but they're in a better place than they've been in decades that's that's where i'm at well you should never watch evo ever again it clearly what has been happening what's been happening is that you watching evo has made everyone nervous to announce something cool and they have decided to not do that for many years yeah i actually did get to watch some of it but it was like on my phone in a car going through like back forest you know no spotty not even wi-fi spot yeah spotty cell phone towers so yeah you know i would catch like um someone walking up on stage and then it would blip out and then it would blip back and then i'd see jerry's feet yeah and then it would blip back out again

and then we were at uh you know introducing the next game or whatever so but i did i did eventually get to catch up and see what's going on yeah fighting game podcast fighting game yeah weekend if you're one of the folks who who skips past the fighting game parts of this podcast i have fucking real real fucking bad news for you today well it's we do this every year and it's like you know once a year there's going to be fighting game weekend whether evo takes place or not if it doesn't then they do all the announcements and it still becomes fighting game weekend but this year um evo happened and uh they did something interesting which is uh they they front loaded yeah you got you got you got one no no i don't know what i don't know what do you

know oh let's just okay let's just sounded like it sounded like it sounded like you got one there um yeah they front loaded trailers uh so that from friday going forward even there was like announcements happening the entire time um which is pretty cool when you have stuff dropping friday stuff dropping saturday you know and like it's like oh shit the entire time you're hearing new new wild shit for every game as it goes out um and it's not just a stack of sunday announcements the usual the usual plan of hey we're gonna do the big announcement for our game at fucking 3 30 a.m on a sunday night um like i i understand like oh you'll do it after grand finals of your game and that makes sense but like people are fucking asleep like at that time of night on

almost each of those nights yeah and it also is determined somewhat by the participation numbers so the game that gets the most participation is gonna go on the big stage and is usually gonna go last so you're gonna expect those announcements to be like saved for sunday but um still there was stuff at preemptively announced and that was that was very cool um yeah so anyway i mean if i sound and and look different it's because that is the case this is new brunswick woolly coming to you from a little a little home in new brunswick canada which is for those of you who might not know uh further to the east so i'm you know how north america is shaped like a dragon right if you look at like if you look at cobec is like a big head with like the lips sticking out

florida is like the little t-rex arms mexico is like the feet going down to central america then there's a huge tail it's like a dinosaur shape this is this is creative wait really hold on stop you told other people about this of course i've had this discussion many times you know how it's like it's like a dinosaur like kind of like shape right you look at north america and you see like cobec is like a head in profile with like a weird okay all right okay we're just going to do this the slow way everyone's going to be like oh god what are you talking okay we'll just do it the slow way i all right i'm just pull up north america it's really simple guys i'm look it takes no creativity whatsoever right so so if you're looking imagine

a dinosaur looking to the right okay okay so imagine that like mexico is like the feet kind of imagine america is the body and florida is like the little t-rex arms sticking out and then you've got the big shape that's cobec that's kind of like a head the hudson bay would be like the dip between from behind the head and then like kind of like a tail shooting out to alaska right i i can so i can kind of see like it's just a little dinosaur in profile it's not i can kind of see the mouth yeah right but like the rest of it feels like an absurd stretch it's it's really not it's not this is not the first time this has been said it's just the fuck are you looking at a mercator projection are you looking at a globe i am looking at the google image searches

under north america and quite simply you look at it you see a dinosaur in profile with like a big canada's a big back and then alaska's a tail sticking up in the air but it shakes alaska's it's it's like a triangle shape the whole the whole of north america is a big triangle right and it cuts into itself in a kind of way where you get like yeah again t-rex arms for florida that's the most clear little jutting out bit and then cobec has a big weird head thing to it cobec is shaped like a draconian head state facing east you know um you with the lower jaw being like the new brunswick in the maritime precisely so all i was gonna say i because we got stun locked on this for no reason whatsoever obviously yeah i see it of course you see it it's not that complicated it requires it's

but it requires a two in conceptualization guys i so anyway i don't know about that all it is is i'm on the lower very creatively i'm on the lower lip of the mouth of of of of uh canada on the east side couldn't couldn't you just say it's like one province east from cobec yes i was just trying to give a visual locator for anyone who doesn't know where the lines go because i'm glad that i'm glad that you made this so much clearer to everyone i mean anyway they're like i would get ms paint out and draw over it but i don't even think that's necessary i think it's really just like i don't think it's necessary right now but i do think in the grants it'd be really funny absolutely vital that you do so it would be really funny yeah absolutely i mean if i can't do it with uh

my fingers right now then i don't know what to tell you but it's just you you're fucking i love how on the on the podcast that we're going to talk the most about fighting games in a while since we're obviously not going to be able to use the phrase it's like fighting games you have decided to introduce the ideas of land masses of it's like a dinosaur right okay all right so i'm going to try to describe this okay so let me see here this is this is going to be bad this is going to be awkward with the mouse but maybe i can just kind of got an ms paint it's over my head right so if you were to just picture a thing that like a fat tail dinosaur with like a big back right and then it's got like this then it's got like a mouth and then you got then you got a little little claws

down there right and then this the butt is just this big old thing and okay i didn't space that out properly that's okay yeah no that's yeah i didn't space it out well this is okay let me just give myself a little more space right and then you got like this whole shape down here which is all like foot right i and it kind of just does this thing and it's just like yeah look you you throw a little cute eye right in the middle of kebek right and it's almost like an iguana shape like right it'd be like lit sick or some sure yeah you could even yoshi it you can even put a little fucking seat where mario would sit you know but it's not it's you know you can even give it a little stomach if you wanted to you know it's not that creative it's so basic it's

so basic it's real simple it's just a fucking weird fatty dinosaur shape it's this is not difficult to conceptualize i promise you right and you throw some shit on it like that and then you go my favorite part about this is the people who are going to listen to just the audio version are just gonna just be in like it overwhelmed by like how crazy you sound but can't see the photo i mean i don't i i don't know what else to tell you okay it's oh good there's colors now well it's unfortunately not fully closed off so it's not great but you know anyways you get it it's just that simple guys i i just drew a little yoshi style dinosaur it's over a vague shape of what north america kinds of looks like and instead and like you can act all the way like you want like oh

it's fucking insane like okay sure you don't see the vague dinosaur shape guys it's so fucking simple anyways i'm just glad to see that you're getting just as much out of your art degree as i am of my psychology degree absolutely you know yeah so anyways can you make this like the fucking photo of the podcast on itunes or something is that like is that a function that you can do i can i can save this i can save this display it later but whatever it's as simple as that so all i'm trying to say is i'm on the bottom lip i'm on the tip the tip of the bottom lip right i'm hanging out you're in trailer park boys country i mean it's not that bad but i'm like i'm like yeah right around right i mean new bro new brunswick is where the trailer park boys is from oh okay well in any case

it's that's why bubbles has that fucking accent is because he's a little bit more from the east okay um yeah so anyways if you live in north america you are not aware of the fact that you were living on a giant dinosaur then what good morning hello well i mean it is somewhat appropriate because north america is the place where dinosaurs was found okay sure that's why you have all sorts of fucking stupid dinosaur names like albertasaur because there were just so goddamn many dug out of the ground here ah interesting that's cool um yeah so anyway the uh the the the the path down to these parts uh was again mostly fine at the beginning but then as it got later and as the matches got more hype and as things get more got more excited it got a

little more spotty in the car um thank you i got a quick quick question for you about the trip uh when you passed out of kebek did you just go from like a dirt path with rocks onto like a smooth paved so that happens going that happens every time you go west for sure eastward not as much it's kind of the same thing um the highway okay let's the same but like there's that there's a specific moment yeah we've described it many times going westward where the moment the welcome to to kebek sign pops up you hit the road the road just going under your feet um anyway the uh we did definitely hit moose country and you know the warning signs were out there for like hey just keep in mind you're gonna you might see a couple they might cross the road be aware um and when it got really dark like

there was like there was like a service road we could have taken we could have turned on to to shave like half an hour off and it's like no no don't do that no no no thank you service roads no good um zero cell phone reception zero lights of any kind zero traction for your tires bad things um so yeah oh no we're lost and we're only like a 15 minute drive off the road but with no cell service we might as well be 100 miles away exactly exactly no that's that's bad that's bad times you know um and i know um like one of the one of the the uh in-laws was discussing like they saw like um a moose that was like a mother with its baby nearby and it's like oh cute to see a moose baby but also holy fuck you do not want to be anywhere near that thing

when it thinks you're a threat far away yeah you want to be far away what if a school bus came to life and decided that you were a threat can't this just be a normal field trip yeah um so anyway it's but it's quite nice because you know here on sitting here on the bottom look i got a fucking i'm looking at the ocean uh that's cool um and uh i'm also very excited as we pulled out here and you get to the like it's canadian beachfront area there's got you know like like yeah it's sand and it's then it's water and it's nice but it's definitely like muddy water and you know little kind of like again like dirty sand um but the wind is nice and i brought me some kites so i'm very excited to get out so that's the excuse to seeing the in-laws this good kiten

country i hope so we're there's there's a bunch of there but there's a bunch of them to see and a bunch going on and there's like a you know like a couple of um uh uh uh there's there's a whole like what should we call it uh it's it's like small town you know group of people all very like tight knit and you know you meet you meet you meet like all the people that i'm hearing these stories about and putting on as best an impression as i can and you know trying to do all that but um all the meeting of people and stuff is getting in the way of good kiting time i'm not gonna lie and uh every time i feel the wind blow on my face i'm kind of like motherfucker i could i could have had that gust you know um anyways i brought it with me it's wild to see you get so fucking enamored with

this like not not suddenly because like like it's been what six months or a year or what have you give or take but just like just your your unbridled joy at flying a kite i'm a little jealous when i have to admit when not indoors when i'm outdoors and outdoor things are happening it's like the number one thing i want to be doing outdoors don't know what to say um with that though um i guess yeah not much to really say i mean if we're just gonna talk about like week stuff but um it was a yeah pretty barren for me as well to be honest it was uh honestly like i think it was like like 14 hours from where we were straight down um we stopped for two for dinner to meet so to meet

some family but um is like more or less 12 hours in the car so it was pretty intense um but uh yeah the uh only things i guess i'd i'd i guess talk a bit about about before that is um getting uh further in uh dead space uh which we're currently doing on the channel it is interesting how uh every time a new weapon pops up and it's like oh shit that's really cool i don't know if i want to spend five nodes to get it well there a damage buff when i there's your replay there's your replay value right there exactly when i could just you know like spend it on the cutter and or give myself a little bit better like you know four stasis or a little bit of health here and there um and so i believe the way that

that ends up working is if you're if you're happy with where your plasma cutter is at your plasma cutter can always be relied on in every situation so that's supposed to give you the freedom to experiment a little bit more with the others i don't think it works for situations where the enemies aren't to be cut though there's a couple of enemies that you're supposed to like either shoot at or like you know use the impact uh the the impact gun or the wind gun type of thing to just not wind whatever it is the um uh force gun force guns right like if there's the little critters that kind of need that you know um that type of concussive shot where if you shoot a cutter at them that's going to just be a waste of a cut

oh you mean the little fucking blob pieces of shit yeah or like you know the pregnant thing that comes out and bursts them at you for example yeah so those things if they do burst and then the swarm is coming at you then the cutter is not as useful as something with a larger yeah no the cutter is it's the only enemy type in the game the cutter is absolute trash for and ironically enough the best weapon for them is the flamethrower i would imagine um yeah uh stepping on them trying to stomp them out doesn't work when they land on your back the moment they get within a jumping distance that's outside of your stomp distance so that doesn't work either you kind of want to switch to something else so um there is a huge asterisk next to uh plasma cutter only you know

which is like you're going to have a couple of these guys that are not going to be that that um great to deal with those things um fighting the brute interesting um made a lot more viable when you just you do the stasis on them reposition oh yeah it feels like you kind of have to really um fucking yeah just very solid the the audio mixing continues to be just batshit silly um and i guess there's there's one point i had which is going to come up um in the lp where it was a moment of like you're fighting the the the regenerator gets introduced and then you kind of have to fight it a little bit and then when you take it out it's like oh shit it's coming back and then you and then it's like get out get out of there is it run behind

