I actually got him to admit he made a mistake with tweeting.
Do you ever just wake up the next day and be like, man, I wish I didn't tweet that?
He's like, yeah, I do.
What's up, everybody?
Welcome to Flagrant.
And today we have the man, the myth, the legend, Barstool's own Dave Portnoy, everybody.
Give it up for Dave.
Thank you so much, man.
I have a bone to pick with you, Dave, because you did the thing that I wanted to do if I ever interviewed Trump.
Which was what?
I'm wondering if you can pick it out.
My dad?
No.
The dad was a beautiful moment.
You weren't going to do that, too, though.
You were going to call Dave's dad.
Yeah, I was going to call your dad.
Your dad hated Trump.
What did I do that?
It was the first thing that opened ollie g i always said i was like
if i ever talked to trump the first thing i'll say is i'll bring up the ollie g thing because
as far as i remember the only person he's the only one that that saw through it got up it also
so when i did that interview with him he really didn't know who i was like yeah donald jr was a
fan everybody there was like Barstool people.
But that disarmed him, actually.
He was like, oh, this is a friendly fire.
And it changed his demeanor.
And he leaned into you and started explaining it to you.
And, like, it was crazy because he—
obviously, people like to get complimented,
but he found something that nobody else complimented him on,
but he was proud of.
Yeah, he loved it.
He loved it.
It changed the entire, actually, because one thing about him,
he for sure, a little bit probably similar to me and a lot of people,
but his hackles go up when he thinks he's being attacked.
So if he views somebody as like, this guy's an enemy,
he's basically a real prick back.
And that's how a lot of his conflict is.
But if he thinks you're on his side
he turns into kind of normal dude
and then you asked him
the wildest question to follow up
so you're like yeah I love you you're great
why can't people take a knee
I was like what the fuck
is that
and then you also said this is the first time I've ever interviewed somebody
so I don't think he knew what to think in the moment
he was so flattered I actually got him This is the first time I've ever interviewed somebody, so I don't think he knew what to think in the moment. It was.
He was so flattered.
I actually got him, and it may still be the only one, to admit he made a mistake.
Yeah.
With tweeting.
I was like, do you ever—I'm like, you're going nuts on Twitter.
And I'm like, do you ever just wake up the next day and be like, man, I wish I didn't tweet that?
He's like, yeah, I do.
And as far as I know, he's never admitted that man, I wish I didn't tweet that. He's like, yeah, I do. And as
far as I know, he's never admitted that he made a mistake in his life except that. So yeah.
Did you have other questions you want to ask him that you didn't?
No. So the thing with that interview is I found out about it, like, I don't know,
less than 24 hours before. Like I was on vacation and I had somebody on my team just like, hey,
Trump wants you to come interview him in the rose
garden and i we i've said this people obviously can agree disagree i'm like we try not to be
political right we because you're gonna piss somebody off and we're not like it's the old
michael jordan quote like you know republicans buy sneakers yeah by speakers like they all buy our t-shirts yeah it's like we're just trying to make money so uh i found out really short notice and i really had never interviewed anybody and we
had a couple of our team go and hit the trump people are like you can ask anything anything
anything anything um and we go and first of all it's crazy like mariano rivero is there it was i
think opening day uh It was all that.
And they're being super nice.
And then right up to the interview, all my guys couldn't come close.
And, like, 30 of his guys surround us.
And right before it started, they came up, like, don't ask about this, this, this.
I just kind of ignored it.
I got most of my questions out.
Like, people who like Trump are like, what a great interview.
People who don't like Trump is like,
you were doing softballs.
It's like,
I know nothing about politics.
Like how deep can I get?
The first question was a hardball,
but it was the compliment,
man.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it was surreal.
I'd never been to the white house,
the whole white house kind of mid or what?
No,
I liked it.
Really?
Yeah.
I'm like one of those weird,
like history.
How old are you?
38.
You're using mid, huh?
Thank you, bro.
Thank you.
That's crazy.
We've actually been trying to work on his vernacular.
That's crazy.
Why is it crazy?
Why is it crazy?
I think you're past the most.
What is mid?
I think mid means, like, not good.
Somebody came up to me and said it the other day.
And I was like, what is that?
I didn't expect it here, but it was like a teenager.
It was a teenager, yeah.
But you use it, right?
No.
Like when you buy shorts or like.
No, no, no.
Mid cut?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I guess.
I use it like, where is it?
It's in the middle.
Not like, not that way.
No, I'm a, I like the White House.
I'm kind of like a buff.
Was the White House?
Have they been on you about that?
No, no, but it's pretty lit.
Like, it's funny because he gets every type of thing wrong.
Like Oliver and Ackley doesn't know any.
I think he maybe used it right.
No, he didn't.
But I just didn't expect him to say it.
He did.
And now we've been trying to help him with it.
And then the one time he gets it right, you come in and go, fuck you.
You're still doing it? Yeah. Because I'll still do it. Not still. gets it right you come in and go fuck you yeah i shouldn't do it anymore no you're also going to use like cap
which he's going to call you yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah like so i do that i do that bff thing with
like so they'll throw words and i'm like i don't know i'll just start using it you know as a joke
like he's sharp the guy he's very good very good i did not expect it so yeah
this is the tiktok sensation right yeah basically that just came about like barcelona's been around
20 years yeah so tiktok i hate when any new social media comes out because like another thing to
worry about is irrelevant but nobody on tiktok knew who we were um and the charlie de mello
to dia mello i always get the name wrong i like that
family by the way but um she she was dating this dude little huddy they broke up something
happened it spilled into twitter yeah and it was going crazy the fact you're talking shit about
i'm gonna couch everything with i just want to make money yeah
his people i'm like what the fuck who are these people and his team reached out like
want to do an instagram live with him to he'll explain it and he was great we clicked and then
uh it i think snapchat reached out like you two want to do a Snapchat show?
It's like, no, I need his TikTok audience.
So that's how that came about.
But he's sharp.
He's good.
Yeah, he was good.
Yeah, you fired some talented people.
Yeah, no, he's good.
He don't work for us, I wish, but it's just like a collab.
Oh, really?
Yeah, no, we couldn't fucking.
Josh Richards is huge, huge.
Ah, so you guys are partnered on this podcast.
Yeah, we own it equally.
I like this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ah, so you guys are partnered on this podcast. Yeah, we own it equally. I like this.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
No, he's big.
The other thing that I was telling you before was the Call Her Daddy thing.
Yep.
Oh, yeah, you said you were responsible.
Yeah.
This is how.
Okay.
I was supposed to go on a date with Sophia.
Yeah.
With an F.
With an F.
With an F.
In case you didn't know.
No, I know.
And I had played in a basketball game, I think, or something.
I was like exhausted.
So I hit her up and was like, hey, can we reschedule?
Yeah.
And she was upset.
And she was like, I'm going to go on a date with somebody tonight.
Superman was who she went with?
Interesting.
Small world.
Yeah, I don't know.
I, I, sorry, man. Yeah, no, I listen. That was going to end probably poorly no matter what.
Ended up probably being good because they were to the left anyways. Right. And the controversy that ensued because of that, uh, probably ended up helping us a little bit. You think? Yeah,
a little bit. Yeah. You thrive in the... Well, it's like so
Call Her Daddy, when that debate
was going on, it's Call Her Daddy kind of... And we let
people do whatever they want at
Barstool. So a lot of the Call Her Daddy
crowd as I was growing up really didn't know
who I was or Barstool. They were just
Call Her Daddy fans.
And if they left as they were
planning to leave, it would have been a he said, she
said, and people would have believed, their crowd would have believed them.
They're not even listening to you.
Correct.
But when they got in that dispute, they just stopped podcasting.
They didn't put out an episode for two months.
And then you put out something on their feed.
And then I took their feed and I went live on it.
All these girls were like, oh, a new Call Me Daddy.
And they were like, wait. There wasn't a new one. There was all these girls are like oh a new caller daddy and they were like waiting there wasn't a new one
there was all these rumors and it's like two months there hasn't been an episode and suddenly
on a fee it's like oh new caller daddy is just fucking me for like 45 minutes and like here's
what's going on um so yeah it probably helped we got a lot of new fans and most people whether you
like me or don't like i, I come across as credible.
It's like he's telling the truth.
He's willing to talk.
He's not, like, even when you ask, is there anything I want to talk about?
I'll talk about anything.
There's no skeletons.
Well, there are skeletons, but I'll talk about them.
So it probably worked in her favor.
Can you lie if you need to?
No.
Have you seen Love on the Spectrum?
No. I'm hooked on this show
you know like well we love dating what channel is that it's on netflix but like we like dating
shows yeah so now they're they're making autistic people date and yeah yeah it's awesome wow
but uh but and and it's like beautiful because they just don't know how to lie.
Right.
They're like honest in every moment when they're anxious.
They're incredibly anxious.
And then like, you can tell they don't want to hurt feelings, but they just got to like say stuff.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And they're like, it's kind of really beautiful, but it's also refreshing because everything they say you believe is real.
Yeah.
I mean, doing it.
Are you autistic?
No, I'm not.
I'm not autistic, but with what we it. Are you autistic? No, I'm not. Are you on the spectrum?
I'm not autistic, but with what we do, if you lie, eventually.
They come for you.
And you're going to go down a path where you're exposed for lying.
Yeah.
No, I mean.
But I imagine this has always been you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm pretty, everything's out there for better or for worse.
Yeah.
And it's all out there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pretty much. And you've handled it better than everybody. Yeah, I'm pretty, everything's out there for better or for worse. Yeah. And it's all out there.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Pretty much.
And you've handled it better than everybody.
Yeah, I mean.
Better than everybody.
I appreciate that.
Again, it's, I've always said, when the truth is on your side, it allows you to.
To do whatever the fuck you want.
To be really honest.
We say the same thing.
It's like, there's all these people that know they didn't fuck up, but they're so scared of like losing a role.
Yeah, right. So like fucking, I always bring always bring up the ratatouille guy what's
his fucking name pat patrick yeah pat pat and oswald apologizes for being in a picture with
his friend chappelle and it's like it's crazy how that goes you're so worried about losing the
fucking role whatever like that that you don't realize the truth is on your side yep when the truth is on your side someone's trying to take your life away let them
fucking know yeah and it's all a lot of it's you know it's the same arena they know what they're
doing every every situation is totally different i handled my i would handle mine the same day one
or day like year 20 of doing my shit it's just it that's. It's like, oh, you want to say something about me?
And a lot of times I come over a lot heavier.
Well, they got to pay the price to talk.
Yeah, right.
That's what I like, is that most people just let them talk
and then hope it goes away.
You're like, if you're going to talk about me,
if you're going to take my life away,
your life is going to be difficult.
Totally.
So make sure you want this.
And that's like the number one thing that I find
are the people, like I've always said this, and this has been Barstool.
For some reason, there seems to be a belief that you can just throw stones or like chirp out of the cloud.
And then nothing happens.
Yeah, and then when you chirp back, people criticize me.
It's like, he has this big audience.
He should know.
It's like, I don't give a fuck.
I was minding my own business.
And you come at me.
What is my responsibility?
