Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 47- Don't Look Now (1973)

Episode Date: September 14, 2015

This episode could best be described as 1) how we earned our explicit rating on iTunes or 2) a "very long day" episode in which we go a little bit off-topic in describing the 1973 British-Italian psyc...hological thriller "Don't Look Now" (and also make quite a few sound effects.) Special topics include: the magnetism of Sutherland, a takedown of the film "Antichrist" (again), Father Bartelucci, good old fashioned suspicion of everyone and everything, the oh-so-famous sex scene and quite possibly the best description of Channing Tatum ever uttered aloud. You're gonna love it. Have you seen "Don't Look Now"? Love it? Hate it? Also, tell us how you feel about Sutherland. Thank you Missy for suggesting this movie! Everyone, keep giving us your suggestions--we love to hear them. Yeah. Thanks, Missy. Thanks, Missy. Also, I've been doing this thing for the last five minutes where I stick my tongue-up I don't do it. And now I can hear in his headmones. And then we argued about whether or not I could eat a spoonful of cinnamon, which apparently I can't. And that's what happened behind the scenes, where we're all, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, where, I, where, I, where, I, I, where, I, I, where, where, I, I, I, where, I, I, where, I, I, where, I, where, I, I, where, and, where, where, and, where, where, what are we here to talk about this week? We are here to talk about the 1973 Donald Sutherland, Julie Christie, psychological thriller?
Starting point is 00:00:49 The head fuck? Head fuck. Don't look now. At what? That, this was my question? What do you think the title was referring to? We will be doing spoilers. You should watch this film. It's on the Amazon's. I don't know why you'd be listening thiiiiiiii thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to be to be thi. thi. thi. their their their their their their their their to to to to to to to to to to be to be their their thozy. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to be thi. to be thi. to be to be to be to be thi. to be thi. thi. thi. the. toooooooooo. too. the. the. toooooooooooooooo. too. the. the.the Amazon's. I don't know why you'd be listening to this episode if you hadn't seen this film, by the way. I don't think don't look now, maybe this thing we're going to reveal a puzzle or something. But it's on Amazon for a couple books. I think it's the whoever's running around in the red coat, let's say that. This movie to me felt like an Italian, what are those? What are those? This? This th th th th th th th th the movie th th th th th th th the movie th th th th th th th th th th th they th th th th th they th they they th they they they they thi, thi, maybe thi, maybe they thi, maybe thi, maybe they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're maybe. This movie. This movie. This movie. This movie. This movie. This movie. This movie. This movie. This movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie, th. This movie, th. This movie movie movie, th. This movie movie, th. This movie, yellow. You say it. I got it. Gialo. But it reminded me a lot of a Gialo film.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Niallo. Not just rolled over in her bed where she's probably watching a DVD of friends. Jalo. There's no Johnny Depp one friends. No, but she really loves friends also. I think she likes that big guy. Not David Swimmer, you the other guy. You know, the Italian-looking guy.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Joey? Yeah, she likes him. That's the name, I know, Courtney's Cox. Oh, Jennifer Slaminson of the lepicon. Edward Cidderhands was on the other night while we were gaming. And it was just like on in the other room and me and one of the guys were just like, you know I'm kind of tearing up right now just hearing the music. It's so good. Oh yeah, I haven't watched that in a couple years, but I should really, and cry. So this movie is total, like, it's total, not total, it just had a like a very Italian cop thriller, a yellow film. Half the fucking dialogue is in Italian. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Well, it's a British Italian co-production, too. Yes. It's not subtitled in Italian. No. No. You don't need that. I mean, you can sort of tell what they're saying. But in the scene where he's talking to the police guy
Starting point is 00:02:35 about the two women, is just like the suspicious nature of everyone in this movie. That's Italians for you. They're beautiful people. Oh, it reminded me of like, the, like, of like, argento films and like, and like, and even the name, like, don't look now, like, theyn't, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the.... the. the. the.. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. in it. So it's just like the names are just like kind of like... That's good advice though. It's true. It's like why would you? You ever seen a baby duck? I had a baby duck in science class when I was a little older baby dog. This is in a long day. Do we want to try and synopsize this film? So you know from the description that that their child is going to die in an accident and it opens with a child a little girl and like a red rain slicker running around the grounds of a very British home and there's
Starting point is 00:03:33 like a horse running around also and I was like oh my god she's gonna be trampled by the horse and all of my like fears will be justified the horse never shows up again but also keep a horse away from your kid. Don't look nay? Don't, I'm done. No, she ends up drowning. Does she just fall in? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:54 What? That I found very confusing for some reason. Yeah, well it happens completely off screen. Yeah, we just find, like Donald Sutherland finds, he's, you see him sort of flash of, of well call it What it is he has a flash of second sight he has like some sort of premonition that something's happening Yeah outside of the house and as he runs out his son is a? the thrown is a beautiful man in this movie. Yeah, and then he's sobbing is absurd and picks up his daughter
Starting point is 00:04:18 And then screams for 35 minutes? Donald Sutherland is a beautiful man in this movie. His sobbing is absurd. It's just, oh, oh, oh. I mean, I don't know what would happen in my mind and mouth if I lost my child. But it is, oh, oh, oh. Also, you don't think he's hunky? No, my stease, no. Oh, wood, wood.
