When it comes to fashion, I change my mind all the time.
Okay?
One day I might love something,
might be a staple in my wardrobe.
A year later, I might absolutely despise it.
And on the other hand, I might hate something,
absolutely hate it, say,
I will never, ever, ever wear that.
And then two years later, okay, you know what?
I might give it a try.
I will say the older I get, the more consistent
I am with my fashion preferences, the more secure I feel in my fashion identity. You
know, these things become more solid the older you get. However, I am still evolving. I have
not arrived at any sort of fashion conclusion in my life. I still have more
experimenting to do. So today I thought it'd be fun to share with you how my fashion preferences
have changed over the years, specifically the last few years. I'm going to share with you stuff that
I used to like and now I dislike, and I'm going to share with you stuff that I used to dislike
and now I like. And we're going to discuss why.

Okay, let's start with stuff that I used to like
and now I dislike.
Number one, high water pants.
If you don't know what a high water is,
I don't know, is it sort of like a slang term?
I don't even know.
It's the nickname for pants that are a little bit too short.
Okay, I would say the most popular average length for pants is pants that either
go all the way to the floor or a little bit above that. That's sort of the average pant
length, right? High waters are a little bit shorter than that. They come up to right above
the ankle bone. Okay? And I used to love high waters. I thought they were so flattering
on me. I thought they were the only way to wear pants. Every time I'd buy a pair of jeans,
I would cut the bottoms off so that they were high waters.
I was obsessed with this length.
I don't know why,
but I just thought it was the cutest,
bestest way to wear pants, okay?
And, you know, the way I'd style it is I'd usually wear
either a little boot or like a high top converse
so that you'd be able to see more
of the shoe with the high water pant or you could see the sock.
Like if I was wearing like a loafer, you could see more of the sock.
And then one day I was getting dressed, like I feel like I can remember the day it was.
One day I was getting dressed and I was like, wait, this doesn't really look that good.
It kind of makes my legs look short and it doesn't work with every pair of
shoes, which I mean, in the defense of high water pants, like no pair of pants
looks good with every shoe.
But I just, I don't know.
I got sick of the high water pant.
I was like, this actually doesn't work for me anymore.
And then I had to donate all of my high water pants and start building a collection of
pants that are normal length cut off at the ankle or at the floor. And I don't know, I just,
I think the high water is very specific. It's very stylized. Like it's, it's a bit more trendy, maybe.
And I still think it's cute.
Like I still think it can be cute,
but I don't really love it anymore.
You know, to me it's less timeless.
It's more trendy, like pants that cut off at the ankle
or at the floor are just, it's a timeless tailoring.
You know what I mean?
And to me, it's more flattering as well.
Like I think high water pants
actually shorten your legs in a way.
And that's the realization I had.
Like for some reason,
I thought they were making my legs look longer
and they were actually making my legs look shorter.
I don't know how that happened.
I don't know.
Anyway, but I'm not into high water pants anymore.
I probably still own, you know, it's funny.
I don't like high water pants anymore if they probably still own, you know, it's funny. I don't like high water pants anymore
if they're right above the ankle bone,
but I actually do like them
if they're more of a capri length.
But at that point, that's just a capri.
So it doesn't really count.
High water is like longer than a capri.
Anyway, I don't like high waters anymore.
Okay, next we have crop tops.
I'm really, really over a crop top. Like, I don't know if I'll ever wear a crop top again. And it's wild because I
was really dedicated to crop tops for a really long time. I don't think I owned a
regular length shirt. And this could also be sort of the journey from being a teenager to now being a young
adult.
This could just be maturing.
There's something about being a tween where you're like, I need to show my belly button
off.
I have to.
I don't know.
You just, you have this desire to feel mature and showing a bit more skin can sometimes
do that even if it's just like a tiny bit of your midriff.
But it's like, I don't know, psychologically it can feel exciting and riveting.
And then the older you get, you're like, I want to be able to go to dinner and be a little
bloated and not, I just don't need everyone to, I want to feel covered up.
If feeling covered up is appealing again.
Crop tops are incredibly uncomfortable, but also I just don't
like the look of midriff as much anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still think showing skin is fun,
but there's something not appealing or... You know when you look at an outfit and you're like,
oh, that just feels satisfying? There's something about showing midriff to me that's just not satisfying anymore.
And if I'm going to show skin, I'm going to show something else these days.
I don't know, like I'm going to show a bunch of leg or show a bunch of arm.
I'm just not excited about midriff anymore.
It's just, is it midriff or is it midriff?
