Hey, what's going on? It's Quinn Davis furnace. Welcome to my show.
Quinn Davis furnace presents the Bington podcast for Sunday, August 16th, 2020. What's going on?
How are you? What's happening? My name is Quinn. This is my show I'm a creator writer
best boy
and
Snacker of the show. I've been snacking a lot
past couple days
My whole eating
World has been turned upside down
the past week or so we're gonna be talking
about that in a couple minutes here why that's the case I'm tired man I'm
actually taking a break from working here in a Sunday afternoon to come to you live. That's that's how much I
care about all you guys, the fans, you know, got stuff that I need to be doing.
You probably wonder, and hey Quinn, why are you working on a Sunday? Well, been
gone up until a couple hours ago.
We'll get to that later.
First and foremost,
listen to discretion as advised
when you're listening to being
tell podcasts number one,
we'll occasionally use some language.
Number two, this podcast is objectively terrible,
but I think all of you, the bean heads out there,
hashtag friends of the podcast for tuning in.
And before we go any further,
I want to give a special shout out.
It's my girlfriend, Rachel Raymos.
Happy birthday.
Turn 25 yesterday.
You know she's gonna be renting all sorts of cars now.
That young driver's fee is gone.
Very exciting day. Spent a couple days out on the lake
celebrating with her and some friends. It was a very fun time. We a bougie Airbnb, a lot of fun space. We had a king bed, big fan of the king bed.
You can just roll over and over and over for days.
And you still don't run out of real estate.
It's a crazy thing, man.
And my toes don't hang off the edge of the bed, which is exciting.
No one likes hanging toes.
But yeah, it was nice.
I got to take some boats out on the lake for the birthday,
which was very cool.
And yeah, had something else going on on a Friday,
so it was very busy.
Took a vacation day.
My second one of the year, by August 16th.
Kicking a wondering, I got something stuck in my teeth.
Hang on, we're taking a pause.
Okay, I had a chip particle stuck
in between my wire and my bottom teeth.
I just could not go on in that condition.
I've got this stupid semi-permanent wire.
I don't even remember that the orthodontist put in
when he got my braces off.
And now it's like, I don't want this.
Because food just gets stuck in there all the time.
I mean, I'm completely used to it.
You know, I've had it for whatever, five years.
But I don't want it.
But it's really like gluing in there with some concrete mix or something.
I don't know.
You know, as an unregistered nurse, I do plenty of DIY medical procedures, but I don't
know this one might be too much to handle.
But yeah, happy birthday.
Rachel, I hope it was a fun time. Because I took a freighter off, I am now doing the work. Isn't that always
how it goes? You take a vacation day and instead of just working a day less, it just means that you do more work when you get back. And work on a Sunday, in addition to a Monday.
So, what's even the point of vacation, you know?
The big news this week was the Tornatic activity, a tornado in Rogers Park.
I never thought I would live to see the day. You know, you think about tornadoes? You think,
hey, if I go live in a big city like Chicago, I'm never going to have to worry about tornadoes.
Like Chicago, I'm never gonna have to worry about tornadoes. And the nice thing about Chicago is you don't have to worry about hurricanes either.
It's mainly blizzards and wind and coyotes are really the big three and heart disease.
Big four.
You never expect tornadoes to hit.
So I get going on Monday, working from home.
And you know, check in, I try to stay up to date with the forecast, the radar, what have you.
And I see there's going to be a chance for rain later in the afternoon, like 4 p.m.
Mike, all right, that's usually when I run.
But I don't mind running into the rain. It's not too bad.
So I'm going about my day and as I'm on Twitter, start to see articles about how Chicago is about to experience one of the like gustiest fronts, gustiest, G-U-S-T-I-E-S-T.
It's ever experienced.
Well, that might not be fun for running.
So I adjusted my running schedule.
I went a little bit early in the afternoon.
It's that I'll just come back and work from like three to five. It'll be fine.
So I ended up finishing my run around like four, four, 15 and about five, 10 minutes after,
15 maybe. During my run it had already gotten very overcast. About 5, 10, 15 minutes after, let's go with 15.
The wind, it really just goes from overcast to like nighttime outside.
And I was actually inside my apartment on the phone with a prospective student.
And it's kind of wild how it all went down.
I was talking to a prospective student for work
who's really hard to understand.
So I was really just like 100% focused on this colleague.
