Really played by Danny.

He was never in anything else in his whole life.
Right. Yeah.

A tent pole movie. One of the movies that holds up the tent of horror.
I see.
I can't say it like other people I have to say horror.
Horror.
That's good.
We're going to discuss the shining and all of its ins and outs.
Hopefully not all of its ins and outs or all of its ins and outs. and 24 minutes long. Alan, I don't know. I guess because they need to build some tension or something and because Stanley Kubrick
is a maniac or was a maniac.
Yeah, yeah for sure.
I think those are probably the reasons.
Yeah.
Do you think his dislike of women fueled him to make really long movies?
Well, I know this was not Stephen King's favorite rendition of it, but his favorite rendition is four and a half hours long, the Brian from Wings version.
Terribly acted.
You know, like, there's this one scene where Brian from Wings is drinking at the bar,
but then he has to fly a plane to the Antucket and his responsible older brother Joe
comes in.
No?
And Helen's like, I used to be fat. No, tha, tha, tha, thian, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, thi, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, thi, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, is to to to to to toooooi, is tooi, is too fat, no? You're conflating again.
Yeah, fuck.
I also can't watch single white female.
It just doesn't make any sense to me.
I will say in my reading about this movie,
I read up on some of the stuff that Stephen King doesn't like about the Kubrick version.
Because I think, you know, spoiler, cubic version is a fucking classic. It's an amazing movie. It's like, like, the the the the the the f. the f. the f. the f. th. the f. the f. th. th. th. the f. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I. I's. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. fucking classic. It's an amazing movie. Unreal.
It's like, every shot, I'm just like,
what the fuck?
How do you set up?
Like, I wouldn't even think to do that.
It's amazing.
But I agree with one of the criticisms I read
that King has supposedly said,
Jack Nicholson doesn't as the character because, as he comes out of the gate as a fucking raging asshole.
Yeah.
Brian from Wings doesn't.
Oh really?
I skimmed it because it's four and a half hours.
But it seemed like a loving father who was starting to crack up.
Yeah. As opposed to a bonkers dude.
Everything is as opposed to the joker.
Every scene, like in the beginning when he's got the job interview, and every answer seems
like, oh, I'm a fucking asshole.
I'm going to tell you this because I'm a fucking asshole.
Yeah.
And I have to wonder if, you know, going back and watching this movie, because this is a movie
that I own, I've watched a number of times and like, you know, putting the disc
in and as soon as the helicopter shot shot, and the shot shot shot shot shot shot in and as the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the disc in and as soon as the helicopter shot start, I'm tense. Like my tension, my tensometer is just through the roof.
Yeah.
And it stays that way for the full, full run of this thing, except when you do you doze
off halfway in the throw it, but.
You don't need to see that part though, because you get the chest. But like watching it now, do I think th he he th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. Do I thi. Do I thi. Do I thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. Do I thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi is thi is thi. thi is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the is the is teeeeeeean. tean. tean. teean. teean. teean. teeeean. tean. tea. olson just set to asshole at all times?
Like, I don't think he is a human is,
but I think he's certainly playing it.
Yeah.
Yeah, he definitely comes at first opening seat
and he's being an asshole in the car.
He's just being like, yeah.
He's being short and he doesn't, you can tell he's crazy.
After telling his kid. Yeah, he's like five-year-old. His five-year-old. The one whose army broke, or dislocated, or whatever.
Oh God.
And Shelly Duval, let me get this out of the way.
I really like Shelly Duval.
I have very fond memories of a fairy tale theater from my childhood.
Don't know what that is, but I like that you like.
It was like a renditions of fairy tales done for kids
but they were like a little bit weird and Shelley Duval was the host oh nice
and she was in a couple of them like they would be then acted out and she
narrated a lot of them too I think she also produced them I think she
was like it was her project but it was great I like her she's great I'm this fucking movie.'s directed. Sure, Kubrick, not a fan of the ladies.
It's just really, I just, ah, to compare and contrast,
Rebecca de Mournay, in the Brian from Wings version,
is like kind of a hard ass, or she's always holding her own.
She's like, no, this shit's crazy. You can't just keep being an asshole, this shit is crazy. Shelly Duval is like, I don't know, I didn't go over there, I'm Danny.
Yeah.
I can't with that.
I think by the end of the movie, she has like,
she's gotten a spine and she's standing up to Jack.
When she's like forcing Danny out the window and, you know, she's still flailing and being ineffectual. But I would be too.
I feel like you can run better than that.
I feel like you're just a little more coordinated that you know not to let your wrists flop because it's not aerodynamic.
She does knock up the fuck out though, baseball bat.
Oh yeah.
That scene where she is swinging the bat and him going up the stairs, 127 takes.
Oh really? Yeah, it's the apparently the world record holder
for the most takes of any scene in which there's spoken dialogue.
Maybe she just hadn't choked up so far on that bat.
No, I think it seems like Stanley Kubrick was just super hard on her.
Yeah.
Did you watch the Making of Documentary that's on the DVD?
Did not. There's a, they've got a shot of, before the act scene where he's going at the door while
she's in the bathroom.
They're showing Jack Nicholson like getting himself hyped before he, like before they call
action and it's just like, it's so upsetting to watch him like revving himself up to get.
What's he doing? He's just pacing and like, kind of talking to himself and like getting like, he's the thi, th.......... th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, to. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the they.ire up to be at the level he needs to be at when he goes at the door and it's just like...
You don't do that before you go into the office in the morning?
No, I have embarrassingly done that before I've done vocals on records before the
top serious. I got made fun of the phone before doing it. Yeah well you should have.
I was a joocke. It was not good. Yeah, it's right. We don't need to do a wrap up to this and they're freeing, right guys?
No, you guys have seen it.
Okay.
Let's, let's talk about it.
Okay.
Let's talk about the movie.
Yeah.
Big question.
the
Yeah. I know that's like the, uh... I think there's ghosts.