I don't, let's find out.
It's midriff and I've been saying midriffed, midriff. I'm not into it. There's something so
chic, so classic and so flattering about a full length shirt. And I don't know, these days I'm
just finding absolutely zero occasion where a crop top makes sense.
It just never looks as good as a full length top looks.
Okay, next we have something that I used to be obsessed with
and now I absolutely can't stand,
which is so funny because this used to be like a staple
in my wardrobe, platform shoes.
I cannot stand them now, I'm sorry.
And again, if you love platform shoes,
this is not about you,
this is about me wearing platform shoes, okay?
I hate them on me.
I used to like them
because they made my legs look super long,
which is something that I'm noticing as a theme here,
like the high water pants, the crop tops,
the platform shoes,
all of these things are things that I used to like
because of how I felt like they made me look.
Like I liked the high water pants
because I felt like they made my legs look long.
I liked the crop tops because it made me feel more mature
because I was showing my midriff and it like was whatever.
The platform shoes I felt like made my legs look longer.
I think I used to dress in a more vain sort of way.
Like I was using clothes to express myself,
but also to flatter me in a certain way
and create some sort of illusion,
which I'm less interested in now.
So it's interesting that a lot of these things
are no longer intriguing to me.
I think because my priorities in fashion have changed,
I'm less concerned about how my body looks
and more concerned about like the outfit itself
with or without me in it and the vibe that it gives off.
Not really how it makes me look.
I mean, listen, I still wanna look good,
but let's say that used to be 60% of my vision
when getting dressed in the morning.
Now it's like 25.
I think I care a bit less about how my body looks,
which is great, thank God,
because being obsessed with how your body looks
in something can be a fucking nightmare.
Like now I'm less concerned about that
and what a relief that is.
Anyway, platform shoes,
I felt like they made me look taller, legs look longer.
I just felt longer and it just felt like they made me look taller, legs look longer, I just felt longer
and it just felt more flattering to me.
To be honest, like platform shoes to me
are the epitome of trendy.
I mean, listen, do I think that there are some
platform shoes that are timeless?
Probably, I can't think of them.
I genuinely can't think of them.
I don't know, I think they're just so extreme. They're also so challenging
to wear that it makes sense to me that they're trendy because they're not easy to integrate
into your routine, which is to me the greatest sign of something being a trend only is if
it's not efficient. You know what I mean? It's not easy to integrate into your style
as your style evolves, right? Like a classic pair of black flats. I mean, it's not easy to integrate into your style as your style evolves, right?
Like a classic pair of black flats,
I mean, you can style those a trillion,
bazillion different ways.
Like your style can evolve
and those can arguably stay in your rotation.
Whereas like a white go-go platform boot
or like a platform pair of sneakers
makes such a loud statement,
it's harder to take those with you through your style evolution.
They're just too trendy.
And I look at them now and I just think that they look kind of silly.
Like I cringe at platform shoes for the most part.
I just think that they look goofy.
Like anytime I see a platform shoe, I'm like that shoe would look better
if it just wasn't a platform.
You know what I mean?
Like, for example, like a platform sneaker,
a normal flat one inch max sole sneaker looks so much better
and more classic and more timeless than like a platform.
You know what I'm saying?
I don't know.
I don't like the platform anymore.
We'll see if I ever like it again.
It's possible, but I actually doubt it.
Next, we have anything with a logo on it.
I've slowly but surely gotten to a point where I don't want any logo on anything, not even
like a teeny tiny little logo.
Like I want no logo.
And I think it's because of the way that logos
can distract from the outfit. Like where something's from has a narrative of its own. You know,
like a logo has a narrative of its own, which I don't like. I feel like that can take away
from the narrative of the outfit as a whole and what the person who put the outfit together
wants to say with the outfit.
I feel like the logo and where clothing is from
basically takes the narrative that you wanted to speak
with your outfit and it now makes it about the brand
that you're wearing as well and what their narrative is.
And listen, that is also cool in a way.
Like there's something cool about that too.
And I am somebody who respects the art
of the designer brand.
Like I used to shit on it left and right.
I've come to appreciate it and, you know,
see the art in it when there is art to be seen, you know?
Like I, I'm not gonna just shit on designer brand.
Like I, I get it.
I'm not a hater anymore, you know,
as I was when I was like 16, 17, I get it.
However, I don't know, like I'm not in a place in my life
where I want the brand I'm wearing to speak for me, right?
Like there are certain brands that when you wear them,
it says something about you in a way.
Like if you wear Gucci, for example,
I feel like Gucci sort of tells a story about the person who's wearing Gucci.
