["Sailor Moon Theme"] Hello.
Wooly, you remember how I was covering e3 sucked ass yes, and we and like e3 died and we're like, oh yeah, I
Remember that there were
There were 16
Showcases between last podcast and today that occurred this week
Would you believe that covering as many of those
as I possibly could did in fact suck way more ass
than the old E3 system?
I covered 10, I think.
And while I was watching some of them,
other of them were happening.
So, and, and like, I was like, should I switch over to that?
And the universal response every time was, nah, man, that one sucks.
But the one I'm watching now sucks.
Okay.
So there was no middle ground here because you did them all and I did them none.
And there were clearly points where it's like, oh, it would have been cool to have been live when that were to happen or not.
But what I and for what it's worth, I was spending time with family and doing and taking a break and relaxing.
Good. That's good things to do.
Doing things that I think are important. So was there a moment where the threshold went from,
damn dude, you should have been watching these two,
and then was there a gradient into what the fuck?
No, not even, not even once.
Okay, because-
Like every single one of these Ended with the same
Conversation with page where I was like, oh, I hate this and she's like you should do it though
I'm like, I know I should do it
But it sucks and I'm like you're gonna be there for the summer games test
So yeah, and then we did the summer games test and she's like, yeah, it sucked and I'm like you should do it though
Yeah, it was just the same same conversation back and forth like 10 times. And then we just
skipped. We just skipped the last one. The fucking the PC gaming show. I played street
fighter up until the time it started and then went, fuck it. And just turn the show off.
And I didn't even notice until I told them on Twitter
Cuz who gives a fuck yeah terrible
No
That's an easy just look into my heart and see what's there and it is not this
I mean hey, so
Obviously when Street Fighter announces a crazy fucking
Megaton for that franchise,
that's a big thing you want to be around for.
That part was fun.
But yeah, beyond that I just am like, wow.
Now the funny part is on the back end I usually go, well hey, let me just catch everything
after the fact.
No you can't.
But there's so much.
So hey.
Yeah.
Uh huh.
So like, so there's a lot of parts that were bad.
Let's let's go there.
Watching like a full week of cutaways to bad skits is a recipe for suicide.
Right?
Not good.
Don't do it.
Stop doing it.
Even if it's Tim from fucking you know, I think you should leave. His was alright.
But more than anything, more than anything, I completely understand why the people who
are making these games do it. I completely understand. You are right to do it for yourself. But when I'm sitting,
the worst one was when I did the future games, then the Latin American games, then the women
games, then the future games and the cozy games. And there was, I would say, severe
overlap in that five and a half hour period.
Oh no, you're Poggin.
Because you weren't locked into one group.
You could be a cozy Latin American woman and just ping pong your game.
So like, they're like, and here's the world exclusive trailer.
And it was like, in some cases, the trailer you watched 10 minutes ago?
Oh, my dick mouth is out your poggin. Oh no
Your part on a street fighter over here
But thank you, that's that's fine
The Latin American games one was like the best show out of them all people from Argentina and Brazil and Mexico are
out of the mall. People from Argentina and Brazil and Mexico are fucking going for it. That was easily the best show of all of them. If you were going to watch any one of the
10 shows or 16 shows or whatever, watch the Latin American game show. South America is
doing a good job.
So I have a selection of things that is like stuff
that's probably we can talk about.
There are 100% super duper blind spots here.
So absolutely anything that I missed
or I don't bring up that you wanna bring up.
That's fine.
I don't remember.
And you know what?
There is a part of this that is important to watch.
So like watching Phil Spencer and Matt Booty
just be lying
fuck ass, homunculus pieces of shit on stage while they talk about the Xbox family as they
show a bunch of games that the people are going to get fired as soon as they ship. There's
value there. And then watching Phil Spencer just ignore every question that IGN asks him
where they're like, Hey, what's up with spending 70 billion dollars?
And he's like man game pass is so good
Right well the
Following up on the conversation the other day from how fucking
Microsoft is helping Blizzard right just all the energy carried forward
Awesome, that's that's before we move on did we do anything with the week other than this crap?
Um, yeah, no, there was, but I mean, we should get you to, here we go, let's say we should
stop Pat from pogging for a second.
Bro.
If I can take a minute to just fix his pog.
And we'll do it live.
We'll do it live.
Cause he's been, he's been kicked.
Um. Ah. Jesus Christ.
I don't know what Discord is up to, but we rejoin.
We rejoin, and here he is.
Hey bro, what's up?
I mean, as many restarts can be done as was done. I don't know the only thing left
I suppose is the complete wipe and and gut of all of it was the last time you restarted your router uh
About a week or two ago actually I could go it could go for what not now not now no no no no no
This is this is definitely just
Anyway, I'm no longer pogging all over ghost wieners. What were you saying wolves?
So all I'm saying is that there are some?
Yeah, I had I had some stuff with with my week for sure
But like I don't want to spend too much time
So to to quickly hit on the things that were rad, Nightmare Cart from Bunlith, AKA Botster, is super cool.
That's worth a gander for anybody
who's curious about how the Bloodborne Cart announcement
turned into its own original IP and now became this,
which is really, really barely legally distinct
I mean, it's really funny
Yeah, like they took the little the fucking I forgot the little pocket ghouls on the ground and they just stuck eyeballs on their
heads, you know
So legally distinct it's wild. I mean, you know fucking a father Greg is shilling and
Obviously Nicholas with his cage on his head all of that blue vials to go fast. No
Aether Aether vile. Yeah. That's right. And here comes
Raven
You know
Lyleen perhaps even I don't know but anyway that aside
It's a really fun cart game man
by the way for anybody who is interested in bloodborne carts and looked at the
Steam page for it, which is up now. I was like, ah darn
I'm gonna have to joy to key or something or whatever doesn't because it doesn't have listed controller support on the steam page
It has full controller support. Oh, yeah, so if you played Bloodborne PSX you'll know
that Budleth takes exhaustively incredible excruciating detail to make
sure you have good controller support and more filters than you want to emulate
not only the PlayStation era vibe but how much of your old TV do you want this
to look like? How much crunch do you want it? You can put scan lines on sure
but you can specify the type of scan line, the type of VHS tracking effect, the type of
dithering, the type of blur, exactly how it handles like full screen like there's so much insane
granularity to the visual effects on how you make this look like a retro game. So
you can see where her priorities are. But that's a lot of fun. And then in
terms of gameplay, like yeah, you just have this literally you get a Mario Kart
style theme when you drop into the race.
You know, boop, boop, boop, boop. And when you're playing Nicholas, you've got the cage on your head, so you're just
running on foot like a madman.
Like some other guy.
Yeah.
And as you race through the cart, what's fun about the way they, the unique twist on this
mascot cart racing thing is the track in... Do you remember old...
Did you ever play... You played like original Mario Kart, right? Like the...
I sure did, Willy.
Yeah. So Super Mario Kart and 64 as well. They eventually got rid of, but then returned to coins
on the ground. Or when you pick up coins, they increase your speed. That was something that was lost in like the pre seven post 64 years. I'd say
And you just picked up items and drifted and snaked if you were a fucker
It's funny cuz like the chocobo racing in ff7 rebirth uses the old Mario Kart system
Mmm, where you're picking up balloons to go faster. Okay, so what they did here is everyone has like you have aether vials that are natural
mushrooms those are boosts you get and you can replenish them by drifting around corners
or doing stunts, doing wacky tricks.
Great.
Your general weight and handling distribution for some cards it's real heavy, you can be
a Bowser-style knock everybody or you can be a really light fast like Eileen the Crow,
but what determines your top speed is kills.
And there's a bunch of monsters running around, you got little ghouls and you got little skeletons
and ravens crawling around, boars, and at some point,
the fucking blood starved jumps out,
and whenever you kill something,
you go a little bit faster.
So keeping that up,
spending your weapons on grunts or on your fellow racers
are like two things you're doing as you're playing.
And yeah, you have a very basic starting roster.
You put some codes in,
and then you can use everybody and everything.
And yeah, of course, the Hunter's Dream
is a little circuit running around the house, you know?
But then- Is it still called the Hunter's Dream?
No, no, it's not.
It's like, I can't, like, I try to,
I can keep up with the legally distinct names only so far. Yeah, it's not. It's like I can't like I tried to I can keep up with the legally distinct names only so far
Yeah
It's the the the Rangers nap time location
You know it's it's the thing and then you go off and then the the modified version to the side has full-on Rainbow Road
Going around off into the into the distance as you loop back around to the house, you know
So that's what obviously the sewers are crazy because they're all 90 degree
turns and yeah it's just it is a it is a really fucking fun ass thing that you
know if if Sony doesn't hold you down then bunlith will you will you will be
able to appreciate the Nightmare Cart IP.
Not to mention it's got friends like Suzy and Gianni in on the voices there too.
All friends of the show. Yeah. So be sure to.
Usually when a company is like, don't use that name, we like that name, you're like,
is something coming with that? No, no, not this time. No, there's nothing. Stop getting excited for Bloodborne.
There's a lot of codes that you can use to unlock stuff.
And there's one code that people found
that it seems to do something, but it doesn't.
And the code is just typing in, I changed my mind.
And the thought is like, was this her way
of putting in a cheat that let all the Bloodborne shit come
back in the game?
Like, you know? Yeah, maybe. know, but I think instead of tempting fate,
it just does nothing.
You know?
There's like, no.
Yeah, yeah.
But anyway, that's out there and it's free.
You can go get it on Steam now.
You can also get it on botster.itch.io.
And as a free ass game, you can donate whatever you want.
And the game, as like Bloodborne PSX,
is absolutely worth supporting. Bunleth for that so go take a look have some fun
good you should look at it and there's some bugs it's it's you know what it's
single developer made but I mean the shit lets you do you do your big four
player race you get a bunch of CPUs involved there's battle mode there's the
circuit mode with story and unlocking progress
And there's all there's like it's a game. It's not just a quick little, you know
It's actually a full thing especially compared to the the bloodborne PSX efforts from before where you're like
Oh, this didn't need to be as go as hard as it did. It just needed to be a little bit reminiscent of yeah
But no, it's a whole thing and there's original bosses and rooms and arenas and shit so same kind of thing going here we're just like way
understanding the assignment and over achieving on it great game the other
thing I did was so I'm about I think like an hour and a half from finishing
crow country I didn't beat it yet
So this is an awkward place. So your controller died, and I was like oh
This is a really awkward place because I can't talk about much because I'm right in the middle of
You know the the den you mo of that game once once you get into the the basement with the elevators
Yeah, you are about an hour hour and a half. That's where I am. I'm currently solving the basement. Yeah, so
We will talk more about that like what I get when we wrap it up
I wanted to do it in two and we could have but because I cut in some
Crocodile because I cut in blood-borne cart that took some time away as well so and a very valid factor that Reggie did
point out to me that is something I definitely don't usually account for and
I think I've forgotten as well is like whatever the estimated time is on
something for sure I mean of course yes wooly time and so on but but stream time
is also much longer.
But there's another factor too.
Reggie and I stop and voice every line in the games we play.
Oh, yeah.
You're not using your read brain.
It's not read brain.
It's not summarize A, summarize A the way you would if you're.
Like, we stop and voice all dialogue in the games.
So I'm like, oh.
Yeah, throw an extra half hour on there. That adds a good amount so
You know anyways all that to say we should be done with that real quick. So how do you like Crow Country?
So far it's real good. That's a fun little survival horror thing
I had a whole lot of guesses about what's going on, and we'll see how accurate those are no responses
I also had a bunch of guesses I was way off. Okay, we'll see where they land. I will say that as
you know, there's definitely a part here where I'm like I I know that I'm I'm missing the nostalgia hooks on some of the
It's the way things are playing. It's like
almost like
saccharin in its nostalgia juice
But it's very clear every time the world updates because you've gotten the next major
important thing
That like yeah, that's so there's a fuck you hallway that you can never really trust
There's some enemies that you're like
I'm not gonna waste my ammo on you and then they throw in some big fucks and you're like, okay now not going to waste my ammo on you. And then they throw in some big fucks and you're like, okay, now you have to waste some
ammo one way or the other.
And then all the things too where I'm like, hey, I made it how far into the game without
finding a second gun?
God damn it.
I think one of the games like real genius parts is that you clear out connecting hallways
is almost always the one.
Like whatever main thoroughfare you're gonna use
to get to other places, clear that out.
Oh no, it got repopulated with monsters
when I updated like a world state
or a quest or something, right?
And there's the point where, I think you're at it now,
where spike strips start to get thrown down on the fucking floor.
And you're like, hey, guess what?
You literally cannot run around the enemies
we have placed in your path.
You will take fucking damage going through this room.
Unless you scorch it to death, unless it's dead.
The fucking hedge maze was the one where you're like,
you're not, you're just not getting out of here like that.
Oh, a grenade is not gonna work, because it's a hedge maze. So you're throwing it too far from where you're like, you're not, you're just not getting out of here like that. Or a grenade is not gonna work,
cause it's a hedge maze.
So you're throwing it too far
from where you're supposed to be.
And using things like shooting a chandelier
to land on something, like good luck setting that up,
you know, cause it takes so long to aim
at the chandelier to time it.
So I put the plan into effect
and failed at least two or three times.
But you know, the other things that are interesting are like hey you need ammo you can run back to your car
But you got to run back to your car. You know yeah on hard So I'm finding out now that the spike strips are hard mode only oh you let you mean literal spike strips
I thought you were doing like metaphorical car like from the wall to 80%
A couple feet forward it's from the other wall to 80% across the room That's so monsters can cross them no problem, but you have to go
I thought you were using a car metaphor to say like no spikes trip no literal
So what I what we are getting is the little gooper blobs and then we're getting the gas
Mines on the ground and fake items on the ground
Fake items on the ground is so dirty
It's disgusting five times fake items is disgusting the bear traps are always there as well as now the crows
You know burping gas at you. So
Yeah, there's a couple of those things,
but yeah, I haven't seen the full on cars.
The crow burping gas at me and poisoning me
was like the loudest I feel like I've sweared
in my heart in a while.
Just like, oh, this is bullshit.
And I was like, I'm poisoned, but where is my life at?
And it's like you have to still,
you're poisoned but you're still taking some damage.
You have to know whether you're in the fine or okay
or whatever the case, you know, that's all there.
But yeah, no, there's a very clear like,
yeah, you can't coast too easy for too long.
You're gonna get fucked here and there.
I've had, right now I would say I'm firmly in the place
where, you know, like enjoying Silent Hill 2
prior to the staircase and then your finale,
which are like the holy shit game changer.
It's one of those where I'm like,
yeah, this is cool, this is cool, you know,
we'll see what's up, I don't know.
But I've had two major bummers that are in play right now.
One is more of a, one's a lot less, but it's just like the setup of sorts. But okay, one, the mushroom room. I don't think I need to
tell you.
Oh, that thing sucks.
It's the worst thing, right? It's the dumbest thing there.
I don't know what the intended solution is. Well, I think it's supposed to be eat a poison
one, eat a good one, eat a poison one, eat a good one. So the dumb part, the part that's so frustrating about that room
is what you, there's a false expected solution, which is they give you a list of safe mushrooms.
There's three of them on one side. There's a list of three poisonous mushrooms and then
the plates all have a name associated. Yeah, I ate all the good mushrooms first.
Exactly, because you go, oh, some are good and some are bad.
Therefore, if you look at the name that associates with the scientific name
that is the good type of mushroom, this is a knowledge check puzzle,
but that should be it, right?
Now we go up to the king or whoever and trigger it.
But no, it's not that. It's eat all of them and that's the dumbest thing that has no point.
Yeah, no, it's actually supposed to be eat the poison one that hurts you and then eat
the good one that'll heal you.
So yeah, that is a terribly designed puzzle. That was a really annoying one, but of course
it's an optional room, I guess, ultimately just being like, what was your logic here
and why did you go with not the obvious one, but the least obvious
bad choice, which is just take the damage and tank it.
I don't know.
Then there was a hilarious, I don't even know what the solution was, but brute force
it by ringing that bell.
Like just ringing the bell a bunch of times and then like, oh look, a secret popped out.
So there's two solutions to that bell.
The main one that the hoots you have to follow is obvious enough.
I don't know what the second one is.
So the second one is you find a different hooting owl that gives you a different number.
But you can also just brute force it, which is what I did too.
Hey, there you go.
Yeah, just pull that shit and and then it goes ah you did it
No, so that that's dumb, but um
What was a tone bummer? I guess is
Walking into the dig site in crow country is one of the greatest. It's such a strong
Nope Fuck no certified. No. I want nothing to do with this room moments, right?
A hole in the ground, a pit with a chain and a flamethrower pointed at it and it's shaking
and you're hearing the groaning and you're like, oh man, I hate whatever I'm going to
have to do here and you're getting gas canisters and it's telling you like
you're gonna have to deal with this fucking room at some point and
That was early on from the moment. I saw that room and got hype over it until you solve it
That was my strongest like I'm really excited for this thing in the game
Mm-hmm, and then when its solution turns out to be,
spoilers if you're looking to play Co-Crunchy,
not at all anything living up to that,
like fear and hype and nervous energy.
It's just a mask and some gelatin.
Yeah, man.
That is a...
Fake you out.
It's a fake out, but it's a fake out that kind of went,
oh, that's a flacaked you out. It's a fake out but it's a fake out that kind of went oh that's a flaccid
damn I was hoping for something anything literally anything but that you know so it was a really nice
build up of a really like oh fuck and I know you do that yourself but it really did a good job with
like making an intimidating room and then the end of that room is just nothing.
And yeah, I work myself up with the setup of what they lay out, but I wish they delivered
on that because just getting an item for a wall mask is not hype by comparison.