Starting point is 00:04:45 He's kind of got like an HP Lovecraft face. Yeah. Oh, Howard Phillips. So hunky in this. Oh, that's neat. Yeah. I mean, I'm like, he's not a traditional sexy dude. So I think it's awesome that, like, you think he's hot. Yeah, I think a lot of women might fall into my camp on this one. I would think so. He's charming is all. Ladies, let us know. Donald Sutherland. Hot or not
Starting point is 00:05:08 dot com. And dudes too, let us know. I don't know why I said ladies. That was shitty of me. Everyone can fuck Donald's Hutherland. It's like, it's fine. Children would be that unsupervised in 2015. Oh God, don't thoh oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, th, th, tho, th, th, th, th, th, th, thin, thin, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, th. Ladies, th. Ladies, th. Ladies, no. You know what I mean? That's be, yeah. Helicopter parenting. Yeah, so he runs into the water, starts, no. That's perfect. They slow it down, but it's, I mean, you get that he is upset. Yeah, oh, he is upset. And then like, his wife like walks by the window and looks outside and just kind of like yells shit and puts her hand in her mouth like like, yeah. She's adorable, Julie Christie. Their chemistry is so amazing.
Starting point is 00:05:51 They're so good. They're so good too. Yeah, they have more chemistry than as a non-actually married couple than I felt that uh, the people in um. Oh D. Wallace and Christopher Stone did. Yeah they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. they're th. they're they're they're they're they were good too. Yeah, no, but they're, this is like, oh, this is a legit loving couple. Yeah. Even their very explicit sex scene, I felt was like tender, you know? It was really beautiful. Are you crying? It was a really beautiful scene. Okay, cool.
Starting point is 00:06:18 So, is that, that sex scene is our first, uh, it's our first downtown? Well, it's definitely our first kindlingus scene. Yes, I think there's not many. Yeah, there should be more. Just like half of every movie, right? Right, ladies? Yeah. Back in, yeah. So, the movie picks up again at some point in the future, indeterminate amount of time later, but you feel that it's, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, is thi, is thi, is thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, there's thi, thi, thi, time later, but you feel that it's probably recent. Right. Although she has gotten a new haircut.
Starting point is 00:06:45 She's very cute. Yeah. Very cute. I just like want her look in this movie. Yeah. I want to wear those skirts. I want those sweaters. I got to get my hair to do that somehow. You could do it. I could. It's a lot of work. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's a. It's a to. It's a lot. It's a lot. It's. It's. It's a lot. It's a. It's a lot. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. I. It's. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. I th. th. th. th. th. th.down, you could nail the church. We're working on our horror icons.
Starting point is 00:07:07 So they are in Italy in Venice because Donald Southern One's character is a restoration guy, basically. He does church restorations evidently. So they're working with the bishop? Yeah. Father somebody or other? Father Bartolucci probably. Why?