I feel like I think of somebody who's loud and outgoing and bright and passionate and hardheaded.
If I see somebody wearing Prada,
I think of somebody who's a bit more demure,
a bit more soft, a bit more thoughtful, a bit more poetic.
By the way, this is bullshit.
Like, what is it actually?
But that's what I think of when I see these brands, right?
Because of the identity that these brands have created.
And I think that that's cool,
because if you wanna say that about yourself,
then wear a Prada bag and a Prada shirt,
and you can maybe say something in that way,
or wear a Gucci belt or what, okay. But sometimes you wanna, I don't know, like have the narrative in your own hands.
And some people are going to be like, Emma, you're overthinking this. Okay. You're probably
right. But I don't know, like this is just a personal feeling I'm having. So like, I'm
not attracted to things with logos or brand names on them at all. I avoid that at all
costs and that's just where I'm at in my life.
If I'm gonna buy like a nice item,
if I'm gonna splurge on an item,
I am not splurging on something that has a logo on it.
Absolutely not.
Unless the logo is super tiny and like not seen often.
You know what I mean?
Because beyond me just not really liking what it says
as much anymore, I also never want to buy something because of the brand that it's from,
right? I want to buy something because I like it and because I think I'm going to wear it
a lot. And I don't want to be swayed by a logo. So I've made it sort of common practice
in my life. If I'm going to splurge on an item, I am not going to buy something with a logo on it.
I wanna buy something because of what it is,
not because of where it's from.
So anyway, anything with a logo on it to me is out.
I also think too, this is just something
that happens every few years when, I don't know,
maximalism is no longer in.
And there's a phase of minimalism,
which I've been talking about for the last two years. But I'm like at an extreme with it where I'm like, I don't
even want a tiny logo on anything. Like I want no logo at all. I want it to be a complete
mystery where anything I'm wearing is from. Although I will never gatekeep. If somebody
comes up to me and says, Hey, where's that from? I will absolutely always share because
I do not believe in gatekeeping like that.
Okay, so that's not why I don't wear a logo.
Yeah, okay, moving on.

Next we have colorful geometric patterns. I used to love, love, love like statement patterns, statement like mod patterns, like
60s mod patterns or like bright 70s swirly stuff, which I mean, all of that is arguably
kind of costume-esque.
Like were they actually wearing those patterns and shit?
Yeah, maybe sometimes, but I don't think that that was like, I don't know.
It feels like a costume version of the 60s and 70s, but I used to like those patterns,
right?
The big, bright, colorful, geometric-y sort of patterns in all forms, as prints, as knit
designs, like a sweater that has a bunch of color and pattern and blah blah blah.
The thing that I've noticed about majority of patterns that are super loud and bright
is that inevitably you'll get sick of them because they're fatiguing. It's too loud.
When anything's too loud, you'll get fatigued by it eventually.
It's like how cheetah print comes in and out every few years.
It's always sort of in, right?
There's always some people who just love it all the time, like Snooki from Jersey Shore.
She will probably always love Cheetah Print, okay?
You know what I'm saying?
There's certain people who just love it all the time.
I love Snooki, by the way, and I I love Jersey Shore and I need to watch that show again. Me talking about this right now is reminding me that I just simply
need to watch Jersey Shore again because it's one of the best shows on the planet. But anything
loud will become fatiguing to majority of people eventually. And that's how I feel about
sort of like retro, colorful geometric patterns. It's just, to me, it like reminds me of a certain era now,
like 2018, 2019, when like I was wearing a lot of that,
like it feels stale.
Like I wore those sorts of patterns a lot
and now it just feels stale to me.
I'm sick of it because it was too loud, unfortunately.
Next we have mini bags.
Okay, I used to like love a little mini bag, a little mini shoulder bag.
I'm so over that.
I'm so over that.
Number one, it seems a bit too juvenile for me at this point.
Like I feel like it's a bit immature.
There's something about it that reads to me as like very immature and in that I'm not excited about, but then on top of that, it
just doesn't even fucking hold anything. And it never did. Right? Like I would always be
fighting for space in my little mini bag. It just, and also like when I'm talking about
a mini bag, I'm talking about a mini little shoulder bag that you can pop over your shoulder.
You cannot pop that bag over your shoulder if you're wearing a jacket.
And that is so inconvenient.
How many months out of the year
do we not need to wear a jacket?
Three, four?
I mean, I live in Los Angeles,
one of the warmest places, at least in America.