So that's it, I guess.
Everything else is going. know, it's going.
It's doing its thing.
And I appreciate that the locked camera angle makes it
so that enemies that are bigger than the screen
are just like permanently outside of your.
They're so fucking big.
That skeleton is so big.
There are enemies that are permanently
outside of your full comprehension
Because they crop outside of your camera rotation. You know that's great
and
I don't know have you have you does that ring a bell at all is that ever a moment that you've had in game in any
survival horror games where like
Something seems like a really scary it cool interesting setup, and then it doesn't like it's fairly rare
Okay
Cuz I don't think I've had that experience
I don't think I think of what the with the ones I've gone through so far, but yeah in any case
So we'll see what comes of it's usually the opposite
Usually something over delivers on something and it feels kind of like oh
in like a bad way. Right. Okay. Like not every locker needs to have a monster jump out at
you. Yeah, that's true. I will say too as well, you see the photo with the decapitated head,
right? In that same room as well. And I saw that before returning to it So there's an extra layer of oh fuck this. This is a bad room
Mm-hmm, and it's like no. It's it's actually just it's another nothing. It's fine. Yeah anyway. All right
I'm not gonna harp on that too much
we'll see where that goes the
Other thing is
Yeah, Slayer guilty Guilty Gear Strive.
Slayer's out!
Such a fun character.
Just a dandy boxer.
He's so, like, he's so much fun to use in such a basic way.
And yeah, his damage is nuts.
He fakes you by dandy stepping in and out.
It's cool to see him and Zato and Nagoriyuki
all quoting their dandyism quotes
and snapping their fingers and, you know, chuffing it up.
And he loves his wife.
And every time he wins, a randomized haiku
will be recited by him.
Oh, that's cute.
And Sharon. And it'll be 575 and then the person who lost will go
Dandy.
That's just silly as fuck.
It's a perfect little silly thing because yeah, he used to have his instant kill was
he'd like punch you into space and then say, one of many randomized haikus.
And now it's just in the wind pose and the lines sometimes line up, sometimes they don't,
but either way, she's a big part of his intros and outros and he's just a lot of fun.
Getting the bite on somebody is like this great feeling of like, aw fuck, the panic
is in for a couple seconds. And
like I said, you can then just teleport back left and right, mix them up. And it's interesting
because he's such a strong character on the ground, but he's very weak in the air. So
he's a lot like Little Mac in Smash, where if you're toe to toe with him, good fucking
luck. But the moment anything forces him to be up in the air like axle on the ground or a lot of armored shit
Anyone who's really good at like like yeah, just keep controlling the the the floor is gonna give him a hard time
Which that's a type of that's a that's an archetype of fighting game character you don't see often but he's one of the few, you know?
Again, Little Mac is like the strongest other example
I can think of where it's just like,
oh god, you're jumping?
Mm, good luck, bro.
So yeah, Slayer's just great.
Strive.
I'm glad.
Strive good.
Could you imagine if Slayer came out
and he was like, people didn't like him?
Like it's just like if Akuma came out and he wasn't
what everyone wanted him to be.
Oh man. Akuma versus Marissa has some particularly stupid moments where he can make her switch
sides on wake up in multiple situations. So I've had it on stream and then there's a
hotashi clip, same thing. He does an air fireball over her head. And it is like a full body length
and a little bit away from her, but she gets hit by it.
So a big hit box.
So she's, I don't know, some stupid shit is going on with
no, him in particular, and the interactions they have
where she just gets forced to face the other way
and it looks dumb.
And to that end, guess the whole debate about new characters at the tournament while
Upcoming CEO is that that debate just got super awesome by the way
Because what it means is that combo breaker fucking rules and CEO is for dorks
That's what that fucking means. Sure, sure.
As long as you're like
whoever's not there from a distance
can say whatever, but...
Yeah, I can!
It's easy. I just said it.
I just had to open up my mouth and words came out.
There you go.
Combo breaker says, you know what, nephew?
Yeah, you can have a beer. I'm cool.
And CEO is like how's are you?
Time I told your parents you had to stay to go to sleep at a normal hour
Yeah, I do not I do not blame you Bailey for the idea of all the console updates that have to go through the morning of
The night the nightmare that comes along with whatever's happening with that patch.
I don't blame him.
You're completely right, and that is a ridiculous thing
to expect of a tournament organizer,
because that is a huge amount of legwork
that we have proven that no one could do.
That it would be actually impossible for a tournament
to do that. Rick is Rick. It would not be possible. Regardless, regardless. What I would
say would be interesting is if, because neither of them are CPT events, if we could see what
Capcom themselves felt about this and then made and said like, oh yeah
We will allow or will not allow for CPT purposes
Then you could kind of follow suit what Capcom says is buy-in-bison now buy-in-bison now idiots. Shut up
And yeah, they give the patch regardless goes through even if the character is not in but yeah, that's that's way dumber actually
Because it was about updating the game and like the logistics that's one thing but if it's like yeah
I'll update the patch and do all that work but if anybody moves over to bison
on the screen I'm gonna say no no no there's no fear you know I just like like
yes it whatever I'm not I the least hype thing hype thing for the chaos of the spectacle
sometimes makes sense.
I don't envy needing to have to deal with that shit
from an organizational point or from a point of,
what should the amount of time be
when something is official for CPT
for massive whatever purposes?
I don't know.
I don't know. But all I know is when I give my opinion on things like this, everyone goes shut up.
That's boring and stupid. I'm like, yeah, okay. All right. Whatever. If it's not the
popular opinion, I'm like, all right, so be it.
I think combo breaker had to make this decision first of like days before. Like I don't think
it's ever been that bad, right? That it was like two days before an event?
That's ridiculous.
There's been, there's definitely been stuff like this, like that's been day of practically
in games.
Really?
Yeah!
And there's been stuff where it's been like, and the patch is bad, and there's a bug, and
there's a thing that fucking ruins the game, and if someone does that on stage or in tournament,
you can't do anything about it, you know? Hey, here's the thing though if someone does that on stage or in tournament you can't do anything about it.
You know hey here's the thing it does happen.
Comma Breaker did go out and was cool.
Yeah it's good good thing it worked.
I'm glad it all works.
This is somebody who's like not financially or emotionally invested in any of these tournaments. I think the idea of Capcom putting out a bad patch that sucks
and then getting that showcased in front of a massive audience,
I think that rules, actually.
I think all the announcers at CEO go,
wow, Capcom really fucked this up.
This shit sucks.
It's actually super awesome and hilarious.
Yeah, folks are referencing Sonic Fox playing Xenomorph.
And so NRS has had that.
You've got literally the VEMS fighting herds shenanigans
from what we talked about a minute ago.
Like, it's just, it is a mixed bag
and you never know what the fuck you're gonna get.
And like the more this is like an official, oh my God, a million dollars to the winner
moment then and it's just like roll the dice, go fucking crazy.
The more insane that decision becomes.
But anyways.
Yes.
Anyways.
I think they should let Tigers out on the basketball court.
Exactly.
Exactly.
Thank you.
Thank you. Exactly. Exactly. There we go. Thank you.
Moving on.
Yes.
So there were literally 16 game events.
Oh wait, I had stuff.
I had stuff.
I'm sorry.
I thought you had all watched.
Go ahead.
No, no.
Of note, Paige gave the baby a lemon this morning.
The baby loves lemons, so I'm fucked.
Okay. I'm fucked okay. I'm fine
I'm gonna live in a fucking bitter sour fucking nightmare household where people around me are just chomping on lemons and pickles and shit
Vinegar I'm done. It's all over now
That's a man
Yeah
And the second thing is I've been playing a ton of Street Fighter and I can report that
yeah, no that Zangief buff is for real cuz I went up a full grade. There you go. From
Plat 3 to Diamond, sorry Plat 4 to Diamond 4. There you go. Which is like right there right there almost that the only rank that matters
Also, I've been I've been like refusing to use training mode
I've become like the opposite of you like I would rather never play the game at all rather than load it up in training mode
for even a second
So
I'm trying I'm trying to learn Akuma hit confirms in matches.
And I will say one thing, there is a genuine benefit to like, hey, I would like to learn
my punish counters or I would like to learn the timing on my light hit confirms in exclusively real matches,
is that I no longer have the problem
of I can do it every single time in the lab,
but I can never pull it out in the fight.
So I would say like, get out of the lab,
fuck lab, real games only,
would be based if you never got salty.
But if you get salty at all at the outcomes,
then no.
If you are, if you're some-
You can't tell me what to do with my emotions.
You can do whatever you want, but I'm saying,
if you're like, yo, I'm like no training ever,
we're just going in, and then you're like,
wait, wait, wait.
We're having fun.
There's two types of salt
okay right there's fuck this dude that's bullshit and then there's oh I suck ass I
wish I was better right because the one is one is salt out and the other salt in
yeah yeah yeah salted right I have salt in okay okay the I feel like the bad
salt is salt out because if you if you what the
fuck is this bulls I mean they're both they're both bad to some degree but like one can be
constructive one can't one is more destructive for sure but that but yes if that's the thing
is if it's like why are things the way they are would you like to know why no I think
also there's a fun little detail where a gentleman has been showing up in my streams to just invent Akuma technology against me
Like just like from corner to corner just nonsense
Like juggling me with drive-rush jabs off like all sorts of nonsense. His name is heaf knof. Oh he's not yeah
Yeah, that's and so I'm like, oh man, this guy's
beating my ass real bad, that's crazy.
And then I was like, I'd like to go back
and watch some of Woolie's Akuma or Marissa videos,
and I click on it, and I just scrolled to a random part
and saw Heathnoth just beating your ass in.
Heath's great.
And I was like, oh right, okay.
This guy just floats around to kill.
And what you gotta do,
I mean, like there's the,
so the No Lab situation is brutal at every time
when a new character comes out
because you're fighting against the unknown factor, right? you like their God they've got a whole bunch of new tricks and tips and things that you haven't seen and that's gonna continue and
like it's almost like
Imagine if you're fighting against like, you know any boss in any other genre and they have moves that you've never seen yet
You know and you're like, oh he's floating in the air and he's glowing and oh God, there's a countdown.
Should I hit him?
No, there's a pit underneath him now.
Oh, okay.
Like, you need to see it all.
And then once you've seen it all,
then you can start adapting and putting the plan together.
But as long as you're like,
I still don't know everything I'm looking at,
the realm of the unknown will continue to own your shit for luckily if
if you don't want to go into the lab and you want to learn about Akuma just play
Street Fighter 6 at all because you'll get plenty of Akuma matchup practice
because he represents like 50 or 60 percent of all fighters.
For now, he's a brand new character.
He's also a legacy, popular, you know, dude.
He's he's going to be a big chunk for now.
It'll it'll even out as more come out and as time goes on.
But this is also a rush for people to like competitive players as well.
Play him so that you can learn how to fight him is a thing that people often do.
You see the limitations, you see,
you feel what's weak when you're using that character
and you go, great, now I know what to target.
I just like to, yeah, like I'll do things
where I'll just be like, even if I'm, you know,
putting the CPU to like level eight
and just running around, letting the CPU
just press random buttons and testing out things and seeing what
Spaces work where and there and such because yeah like again as long as that as long as that that souls boss still has moves
I've never seen yet. The fight hasn't really started. You know
Also, I don't know where you want to start with on on the news or whatever
Because I think there's like one particular piece of news that is
of biggest interest to you and I.
Akuma is brand new and thus the new character always gets like the most play online especially
for that first month.
But Akuma is also like a legacy popular character and everybody loves Akuma.
So Akuma has like the worst everyone is playing him ever I feel like it's crazy
It's like damn near everybody and as a result
It is like the shortest time in between one character to the next Street Fighter 6 might ever have
Where Akuma is only the new guy for like six weeks
Bisons in two weeks
Akied was pretty...
Was it?
Were they?
No, I feel...
Who was it?
Because I think like, maybe it was just the announcement trailer?
I forget what it was, but I feel like there was a particularly short window somewhere.
Or Rashid Aki.
Somewhere in this season there was a really short window that has occurred. So yeah, it's not
He's not it's not that bad
May 22 to June 26 that is a month and four days
Yeah, I feel like somewhere in there there was a really short one, but anyway
The the again Akuma was like no matter what even if he was there on launch she would be
popular but this is gonna be extra special for at least yeah the the coming
little don't worry if you love the new characters here comes a new one but
people are not gonna rush the bison as quickly I'd say yeah no of course not because he's a fucking charge character and that's weird and icky mm-hmm okay so yes this week I'm going
to be finishing off crow country nightmare cart no we already did that
sorry Yakuza on the channel gonna probably finishing Yakuza no no no no I'm
just saying I'm gonna I'm gonna Crow Country, I'm gonna play some more Yakuza Zero.
I'm going to do a sponsored stream on Friday
for SMT5 Vengeance.
That's crazy, me too!
Cool.
What time are you doing that?
Should we talk about how we should not overlap?
I was gonna do it, yeah, I think I was probably gonna start like two or three because I have
UMAD later that day. So it's the same day's tournament.
That's two Eastern?
Yes.
Great! I'll start at two Pacific. Hooray!
And there's probably gonna be another one off somewhere in the schedule. I'll let you guys know which.
So just check my Twitter for the schedule. And yeah, on Saturday and Sunday, it's gonna be UMAD, so Ultimate Montreal Airdashers. Therefore, on stream, they're going
to be running the brackets on Woolly Versus on Saturday
and on Sunday.
And the Sunday stream in particular,
Reggie and I are going to do commentary for top eight.
So yeah, come hang out if you want to see some cool Street
Fighter action.
What happens if you're in top 8?
Well, I won't be because Saturday I'm actually unable to make it.
But that's the reason why.
That is the reason why.
But yeah, that's that's going to be it.
So there's a don't be alarmed when the stream pops live and then you see some fight games happening.
And the venue is super sick.
It's the one I told everyone about where it's happening in a church.
And there's the upstairs where everyone's got the booze and it's the pews where people
look down.
You got the main venue, which is the church and the main stage where the sermons would
be held.
And then in the basement, you got the boxing gym, so
Just the sickest goddamn fighting game venue ever
Yeah should be good tune in
Over at Pat stares at this week
I'm gonna take a couple days off because I just did like ten in a row with these stupid shows
And then I'll be back on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for
FF7, SMT and FF7. I've decided to just do all the side content off-camera. I need
to finish that game and I did some of the side content on camera and you know
what I sat there and I said wow this was not worth it to do at all let alone on
camera. And look you know I'm a fan of
the share button tech where if something particularly cool happens record that
shit. Yeah if only there was like a website you could easily share that shit
to nowadays. Well I just pull it up on the console itself you know. Yeah well
lucky me nothing cool happened those side quests in Cosmo Canyon are awful
But they're bad the songs good mm-hmm all right, so there was
The best indie games summer showcase the OTK games expo. Good. It's that one gorilla collective

Oh my god, I did Dave the devs. I'm being told I did watch the Day of the Devs.
Man.
One.
So this is where I would just love to give
a hearty shout out and applause to a website.
This website is 2024.gamesrecap.io.
This is a list of trailers from every announced thing
at every announced thing.
And when you go there, it very straightforward has,
this is the show the announcement was made at,
click here to play the trailer,
and you can sort and filter by the event,
by time, by a bunch of other metrics and just get it all
You know what there used to be a website that I used to use for this exact topic
Do you know what it was called? Uh-huh? It was called game trailers game trailers
And you would just watch every single trailer that got uploaded and then you got all of it.
Yep. Yep. Well, here you go.
Games recap.io. It's just it's updating right now with Ubi.
It wasn't, you know, when we were before we started.
And I mean, it's like an exhausting amount of videos to scroll through,
admittedly, but it's all there.
So just don't.
But this is exactly what I'm looking for when I'm looking for roundups and, you know, after
the fact summarize, summarizations.
So there's another one.
Oh my God.
There's a there's so many.
So many what?
There's more shows happening today.
Yes, Ubi is happening right now.
Yes.
But also Black Voices in Gaming is in an hour and 20 minutes.
Wait, no, that's a day.
Oh, yeah.
So absolutely.
I mean, this and like you can look at the summer list like going back from Warhammer's
announcements in May.
It goes through all of them.
The ones that haven't happened yet is Ubi Forward is happening now, Black Voices in
gaming in two days, then-
Dames for games.
Then Streams for a Cause and then THQ Nordic, right?
So it continues.
That's too many.
It's the full-ass schedule.
It is.
It is.
It is not a reasonable nor realistic amount of shit to cover.
What they should do is they should have two or three shows and they should only
show the games that I care about I could you think I will could you imagine if it
was your job to cover all of this shit yeah you'd be sitting there going this
isn't worth it couldn't be me nah Nah, bro, okay
Yo, hey Street Fighter six year two character reveals right they
Learned from the leaks and just said fuck it everything out the gates because it's been pretty good
I think it was pretty hype for everyone to see in advance of the game what the full roster was like and then
to see in advance of the game what the full roster was like and then the DLC one as well, even though it ended up being like spoiling the marketing department's plans. I think the effect
of people knowing outright with a big hype bomb is pretty fun because it's not like the new
characters coming out and getting footage like is not still a news wave, you know?
The benefit of, like, DLC and fighting games in particular is every time a new one gets
announced it's a new, like, wave for the game to enter the news cycle a little bit.
But yeah, especially when you just get to look at a little animated thing here, like,
holy fuck, there's Terry Bogard and it looks like the anime style of
The Street Fighter 4 anime cutscenes I can't wait to see what Terry looks like in game when he looks real good because here you're looking at a really basic
You know
There's so much good in that trailer so first of all like it
Ken and Terry are the same man. we all know this, they're the same guy.