Like, I always say, don say don't like threaten to murder
somebody but if you come at me i'm not gonna like put you it's not my job to coddle you because i
have my audience it's like what do you fucking expect to happen yeah so i actually know the
name henry blodgett because and i only hear it in your accent he's an all-time cocksucker.
I mean, he is.
This is the Business Insider guy?
He owns Business Insider.
I mean, he's a crook.
The man is.
What business do they talk about?
There's no business.
I don't see articles about companies.
You could pay to be on their site.
They're a piece of shit.
He is banned by the SEC.
I mean, that's, I'm not.
He worked for, I think, was it Merrill or one of the big firms?
Yeah, yeah.
And he literally got caught, like, telling his clients, which were any, like, mom and pop people, like, buy this stock.
And then his emails being like, this stock is trash.
He got one of the biggest fines in the history, the SEC, and he's banned.
This guy is a legitimate crook.
Yeah.
And then he started Business Insider talking about Wall Street about wall street i guess they're scumbags um and he's the guy who
wants business insider which by the way uh people probably like what's he talking about their whole
model they're bought by a company that owns a german newspaper i think it's bilk their model
is well known it is just salacious headlines for clicks that's what do. And they coach it like they're this real business thing.
They're not.
They're trash.
And I paid a lot more attention since I've been involved with them.
But it's like every week it's somebody else that they're doing the same shit.
It's fucking wild.
And behind the paywall.
Behind the paywall.
Which is the most hilarious.
And then they advertise it everywhere.
It's like discount.
This guy's dangerous.
Pay $10 to see what.
Listen, I'm suing.
Right now, I'm suing them good which good for you literally every lawyer is like it's gonna be almost
impossible your public figure like in in what drives me nuts some of the shit they say so
they can just play dumb they can just be like we're a bad reporter what was said to us we didn't
do any bet someone's day pointed to this day pointed to that it's not
their job to to do the due diligence to see if it's the truth they may go we didn't know a source
yeah a source said that the source was lying to us yeah that's their fault not yours but i don't
give a fuck it's like i i need to see them in court i literally there's another publication i'm
not saying the name because i've learned i don't want to i don't want to connect the thoughts that's trying to do this like is doing the same oh same thing yeah
and i found out about it's the same like i'm getting all these girls being like dave what's
this about i ambushed the reporter at her house i found out where she lived i i did a fucking
stakeout for like five hours jumped Jumped out of the car.
You personally?
Yeah, me personally.
Wait, so you get in the car, you're sitting out there, you're watching the house.
It was like point break.
I was just sitting there watching.
Did you dress up?
I was just sitting there with me and my camera guy.
He's dressed for point break.
Yeah, I got like a 10-minute video.
She's in the publication they wrote there.
Like, we don't appreciate that we'll
talk to you when we're ready it's like fuck no it's like you're gonna write this public you'll
write the article and then you'll like business insider yeah spent a year digging up shit on me
and they found nothing yeah and then they gave me 24 hours 24 hours to be like what do you say
about this and that they wrote a second article i had a leak at business insider somebody sent me
the draft before they published it.
And they tried to do the same this time because they're so vague.
I don't even know what the fuck they're talking about.
But I had time to figure it out, the second article.
So when they said, hey, here's your 24 hours, I was like, bang, here's the facts.
Changed the total article.
If I didn't have the leak, there'd be things in there that are so
false and so over the top in things I did, they would have published it and be like, oh, we didn't
know. But because I had the leak, that's how fucked up the whole thing is. It's like, I literally have
an article that they were ready to publish. And if I didn't have a mole, they would have published
it. But since I had the mole, it gave me more time to be like, here's all the texts.
Here's everything.
Lie, lie, lie.
And so you were ready.
So the first time I had no clue who they were talking about.
So I got so blindsided.
I knew it was coming,
but I didn't know the details.
One of the girls,
their star girl in the first one,
who literally says in the article,
they're like,
we don't want,
she didn't want her name out there to protect themselves.
She went on TikTok, said who she was, launched an OnlyFans,
became top like 1%.
Full-blown porn star now. This girl
is in the article saying, I don't like to be filmed.
She's a full-blown
porn star. I'm not talking like
R-rated. She's like
as full-blown as you can be.
Like double team. You name it.
You gotta tell us after.
It's crazy. I don't care at this point but have they ever mentioned that like this is the girl
who's the lead cloud chasing yeah the lead headline yeah like oh you film me without consent
that's what i said to the reporter hat i mean it sounds rude when i ambushed the reporter she's
like do you film without consent i'm like if a girl's giving you head on her knees talking to the camera, would you say that's without consent?
She's like, no.
I'm like, here.
I'm like, do you want to see the video?
I'm like, I haven't.
She's like, no, no, no.
I don't want to see it.
It's like, well.
And what are we talking about?
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
It's crazy.
She's like, why haven't you said that?
It's like, I've been screaming it from the rooftops.
Why haven't you asked?
Correct.
Why did you go for a year and do all this research?
I have a video.
A girl videoed a conversation on my behalf in the report of this new one.
She's like, do you know his ex-wife at all?
Have you ever talked to her?
What's she like?
It's like, nobody's ever.
I was married to my ex-wife for five years.
She's still my best friend.
No one's not once reached out to her.
Be like, what kind of person is Dave?
Not once.
Because they don't want to know.
Anybody who says anything positive about me yeah
forget it they don't want it why do you think they're coming for you page views i mean i there's
a couple things i think i got viewed as political so like business insider only goes after people
they perceive you're on musk now yeah yeah well it was rogan yeah right anybody trump then rogan
and now they're doing musk and then you're percolating in that. I feel like, yeah, those are the lily pads.
Yeah.
They just keep jumping.
And I talk about it, which.
But you also go on like Fox and stuff like that.
Totally.
Because they'll be talking about something that aligns with something you feel.
It'll be like, and this is something that I am very careful with as well.
Yeah.
Is they can use you as a mascot for something that you agree with,
but then kind of wrap you into other political affiliates.
Totally, and I've always said that about me on the political side.
I hate politics.
I hate the extreme left.
I hate the extreme right.
You can ask me a question.
You're not going to know the answer based on what you think left or right.
That's not how I am.
Like, I mean, it's just not.
I remember I went on Fox one time with Tucker Carlson, and it was Kaepernick.
And it was when Nike signed him.
And I was like, to be honest, I think it's a great move by Nike.
I think the urban market is going to love it.
I think he's a perfect guy for them.
And I got crucified by people being like, he's trash in Kaepernick.
It's like they didn't even listen to what the interview said.
I was like, I think it's a great move.
But if you go on Fox, you're Hitler.
It doesn't matter what you say on Fox.
If you go on Tucker Carlson, they perceive you as Hitler.
And I've done my research on most of the people I go on,
and I don't find the smoking gun.
I keep going on.
And by the way, CNN or any of those people ask me on, I'll go on there.
No, I'll go on anywhere that i am like i
said fox is fucking huge they got a huge audience i'm trying to grow our audience yeah you ask me
on a big program i'm there with bells on yeah i'll be me yeah yeah yeah it is interesting though
that like certain places are so radioactive that's one of them but it's like he's a huge show but to
answer your question i also talk about yeah these articles and they put it behind a paywall. So when I'm screaming,
guess what? People want to read what I'm screaming about. So it actually,
in a weird way, plays into their hands. Yeah. And you only need a few thousand people to recoup
that investment. Correct. Yeah. Now, how do you think you've been politically polarized but barstool is neutral still yeah but
people i don't think view it that way really yeah i think they i think they view it as like guy
culture and like what is it locker room stuff like fun like ball busting but i don't think
anybody's like these are where the right wing can are. Oh, no. Really? Yeah.
But those are people who aren't paying attention.
But they do.
They do.
And we have everything.
I mean, listen, people think we're like racist white guys, some people.
We have the number one urban podcast in the country.
Bar none.
Like a million dollars worth of games.
Fucking huge.
And they're awesome.
But if you don't want to look there, you don't have to look there.
We have a female CEO.
People say I hired her just because she's female.
It's like, what are you?
It wasn't even.
Do you know who Jenna Marbles is?
Yeah.
So, like, she worked for me.
I discovered Jenna Marbles.
She's working at a tanning salon in Boston.
I hired her.
Yeah, this is wild.
And we started a site called Stoolala.
It was just the female version of Barstool.
We'd have a smoke show, prettystool we'd have smoke show pretty
girl she'd have smoke bro this is before anybody ever called us sexist right the only reason she
left is she got huge so like people just don't do the research on us we're just trying to make
people laugh and if you want to say we're equal opportunity haters fine yeah but like there's
never been somebody in our doors who have said, look, this, that, the other thing.
That's the Rogan thing.
We had Rogan on the other day, and it was just like, everybody who hates Rogan has never listened to an episode of Rogan.
Right.
They hate the idea that is presented of Rogan, and I think that's a lot of times what happens with you.
And if there is criticism of Barstool, it's probably that.
But if you're actually watching the content, it's apolitical.
Totally.
Who's the guy on, who's totally like who's the guy on who's
there's some guy on around the horn on espn he was talking about d on the other day and we d on
works for us yeah and he literally is like what was when they got that recruit he's like he makes
content with barstool makes me want to throw up it was like what are you fucking talking about dude
but it's it is i do think there's a perception out there, and I think that comes from me.
Like, by me going on Fox and me interviewing Trump, people aren't going to listen to what's said.
Like, the Trump interview, I tried to be as deep as I can be asking real questions, but whatever, it is.
Also, the N-word clip didn't help.
But that's crazy.
I would never do that again.
But the N-word clip you're talking about,
which was dug up during Black Lives Matter,
is so we had a Super Bowl party,
and it was, you can't compete.
We can't hire like Bieber or Taylor Swift.
We don't have those budgets.
So we're like, we're going old school. This was kind of before they were performed more we got ja rule and ashanti to
perform and i did this emergency press conference i'm like you'll never guess what we have i sang
and i sang their top five fucking songs fire fest one it was fucking a great show by the way
so we i'm like you'll never guess and i can't rap and i'm like i'm gonna sing
the one minute of their five best songs yeah i sang the n-word in the thing
i think most white people sing along the n-word never right never but that's why it's like to be honest like i don't think i'm the biggest idiot
in the world i knew it was going online it wasn't like they caught me saying it like to a buddy i've
never said that i sang it put it out and i'm like go i didn't hear a word for five years nobody ever
brought that up yeah be all i'm happening all of a sudden, the headline's like, Dave says the N-word.
It's like, I definitely learned I'd never sing it, never say it in that context again, quote.
But I wasn't like, to be canceled basically for that, it's like, and I got into a thing with Willie Colon who worked.
It's like, I've learned, I won't do it.
It's tough for me to apologize because there was no hate.
It's like, I fucked up, but really, I've been online for 20 years.
I've written a blog every day.
I've never, this is your clip that I'm announcing Ashante and Ja Rule.
And you were killing the song too.
You were singing while you were flowing. You were kind of killing it.
No, don't do that.
Don't do that.
You killed me.
Yeah, like a bad one. You're right.
That perception perceives.
And they're going to run with that.
There's a,
but how much fun was it to say?
No,
no,
no,
no,
no,
no.
We,
we also have a terrible Kaepernick clip that I,
I,
to this day,
even though you're pro taking the knee.
Yeah.
