Starting point is 00:00:00 all right we are back the circling back podcast presented by Busy Hard Seltzer, the only hard seltzer with vitamin C from Superfruit, Acerola. My name is David. I'm going to host today. I'm going to host for the rest of the week. How about that? How do you feel about that, Dylan? Dang.
Starting point is 00:00:37 Must mean Will is in Italy. Has he landed in Italy yet? Yeah. That photo he sent us this morning, which was kind of a rude move as we go in for a work week on the heels of one of the worst sports weekends collectively. I don't know if you follow his wife on Instagram, Salgal. She posted a story from Firenze yesterday. Oh, okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:01 Maybe I did see that. Well, good for them. Yeah. It looks phenomenal. I'm a little Joe good for them. Yeah. It looks phenomenal. I'm a little Joe. I'm very Joe. It looks sick. He's going to love it.
Starting point is 00:01:09 He's already thinking about buying property there and wants to move there. He said he's got tum-tum issues, though, which is part of the course. I wasn't going to bring that part up, but yeah. Part of the course for our boy. Potential D or E. We don't know. We don't know. I don't know, Randy.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Don't shoot the messenger dylan is the messenger we've got a special guest in studio retail therapy zone club cool zone oysters clams and cockles own howler brother's own barrett dudley thank you thank you for that uh that nice introduction did i miss anything no you covered it all you covered it all um this dude does everything speaking of house of the dragon a lot of a lot of messengers getting getting got last couple episodes over there you know really really driving it home that that we do in fact like to like to kill the messengers so just be careful david uh and i will say i bared i apologize for doing this on the air i don't mean to reprimand you but dylan
Starting point is 00:02:02 has not watched okay okay so well that was that was that was a spoiler-free reference he he nuked he nuked a potential segment we had by not watching house of dragons after a just deflating the most demoralizing week one game tbh i have a history an episode and a half to watch because i fell asleep last week what is wrong with you i had a big weekend dog my body was player. We're going to shut down for a little bit here. And so I went with it. Are you having tum-tum issues? May was not pleased.
Starting point is 00:02:29 No, I feel great. You know, I have my tum-tum is built diffy. You talked about that many times. Anyway, I know we're here to talk college football, so let's just get right into it. We're just not. That's going to be later on in the day when we do too much dip. That's a different podcast. The only sports podcast that parties and plays sports at the same time.
Starting point is 00:02:47 We don't do that. How did y'all's picks work out on Too Much Dip? Not great? Not good, man. Really bad? I didn't nail my big boy stack, though. I didn't. I went A&M under.
Starting point is 00:02:59 A&M Appalachian State under. Looks like a great pick. I think you also had Texas to cover, I think. I did. So that was i saw david had no faith you know he picked he picked those boys from bama i was very wrong about that as were many many people in the sports media world but yeah yeah well you know my good friend darren revell tweeted out some uh some betting statistics and about 90 of the money was on bama
Starting point is 00:03:21 to cover wow across all platforms that's just you know, they clearly didn't know that we had Hangman himself in the building. Yeah. You know? He was electric, by the way. He looked good. He's a hot dude. Bae perked up when he was on screen. She was popping perks?
Starting point is 00:03:38 Yeah. Like Drew Brees? She was excited. Why didn't Quinn just go pop a few perks? Yeah, like Drew Brees said on Instagram. That was absolutely wild. What? Like, just go rub some dirt on it.
Starting point is 00:03:51 Like, all right, dude, I understand what you're saying, but... I'll let y'all save the rest of it for too much dip, though. You know? Well, I will bring this up since you're the noted fashion icon of washed media. Yeah. Glenn Powell, slim fit, Texas jersey. What was going on there did you see his his appearance i did i did okay did you thought his jersey was like a little too slim it looked a little tailored okay almost maybe it was custom and i guess when you're glenn powell yeah fresh off you know you're off the heels of around the
Starting point is 00:04:20 heels of the biggest movie of 2022 you can do that it was a number one jersey right so no no name on the back i don't think right or did it did it did it have a player's name on the back i didn't see is that even available yet player's name yeah yeah yeah i was in the co-op just earlier this week oh really xavier worthy jerseys i've been waiting for that to happen i haven't i just haven't seen any out in the wild yet yeah um you're gonna get maybe actually what i saw was a shirzy just to be completely clear but i just haven't seen any out in the wild yet yeah um maybe actually what i saw was a shirzy just to be completely clear but i i do think that you can you can jersey or shirzy up with players names i might have to get me a quinn man you know i would be doing everyone a real
Starting point is 00:04:57 disservice if at five minutes into this podcast i didn't actually introduce Dylan Chivary. Thank you, Dave. It's very nice to be here and to be acknowledged by my co-host of six years now. Has it been six? Yeah, we started 2016, man. March. God, time flies on your podcast week. Yeah. You feel like it's been six years?
Starting point is 00:05:24 I actually feel like I've been podcasting for more than six years. That's because you're really good at it. We do lots of episodes. We're not. You are good at it, man. No, but you guys do. I mean, yeah, you do way more episodes than I do. We get more reps, but you've got the quality of reps.
Starting point is 00:05:36 I feel like that would make it. You don't feel like you've been doing this for like a decade? It feels about six years, I guess. Maybe a little bit longer. The years of the previous employer were kind of a blur. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I guess it wasn't actually as long.
Starting point is 00:05:50 The podcasting portion of that experience was actually a very small percentage of the run there. It was. Yeah. Actually, so much so that our former CEO, Madison, when we started doing Touching Base, we did it during regular working hours of the day. Yeah. He came to us and he's like, would you guys mind recording before work? We would have been so – we would have never made it. In other words –
Starting point is 00:06:20 Because we hated each other already. In other words, this seems like a hobby for you guys and not an actual worthwhile work know worthwhile work endeavor i don't think any of us so please don't do it during regular we didn't really know what we didn't know what we had to be fair to be fair i understand other other parts of the business was like yeah i guess man so we're vital at that point but we recorded at 8 a.m for a long time that sucked That sucked, dude. Yeah. That explains all the tension with producer Micah. Yeah. He's just in there, and Micah's up there making tacos at 8 a.m. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:50 At his taco bar. We're just like, dude, we're trying to pod here, guy. He's peeling his seventh banana of the day. Yeah. Bushel of bananas. I got this Glenn Powell photo up here from game day, and yeah, I got no problems with the cut of this jersey. He can do what he wants.
Starting point is 00:07:03 He's Glenn Powell. I'm just some douche who has a pod. He's a pretty shredded up guy, you know? Yeah. Let those puppies sing. Let the puppies sing, he says. Speaking of singing, we talk about this weekend and fun presented by our good friends at Shopify. Shopify gives entrepreneurs the resources once reserved for big business.
Starting point is 00:07:22 So upstarts, startups, and established businesses alike can sell everywhere, synchronize online and in-person sales and effortless, effortlessly, effortlessly. It's a tough one. That was really bad. Stay informed. Barrett's better at this than me.
Starting point is 00:07:37 I've said that before. Scaling your business is a journey of endless possibility. Dylan. I'll speak to Shopify. Please do. As you know, our merch store is back online. Go check it out. Washmedia.shop?
Starting point is 00:07:50 Yes, washmedia.shop. Randy's getting Instagram off over there, I can tell. People like to give me some crap because I'm not super tech savvy. I hunt and pack. I'm a bit older than some of these fellows around here. And guess what? I figured out Shopify. I'm a bit older than some of these fellows around here. Right. And guess what? I figured out Shopify. I got the store going.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Maybe had like a little bit of help from Will. Not a big deal. I got it going. It's working. If I can do it, so can you. Our entire merch drop that you may have seen last two weeks. I mean, does that even exist without Shopify? I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:08:22 I love how Shopify has the tools and resources that make it easy for any business to succeed from down the street to around the globe. We're probably on the down the street end right now, but we'll get there. Like ours, Shopify powers millions of businesses from first sale to full scale, reach customers online and across social networks with an ever-growing suite of channel integrations and apps, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and more. Synchronize your online and in-person sales gain insights as you grow with detailed reporting of conversion rates, profit margins, and beyond.