Do you?
Yeah.
Hmm.
Well, there might not be.
So both.
I mean, I think there is because all three of them are interacting with it.
Well, Jack's crazy.
And Danny's psychic.
Wendy doesn't...
She's had a psychological snap.
She doesn't actually interact with anything.
She only sees things so she could be losing it too.
It's true. Yeah, I don't know.
I was thinking a lot about this for the last several days.
You know what I've been thinking a lot about?
The bear giving the dude a blow job. I just don't understand what that's supposed to mean. I think that scene is 13 seconds long,
and it's all I can think about when I think of this movie.
Really?
Because it's so out of nowhere.
Yeah.
And if I were to see that in waking life,
and not a movie form if I'm walking down a hallway,
and I see that scene, I'm done.
I'm just going to explode right there.
Really. I'm done. I'm just going to explode right there. I feel like it's less shocking in a World War furries or more mainstream, you know?
No, I mean, first of all, he's wearing like those kid pajamas where the butt flap is open?
I don't think that's what that is. I think that's more like a furry costume of like you can get fucked in here.
Right. And then... I don't think it's as innocent as you just described it, you know? That's your first impression is you see like just a bare ass hanging out of this like pajamas. And then when he leans up and you
see the mall on this thing, it's like in this weird X format for the mouth and you
can tell that it can't move so he's not giving anybody a blowjob, it just has his
head in some dude's lap. What's he doing? I don't know. I read a bunch of like, so there's a ton of conspiracy theories
around this movie.
Yeah, I was just googling what,
because I read a lot of them, but I didn't know
what the bear was doing.
So I was like reading up on what people thought the bear was doing.
And here's something you guys could be thinking about and focusing all your energy on rather than whether or not 9-11
was an inside job and whether or not this proves the moon landing didn't
happen. Yeah. I would like to talk to that. I'm gonna go on the record and
the fucking moon landing hampers. And we can come back to this too obviously is that it's like people see it and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th. th. the th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. their, thi. thi. I thi. I thi. I's, th. I's, thi. thi. thi. they's, th. I's, th. I's, thi. I's, thi. I'm, their, their, thi. I's, thi. I's, th. I's, th. I's, th. I's, th. I's, th. I, th. I's, th. I's, th. I's, th. I's, they. I's, th. I's, th. I's, they. I's, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they. they. they. th. I'm, they. I's, th. thing about the moon landing conspiracy, and we can come back to this too, obviously, is that it's like, people see it and they're like, oh, it's done on a sound stage, you can
tell because these shadows are wrong, blah, blah, blah, blah, but also Stanley Kubrick fucking
did it, the shadows wouldn't be wrong.
Right.
So, you just dispro if something like this had happened. Or what if they've been keeping fuck from shit all along and we don't know about it?
I mean, the conspiracy theories don't make me crazy.
I just... Do you enjoy them?
You know, for a while I was a moon landing denier.
Oh, really? Well, yeah, because I read like one, it was in college and I read like one very convincing book called Moon Lanings, didn't ask a lie. And the answer comes up with is yes, they lied.
But you know, the more I thought about it,
and the older I got, I was kind of like,
it probably did happen.
And I certainly don't think that the shining
is Stanley Kubrick apologizing for it.
No. Because what? That man doesn't see that man gives a shit about the plate of the Native American either. Yeah, I mean, yeah.
These are all the whack job theories that, like if you watch the room two, three, seven.
Yeah, the Native American one I think is less whack job.
Okay. Because he does, Kubrick did add the line about it being on an Indian burial ground, which is not in the book. Okay. Because he was already going to do th. th. th. C th. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. the th. the the the th. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the way. the way. the the the the the the way. the way. the way. the way. the way. the way. the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the the the the the the they. th. the th. th. th. th. th. the. the. thea. the. the. the. the. the. the. W. W. the. the. W. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the book. Okay. And Stephen King did not endorse. Because he was already going to do that in Pet Cemetery. Yeah, he had that one
lined up. And there are a lot, I mean there's a lot of Native American art and
imagery in there but it may just be the location and they thought it was
appropriate. Sure. You know and they do, he does kill Dick right on top of an Indian motif floor so I don't know. But I the the, but I tho. tho. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, thi, thi, thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I mean, I thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, the. the. the. the. the. the. theory about the like white man killing off the black man in America?
Oh, that's a good question.
Dick Hollerin, the head cook, head chef, I guess.
You went to culinary school.
When we go to his apartment in Miami, it's my favorite thing ever, or his house probably.
Yeah, delightful looking patio.
Yeah. The paintings in his bedroom are fucking fantastic.
Well, titties.
Well, they're just like these.
Oh, they're just insane.
They're just like, I can't even describe them.
They're just these beautiful women with giant afros.
And they're just, just really casually zoomed in upon. And there's one on either side of his pets,
no matter what he's doing, you can see one.
Yep.
It's pretty good.
Take color, he knows what he's doing.
And he's a great dude.
Great dude.
Yeah, it's Captain Crothers, the the the therelease.
the truth.
Oh, I don't have. We miss you, Hong Kong Fooey. Number one, Superdog.
I don't have any idea what that means.
It's a cartoon from the 70s.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
Did you know that another one of the conspiracy theories is that the Illuminati
killed Kubrick?
I know.
No.
Yeah.
Why?
Eyes? Eyes and triangles feature highly in this film, like the Masonic symbols.
The all-seeing eye.
There's a lot of triangular chairbacks, step ladders, roofs, mountains, and tapering corridor shots.
And allegedly, the Illuminati was so upset by this, they killed him and made it look like a heart attack.
Because they're magicians? And because he used triangles.
I'll dare you, that's our shape. That's that's thaghape. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's thi. That's th dare you that's our shape. I know. I know. The thing that drives
me nuts about conspiracy theories is that you're retconning things to fit into
your theory. Sure. You know like conspiracy theories aren't predicting shit
but they're definitely on what happened in the past they're all over it.