And so when Terry is like walking by the burning oil drum in the intro, you're like, oh, it's
Ken, he's got, he's even more homeless now somehow.
And it flew right over my head until he put his fucking jacket on.
That's the move.
And then you've got, then you've got Luke and Jamie getting drunk and about to kiss.
Winner takes a sip and then the doors open as Jamie and Luke are real close.
They are so close.
And wrapped around.
And Jamie's got a weird little smile on.
Yeah. And then he's really annoyed that Terry interrupted them. And Jamie's got like a weird little smile on yeah, yeah
Really annoyed the area interrupted them Jamie's hitting Luke with the come hither's I swear to God he is
That was the real shit yeah
But you know that then the the door slam open and here comes the wild wolf
Hungry, Terry in. I think this is a very clear like, holy shit, the gates are open.
We're letting guests in.
Street Fighter has always been the franchise that doesn't do it.
Doesn't do it, right?
Pure.
But maybe a Street Fighter will go somewhere else because Street Fighter is Street Fighter.
But this is the emblematic mountaintop fighting game
franchise, therefore.
We don't.
But here's the thing.
I think watching how well Akuma landed in Tekken
got some eyebrows raised.
That was huge.
And he was part of the canon as well.
Oh, that was like, you don't have
to do anything to make
Fatal Fury and Street Fighter together like right. Oh, I'm from South town. It's
It's the Jersey to Metro City's New York. I'm from across the river
So that's and that's it right and it's like, you know, like they I mean Geese was a fucking sick pick as well
But I'm like, you know, you get your guest characters
and Namco, they've been about that for a long time,
especially Soul Calibur.
People are more excited about the guests in that franchise
than they are about the main franchise in some cases.
But like here, yeah, you get like Akuma dropping in,
being a big part of that.
He's worked into the story.
It's a major deal.
And it wasn't just like part of the story.
He was like, I was one of the major players of the story. It's a major deal. And it wasn't just like part of the story. He was like, I was one of the major players of the story.
Canonically instrumental to the plot of the franchise.
I was there the whole time, guys.
You know, so that's a wild one for them to do.
And so that's where you go, all right, this is a very smart, popular move that, like, the crossover is here that clearly is a good fit.
If anyone is gonna walk through those doors when the gates open, it better fucking be Terry Bogart.
It'd be our old friend Terry.
Right? Like the tweet said, not a guest, but like a brother in arms.
A friend character.
Yeah, brother in arms. They've been through the shit who else man stands there
like that is the dude that is the most welcome and
my thing in particular is like
While I never felt that guest characters would like fit for Street Fighter because we haven't but we haven't seen them till now, right?
Oh these barely count. So this is where I'm like, okay here
I've had to think about the position a little bit, and I'm like I
Would like I'm okay
Here's what I want if we're if we're gates are open and we're doing this now and everyone is gonna be making their insane
Smash Brothers like calls right where's to be?
Like no no no it's not me
Fit it's not me again. It's not Geralt, right? So my stipulation is if they can look like they took a bus from where they came from and got off the bus in Metro City
We're good. Absolutely. Terry got on the fucking subway left South Town and got to Metro City
Like it's really funny cuz Terry now looks like Ken's interim divorce state sure
Terry now looks like what Ken looked like when his divorce was starting
And now he looks like what he looks like now that his divorce is finalized if if you are gonna be a guest in Street
Fighter no portals opening up, please
Let you be a thing that fits and comes from the world and suits it. And here
comes Mai. Right? It is interesting because-
Mai also fits perfectly.
Yeah.
She's again, the first- you want to talk about Chun-Li first lady of fighting games? Well,
here comes the second, right? These are the two standing at the peak. And Fatal Fury getting
that love in particular is great. I like that. I think that's hype.
I think it would be really funny if the set... Because now I feel it's a core assumption
we're going to see more guests way in the future if they just went into King of Fighters.
So it's not impossible.
But Reggie did point out, he's like, he did say like for the whole season for it to be
half guests though, that is a lot. And I'm like, it's true.
It's two guests out of four announced characters.
And-
They are good guests though.
They are great guests.
And if the feeling is that like,
ah, that slot could have been a Makoto or, you know,
an Ibuki or something like that, right?
It's like, well, one, they took a character poll
and Makoto and Ibuki were above Elena.
So they're doing this on purpose.
They know that those are future things.
It's not just popularity.
It's not. It's also how do you put a booster pack together
of the right cards, you know?
And then you also have the part where
this is a four-character announced season.
If they did want to throw in another slot in there,
they would have announced five or six, right?
It's a short season, so you're getting what you're getting here.
They could have put another one, but they didn't.
So I think this is basically just like, here's what we confirmed and we got for now.
And then for sure, anyone that people want to see harder in the future
is likely going to be packed in, you know, in a group in a
really good way. I saw some people comparing each season of the Guilty Gear Strive DLC and
going like, Oh, what was your favorite season and stuff? And it's the way they've arranged
it was pretty good. Like there's winners for every season for people that like love these
characters. And Street Fighter is definitely taking that approach here where they're not
going to give you like they're giving you a mix of high demand weird pick probably returning legacy old character and
then some some unexpected thing.
So I imagine Terry is going to be costume one the original that we see hopefully somewhere
in there there's no character specific intros so damn it. We can't get what we all want, but maybe in the
World tour or somewhere in a moment there can be a Ken tossing the hat at Terry
Yeah, you know seen because we all want that it's so good pick that shit back up. It's classic right but um
Terry getting Wild Wolf for his costume too, right that seems like a lock and then three
for his costume too, right? That seems like a lock.
And then three, probably Fatal Fury one,
where he's the full on pizza delivery boy
with the long sleeves.
He has a different jacket and jeans in that.
They could go that direction with it.
And then Mai, I was saying her second costume for sure,
you gotta do maximum impact, black hair, the falcon
look, the one everyone's crazy about.
Incredible, right? And then probably third costume could be like an Andy Bogard reference or something like that.
Yeah, before we get too far away, I think they're doing the same thing with the second season that they did with the first season, which is old character, new character, old character,
new character.
The only difference is that the brand new characters that have never been in Street
Fighter are characters you have totally played before in other fighting games.
They're just new to Street Fighter.
Yeah, I expect if you see a third strike character
There will be a Street Fighter 2 character, right?
There will be a distinction between the series that you're pulling them from and then they'll be new as well as like some other
Unexpected thing for sure so like next season we could get
To all like Makoto and fucking necro who gives out no Makoto and Alex and then you'd have one brand new character and one
Guest but I you see but that's where I say like they'd go they'd go if they go Makoto then they'd go
Vega or something like they'd be like, yeah, you know, here's a Street Fighter 2 representative
Here's a pre-represented it wasn't even in the game the the the four the four heavenly kings, right?
and and the four heavenly kings, right? And you know, the Shadowlu four could like always,
yeah, if we're returning to old shit,
then we're returning to old shit.
There's always that possibility.
In fact, I would say like Bison showing up in this way
means like Dudley is very possible if he could,
like as a popular character,
Ed does not actually like prove that they're moving away from him because they're willing to just grab
old shit anyway and do it you know so before bison Elena not much to say
updated Oscar outfit looks great I like Elena plus time happy to see what she
gets I like is there level three let go. I cannot wait for level three healing
and critical art level three healing plus drive healing. I can't wait for the nonsense.
No, if anything realistically I imagine I could see her getting a little bit back and then healing
over time for the rest of it. Healing over time until you get hit would be fair, I think.
But like, something.
Like it fills your bar with a full bar of gray life.
No, but you see the problem with that
is now you're incentivized to stop playing the game.
Yeah, that's right.
No, no, you can do it. Stop.
No, you can do it in better ways, right?
Like Jago healing or Heat Bar and Hek-Tek-An-8 healing where attacking gives you some life
back, right?
Oh, like life steal?
No, not life steal.
If you're blocking but I'm making you block, I'm still healing but I have to touch you
to make those things happen.
You can make offense be the reward.
It doesn't have to be like, I'm out.
Fuck you, I'm not playing, right?
That is generally bad for fighting game in most cases.
But M. Bison is here.
And I've said a couple times, I'm like, ah, okay, I want new body and then preserve the move set so that we can have like the bison players
get bison and then ultimately we will see a character that is fitting for the setting
of the future.
Well, we didn't get a new body.
No.
We got a new mind instead.
Which is not what I was expecting at all.
That is not what I thought we were gonna have.
Didn't expect that. And it's not-
New character? Same... character.
It's not Nightmare Geese, but it- here's the thing, seeing the design, I'm like, as much as I'm like,
Oh God, it's Sigma again, Palpatine has returned, he looks pretty fucking sick the design. I also liked the secondary antagonist of Street Fighter alpha the movie
Rosanov the gigantic dude with the flowing coat and the long white hair oh
My god
Is that the dude that puts shun inside him? Yeah? Yeah?
And he does all those moves with his way
Yeah, yeah, totally the does all those moves with his yeah, yeah, yeah
Fucking inspiration yo that child got SPD or he was about to
He was the key was about to SPD a child I like a 10 year old and at the last second I think reuse sweeps his head to save him from he does a
Jumping roundhouse into GEEF's head that knocks it stops him there we go man that
child was about to explode uh
Anyway, so yeah, you get this like he's basically stole Sagat from Street Fighter 5's drip where he's got the big
Put a coat on, put a cloak on dude, it's cool!
He's got the long gray hair. He's got the brain gone. He's got the burn damage
He's all gnashed up and he's riding a horse so he can do the Street Fighter Raul Julia pose
It's stupid that it's not a bison, but hey, I'll take what I can get so
One riding a cow one
The the I hope the horse has a really sick name
Maybe it's Kokuo who knows yeah
has a really sick name. Maybe it's Kokuo. Who knows? Two... I saw someone saying that the horse is bison.
Yes, the horse is... Yeah, exactly. They're all bison and his soul has split and the bison
is also in the horse. So if the man dies, he still lives on, right? Yeah. So I imagine...
So what we last saw story-wise is Ryu at the end of the Street Fighter V
story mode, The Shadow's Fall, I think it was called?
Yeah, he fucked his ass up with a really strong Hadouken and Bison started to get all blue
and crack apart.
So Ryu defeated Bison and supposedly he was dead, but then he wasn't. And it seems as if perhaps JP walked along
and grabbed some shit out of his corpse
or got him while he was on the way out.
So I've been thinking about this.
I was talking about Bison dying and people were like,
but he blew up.
And I went back and watched the cut scene.
He doesn't blow up.
He looks like he's gonna blow up,
but he starts to crack
and then some rubble falls.
JP literally says that Bison gave him psycho power
back when shit was fine, back when he was just running
the accounts for Shadowloo.
Bison goes into JP's office and goes,
yo, do you want some psycho power? And JP
went, okay, it'll help me do your taxes or whatever. Considering how easy it is for him to give it to
other people, I can see that happening, especially if he's like, yo, I want vessels, right? Yeah,
here you go. Exactly. Here's your bonus. Big purple glow. And I imagine too as well that when Bison returns, that's a reason for Rose to return
to in a lot of cases at some point.
So here's the thing.
Yeah, so you're like, is it him?
It seems to be, et cetera.
Oh, it is.
Yeah.
The blog post says, nearly dying has changed his move set somewhat.
So it's straight up-
And he's got the amnesia.
Exactly. So if you want me to take that name, then I guess I'll call myself Bison. Like,
all right, bro. Sure.
As far as I'm concerned, it really looks, because Bison's like an evil guy who soul
exploded when he loved evil so much. And some of that went into Rose, like they're like
twin people kind of thing. This looks like Ryu fucked his ass up so hard that he blew off some of the murder hobo and
Turn him in to the asshole that he was before
He got all into psycho power. I mean we don't we don't know it's weird
He's also like the but the asshole that we know is already potentially a body switch that has he's already done
You know, so that's like this might be the guy that was in the body by sentook
We don't we have no fucking clue
And we know that as scientists have been working on all these body
Experiments because the first round with the fucking doll plant program and then the second round with the Seth Abel,
et cetera, program, it's, you know,
there's a billion possibilities for the soul transfer.
But I think-
There are two details that help though, right?
One is he's got blue energy on a bunch of his shit,
which is soul power, that's not psycho power,
that's roses like shit.
And the second is that he has gained white woman normals.
I don't know if you saw his sweep,
his sweep is Rose's sweep?
He's got a normal sweep, he does, he does, yeah.
He actually gets a normal sweep.
He's got Rose slash Karen's sweep.
He doesn't have to slide anymore,
they gave him a down back roundhouse.
That's the most shocking thing about his kit so far.
A regular sweep is scary.
Because now he gets the slide as an option.
And yeah, the thing with, I guess, his...
I'm like, whatever the story ends up being for him like you know there's this is a point where sometimes there'd be an oh
It's the villain but reincarnated in a new character or something is something a setting would do right here comes a rock Howard or a
Whatever the other versions of that are you know but I
Guess I just hope that there's something else to it besides
He didn't die completely,
he lost his memory but here he's back and once he puts that hat on all the memories
come back because they're all inside the hat.
The hat's freaking out on the chair.
That doesn't seem like what's going on.
I believe he is responsible for Terry and my So I don't know how closely you watch that little piece of the history trailer
But here's on the TV is the big psycho energy device. Yeah. Yeah to get all juiced up
When he does that if you look carefully there are screenshots of old flighty fighting games shooting out of the machine
What oh Screenshots of old fighting games shooting out of the machine What?
Yeah
Oh man, woah
No, I didn't see that
Yeah, hold on, let me get a fuckin'
Vinesh
Oh my god
Let me see if I can get the
Oh no, portals
God damn it, I wanted a bus ticket
Where's the I was very excited about the prospect of a bus ticket is that real is that is that that that might not be?
Real can we get you go find it? Yeah? Let's let's get a hard confirm before we commit to that because
People say a lot of things
Let's see. Anyway. While you continue to talk, I will find it.
Okay. That's all right. So yeah, I am hoping that, you know, because it seems to be like,
oh, who's going to be the new leader? Ed is someone that, you know, JP is approaching
and saying like, you should take over and stuff. But yeah, I hope there's somewhere in his, his reemergence, a, some
kind of twist or unexp... something just, some idea, something new, right? Because the
more it's like, it's the thing you all know, and there's not much else to it besides that,
the less exciting I think that is.
Please find a way to make his return
have something else going on with it.
Maybe it's the Rosisms, you know, maybe it's that.
Maybe there's a, the personality fracture
allows for something else going on there, but we'll see.
Yeah, I,'ll see Yeah, I
I
You know it's strange that little story bit
They put up of him like attacking the machine with the hat is not in the season 2 trailer or the gameplay trailer
It's it was only the live broadcast. I
Did see it though. I did see it. Yeah, no, I seen it.
It's at the end of the anime trailer,
they cut to the model of Bison.
And then like, yeah, you see the hat floating on the chair,
freaking out, and then he hits the big purple thing.
So I'm super happy that moveset wise,
yeah, you take a look and what has he got going on.
He's got the, like I said, the original slide
plus the new slide.
He's got the improved head stomps,
including the straight up and down,
like almost like a Smash Brothers down B move
where he jumps over you and goes straight down.
OTG version of the head stomp.
You've got the OD scissor kicks
that end on a launcher at the end.
And now all of that V trigger bomb stuff
is worked into his normal game plan.
So back fist combo, devil's reverse, psycho crusher
are all ways to like detonate the bomb
that you put on the opponent,
which creates big combo extensions.
He's gonna be this bomb character now that you're gonna have to worry about.
And also, like, the fear that people had for like, aw man, old Blanka doing Blanka Ball
through fireballs, fuck that shit, that's annoying.
Yeah, well they took that away properly, but now here comes Psycho crusher through fireballs
Okay, so this screenshot is
In the bottom right of the thing I sent you is it's hard to see because the YouTube compression
This is him punching. This is him absorbing something out of the
Out of that device and there's a little fighting game screenshot in the bottom corner.
Yeah, there's like Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha screenshots.
I see, I see.
People are suggesting that he is eating his old memories.
Could be that.
Um, I'm gonna, yeah, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, okay yeah, the second screenshot has some
better...
Yeah, yeah, it has some more clear...
But yeah, no, there's a bunch of fighting game screenshots.
He's eaten old fighting games. But is that, these are Street more clear. Yeah, no, there's a bunch of fighting game screenshots. He's eaten old fighting games
But is that these are Street Fighter screenshots?
Yes, they are in these ones. No, no shots of fatal fury
I'm gonna I'm gonna say the jury's out on him punching portals
I'm gonna say she she was one. She was the right there
The memories of past games are all being absorbed here.
It's not confirmation that he's punching portals that are opening up for Terry and
Mike to jump out.
Also that shit is lame as fuck.
That sucks.
It's way more cool to think that they just got on a bus and took it over from South Town
to Metro City.
Oh geez, calm down there, Geralt.
No good. Anyways.
Oh yeah, all right, here's the best screenshot I could get.
Here you go.
Oh man, analyzing blurry shit.
Hell yeah, that's the, that's the job, bitch!
These are, okay, these are tons of screenshots
of old Street Fighter games. Yeah, tons of screenshots of old Street Fighter games
Yeah, he's absorbing the old Street Fighter memories also when he hits the it's hard to tell but when he hits the big thing
And then all the purple energy is going all over there
There's like a big angry purple face. Yeah, he's actually punching so max reacts is the video that where it seems
Yeah, of of course I had
to go get max's footage because max has the best footage mm-hmm I mean I mean
there here's him punching a big angry face willy okay I see that yeah yeah
Seth hopefully fuck that guy anyway no the the psycho energy is is gonna return
to him and heal he'll he will
He will remember his identity perhaps at the end of his story mode or unless he's just remembering his move set
That's um and you know and here's the thing like there's been some spec is so max was also
similarly odd the backs is also on the
Early oh shit is Luke Captain commando possibility. You know type of thing
There's there's some there's some wild specs that like you throw them out there
and if they land they land but if they don't they don't and I think that one
would have been exciting but we didn't get that anyways we'll see what remains
of whether or not that actually means anything but his move set he's got yeah
he's got the,
like I said, the ability to now pop you
with all the V-Trigger stuff.