No,
I, I listen. Or you think it's better than the the type of protests that was happening uh with looting and that kind of
stuff you're like this looting looting is bad at any time anytime there's silent protest yeah
let it go it that's what this country is built on yeah like at some level like if you look at it you know
it's a it's you can go into so many different directions like this but things have to change
like in this country there's always had to be changed i mean we had fucking slavery in this
country so what if someone was protesting that you didn't agree with is like what's this guy
protesting but if you they cut the clip and it continues like oh he's actually protesting police
brutality yeah and we continued in the same clip to be like you know what yeah if you want to
protest that go for it but it was like a real conversation guys sitting around like what's he
that's how we talk like what's he doing that for yeah when we did the research like you know what
in this country that's the beauty of this country yeah you're allowed to protest for causes like
that we needed change with the
police and how they deal with african-american community they need it do i think blm went too
far with like you know you talk see the lady who fucking stole funds and looting and people
who probably didn't actually care about the cause using it and hijacking it just like kind of me too
yes but it absolutely had to happen people that, that clip, everything you see there, be like, Dave's a racist, he's whatever.
It's like, I'm not.
And people, of course, I'm going to say I'm not.
It's me.
Like, even if you are racist, everyone's like, I have this black friend or whatever.
I'm fucking not.
And I'm far more on social causes.
To the left.
To the left.
Yeah.
But if you called yourself a comedian, do you think you would get away?
I've said Barstool is a comedy site.
Barstool is a comedy site.
But if you were like, oh, I am like an internet comic.
Like I'm an entrepreneur.
If you watch that original clip, I don't think there's anybody in the world who with a straight face can say they weren't trying to be like funny.
They talk about it in a comedian.
It's like, you know what?
When the show is out, it's like we want to be part of my take meets like the Chelsea Handler like setup.
Like come around with subjects.
But I do admit when I go on Fox News and I'll interview Trump, like I get taken.
Like Nelk.
You guys all know Nelk?
Yeah, of course.
They'd fuck Trump.
Like that's how much they love Trump.
But they don't get the blowback I get.
They're at the convention doing a YMCA.
Yeah.
And I don't.
I literally was on their show Yeah, and I don't.
I literally was on their show being like, I wouldn't vote for Trump if he ran again.
I think he's too divisive.
Like, I just don't want to see the country tear apart.
I don't like Biden.
I think he's a terrible president. But for the sake of, like, this country and people, like, holding hands and not fucking hating each other.
Yeah.
Because he's intentionally divisive trump so right again people can listen to what they want to say about me like
the abortion shit and we're going down like i i feel more something i feel fox news people hate
it for me because it's like i that is a issue to me it's like i would never tell a woman what to
do with their body i think it's insane that you would ever try to overturn that. Those issues are more important to me than like the financially conservative.
People just don't have an understanding of who I am.
Like I say, each issue I feel differently and I don't care left, right.
I view it like straight on.
And the people that know you know that.
What's interesting is that you don't get any support from the left when you support.
They give me none.
They fucking want,
they just want to rip my throat out.
It actually makes me,
a lot of what Elon has said lately,
it's like, I know how you feel, buddy.
He's like, they're making me hate the left.
That's the hardest part is that like,
it's easy.
And I'll talk to Joe about this too.
It's like, it's very easy
when one side clearly wants to ruin your life
and the other side is embracing
it's easy to fall into that embrace
you have to be incredibly diligent
that you don't become right wing
because then you'll lose all the people who might be
middle to the left
that like the fact that you're a player
a lot of fans have been with me forever
so it's like they know
who I am
you can't pull like you said a lot of people
know that enclave the the kaepernick thing you know it it literally it just we were talking about
but if you have no idea why he's protesting.
Yeah.
And at that time, the biggest thing going on in this country wasn't BLM or anything like that.
It was like terrorists and shit like that.
That was like front of mind.
Guys kneeling for the nationalists.
Like, what is going on here?
Who do you think affected America more?
Oh, my God.
Who?
What do you mean?
The terrorists or capitalists?
Capitalists or someone. No, my God. What do you mean? The terrorist of Kaepernick. Kaepernick or the Zion one.
Listen.
No, no, no.
Kaepernick's been great.
I honestly, truthfully, when he first did it, I'm like, if he was a starting quarterback, would he be doing that?
I honestly thought that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know.
You got less to lose.
But whatever reasons or whatever prompted or whatever, it needed to happen.
All right, guys, we're going to take a break for a second because I got to make sure y'all don't go bald.
Simple as that.
Fellas, it's a choice now.

All right, guys, we're going to take a break for a second
because I got to make sure y'all are getting your nutrients, okay?
I got to make sure you're getting your nutrients.
And you know what I can make sure?
I can make sure it's delivered right to your door

gonna offer and by we i mean freshly is gonna offer our listeners 125 off your first five orders
when you go to freshly.com slash flagrant that's 125 off at freshly.com slash flagrant go indulge
in that you're welcome let's get back to the show these two need to happen that's another one like
i got accused of supporting Harvey Weinstein.
He's the fucking worst human who ever lived.
Yeah.
We talked about that when it came out.
We got to the point where the people who didn't like us listened to everything we said.
Really?
That's the Howard Stern thing.
We had like, but they clip it and release it.
Oh.
Not they listen to it longer. So we used to have a two-hour radio show every day do you that we do
10 things I'm not just a radio guy I jump on we talk for two hours who the fuck knows what we're
saying in two hours supposed to be comedy but like our enemies would record it and they'd wait
so like Harvey Weinstein when that all happened we prefaced it biggest scumbag in the
world he should go to jail this isn't about harvey weinstein hypothetically speaking if you're a
hollywood agent and you're a young actress you're both willingly like want to do a trade like yeah
there's no pressure none the girl's like you're gonna put me in an a-list star role yeah i'll
sleep i'm happy there's no complaints after should that be legal that was what we asked and they turned it into like that's not what harvey weinstein did he's a fucking
basically a rapist deserves everything he got but you know it's it's i haven't been careful i guess
because of the kaepernick thing but it i i don't think you know you should be allowed to talk about
things without being shamed.
I think what happens is you reach a certain level of influence and people are afraid of influence.
And I think that's, you know, clearly that happened with Rogan.
I think that happened with you.
And that happened with a lot of people that can move culture.
You know, if politicians are seeing the amount of, like, power you actually have to, like, sway public opinion and they don't have a way to control you, they have
to make you radioactive. Now, if they had a way
to control you, they don't have to make you radioactive.
Right? They go, hey, Dave, we know you
did some crazy shit. You better...
Yeah, it's crazy. I got in a
debate with AOC. Like, AOC...
The unions thing, right? Yeah, what was the
AOC? Unions. She loves unions.
So... She never
had a union job her life.
She was a bartender.
What does she know about the unions?
I have nothing against unions. That's the perfect example.
I don't understand
how she understands.
The idea of a union, I think, is noble.
You need unions. This country
needed unions. You had manufacturing jobs,
people working a million hours a day.
You needed it.
But I had Deadspin, which is the worst company that ever fucking lived.
They're the worst.
All they do is fucking bitch and moan and try to fucking get, clout chase us.
They're the fucking worst.
And they change.
Gawker, all these.
Well, I've been around for 20 years, Marcel.
They've been around for 20 years. So I they've been around for 20 years so I fucking hated them
for basically close to 20 years
and they created
and they created
they created a union
and it's like guess what they fucking
still went out of business all their writers got
fucking fired because they're talentless fucking
losers in my business
you don't need a union if you're talented
you get a job like You don't need a union. If you're talented, you get a job.
Yeah.
Like you don't need it there,
but fine.
Every industry is different.
They all got fired.
And the unions,
like we're getting fucking not treated right.
And I made a joke about them.
I'm like,
where's your union now?
Tough guys.
They're not,
you're still all getting fired.
It was just anything I can do to needle deadspin.
I'm going to do.
AOC comes out of the fucking clouds.
I'd never talked to her.
I barely knew who she was and tweeted at me like, you can't be anti-union, whatever.
I'm like, oh, all right, here we go, AOC.
So I started going back with her.
People were filing complaints to the National Labor Relations Board.
I had to agree to issue like an apology, being like, if people want to create a union at barstool they could it's so fucked up our guys tried to create a fake union and trick
like the people who hated me be like dave's trying to shut down a union like and then there's
articles actually treating that as a real as a That's how fucked up our world is.
I saw the headline, and I thought that was real.
No, fuck no.
It was like my friends just fucking with the media.
But isn't that crazy?
Yes.
Isn't that crazy that I did?
That's how fucked up it is.
Oh.
Yeah.
And you got tricked, and you're Gen Z.
You know what I mean?
I'm all about the internet, dude.
I got all the apps.
I think I said, I treat our guys at locker room.
It's like, oh, these guys want to fucking create a union.
I'll quit and see how their union does.
Like what you were talking like, but we bust balls.
That's what we do.
But people take what we say internally.
And that's something that as we've grown, you know, we start, it was me.
Then there's two guys and there's three guys.
And we're just sitting around a room with a camera,
internet 1.0, no one's paying attention.
And we continued to talk like that as we continued to grow
and the world continued to change.
Things got taken differently, sometimes out of context.
Again, it's like, I think we're joking.
I don't mean to offend people.
That Kaepernick, that whole story I just told,
would we do it now?
Not in a fucking million, zillion years.
But your intentions aren't bad.
Correct.
And by the way, nobody said a word about it.
Until it was time.
Until BLM happened.
And it wasn't just us.
It was a lot of people.
They went back.
It's like, what have, I've always said, said all right we've been doing this for 20 years if you think we are as mean spirited and hated and bigoted and racist as you think we are yeah i think you'd have a couple more examples than what you were able to do in 20 years of
we don't deadspin an example gawker they deleted their entire twitter like they went back to lead
it all i haven't
deleted dick like everything i've said for 20 years is there go wow yeah go find it you're
brave man wow i know what i say what i don't say i know when people are lying about me because it's
like i don't talk like that i know when they're not lying about but it's like you know it is what it is. It is what it is. Early days.
Yeah.
Barstool.
There's some interesting stories about how you got the whole thing started.
But even before that, I heard there were three business ideas that you had outside of college.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A furniture company.
But this is, I think, potentially lucrative.
It's called Barstool.
The furniture company.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Everyone is doing Barstool. No, it it was the furniture and the scouting company okay
but the furniture was so the furniture was if anybody who's ever gone to college knows semester
ends streets become littered with furniture they've thrown out so i'm like you know what i'm
gonna get trucks i'm gonna go pick all this furniture up for free warehouse it put it online
and then sell it back to these students when they move in.
So that was one.
That was number one.
Number two.
Next step, scouting.
So this, I built the software.
I paid people to build it.
You actually built it?
Yeah, I built the software.
I had a business plan.
I had everything.
It was, again, you got to remember when I started, the internet was like.
Infancy.
Yeah, it was going.
So this was a recruiting agency.
So I played baseball in high school.
I was good, not great.
Could play D3, maybe if I was lucky, D1.
But it was built for the guys or girls not being recruited to play big-time college sports.
But Division III coach still wants to win.
So the goal was connect an athlete with a coach. to play like big time college sports, but division three coach still wants to win.