Starting point is 00:07:26 That was just ethnicist. Father Guiallo. Can we talk about, well let's just get into this right now, because this is a good place. Doesn't it seem like everybody in the clergy is up to fucking something? Yeah, I assume he's a bad guy. It feels like they're up to something? It feels like they're they're up the cops are up to something? Yeah. I think it's
Starting point is 00:07:46 just that weird, slimy Italian nature and I say that as a person of Italian-American heritage like I don't, I just think that there's something very suspicious about Italian people. They are suspicious of everyone. When I was in Rome. When I was in Rome. When Ied. I would be walking around, I would be walking around Rome, and I was getting fucking hard looks from every dude, and I was like, what the fuck is the shit? And then I'd get closer to the guy go, a good morning. And I'm just like, oh, good morning.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Well, to side eyes in Italy. Yeah, but it's just like, that's just a cultural cultural, that's just a cultural, that's just a cultural, that's just a cultural, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, the their thuicicuicuicuic, thu thuicuicu, thu thu thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu fu. thu fu. thu fu. thu fu. thu fu. thu fu, thu fu, thu fu, their, the the the the the the the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. thu, the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. the f. thu. the f. the the the the f. the film, like, they come off as being creepoids. Yeah. Yeah, it feels like everyone's up to something behind like these two, like sort of good-natured people who are in Venice. And they expect everyone else to be up to something too, it seems. So they are in a restaurant, the Baxter's, John and Laura Baxter. They're in a restaurant in Venice, andthey sort of run into these two older women, a pair of sisters, one of whom is blind.
Starting point is 00:08:49 The non-blind woman gets something in her eye? And they basically like fall down and roll around and try to like get something out of her eye. And Laura's like, well I better go help them. So she goes into the bathroom with them. Totally nice. So nice, but also don't put your fingers in a stranger's eye. Also, they just abandon their son. He is probably like the saddest character in this movie.
Starting point is 00:09:13 His sister dies and his parents are like, going to boarding school, we're going to Italy, bye. I feel very sorry for their son. So they're whatever it is out of her eye. And then the blind lady tells Laura that she sees her daughter and she's happy. The daughter who's dead? Yes. Because she has, she's got the sight, she's got the shine or whatever the fuck it is. She says she's there in the restaurant with them, between them. You don't say that to somebody? No. Also there. How very awkward for her. Like from a closet. Yeah, how very, very awkward for her. So you reminded me of the housemaids from Susperea
Starting point is 00:09:48 that were always just staring around a corner everybody. So she's very unnerved by this news as you would be, and she's out on the table and crushes everything, blah blah, breaks the table. So they take her to the children's children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children children the children children children children's the to the children's hospital. Where they are just letting sick children get so riled up. Sick kids are bouncing off the fucking walls in this place. Seemingly for her entertainment. Yeah, she's just watching them.
Starting point is 00:10:11 They're in a glass enclosure. And she's like, oh, it's so crazy. Which was also a really sweet scene because they both just seem to really enjoy watching the children and like. They make every effort to show to show to show to show to show to show to show to show you that she is a wonderful person. Yeah. Yeah. Also I have the note, all in caps, striking distance. I think it was because there was a police boat on the water in Venice. I'm not entirely sure what I meant by that. Do you want to tell people what striking distance is because nobody has seen that movie? Really? People don't know It's a movie filmed in Pittsburgh with Bruce Willis and Frazier Crane's dad and Sarah
Starting point is 00:10:50 Jessica Parker, right? Oh, I don't know. Yeah, I think it's Sarah Jessica Parker about River Patrol here in Pittsburgh. They're trying to find the Polish Strangler. Uh, I don't think'll do it on this podcast. Yeah, it's not a horror movie It's a Bruce Wilson movie. Laura is really into this idea that these women have seen her daughter and have talked to her or can talk to her She wholeheartedly believes it right there's yeah hook line and sinker she's ready for this and of course. the hook line? Yeah, there. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. any point did you think that the women were frauds? No. Me either. No. I wonder if we were supposed to, I guess not. I don't think so. Not with the suspicion being heaped. Well maybe, but there's so much suspicion was being heaped on the clergy and the police. That's true. That's true. Our usual enemies. Although, to be fair, the elderly have the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I were th. I were th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. to. toe. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. th. th. trust no one. And there's that one scene where the two of them