Well that's true. I don't know what to say. I watched literally an eight minute video on YouTube today
about how there's an object in the wave of blood
that comes out of the elevator.
And you can see it, there definitely is.
Something falls out with the blood, lands on the ground,
and then the blood kind of like flows over it.
And they were like, it was this literally an eight minute video, like th.
It was this literally an eight minute video like trying to figure out what it was and like zooming in and in and slower and slower and slower
Yeah, it wasn't Ronald Reagan. What was it? I don't I don't I think it was the twin towers. I don't know.
I don't know. They didn't know either. Nobody knows. If you look at it you'll see it but yeah. It may have just been part of the set. the set. I'm sure something something blew out out out out out out out out out. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the their. th. the the th. the the the th. the th. the the the th. the the the th. the the th. the the th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. the. the. the. the the. the through that. Well, apparently they shot that scene, like every couple of days for like an entire year. It was shot so many times just to get it right.
They like couldn't get the consistency, right?
And then they couldn't get the color right, and then they didn't, it didn't flow right.
And they would have to like clean it all up and do it again. fake blood off the floor and just like, I can't look down a long corridor
without seeing that blood coming from.
Oh yeah, I always picture the twin girls.
Every time I'm in like a hotel, I travel for work
and then I'll stay in a hotel by myself
and they're usually like nice hotels.
And I'm just humble bragging here.
But when I'll like step out of my room or something and look down a hallway, always expect to see those two girls. Ugh, that's worse than the blood.
Yeah.
Like, that scene where Danny is riding his big wheel around,
and you know what's going to happen,
you know they're going to be, when he turns left,
they're going to be there.
I will like clinch my stomach until they show up, because I know they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's that's that's that's that's the. the. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that.. that's that's that's that's that's that. that. that's that's that. that. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's that's that's that's that's that's th. the. the. the. the. the. thea. theaneaneaneaneaneaneaneaneaneaneaneanea. that's that's that's that's that's You know who's not good at all? The kid in the Brian from Wings version.
He's fucking, I like, he's a child.
I don't need to be a dick.
He's fucking terrible.
He's just like,
Jodgy, I don't thank you anymore, and mommy's yelling.
And I was like, fuck you, shut up. working this movie's four and a half hours long you've had a lot of practice
man I'm sorry that's a child I'm sorry it's a child too just casting Danny as a
full-grown adult the big wheel scene yeah where it's like on the carpet
and then loud on the floor on the carpet there's a Canadian like hardcore
band called One-Eyed God prophecy and their LP starts off with
that noise and it was like the third time that I was listening to it was like holy fuck I do with that it like
blew my mind that they used the sound from the shining that is my favorite
scene in the whole movie it's so upsetting oh yeah yeah so good so bad yeah
not like the Baird blowjob jammies or the woman in the bathtub, which is fucking terrifying. I think of the movies we've discussed so far in this podcast,
this is the first truly terrifying one.
Probably the only truly terrifying one.
Nothing scares me like this movie, but I want.
And I've seen this movie like a hundred fucking times.
I'm still scared every time.
It's so tense. that I have two hours and 24 minutes of a movie or... You get that nappy in the middle. Can I wake up for the bear scene?
Gotta wake up for the bear scene?
That is not... It's very close to the end.
Not a scene you would have to wake up to though.
No, I wouldn't imagine.
So yeah.
So, yeah, I swear that the first few. So if it's just... It happens really fast, so maybe you just missed it.
Yeah, but there are like multiple cuts of this film.
There's like a European cut that's in like,
oh really?
119 minutes.
Ooh.
And then there was like a theatrical cut that was shorter than the one that I watched
on digital, versatile disc. Yeah. And then there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's their their their their their their their their their their their their their thoom. thoom. thoom. that's like, that's like, that's like, that's like, that's like, that's like, that's like, that's like, that's that's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. their their th. their their their their th. th. their the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th a half hour one. That's not a cut of this movie.
So what did you find out?
I don't know if we ever got into what you found out about the blowjob dog.
Oh, no, it was some conspiracy nonsense bullshit.
Oh, it didn't.
Yeah, it immediately went down some like illuminating nonsense.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
His mouth is shaped like the movie because I don't remember being in the book but I read the book when I was in high school and
as we all know that was approximately 73 years ago apparently it's has some
relevance to the book did you ever read in high school okay of course
when else is one read the dead zone this year I really had a to? It's like a Stephen King book You know what you're getting into, like, it's fine.
It's like a worm blanket made out of like really itchy material to me.
Apparently there was a character in the book who was the sex toy of Horace Derwent, who
was the mysterious Howard Hughes' owner of the overlook.
And the apparition of the guy in the dog suit chased Danny around at one point and mentioned that he would huff and puff until Harry Derwent's all blown down. Also in the Brian from Wings version
do you want me to stop talking about it because I'll talk please please? I only
promised the fence like I really only watched probably in total about 40
minutes of it I'll probably watch the whole thing at some point but
there was a scene with a man and a dog mask chasing Danny around. And I was like, this is very weird. I think just seeing it like that is way more upsetting than I'm chasing him around.
Yeah, it was not scary at all when he was chasing.
I mean nothing in this movie, nothing in the miniseries.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
He did walk in while I was watching the scene of Stephen King dancing on stage. Yeah. The king fan of his fucking. thian. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, that, that, that. It doesn't make her so subservient and childlike.
I mean, she's basically another Danny.
She's just Danny not psychic.
You know?
Although, like, when Jack loses the plot and he's just bouncing balls off walls all day,
she takes over running the place.
It seems like probably because she's always cleaning up his dumb, drunk messes. She's probably used to just doing everything everything the balls the balls the balls the balls the balls the balls the balls the the the the th all th all th all th all to just th and to just th and to just to running the place. It seems like from the start she's running the place. It seems like probably because she's always cleaning up his dumb drunk messes.
She's probably used to just doing everything for him.
