Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey everyone, Taylor here from the podcast you're just about to listen to. This week's episode is about a series of YouTube music videos. We're only going to be playing small clips from those videos, so if you want the full experience, you may want to watch along from home in a separate YouTube window. If you're not feeling that ambitious today, no worries. Josie and I will describe the videos to you just fine. The videos are also in Spanish, but don't stress, we'll translate the important stuff. With that said, sit back and enjoy Episode Baso. And I'm Josie Mitchell. On this podcast, we
Starting point is 00:01:01 share the stories that live on and in the. Strangin' the familiar? The tragic and the comic? The bitter and the sweet. How's your dorm broski drink up there for you? You know what? Seven percent. Oh, baby, I even noticed that. I went to, so in between, Josie and I are recorded in 74 and 75 back to back. Like, we used to do back in the old days in season one, we used to do back back back. Yeah, it's through throwback. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:01:34 We're doing that because, as we mentioned last episode, we're gonna be doing bittersweet 604. We're going weekly for August. Josie's gonna be visiting Vancouver. Yeah. And so because of that, we're just trying to knock 74 and 75 out in a day so we can kind of get the jump on them.
Starting point is 00:01:48 And in between episodes, I went to the liquor store and I got Black Fly vodka crushes. I got a peach in an orange. They look like they should taste like acts, but they don't. They taste pretty good. I thought you said they should taste like ass, but then I realized you said ax.
Starting point is 00:02:07 As the body sprang. Yeah, the deodorant, yeah. Yeah, and they're sort of branded like, there's a drink on season two of Real House as an orange county called OC Energy that they tried to make happen. Oh my God. This looks like OC Energy.
Starting point is 00:02:21 The OC, which should be out in the pink hammer, promoting this shit. Cool. What do you think was in O.C. Energy? Hair gel, uh, we're hitting all, uh, lots of bad shit. You excited to come to Vancouver, baby? Baby doll, baby girl. Yeah, I'm really excited. There is nothing better than a Vancouver summer.
Starting point is 00:02:43 Long, luscious days, cool green forests, wind in my hair, weed at my fingertips. I'm pretty excited. I'm gonna see some, I'm obviously gonna see Taylor. I'm gonna like party hardy. But there's some other, some other pads I get to see and yeah, just a little like a north of the 49th check-in. I'm excited too because I think BC is like ripe with some bittersweet, some
Starting point is 00:03:12 bittersweet infamy. There's a reason they film Riverdale here and the ex files. Come on. They filmed everything, everything is filmed. Yeah, but I'm talking about like a Malgoa spooky with palpain trees, you know, okay, okay Not like pretending that like in the possession where we're pretending you can drive from Oaken 49th to Brooklyn bridge in a day, but whatever In a few short minutes, yeah, oh dude he crushed that commute and less than an hour He was back home in time to get that divak back in the box Beautiful He crushed that commute and less than an hour he was back home in time to get that divak back in the box. Beautiful. Beautiful. Well, I, uh, actually I didn't, I shouldn't say that, but Mitchell came across this headline
Starting point is 00:03:53 and was immediately like turned to me. You've really outsourced your work on them, infamously, lately. Just people keep delivering shit into your lab. I'm listening to the masses. I'm not outsourcing. I'm listening to the, the B.I. Universe. I'm listening to the message. I'm not outsourcing. I'm listening to the VIA universe. I'm here to the ground.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Yeah, yeah. Giving the people what they want. Good for you. One of us asked to. One of us asked to. The headline that Mitchell saw and immediately turned to me and was like, dude, is from Rolling Stone article June 4th, 2022. And it goes a little something like this.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Alan Cummings missing co-star Kschimp found alive after owner faked his death. Monkey business. Pfft. Pfft. Pfft. Classic monkey business. How do you wear the story?
Starting point is 00:04:39 No, this is fun. Oh my God. Oh my God. I'm like the more that I have researched it in Duggan, I'm like, this might be too heavy for Justin and this. And there might just be too many. The classic question. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:04:52 It's also, I mean, it's not like ripped from the headlines. This is about a year, a year and a bit. It's been sort of like already gently taken out of the headlines and like laid in a scrapbook for this point. And now we're just kind of reminiscing. Yeah, yeah. But it is so backadoodle that it might pop up again. So this might not be the last time we hear of. You're Josie in addition to being our Norwegian Royal correspondent. You are now
Starting point is 00:05:13 our Alan Cummins Chinn correspondent, okay? Okay, I'll add it to my name tag. Well, the business card keeps getting taller, but you can fold it to fit it in your wallet. Yes, yes, yes. So this dear chimpanzee, he is an elderly chimpanzee at the age of 38. Stately. His name is Tonka, T-O-N-K-A, and he met Alan coming in 1997 on the set of not one but two 1997 movies featuring a chimpanzee actor. So they're like Leo and Kate. They go way back. They really are. Yeah. They go way way back. Yeah. Yeah. George the Jungle, of course, chimpanzee. Right. And then this movie that I wasn't as familiar with, buddy. Do you know the movie Buddy?
Starting point is 00:06:06 It sounds familiar, I'm willing to bet Buddy's a champ. Yeah. Well, no, actually Buddy's an ape. So he's not a mean star. Yeah, that's cute. That was good. That was cute. You're good.
Starting point is 00:06:21 You're good. Thank you. So they became very close on set, Tonka and Alan coming. Well, let's let's let Alan come and tell this. During the months we filmed together, baby Tonka and I became good friends playing and grooming each other and generally larking about. Larking about. They were they were they were they were cut in out pulling pranks and and and and painting the town red, going out for beers and whatnot. Yeah doing their nails the whole thing Little Mystic ball bridge hair. Talk about boys. All the heads. Yeah
Starting point is 00:06:51 So if I feel like a few archetypes kind of got blended up together, but that's okay But you know, I think Alan coming might enjoy that. You know, it sounds like you might they you know Another element of how they became so close to was like, Tonka just really liked Alan coming I think Alan coming really liked Tonka and the handlers were like, Alan coming, you know, help us groom Tonka and like Alan was like really into it and like, oh my god, this is so cool and And Tonka would like recognize him and see him and be like, so A workplace bromance A workplace bromance, that's exactly it, yeah
Starting point is 00:07:23 So when Tonka was reported dead, um, and this sex report was made by his private owner, meaning like, he doesn't belong to a zoo. He doesn't belong to a zoo or a foundation. It was a private owner. Her name is Tanya Hadix. So when this news broke from Tanya herself, she claimed that Tanka was dead, Cummings partnered with PETA because they did not believe the news. There was word going round that Tanka was not really dead. And so, Cummings and PETA put out a $2,000 reward for... That's a little poor, but okay. You think it's too much too little.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Too little. Fucking pointy. Oh sorry, sorry. If you were, if you were buddies with this chip, you know what they did, because I just read it wrong, it was 20,000. Now we're to know.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Now we're to know. Then we put in 10, PETA put in 10. Thank you, okay. Okay. This is now a respectable bounty on this this chimp. Thank you Well, and behold when it was 20 then there was news that the chimp was indeed not dead But Tonka was living in a basement and had X's basement in Missouri with a 60 inch TV and celebrating his St. Patrick's Day I have all kinds of questions,
Starting point is 00:08:45 but I'm sure you're gonna answer them, so I'll just let you go. You know what? This, I might not. Okay, fair enough, fair enough. So first of all, didn't know you was Irish, you know, slantya, second of all. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:59 So is the chimp happily retot, why are we, what is the motive for saying that this chimp has died when the chimp has evidently not died? All right, let's take it back Taylor to the beginning. Please, I would love to. Who do we want? That was the rewind. Tonka's original owner was a woman named Connie Casey. Casey and her then husband now ex-husband Mike.
Starting point is 00:09:22 They owned and they operated a chimpanzee talent agency. Yeah, okay. Say no more about it. The original name, yeah, was chim party. Not bad, we could do better. Well, they did rename to the Missouri Primate Foundation. You know what? So I got back.
Starting point is 00:09:40 She's much cleaner. That's what it is. It looks better on the paycheck stuff, doesn't it? Yes. Chip party was this business where they would hire out, rent out young chimps to make appearances at birthday parties for photo shoots. Eventually, they got into the movies.
Starting point is 00:10:02 For, and then that was, that was, ch- Oh, I'm so sorry, Chinema. That was good. Yeah, that was good. That was good. Don't put that on the check. I don't agree, it was good. And I said it.