Starting point is 00:11:45 are just laughing at nothing, and it sounds so sinister into old ladies. Like, old people laughing is just a sinister sound. It's not like the joy of hearing a child laugh. It's that nightmarish theater laughter that doesn't sound like laughter, it sounds like a seance with these ladies. Which they are not like real psyched about doing. They don't like the mumbo jumbo. Yeah, like staying outside of it and just seeing little girls at tables and telling people about it.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Creeps. And this goes well, the seance goes really well. And so Heather tells Laura that that John is in trouble and to get John out of Venice. That the daughter is telling her this, the dead daughter. Now I want to get to the end of this movie because, oh, anyway. We'll get there, we'll get there. So Laura returns to John and tells him this information. Is this also when they tell her that he also has the second site? Because they're trying to get her to come, their, their, to get him, to get him, to get him, to get him, to get him, to get him, to get him, to come, to get him, to come, to, and, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, their, we, to, to, to, to, to, to, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, their... their. their. their, their, to. to. to. too, too, too, to get. too, too, too, they. their, we'll. their, we'll. their with that. But you go do it and like, he supports her and going off and doing what interests her. Yeah. And forward thinking. After this, they get a phone call that there's been an accident at the boarding school with her son and Laura has to go back to Angland to take care of the situation.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Right. She gets on a plane the next morning. Yeah, and there's like no description of their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their accident their their accident their accident their accident their accident their their accident. happening. Like what's happened to the sun? Like, you know, he's... He had an accident. And they like quick show him in a bed with like a wound on his forehead. And there's also the backdrop that the hotel that they're staying at is closing for the season. It's like the end of the tourist season. Where were they gonna go? They were gonna stay with the bishop. Alberto? I think it seems Alberto. Okay, I don't know. Father Bartolucci, I don't know. Father Bartolucci, I don't know. Who is that? Is that a thing? It's a thing that my cousin Joe made up whenever his parents would ask if he was like going to
Starting point is 00:13:35 church when he lived on his own. He was like,. Was it believed by the family? Oh God, no, no, no. Father Bartolucci is now like a beloved false figure in our family. So they think that this is whatever the warning was, that the son, who is also named John, Oh right, old Johnny. It's injured. Big Johnny stays behind. Hunky, hunky, hunky, down on the southern. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. if we really tackle that. We can. We can talk about it.
Starting point is 00:14:06 He was really gratuitous. It's very gratuitous. I don't know if it's gratuitous. It's explicit. OK, there we go. But I also didn't find it to be like, sometimes sex scenes make me uncomfortable, because I'm a little bit prudish. tender like very loving. Although there's one scene where he has his arm like up over her head? No one does that. Like what are you I did not understand that?
Starting point is 00:14:29 I feel like that wasn't they were like why don't we try this and they're like I guess it's fine. I saw this in the commissura like you're just trying to hit the angle of the dangle and it was just too weird. There's also like a the like a like a like a like a like a like a like a like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I'm a foot like a foot. I'm a foot. I th. th. I'm like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot like a foot. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. th. th. th. I. I. th. th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I t. I t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. th. I th. I tthat very gross. What if she was licking her own foot in the sex scene? But yeah, a quick, I was reading about the movie and apparently Julie Christie was dating Warren Beatty at the time. And he asked to be able to re-cut the sex scene because he was like, it's too much, I don't want to see this. Apparently he claimed that you could see, or someone claimed that you could see Donald Sutherland's wiener going into her. That's not true. It's not true. Donald Sutherland has been like, no, we were not having sex. We're absolutely not having sex.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Not actually a porno. Although there's a scene where he's brushing his teeth, nude, and I paused and rewounded to see his weiner, you can't. I can't wait to the website. Either or by, I'll be. Really? I do have the note in all caps, Donald's other one, but. That's all.
Starting point is 00:15:31 That's all. He's just such a like average dude, you know? Very tall, I guess. about him where you want to watch what he's doing like. Yeah. Wow. Southern living Chris Serrated. This is so great. Hi, I'm your mother. And Sam Elliot.
Starting point is 00:15:52 People are like, oh, Channing Tatum. And I'm like, who's that? Have you seen Sam Elliot's dog? Like, I don't understand any, I don't understand you, the new people. Channing Tatum looks like a fist with abs. Here's the thing I didn't know was that Channing, Tatum, and Chris Hemsworth are not the same person. They're different people.
