Well, I know this was not Stephen King's favorite rendition of it, but his favorite rendition is four and a half hours long, the Brian from Wings version. Terribly acted. You know, like, there's this one scene where Brian from Wings is drinking at the bar,

but then he has to fly a plane to the Antucket and his responsible older brother Joe comes in. No? And Helen's like, I used to be fat. I read up on some of the stuff that Stephen King doesn't like about the Kubrick version. Because I think, you know, spoiler, cubic version is a fucking classic. It's an amazing movie. that King has supposedly said, Jack Nicholson doesn't as the character because, as he comes out of the gate as a fucking raging asshole. Yeah. Brian from Wings doesn't. Oh really? I skimmed it because it's four and a half hours. But it seemed like a loving father who was starting to crack up. Yeah. As opposed to a bonkers dude.

Everything is as opposed to the joker. Every scene, like in the beginning when he's got the job interview, and every answer seems like, oh, I'm a fucking asshole. I'm going to tell you this because I'm a fucking asshole. Yeah. And I have to wonder if, you know, going back and watching this movie, because this is a movie that I own, I've watched a number of times and like, you know, putting the disc in and as soon as the helicopter shot shot, and the shot shot shot shot shot shot in and as the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the disc in and as soon as the helicopter shot start, I'm tense. Like my tension, my tensometer is just through the roof.

Yeah. And it stays that way for the full, full run of this thing, except when you do you doze off halfway in the throw it, but. You don't need to see that part though, because you get the chest. I have very fond memories of a fairy tale theater from my childhood.

Don't know what that is, but I like that you like. It was like a renditions of fairy tales done for kids but they were like a little bit weird and Shelley Duval was the host oh nice and she was in a couple of them like they would be then acted out and she narrated a lot of them too I think she also produced them I think she was like it was her project but it was great I like her she's great I'm this fucking movie.'s directed. Sure, Kubrick, not a fan of the ladies. It's just really, I just, ah, to compare and contrast, Rebecca de Mournay, in the Brian from Wings version,

is like kind of a hard ass, or she's always holding her own. She's like, no, this shit's crazy. You can't just keep being an asshole, this shit is crazy. Shelly Duval is like, I don't know, I didn't go over there, I'm Danny. Yeah. I can't with that. I think by the end of the movie, she has like, she's gotten a spine and she's standing up to Jack. When she's like forcing Danny out the window and, you know, she's still flailing and being ineffectual. But I would be too. I feel like you can run better than that.

I feel like you're just a little more coordinated that you know not to let your wrists flop because it's not aerodynamic. She does knock up the fuck out though, baseball bat. Oh yeah. That scene where she is swinging the bat and him going up the stairs, 127 takes. Oh really? Yeah, it's the apparently the world record holder for the most takes of any scene in which there's spoken dialogue. Maybe she just hadn't choked up so far on that bat. No, I think it seems like Stanley Kubrick was just super hard on her.

Yeah. Did you watch the Making of Documentary that's on the DVD? Did not. There's a, they've got a shot of, before the act scene where he's going at the door while she's in the bathroom. They're showing Jack Nicholson like getting himself hyped before he, like before they call action and it's just like, it's so upsetting to watch him like revving himself up to get. What's he doing? And if I were to see that in waking life, and not a movie form if I'm walking down a hallway, and I see that scene, I'm done. I'm just going to explode right there. Really. I'm done. No, I mean, first of all, he's wearing like those kid pajamas where the butt flap is open? I don't think that's what that is. That's your first impression is you see like just a bare ass hanging out of this like pajamas. And then when he leans up and you

see the mall on this thing, it's like in this weird X format for the mouth and you can tell that it can't move so he's not giving anybody a blowjob, it just has his head in some dude's lap. What's he doing? I don't know. I read a bunch of like, so there's a ton of conspiracy theories around this movie. Yeah, I was just googling what, because I read a lot of them, but I didn't know what the bear was doing. So I was like reading up on what people thought the bear was doing.

And here's something you guys could be thinking about and focusing all your energy on rather than whether or not 9-11 was an inside job and whether or not this proves the moon landing didn't happen. And allegedly, the Illuminati was so upset by this, they killed him and made it look like a heart attack. Because they're magicians? And because he used triangles. I'll dare you, that's our shape. I think of the movies we've discussed so far in this podcast,

this is the first truly terrifying one. Probably the only truly terrifying one. Nothing scares me like this movie, but I want. And I've seen this movie like a hundred fucking times. I'm still scared every time. It's so tense. that I have two hours and 24 minutes of a movie or... You get that nappy in the middle. Can I wake up for the bear scene? Gotta wake up for the bear scene? Ooh. And then there was like a theatrical cut that was shorter than the one that I watched on digital, versatile disc. Yeah. was the mysterious Howard Hughes' owner of the overlook. And the apparition of the guy in the dog suit chased Danny around at one point and mentioned that he would huff and puff until Harry Derwent's all blown down. Also in the Brian from Wings version do you want me to stop talking about it because I'll talk please please? I only promised the fence like I really only watched probably in total about 40 minutes of it I'll probably watch the whole thing at some point but there was a scene with a man and a dog mask chasing Danny around. And I was like, this is very weird. I think just seeing it like that is way more upsetting than I'm chasing him around. Yeah, it was not scary at all when he was chasing. I mean nothing in this movie, nothing in the miniseries.

Oh, really? Yeah. He did walk in while I was watching the scene of Stephen King dancing on stage. Yeah. This is real, this is real real talk. This movie for the domestic issues are super upsetting to me because it's just like it's a little too close to home a lot of the time. I hope you didn't do. As a child, there was one set of things that scared me in this movie and it was the ghosty supernatural stuff.
