Hey, what's going on? It's Quinn David Furnace. Welcome to my show.
Quinn David Furnace presents the Bean Town Podcast for Saturday, June.
What is it? 19th, 2021. What's going on? How are you? And what is happening? My name is
Quinn, and this is my show. And thank you for listening. It's our father's day
slash kickoff to summer spectacular. And I'm just going to get one thing out of the way real quick here before anything
else because it's slightly disappointing and I'm disappointed in myself and
frustrated whatever. Here's the deal folks. there's not going to be a happy father's day song this year. And I know it's disappointing. It has
turned into somewhat of a tradition here on the show. And I'll say
this, I won't rule it out. Because I have something in the
works. I've been thinking about it for about a week now, playing
around on the piano, trying to come up with something that feels inspired, authentic, and genuine, and also catchy and fun to
listen to. And I mean the process currently of creating something. It's about
halfway finished, it's not ready yet. And I decided rather than try to rush something and just put
it out there just for the sake of meeting the deadline, I'm not going to do it because
it's not ready yet. And one of the reasons, and I apologize for this, but the primary
reason it's not ready, and here's the truth for you.
This is our show for the 19th of June.
I am recording it early in the week.
And the reason for that is very, very simple.
So it's actually Tuesday afternoon, believe it or not,
although we have, hopefully,
if you were listening to this,
successfully delayed the release. And the last time we tried that, it did not work out well. Although we have hopefully if you are listening to this successfully
Delayed the release I know last time we tried that it did not work out well I think I I think I know what I'm doing this time around we're doing a delayed release for this upcoming weekend our father's day show because
Wednesday is a normal day of work and then I'm going out with
Hashtag girlfriend of the podcast Rachel Ramos and night Thursday. I have
Slammed with work all day literally don't get off until 9 p.m.
downtown and then
Friday I'm also downtown working and then going heading to Milwaukee after that and the weekend
I'm in Wisconsin the whole weekend
hanging out with a former college roommate.
And so by the time I get back,
it's like Sunday at 10 o'clock or so.
And I'm just, that's literally what's happening
between now and our normal upload recording deadline,
which would be end of the day Sunday.
So we are pre-recording this and I'll be honest with you,
we're going to pre-record next week's episode as well, the reason for that being I'm heading
out of the country for the first time since I was what, 21 years old, something like that,
I have not loved the country in a very long time. So I am, we're going to the Dominican Republic,
Rachel and I, the Caribbean,
gonna feel like a pirate about that shipjack.
So that's gonna be pre-recorded as well.
And I apologize,
cause it just feels a little bit less authentic, a little less genuine, right?
I don't often pre-record shows. And typically, if I am recording earlier in the week, I just release it when it happens.
But because it's Tuesday, I'm just feeling like, you know what? We can't drop a show on Tuesday.
It's still too early. I think Thursday is about as early as I get the occasional
Wednesday special, but Thursday is about as early as I can do. So we're releasing this
on Saturday, and I'm not going to promise that the song is going to come out in full form
at some point, because I don't want to set myself up for disappointment under promise over deliver.
That's how I've gotten this far in my professional career.
But I do have something in the works.
I've been playing around with it and recording myself on video just to kind of save progress,
see where I'm at, not lose track of ideas, that sort of thing.
So if you
are interested, if you're new to the show, if you're a new listener, this is our
fourth year of the Bean Town podcast, this is episode. I think this might be
officially episode 180, something like that, plus some specials here and there.
But in the past three years, we have done just kind of tongue in cheek for the most part, songs for our Father's Day show,
was dedicated to my dad, Steve Fernis,
who was just on the show.
One of our last guests actually, Steve Fernis,
was on our Christmas special.
We did a hostess and little Debbie snack cake taste test.
One of objectively one of the more fun episodes I've done
in a long time here on the show. There are objectively one of the more fun episodes I've done in a long
time here on the show. There are a lot of good stories and stuff that accompanied that as
well. But they've been kind of tongue in cheek. They feature guitar, piano, vocals, and some
wild garage band sound effects, or audio kind of layers effects, that sort of thing. And so we've done three in the past.