Starting point is 00:16:12 I can't believe I just let fist with abs go by. That was so good. It's really funny. Donald Southerlin, not a fist with abs. No, just a regular dude. Do you think he is like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like is like is like is like is like is like is like is like is like is like is like is like is like is like is like is like like is like is like is like like like like like like like like like is like is like like like is like a tha like a thi, like a th. th. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thian. thian. thian. thian. thian. thian. thian. thian. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to to to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the the the. the the's like a witch or something? Because he's very magnetic. Do you think he like sacrificed a baby to get into Hollywood? He is still dead handsome now. Yeah, I saw a picture of him recently like with his son at an awards thing and I was just like, I love you. He's still so hunky. He's in them hunger games. I remember seeing, is he? Yeah, good for him. He's the president. I've refused. I the th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. He's still thea. He's still thea. He's still he's still hea. He's still he? Yeah, good for him. He's the president. I've never seen the hunger games. I refused to see it because it's just battle
Starting point is 00:16:47 royal and it's true. Battle royal for white people. And battle royal is so good. Oh I remember seeing Buffy the Vampire Slayer when I was like 13 and he's like a gross old man in that for a 13 year old and I was like, he's like he's like he's so so so he he's so he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's so so cute he's like he's so cute he's so cute he's like he's like he's like he's so cute he's so cute he's so cute he's so cute he's so cute he's so. He's so. He's so. He's so he's so he's so he's so he's so he's so he's so he's so he's so he's so he's so he's so he's so he's so cute he's so cute he's so cute he's so cute he's so cute he's so cute he's so cute he's so cute. he's so cute. he's so cute. He's so cute. He's so cute. He's so cute. He's like he's like he's like he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's so cute. He's like like, he's like, he's so cute. He's like, he's so cute. He's so cute. He's so cute. He's so cute. Because I've always been your mom. Yeah. I love that movie, that Buffy, the Vampire Sly movie. Oh, it's so good. It's so good. I think you're supposed to like Luke Perry in that movie from to Donald Sutherland. Oh, wow. So John is now on his own in Venice.
Starting point is 00:17:19 He goes out on the streets, which are rivers, or waterways, and he sees, I forgot to mention that when his wife falls down and hurts herself at the table, a waterboat ambulance comes for, it's so greatly. I think that's what I said striking distance about. Yeah, sorry about that confusion. It was so neat. It was neat. I was like, you going to actually mention, I think Venice was almost like another character in this movie.
Starting point is 00:17:47 It's always overcast and everything is so narrow and dark and twisty. Like it's very, it's very, um... It feels like a labyrinth. Yeah, and I feel like in sort of a to be in the city. Yeah. No, I think I have a note that Venice is like a character in this. So, yeah, you nailed it. That's the only serious thing I'm going to say in this entire. John's on his own and he sees a funeral boat go by that has his wife, who he thinks is in England and the two ladies, the psychic and the psychic's sister. Yeah. He's just like, what the shit? Why is she here? And then spends the next part of the movie going to the cops and trying to track down
Starting point is 00:18:29 his wife and going to the hotel that's now closed with a funny, funny hotel man. And blaming basically the sisters for kidnapping his wife or having some sort of control over his wife. just read here on IMDB that the guy who plays the inspector actually didn't speak any English so they just they gave him these lines to read in English he had no idea what they meant which kind of makes him more sinister according to this which I agree yeah yeah yeah his delivery is very weird yeah because he doesn't know what he's saying it's just like you saying yellow over and over I'm saying yellow in Italian no off This is not a condemnation of the Italian language, but the proof that I'm a moron.
Starting point is 00:19:07 I wish that we had that recorded and abused it every time you said, Jalo, as like a little disclaimer. I could put it in there every time. So yeah, John then spends the next part of the movie like, go into the cops and tell him these ladies have kidnapped his wife. Tell its other toupe in this movie. Is he really? That's not his hair. Thanks so much for listening to another episode of Marvel. Bye. No, I'm sorry, go on. I'm getting off IMDB right now.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Let's just talk. He's basically gotten these women arrested. Yeah, they didn't do shit. Right. They were trying to help. But he is very apologetic. He gets a phone call from England, from his wife, saying, hey, everything's cool here. I'll be back in the morning. This is, you know, he's, he probably doesn't even have a concussion. No. And when she's... That Will Smith movie.
Starting point is 00:19:50 When... When she goes to leave, too, the headmaster's like, do you want to say bye to your son one more time before you leave? And she's like, to say, no, oh, John Jr. I don't know. I got to get his flight. There's a Starbucks. Yeah. 19773 Starbucks. So yeah, he's had these interactions with the clergy and with the cops. We're like, oh, they just keep getting creepier and creepier.