And I wear a jacket probably 70% of the year,
at least in the evenings.
Like a light jacket, okay?
I'm not like bundled up.
I'm not wearing a fucking Oritzia super puff,
but like, you get what I'm saying?
My point is it's just like, I can't with the mini bag.
I'm done.
I'm wearing a per, like I'm,
and maybe this is just me maturing,
but like I want to wear a purse, you know?
I want to wear a full fucking purse
or like a full cross body bag.
I want to wear a bag.
Like I have shit to bring around nowadays.
I didn't use to when I was younger.
It was like my mom carried her wallet.
I didn't even have a wallet.
My phone was always in my hand.
I didn't, whatever.
Now it's like, well, I have my lipstick
and then I have my lip liner and then I have my phone
and then I have a portable charger
and then I have napkins just in case.
And then I have gum.
And then I have like, I used to have like 16 different
vapes in my bag. Like it was just, I had a lot. I don't carry around a vape anymore because
I'm, I'm evolved now and I don't vape anymore. Beautiful. But you get the idea. So, all right.
And I just don't, I don't know, they just don't even look cool to me. Like there's nothing
like like there's sort of this idea that like in fashion,
we should have like a bunch of different little cute,
little mini bags.
I used to think like that
because that's very Pinterest mindset, right?
Having like one really good black purse is all you need.
It's all you need.
I wear my favorite black purse.
It's just like a simple black purse.
I wear that thing almost every day.
I mean, I don't really need any other bag.
You know, it's perfect.
It's not too big, it's not too small.
It fits over my shoulder.
I don't know.
Like, and it looks chic.
It looks classic.
Okay, next we have topless tops, Okay. You've probably seen these. They were
like very trendy like a year ago. I just, for some reason now I despise them and so
I have to talk about it. And I wore them quite a few times. Like I definitely participated
in this trend, but now I absolutely despise them. Okay. Imagine, how do I explain this? Okay, imagine a long sleeve shirt.
Now imagine you took a pair of scissors
and you cut above the boob, under the arm,
around the back and over the boob again.
So now all you really have is like,
basically just sleeves.
Like if you wore this by itself,
your entire boobies would be out, right?
A lot of times, this piece is paired with a tank top
or with like a cute little bra or something,
and it's basically like a half shirt.
It's just sleeves, it's like removable sleeves.
This was so trendy.
I had like a few sweater versions.
It was like sweater sleeves. I had like a few sweater versions. It was like sweater sleeves. I had quite a few. To me,
now it is the dumbest. Sorry, I don't want to call anything dumb. Because like, there's always a way
to style something that's cool. Like I never want to take that away from people if they want to like,
do you know what I mean? Like who the fuck am I to say? Right? But to me, when I look at it now,
on myself, I'm like, Emma, stop.
What are you doing?
Like just wear a fucking long sleeve shirt.
Like what's happening?
It just seems ridiculous to me and I can't,
I just don't think it's cool anymore.
I don't know, I just don't like it anymore.
And that's coming from someone who like
used to really love it.
And I think what it really comes down to is something that,
like I will always end up cringing at something
that is ultimately pointless. That's something that I've noticed. And I've talked about that a lot.
To those of you who are consistent listeners to anything goes, you know this, okay? Anything that
serves no purpose, I will ultimately hate at some point. And that is how I feel about these sleeve
tops. It's, it's pointless. And because of that, I cannot, like, eventually I will think
it's stupid. And I'm at that point now with the topless just sleeve tops.
Okay, next we have checkerboard print. I adored checkerboard print for so long, like for years.
Like my style evolved over and over and over again, but something that I always
liked was checkerboard. And I think it's safe to say that now I'm fully sick of it. And I really
don't like it anymore. In almost any capacity. The only capacity I actually do enjoy checkerboard
print in is actually tile work in the home. For some reason I find that timeless, like a checkerboard floor in a kitchen,
like black and white checkerboard tiles,
or like blue and white checkerboard tiles in a bathroom.
Oh, I love that.
Like that I don't think I'll ever get sick of.
But on clothes, I'm done for now.
I really don't like it anymore.
And I think it's because it's been so overdone
the last few years. It was already starting to get stale a few years ago, but it held on by a thread
and it kind of stayed in the zeitgeist. And now I just, I mean, personally, I just can't even
fucking stand it. I hope I never fucking see it again, checkerboard print. Okay, I hope I absolutely never see it again. And last but not least, we have the sort of Y2K sparkly design slash baby tee of it all.