She didn't speak English very well,
so it was trying really hard to understand what she's saying,
what she was asking, like on the phone,
simultaneously on the computer, trying to look up information for saying, what she was asking, like, on the phone, simultaneously on the computer,
trying to look up information for her, et cetera.
All of this storm is just starting to come crashing in,
and for people who are around it, you know,
it wasn't a long thing.
It lasted maybe five, 10 minutes,
in terms of like the actual wind in the rain.
And just while I'm talking around the phone,
all of a sudden, you see the trees just start
moving like crazy.
And in Rogers Park, so the actual tornado, the path was about a mile north of me.
But we got some big time damage down here.
All of a sudden, I'm looking out the window, like 75% focused on this phone call,
25% focused on looking outside my window.
And I just see this gigantic tree,
not a little guy like a thick boy,
just come crashing down on a bunch of cars
on the cross street where I'm located.
And now you got car alarms going off all of a sudden.
I look down at my computer, I realize the web page is not loaded.
And then I look at my Wi-Fi and I see that that's out.
And then I realize my lights had been on and they're no longer on.
So the power is gone.
And yeah, the storm passes after like five, ten minutes.
I go around for a quick walk outside to assess the damage.
It's pretty brutal.
A piranodris park where the tornado was this is on Monday night
So I take a take a couple laps
To see all what's going on just trees everywhere in the street up against apartment buildings in the alleys
Wherever trees everywhere sidewalks are just completely
Covered in dirt, branches, whatever look like you're at the forest preserve,
and then a whole bunch of down power lines.
So I get back to the apartment, no power.
And I kind of have to make a judgment call with my food, right?
So I'm planning on making jumble-eye, Monday night, it's cooking night.
And I'm like, well, because, you know, my first instinct is like, well, if the power's
out, I shouldn't make a big batch of something, right?
But the other half of it is like, well, the food's going one way or another, right? It's mostly
refrigerated items that are the ingredients. So I decided to make it anyways.
Got to create it with a gas stove because the gas still, you know, feeds in, but
the ignition needs electricity to click on. So I get creative, I do have a lighter, which is clutch. I bought a lighter
from the corner store when I lived in Baltimore because I had a like a week-long
fiasco where my stove was off the rails or something. So I still have this
burner or this lighter because the only thing I've ever used it for
is lighting the stove because I've never smoked anything in my life.
I just have this random ass cheap pick lighter.
So I pull out one of my old tricks from the playbook and I grab a thing of spaghetti, one spaghetti,
I don't know what the singular spaghetti is, a noodle.
And I light that with the lighter,
and then I hold that up to the gas
to get the stove top going, to boil my water,
cook my meat, saute the veggies, all that fun stuff.
And so we cook the jambalaya, but then I'm realizing, hey,
well a lot, a lot of different things come up. First, I got to try to not use my phone very much
because I don't have a way to charge it in my current state. Two, I don't have any candles, no source of light,
whatsoever, beyond my iPhone flashlight.
And clearly I'm not interested in using that up very much.
So it's starting to get dark and eventually and hot.
That's the other, that was another big consideration. It wasn't super toasty out but it was very humid and just in the
apartment with no AC when I can't get the fans going and you're just kind of
stuck there all of a sudden that starts to that starts to creep up on you how
hot it was. So I'm sitting there, it's skinned dark outside,
eat my jumble lia, which is delicious and nailed it.
But then I'm realizing like, I don't have power, I don't have Wi-Fi.
I can't actually do anything.
My, um, tune blast machine, whatever it's called, Kindle.
It was low on battery, not charged.
So I didn't have access to any of the games on that
that I could play offline.
So I'm just kind of sitting there eating, can't watch anything.
I don't need to have a radio, I can listen to.
It's just dark, silent silent staring into the abyss
So I ended up going to bed at like 830
After I'd finished my jumble line and just hoping that the power comes back on sometime
Otherwise the alternative is I'm gonna have to go into my office
And I haven't been in my office since March 16th my birthday
Was the last day I was in the office exactly five months ago
Wake up Tuesday morning power is out still
And I'm like well
Gonna have to go to the office and
Hope and pray.
I mean, at this point, the responsible thing,
you know, 15, 16 hours after the powers out
would have been to dump the fridge right there
and not even just hope the power come back
because it was too far gone at that point.