Starting point is 00:08:56 More than a store, Shopify grows with you. This is possibility. Powered by Shopify. Go to shopify.com slash circling, all lowercase, for a free 14-day trial and get full access to Shopify's entire suite of features. Grow your business with Shopify today. Go to shopify.com slash circling right now. That's shopify.com slash circling. I'm in the shop right now.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Probably, yeah. Just good-looking stuff, good-looking store. You need shop right now. Probably, yeah. Just good looking stuff, good looking store. You guys got to, you need to restock these stickers, man. The stickers are hot. A lot of people like the stickers. They're moving. Yeah. They're moving big time. So now that there's been enough time between the ad read and what we're doing right now,
Starting point is 00:09:36 I just want to go back and say that I did Ron Burgundy that. And it does say this is possibility powered by Shopify. And I didn't know if that was like an epic slogan type deal. say this is possibility powered by shopify and i didn't know if that was like a like an epic slogan type deal like this is possibility and maybe if it is i need to to put more emphasis on this part but that's how it looks in the copy so i read it this is time to talk about our weekends you want to start yeah sure i had a fantastic Fantastic weekend given all the, you know, crap that went down sports-wise. Okay. Saturday, I mean, sorry, Friday, Bay and I stepped out, went and met some friends for drinks and had dinner at La Pesina. The pool.
Starting point is 00:10:17 The swimming pool. Not their best effort on the fajita front. Really? You had an issue with the taws? Very disappointing. Not their best effort on the fajita front. Really? You had an issue with the Taz? Very disappointing. We got the steak Taz, and they were a little tough, a little chewy for my taste.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Would it serve sizzling? Usually they're fantastic. They were off their game. Still had a great time. Margaritas were good. Saturday, wouldn't cut the game everyone was talking about. Parks had a soccer game at 10 a.m. Did they win they rolled
Starting point is 00:10:46 parks he's so close to scoring the goal and he's much better than he was last year the dude's hustling he's in the action he's disrupting the other team he's he's everywhere man really proud watch a little football watch a little football dead air man i i've never been so excited and so let down at the same i'm so deflated i guess i should say so you were in public for that no i i i had the opportunity to go watch it at a bar with some friends and i declined because i wanted to be alone i wanted to be alone. I wanted to watch a game alone. That's a real fan. I'm kind of glad that I did it that way.
Starting point is 00:11:33 Quinn Ewers is so good. He was dicing. More on this later on too much, Jeff. He was dicing. Guy just loves sports. The Alabama defense. 130 yards in the first quarter. Not going to get any pullback from me get any more had some catches been made anyway a lot to be excited about but he's gonna miss significant time which is
Starting point is 00:11:53 really crushing what does the late afternoon look like for Dylan coming off of a fairly gut-wrenching loss I got my shit together and I met Bay and some friends downtown i stepped out for a bit one got some drinks we went to parlor and yard and the key bar oh and then we uh then we went to home slice pizza and just went off you're fantastic of course your college apartment famously called a key bar right yeah you dude you are a hell of a pianist we got some za saturday how was parlor there were a million people in there there was shattered broken glass all over the floor it was a mess in that place what's the what's the age demo at parlor on your we're too old it was a little as a bit older than i was expecting it's it's 24 to 30 yeah i was one of the older folks
Starting point is 00:12:44 in there of course but i wasn't the oldest so it didn't look like parents weekend in there no it wasn't like why is this guy and you're creeping on the young girls it was like i very much fit in with the crowd it was nice people were happy that you were creeping on the young girls ran into a couple backers it was great really yeah did they uh did they buy you some shots of uh fireball no one of them was i met on the street uh we i was on the way to key bar you're heavy in the streets yeah well that's where i'm from man ear to it all the time sunday got the homie back we chilled man we went to a birthday party you got a trampoline off trampoline one of these trampoline parks you got a trampoline off meaning you he jumped on trampolines yeah did you jump on a
Starting point is 00:13:29 trampoline no no i didn't it was did you think about it i let the kids did yeah well they had they have those above what's it called the basketball rim oh yeah yeah yeah um there's a name for the sport anyway it doesn't matter they had the slam ball slam ball sure yeah i was like man i want to get down there and just throw some some mammo just tomahawks down why didn't you that's an injury waiting to happen man it is i worry about the ankles among other things and then i watched um maybe the worst performance of the weekend that was our dallas cowboys yeah i was hoping that one wouldn't come up but but thank you. And that's it. Dude, the thought of you or anyone really getting injured, throwing down a, at a kid's party, going down a slam ball dunk. And like, so you're up there, let's say just blow your knee and you're on the trampoline. First of all, people have to like
Starting point is 00:14:19 bounce their way over to you to get you. And like, what demoralizing is that there's places hopping over to get you snapped like femurs waiting to happen and and the more they the the quicker they move to get to you the more it's going to move you and hurt you so they have to like yeah they have to like teeter around the edge crawled out on a trampoline we're one top five worst place to get injured oh trampoline park you sign your life away when you walk into that place waivers and things of that nature it's extensive why didn't you should have taken a photo and sent it to me i would have reviewed it for you i feel like it was pretty standard anyway well sunday doc review just wet the whistle a little bit david me and dylan did that more on that later hey barrett what did you do this weekend oh man well uh i had my parents in
Starting point is 00:15:08 town they were here also uh we we all went to said uh texas versus alabama game on saturday whole squad had tickets whole squad had tickets um absolutely electric atmosphere disappointing outcome obviously uh friday night I got to take them to a little Halle Brothers shindig. We've been known to put down a good party, and they've been wanting to see one. And it was a banger. The DJ was mixing up all sorts of genres, very, very good tunes, free booze, free food, as usual. Any tropical house? There was some tropical house mixed in i mean this guy was going from he knew how to he knew how to set the you know the crest of the wave for a party so like
Starting point is 00:15:50 first 45 minutes there was some pops and 80s went a little country you know a lot of people wearing their boots it's good time and then as as as the as the evening continued he he moved into like little hip-hop little wa, a little tropical house. He just, he had it down. We had Fort Lonesome out there doing some, doing embroidery on shirts and jackets. So that was a good time. Where was the venue for this? The Howler Brothers store in Clarksville.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Oh, nice. The Howler Hacienda. Got it. So I took my parents over to Taco Flats after that. Good spot. Good spot. I want to throw something at y'all we all frequent the uh the la pacinas and the peacocks and clarks and junes and the assorted the mml lineup mml lineup yes they are what's mml for the folks at home that's that's uh it what used to be mcguire mormon hospitality it's now mcguire mormon lambert hospitality known as uh mml and just a juggernaut food cartel is a juggernaut of a restaurant group group yeah basically they dominate the austin scene and it basically anytime
Starting point is 00:16:58 like some old institution is like going out of business or the space is up for grabs there's like a 70% chance that Maguire Mormon has, has already procured it and we'll put another new, like trendy restaurant in it. So, uh, eater Austin, uh, maybe a couple of weeks ago. Yeah. Two weeks ago here, they lean into the, the kind of the biting nature. Like they're, they, I feel like they kind of have a love hate relationship with the, this, you know, the direction that Austin has has been headed in the last several years. And so they kind of were throwing shade at this $80 chicken dish at Pecan Square Cafe and one of the newer McGuire Mormon spots. $80 for a chicken dish for a chicken dish.