The first one was more or less about our trip to Florida
when I was a kid, and getting food poisoning
from a Bob Evans, and I think there were some talk
about mummies as well.
The second one was more of like a kind of a slower ballad with some really funky audio effects
and it was, had to do with macy's and Thanksgiving A Parades and that was fun.
Last year was kind of a Randy Newman parody and he even featured a vocal impression.
And this year, I got to tell you what I'm working on currently is more
kind of straightforward piano ballad, not planning for any crazy effects. Might do some
like backing vocals, that sort of thing, but think faithfully by journey. And that's kind
of a place to start. So I apologize one more time that it's not ready. I would love to keep working
on it and have it be ready soon. But I do want to take the opportunity before we jump into some other
things here, which will be hot tips for a 100% capacity, no restrictions summer since we haven't
had one of those in a little bit here. But I do a couple of things,
it's gonna be a shorter episode
because I'm actually working right now.
And I didn't realize up until this morning
that I needed to record today.
So, usually with these shows,
I'm a meticulous planner, I'm writing,
I'm doing practice shows,
hours and hours of time and effort
will go into this bean-tongued podcast every week.
This week is a little bit more on the fly
and I'm not particularly prepared.
So it's gonna be a shorter show
because I really don't have that much to say.
I feel, I know I last recorded on Friday, June 11th,
which was already four days ago, but honestly, I don't know what it is.
It feels like I just recorded like two days ago, something like that.
So I'm a little like I haven't recharged with stories and anecdotes, if you will.
Second thing, listen to discretion is advised when you're listening to the
Bean Tom podcast.
Number one, this podcast is objectively terrible.
Number two, we'll occasionally use some adult language here on the show.
And number three, happy Father's Day to my dad, Steve Fernies.
You know him on the show.
He's been on many times before.
Roast of Quinted Furnace, our Taste Test Specialist, Christmas.
You hear his phone number every single week,
541-410-0316.
And if you are listening in Central Oregon,
you need to...
All right, the recording just randomly cut out.
Not sure why, we only lost about five seconds
because I was looking right at it.
But not quite sure what happened again.
If you need your home inspector in Central Oregon, call Steve 541-410-0316, and he will
get you taken care of, and we'll get to our adries in a little bit here.
Happy Father's Day to my dad and happy Father's Day to all the dads out there listening.
My dad is turning the big 60 this year. It's quite a celebration and that happens
to be kind of the main, I wouldn't call it a main theme, but it's featured in the lyrics of this
project I'm working on for this year. So I am hopeful that we'll get it out there. But yeah,
out there. But yeah, dad hope you're doing well. Hope you enjoy those new shoes that we got you. And that's the thing with my my parents, their birthdays and Father's Day slash Mother's
Day. They kind of combine them for a one to punch. They're just far enough apart to where
they get, you know, we can't combine it into one holiday. I know they did that
on purpose. It's all a big, it's all a big collaboration to get us kids to spend more
money on gifts. My mom's birthday is in late June coming up soon here in a matter of weeks. And you know, you got Mother's Day
in early May. So you got, it's just far enough apart, right? Just longer than a month to
where it's like, oh, well, we can't combine this now. And same goes for my dad, where it's
Father's Day this weekend and his birthday is in mid July. So it's like just beyond the reaches of,
let's just combine and do one big thing.
Next thing you know every year,
you spent thousands and thousands of dollars
between Father's Day, Mother's Day, Birthdays,
Flag Day, Juneteenth.
I have a family friend member who I found out is has
Friday off for Juneteenth, which I think Juneteenth is technically the 19th,
which is technically fingers crossed when this recording is coming out, and she
has the Friday the day off before.
That's a revolutionary concept.
I mean, I've heard of people getting ran days off for while things like when we were growing
up the Rockford Public School kids would get Polaski Day, Kazmir Polaski.
And I don't get this in my job, but other people get like, president stay off.
People all the time get Columbus Day off.
I don't have Columbus Day off.
I don't think I've ever had Columbus Day off.
Maybe for some kind of classes in school, I don't recall though.
I don't think so.
