Starting point is 00:00:00 Alan. Katie, I mean, we have to stop. I mean, treaty. We have to stop doing this. We have to stop jumping in in the mid to end of a series. The thing I was going to say is we have to start checking the time stamp on how long a movie is before we agree to do it. I know. I thought it was like maybe 2.15. Is 2 hours and 45 minutes the longest movie we've done to date? I think so. I think it's just tips. No idea how long Titanic is thi thi thi thi th th th th th th th th th to the to to to ti to ti to to to ti to ti to to to to ti to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to say to to say to say to say to say to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to to to to the the the the the to the the the the the the the the the ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. thea. ti. thi. thi. thi. thi. I is thi. done to date. I think so. I think it's just tips. No idea how long Titanic is but I don't think it's that long. I don't think so. And if so we did such a bad job of covering it that it doesn't matter. I know we've dedicated at least a full 90 minutes to that
Starting point is 00:00:57 right almost two hours probably. Yeah, uh-huh. good for us. Great job, idiots. Two hours and 45 minutes, you've had three movies to tell this god-dam story. You know what I'm saying? I didn't see the first two. But I assume there were scenes in them. Like, why is this so long? It is funny because the first one is like two hours and 30. And then this one is like, I can't stop, won't stop, I just gotta keep making a movie. There are just, there's just so much in this movie.
Starting point is 00:01:31 But it goes by in a good clip, it goes and goes and goes. It does, but they're all, okay, well yeah, we'll start about this movie. We're talking about 2012s, the Dark Night Rises, Christopher Nolan's final installment in his Dark Night Trilogy. Selected as our Pittsburgh filmed options for this podcast by you, our top two Patrons, Patrones, as they're commonly known. Yeah, thank you for picking this. I guess I would have like to have done striking distance. Katie, I have a revelation before we get going.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Okay. I took zero notes for this. Really? I thought about it, but then there were just I was confused by a lot of things and felt that I should notate them. So I, I, full disclosure, this movie and it's two, the two movies before it were watching for me when I was at a really low point in my life I would watch all three of these movies back-to-back. Good Lord that sounds dark. Yeah, bleak as fuck, but I was in a bleak as fuck place so it was like comfort bleakness. So I feel like I'm really well versed in this movie and now I'm saying that and we'll misremember almost all of it. Okay, well don't worry.
Starting point is 00:02:48 I saw it once and haven't seen the first two so I know basically all of it. I mean a few minutes in I was like, oh really ought to have seen the first two, huh? Yeah, but they do. He does a decent job of like, oh by the way this happened and this guy's is is this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this guy's this is is this is this is this is this guy's this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is the the the the the the the the their is the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the this. the this. this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is thus. thus. thus. I is thus. I is thi. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. thi. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's the the way, this happened, and this guy's this guy? So just so you know. I think by the end I had it all down except for who Silly and Murphy and I'm going to call him, oh I'm sorry, Silly and Kermurfey. I know he's supposed to be Scarecrow, but he only has like three lines in this movie and is never actually Scarecrow? He's much more prominent in the previous two. Well, he's the main villain in the first one. He's a little bit in the second one, and then this one he just has his cameo as the judge. Gotcha.
Starting point is 00:03:33 A quick question about him. Beautiful cheekbugs. Oh, I mean, not about Killian Murphy, though. Uh-huh. Is he Canadian? Not that I know of, why? Because that is the accent that Killian Murphy is doing. I think he sounds like a letter Kenny. Ferda. To be fair. To be fair. These are jokes that other people are rather funnier than ours. I think that's just that thing of like, well, this is as close as I'm going to get. I'm going to get to a territory, a former colony, but, hmm.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Yeah. It's the continent. The correct continent. He got to North America and stopped. He's like, is that a Nova Scot sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk sk. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be, to be, to be, to be to be to be th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to be th. to be to be thi, to be to be thi, to be to be the. to be fair, to be fair, to be fair, to be fair, to be fair, to be to be to be to be to be to be to be the. the. that an Nova Scotia? With the maritime provinces. Oh, he's so handsome though. Hmm. Oh, God, I wanted more of him. Sure.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Honestly, for me, Christian Bale's not doing it. Oh, no, no, he's the weakest thing in this movie. He also, I just, he's American psycho to me, and so I will never want to find him attractive Okay, okay. Yeah, yeah It's also fun because Batman is just another villain in this movie. I don't understand about Batman. I don't understand about what Batman's deal. Can you like give me a quick like here's what I know about Batman? I've seen the Michael Keaton first one. Okay. A Brazilian times. Okay. And I've seen a number of Adam Wettettett? yeah? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi. Yeah, yeah the Michael Keaton first one, a Brazilian times.
Starting point is 00:05:07 And I've seen a number of Adam West episodes. Sure. The end? I've seen like a bunch of the one where he's got nipples. You know what I'm talking about? Is that the George Clooney one? I think maybe. George Clooney one? I think maybe. George Clooney and Chris O'Donnell? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:29 So I'm surprised you haven't seen the second of the Tim Burton movies, which is Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman and Danny DeVito as the Penguin? I'm aware of it and I love Seal, which I think is the song from that movie, right? Kiss from a Rose? Yes, yeah, the first movie was Bat Dance, which is Goddam Perfection by Prince. I also think Kiss from a Rose is a perfect song. Sure.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Uh-huh. Baby! I have seen of that. OK. Quickly, Batman is a vigilante superhero who lost his parents to a mugging outside of an opera where they believe they were seeing deflator mouse And which I'm sure I'm mispronouncing and just pronouncing it as the deflator mouse character from the tick cartoon So he is a billionaire who uses his money character from the tick cartoon. So he is a
Starting point is 00:06:26 billionaire who uses his money to purge the city of Gotham of crime. But he doesn't have superpowers, he just has gadgets, correct? Correct, and a lot, a lot of money. And like agility and strength. Right, he is trained in all sorts of martial arts and all that jazz to be the ultimate fighting weapon against crime. and he's thi. And he's super smart. And to to to to to to to to to to to to thi thi thi thi thi the the thi thi thi thi the thi thi thi thi the thi the thi thi the the thi thi thi thi their thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi their their their their their their their their their their their their th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi their their their their their thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th arts and all that jazz to be the ultimate fighting weapon against crime. And he's super smart. Super smart. And then what happens in the first two movies?
Starting point is 00:06:55 So the first movie is the origin story basically of Batman, of his parents dying and him training under this guy named Rozal Ghoul, who you might remember is referenced a lot in this, who is played by Liam Neeson? Liam Neeson. Okay, when Liam Neeson showed up, I was like, the fuck are you? I'm a ghost. Why do you have such a bad haircut too? You're better than that, Liam Nye. Even worse that facial hair, that weird gotee that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. that's that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's thatthan that, Liam Neeson. And I know it and you know it. Even worse, that facial hair, that weird goatee that he's got going on.
Starting point is 00:07:26 He looks terrible. But he, so he's the bad guy on that where he's trying to destroy Gotham because it's an evil place that needs to be blown up and he is vigilante justice personified. So Batman has to fight against him. And there's there's there's th th then then thus tha th. th. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's toau. toa'a'a' is toa'eateateat. to fight against him. And there's this whole thing with Linus Roach plays Batman's dad and who you might remember. I love Linus which from from Law and Order of course. And from Mandy. Oh right. He designed this crazy like a monorail system for Gotham that was going to be free to the
Starting point is 00:08:05 poor and all the do all these really equitable things for people and it gets blown up and all this shit. The second one is the the the second one is the the theater. Gotcha. I feel like I should see that just to see him be the joker. Yeah I mean so the first one is very much a comic book movie and that just to see him be the Joker. Yeah, I mean, so the first one is very much a comic book movie, and that second one feels like an ode to 70 cinema as a comic book movie. Cool. It's really well done and Heath Ledger is a fucking force of nature in that movie.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Like, he is unreal. Gone too soon. For sure. He was supposed to be the bad guy in this movie that we're doing today, but out of respect for him, they would not recast the Joker. Appreciate it, I guess. What is the third movie supposed to be then? It's a, other than a love letter to Pittsburgh? A love letter to Pittsburgh slash Nottingham, England, slash India. Yeah. It's just the culmination of the Batman story as him as the anti-hero who saves the city, I guess. Okay. And they, they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, the the the, the the, the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the, the, the, the, the, thi, the, their, their, their, thi, thi, the, the. theat, theat, theat, theat, theat, thi. theat, thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the culmination of the Batman story as him as the anti-hero who saves the city, I guess. Okay. And they chose Bain because Bain is this truly evil, terrifying character. Okay, a couple things. Yeah. Yeah. I think a thing that I have a problem with,
Starting point is 00:09:19 and this is just purely due to lack of exposure to comic books, comic book movies, and the comic book universe. I have such a hard time. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thine, thine, thine, thine, the thine, the thine, the the the thine the the the thane, the the the the. And th-bane, the. And the. And the. And the. And the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thane, the thane, thane, thane, thane, the, the. And the. And the. And the., comic book movies, and the comic book universe, I have such a hard time with like this weird realism of like, Bain is a man, but he's pure evil and he has this weird, he has this mask that he needs to live, and like everyone just accepts Bain as being like, you know what I mean? Like, it's, it's almost magical realism, like, it's like, it's like, it's, it's like, like, like, like, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, like, like, this, this, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this like everyone just accepts Bain as being like, you know what I mean? Like, it's almost a magical realism where like I don't, I have a hard time putting this in,
Starting point is 00:09:53 we're cops, like cops who, you know, in real life and in horror movies where I spend most of my time, real life and horror movies. Don't believe a goddamn word that a person saying, like, that trying to kill you and in this the cops are like yeah Bain, Bain's a bad guy, he's a super villain. And you're like what? Well at this point he is in a long line of super villains. A guy dressed like a clown was just here a couple years ago and... Why does anyone fucking live in Gotham? They never show you like oh this is the the the c the c the c the cool the cool the cool the cool the cool th. th. the cool th. th. the cool th. th. the cool th. the cool th. th. th. th. the cool th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the th. th. the the the th. the the the the the the th. the the th. the the the th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. show you like, oh, this is the cool stuff that's going on in Gotham. It's just like, oh, this is the seedy underbelly of everything and everything is awful.