Starting point is 00:17:39 I've never heard of such a thing. I'm a chicken guy. It's like a full chicken. And there's like lots of people in the comments. It's like you picture you. You posted the picture of the half chicken. So it's actually double that if you get the $80 one, there was, you know, this whole debate, but I just want to read you to the first sentence and, uh, and see what you think. Upscale Austin hospitality group, McGuire, Mormon Lambert hospitality seems to have a formula for their restaurants, heavy ambiance, good,
Starting point is 00:18:03 but not stellar food, and outlandish pricing. Yeah. Do you think they nailed that? That's perfect. That is perfect. That describes Sammy's to a T. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:15 The ambiance is fantastic. The food is like, it's not bad by any means, but like for what you're paying, it should be better. They have just like the way that places feel and look down to a T. They crush it. Like they absolutely crush it. Like they just, they don't miss. So much so that when I go to other cities, like a lot of times the restaurant scene is actually lacking regardless of what the food is like because it's almost impossible to like meet the vibe of a McGuire andire mormon restaurant they do a great job at that and that's why they they crush it yeah the restaurants
Starting point is 00:18:49 why they can't all the time charge 80 for the the chicken i need to know more about this chicken so it's a full chicken chicken it's a full chicken yep it's a full um yeah let's see it's a yeah a whole chicken yeah i'm not doing 80 for chicken for a whole chicken though it's not even fried right you can get a you can get a nine ounce filet for 60 bucks yeah why would you want chicken no is this because of bidenflation uh i would say it's it's um it's yeah yeah skimflation maybe okay yeah you heard of that one no that's where you that's where they skimflation is where it's the same price but you get less oh okay yeah yeah kind of like quiet quitting sure yeah sounds very similar yeah uh sorry i just wanted i wanted to throw y'all throw
Starting point is 00:19:39 that at y'all let's see if you like beautiful i love i love a good negative review. I really do. There was one out of Dallas that we read a couple months ago that was just scathing for some brand new place. And the funny thing was it just torched it. My sister went two weeks later, and she was like, actually really good. I was like, oh, wow. Not the first time they've been wrong. Yeah. Anything else?
Starting point is 00:20:00 What did your Sunday look like? I did a Bama game, did a little Pine House pizza on Saturday night. else would your sunday look like i am a game did a little pint house pizza on saturday night uh and then sunday i was um you know i was flipping flapjacks whipping up a little breakfast for the whole squad and uh and then um just enjoying the football enjoying enjoying the nfl back in my life i'm an nfl guy over college football guy. Like I love Texas more than, more than all of it. But like when it comes to paying attention to NFL or college football, I'm all NFL. Interesting. What's your go-to if you're having to cook breakfast for four or five people? Yeah. Flapjacks? Uh, no. So I, it, no flipping flapjacks just sounded better.
Starting point is 00:20:39 I was actually making French toast. Okay. Very different, but it's easier. It's, it's a little easier from scratch though correct yeah i mean i didn't make the bread oh you didn't you didn't have yeast no yeast did you hit him with glaring lack of yeast on this guy you hit him with some scrambies yeah yeah okay scrambled eggs bacon french toast that's a good lineup that's a good lineup i would enjoy that yeah so that was it man it was good it was a solid weekend it's a good good weekend my weekend kind of kicked off friday afternoon played golf with our buddy ryan his buddy josh you know i bucked the trend of me playing like blowing the round through the first five holes i was like four over through five or something,
Starting point is 00:21:25 which is not great, but I'm still in it. Back nine, made the mistake. I've got a little pro tip for the folks at home. This is free game, as the kids say. Ready? If you ever have the opportunity at the turn to enjoy a grilled cheese sandwich, but not your grandma's grilled cheese,
Starting point is 00:21:41 it's a new twist on an old fave, pimento cheese and beef rib. On the sandwich. On the sandwich. Turns out you probably shouldn't eat that as you're making the turn. It sounds a bit heavy. And about to go play nine more holes in 95-degree heat. Sounds heavy.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Sounds delicious, but heavy. It was phenomenal. I'm blaming that on the north of 50 on the back wasn't good it's a tough course dave it is but i i know i normally play that back pretty well it was still really fun so shout out to ryan for having me out um friday out. Friday night, didn't do much. I got a wild hair and went onto Amazon and ordered, rented, did not buy the Al Pacino, Robert De Niro movie, Heat, which I haven't seen in over a decade. And I forgot how over the top Al Pacino is in that movie. I mean, it is the most Al Pacino movie of all time. Did your wife watch this movie?
Starting point is 00:22:46 No, absolutely not. You think she did not watch a three-hour Michael Mann thriller? It just had nothing to do with it. I don't think I've ever seen that one. She walked out, Val Kilmer. She's like, what is this? What are you doing? I'm just there.
Starting point is 00:23:04 I'm like, I took an early bird and I'm watching Heat. What's it look like? What does it look like, what is this? What are you doing? I'm just there. I'm like, I took an early bird and I'm watching heat. What's it look like? What does it look like, babe? Then Saturday, yeah, got up, had some FOMO. I kind of, the entire end of last week and through the weekend, there was a buzz in Austin. And it's obviously because there's a ton of people from Bama in town and there's just intrigue over the game. Very, very fun weekend, I'm sure.
Starting point is 00:23:28 The bars were probably hopping. Y'all can speak better to that. Yeah. I was kind of like, man, I kind of want to get out there and just mix it up a little bit. And then, eh. At the same time, I knew West 6 was going to be a nightmare. Like, lines everywhere.
Starting point is 00:23:43 You know, I waited maybe two minutes total. Actually, not even. six was going to be a nightmare like lines everywhere you know i have the good kind i waited maybe a two minutes total actually not even i think it was very it wasn't bad at all um it was very crowded but it wasn't like so overwhelming i got uber just fine but there were a lot of people out and about it was pretty wild yeah i gotta say it's it's um one of the things that that the weekend really had me kind of keyed up for is texas joining the sec like yeah we may never win a a uh you know a conference championship or play for a national championship again once we're in the sec but uh but the fact that like it's kind of a bummer that now that bam, like bam is over and like all the rest of the home games are kind of
Starting point is 00:24:28 shitty. Yeah. And there won't be, there won't be that buzz going into a weekend again. Yeah. But fast forward two years and it's just going to be like nonstop action every single weekend. Does the traditional Bama dude.
Starting point is 00:24:41 And I guess that goes for all S a sec dudes. Does, do they come into town with their, umthe-top come-over swoops? I saw. So there was a young Bama male contingency at the aforementioned Howler party, and it was just swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop. Still alive. Still alive.
Starting point is 00:25:00 I feel like the caliber of fan who travels to away games is a little different than what you would see walking around campus in Tuscaloosa. You know what I mean? Fair. Austin's a destination city for some. If you're in Tuscaloosa or a Bama fan, you got a chance. Of course you're going. They're still doing the swoop?
Starting point is 00:25:18 Oh, yeah. So they have not transitioned to the e-boy TikTok haircut? No, not aok haircut in sight that's interesting because like at the the schools you would think that you know would send kids to bama the west lakes the all i see is the tiktok and of course i don't even know how to describe it they brushed it forward curly and brushed forward and short on the sides with a dangly earring couldn't be me mainly for male pattern baldness reasons but yeah, yeah, could not be me. It's a terrible haircut. Not a good haircut.
Starting point is 00:25:46 It's pretty bad. Yeah. That's good that they showed up at the Howler thing. Although, I mean, you know, I'm not sure if I had to choose that or the swoop, which I'd lean towards. Right. Sure. Right.