Starting point is 00:20:18 And it does that great bird with a crystal plumage and all these other Argento, Chialo movies. Thank you. Where, like, you go to see the cops and the cops are like, oh, you seem to have a lot of good ideas. Go investigate this and then let us know what's going on. Yeah. And they do that to him. Very hands off. Listen, I got a, It's a nice pizza pie. And so he goes off
Starting point is 00:20:46 and he's the one who gets these women arrested by showing the cops where they lived. Yeah. I have a note on here that says why is the blind lady rubbing her boobs? What part was that in again? That was the part where she's having like a weird flash scene of I think having like she Laura, and she's having sex with Donald's other one, because she's going, John, John, ooh, and like grabbing her titties. Oh, that's right. I do, I couldn't figure out what the fuck that was.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Yeah, I don't know what the purpose was, but I got the impression that that's what was going on. OK. All right. I th I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought. I thought, I thought, I thought, I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I t. I thought. to. too. too. too. I too. I too. I too. I too. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thought, yeah, I couldn't tell if she was just having like... I think it was maybe to give legitimacy to her being a psychic because she was like, oh, you guys have sex. And obviously, and also someone grabs your boobs, which I think you could probably guess. But still. Yeah, that was weird. Yeah, I have a note that just says, well, this got fucking weird. Also, there's the scene where he almost holds off, the shears, the s almost the s almost the s almost the s almost the s almost the s almost the s almost the s almost thoes, tho, thus, thus, thus, thus, and he almost thus, and he almost thus, and he almost thus, and he almost thus, and he thus, and he almost thus, and he thi, and thi, and tho, and also someone someone someone someone someone someone, and th. And, and also someone someone someone someone someone someone someone someone someone someone, and thi, and thi, and thi, and th. And, and th. And, and th. And, and th. And, and th. And, and someone someone someone someone someone someone someone someone someone someone someone someone, and th. And, and th. And, and th. And, and thus, and thus, and thus, and thus, and thus, getting into in Venice that he also ducks.
Starting point is 00:21:45 Right. It's a very scary scene and he hangs off the scaffolding where he was working on some restoration in the church for a very long time. Apparently they had a stunt person that was supposed to do that. And the guy was like, oh you don't have the insurance I need to do this, so I'm not doing it. And so Donald Tothed and was like, thi, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, the thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, thi, thus, thus, like, like, like, the sca, the sca, like, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he, and he, and he, and he, and he, and he, and he, and he, and he, and he, and he, and he, and he, the sc. And, the sc. And, and he, the sc. And, the sc. And, the sc. And, the sc. And, the sc. He, the sc. He, the sc. He, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. He's like, thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. And, and he's thi. And, and he's like, okay, I'll do it. Oh, he's so hunky and brave. So they put him on like a wire. Oh, and then he's holding onto the rope. So he does the scene and like later, one of the stuntmen came up and went, the way you were twisting, you had nodded that wire up.
Starting point is 00:22:13 And if you fell, it would have snapped. Gross. But that scene is so tense. It's so tens. It is so tense. Yeah. So you think maybe that's the danger he's in in Venice. Oh, ducked it. He's fine. Right. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The danger he's in in Venice is very strange. So he gets the tea ladies out of, out of police custody.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Very apologetic, walks the blind lady home. Takes them home and it's very sweet. Like they're just the sweetest people. They're really, everyone is nice in this movie as it turns out. Literally everyone except for the final person. I do like that, um, the people that we've chosen we want to be more like, like Julie Christie and Hutch. Yeah, the nice people in these movies. Yeah. Yeah. I sometimes I also want to be a mini-caste-bet, so I don't know. And taking them back to their house, their apartment, or the hotel, I guess they're saying it, he's like, all right, well, I'm going to peel, I'm going to head home, and he goes outside
Starting point is 00:23:12 and sees this person in the red coat that he's been seeing the whole time, that he's looking at when he's at his house. He sees a little person in the red coat similar to the coat that his daughter was wearing when she died. So he chases after this person, like trying to be like, hey, I see you a lot. I guess that was the... And there's another harrowing scene of him like following them on boats. He's like hopping across boat to boat to boat. Don't Don't sell her one, don't do that. You've already had like a very scary day. Yeah. So his wife shows up like a couple minutes after he's left and she's like, oh, ha ha, I'm gonna see you, and this is gonna be great.