Fury hates me.
And defending him to that doctor who's like, no, you're wrong.
You're wrong, lady.
Real talk?
Yeah, no.
This is real, this is real real talk. This movie for the domestic issues are super upsetting to me because it's just like
it's a little too close to home a lot of the time.
I mean who didn't have a drunk dad?
Yeah and I think.
Oh you didn't?
Oh, I'm listening audience.
How lovely for you?
I hope you didn't.
I hope you didn't do.
As a child, there was one set of things that scared me in this movie and it was the ghosty supernatural stuff. And as an adult it's just like, oh fuck, let's like, yeah, it's the domestic stuff that I find the most upsetting at this point.
Oh, and the woman walking out of the bathtub is still fucking terrifying.
Yeah. It's terrifying even when she's like hot nude, just like, also don't make it. Is it really how men are? They're just like, oh, bone down, bone down, don't know how you got here, don't know
where you came from, bone down.
I'm just surprised he stopped.
Yeah, even though she was all going gross out.
Oh God, men, you're the worst.
It's true. So can we talk about like sort of the mystery at the end, the photograph, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, to to, to to, to to, to, to, to, to, and, to, to, to, to, and, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, I, I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, I to, I'm, the mystery at the end, the photograph. The movie ends with a shot of basically Jack has been chasing Danny around the maze.
Obviously you've seen it. Danny does like the smartest thing a six-year-old could ever do.
Yeah, I'm 31 I wouldn't think of that. I would just keep running until I died.
Oh, backtracking. Yeah, it's super smart. And who was thinking? No, I'm sorry. Maybe I think that's like like like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like the that's like that's like the the the the thi. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. thi. the smartest. thi. thi. that's like the s' the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. the smartest. and you want to make sure your friends can't find you
so you're backtracking.
But then Danny doesn't have any friends, so I don't know what's doing.
Yeah, I don't think Wendy is chasing him around playing Army.
Yeah.
Yeah. Anyway.
Back to the sadness hole. So it, there's a shot of Jack's frozen face. Yeah.
And then it cuts to the back to the inside of the hotel and does a very, very slow zoom
on a wall of photos into the photo in the center, into the like actual people in the photo
and at the very front center is Jack Nicholson.
Standing in a, um, the pose in that black and white photograph is the exact same as the tarot card for a baffaffaffaffaffaffaffaff.... the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the that black and white photograph is the exact same as

In what tarot deck? You know it actually if you Wikipedia baffameet that picture,
it's it's a pretty good name. And then it says Overlook Hotel, July 4th
1921. Right. And then it's presented as sort of this like, aha, this explains it all., th. A, th. A, to, to, the, to, to, to, to, the, to, the, th. the, to, the, the, th. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, their, and, and, and then, their, their, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, is is is is, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and then, and, is is, and then, is a their, their, their, ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. taroo. taroo. taroo-s. taroo-a. ta. ta. ta. this like, aha, this explains it all a moment, but it actually explains nothing and makes it more complicated.
Earlier in the film, he's interacting with the ghost of, or his psychic projection of a ghost,
of the man who killed his family.
Grady. He's now a butler.
I just got chills when I said the name Grady.
Yeah, he's so good at being a fucking creep too. But he says you've
always been the caretaker just like I've always been the butler and like so
that sort of sets up that ending thing of like he's always been there. So what do
you think? What do you think? What do you mean? One of the theories
that like sort of abounds is that he was absorbed by the hotel. Okay. The hotel sort of took took took took took took took took took took took took took took took took he took he he he he he he he he he he th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. tho. th. the hotel is the hotel is the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. So the hotel is like a malevolent
force itself that will consume you. Did you read at all about the original
ending that was sent out in screeners and then was deleted like after the
screeners did really well? Well he, I guess Kubrick decided anyone in there.
He instructed everyone that they had sent the movie to to cut out the frames and mail them back to Warner Brothers or whatever. Right. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That, that, that, that, that, that, they had sent the movie to cut out the frames with scissors
and mail them back to Warner Brothers or whatever.
The original ending had Ulman, the hotel owner, director, whatever, the guy, the administrator
of the hotel, I guess, showing up to the hospital where Danny and Wendy are, and he asks
them how they're doing and he's being super friendly and whatever, whatever,
whatever.
He says something to Wendy about how the police went through it with a fine tooth comb and they
found nothing.
I can understand how you went crazy up there, but nothing was up there and it's totally fine.
You should come to my house in LA and Yeah, your face just lit up all scared like.
Yeah.
That's closer to how the book ends.
Oh really?
Yeah, they blow up and doesn't that catch fire blow up at the end?
It does at the end of Brian from wings.
It does. It might have to do that in the book.
I don't remember that Scatman Crothers lives. and they, Dick Holler and Danny and Wendy,
all go off together to like, kind of recuperate from this thing.
Dick, Dick Holleran actually comes in and save them.
Wow.
So. We'll see what happens at the end of Brian from Wings.
I haven't seen all the same.
Who plays Get Mancrow the Brun?
Do you know who that is?
Yeah, it's a Mario Van Peebles, do you know who that is? Yeah, it's a Mario Van Peebles dad. He was a, Melvin Van Peebles was a huge, like,
black exploitation director and actor in the 70s.
Hold on, trying to remember what his big movie was.
Oh, Sweet Sweet Back,
like considered to be one of the first
black exploitation films in 1971,
or one of the biggest at least. He he's, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, to to be, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the. too, toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe't know if it's just that he's not given much to work with in the Brian from Wings version, on which Stephen
King is, by the way, executive producer. Yeah, it's his preferred version. He is very, very
not Scott Man Crothers. He's just very overblown and he drives like a flashy red fish-tailed convertible and like wears like a Panama hat. Oh, nice. And, um, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. I th. I's thi, thi, th. I th. I th. I th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. And whenever Danny shines with him it like knocks him down and makes his nosebleed.
Oh wow, that might be a book thing too.