Starting point is 00:10:33 It's either ced underbelly or extremely high class. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. And how both of them are equal and terrible. Yeah. Although I would like to be rich enough to be invited to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be rich enough to be invited to a masquerade ball. I think that is something I would very much enjoy because I would get super drunk and just be peeping under people's masks.
Starting point is 00:10:52 I would just assume that it would turn into an eyes wide shot party, whatever that is having not seen. The movie. I know, but we know what it is and I think they fuck. I can't know, but I know, but busted out and me decided to be like, oh God, and slinking out of the room. No, no, no, no. Looking at your watch, like, woo boy. A couple other things about Bain. Yeah. Tom Hardy looks fucking insane in this movie. Yeah. He looks like a fucking pro wrestler. I love that he's not like, he's got a little bit of a gut. He's not like, like super hyper superhero ripped. He's just like a big
Starting point is 00:11:33 fucking dude. Yeah, he's jacked, not ripped. Yeah, yeah, yeah, because he's got those muscles, the ones are right next to your neck. Yeah, Alan, your trapezius muscles for those of you who can't see Alan right now. They can hear me. But he really looks like a pro-resser, he looks like cane or something. I think, I want to say Vader played Bain in another one of these movies. Vader, he's dead. Is he?
Starting point is 00:12:00 Yeah. Oh, I didn't realize Vader was dead. Yeah. RIP Vader. Look, they're all dead. If you remember the melon, I can garen, God damn to you, they're dead. No way, Mick Foll is still alive. Okay, that's fair, and so it's Hulk again. One more thing about Bain. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:15 When he is talking at the beginning, is he doing like a fake to fool somebody. I mean he sounds like celebrity Jeopardy Sean Connery from S&L. He a hundred percent does. He apparently based that voice on this boxer from England who had this like weird accent and so he was like, oh I'll just do this the whole time. Sounds like Sean Connery. But not really Sean Connery, fake Sean Connery. For sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What I like about it is two-fold. It's hilarious to do. Oh, yes. And second, if some guy put his hand on your shoulder and said, do you feel in control, you would probably shit yourself because this man is a lunatic. 100, anytime a man puts his hand on your shoulder and says,
Starting point is 00:13:08 do you feel in control, your instinct should be to kick him right in the nards. That is, the fact that his hand is like, not not, not palms, but like the bottom flat part of your hand just resting on the man's shoulder, and it's the most intimidating thing that happens in the movie, it's not like he doesn't grab grab the the the the the the the the thi thi thi thi thi b blah, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, the thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin. thin. thooooooooooooooooooooomthe most intimidating thing that happens in the movie. It's not like he doesn't grab him by the throat, it doesn't pick him up. Blah. It's so good. Bain is a bad guy, until he isn't, wah! I also want to give proppers to Tom Hardy for acting with that metal tarantula on his face through the entire movie.
Starting point is 00:13:42 I felt so bad for him wearing that. Like, he cannot emote other than his eyebrows. That's all you can see. Yeah, but he still pulls it off. He did it. I don't know how. He's very scary. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:13:55 And you know he's handsome under the mask. You just know how handsome he is. Tom Hardy. Oh yeah, big big crush on Tom Hardy. Big Hardiemen over there. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Well, this movie at the very, very beginning has a plane dragging another plane, which is some very fast in the Furious shit, plane and a little plane. Christopher Nolan has a love of practical effects. Like in the last, in the Joker, the one before this, the dark night, they flipped a Mac truck in Center City, Philadelphia. Oh wow. Like, the entire trailer went S-over T-Kettle.
Starting point is 00:14:30 And like, did he really rip that plane apart? Because it looks real. I mean, the amount of money that this movie made over a billion. Jesus. I mean, I don't think they had grossed that, but the box, but, the box, the box, the box, the, the, the, tho, th, th, th, th, th, th, the, tho, th, the, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, their, their, thoom, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, they. And, they. And, they. And, they.. And, like, like, they. they. they. tho, like, like, like, t. together, together, together, together, together, together, together, together, together, together, together, together, together, together, together, think it grossed that, the box office was over a billion. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So like, I'm sure they were like, fuck it, rip a plane apart to do this, you know? I mean, the fact of that the castle or the mansion where Bruce Wayne lives is in England, and nothing else in this movie is shot in England, and just like, whatever, yeah, we'll fly you over there, do some some some some some some some go about our business. I thought you were going to tell me that that was Christopher Nolan's house. Have you seen any other Christopher Nolan movies?
Starting point is 00:15:12 What else might I have seen? Inception. I watched like half of that. And then I was like, why am I doing this and And I went home. Were you in a movie theater? No, I was at somebody's house. I still walked out, though, didn't I? And as for your money back. Threw up all the popcorn I'd eaten and said, that's for you.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Memento. No. Dunkirk? No. This is Dunkirk? No. This is a fun quiz. The Batman movies. Yeah, I saw this one. I was just curious as he was like, he is a very specific director that people seem to
Starting point is 00:15:55 either love or hate. So, I mean, honestly, I didn't feel either way about this film. Okay. Yeah. But I love that, that opening of just like like that plane being ripped apart and that guy who is the mayor and the wire, as you might remember him. I've never seen the wire. The CIA guy just being like a total dupist and like, yeah, yeah, I won't take the bags off
Starting point is 00:16:17 these guys' heads until they're on the plane and I see who they are. How did you get that far in your th But that's a very tense scene. That's a pretty amazing sequence, I think. Yeah, the third guy, I like that it's also the third guy is Bain. It's a very like, well, that could have gone less dramatically. He probably wonders why you're going to shoot a man before you throw him out of a plane. Pipe down Celebrity Jeopardy, Sean Connery. Fuck you, Trebek. I will take an or bum, come off. I hope that he did all of this on set in between takes. So this sets up that Bain is this mastermind criminal who's able to pull off this insane plane
Starting point is 00:17:15 ripping apart replacing one man's blood with another man's blood. Can you just quickly fill me in on that? So I guess they just want a DNA from that Russian doctor guy on the plane when they went through the wreckage. So, okay. But it was also like, you're already bringing one body on board, why can't you bring another body on board to replace that guy that is your higherling that you just killed? Right, and the guy loves it. This is how young men get radicalized, I guess. They follow in the footsteps of Bain. He like, he's like, I'd love to die for this cause. Fuck that.