Starting point is 00:23:48 And she's chasing after him, goes into the house, sees the ladies. They're like, oh, he's just split. So she's now running a seizure or something in the bed. So they're all running around trying to get him back. That scene was upsetting too because her sister just like shoves her hand into her mouth and try and like grab her tongue. And I was like, ugh. Also, if someone is something a seizure, that's not really what you're supposed to do, because they don't they they they they they they they they You can't even swallow your own tongue. No, you can't. So Migs should still be alive.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Who? Uh, from Sancelain to Lamb's that Hanuble-Elector talks him to swall his own tongue. So John is chasing this person and he hands up in a church and he's chasing him. And chases them all the church and he like locks the gates so that whoever he's chasing can't come back out. So now Laura and this guy are trapped on the outside. Can you explain what happens next? Yes, I can. He walks into the room where the person in the red coat is
Starting point is 00:24:54 where the person in the red coat is and they're blerwitching it in the corner. I can't remember what. The person turns around, it is not his dead daughter, it is not even a child. It's a horrifying lady dwarf, I would say. It looks, I think it's meant to look very similar to the statue that he was installing earlier. You see like he's like got his face pressed up against. And she just pulls out a knife and cuts his throat. Why? Why Jesus, God, why? I don't know either.
Starting point is 00:25:25 But it took this like already bleak movie and was just like, oh by the way, go fuck yourself. Yeah, it's very sad. We just watch him bleed out while his wife is outside of the gate screaming for him. From this person we've never seen before and have no connection to and don't know why. And then we see his funeral procession, and it's the scene thua that's that's that he that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's that he's th. th. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. the. the. the. to. toe. toe. toe. toe. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. th procession and it's the scene that he saw earlier of his wife on the boat with the two sisters. He was having like a premonition of his own funeral. Confirming that he's got the shine. Yeah. Well, had the shine.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Oh, Donald Sutherland. He's still alive as a real guy. So sad. Is this a horror movie, would you say? Yeah, for sure. I do. I mean, I think it's got all the atmospherics of a horror movie. I think it's like, yeah, I mean, it's blurring lines for sure. It's definitely a thriller. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:14 I can see how it influenced a lot of other horror. Although I saw Antichristy just a remake of this movie except that Lars Vontrier doesn't understand anything about anyone or ever anything. Doesn't understand what love is? No, no no no and it even has like the gratuitous sex scenes and I think in Antichrist they really are gratuitous as opposed to and don't look now. Doesn't isn't there? No go for it. Isn't there plenty of jackalot and anti-fired I. I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. Isn't there plenty of jackalot and anti-finding? I think maybe but also I saw... She hits him in the dick with a piece of wood and then jerks him off. Oh yeah, oh god, yeah. Fuck! Guys, if you haven't seen Antichrist, don't. It's terrible. I just said it was the funniest movie I'd seen that year. Oh my god. Oh my god. It's very similar to this movie but without any semblance of feeling or emotion or like true human interactions. Also I saw Antichrist right after I had seen both volumes of
Starting point is 00:27:09 Nymphomaniac so I just spent like hours of my life watching Charlotte Gainsborg roll around naked and I just couldn't anymore. Did you find a silkwood shower to go? I'm actually still I'm dead. I'm actually dead and a ghost so. Chaos rays. Why? Why they're why? This movie did not have a talking to to to to to to to to to to to the to to the to the to their their to their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their I their I their I their I their I their I their I their I their I their I their I their I their I I I I I I I I I I their I I their I their their their their their their their their their their their their their to to to to to to. to. to. to. to. I to. I th. I'm th. th. I th. I'm th. I th. I th. I their their their. I dead. I'm actually dead and a ghost. So chaos. Right. They're wide. This movie did not have a talking fox, but it did have swimming rats. Oh yeah. I didn't know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:34 I was stunned and upset by that. I didn't know. It was reminded me of the scene in Last Crusade, Indiana Jones and last crusade when they're in Venice and he's going to look at, have you seen the Last Crusade? And he's going to look at the... Is that the one with the, where they both boinked the same Nazi? Yeah, the same hot Nazi? Yeah. The hot sea?
Starting point is 00:27:51 No, I knew you were I don't remember that. I didn't know rats could swim. I was very disheartened by that. I guess it's, you always hear the phrase like drowning like rats from a sinking ship or maybe that's not right? No, the rats are leaving a sinking ship. Well, where are they going? Well, forget it. Well, forget it. Well, forget it. You didn't hang out with enough pirates. No. Because in a backdrop to this movie, the whole time they're talking about a serial killer, they keep finding these bodies in the canals. When they pulled out that woman's body, I was like, oh, that's your wife. Yeah, it's not. It's just some other lady in her underpants.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Yeah, and that was like, did they just actually pull it? Did they like, were they there when a dead body got pulled and put it in the movie? Like, I hope not. You know, it was the seven days. It was in creep towns. I guess. So, the serial killer was this little person, gargoyle looking lady.