you the door opens and you kind of make it out and it's like okay so and then you start hearing it like in the walls chasing you and shit which is a whole cool sequence of like oh fuck this thing that can't be killed is coming after you um and i was like i don't know if this is an active pursuit or a mr x style or if it's more of a cinematic one but either way we're in the moment you know and and and it's and it's a cinematic one ultimately but yeah it was still very cool i enjoyed that um and it's cinematic but they're still going to lock you into rooms and be like no you're just gonna have to deal with this right and so this a length of time and so um and the the third time you encounter it you fight it in the room where you've got to like lure it into the freezer

and then activate which is a really cool thing as well because like it's like okay they set it up you've got an opening you kind of see that it's like okay you know it regenerates try to get it in there run through the room and while it's like pulsing freeze that shit drop it out you know really really fun with that but the second time right at both times at both of those times it's like it's done in a way where you you see what's going on you realize the problem and you kind of find the solution the second time though i have to say um it's a room with normal enemies and then the regenerators in there too and uh like there's a you know i was there's a couple of side there's like a one or two side rooms

and then like lots of stuff to pick up and look at in this large lab area and then an exit point but the exit's locked and like i went through a couple of tries dying there because i'm like well i'm not fighting the regenerator because you got to get out of there this is no point and like i'm taking out the regular enemies and kind of just took and like i took out the regenerator at one point and then was running in circles for a bit and didn't really see a way out so uh and i was i was running low on ammo as well admittedly but it kind of was just like what is what are we doing here you know um and it's a couple tries later it was like uh clear the room take out the regenerator uh it regenerates take it out again then the

senate then it's going to go okay now you can move forward and i was like oh but you kind of conditioned me to be like run from this thing you're there's no point fighting it you know so to answer your question the point of that room is to drain you of as many resources as possible okay i guess so and uh the regenerator uh situation with that has like the there's like a couple like not optimal but ways that you can get around it other than just shooting its legs off i found by far the two most effective techniques were tk the absolute piss out of it just absolutely everything you can pick up in the fucking environment to fucking punch it and the other was to cut off one of its legs and then the instant it hits the ground

stasis it okay and then that will last like that just stops the clock on its regeneration until the stasis wears off you see and so the thing i was basically like after i kind of realized oh it's not about time and it's not about like clearing then i was like well i don't know what the rule is here then besides dumping the ammo of course um and i mean like it's it's the i always remember like one of the worst examples of like the situation calls for i guess your your train of thought in a given situation in a game will affect like what you're doing and how you play and the one that always like works me the most is i talk about the walking dead season two moment where running out of bullets is uh mandatory in the sequence but if you don't panic fire

you're gonna die right and right it's like it's this whole bit um i mean i you know it's been a while now so in case you've never heard me talk about it it's it's it's one of the things that made me the most upset about walking dead season two was just like a moment where the zombies come and they attack you and then like there's a cinematic shoot all the zombies you can and then you're running out of bullets so when i ran out of bullets i was like well okay i guess that's it then and i died multiple times and then it turned out i had to run out of bullets and then go click click click at least three or four times then someone would cutscene save me but if you don't panic fire click click click that never happens right so it's always the the

biggest problem is like i want the player to do this highly specific like important narrative action and people go i don't want to do that though i'm not the kind of person who knows i have no bullets left and then continues panic firing i just i i realize the situation you know so anyway uh that didn't work at all when it comes to communicating what their message was in this case it's not it's not that bad but it is in that vein of like i've been conditioned into into knowing that this is a regenerator that is a bad um it's it's it's worthless to try and kill it so my thing is i'm trying to not waste resources on this because i know how much of a waste of resources it is therefore i'm like what is the next rule here to get that door open you know if it's not a

timer or finding the battery in the room to do something and then it turns out that it's like no you actually should be wasting those resources and then getting it on like to start regenerating a second time i think if i remember correctly the way that i did it a million years ago which was probably the way they wanted you to do it is realize that the regenerator is the scariest thing in the room and does the most damage and moves the fastest so immediately neutralize its legs right like as step one use that time to deal with the enemies then when the regenerator gets up neutralizes legs again finish off the enemies and by that point i think you'll hit like whatever internal damage threshold the room requires to open up the door yeah i mean by the

time it did work like it was pretty much it was the only thing left and i was just like i guess i'll keep you know using my ammo on him until something happens and then it happened it was like okay we moved forward but that's that's the the the the first like little wrinkle you know i felt in the design that was kind of just like uh maybe there could have been uh uh uh something else about like maybe there could have been something else about like that like you've got a state you got to fight him for this long you got to survive for this long or maybe even a voice clip about like just you know hold him off for now we'll work on it we'll get that door open or a little something to be like um okay switch from run from this thing mode into fight it

mode and then when the door opens we're going to go back to running from it yeah dead space one specifically has a kind of a weird problem where it like wildly over tutorializes certain parts of itself and then like kind of acts like a normal game in other states but because you're so used to the wild over tutorialization like the amount of people that tell you to chop off their limbs in like the first 10 minutes of the game is absurd and it does have a button to hit where it's like i don't know where to go so you kind of expect this kind of leading you by the hand idea and to get into this big kind of open area that you're just like well what what do you fucking want from me it's kind of strange um yeah so then i continued and then i you know fought the

brute uh did the whole sequence with the um uh there's a great fucking fight with the whatever you want to call it the wall boss you know yeah uh the fucking the the fucking planetarium food boss that was awesome you could just frame uh whatever you go into a jump you can you get iframes off of your like leaping from one surface to another so you use that to dodge at the last second really cool boss fight there i was very happy with that and i know that this is also the time and era and like season of um western games questioning whether or not boss fights are even worth it you know but uh that was not a joker bane fight certainly i i enjoyed you know uh that that boss is really strong the final boss is also really good cool what the other wrinkle

was of course and this like i'm gonna take it on me for also like you know not having having part of the the second wrinkle is a skill issue as the kids say here right skill issue but you know you have to cross the the gap where the asteroids are hammering down um and then you have to play then you have to play a game of shoot down the asteroids and motherfucker this game has been training me to not shoot to ignore headshots and cut the limbs off and now you're asking me for a sequence of perfect headshots and i can't do that so what's really funny is that when you were talking about uh intended difficulty and stuff like that in the room earlier i loaded in the asteroid shooting mini game into my head to talk about it uh when you talked about being

further in the game um that mini game uh is way harder than the rest of the game around it to the point of uh if you're playing that game the hardest difficulty that's the run stopper because uh you can only let one through oh my god one oh my god okay yeah that's and listen i i this this is one of those situations where i'm being drowned in a wave of people going dude that's the worst part of the game it stopped it for me it made it it was a huge issue and the other side of people going woolly your aim is garbage that thing is fine no one had a problem with it those are those are both true well had a problem with it and it's also the hardest thing and no it is it is easily the most difficult thing in the game and it's weird because you get to it

like chapter three and it doesn't treat itself like it's going to be that hard it's super hard i was very surprised at how uh there the amount of like asteroids coming at me in a way where i was like i don't know if it's possible to get them all but like if it is i'm not that guy you know and i'm looking at it now i'm thinking maybe i should have went down and dropped the sensitivity on the stick for that part because um overshooting is an issue that is happening more often than undershooting so um you know i think i got it on like whatever the fourth or fifth try but i mean that's pretty normal but the people saying it's it's easy and then you're just trash most of those people probably played it with a mouse which makes that sequence a joke oh

oh on pc no i'm talking about the xbox controller yeah of course you are because that's what the game oh where the game is best oh well if you're talking about this and you you were on mouse keyboard then your opinion doesn't count you didn't play the same thing fuck that that's completely different you're playing something else get out of here i'm not listening to you fuck off um but uh i had a really great experience where somebody messaged me to message you that that very like aggressive passive aggressive yes bullshit like can you please tell woolly to stop stopping every single enemy i'm like no i'm not gonna do that he should stop every single enemy it's fun stop them and and and where you get to regular humans and you stop them and they fly

apart like a pinata i have to best thing in the whole game i i actually stopped stomping them for a bit as we were rolling through it and then the the thing the the the whatever the necromorph that creates new ones came out and started oh yeah the converter yeah and started making new ones i was like oh back to stopping yeah the infector yeah that's what's called the infector yeah those things are um those are the scariest enemy in the game by far because first priority and then and then they always drop you in a room with like a hundred corpses and you're just like oh and it doesn't have any limbs to cut absolute first priority um those that's another thing that requires gun or concussive force you know yeah um pulse rifle is actually very excellent for them

because it's the only enemy in the world that actually functions like a regular shooter enemy also the wall projectile things there's the wall things or if you get close to them they instant kill you yeah those pieces yeah you kind of need the gun for those two so there's there's a couple types of enemies that it's like you need a second thing um and it's too far for uh or it's too close for a saw to work either so you got a for the the ripper to work um but yeah you know little little wrinkles aside still just very enjoyable and um the now that i've maxed out the the you know the main plasma cutter i guess um i guess i'm yeah i'm just i'm looking at my cores and i'm kind of i'm gonna start hoarding them a little bit and then i guess i'll dump them

all in one direction one way or the other i'm not a hundred percent sure yet i think i'm just gonna go for like health stasis and then perhaps um go towards the ripper but my ripper is now under you can't go wrong with almost any upgrade in that game like when you upgrade stasis in that game stasis lasts like forever it's crazy how long it lasts but also i got what i'm calling the magnum you know um it's that contact beam yeah and that thing was really strong that's that's like closer to the rocket launcher like that thing is absurd it's a stasis of brute and then point at its arm and then it dies um and the game is also deciding to be ridiculous with how much contact ammo it's giving me so i'm like okay we're gonna we're gonna so the alt fire on the contact

beam uh will take away all those little swarming pieces of shit um it's like it's like it's the explosion yes but yeah i noticed that the explosion it has an unclear hit hitbox range because it's larger than the graphic of the explosion because i've seen things blow up from further but it's not so far that it's like a screen clear you know no there's a middle point it is very much get get off me please god lord um so yeah that's coming along and uh uh yeah fun i'm curious to see how many other quote unquote wrinkles there will be but like also really solid boss fights so fun stuff with that um i also like how yeah it's it's the thing that was uncommon at the time but dead space actually has a really good final level and

like a good final boss cool which like games around that time all that shit sucked and also like it might be ugly to watch and annoying but every time i see one of those exploding canisters i'm fucking bringing it with me because it's a grenade you know it's like i i i'm gonna walk five rooms out drop it open the door and pick it back up because the next thing i see is gonna die you know and it's worth it yeah and and if there's a couple guys then the next couple of things you see are gonna die um so yeah good times with that uh yeah that game's incredible and uh meanwhile over on mass effect good times uh as well uh you know just kind of continuing along as we were um i'm just playing straight vanguard at this point and uh the charge something that

i didn't realize when i was first introduced to it was that it was a shield recharger and it oh yeah and that bit was missing because i thought it was a suicide like run into the enemy's side of the battle oh i mean it still can be if you dive right in there unbelievable with the final upgrade to being a full shield reactivation uh so if you're trying to tackle an ed 209 you know and uh you're about to die and you get your charge back up tackle it again just yes stay in there it is ridiculous maximum ungabunga like shooter gameplay uh huh like never stop going in but there are but yes but there is a time to stop going in and like after like your third charge and you're surrounded by like five people that are all just shooting at you your your your fourth charge will

not get you enough shield to not get melted no then then what you want is you want to look around and see somebody far away that you can charge to yes exactly um ungah and bunga and ungah may be a third time but probably soft ungah out of there into into and you know and the other thing that about it that like i mean i think i might have mentioned it but just the fact that nothing in your way stops you is humongous because it's like it makes no sense that you go through the geometry but it would be a completely unfun power if you did have to be concerned about the geometry so i'm going to let you know this in advance at some point in the game you're going to encounter platforms that move you cannot use vanguard on any platform that has ever moved