So everything they got as the main skills in V-Triggers
and stuff from Street Fighter V, incorporating into the kit
and keeping the Omega Mode stuff as well, right?
Yeah, it was just crazy to actually see
more of that Omega stuff come back.
Street Fighter IV Omega Mode really was the template for everything in the future
It's crazy how much that telegraphed all these characters years later for all the experiments they had
But for all the new things the staples are all in so one his level one super is
the knee-pressed nightmare, but always always give
the knee press nightmare, but always, always give Street Fighter EX its flowers, because they're the first ones that invented Bison doing his super that ends in the kick kick,
face stomp, and then backflip.
Before that, it always used to be scissor kick, scissor kick, slide.
As of Street Fighter EX, Erika gave him that move, and Capcom was clearly like, yo, that
shit is sick.
That's much better.
They gave it to him in Capcom versus SNK.
And then from then on, it's just been now a part of him canonically.
Street Fighter IV also brought Psycho Punisher, which is him doing the big stomp, grab you,
and rip your fucking soul out moment.
That thing was insanely busted in Street Fighter
in Super 4 because he could do it without a charge
walking forward the moment you started to do anything.
Yeah, that was stupid.
And he could hold left or right to make it cross you up
or not cross you up and it was just unstoppable.
Like giving charge characters non-charge supers
is really stupid and I think they should do it every time.
Like, as long- so they did it, and that's what they're doing here in this game, but we need to make it work, right?
If he can do that, then you're taking away the weakness of a charged character, which is they have to commit to their option in advance.
Good. Yes.
Therefore, find something else to balance that out, you know?
I'm very unbiased about... you should give M. Bison a gun.
Because when you're fighting a charge character and you're like, oh, if I'm Blanka, I can
hop past you and break your charge.
That's great.
If I see you on the ground, if you're Guile and I see you walking forward, you're reacting to what they're when they're walking, you're reacting to them breaking
their charge, they're less of a threat, or you can jump over to mess that up as well. So
yeah, all of that looks like he's got the cool shit. And then of course, unlimited Psycho
Crusher for level three, he does a big old Psycho Crusher fucks you up. Psycho Crushers are great. I mean, ever since Alpha 3, Shadowluism,
where he just does that full screen insane. Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr cool it's cool let's see what's up you know the artwork that they show of the concept and stuff really sells it to the he looks he looks again he looked like
the model does a good job but like at the concept art for sure is like oh you
can see why they went with this look as well I think it looks great this is kind
of exactly what I wanted mmm I wanted him to be falling to pieces and he is
totally fucking falling apart also I thought I actually really
liked Rosenoff from that alpha movie I thought it was cool God going back so
like I'm just kind of getting everything I wanted possibly yeah I don't know that
those movies are there they didn't have the influence that the Street Fighter 2
the original movie did nor the the even the, right?
Hey man, the fucking white headband on Ryu
and then him and Ken switching colors,
like brilliant move, incredible.
What a great thing to bring into the canon there.
So with, but yeah, with this, it's just,
he continues to be a failure though. Bison cannot switch bodies for the life of him.
And in fact, he can have his mind wiped and be stuck in the same body. It's really funny because we are-
We are 33 years in on a character who's defining
characteristic is that he builds backup bodies to swap into and has yet to do so even once
It's it's incredible right not only has he not one of his backup bodies
Swapped from its backup to a different backup all of his backup bodies have become independent
Individuals that are living
Moisturized happy lives. There are so many
Like bison that rose is is like a split-off
Seth is a backup Abel is a backup can't do their own thing doing their own thing
Yep, and the dolls five the dolls got freed right? They're living their own lives
And the dolls got freed, right? They're living their own lives. It's crazy. And then all the potential of like, you know, even when he...
Technically Evil Ryu was a potential, like he's like, ooh, I think I like your body at one point.
That didn't work. Charlie again dies for no reason.
But it's insane how much of a...
Yeah, the mentor in the chat says you could make a whole Street Fighter game with just Bison's backup bodies right so yeah, he completely completely fails exactly like Palpatine and
We just got a fucking it's Sigma again. He's back here. He is what else you got this time fucker well. It's fine people are gonna
You're gonna. Yeah, you're gonna. You're gonna see whatever he becomes.
I'm like, the whole bit about time moving forward,
when Ryu's aging and all that shit,
is like, I hope someone somewhere in this story
just gives him a fucking, god damn it!
Fuck!
I hope someone gets really annoyed at him showing up again.
Bison, I thought you were dead!
I was.
Yeah, Cammie has been paranoid for years.
Right.
Jury has been depressed because she's got nothing to do now.
They've all been like she's aimlessly wandering about
because she has nowhere to break to put her vengeance.
Now she can get all hype again.
Cammie can finally like realize that that, oh no, the paranoia I've been having that keeps me on
edge is actually real and oh, he's back.
And people like Chun-Li, who are also unable to relax, now have to be like, I was right,
god damn it.
And also we can confirm that all forms of An Satsuken are bad at taking people out. Yep, of course
This makes Nikali look like an extra double bitch god
I mean that nothing can make it like nothing more than his actual debut and finale
Then killed in his debut game
Guile also is another character on that roster that is like I'm ignoring my family because fucking
Boyston and it's like I just gone go live your life, and he's like uh
Okay, yeah, right. Let's go live our lives all right my daughter loves hanging out and at DJ concerts. It's great
Let's have a good time. I'm still on edge though
I want this now he comes back, and you're just taking all that fucking paranoia and making it real
I want this to go into what I guess I would call negative pathos
Like I want I want like Chun Li or cami like God half the fucking cast has a reason to just freak out right?
Like Chun Li be like what the fuck are you doing here bison? I'll kill you. He's like, I heard Metro City had really good Lebanese food.
What? Have you been to Hado?
Hado pizza is incredible.
Yeah, I'm trying to find some good some good shawarma, man.
I just want I want a Donner sandwich.
Do you know where I can get a good Donner sandwich?
You got it. You got it. You got to go to Naishal, actually.
Oh, OK.
Naishal, actually. Oh, okay.
Naishal! Yeah.
Is the...
And I'm wondering too if, like, at some point,
Bison's gonna have to sit there and teach you, right?
So, like, is he...
No, actually, he totally doesn't.
Apparently, he just has to touch you.
But even that's not enough,
because JP still has to show you his moves over time, right?
Like, you still have to learn to harness the Psycho Power.
Otherwise you're just one of those box headed idiots going, ah.
I like the idea that while when you go hang out with Bison, when he's not hanging out
with you, he's teaching the horse Psycho Power moves.
That's good.
That's good.
I mean, make no mistake, the idea of Bison cheating his way into his
Tech is is a very yeah, and like you said like we're saying like antithesis for Akuma style method of learning but
All this to say that with Akuma coming now and being like he's not
Evil evil he kills with consent. He's complicated There have been hundreds of dudes just like again floating around exactly. It's like he killed that guy
It's like yeah, but that guy was super into it though
Okay
You know like are we gonna get that again?
I don't know like I don't know how psycho power works because I'm not a fictional character
But one of the things you're bringing up about how like, you know, the characters teach you their moves
and and like
Bison stole all of his power and he switches bodies and I'm like just bison even know his own
Moves at all or I always figured they were just things that he was just doing
I got things that he was just doing I
Things that he was like consciously thinking about
Yeah, I mean I I assume that you know psychos psychopower can do fucking almost anything I assume that he's like picking through a giant deck of cards and going this time
I want to paint the fence now fuck that that thing sucks. You know this time. I want to put a bomb on you
Okay, let's keep that for a bit
You know he's just he's rolling through a giant Rolodex of tech
But yeah, I also would like to imagine that the moves that the ghosts JP has
In his cane are doing are stolen from bison that he cannot do them because
JP's ghost is doing it I really like so we have ed bison JP and
technically Rose that use variations of soul power slash psycho power and I like
that none of them have moves that are anything like each other also manat all monots oh yeah man also uses soul
power yeah like it's all just like a fucking source and fault really she's
you know I didn't ever purple never seen a match with Falk in it and she's
charging a purple cane and shooting it at you. Yeah
You've never seen do you know a like do you know any of her moves?
No, I I didn't know she had a stick until you just told oh damn
It's her whole bit like she charges it lies down on the ground shoots it at you. She zones with her stick
She plays pool
Yes, and oh my god, I've never seen this character.
And, lest we forget, Athena Asamiya also uses Psycho Ball! That's true. And in SVC Chaos,
they have their intro where it's like, oh, you use Psycho Power too! Mmm, it's a little
different. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah
anyways Yeah, you so you can do all kinds of bullshit with it soul and psycho
Even it's but even if you don't like tarot cards
So yeah, we'll see we'll see we'll see very soon
Weirdly soon like wow super fast
soon like wow super fast now the other thing is does that mean that this is an opening of the doors in both directions and city of the wharves might get a
guest character as well yeah could it be a mutual exchange since they both have
games to promote here comes Makoto for city of the Wharves. Oh god, that would be so insane.
I mean, so for the world of Garou right now, I could see Luke walking in to be the brand rep, you know?
I could see them doing that.
You know, like they could do Ryu. He's very close to Kyokugen, you know?
I think that's way too similar to put a Shoto in there. Marco is extremely similar, and Ryo and Robert
are literally coming from that clone energy.
Terry Bogard has made a fairly distinguished character
that's separate from the Shoto's and stuff.
But yeah, I could see them being like, yo, it's Luke.
Here he is.
This is Mr. Street Fighter.
Luke from Streets?
From Streets. Yeah, yeah, that'd be fun. And then yeah, Luke and Rock can be the new eras
versus each other, you know? I hope so. I wouldn't hate it if it was someone else. I
would like, in never in a million years, but it would be really fun to see a Jamie show
up for some reason. That'd be great.
I think Jamie overlaps with Gato a little bit too much they even share the same color palette and general look
Gato's not breakdancing though and he doesn't nor does he have that swagger
he's too angry but in any case I would say I would say not the the bigger threat is not goto. It's duck King
Duh, yeah duck King has not yet been announced. But if duck King is in this there's your breakdance fighter
So that that's that's what's up. Anyways
Yeah, I hope that this goes both ways
There was also on that note an announcement for the two characters in City of the Wolves,
Gaurot, so we got to take a look at Bi-Jane, who has always been, like, okay, she's a
great character, she's awesome, she's the fun pirate girl, great, just perfectly fits
in with the World of Fatal Fury lover, instant classic, and all of her alt-falcune costumes as well are, you know,
dead or alive, ready.
But she's always been striking because her kit has been incredible.
For all the new characters in that game, she's always had such an insanely good and complete move list
Quarter circle plus button in all directions at all times does a different good thing
Mm-hmm. It's crazy, you know like short slow fireball rock off the ground with her butt
counter stance that goes into the Smithers
Yeah, she does
Oh, is that what that is? Yeah, she does.
We're calling that the Smithers?
She hits him with the Smithers, man.
You see him go, oh, and get spun away.
The booty poppin'.
You know, here we've always been thinking that that B. Janay is about life, but she
might be a hometown girl as well, you know? It's good, it's good.
And then we got to take a look at the other new character, Vox Reaper.
So at what precise moment in that trailer did you know?
Did I know?
Did you catch on to what Vox Reaper is?
I thought it was Freeman's boy.
No. No, what is he was Freeman's boy. No.
No, what is he?
He's Grant.
What?
Look at his move list again.
You see him do a little Shoryu type thing and land.
Then later you see him do upwards into a dive kick.
You see him do a big charging lunge with his head and then the super hits and he
does the spiral
kicks and it's like, oh that's fucking Grant.
Oh that's Grant. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I just saw the dash.
Yeah.
Knocked him over. Okay. Yeah. That's Grant.
And then you see the little tattoo on his forehead, right? And you're like, what's going
on with that? And he, on the super, he puts the half mask on. So the description says
he's an assassin that tried to kill Kane years ago.
He failed, but he was good enough that basically Grant took him in and raised him and taught him how to fight.
So he's Grant's disciple and Grant's dead.
So this is this is who steps in afterwards as the young Grant, you know, aka the body switch, the successor, the new character with the
old moves, you know?
I mean, Phantom Fury and King of Fighters will do it.
Street Fighter won't do it though.
And yeah, so there's a new but old, right?
Something old, something new kind of character coming.
Looks cool.
I like the extensions we're seeing with the air fucking
drive rush shenanigans they got going on in that game. And most importantly, we've got
a theme song that is now entering what I called Fighting Game Trailer Corps, right? The trailer the the the the trailer music for
This and for KOF 15 and then
Tekken 8 intro so remember
All these theme songs with the vocals hitting on that j-rock j-pop style
Perfect, right? It's classic you get them going back to
How have we come so far and why did we survive? I'd rather live my life through honest eyes
You got to cross Tekken with that shit. The trailer core, baby. Fighting game trailer core is a thing. I love it
Yeah, we now have a full playlist of these tracks that SNK and cross-tech and and shit are using
One could argue that it started with
Indestructible what did start with indestructible one could argue right the moment you pop in Street Fighter 4 started with
Into free for Dragon's Dogma despite not being a fighting game.
Oh, was that hitting that J-Rock anthem?
Oh, have you not even heard it? Oh, dude, into the dang-an.
Oh, I mean, back in the day, but I don't remember it because I think I just heard it the initial time, you know?
Yeah.
But like with fighting games in particular and the SNK ones that at the end of the trailer
it cuts to that big vocal chorus moment while the characters doing their big super to finish
things off and then the announcer says some shit, shatter your expectations.
You know, like I'm all about that now.
It's very exciting for Garo.
Okay.
Now, beyond that, across those conferences, a lot of other things.
I mean, here, like, if you, again, jump into anything you want to bring up that was cool.
Okay, here's one. They showed off a tiny little trailer of Vowd on Xbox's show.
And then they put out a half hour fucking footage while we were talking.
Yeah.
And I'm like, shouldn't you have got...
We're back to, hey, why didn't you show this? There was no time. There was tons of time.
Yeah, there was a little like one minute or so a bit there
I mean, I don't know if have you have you clicked through it
I've looked at stuff. It's got it's mostly interview, so I'd have to actually listen to it
Okay, that Dragon Age trailers really funny
So they they showed off a trailer for Dragon Age.
About the Bethesda first person.
No, Obsidian.
Obsidian first person.
Yes, okay.
Takes place in the pillars setting.
Oh, okay, okay.
What was the, nevermind, it's okay, go ahead.
Okay, so Dragon Age is finally gonna come out.
It's called Dragon Age Veil Guard.
And it had a trailer that was obviously cooked up
during the Guardians of the Galaxy era.
Where all of your, it looks like a hero shooter,
it looks like Concord, if you remember talking about that.
Concord.
That was announced last week, it was the fake Guardians multiplayer shooter that Sony's
doing.
Oh man, okay.
And the trailer for it is goddamn awful, And it makes it look like Overwatch RPG, I guess.
That's the move these days.
And Dragon, I don't know how familiar you are with Dragon Age and how it has the worst
marketing ever for every game.
How every Dragon Age has the worst marketing?
No, I mean I know I've heard much of the game and the things in it, but I haven't heard
about the marketing campaigns.
So Dragon Age 1, which is like a serious RPG that's like Baldur's Gate, was exclusively
marketed to Marilyn Manson's This Is The New Shit music video.
OK. And like all the Dragon Age trailers were action scenes of the cut scenes with
Marilyn Manson yelling over them.
And it was fucking awful.
And then the tone of Dragon Age not Marilyn Manson.
Are you sure?
And then there's the tone of Dragon Age, not Marilyn Manson. No, no it is not.
Are you sure?
And then Dragon Age 2, which was like returned to Shit Mountain, was an entire PR cycle of
you hit the A button and something awesome happens.
We want something awesome to happen every time you press a button and it just looked
like shit. And Inisition was normal it was
like kind of normal right um and then uh now we're back to the the marvel overwatch trailer
or whatever you would call it um and it's pretty disappointing and then they showed
off like 30 seconds of the game and it doesn't
look anything like that it looks nothing like that at all it looks like a regular ass rpg
what's the here let me try yeah let me try to grab this dragon sage
is the stream dying for anybody else no no it's dying for us too don't worry about it I froze I froze also don't don't you worry about a game
oh shit you seem to be back on my end yeah I know I'm back now okay don't worry
about it the veil guard yeah no you can watch like fucking 30 seconds in the middle of that trailer in the middle
And you'll you'll know exactly what I'm talking about
Okay
Just dead ass
Okay, it's just a bunch of action shots of a bunch of heroes looking smug and cool and then going on the necromancer
There are a million videos loading up right now. So yeah, okay. I'm just gonna that's fine. I'm just gonna send this to you
Hey go faster
You you have any you have any any any feelings about
Slitterhead look like, that game looks terrible.
I'm super interested in it.
So Silent Hill 1 director, right?
And Gravity Rush.
Yeah.
Looks really action-y.
I wasn't... Didn't expect that. Yeah, I didn't expect that from that Pedigree introduction,
but then Gravity Rush part of it is like, oh yeah, that kind of makes sense. And then a whole lot of
Mindjack and or Omicron body swapping. And now I'm just kind of going like okay when's the last time
a game has done the body possession
thing and it's like worked out really
well what is that has that landed never
I did like there's all this games that
iron siren okay okay siren which was
also made by these guys oh Oh, they did it too.