Starting point is 00:10:17 So Connie Casey, this woman, was essentially like breeding, training, and then like acting as an agent for these animals. And this included Tonka, the chimpanzee. There were some issues however, this is like the late 90s is when Tonka has his kind of like silver screen debut with Buddy and George's jungle, both in 1997. There were of course some issues. In the 90s, there wasn't a lot of regulation that we have now in place when it came to the treatment of animals. And we really wanted to see a lot of animals on screen. Like, Tonka was not the only animal. Yeah, exactly. There was a horrible movie with Matt LeBlanc, and he was like, yeah, exactly. There's a horrible movie with Matt LeBlanc and he was like a baseball
Starting point is 00:11:07 picture. Mitchell just was telling me about this, a baseball picture who befriended a chimpanzee. It's called Ed. So Connie Casey, this woman, had this business and things were not super great. In 2009, a chimp that she had bred and trained and sold, she sold to a couple in Connecticut. This young chimp they purchased for $50,000 when he was just, you know, a little baby like days old. They bought him in 1995, so around, you know, the time. As just like private owners of an exotic pet?
Starting point is 00:11:41 Exactly, yes. This little guy slept with him. He learned how to write a bike. They fed him steak and lobster tails. Why is this fucking chimp eating better than me? Well, he had a little bit of an issue. He was hanging out with a good friend of theirs. When he, when he, uh, he fucking snapped. And- Did he rip her face off? It was their friend who he just went to excuse the phrase,
Starting point is 00:12:12 ape shit. Ape shit. And- Yeah. Tour her nose and the ears and her ears. I remember this. I remember this. That is Tonka's original owner,
Starting point is 00:12:26 was the person who originally owned this guy. God it. So I can, I remember this story very well. Yeah, yeah. So this hits the news. Really big. PETA is like a alarm fucking bell. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:12:42 The rare easy W for PETA, who have a bit of a checkered reputation for their tactics and stuff But everyone can get behind like okay, let's not have chimps and captivity if they're gonna be ripping people's faces off because I don't want my face ripped off by a chip Yeah, no, please and no Casey is not Tonka's owner though because when PETA went after Casey with lawsuits and stuff Tanya had X is the one who steps in and says Casey likes. Yes, there's another woman.
Starting point is 00:13:08 I'll take Tanka off your hands. I'll take one of these chips and I want Tanka. And so she buys Tanka. That easy to get your hands on a chimp these days, huh? Well, especially when Peter is like breathing down your neck and- We gotta offer all these chips, you're right, you're right. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:24 By your sale on all two wants a chimp. They're great Christmas gifts. Yeah. So in 2018, Hattex becomes the legal owner of not only Tonka, but a few other chimps. How diverse is if I hear portfolio? Exactly. PETA does not stop because it's not specifically Casey.
Starting point is 00:13:42 It's that these chimps are in private care at all. So the lawsuits, you know, there's a lot of red tape, a lot of bureaucracy, but they eventually do move over to hadics, to toniah hadics. And when she is mandated by the court to release a certain number of the chimps to ape and primate foundations. Okay, so you're not just on the side of the road, like turn them over. Okay, that makes me feel better. Yeah, to designated sanctuaries. She does so not with all of the chimps that have been, that she's been asked to do.
Starting point is 00:14:21 There's chimps missing. There are some chimps missing. Oh dear, we're dealing quentin chimps. I'm looking at the sheet and I'm looking at the chimps and they don't match. Yeah the numbers are not coming through on this one. So at that point technically under Missouri state law, which is where Tonya Haddock's lives. She's within her rights to own a chimp, as long as she can properly care for those animals. So PETA and other animal rights organizations are very much in support of a federal law,
Starting point is 00:14:55 the PAPTIF Primate Safety Act, which would make it illegal to buy or transport any type of primate across state lines. So this tamps down on the market place of chimps. PETA is coming after Haddox and she apparently has created such a bond with Tonka that she refuses to give him up. Instead, she tells them, I'm so sorry, the Tonka has died. He had congested a part earlier. Wow there you go. Yeah exactly and apparently they had him cremated and her husband was involved with the cremation and
Starting point is 00:15:37 he goes on record as saying that he lit that he lit, I don't want to say it that way. He torch that monkey. He lit that bitch on fire himself. He had the match. He dumped the lighter feud on. He smelled the monkey for. Is that what your trainer said?
Starting point is 00:15:56 Yeah, yeah. He disposed of Tonka's body and he said that he burned the chimp's body, he claims and it's in court evidence, quote, for roughly four hours at 170 degrees. Is that standard chimp burning temperature? Pita comes back and says, well, that is fucking bullshit because for that short amount of time at that low temperature, you can't even like cook a goddamn turkey. Much less incinerate a body. I couldn't even braise this chimp, let alone torch it. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Hattix's husband comes back in another email and says, oh I'm so sorry, that was just a typo. I meant 1,700 degrees. See, the, Josie, it's not just you. It's not just you. Yeah, that's true. It's fairly apparent that this Hattix woman She's not just you. Yeah, that's true. It's fairly apparent that this had ex-woman and by extinction her husband are not telling
Starting point is 00:16:51 the truth. And for some reason, at this particular time, when she is hiding a chimpanzee that the law is after her for, she decides that when a filmmaker named Dwayne Cunningham comes to her asking if he a former Ringling brothers circus clown and an animal sanctuary worker if he could make a documentary about private ownership of exotic animals that he claims is very much in support of the private ownership of exotic animals that he claims is very much in support of the private ownership of exotic animals. Hattix is charmed by Duane Cunningham
Starting point is 00:17:33 and his love for animals and she says, yes, you can come and we, yes, I will be a subject in your documentary. So she's keeping this live from the courts about Tonka being dead or alive. Yeah, she's got Shurdinger's chip going on a bit. Yeah, and yet she has invited a documentary film crew into her house. Dude, it's the same one the real housewives get sent to jail for the frauds.
Starting point is 00:17:59 I think, why did you invite a camera crew into this? Yes, no, exactly, exactly. She claims that the entire camera crew and Dwayne Cunningham knew that Tonka was alive the entire time that they were filming. This is what she claims. Is this supported by anybody else? It is supported by a phone conversation that
Starting point is 00:18:22 is recorded between Cunningham and Haddx. There was word being passed between Haddx and Cunningham that Tonka's vet was giving Haddx advice for euthanization of Tonka. Apparently his congestive heart failure was a thing to be concerned about and this vet said I will make an appointment for you and we will need to put Tonka down. He's 38 years old. Yeah, he was really sad. In this recorded interview,
Starting point is 00:18:55 and let me read a little bit from this, it's a phone interview that is being recorded. Haddock says, yeah, he's supposed to be sending me some volumes and some other stuff over so I could give it to him Meaning Tonka before the vet comes. Oh, okay. This is so Tonka will be relaxed. Sedative, yeah, yeah, yeah, I said it if I then cunning him says in reply. Yeah, maybe we could interview your son and be around then at the same time Let me run it by everybody, but that would work Haddock says reply because that's the end of the legacy be around then at the same time. Let me run it by everybody, but that would work.
Starting point is 00:19:28 Hadex says reply because that's the end of the legacy. Okay. So that's how that kind of supports what she's saying, yeah. Yeah, yeah, except the timeline doesn't match up because she's the one that he was dead long ago. Well, no, it supports it supports what she was saying in terms of the filmmaker being in the know that he was alive. Yes, yes, that is true. But she definitely, definitely has lied in the court of law. Well, yes. You're not monkey business without a couple of monkeys to conduct said business. In reply to any concerns about lying under oath, she replied to the Rolling Stone reporter. Okay, it's gonna be good.
Starting point is 00:20:06 I can tell I know that this is gonna be good. Honey, I've been held in content of court three times. I have paid $50 a day in fines. I've been through the mill. I'm sure that there'll be some jail time in this. Do I care? No, I don't care. It's because it's about that kid.
Starting point is 00:20:24 As long as that kid is safe, I don't care. It's because it's about that kid. As long as that kid is safe, I don't care about nothing out there. Is the kid the chimp? The kid's a chimp. Yeah. He's the kid the chimp. What? What? I just wanted to make sure that we were all on the same sheet of music. You're welcome. I have support it. You know what? We must be willing to stand by our
Starting point is 00:20:47 convictions. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. One of the underlying questions here is like, the court is asking her to consider this chimpanzee's health. And chimpanzees have a very robust social life. Like, they are a social species. They need to be with other chimpanzees for the best of their mental health. Not unlike humans. No, of course. Like, what you're saying that like planting them in front of an LED isn't the way to go? Maybe not. No. No, hiding them in the basement and just taking them out for like St. Paddy's Day parties. Maybe not the best idea. Do you wear green? Apparently he have like a little like a poorly-scloosed or a lesbian and a little like a a poorly-scloosed or a lesbian and had like a little like a poorly-sclover headband. A square-view guy's a good headband. A little shagrass. Yeah, a little shag-ha-ha-da. A daaah.
Starting point is 00:21:29 But see, this is how we get chimps in captivity for acting. That's very cute. Yeah. And when Haddock's questioned about this, you know, like this is ultimately for Tonka's like his own betterment. And a jug has decreed that like this should be like it's under law you were required to do this. She replies, Tonka was Mike Chimp legally.