i see i see collision is fleeting yeah okay doesn't want you to do it and the one time that i managed to do it i fucking flew out of the god yeah so yeah there was a boss that was on a platform that was above me that also said no no you're not getting up here no you're not doing this i saw that um but it's still yeah it's it's you know if you hacked because my initial thought was like okay you're gonna have to run out into the open out of cover get a clean line of sight then do a charge and by the time you do that you're taking all this damage hopefully the charge is worth it but yeah you just ignores all that shit and just goes right through so very fun um and i see you've discovered the you're a little late but it filled me with joy to see you discover

fucking shilling for your favorite store in the citadel that's great yes yeah just walking down the whole strip one after the other you know i'm not playing straight renegade i'm not playing straight paragon i'm playing whatever my fancy flies by and uh in this case going blue was just like i'm commander shepherd and this is my favorite store on the citadel super great or hey everyone this shopkeeper's racist i feel like that's one of the all-time bests like either way interactions because every every permutation of reds and blues on that is hilarious like saying every store is your favorite is great saying every store except for this one that you just chose to dislike for some reason and just dive bombing them also great yeah yeah all the ads you can

stop and watch creepily identifying you and your name and your location and who you're with um committing to l core hamlet you know um solid solid bits landing back on the citadel very very happy with that uh and of course you know party retrieval is is going going interestingly um it literally is the name of the game that like now that you're deep enough in like no that's the game it's like hey you want to go get another cool guy i do i i certainly do um and uh uh what was it it's it's interesting too how like uh yeah the like i called him cable but just like zaid you know your dlc character it's like okay we need to have a character show up and he's going to be at an add-on and we can't have the conversation be uh uh one where shepard has

extra lines of dialogue so it's just these one-way examine his gun examine that helmet sort of conversations you're having with them um jack has been met so people for years who have been like woolly you need to see jack i have seen jack i like the cut of her jib looks pretty cool it's incredibly edgy it's so so cut your fucking fingers if you're trying to pick it up edgy it's wild um but you know yeah i like that kind of character that's kind of i mean not that not not not that part but the other parts are cool my biggest problem with jack is that she represents the absolute like pinnacle of character in cutscenes versus character in gameplay uh huh like in in in the cutscene in which she appears she's tearing through the base like she's fucking

sephiroth yes like she she actively starts out with a biotic force pull into a a paymaker and then super jumps out of the scene and and you just you're just walking through just endless wreckage of her just mindpowering everybody and then you get her on the team and you get to use pull and then wait a few seconds for pull to come back and you're like this is not this is not the character that you you describe to me um you know but uh i'm hoping that yeah i'm hoping that when you get her levels up there's gonna be some more you know unique interesting things there certainly but yeah that that's a bit um i have to say to like okay obviously we talked about how scanning planet sucks and all that jazz um we did but like now looking at yeah the the ship

exploration bit the fact that you have gas is not as many people are i'm seeing like are like we're talking about this this aspect but it really like limits your willingness to explore right it's such a bad idea to put something like that into the game but it and and like and again i think it's trying to find a way to like replace mako missions with like map yeah maneuvering in a way then making it like feel like it's gamified but because i guess if you if you just use the map to select dots and then load in to your next like you know megaman character uh a sequence um you know it would be going way too fast compared to you know the first game did but that way of slowing it down just especially on the heels of the first game feels terrible it feels really bad that like i just

want to like kind of look around this area of the of the milky way which you know it's cool because it's the other it's the top side that we we did look at in the in the first game and yeah exploration is actively discouraged that's just one of the only times i could think of a game was like maybe don't explore you know you know maybe stick to what's around you and and don't go out there you know i have good news for you though um mass effect two in terms of the mass spec one two and three uh mass effect two is only the second shittiest version of that mechanic i see because the third one takes everything that you were describing that you don't like about it and just fucking amps it up for no reason um yeah and you know even like on the

on the level of just like uh uh uh well i guess i'm gonna i'm gonna have to like see what happens as you as you push out into the like um there's the solar systems and then there's the uh um shit what's the uh middle step in between that in the middle way like milky way then solar system and cluster cluster yeah a cluster cluster the clusters yeah yeah i yes so like yeah there's as you as you push out into the clusters and it's like yeah there's there's a couple of times i know that gas is cheap but there's at least one or two situations where i was like oh there's an interesting thing i guess it's not the goal right now but should i go look over there and i was like no the thing that's annoying is that gas is so cheap

that like why does it even it fucking exists but it still led to me being like i can make it like to this to the other one and then i went into i went into a system this is what happened i went into a system um and then looked around that system and then that system had no gas stations in it and i went oh fuck this this sucks so and instead of just going to get the rest of what i was looking around for i'm like oh god let's go back to the first one let's go get gas let's come back out here and it's like all right this is this is not doing whatever they wanted it to do you know um anyway but uh that's going all right too so yeah um mass effect and dead space i'll check them out those are coming out over on woolly versus um

um and uh yeah i guess um i've only been here for you know uh a day or two but uh i will report back next time on more new brendswick adventures i know that uh the thing out in these like sort of maritime's is seafood clams fishing uh might go out on a boat i don't know we'll see yeah um i'm down i'm down the the big thing is like everyone's got their kayak out here and i'm more of a canoe guy i think um yeah mainly just because i had a really bad experience and kayaking once uh i was you know i was doing it and then i flipped uh when i and this is like years ago when i was much younger but i flipped over and i didn't know the technique for like flipping all the way back around um so i flipped and was completely under and i was like all right well i've got my life

fast on and the ore floats so let me just use that to like you know do as you're trained and float up and then flip the boat back over and so like i'm grabbing the or i'm floating with the oar and i'm pushing up like this and then i can't get out of the flipped kayak because my leg is stuck inside and it's hooked on something and then you're like oh oh goody well i'm underwater right now that's bad and it's muddy dirty water of course you can't really get a clear visual of as to what's going on but uh okay let's try to okay no we're panicking i can't get my leg out of the boat what the fuck and i then had to like do like big like arcs of like sticking my head up to get a bit of air try to come back down you know pull might try to get it out back up back down and i was

essentially stuck under the flipped kayak and it was fucking it sucked very very a scary situation so drowning is not one of my favorite things to do not not not high on the list really um so in the end i'm like well i'm down with being on a boat and oaring out there and rowing and having fun i don't like the fact that my legs are enclosed in a thing where i can get stuck on a thing which is exactly what happened so a canoe is at least open topped if it flipped over who cares i'm i'm already out but the kayak closed top thing is i don't like that you know um so we'll see what happens but um you know maybe if i wear different clothing or if there's a pretty good clearing inside then i don't have to worry as much but that bad experience of almost drowning

because of the design of what a kayak is kind of makes me not want a kayak yeah so one of the strangest things out here in bc is occasionally you'll see people describe that they kayak to work right and i'm like that that just seems like a fucking terrible idea that just seems like a fucking stupid stupid way to kill yourself yeah um if you're doing it as a hobby for fun in your leisure get a good workout going sure as a regular means of transportation really jesus i guess unless you're on an island that like the i don't know if the bridge sucks or the traffic is you know lame or if it's legitimately faster to kayak across the river i can't possibly imagine any situation in which i would say man the traffic is going to be rough hold on let me

fight the ocean yeah i don't know not to mention like if you're in an area where you know it's rapids or something you're also just risking yourself like for no good reason um but then on the on the flip side uh if the worst happens then uh somebody who would think it's a good idea to kayak to work is no longer with us i see there's the upside right okay who can say sure sure like you ever see somebody who's like riding a longboard and you just like man i hope they hit like a rock and fall off a cliff i mean no i kind of i like longboards but you know that's fine oh figures okay i i mean i have i only have a regular deck i don't know i don't have a longboard but i if i did have a longboard i'd i'd i'd ride it yeah yeah i really can't possibly explain why i get so

to bounce on and kind of ride but yeah whatever anyways riding on wheels there's lots of ways to ride on wheels um and and uh when you use wheels you probably don't have to fight the ocean you don't have to one v one the sea yeah that's probably yeah i don't trust the ocean i'm there's a lot of ocean around here and i i i view it with with this trust well i don't know what it's gonna do it no one does that's the problem there's so much in there that we don't know about but we do know that it wants to kill you you know the fact that like let's be real the majority of planet earth has already lost to the ocean there's only there's only a couple of holdouts left that's accurate we've been losing a battle to the ocean for years now you know it's kind of upset that we

it be a dragon sandwich then i mean it would be yeah you could it would just kind of be the tail in the head so a lot of the be one of those badly made sandwiches or most of it sticking out the bottom but either way uh all right so so i'm going further in the witcher and it's like you know how that's a fucked up game for crazy people made by weirdos um going back to it many years later it's actually more broken than i had remembered um the second the second fucking major quest in that game is like a murder mystery quest figure out who the murderer is or figure out who the imposter is but there's a serious and i mean serious problem and that is here's the steps you're supposed to take you're supposed to talk to a private investigator that you're supposed to

investigate an informant and then the informant is supposed to die and then you're supposed to try and figure out who killed the informant or who's pretending to be an imposter or who whatever right um let's say you don't do that main quest instead you do the side quests first like many people do the first time you talk to any of the suspects in the later murder mystery it instantly pops a quest that goes suspect and then their name and then the first dialogue prompt for every single one of them is i think you're working for salamandra and it's just like the first time you've ever met them and and they go fuck you where's your proof and then the it auto fails because you have no proof and he goes i'm watching you and like what the fuck is going on i admit

every suspect in the case and interrogated them about a case i didn't know existed and chronologically hadn't happened yet before i actually got into the murder mystery so i know that that's a problem in skyrim and that type of issue being handled in a game made way years earlier uh must be like a complete fucking shit show yeah uh the whole two years earlier can you back before they knew how to do that witcher one was two years before skyrim 2007 holy shit yeah it was weirdly late okay wait hold on um when was oblivion and when was morrowind okay oblivion was 2005 and morrowind was like 2001 wait scarm was 2011 oh i got that wrong again i don't know why i was gone like that since 29 okay well thank you i'm like that that sounds insane i have no confidence

in what i'm saying anymore why do i always think skyrim came out in fucking 2009 talking on the internet makes you fucking massively i also think that i also thought that dark souls comes out in 2009 that is also wrong because it came out right alongside the the fucking the the dark the skyrim um 11 11 11 yeah no that game is fucked up that game is just fucked up like there's a there's a series of a quest where you have to talk to somebody and you go to their house and the old lady they're renting the house from you just screams at you the instant you walk into the house and she has like 15 different unique dialogue trees for get the fuck out of my house and only two have answers that let you get in so you go in and she tells you to get the fuck out

of there and then you just do it like five six seven more times until you figure out that when she yells at you that you should be ashamed of yourself for barging into her house you tell her to go fuck herself and you can go upstairs and talk to your friend can you do the thing where you walk in and see a stranger and just swing on them immediately and then the quest the quest okay you can you can take your shit out but you can only click on on stuff that's actually attacking you or or hostile or what have you but yeah no that game is fucked up that game is is fucking great i love it it's fucked up um the other game that i played that is not fucked up as i played the preview uh code for uh call to the lamb oh yeah uh call call the lamb is fucking

very very reminiscent of isek in that it has uh like fucking the same color hearts the same like the same types of upgrades that kind of thing uh but then you're grabbing like converts to bring back to your cults and then you are managing uh where they sleep their food uh what they're building what they're they're tearing down for resources they're going to ask you to do quests to you know decorate the place or feed someone a shit sandwich as a prank uh and then the more of the the more of the uh people in your town you get you will be able to you like every day you do a sermon which will give you faith which will then used to upgrade your combat and if you level up villagers they give you little pieces of commandments that you can put out to install

new doctrines like the ability to do a ritual of fasting in which no one gains any uh hunger for three days or uh belief in the afterlife in which they won't lose faith that people die anymore stuff like that nice um it's it's really great um like it's it's just it has the perfect amount of like management like light i guess um if you fuck up people be mad at your cult and then you're going to have to fucking put them in the stocks and reeducate them or kill them at night so that nobody sees um and as i'm doing this like you're constantly getting little quests of like hey can you get 10 flowers for me or can you feed this guy a shit sandwich which is a quest i got like four times and after feeding the guy like three shit sandwiches he eventually became a