Starting point is 00:17:53 I do appreciate all like the insane fanaticism of the, the terrorist group, I guess. Yeah, the Army of Bain. It's so fun. Like, this movie thiiiiiiiiiiiiii th, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi, like, thi, thi, like, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thist group I guess. Yeah, the Army of Bain. It's so fun, like this movie got latched onto by every side seemingly in the American culture war. Oh. Like the alt-right is very big on Bain, it seems. Come on. Clearly the bad guy. Do you not see that? Do you guys not get that? Okay, carry on. But, and also there's like, people were saying that Trump's inaugural speech was very similar
Starting point is 00:18:32 to the speech that Bain gives when he like is in the stadium. Oh my god. That's Batchett. And how, but Trump was like, he really thought this was a great movie when he saw it in 2012, so it's not beyond like Rome's that he would be like, you're framing one of them, Bain speeches. That speech is horrifying. I guess they were both horrifying. Yeah, you don't know what it was for sure. But also, uh, Rest in Piss, Rush Limbaugh said that because the character was name was Bain and at the time
Starting point is 00:19:08 Mitt Romney was running for president and his company was Bain Capital that they were making fun of Written Romney or something. Look, I don't like to dance on anyone's grave. I don't think that's a good look, but look at me go. I'm spinning and tirling. Fuck you, Rush Limbaugh. Let me get my tap shoes on for this one. May you rot in hell forever. Yeah. I'm not sure about some after life, but if there is one, that man is in hell. For sure. All right. For sure, without a doubt.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Okay. Okay. But, go on. Go on. Go on. No, no, no, please. I was saying, but uh, and then my mind went blank, so go on. I like to add that when we get to Harvey Dent's memorial, which seems to be like eight years after his passing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:02 They have the photo of him, but there's two photos of him, but they're the same photo. Like just one, just one photo of Harvey Dent, huh? Wasn't he actually two-face? So like, it's ironic that you only have one photo of him. One face. One face. Yeah. And the speech is being given by Gary Oldman, who looks like he's not sure what he's doing here? Just try to hold on to that the the the th that that that that the that that their that that their thi tho tho their to tho their to to to their to their to their to to to to to to to their the speech is being given by Gary Oldman who looks like he's not sure what he's doing here. Just try to hold on to that American accent as hard as he can.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Gary Oldman has the look of a drunk about him. You know what I mean? Like you look at that man and you're like, oh you're a drinker. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, especially in this giddy up that he's got with the hair and the mustache and all that jazz. Like he looks like David Spade or something. He looks very much like a relative of mine who would fit into everything we're describing right here. Sorry to Alan the real speech, but then decides not to.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Well, he was going to make Harvey Dent's death all about him. I realize that it was, but he's like, also, I'm resigning. Like, this, there's no photo of you here, Commissioner Gordon, don't make this event about you. Not everything is yours. But so, okay, so what I thenthat Harvey Dent was Tuface, which I think I already knew. And he had tried to kill the commissioner's son. So Batman killed Two-Face. And took the blame for that. Why, though? So the Commissioner Gordon could be super shitty and impose this
Starting point is 00:21:45 draconian law on mobsters in the city to shut crime down. He's also a bad cop. He's a bad dude. I guess I don't understand why Batman had to take the fall and then go into hiding. They just needed a martyr? Yeah, they needed a villain. All right. And Batman was the most likely villain, because Batman is always vilified by like the cops and the press, but loved by the people. Got it. Whatever. And there were rumors being spread around that Harvey Dent was Batman, so I guess they were trying to like, X-Nay on that and all that stuff, so. Gotcha. Mm-hmm. In this scene, we we we we we we we we we we we're th. th. th. th. th were trying to like, X-nae on that and all that stuff. Gotcha.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Mm-hmm. In this scene, we're also told that the commissioner's wife has left him and moved to Cleveland. Yeah. And I was like kind of glad that Cleveland exists in the Gotham universe, you know? But also, why the fuck wouldn't you move to Cleveland, you know? Cleveland is far superior to Gotham in terms of crime and weird characters. And insane overcrowding. Yes, yeah, very crowded. But this is also where we meet Selina Kyle. Uh-huh. You know, before this, I don't think I liked Anne Hathaway very much, and I actually liked her in this. I could say, I bet a lot of people didn't, but I did. I love her. As an actress, I th she I th she I th she I th she I th she I th I th I think th I think th I think th I think th I think thi I think thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. thi thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. to to to to to to to to to toeeeeeeea toea. toeea. toea. toea. toea. to to to to to the. and I actually liked her in this. I could say I bet a lot of people didn't but I did.
Starting point is 00:23:08 I love her as an actress I think she's great and I thought she was fantastic and ridiculous in this movie. She looks like she's having fun. And I want to know what her leg workout routine was for this movie because she is doing the most insane squats constantly. And in heels and she's so flexible. Yeah, when she like kicks a guy behind her back, like over her shoulder she kicks a dude. It was nuts. It was bonkers. She was the only, when this was filming in Pittsburgh, she was the only person I saw and she was walking down by the Oakland Library. And I was like, oh shit, this is it out of the way. Oh shit. I, um when they were filming this, I worked in this, I, th, I, I, I, th, th, I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, like, oh shit, does it out of the way? I, when they were filming this, I worked in just around the corner from the Mellon Institute, which is the building with the big pillars where they, I guess it's the jail. So I worked basically around the corner and behind that building
Starting point is 00:23:59 was the gym that I went to and I was cutting through the alleyway between my work building and the gym and I got like ambush like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the tho. through the alleyway between my work building and the gym and I got like ambushed by a bunch of people in SWAT team outfits and I fucking panicked for a second. And then I was like, oh no, no, they're actor, they're extras. Excuse us. They were like, whoa, hoop, put, thu. It was actually very annoying to work near that movie. Oh I can only imagine. You like weren't allowed to cross the god-dam street. Well I that's how I get to work. That's how I walk there. I remember I went downtown to meet somebody for drinks when that was all filming down there and it was just like oh just half the city is shut down
Starting point is 00:24:35 right now. You can't go anywhere. It's also like did you in the the final sequence where they're in the whatever that car car car car car car car car car car. that that that that that that that that the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the that the that the the the the that the that that the the that that the that that that that the that the that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. t. t. ttttttttttttttttttte. to. to. that's. that's. the camouflage car the tumbler the tumbler okay first of all I have something to say about that I walked by it on my way to work one day that they were filming I took a picture of it and I was like look it's the Batmobile on Facebook and people were like you fucking stupid bitch it's not the batmobile and I, comic book dudes, come on, calm down. You stupid, miserable, ignorant, bitch. And you're ugly! Who are you friends with on Facebook? I mean, I'm exaggerating for a fact.
Starting point is 00:25:15 But, okay, so did it, did it sort of like, mess up in your head that half of the scene, half of the scene was taking place in Oakland and the other half was downtown? Like, they would would like, did, did, did, did, did, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thooo. th. th. th. thooo. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th., half of the scene is taking place in Oakland and the other half was downtown, like, they would whirl around across the street and they'd be on Smithfield and you're like, no, that's three and a half miles away. I have never seen a thing filmed in Pittsburgh that gets the geography correct of Pittsburgh. It's so bonkers. It's like very frustrating to watch as a native. I think there's a movie, what is a movie, I, I, I, I, I, the movie, the movie, the movie, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, that, that, that, that's like, that's that's that's that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thr-a, thri, thri, thri, thro, thro, thro, throooo, that, that, that, that, that, that,, me and the dying girl or something like that? Me, Earl and the dying girl? Maybe that's what it's called. And it's shot in Pittsburgh and there's like a guy that lives in Braddock and walks out his front door and he's in Polish Hill and just like, can you?
Starting point is 00:25:55 Can't you? You can't even drive there in like 20 minutes. But yeah, yeah, no, they were definitely like, you just had to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend suspend to suspend suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend to suspend your their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, they.e. their, they.e. their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their,, no, they were definitely like, you just had to suspend your disbelief at the bonkers amount of shit that they were traveling around in Pittsburgh in that period of time. I just absolutely love seeing shit I know on film though. It is like, yeah, incredibly lame of me, but I love it. Yeah, when they're doing like the through the city chases and it was just like, I know where that that is like, I know where that is. Yeah, like, I think we talked about this in the silence of the lambs episode, but I was like, oh, I threw up in that building where this is happening, but like in this one, I was like, oh, there's one Oxford Center, I got fired from a job there. Oh, there's a Weener world. I think I once pe grabbed my butt. Oh, Jesus. Maybe you do live in Gotham.