But it wasn't body possession, it was just like the sight line.
Okay.
You're frozen again, so incoming.
Yeah, don't worry about it.
You'll drop and then you'll...
That's fine.
Okay.
Ghost trick's good, but you possess objects there.
Yeah, okay.
I guess possession into action, you know?
More than...
Yeah, Mario Odyssey does count.
That is true.
Yeah, but that game looks terrible.
It looks really bad.
And I'm super excited to play it. have so yeah I was gonna say like the does the does the Silent Hill one and
Gravity Rush pedigree how does that care I don't know how siren went but
sirens great but it's also kind of awful so like yeah bad yeah positive brackets Bad. Yeah. Positive. Brackets. Yeah. OK. That's November 8th.
Then there was a what else was there's a bunch of stuff.
The Power Rangers read is rewind.
Oh, that's cool. Yeah.
Side scrolling retro beat him up.
But that and I was like, OK, that's cool.
There's a it's a retro beat him up.
You know, we'll see. These can be good or bad.
It depends on whether the person
who's making the beat-em-up part
understands what makes those games fun or not.
It can just be bland and terrible
or it can be awesome River City Girl style
with a lot of variety to what you're doing.
And then it shows you like,
oh, there's a racing mini game
and then there's a piloting the Megazord mini game and like a couple other things going on. They're like alright alright
No, that looks pretty fun looks like a good four-player romp. That's gonna have a couple of different modes in it
If piloting the Megazord is gonna actually involve like all four four players doing their job though. That would be fucking great
That'd be cool, but it won't that's that's complicated
I
Guess we will just continue hearing about Killer Bean
for the rest of our lives.
There he goes.
Bye, Wully.
All right, time to reopen Discord
and just roll right through.
No problem.
Any minute now.
Ha ha ha ha ha.
Ah, all right. We'll get to the bottom of this. We'll get to the bottom of this.
We'll get to the bottom of this.
There we go.
Hey, welcome back.
There you are.
We will be hearing about Killer Bean.
Just indefinitely.
That thing is-
Have you watched Killer Bean? I haven't being I haven't I haven't but it's
It's wild it just every once in a while. They're like hey remember that shit. Yeah, we're still doing things I
I had a friend who was like bro. You got to watch killer being my okay, and then we watched killer being I'm like this was a
Veggie tail weirdly competent action movie considering the subject material. Yeah, that's that's basically what I've put it
Like everyone is like dog. It's super high-fell and I believe it. I mean the fact that we're getting new killer bean shit
It's really weird that like
The guy who made killer bean was like yeah
I blew through me and my wife's savings and
we're going to be destitute, but my wife believed in me and believed in Killer Bean.
And I guess he was right.
So, okay.
The VeggieTales era never left. There was an announcement for a PAL world update with a new zone, Sakurajima, and new
PALs coming to the game and a bunch of new content.
And the game is still in early access, by the way.
Yeah, they're truck way. They're trucking
They're trucking man DLC content has been announced
For an early access game that has yet to officially release
Just give them the money what give it to them
Yeah, that's insane. That's completely nuts.
It looks good too. That's the craziest part.
Yeah, it's a whole bunch of new shit.
But it's just like, is this gonna be a case where the entire life cycle of the game will be spent without them going to 1.0?
You know?
Oh yeah.
Who needs 1.0?
Okay, well, I mean I did fall off. If anything they're gonna go back in version numbers.
Get to version 0.
I went pretty hard a while, you know, when it dropped and then I did fall off, but
Yeah, okay, they're doing it.
There was some new dredge content announced as well. Speaking of oil rigs, that's cool.
I thought that game was done, you know? But the ice stuff was awesome. and I forgot what the name of that DLC was but...
The ice one.
Anyway, the iron rig, the pale reach, that was it.
The pale reach was pretty good.
And then yeah, now the iron rig.
And it seems like it's going to be not just an oil rig sort of setup but you've also got
the ability to customize the oil rig a little bit.
You're gonna, it seems like you have some control over how that's gonna be built.
So hopefully it's a little bigger than the last one because I remember you telling me that like you beat the last,
the ice DLC in like an hour or something. It's, it was, yeah, it was, it was very tiny.
Tiny DLC for a tiny game.
Or priced accordingly, but either way though more
dredge is great that game rules
sieve seven coming to consoles 2025 get excited to play it two expansions from
now okay that's how sieve games work ignore the ignore ignore until the first expansion comes out at least
Also, most people still just place of five. Oh
It's one of those situations. Okay. Yeah, you peeked and then just yeah, all right
Dragon Ball sparking zero more characters
I'm more I'm surprised that they don't have the words Tenkaichi in the title somewhere.
Yeah.
But I guess it's been a long time. Like, there's probably a new enough audience of people that don't really need to hear that word.
Like, it might not carry... It carries for people listening to this, but if you're one of the newer fans, like, it might, you you know perhaps they don't need to but yeah
it's it's all the chapters all the things you're playing through every
playing one episode and like they do with all these games because there's
only so much you could possibly do is like what if Vegeta and Trunks were the
ones who beat Cell whoa here's the cutscene I guess sparking is the
Japanese title.
Oh, okay.
So, I mean, then they're just not localizing it
to Tenkaichi then,
because the promotional material in English
has been called Sparking, right?
Gotcha.
Yeah.
I mean, I do remember one of the most impressive things
from early on was when the,
despite not meshing with the gameplay at all, the story mode stuff did have you essentially playing through episodes
of the show. So a lot of that is doing what it has. And when the actions flying flying
through mountains and fighting and shits going on, you're having a very clear, like, play through an episode of Dragon Ball experience.
And if that's your primary goal, then yeah,
it's gonna be good for that.
We saw some footage of Mecha Break, which is...
Looks good!
Looks cool, looks, yo, it is, that is just-
I wanna touch the robots.
Robot porn, it's very is just touch the robots robot porn
It's very pure and clear. That's what they're showing off
Every time they reveal a new robot they do so inside of a a
Hanger with steam and like lousy little parts getting put on and that's good. That's what you need to see
I saw someone say somewhere that
They have the xeno gearars mecha designer on it.
Junya Ishigaki and Takeyuki Yanase.
And I want that.
Metal Gear, Gundam Armored Core, and Xenogears, Xenosaga, and...
I like those robots.
Xenoblade Chronicles as well.
So a lot of that design aesthetic coming into these.
Yeah, man. If you're just, it's just, if you like the fucking robot doing the thing,
that's what you're getting here. And like there are no
humans or words or anything to be seen or heard in those trailers. It's just robots doing cool shit.
Alan Wake 2 Night Springs DLC. Yeah, this is great.
Literally out right now.
Is this where the control...
Hmm?
Answer, finish your question instead of just going,
What does that mean?
Control lady shows up in the trailer.
Yeah, she shows up, yeah.
Does that imply big, big, or imply small, small?
Is there a...
What the fuck are you saying?
Has there been previous massive control reference
directly in Alan Wake-ish stuff?
Oh yeah, absolutely.
Okay, all right.
There's characters from the Federal
Bureau of Control as main characters in the game story. Okay, but not her directly. No,
no, that's that. I'm that's all I'm trying to figure out. Yeah. Okay, cool. Sick. They've
they've they've I guess this is the this is the most direct thing to her as opposed to
the linking of other things cool
All right, well it also the the shit that happens at night Springs isn't real
Okay, I mean I mean
It is real in that it did happen, but it didn't happen anymore
It kind of makes sense.
I am asking a question about the announcement.
I haven't played the game.
I am trying to engage with the story before we move on to the next one.
If I play the game, I will get these answers.
Moving on.
Yeah, probably.
Among Us, animated series, and Outer Sloth. Sure, big old list of actors and names and stuff.
And then Inner Sloth as well.
Going to publish some stuff.
That's cool.
Yeah, like, I like the idea of a small studio that gets the ability to publish stuff that they think is cool and deserves some outreach is great.
I like when Harada is like, yo, Guilty Gear is awesome.
We're going to help publish that in territories where people don't have Guilty Gear.
But there's things where it's like, OK, team 17. They're not all hits,
but you know, dredge is great. And they've made worms. But
then there's some other stuff in there that was like, tiny
builds as well has been another one of those cases. But like,
yeah, it is it is something that is is ostensibly a noble goal that is like, hey, we have the
size and ability to push things that we think are cool now that our indie success is busted
out so we can help other things come along.
Yeah, it's nice.
And they're going to be working with, I think there's a new project from the Thirsty Suitors
creator.
So, yeah, we'll see how that comes along.
Blasphemous, there you go.
I think, yeah, indies are tight.
So when an indie breaks out and can kind of like, you know, bring the homies along for
the ride, That's cool. Alongside that, did you see Wander Stop?
I did. That seems like it could be an interesting thing. So the creator of Stanley Parable and
The Beginner's Guide, which, you know, that was a fun ride. I enjoyed that.
Gitter's Guide, which you know, that was a fun ride. I enjoyed that. Yeah, has a game that's like your kind of like a little cozy game. You're doing your work in tea. You're
a tea shop and you're making and mixing things and getting ingredients and all that. But
the main character is an ex fighter and seems to be having a really hard time getting it
out of her system and has some straight up big fight violence PTSD while
trying to relax and sip tea.
I don't know what that goes to, but based on Stanley Parable and Beginner's Guide style
game direction, I like the premise.
That could be real fun.
Hey, was that during the Wholesome Games Direct?
It was Summer Games Fest. Okay, so I feel like
me and Paige had like a long discussion
about the Wholesome Games Direct.
They should stop doing that
entirely.
Because
the Wholesome Games sub-category
is so laser-focused
specific that
every single game they showed
looked identical to the next and last
game they showed.
Oh no.
All of them were about wandering around farming, gardening, and running a cafe.
Kind of like Nintendo Direct that had like three farming games in one.
It felt like the stereotype of a Japanese high school's culture fest where they all just hide between a cafe and a haunted house.
Okay, okay.
But without a haunted house.
Or like opening up with a visual novel direct and all the ones you choose are set in a high school.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah, okay.
It's wild. It made them all blend into each other
and look completely forgettable.
I see, okay.
Now, like, yeah, cozy games are great and do fit in.
If there's a really good one that you throw on
for a little while that you can come back to,
there's a place in the schedule to unwind
and do something that's de-stressful,
but yeah, if it's just pick one of these
all very similar things next to each other.
And is it always like kind of like,
you know, floating isometric camera sort of thing?
No, they had different cameras,
but like they all had the generalized like friendly style,
which included like the same pastel color scheme and complete lack of like
conflict and like when I say conflict I don't mean fighting a monster I mean
like run a cafe it's not even like you pay your bills it's like ha wouldn't it
be wonderful to run a cafe and just chill?
But like they're all exactly like that. And it just like I described them as frictionless.
I mean, yeah, like, as people are like stardew definitely just took over that entire genre. And it did also stardew has combat.
I was informed when I was making this comparison that Stardew Valley has combat.
No kidding.
And like that that title could have been.
Well, so I mean, for me, I feel like you go Harvest Moon is as early as I
can remember that vibe becoming, you know, being exuded by a game. And then I guess like
Animal Crossing hits it, but that's much more social, you know?
Yeah.
Versus...
It had this weird thing where like every single game looked like a not quite as good Stardew Valley
or a not quite as good Animal Crossing.
And them like having, like particularly Animal Crossing
is like color palette.
Like you know all those soft warm colors.
Yeah.
Like made it very, very indistinct.
But one of the things that I brought up,
I was like, okay, because it was wholesome,
but it's slash in brackets, not really in cozy, right?
Is that like, I think of a game like Satisfactory, right?
I've talked about it before, and I'm sure you've seen it,
the conveyor belt game.
Satisfactory is really wholesome and really cozy.
It's not about destroying a planet,
it's just about making a nice looking factory
and it's really relaxing.
But it doesn't fit within the predefined aesthetic
of the wholesome game direct.
And so there was nothing like that at all.
That thing seems like a bad idea to show those games off like when you saw the
Latin-american games direct that was right afterwards
You saw Argentina. Why do I keep saying like Argentina?
Brazil and
Mexico primarily showing off games and they had regional flavors like all the Brazilian ones were
Japanese games made by Brazilian massive weaves yeah that's a huge flavor in a
lot of Brazil yeah I know exactly like one of one of the things that really
stood out there was a game from Brazil that like was so Japanese, it had Japanese voice acting only. Yeah.
Man, when you see like Pocket Fighter and,
oh no, god, what was the other one called?
There was another fighting game that was,
or two actually, there's three or four fighting games
that look like they were made in Japan
and they're just Brazilian.
Yeah.
Incredible stuff.
But there was also like, what if Argentinians made stalker for example, right?
Right, what if what if this what if that?
And it's like maybe it's because we know fighting games
But if there was like a fighting game direct and you showed off a bunch of them
They would look way more different
So this is where the wholesome games would and this is where I'm like, but if I had to play Devil's Advocate, because I'm someone
who loves, we love fighting games, I'm not someone who's like going deep on the wholesome
genre, so to speak, the Stardew likes.
If someone was as into them as we are into fighters, would it be a similar experience
for them where they're like,
oh no, these are all very different with these. Probably not because I feel like
I feel like they would just start telling you about animal crossing in Stardew Valley.
Because because if somebody is not into fighters and they watch a fighting game trailer lineup
and they go, yeah, I guess I mean that
Yeah, look like the same shit to me man
Because they're used to things being like first person and you know major camera differences and genre differences and stuff and like this one's 3d This one's 2d, etc
If someone is like really out on fighting games and they're like those all kind of looked relatively the same to me
Oh, I mean, I'm being informed by chat that I'm incorrect.
There are enthusiast wholesome gamers.
Yes, so that's where I'm saying, you know, as an enthusiast of a fighting game, I can
see and distinguish all of those.
Perhaps it's the same for other fans of the different genre that I'm not as into, but
as someone distant from it, it all kind of blends together.
Because that happens to me a lot
with other genres, for sure.
Yeah, it's possible.
We saw a little bit of another trailer for Kunitsugami.
God damn it, mouth.
Kunitsugami, Path of the Goddess.
July, so that's dropping. I was so much more interested in that game before they pulled the camera back.
Yeah, yeah, I know what you mean, but it might still be fun.
And it is tower defense, but it might be fun tower defense.
I still have a soft spot for like big full-on Okami ass
yokai designs and aesthetics I like I just I love yokai on on yukio a woodblock
and ink painting stuff man you know you know my problem again attention every
time my problem with tower defense is that whenever I see like a well put
together tower defense game all I can think of is how that those dog shit Facebook ad fake tower defense games where they're shooting like four billion zombies
Actually, yeah
The fake yeah, the the one girl jiggling that the game that that Nikkei actually is
That these stupid fake games aren't
And then she calls it an orbital strike and then you see a billion zombies blow up, and then the actual game is fucking block clearer
Like like the idea like you know can you to the Capcom game that we're talking about?
Has like you know lanes and monsters are coming in and they're all cool designed and all that and I'm like
I don't care about that. I want I want a
Unit cap level of Zerglings attacking Terran bunkers like based on the ads
alone I if you had to ask me what kind of game homescapes is or garden scapes I
swear it would be like eight genres oh that's like a platformer it's a puzzle
platform no wait you have to so when we to clear. It's a puzzle game. No, no, it's a SimCity like. Um, there might
have even been a first person ad. No, it's a one where you have it's a it's a story game
where you pick decisions in a dialogue tree. It's a visual novel, actually. It's it's just horseshit. Anyway, yeah, I hope
I hope the the this is this is fun tower defense. I've that
was something that I for the most part kind of was like,
yeah, I played tower defense games. There's a couple I
think there's like a flash game or two from the Newgrounds era
that I fucked around with. And then, what was the one?
There was one that was like,
I think it was like the whole design was like
you were literally playing this on a school desk
and you had to put erasers and pencils in the way.
Okay, well, anyway.
Yeah, we'll see how that goes
There was also Phantom Blade Zero from s game
If you want looks better than the last time they showed it
It's so unfortunately, it's starting to blend together with the other ancient China and ancient Japan
trailers that we saw for
Shit, what was the no oh no. There was another...
oh man, I can't... they're starting to blend together a little bit.
I started to like lose my mind. I was laughing so hard at like one of the aspects of watching
these trailers where the subtitles would... the closed captioning rather for a lot of these events would flip flop between describing something as Japanese style music and Japanese music.
And it seems totally random.
And for whatever reason, I thought that was the funniest fucking thing in the world
because it's for people who are completely deaf.
But they're making a distinction between the style and the origin and how the fuck these.
But they're making a distinction between the style and the origin and how the fuck these
This is this is this is Aping it and this or this is sounding like it but do you know guy who wrote the closed captioning? Do you know?
And just like the idea like at one point the phrase dramatic chinese music came in on closed captioning
It's just like I don't know.
Yeah, so there are quite a few of these games on the way. This is one of the more high octane ones.
But then last time we saw the one that had the... Oh my God, it wasn't the game show you know what I'm not gonna play this game never mind
Yeah, just yeah do it. Yeah, what on looks cool looks cool
There was games that we don't talk about don't matter. That's how it works here. There was some cool
doing the sword fight boss high octane moments and
Combat looks like you can do some cool things. We'll see how that goes.
Because now I'm gonna be like, okay, this is the one where you're in all black and you've got the
like curved rice hat and you can do, you get the revengeance camera angle at a couple points,
but then the other one was the one that had like Elden Ring hang time and it ends on the the yin-yang moment. I've been
informed that they showed off the Yaskay gameplay today in Assassin's Creed Oh yeah baby!
What else would there be?
God.