crow profiliac so now he doesn't get sick when he sees poop anymore which is good because until you hit tier three and build outhouses they'll just shit wherever and then you have to go around and clean up their fucking dookie or else they start vomiting all over each other and losing faith in your religion how much is of it how much of it is divided into town management versus like isaac action secret like i would say it is split right down the middle 50 50 okay you like you leave town go do a quest and then come back to town type of thing yeah town is a town is is managing your faith but you're going to get most of your resources and gold and new followers out in the dungeon okay uh but it also keeps like throwing like extra shit at me i don't think i even unlocked

it all in the preview build but like you'll you'll get far enough in and some old guy will be like hey do you want to come hang out of my house and play dice and you get in there and it's a fully realized version of gwent but with dice so this guy was playing a lot of witcher it's literally the same rules as gwent except you're rolling dice like you were in dice poker and what you're won and it's actually really good okay you unlock a fishing minigame and you unlock some kind of mushroom shit that i didn't explore uh but yeah no it's it's fucking great and everyone's kind of like bobbing to the the cutesy beat the whole time yeah they're all little adorable animal creatures happy tree friends like the fucking animal crossing shit

yeah yeah solid but then you got to research the doctrine that they they don't mind eating people so when you kill the guy at night under secret because he's dissenting you can feed the guy's body to them so that they get like more faith because they love to be cannibals now yeah it's i mean so the the the one they first dropped the trailer for that i basically went like oh you made like a game out of that one episode of south park yeah kind of right the the the birth of the antichrist the animal it's very happy tree friends mm-hmm mm-hmm uh yeah no it's it's great it really scratches that same kind of itch that like frostpunk did in terms of the management where you get to that point where they're like we're fucking starving help us

and your your your your gut is like you're lucky i feed you at all right back to the mines suffering is good for the town i didn't have any food to give them so really all i could do is force them to fast okay and uh is this i don't know if it's it's strike it feels like a devolver game is it a devolver or is it it is absolutely a devolver yeah okay there um feels unsurprising feels about about right for the brand yeah okay devolver picks another winner uh the only other thing of note at all is that i played enough xeno blade three that i stopped deleted my file and decided to go back to one and two i saw that so was that about a desire for more or a desire to understand splot or it's it's it's two things

right one of which is man i'm really enjoying xeno blade three it is clearly much better than the other two if i do not play the other two before beating this one i will bounce the fuck off of them because they play like trash by comparison but you already did bounce off of them yes uh the second thing well that the the thing that i needed to know was to just not do the side quests which is counterintuitive to the way that i play games i see um the other one is that um very early on i got about two zones into xeno blade three i don't know if i talked about this last week on the podcast about the way it is is like xeno blade one versus xeno blade two as a fucking concept did i talk about this at all i don't think so okay so on the title screen

of xeno blade one there's the sword and then there's the mechon iconic remember that uh the fucking windows walking on the title screen yeah on the title screen of xeno blade two there's big fucking rock dragon right on the title blade of xeno blade three there is the mechonus's sword and the big rock dragon and then the core concept is there are two warring factions one of which is all the races from xeno blade one and the other is all the races from xeno blade two and then the first area that you go into like the big like plains area with you know the grassy plains is literally the first two areas of both games combined into one area down to the music interesting and then i got to the second one and i'm like is this the desert area from xeno

blade two but is that also the mechonus's hand like it is unironically like the plot is about both of those settings being mashed together so is it vital plot wise to understand what's going on one no absolutely not but am i going to get more out of it by familiarity with these areas and these p these types of characters and these uh these gameplay styles absolutely like that it's all the way down to characters that from one country use more of the xeno blade one battle system and characters from the other country use more of the xeno blade two battle system interesting um yeah i feel like every time it comes up and i'm and i've like you know like kind of thought about or asked about that the the vibe has been like the sequels are their own

things except for the parts that are not and there's cool stuff that you you will appreciate having known what came before no spoilers yeah i i have a strong suspicion that it's not going to be like you need to have played xeno blade one to understand the plot of three but i seriously believe that xeno blade three will have a bunch of cool shit happen and the difference will be like that was weird who was that and oh right right yeah i mean metal gear solid four with or without context yeah you know metal your solid four seems like it would be just totally baffling without the context of the prior game except for that person who wrote in and said i played mgs4 first with no context whatsoever and loved it you know yeah but anyway yeah

but yeah so uh i'm playing xeno blade one and wow uh if the side quest isn't correctly named ignore it is a piece of advice i wish i had known a long time ago because uh in like two afternoons i'm already halfway through gar planes whereas in the original i had spent 15 hours in the first zone because i was doing all the challenge quests and all the item quests and all that shit terrible just just tear that game would be so much better if they took out every single monster and item and challenge quest so what reward remove them are you missing like experience rewards or like cosmetics or party members it's literally just experience and money in a game in which you are drowning in experience and money okay xeno blade one and three i thought of two has

it xeno blade one literally has a feature that you can turn on and you won't earn xp until you decide to bank it because it's so easy to over level in that game oh yeah like uh last story had that too i think something so i feel like it had something with like like banking xp or some similar bit yeah and also the the the side quests that i'm describing to skip are literally mmo level side quests of fucking kill fork crabs and bring me back their meats and then you get the experience from killing the crabs skipping those has made it a much better experience i noticed that on your on that screenshot you did not install x yeah because you can't it's not on the switch you did not dust off your we you i i i'm not sure if i even bothered to pack my we you when i moved

it's it's still in the fucking i i may have thrown it away uh yeah nah man i'm i you know there's a there's a save for something that that i might care about on mine i'm i'm i'm not i'm not losing that or by access to um wonderful 101 got ported yeah uh huh uh yeah yeah uh nintendo world yeah nintendo world yeah luigi's mansion the five player game the luigi's mansion minigame and with the asymmetric i i believe in in terms of shit that is still stuck there it's literally the zeno blade x and star fox

i i think that's it and like people want star fox ported without those features anyway so yes like hey zeno blade chronicles x was a really cool game that i might have enjoyed except at all of its interface was on the we you game pad and there was no way to play it without the we you game pad so i said i'm not going to play this game that was my strong intense stance with the we you which is if it does not let me use the pro controller i'm not going to play it and i was not disappointed by that stance at all um yeah i think like splatoon was the only thing that like i kind of got used to but still like you know because uh the the the paint coverage and then running around in that

like multiple times exo primal yo what's up did you play exo primal i can't play anything i'm gonna fucking i'm on the coast but they had the thing the the they had earlier weeks with it um i played about an hour and a half exo primal exo primal is strange it is really really strange um it controls and feels a lot better than i was expecting it actually controls like a fairly good um well put together like third person shooter slash action game um and fighting rafters and dinosaurs liquid dinosaurs is actually is actually pretty fun um there's a there's five suits you can play in the in the test that are fairly diverse there's five more in the full game at least um but i think that it's core game mode might be trash oh like i'm gonna reserve

i'm gonna reserve judgment until the game actually comes out but the game mode that you have in the uh play test or whatever it's called is like you run around and you're racing another group of five to kill dinosaurs as fast as you possibly can and uh you're you're doing the same objectives like you you have to kill all the dinosaurs here and then you race to this part of the map and then you do that and when you finish your objective it'll tell you if you're slower or faster than the other team and you can see little like silhouettes of where the other team is at okay and the reward on this is that whoever finishes first gets to start the pvp section of the gameplay faster so the main pvp here is literally like 5v5 team deathmatch but you're trying to grab all these cylinders to

get up to like a hundred like a pseudo capture the flag but you're getting items uh and whoever finishes killing the dinosaurs first gets to start collecting those early so if you're losing you'll start the pvp with them already be like 35 to 100 um that is unique okay and the the pvp feels like a more normal kind of overwatchy first like third person shooter thing of like the bionic commando multiplayer right right okay yeah it doesn't have the swinging um what's the team sizes again 5v5 okay and the the the issue that i ran into is uh i think the i think the multiplayer pvp wise could actually stand on its own it seems like kind of almost kind of anarchy range-ish it seems kind of fun i don't know if it's the best thing in the world but it seems cool

and i think the dinosaur killing is also pretty fun uh in particular there's some cool events where they drop in just literally a million lost raptors on you and it like destroys all the buildings because they're just crashing into the earth my issue is that um once you hear the very first the other team is killing the dinosaurs more quickly you need to pick it up you're gonna lose there's nothing to stop snowballing and i think the idea is that people who are really good at pve are gonna get through that part faster but if you're really good at pvp you can catch up but that's not the case because the people who are really good at killing dinosaurs are also excellent at killing other players so out of all the games that i played um every time i was in the

lead at the very beginning we won conclusively and every time we were behind at the very beginning we lost conclusively and what happened was after a few of those i noticed that the instant you started to lose within like one minute people would just drop okay because they knew they were gonna lose because there's no comeback mechanic at all sounds like the moba issue a bit um that does so but like if you if you uh do amazingly in the pvp uh in the dinosaur section and then you get wiped in the pvp section like you lose it's it's determined like the the dinosaur section is just prelude right it's not like it's uh yeah adding together your score here plus your score there or something okay no it's it's literally just the

appetizer to the real meat which is pvp huh which is strange because i think the dinosaur part is way better than the pvp part i mean maybe like i'm trying to think of like like by splitting it into like those two sections that's a an odd flow of events maybe if there was like all of it together where there was like five a team of five in a room with another team of five and then there's dinosaurs and you can get in each other's way while you kill the dinosaurs or each other that's what i thought it was gonna be yeah that's a bit more like i thought it was like a sabotage the other team while you're killing dinos right pvp ve which is what the game calls itself actually yeah um now okay most important question is uh now that you've had hands on it would it still

make sense if this was a product that shipped with regina on the cover absolutely especially since dino crisis has no consistent aesthetic at all i'm not sure how familiar you are with that but like dino crisis one is a very dark survival horror dino crisis two is a sunny action game with points dino crisis three is a shitty space horror with like 3d movement like there's no consistency behind dino crisis at all other than the fact that you shoot raptors so put her in an armor mecha suit and just say this is what she's up up to now yeah uh the game is weird it feels like it comes out of the same place that all of those esports attempts came out of like umbrella chronicles and all that it's much much better than all of those because it controls well and it

feels good to move around and it looks cool but i i don't know about that core game mode and if that's like the main main gameplay i don't think many people are gonna really actually like it our engine right yeah i think everything is now yeah okay well i mean step one to any of these weird new things is like does it feel fun to play to move around and fight right yes it does um you know babelans fall obviously like when that question falls short the rest of the questions you have are not even worth asking um there's also a couple things that like are a little annoying to me like there's a melee focused guy that like a katana user basically um and like he's got a cool dash that knocks people back and he's got a combo and all that but his his moves are actually pretty

limited like he's got a three hit combo a dash and a uppercut and that that's it like it seems seems closer to what you would get out of edf than anarchy reigns okay so it's a melee focused character but the game is not designed to be melee focused therefore it doesn't seem like that's an afterthought yeah all right yeah that's that's that's i'm i'm interested to keep taking a look at it but i don't think it's gonna set the world on fire especially like they need to put a comeback mechanic in there because there's currently no way to actually catch up hmm yeah i i mean i can imagine a a test design that had again everything together where you know the two teams were also being swarmed and um i don't know maybe there maybe there was just too much that could go wrong with

that too many ways to like stomp someone out or make it even worse of a snowball but um yeah i i guess i i'm curious to see what the like dev like walkthrough intention would be for what a comeback would be if you are starting out and and and getting swarmed um when you play the other thing is that like genuinely every time i got to the pvp part of it i'm like i would much rather have just kept fighting increasingly large amounts of dinosaurs hmm comeback mechanics are an interesting thing because they are um something that were introduced to a lot of modern fighting games as a means of like keeping um a newer player interested instead of making them want to quit if they felt like there was nothing they could do

at this point uh and then the idea of course being that like okay well if the dominating player gets access to their comeback mechanic then you know they should be able to to do the same um and it's it's kind of wild because like when i remember we first saw ultras in street fighter four and it was like what the fuck that did most of your life like yeah was too much you can make one mistake and lose most of your life like why would you do that in a game like street fighter that's about these exchanges of decisions you know and um yeah and then you kind of see like okay optimized play will be a situation where this game is like three touches right four touches perhaps uh even and um in some cases the best the best characters on a cast will be like two