But now people are getting Juneteenth off, apparently.
Not me.
Not me.
But Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, my dad,
my grandfather, Grandpa Dave, who's also been on this show.
And yeah, I refrain from wishing
myself a Happy Father's Day because I do not think I am a
Father.
It just feels like one of those things that at some point eventually would get traced
back to you so I don't think that it's happened. Although the possibility exists, okay?
Or maybe, well, let's not get down the rabbit hole there.
If I always go back to that one Vince Vaughn movie
where he's like a sperm donor
and he somehow connects with like a thousand kids,
something like that, I don't know what it's called.
It's one of those classic Vince Vaughn movies from the past ten years that are 10 to 15 years that are just like
the most throwaway C plus comedy films. They're all like 80 minutes long. They feature some combination of
of like Dave Franco, Leslie Bibb,
those sort of crop. Kevin James is not typically in Vince von Wies,
but I kind of think of Kevin James movies in the same way.
One step above Sandler, many, many steps below,
literally everything else.
So yeah, happy Father's Day.
And again, hoping that we have the song out here quickly.
I don't know, I don't think,
my recording is tending to a pretty good job
of kind of cutting out of the background noise,
but there has been some recurring noise happening today that I can't figure out what it is.
It's outside the apartment, obviously. I got my window open. It's a beautiful sunny day again
recording on a Tuesday afternoon here in Chicago. It's about 75 in sunny, nice breeze.
Humidity is finally lowered slightly, just gorgeous day, but I'd say every minute or so
for about three to four seconds. It's a super
high-pitched
I'm at like a like a squeaky wheel or something and
I can't even I'm trying to think live on air like what to compare it to
But it's just like the squeakyest,
if you had some sort of metal, something
that you were rotating,
that desperately needed half a can of WD-40,
that's what it is.
But it's bamboozling to me and perplexing
to think about what it potentially is.
It's in the neighbor's yard or something, I don't know.
Because it's a very consistent noise.
It sounds the exact same every single time.
And it comes on for about five seconds at a time.
And it's every minute or so, every two minutes,
something like that.
But it sounds exactly the same. Like the cadence, the pitch, every minute or so, every two minutes, something like that, but it sounds exactly the same.
Like the cadence, the pitch, every time it occurs,
it's exactly the same.
I don't think it's any sort of like,
you know, the obvious choice since it's summer would be like,
is it's some sort of cooling or air conditioning.
I don't think so.
And it's also a new noise.
You know, I haven't heard it before.
So I'm just trying to, I'm just looking outside.
I'm peering, PE, R-I-N-G.
Remember a peerless price?
He played for the Buffalo Bills, I think.
Great, great, great, like, average football player. It's very irritating. And I'm
very tempted to just shut the window because there's a very big, one thing I've learned
in my new apartment is that there's a very big level of noise difference between window
open and window closing. It's just one window and I know that's kind of intuitive
That's kind of straightforward, but like much bigger than it anticipated
So when I shut my window it gets
Eerily quiet in here. It must be the brick brick house
Shuts all the noise out
But yeah, when I got that window open, because I'm right
on the ground level, you hear a lot of stuff, including the spirit irritating squeaky noise.
That's all, that's the best way I can describe it. It's squeaky, squeaky to a fault. Let's
do some quick ad reads here. And in our second half, we're gonna be throwing out some tips
to maximize your summer, okay?
It's already, by the time you're hearing this,
it's already June 19th.
And it's like, for a lot of people,
when you think more like the traditional academic calendar idea,
summer in one sense of the word ends in two months. In fact, for for our law
school, orientation begins August 16th, which is less than two months away. And the thing with
Chicago is summer from a climate perspective, and that's going to go until mid to late September. So you've got
another month and oftentimes change after that. But it's just like, hey, it's already, we're
counting down the weeks now to where it's over, which is wild, because the next thing you know,
Christmas, the holidays, and we're back to running in the snow.
But let's not think about that too much.
It's not too early to plan for your best summer life.
Are you tired of selling your house for less than a quarter?

I want to give a shout out to the Samson Q2U series. Samson has got crisp, clear audio quality.