I think it's a lot, a lot true to the book because Stephen King was like, no.
I mean, he wrote a draft for the Kubrick version, apparently as part of his contract
that he could write a draft and they literally just threw it away it a it away it to to to to to to to to to to to their it to their it to their to theirrick version, apparently as part of his contract, that he could write a draft, and they literally just threw it away, didn't even look at it.
He didn't even look at it.
The thing is, like, Kubrick did make a fucking amazing movie.
Oh, for sure.
Like, he was a dick.
He was a raging cock, but like, you know,
who hated women, you know, by everything I can tell. Although I never saw Eyes Wide Shut, which has like a really prominent female role,
which I think none of his other movies do.
And I think Tom Cruise is kind of the trot upon character
in that, not a woman.
Oh, okay.
I think so.
Okay.
But I'm not sure. Yeah.
I'll never see it.
Yeah. I mean, I thought when we were doing this.
were doing this movie I knew we'd be talking a lot about Kubrick I thought oh I should watch I said that and then I was like no this is that this movie
has taken up my movie budget for the week so two and a half fucking hours
ladies and gentlemen are you a fan of Kubrick's other movies like a
clock work orange and full metal jacket and two thousand one is fucing a space to see 2001 which I know is not right right th th th right th right th right th right th right th right th I th right th I th I th I th th th th th th th th th thus I th th thus I thus I thus thus thus thus thus thus thus. 2001 is fucking fantastic, but it is a heroic feat to get through that film.
In my opinion.
That's fair.
I have seen both full metal jacket and a clockwork orange.
And while I appreciate them, I don't know that I like them.
I'm the same.
I just, I kind of can't. Yeah.
He was for sure an artist and what he did, like unquestionably,
like one of the greatest directors.
And a huge perfectionist and just,
apparently he was still cutting the shining, like, on the day of his death.
Really?
Still like working on it.
Because he, like, he didn't make that many movies for as long as he was making film for.
No.
Well, this took him like five goddamn years or something.
Yeah.
It's a really long time.
Yeah, it's a really good movie.
Well, yeah.
It still works all these years late.
I mean, also I can't believe this movie. thi thi. It feels like it feels like, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, to, to, to to to took, thi, to to to to to tha, tha, took, took, took, took, took, took, took, took, took, took, took, like, took, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, took, took, took, took, took, took, took, took, took, took, to. to. to. to. thes, to. to. too. too. too, too. too. took, took, like, like, like, something. It feels like so 70s to me. Is that Shelley Duval's outfits that make you think that?
Oh man, what the fuck?
Like the gigum dress over like the union suit?
What the fuck is she wearing?
I know.
I know.
I know, they really uglade her up in this.
Yeah, beautiful.
Yeah, I know. She's a s She is. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the thu. thu. thu. the thu. th. the the the th. the the the the the the the the the the the thathe. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thea. th. th. thea. th. th. thea. th. th. the the th. the the the th. the th. the the at. But they just, they made her, they weren't working with her. No.
I mean, purposefully, purposefully.
There's a scene where Danny picks up the red lipstick off her,
like her dressing table and writes red rum on the,
but like there's no way that Wendy had a red lipstick just open on her dressing table.
There's no way Wendy owned a red lipstick. Right. Yeah. Yeah, she's the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi's. th. thi's. th. thi's. thi's. thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. the, the, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. And I think, no, I think she doesn't really take care of herself
because she's so busy taking care of her family.
I think that's the implication that she's just like let herself go
because her children, her like drunk husband and her actual child
who has, clearly has mental problems,
are taking up all of her time.
Yeah, so intense. Yeah, this movie th is thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi's thi's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thei. thei. thei. that's of a bum out, guys. Oh, for sure.
There's one of the other theories about this movie is that it's actually all a dream,
which is sort of, um, backed up by the fact that there's all these like sort of spatial problems with it.
Like, rooms seem to come and go, and there's rooms that have windows that couldn't possibly have windows because they're surrounded by other rooms. I del del like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other the other. the other. the other. the other. the other. I delved like
super deep into maps that people were drawing of the Overlook Hotel. Oh really?
It's bonkers, bananas, crazy. There's no- This more conspiracy theory stuff or

where his typewriter set up. You think it goes directly into like the lobby but sometimes it's like, it's the today's. Yeah, yeah, usually the house,
whatever house I'm in is the house I'm currently live in,
but it's set up the house I grew up the house the movie. Does it? Yeah, and there's like some conspiracy thing about. I just got chills about that.
The fact that they're using different typewriters.
And like everything comes back to Kubrick
knew exactly what he was doing.
Did you know that in an international versions of this movie,
the idiom on the page changes?
Oh really? So in German, it's never put off till tomorrow, tododododod tom tom tom tom too, too, too, too, too, too, to, too, to, to, to, to, to, the, to, the, the, the, the, the, the, tho, the, the, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, the, their, their, their, everything, their, everything, their, everything, their, their, everything, their, their, th................. th, everything, everything, everything, everything, everything, everything, th...... th. th. thi. thi, everything, everything, everything, everything, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thii. thiii. thi. thii. thi. thi. thi., obviously in German. In French, it's one, here you go is worth more than two you'll have it.
Which is kind of like a bird in the hand is worth one in the bush, you know.
My favorite is the Italian, which is, the morning has gold in its mouth.
I wish it had yellow in its mouth.
The matino, alo the the thorouininininininininininininahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah oa that's that's that's that's toe that's that's toe toe toe that's, all the the the theor and boca.
So weird.
Yeah, I really, I love that though.
Yeah, why wouldn't, I wonder why all work and no play wouldn't translate?
Because it's just sort of like an English, it doesn't mean any, I mean I mean
I mean something, but it's like, it's sort of an English reference, I guess. They have their own shit, you know. How upsetting is it when she's going through that ream of paper that he has typed out?
Like, it seems so innocuous to just find, you know, all these pages that are typed up with the exact same phrase, but it's so gross and upsetting and just like off-putting and...