touch characters uh then you can make a game like samurai showdown where it's designed around the idea that i get to delete around you get to delete around there's one round of like proper combat that we actually have to fuss over yeah you know and i was like okay if you design around this concept i it works really well um but when you take that into other genres i mean i i don't know what like mobas do but like you've talked about how people will just immediately quit out when things are going badly because what's the point you're locked in for 45 minutes you know is there a designed solution to this that matches in exo primal are like seven minutes long they're super fast okay they're super super fast because i just like i'm like maybe that's what any design decision

that you come up with to be like okay well what if things are going badly but you could do this to like slingshot you back right um what kind of rubber band would you put in place that wouldn't feel like shit to people who are doing really well and also you know make it so that it's not a pointless match from like a couple uh one minute it you know it's it's yeah every every match that i played was a complete fucking landslide in one way or the other it's just like uh that doesn't really uh i don't know like it's not like i was getting into matches where my team was so far behind that the other team was starting like halfway up the clock on like 50 out of 100 items in the pvp section and i'm like i'm not gonna quit but i can fucking easily see why somebody would

because unless you're like twice as good as the other guys in the pvp you're going to lose okay yeah no it's it's it's it's the kind of thing that like it'd be fun to think about you know a case where if we're both simultaneously fighting dinosaurs and we're gonna fight later you know like maybe you have something where like if i cross a certain threshold first it's going to send a big boss of some kind to your side as and you're the losing team so like my reward is i get to like fuck you up with this bigger boss but you know maybe if you overcome that boss the reward is really good and that'll you know push you forward so you get like you know maybe you can kind of like pull and push so that it's not a complete comeback rumber band

but there's a hump you have to overcome but if you do you get a reward for that that'll get you back in the fight you know like it's a kind of fun thing to to to think about but um i don't want to play a game if the most if most people are making a call within you know the first fucking uh so and then immediately i have been i've been informed that there was a combat mechanic that i forgot about the losing team gets a gets to play as a dinosaur um okay the reason i forgot about that is that every single game that i was on the losing team somebody grabbed the dinosaur popped it and was killed within 10 seconds so like yeah i i guess i guess there is a comeback mechanic i see but if the if your team sucks and that's why you're losing i don't think it actually

evens it up at all gotcha okay can't just anyone can grab it i guess and just waste yeah whoever whoever just gets it gets it which means it's always the worst person all right i know i know there's uh there there's at least a couple people i know that actually really really enjoyed it and played a shit ton of games on it so maybe i'm like the idiot but my experience with it in terms of playing with other people was pretty negative the actual game itself seems cool if very strange but actually playing with teams of people on the sunday that it was available and people just giving up or just being so trashed that they might as well give up in either direction like i did not have fun in any of the games that i won i actually had more fun in the games that i lost

odd even though half of those games had people drop like immediately and it's and it's gonna require like you can't play you're not playing with bots right like you're playing games that require 10 people connected and and for for every every match right it can you do any sort of like single player content or or is it just like not right now yeah okay and it doesn't look like you will be able to either it's very very strongly multiplayer focused pushed against multiplayer and co-op and pvp okay uh all right what's what's really strange is that when you load in one match it puts you and the other team like facing each other like gambit and destiny so you can switch out your suits while some ai man tells you a bunch of

bullshit about why you're fighting dinosaurs it just seems like a totally unnecessary step uh what's gambit and destiny oh gambit and destiny remember we uh pvp pve pvp pvp whatever player versus environment versus player uh destiny is like horde mode okay uh but two teams are racing and every now and then uh a player will be able to invade the other team as a as a like ruin their day kill them from behind to to delay them okay uh gambit is definitely not perfect it has issues in it um personally i think this is even saying that i think this game would be much more interesting if it was just gambit if if the if you just had the ability to go and just attack the other team while they're fighting dinosaurs that's i mean that

sounds fun on paper right i'm i'm i'm i like like you know interesting asymmetrical uh functions and you know games like that that sounds cool but uh yeah okay uh so yeah that's exo primal again just to get the book in there uh and to answer people's questions i did not get to fight the big dinosaur with the enemy team and i never got to be the dinosaur to which i'm i guess i'm a little frustrated because i know there's people who blew their whole weekend into it and going i don't like i'm not giving it a chance like i played it for 90 minutes and was just kind of bored i'm not sure how much more i should have given it is the beta still open no it's it's it's weirdly specific okay it's sign up with your capcom id and it's only available for these 12 hours on these dates

72 hours and it reads like a wish list of shit that has this podcast has been whining and complaining about for fucking years now essentially um i mean i really do i'm looking at it and it's like just about just about everything i wanted to happen happened and there's now fewer things that i want that have not happened than there are the other way around my list of things i want from fighting games is down to like the shortest it's ever been because we're fucking we're going and we're at it's yeah it's everybody gonna got what they wanted it with one very bizarre notable exception absolutely and we're gonna get there um i that i happened to catch live and it was hilarious because the memes of squidward looking out you know the memes of

ant vivian and the sisters coming together and just like celebrating or it's real like everyone you know has looked around japan has has finally said okay 2022 is the year we make contact we we have decided that you're you're bickering you're bitching you're moaning you're spamming up the chat every time we try to say anything about a game with the word rollback we don't want to hear that shit anymore we're sick of the word rollback fuck it everyone's getting rollback right so i didn't i didn't get that feeling actually like uh i feel like that decision was actually made at arc system works like a while ago as they started just going through the the roster yes i'm i'm i'm dramatizing for fun but of course the decisions to make these things go forward we saw them come through on the

products that came out first that were able to be built with it integrated but um any games that are not old enough to emulate that are more modern running on like unreal or any engine that requires you to retrofit rollback in a more aggressive way are very difficult because you know i mean not to do the whole thing again but essentially um if your game is not built to run like extra threads of its game logic without um like that are not just on both sides of the connection and that don't have any graphics being rendered essentially uh you're gonna have a really hard time i know that um you know over at uh over at arc sys like when it came to like you know what to do with strife in a lot of cases that again the default out of the package unreal is not

built in such a way that it's going to allow you to uh just get those extra and that extra third thread going so they had to from scratch like basically do the entire thing and build it up in such a way that it would support rollback so games that rolled out that not didn't consider this you know it's a very expensive and complicated procedure that being said that doesn't matter when it like this is we're going on again 2009 2010 when this problem was first identified and introduced so as much as i feel bad when a game is like hey we didn't plan for this it's like yeah but you had no excuse to not plan for it when you know what let's say you say you started five years ago we knew this was a problem five years ago you didn't this was these games came out all after that

but if you you know unless your game started development in 2008 there's no real excuse to just pretend you never heard about this stuff so um a ton while harana's over here telling you that it had rolled back the whole time what the fuck you're talking about well so that too even has its place where it's like as you can see what because code mystics has done a really great job with the king of fighters games and they've shown off and explained exactly how it works and they've shown off that you can have um you can basically have your uh delay you can have games that are a hybrid of delay based and rollback based and you can increase one or increase the other um and then of course the input that you have that increases delay as well will help for smoother matches but

you know be less responsive when you play so it seems as if like in those cases like yeah harana's and and we've seen badly implemented rollback before and there's a lot of cases where they're like no this is rollback and it's like yes but it's not working it doesn't matter if it is three it doesn't matter if it has it a name what matters is that it doesn't work you don't feel it you're right street fighter also was like oh no we're doing it we have rollback and it's like no this feels terrible what's happening here you know and like it's like oh well people are saying rollback but what they really mean is good yeah like it's like street fighter five yes it did have rollback but then as soon as the match started one player would be one or two frames off and then that amount

would increase as the match went on so that by the end of a longer match it would desync entirely but still try to roll back to a neutral state that doesn't exist yes that's rollback but it's poorly implemented so the end result doesn't matter all this to say that they want it working they want it good that's that's the thing like marvel infinite had it working then yeah we went backwards so where are we at we got street fighter is gonna have all right the marvel infinite good shit so street fighter is safe in my heart well here so so so evo announcements dropped i mean first one and i'll check this out because it's pretty cool arcade one up has been doing these little private arcade cabinets you can buy small made for if you don't have the real estate

to put a giant full-sized cab up you can get one of these smaller ones that's you know almost like the size of like a bigger laptop and then it just kind of come like up off the ground up to like chest height um fun stuff and they finally announced marvel 2 so that's cool that's a really fun game to have uh an arcade one up for um i definitely support that as a uh you know arcades are dead but there's a specialized company that's that's doing them and they're doing them with space in mind because if you are a part of the cabinet club you're probably either kind of insane or like yeah no you're definitely insane still have an arcade cabinet or you're cool you've worked out some crazy deal with your your uh your significant other or your roommate for why this ridiculous

aggressive space killer is in your house uh but these are not that so um marvel 2 available now on arcade one up that's great um persona for arena ultimax told us when it first came out a while ago that in the summer they would drop the rollback update it has now dropped so they delivered on that promise and i've gotten word i haven't been able to touch anything since i've been out but i've gotten word that it's good i see you know so i mean strives netcode is excellent so i feel confident that anything out of arc system works that they are going to add this their own version of homebrew netcode to is likely no why are you shaking your head why are you shaking your head it's on the publisher it's the publisher is the money is what determines whether they're going to

take a look at it and do that or not right no no no i'm saying arc system works development if they are going to put it in i expect it to be good okay i'm not the decision ahead of time yes yes yes um and in this case like zbz i don't i'm not worried so in this case it seems as if like you know the decision was made like too late for the game to launch with it but once the decision is made it seems like it's going to be implemented properly yes that that is that is that is what we were looking at hopefully um so yeah they had to keep explaining to atlas over and over that rollback netcode did not allow people to actually stream the game that they could still ban people from streaming the game it would just be to have a play it and then atlas eventually capitulated

but if they have good connections that'll mean that they'll be able to stream it to other people at the same time no shut up shut up atlas i'm so tired of you we need bad connections anyway um ultimax i'm literally talking about how mad i am atlas with page last night i proposed nothing just sitting there getting mad at atlas for being stupid stegosaurus uh then uh a new fighting game was teased called umbral core which is a really funny name because my brain just immediately says umbrella core and it's like no it's umbral core that's like that weirdly enough makes me think of like a fucking final fantasy thing really it's god damn that is a not that's a for a name that is so strange that is actually like

very similar to a lot of other stuff okay um i mean essentially it's an indie fighting game that showed off it has like you know one stage in one character so they kind of just gave you a look at what they're doing the trailer more or less kind of introduced that it's going to be like you know a a dark and kind of a grim dark was used to describe the setting in the in the trailer for it oh i'm looking at byron the nero and um gameplay yeah so you know a new indie fighting game introduces itself and right away in the trailer it's like um we're we're gonna do we're gonna do uh best practices so uh one rollback of course to uh frame data in the game online training mode um hitbox is displayed all that stuff so it's like yeah it looks like they you know they're

there they get it um yeah i'll take a look at genuinely this genuinely looks like a bloodborn fighting game that they took the ip out of i mean it to me it looks like an episode of getting to fighting games like it just oh yeah you know uh straight to the to the woolly versus platform of course um so that's dope uh and then yeah we got confirmation that uh guilty gear strive shipped one million units worldwide and that's pretty that's that's a pretty big deal for them now here's a little golf claps well it's interesting because uh i saw some feedback where people were like wait that's it you know or i'm kind of like that's it myself well so the thing to understand is that um don't let the impossible bars that capcom set for their games reflect what

other fighting game companies are doing capcom going we want 2.5 million or it's a failure is some dumb shit when guilty gear has had a fraction of that be their lifetime sales on previous uh entries right guilty gear is used to selling hundreds of thousands of copies at best it's been that way the entire time even exerd right when you count sign revelator and rev2 um far didn't didn't hit that threshold you know and that's like three updates included so um no it's a pretty big deal for for a guilty gear game to hit that and they're you know obviously really happy about that shipping number of course the entrance as well to evo showed off that like this is also the premier fighting game right now um you know it's probably the last year of street

