. And Natalie
Starting point is 00:46:38 Portman says I had guessed and I thought really I didn't like to know. They didn't really allude to that at all. No, how did you know? You should have told us. She's a cell biologist. She knows all but yeah, yeah, yeah, just give it a good look down. She's like your cells are dividing too quickly. Shut up Natalie Portman. So they find a, uh, what's it's a doctor's name got taken by the bear? Shepherd. Shepard. So they find a, what's a doctor's name, got taken by the bear? Sheppard. So they find, yeah, Natalie Portman splits off, finds Dr. Shepard, I just have the note, that lady is really dead.
Starting point is 00:47:16 She's super dead. She does not look good. No. And then they find the flower people. In the little town, yeah. I like them a lot. It's very very very very very very very very very very th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi people. In the little town, yeah. I like them a lot. It's very creepy, being like also very beautiful. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a thing that this movie, like even like the alligator was beautiful looking.
Starting point is 00:47:35 Start very shortcake. Yeah, but also terrifying. The bear not beautiful. The bear was, that was a tough one to figure out. Before we move on away from that bear scene, we totally can't pass up that bear. Wait a minute, I'm sorry. No, you don't have to be sorry. I think my notes are all out of order. So we get, once we get to town, Tessa Thompson does her speech about how the shimmer refracts DNA and
Starting point is 00:48:05 that's why everything's all messed up and why these plants look like people. I didn't quite get that but I guess it's not for me to get. Yeah, I think it's just saying that like everything's going through this prism and just coming out in really weird ways. It's just scrambling. Yes. Okay. So you're getting plants that are trying to shape themselves into people. Cosmic blender, if you will. Alligators with shark teeth. Yeah, Lena wakes up to Ania attacking her and calling her a lying bitch. Yeah, she, like in every situation where people are trapped in something and they don't know what's going on, someone always has to turn agro. Sure. You just have You have to have one wildcard that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the wild card. to have to have to have the wild card. to have the wild card that's that's to have the wild card that's that's that's that's the wild that's that's to have to have to to have the wild th. the the to have to to to to to to their to their their their their to their to their their to to their their their. Someone. Someone. Someone. Someone. Someone. Someone. Someone. Someone. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the their. the ta. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. the. thea. thea. thea. the the the that's like unstable to push the plot in a direction. And then it's like did Dr. Ventris vet her and know that she was unstable? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:52 Or is Dr. Ventris just so far gone that she didn't even bother paying attention? I don't know. She's just very detailed oriented. That's true. It manipulative. Mm-hmm. So she then, Natalie Portman wakes up, gagged and tied to a chair with Dr. Ventris on one side of her and Tessa Thompson on the other side of her. Yeah. And Ania yelling at her. Acting crazy. Yeah. And really good.
Starting point is 00:49:21 It was really good and creepy. Talking about her skin moving and her fingerprints and... Yeah. She started talking about her hot dogs on the inside and... When she says the thing about looking at her fingerprints and seeing them sliding, I was like, you're on mushrooms. This is absolutely tripping. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:38 Exactly. Yeah. Maybe that's what mushrooms are, man. Just a little, little dose of the shimmer.. I I I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, and she's, and she's, thi, and she's, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. And, thi. And, thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi, thi. And, man, just a little, little dose of the shimmer. I wouldn't know I've never eaten mushrooms. No. No, God no. I really haven't. I want to at some point.
Starting point is 00:49:50 While they're tied to the chair, we hear something screaming outside of the house. Yeah. In kind of an animal voice, kind of a maybe person's voice. Yeah. And then it comes into the house? And if you like help me. Anja, Anja runs outside thinking it's Dr. Shepard. Yes. And we hear her freaking out, outside. And a bear growling. And a bear growling.