Starting point is 00:26:48 Getting fired, peeing, being assaulted. Yeah, sounds right. I love the skyline shots that are just like, Pittsburgh, plus. Bigsburg. Yeah, it's funny because they do do that beautiful shot of Heinz Field that shows the, you can see like the Clemente Bridge and the river and it's clearly not the same city or bridges that are being shot elsewhere. For sure, for sure. But it also makes me that like when the, was it the WTO that met here or the G7 or something years ago? Oh the G20? Yeah. And I was like of course they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the, the, thi the, the, the, the, the, the th th the the the th th the th th the, you the, the, you th th the, you th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the the, the the the the the the to to the to to to the to to to to to to to the the to th ago? Oh, the G20, yeah. G20. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:25 And I was like, of course they're gonna meet here because if you need to shut a city down, this Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh is so easy to shut down. It is so easy to shut down. That's why we have such bad traffic all the time, is because one goddamn accident puts the whole city under. way to get literally anywhere. No, it's crazy. Especially from where you live, you cannot get to anything quickly. At least I can get to Bigelow fast and then I take Bigelow. Oh, Katie. I know. You want to hear a funny story about the G20? You know, when you're a funny story about the G20? Since these people are paying for this podcast? Of course. I went to a show, it was like the Friday, or no, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was, it, it was, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it. the, it. the, it. the, it. the, it. the, it. the, it. the, it. the, it. the, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the, like, like, like, the, like, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, it. the, it. the Friday, or no, it must have been the Thursday night of the G20. You know, there were, there were protests everywhere.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Pittsburgh kind of really did get shut down for it. And I went to a show that night and got soup, soup soups drunk and I was at Ritter's at like three o'clock in the morning and I had to work the next day. And my cousin Joe, I was like, I was with my cousin Joe and he was like, just like, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was, I was, I was like, I was like, to to to to to to to, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, to to to to to to to to to to to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to to to, to to to, to, to to to to, to to to, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. to to th. to to to th. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to theell her that I got arrested and you have to wait to bail me out. And I was like, that's a great idea. And so I just wrote the email and sent it right then. And when I got to work on Monday, because it was a Friday, when I got to work on Monday, my boss was like, oh my god, is everything okay. Everyone's so worried.
Starting point is 00:28:35 And I was like, to get on work. Joe's in jail. You gotta stop using it all the time now though. I know, well now I've outed myself. Aren't you your own boss though? Yeah. I still have to like make up an excuse for like the office manager though. I can't just be like I'm not coming in. Hey me, I won't be in today. I've got to go bail me out of jail. Joe's probably in jail. Hold on, let me get a drink real quick. I wish that I had seen Joseph Gordon Leavitt in Pittsburgh. Sure. I love him. Love him. His New York accent or whatever it is that's going on in this movie's a little bit much, but it's uh, he's fun. I mean, he kind of starts off with it and then drops it later. It th. It th. It th. It th. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to be. to be. to be. to be. to be to be. to be to be. to be. to be. to be. to be. to be. to be. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. th. th. th. the. the the. the the. the the. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the's going on in this movie is a little bit much, but it's a he's fun. I mean, he kind of starts off with it and then drops it later. It almost sounds like Baltimore maybe?
Starting point is 00:29:32 I don't know. It's a Gotham accent, I guess. He's a native Gotham might. Well, Gotham is New York City, because Superman's, uh, where the fuck does he live? Who cares? That's supposed to be Chicago? Because Superman's, where the fuck does he live? Who cares? That's supposed to be Chicago. Metropolis.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Yeah, that's Chicago and Batman is New York City. You mean they're meant to be? What are you talking about? Like in the fiction, they would be the fictional versions. Gotham is the fictional version of New York City. I see. If we lived in this world. Correct. What would Pittsburgh be? Cleveland? I like it. That's better then because if you live in Gotham, you could just move here, which is way better than Cleveland and way better than Gotham.
Starting point is 00:30:13 Yeah, we can hang out with the Commissioner's former wife. Yeah. Speaking of former wives, I had a run in with the former mother-in-law of the mayor, Pittsburgh Luke Ravenstall, who is the kicker of the football-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-s, th-s, th-s. th-s, th-in-in-s. th-s. th-in, th-in, th-in, th-in, th-in, th-in-in-in-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in, th, th, th, th, th, th-in, th-in, th-in, th-in-in-in-w, th-w, th-w, th-w. th-w. th-li-li-li-li-li-li-li-li-li-li-li-li-li-li-li-wif-wifli-wiflin-law of the mayor of Pittsburgh Luke Ravenstall, who is the kicker of the football team in this movie. In which I was talking shit on him in a beer line at a pirate's game and a woman tapped me on the shoulder and she was like, I'm Aaron's mother? And I was like, who is Aaron? And she was like, the mayor's wife? And I was like, congratulations on your the the the the the the mayor the, the mayor's wife? And I was like, congratulations on your son-in-law. What shall I say? I can't think of anything more appropriate
Starting point is 00:30:51 than the fact that he was the kicker for the not Pittsburgh team. I know. For those of you who are not from Pittsburgh and have no familiarity with this, Luke Gravenstall was at one point, the youngest mayor in America, he like went on the Tonight show or something as such, he did a real real bad job here and narrowly escaped federal indictment for embezzling, basically embezzling and fraud, narrowly escaped. He ended up working at the gas company with my friend Tram who said that when they they brought him in on his first day,
Starting point is 00:31:26 they were like, this is our new employee, Luke, and everyone was like, that's the former mayor. And they were like, yes, Luke, okay. We should sprinkle allegedly as around here because he was never convicted of anything. I said he was narrowly missed indictment, which is true. But he also just like, until you told me about trams, that tram sighting, that dude just, he was gone into ether. See, he was like high school mates with my cousin Joe, they were lads. Oh really? Yeah, yeah. So, fucking move Gra Gravenstall. So weird. So bad for Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:32:06 But how about the beautiful smile of Heinz Ward being in this movie? It was nice to see his face. It was a nice time for him. It was like Ben Rothelsberg's there looking like a fucking potato. And there's the Hines Ward, grinning away. You are 2008 world champion Pittsburgh Steelers. What are they in the movie? This movie? I can't remember. The Gotham Rogues. But I don't know what the other team was. Yeah, they were the Rapid City something or others. Okay. Rapid City. Is that like the Cedar Rapids of this universe?
Starting point is 00:32:43 Me? Is that like the Cedar Rapids of this universe? Man, Heinzfield packs out for rogues games, huh? Yeah, for sure. I think they had 11,000 extras for that scene. People probably fucking loved it. Sure. And they probably got all those like, I bet they got to walk away with like those scarves for the fake team and stuff, which was pretty cool. Oh yeah, I bet that'd be nice. It's probably not a, and to hear that speech probably 40 times or something. Oh, here we go again. Plus they, I mean, it was really dangerous.
Starting point is 00:33:13 They did blow up Heinz Field. Well, sure, they had to. Practical effects and all that. Yeah, I was worried that silly is it that he just keeps running without realizing the field's blowing up behind him? Like you wouldn't even look over your shoulder to see if there was a tackler, let alone like everyone you've ever loved falling into a hole. And Ben Rothelsberger. You know that man blocked me on Twitter because I said he looked like a potato. I didn't even tag him. Like whoever was running that account must search his name and they were like block. Or like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like th. Like, like th. Like, like th. Like, like th. Like, like th. Like, like th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You thi. You thi. You thi. You thi. You know, you thi. You thi. You know, you thi. You know, you thi. You thi. You the. You thi. You tag him. Like whoever was running that account must search his name and they were like Block. Or just search potato?
Starting point is 00:33:48 I know. I know what you people are doing. So Bain has, as the mastermind tarantula face monster that he is, he's convinced the cops that they have to go into the tunnels to get him. Yeah. And he's blown up, all the tunnelling was done under under the the the the the the the the theering the theering theering theering was under under under under under under under the the the the the the the the the the the the the tunnels to get him. Yeah. And he's blown up. He, all the tunneling was done under the secret armory of Batman. Right. I love that he has so many of those tumblers by the way.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Why do you need so many? That seems excessive. Yeah, I guess he needs a blow stuff up or something. Well, they're like, I'm the the the the the the the the the? And Alfred was like, because your businesses aren't making any money. It's like, fucking sell one of these bad boys. You're so civically minded, you know? You're the one sitting on all these assets while people are starving. But Lucius is just funneling all the money into research and development. So they can make more guns and blow them up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up. the the the the they they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. th. th. th. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It. It's. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they're th. th. th. th. they're like, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they's like, th. they's like, th. they're, they're like. they're make more guns and blow them ups. And that's Morgan Freeman, right? That's Morgan Freeman, correct. Criminally underutilized. One of the two good guys in this movie.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Who's the other? Alfred. Oh, not JTO? JGO? Yeah. Well, he is a cop. And he does that speech about like pushing down your anger and putting on a smile and I was like, oh, you're a terrible boyfriend. That's a dude who gets drunk and blows up on you. Oh my God. You know?