fighter five but strive was the final show it was the biggest uh entrance and was the final uh of the night so yeah it's it's cool to see it get that spotlight after being you know this kind of like side franchise that's really rad but not the big spotlight um you get to see a lot of guilty gear yeah there's a really a wholesome clip that estaban shoutouts to hold back to block filmed of um die uh diskay sitting in the in the audience while the entire crowd is screaming that is bullshit blazing still my heart is blazing and like singing the lyrics to smell of the game and he's just looking around like oh shit okay you know like he kind of had a really just he caught him right as he's like hey oh you know like like i love that that's it's nice to see fucking guilty gear

arrive you know very cool um you could see you could feel the smile through the mask um so good for them yeah it's all in the eyes yeah all in the eyes eyes get real big um then we got uh confirmation embrace rollback samurai showdown is getting rollback so man i'm gonna say it here yeah i want good netcode and good rollback for everything obviously sam show needed it it by far the worst it's it's the it's the most it's like the the worst case of this is so fun this is the only problem you know and boy oh you mean a game in which a single counter hit can just like outright kill me has bad reaction time oh you can't you cannot fuck around where yes exactly it is it is a game where there are less there are decisions that are are are fewer

and more crucial every single time you make one um and you know and and like yeah it just it was one of those ones that came out right in that like oh it's the new era but you were not paying attention and you weren't caring too much about how this would be received overseas and um and it had one of the worst online situations going on oh yeah no it's it's people you know again the tournament scene more or less arrived on using parsec on neutral servers to get their tournaments going and they jumped through as many hoops as they needed to because the game is that fun but and we're fucking we're back we're in there so yes that is coming um dear god uh uh i'm i'm i'm very happy about that i'm very happy that you know the fucking game is great it deserves it

here you go you can give it another chance at life in fact something that's going to be interesting is like all these games getting it now that like rollback not being in there almost like gave an excuse to be like okay i don't have to worry about like playing this game getting good at it or even focusing on it too much it was it was an it was a means of filtering the amount on your plate you know you could just look at fucking grand blue and just scrape it off the plate but now it's back on the menu well no no no no no you scrape it back don't pick it up out of the trash yet you put you leave it there you do not put that back on your plate okay but no matter how much money they offer you there's a lot that you can put back on your plate right

it's not just about rollback though so samurai showdown is getting that meanwhile king of fighters 15 is getting cross play another feature that is desperately needed before it was about these about sony microsoft you know trying to get them to play nicely with each other but we've seen the examples we've seen power rangers was able to negotiate this why can't bigger more established fighting game franchises do so and now we get that so KOF in particular a game where yeah you want as many people not worrying about the platform choices on this is possible because it's not going to do gangbusters numbers like if you have a handful of people online on on pc a handful of people online on on playstation you know they're gonna

have a rough time getting decent matches and you're also trying to match skill levels and such you want the player pool to expand as much as possible i mean i have a i have a stupid question here oftentimes consoles can be popular based on their region off like sony's consoles have been more popular in japan for example and the xbox is more popular in the americas uh what console right now is most popular in mexico i don't know probably whichever but whichever one it isn't desperately needs that crossplay if they want to keep playing king of fighters i imagine it would be pc um now the thing of course is um this brings a whole other uh issue to the table in that console versions of games that

running that run off of unreal automatically come baked in with input delay and um until like that is fixed by unreal there's very little that can be done about that so just about every fighting game recently that came out on consoles and and steam the steam version is going to be the one where you get the least amount of input delay and it allows you to be a bit more responsive and if you're playing crossplay with uh with one notable exception uh on on playstation on ps5 i think the new guilty gear patch has the input latency down to like 2.5 it's so there's there's there's yeah there's they're starting to address that um i i want it to be done fixed on an on an engine level of course because then we don't have to you know worry about other games

being like like arxists can fucking run that magic but i don't know and trust in that that every other company is going to be able to do so with their games you know well here's just hoping unreal engine five fixed because they're not going to be going back to fix shit in four um yeah so that's that's that's it the uh but but still crossplay great feature um great for especially like new players and um um you know intermediates anyone who's like at that level where you want to fight people that are closer to your skill level you want to get more matches you want to get better matches you need a larger player base to reach into so uh that's a big deal for them as well um they also announced um fucking i like okay so you look at the guest characters in previous

games and it's like yeah how maru naka ruru the ambassadors of samurai showdown totally they showed up in capcom versus snk are they showed up in in the the last kof no questions there the most popular too darly fucking dagger is getting that third slot my weird pick my weird offside pick is getting slot three what that makes sense actually because it's like classic classic weirdo i'm as the rep i can't like i'm super surprised by that that is a fucking awesome pick um i'm glad that you know it's she's liked well enough to be able to get that spot because like i said the first two are ambassadors you know what i mean um that's like street fighter characters are guesting in in oh tec n let's hope uh ken yeah ryu makoto you know like wait what

or even or even ryu chun li mako uh uh alex or fucking yang you know like just dolls him what okay um if she i i hope that i i'm looking forward to seeing how they translate those buttons into the game uh i doubt they will have to put the sword down mechanic but it would be really cool if they did uh in the meantime i do it as an animation in her super could be could be uh but yeah that's a really that's a really fun that's a really fun pick so um you know i don't know man i there's there's definitely this possibility of yes team woolly waifus um with uh good old darlie dagger venessa uh and ash crimson so i'm i'm excited we'll see how we'll see how this this this synergy plays was he back oh ash is back oh i thought he was

fucking erased from history oh no no no the uh the the collapsing of verse brought back many from the dead including ash crimson shut shut your mouth i hate it bovayesh uh oh so that's that's what's going on over there skull girls they showed off it's funny cuz skull girls is like you know um i mean that's pad is that old fighting game from a million years ago it's had rollback forever it's had all those features you've wanted forever so what are they announcing well black dalia uh they showed off another trailer of her gameplay so one of the cool characters from that list that giant list of cool characters list still going back to it all these years later they're still going back to the big list of cool characters from that kickstarter and marie the final boss the skull girl is also

announced to be coming soon uh which is cool i hope they didn't show off any gameplay and i hope that is indicative of the fact that they're doing more than just converting her like you know boss thing to a playable form because you know she she didn't have like a ton of original moves just like a bunch of borrowed stuff in there um i would hope that she's getting a you know a full unique thing and the amount of the effort they put in on every other character as well seems like they wouldn't skimp out here either so i wouldn't worry about it too much yeah um playable marie uh coming coming through the the skull girl that's good that's good i like that i was it portrayed as like the start of a new season with marie coming back or something i didn't get that impression

i got that more just like second on core and mobile are being pushed together now like the logo for skull girls now says second on core and mobile you know like they're it's more like they're with hidden variable in the picture developing um for the you know for both cases they're pushing the both versions of the game um but it's it's kind of like we're we're coming back to life with another season of content you know so that's very cool black dalia is got all the stuff you'd expect from a like uh uh you know 20s prohibition flapper style era character you know the long cigarette in the holder fallen back onto the big lounge shays and big fucking uh uh you know uh patriot style gun as well very cool um they then announced that uh dragon ball fucking fighters

is getting rolled back so the the way that that was announced was absolutely hilarious did you see the full announcement um i saw i saw the clip where the producer went up on stage and basically just mentioned it uh in segment okay so the the the producer she she comes up on stage and she's with her translator and she's talking at length about how they feel the game is in it's good the it's best state so there's no plans on more characters and no plans on any more balanced patches and then the translator says all of that in english and then she goes on at length and even and people it was very i couldn't understand a single thing and then she gets all the way to the end of it and just says the word roll back and the crowd starts to go nuts that's like everyone's

just waiting to hear that word and and she finishes and then she's laughing and then the translator goes okay so we all know what she said but i'm still gonna translate anyway okay yeah and so then he translates the whole statement okay now asterisk roll back there's also ports coming to current gen roll back implemented in the ports for uh ps5 and xbox sex and the uh pc re-release so um i'm guessing it's going to be a game of the year kind of edition with all the dlc included yeah i believe it's needed that for a while now so it makes sense because like there's a solid fucking what um you pull that game up and you don't have any of the seasons dlc on them and it's yeah like less than half of the i think a third of the roster is the original launching roster and then two thirds

are dlc characters right so it's needed the the the full you know championship edition whatever you want to call it thing um yeah three seasons of dlc it's a lot so that's uh it's nice that we're gonna you're gonna get that bundled but it's not backwards patching rollback for um ps4 or versions of the game so now they say that you can upgrade uh the versions probably free or some minor fee with each respective one that you own i i suppose yeah uh i'm fascinated by what's going to happen to that game because there's a lot of people who can't feasibly play it or play it for a while and then stopped um like i haven't played that game since like the fucking first season it might as well be a completely different fucking game at this point so i retweeted

doesn't have to die a dirty death in a ditch you know dragon ball fighters is probably my like despite the fact that i stopped playing it relatively soon it was probably my favorite fighting game overall and i don't even really care for 3v3 it's just like everything about it is so fucking good and the roster is so fucking perfect but every time i went online i had it's just made me sad and you know i was watching those top eights and i was watching all the way here at the end of the of the balance of the game uh 16 still getting those dunks in and i'm like god yes like it's still added goku's in the dlc so that he could dunk more goku's yo wow just just still getting those dunks in i'm glad he's you know i'm happy to see it when

right so um which you know it's it's it's getting played out let's not lie but every once in a while one of those will still get me so for example they just announced the sequel to crypt of the necro dancer is rift of the necro dancer and i'm like okay that's cool i like that they also simultaneous to some like new necro dancer dlc that came out of just a little bit ago sure yeah also in like the dlc is an early access which made me really confused made me feel like necro dancer had not come out mm-hmm but also this is now the third necro dancer game because the switch version had a completely new campaign for the zelda stuff yeah um it it that they they kept working on it man like they fucking you know like that that that thing kept

a just defend is like no you can still be a coward but just be a good a really good times coward and you get a little bit of life back um indeed healing healing is wild on the rewards for that uh so they announced that that then uh tech n went up we saw the tech n grand finals and a new project has been announced but it's not confirming what it is there was no number all there was it's nice dick the tech n game it's just a little scree a little video of old kazia dumping his dad off the cliffside and smiling from back in the day and then that goofy ass poly gone smile polygonal smile gets interrupted with a modern looking kazooia and it just says get ready so um i'm i'm curious because while the implication the timing first

of all would be right for an announcement for eight right there are certain games that are at the end of their life cycle and it would be right around now where you'd expect to hear about tech n eight you'd expect to hear about a new nether realm game and you'd expect to hear about a street fighter six right so those cycles are kind of right on time as they were now tech n uh it might not be a tech n eight this could be tech n tag three for all we know it could be uh they also and the thing is they also just said um tech n seven is getting more updates they're like a lot of like dragon ball said all right we're done street fighter is like hey we're done tech n says we got more so that's crazy that's wild that they still got more coming to tech n seven definitely unexpected

all this time in but tech n runs on its own um kind of timeline though and that like you know when you yeah you're looking at seven the the arcade version of seven um you know there was a long period of time before that different planet from now mm-hmm it was a there was a long time before that showed up and then akuma was there you know so if they just i don't think they're gonna do that again certainly but um there's always that that fucking salvage of an idea because reggie brought it up the other day he's like yo tech n cross street fighter what are we doing and i'm like kill it kill it in your heart just murder it don't allow it to any air don't let it breathe i mean i feel it's fairly clear the tech n cross street fighter exists and it's called

tech n seven then there will never be the right window of opportunity to actually put this thing out with six on the horizon and whatever this is but i still say season of street fighter characters in a tech n game is a very reasonable salvage you know just take it the way that dener alive did and and get uh a season of guest characters from the crossover franchise and you can celebrate that put one or two stages out that are crossover stages and everyone will be like oh shit and we're good we know that tech n gives characters the respect and builds them up and gives them a really good move list that's the best way to just scratch that itch and get that conversation out of the way you know with the crossover um yeah i whatever the whatever the fuck they're announcing