It's biblical in nature.
And if the technologies are round back then, I bet God would have used it or Moses would have used it to, well,
Moses was doing the right and down of
the Ten Commandments.
God was speaking them.
And we say this all the time, but quite literally, when God speaks, he uses a Samson.
And then, what do you think about that?
Oftentimes when we're reading about
Easter rolls around and the 10 Commandments and the 10 plagues of Egypt.
And you like to, or oftentimes there will be
news articles out there that are like,
explaining naturally what actually happened
in the 10 plagues of Egypt's, of Egypt. And it'll be like, you know, some, you know,
plague of locusts or like a, a, a, a cloud from a Indonesian volcano that
caused the three days of darkness, whatever, yada, yada, yada. What do they do?
How do they try to rationalize or explain the parting of the Red Sea? That's what I want to know, because that doesn't seem like something that happens casually in nature.
If any biblical scientists out there, that sounds like a good major at BYU or
oral Roberts or Dallas Baptist University, Biblical Science.
If anyone out there wants to venture an explanation, email us
beantompodcastyahoo.com and we'll get right to it.
One quick other shout out, I know I was talking a couple weeks ago on the show about a college acquaintance
New podcast and I was I was giving them a lot of grief
for a couple of different things
And not to pile on here, but the other day they were you know going on social media kind of
Trying to plug or promote that the second episode ever was going to be
released and I haven't listened to it or anything but to advertise the second
show coming out which they do you know it's highly technical or highly
it's got video audio multiple cameras whatever the word for that is.
They shared in order to promote the second episode drop.
They shared a video that was the same video they shared for the first episode drop.
So I'm getting nothing new from this promotion, okay?
And it's just like you you got it, you got it up the yanny.
You got to get, give me a taste of episode two here, okay?
Because otherwise, I don't know why I should be listening.
And also, I still don't know what this show is about.
Unless you got that raw combination of star power, good looks, and add sponsors to pay the bills.
Your show needs to have a purpose, okay.
Just like that purpose-driven life, what's that pastor Warren, Neal Clark Warren guy who founded a
e-harmony
You need a you need a purpose

Welcome to part two
This week's installment of the Bean Tom podcast. I got to tell you I was just on Instagram while reading the ads because I'm a kind of a multi-tasker and
I have so many friends who are in Oahu right now.
And I am just having a major case of the grumps.
And yes, I know that I'm going to the Dominican Republic in a week absolutely and I'm very excited.
But I was supposed to go to Hawaii last April, COVID canceled it.
It's my last state I want to go there so bad.
And I still have my flight credit from that.
I think it expires in like, I don't know, couple months,
something like that.
So I got to find something to use it on.
I'm not going to Hawaii this year because it's just
I can't afford another big trip like that. So I'm going to have to use it on. I'm not going to Hawaii this year because it's just a can't afford
another big trip like that. So I'm gonna have to use my flight credit on something else, but I don't
know. I don't know what I have planned or what I want to do. We'll see TBD. Friends, here are some tips
to have a really fun summer. Number one, get out in the sun.
We have been spending so much time on Zoom
for way too long, looking on our computers
just waiting for stuff to happen.
Feeling like we have to be in front of our computers
all the way until 5 p.m.
I am here to tell you, just like that Kelly Clarkson song break away from
Princess Diaries, take a chance, take a risk and break away from your computer.
Get out, in the sun, have your phone close by so you can get any pertinent
urgent notifications and every once in a while, yeah you'll get you'll get
stung and you'll have to hurry or scurry back
to your computer in order to get something done. But I am here to tell you take that chance
go out there get some sun, enjoy, you know, enjoy the time outside. Fresh air, sweat a little bit,
that's what showers are for, Go out there, get some sun.
Here's another tip.
Every once in a while, you're going to feel an urge
or an urge to splurge.
Okay.
Urge to splurge.
Write this down, I feel like I'm giving a sermon right now.
And I don't know what it's going to be
for every person that's different,
but here's an example. Last week, I definitely did not duck out of work before 5 p.m. I definitely
waited until 5 p.m. to leave work, a.k. sitting in front of my computer, waiting for something
to happen. That absolutely happened. And I went to the lake to grab some rays before the day ended.