So the goal was connect an athlete with a coach. So the coach go into the database,
search his area, see who's in there. And we pay local scouts. Like every high school has people,
people go to every game. So you get like 10 bucks, you fill out a scouting report on a player,
you put it in and it connects the coach with the player, school, everything. So you can see, you can see who's in your area, who wants to go where, what they're like, watch video
on them.
That was, I built that database, yeah.
And then the third idea is a gambling newspaper.
That's what we are, yeah.
So the third-
Which of those three you think was going to be your success?
So the easiest one for me to start was the gambling newspaper, which is what I started.
But you thought that that was going to be the- Yeah, that's where I started it. Oh, really? Yeah. That's what, Bar to start was the gambling newspaper, which is what I started. But you thought that that was going to be the most successful?
Yeah, that's why I started it.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Barstool was a gambling newspaper.
So I've always gambled.
At the time Barstool started.
Oh, I figured you would have thought the scouting thing would have been the best.
No, there were so many different people involved in it.
It was really hard.
You had to go get the scouts and the coaches.
And then the way it worked, the parents would pay.
That's how you made money.
Parents would play to add their kid to the database. But no,
I thought I talked to all these offshore sports books and I was like,
what do you guys need? I'm interested in this industry.
I actually flew to Vegas, met with like marketing people at casinos to see,
how do I get in involved in the industry?
The offshore sports books said the internet was too cluttered at the time.
If you went on a gambling site, it was like fireworks.
And it looks like you got your credit card stolen, basically.
They were so cluttered.
They're like, we don't want to be online.
We want to be in a physical newsletter.
If you have that, we'll advertise.
So I sold like a year's worth of advertising before we launched.
Oh, OK.
And that basically gave me time to figure out our formula,
which went from straight gambling to more men's interest.
Like put a girl on it.
I put Jessica Biel on the cover one time, blatantly illegal.
It's like, whatever.
No one's paying attention to what we're doing.
And when I did that, everyone's like, more girls, please.
More girls.
And we started morphing.
We used to be like in Boston a localized Maxim we get a local
girl do a full blown photo
shoot and she'd be a girl from Boston
yeah and that's how
it's hard to find
you'd be surprised
that's more racist
stereotypical
cancel that
cancel that you don't like freckles is stereotypical. Cancel that right now. Cancel that.
You don't like freckles?
What's wrong with freckles
on some dead?
There's pretty girls in Boston.
Even you don't believe that.
No, I do.
You can lie.
I absolutely do believe.
Where's your girlfriend from again?
Where's she from?
Yeah, yeah.
She's from Miami.
She was born in columbia
anyhow
that that that opened the doors it's like uh once we start putting the
they were pretty uh you know advertisers were like i thought when we did the advertising
you know sports teams casinos be like would be like, how do we advertise?
How do we advertise?
They didn't.
They didn't give a fuck.
They're like, well, at Foxwoods, big casino.
Mohegan Sun, big casino.
They're like, we advertise with the Red Sox.
We already reach the sports crowd.
We don't need you.
I put a pretty girl.
They're like, wait a minute.
Because there was, yeah, they're like, if he knows what pretty girls are, that's where the guys are going.
So that opened up the advertising for us.
Wow. So people would be like, he's sexist. No. It's trial and are. That's what the guys are going to do. So that opened up the advertising for us. Wow.
So people be like, he's sexist.
No, it's trial and error.
That's what-
The companies are sexist.
That's what brought us money.
So that's what we did.
And as Barstool begins to grow,
is there anything that like creatively
you're a perfectionist about?
No.
It is outcome- Driven, outcome driven yeah yeah every single time right
well our biggest advantage that we've had over the course of our existence is being quick and nimble
be like if it will try anything that work move to the next try next thing doesn't work it works go
and go like hard and don't think about it and just go and that's like i'm trying like obviously the
pizza thing
pizza saturday for the boys or something that like just exploded we did a concert tour that like so
um from 2004 to 2010 we were only in in downtown boston and i was like i gotta get out of downtown
boston and see do our do we have fans other places? So we did a six city, I guess you call it, music tour.
Because it was like, I need a sponsor for the tour.
And what can let a liquor company get involved?
Because it could be over 21, music.
They can put their name on music.
So we got this dude, Sammy Adams.
No one had heard of him at the time, but he was from my neck of the woods.
Paid him 20 grand for six shows we went to umass uri uh like quinnipiac toads six places all around new england umass we're going to a bar these are all bars of the beer he's a play off of the beer
yeah yeah off of sam adams yeah but his name's actually sam adams oh that's his real name yeah oh wow this guy loves history he loves history no he's like he was pretty big he
was he's i got a song with like enrico inglesis yeah um not enrico jr whatever he blew up yeah
uh so we were going all bars yeah and the school the school umass called me and like, what is this?
We called it Stula Palooza.
And they're like,
what is this?
All the students are calling being like,
can we buy tickets?
We don't even know what they're talking about.
Like,
we're just going to a bar down the road,
but we called it UMass,
but we're not,
it's not affiliated.
It's like,
would you ever be willing to do it at the Mullen center,
which is their basketball arena?
I was like,
we can't do it there.
It's like,
what are you talking about? We can't afford afford that they came up with some deal and we
sold out in five seconds and that kind of that was eye-opening hold on hold on this is when you're
still in newspaper stage or you've moved in we we had we had the blog so we were all we newspaper
and the website you're getting analytics on the blog? No. So you don't know how many fucking people are reading.
No, correct.
And this is the first time you find out.
And we showed up in all these tours, sold out in a second.
We showed up on campus.
People had our signs in the windows.
It was like, holy.
Do they know what you look like yet?
Yeah.
Are they like following you on Facebook and that kind of shit?
Yeah, yeah.
But I didn't know.
They knew, but I didn't know they knew.
It was eye-opening. So
that was 2010. And that was the first time it's like, holy shit, we have something way bigger
than maybe I really realized that we had. And it's funny. So that's the first time we made real
money. I thought, this is, geez, we have kind of a talent that people know, but they don't really
know. I'm going to blow this the fuck up and i
hired so our next tour i call back to stool so we just do a blues of the second round um and on it
headliner was mike posner shades cooler than me wale mac miller um i paid 1500 bucks for mac
miller six years that's how early so we were so plugged into the college scene.
I was like, who's coming up?
And I was like, this dude, Mac Miller, this dude, Mac Miller.
So $1,500, six shows.
I paid almost $100,000, I think, a show for Posner, who had like the number one song.
Oh, that was I Love College, right?
No, that's Sammy Adams and Asher Roth.
Sam Adams had a take on that.
I hate college.
Yeah.
Anyhow.
No, Cooler Than Me, Shades.
Yeah, yeah.
The song was that.
So, and I rented out huge buildings like DCU, like big, big buildings.
Sold the same amount of tickets as West.
Wow.
I thought we were going to a business, actually.
And what I learned from that, our people going didn't give a fuck about the talent. They cared about us.
And then we came out with a third version of it, which is called the Blackout Tour,
which was early EDM. Avicii played our shows.
And again, we weren't paying. It was so fucking early. And it blew up.
It became the biggest thing in the country. And are you the one that's finding these artists?
Are you talking to people on the team?
Like, who's got their—
We just send an email, tell us who's hot.
And everyone would be like, this guy, that guy, this guy.
It was crazy.
I was clearing during the Blackout show.
I thought I was going to—
I was making between $250,000, $500,000 a night.
Like, into my pocket.
Wow.
But we also started causing riots. like we came to new york
the police commissioner was asked about us at a press conference like what are you gonna do to
stop the barstool blackout it was nuts we had news crews following our around yeah and as it was
going i'm like holy shit i'm gonna be like a billionaire and i'm investing all in production
lights like you it it looked like a full-blown like you go to an edc type like we were doing that
and as quick as it came it went away for a variety of reasons which was a the artists themselves
became so big it went we'd be the only edm show at a place for a month where suddenly there were five a week and we were well we were playing
avicii's music you could pay the same to see avicii the next day so every and we like there
were a lot of ods and shit at a lot of these at a point and if someone died or got hurt no one ever
mentioned that they mentioned us because we pick up the phone.
We had our name on it.
You don't know who to complain about at a concert with us.
The insurance went through the roof.
So when it was all said and done, we probably broke about even on the Blackout tour.
But it helped fund a lot of the things that propelled us to the next stage.
So at this point, you're like, people really fuck with what we're doing.
Correct.
And they fuck with us.
They're not fucking with the talent necessarily that we're bringing on
as musicians. We are tapped into the culture here. Correct. You're in build mode, I imagine.
Yes. How do you take it from regional to everybody in the world knows about Barstool?
That's never been totally planned out. But so essentially, we start in Boston.
I got to the point and it helped i got a little free
money with these tours where it's like i can afford other people's like let's replicate what
we have so we started chicago new york uh philadelphia and a lot of guys still there so
you know big cat in chicago kfc in new york committee they're they're yeah they're all still still with us yep um and i we stayed there from 2010 to 2000 and uh what are we about 16 2000
six years just growing like and making more than i ever thought i'd it's like all right full-time
job i'm never gonna have to do something else i like this in uh the churning group there's do you
guys know jared lorenzo and he was like played for the Jets. Lefty. Yeah, hefty lefty. Pillsbury throw boy. Passed away, but awesome dude.
And we became friendly with him.
One day he's like, hey, my agent's friend wants to talk to you about Barstool.
Will you be down to talk to him?
I'm like, sure.
I always had requests like this.
Different VCs or whatever.
None of them serious.
But this guy was at Yahoo.
He ran Yahoo Sports.
Went to Turner Group.
I talked to him on the phone. He's like, will you meet with me? I'm like, sure. He flew from Sports, went to churning group. I talked to him on the phone.
He's like, will you meet with me? I'm like, sure. He flew from San Francisco to Boston the next day.
So you know he's serious. He's basically like, if I gave you money, what would you do with it?
Investment. And I was in Boston. We're all spread out. I'm like, you know, I think a kind of blog
reality situation would work. Like, house us all all in one spot? And let's just make content,
turn the cameras off. Like, no one really does that. And he's like, all right, yeah,
I think that could work. And the only thing I'm like, you can't, I'm in control of content.
I sold 51% of it to them, but I had final say on everything, on content. So that, and I hired
Erica Nardini, our CEO, because we needed help on that.
She was the perfect hire.
And that was like putting gas basically, you know, on a fire.
It, we already had this underground base, but we're so like to advertise with us or
do anything you, you needed to like call in a favor, basically.
Like you, people be like, we want to advertise.
Like, I don't fucking care.
I'm not going to deal with you.
I was happy with how we were doing doing and it just really exploded from 2016 to
2020 when we sold it to penn okay at what point is your dad proud he he was proud
keep in mind my god my dad is a guy who if he sees an article on espn up till like three weeks ago
would try to fax me the article as opposed to so how old is your pop he's 70s early 70s okay my
pops my pops 80 yeah so i mean yeah he it probably took like if we started i started this thing in
2004 2010 but a lot of like how's this person know you?
How's that person know?
He gets it now.
I gave him his own show on Sirius for a bit just to keep him happy.
He's going to get mad about that comment.
But he gets it.
I was able to buy them a place to help out my sister.
So he gets it.
Is he vocal?
Is he like, does he say, hey, I'm really proud of what you're doing?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And he recognizes the magnitude of what you've created?