i mean that it'll hopefully have the good the good rollback at this point if we're if we're jumping uh no no tech n will be the last tech n eight is and harada harada will fight someone in the street over it like that's what it's gonna come to i mean we've seen he's willing to go and shake the commentators like tasty steve is like when the announcements drop so um anyway something's coming in tech enterant world and we will find out uh shortly i suppose uh then the then of course comes the the conversation of like all right are we just grabbing 50 characters and moving them forward or or what what are we doing anyways uh tech n's got that street fighter six they showed off and announced a couple of things big ones of course we got to see kimberley the character

that was teased at the in the screen in the background of the first trailer we saw who is now we can tell uh a bush and Ryu style guy replacement so so i had no idea what she was gonna be and i i didn't really super care for her design and now that i see that she's bush and Ryu and that the red is the fucking that like her version of guys gi yep like wow she's great it's the new it's the new ninja now does this mean that guy is not showing up of course it does you know that's exactly what that means but you saw that you know that you saw the fucking list um but she is going to be the your your your guy analog yeah uninvited i saw i saw the weirdest video uh from some fighting game twitter that was like comparison of kimberley's moveset to zeku

and i'm just sitting there going like fucking why why are you not comparing her to guy her moves are obviously more like guys no it's it's both it's it's a it's a it's a it's a it's both because guy zeku has similar to guy moves as well he's a teacher they all they all share that the bush and Ryu style zeku has the two styles he switches between but it's you're seeing mirrors of both in in what she's doing um but definitely the the you know the signature run and stop and options the tatsu the azuna drop um yeah uh the bush and love guy but the the the bush and Ryu style has evolved quite a bit over the years and then you know what instead of uh instead of smoke bombs she uses paint cans perfect sick super fun i love that yeah i gotta say i really want to

give kimberley a hand for zeku didn't do it and guy didn't do it but they have their weird upwards hurricane spinning kick that's like up t like it's a perfect t and she finally has like a fucking finishing kick at the end of it knock you back down god lord thank you um yeah and shout outs to uh aniris kinones who's uh voicing her and is uh someone i recognize from twitter voice actor that got got that kimberley role as well very cool um that's a fun new that's a fun new cast that's a fun new drop i am happy when something like this happens and it's not the like this is there's uh hmm okay there's two categories there's combat kids and then there's caliber kids oh you feel me

combat kids and caliber kids she is a combat kid absolutely she's not a caliber kid the cat i can you explain that because i feel like some people that's gonna fly over their head but you have perfectly nailed it when it came time to create a new generation of fighters in mortal combat they created the combat kids cassie cage uh kungjin takeda um and jack and uh jackie bricks yeah and uh they are new characters that are descending from existing ones they were either students of or direct kids of them and their movesets were cool like new versions of the things that we knew and like ultimately they carried them into the franchise as like fun new characters that everyone liked you know um when the when soul caliber

five came six five five came out and did this a similar thing they replaced a number of staples with uh the kids that were kind of stand-ins for them and they were in many cases inferior replacements so um you know your well patrocolos was your setsika replacement but like there was you know not tacky and uh who wasn't as good as tacky and what didn't have as good of a design as tacky and uh uh you know not sofitia and uh it was just lame sofitia you know or or um other one for that matter and a number of the other one yeah and a number of the uh kassandra uh and a number of the cast essentially were like it's like oh look it's it's not killik and you're like well it's and it's not stand it's not it's it's not doing its own thing enough as a like well this is

going to be a complete replacement it might as well have been a new costume so overall the new so the caliber kids were pretty much hated and were part of the reason why uh that game was not uh well liked uh i like i i played fucking uh you know zwei with his with his wolf man stand and i was just like off your playing a weird new thing but overall um when you make a new generation you want to have a combat kid you don't want to have a caliber kid you know every once in a while you do something too like if you go back to the days of third strike you go back to the days of street fighter three like uh yun and yang combat kids you know like similar to those two styles of gen similar to li but also doing their own thing unique enough and just good enough new characters

that everyone's like oh fuck that's cool i'm down with that um i i i mean remi is it's not a guile replacement but it's all these it's all you've got to go on but rem remi is like that is yeah i that that leans i don't understand i don't understand remi's existence at all remi remi kind of hits on that caliber kid side of the fence like he's hitting it i really i don't understand the purpose of remi at all he doesn't seem as interesting as the guys are placing and he's like a oh i can throw sonic booms of the charge motion in a game in which anyone can nullify it instantly like what the actual fuck very weird uh yeah so you know that's that's the thing is you got to be careful about it right not like it it it's a it's a thing that requires you to design

something call back to where they're coming from have enough unique personality going on and overall they should be they should feel like a fun continuation if that's what you're going for and not like an inferior replacement it really makes me feel that looking at the rest of the roster with a different like thought process in that i'm looking at uh i forget her name but the french girl that looks like abel um oh yes uh uh yeah right i forget yeah is she is she new abel like she ables protege like it's quite possible i i i don't i don't know i mean though at the same time like that's her name yeah though if you were to look at um uh let's say ed and then you saw falc you would think that they would have similarities when they have like none whatsoever outside

of just plot similarity you know they're they're part of that shadow lu clone system but like they're not at all move with us similar uh but she could be she certainly could be abel was originally supposed to be a little blonde girl so we could be going back in that direction um i still i still think that was a better design mm-hmm um techin is an interesting case of like from day one it's always been about the successors you know they've all they've yeah very consistently had a like um here's more here's marshal law now here's forest law you know here and then fuck that no here's marshal law for six more games here's eddy gordo uh now here's christy montiero no fuck that here's eddy gordo again yeah but then also um what's her face fucking

town sequence don't forget anyways what the fuck was going on with that trailer showing off characters that weren't planned to come out for over a year like Jesus lord when the sun comes out and fucking kody and guy kicking down the fucking wall and you're like what are you announcing them are they here are they what do we do yeah all right anyways those trailers were great they were they were it was almost as if uh a lot of money was spent on them that should have been spent on the game itself yes interesting it's almost as if the budget originally was going to go towards the game and then for some weird reason the money weird reason ended up going towards those cut scenes instead anyway that is strange um

they also announced the return of the fucking foot fetish they're really oh like man it's it's it's tarantino esk they like they okay so i want to say they accidentally tripped over the foot fetish when they first designed the character right someone that was an accident yeah someone on the team probably knew and then went like yeah let me just try to you know just slide this in there and then they're like oh yeah that's cool taekwondo let's go put it up and people were like mm-hmm taekwondo has a lot of kicks in it right so her feet should be bare right okay good got it and then the entirety of street fighter five came and went and it was like yep okay and then for some reason menat

and turn on the dlc you know so sick so um yeah at a glance uh it's like okay that's gonna be rounding out the i guess the the season there's some new stuff coming um way less like roger play on the move set but the breakdown um don't care for roger so i'm happy about this the breakdown on the on the move list video was pretty you know interesting i guess like i'm not sure so this thing is i'm not sure like how bridget players feel about how the kit came together but i definitely i'm looking at it like it feels pretty reduced from what i remember you know but i'm but i again i just i i've never been like a full-on richer player enough to know whether or not it like that is less um there was the all the the you know setting up the yo-yo on the return the

mix-ups with that there's the um uh what looks to be like a really dirty sort of like uh the the the dash into the yo-yo and then you can jump to create mixes and stuff so uh some fun stuff there um and i guess and here's the thing too like so i haven't played uh the arcade mode and but have you heard anything about this i've heard a little but it's hard to tell because people are arguing about whether or not what's a good ending or a bad ending and i haven't done myself so i can't confirm i wish i could have just like i was at home at this point to fucking sit and play through it apparently so it seems like Bridget's trans at this point and that's interesting that's cool i'm i'm i want to see how it like is handled you know in game um that's a like a character that i guess

my my first impression of it is that um on the surface Bridget was always about like i get the the conversation on gender has updated drastically in the last decade or two yeah you you could say that since it's original uh debut on the scene right and so and so when she originally was in uh you know back in the the old days like that was i guess reflective of where the conversation was at that point in time um and i know as well though that like part of the way the story played out then was uh very much like a definitive like it was a journey about like um accepting you know her gender at that point in time so i don't know how it plays out going forward into this case i mean i don't think they like if it whether whether it comes together

in a way that is like smooth or or not i think they kind of looked at it what like as a character that represents this discussion um let's have you know Bridget be emblematic of this group of people that are like you know relevant in today's day and age and reflect well i mean even even if like the the the best part about this is we get to relevancy of like a trans person one strive mm-hmm so like straight up oh yeah well like here we go oh it's like it's almost it almost exists in this weird reality in which there were like five characters in the background but dude like and then Bridget comes out because well perfect timing you know trans and queer representation in the fgc has been like i mean through the fucking roof like it's been for years now it's been like more

and more of that for sure so i feel like there's a lot of examples where it's not even like it's the thing where it's like it's it becomes even like less notable just because there's that many like really good players that you know are but um it just seemed to line up so absolutely perfectly mm-hmm um yeah so that's one of those things where it's like okay Bridget's coming back and like that's that's the the the character's like sort of that's that's her plot her plot arc i have to again see how it sort of plays out in in uh the story and like the way they kind of go about it but it doesn't surprise me that this is uh this is kind of like what you would update Bridget to be given that like it's the crux of what Bridget's story has been about you know um yeah so i'll

take a look at that and and we'll see where it goes but ultimately i you know i think it's it uh seems pretty cool seems like a uh you know the the right way to play that and i guess um i'll see how it how uh it goes competitively i think uh i think her kit again like i said it looks a little light but i'm not sure because then again when i first saw a fucking gunman i thought that chaos who had the gun and i was like okay how accurate is this gonna be how much is it gonna zone on you how how often will it whiff because if that whiffs often enough then that's not gonna be a big deal oh fucking god damn it it it doesn't whiff especially if you drink the juice and roid up so um we're gonna have to see you know uh but yeah i'm i'm i'm happy that like Strive is fucking

about fighting games that happened over the fucking weekend because of the combination of evo and zeno blade 3 coming out i did not oh cracks me up so anybody who played zeno blade 1 recognizes the part where dunban looks at the two kids leave the fucking thing and it's fucking dbz and fucking samurai showdown walking into the distance and he's gripping his horribly maimed arm that's been replaced with the phrase delay 18 frames says once this heals boys and he's uh i think he's exer'd once this heals boys i'll be right out and then it freezes and says connecting and then player dropped and the video ends yeah as yeah exer'd is gonna be left in the dust that game is is oh well yeah i mean for sure because plus r is old enough that rollback

implementation is not as hard you know um yeah yeah eggs like it gets weird when it comes to things that are like strive is not a replacement for exer'd but branding wise it is you know and there are people out there that are like exer'd fans that play exer tournaments that are still just like holding it down for that series um but yeah it's just it just happens to be in that weird between phase now it's funny because i remember when exer'd dropped and there was a lot of hate for it because it wasn't plus r uh and then now people have come to love what exer'd is um and that happens with every generation with every fighting game 100 of the time it's unavoidable um i mean all i can say is like i hope that like fans will come to the to the rescue maybe on that

one but yeah i i i don't see i don't see the i don't see the i i i don't see there's being enough interest in that that they're gonna invest in pushing exer'd as a parallel product to try to convince you to buy strife instead you know um exer'd is fucking dead yeah well it's done it like it dead being the the state that it ends up in uh where dead game dead game discords will run their their events and parsecate and do what they can to get decent connections with each other you know but yeah that's where sam show was as well right so i gotta say i just reminded myself of the phrase dead game is like getting funnier to me every year as i see people like talking about multiverses and then just people all lowercase just dead game

and it's like velma op dead game and like it's not even out it's not even actually out um i can see a i can see a world a couple years from now not even a couple i can see a world in like one or two years from now where like there is a fully developed team of people that have made guilty gear exorth as a fan game that is a mod to strive that puts the like puts danger time back in the game puts shield back in the game and and you know uh you know just puts everything back to the way it was and uh uh even takes the time to put ikas back in the game i could see it i k is still not a thing huh too anyway yeah i mean ikas were cool but like what a waste of fucking money actually putting them in like you know it never happened