Starting point is 00:35:11 You know. So, Matthew Modene is the worst police officer. And he's like, the to'c-mo'c-dohmany's thing to do here? And how many cops do you have? There are a lot of cops the their...... th of the th of th of th of th of th th their th the tunnels. It's like, in what world is that the common sense thing to do here? And how many cops do you have? There are a lot of cops in this movie. You got 3,000 cops. There's a lot of crime, a lot of crime, Katie. I mean, that's an enormous police presence. It really is. Oh, so there was this whole thing where Selena Kyle stole Batman's mom's pearls, but he let her get away with it because she was hot and or something. No, I think that's it, yeah. I love that first sight. She could do cool backflips out of windows. I mean, who doesn't want to be with someone who
Starting point is 00:35:57 can do a backflip out of a window? For sure. Yeah, I also loved her little subterfuge of like she's the maid uniform on and just takes off the co the collar the collar the collar the collar the collar the collar th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I'm thi. I'm thi. I's thi. I'm thi. thi. thi. th. th. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm te. I'm tea. te. te. te. th. the collar and cuffs and she's in a slinky black dress. Yeah she looks great. I love all the slinky black dresses she wears in this. So and then Batman has to come back because he's been away for all this time going. She also steals his fingerprints though. Oh that's right because they need his fingerprints to do the stock market thing that they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they they're they're they're they they're they're they're they're they're th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I're th. tho. tho. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I thi. I thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the. the. the. I theee. I theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I the. I the. I to do the stock market thing that they're going to do. I don't see how his fingerprints would be like the most, you know what I mean? I don't see how that would really, mm-hmm. It was giving me Dracula 2000 vibes, where they had the eyeball and all that stuff. Oh, that's right. That's right.
Starting point is 00:36:37 And the fake hand? Do you think Chris Rinole is referencing Dracula the this movie. Yeah, for sure. I do, yeah. I love when Batman comes back and he's on the wobbliest looking motorcycle I've ever seen. I know. And he's got that like, fucking floor length of a lore cape on. And I'm like, that can't be safe. What you're doing right now cannot be safe.
Starting point is 00:37:03 No, he, I don't, I mean, I don't understand a lot of what he's doing in this movie or why he's doing it. But that is one thing I super don't understand. But we get the old cop who's in the passenger seat as the young cop's driving is like, who's that? And the cop's like, you're in for a show tonight son yeah buckle up kiddo shut up
Starting point is 00:37:28 Can I ask a like an overarching plot question for sure so this eight years ago is when Harvey Dent was murdered eight years have passed between movie two and movie three correct? Why doesn't anyone put it together that no one has seen either Batman or Bruce Wayne in that time? And then eight years later, Batman and Bruce Wayne begin showing up again. Isn't this a very like never seen them in the same room situation? So, uh, the only answer I have for this is comic book? Fair.
Starting point is 00:38:04 Because JGL meets Bruce Wayne once, sees him fake smile, he goes, oh, that's Batman. Yeah, he knows the pain. He knows the pain. He knows the pain. Being an orphan, pain. And ostensibly the best detective in Gotham at the end of the movie is like, what? Where, like, Bain is like, oh, that's B. that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th, th, th, th, th, the the only the only the only the only the only thi, th. th. th, th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only, the only thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the only thi. the. the only, the only, the detective in Gotham at the end of the movie is like, what? Like, Bain is like, oh, that's Batman, that's Batman and Bruce Wayne?
Starting point is 00:38:31 Same person, yeah. I did an internet search. It was very, I just, like I couldn't tell throughout the movie, who knew that Bruce Wayne was Batman and who didn't, because it seemed very obvious to me. For sure. Yeah, and some people knew. But doesn't the fact that Batman sounds like this, hey, what are you doing? And Christian Bale doesn't? I mean, that's the candy Batman because one of them goes like, oh, I don't know. That's true. And also, Christopher, no.
Starting point is 00:39:01 Also Bruce Wayne doesn't have those big horns. You're right. You're right. So, and so. And so, and that. And, and that, and that, and th, and th, and, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, that's, th, th, th, th, doesn't, th, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, th, doesn't, doesn't, th, doesn't, doesn't, th, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, th, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, th. But, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, th, doesn't, th. But, doesn't, th. But, doesn't, th. But, th. th. th. th. th. tho, doesn't, doesn't, tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho, doesn't, doesn't Wayne doesn't have those big horns. You're right. You're right. So that's that's difference too. And Bruce Wayne Fox. Which we've never seen Batman Fux. That's true. I've never seen Batman Fucks. Yeah. Yeah, it must be. Same person. Same person. Question mark. So they lead all the cops in the movie. And this is like the hour and a half, or onto the the th th th th th th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, that, th, thi, that, thi, thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's that's that's that's, that's, that's, that's, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, that's that's different, that's different, that's different, that's different, that's different, that's different, that's different, that's different, that's different, thi, that's thi, thi, thi, the cops in the movie, and this is like the hour and a half, or all into the tunnels, like the hour and a half mark of the movie. So the cops are going to be out of it for a while.
Starting point is 00:39:34 And that's when Bain blows up the stadium and tells everybody that tomorrow you're going to get to take back your city. I wish that the signs the signs tom tom to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to had been changed from UPMC to UGMC. For sure. For University of Gotham Medical Center. But I assumed that UPMC got some money and or paid some money to have this in there. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Yeah. I had to go to Giant Eagle this morning and I thought, you were in Batman. Hey, Shakespeare Street, Giant Eagle, the worst Giant Eagle on the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the th, th, the th, th, the th, the th, the th, Eagle, you were in badmiss all you in that movie. Hey, Shakespeare Street, Giant, the worst giant eagle on the planet. Nice to see you. I think the Squirrel Hill one's worse. Oh, no, Squirrel Hill is worse because you're just like competing with people for food there, and it's brutal. It's a bad scene. Yeah, so...
Starting point is 00:40:20 Fuck in Bain. Meanwhile, without setting Bain aside, we've also met Marion, I'm going to say Kotiar. I think that's close enough for Jess. Yeah. Kotear? As Ms. Tate, who is like super hyper-focused on clean energy. Shit. She is. And I, I mean, that's how I knew, I knew she was a bad guy from the job because nobody's that fucking focused on clean energy. I said to Rob, she is. And I mean, that's how I knew. I knew she was a bad guy from the jump, because nobody's that fucking focused on clean energy. I said to Rob, she's a bad guy, no one cares that much about clean energy. He was like, what are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:40:51 She's a philanthropist, no, she's a bad guy. At what point did you know because she's like, yes, I'll happily take over Bruce Wayne Enterprises or whatever. Show me that nuclear thing again. Yes, where is the nuclear? And how do I access the nuclear? Okay, great. I did however love Bain showing up at a board meeting. Like, that was like Bain's like contesting something in last months. Bain's seconds of motion. Point of water???? Bane. Bane. Bane. Bane. Bain. Bain. B. B. B. B. B. B. B. B. B. B. B. B. B. B. B. B. Bain's seconds of motion. Point of order. Bain refuses to follow Robert's rules of order. I do love that like, I love the little things that Bain does in this movie, like when they go into the stock market. First off, the one guy walks in, does one shot in somebody's chest and the rest of them in the air. I the rest of them in the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th th th th th th th th th th. th. th. the the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeean. theeeeee. the. s that Bain does in this movie, like when they go into the stock market. Starting point is 00:41:48 and I was like, damn, that's that's cold-blooded. Yeah. But Bain, that's cold-blooded. But Bain, like, that's like, thii's the motorcycle helmet. thi, and then, and then, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. tho. tho. thi. thi. thi. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. He's your friend that you have to explain to people like, yeah, I know that he's trying to detonate a 40 megaton bomb in the city right now, but he's a sweet boy. He's just a sweet boy. He's just just not not not not not that that that that that that that that that he's not not not not not not not not not not not not not not he's not he's not he's not he's not he's not that that he's not he's not that that that that that that that that you that you that you know that you know that you know. that you know. that you know that you know. Is this just a movie about abusive relationships? So at the, at when Bain gives his speech, he, is this when he announces the commissioner's resignation? Or is that later? That's at the jail. That's at the jail. Oh, right, right. He says this is a symbol of your oppression at Melon Institute. Right.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Robotics, I guess. I don't really know what they're doing in there. Robotics? I don't know either. Black ops for the government? Everybody who gets married in Pittsburgh gets their photos taken with those goddamn pillars. Sure. They're very Grecian. They're nice. Yeah, I know, but I've th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th really, I've th really, I've th really, I've th really, I've th really, I've th really, I've th really th really th really th. I've thi. I've really thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've they're really thi. Do something to go in front of the former O and get your picture taken.
Starting point is 00:43:05 You know how many like engagement photos I see getting taken on the North Shore Trail? I'm just like get it's yes it's a bridge great. You did it. Yay. I'm so so fucking mean. Both of my favorite running trails appear in this movie. Oh nice, nice. Is one of them on the ice? When you have to be exiled onto the ice? Oh, yeah, yeah. Where is that? That's not real. I don't think that's at Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:43:34 Oh, should we also should note that JGL has been finding bodies as they pour out of the sewer system? He found the kids body in there and then Commissioner Gordon's body comes out of there when he gets flushed. Luckily there's no other crime happening in Gotham than Bain so all police efforts can be focused on that and or being locked in a sewer area. They did away with all the crime with the Harvey Den Act. Right, right. I did like that they blew the fucking mayor up in the stadium. Like they had a specific bomb set to blow him up. Oh yes that was cool. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. There's just there's so much shit that happens in this movie. It's insane. It's so much shit that happens and so much time passes
Starting point is 00:44:26 and you only know it because they're like, okay, well it's been three months since we talked, you know, like. That and how dirty Christian Bale's feet are when he's in the jail. That's gross, I can't with that. Batman has to meet with Bain. Selena Kyle double crosses him, leads him to Bain. Like, why did you not see that coming? Sure, for sure. She's just basically like, catwoman going, catwoman.