Starting point is 00:21:53 And even though a judge did not agree with that, I did not agree with her. I felt I had to fake his death to protect him because I didn't feel like we got our fair day in court. If you can't beat the system, you got to go by what you think is the right thing to do. I really agree with this libertarian chip woman. I've got to say, I really do. Like I am completely on board with that logic. You know what? Yes, the judge said that it wasn't my chimp but that's just some bitch in a black dress that I don't know. So I'm going to take my chimp and I'm going to do what we need to do to protect the baby.
Starting point is 00:22:34 Yes, the kid, yeah. Yeah. Well during all these legal back-and-forth hadics for a short time ended up hiring attorney John Pierce, who also represented Kyle Rittenhouse, and several of the alleged January 6th Capitol writers. No, no loads refused come dump is the term I will use in the gay community. Because I think I agree with you in some ways like had x like you know what? Okay, you got to stand up for what you believe in baby and if this is what you believe and go for it But I'm not sure that she was working with all the proper information because apparently I don't see how that could be possible I just simply don't believe it
Starting point is 00:23:22 Because apparently the vet who she was taking Tonka too is not trained in any type of primate health. Mainly domesticated farm animals was his specialty. And when it was finally revealed that Tonka was alive and the proper authorities came in and took him out so that he could be placed in a proper sanctuary space. They had special primate vets take a look at him and through the examination it was determined that even though he was considerably overweight and he needed some dental work done, he had no signs of congestive heart failure. He could probably live for another 20 to 30 years in captivity.
Starting point is 00:24:05 This is great news. It's fantastic. Now Tonka resides at the Save the Chimps sanctuary and Fort Pierce, Florida. I bet they don't even let him watch TV. I think he's outside. He is with other chimpanzees. Pull out living. And Hattix is not too thrilled with it because this place has had some issues with animal wear fatal act violence. Oh shit. Oh shit. Well, that's not good then. This was in 2020 was the last violation that was on record. They claimed that leadership and structure have changed so that it's a whole different situation happening there in Fort Pierce, Florida. But I could probably guess that the situation is better than the basement in Missouri. They had a watch in the game. He could probably watch his shows. He probably watched the WWE. He could probably watch his coordination street. You know? Is this thing all the stories now?
Starting point is 00:25:06 Yeah, oh my gosh, all the talent of Ella's gone. Gotta talk to all the goddamn chimps and he's like, what's going on in Euphoria? I was like in the middle of the season when they got me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:19 Tonka is in his sanctuary. He's living his little primate life. And not only is his story a happy ending, but Alan coming is feeling really great about how everything has gone down. For God of Odile down, the rate. Never forget old Alan. And when he learned that his co-star, Tanka, was safe and sound. Alan coming came out with a statement saying, I feel so emotional about this great news.
Starting point is 00:25:50 When I met Tonka while filming the movie, Buddy, I made a true friend. And I was honored that he thought of me as a fellow chimp. I'm dancing a jig that Pida has rescued Tonka from the woman who locked him away alone in a basement and lied about it. The thought of Tonka being able to wander free and happy at the lush spacious sanctuary for the rest of his life has me singing a happy song.
Starting point is 00:26:16 May we all sing a happy song. Oh, thank you. I didn't know that was the song was being extended to me. I that's now that's you know what? That's very sweet that he Took his obligations as a friend so seriously to this trip legitimately. I think that's very nice You know what Alan coming is fucking pretty rad So it seems he was he was willing to put not just a thousand but ten thousand dollars of his own money on the line Yeah, yeah. When we start this podcast, I think that part of my intention was that I'm just somebody
Starting point is 00:27:08 who kind of like fritters and stalk piles away stories like a little recuensito, right? Yeah, yeah, as we say, I'm so rich. As we say, I'm so rich. Don't look it up. And I had the idea, I think, when I came into this show that I was going to be doing a lot of old favorite stories, as opposed to like, like all the ones that I had the idea, I think, when I came into this show, that I was gonna be doing a lot of old favorite stories, as opposed to like, like all the ones that sort of stockpiled up. And then as the show went on,
Starting point is 00:27:32 I discovered that I actually am much more interested in learning about new things that I don't already know. It's a more exciting prospect for me to kind of research something new. Yeah, totally. But this one is an old favorite that has just haunted me through the years. It's like a similar vibe to Seckskyla, but where that was like a bad ghost from my past that I had to exercise. This one, friendly ghost.
Starting point is 00:28:00 A little Casper. A little Casper, right there. A little round, no threatening jagged edges, no bloodthirsty fangs. Like a boo, a boo from Mario at worst and one of the cute boo's, one of the friendly boo's. Yeah. Tight. I'm surprised that it's taken till 75 to come out. Dude, it was one of those things where I had completely like, I had somehow never thought about this story in the context of this podcast, but the second I did, I thought, oh my god, I have to do that. And then I thought I was gonna make it a minifimus.
Starting point is 00:28:31 And this is one of the rare ones that I was like, I'm actually gonna take what I thought was gonna be a minifimus, and I'm gonna stretch it to make it a full, and I'm really happy I did because there's too much here for a minifimus. Like, I couldn't have done a justice. Yeah. So today I'm going to be discussing. We, we'll share the discussion. Okay. We are going to be discussing a favorite subject from our many episodes of the podcast. Weird art.
Starting point is 00:28:58 Ooh. Yeah, baby. And I employ the phrase weird art because I think the first bad art is too reductive. Yes. Rob's the beholder of their agency, subjective appreciation. I personally often find it incorrect a lot of what people call bad art, I don't think is bad. Turns like outsider art or innocent art speak more about the artist than the art and sometimes the practitioners of weird art aren't outsiders
Starting point is 00:29:26 You could call it me mart, but some of it's quite obscure. You could call it ironic art But while it may be appreciated ironically It's typically meant sincerely and what even is ironic appreciation anyway if you like something don't you just like it? What is it? Sometimes catch works sometimes no so camp camp? Yeah, there's an aspect of camp. There's certainly in this camp abundant in this particular piece of weird art. Kaby, Kaby.
Starting point is 00:29:52 And that's my imperfect turn of phrase. Weird compared to what by whose definition mind, but I mean it very affectionately as an artist who's weird, you know. Welcome to your podcast where your definition works. It's fine. Yeah. I feel specifically like this episode is the most accurate depiction of the sort of like hyper fixated mania part of my personality that partially bore this podcast out.
Starting point is 00:30:19 This is like a real essential part of my soul you're getting today. Just express through this story. This is like a real essential part of my soul you're getting today. Just express through this story. Ooh, alright. There you go. Now I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting.
Starting point is 00:30:31 I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting.
Starting point is 00:30:39 I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. I'm just sitting. remember from our season premiere that in my teens I was a great fan of New Zealand singer Wing but then she went corporate aka went the meme singer root no disrespect chased the bag and I needed some good new weird music to fill the wing shaped hole in my ear drums. You might want to get that checked out.
Starting point is 00:30:59 No I want it there at K-POP and the higher-power soft fit to bless me with a song so captivating with a music video, so intriguing that I would like to spend the remainder of episode 75 of Bitter Sweden for me telling you all about it some 13 years after I threw my pussy out to this song for the first time. May I use that expression? I know it's not your favorite word. I can change it. I think you may. You may. I think you okay.
Starting point is 00:31:29 I think there's something I haven't heard to throw. To throw one's pussy is it changes. To round it around like a skeleton climbing out of a coffin to do the monster mass. Truly. What have you pussy been doing? around like a skeleton climbing out of a coffin to do the monster mass. Truly. What have you been doing? Like, let me tell you. Let me just pop it around. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Let me tell you, let's take a meandering path through the Andes and become better acquainted with some of the most infamous Latin American YouTube singers of the late 2000s and early 2010s. Whoa, okay. Let's start with a man named Delphine Quixpe. A member of the Ketcho Indigenous group, Delphine is born in 1977 in San Antonio de Encalado, a small enclave of Guamote, a quiet agricultural town in the Chimborazo province of Ecuador. Okay, nice. Delphine is literally Spanish for dolphin, which is a lot of fun, but it's not what his name means. Coincidence. Coincidence slash double entange. He is the youngest of four boys, so his parents named him Elvelphine, the one in the end.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Oh, okay, okay. Wow, they had to be pretty confident with that one. No, that's what I thought. I was like, you got to be committed to a lot of abortions if you're going to be making claims like that. Sorry. Or no sex, yeah. Well, you know what, we took different approaches there, but we're still friends.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Anyway. Says Delphine, quote, my parents chose this beautiful name and I enjoy it every day. Oh, yeah, I to enjoy my name every day. Delphine marries a woman named Rosario, has two sons Alex and Luis, the latter of whom unfortunately passed away.
Starting point is 00:33:18 I've had about 16 in 2018, which is quite so much. I'll be. My goodness. Delphine grows up with an affinity for music. He plays the Ronda Dor, the Kenna, the Jarranga, the guitar, the flute, and the piano. Sort of like an instrumental polyg lot.