just make them fancy fancy ultras killer instinct it if you're gonna die anyway make it make it a fancy kill uh all right so that's fighting games um fighting games are now over here's what else is going on not a whole lot they nerfed bloodhound step yeah so woolly i gotta say i love that every single person who played elden ring had some variation of this happen where they beat the game and they're like man i sure do love mimicked here i sure do love or frostop i sure do love this i sure do love that and then as soon as you beat it it gets it gets nerfed down to like like a normal move like a good move but like still yep um i don't know how people responded to their versions of this i see no problem whatsoever with what they did yeah so uh bloodhound step is still very good

more than fine it's just not it's just not very good to spam over and over and over precisely which like as a really good dodge the most useful thing about it is it's initial you know yeah it's initial dodge anything after that is like yeah nerf it shorten it whatever no problem that you know it's like the i i like that first one um and really it's it's also like i know that this is like whatever some people are gonna be like some bullshit but it's about the feeling as well right i yeah like as someone who's just like i'm obsessed with like the flow of combat i really like the feel of it like and i care more about the flow and the feel than the mechanics in some cases that are like granular um a big cool side dodge makes me feel good when i do it um

tell me about its frame data after the fact and we'll see how that goes but the fact that it was good is kind of secondary to the fact that i could fucking stick and move and rotate around you and you know flow in and flow out like that was awesome i care way more about that feeling that i do about the actual properties so it just looks fucking cool and if it still looks fucking cool i kind of don't care if it's viable to to um use on an initial dodge great if you can't spam it no problem um yeah the other thing is that in addition to this they also significantly buffed quickstep which is the much more common version of bloodhound step quick roll got a huge buff as well yeah that's great yeah i was looking at it you look it looks like you roll maybe 20

further with light roll and there's videos out right now of fighting millenia in which with light uh equip load you can actually just fully dodge waterfile you don't have to sprint you don't have to unlock on interesting you can you can just roll it now so like the only thing out like if they to touch bloodhound step the one thing i would want them to do would be to fix the forced dandy step that it that it does because there's a weird thing to it where um if you are holding like let's say back or down and then you dodge away and then you are unlocked you dodge away and it'll do two bloodhound steps away from the enemy but if you are locked on that second one when you buffer it in will dodge them back towards the enemy and force you to do a

dandy step um i don't want that to be automatic let it be manual if i want a dandy step let me press down dodge and then up dodge to come back in right it's very much in your control there's no reason to force it to do the left right but it does for some reason only when you're locked on that's my that's my complaint about it is like unintended uh you know second step towards the enemy um yep that's other things that's always been an issue with the way their inputs are designed though like not necessarily the direction but they love queuing up fucking inputs in that system for whatever reason i solved it by unlocking at those moments and relocking after the fact but um there's there's some other stuff that was i kind of scrolled through it briefly um i'll give you

the so light roll is buffed quick step is buffed bloodhound step is nerfed uh great swords curve great swords and axes all got significantly buffed across the board you can roll faster after doing them their charge attacks are faster their jump attacks you can roll faster after them and then a shit zillion bugs got fixed bugs that yeah i've not noticed the the the um death bed dress being a weird thing where you roll a flail with it and you do damage to yourself looks like that got fixed found that organically in game for some weird reason the combination of the a stealth flail and the death bed dress when you charge it's r2 you hurt yourself uh the goofiest shit but um yep that and you know other other um whatever other more random uh bugs but nothing

significant content wise in terms of npc updates it seems like so uh there is one there's a hidden one oh did i miss it it's not it it's not in the patch notes um they made it so that there is an npc you can invade offline to uh finish vare's quest to get the the blood uh teleport after vare asks you to invade three people and then get blood of a maiden yeah yeah well now there's an npc you can invade instead of human players if you're playing entirely offline oh that is in the patch notes oh okay oh an offline invasion yeah took oh okay gotcha cool okay oh yeah i didn't think about that actually forced online quest yeah it was actually a massive pain in the ass for people that played the pc version with the cheap protection off offline

because you couldn't get to that area until late in the game um i guess once you do it the the the three times that it goes away you only have to do it the wants with this guy okay interesting um too bad you can't well the way i went through it and uh i couldn't get his set but yeah you know that happens uh yeah so that's the 1.06 um dropping uh some other things as well i caught wind of uh so i've i've talked a couple times about how sick it is that punch outs mike tyson's punch out for the nests uh 30 years later new tech was discovered let's wait all right they found out that if you wait for the camera flash you can beat the ball of bull charge if you wait for the bearded man to nod his head in the crowd you

can beat um a couple of different characters bosses in their perfect like uh like kill moments essentially um so punch out was a game that buried its secrets and didn't tell you about them till decades later what i want to see an interview with the director is how people found out about the camera flash unbelievable right so then of course it follows that super punch out would have the exact same shit in it so while punch out was a reignited and the scene got all into it because of this new tech that was found super punch out it was recently found and had a bunch of uh secret button prompts that you could do on the title screen with the second player controller to introduce a fucking versus mode and if you take a second controller and you hold down i want to say it

was like b y and start you pull up a menu that then goes into a little mac versus whoever player two is and you can do a fucking versus mode yes nuts it's super punch out unbelievable man so cool i i love these these deep decade long tripled at 330 your secrets soaking and then coming out later amazing it seems like it's a debug feature essentially you know uh that was in there because it also lets you like kind of just do a boss select um but i'm not unlocked but it was never known yeah and of course like if player two is playing as the bosses it's completely broken and unfair you know oh yeah there's there's not this is not a real viable thing um but it was there so even when the new punch out for the we got a versus mode you know it's like they already kind of had

they already had the bones uh laid out in the super nintendo game um so yeah well i'll tell you what i mean i saw the story and then and like barely like half an hour later i got a message from reggie who was just like yo looking into it you know so yeah we'll find out man but that's that's that's great and only for some reason only punch out has these crazy fucking 30 year secrets dropping um then a couple other things uh what was there there was an announcement that uh yeah sonic 3 of course no big no no big surprise coming christmas 2024 um that seems very unsurprising rather soon though no was something that does feel soon i feel like was there one was farther away than sonic 2 but

that was in the middle of covet yeah okay so that was my thought um uh oh no it's two years apart on both 2020 2022 2024 okay fair enough uh yeah cool we'll do that just getting older um can you confirm that idris will be coming back that's personally no but yes i i we shall see yeah um and then because why the fuck not live action packed man no i don't know no no thanks it's coming confirmed to be in development and by the same producer i guess as sonic to hedgehog so yeah why not fuck it who cares it never they're doing it anyway you can't stop them it doesn't have to make sense

to make them distinct similarly the game's design is not conducive for slower characters it can even be present in games where tanky characters uh have classes that are big or slow strong options can also be limited in quantity um more than other options but why does this pattern recur in games so basically it's uh it seems to be like why is there the the one tank or the two and not like the five dps speedsters that there usually is type of thing um uh because everyone's a fucking bitch and they don't know that the big body people are the best it's just appeal it's just i think it's just straight up design appeal the big body uh jesus christ the sun's in my fucking night give me a second the big body characters of the perceived unpopularity is

also an aesthetic bit everyone sucks powers they suck because they do not want big body that is it that is the end of the thought um design wise and player wise yeah and big body doesn't have to be grappler big body doesn't have to be uh rushed down for example the big body character in uh dnf that i'm playing crusader is keep away non grappler zoning i am a fucking full screen zoning tank you know it's you can be as original as you want but the perception is just generally that like smooth sleek you know smaller faster appealing characters can are gonna are gonna you know be more appealing to most people than like someone who just is like a hard dedicated this is their aesthetic you have to be into it or not type thing if you see a silhouette

for like a normal like buff shaped character person or whatever that could be anything you know that could be anything from tracer to soldier 76 to to reaper to you know half of or two thirds of overwatch but there's one Reinhardt and if you like Reinhardt you're gonna get your Reinhardt or you're getting the fucking bullshit it's garbage um dbz gave us two brolies so that's nice and 116 you know but yeah yeah cowardice essentially there you go there's your answer uh here's another one coming in uh words says hello holy loops and temkin scoops i like that um words here big fan of fighting games but i am terrible at them i'm incapable of doing

quarter circles so the obvious option would be to practice for muscle memory right tried this spent so many hours practicing that i wore the skin on my hands down and had to be sent to the hospital for grinding bloody paths into my hands apparently the repeated hours of just practicing motions was damaging after the 90th odd hour worst part is i still can't do them successfully i've also been a grinder in games to overcome my lack of skill level 99 on destiny island in kingdom hearts ground up to level two to 300 before leaving most of the open areas of dark souls etc etc etc all the time normally equal success but not so for fighting games if you have any advice for how to practice better or just not to be so shit it'd be appreciated thanks for

the weekly fun stuff words my unironic my unironic not joking around advice is that i would highly recommend that you seek out a mental health care professional to talk to about these issues because the only people i've ever heard of grinding their hands or knees or feet into dirt in something like this are people going through manic episodes which can be a hell of a lot more dangerous than just hurting your hands um anything that goes to the point of causing physical damage to you while playing the video game is going too far and should not be the case uh that is is yeah i i think you know if what pat is saying is on the money there that that is your that's that's too far that's going way beyond the uh what you should be expected to do because you're

trying to that's way beyond having fun with this that's getting to the point even if grinding is having fun the the if you're grinding and you're clicking or so and it's like a repetitive action that's not doing damage to your hands and what you're describing sounds pretty scary uh to be perfectly honest um now i wouldn't like my thought on that as well because that sounds like trying to you know use an arcade stick to get that going um i mean you could consider you could consider an alternative form of control that doesn't have that type of grind a hitbox absolutely wouldn't be that that uh a brutal and it's a simpler input of just going from one to and then the the button to get your your hadoken out but i don't know man i mean again like the levels you're describing

the amount you're describing i'm like is the solution to recommend an alternative form of control or is this just all going in a in a in a bad direction no matter what um please don't play fighting games until your hands hurt please don't do that in in terms of in terms of um uh compulsion or fixation or whatever you want to talk about um there's the obvious uh health risk which could be associated with time or general body use the uh on a more practical consideration that may uh speak to you a slightly more clearly is that if you're practicing something uh for 90 plus hours and not making progress you're not practicing it correctly and you at the very least for your own benefit in learning the skill need to back off and try and understand what is actually going on

just dulling down on bad habits to the point of physical injury isn't actually going to do you any good and will obviously harm you yeah so there's a saying don't train hard train smart right um if you are labbing in a fighting game and you're like not and you're doing like a a rote action that doesn't actually improve like what you're going to be experiencing when you're actually fight against somebody you can spend a lot of time doing something that's not actually that helpful um if like in a lot of cases too there's alternatives to just getting those motions out if if you're playing a game that doesn't require them whatsoever for example i mean depends on what you're what you find appealing about a fighting game but like if you're not attached to a particular

character or a particular style of play and you're willing to just try out the genre i've been playing a game like dnf duel as i've mentioned which doesn't require those inputs um you can do a special with a special button and an input uh for easier commands there's i mean obviously smash games have that but they can get more complex the better you get um but there are games that don't require what you're describing so you can also play games that just go in a different direction entirely if you find them appealing um there's a couple of options there that don't involve like picking Ryu and just doing a hadoken for 90 hours that's that's a really not a okay thing to do so hopefully this is helpful um and i don't know if you have people as well that are like fighting game fans

that play as well that you know or anyone that like you know because like another thing too is just kind of like messing around casually with people having fun you know and and not spending a full infinite time in the lab but just a couple games here and there touching buttons maybe not thinking about the imping doing a dp or whatever is a fun way to enjoy the genre um usually having a you know someone around or anything to anyone you can play with locally will go far in that regard too so like it you can have fun before you get perfect at doing that one combo in the lab you know in fact part of the reason why get into fighting games you know it's it's the name of it i've gotten flack for like what this is a terrible tutorial for the game what it says get into fighting games

but when i click on this i'm not getting an explanation of what's going on here and it's like well it's also kind of because i want to show people that like all you really got to do is boot the game up and just start doing things you know um there's much to be enjoyed about the process of just pressing buttons not knowing what's going on and figuring that out like piece by piece but um you know uh again 90 hours in a lab is is not necessarily what you have to do to get to that that enjoyment uh yeah all right and let's take one over here from um