Or is there a generational rift?
He gets it now.
He gets it now.
How can you not?
Not saying that in an arrogant way, but we're talking like the Celtics.
I'm sitting next to Draymond Green.
How can you see it?
But that's how they reference things, right?
It's like, he must be doing well because he's at this institution that I recognize only people who are doing well.
And like the Trump interview, for example.
Yeah.
He hates Trump.
Yeah.
Like poison.
Yeah.
And I didn't tell him I was interviewing him.
And then I FaceTimed with Trump.
Be like, Dad, you got anything to say?
Yeah.
He froze up like.
But it's like my son's like FaceTiming me with the president of the United States.
If you don't get it, then, you know, you're not going to probably get it.
But he's super proud and they've been super supportive.
Were you close?
Is he your introduction to sports?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
So so he goes, hey, we're playing baseball.
He's oh, yeah.
He huge sports guy like all of these terrible sports.
But we're a big sports family.
Huge.
My mom too.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
And is she more keyed into what you're doing than your pops?
So she'd know about the internet a little bit more and know.
No, they're, they're, they're both about equal.
I mean, listen, that's the thing that I love not to, to riff, but like we talk about business
side or all that shit, Like they don't get or.
It doesn't reach them.
No,
they don't.
It does.
I like the business side.
They don't get the effect.
Make the making shit up.
It does.
Like my parents have to read that shit.
My girlfriend's parents.
Yeah.
Who I hadn't met yet.
Yeah.
The first thing they're reading is shit like that.
Like,
who is it?
Did they see any of your videos
my dad my dad my dad my parents didn't my parents didn't mention the videos for months yeah and we
went out to dinner one night oh no and my dad looks at me he goes did you do that like the
kardashians on purpose and i was like are you fucking kidding me i would leak that
on purpose like with you i don't know so that's the only time we really that we've talked do you
think that they've watched it no i don't think bro they're oh they're definitely no no like you
want to see what you're kidding you know like i have to again i'm before these like the bi articles
came out i call i knew i'm like hey this is coming out. It's all bullshit. And they know. I mean, anybody who knows me knows.
So, but it's still, you know, I don't like it.
I don't like walking around with people who don't know me making assumptions like this
guy's a fucking crazy person.
Like, that sucks.
And then they have to come up to you and say like, one bite, everyone knows the rules.
And they're like, well, which type of bite?
Yeah.
The day my first sex tape leaked. My first sex tape leaked it's like an hour that was the weirdest every i've never i couldn't go a step
without somebody being like saw a tape so i'd say some of you like good job this like yeah it was
i mean it's weird because the guy who who is like a sex tape broker who did the Kardashian tape, did Paris, loves me.
So he's now, if something comes up, he gives me a heads up.
He's like, just so you know, people are shopping this shit.
It's like, thanks, man.
How can they shop it?
I don't understand the value of that.
You can't.
You can leak it.
Like, that's one thing to make clear.
Like, we get taken down.
Right.
You'll know someone's making money on it.
Yeah, because I would have to sign off on that, like, being made my, like, the Kardashian thing.
She had to sign off on that or else it couldn't have been, you know, used the way it was used.
So she's acting like, woe is me, someone leaked this.
No fucking way.
It's not going to Vivid and all those things unless she signed off.
Because you could come for them. yes like no i i that you ours thank god because i don't give a fuck
about me like honestly but they're pretty old sex tapes and i never was like oh people are
gonna want to watch me fuck like that never crossed my mind and i feel bad for the girls
right like no again it's one of think you've gotten better at sex sense?
No.
I think that's one of those things.
If you're like, if you're fucking 90-
That was my pride.
Yeah, if you're 90 and it's like your pictures came back,
oh, I want to throw a 99.
No, you got what you got.
Put it-
Oh, you're right.
Oh, sorry.
You can call.
No, but I feel awful.
Again, there are people who are trying to get at me with no regard.
For the girl.
Correct.
And in the guise of protecting the girl.
Yeah.
Right.
And it's like, I don't give a fuck.
You're not hurting me.
Everything's out there.
I've had the worst things said about me.
People see me in moments I would prefer not to.
But you're not, the damage you're going to're gonna do is actually like girl not the fucking name
those tapes didn't really hurt you no well um you're just a wild boy
how many girls from portland dm'd you after this yeah right it's like the old uh one of my favorite
i've one of the roasts is a hasselhoff roast. And I forget which comedian said, but like, how do you roast a guy whose life I wouldn't, you know, I've been wildly
lucky, beats working a 9-5
which I was doing, but I can
see how, I mean it's crazy
the things they've written about me is, as you can
see people are like, why does he shop about it?
I was like, why does someone call you a rapist and see how you handle it?
Like if you're gonna fucking shut up
about it.
Is there a weird freedom though, like once you get
past that?
Like once the worst thing that anybody can say is said and then everybody doesn't believe it?
Yeah.
I'd like to think, but it really fucking still bothers me.
Everyone's like, why do you get so mad about it?
It just is. I mean, I think the number one thing, and this is before it came out, that people liked or they're like, ooh, I like how he does that.
And again, it's not something
i knew was gonna be public but hbo did like a little inside sports on us yeah i have champagne
bottles in my office oh yeah ingrained with people i hate yeah on a business i just wait
to pop them and then again it's just that's like me yeah this was before the bi shit yeah um so
yes some people may be like, oh, I can't.
That's my nature.
It's maybe East Coast, whatever.
Like, I hold long grudges.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Long.
Do you have champagne bottles in your office right now?
Yeah.
Really?
Is that what motivates you?
Yeah.
I think it is.
Really?
Yeah.
I think I, like, thrive on hate.
That's some MJ shit, bro.
Yeah, it's like, it's weirdly, like, if they just left me alone, if they have that big of a problem, I kind of go away. You wouldn't have the motivation. Yeah, it's like... That's like MJ shit, bro. Yeah, it's like weird. For real. It's weirdly like if they just left me alone,
if they have that big of a problem,
I kind of go away.
You wouldn't have the motivation.
Yeah, but they keep like...
Bernard Hopkins,
you remember the boxer?
Yeah, yeah,
he said something very similar.
What was his exact quote?
He was basically saying
that like he needed the beef
to motivate him
and when he became the face,
like when everybody started
loving Bernard Hopkins
and he's a guy,
he's like,
I don't have that drive
that I had.
I need everyone to hate me.
I need to take the Puerto Rican flag, stomping in Puerto Rico.
Everybody throwing fucking plantains at him and shit.
And then go and beat Tito Trinidad and knock him out in the 12th round.
And for athletes, I mean, it's kind of like Brady fucking crying when he's talking about getting drafted.
Like the six guys that had him.
I don't know.
It is, it's different.
The hate that I've gotten recently was such a different level.
Yeah.
Like, I can ration.
I get, like, the stuff we talked about, the rundowns, the Kaepernick.
I get it.
I can see how I get what I said looking back.
It's like, yeah, he, I think if you really sit down and talk to me,
like, I kind of get what he's saying.
The other stuff, they're crimes.
Yeah.
It's a different level. Yeah, you're saying I basically committed a crime a crime and it just didn't happen and not only did not happen there's
text messages where they're just didn't put oh they should go to jail for this yeah i 100 because
if you're trying to take my life away then what's the cost for you 100 whatever could happen there's
a yo-yo report of the first one to the second one is, this girl had never written an article.
Yeah, no, no.
Putting someone that's on, like, you're trying criminal cases in the media.
And it's almost with the Elon.
I'm not the Elon.
Excuse me, with the Johnny Depp.
It's the Johnny Depp.
It's like, if you want to go to court, go to court, do it like how they did.
But to try these cases in the media, it's insane.
Washington Post, in my mind, should be held responsible for publishing that.
No doubt.
And outside of legal retribution, do you protect yourself mentally any other way from the onslaught from those publications?
No, the only thing is I know what I've done.
So I don't really give a fuck what people who don't know me think about me.
I do want the revenge and things like that but uh you know i know what i've done and what i haven't
done and yeah that's that's it it's like i it's it's just not true at all so it is what i wonder
if the the dev herd trial changes things a little'm curious. Because now there's a price attached to lying.
Lying costs $7 million now, $8 million.
But it was, everything's different.
Because for my thing in particular, there's no way.
These girls, the statements they use is like,
I felt like he was being aggressive.
They didn't say it.
They didn't do anything.
They talked to me for three years.
But I can't prove.
That they didn't feel.
It's crazy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And as fucked up as it is, the first BI, this is going deep, but they wrote that article. I proved in my mind, clearly it's all fake.
And they're like, are they going to take it down?
And I asked, like, no, because now it's a news story.
So even though it's not true, the fact that it's become news.
It's not true, it's news.
Yeah, yeah. But it's like, but they wrote it.
It's just crazy.
Do you ever, do you ever think that you'll have a family?
I'd like to.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But it has to be right.
What is right?
I don't know.
I hopefully will know it.
Yeah.
But I don't know.
Yeah.
We're looking for more answers.
No, I'm just curious.
I mean, I'm getting old, obviously, but.
No, you're getting old, but also like, I don't know, you have this, it seems like you really care about your pops.
And he probably, you know, did a good job bringing you up.
Yeah, I mean, I want to have kids for their behalf.
But also maybe for what you could bestow on them.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's got to be right.
I mean, it's got to be right.
My life's been a crazy life i like it i like having the freedom i have right now which is like you know traveling all over the place and do whatever i want at the drop of a hat but yeah
no it you know again a lot of people i was married for five years yeah i'm dated for five before so
i've had a bunch of different lives to be totally but you could be okay not having kids too
yeah i'm not sitting there being like damn i'm fucked if i don't have kids yes right right right I've had a bunch of different lives to be totally honest. But you could be okay not having kids too. Yeah.
I'm not sitting there being like, damn, I'm fucked if I don't have kids.
Yes.
Right, right, right.
And you could be okay with retiring and not having kids.
You have this insane amount of energy, right?
And when the focus is put towards somebody that's coming after you or beefing or building a business,
you've had a pretty good track record.
Right.
I'm,
I,
I relate to this in terms of like,
I like intense focus on this.
Right.
I'm curious about what the later half of my life looks like when I stopped
this.
Like,
yeah,
right.
What do I do with that energy?
Can I relax on a beach?
Can I chill?
I think I can.
People have always said they don't think I can,
but I think I can.
I like just watching fucking TV, laying by a pool or a beach and betting on horses.
Like, that's, I like doing that.
I don't know.
I think I could.
Yeah.
I don't know.
But you're right.
You get an itch.
You want to get back and build another business.
So I've been doing this for 20 years.
So it's hard for me.
You know, I've been, again, it's all I've done.
People are always like, oh, is he a good businessman or get lucky or what is combo?
What?
It's like, this is basically the only thing.
I love the, he got lucky.
It's like, yeah, everybody gets lucky.
Nobody doesn't have luck.
You need it.
But that's not why you're not successful.
So I don't know because I've been, I haven't had time to really think about anything but this for the last 20 years.
All right, guys, we're going to take a break for a second because, you know, listen, the crypto market is reeling.
It's reeling.
I'm not going to lie.
I like buying when shit is cheap.
And I like buying with a platform I trust.