And all the typos somehow make it worse. Yeah. Uh-huh. Apparently Cubric typic typed. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to th-I-I-I-I-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s th-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th-s th-s th-s th-s th-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-seeea-sea-sea-sea-sea-sea-sea-s thi-s thi- good. I was wondering if he made somebody else do that. I'm glad that he did that.
Some poor production assistant is just like, my fingers hurt.
Just had Jay's permanently burnt into their fingers.
Oh, God, what a nut bar?
Who?
Who?
?
Yeah.
.
So are you a fan of Kubrick generally? I'm not a super fan.
A lot of people are super fans.
Yeah, I don't like Full Metal Jacket.
I think it's a really good first half of a movie,
but then the second half I'm not a fan of.
Um, I have never seen Clockwork Orange all the way through.
Yeah. I lovedough-I love to thousand-I th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho-I tho-I tho-I tho-I tho-I tho-I tho-I tho-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a, th, th, I th, I th, I th, I th. Yeah, I th. There's no dialogue for like 45 minutes of the movie.
Just to be a dick.
It's just like, fuck you.
But it's gorgeous.
You know, it's eye candy and beautiful.
And as is this, obviously.
Yeah, so bored.
Oh my god.
Like the room where the woman is in the bathtub. insanely gorgeous. I took stills of it because I'm thinking about renovating my bathroom.
I'm serious. Oh, that's awesome. I wanted to look like that. Yeah. And then I want a nude woman to come out of the bathtub and hug me with her scabs.
And then I'll make a note that says don't kiss that naked lady. She's a monster. She got a straight up monster. That old woman's laugh though. Oh, it's so good. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, I's a th. Oh, I's a th. Oh, I's a th. Oh, I th. Oh, I th. And I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I th. And I I I I I I's a th. And I's a th. And I's a th. And I's a th. And I's a th. And I's a th. And I's a th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. the. tha. tha. tha' the. the. tha. the thoooooooo. And then I so good. She's great. First time I watched this movie on a big TV,
you know, like one of them high deaf televisions the kids are into,
being able to see her body makeup, like,
gross vomit city, man.
It's so, it's so.
It's so narly.
It's so good, yeah.
And the twins, can we terrified of British ghost children.
Someone to be that with me for Halloween.
It would be such a good costume.
That would be a fantastic costume.
Thank you.
I actually had to make the note Jack is a shitty husband and father.
In case you would forget that, he's fine. I'm doing the best you can. Right below that is, I don't think Wendy is as shit as everybody says.
I don't think she's shit either.
I just think that the character is so...
The world has crushed this woman's dreams.
But she's so one-dimensional.
I know you're saying that you feel at the end yeah she's right there like right but yeah I don't know. Also can we discuss possible nicknames for the
frozen Jack Nicholson? Oh tell me some. Jack Nickle pop. Like it. Yeah and
Frozen Jackaquel. Love that a lot. That's all I got. Speaking of frozen I read an interesting thing on the internet. I've not seen the movie Frozen. Let it go let it go. Let it go. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. that's that's that. that's that's that's that's that's that's that. That was good.
Actually, that was awfully, no, that was nice.
I had to sing it with a four-year-old.
It was really into that movie.
That's adorable.
Sing it again?
Let it go.
Let it go.
Let it go. You get into the arm. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was not not not not a a that. I was not not not a that. I was not a that. I was not not. I was actually. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was, really do. I'm not being sarcastic. Anyway, I read on the internet that frozen is just the shining. What? I don't know. I've never seen it. Something about
the main character having a power over their family that makes them nervous and they're
a danger to their family and they live in a frozen wasteland and there was a bunch of other stuff too. Just Google it. Titty lady lady who comes out of the the bathtub. the bathtub. the their their their their their their their their their th. thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I's thi. I's thi. It's thi. It's thi. There is that titty lady who comes out of the bathtub and frozen and wipes your titties all
scabby all over the place.
Oh God, you shook why you said it!
How else do you say wiped their titties?
Oh, also, dear 1980 and dear Stanley Kubrick, didtwice wasn't enough. You gotta throw it in there once again.
Thanks, buddy.
Oh yeah, Elsa, this woman that is like the love
of six-year girls everywhere is Jack Torrance.
In both films, the menacing main character
is a danger to family members whose volatility increases
after a long isolation inside a giant,
high-ceeling building in in a cold desolate landscape. Anna and Frozen is just
like Danny in the Shining, an innocent protagonist touched by the
supernatural forced to play childlike games alone and incongruously cavernous
hallways. Snowman Olaf serves the same purpose as Wendy
Torrance in the Shining, a somewhat goofy supporting character who knows our principal, somewhat goofy supporting
character who knows our principal characters better than anyone and will
sacrifice anything to protect innocent protagonist from danger. Oh that's
hilarious. In Frozen, Christoph is just like the shining's hollering, the
snowsuit-clad rescuer whose personal experience of the supernatural bonds
to the character in danger. Let it go, let it go.
One more?
This makes Frizen's duplicitous Hans,
the equivalent of the shining sinister Grady,
both refined but evil with a fateful role to play
in unleashing the main character's destructive impulses.
Oh, so weird.
I haven't seen it.
Is it good?
Frozen? I never seen him a god-dabid adult. Oh, you were laughing like you understood what I was just saying.
I know the, again, it was hanging out with a four-year-old so I know the premise of the film.
Is that lining up for you then?
Yeah, no, it makes perfect sense. That's insane. Yeah, see? There's a conspiracy theory you can get behind. I have two notes, Indian Barrow Growns, the bane the bane the bane the bane thianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianianiann, the thiann, thiann, thiann, thiann, thiann, thiann, thiann, the bane of white people? Magical Black Man, the boon to white people.
Yeah, I know that the character in the book was black.
Actually, originally the part was offered to your boy Slim Pickens.
Oh, I love Slim Pickens.