Starting point is 00:25:59 Yeah, watched the game at home. Had a lot of fun. Stayed up watching 9-15 Baylor-BYU kick. Sorry. Up until 1-15 to watch a terrible two overtime game just just mistake after mistake missed kicks penalties just a terrible game shout out to byu though that looked like a fun atmosphere in provo um sunday did something a little different did a dim sum brunch you guys ever done we did one in vegas actually was that technically a dim sum brunch. You guys ever done? We did one in Vegas, actually. Was that technically a dim sum
Starting point is 00:26:28 that we did on your bachelor party? Yeah. That was phenomenal. Didn't know what, full disclosure, I didn't know what a dim sum brunch was until your bachelor party. I'd never taken part in such an event, but.
Starting point is 00:26:38 Remember those little biscuits we had with the duck in them? They were bomb. Was that a bao, B-A-O? Sure. A bun? I think it was just a bun. Oh, it was just a bun. They call those like a pork bun, were bomb. Was that a bao? B-A-O? Sure. A bun? I think it was just a bun. Oh, it was just a bun.
Starting point is 00:26:47 They called those like a pork bun, right? Maybe it's a bao. Maybe the bao might be the actual... Don't know. Well, we did wu chao. The actual word for it. Wu chao. Very...
Starting point is 00:26:57 That should be... If people DM me asking for cool restaurants while they're in Austin, I always say wu chao because it is a fun atmosphere. They've got a great playlist and I think the food's really, really good.
Starting point is 00:27:07 The Dim Sum brunch was next level. We don't do brunch very often. We brought Rhodes, we brought Baby Boy and he was, to his credit, really good.
Starting point is 00:27:16 I always, when I go to a place like Wu Chow that's like, you know, fun, boozy brunch where there's going to be people like looking to party,
Starting point is 00:27:23 I'm always like, oh, I don't want to be the guy whose kid's ruining their time. Yeah. But he was great. And there were other kids there too. Dan Dan noodles, soup dumplings, all that. Phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:27:35 Even had a beer. Exactly one. Pretty good day. Went home, watched. Jeez, I watched Texans Colts. Barrett Davis Mills. Not bad. He pretty good.
Starting point is 00:27:46 I was in group chats all this week saying the Texans, I think they're going to be frisky. I think they're a little sneaky. The defense looks very good. They've got a former Baylor great general Petrie back there. They were being tossed around as like potential worst record in a week. I don't think so. No, I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:28:04 That's probably north on 45. If you go about three and a half hours north. Yeah, we'll see. Last night, of course, watched the Cowboy game. Then I watched House of Dragons. Interesting episode, to say the least. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:22 I look forward to talking about it off mic with you. But, you know, all in all, good weekend. Low look forward to talking about it off mic with you. But you know, all in all, good weekend. Low key. Didn't get out much outside of brunch. Was a little sad that I didn't hit the bars, but I'm also 38, so it's probably for the best. I can't really handle it. Just doesn't hit like it used to, huh? It doesn't. Unless we're mobbing. Unless we got a crew. You know what I mean? I'm down for a mob. Yeah. We're due.
Starting point is 00:28:49 I think we're very due. I'm also due for super speciosa. Wow, me too. How about that wildefrees transition? That was a fantastic day. Speciosa. Personal. I mean, how do I even start?
Starting point is 00:29:02 Kratom. What is kratom? Kratom is an all-natural herb related to the coffee plant that has been used in Thailand for centuries. I've been hearing about it for a long time, didn't know what it was until they hit us up to do some reads for them. And here's what it does. It helps energize your mind and relax your body.
Starting point is 00:29:18 It helps you feel good. Super Speciosa only has one ingredient, pure kratom leaf. It's phenomenal. It's, you know, gives you, let's say you're looking to see that chick on the other side of the room or that feller, you can go over there and ask them out on a date. Helps you give you that courage. Wow. Ask your boss for a raise, run the extra mile. Kratom, people forget this, is often used as a pre-workout. For beginners, we recommend the capsules because they're easy to use. We recommend
Starting point is 00:29:43 the green strains because they're the most popular, 100% satisfaction or your money back guaranteed. Oh, we got a little update on the code here. Try Kratom now and get 20% off. Go to getsuperleaf.com slash steam. That's getsuperleaf.com slash steam and get 20 off with promo code steam that's get super leaf dot com slash steam and use promo code steam for 20 off the code can be used again and again for people in the audience that have used the code before so it's not a one-time thing check it out now what would everybody tuned in for we got the retail therapy guy got the club cool guy he's got a lot of buzz around him going into the fall hold Hold on. Are we going to skip the part about Barrett hating kids? Oh, fuck. You want to do that? Pull it up. This segment is called Barrett hates kids. What's your problem?
Starting point is 00:30:34 Why do you hate kids so much, Barrett? Straight to people's face. I don't like having to go to your young child's birthday party. This is an obligation and a chore and nothing about it leads to any type of like real fun. They always say like, so these are really just parties for the parents, but they're not parties for the parents because they happen at like awkward times, like two 30. And then they're always on a Saturday. And so what ends up happening is like, I'm blowing my entire day, my entire afternoon on these things so that I can go sit around and have one drink or no drinks because I'm trying to do errands
Starting point is 00:31:07 after that. Parents, they don't do a good job of actually socially engaging at these because they're still very focused on the kids. If it's for the parents to socialize, well, then there's not really a lot of that because there are kids running around and so the people with kids, including the hosts of the party,
Starting point is 00:31:24 are generally pretty occupied and pretty levels are high it's too many kids around the whole thing is just kind of a mess i'll tell this straight to people's face i don't like having to go to your young child's birthday party all right i'm gonna cross you off all future invite i deserve this i deserve getting put on blast for this um again this segment is called why does barrett hate kids damn okay first of all i just want to say i i would like to say not an excuse but that was on a ross bolin podcast patreon episode paywall that i thought was supposed to remain behind a paywall i felt a little bit more free to like get off. What is arguably the hottest take I have in my quiver?
Starting point is 00:32:08 You know, people say that the truth comes out behind a paywall. That's right, man. Check us out every Tuesday. Huh. So people pay for that, huh? They pay for that kind of. They pay for that kind of, those kind of disparaging remarks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:23 That's pretty interesting. So, all right. That would be awkward if if you had attended anyone. Two of, yeah, circling back hosts, one-year-old birthday parties within the last six months. Sure. Yeah. I can see that. That would be awkward, but that is not the case, correct?
Starting point is 00:32:39 That is the case. Yeah. Yeah. Did you? Okay. Okay. And let me ask you, let me expand on that a little bit. Did you attend anyone else's?