Starting point is 00:33:34 He teaches the traditional instruments to the children of his community, starting in 1990s, 70s and member of various bands until he decides to pursue a solo career in a self-created musical genre. He describes as Endian Technofolklore. Okay, Endian is in the end. Endian, yeah, sorry.
Starting point is 00:33:51 Endian Technofolklore. So, yeah, of the Endi's Mountain range, which runs through Ecuador, Peru, much of that side of South America. The Endi's runs Argentina. She's like, give me folk and give me techno. That's all I've ever wanted. Well, I've got Delphine for you. He also adopts his new stage name, Delphine-Astelphine, or Delphine until the end, or Dolphin until
Starting point is 00:34:13 the end. I want to know how you want to read it. I want it all at the same time. In 2001, he releases his first album El Far Faraon del Ritmo, which is the Pharaoh of the rhythm. Yeah baby. Great title. This is the first of many consistent releases, but he faces barriers to getting local radio play, so he turns to that most democratic of Democratic of Star Makers YouTube. And on December 18th, 2006, this is early YouTube mind. Right. Yeah. Was this one YouTube would only let you do a certain amount of time on there too?
Starting point is 00:34:54 Yeah, oh yeah. For that. Yeah. Early, early days of YouTube, one of Delphine's music videos goes mega viral right at the irony peak of the internet culture. Josie, I present to you Doris Gamelas. Doris Gamelas, it does mean twin towers.
Starting point is 00:35:13 Twin towers, twin towers, enjoy. El martes 11 de septiembre de 2001, haciendo las 8 y 46 de la mañana, Estados Unidos sufrió la mayor ofensiva de su historia que culminó con la destrucción de las torres que me las ennuega yo. No puede ser, no! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Observations!
Starting point is 00:36:02 A lot of different tones going on there! Musically, emotionally, yeah, yeah, yeah. What do you think? You know, it's a great song. So in very brief, the music video starts with an announcement that on September 11th, 2001, the United States of America suffered its worst-ever terrorist attack. And yeah, from there the song plays out, it's a song of him losing his girlfriend in the twin towers and speaking to her over the phone in those last moments. What does Delphine look like? What is his
Starting point is 00:36:41 vibe? So how do we start? We start with him watching the TV. Yeah, yeah, he's in like a living room kind of space sitting on the couch. It's obviously staged because like the TV's in a corner but he's not, he's facing us and not the TV, but whatever. And he's devastated, hands to his face, my God. And he says, no, it can yell to the bad, no!
Starting point is 00:37:08 And that of course translates to, it can't be no! Then we kind of bust down into like a pretty funky beat. I got it like a, da, black and white suit that he has. It's got his name, Delphine written down his leg. Yeah, we're gonna kind of get into like the importance of performance outfits in and D in music. These were particularly these outfits
Starting point is 00:37:38 that Delphine wears are designed by a designer in Guamolta named Bolivar, Shagniye, and he has like 50 of them. This one's his favorite. He likes the white one the best, but apparently he's got like 50 of these guys. Yeah. So he says.
Starting point is 00:37:51 And he's superimposed on footage of the Twin Towers falling and people reacting to it in New York. To the Twin Towers. Exploding, like fucking exploding. Yes, yes. And then as the Twin T towers are exploding at one point, some cell phone numbers come up if you want to get in touch with Delfine
Starting point is 00:38:11 and that's because he was trying to get work off this guy. So we put up, you know, dun dun dun dun, exploding tower, call me and I'll do your party. Yeah, I mean, I would have hired him if I was working entertainment at that 9-11 themed bar. The fourth bar, yes. Absolutely. Who better than Tofi? Honestly. And that kind of synopsis that we're in this genre that again we've kind of played around in a bit of overly earnest 9-11
Starting point is 00:38:41 tribute fan art kind of 9-11 fan art a little bit. Yeah. So how did Doris Chamelas come to be? Delphine whom I'm not certain has ever been to New York. Okay, okay. Those are few different versions. Uh-huh. And it's very funny to me to watch this story evolve, because you can kind of go down a rabbit a whole of different interviews
Starting point is 00:39:02 and he says like kind of something slightly different in all of them. So, at first he says his girlfriend died in 9-11. Oh, so this, yeah, yeah, he makes the story in the song, seem as though it's real. You sound skeptical. I... Well, the first thing you said was he's never been to New York, so... Yeah, well, it was a long distance.
Starting point is 00:39:24 So, he talks this guy, like local, like they do some interview and he says, oh yeah, that was my girlfriend, she died in 11. Then it was about something that happened to a friend of his. Then he said he had a girlfriend who left him and the pain was like, like she had died in 9-11. You know, metaphor. Yes, that's how I rank my breakups.
Starting point is 00:39:45 How does this, how does it compare to the tragedy of 9-11? How does this compare to getting a phone call from inside between hours? Then he said it was a song called Del Fiencito that he'd re-edited and he said it was a song called when I went to Guayaki, that he edited to be about the World Trade Center either way. The video made for $5,000, up thousands, then millions, of views, parodies, tributes, and plenty of polarized commentary to quote the news outlet El Unibirso, divided between expressions of contempt and racist insults and evaluations of velveteen as a happy bulwark of unintentional comedy and a counterculture icon.
Starting point is 00:40:19 Okay, yeah. Says one blogger, this is the absolute worst tribute to the victims of the attack on the twin towers. It's pathetic from top to bottom this sucks on so many levels that it's impossible to believe that it's for real Says another where can I download this hit please its life or death this guy deserves a Grammy. I want to see him on MTV So polarized reception. Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay both ends of the scale and reception. Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay. Both hands of the scale. And Delphine, for his part, is unfazed by the critics. He says, my music is a universal language. I don't care about bad reviews. I have no intention of harming any nation. I'll always be author and composer, whether people like it or not.
Starting point is 00:40:56 Okay. Can't stop me. Won't stop me. Yeah, I'll always get up. Torres Chimillas becomes particularly big in Chile where a petition for him to perform at the prestigious sounding. I think it's like a fancy music festival. The Vigne del Mar music festival. They want him to perform there. This petition gets 5,000 signatures. He doesn't perform there but he does get invited to Santiago and Valparaiso, which we visited in episode 52 of the podcast, The Divine Fire. Yes. Uh-huh. He appears on a local talk show called A Siso Moss, where he performs earnestly to only slight mockery and does his signature dance.
Starting point is 00:41:31 El Pasito de the Lofin, which is sorta like a... Let's see. You have to describe the step while I do it. It's just like a... Just like a little shuffle guy. Yeah. Fasten up a Sito de the Lofin. Just like a little shuffle guy. Yeah. Fasted up a seat to go to the o-fine.
Starting point is 00:41:47 As your knees go up, your hands and your shoulders kind of follow the motion of your knees, it goes up. On both sides. Pulling a little invisible string on your knee. Yeah. Lovely. A great sitting move. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:42:00 And well, I'll sit here. And a seat to go to the o-fine. On the back too. I tried to chair. I was on a chair, actually. I was on a chair. I'm actually fell and I had to just like watch you fall No, you imagine that I'll be fine. I still got to figure out how to call 911 from here in case something happens to you We have talked about that. Haven't we? Fuck we're so I'm a weirdo. I'm sorry about me. I
Starting point is 00:42:22 Think it was me who brought it up and it's really back up. Well I'm sorry about this cool fucking thing that we're doing here. From there, Delfine rides his YouTube success to concerts and appearances, collaborations he creates for the songs and covers, including an original composition in honor of the 33 Chilean minors who were trapped in Copiapón in 2010 called Do Do Ombre Estes Un Minero parentheses every man is a miner. You remember the miners? I remember the 33, yeah. They were big. That was big news. He showed them all over my name in this song.
Starting point is 00:42:55 But none of these is the song that we're here to discuss. We don't have enough wisdom to unlock a bad melody yet in order to properly care. Wait, Taurus Chamemeless is preamble. No, Tores Kimmeless is back. Oh, okay. Okay. So in order to truly ascend, we must first travel to the neighboring nation of Peru and become acquainted with the next player in our saga.
Starting point is 00:43:21 Her name is her Christian name, as I like to call it, is Juanjo de Bustos Aguite, but she is better known by her stage name, Latigresa de L'Oriente. The Tigres of the Orient? In this case, Oriente means east, and it's specifically referring to the Peruvian Amazon, the Eastern Amazon. Wikipedia puts her birth in 1945, which would put her in her 50s at the beginning of our story in 77 in the current day, 2023, which roughly tracks with the age I'd put her at, when asked her own age,
Starting point is 00:43:55 who these refuses to confirm or deny any specifics, so only that the character of Lati Grisse was born in 2002, and so by my own count, she's finally all loved to drink in the United States this year Felicitatio Ne. Mmm, that's a good one. That is a good one. By her own account, Tigresa, as a caller, grows up in a hamlet called Constantia in the isolated Llorero region of the Peruvian Amazon where she has big dreams of becoming a singer. Her parents discourage her not realistic. She throws herself into
Starting point is 00:44:25 a marriage in order to get some independence, ends up doing the opposite. Classic story. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's tough. She ends up a makeup artist and a hairdresser with two daughters working out of her home in Santa Catalina, La Victoria, Lima, Peru. Okay. She gets up the courage to pursue her dream of performing. She starts with a group of other friends as less the gris as the Lordiente before going solo. She records a single called Nuevo a manacid, which means a new sunrise for very little money. It's not beat song, but how there's always a chance
Starting point is 00:44:55 to correct your mistakes. No, the sun will always rise. The sun will always rise tomorrow, exactly. You get it exactly. Prison in Obama. Yeah, as Obama and Jersey Mitchell have famously said this time of her ice tour. And Annie too. Annie was on that shit as well. We make a great team.