Starting point is 00:44:53 And then, that's literally her stance in this movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I liked her. I was going to say, I liked her little buddy a lot. Her little friend that she lives with tha ca ca ca, tha, tha, tha, tha, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's thi. that's thi. thi. a lot, her little friend that she lives with and does crimes with. Jen? Yeah. Just Jen. I would highly recommend folks watch Ted Lassow if you haven't seen that, which is the show that's on... Is that a Spurs show? No, Ted Lasso is an American football coach goes to England to coach a Premier League team. Isn't it spurs? No, it's like some made-up team that he goes, it might as well be Spurs, yeah. And he goes there and it's it's just endearing
Starting point is 00:45:32 and wonderful. And Jen plays a big role in that and she's delightful in that show. Oh, that's a hot tip. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So and Apple TV does a seven-day free trial and you can watch all of Ted Lassow in that time and then get rid of it Also a hot tip. Yeah, that's my financial tip for the week Alan's financial corner Throw the rich out with their suitcases because that's what pain does I liked that actually just throwing rich people out of their houses, but also like given them a suitcase with like a couple clothes in it. th. th. th. the th. their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi. thi. thi. thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I'll te. I'll tea. I'm tog. I'm tog. I'm te. I'm tog. I'm tip. I'm tip. I'll tip. I'll t. I'll t., just throwing rich people out of their houses, but also like given them a suitcase with like a couple clothes in it. Sure. You're either going to get thrown out or definitely murdered. You're definitely getting murdered. Yeah. Oh, but I was saying, so Batman has to fight Bain, and Bain whips the living shit out of Batman and breaks his back. Right. Breaks his back and makes him him humble. But his lines are so funny because they're in that voice. He's like, I was wondering what was going to break first, your body or your soul?
Starting point is 00:46:31 Which I wrote was a very hellraiser line. Octoring not the body but my soul. And also, I love that Bain has time to fly to the Middle East with Batman to drop him off in this prison. That's a long trip. There's a couple days lost there. Yeah, you're going to be so jet-lagged. Like does Bain take a nap after this? Oh boy, howdy? I'm tired.
Starting point is 00:47:01 I don't think I can to go. So then we see Batman learning to walk again because somehow he's able to. Because he's, it's just sheer determination. He's so determined. To just keep doing upper body because he keeps skipping like day. For sure. For sure. He just has to strengthen his core doing sit-ups. He's going to climb out of this hole. Can I ask a question about that hole? Uh-huh. Why don't they just climb the rope? Because it doesn't go all the way up? Well, that doesn't work. For me. Yeah, you know, the rope only goes like halfway up so when you fall it stops you before you hit the ground, I guess. There's a lot of flaws in the prison if you start looking at it too hard. Yeah, all right, if you say so. It's a really good metaphor though for like that sort of punishment,
Starting point is 00:48:01 of just like putting someone in a hole for the rest of their lives until their soul literally breaks. Yeah, it's bleak. Yeah, super bleak. Yeah, or, or, or, for, for, or, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, or, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, or, for, for, or, for, for, or, for, for, for, or, or, the the the the the the the ground, the ground, the ground, the the the the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the ground, the the the ground, the ground, the the the the the the the the the ground, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the ground, the the ground, the ground, a hole for the rest of their lives until they their soul literally breaks. Yeah, it's bleak. Yeah, super bleak. They do have a TV though until he throws something at it and then they don't get to watch TV anymore. Do you think the other two guys were like, the fuck? Yeah, I was watching that. I have nothing else. I'm not trying to climb out. I know I can't make that jump. I need to watch Golden Girls in half an hour. What are you doing there, buddy? Seriously. So these two guys kindly nursing back to health. At this point in the movie, it's just like they're cramming every last fucking thing in as quickly as they can.
Starting point is 00:48:42 It just gets really like, and then, and then they go here, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and they, and they, and they're, and they're, and they're, and they're, and they're they're they're they're their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, their, their, their, their, their, their, really like and then and then and then they go here and then they're there and then they're over here you know. And don't forget about JGL he's still solving cop problems. Yeah with like little kids that he just loves even though he hates everything. I only love orphans. I only love orphans. I've been killing parents to make more orphans to make more people to love. Orphans make me so angry, but also I only love them. See, yeah, he, the guy who isn't speaking English starts speaking English perfectly and is like, just do it without the rope, man, because you're jumping with fear. You gotta stop fear or something, but then you need fear to do the jump.
Starting point is 00:49:22 I'll see you later. Bye. Let me do my chant with everybody else. What, uh, what do they say they they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say the the they say the the the they say the ch the cha the cha the cha the chant they say they say the chant the chant the chant the chant the chant the cha the cha the cha the cha the cha the cha the cha the cha the cha the ch the ch the ch the ch the ch the ch they their they they they they they they they they they they say they say they say they say they say they say they say their their their their they say their their they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say tha. thea. they say say they say say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say they say their they say need fear to do the jump. I'll see you later. Bye. Let me do my chant with everybody else. What, what do they say the chant means rise? Yeah, rise. Apparently it is not, it's like phonetic Arabic, but it's not correct. Okay. It means like, I guess when they did an actual translation, it means she's coming, which could be foreshadowing what's happening later on in the movie. But yeah, also as much shit as we talked on Danny Elfman in the Nightbreed episode, Han Zimmer cannot not Han Zimmer. Just like, do-dump, bump, gunk, gunk, gunk, gunk, on everything.
Starting point is 00:50:02 It is very intense. It's certainly ratcheting it up a notch. But there's one scene where Anne Hathaway is like beating the shit out of these two like street bugs to give an apple back to a little kid. And it's just going, don't go, gunk, junk, junk. It's like, no, I don't, really? It's a low stakes sakes. High tympanies. Yes, it is tympany heavy for sure. You're not. You. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. You're not. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th Hans. Low stakes, high tympanies. Yes, it is typany heavy for sure. You're not going to believe this, Katie. Tell me. Batman jumps out of the hole. He does it.
Starting point is 00:50:33 Yeah, he does it. And then I guess he throws the rope down so they all get out to. And then what is he to step outside, make a cell phone call and get up???. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. the. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to. to. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the to. the the the the the te. the te. te. the te. the te. te. the toe. to. to. to. to. the the tip? How do you get out of there? I don't know you're in the middle of fucking nowhere. It's senseless. It's senseless. But luckily the next day he's in Gotham. Right, well, because now the time is ticking on, because once the nuclear thing has been removed from the reactor, it has five months until it blows up? Mm-hmm. Okay. Like Like which is a long period of time for something to degrade enough to explode? But it's they have it down to the minute. Yeah yeah there's a time. There's a timer on the thing but like but at one point Bain's like gosh by, by my mark calculations. Yeah, what, so first of all, Bain, did you do your own calculations?
Starting point is 00:51:29 I didn't realize you were a math guy, too. So you're like clever enough to pull off the plain bag over the head, ruse. You're like buff enough to kill people with your bare hands and you're mathy enough to do the reactor explosion calculations? Bain, what can you not do th th the the the the th the th th th the th th th th th th th th th th the the the the the the the the the the the the things things things things things things. things. T. T. T. T. Tane things, things, things, things, things. So things. First things. First things. First things. First things. First things. First things. First things. things. things. things. things. things things things things things things things. This is things things things things the, the, the, the, the. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. theateate. theeateate. things is things is things things things things things things things things things mathy enough to do the reactor explosion calculations, Bain, what can you not do? This is the overarching theme of comic books is the punching guy is also the smart guy. And I'm not saying that doesn't happen. No, that doesn't happen. It's not a constant throughout everything. I mean in comic books there are of course just the dumb punching guys, but also every smart guy is also a punching guy. Fascinating. Yeah. I just love studying. What is it? Maths? Kung Fu? Whatever you've got. Anything. Anything, literally anything.
Starting point is 00:52:29 So yeah, they're, they're, I'd like that whole like, because there's sort of a degradation of Western society in Gotham as well as the degradation of the bomb material going down at the same time. Like they're sort of degrading equally. Because all the, the poor have risen up, thrown all the rich out of their homes which Lena Kyle thought she would want much she doesn't. Yeah. She and she is searching for something she calls the clean slate which is like a computer program question mark that erases a person's entire existence from any known database. Yes, so she can start over again. I mean, there's other ways to do that too, I think.