Starting point is 00:50:17 This movie does a thing really, oh, I'm sorry, I mean to cut you all, go ahead. I was going to say that's where I have the note bear attack to electric boogal. I'm glad I waited for that. This movie does a thing that I really like, which is where someone will be screaming and then it'll just abruptly stop and you're like, oh that's not good. And then it comes clomping into the house and you see it open its mouth to roar and her voice comes out of it. Yes. And it's the grossest makes me want to throw up. Because the thing also has a skull with no flesh on the top half of it. And it's like an elongated, pointy snout, like a dinosaur. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:56 Terrifying. It's so scary. One of the scariest things I've seen in a movie. Ever. Yeah, I totally agree. And it's standing between them screaming in their friend's voice right next to their ears as they're doing the like Jurassic Park, it's a Tyrannosaurus Rex, don't move, don't look at it? I mean it seemed like it had no snout, couldn't smell anything. And no eyes. But it has a people tongue. So when it turns his head to the side to the the the to the the the the to the the the the the the the the the the the tooome. tooome. tooome. tooome. tooome. tooome. too too too too tooom. tooen. tooen. tooom. tooom. tooom. tooom. tooom. tooom. too too too too their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their the. the. the. the. the. the. toome. toome. tea. tea. tea. toomorrow, toomorrow, toomorrow, toomorrow, toomorrow, toomorrow, toome. toea. tongue, that's the tongue of a person. So when it turns his head to the side and it has a human skull stuck to the side of its skull? I didn't even notice that.
Starting point is 00:51:30 Yeah, like under where it's eye socket there's a human skull. And it's like, so it's absorbed Shepard or some element of her when they're the DNA and it might be just forming into something else. Yes, exactly. Oh, nightmare. It's like, if you have any like, existential dread about losing your sense of self, this movie just like feeds right into that of just like, oh, like, am I who I think I am, that whole sort of thing? I'm not me. I'm me. Hello, me, it's me again.
Starting point is 00:52:05 So it attacks, Anya comes running back into the house and start shooting it again. And it attacks her, and then it attacks Lena and Josie kills the bear. It has a lot of hit points though. She shoots it a lot of times. I mean, she's turning it into ground meat. Yeah. Yeah. And then as it dies it says help me. One last time which is distressing. It's very good and very scene is very upset. Yeah. And J. J. J. L. is like I'm out. Go into the lighthouse. Going to the lighthouse. Like that's where you were all going, right?
Starting point is 00:52:45 Yep, see you guys later. And then Lena and Josie have this real, like, heart to heart talk. This is just like, it's, Josie is telegraphing what she's about to do. And Emily Porman can't chase her down. She does a bad job. Or does she just immediately get absorbed but she goes she's really like willing to go into the shimmer? I mean there's that scene she's walking away quickly and you can already see branches
Starting point is 00:53:15 growing out of her arms. Yeah where she has she has cut herself and through her scar tissue on her arms leaves are coming out of it. I didn't even notice. Yeah. I didn't even connect that that she, that's what they said about her priors. Yes, they said issues with, like cutting. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I didn't even catch that. But honestly, I have to note like, Josie chose the best way to pass on just like human garden just like recycle
Starting point is 00:53:45 Right back into nature. No you fight that alien. No you don't you lie down and die you're right I don't want to be the skull stuck of the side of the bear skull. I will be a zinia Why not a bunch of azaleas or lavender, you know, yeah? Yeah, then the lighthouse card comes up. Right. And leave a Lena is alone and sobbing. You know, finally she's crying. Yeah. Yeah. Well, is this where she's doing that like real military general portrait pose out on the beach? That's right after. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. She's crying and then she's on the beach. Just standing there like she's a goddamn... MacArthur? Yes. Eisenhower, uh, other generals. Colin Powell. What? What's that dude up here? Colin Powell? Oh yeah. I. Let me go by Colin. Because Colin? Because Colin? Because Colin, it's his name. A poop tube. It's a poop hole. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:46 It's a hot dog on the inside. Yeah. It's spelled Colin. It's Colin. Sir? Okay. I think he only has one L. Yeah, that's how you spell Colin. Colin. Oh boy. So she reaches the lighthouse and she, well she has to go through like this like... The Crystal Trees. Yeah, Crystal Trees and Crystal Grys. Very cool. Yeah, and very like black-like poster in a dorm room. Right up my alley.