Starting point is 00:32:50 Or were those the only two that you had attended in the year 2020? No, so I actually, I attended another one just a couple of weeks ago. Have you been to a Parks John before? I've not. You haven't? Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:02 You should go, dude. Next level joint. Next level shit. We had this bounce bounce house and the streets going crazy dinosaur bounce house it was like taller than our house it was lit all right i recently said that trampoline park is the worst place to get injured if you were at the top of that bounce house and you got injured that would be probably worse because then someone would have to scale the little dinosaur ladder the inflame that shit was tight though it was tight and too bad you couldn't make it bear the the the answer to your question is um because because i don't have kids i'm sure that this weighs heavily here and you
Starting point is 00:33:35 know if i was bringing my own little tot to these shindigs and had the same level of uh of of stress and also the same uh agenda for the party, then, then, then I'm sure I'd be right there with you as, as a, as a non-child haver. It's, it's like, uh, it's, it's essentially a feeling the, the, the take comes from like a feeling of, of, of unfulfillment basically, because it's kind of like pitched as an opportunity to to see your friends and it doesn't really feel like that because they're chasing around kids the whole time yeah and and because i mean because of the timing because of like the you know it's just a weird it's a weird setup for those that are not partaking with their own there's usually
Starting point is 00:34:20 family members that you've never met so you kind of have to be on your best behavior. When you decide to become a parent, when you become a parent, you sign up for a life of that kind of crap. You do. Your kids' birthday parties, their friends' birthday parties that you go to, talking soccer games and gymnastics, all that stuff.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Being childless, that's not part of your life. And I do get it. So I guess I'm coming to your defense a little bit because we expect all that shit. We know that it's gonna be part of our life for the next however many years. Yeah, and I mean, know it's uh i'll i'll stand behind the take i'll also just like add that like i'll still take the awkward weird saturday hang with one beer to get to see people then not take it it's just like it's you know
Starting point is 00:35:17 i feel like the last five times i've hung out with you have all been in that, uh, scenario where it's just us, couple, you know, two, a couple, two couples, and we bring the kid and I hate, I, that's okay. I'm totally fine. But it's like, for me, I'm so worried about roads, like breaking plates and stuff that I feel like I don't socialize enough with the other couple or anybody really so that can be tough i completely understand where you're coming from here um i don't know if my wife will forgive you for this as she and my sister put a lot of time into uh yes his apres ski party but um you know i mean i'm extending the olive branch by having you on maybe. Maybe the key here is that I just show up to these things and I just absolutely let it all hang loose.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Like no decorum, no moderation on how many punches I'm having or whatever. No one says you can only have one beer. You can have as many as you want. Yeah, Randy. Randy went so hard on the toddies. On the toddies? We had a toddy bar. How many toddies did you have?
Starting point is 00:36:27 It was the signature drink at the party. He had three. He had four. Don't lie. No, you should just show up as a clown, like in a clown suit. You should just completely cut the party. Just show up. We got all this stuff planned out.
Starting point is 00:36:40 It's like a cowboy theme or something. And Barrett shows up. He's juggling bowling pins and shit. Swallowing swords. Doing magic tricks. Balloon animals. Balloon something. And Barrett shows up. He's juggling bowling pins and shit. Swallowing swords. Doing magic tricks. Balloon animals. Balloon animals. Obviously.
Starting point is 00:36:49 Dylan, dude. The Parks John, like you said. Oh, Mrs. Sparkles? Mrs. Sparkles went so on. She went dummy hard on that magic. Dude, I don't know. She was a balloon animal person. What do you call that?
Starting point is 00:37:05 Balloon animal artist. A balloon artist. Sure. Slash magician. And she had the kids just mesmerized for a solid 20 minutes. And they loved it. Ms. Sparkles. Look her up.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Look her up. They are available for your next party. At Ms. Sparkles on Instagram. Probably so. Check her out. Don't look that up on your company computer. next party at miss sparkles on instagram probably so yeah check her out don't don't look that up on your company computer i bet that brings up something i mean look give me your best case and worst case scenario for a kid's party because i we we originally had some stuff in mind for like getting barbecue catered and it turns out that you can't get good barbecue for under oh i, I don't know, $1,500 for a group of 20 people in this town. So we just went with Zaha. We went with
Starting point is 00:37:49 some Zaha. What's, what's, what's the go-to for you? Uh, so I, I mean, I, I made reference to the, to the, to the timing of these things. And I actually, so I have previously made similar statements to Will and Sally, um, who who who also went all out for for a one-year-old birthday party just earlier this year both of you guys put on great parties kids had great had a lot of fun um thank you for saying that yeah and uh and and i i certainly don't mean to disparage the the effort and the love that that went into those things so um but uh but yeah i know you guys got to deal with the the bedtimes and everything but i'd love to see a child's birthday party that starts at um 9 p.m 4 30 or 5 slightly closer to like the the
Starting point is 00:38:40 the hour of happy i like when i'm more when I'm a little bit, when I can, when I can, if I could, and I mean, I'm look, I'd still like to have kids. I'm not, I'm not totally precluding myself from like eventually having to, to deal with all of the, you know, jump through all these same hoops and, and get over these hurdles. But, um, but yeah, it's, but um but yeah it's but but if it was like a more typical hour for uh for imbibing you know and i think that obviously happens as the kids get older barrett you do a little laser tag that probably starts maybe at three or four oh that sounds tight there's that blazer tag over there off 290 still there kicking never been in there looks kind of, but I heard it's fun.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Oh, I think it's pretty lit. Is it lit? I think so. Let's go. Is there a Dave & Buster's in this town? Oh, yeah. I'll see what I can do to get us at DMV
Starting point is 00:39:33 next year or two. Make it a little bit more fun. Randy would love Dave & Buster's. We can't go there without bringing Parks. That's his joint. Is it? Yeah, he's a regular there.
Starting point is 00:39:42 Well, he's going to be invited to these things going forward. What's top game for Parks at Dave & Buster's? Anything with dinosaurs. Is that one where you're driving through the jungle and dinosaurs are attacking you and he just blasts them all? Yeah. He loves that one. He getting that Jurassic Park Jeep?
Starting point is 00:39:55 Yep, that's the one. Yeah. That's weird because when I saw him at Dave & Buster's a couple of weeks ago, I saw him on the billiards table. He was also Dan Stantz Revolutions. Not really, but that was it. Oh, DDR? Yeah, DDR. Didn't Will have a sneaky DDR past? table he's also dan stance revolutions i'm not really but that oh ddr yeah ddr didn't will like have like a sneaky ddr past didn't like his crew like get really into ddr maybe not really into
Starting point is 00:40:13 it i don't know if they bought jinkos and shit but there was something there to find out barrett i secretly agree with you i completely understand completely get it it's it's you know the timing does suck but there's another way you could do you gotta you're doing it around nap times like you said yeah bedtimes and everybody's kid you never know it's unpredictable you got randy running around the dog and you got randy the producer running around doing god knows what parents you have the yeah you've like i mean did you even talk to my parents or Alyssa's parents? No, I talked to your sister though. Okay.
Starting point is 00:40:51 Yeah. Good. Yeah, she said good things. Yeah. Anything else on this? Can we close the book on it? Yeah, I think so. Sorry, it's all the parents out there.
Starting point is 00:41:03 Did Ross get a lot of blowback, a lot of unsback a lot of unsubscribes from no no i don't think he did oh fuck ross yeah he he um the the blowback mostly came from from this room right here yeah i saw when i saw it i immediately was like oh i gotta make this a thing yeah i mean it's one of those things you know you get on a podcast you let loose and then like it gets played back and you're like oh that sounded pretty harsh so like everything we do every day yeah come in here dylan's got queen jokes that here is he was riffing on the queen no he wasn't just kidding we weren't even we didn't even know she'd pass go check out the
Starting point is 00:41:41 crown great show you watch the crown no uh but you're saying crayon or crown the crown the crown yeah the crayon i'm i'm intrigued i might i might give it a spin yeah kids say it's good oh oh very cool catch up on house of dragons for us one time i need to i'm sorry yeah last night is a a must talk about around the office show. I legit forgot it was on last night because I was just so dialed into the football. Yeah. You know, I was so disgusted I tuned out with three minutes left. I normally am a sicko and I'll watch the entire thing and I'll even listen to some postgame. I went right into House of Dragons. That's how down bad I was. That's unlike me.
Starting point is 00:42:22 I think this is the first Game of Thrones season. And I, you know, just the, I think this is the first Westeros season Game of Thrones show that has been smack dab in the middle of football season. So it's kind of an interesting, the summer has usually been there like playing ground where they usually put this show either kind of like in that April, May, April, it usually starts like April, May, June typically. either kind of like in that April main April, it usually starts like April, May, June typically.