Like you know what I'm talking about? Like, like everybody being like, oh my God, I need
to go to the thrift store and find like children's t-shirts because they've such cute designs
because they were like little small little designs with sparkles and stuff. I'm sorry, I can't.
Again, like there was sort of this trend for a while there
that even I participated in of like very juvenile clothing.
Right?
Like tiny little bags, sparkly little shirt.
Like it was almost like we were all sort of healing
our inner child, okay?
All at once.
And we were doing it through fashion,
wearing stuff that we maybe always dreamed of. healing our inner child, okay, all at once. And we're doing it through fashion, wearing
stuff that we maybe always dreamed of. And I like the idea of like, staying youthful
through clothing. However, I personally am over it. Like I like the sentiment. I think
the sentiment is beautiful. Like, hey, you know what? Why succumb to aging in the sense that, oh, well, now I'm,
I'm 50, so I guess I have to start wearing like, Skechers shape ups in like, in ugly, like floral
dress that goes down to my ankles that's like, really baggy. Like, I don't want to do that.
I want to continue to dress in what's trendy or what the...
I love that.
I believe in that.
I think that that's a phenomenal thing.
But however, for my own personal style,
I have no interest in feeling younger.
And I actually have no interest in feeling older either.
When it comes to fashion,
I just want to wear stuff that
I'm gonna think is cool forever.
And that's a steep ask and I'm aware of that. But I want to look back and be I'm gonna think is cool forever. And that's a steep ask, and I'm aware of that.
But I want to look back and be like, that was a cool outfit.
Like I might not wear it now, but like, fuck, that's a cool outfit.
Whereas right now I look back at what I wore like two years ago even, and
I'm like, what the fuck was that?
And I'm trying to slowly get to a point where I don't ever feel like that again.
And again, it's gonna take a long time and it's gonna take a lot of trial and error.
And maybe I'll never get to a point
where I have no fashion regrets,
but that's what my goal is right now.
All right, now let's discuss stuff that I used to dislike
and now I like, okay?
Starting with tabby shoes.
If you don't know what tabby shoes are,
tabby shoes are basically shoes that have like a
slit in the toe. And let's see, let me read the history of the tabby shoes. I'm very curious.
According to StitchFashion.com, here's the history of the tabby. Martin Margiela,
the Belgian founder of Mason Margiela, developed his designs for tabbies
as a reference to the Japanese workers' shoe dating back to the 15th century. Originally
as socks, the tabby was meant to split the toes of workers to promote balance. If one
had a balanced body, they could have a clear mind.
And then obviously Margiela took inspiration from this and created various different styles. Boots. It seems
like his first one was the boot. Okay, so funny story. I used to be really like, I didn't
know the history of the Tabby and how long it had been around. I was made aware of the
Tabby shoe because of the brand Margella and I was seeing everyone wearing Tabby shoes.
They sort of came back into the zeitgeist.
Everybody was loving the brand Margiela,
especially in the fashion world.
Like, it was just like...
And I mean, people have loved the Tabby shoe by Margiela
for a long time, but they were having, like,
a moment a few years ago.
And I was like, you know what?
I don't think I want to buy into this trend.
Like, to me, it seemed like it was only ever gonna be
a trend because you have to wear a certain type of sock
in order to wear the tabby shoe,
because obviously there's a slit in the toe, right?
Like if you were to wear a normal sock in a tabby shoe,
it would like pull, it's like wearing a flip-flop
with a sock, with a normal sock.
It doesn't work, you know, like you can't,
there's not enough fabric there.
So you have to like go out of your way
and buy tabby socks if you wanna wear a tabby shoe.
I mean, or you can go sockless,
but it just seems inconvenient, right?
I was shopping recently and I went into the Margiela store
and I saw these shoes.
They were cream ballet flats,
which is already something that,
like these are two things that I literally used to dislike
and now suddenly them together I like.
It was very bizarre.
Cream tabby ballet flats.
Super simple, super versatile.
I was like, fuck, these are really cool.
And immediately it was like,
oh my God, I can think of a trillion ways to style these.
Like these will easily become a staple if I get them.
And I tried them on,
expecting them to be super uncomfortable.
Like I thought it was gonna feel like
it was a wedgie between my toes.
I was so wrong.
They actually are very comfortable weirdly.
And it's interesting because, you know,
the article we just read talking about
the origin of the shoe in Japan and how,
you know, the Tabby shoe was created
because it was supposed to promote balance,
the space between the big toe
and the rest of the toes promotes balance.
And it might just be placebo or something.
I agree, I think it does promote balance.
There's something very comfortable.