Starting point is 00:55:21 Yeah, it should be like a velvet painting, huh? And we will pass through the crystal trees. And the lighthouse is giving off like this ethereal light where the light should have been. And then she says, do you like me lobster? She does. And then there's a weird mermaid lady. And then I lose my goddamn mind. Everyone's busted nuts everywhere.
Starting point is 00:55:48 Everywhere. Everywhere. Jesus. So one thing that's different, and spoilers for the book, something that's different from the book and this movie is like, this movie shows you like four grave markers when she's walking up to the lighthouse and then it pans back and there's walking up to the lighthouse and then it pans back and
Starting point is 00:56:05 there's like a ton of skulls and skeletons behind the grave markers, which is supposed to insinuate that there's been a ton of these missions. And in the movie, or in the book, the way they find out that there's been a bunch of missions as they go into the lighthouse and there's these notebooks that they've all had to keep, and there's hundreds and hundreds of these notebooks in the lighthouse. Just insinuating that like they've been lying about how many missions have come in here and all this stuff. It's a really good mechanic of just being like, oh fuck, this is a lot bigger than we thought it was, a lot creepier. And they just keep trying the same thing thin thin thin the same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same same thing the same thing thing the same thing thing the same same same same thing the same same same same same same same thing the same thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just send four people in. I mean, that's insanity. That is insanity. Trying the same thing over and over, expecting different results.
Starting point is 00:56:51 Yeah. So she goes in the lighthouse and finds a burnt corpse in the lotus position. Like a sunspray of burn behind them? Like a radiation. Yeah. Good thing there's a video camera. And a video camera. What do you think is going to be on the video? What could be on there?
Starting point is 00:57:07 Probably nothing relevant to know. I just have the note, don't watch that video. No, don't press play. And then the next note I have is, ah, fuck, she thought I knew who I was, and I don't think I'm even me anymore, are you me? And a voice behind the camera, which is his voice, is like, I don't know, maybe.
Starting point is 00:57:36 You tell me? Something about like, when, if you get out of here, find Lena. Right. So did he not know if he was the, himself or the alien? Is that what? Yes, he has lost all sense of what is real and who he is. Weird. Yeah, yeah, which is an upsetting thing.
Starting point is 00:57:58 Ego death. Right, exactly. I thought you said, you go death. You go death. Yeah, you go death. Ego death. No, I immediately put it together. There was a split second. Hey, no, go. Big Jim's in the run.
Starting point is 00:58:18 So he says, have you ever seen with a phosphorus grenade can do? Yeah. And he's saying this to himself. But it's, and the person behind the camera doesn't really, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the, you, like, like, like, the, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, the, the the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to go, to go, th. to, to, to, to, to, to, to, and he's saying this to himself. Yeah. But it's, and the person behind the camera doesn't really, like, say one way or the other whether they have seen this before. Right, right. And so he blows himself up. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:36 He's all gone to. In a weird, metallic fire. Sure. Yeah. Very bizarre. As phosphorus would look for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Don't know enough about chemicals. Okay. Okay. Okay. Well then. You're fired too. Sorry. Just me. So the next note I have is don't go down that hole. You got to go down the hole. And then the following note is. Oh, fuck. She went down that hole. Pary. What's in the hole? Oh. What's in the hole? Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh, the. Yeah. Oh, the. Oh, the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. the. Yeah. the. the. Yeah. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. Yeah. the. Yeah. the. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. Yeah. the. the. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. down the hole. And then the following note is, oh fuck, she went down that hole. Perry, what's in the hole? Ventris with no eyes? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:15 Is that, it's kind of dark, that's what I was making out. Just like her mutating, like. But then when she turned to the Ali Portman, she does have eyes. Yeah. And if you remember later later that, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, th. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. to, to, to. P. P. P. to. P. to. P. P. P. P. Perry, to. P. Perry, to. P. Perry, what, what, what, what, what's, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what then when she turns to Natalie Portman she does have eyes. Yeah. And if you remember later on in the film when that thing is becoming Natalie Portman, the last thing to come in is the eyes. Oh. So this was Ventris trans... Like it gets very uh invasion of the body snatchers here. So Ventris wasn't actually Ventris. Or I mean what is you? You know what I mean? I mean at this point that... Oh damn it! This is why you can't smoke weed. Well I mean I didn't even think of that, like
Starting point is 00:59:57 that thing could have processed into Ventris. Exactly. And then saw Natalie Portman was like, I need to take up this DNA asris. Exactly. And then saw Natalie Portman was like, I need to take up this DNA as well. I imagine that's what this entity is doing is like collecting DNA. Yeah, because she says something like it that it's inside her and it's there because she needed to see the lighthouse. But does the thing that... The other thing have your consciousness? Yes. ish because they remember things. Okay. Like when Isaac, Oscar Isaac early in the movie sees her, he remembers her.