Starting point is 00:45:14 The three, the Holy Trinity, Josie Barack Obama and Annie of the musical. Okay. An unknown producer offers to put the video together for D'Gresa, she's clean, but what is pitched to her as a jungle shoot ends up having to take place at a local zoo due to budgetary constraints. Oh. Josie here is the next video in our lineup. Here is La D'Gresa del Oriente with Nuevo Amanacer, New Sunrise. Some wonderful editing including some swipes and some spirals.
Starting point is 00:46:26 Swipes, swipes, we're gonna learn how to text, dance, and all around the screens. These two coming in from this side, these two going out from that side. Yeah, yeah, one swipe that like brings the ladies butt together, I think is what I mean. Yeah, while she's shimmying around, like a nice butt shaken around.
Starting point is 00:46:43 Yeah, so a lot of leopard print. There's three dancers. There's like two or three dancers and Degresa herself who's an older woman in leopard print with girly red hair. Great figure. I don't know if she did in that. She has a signature move which is she comes out with her claws and she goes, wow! Did she do one of those?
Starting point is 00:46:59 Yeah, she did. She was like in the leaves but there was like a big leaf right in front of her so you couldn't like see her face. Yeah, it does look like it was shot at a zoo. Oh, definitely, especially with that bystander in a bright red shirt running behind the opening scene where she's dancing. And then the scene's dancing in what's apparently a zoo or inter spliced with her sitting at the the bow. Yeah, the bow of the bow. Singing the song, but she's like just just deculating the lyrics in like this very not-a-factory way. Like they're not- Very broad hands in our movements. Yes, it's like I memorized these just shortly before, and the exits are back there and two decides and-
Starting point is 00:47:42 And we haven't like quite caught the right time on the lighting in the robot either. It's a little, like she's a little bit backlit so the sky is really bright and she's quite dark. Like like, and she's in the shadow. You can't quite make her out. We have some good solid dance moves and good dancers, one of them, a young man
Starting point is 00:48:03 with like a little feather garter and like a strong man, one Z thing, really shaking it. I feel like a lot of times when there's space to fill in these music videos, there's like, let's just get like a nice crowd shot of the community members you're having to be in nearby. Here's like someone's uncle who said, let's come in be in a music video. So, or like some little kids will just be dancing. It's like a good vibe. It looks like everyone's having a lot of fun. Yeah good vibe. Good vibe. Good vibe but sort of similar to the Delphine
Starting point is 00:48:30 situation. It ends up getting poked fun at a bit. Tegres isn't stoked on the video. She wishes the production value were higher but it is what it is. She likes the song. She likes the message. Yeah. The video ends up getting posted to YouTube without Tegres's go ahead and before she knows it, she's getting calls from all across the world. She says, I was not prepared for the success that my song had on YouTube. I believe that it successes due the message I give in its melody. If Belphine is dabbling in a genre of his own invention and the in-techno folklore, Tegresa is working more well-known genres, including the Peruvian genre of jungle Gumbia, which is faster and less musically complex than Cumbia
Starting point is 00:49:05 from the nation's coastal regions. Oh, interesting. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. More like a rhythm. Like a little steady-ness. Like a little steady-ness.
Starting point is 00:49:14 Dada-dada-dada-dada-dada-dada-dada-dada-dada-dada. You know? Like that. Yeah. Degresa's video reaches 11 million views, and then the person who posted it attempts to extort her for money in order to keep it up so she can keep the view count. She doesn't break the poster takes it down. Oh. For a lot of the videos we talk about, you're gonna see that like, sometimes the view count doesn't match the
Starting point is 00:49:32 virality in proposing. A lot of them have gone up and been taken down a few times kind of it. Oh, okay, okay, that's good to know, yeah. Degresa posts her own version of it. She gets a record deal with Warner Bros. Mexico off her virality, but that goes, no, it doesn't work. Don't get to your it so she yeah fuck hope so she just keeps grinding out further ex-seat those keeping the dream alive good for her I mean do it for why you love it do it for the love I agree do it for the love of the game totally and the creative expression in the and the the homosexuals who throw money at you in the night love, Degresa, I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm Wendy Sulca, aka Lapikinya Wendy.
Starting point is 00:50:29 Alright, little Wendy, let's get her going. Little Wendy. Born in 1996, Wendy is a singer of Huai No Music, a mixture of rural folk and urban dance music, popular amongst the Ketroa and other andy and cultures. So much so so there's a specific dance that accompanies whino music and it's so ingrained in Ketroa culture that the Ketroa have a specific verb, whinakui, which means to invite a woman to dance a whino by offering your arm to her. Oh. And by now you've figured out that we're moving to word-of-music video, so let's just jump to it. I'm ready. My computer might not be, but I am.
Starting point is 00:51:09 So here's Lapequenja Wendy. We're her hit Lapequenja. That's that? Like tit? Oh yeah, this is the teddy. Love it, kids, you're windy! Then the end, then I'll be You get out the water, be fit, be fit Then the end, then I'll be This is a pro breastfeeding video. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:06 La bequilla windy. Don't dance la beque o toaños de la. Don't say I never take you anywhere nice. Taylor, I think you need to describe to our listeners how much we do smoke. Constantly. Constantly. All the time. I'm always high.
Starting point is 00:52:35 Any house. And here's why. Look. That shit was tight. I'm not hearing otherwise. You saw me. I love me some love again, you Andy. I know you do.
Starting point is 00:52:44 I know. I know. I know. I'm not hearing otherwise. You saw me. I love me some lovey-gain-you-wendy. I know you do. I do. Lepa Gain-you-wendy, she appears in kind of various outfits and locales. Well, I guess it's all the same dress, is it? In this video, she's wearing her little like burgundy number with the little vast in the skirt. Yeah kind of a big poof short dress. Yeah. I think she's standing in front of three young mothers who are breast-freezing their their little babies and toddlers and then so that's one look how and then
Starting point is 00:53:16 the other is she's in front of a band which includes a beautiful harp. Yeah. That's standing in front of a pool, a community pool. And then the third locale is in a pasture area, and then throwing a few shots of babies, breastfeeding, and then some piglets feeding on udders of a cow. Or the pigs of a cow. They have a cow, yeah. There was a cow, feet suckling, and there were piglets suckling. They were cows and piglets.
Starting point is 00:53:47 And then, so let me hit you with some of these lyrics. Yes. Cada vez que yo veo a mi mamita, me está provocando con su tenteita, which is every time I see my mommy, she provokes me with her titty. So when, who, who, who, as the announcer, will loudly let you know,
Starting point is 00:54:06 is Ayrton. Oh, Sean, you're so damn good. Oh, Sean, you're so damn good. She's got a height, man, and we love him. Oh, we do. He cuts in and out and just like gasses her up. Yes. And meanwhile Wendy's all eight years old,
Starting point is 00:54:20 singing about how she can't get enough of her mom's titty. She's surrounded by ladies' breastfeeding their kids. Yeah, yeah. And just for them. Fuck yeah. Oh totally, no no no. For like the first half I was like this is just a pro breastfeeding song sung by an eight year old which is kind of an awkward age, but you know what?
Starting point is 00:54:38 Let's go. It's fine. An eight year old with what I would term as like very flirtatious camera. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Like she's singing to the camera as if very flirtatious camera. Oh yeah, oh, oh, oh. Like, she's singing to the camera as if it's the titty. But then I think about like two thirds of the way through, there's like this small musical break in which it features her band of all men chasing a woman
Starting point is 00:54:59 based on like on the side, because they like make gestures that her tits are big and they're like running after her, including the young boy. And then the hype because they like make gestures that her tits are big and they're like running after her You including the young boy and then the height man's like all you teenagers in 28 year olds chuck your Motherfucking hands up. I see you out there. You like the tt tt missing out. Oh, what a ride, dude. What a cultural ride on that. Did you ever watch that music video? That YouTube video, it was like a documentary. I think I brought it up before, but it was like a 13 year old
Starting point is 00:55:40 describing the taste of her mother's breast milk because she was still breastfeeding. No. She's on a swing set and she's like, it tastes like mangoes. It's really cute. Is it? Well, I don't know. You seem to be going down with the quita. That's the only thing I want to say.