And I don't know, I've worn my my tabby flats, like around town, 20,000 steps
and my feet have definitely been a bit sore. I mean, I'm wearing flat shoes, but like I
can walk around in those tabbies. I don't know. There's something about a tabby. I find
them very comfortable and I think that they are ultimately cool. Like I think they can
look cool. Do I think that they're trendy like me? Yes, probably. Like I think they can look cool. Do I think that they're trendy, like me?
Yes, probably.
Like I think they'll probably go back out of style.
But I also, you know what?
I don't think they're gonna go back out of style,
but I think that they'll be less popular again.
But I actually think that they'll always be cool
because they're subtle enough
that I think that they're actually timeless.
They're having a big moment right now.
They've been having a big moment the last few years,
but I think it'll always be cool.
Like, I don't think a tabby will ever be looked at
as something that like, is like cringe.
I don't know, maybe, but I don't know.
They're just, the more I learn about them,
and now that I have a pair and I wear them all the time,
I'm like, dang, I really like them.
I like everything about them.
I like the way that they look, but I also like the way that they feel. Like I actually, I I really like them. I like everything about them. I like the way that they look,
but I also like the way that they feel like I actually am sold on them. I used to think
that they were trendier than they were, but now that I like them so much and I get the
hype, I'm like, you know what, maybe they are timeless. And learning the history too.
They've been around for so long. That's a telltale sign that something's going to last.
Okay, next we have V-neck shirts. Okay, listen, V-neck shirts for the most part are still hideous, okay?
But I used to think that there was no such thing as a cute V-neck shirt.
And then recently, I've realized, you know what?
I actually don't hate a V-neck.
I have this one cream knit V-neck top, and I've actually been wearing it for the last
few years.
I've had it for probably three years now.
And I was always like, oh, is this even Like, I don't know. It actually is cute.
You know, I have quite a few V neck tops and it is possible for a V neck to be
cute. Okay. Am I rushing to find my next V neck? No,
but I used to like completely discount the category of shirt.
And now I'm like, you know what?
There's something to a V-neck.
It's not all horrible.
So don't judge a shirt by its V-neck.
Like keep an open mind with V-necks
because I used to hate them in all forms.
And now like slowly but surely over the last few years
I've bought V-neck things and been like,
why do I like this?
And like doubted myself.
No, no, no, it's actually, it can be cute.
I like V-necks now.
Okay, not all of them, but good ones.
Next we have Capri length pants.
I used to think Capri length pants sort of like
made me look short or I don't know,
or were just like two 2010s.
I actually think Capri length,
like I used to discount Capri length completely.
I was like, Capri length can never be cool,
can never be chic, can never be fashionable.
It is just a length of pant that I don't even consider.
Okay?
Like I felt a very similar way about the Capri length pant
as I did with the V-neck shirt.
Now I realize Capris can actually be very cute
and there's so many different ways to style them
that are interesting, like a capri little black legging
with like a scrunchie little sock
and like a little flat shoe, like a little red flat,
you know, of some sort, or like a little loafer
and then like a little button down shirt
and then like maybe a little sweater on top.
I don't know, there's just like a lot you can do with it or maybe a little sweater on top. I don't know, there's just like a lot you can do with it.
Or like a little pair of like, I don't know, not like full cargo, but like cargoish sort
of capris.
I don't know.
I like capri length pants.
Even like a dress pant that's capri length, I actually really want to find a good pair.
I just haven't found a good pair.
But I think capri length is very underrated still, even though it's definitely more trendy now
than it was say five years ago.
I think Capri length is so cute.
And I actually do think it's timeless
as long as the Capris are somewhat versatile and simple
and they're not like too Y2K or like too,
you know what I mean, too stylized.
Okay, next we have short hair.
I used to sort of always believe that on myself anyway,
I never, like, I have always thought
there are certain people who look so cute with short hair.
I just have never thought it was me, you know?
I always thought that long hair looked better on me
and that I should just always have long hair
because it will always look better on me.
And I used to sort of think, like a lot of people say that everyone looks better without
bangs.
I don't know if you've heard that sort of saying or that belief, but a lot of people
believe that some people can look good with bangs, but everyone will look better without
them.
And that's kind of how I felt with short hair.
I was always like, short hair can look really cute, but I bet everyone would look better without them. And that's kind of how I felt with short hair. I was always like short hair can look really cute, but I bet everyone would look better with long
hair or at least like, you know, the girly pops, which again is sort of like an immature.