Starting point is 00:53:11 Sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. But you know, and also I love that it's the most cast-off thing in this movie. Yeah, it makes fucking no sense. And you're like, wait, what? Let's tell you, because the one, the one, the one, the one, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, like let's talk about something else because the one guy dagget it's like it doesn't exist and then Batman's like of course it does of course I bought it yeah everything that could fall into evil hands he has to buy and make sure they don't get it. This is such a weird commentary on wealth for sure and it's like, it's two sides of a fascistic coin.
Starting point is 00:53:48 Right. Like, Batman is a total fascist. And so is Bain. And it's just like, one of them will kill you and the other one will just decide what is right and wrong. Right. And only one fascist can remain here at the end. Right, right, right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Two fascists end or one fascist rule.. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It. It's. It. It. It. It. It's. It. It's. It. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's two. It's two. It's two. It's two. It's two. It's two. It's two. It's two. It's two. It's two. It's two. It's two. two. It's two. It, right, right, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, two fascist end or one fascist rules. Oh, so, I don't know, they fight, right? They do. Also, we have to mention that Michael Kane has left Batman because he doesn't want to watch him kill himself. Oh, that was sad. Yeah, I mean, if you want to get me crying,
Starting point is 00:54:25 have Michael Kane cry in a movie. Yeah. I was done both times. It happened. And I've seen this movie so many times and I was still like, fucking Michael Kane, you're so good. You've cried. Oh, yeah, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:54:47 I like brushed away a small tier when I saw Burlington Coat Factory on Smithfield. Wait, that's still there, right? Oh yeah. Oh, no, no, I just wiped away a tear because I just, I love Pittsburgh so much. Park at Fils. I was happy to see Park at Phil's getting some, uh... I did see that. Yeah. I did see that. Yeah, yeah. I. that. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I that. I that. I that. I that. I, that. I, that. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, that, that, that, that, that, th, th, that, th, thed, I, th, th, th, th, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th. I th. I, I, I th. I, I, I, I th. I th, I th, I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thed, I the thi thi thi thi- thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-a' thi-s thi-a' thi-a. I Phil's, I was happy to see Park at Phil's getting some, uh... I did see that. Yeah. It's on the screen for a while, too. Park it fills.
Starting point is 00:55:13 Do you think Phil is stoked? Yes. I'm sure Phil is stoked. Phil's still out there doing it, you know? So yeah, then there's the big, they release the cops from the sewers and there's the like gladiator cop versus bad guy fight in the streets. I liked that actually, that's sort of 300 running at the, yeah, I liked it. Oh, we forgot to mention. So they blow up the prison and let all the prisoners out,
Starting point is 00:55:41 or at least the thousand that were put in there because of the Dent Act or whatever, and they all come running out of the street and they've been given weapons. Do you remember when he delivers the the commissioner's resignation and then they shoot open the doors and let all the prisoners out? I just got real confused as to where the prison is. It's right across the street from the Carnegie building. It's downtown in Gotham. But no, oh, but that's not the same prison that, no, that's not the Middle East. No, no, that's right, there's a, like a prison, prison, a regular prison, question mark.
Starting point is 00:56:19 And a fun fact is one of the prisoners running out of that jail or prison or whatever is a friend friend of the podcast, Joseph from Marveling at Marvel's!... G G G G G G G. th. th. G G G. th. G. G. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thom. thom. thom. thom. thom. thom. tho. But, thom! Oh, thomomom! thomomom! thom. It. It's, thom. It. It's, thom. But, thom. But, thom. But, thom. But, th. But, th. But, th. But, th. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, tho. It's, tho. It's tho. It's tho. It's tho. It's thoo. It's tho. It's tho. It's tho. It's tho. It's tho. It's the running out of that jail or prison or whatever is a friend of the podcast, Joseph from Marveling at Marvel's Marbles. Really? Yeah, I still haven't been able to find him, but he was one of the extras in that. That's fun. Yeah. Joseph. So yeah, there's the big brawl and Batman and Bain find each other in the smoke and the greatest love of all starts playing and then they hug or fight or something. I thought
Starting point is 00:56:49 it was great. Yeah for sure. I love the like whole thing of like Bain fighting Batman and just randomly punching cops that get near him. Yeah. He's a fucking monster. He is. Um, why are they driving around downtown Pittsburgh so wildly? To find the bomb. Right, they're trying to get the reactor back in the core, the core back in the reactor, or whatever. And they have like 15 minutes left to do it. And then he is in his vehicle that he has earlier in the movie said, it's not a car,
Starting point is 00:57:24 when someone calls it a car and then it flies away. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's stupid. I do like when he's earlier in the movie when we first see the bat in action and the lights come on and there's just like the two Batman slit window eyes at the top of it.
Starting point is 00:57:39 And I was like, oh, that's cute. Cute, cute. Another cute thing I liked is when he's talking to Selena Kyle and she just ghosts him and he goes, oh that's what that feels like. Yeah I did like the couple of like comedy things they tried to inject. I thought it was good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because that's a that's like a historic Batman thing of like you're talking to him, look away and he just ghosted you. Yeah. yeah. yeah. yeah. Yeah. they. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There, they. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's. That's like. That's like. That's like. That's like. That's like. That's like. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's like. That's like. That's like. That's like. That's like. That'sto him look away and he just ghost you. Yeah there was a guy I knew a freshman year in college that everybody called Batman because he would like you'd be sitting at your desk and he would in your room and he would just like suddenly be behind you. Oh no that sounds terrifying. No he was terrible he was actually it was very dangerous yes. So Batman has to take the bomb and fly it out over the Bay of Gotham the th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. the th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the the the the the thi. the the thi. thi. thi. they. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. to. to. to. the. to. the. to. the the the the the theee. the the they. they. the. the. th take the bomb and fly it out over the bay of Gotham and make it a
Starting point is 00:58:29 sploat. Yeah, it's suddenly Gotham is oceanfront? Uh-huh. Mm-hmm. And Morgan Freeman has earlier told us that the autopilot on this vehicle is broken, so Batman has to fly it. Yeah. Right. And, oh, we forgot to say that
Starting point is 00:58:48 Ms. Tate was actually the daughter of Rosal Goul. Rosal Goul. And that Bain was like her little best friend. He took care of her when she was a baby. I think it's really sweet when like she's explaining what he did for her and he starts crying Because he's dying basically. Yeah. Yeah. What the fuck? Movie? They go out of their way to make Bain such an evil guy.
Starting point is 00:59:17 Yeah, yeah, but he protected a child from being raped in a prison. Yeah. Which is, yeah, I mean, yeah. And like got the shit kicked out of him to let her escape. Right, right, had his body literally ruined. Yeah. But he was still able to get soup swole after that happened. Yeah, well, again, pure determination.
Starting point is 00:59:37 It's just, like, come on movie. Again, this movie is bleak as fuck. Like this is a bleak-ass movie. I forgot there's a third time that I cry in this movie. Oh my God! They're all Michael Gain related. So after Batman goes and blows the bomb up over the ocean, we cut to Batman's funeral, we cut to Batman's funeral, or Bruce Wayne's funeral.
Starting point is 01:00:04 That's only attended by the commissioner who's reading from a tale of two cities. Reading from a tale of two cities at my funeral is expressly prohibited. I wanna be super clear about that. But it's also like, at this point in the movie, you're like, yeah, no, we got it. You're referencing a tale of two cities throughout this entire film, we're good. Right, are you gonna-
Starting point is 01:00:25 We all took 10th grade English, thanks. Yeah, do you wanna read something from Les Miserall as well? In other ways, like, say what? I can sing again? Okay, I guess. But so we see Alfred at the, like when everybody else leaves and he's by standing at Batman's parents' graves and he just starts crying and saying I failed you. Oh man, that fucked me up.
Starting point is 01:00:51 But he didn't, it's okay. He didn't, because earlier in the movie, Alfred's like, I had this dream that I'd be in this Italian cafe having a, the best pronunciation of Furnette Bronca I've ever heard where he's like a Furnette Branca. And I'd see you there with your wife or maybe some kids and we wouldn't say anything we would just make eye contact and then we'd go about our lives. Why can't they say hi though? I don't know. Like you'd be like, oh I knew him from a job. Oh, he... they, so at the end of the movie, of course, that happens. And I was like, how long has Batman and Anne Hath wave in a desk cafe waiting? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:01:33 But, and also like, now she has like, she's wearing like a blue chambre tank top and her hair isn't like a swish pony instead of being like sleek and she's wearing all black. And I just th is your new life? You're just like a rich wife now? Is that what you always want in Anne Hathaway? And she's wearing his mother's pearls. I didn't see that but I assume. Because he gave them back to her and during the like when they're giving out stuff from the will, the guy, I guess lawyer, I was going to say say will reader. Not. Uh like, like, like, like the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm like thi. thi. I'm like, th. I's th. Is th. Is th. Is th. Is th. Is th. Is th. Is th. Is th. Is th. Is th. Is. Is th. Is. Is. Is. th. th. Is. th. Is. th. th. Is. Is. I. I th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm. I thi. I'm thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I'm th. I'm going to say Will Reader. Not an estate attorney. Being dumb's fun. It's like, well, you've got to find these pearls, we just can't have things missing right now. What's going on? Fuck off.