Starting point is 00:55:58 I want to be your third child. Okay. With a love like mangoes. little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl.
Starting point is 00:56:16 With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. With a little girl. Anders first with very child like shots of her in her pink bedroom surrounded by these fluffy toys and at one point She's staring really mournfully at a photo of a man with a heart. Yeah, like a framed photo of a man with a harp and she's looking at it like Like the way to the world is on her shoulders. Yeah, beautiful heart. Perhaps the depressingly named first album that this song is included on Papito porque me de chaste Daddy, why did you leave me?
Starting point is 00:56:48 Shed some light on why she is staring at that photo. La Taitita is one of the biggest hits from this album. The other biggest is Cervesa, Cervesa, in which Wendy sings about how she wants to get wasted in a pub because of the left turn. She's also been working hard in the mines. Ah, con ocho anjosté edad. Sí, ocho anjosté edad, un maravilla de folklore. Both videos currently sit at between 20 and 30 million views on YouTube.
Starting point is 00:57:16 Is this should? The juxtaposition of this little girl seems very melodramatic songs about occasionally adult subjects. Mm-hmm, detitas. Detitas. Well, it's weird becauseramatic songs about occasionally adult subjects. Dithithas. Dithithas. Well it's weird because it's not an adult so she's too old to be singing about it but also there's this kind of knowing sexual tone to the entire way it's presented. It's an ad fuck.
Starting point is 00:57:34 Ah yeah, it really is truly. She captures hearts and minds and like Delphine and Tigresa, she goes viral in a very kind of polarized way. She says one commenter. Viva el Perú, si cantando sobre te tita si serviste una niñita, puede llegar a la fama internacional, es posible cualquier cosa, which means long live Peru if a little girl can get internationally famous singing about titties and beer, anything is possible. The sun will always rise. The sun once again, the sun will rise.
Starting point is 00:58:05 As Annie Obama and Josie once would have, you know. Wendy is 14. She's the subject of a 10-minute documentary for Vice. Oh. Wherein, it is revealed she's living in extreme poverty in a house with no running water. Wendy says a lot that Dita was written by her mother, Lady Aki Spay, when she was a baby, because she was like kind of just imagining what her baby was thinking. She was probably going to vote for my titty. And said, Vesa, said, Vesa was written, because Beers
Starting point is 00:58:30 is simply what artists sing about, getting drunk, forgetting. OK. OK. OK. The music videos were made by a friend of the family who was a musician for Sonia Morales, and he is the one who posted them to YouTube. Wendy shows us through her dope ass collection of stage outfits that I personally
Starting point is 00:58:48 covet adorned an embellished and very fancy. They cost about a thousand bucks US a pop. So much of the family's budget will have gone to support it. Like some music here in this way. Yeah. Her favorite is a pink Barbie dress of her own designs. Pink and it's got Barbies kind of inset all around. Like images.
Starting point is 00:59:07 Oh my gosh. Like I would call, I don't even know, like plastic kind of images of Barbies inset on fabric. Really, really cool. Okay, almost like decals, but 2D. Yeah, 2D decals. That's exactly, that's a great way to put it. Okay. And she's working in collaboration with an artist named Francisco Haredette of Arte Dorado.
Starting point is 00:59:24 And apparently this is the name in wine ojrasas. And if you want to be a wine o queen, you got to have a nice wine ojras. Okay. They take about a month to make. Yeah. They're four figures. They're between like a thousand and thirty five hundred kind of box. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:59:39 Per piece. Handmade. Hand embroidered. Brilliant. Colorful. Blingy. Embroidered. Bejeweled, golden, red, scarlet, green, white, every beautiful color of the rainbow. They all kind of have that silhouette where it's like
Starting point is 00:59:52 a tighter and more rigid top and then it flares out until like a little bit of a bubble skirt at the bottom and the skirt is just decked out in whatever, you know? Yeah, and heavy embroidery too, like nearly every inch of those things is embroidered. Yeah. Heavy embroidery hand painted with personalized messages, personalized images, no to a like, totally handcrafted.
Starting point is 01:00:13 The mini documentary, The Vice One, the one about Wendy, it also explains that Wendy's father, Franklin Suica, was a musician in his own, right? We saw him with the harp. Okay. He died when Wendy was very young. The whole community attended the funeral. We get a very sweet, very sad scene of Wendy and her mother,
Starting point is 01:00:32 Lydia crying together about how much they miss him. Wendy starts crying and then Lydia starts crying, watching Wendy cry. It's very sad, it's very sweet. Oh. And then the short ends with Wendy performing at a local festival, where she sings La Tertita at 14 years old with all the pizzazz you'd expect of a veteran performer it's so convincing it's like she just took her mouth off the titty right before the show
Starting point is 01:00:56 good for her look at that keep it alive so there we have it we have Wendy sulca aka lap de Kenya Wendy a scrappy child trying to achieve the dreams of a musical family and work our way out of poverty. Juli Bustos, aka Latigresa de la Oriente, a stylist who seized her dream and met a morphos into her jungle cat alter ego. And Delfink Isvhe, aka Delfina Stelfink, the humble face of Ecuadorian pop music and a 9-11 survivor-ish. Techno-folk. Techno-folk-loric hero. Mm-hmm. What would happen if these three forces collided and collaborated for a cause?
Starting point is 01:01:40 Oh my gosh, Taylor, I think you're about to tell me. The time is finally come. With a lot of affection for all Latin American children. A song by Del Finas Del Fin, The Tigressa Del Oriente, And La Pequenio Wendy, A Little Song called Entustieras Bailaré. Which means in your lands.
Starting point is 01:02:04 In your lands, no. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer.
Starting point is 01:02:12 Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un gran placer. Me da un placer.
Starting point is 01:02:20 Me da un placer.
Starting point is 01:03:24 Vamos, vamos, vamos, vamos, ayate a vizarel Yo te quiero conocer, gracias vida a mí, a enseñarme a esténgar A ella y que bonita esténgar, el que du salen I will sing in the world, I will dance Oh, I love you, I want to sing I will love you I will love you And now, the Pasito from me! Is it a tribute to Israel?
Starting point is 01:03:58 Yes Wow Wow! I see play, stay so far, please. Okay, okay, okay, okay. Okay, okay, okay, okay. Okay, okay. Observations. Uh. Does anything stand out as strange? Okay, a few things, a few things.
Starting point is 01:04:38 Okay, okay. I'll start with the fact that they all seem to be in the locales of the original videos that they shot. Yes, that is a very good observation. In both the field and then, I guess, Guamote, where Delphine is from, which by the way, something we didn't mention during Doris Chamelis, anything that wasn't on a green screen was randomly just him and Ecuador, which didn't have much to do anyway. Like, it didn't have much to do with the plot of the thing, but yes. Right, yeah, true. Yeah, so there was that and then some little like characters
Starting point is 01:05:07 inter spliced like Bikanya Wendy was actually made Bikanya and put on like the gun wall of the boat in which Latika Raya was sitting. So some interaction in the you know in the editing suite and the song seems to be a tribute to Israel. Okay. Because when you said that maybe like, well, I realize now how you said it out. But when you said that it was for a good cause, I was thinking like maybe cleft palettes or like...
Starting point is 01:05:39 That's so cheesy. Where did that come from? Where did Israel come from though? So honestly But I just like I don't imagine Israel like the state of is like I really wish we had some more Latin American support Wow, maybe they hey, hey Somebody clearly somebody thought so I said that I said I saidino america aserkate a latino america israel Can you significa aserkate a serkate a serkate draw yourself closer?
Starting point is 01:06:13 Okay, aserkas. Serkas. Let's come together. Yes. Okay. Okay. Okay. Come together for Israel Okay. Yes. Yes. I forget that I sometimes forget that like I assume that everybody speaks the same language as I speak because in my mind I have no talents so if I can do something everybody can do, I know it's very sad, but as her cuté a latino america is the rire. Okay, so as you might expect from the title, entustiérás bailare, in your lands I will dance, it is a song where delfín and digresa and Wendy sing with great gusto about how excited they are to I guess go to Israel someday and dance in the streets and experience the beautiful hospitality of this wonderful nation. This video starts similarly to Delphine's
Starting point is 01:06:59 video for Doris Chimillas except for this time, he is watching people in various men on the street in her views in Latin America, express their concerns that Israel was a violent and sad nation. And of course, he screams to the heavens, no poe de ser, no, and the big catchy chorus is Israel Israel, Gabonito Israel, which is Israel. Israel, how pretty Israel is. Yeah, dude. So there's a few things there. You also, Kenai, if you noticed, two things.