I'll always remember when I was watching Arcade and I didn't know who Echo was, but I just
saw him show up in the mask and he walks in and he's got a swagger and some trap music
starts playing and it's just like, oh, he is coded before that mask comes off.
Oh, you mean he's coded in the exaggerated swagger of a black teen?
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Goddamn. Yeah, yeah. exaggerated swagger of a black teen Absolutely, absolutely
Goddamn Yeah, yeah, that is no there's some full-on spider-man needs to start saying the n-word just so people know no that's but no no
Miles can't do that
Don't know for sure, but that would do you gotta you gotta start putting it out there
Don't know for sure but that would do you gotta you gotta start putting it out there
No, you can't do that. You gotta get people prepared. You gotta start setting it up
If he keeps the mask on he can't do it you don't know you don't know for sure. Oh man god There is there was an issue. What's the stop Peter from doing it?
So there was an issue spider-man there was an issue where Peter where to stop Peter from doing it? So there was an issue... I'M SPIDER-MAN!
There was an issue where Peter was on the stand in a courtroom and he goes, you know
what?
I know why J. Jonah hates me.
He hates me because I'm black.
And it cuts to J. Jonah like, what?
Uh!
No!
Sweaty.
What?
I?
Huh?
And he's like, I'm kidding. I'm kidding J. Joe. Just like what the fuck
That's great so good. It was such a good bit
All right
We got to see skate which yeah had the little skit with Tim
got to see Skate, which yeah, I had the little skit with Tim and skates skates coming back, but it's in pre pre alpha. So don't think about it until the console play test comes
out.
Oh, can I make a noise that's more audible? Pre pre alpha. I believe when I when I they
said that I said I have some pre for you bitch and or something like that
What a bunch of nonsense fucking words. I
appreciate
Skate when like you have Tony Hawk as the vert
High fun crazy soundtrack awesome game franchise and then skates the more like street level simulator grind
Chalk the the and wax wax the block type shit.
You're playing a guy, you're playing a two foot tall Oompa Loompa running around behind skateboarders
with your fish eye lens at the skate level.
However, in the time since then, we've had games like Skate Burb and Skate Story and hell, even parts of Thirsty
Suitors where you skate around and do some grinding and shit.
And the skates place in this world is not as important as it once was.
It's not.
You know?
Because yeah, there were two, but now there are many.
They should, you know, somebody in the chat lasered in on the fact that Skate 4 was announced
before the pandemic started. Yeah, we just haven't heard anything. That's a while ago,
and I feel like it's time to have another conversation of how long is too long to keep
your game in development after you announced it.
Yeah, okay.
I think we can all agree that it's five and a half years with nothing is too long.
And especially if you are on the tails of a Kickstarter promise, right?
Yeah.
So yeah, I think we can open up the conversation a little bit, right?
I think it's safe to say that Silksong has burned a lot of goodwill with its fan base at this point and it sucks because what comes from an
abundance of good and
earnestness to deliver
More game than anyone asks for way over delivered for Hollow Knight way over delivered with
Way over delivered for Hollow Knight, way over delivered. With such an affordable price for the amount you give, we actually start to see, I think,
a flaw in approaching games this way where I can think of times when back in my college
days I remember some incredibly talented
artists that I knew and worked with that were so so good but so so tortured by
never being able to put it out because the perfectionism and the desire to
just add a little more to over render to start from scratch to just add a little more, to over-render, to start from scratch,
to just get it fucking perfect,
meant that every time you saw something they put out,
it was unbelievable, but they were prisoners
in their own heads in their ability
to create and output something.
And-
Producers do fulfill an important role
in a modern day art piece, which is,
I don't care, ship it.
It's good enough. Yeah. Now, depending on the state of where your game comes from, whether the crowdfunding
is involved or not and so on, changes, whether you have obligations to communicate with people
and keep them up to date on where you're at, what's going on, and if you are off track
or on track. But I just think that Team Cherry like those good traits that made all those amazing things about Hollow Knight are the same kinds of traits that are probably keeping this in such a rough, weird, we don't know what's going on and it's taking forever and now the hype has faded into people just typing delete the sub, delete the delete the sub on this on the sub reddit and
I mean your ongoing bit
Notwithstanding
right
Where it's like it will it be at the wholesome games where will where will silk song come out? It's not a bit
I really I'm like kill it. Will the game ever deliver on?
The the promise now like is this just go song in our brains?
so I went I went down the rabbit hole last night and
Because I knew we were gonna talk about silk song today and how long it's been and how silly it's been and I wanted to
Reintroduce myself to the details to determine whether or not being mad or disappointed or
however I feel about it is silly or ridiculous or justified.
So step one is the 2014 Kickstarter for Hollow Knight in which the last backer reward that
people submitted for was a second playable character
Then the game came out in 2017 and that game was enormous and then had huge DLC support
That was all free and it's
It's probably my favorite Metroidvania one of the best games I've ever played in my entire life
Yada, yada, yada important to note. I'd say
played my entire life, yada yada yada. Important to note, I'd say, DLC that's stretch goals
that were kickstarted for, but free for everyone
who just bought the game as is.
So for some people, there's an obligation,
and for others, it's free content.
But we're not even there yet in this breakdown, right?
So then comes 2017's when the game releases,
and then there's a bunch of updates.
So around 2018, it's like, and all the other updates are done, maybe 2019, it's like,
okay, so where's the Hornet campaign though?
Because that's like the part that people really are excited for.
Where's the Hornet campaign?
And they kept saying it's coming, It's coming. They do Kickstarter backup days
Like we're really working on it. We want to make it something special and then in
2019 they announced silk songs gonna be its own game and
That
Everybody who backed it and would be getting the DLC for free on purpose regardless
They're gonna get silk song for free through through the Kickstarter and that makes sense, right?
But it's going to be a full game for everybody else, right?
So one of the first arguments you could make is like, well, I bought Hollow Knight on the
assumption that there would be a free DLC campaign with the second character.
I don't think that's fair because they massively over-delivered with the Grim Troop and the
Gods and Bugs and all those other DLC expansions.
I think that's a ridiculous complaint that I don't think anyone should take seriously.
But now we're in 2019, right?
And Sulk Song is announced and has no release date.
And the first problem that happens is that at 2019,
Nintendo shows off like a 25 minute demo for the game.
I didn't know this.
I found this yesterday.
That there is a Nintendo tree house,
20 minute long demo of Silksong.
Neither did I, holy shit.
Yeah, five years ago.
Okay.
With like a very, what, like it's two relatively small areas that they go through but it is like
It's working. It's running like it's it's alpha right, but it's it's there
This is then followed by
Coming soon, right
and
Then that is followed by
2020 is coming soon.
This is followed by 2021 where it's coming soon. This is followed by 2022, which is coming soon.
And here and there, there's a screenshot
or like it goes up on the store page,
but there's like nothing.
And then Microsoft shows off silk song in June of 2022 at their indie
presentation or whatever it was.
And they say that everything you see in this presentation is going to
be coming within one year of this broadcast, right?
At which point someone asks the Xbox
Twitter account, does this mean Silk Song is coming out
before June 2023? To which Xbox responds, that is exactly what we are saying.
And that's not Team Cherry. That's my Xbox. No, that's Xbox. Then, in, I think it was May of 2023,
or maybe it was June even, Team Cherry makes one
of the only update posts they've ever made going,
it's not going to make it this year, guys, sorry,
but we're working really hard on it.
And that's it.
That's the whole story of Silksong. So
literally nothing other than this before that 2023 team
cherry post. What was the last post from them? Was it from the
kickstarter? Oh god. It was on the kickstarter. It was on the
kickstarter 2021 and it was like we're working really hard and
we want to do something special. Yeah. And that was like a non-answer. So it's so like I said, it is a weird situation that you
have here where you have a mixture of obligation in the form of these stretch goals and free
content for people. Yeah. Hold up one second. There is a detail. The reason they said we haven't
been doing many updates is that they said, well, we've been working so hard on the game that we just have trouble finding time to make updates for you guys. Okay, okay, that is ridiculous.
Yeah. Um, I mean, when there are things that happen where like you have to up like, like, oh, literally, hey, we have to migrate our entire engine off of
unity or something that could be happening that right be happening right
now but those are things where like when communicated it's like okay you
understand this is a massive overhaul that is just like you're losing
progress it's not about like wherever you were at and then getting stalled out
right like if you if they came out right now and said,
hey, because of the Unity nonsense,
we are porting the whole game over into a new engine
that we are kind of unfamiliar with,
so we have technical debt and we're working on it,
but we'll keep you updated, here is one screenshot.
Yeah.
People would be fine.
And so, and then what also, an issue that happens here is that like, you know, in some cases when,
okay, like let's say Peter Molyneux makes some kind of announcement of some kind, what's
your first response?
Right?
That's not real.
That's a lie.
Let's wait to hear what perhaps happens closer to the actual release or so, but at least
the first or second thing you're going to hear is just not real.
So apparently the game has had a projected release date of nearly every quarter in 2022
and nearly every quarter in 2023 and nearly every quarter in 2024, and they just keep
pushing it. And I think the problem is that when they, if they say something, like they genuinely
do believe that that's the target they're going to hit and are finding themselves like,
it's not like, oh, we're just going to lie and say it's this and then we know it's, it's
forever. I think they genuinely think they're going to hit those targets because theness that they've generally again had throughout the campaign throughout the original game and everything
carries over here and you're looking at traits of
Just never like holding on to something not quite hitting the perfection that you're looking for
Perhaps over refinement perhaps like whatever the thing is the attention to detail that made everything so great about that first game is now the problem with putting
Out a second one. I think I think these are the same traits on display in two contexts
But one where you have expectation and anticipation and obligations
Turns it into a negative when you're communicating and even if you believe in the thing you're saying people go
But I know you're lying to me now because the thing you're saying, people go, but I know you're lying to me now because the thing you're saying, like even if you think you're close to that, if it doesn't
come true, then what's the difference than if you were to just lie outright from the
jump?
You know?
I think that they're trapped by having never given it a date.
I think that if they had a date that Team Cherry had to go out and announce was actually not going to get hit,
that would probably be very different internally other than, well, you know, when it's done means when it's done.
And we never know. There's no date. So you know what? Redo that whole area. It's not good enough. Let's we'll just redo the whole area
So this is where someone on the team often there will be so there will be
Someone who will wrangle and gonna go like hey there hat we have got to hit things at a point, right?
The person who does this is awful in the context of like hey Kotor 2 we got a ship
I don't give a fuck where this game is at.
We're shipping.
And 14 months later, you get what you get.
But in cases like this, that type of person
is also necessary when a project has completely
gone off the rails and is in development hell.
When you look at a game like, I guess, like Cuphead, for example, there is an understanding
almost in the insane level of, well, this is how it's made, this is how it's drawn
by hand, this is a team of two brothers and maybe one other person.
There's an inherent agreement that you're like, yeah, we're just never going to see
this and when we hear about something, it'll be nice. That's great
Everything about silk song has been
This went from being one playable extra character to being
Feature creepy game that's supposed to be twice as big as Hollow Knight feature creep and bloat in good ways because they make good things
But yeah, they do they make great stuff. They make great things, but it's always bigger than anyone asked for and bigger than anyone expected.
And, you know, that bigger than anyone asked for and bigger than expectations.
Like, it doesn't actually, I guess, mean anything after a certain amount of time
when goodwill gets burnt away.
And now we are realizing, I guess, the goodwill time range is what's that? Five years?
Oh, yeah. Well, it depends. Realizing I guess the goodwill time range is what's that five years? Oh? Yeah
Well depends what depends when you start counting right do you count from the deliver the the kickstarter?
Do you count from the delivery of Hollow Knight?
Do you count from the end of Hollow Knight's DLC or do you count from Sulk Song's announcement?
I guess the I guess from the end of DLC 2 is the fairest you know I think give them that
You can go on all those. I think from the end of Hollow Knight's active development
is the fairest, under which case it fails
my high school timing test.
I've been starting to think about this more and more,
and I know I've mentioned it here.
Can you graduate?
If you announce a game and you can do the entirety
of high school before that game comes out?
Development on it is fucked up
You shouldn't be able to get your fucking GED. I'll take that normal. I'll take that metric. That's fair
That's fucked up. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, right
But I think the I think for our I think
emotionally But I think emotionally, there is a timeline that makes the most sense, and that is from
June of 2023 until now.
It has been one year since the deadline of the only release date the game has ever had
with no replacement release date.
This one year since then is the part where people are actually getting really mad because
the game had an implied release only for them to let that clock run out before saying, oh,
no, no, no, we're not going to hit it and then not provide anything else.
Right? If that Microsoft show came out and said everything's coming out this year and within a month, a saying, oh, no, no, no, we're not going to hit it and then not provide anything else.
Right. If that Microsoft show came out and said everything's coming out this year and within a month, Team Cherry was
like, we are not coming out by June twenty twenty three.
Then people wouldn't have been like every show of twenty twenty three going,
this is going to be the one where they
announce Silksong and it's only got two more months to come out.
Which then led to, oh, well, it could be any,
and they're gonna shadow drop it
because Hi-Fi Rush is now,
and they're partnered with Game Pass,
so now everyone's gonna think they're gonna shadow drop it.
Which they're not.
So then here's the question, right, ultimately,
is you have nothing but bad news for the fans of the game
when it comes to announcements,
but it's up to you to choose how to communicate them
and how frequently, right?
You're never gonna say anything people wanna hear.
What is the best way?
What is the best balance between, you know,
absolute radio silence, you'll get it when you get it.
We're putting our heads down and working on it,
philosophy versus constant communication, but ultimately, every time you communicate, it's the it's the say that
it's sorry it's not coming yet.
I think that the time for that question is four years past. I think what needs to happen
now is they need to explain what's taken so goddamn long. Just like we switched engines and we want like literally we switched engines and
we wanted the game to be really big.
And and and four new screenshots and we're going to try and
get it out by this year, but we're not sure how long would that take to actually
say like like 15 minutes to get the screenshots?
Yeah, it's it's it's a philosophy you're looking at. You're probably looking at Team Cherry's
their design philosophy is probably to minimize communication and just deliver whatever they
deliver. And I think, yeah, so the Deltarune blog posts are a pretty good-
Deltarune is posts are a pretty good...
Deltarune is like, it's so directly applicable too!
That's a really good alternative version of events here.
Hey what's going on?
Oh we hired a couple new people and work on chapter 3 is going really well and we just
started the planning for chapter 4.
I'm used to making games...
We're done for a year!
We're done for like a year on that!
I'm used to making games on my own with for a year. We're done for like a year on that. I'm used to making games on my own
with just a few other people like Temmie's there
and barely and we just keep it.
But now this has gotten big in scope and size.
I gotta work with a lot of other people.
In fact, not only is this gonna take some time,
but we're hiring.
If you have a CV and you wanna work, send it over.
This means it's gonna take a while.
Also here's a cute picture of a dog.
Done. Yes.
100% just a very honest, you know, thing. Yeah. And of course, you know, Delta gets to operate in the like space of
like, no obligations because it's a like, I mean, the first
there's it's like a multi part chap multi chapter game and,
you know, you got part of it
But there's no Kickstarter goals to hit or any one that's being held up in terms of I should also mention
Like before this or so let me check on this
Oh
Wow these are perfect so undertale came out farther ago
Than Hollow Knight did.
Okay. It came out in 2015, whereas Hollow Knight came out in 2017.
And chapter one of Deltarune came out in 2018.
And then chapter two came out, wow,
chapter two came out three years later I
Whoa, it doesn't really holy shit, okay, so yeah
things happened and and
Then they happened again
It's been three years since that is everybody screaming at Toby Fox. Where's chapter 3? No well for one
You got jorking it to skeletons
well, because you got you got like
Silksong act one out and people got to touch it and go. Oh shit. I was not expecting this at all
This is cool. Wow. Hey fun new game chapter one. Okay, cool. We'll see where this goes
You know also people are mentioning like the pandemic the
this goes. You know, also people are mentioning like the pandemic. The but just the thought like the time between Undertale and the next Undertale thing was
not filled with anyone expecting there to be an Undertale 2. Yeah, absolutely. How many
people is Team Cherry? Is it three people? No idea. But I think it's I think it's three people.
So actually another studio MDHR situation then another super
minimal team. Such would make perfect sense here. It's three
people are saying it's three people. Okay. I don't think the
pandemic affects teams of three people who two of which are
family members
Oh my god, I don't think that actually affects
If that at all that's actually exactly the cuphead studio then like with the brothers and then I think one of their wives was Like like I think literally that was the um
Yeah, um hire more people
Yeah, hire more people. They're in Australia?
Just say they got attacked by a fucking animal or some shit.
Hire more help with what money?
With what money?
Just say that the drop errors stole the code.
Yeah, so that's it, that's it.
It's a weird thing every time you kind of start to feel
goodwill turn on something.
And it turns faster when expectations are
from the moment the last one dropped.
It turns faster when there are Kickstarters involved, and it turns
even faster when you do not communicate, and this has all three of those boxes checked.
I think that the hire more people thing is actually kind of silly because that assumes
the issue with Silksong is labor.
I have heard and talked to many people making a lot of games and
Wully you have heard and talked to way more people making way more games and
the gut feeling that I have on this game is that a version of it has been more or
less done for like years and years. Oh yeah the version that's not twice as big as Hollow Knight has been
done for a long time. The version that is double the size of Hollow Knight and continues
to be granularly perfected as we go on and as time passes and as suns and moons swirl
around the earth, as Harry Potter franchises begin and end, as Lord of the Rings trilogy
begin and end, as wars are started and end, etc. as we go through the Duke Nukem Forever
time cycle, the Bayonetta 3, etc.