It's an opinion that is very clearly guided by beauty standards and stuff, which by the
way is unavoidable. And I don't blame myself for believing that. I don't blame. I don't
blame you for believing that. Like I don't blame anyone for believing that. I don't blame you for believing that. Like, I don't blame anyone for believing that, okay?
Because beauty standards are here.
They exist, okay? Newsflash.
So me assuming like, hey, as a girl,
I probably would look better with long hair.
Like, especially when you're a teenager or a young adult,
to assume that is incredibly common.
Is it a healthy belief?
Is it a unique personal thought?
No. You know, it's again, it's very based on beauty standards, but it's normal to
believe that. I'm just now at a place where I am aware of beauty standards and
there are still many areas of my life where like I have not been able to
escape the beauty standard. However, when it comes to hair anyway, I am no longer of the belief
that everyone looks better or every girly pop looks better. Like I have shed that belief
and now I'm like, no, I think I actually look better with short hair. I think I look better
with short hair and I like everything about having short hair better. It's more comfortable.
Oh, if you don't know, I did cut my hair. I used to have sort of longish brown hair and then I cut it and I bleached it and I have very very short hair.
I actually just got another trim today. So it's even shorter
than what you see of my hair right now on the internet. I've since cut it shorter. It's very short and I'm loving it.
Because number one, I love styling it. I think it looks great with clothes and it
has such a strong vibe to it that my long hair didn't have. I'm absolutely having the
most fun ever styling it. Also, I think it's actually more flattering on me and some people
might disagree and I'm still learning how to style it. I'm not saying every single clip
or video of me on the internet right now shows my short hair at its best.
I've been figuring out how to style it and it's been a journey.
So if you see some bad hair days of my short hair online, that is me learning.
But I can say in general, it's more flattering on me when styled right than the long hair.
And I just think short hair is a vibe.
And I used to really just not like it.
I just thought it was like never as flattering as long hair. And I just think short hair is a vibe. And I used to really just not like it. I just thought it was like never as flattering as long hair.
And now I've been proven wrong.
Next, we have flat shoes in general,
like ballet flats, you know,
like super flat sort of little mules
or like little flat sandals,
like any sort of flat shoe,
even like a flat sneaker,
like flat shoes in general.
I used to hate super flat shoes.
I thought that they made me look short.
I used to have a hard time styling them
because I always felt like I was really like top heavy.
And like, I don't know, like when you're building an outfit,
you want things to feel balanced.
And for some reason, I always had a hard time balancing
like a small daintier shoe.
It was easier for me to style like a big bulky shoe.
I don't know why that was, but I used to feel that way.
And now for some reason, I don't have any trouble
with styling like a slimmer shoe.
And I like the look of them better, honestly.
Like I'm wearing so many little ballet flats
and little like thin dainty little loafers and little mules.
Like I love little slim dainty shoes these days.
Don't know what's happening.
Maybe it's because I cut all my hair off and now I have like short hair and it just feels
more balanced with like a dainty or shoe.
I don't know.
I don't know what it is, but I think that they're more classic, more timeless.
It's like, if you look back in time, majority of shoes had a pretty flat sole.
You're not seeing a bunch of shoes
with these big platform chunky ass soles, right?
This is ultimately the most timeless sort of shoe
is a flat shoe.
And I also think I used to believe that
the only flat shoe that existed was like a ballet flat.
And I was like, ballet flats are gonna come in and out.
I don't really wanna participate in that.
But there are so many shoes that are like flats,
you know, like thin flat shoes that are not a ballet flat.
I guess I just didn't realize that.
I don't know.
Anyway, I'm loving flat shoes.
Okay, next we have silver jewelry and silver hardware.
I mean, this has been going on for a while now.
I've been wearing primarily silver
jewelry for the last year. And before that, I was only wearing gold. And I don't really know what
changed. I think my style evolved and I don't know. I just like now I prefer silver hardware.
And it was weird because I used to hate, like I had this phase where I hated silver hardware.
I think it's because I almost traumatized myself. Like in like 2019, I was wearing only silver jewelry
and I was kind of wearing like E-girl, like goth style, like jewelry, not goth, but like
emo. How do I explain it? It was like, it was kind of, yeah, it was kind of gothic style
jewelry though, honestly. Like I was wearing like sword earrings or like angel necklace or like, you know, and
it was very like E-girl, TikTok vibe.
Okay.
And I one day woke up and I was like, oh my God, that is so cringe.
I can't wear that anymore.