And I was just, this was like a Wednesday or Thursday,
very random day.
And I was just like, you know what?
I want a diet doctor pepper from 7-11, a big gulp.
I never drink soda.
Rarely do I have an urge to drink soda.
I do have a sweet tooth, but I don't like to drink my calories.
I'm much bigger fan of eating my calories.
But I said to myself, you know what?
I like, hey, I'm going to the lake.
It's hot.
I'm not looking to drink, because it was a weekday.
Otherwise, I'd bring with some white wine.
That was just like, I'm gonna get a big gulp.
You go in there, it's 89 cents or whatever.
You're refreshed, you're cool.
It's great.
And I haven't done it since I haven't felt
the urge to have soda since.
I don't think I'm gonna have a soda
the rest of the summer probably, but I just want it too.
And I don't know what your urge is going to be. I don't know what
you're going to want to splurge on, but it's summer, baby. Next thing you know, the days are going to
and it's going to be dark at 2 30 p.m. And all you want it going to want to do is sit inside
under a blanket and watch house of cards again. Okay. So splurge, okay?
Not all the time, just a little bit here and there.
Do some grilling or at least have some grill-oriented foods
if you don't have a grill like myself. I've never since, you know, leaving my parents home
at the right, young age of 18, I've never since, you know, leaving my parents home at the right, young age of 18,
I've never owned a grill. But that doesn't stop me from, you know, pan-frying some sausages or
brats, or, for example, last night, and actually the plan is to do it tonight and tomorrow night as well.
Some dynamite chicken sandwiches. You get a chicken, one big chicken breast,
you slice it in half long ways.
So you got two smaller halves now.
And I got some bread, slice it up to make some buns,
butter that baby up, and then you throw on your chicken breast.
I got a slice of cheddar cheese,
mustard, I got some peppers on there.
If I had some more of four-site with the ingredients,
I would throw on some lettuce and stuff too.
I don't happen to have it right now,
but make that with some, I mean,
if you're feeling really
feisty, you can throw some like fries on there. I didn't want to
double down on the carbs. So I just made like some, some broccoli on
the stove top. Tonight, I got some corn, corn's a great one. But
just have some fun summary foods, okay? Whether you don't need a
grill to feel like you're having fun,
but if you really want, you can get a bag of charcoal
and just smell it, okay?
Sometimes that's fun to do as well.
Take a trip.
I know we were just talking about a wa'ahu
we talked about the Caribbean, those are big trips,
those are expensive trips.
But sometimes, and I haven't done
much of this lately, because of COVID,
but now that we're kind of coming out of it,
and least from a restrictions perspective,
just get away.
Do something you don't normally do.
Go somewhere, explore.
You don't have to make memories that last the lifetime. You don't have to have much of an agenda. Just
leave and get away from your normal stuff, okay. This weekend I'm going to
Milwaukee to see a friend of the podcast, Form of Collegeroom at Sam Anderson.
We're going up to a lake house with his parents for one night.
And it's a short trip.
I'm taking a late train Friday night,
coming back Sunday night.
But it's just like get out there and do something.
And frankly, in late July or early August,
I'll probably rent a car and take a three day weekend.
And it'll be a cheap short trip,
but just something to be different,
to have fun, to go explore,
and just do something other than be on the couch.
Okay, so go out there, take a trip.
If it's big, great, if it's small, great.
Okay.
Going back a little bit to urge to splurge.
There's doesn't have to be a splurge,
but it's just nice.
You don't have to do a full wardrobe change,
but buy a couple of pieces that you're excited about.
Summer pieces, whether they are sun dresses or rompers or
button-down shirts or a fun new set of swim trunks. Whatever it is you want to do
have a little fun take you know 50 bucks, 100 bucks whatever buy two or three
pieces three or four pieces maybe. Sand maybe. Sandals are great to get.
And just get stuff that is going to make you feel
bubbly, vibrant, and refreshed.
Okay?