Yeah, there was the version that could have been delivered on, but that was not enough.
And so far, the goal has been to over deliver.
I feel like feature creep and perfection is what you can point this at.
A million percent.
I think they're running into a second problem.
The second problem is people who aren't way into it.
I've forgotten that Silksong exists and when Silksong gets re-announced or whatever, people
buy it and they'll be like, yay.
People who are way into it.
I'm going to finish your point.
People who are way into Sulk Song and Aura Hollow Knight and have been following it as
such and have the gut feeling of like, well, they must be fine tuning it to be perfect.
Means the expectation is that when it does come out, it'll be perfect.
And expectation.
And now they are making a game with people's expectation that
it is going to be perfect.
Fuck.
Yandere Simulator.
There is one X factor here. And that is when you're talking
about a team size of that small. This is not so dissimilar from like a mangaka also getting sick or internally losing the spirit or the drive or something or any other circumstance in a whether
you're talking about the hunter hunter creator or in a way or any of that
things like that can affect a game where it'll stop production to a crawl if one
person is the person that this whole thing is hinging on there the right and
there could be issues happening that they're not gonna be public about
that are affecting production as well.
That's totally possible.
A larger team would compensate for
and move around responsibilities,
but here you can't really do that.
I think they would, if that was the case,
I think they would be totally in the clear
under one small condition, and that's that this was a standalone
announcement that was not technically tied to the Kickstarter.
This game is still technically a way out of date backer reward.
Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
So as a result, I mean I looked over the the the tears there are some people that paid like 1200 Australian dollars or you know
$1,000 to back Hollow Knight
Yo, that was like
Give them their fucking so give those people their silk song update
Imagine my surprise playing Hollow Knight walking into that tomb and seeing zoo bugs
We did not do that. That was not us
We didn't put zoo buzz in the game. That's the funniest one ever by the way that was somebody else
I don't like you know who was
And thus begins the zoo buzz everywhere system, you know
That's that's when we knew it had left our hands that had gone too far incredible
So yeah, yeah, no that's that's exactly it is
Take the PR guy you've hired and have him announced that the Sun has commanded that this game so I
would like to
So I don't want to put to point up to close a point on it because I'm sure this guy is really nice,
right?
But I have found, or rather I've been linked to the PR and marketing publishing person
for Hollow Knight Silksong.
His name is Matthew Griffin.
He's got 40k followers on Twitter. He is hilariously enough
also the marketing and publishing guy for
cross-worn
The game that looks just like oh
Huh the other
The other Hollow Knight at home. Oh really yeah, like it's really funny
And I think there was a comment at some point where Silksong will definitely come out before Krosworn. Man, that feeling
is so weird when it's like, yo, look at fucking stellar blade. Look at this near automata
shit. Can you believe how they're cribbing off the notes of near automata? Wait, that's
the same music composer. Wait, they're actually linked in a much more direct way than you thought whoa oh should I not have named that guy it's on his public Twitter I'm
I didn't realize that was a what I saw folks in the chat saying that I should
not have used his name but his name is right there on my screen and on his
Twitter that is all is that where he tweets the stuff from yeah, it's his 40k Twitter following
So what the fuck are people talking about? I don't know I don't
But I
look at this and
I I'm like he's the marketing director
It's already marketing and publishing guy for Hollow Knight silk song and cross-orn. Two games that are not coming out and don't have any marketing?
So what are you doing?
Is Crowsworn not coming out?
It's just like Silk Song in that it has no date and no previews and no nothing
Okay, but it was announced a lot newer. It's newer. So it's got a little more leeway on the track before we make those claims
I don't think we have to put it straight under that's not real. It's never right. Yeah, but like but
But why what do you?
Market it okay. Okay. Give me a screenshot!
Yeah, and now we fall back into Pat's metrics
for that game's real and not coming out
being much more aggressive than.
Oh, absolutely, here's the thing though.
To the children in the audience,
I was following video games
when Duke Nukem Forever
was happening.
Much to my chagrin, that game actually did come out.
I think a lot of things get delayed, again, in earnest, and when things go wrong and you
will eventually see it and it might be a shadow of itself, but there's always that possibility.
There are things when you look at it,
the moment it puts a trailer out,
like Shenmue Online, where you're like immediately.
Oh man, that was like the, oh man.
That's the number one in my brain.
That's the fastest your brain has ever said.
We both had the same reaction when we saw that, right?
Where it was like, that is a fake game,
and it's not gonna happen. This is the most
fake game I've ever seen in my life.
I can't believe how not real this trailer is.
That was so fucking funny.
Right? So yeah, no.
And Beyond Good and Evil 2 presentations.
God. There are times when you could just nip that in the bud.
I am being informed that Crowsworn has a dev that puts up clips of the game every week or two weeks.
Okay, there you go.
So it is definitely not marketing man's fault.
That that game is not being shown.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is weird, though, because now you're taking all of this
discussion, but you're applying it to a giant studio that has put it back in the
oven and pulled it out 15 times trying to figure out
what they want it to be.
Are you talking about Beyond Good and Evil 2?
Yeah, yeah, and the genre and then the eras of
Ubi's microtransactions, gas games,
whatever versions going through,
it must have had a million iterations of that
nonsense over time to the point where you saw
some gameplay footage
that it was, because they had already done the,
hey look, it's Paige, you got Jade and Paige,
and they're at the car and they're like,
oh, they're doing the little it's about time
CG rendered thing, and then they're like,
no, no, no, people need to see gameplay.
So then they did the monkey surfing cut scene.
Yeah, which was also not gameplay.
And it was not gameplay.
And then and then I want to say, like, it wasn't there eventually.
Like they like I think there was something of in game
that it popped up at some point, and it was like, OK, we're out of fake things
to show you. So so now just silence.
I'm not comparing Beyond Good and Evil to to like Ubisoft's
like long history and all that stuff.
I compare Beyond Good and Evil to to Skull and Bones, a game that they literally never
intended on finishing and were using tax breaks to scam Singapore out of money so that they
could have a vacation spot for their Frenchmans.
And promotion scams. I think Elden Ring compared to Soul Song is probably the best example because
Elden Ring didn't show off nothing for years and years and years.
And we had a conversation about Elden Ring about how that game feels like it's caught
in development hell and stuff like that.
But remember that, you know, remember when Beast Souls was a silent thing that nobody
knew what was going to happen?
When is it coming?
What is it?
Is it real?
There was a leaked video of a dude in a yard looking what?
What was that?
Beast Souls.
Yeah.
But FromSoft also, again, has the benefit of the only announcement and expectation for
future projects is fan hype that they're going to keep making games, right? It's not attached
to a publicly crowdfunded you owe us thing. I think SoSong is in a slight degree at the mercy
of the history of video game expectations. And what I mean by that is that I can think of two games that took
way too long to develop that did not have enough of the game being shown off. One was Cyberpunk 2077
and the other was Elden Ring. And my expectation from a long history of playing games has been
if a game takes more than six years to come out, it's either gonna launch like a busted pile of shit,
or be wildly beyond my expectations.
So if I was met working on Silksong,
I would feel that I'm stuck in a place
where I now have to exceed the expectations,
which maybe I can't do, maybe the game's not big enough what if
we added more but everything about Hollow Knight has been about exceeding
expectations yeah yeah so you know this this almost feels as if like what if
Sakurai game philosophy was him working on a project on his own right as opposed
to having all of how there with him. Because Sakurai really just screams the kind of dude that is like,
I'm going to put it all in the game.
I'm going to never stop putting it.
I'm going to put more.
I'm going to put more.
Dude, you should put the game out.
No, I can do more though.
We can do more.
How much can we fit on this cartridge?
Invent new tech.
Make it heavier.
So here's the thing with Sakurai though, right?
Because Sakurai doesn't trade release date time for content.
He just damages his body.
Oh yeah, he sacrifices time on his clock.
He takes blood and puts it in.
Exactly, he slices and drips it into the code. 100%. It's coming from somewhere, but yeah,
he's damaging himself in the process, make no mistake.
Don't do that by the way. It's not worth it. Nope. Nope. Nope
But if you decide not to do that
Tell everybody perhaps. Yeah, tell them let them know. Hey guys, they could I could bet you they could say we will give you guys One screenshot every three months until the game is out and that would make people be quiet a little bit
Hey guys, I've blood sacrificed.
I've lost at least seven years of life in the trade.
It's kind of like a death note rule a little bit.
But hey, everyone is here.
Oh.
Hey, I gotta take a quick break.
BRB.
Hey, I gotta take a quick break. BRB.

So just before we jump back into some of these announcements,
I actually wanted to mention something up top in the weeks that I completely forgot.
Let's hit it.
I am going to be on the other side of the world for a moment in the near future
and
Yeah, me and punch bomb are gonna go visit Greece. Oh nice. So that's gonna be that's the flag
That's on your shirt
Yeah
Video and arcade top ten no you have a shirt that says grease
God I haven't worn that in a million years. Yes. Yes grease with its Union Jack. That's correct
Favorite shirt you've ever worn yeah, yeah, people would look at it go
questions
Calispera. Tiganis.
Ah.
Elare.
So, yeah, I'm gonna, I gotta go taste some, some hero from the motherland.
I gotta get some suvlaki and spanakopita and galaktoburiko and all that.
We're gonna get in there and I gotta taste, I gotta get my favorite food as, as close
to the source as possible. If I can find the one old lady that can do it, the purest, that's the goal.
So gonna check it out a little bit.
I'm gonna obviously go see some of that old shit, all that cool shit.
There's old shit in there!
Yeah.
But at least one of those days I'm gonna try to see if it's possible to meet if anyone's from Greece.
I don't know how many. I'm gonna have... We can check the numbers to see what the listeners...
I'm sure there's at least 0.5% of people who hear this are from Greece.
When I went to Amsterdam, there were a couple folks there that came and hung out at an arcade,
and it was pretty cool to shoot the shit with some people from Amsterdam and stuff.
So if there are or happen to be folks from Greece, I will be there and yeah, I'll see
if I can figure out a situation or a place.
If people have suggestions that are from there that know somewhere in Athens to have a little
meetup where people can chill, maybe play some games or not. Just chill, have a drink and talk or so.
Then yeah, let me know, hit me up on Twitter.
I'm coming to your neighborhood.
I'm not, I was ambitious and in New Zealand
I was able to make it to the FGC
on both the South and North Islands.
I don't know that I'm gonna have the ability
to hit up the Greek fighting game community,
but at the very least it would be nice
to just like
meet some people, get some recommendations on the real shit to do and the fun stuff,
you know, and get the list of things like, hey, whatever you do, don't go to Mykonos,
don't go to Santorini, etc., etc., you know.
Don't do it.
Yeah, more on that.
So hit me up and I'll put out some details on where and when, I guess.
But I'm currently trying to figure out a venue for that.
So if you are from Athens and you've got ideas, talk to me.
All right.
Yeah.
Okay.
So back to the announcements.
We hit all the big ones.
There was also just a couple of statements that came out.
Phil Spencer said, hey, I think we should have a handheld Xbox too.
And he said that in an interview with IGN and it's like, uh, yeah, there's a Steam Deck.
It's called the Steam Deck!
You're done, goodbye.
The time was before the Steam Deck.
The time was like eight years ago!
Peace out, God bless, it was real.
And then they announced a couple of different Xbox skews and so on and so forth, but
They showed a trailer off for Gears of War E-Day. Oh man
So I was not familiar as to why people thought that was so funny and now I know why that's so funny
Uh-oh, I don't so I know
Gears of War 5 ends with a massive super cliffhanger. That's been ongoing for years
Gears of War 5 also has a choice at the end of it of which
Which of your like in Mass Effect of like which companion will you sacrifice to save the day or whatever?
And so they're just gonna let that sit that hangs even longer
Well I will say that in terms of like as someone who hasn't paid attention to any of the later of that franchise
That being like oh shit. It's emergence day. I'm like I was there
That's the only thing I want I would like to see out of years of war actually it's the most interesting thing that ever happened in the game setting ever.
You nailed the one thing for someone who is completely out who cared about just the
beginning of that franchise you nailed the one thing that could have made me
go it's emergence day Day, the game.
And I'm like, I legit care to see about what that was like
with the sudden, insane, instant, overnight fucking loss.
Like war everywhere in every city simultaneously
across the entire planet.
Yeah, no, that would be crazy.
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
And then, I mean, I feel like we've talked about that when it
dropped about how nuts that was in the setting. And yeah, like
just showing you I guess, young Phoenix and, and Dom and them
and you're gonna have it zooms out to show you the giant hole
and the cities are still around. So yeah, you did it guys. You
picked the thing that actually
activated a neuron
I'm curious to see what that's gonna be like
emergence day
And they they also went for the recapturing of the mad world energy in the trailer
Which I want to say they've done each time since then right?
They've been doing that.
Oh yeah, no.
They slow Mad World down further and further on every trailer.
I have a quote about the ending of Gears 5 that somebody pulled up for me.
Shout out to Dad Asuna.
I appreciate it.
The question is, hey, we lost some main characters, some big characters.
How did you think about that? The way that it worked out in the story?
Dev responds, our big thing for this game was challenging expectations through player
choice.
We've never had this kind of choice before in a Gears game, where you can affect who
lives and who dies.
We wanted to put it in a place where it made sense.
If you do it too early, we'd have to almost make two different games.
We wanted to make sure it was at a place where we could support the decision content-wise, but also we wanted to make sure that you spent enough time with
both of them.
I'm really curious to see how all that plays out and
what that means for the world going forward.
We haven't decided yet.
But at least in the short term, we wanted to have that experience.
Did you play Bioioshock Infinite?
Isn't it, isn't it awesome when a franchise runs to the past because the future needs to be escaped? They literally have put a fucking, they put, they fucked, they did it with no plan.
And now when they thought about making a game where they would have to actually deal with the
thing they did did they're like
prequel
No confusion. I devil may cry
Absolutely counts as a franchise that ran to the past because god fucking damn it
We're not we don't want to sort we don't want to figure this shit out yet
We'll get and then when it was done with the past, it jumped forward and said, yeah, that happened
a little bit.
Don't worry about it.
Over here.
Hey, you looking?
Yeah, over here.
Hey, check it out, Nero.
And yeah, Star Ocean just keeps going further and further back in time also.
Oh man, God.
Every time a game makes a definitive moment and you can't jump past it.
You know, Third Strike was a little bit like that
in that it was such a bold choice for the franchise
and it had so many new faces
and such a different direction that you're like,
oh, so then are all the old fighting characters gone?
And it's like, nah, nah, nah,
they're just hanging out over there.
Here you go.
Street Fighter IV is before this,
but then afterwards they're still around, it's fine.
I have a bold thing to say about video games.
I think this might be a hot take.
I think if you have a video game,
that you have any plans of ever following up
in any way at all whatsoever,
having a big dramatic decision where you pick
whether or not a main character lives or dies is a massive fucking mistake and
that you should not do that. I think I think the fucking hoops they had to jump
through in the Mass Effect games, depending on who
was alive, were terrible.
Do you think that it's bad that no matter what happens, you got to stare at Liara in
that big old romantic way at the end and that she's got to pick up your stuff in the cut
scene even though she might have very little to do with who you give a fuck about?
Or actively dislike you.
I think it is a terrible idea.
Awful.
I think that it's possible, but you have to be incredibly talented at handling the cascading decisions.
And so far I feel like, my impression is Lian is able to figure out a way to make that work
things
Matter oh they put the games hundreds of years apart
So it doesn't matter
Divinity original sin 1 and Divinity original sin 2 okay are just like hundreds and like thousands of years apart actually okay
And in Baldur's Gate 3 where you have characters like Jahira who could have died
They go fuck you who the fuck played Baldur's Gate 2 and let Jahira die
She's alive. Oh, just oh just shut the fuck up then yeah, okay? Yeah, what are you stupid?
Okay, so snake rolls through and he's like infinite ammo, and you're like, but that's not and then you and then you talk to
Jahira and go hey, do you fuck a ball spawn and she goes some people say I did
Anyway, that's none of your business
Because then you see Otacon and you're like, oh no Merrill's dead
Oh, no, Meryl's dead and I think dude
Saying both things happen. Shut up is like the funniest thing ever they both sat on the back of that fucking snowmobile you son of a bitch ah
Just shut up. They're fine. They said side saddle you piece of shit
Meryl's big ass and Otacon butt to butt and they zoomed out while we got go and you fill out the form to tell
the Dragon Age Veilgar who you did what and what game every single time so they can have like five
second interaction differences for four cut scenes in the game. I did that for Inquisition. It was
I did that for Inquisition. It was awful. It was terrible.
I took me like an hour and a half to punch my decisions in. And then when I played Inquisition,
I didn't see one of those things pop up.
I was really curious about how 2 was going to handle it.
And it did really pare it down to like that little comic
with, I guess, maybe 10 decisions or so.
You know, and then save editor for granularity, you know. But yeah, getting down to the nitty
gritty on that sounds really not fun. Well, look forward to a future of either Gears of War,
who gives a fuck about that decision, we're way past that, shut up, here's new shit.
Or with the breakout success of E-Day,
we are now going to be creating
Gears of War E-Day 2 through 4.
As the new direction of the franchise.
The next one would be Gears of War,
what's it called? Pendulum Wars?
It's the war over oil that got fought before E-Day?
I guess?
The people reference in Gears of War 1?
Wait, but did that even involve like...
Was that just a human war?
No, it was just humans.