Starting point is 01:07:38 One, Wendy is wearing the Barbie dress. It looks great. She's much older. She's a little taller. Yeah, she's like a teen at this point. This is this is about the age that she was during the vice documentary. A little bit older. She's she's aged a bit since then. Yeah, great. And the second thing was that the green I think there must be some green parts of the dress because they got caught in the green screen. And so and so what
Starting point is 01:07:59 is on the so let's talk about the green screen. As you say, there's the location components where they're all in there, like, kind of, original locations. Wendy's on the lawn of harm. Tegan says out in the robot, they're all doing the thing. Yeah, out the zoo. It's at the zoo, because it's definitely the... It's at the fucking zoo. Chimpanzee enclosure.
Starting point is 01:08:18 There's like a monkey playing behind her at one point, and like the track kind of stutters, and the monkey stutters, too. It is. it is sick. It's fucking everything that's right with the world. But yeah, what was it? I got lost in the sauce. The green screens are, they seem to be kind of like scenes from the streets of Jerusalem or from Tel Aviv.
Starting point is 01:08:41 Yeah. People dancing, the food stalls, the like the streets, a lot of like kind of just like crowd shots not not described crowd shots at one point There's like a scuba divers, I think At the beginning when they're all doing their intro Let's let's super estres than the country popular That part trans like that bit right por un mensaje de amor igualdad, that part. Translate that bit. Right, the superstars of pot music together for a message of love and equality.
Starting point is 01:09:12 That's beautiful. And so it is. Yeah, yeah. There's no snow in Africa, and we love Israel. Yes, que bonito es Israel,. So that's our big chorus. There is, yes. Yes, yes, yes. Gavu-Nito is seasoned. Yes, yes, yes.
Starting point is 01:09:29 And it's very catchy. It gets stuck right in the first time you've heard it, you're like, yeah, bitch. Yeah. And then yeah, a lot of it just isn't Israel though. A lot of it is just footage of them at home. Right, pretty stuck. Stock it makes it Israel.
Starting point is 01:09:43 And then, yeah, just them. Not even stock, because I feel like stock it makes it Israel and then yeah just them not even stock because I feel like stock implies that it like I think a stock footage of Israel would be nicer than this yeah I'd be like more beaches and yeah it's not particularly nice footage of it's it's not terrible but it's like a lot of kind of context-free crowd shots weird weird stuff. Like you say, like a food food stalls. Yeah, you would want it to match, you know, the quality and intention of the original Latin American footage though, too, you know, the llama farm,
Starting point is 01:10:15 the zoo, the open pastures, yeah, yeah. Who's you? You say you would want it, what does that mean? So what I'm getting at is, who do you think made this and why? I think it was probably one of their producers who was like you all are famous. Let's do I don't I'm really confounded that it's a pro is real video. I deliberately obscured that information. I felt it would make a good review. So I really I this is a hard one for me I really
Starting point is 01:10:51 I finally Yeah, no you stop me every episode, but like it is true. I am very stoned on this one Not high enough. That's what that means you didn't get stoned enough because you would have you be able to survive that shit High enough that's what that means you didn't get stoned enough because you would have you'd be able to survive that shit Yeah, it was the monkeys in the zoo was at it. They're mastermining all of this and sort of in front of also in front of the green Screen you can kind of see the outline of the green screen around the gnesa's hair It's kitschy right it's very campy. So this gets millions of views right away. I was one of them I had this shit on bump. I have this shit on bump I have this shit on bump. I am obsessed with this. I know every shot of this music video
Starting point is 01:11:33 I know every lyric of this song But I somehow didn't know the backstory behind it until I did the research for this. Oh my goodness, okay My assumption was like Israeli tourism board trying to like do the... The birthright trip? Yeah. Yeah, like early early before Wendy's could call you a faggot on Twitter. You know what I mean? This was sort of that...
Starting point is 01:11:58 Well, let's call it what it is. This was sort of like I thought like maybe proto meme marketing people who are really tapped into like I don't know. I don't know what I thought it was or like I And like why is real? Yeah, yeah, and I'll get this out of the way Delphine, Wendy, D'Greza, none of them have been to Israel I'm also just like you had said that the king of windy like lives in poverty like there's no water in her domicile, and she's like throwing her weight for Israel. Like I just...
Starting point is 01:12:30 Yeah, I don't know if you caught this one. At one point she yells up to her dead dad, she says, I papito si tan solo pudiera, ver este lugar, este gente, esta sabora, which is like, oh daddy, if you could only see this place,
Starting point is 01:12:44 these people, these flavors. See, I was reading that as like dear Lord and talking about it. That was her call and I think calling up to like Franklin Suarez. I think you're right, yeah. Because when she goes ipapito in her song, she's usually talking to her dad. And like, yeah. This is an interesting point you make. You're like, they're all in their original locations, huh? All of their kind of ticks, beloved traits, appearance from their original videos has been very lovingly preserved. Yes, outfits for Delphine and Lactagreza,
Starting point is 01:13:17 they're wearing the same stuff. I am, I am actually, very faithful to the New Year's. Ficking your Wendy has grown a little bit. and so she's like eight years ago. Yes My theory the the Israeli tourism board theory does not hold water Unfortunately is not a little bit of grill marketing to capture that American audience. I That does not surprise me. I Thought it was decent. So what the beautiful beauty?
Starting point is 01:13:42 I have not heard a word from you on what you think this is so whatever. I thought it was decent. So what the f- I have not heard a word from you on what you think this is. So whatever. I thought it was the monkey's pulling strings. I'll take it. So, says Erian Karmin writing for Tablet magazine in 2010. Some commenters saw a Zionist conspiracy when they weren't expressing disdain for the video's bad taste. But could the Israeli government or any sympathetic organization have masterminded something so anarchic, brazenly neglecting to tout Israel's holy sites and instead pitching the asrieli mall highway bridge. So what the fuck is happening?
Starting point is 01:14:18 What the fuck is happening? I think it's... Listen, pedestrian infrastructure is important. Yeah. So the answer says Carmen lies with a group of Argentine Jewish creatives Working out of Madrid Buenos Aires and New York the song was dreamed up and written by Gaston Claimon and Sebastian Mueller or Mueller MUL L.I.R. Who were working in advertising in Argentina says Claimon. It's not a song in favor of Israel. It's a song against prejudice.
Starting point is 01:14:47 Okay. So yeah, at least I am. Hey, people need those easy songs. I am. Yeah, I heard the anti-pregionists in there. Yes, they insist that there is no image under the piece other than attempting to dispel negative stereotypes
Starting point is 01:15:02 and promote intercultural unity. In fact, of the many people involved in the creation of the song, only one had ever been to Israel. Is that something that you want to, like, tout? Like, yeah. I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I actually been there so yeah listen we're totally we're as ignorant as you we don't even know what we're talking about which is that is usually my it's sold it to me I was like okay so this isn't propaganda this is just some misguided enthusiasm yeah yeah okay yeah Miller and Clayman were mutually obsessed with Wendy Degresa and
Starting point is 01:15:43 the Elfine I'll pull a little bit from the well-written carbon article here. One sees them and is seduced, claimant said, speaking in Spanish. These are things upon which you cannot force reason, because then surely you will find defects, but the truth is you cannot stop watching them. And then Mueller, who studied film at Tel Aviv University, he comes in in Hebrew. I feel they are doing something new that relies on authenticity. They haven't learned the rules
Starting point is 01:16:10 of how to communicate with images. It's a kind of dogma without consciousness. That felt the same way. Yeah. I should explain the face I made. It was kind of like, explain the face you made. That's kind of insulting to them to say that.
Starting point is 01:16:23 A little bit condescending. A little bit condescending a little bit Consescending yes, but I also like I worry that I haven't learned to talk about my own attraction to this kind of genre of Of art without sounding condescending. I don't think I would say something like that or I would try not to but like also This is like late like we're 15 years ago. We weren't we just got empathy like six months back so It's a fresh value. It's brand new. We're still figuring it out. Right out of the shrink wrap.
Starting point is 01:16:50 Exactly. We had to use the scissors to cut. It was, you know, that hard plastic, but the sharp edge is terrible. Ouch. Mueller conceded that some of the singer's fan base was ironic or mocking. For many people, the combination of authenticity of pop culture catch and the bizarre as an ugliest that it, he said. But once you break from
Starting point is 01:17:07 your prejudice, you can get to a different approach. Once you break those barriers, you are free. Which I kind of agree with that. Yeah. He likened the process of changing one's perception of the video, in part because of its pure addictiveness, to changing one's view of Israel. And, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, of Israel. And, and. Oh, I'm so happy. And in fact, that's how they got the singers on board. All three were reluctant due to their preconceptions about Israel, but then the creatives were like, wow. So you misunderstand Israel just as the internet misunderstands you.