And then I switched to gold jewelry and I was wearing more timeless gold jewelry, like
gold charms, gold hoops, you know, like I switched over to that
and it matched my style at the time because I was wearing, I don't know, like the color
palette I was wearing was very warm toned. It just made sense with gold jewelry. And
then now I've, I don't know, like changed the color palette I've been wearing. I wear
darker colors nowadays, like dark olive greens a lot,
and black, I wear a lot of black recently.
And I don't know, just silver hardware looks better.
And I think I like it better with my skin tone.
I'm just, I just think silver is the move.
I like it.
I don't know why, it's so weird.
But I hated it and now I like it.
And I think it's very chic.
I mean, I also love gold jewelry too.
I think both are good.
I think not one is better than the other.
I think it just depends on what color scheme you're wearing at the time and what works
best with your skin tone and with your hair color and everything.
Like, it just, it depends on who you are, which actually leads us to all black outfits.
I used to be kind of anti all black outfits
because I just felt like it's kind of a cop out.
Like, come on, you know, wear some color.
It's fun.
I'm so sorry.
I love an all black outfit.
I wear all black all the time now.
It always fucking looks good.
It always looks good.
It always looks chic.
It always looks elevated.
I fucking love an all black outfit,
especially when my hair is bleached.
And now that my hair is bleached,
whoa, an all black outfit. oh my God, I love.
There's almost nothing better than an all black outfit.
Like I love all black.
I'm so into it right now.
I'm so like not into bright colors at all right now.
I'm loving all black with like maybe little pops
of like maroon or like olive green or like brown or gray, gray,
oh my god, gray and black, oh my god, love. I just, that's the color palette I'm leaning towards.
I like dark colors right now. In an all black outfit, to me, there's nothing wrong with it.
In fact, I think it's great. And last but not least, I used to hate a baseball cap. I thought,
it's great. And last but not least, I used to hate a baseball cap. I thought it wasn't cute. There was a period of time where I was experimenting with the trucker hat, which
is not something I'm necessarily proud of. The trucker hat, especially the Von Dutch
trucker hat was a big trend, honestly, like four years ago now. I mean, it definitely
was short-lived. I mean, people are still wearing the Von Dutch hat, but it's not what it used to be. I played in that world. Always ironically,
though, I don't think I ever like wore a trucker hat and was like serious. I think it was always
kind of like having fun with fashion, being silly with fashion, even if it didn't always
read that way. But baseball caps, like, you know, like a classic baseball cap that says fucking, I don't know, like Key West, Florida on it, or it says like Marlboro cigarettes or, you know, like a baseball
cap, classic just cap. Although Marlboro, oh my God, I can't ever say Marlboro, Marlboro.
Wearing cigarette merch to me, I don't like it.
That was a trend a few years ago too.
So that was a bad example because I actually really don't like that.
I think that that's cringe.
I actually just donated a camel hat.
I had a camel cigarettes hat and I donated it because I was like, okay, number one, I'm
not trying to promote nicotine consumption at all.
Nicotine has already fucked up my life enough.
I don't even want to wear this hat.
But also, I just think it's kind of over.
Cigarette merch, eh, over.
But anyway, baseball caps in general, Key West, Florida, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the
little baseball caps, I would try to wear them and I could never figure out
a way to style them.
I was like, I always just feel dumpy or like,
my face doesn't look good.
I don't know how to do my hair.
Like, I don't know, like, do I look too, you know, masculine?
Like, I was very against baseball caps
and I would try to wear them and I'd wear them
every once in a while.
But I was never fully committed to it
and I always kind of deep down hated them.
And then now I fully just love them.
Like I love a baseball cap.
I've been wearing them a lot recently
and now I'm wearing them with my full chest.
You know what I mean?
Like it used to be that I'd wear them.
See, I don't want to sound like a hypocrite
because on my Instagram,
you might go back and see me wearing a baseball cap
every once in a while because it did happen.
But it was always because I was trying,
like it wasn't genuine.
It was like, ah, I guess this would kind of look cool
with this baseball cap, but like, I don't know.
Like, do I even like this?
Like I wasn't, I wore them,
but I had spite for them at the same time.
Whereas now I just fully love them.
Like I think baseball caps are phenomenal.
They're comfortable, they're great for a bad hair day,
but they also can be a really chic accessory at times.
I would say the only challenge is finding a good baseball cap.
What I do is I buy them thrifted or vintage,
and then I will, like, soak them to clean them
because I don't want to get lice.
But I think vintage ones tend to be cuter,
but you should probably soak them so that you don't get lice. But I think vintage ones tend to be cuter, but you should probably soak them
so that you don't get lice.
Okay, that's all I got.