And I like being able to take my little crypto off the Internet so nobody tries any fucking hacking attempts to take my shit.
Where am I going to do that? I'm going to do it with Exodus. Plain and simple. Exodus,
best company to do it with. Okay. They allow you to buy crypto, stake crypto, store NFTs.
They got 150 different crypto assets that you can fuck with. Everything on their platform,
the all-in- one place for all of your
crypto needs. It's a no brainer. It's a no brainer. Now I know what you're thinking. A lot of these
places you're buying crypto, you're getting hit with these crazy fees. This is the other thing
that Exodus is going to do for you is if you use, if you go to Exodus.com slash zero Z E R O,
think about that. You go to Exodus.com slash zero, they're waiving fees.
They're waiving fees. I'm just telling you, for a limited time, Exodus has a zero fee promotion
where you can buy crypto in the mobile app with zero fees. You can purchase Bitcoin, Litecoin,
Solana, many other crypto assets at their true cost with no fees added at all. Get on it right
now. You'll be glad you did.
Let's get back to the show. All right, guys, we're going to take a break for a second because
I have to tell you about the number one student loan refinance company in 2021, according to
financial and competitor data. Refinancing your student loans can help you pay off your loan
faster, save money, or combine multiple loans into one monthly payment.
With Earnest, you never get robocalls, okay?
Don't ever have to worry about that again.
You can talk to real people who are happy to answer questions about refinancing over email, phone, or chat.
And all this is probably why Earnest was voted the best student loan refinancing overall
by NerdWallet.
Oh, and you never pay fees,
not even late fees. Think about that. Think about that right there, okay? You could take two minutes
to see what your new rate could be and lock in a low rate before the next rate hike if you refinance
right now. Earnest is offering our listeners a $100 cash bonus. Refinance your student debt at earnest.com
slash flagrant. Now remember, this is not available in all states, but remember, if you refinance
your student loans at earnest.com slash flagrant, you get a $100 cash bonus when you visit earnest.com
slash flagrant to refinance your student loan. Earnest student loan refin I really need to understand, you understand people, why the fuck do you think
the pizza review is as popular as it? My friend who, buddy of mine in Toronto, he said these words and he does it.
He's not a very hyperbolic guy.
He goes, why the fuck is the pizza review?
Why do people love this thing?
He goes, he shut down the city in Toronto over the pizza review.
Are you familiar with this?
Yeah, yeah.
Something happened.
Yeah.
What is it about?
That's everywhere.
That's like.
What is, why, why? Something happened. Yeah. What is it about? That's everywhere. That's, it's like. But what is, why, why?
I don't know.
It's, I think food is something everyone can relate to, pizza specifically.
The way it started, they're just so organic.
Like sometimes when I've guessed it, like that's it.
It's like three minutes.
But I was giving honest reviews.
That helped.
So I would say if a place was bad and and
the characters in the streets that made the things work like it it starred in boston but it really
took off in new york because and i still love boston but new york is a fucking weird city
and the people in it are weird and it almost almost was more an ode to New York than anything else.
It was, you were getting real feel of New Yorkers just jumping in.
Like, you know how that, like the sidewalk Knicks video went crazy?
Yeah, side talk, side talk.
With everyone jumping in.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's sort of not to that extent, but the characters that were just walking in it just you
get to showcase authentic new york characters in an organic way you're not like putting them on
display there's no lights we don't know they're coming until they walk in and they come in and
boom yeah oh so it's not about the fucking pizza i mean it was a combo it was the pizza that became
and then you do it so much people viewing me as a credible pizza so i walk
around the city like literally yesterday and it probably happens once a week i'll see someone
out of town or from new york being like we're doing your pizza tour we're going all the places
i've done i follow i have your app and i think i got excited i've probably seen 500 of them
i love seeing this mom and pop like are they gonna blow up after this because i know if he gives them
something in the eights they get a mad get mad and it was this like american success story it's the same
like how many of that time how many has that happened to like if i give something above an
eight it changes what's the biggest blow up yeah like they'll run out of dough by noon really it's
amazing it's great i think lines around the corner you can't get in it it we do you feel inclined
when you see like a mom and pop small shop or you're like how do i be honest here how do i the
only thing that's changed is i won't trash like i used to oh this is terrible give like a two four
i won't do that have you have you crushed any places early and like they went out no no they
don't go up because for the most part you going to, if someone likes the pizza, they're still going to go there.
We can help, but I won't.
And it's much harder.
It's much harder because all the pizza places know me now.
So they see me.
I talk to them for 20 minutes before I eat it.
They come out.
They watch it outside.
So I'm not going to be like horrible.
But yeah, it literally, the next day, like we start warning them, like heads up, if I know it's good.
Not warning that we're coming.
Warning, we're about to post it.
We're about to post it.
You're going to be, you won't be able to get in tomorrow.
How do you not let this go to your head, right?
You have the ability to change people's lives.
Right?
Like you did it obviously with the Barstool Fund,
but also just going into a restaurant and saying they have good pizza.
People look at you in a different way when they're livelihood.
Yeah.
How do you not get, there's like a fucking God complex that comes with that.
And how do you check that?
Now I know you can lean into it for jokes and stuff like that,
but how in your real life do you maintain being like a normal human being?
For me, and I think it's probably similar and maybe not always, like that but how in your real life so you maintain being like a normal human for me and
i think it's probably similar and maybe not always but i always an athlete great athlete
or like an actor is great but let's go with the athlete they're the best generally from middle
school high school and everyone's like you're the best you're a god you're unbelievable we were fucking nine guys so so you're baked as who you are yeah we're pretty grounded i would
say and i don't know that's how i've always viewed it it's like i still feel uncomfortable
like cutting a line at a bar because i was the guy at the back of the bar fucking 20 degree
weather in boston waiting for an hour and seeing someone go to the front. Like who the fuck's that guy been here for an hour.
I will cut.
I recognize it's like,
damn.
And like,
I mean,
I remember I was a Patriot playoff game.
I waited literally one night.
It was the first game under Parcells that they made the playoffs.
I was in line from midnight to noon.
The next day people were passing out getting
carried out in stretchers it was so cold now I you know Kraft literally called me as I want to
sit next to me for when Brady comes back so it's like I I I've been I'm grounded in it and it's
still surreal like when I was there or I'm sitting courtside every time, I'm like, I can't believe I'm here.
I still appreciate that.
But I was pretty grounded.
I mean, I started Barstool at 24.
It didn't make a penny until I was probably like 30.
So to change who you are.
It's hard.
Yeah, at that level.
Yeah.
Is there anything you switched up on a little level once you got money?
You're like, when you were a kid you were like oh fuck that
people always say that
like fall barstool
that has kind of changed but yeah I have fucking money
what are the things that changed?
you're like oh restaurants are cool
watches are cool
he's making fun of me
I'm like a watch guy
I like a watch you know what I mean
he just came up with like living on the streets of New York the only thing he gets money is like yeah I got a watch guy? I like a watch, you know what I mean?
He just came up with, like, fucking living on the streets of New York.
The only thing he gets money is, like, yeah, I got a watch.
I'm going to a five-star restaurant.
What a good life growing up.
I would have been doing the things I'd been doing with my money, like, if I had. Like, for Nantucket, my favorite place on earth, I started, I'd go one day on vacation, like, one night because I couldn't afford more.
Barstool started doing better.
Two nights, three nights, I bought a house.
So I've always, I think, actually kind of had, like, bougie taste.
Like, it's now I can afford the bougie things.
I feel like that's a Boston thing.
What's that?
Boston is, no, no, no.
There's, like, even, like, the working class Boston guy is aristocratic.
Yeah, maybe.
Like, there was a guy who was, like, a mason that I was just, like, talking to randomly.
And he goes, he's fucking missing teeth and he's drinking a fucking beer outside on the side of the bar.
And he goes, I was like, yeah, what do you think it is about, like, Boston?
And he goes, we're the aristocrats of America.
And this is a guy with missing teeth.
Maybe.
He just came off the job.
But, like, I think in his mind, he's like, yeah, but fucking Ben Franklin was here.
Maybe.
I do the same shit.
I always gambled.
I bet $10 a game, $100 in college.
And if I lose, I'm like, holy fuck.
I can bet $500,000 a game now.
But if I lose, I'm like, what am I fucking doing?
But I need the rush.
So it's like.
What's the biggest bet you ever played?
$500,000.
$500,000.
What was the game?
What was the bet?
I did a bunch it was
uh jeez i went through a stretch i don't know college football i was up i was probably i mean
i was betting it every game i know which one i lost which stopped it was virginia tech uh north
carolina this dude brandon walker jinxed it but yeah wait what do you mean he jinxed it? He changed the vibe.
I took the lead.
I love gambling.
Bro, that's every gambler.
That's every gambler, bro.
Like I screamed out.
Do you have like a ritual?
You like double tap?
No, it's just you need good vibes when someone bets that much.
Yeah.
And like it was Virginia Tech had come back, taken the lead,
and then two people got in a fight.
They stopped watching the game.
Oh, no.
Concentrate, concentrate.
And as I said it, the big play happened.
Changed the vibes.
No.
Yeah.
I'm trying to think if I bet that.
I've done that a bunch.
That's the biggest.
I bet prior to that, I had bet 250 grand on the Pats to win the Super Bowl against the Rams.
And I was in jail for it i they
that's the game i got dragged out so i had no idea what was going on i could i could hear the
crowd but i couldn't i didn't know what was happening because you're in the stadium i was
in the stadium jail yeah yeah wow how is that by the way it it was horrible they and then they
walked me out in handcuffs and walked me like probably i I don't know, half a mile away from the stadium.
And I turned on the phone with no idea what happened in the game.
Like I knew it was over, but I didn't know anything about it.
That's a rush.
Why'd they like you?
So I was banned.
Like I'm a Patriot fan.
And I have a thing with Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner.
A thing.
A long running thing.
We protest. Brady got suspended for four games. I went the NFL commissioner. A thing. A long-running thing.
We protest. Brady got suspended for four games.
I went to NFL headquarters.
Keep going.
We handcuffed ourselves
to each other, four of us, in NFL headquarters
demanding to talk to Goodell
and we got put in jail
for a night. So that happened
and that launched
to this day an ongoing rivalry with
him so i'm banned from the from the super bowl because the nfl event so i went in bought a
ticket i had a ticket and they dragged me out in halftime they put me in handcuffs they literally
dragged me out like i went dead fish like i mean yeah like five security guards like pick me up and
drag me who were you with at the game?
One of my guys.
He videoed it.
It was all Patriot fans too.
And then they tried to kick me out of the postgame.
I've won a raffle during COVID.
This is...
Paid $250,000 to watch Monday Night Football with Goodell.
Oh, wow.
Then they contact me like, we've done research on your file and you're not eligible.
It's like my file is basically just me being arrested at NFL headquarters.
I don't know how much research you had to do for that.
So, yeah, that's why.
But I watched that game.
Without knowing, I could hear crowd noise, and no one would tell me what the fuck was going on.
I'm like, what's going on?
What's going on?
Oh, so the cops weren't even.
Nobody told you.
There was no one around.
No phone, no nothing.
Was there anyone else in the cell with you?
Like, anyone else that got arrested at the game?
No.
No, it was just me.
It was just me.