Starting point is 01:02:18 So, a lot of problems with the end of this movie. Frankly, all those people are fucked. That's a mushroom cloud just a few miles away. But now it's over the ocean. Everything's fine. The military clapped. They are a-fuf-fuf-fuf-fucked. The sheer amount of property damage, I hope Gotham is going to raise their taxes because they have a lot of repairs to do. The idea that you would smash this 40 megaton bomb just around bouncing it off the street, hitting it off buildings. I can't drop a fucking can of Coke without it spraying all everything. Also the idea that you would just blow a small section of a bridge and the rest of the bridge would be just fine.
Starting point is 01:03:07 That's not how bridges work. I'm not a structural engineer and I know that. I ain't know bridge scientists, but I know that's not how the shit works. And then, yeah, so we're told that Batman had in fact fixed the autopilot on the, uh, on the bat. The bat. Is that what what what what what that what that what that what that what that what that what that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that the the that the th is the the the the the the the the the the the the the th is the the the the the the the the the the the the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the b. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the b. the the the b. the the. The bat. Is that what it's called? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Eh, I would have got a car plane myself. Oh, and Joseph Gordon Leavitt is Robin, by the way.
Starting point is 01:03:34 You should go by your first name. It's wonderful. I love Robin. Says a lady to him. I didn't see that coming. No. I'm an idiot. I did like how the ending of the movie, yeah, yeah, th th, th, the th, th, th, th, th, the th, th, th, th, th, th, the, the, the, the, I the, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I'm thi, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th the, I the, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I tho, I tha, I'm tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, I'm tha, I tha, I didn't see that coming. No? I'm an idiot. I did like how the ending of the movie is like,
Starting point is 01:03:49 and maybe we'll do a Robin movie next, and then nothing ever came of that. Yeah, why didn't he get a movie? They don't know. Interesting. There's this whole, uh, like Robin when didn't they do that? Yeah. I guess maybe the bottom fell out of superhero movies and they're not doing them anymore. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Superman and Star Wars, like just nobody cares anymore. It's just like people are like give me something
Starting point is 01:04:20 something else. I'm not going to see this. Yeah, just give me something substantive with like, based on literature. That's what I'm into. Literature, yes, and like thin men. I'm tired of all these swole blokes. I am tired of swal blokes, honestly. Fuck off. Get regular. I think that, like, yeah, I think that's why I appreciated Tom Hardy's body in this so much.
Starting point is 01:04:46 He was just like a, like, he was like a swole friend's dad. Yeah, he looked like a little bit like my uncle Dan. Yeah. He probably does like real hard labor construction work and then is like, also loves a beer when he gets home. Yeah. Good for you, Bane. So Katie. Alan. What did you think of this movie? I don't know, honestly.
Starting point is 01:05:11 Like, I'm incensed that it was nearly three hours long. But it does go at a pretty good clip, where there were only a few points where I was like, pick it up, pick it up, pick it up. That was during the Scottshale, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, of, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th, th, th, th, th, the thi, thi, the the the the thi, thi, thi, thi, I'm thi, I'm, I th. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I. I. I, I. I. I. I. I. I. I, I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I, I. I. I, I. I, I. I, I. I, I th, I th, I th, I'm, I'm, th, th. thi. thi. thi. thi. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tha. tha. tho. tha, I don't thi. I thi. show, of course. Of course. It was over at, it was at Metropole. I would have loved it if Metropole had appeared in this tel. I mean, I think I would have liked it a lot less if I wasn't busy composing a love letter to my city and my head while I was watching it. Sure. You know, just like the overhead shots where I was like, look at the river. And when the the they they they they they they they they were when they were when they were when the their their they were when their, when their, when their, when their, when their, when their, it was their, it was over their, it was over their, it was over their, it was over th. It was over th. It was over th. It was over, it was over, it was over, it was over th. It was over, it was over, it was over, it was over, it was over, it was over th. It was over, it was over, I was over, I was over, I was over, I was over, I was their, I was their, I was their, I was their, when their, when their, when their, when their, when their, when their, when their, when their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their the river, I love this place, look that's where I run.
Starting point is 01:05:45 And when we're there in that industrial area of the south side where the train is going by, like under the Liberty Bridge. Sure. I was just like, fuck, I love this place. This is such a great city. But that's not the movie, you know, it's not a film. I feel like I can't, I know we don't rate these, but I don't, I feel like I can't really judge this movie because I didn't see the first two and it turns out that like other movie
Starting point is 01:06:16 franchises aren't like horror movie franchises where you can just kind of pick them up and put them down. So, you know, I th I I I I I I th I th I th I th I th th I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi th thi that that that that that that that that that that that that, I can that that that that that, I can't that, I can't that, I can't the, I can't the, I can't the, I can't the, I can't the, I can't the, I the, I thate, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I can can can can can can can can can can can can can can that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th know, I think I probably, if I'd had more context, I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more. Do you think, and I loved the action. Would you watch the other two movies now that you've seen this one? If I stumbled on some free time, but I'm not gonna prioritize those over other movies, okay, thooo, and I, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, and, and, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, and, and, and I, and I', the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, and I, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, they...... th. to. too, th. too. th. too. tho. tho. tho. the the the the the the, the, the, the, the, the three of them. I'd be like, all all three Batman movies. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll have nachos and watch all three Batman movies. Totally, I would do that sometime. Yeah, we'll do. Yeah, I also, well, not also, I love this whole run of these Batman movies. I don't know why they they struck such a chord with me, but like they really, they really resonate with me.
Starting point is 01:07:06 Tough time in your life. Sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah, tough time in Batman's life. You know, we had that in common. Yeah. Oh, who's Rachel, by the way? Rachel was his like childhood friend, slash, thrown, then, he went away for a long time and she and Harvey Dent became a thing. So and there's this whole thing in the in the previous movie where Alfred does what he said he did where he burnt a letter from her saying I'm not
Starting point is 01:07:35 gonna be with you I choose Harvey because after she died because he didn't want to break Bruce's heart any more than it already was. Was it Maggie Jill and Hall? It was Maggie Jill and it was Maggie Jill and Hall in the previous, the first movie, it's, Smiles with one side of her face. Mary Barry. No, no, no, was married to Tom Cruise.
Starting point is 01:07:55 Why can I think of her name? Nicole Kibbens. Katie Holmes, thank you. She just had like an Ohio, She's. thauauauau, yeah. th. thi. th. thi, she's, th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, th. Smi, th, smi, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles, th. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm. Sm., thi, smile, smile, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. Sm, thi, thi. Smi. Smi. Smi., thed, smiles, smiles, smiles, thi. Smi. Smi. Smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles does have like an Ohio smile, huh? I don't know what that means. She's from Ohio. I just know she's from Ohio. She has a smile that she puts chili over a macaroni. She has an Ohio smile. It's disgusting, Cincinnati. What are you fucking doing? You're disgusting? Disagree. Hard love of that dish. Fair?
Starting point is 01:08:25 Too fair? I've never had it. It's just pasta with meat sauce, but it's chilly and it's got some beans in it, it's fine. Bet you can get it, Weiner World. Yeah, weenewor World rules. I also love the idea of like, uh, yeah, this was Katie Holmes. Yeah, they don't look anything like, fuck it.
Starting point is 01:08:46 Just go on, it's fine. Yeah, you can't do that. They did. They're also just like big name actresses, too. Yeah. All right, well, anyway. Yeah. So that's, uh happens in the movie. I mean, I don't have the time, frankly.
Starting point is 01:09:07 We're an hour and 10 already. Oh my God, oh I gotta go, I have to get a shower for Lucy wakes up. All right, all right, well let's get out of here. All right, thanks so much for listening to another patron. Patreon. When do I say patron. I can't get into the weeds here. Thanks for enjoying this Patty episode. Yeah, oh, can we call them Patties? I like that a lot. Only around St. Patrick's Day. That's racist. Kiss me, I'm a
Starting point is 01:09:36 werewarewuf ambulance fan. Let's make those buttons this year. All right. Oh, it's too late. It's in like a month. Yeah, for sure. Next year, next year. Put it on the list. Okay. Thanks so much for listening everybody. Thanks for supporting us. We love you guys. We do.