Who had been in Dr. Strange Love and found it grueling to work for Kubrick,
and so I always forget the strange love Dr. Stranglund. Oh, so then the the the the the the they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. got Scatman Carothers but he's definitely the magical Negro. Yeah in that's
and we're not trying to be racist here. That's a real thing. It's a real term.
Look it up. Get off the TV. Get on the internet. Get on the internet. I think this is the movie that also sort of started the trendidtree the idea idea the tree tree the tree tree the trend of trend of the trend of trend of the trend of trend of the tre tre tre true true the true of of of of of of of of of of of of of the of ofy. People often attribute Poultargeist to being an Indian...
No, it's just a regular old cemetery that they just moved all the heads to us.
Oh yeah, you're right.
But people think it's an Indian burial ground.
And I think the shining being so indelibly imprinted on people's minds that they just
were like burial ground. Indian burial ground. It's also just we have that long history of ruining them, you know.
Sure.
Yeah, which is terrible.
But then I was reading an article about like the history of Indian burial grounds
in horror movies.
It went into like, listen, this doesn't match up with Native Americans and they're
like multitudinal ways they dealt with their dead. Like there aren't Indian burial grounds. In a cemetery, yeah.
So like it's just a crazy white people thing
that like kind of like just plays on their white guilt of.
And it's practically a throwaway line in this movie too.
All they really say about Indians is that it was built on Indian burial ground. And that they had to fend off a couple Indian attacks when they were they were they were. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway.
Elbow, elbow.
Have fun murdering your wife and child.
Also, one of the conspiracy theories is that this movie's about the Holocaust.
You read that one?
No.
Because much of the film's soundtrack is like post-war compositions inspired by the horrors of World War II?. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. translates as Eagle. All right, the the typewriter being German is a bit of a
stretch everybody. Yeah, they made a lot of, they made a lot of important things. There's a number 42, plays a prominent role in the movie, apparently. the thirty- 42. The license plate of Howlern's rental car is the number 42.
There are 42 cars in the parking lot.
Someone fucking counted them.
Or they're just telling you that knowing that no one else will count it.
If you multiply the numerals of room 237, two times three, Wendy and Danny watched the summer 42 on TV, and in 1942
was one of the Nazis put the final solution into place, so obviously Holocaust.
Ha ha ha ha.
This is her company podcast.
And Nazis and Minotars.
They think it's about Minutars too.
I don't know what the fuck these people are thinking.
What are you talking about? Minutars aren't a thing that this could be about because they're not a real thing.
Yes. It is. There's a skiing poster in the hotel that apparently resembles a minotar. That's what they say in Room 237, the documentary. And the fact that I guess that I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I guess I guess I guess I guess I guess I guess I guess I guess I guess I guess that I guess that I guess that I guess that I guess that I guess that Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack Nicholson. Oh, I know.
Oh, yeah, it is a lot of German post-war stuff.
But come on.
That explains why I thought that it had a Wagner bent at the beginning of him.
Some people think it's about CIA.
What? Yeah.
Let me tell you about this one. about Minotars, also has the word monarch on it, which was a widely rumored code name for a CIA program called MK Ultra, in which it was like sort of behavioral engineering.
We know where they gave you an LSD.
And the Overlook Hotel represents the CIA and is giving Jack Torrens LSD basically.
Can you guys hear my face right now? You should see it.
It's indignant, if nothing else.
Everybody who believes in these conspiracy theories, I do not want to hear about them.
Don't tell me about them.
Don't tell me what you think about this.
I don't want it.
Please keep your crazy town to yourself.
The only thing I really wanted to touch upon was, upon was, don't read Catcher in the Rise as an adult.
If you didn't hit that shit when you were 15, leave it be.
It's not going to mean as much to you, you know?
No, you're just going to look at Holden Calfield as a real pain in the ass.
I have not read it since I have to try and have to grab that kid by the ear and tell him to stop doing shit. Did you read it when you were younger?
No, I didn't.
So you never had the like romanticized notion of holding coffee on.
Not at all.
I don't want that to go away and I know it will because he's probably just a selfish dildo.
Yeah, he's a deal.
Yeah, he was. I like a Sad Times book. And Stephen King. Oh, and so much, Stephen King.
I chomped.
Stephen King for when I was a kid, was like, if you read the stand, you read 1,500 pages?
It was like you fucking, you did a thing.
It's an accomplishment.
It really is.
I mean, I, if I were being honest here, the only Stephen King, actual, full novel novel, every couple short stories is it. Yeah. And it is not that good. It's pretty bad. I loved it when I was a kid.
Probably because it's all the sexy scenes. Yeah, oh yeah, no, no, it's totally like 13 year old
boy bone or material. I mean it's like written at like a seventh grade level.
Yeah. Well, I think that's probably in seventh grade when I read it. Yeah. Just got it out the library like, hey, this is what I'm doing now. And I still, I mean, I wear my Stephen King rules t-shirt with pride, because I think he does rule.
I know you do. I know you do. Yeah. Monster Squad. Yeah, monster squad. I love that movie. It's great.
We always talk about how much we love that movie. It drop song on my running mix for a while.
Dance until your feet fall off.
Well, during the, like I was running the last leg of the Pittsburgh Marathon, and the, that
song came on and it was like about your heart stopping and your legs falling off and your
brain's falling on.
I was like, I can't do this, oh my god.
Do you think we're ready to move on to the ratings phase of this? Sure. Do you want to go first? Sure.
This movie is a 10, but I'm giving it a 9.
Wow.
Because it's 2 hours and 24 minutes long.
So right about that.
It's fantastic.
But like, I've fallen asleep during this movie so many times watching it.
In your parlance, I gotta ding it for the length. Gotta ding it. It's a 10 in like, if someone is a horror fan
and they have not seen it, you're fucking up.
You're doing it wrong.
Like, you gotta get, get in there.
Get in there.
Make this happen.