Your fridge doesn't last very long.
But I left my fridge and my freezer and just
hope, in hopes that when I got back from the office, the power would have been back. So I go down,
I work, it's actually a long day. I was at my office from about nine until six something
doing some presentations. But when I get back,
power is still out at which point to get it dump everything.
So everything in the fridge, everything in the freezer,
and a lot of frozen fruit, some veggies, some meat,
and the worst part was dumping all the jambalaya,
because I couldn't even have it for dinner on Tuesday night
because I was spoiled.
I thought I'd dump that and this brings you full circle
to why my eating's been off this week.
So my routine was thrown into shambles by the power outage
and didn't make in what pancakes on Tuesday night?
No, Wednesday night, Tuesday night I had,
I don't know.
All right, hell if I remember.
Thursday had some breakfast sandwiches.
Stuff was good.
I still have some bagels in the fridge and cheese.
But I don't have any meat for that,
nor do I have any cream cheese.
So, TBDN, what to do with the bagels.
If you have any ideas, email us,
be on top podcast, yahu.com,
and go to the speedin' town,
be on the podcast, yahu.com.
They're blueberry, if that makes a difference.
I know what you're saying.
Quinn, you made breakfast sandwich with blueberry muffins. I did it was an accident. It still tasted delicious
Okay
Don't at me bro
The power keyback early Wednesday morning, which I was grateful for I did not want to go into the office again
on Wednesday
And I did not although I'm going to the office again on Wednesday, and I did not, although I'm going to the office Tuesday
and Wednesday of this week,
which I'm not jazzed for.
But, oh, well.
And yeah, my fridge, I went grocery shopping today
when I got back from the B-Day hang, but yeah the fridge and the freezer are still lacking in
numbers
Because everything got got thrown out so
That's a bummer. We're trying to jump a light again. I couldn't decide if I wanted you know make jump a light again
Or just keep going through rotation. I said, you know what, this jumble I deserve?
Something better.
So we're gonna cook it again tomorrow night.
Extra hot sauce.
Tough on the tummy, but man, it's delicious.
So the power's back, we're all good.
Everyone is fine.
Most of the trees, most of the debris have been cleaned up, etc.
And we're getting back to normal here in Rogers Park, but it was definitely a very frightening incident
to be that close to a tornado. You never expect it to happen
to you until one day it does. So there's your weekend wrap up. Maybe that could be a new segment.
I don't know, the whole show is already kind of a weekend wrap up though, so.
I don't really know if we need something different.
Let's get to some advertisements here and then I'll end it.
It'll be a short episode and that's okay because honestly,
we're recording this at 420 in the afternoon
blaze it. I physically still have worked to do after I do this and I haven't gotten my walk-in
yet today. My walk. W-A-L-K not W-O-K. But yeah, I've got to get my walk in because I've been a lazy turd the past couple of days.
Except for yesterday.
I ran a half marathon yesterday, which was good.
I woke up at about 5 a.m. Everyone else in the Airbnb was cocked.
And it was one of those great things where you wake up,
you get out, you go, you come back, you shower,
you eat something, and then you crawl back into bed,
and then everyone else starts waking up.
It's like you're living your own little,
in your own little world,
your own little bubble by yourself
before anyone else is even conscious yet.
I don't know, you might think I'm weird.
And I don't, and I'm not,
I'll be the first one to say,
I don't wanna wake up at 5 a.m. on a Saturday,
but there is something kind of peaceful
and relaxing about being that isolated. So I did that.
But beyond, I mean other than that, it's just been candies and cookies and jellies and,
well, no jelly, but all sorts of treats, too much sugar.
No alcohol yet, right? I'm still haven't had a drink yet this year.
And I tell you what, the amount of alcohol
that was consumed this weekend by everyone I was with,
if I make it through that, like,
there's nothing I can't do.
But I do need to get a walk in today.
It'll probably be a little brief one, but still important
to stretch your legs.

like the most lit, crazy
Cubs play I've ever seen in my
life. Hang on. I'll give you a
little play by play. I'm watching this
game as I'm reading the ads. Buies
bounces to the pitcher, Hader, who's moving over
towards, that's nuts.
He's moving towards, oh he's out,
nuts.
Well that would have been epic.
Okay, so Hader picks to the ball,
he's running towards first base,
as buys is running towards first base.