Starting point is 00:42:49 And so, you know, it's kind of interesting to, to, to have the, you got that decision to make. Cause it's, it's, it's, uh, it's running up against Sunday night football, which I got to think hurts the overnight ratings for game of Thrones. Cause like, you know, you know how I'm sure bucks Cowboys, like the biggest TV show of the year. I was like, so far remember it was on. Yeah. So, So, you know, hopefully when it's back for season two and 24, they throw it down in the summer again because I do prefer that. If not for the tweets, I would have forgot about it.
Starting point is 00:43:14 Last night's episode, good? I thought it was a good one. Dave said he was maybe not in the right headspace. It got better as it went on. It was just – I saw some booty chatter about an incestual incestuous what's that word incestuous yeah yeah orgy i don't know is that facts i you know i don't want to spoil it for you or the folks at home but maybe if people are tweeting about it it's got to be true i will
Starting point is 00:43:37 say that i was not in the right headspace to to enjoy a show like that so the fact that it did anything for me toward the end should bode well for it because I was, I was an early bird deep. I was, I had a cool, I had like a, I had a light beer.
Starting point is 00:43:54 It was just, I was bad. I was sad. Yeah. I was just looking at Twitter the whole time. Anyway, more on that on too much dip, which we will be recording this afternoon.
Starting point is 00:44:04 Folks, can we talk about the people at Policy Genius, our good friends at Policy Genius? I was hoping we were going to talk about the good people at Policy Genius. Dylan, why get life insurance? Well, life insurance is very important, especially for us fathers, Dave. That's right. We pay hundreds of dollars per year to protect our homes, our cars, and even our phones. But too many of us aren't taking the steps to protect our family's finances, something that we normally don't discuss publicly.
Starting point is 00:44:30 But we're going to pull back that curtain here. Mortgage payments, private student loans, and other types of debt don't disappear if something happens to you. A life insurance policy can provide your loved ones with financial cushion that they can use to cover those costs. And it can provide you peace of mind that even in worst case scenarios, they will be protected. Having life insurance through your job may not be enough. Most people need up to 10 times more coverage to properly provide for their families and coverage through work isn't portable. If you leave your job, the policy doesn't go with
Starting point is 00:45:02 you, meaning a gap in coverage when you need it most. That is such a sad story when that happens. Why get covered now? Inflation, Barrett. It's driving up prices for just about everything lately, including whole chickens. Yeah, that's what they're saying. It's a callback. But life insurance rates are actually down from this time last year. And since life insurance typically gets more expensive as you age, that means that now is a great time to buy. Worried about price? By making it easy to compare your options

I know all the dudes out there have been wondering, ladies too, fall fits with the retail therapy guy, one half of the show. That's right. Barrett Dudley here. Yeah. Barrett, I got a lot of questions as we transition into fall. Uh-huh. Where do you want to start? Can we start with outerwear?
Starting point is 00:46:49 I think outerwear is important, and it's an area of my game that's traditionally been lacking. Yeah. Everyone says that. You say that often. You text me sometimes after the show. Like, what are you thinking with that? What the fuck's up with your outerwear?
Starting point is 00:47:00 Yeah, so I'm actually going to give a little HT to Randy. Randy was watching a movie on Netflix called Gray Man, starring that boy Ryan Gosling and Captain America himself, Chris Evans. It's a hot cast. And he pointed out a jacket that he liked that Ryan Gosling was wearing. And it's the jacket that he's trying to hunt down for his, his fall outerwear. And, uh, and, and the jacket in question was essentially like a, what, what we consider like a mechanics jacket or a work jacket. The most famous version of this is the, uh, is the Carhartt Detroit jacket. Sure. Um, but the Dickies Eisenhower is also very similar to obviously big, you know, giant
Starting point is 00:47:46 brands and that kind of that workwear sector, but that, that look and that style of a jacket is basically what you want if you're grabbing something new this fall. And the, the, the key here, the kind of the big difference from, you know, the jackets of, uh, of, of maybe a year ago, two years ago, five years ago, is that what you want on your jacket right now is a collar. Okay. Collars are in the car. You, you, you want kind of like a, like a standard collar on your jacket. And so there are lots of different styles of jackets that, that do this, but the, the, the kind of the Carhartt workwear inspired stuff is kind of out there on the forefront. Um, Oh, that is, that's a good jacket. Yeah. And so, uh, but, but there's all sorts of classics that use this. There's collared
Starting point is 00:48:35 Harrington jackets. They're, uh, you know, short coats have this type of collar. Um, and, and, uh, and, and we're the, the shift is away from, from stuff like, uh, you know, bomber jackets or like the, the motorcycle style, like leather jackets. Uh, it's a little bit more, just a little bit like, uh, more it's, it's, it's heavier on the workwear. That's so Midwest Randy. I can totally see him rocking this. Is this going to break the bank? If you're just a regular feller like myself? No, that's one of the nice things about this style of jacket is that there are a lot of lightweight options too.
Starting point is 00:49:17 And the materials are generally stuff like cotton and canvas. And so typically there are lots of options for these types of jackets uh you know on a pretty affordable end of the spectrum and even when you get into to the to that you know kind of higher end versions of these you're still usually at you know somewhere in the 300 you mentioned the dickies eisenhower i'm seeing one for 70 bucks really man that's probably an insulated padded one i think you can line yeah lined like uh kanye famously wore a just a solid black dickies eisenhower jacket to the met gala uh met gala a couple years ago that jacket's 40 bucks let's go what's he doing with the eyewear uh what is he doing with the eyewear i've just been noticing the big is he doing with the eyewear? What is he doing with the eyewear? I've just been noticing.
Starting point is 00:50:05 Is he doing the big shield thing? It looks like a modified pit viper. Yeah, yeah. Which I know those are kind of back. I don't know if, I kind of credit baseball, baseball guy for bringing those back into style, but maybe ski guy too. Yeah, when it comes to sunglasses trends,
Starting point is 00:50:22 there are celebs, models, actors, actors musicians they really lean into like the extremes so you might remember like kim kardashian and bella hadid wearing like the tiny little sunglasses like the little like morpheus looking ones a couple years ago oh yeah that that really was not for like regular people you know nobody was going and dropping four figs on like the balenciaga versions except for joe burrow kind of did yeah yeah he dipped his toe he dipped his toe um and so that that's what the the big shield type you know giant pit viper it's kind of like that to me it's kind of like a you know normies need not apply say no more dylan do you consider yourself a normie probably yeah yeah a lot uh it's it's just a very like you know kind of intentional look that that that you need a whole
Starting point is 00:51:13 wardrobe to kind of to go around if you want to do like the the crazier sunglass trends you put on something crazy and you throw on like your uh patagonia pullover right it's yeah what's what are you doing like a bit clearly um yeah all right what what should we be looking out for because can we talk uh shoes let's talk shoes i always need help i i always need help with shoes when it comes to the fall i never never know what's popping. Yeah. What's new? This is something that I'll borrow pretty much straight from one of the fall trends that we talked about on retail therapy. But shoes, like the headline is that shoes are bigger and chunkier than they have been in the past.
Starting point is 00:52:04 So you want big lug soles, you want lots of tread and that lends itself obviously to, you know, to another kind of through line that, that that's been in fashion and been in, um, male wardrobes, especially over the last few years, which is the, uh, which is Gorkor, which is all of the Arcteryx in Patagonia and, and very like mountain outdoor forward stuff. Terrics in Patagonia and very mountain outdoor forward stuff. Okay. And so that translates to shoes in the form of boots that are very hiking inspired or straight up hiking boots.