I'm not a huge shopper myself personally,
but I gotta tell you,
as someone who doesn't care a ton about overall appearances,
at least in terms of outside expectations, and also
someone who doesn't get a ton of like gratification or satisfaction from shopping for myself, it's
still nice every once in a while to get a couple new things.
Next up, and if you think I'm reading from a list, I'm not.
I know this all sounds very planned out
and meticulously thought in advance of.
But next up, something that I'm taking my own advice on,
read a book, and I know there are all different types of ways
to read books now, physical books, audios, e-readers, hiring a second
grader from an elementary school who needs help with reading skills to intern for you
for a week and read you a book. These are all viable options. I'm a big fan though with digital world and zoom calls and
you know
illegal turtle racing
Get a physical book and just
Literally turn your phone off
This doesn't have to be an all they think this is just half an hour to an hour
be Unconnected, if you will.
And just read the book.
Try to do it outside if you can, get some fresh air.
Listen to natural sounds, noises, grunts,
all that stuff, and just read.
There's nothing on the internet
that won't be there in 45 minutes when you come back, okay?
Big fan of that.
Haven't started yet this summer, but planning to.
What are some of your tips for this summer?
What would you like others to know? Email us. Beentown Podcasts, Yahoo.com. Again, it's Beentown, the Indian podcast, Yahoo.com.
And we'll read them on the air next chance we get. You can also make a fun
summary beverage. It can be alcoholic. It doesn't have to be alcoholic. But just
something light, crisp, a little sweet,
just have some fun with it, okay?
Oh, also, especially if you're in a big city like Chicago,
there are going to be a lot of fun bars
and places to try new things that you have never been to
nor have you ever heard of.
Do some Google searching, open up a night in your
sketch, and just go out for an hour or two, invite a friend, have a buddy come
with, or take your partner, and just explore it. Try something new, not every
place you go to is going to be memorable. Some places might be awful, but you just gotta try.
Go to a ball game.
If you can't afford rigly tickets like myself,
you can go to a White Talks game.
It's a fun place, they're playing well, good amenities,
or you can go if you're more into the suburban
lifestyle. Like we went to a windy city, I keep saying, every time I said, windy Cindy, great
nickname, windy city thunderbolts game, they play in Crestwood south of the city, and the game
itself, not that entertaining, it's just kind of like whatever, so frontier league.
But it's fun, you got sheep concessions, drink a beer,
go hang out, and just vibe, okay, just relax.
Those are some of my tips on how to enjoy your summer.
And I'm a big fan of, look, even when
if you're tied to like a school calendar or something like that,
whether you're attending or you're an educator or whatever it is,
like even when you go back, make time when you can
to continue living that summer life
until you physically can't anymore because it's 35 degrees and you have to go inside.
So keep those vibes going because we were robbed of them last summer.
Go to a festival, go see some live music, have a fun drink, go visit a place you never visited before, drink a diet doctor pepper, ice cold, cold as the
Rockies, and all those other things I just mentioned. Happy Father's Day to my
dad and my grandfather and all of the dads out there. And I hope everyone is
doing well. I apologize once again for not only pre-recording but not having
the Father's Day song ready. I'm hopeful
that I will get it up and running for you in the coming weeks here. Next week's show
is also going to be pre-recorded and I apologize for that as well but I gotta tell you, I am
trying to bring as little technology over season as possible. And it would be really cool to do our first ever international
Bington podcast, but I just, I would rather like try it in Canada or something, which I
really want to go to. I haven't been in Canada for a while, but I can't, I physically can't
go right now. I'm not allowed to per Canadian government regulations.
So that will be the plan when we eventually get around to a first international broadcast.
But I'm not feeling like bringing a whole extra laptop and podcasting equipment just to
do a half hour show live from overseas and say that I did it.
So we'll have to wait on that. But you'll hear
the full recap. Trust me. Once I'm back, I can promise you that. That's what I got for
you. I hope everyone is doing well and enjoy your summer. Hopefully some of these tips
helped you out just a little bit. That's what I got. Everyone, we're going to get our music going, stay safe,
stay sane, and I will check in on you next time. Bye! I'm just going to sit here. ndご視聴ありがとうございました