Starting point is 01:17:43 Boom. So much East Ohio. Therein. What? I'm in a relation. Well, just as the internet misunderstands you, boom, so much easier than I am, there in. What? I'm in a relation. Okay, yeah. Yeah. So the music is written by an accomplished musician named Gabby Kerbal with lyrics written by Clayman who takes care to mimic the occasional lyrical imperfections of the artist's
Starting point is 01:17:59 previous work. I'm trying to remember a phrase of Picasso's, it took many years for me to learn how to faint like a child Again, kind of sending thank you. Yes. I mean, I guess not in the case of Lepa Kinga Wendy because she is a child, but okay. Yeah So everyone of it's interesting everyone involved in this production is legitimately very talented They're trained professionals ghost writing the tone of these particular untrained artists. Very well, I would say. Okay, yeah, no, yeah, I totally agree.
Starting point is 01:18:31 Yeah, yeah, I didn't realize. But like you say, with a little bit of like big city, aren't they cute? That I've kind of found is sort of inextricable from stuff like this. I don't know. Clayman calls up a music video director named Picky Talleriko, and he's worked with Julio Iglesias, Strict a bull from stuff like this? I don't know. Clayman calls up a music video director named picky
Starting point is 01:18:45 Tallerico and he's worked with Julio Iglesias, Nelly Furtado, Juanis, he asks Tallerico, Clayman asks Tallerico if he knows anyone who would do this and Tallerico cannot suggest himself fast enough. He regards Delfine Wendy and Degres as true artists who make work and clouded by prejudice, self-consciousness and he enjoyed the task of taking other styles. After 200 music videos and 400 commercials, it was like an undoing, a deconstruction. Oh, going back to your roots, kind of. Going back to the basics, just like feel it out. Yeah. Later on says Irankarmin, Talleriko, the video's director, recalled how pleased he was when Mueller forwarded him YouTube comments, complaining that the video looked like the work of a beginner student and a not very good one Tallerico intentionally used a logical footage of Israel and he said that he doesn't really know or care
Starting point is 01:19:34 If the video changed hearts and minds on Israel despite having a Jewish grandparent Hi, you can be Jewish and have some misgivings about the state of Israel too. That's fine. Sure. Quote, if someone had approached me to do this video for Afghanistan or Argentina, I would have done it too. Yeah. There are plans for a tour of Latin America, Miami, New York, and Israel. Never materialize. No! No plan is there!
Starting point is 01:20:03 No! No! No! No! No, PLEASE CIRNO! No! No! The singer still got some nice clout and some TV appearances off the whole thing. They finally all meet in person in 2010 to perform the song at UFEST, a YouTube music festival in Buenos Aires. You can find the footage on YouTube. The crowd is fucking lit. They're wearing like, they're in the dark,
Starting point is 01:20:25 bunny ears for some reason. Yeah. And that is it. Our three performers go their separate ways. Back to Peru for Wendy and D'Gresa. Back to Ecuador for D'Alfín. D'Gresa keeps on releasing music and falls into what is clearly her intended place in the world.
Starting point is 01:20:42 The gay nightlife scene. Oh, yeah. Welife scene. Oh yeah. We all find where we belong. Yeah, that's beautiful. Most recently, Degresa released a squid game parody song called El Baila de Alcala Mar, the squid dance. Oh, cute. The dance of the squid.
Starting point is 01:20:58 Yes. She dresses like the red light green light doll and wraps over a machine gun fire about how she's going to kill you. Whoa. I have not seen squid games, so. This is like the red light green light doll and wraps over machine gun fire about how she's gonna kill you. Whoa. I have not seen Squid Game so. Oh so that means nothing to you but it will the somebody somewhere. She also starts a little sideline in her other obvious natural habitat reality TV.
Starting point is 01:21:18 She appears on the Colombian version of Dancing with the Stars. Hey! Where she receives bad scores and is eliminated first. Ooh! If you want to watch her dance to Bad Girls by Donna Summer, that's you can find that on YouTube. Wow. YouTube, the real star of this episode is YouTube.
Starting point is 01:21:40 In another reality show, Degresa is left at the altar by her 45 years younger boyfriend. Oh no. He said it was fake. Her further exploits have included posing topless in a magazine, being the subject of a false death announcement on Peruvian television, and most recently started- That's the dream. That's a dream. Well, I'll tell you what's the dream most recently starting in only fans at the apparent
Starting point is 01:22:04 age of 77 That's tight That is that that is the dream. Yeah, yeah, that's the dream Wendy Sulka No longer soap again. Yeah, no Covers Madonna's like a virgin in 2012 at the ripe old age of 16 a good a good one for her Yes, yeah, if it fits the portfolio. In Espanol? Las dos.
Starting point is 01:22:28 She branches out into acting with a few small TV and movie roles, one article about her movie debut claims she plans to release a biography called Wendy Sulka Beyond the Breast. I couldn't find it, but I await any further news with Bated Breasts. Oh, I said I Apparently she released an updated version of Cervesa Cervesa that fucking slaps. Here's a little before and after for ya. Yeah! Perhaps the most extraordinary ending in our story, an ending in Eroquotes because everybody here is still alive. And as we know, there's always a new Evo Amanasin.
Starting point is 01:23:48 YouTube is alive and well. Kicken in Vrijven. Delfink Hishbe. Delfin's star continues to rise. He makes TV appearances, including a commercial where he has rewritten his 9-11 song to be about Sabroson brand cooking oil. Oh, yeah. And he does the Pasito de Delphine in a spoonful of soup.
Starting point is 01:24:07 Mmm. Green screen. Love it. Good. Delicious. Delicious green screen. He receives a nomination for MTV Latino and the Web Celebrity. He's also invited for a repeat performance at UFEST 2012.
Starting point is 01:24:20 This time in Madrid, headliner Rick Astley. Ooh, Rick Roll. In 2018, Delphine runs to be mayor of the town of Guamote, where he is lived and served as a cultural ambassador and participated in the indigenous organizational scene for decades. He wins the race with 24.09% of the vote, which is 6,222 votes. Okay.
Starting point is 01:24:45 Myordalfoon! Where this is? See? In November 2021, Mayor Delphine Kishbe is sentenced to five years in prison for overpaying a single vendor of COVID-19 medical supplies by almost $100,000. That's a lot of money. It's a lot of money and we need that money. Thelfine claims that he was not complicit in a scam and that he had merely allowed himself to be
Starting point is 01:25:19 extorted in order to get the supplies faster and save lives. in order to get the supplies faster and save lives. Oh. I mean, there was a lot of price gouging. I gotta say, times of crisis, price is gouged. He did say his girlfriend died in 9-11. That was the other side of that. Yeah, I see. So we'll see.
Starting point is 01:25:38 Regardless, he has supporters on the outside on December 28th, 2022. The Degresse de la Oriente tweeted, Feliz cumpleaños del fin quijpe, que la energía positiva te siga acompañando o emaniane siempre de este mamucho. Which means, Happy Birthday, Dothin. I hope that you continue to be surrounded by positive energy
Starting point is 01:26:02 today, tomorrow, and forever. I respect you a lot. Hwllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll told one journalist that artists like Delphine specifically arise from community's need for expression that they need to fuse traditional styles with contemporary ones and then you to assert their cultural identity visibly locally and internationally. Writing for the New York review of books in 2010, Alma Guillermo Prieto said of the stars of Antustiara Spilare, their self-confidence and optimism we can only envy and yet they have lives we can barely imagine. How much did the rural violence provoked by peru's shedding path gorilla influence Wendy's parents decision to migrate to the capital? But millions of people admire these singers. This is not outsider, but insider art of the deepest
Starting point is 01:26:56 sword forged in a hot, hot crucible, and it is we who stand on the outside peering misphalied screen. This is attempting note to and on, but it's an interesting sentiment to hear expressed about something assembled by slick big city creatives. Scaled mimics engage in a bit of mostly harmless manipulation depending on where you think seemingly unintentional Zionist propaganda lands on the spectrum of damage and that's a real reason. I was just saying,
Starting point is 01:27:19 I was just saying, I was saying, I was saying, I was saying, I was saying, I was saying, I was saying, I was saying, so again, we end on this question. If this is an outsider art what is it? Kitch camp I've been saying weird art whatever it is I've crushed this video a hundred times in my life easy probably more I reckon I know the whole thing 12 years after I first watched I'm now eight pages into a Google Docs single space some 11 point font document toings historyet's history. 11 point, wow. KV, and I'm quite happy, quite content.
Starting point is 01:27:50 Yeah. It'd be a shame if I got any bad news to interrupt those lives. Shoot, sorry, some of the songs just came up on my phone in a serious collar. Let me check in. Okay, you can take it, sure. No, PLEASE, SIR! NOOOOO! I believe I'm your... The Platterson! No! The End! Thanks for listening!

Starting point is 01:29:11 would dig it. Stay sweet. The sources that I used for this episode's Memphis were two articles from Rolling Stone, both written by Shanei Roundtree. The first Alan Cummings missing co-star Chimp found alive after owner faked his death. Was published June 4th, 2022, and the second she faked her Chimp's death, then things went apeshit. Was published July 30th, 2022.
Starting point is 01:29:36 I also found two separate articles from Consequence Film.