Starting point is 00:28:56 So weird. You know the last movie we talked about the howling like halfway through that it just goes in the fucking nuts Wait, it's like they just had like dice with different actions that were gonna happen in a movie that they rolled and this movie just like in the last five minutes They're like oh by the way this is bonkers. Yeah This whole thing has been bonkers the whole time. He's been seeing this bunker shit because it's bongers But but but it's there but it's there but it's there's there's there's there's there's there's but it's but it's but it's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's the the the the the the the the th th they the they's the the the the the the the the they's the the they's the the th they's they's they's they's thour cinema up to them. You're just kind of like, oh, all right, bonkers, I understand. I'll take that bunkers, thank you. Yeah. So Katie, in honor of this movie, you want to move on in the ratings phase? Sure. with those boots and that coat and the sweaters and skirts and even that weird sparkly cardigan buttoned up thing that she's wearing later.
Starting point is 00:29:50 I loved it. I want her haircut. I just want it, I just want it anyway. I love this movie. I thought it was a really good mind fuck as you explained, as you called earlier. I think it's what a lot of psychological thrilers are striving to be and maybe even missing the mark because it's not heavy-handed like you're he's seeing these visions and you don't really know what they are right until the end and I think that's really effective also half of it's an Italian I don't know what they're saying
Starting point is 00:30:15 that's really my only criticism but I love this I'm gonna give it a nine oh awesome yeah yeah I love that's really great I'm a thattha other ones, but. Sorry, I'm just objectifying men this week. Fuck them, they deserve it. Yeah. What did you call Channing Tatum, a fist with abs? I'm really into that. I'm really love that. What about you? Kitty, I also loved this movie. Yeah. their tily I thi th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. theea. thea. thea. tea. ta. ta. ta. ta. toda. ta. thea. thea. thea. the you for doing this. I'm mad at you. You're dicks. You guys are the worst. You're the best guys.
Starting point is 00:30:48 No, you're fine. So this movie always shows up on like most beautiful, most atmospheric horror movies, like horror movies that you should see that no one talks about and fucking A, a hundred percent. How is this not like part of the curriculum for all horror nerds. Because I think it's not exactly a horror movie. It's just there's it becomes horrific at the end. Yeah. But I think that so much of it is it's sort of genre crossing. I think it's as much of a horror movie as Rosemary's baby. I mean it's got like all the occult stuff that's going on it's got the atmosphere of it going on, or... I guess so. Have you seen the George C. Scott Classic The Changeling? Canadian Ghost movie? You know I haven't. It's great. We should probably do that at some point. Sure. But yeah, I think it's like it's in the grand tradition of got the gothic horror I think time. And it's that red temper of paint, you know. Best blood.
Starting point is 00:31:45 70s, you have the best blood. Top blood. I don't know what you guys were eating back then. But, oh, it's not, they didn't. Yeah, no, you're right. They didn't really kill Donald. No, you're a doctor. We haven't mentioned this on. Yeah. Ah. So, as all doctors do, what am I talking about?
Starting point is 00:32:06 No, when you, when you get hurt or sick, a doctor comes in an ambulance and they doctor you up. They should fix it. But a werewolf ambulance ambulance. And sometimes it's on a boat. Sometimes it's on a boat. Sometimes it's on a boat. Sometimes it's a striking distance. to put werewolf decals on a friend. We gotta start making money from this first.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Can you guys give us money? I cannot do this out of pocket. Go fund me to get a werewolf ambulance. What are we going to do in it though? Indy-Go. Cross-country tour in a werewolf fabulance. We will drive to the hundred of fans we would give this movie at 9. Like see it, fucking see it. If you're a fan of Gothic horror, if you're a fan of atmosphere, if you're a fan of Donald
Starting point is 00:32:50 Southam's butt and you are. So see this movie. Yeah, totally. It's totally worth your time. And then, like, I don't know, watch Caddy Shack or something to get yourself pumped back up afterwards. I love cattyshack. I the cat cat cat th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th.