Starting point is 00:52:32 I recommended a pair of Merrells that are 120 bucks that look very fashion forward. Is that what I need if I'm going to go to Breckenridge and walk around town amongst the snow and ice? Yes. Because I was doing Breck in kill shots. That's God, that was so stupid how I didn't slip. That's a head injury waiting to happen. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:52 Um, and so, you know, Dylan, you've met, you've, you've, uh, noticed that I've been in Solomon sneakers a lot. They're gas. Um, the, I've got on a pair today. Like I'm wearing Solomon sneakers three or four times a week right now. I was going to ask if you're moving to Boulder or something, you're putting on big Boulder vibes.
Starting point is 00:53:10 That that's definitely, I mean, as we head into fall, I'm glad you mentioned like kind of stomping around and Breckenridge or wherever. Uh, I mean, recency bias, maybe feel very inspired by the summer trip that I just took to tell you ride, but like overall with all of the things that I'm going to talk about today, whether it's like the workwear style jackets, um, you know, you you're, you're getting this kind of like beat up look with a, with a more traditional collar. Uh, I'll, I'll mention again that like, if you haven't loose up, loosened up your, your denim yet, it is now officially time throw the skinny jeans out.
Starting point is 00:53:44 Uh, and like the whole news for us, the whole look, the whole look does kind of feel a little bit like, you know, it is very like that, like it's not full on mountain man, but it is very kind of rugged ranch. Like you could be in the mountains or out on the ranch or, you it just left the uh the body shop that you own but you're the owner of it does that make sense yeah yeah yeah you're not actually getting dirty you're not while you're there you're not you're not you you are you yourself are not getting on that slidey thing and rolling under the car but you could if you had to okay right so um i've been hovering over some uh my first pair of jays okay oh actually the shoes
Starting point is 00:54:34 that dave is wearing right now man inspired me these old things also dab a day from love island okay a big uh jordan one low guy yeah yeah um i think. I think I'm going to cop in the near future. Yeah, so – I'm going to wear those this fall. So the – yeah, absolutely. The Jordan 1 low is – it's a really good sneaker to get into right now. I think that the – what's been, you know, hottest sneaker in the game for the last five, six years is – or maybe it's more like four, I guess.
Starting point is 00:55:06 Four or five years, I should say. Is the Jordan 1 high? Yes. I don't think I can do that. You're in luck because the Jordan 1 high is actually on its way out. Oh, God. I just bought it like two years ago, a pair. Well, it's two years ago,
Starting point is 00:55:22 Dave. I know, but I feel like I'm not getting enough out of it. Are you talking about your Lucas? I got the Lucas and I got the Retros. Which Retros did you get? Jordan 3. Oh, the Jordan 3 is still hot. Okay.
Starting point is 00:55:36 I'm talking specifically about the Jordan 1 High. Oh, yeah, yeah. And your Lucas are actually mids, which are arguably... I think they're pretty nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not disparaging anything. Dude, I'm sitting on like eight pairs of Jordan 1 highs. They're like, this is...
Starting point is 00:55:51 I'm just calling out the movement of the trend is definitely towards other Jordans right now. Here's how you know that Nike is officially kind of like about to move on from the Jordan 1 high craze. They are releasing the alpha and the omega of. Of, of sneaker head dreams later this year, they are rereleasing. Finally, after years of people begging for it, the air Jordan one high Chicago, which is the, the, the, the classic color blocking, red, uh, red siding, white
Starting point is 00:56:22 toe box, white side panels, black swoosh, and then the, the, the blocking red siding, white toe box, white side panels, black swoosh. These are the classics. The classics. It's the all-time Jordan. As classic as it gets. The Virgil Abloh off-white version of this shoe in 2017 is essentially what set modern- day sneaker culture into motion.
Starting point is 00:56:45 Uh, that pair of retails for, for, for $7,000 on Sockex right now. Uh, people collect the 85s, the 94s, the 2015s, all of all four digits for any of these past, any of these retro Air Jordan 1 Chicagos. And they are re-releasing them, which to me is a signal that like the Jordan one run that it's been on for the last five years, the Jordan one high run is, is towards its end. Because they're kind of going in for the, the, the big finale culmination Jordan one low on the other hand fits a little bit better into, to, to the 2022 aesthetic. And they're moving on pushing Jordan threes, fire reds just dropped this weekend. Um, very, another very famous classic, like OG colorway of Jordan shoe.
Starting point is 00:57:33 Uh, the Jordan four is still really big right now. And threes and fours, you'll note kind of call back to what I said at the jump on, on footwear. They're bigger, they're chunkier. They're a little bit more hefty than the Jordan one high. Yeah. They're not there. The, you know, the Jordan, the Jordan one high was so popular for so long
Starting point is 00:57:50 because it was very sleek because it, it fit under a slimmer pair of jeans, slimmer pair of, uh, of pants. So, so the, the, the threes, fours, a one lows. I, I, there, there are a couple of, I love the ones that Dave got. There are a couple of very similar colorways that dave got there are a couple of very similar colorways that are about to drop that that i really like um i'm gonna get some i'm doing it and then do it live the other the other shoe that i'm gonna call out as like a possible splurge for literally anybody watch listening to the podcast today male or Uh, you mentioned kill shots, Dave. So Tom Sachs, the big, you know,
Starting point is 00:58:28 NASA astronaut guy that, that famously did the Mars yard, Nike shoes, another sneaker that is like ultimate grail status. He has released, uh, two additions and, uh, and about to release a third color way of his new shoe with Nike called the GPS, the General Purpose shoe. And if you pull this up, it's the Tom Sachs Nike Craft General Purpose shoe. You will see that it's essentially like a kill shot on steroids. Ooh. Wow. That's why I hit you up the other week.
Starting point is 00:59:00 I said I need an alternative to kill shots. Yeah. Tom Sachs General Purpose. Okay. I'm here yeah now the uh the this the first version that they did which is the the white upper on the gum midsole with the blue accents yeah the kill shot colors right there it it is that one is going to run you about 400 bucks on the on the secondary market so it's a big splurge but i actually like the yellow one better.
Starting point is 00:59:31 And those are hovering at about 200, which is not quite double what these retailed for. It's a reasonable splurge. And yeah, and I'm, I'm acknowledging that this is a splurge. Um, here's the thing. I think the value of, of this shoe is only going to go up because it does have that Tom Sachs name behind it. And I, and this is a shoe that because it is supposed to be so democratic and simplistic and general purpose, it almost doesn't matter what you're into fashion wise or what you're wearing. This shoe is going to work with what you have in your closet. These are kind of gas. Yeah. Can we pivot over to the ladies? Can you give us a, we can, we can, you said these were for the ladies too okay yeah yeah so good so decent segue here interesting are the uh the big chunky i know you mentioned that that's kind of the style but like the over the top 90s chunk is that's is that
Starting point is 01:00:17 continuing on yes there is there's definitely some of that um for ladies, you know, like the, the, the, the Chelsea boot with like a big fat, more Tyree soul is still pretty big. And then, so, you know, you can really lean into that nineties vibe of that with like brands like doc Martens. Um, there are obviously like some, some really, uh, fat fashion stuff. That's doing that as well. Uh, you know, for the, for the girls in the warmer climates, you can get the same look with like a loafer. If you don't want like a full, you know, ankle boot or lace up boot
Starting point is 01:00:51 or something like that, you know, it doesn't, it's not going to cool down here for another two months. Uh, and then, I mean, you know, sneakers, it's, it's, uh, it's, it's honestly a lot of the same stuff that it is for guys right now. Like there's not, I'm not seeing a lot that's specific for women in the shoe department other than like, you know, I mean, we can talk like high end, like heels and pumps and kind of like more nightlux going out vibes. Right. When like the, you know, kind of a lot of glitzy sandals and pumps, um, brands like Paris, Texas and, and mock and mock are like really big for that kind of like that glow up that, that night out look.