Starting point is 01:00:35 Does he or does he just look at those photos downstairs and say, oh that must be my wife. Right, right. He knew how to get home, somehow. Oh no, he just shows up at home. But how to get that? That's what I mean. Like, he knew the address, like. Not necessarily. You don't think he GPS. Something could have put him there. Yeah. Right, because they spent all that time and didn't know where they were. Right. Anything could have been happening? Or maybe they just binge ate those rations. Or maybe the... One night a heavy drink.
Starting point is 01:01:07 Oh no, all the ravioli's gone. Who made all the pizza rolls? We have to eat them all tonight. There's just like MREs of like protein bars. Oh, your poops are going to be real weird. Never gonna shit again. So have the note Ventrurous barfing rainbows? Yes, she's screaming fire.
Starting point is 01:01:30 Like, oh, this is a joke I wrote about another Pittsburgh restaurant. Like, she just got takeout from Big Shot Bob's House of Wing. The thing that I love about this movie is even the most upsetting things are done visually so beautiful because like yeah I mean she looks like she's ascending sort of like sort of just turning in the light yeah you know trapper keepers and Lisa Frank you know folders and then the light starts becoming dividing cells. And then there's like what I only describe as a crazy drug ball. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:13 Or blight. Yeah. I described it as science and action. It's true. Or like the old iTunes screensavers. I just have the note, let's trip out. And while she's staring into the butthole of acid, it sucks of blood drop out of her face.
Starting point is 01:02:37 Yeah, and she doesn't even notice. It looked like there was a little cut on her. Oh, okay. She had like a fresh cut under her eye. And it's like, mmm, no, I'm gonna get a little taste. A little wine sample. Switch it around, does not spit it out, because what it has to do instead is become a silver embodiment of her? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:02:57 I just have the note C3 B-o. That's a Star Wars. That's that's the the the the th-that's th-that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the th-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-s-s. th-s. th-m! Oh-m! Oh-m! Oh-m! Oh-m! Oh-m! Oh-n. Yeah-s. Yeah-s. th-s. Yeah-s. th-s. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's the big one, the tall robot. The gold the gold one, yeah. Yeah, I know. Played by Anthony Daniels. I don't know what that means. In every movie, yeah. At this point the soundtracks and starts getting very jarring. Yeah. Sure. It was reminded me of the score from Mandy where we was just like blah. Yeah. Just like earth shaking noise. Yes. Yeah. On unsettling like train horn. Yeah. Because her world is shattering at this point. Like she shoots the silver thing and the bullets just go through it and make these beautiful arcs around it. Yeah. It looks very cool. And every time she moves, it's moving just like her. Just like that. When I move, you move, just like that.
Starting point is 01:03:52 Yeah, let's listen to that song when we go to Big Jim's in the Run. All right. Better have it on the Jute box. They definitely do. I know they don't, it's Greenfield. I do have a note that says that her mirror self has a bigger dumper than she does. I had a very like vapid moment looking at looking at the scene and being like I would absolutely just be like, is that what I look like from behind? I like you've never seen yourself from that angle. That's what my back looks like. Yes.