Hader like over shoots him and runs past the baseline,
but doesn't tag him and doesn't touch first base.
He'd be in like an absolute dumbass.
So I don't know why he doesn't just touch the base,
why he just doesn't touch by as and said he runs through
the baseline and very nearly missed
him. It does look like he tagged him a split second. Sorry, if you if you could hear that,
I'm not sure how much that microphone picked up. That was just a nuts. I mean, it's not
going to stand. So you're not going to see any good highlights or anything, but just the fact that
I mean haters maybe the best relief pitcher in baseball
And he botched that play very nearly
Yeah, he's out was just wild
Yikes shout it to the Samsung Q2U series. It's got crisp clean audio quality. You love to hear it You love to record with, whether it's the book of Joe or the book of Joel from Genesis Exodus to Revelation and all the ones. In between
when God speaks, he uses a Samson. Cuts by Q. Bob and weave, we all know the hairstyle,
we all love it, but how many Chicago-based independent barbers can actually give it to you
the way you deserve. Enter cuts by Q. It's like enter salmon, but different.
Cuts by Q has been independently owned and operated since 1995 and is probably one of the
better barbershop operations serving Chicago, Cook County, Northwest Indiana, and the
greater Chicago land area.
From beives to bangs, footholds to flat tops and everything in between, you have to call
cuts by Q and 8-1.
Excuse me, I belched.
8152987211 or you can email cuts by Q815, nope.
Cuts by Qiyahu.com, that's cuts.
QUTZ by Q at Yahu.com, all right, let's sing.
Oh, and you need a fresh do,
something snappy and new, just call the expert set cuts by Q. If I
seem a little scatterbrained I apologize it's because I am. There's just a lot between two screens and phone,
and my mind has been focused on work
for way too long this weekend,
and just there's a lot happening.
So I apologize for not bringing my normal focus, passion,
and other stuff to the game today.
Went to my hometown this morning.
Cherry Valley, Illinois.
Just to just on the way back from the lake, to Polka Round,
see some of the sites went through downtown Cherry Valley.
Hasn't changed too much.
Although they took out that that elementary school
is just a big plot of grass now with a little playground in the middle kind of
sad looking. One by my childhood home it's looking good looking fresh. It's a
big fancy car parked in the garage like a Mustang of some kind.
And drove past the Gutierrez's house, the neighbors from across the street who bought
my dad's Honda Accord Stick Shift.
Manual transmission baby, that thing was not in the driveway.
I don't think it's lasted.
RAP. And cherry
thell mall, a classic hotspot. Although the TGI Friday's
at Perryville in Harrison is gone, which is disappointing.
Right? America's number second, number second. America's second favorite restaurant behind Chili's, obviously.
I like when TGIFRIDES comes out with the endless apps promotion.
I think there was a good news article. I don't remember
not in his article blog entry of I think it went viral
Someone went to the TGI Fridays for their endless apps thing and sat there for like not 24 hours
But like the whole time they were open and just ate
And blog their whole experience sounds like something I would do on the bean-ton blog
If you want to catch up on our latest blog posts
We haven't posted in a couple months, but you got would do on the bean-ton blog. And if you want to catch up on our latest blog posts,
we haven't posted in a couple months,
but you got bean-tonpodcast.com slash blog.
That'll do it for you.
But yeah, Cherry Valley, keeping it fresh.
Lot of new developments around town,
which is very exciting.
So I promised I was going to keep this episode short and I am a man of my word because we're
going to get this uploaded and I'm going to go back to work and I've used the contraction
and about 5 million times on this podcast.
I apologize. It's tough trying to record a show
when it's literally about the seventh thing down
on the docket that you're thinking about.
But I said, the fans crave Quinn.
We have not missed an episode of the Beat and Top Podcast since never.
We started running this show in January of 2018, two and a half years ago, and I have brought
you a weekly episode every week since then, including specials.
So, you're welcome, America.
You're welcome. Okay, that's actually all I've got for you.
You know, I would love to check in
with all of you personally
this week if possible,
although it's my busiest week of the year for work.
So TBD, give me a call, we'll catch up.
Hope everyone's doing well, but that's all I got for ya.
So we're gonna get this uploaded.
Sorry for kind of a scattered show,
a shorter show too, but there's plenty of other fun content
out there you can consume my promise.
For all of us here being Tom Podcasts,