It was actually weird because not weird.
The NFL was who put me there.
And this was also must have been like very high security for terrorism.
And the face recognition, the Atlanta cops.
Like when they found out what was going on, they were livid at the NFL.
They were like, you're wasting our time with this guy because they're on full alert for, like, major shit.
Not a guy who is protesting Tom Brady being suspended.
They're like, why?
They had, like, because the NFL had security dragging out.
Then they called over like 10 cops.
And the cops were like, wait, what's going on?
What's the problem?
He's a Patriot fan?
That was what I was being basically dragged out.
It was interesting.
Yeah.
Because honestly, why waste cops' time?
Especially if you're that worried about terrorism.
For a high-profile event where security—
Again, all my times are screwed up up but I know it was a very
serious time where people were worried about security.
Oh, shit. I've heard
this about you. I've heard that you
value
loyalty.
Above all, yeah. Above all. Correct.
Like, really take care of
the guys that have gone above and beyond
to be loyal to you. Correct.
My biggest criticism that I get as a boss that I don't be like,
attaboy, I don't do those.
What do you mean by that?
I'm not like, great job.
You're doing great.
Very rarely say that.
Probably should say more.
I just don't.
It's like, if you don't hear from me, that generally means you're doing good.
But the loyalty I would say is what the people who work for me like the most.
Like I will be very strongly, fiercely
loyal to people I perceive to be loyal to me. And what if their talent isn't matching up to
your loyalty? Is that difficult for you ever? Or is it like...
No. I mean, I wish it did, but the world needs ditch diggers too. You know, it's like,
not everybody can be an A-list guy, but I'll protect you regardless of that.
I never used to fire people.
That's one thing that's changed now that we're a little more corporate, but I'm up front.
If I hired you when it was me early, you had a job for life.
If you were loyal and worked hard, I would never get rid of you no matter what.
Now, if we hire you, if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out, but I'm up front with that.
You have to produce now.
But the early guys.
Is there anybody that you let go that you're like, damn, I wish I didn't do that?
No.
Like, I know there was that situation with Francis that was tricky.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
No, I didn't regret that.
That's a good example. So, Francis, yeah. No, I didn't regret that. That's a good example. So Francis, who's talented, super talented.
Yeah.
But Francis was in it for Francis.
And Francis would say that.
Like Francis was using Barstool as a stepping stone for his career.
And if you thought that he was a locked-in component of college.
I would have gone to, I would have just taken the beating
and gone.
Because it's worth taking the beating if you were one of the pillars.
Correct.
If I thought...
And not everyone...
By the way, I don't begrudge him for it. It was a different time.
But if, in my mind, you're like...
You live, breathe, die like Barstool
and you're really like, it's in there.
I'll go to war with you.
Francis, I think if he was sitting here, and I've talked to him plenty of times, would openly be like, yeah, no, I'm working on my career here.
You guys are stepping up, which is we need people like that.
Yeah.
But I also think that's probably kind of how that stuff gets out.
It's like he's thinking he wants to be more on the edge because that's how it helps.
And then he goes for it.
And then,
yeah.
Yeah.
And I mean,
that was just,
that was the worst circumstance,
the worst circumstances ever.
I mean,
just to fill in everybody who doesn't know,
what was it?
There was like a girl who was missing.
It was a girl,
Francis,
very talented,
unique,
hilarious,
weird,
interesting.
He,
he actually,
when I think of a comedian,
it's like,
that's kind of what I think of,
like an eccentric, super talented, like, dude.
But he wrote a blog about a girl
who had been missing for weeks at the time.
And then popped up on, like, Sugar Daddy website, right?
Something, yeah.
And I'm talking within,
or something, like, came up, like, an email.
It was an hour after. She was found, like, brutally murdered. Yeah with an hour after she was found like brutally murdered yeah
and how after it went out and his article was like she also like followed call her daddy
and he brought that in he's like of course she follows call her daddy and like sugar daddy and
the girl had been missing for weeks and then was found brutally murdered, like kidnapped, murdered, and everyone descended.
Of course, Barstool.
So we fired him.
Honestly, it wasn't that hard of a decision.
If I'm being totally honest.
It was like, and again, it was one of those things, it's like, I'm not going to take the bullet for Francis,
who I know is in it for Francis.
Also, he was already kind of on my shit list.
Like, we did an event two weeks or something before this happened called the Barstool Awards.
And I sent, like, an email.
This is sponsored.
So we're taking this seriously.
Dress up.
Award show. take it seriously showed up
like how i'm dressed right now high as a fucking kite and i was like you mother was like did you
not read the email this is a big fucking thing how do you think we pay the bills so he was already
on my shit list but um yeah if it was somebody else i would i would care it's not the first time that's happened yeah it
we had an instance where uh and he didn't get fired but we changed roles somebody called like
rihanna fat and um people there goes sexist barstool again we've said far worse things than
that yeah but guy time place how i It's like, if you're not,
I have to perceive the loyalty thing.
And again, I think of Francis right here,
yeah, no, you're 100% right.
Like, I don't think he,
there was any dispute about what he was in it for.
And that's the tricky thing about having a platform
is that some people are going to go to that platform
because they want to build themselves.
And some people are going to go
because they want to be part of it.
Yeah, and you got to remember, Francis came here in New York.
Barstool had started.
We'd been in business, I don't know, 10, 15 years.
People I had been with who had quit jobs, risked stuff, yeah, to come.
Those people I'll die for, even if I like them, don't like them.
Like KFC, who you know.
A lot of people do.
Love KFC.
Dave and KFC, like I'd do anything for them.
He's been with us forever.
He's done everything.
So,
um,
yeah,
it,
each person is,
what's the hardest decision you've had to make?
It's the hardest decision I've had to make.
Like,
is there anything ever like torn you up emotionally?
No,
I don't think so.
Have you cried?
I cry over animal movies. I was cried? That's what happened in my life.
I cry over animal movies.
I was about to ask you, movies.
Only if airplanes are everywhere. Like Pixar and...
Marley and Me.
Like, I mean, I was crying, cried a little bit in Top Gun.
Of course.
Oh, my gosh.
The recent one.
Don't get him started on Top Gun.
Of course, of course.
We did this for a week.
He was like, oh, yeah.
Perfect movie.
And for somebody probably like you, it almost made me feel old.
It's like weirdly because I've seen the original a hundred times.
Nah, fam.
Yeah.
Nah, fam.
So, yeah, movies.
No, yeah.
Wait, what animal movie?
Now I'm curious.
Far Lap.
You guys won't know that.
It's a race horse.
It's a true story.
They fucking put too much weight on him.
A guy lost on the gambling bet with the horse.
That's what the movie's about.
Far lap.
Yeah, right.
Marley and me?
I won't.
You're going to be a lunatic to watch Marley and me.
You will cry.
You'll have to catch me off guard.
You almost have to trick me to get into one of those.
Marley and me is brutal.
We were talking about the animals are real.
These aren't cartoon movies you're watching. Like they're using real animals. No Lion King will make me cry. Okay is brutal. Oh, we were talking about like the animals are real. These aren't cartoon movies
you're watching.
Like they're using real animals.
No Lion King made me cry.
Okay, good.
When like, you know,
Mustafa.
Wake up, dad.
Like League of Their Own
made me cry.
Really?
Yeah, when they're old
and they come back to the field.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, movies can get me
for sure.
And then you just
bottle it back up
when you leave.
I don't know.
Movies get, I don't, I don't know movies get out I don't
Coco you watch Coco yet
great
he cried when he was
crossing the bridge
come on
come on
of course
you know what's crazy
we called
we announced
the Canelo fight
that he lost
we had an alternative
broadcast for Dazon
and Julio Cesar Chavez
was sitting in front of us
also announcing
for a Mexican
he was watching Coco
during the fight it was nuts no way yeah Jose Zarschavez was sitting in front of us, also announcing for a Mexican. He was watching Coco.
What?
It was nuts.
No way. Yeah.
He had Coco on the screen the entire time.
That's unbelievable, bro.
Yeah.
That was crazy.
Yeah, I respect that, though.
I respect that.
Yeah.
I can't even.
How do you?
And the whole arena is just watching him watch Coco?
we were in press row
where all the announcers are
he's the announcer for some Mexican broadcast
Canelo
so he just on his little screen in front of him
had Coco on
if you listen to the broadcast you can hear him crying while he's announcing
we mention it on ours
he's like first of all
that sounds racist as fuck holy shit second of all he's announcing. We mentioned on ours, he's like, first of all, holy shit. That sounds racist as fuck.
We all say,
Zarshab has in front of us,
holy shit, second of all,
he's watching Coco.
Listen, Dave,
I know you've got a busy day.
We don't want to take all your time,
but first of all,
I want to say thank you so much for coming.
It's incredibly impressive what you built.
And I admittedly didn't understand
what you built early on.
Like even when I first went to Barstool,
I was like seeing all these things that were happening and I didn't understand what you build early on like even when i first went up to to barstool i was
like seeing all these things that were happening and i didn't understand like the machine you know
i saw like the specific piece like i saw like you know kfc's thing or part of my take would pop do
you remember the first thing you saw on the first time it was from barstool yeah for me it was
instagram page yeah it's crazy people know us very different ways yeah it was instagram for sure it
was instagram i think it was like you were trying to transition to just Barstool, right?
It was Barstool Sports.
We were trying to – we could never buy that domain name.
Yeah.
Like I tried that early, early because we are more than just sports.
Exactly.
It's culture.
It's sports.
That makes you think it, but we were never able to get the domain.
But I guess what I was going to say that was going to bestow this compliment on you is
that once I, it was really when I saw you handling the adversity that you were experiencing,
that's kind of when I started to understand you.
And I had a very different look at not only Barstool, but what you built.
So I hope there are people who are not familiar with you that watch the podcast and they
get this more well yeah i appreciate that i do feel like that's one of the things that
overall when you hear the controversy or people they're successful this that is like
and i've said it's like we're successful not obviously in your luck but the all these writers
and jealous like i just outworked your ass like i didn't take a vacation day for 10 days i did a
paper route for 48 hours literally in an astro van that I bought on Craigslist,
1,800 bucks, and went to every fucking subway station, put my newspaper in the box.
Well, you were fucking probably, I don't know, you were seven years old.
So I don't need your social fucking classes in college to be like, these guys, this, that.
I was just fucking working.
So yeah, that, I do think, is why I'm never too worried about the controversies.
Because our house, brick by brick, that's, like, one of our slogans.
Our foundation, that's what it is.
It's like, so the winds don't block it over.
And people know you in the way that I think now I'm getting to know you a little bit more, at least through content, right?
Whereas, initially, I wasn't familiar.
Literally, I'm saying like pizza reviews, these types of things.
So, yeah, I think it's, I don't know.
I think it's cool that you go on other platforms and have these conversations
because there's no way that you're going to penetrate the people that don't fuck with you through your own platform.
Yeah, I got a feeling your crowd probably fucks with us.
Yeah, I think there might be some crossover.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The people don't like me.
If I gave them a hundred bucks, they'd be like, you fucking asshole, give me $1,000.
It's like, dude, they're never going to like me.
I've come to grips with that.
They just fucking hate me.
Yeah.
Whatever.
There's haters.
I guess that's what it is.