Fuck that. But also, you know what you can do? even involve like there was no human war no it was just humans that but also you
know what you can do you could go even earlier for when those people left
earth why'd they leave earth because of war probably okay hold on if we go back
to a human versus human war in gears the chainsaw bayonet becomes a psychotic fucked up
insane thing. Yeah. That becomes way darker. Like it's like you're dooming on
people that are just other people. Wully, don't worry. They'll be an excellent, I'm
gonna say it right now and if it ever happens somebody go back to this podcast
and tell me I'm a genius. Don't worry, the chainsaw bayonet wouldn't make any sense as a standard issue equipment
for your average guy fighting your average guy over oil. But it's going to be crazy that
the second playable character, the guy you play in co-op, well he's a tinkerer you see
and he wanted an extra oomph to his
standard issue Lancer so he jury rigged a chainsaw on the bottom of it and was like isn't that cool?
and it has a red core and that's gonna be the fucking end of the first trailer
I'm the special guy that did it oh shit there it is yeah and then there'll be a
line going man they should should really make Standard issue yeah, yeah, yeah there you go
Man calling in a hammer of dawn. Oh my God
Call I I'm being informed that the creation of the chainsaw gun is Marcus
Taped a chainsaw to a standard issue Lancer in a previous game in the books in the books okay he
did he did the thing oh yeah the thing I just described my actually big in a day oh that's so
funny please look forward to acquiring a new experimental weapon
that involves you tracking a laser onto the enemy
and then calling down the thing that fails
and you click the button and it doesn't work
and you go, this piece of shit doesn't work.
Ah, god damn it.
You throw it out and you go back to fighting.
Ah.
Maybe I'll get this thing to work one day. Man, I hate that shit about people. You're I hate that shit right. I hate it. I hate it
Like general ram sharpening a knife
Just just
Just doing you know taking a good look at it nice and shiny and sharp
Doesn't do anything with it yet oh man
yeah this is gonna be great actually um all right so yeah they showed off e-day we got
to see a little bit more asscrete shadows and yaske and uh i i can't i look forward
to jumping in and hearing that soundtrack i didn't't I didn't Didn't catch it. Um
About footage right we talked about yeah, I'm gonna watch that afterwards. It looks it looks like Skyrim, but but pillars
It's good Indiana Jones in the great circle
so I saw a trailer for the new Indiana Jones game coming out and I guess I'm curious because I'm like we're
Were you able to did they say what genre this is slash were you? Yeah, it's a Wolfenstein game
But you play as Indiana Jones instead. It's a first person really. Okay Wolfenstein. It's it's a Wolfenstein
Okay, okay
Is it insane to kind of want Indiana Jones games to to be point-and-clicks?
No, no, it's not.
You know?
No it's not.
We're still, like, we got graphics, everything's pretty and that's all good, but you still
have to click on that rock and that whip and click whip 2.
Okay.
Yo, Doom the Dark Ages.
We finally did it.
We got Samus with a cape on, we got Master Chief with a cape on, now we got Doom Man
with a cape on.
The trifecta can be in your Fortnite team.
And he's got the shield, he's got a shield.
He's got Captain America, but what if Captain America wasn't a pussy and put knives on it? What if Captain America just like had well actually he probably does have scientists getting sopping wet, but like
Yeah, before he was a hero. He was a badass
I was like what the fuck kind of intro text is like yeah, okay, right? Whatever
It's doom man. It's Doom, guy.
And very important, for two seconds of that trailer,
he jumps inside a fucking Atlan mech.
Actually, what's way more important is that the director
is the director of Doom Eternal
and did an interview right afterwards.
He was like, yeah, we're not gonna do
the Doom Eternal thing where you have to use
certain weapons on certain enemies,
you can just do whatever on whatever.
Okay, okay.
We want you to be able to use anything on anything
and have it work.
Also, those shots of the gameplay they showed
had really wide open fields.
Yeah.
Like, maybe, it's been a minute for me,
but I feel like all the areas were tighter arenas
than that.
They were.
That looks like the most wide and open-ended aspect thing that looks super different.
So yeah, just combo your way through in whatever way, from one side of this giant field to
another.
Sick.
Run it.
That looks cool.
I like Doom.
I can't wait to play it on Steam.
That was like the overwhelming feeling of watching the Microsoft thing,
is like a third of these studios will be closed,
and every game I'm watching I will play on Steam.
Like it's called the Xbox event, but it's also just the Steam event.
the Xbox event, but it's also just the Steam event. You know Doom is another setting that actually has more...
Well, you know, having not seen the DLC for Eternal, there's stuff that I don't know
about, but I feel like there's cliffhanger endings and unwrapped up shenanigans.
Bro, that DLC is not cliffhanger-y at all.
It is definitive.
Okay.
That is that.
There's a reason why they're doing a prequel for Doom,
because there is nowhere to go after the end of Doom Eternal.
Sick.
Is there any word on the music?
It's made by the guy who did Doom Eternal's DLC music,
which was good.
Wasn't quite as good as Mickordon, but it was pretty okay
Okay, the guy who had to jump in to pick up the pieces after that mess with the LST
Yeah, okay, oh hey, you know if I have to go at four o'clock which is in 15 minutes yep
But if there's even one if there's only one game we talk about I want to talk about that 33 game
expedition 33
Okay, did you see that no? It's get it's got Ben stars handsome ass voice
Narrating it that sounds good best. I was a turn-based RPG out of America
He's he's he's got the same he's got the same burning
fire in him that Alex Lay has to be a meme voice actor god bless he sounds so
hot it's called Claire obscure Expedition 33 doesn't just sound who's
making this sandfall interactive sandfall interactive. Sandfall interactive. Okay, so
Yeah, you can watch the trailer in the background while we're at it. So basically it's a game pass day one. It is a
Where is sandfall interactive? France. Founded in 2020 in France. So
It's a it's a setting in which
in France. So it's a setting in which some painterly magic bitch just writes a number and every one of that age just fucking dies.
Okay.
So she writes the number 34 and everyone who's 34 just fucking dies.
Okay. Okay. So they're like, we, we gotta go get that bitch and use use the art like
a turn based RPG system in a very, very pretty looking setting. Wow. I mean, it's pretty.
Um, I mean, this is all super pre rendered, of course. Uh, that's a fucking insane... Oh they just get Thanosed.
Yeah. Okay. That's a wild premise.
These are former Ubisoft devs, apparently, who made a new studio.
So that's cool. There is a detail about it that you might be personally interested in.
A lot of the, on their team website, a lot of their favorite games for the team members
are listed as Final Fantasy.
And the game's original code name was Project W. No shot!
Yep.
Wow.
Who is Sandfall Interactive?
Yeah, yeah, see I knew this was gonna happen!
Okay, okay, hold on a second.
You know, funny, um...
It is funny, isn't it? Isn't that a funny detail?
It is a funny detail because, um, I wanna say that another detail that happened was the new Fable game that was announced at the Xbox Showcase is getting support development from Eidos Montreal.
That's true.
They've unexpectedly announced that, yeah, they're
going to be working on this.
What is this?
So Sandfall Team is Guillaume Brouche, Tom Guillermin,
François Merriss, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen,
Nicolas Maxon-Francom, Laurien Testa, et cetera.
Okay, yeah.
Okay, interesting.
They're currently hiring.
So, Kai9 in the chat asks a really important question,
or rather statement.
I don't get it.
I will then add to that, did wooly light up and laugh when I said project w?
Well we can go to
YouTube to find out project w was the name what yeah
What does YouTube have to say about about well about all this well?
About about well about all this well bunny hop put out a video bunny hop put out a video did he?
He did project w a long time ago
So you could reference that?
Instead of asking wooly which is I just Montreal was making a Final Fantasy game
And it was called project W
What else does the video say I haven't watched it in years, okay, but the long and short of it Yeah, yeah, what else does publicly available information say about project W?
It says that prog that that
Do you take this story?
I know smut your I was making a western Final Fantasy game, but it got cancelled and it was very sad
I'm sure there were many other details that I can't remember
Regardless it's very interesting that these French people out in France are
Love Final Fantasy and are also making a turn-based
Western RPG
That was named project W
That's crazy. Fascinating. I wonder if these things have anything to do with each other. That is incredibly fascinating. That
is such a weird coincidence. Now, the thing... And Ben Starr, lead voice actor of the recent Final Fantasy game.
Okay, I don't.
It's gonna be the main character.
This, I have, so I have to go see this game's announcement and look at things.
Yeah, look, I'll just go look at things.
Here's the video.
I'll send it to you now.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But, um.
Wow, that looks really cool
If I if I had to guess I
Would assume that they are really mad that the game that they worked really hard on for a really long
time got cancelled and
wanted to take some of that work and
Blood a nightmare card it back into existence. So I need to see more
about the the potential link between these things. Currently
the link is the name and French people. I haven't done the legwork to find out specific
French people. Okay. But I wouldn't know any of those names. I don't know anyone
who would know any of the names that worked on that first one. Okay. Yeah, all
right. I'm live in front of a microphone and I don't know anything.
You don't know anything. I'm just bringing it up because I think it's cool.
Mmhmm. This could be completely unrelated.
It could be. I don't know. Anyway. Anyway.
It looks cool. That's an interesting premise though.
That is pretty wild.
Yeah, was there an article?
No, you know what? We can't do this live.
I want to say there was an article that
popped up.
It's like something from the rumor mill a million years ago.
A million years ago!
Um... Something from the rumor mill a million years ago a million years ago
That'll have to wait till next week. I guess I guess I guess I guess it all I guess it will
Yeah, all right well anyways hey
Beyond that real quick Perfect dark new, new Perfect Dark game coming.
Looks good, really far away.
I'm surprised that the games continue, that Perfect Dark as a brand continues to exist
given Rare's absolute non-existence.
I don't know if Perfect Dark can be described as a brand considering it has like one game two game two game one good
game
Only got the ones that are good
Yes, I'm just surprised it's more perfect dark at all
There you sure sure that's crystal D
Hey, those are the
Those are the fucking Tomb Raider folks. Yeah, it is. How about that?
It's also the Deus Ex people. No, that's I just want you to know wait what did no no, but it is Montreal though
Square I don't know why I thought that no I just was
Like wait wasn't I dose also Tomb Raider? I don't know who made what anymore. Okay, yes, I know.
Crystal Dynamics made Tomb Raider Remake and Eidos Montreal helped with the multiplayer
and online and other support things.
But yeah, it looks like it's an immersive sim like Deus Ex.
Interesting, interesting.
Okay, yeah. Looks like it's a more of an immersive sim like this X interesting interesting. Okay. Yeah
Yeah, a lot of that stuff like with hitman as well and so on there's like studio assistance from others and so on
and then there was
The new life is strange game
double exposure
Where max caulfield the protagonist of life of strange season one is back and older and has
Way worse power than last time yeah, actually that sucks
You have to split into two universes and jump and figure out stuff as opposed
I'm glad that we can all agree that chrono cross isn't as good as chrono trigger
isn't as good as Chrono Trigger. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Kid is alright. Kid's alright. Kid's alright! Right? I'm not gonna argue with that. Kid's alright.
Come on. That's it. She's alright.
That's it. That's all we need.
I just need you to say kid's alright.
Alright. Let's get out of here. Let's take some letters.
If you want to send in a letter, send it to
castlesuperbeastmail.gmail.com
That's castlesuperbeastmail.gmail.com
It might sound something like this. If you keep it
brief and make it funny and don't hide racial slurs in it
Don't do it
Hey, okay call anybody build build groids in here for the record that entire
Conversation was it was wild because it was like I can't believe they didn't know and then it was like why would they know
They're like from Canada and it was like, you know, I did know
I just haven't heard that in so long that it didn't register as I was reading it
Literally the only time I've ever heard that in my entire life spoken aloud was a Carlos Mencia bit
Okay, of course, I know I super know. I've heard that before, absolutely. But it's such
a weird, like, old poll that I'm like, I did not register until after the fact. So, you
know.
Oh, drop a key.
All right. Here's one, named not given, saying, hey hey guys I've been playing SF6 on and off
for the last year, generally enjoyed the game, never really understood the drive system,
I understand the core gameplay completely, but I feel like when I want to play my brain
breaks whenever my opponent drive rushes or perfect parries me, I know I have to access
the same tools but it never clicked with me mentally.
I had similar issues with mechanics like Roman Cancels in Guilty Gear or Reverse Ledge in
Soul Calibur and I find them less frustrating to fight against.
Yeah, because they're big and they slow things down, of course.
Also, drive rush is really fast.
Yes, exactly.
Has a gimmick ever frustrated you or turned you off from something you otherwise enjoyed?
I support the popular games but sometimes the gimmick just isn't for me.
So yes, the reason why those other mechanics you didn't mind as much is because they happen
very slow.
They force you to...
You cannot miss them, but DriveRush and Roman Cancels are meant to be fast, holy shit, oh,
can you react to this reaction test?
Yeah, I'm really bad at reacting to DriveRush.
Yeah, you have to learn to see green. You have to see the green flash and like instinctively get...
It's kind of like reacting to Drive Impact.
It's the same training, right?
The things...
You see the start of the flash animation and so on, then you press the button.
But like reaction tests are things that people that are newer to fighting games are going
to struggle with.
So that's probably why.
Like I started using like Heavy Punch into drive rush as a confirmed literally this morning.
Yeah, that's not don't rely on that.
No, I don't. But sometimes it's nice.
Yeah. And not to mention you if you look anyway, the Yeah, what are some of the mechanics that
like a fresh frustrated or turned you off? I suck at Roman Cancels, too
I love I love Roman Cancels and I was just saying earlier the playing strive that drift is so sick because
It takes a mechanic like Roman Cancel which was like at the fastest when you do a red Roman Cancel
It's like an instantly cancel do an action thing that still exists in the game and can be used to make really fast, hard to deal with mixups.
So you can use it at a high level play and do advanced things with it anytime you need
to do a quick hard to react to moment.
But if you just use the basic like drift, everything slows down, pop, we're slow, we're
doing a little, you know, a matrix time moment. That's a really kind of hype little thing that is like fun, everyone can use it, makes
it so that everyone can use this cool mechanic.
And it also, in the stopped time, teaches you how to do things like shimmy, you know.
While the game is in Roman cancel drift moment, you can like walk up to somebody and then
walk back and have them whiff a throw and everybody can go like, ah, I get how that
works. So I know it was hated initially, but like everybody can go like, ah, I get how that works.
So I know it was hated initially, but like in retrospect,
I'm like, I love that that exists while allowing you to still cancel it
and do something instantly like Red RC, you know?
You know, I know this is going to sound like me beating a dead horse
with this blood stone or whatever.
I could think of three games in which they were like,
hey, use this mechanic. And I I said I know I don't want to
When it's neo and neo 2 and stranger of paradise
With literally every single thing to do with the gear system. I was gone
Well, then you better throw fucking woe long and yeah well long too
Yeah, and rise of the rodent on that list yeah the entire team ninja catalog hey man you
wanted to know I don't just I don't yeah I really don't I like I said while talking about like you
know Megaton Musashi thankfully this is a game where there's so much happening outside of that, you know? Oh my God!
Somebody in the chat said it and I literally beat Elden Ring last night to get my save
perfect.
I beat the whole game again and I forgot about Rune Arcs.
Just completely forgot about the-
Okay, wait, I don't even know what you're talking about right now!
An Elden Ring? Rune Arcs?
To activate the Great Rune?
On your character?
Oh, the yes-yes picking between the yes-yes-yes-yes, right.
Which buff do you want?
Yeah, I f-
You lose it on death and they're not that good, so fuck it.
Okay, perfumes. Yes, lol.
Oh my god.
Um, um, um, Jesus Christ. Uh, uh, shit. Perfumes yes lol Oh my god
Jesus Christ
Shit Radon's is the best one so if you do want to use it just use Radon's you know at this point
I bet you I could but I think I'm just too stubborn to actually ever learn what junctioning is
Wait what you know I did you play ff8? Yeah, I just I hated the junctioning is. Wait, what? Did you play FF8?
Yeah, I just, I hated the junctioning tutorial so much.
Is that game like, not super hard without junctioning?
It was such, it was just, I just, like that was such an early
like, what the fuck are you trying to say moment for me in it?
I, God, it was bad.
I played it again, I went over it more than once. I went over
it multiple times and I could not understand what the fuck it was asking me to do. So as
that comes up, I'm like, yup, I'm right there with you, bro. I hate junctioning so much.
When it comes to ruining the game entirely, I know this is talking about good games with
a mechanic you don't like, but in this case, ruins the game I'd say. When we first saw the trailer
for King of Fighters 12, it was a holy shit, look how beautiful these sprites are. I can't
believe fighting games are doing this. And KOF XIII is one of the best looking fighting
games ever made, but it's only because 12 came first and made
about half of those characters. 12 was insanely gorgeous and had a lot of just these bright colors,
the effects, the lighting, all the shit that you love in 13. They figured out and like were first
experimenting within 12. But alongside that came a gameplay system that was called critical counter. And what
that was is upon getting your meter filled up, you could, you would flash for a couple seconds.
And if you land a counter hit with heavy punch on anybody, the game just stops and you can just do a
training mode combo on a dummy for a while and your death to death. You get to do a touch of death. And it just slides you into the character for, again, 10 seconds or so.
It was insanity and it was so bad and stupid that it was like,
as soon as that happens in the round, time to stop fighting.
I'm literally gonna not play because what's the point?
If you touch me once, it's over.
Also, it's really easy to get counter hits in KOF XII.
And then we- imagine the Crush Counter Street Fighter 5 problem except way worse and
Everyone constantly would have these flashing moments where it was like no
It's not worth it to play the game right now wait 10 seconds and then resume the fight
Insanity so yeah, that's the worst
Yeah, terrible there you go. All right
That'll do everybody we covered every single game that was announced at all that was never gonna happen
We covered it all complaining about silk song was a much better use of our time Thank you!