Starting point is 01:04:25 So it's like beating her up and then there's a very like... Getting laid out by yourself is a real ass kicking I feel. Yeah. I mean, we've all tripped and fell. No. That's God doing it, not myself. Don't make mistakes, Perry. But then there's this like very, it feels very sexual assaulty when it's got her pinned
Starting point is 01:04:48 against the door and she's like trying to push up against it and their faces are smushing together. It's weird. It was unsettling. It was really gross. But I also wrote maybe she just wants to be loved in a Lenny from Mice and Mankind a way. So I was trying to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to So I was trying to turn it around. I always look at it on the bright side.
Starting point is 01:05:07 Like maybe she's practicing empathy. Oh God, I really got into my cups about this. I was just like, maybe just make friends, teach it to love, learn to salsa dance. Oh man, you could mix, you in this silver thing get a fucking TikTok account? You're gonna rule the world. I would assume. One million followers. So she hands it a phosphorus grenade and...
Starting point is 01:05:36 She does right as it's starting to form skin. Yeah, and it turns into her. Eyes it's yeah it's her and yeah it's her yeah she hands it a phosphorus grenade and then backs away and then stops being her and it's like I guess I'll go back to being silver me again I don't know if that was because it got further from her like that it was like maybe recognize it somehow or something or a phosphorus grenade blew off in its hand yeah or that yeah but it's like so it's like it's like it's its its its its its its its its its th. it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that that that that that th. Yeah. that that that that it's like that it's like that it's like that it's like that it's like that it's like that it's like that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. that. Yeah. But it's like so it's like its arms are burning that really hot like metallic silver flame and it goes over and touches Oscar Isaac. Yeah. And I was like so some of her has transferred into this and it feels a connection to that body
Starting point is 01:06:24 that's there. Oh, I guess I thought it was like sucking up his essence to like make them become one again. Yeah. Which you're kind of like, well you must have had a dysfunctional relationship if she was fucking Dan, but okay. Oh, sometimes you just fuck Dan, right? Am I right everybody? Sometimes you just gotta fuck a Dan.
Starting point is 01:06:45 Not a Dan. That Dan. That Dan. That Dan, Dick. So she runs away. And the silver thing has like sparkler hands. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:59 And yeah, the look, it walks up to like that white fungus on the wall and touches it then that starts burning and then it's the whole wall do you think it's thought whoops when it oh whoops I was trying to I was wondering if that was like what was it what was it what was it trying to do hmmm was it did it it mean just looking for the human touch you know what I mean I guess I just just want want want to just just want to to to just just just want to to to to to to to to to to to the to the the the the to just just just just to the to to the the to the to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th the the the the the try try try try try try try try try tho tho tho the the the the the the the did it mean to burn down the summer? Just looking for the human touch, you know what I mean? I guess, just wants to love. Or is it actually Natalie Portman devolving into the silver thing? Oh. Right, the end would sort of indicate that, huh? Yeah, and that's why there was a connection to Cain.
Starting point is 01:07:44 Yeah. Walking up and connection to cane. Yeah. Walking up and touching cane and yeah. I mean, maybe that's all that thing does is just transfer DNA to one thing, turn into something, move on to the next. So when everything burns, like the crystal trees burn and the shimmer goes away, and then she goes back and she's hugging her husband and they're both like looking over each other's shoulder like, I'm dead inside. But they have the shimmer in their eyes, which is something I often say about you.