You know, they're just never.
It's been a long time, I feel like, since I've converted somebody who didn't like me to like, oh, I like them.
They just fucking hate me. I never didn't like me to like, oh, I like them. They just fucking hate me.
I never didn't like you, but
I didn't. No, I know. No, no. What I'm saying is
you converted me into
someone who goes, oh, this guy is like
a kind of a business genius.
That was the conversion.
But I didn't get it initially at first.
And I would even go on like KFC shows. I was like, what's
going on here? Like, what is happening? I'm like walking around
the office and I'm like, I thought everybody would be playing beer pong.
Why is everybody writing?
Why is there computers everywhere?
What the fuck is going on here?
Because from the outside, Barstool is like, oh, this is just the frat house.
Everybody's having fun.
And then I'm in there, and I'm seeing, oh, people are really grinding.
And people are trying to make pieces of content that are going to win. And it almost has like, it almost has like a athletics vibe a little bit where it's just like,
oh,
that guy's,
that guy's bad in three 50.
It's very competitive.
Yes.
Very,
very competitive.
Yeah.
I didn't understand that that is,
that is trickle down.
Yeah.
And that,
to be honest,
we,
we,
we got an advantage.
We got that where I would say we're the first like new age company,
digital.
Like we get people from networks.
They don't have that drive.
The internet, the beauty of the internet is you can win by yourself.
If you're good enough, you rise.
So it's like what you – I'll leave with this.
But I have a painting in my office, and it's this guy just pouring glitter into a big star.
And what that is for me, and I tell our people at every company meeting,
it's like you just get in what you put in.
I'm never going to be like, oh, this guy wasn't here for lunch or this that
work whatever fucking hours you want on the content just like it's time to get like this is
you this is your career if you're if you do it guess what you're gonna have a mcafee contract
a million dollars worth of game alice cooper it's like it's up to you it's how much you how hard
you want to work but it is likeL. Everyone's fighting for airtime.
Facts.
Facts.
Do you think they're going to cry when the Celtics lose?
I still think they're going to win.
I wouldn't cry.
That was tough.
That last game was tough.
Steph is special, bro.
No, Steph's special.
But if you score like two points in the last six minutes you're
gonna lose to most teams in the NBA finals he's great yeah and fun to watch and you realize even
I don't hate him I hate Draymond I hate Clay I don't hate Steph he didn't say a fucking word
the entire I actually said one thing to him he turned because I had seats right there I'm like
you're gonna have to do it yourself he look he goes he goes, I know I am. Whoa, really?
And he did.
Yo, Steph is a real alpha, bro.
He don't look like it.
I fucking hate LeBron. I don't hate Steph. But again,
the Celtics did what? We scored 18 points in the fourth quarter? You're not going to
win many NBA Finals games scoring
18. All right, quick, before you leave, what did you think
about the fuck you Draymond chant?
What's the furthest the audience can go?
That is PG.
That may be G.
I mean, and then his wife was like, the language, dude, you swore in front of your kid at the podium after the game.
And he's got the clip on his podcast being like, fuck Draymond?
No, fuck you.
He plays along with it. That's his vibe. That's fine. Fuck you. like, fuck Draymond? No, fuck you. He plays along with it.
That's his vibe.
That's fine.
Fuck you.
Fuck you, Draymond is nothing.
Yeah, yeah. Like, nothing.
I'm going to fuck your wife over the line.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Like, fuck you, Draymond, shit like that in the seats.
There was one actually weird.
And I also think if players talk back, you can talk to them.
Like, a guy behind with a couple scrubs complaining
to the refs he's like sit down and the golden state security guy he's like you can't engage
with the fans meanwhile iguodala came out and iguodala said to the guys like it's okay he's
yelling at the dude he's like they've never seen a black person before well now you can engage with the fans. But again, I think the main thing is, I get it because you're so close to the players and you don't want it to go over that line where it's like, you know, get a mayhem at the palace where people get punched.
Right.
Fuck you, Draymond.
It's nothing.
It's nothing.
Nothing.
I don't think there's anything in the world.
So there's a line, but that's not the line an f-word yeah come on and that and by the way he brought it on himself I mean he's a
fucking maniac he goes on his podcast talk a ton of shit yeah so come on you you don't that that's
that that's easy that's g that's not pg that's g as long as you keep it towards the player you
don't go family it's not threat you're not touching but As long as you keep it towards the player, you don't go family. It's not threat. You're not touching.
But fuck you, Draymond.
There's no one here who thinks that's a problem.
When you were playing baseball, were you a good shit talker?
You can't really talk shit in baseball.
Because they can throw a baseball.
Yeah, yeah.
I was in the outfield.
I was in a field by myself.
There's not, you know, basketball, football.
But basketball is, that's obviously shit talk.
I mean, there's no, everyone agrees, right?
Fuck you, James.
It's not that bad.
He's heard way worse things and he's probably said way worse things.
But I do think people cross the line.
Like sometimes I'll be there and they are talking about wives.
They're talking about like Bron's kid and shit.
And it's like, yeah, leave the kid out of it.
The kid's 14 years old.
Yeah, let's just be honest. I mean, LeBron did say, like, a big regret.
He didn't want his kid to have too much pressure, but he named him LeBron, like, Junior.
So, I mean, he's running onto the court during his games.
Right, right.
Posting clips of him.
So you think you could talk shit?
LeBron likes it both ways.
Wait, are you saying LeBron's a hypocrite, bro?
Yeah.
Are you actually saying right now?
Maybe the all-time hypocrite.
What?
Yeah, so.
This is a hot take right here.
LeBron James?
Yeah, right.
Exactly.
So, I mean, he's, again, most of the people I really fucking hate are born out of rivalries.
Like, that KG, Rondo, Pierce, we went to war with him, and I hated him so much.
Like, that Celtics team is, like, my favorite, basically, Boston sports team ever.
Of course.
I loved how much they felt like me.
Like, they were out there, like Ray Allen, the way they fucking hated him. I loved how much... They felt like me. They were out there
like Ray Allen, the way they fucking hated
him. I'm like, yes.
They were like fans.
That starred my hatred
of him. And then he's the way he handled
himself, the decision and all that shit.
I've been a LeBron hater. For a long time.
I have an article, I think
27 reasons LeBron James is the
Antichrist.
And you're a Jew?
Yeah, literally.
Okay, one question before you go.
All the beefs that you've been in, have you ever wanted to throw down?
No, I'm a pussy.
But is there any one specific person that if if i like was confident
in my fighting ability if you're confident in your fighting abilities
and you got to be careful here obviously because they might be confident like
well i i've said very clearly i'm not confident right so in this hypothetical in my well i
challenge rapaport.
And he said no?
He had a contract.
He had a $200,000 contract.
No!
Yeah.
Yeah, he had it.
He got, I literally sent it to him. Fuck, fight, run around it.
There's no way.
Yeah, he had it.
And what was the issue?
Breakout or?
Yeah, something like that.
Like, you mean, oh, no.
I thought you meant, I fucking thought you meant like the breakout
gang paid not the other no no yeah he uh he he's not one of my favorite cats at all uh i i i was a
fan of his not anymore clearly were you gonna like televise it the whole deal yeah it'd be rough and
rowdy but i i my shoulders are like i literally like i i went to the doctor that i need shoulder
replacement surgery.
Like, if I did this, my shoulder would dislocate.
So, he was a pro.
Bro, you and him both.
You have the same thing?
My shoulders are fucked.
I literally.
You might be an age.
Are we just old?
Literally, my shoulders, I have no car.
It's a disaster.
So, but, I mean, Blodgett.
I mean.
Yeah, he. You kind of gott. I mean. Yeah, he.
You kind of got it.
And he's such a pussy, I may be able to take him in a fight.
Yeah.
Somebody being like, watch out.
He's a little country club fucking snot fucking thief.
He was on some, you know, they have the Twitter spaces.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, the Bruins are playing, so I was watching them.
But somebody. No, with Kara Swisher, where you popped in yeah something like that somebody's like hey
yo like he's on a twitter space i'm like he is because they will never respond to me yeah so i
jumped in it and i can't believe they took me they put me on i don't know what they thought i'm like
yeah i got something to say that fucking henry bludgett you fucking cock you why won't you talk to me you fucking liar they cut me off but he heard it yeah i went off on him
oh he knows this over here right yeah yeah this was phenomenal yeah but it's funny because of the
way that kara prefaces it she's like okay we're gonna take a chance yeah yeah i was on mute for
a second i'm saying that to dave courtnoy but okay dave unmute yourself come on dave yeah hi sorry about that so yeah i saw that piece of shit henry
bloggers on there my first question is why would a piece of shit who's been banned by the sec from
talking about stocks be on there my second question is hey hen, Henry, you fucking coward. You know everything you wrote about me was bullshit.
Why don't you ever sit down with me, you fucking piece of shit coward?
That's my question for Henry.
All right.
Then Dave is gone.
I've offered them multiple times, like, let's sit down.
You can ask me any question you want.
I just want it videoed.
That's it. I can use it after. You can ask me any question you want. I just want it videoed. That's it.
I can use it after.
You can ask me anything you want.
Yeah.
To think that you'd write what they've written without the prime suspect being like, hey, I'm giving you a tell-all.
Yeah.
Who says no to that?
Yeah.
They do.
Of course.
Because they know I have the truth.
And the fact, there's no answers for the evidence I have, except, yeah, we were fucking lying.
We're scumbags.
People who don't listen are afraid of the truth.
Yeah, it's crazy.
Bill Clinton said that.
But in what other world, it's like, if you're doing a huge expose on somebody, and that person's like, camera's on, let's go.
Anything you want.
It's not an expose.
You know what it is.
It's fucking clicks.
I think you fuck up Henry Blodgett.
I do think you got to be careful. I think Scooter Braun fuck you up, bro. I think he fucking clicks. I think you fuck up Henry Blodgett. I do think you got to be careful.
I think Scooter Braun fuck you up, bro.
I think he likes me.
I think he likes you?
Actually, I got to ask.
But I think he might be able to throw down, bro.
I've never met him.
Yeah.
But I know enough of people in his circle where they're like, have you heard the preface?
Do you know Dave Grumman?
This is Miami Dave Grumman. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's like the king of Miami. Yeah, yeah, yeah. heard the preface? Do you know Dave Grotman? This is Miami Dave Grotman.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
He's like the king of Miami.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Absolutely the king of Miami.
So the Grotman, that's Caller Daddy, he called me.
And he's like, hey, Scooter Braun wants to talk to you.
He's on the other line.
Will you talk to him?
It's about the Caller Daddy.
I'm like, yeah, but he knows who I am, right?
And I meant that in a sense like I'm not kissing scrooge brown's
ass scrooge brown that's one thing about barstool i think not everyone we operate in a different
world like i the people that other people may have to kiss their ass we don't like we're
self-sufficient we don't need fucking dick from anybody so um yeah grump is like yeah i told him
you're a terrorist he's like he's like i told him like just know he's, I'm like, Dave, it's on the record.
Like, I'll talk to him.
Everything we say, I may talk about, repeat.
He's like, I told him he wants to talk to you.
But I think he likes me.
I think he likes me.
I think.
I'm going to ask him.
I'm going to let him.
That's another one, people.