I don't think anyone's a horror fan
and hasn't seen this.
Yeah.
I mean, sure, it? It's like I have a friend who loves hard movies who's never seen the Omen, and I'm just like,
what are you doing?
Step your game up.
Yeah, I've seen both of them, even though it's Julia Stiles.
I don't know who that is, but all right.
She was, uh, when they remade it, you know?
She's 10 things I hate about you. But yeah, this movie is, it's so unbelievably well shot. Like just, I mean, it's fucking gorgeous and like, Jack Nicholson is amazing in it, even
without, even with the foible of not being likable at any point in the movie.
Like you never identify with his character.
Yeah, it seems like that was a choice. Someone's choice, his or Kubrick's.
They're just out of the gate. the most identifiable character is Skatman Crowthertherther so, like, like, th, like, the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi, thi, like, they, they. the fi, the fjjjjjjou-I I the fi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, they-s, they-s, they-s, they-s, theyb-s, theyb-a, theyb-s.. Yeah, theyb-a, theyb-a, they-s. Yeah, like, like For me, like the most identifiable character is Skatman Crothers. That's the dude I want to be. That's the dude like, he's a total hutch.
He's like, I got a situation, come help me.
And he's like, oh, definitely, man.
He drives five hours on icy roads.
Fuck no.
I hate driving on ice.
No.
I won't even go to like the gas station. That's who that was! That's who that was! Cut me! Cut me!
Oh, that guy's in like every Rocky movie team.
Just totally like, you don't even know his name, he's Rocky's Corner Man.
Yeah. That's great.
Yeah, so awesome. I was so stoked that he spreads with Rocky's Corner Man.
I'm giving it a nine out of ten. Yeah.
It's your choice. Yeah. Pap needs a shorter film sometimes. It just occurred to me when you mentioned the Omen, that was like a really an era of like bad kids, the Omen and Rosemary's baby.
And it's interesting, Danny is like the one of the psychic behavior, but he's not the bad guy.
You know what I mean? It kind of seems like in that era you would have expected him to be the bad guy. I wonder if that's like that's like the the the that's that's that's the that's like Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. Danny. In that's like, in that's like, in that's like, in that's like, in th. Danny. Danny, in th. Danny, in th. In th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the era, the era, the era, the era, the era, the era, the era, the era, the era, the era, the era, the the the the the the the the the the thi. the thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to. to. to. to. to. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. to be the bad guy. I wonder if that's like the, you know, this is 1980.
Those were 1970s.
Like 1980's got Danny and then we go into fire starter,
who's got the psychic abilities, but she's just unleashing them
when like people are being like shitty to her and like.
Same with Carrie.
Yeah, yeah.
So like that's Stephen King. Oh yeah, I guess he other with the, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, th, th. th. th, th, th, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi. the. thi. th. the. thi. thi. the. thi. thi. thi. the. th. th. all old Stephen King things. Oh, were you not? I wasn't putting that together.
No, yeah.
I mean, I guess he other with the, I guess, with children of the corn, they're bad guys, the kids
are bad guys.
But otherwise, they're always just like put upon children who have terrible things
happen to them.
I guess in it, they're just all put it on. Oh, it's so good. And Tim Curry, who's always magic, in my mind and in my heart.
Can we do children with corn at some point?
Sure.
I sort of love that movie.
Yeah, so do I.
I would love to talk about it.
I would also, I agree with you.
I'm going to to be a movie, I'm going to be aterrifying movie I've ever seen. It sticks with me so hard and even just now talking about it, like when I think about
that scene of Grady and Jack in the red bathroom and it's just so silent and so measured
and so scary.
And he says like, corrected.
Ooh, I just did it again.
Look, you've got fucking goosebumps.
It scares me.
And this movie has always scared me, and then I th is is is is is is is th is th is th is th is th is th is thi thi thi thi thi thi this movie has always scared me, will always scare me. And I think that's very rare to find something that you've seen so many times and you're still like,
mmm, and then you don't want to turn the lights out.
But again, two and a half hours, although that seems like a picnic compared to the four
and a half hour Brian from Wingsburg, and at all. Obviously a lot of this isn't sort of canon with the book, but it's super not canon.
No, that's all Kubrick, man.
Two did not like ladies.
I am.
Not a fan.
So for that I'm giving it a nine and a half, but don't you're a nine and a half, but
the fucking long.
Yeah.
Come on, Cooper, cut it back.
Oh, I'm sorry.
He's dead.
He's dead.
He's dead.
The Illuminati killed him. To Katie, what are we doing next week?
Next week we're doing another classic actually.
We're going to be joined by our friend Perry.
Guest a stowed.
Guest us, number 55.
To talk about the 1991?
Yeah, 1991.
Movie Silence with Lambs.
Yeah.
It's on Netflix.
Get on there and watch it.
This is another movie, like, I'm sure you've fucking seen it. And if you haven't, why are
you listening? Hang up the phone? Watch it before we talk about it because you know we're going to
spoil the shit out of that thing. Remember how we just ruined this? We're going to ruin that one too. Not ruined. Ruin the surprise. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thuuice. thuice. thuice. thuice. the the the thuice. thoen thuuuu the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. the surprise. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. thea. toea. toea. toea. toea. toea. thea. thea. thea. the this after Halloween. I know, post Halloween.
Oh.
Yeah, I know.
You just have to eat all the candy that the kids didn't come and get from your house.
How can I keep that Halloween spirit going all year long?
Guys, this is crazy.
Someone's giving us money thing that you can check out from Cryptocurium. It's called a Parcel of Terror and it works like a lot of other sort of mail order boxes
where you sign up and you get a box every month and you can get it all from this parcel
of terror at Cryptocurium.
Yeah, he does. It's all handcrafted.
Jason makes all this stuff by hand.
And I've gotten in the past the stuffed marshmallow man statue from him and it was so beautiful and a little slimer magnet they're so awesome. So it's all kinds of stuff it's