Starting point is 01:08:15 You said that shimmer in her eyes. Nice, Alan. Both of you. He's trying eyes shimmering. Yeah. Hug your husband alien clone or whatever. Okay. Whatever you got to do. One of my last notes I, as you know, I use talk to text and it just says success is an extra trash can and then below I must have said, I said sucks that she has to sit next to a trash can and then below I must have said I said sucks that she has to sit next to a trash can but I kind of like that better
Starting point is 01:08:48 so if we can get a success as an extra trash cam t-shirt I'd really bring it Justin! So you know you've made it to that one that one gets full I've got that one I've got that one to fill it. Then I'll have a backup won't I that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that I that that that that that I that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that I that that that that that that I that I that I that I that I'll that I'll that I'll that I'll that I'll that I'll that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I'll that I that I'll that I'll that I'll that I'll have that I'll have that I'll have that I'll have that I'll have that I'll have that I'll have that I'll have that I'll that I'll that I'll that I'll that I'll that I'll that I'll case. What if that one gets full? I've got that one to fill. Then I'll have a backup, won't I? Katie, Perry. What? Perry, Katie! Let's go to the ratings, guys.
Starting point is 01:09:16 Perry comes to go first? Perry does. Perry? I'll go first. Yeah, what did you think of this movie? There was a a I liked about it. Ventris could have been utilized better. She seemed like she was on downers the whole movie. I mean, visually, beautiful, there were parts in it. I was legit, freaked out by the idea of your cells being ripped apart while you're still alive and changing into something else is terrifying.
Starting point is 01:09:46 You don't like that? No. No. No. Okay. So I mean, it's, there, it was a good horror movie. It was a good movie. It was a good movie.
Starting point is 01:09:56 No, I think it was a very good vehicle delivering fear. So I think it was a good horror movie. There are parts that legit make me uncomfortable. There's parts where it makes me hate characters and like, yeah. The human condition and stuff like that. So I'm like rambling. It's all right. It's a 420 episode baby. Um. And like have you ever really looked at a cat? I love a cat. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:29 Perry, give me a score, one out of ten. Sorry, one out of ten. Solid movie, I'm going to give it like a seven. Nice. Yeah. Perry said it all. I'll give it also a seven. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:42 I'm going to go seven as well. Okay. I feel like. I feel like there is like these really beautiful gross things that happen in this movie, but like overall I don't feel like it fully works as a film. Really? Is that because you read the book you think and you felt the book was better of like flesh out? Yeah, but even so like I feel like this movie feels like a movie that had too many studio notes on some level. Like it doesn't feel like it fully clicks for me as a film. It does feel a bit like a lot of hands in the pot and a lot of ideas being tinkered with. Yeah, yeah. I think that like that's slow-mo shot of her shooting just feels like it's in a completely different movie and just like stuff like that. So yeah. So do better th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. that. Yeah. that. that. Yeah. that. Yeah. that. that. Yeah. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's. that's that's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. I. I. Yeah. Yeah. that's. that's like. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So, that's like. So. that's s. So. that's that's s. S. So. So. So. So. So. So, that's. So, completely different movie and just like stuff like that. So, yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:25 So, uh, do better next time, maybe. Damn. Damn, I thought you gave it a seven. But it's like, come for the fucking terrifying bear with a human skull stuck on the side of his face. It's so good. We're a big, old pink alligator. Yeah, you'll like it. Or the deer with branch antlers. You'll like it. There's a lot of beauty in the movie, which is juxtaposed next to terrifying shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:51 Yeah. So come for the, come for the cool looking stuff. Stay for the terrifying stuff. I feel like this movie could be on at a very loud party and there just be like one dude sitting there watching it being like, oh man. That's an existential crisis. Yeah. Uh, Perry, thank you so much for doing this. I'm happy to be here and I'm happy to take your job. Perry was a-
Starting point is 01:12:18 Speaking of your jobs, yeah. Perry is an amazing artist who sells all sorts wonderful art. Where can people find your art? On Instagram at Smoking, J. Starting point is 01:13:30 Not enough if you listen to spider baby. I don't remember that. Is that the black and white one? Yeah. Who's the woman that I like it that's in then? from, um, Black Christmas? No. No, she was from, um, House on Haunted Hill. Fuck, what is her name? I don't remember. No, 420, baby. It's got Lanchinie Jr. in it. It sure does. Yeah, we'll put something up. We'll do something. Yeah, something will happen. And then we'll be back the following week with, uh, I suggested doing Megan.