Starting point is 01:01:33 But as far as like your general casual wear, it's, it's chunkier sneakers, it's lug sold boots, it's Birkenstocks. So there's a lot of crossover between the men's and women's footwear right now. stocks. So there's a lot of crossover between the men's and women's footwear right now. Did Ons and Allbirds kill the driving loafer for the dude right out of college working in a big town? Yes, I would say so. And then I think a lot of those guys have picked up on two things. One, the penny loafer, the leather sold penny loafer picked up steam and fashion as well. And so it kind of came in and crushed that soft sold bottom. Um, and then, uh, the, the, a lot of those dudes are actually kind of on the Birkenstock wave too, because that's such a kind of a classic, like, like that's one of those things that just comes in and out of
Starting point is 01:02:21 fashion every five years. Basically I can think back to like high school dudes where I'm Birkenstocks with their Abercrombie. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like there was some of that and then it went away and then it came back and then it went away and then it came back. And now it's like the, the clogs, um, or the Bostons are super hot right now. Uh, but the classic, like Arizona two strap sandal also very big. Um, but yeah, yeah. but yeah yeah your your point is your insight is a good one the the the i mean so really right on all birds it's really athleisure
Starting point is 01:02:54 kind of killed that tech bro athleisure really kind of killed the driving loafer i would say that makes sense um man i'm sitting here trying to like go through my my roll decks of jeans i learned so much how many of these how many pairs of jeans i will now be torching or no just i'll donate them or just cut them into jorts yeah it's it's it's not that slim is bad it's like it's more what i'm saying is that like if i can see your calf muscle they need to go what if you don't have calf muscles well then i'd say you're in luck okay dylan but if you see these things if you're getting any type of like that's mega thin like yeah slim i should say yeah yeah um okay that's good to know but any you know if if they're kind
Starting point is 01:03:35 of if they're hugging your ankle a little too much if they're if you've got nothing coming onto your shoes a little bit like got it if you if if if the jeans stretch stretch when you flex your quad oh yeah that's the type of that's what i'm talking about again difficult for me no there's there's always room for for you know just a nice slim cut i've got some cool kids on the street and i see them walking to walking to school and they're doing the socks. The Brando, really, the socks with Crocs. That's a big look amongst the high school kids. I can't get behind the Crocs thing. Look, I'm 38.
Starting point is 01:04:13 I've never owned a pair of Crocs. I'm probably not going to ever own a pair of Crocs. I'm a Chacos guy. Everybody knows that. So if I need something to be out and about. Everyone does know that. You are too. You hopped on that wave a little bit after me.
Starting point is 01:04:31 What do you think about the crocs yeah i mean so the crocs kind of fall into like the the popularity of mules and clogs right now and so there there's a whole version of that shoe that you know everybody from crocs to fear of God, a high end like streetwear designer brand is doing, which is essentially like a rubber or kind of polyurethane EVA, you know, like water tolerable shoe. Right. And so you've got like Crocs. I think part of the reason that they're so popular is because you can pick up a pair of Crocs for $40. You don't have to get on StockX and buy the Yeezy Foam Runner for $250. You know what I mean? You need to get those.
Starting point is 01:05:13 No, I don't. They're very accessible. They can be accessorized. I'm not sure if you guys have seen versions like the Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville ones. No, but I'm interested. They come with these things called... shit, what are they called? There's some name for like the little adornments and little decorations that go into the holes. There's a Crocs Jimmy Buffett collab.
Starting point is 01:05:36 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I take back everything I said about being 38 and not owning Crocs. There are a lot of Crocs collabs with many famous people. Yeah, there's Minions crocs uh gibbets rise of grew gibbets are what the uh are what the crocs decorations are called so i think that that lends itself to like the young people wearing them they're customizable you can throw all sorts of flair on them um but yeah yeah they they really they're kind of ugly for the sake of being ugly. You know, that's, that's, they're, they're intentionally like that. And so it's, it's, it's, uh, that, that when you wear them, that's kind of the intentional
Starting point is 01:06:12 look that you're going for it. You know, I think that if you like, if, if you kind of want to play in this arena, but you don't necessarily want Crocs, the Merrell Hydro Mach is like your obvious kind of answer. It's kind of in between a Croc and the UZ foam runner when i when i wear my white ones people always stop me and ask me if they're if they are uzi foam runners um they are not they're merrell hydromock it's good to know who inspired who on that one uh the kanye's took from the Merrill Hydro mod. Huh. Yeah. Right now I'm eyeing these. I'm back on J's real quick. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:48 Yeah. The one, the Jordan 1 Low Marina Blue. I feel like it's not so loud. Like I could get away with these, you know? Yeah. Totally. You know, hit him with some jeans and those. He's going to hit him with some jeans.
Starting point is 01:07:03 I'm good to go. Fuck yeah. Get him. Do it. Do it. If you you're real i might pull a trig you should barrett anything else before we uh get out of here and do a little small biz september yeah uh let's see i think i had one other thing on my list that i wanted to talk about that i was just gonna throw out there let me double check uh yeah okay been getting a lot of questions about about corduroy so this is definitely um one of the the fabrics of the season heading into fall uh and you know i know you guys are like circling back as a very shacket positive podcast i would say gotta give him credit jillian was one of the first that's right thank
Starting point is 01:07:46 you david uh so if you are if you're looking to to add a kind of a button up that maybe leans into shacket territory corduroy is absolutely the way to go um our friends at cricket just dropped one i think that yeah they might have yeah yeah i wouldn't be surprised um there is i you know i i popped on i popped on to three of my favorite kind of like very accessible brands all three of them like first first or second page there's a corduroy shirt slash over shirt so i got one i got one pulled up at uniclo called the corduroy work long sleeve shirt. I got one at J crew. It's the garment dyed corduroy CPO shirt and at Abercrombie and fish. You got the relaxed corduroy shirt jacket. I don't think any of these are we're we're we're talking that 40 bucks at
Starting point is 01:08:34 Uniqlo 63 at J crew 68 at Abercrombie. Shack season is approaching. So the, the, uh uh solid color corduroy that's the move if you want just kind of a very versatile wear it anywhere wear it all the time you know little addition to your to your fall wardrobe to go with those looser denims and those those tom sacks gps give me your top three stores in the mall in the year 2003 in the year 2003 so high school barrett yeah going to the mall i don't know what the gallery what's yeah yeah i spent 90 of my time in abercrombie and fitch 2003 i was i i rode the i rode abercrombie and fitch to best dressed in high school just
Starting point is 01:09:20 nobody could fox with nobody in fox could could fox with the level within with the the, with the amount of Abercrombie and Fitch that I had. They can't fuck with them. Yeah. This man's cooking. That shit's inspiring. Uh, number two though, other, the other mall stores that, that I would have to throw into the mix, uh, journeys. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:39 I spent some time at journeys, get some Doc Martens, get some Doc Martens, get some, that's where I started. That's where I, I, you know, picked up my first pair of like skating shoes you know yeah i went in there a couple years ago and it's i immediately regretted it because i was like i don't need to be here they know i don't need to be here i'm gonna leave and i did and then uh number three i would say was uh was structure which then turned into express men I was on my structure bullshit back then. For sure. You fucked with it heavy. I did. I was on that wave. No love for Hollister. No, I never got, I didn't quite get into, to, I mean, you know, I had a, I had a thing or two
Starting point is 01:10:17 from Hollister, but, um, but it, it, they just, I was just so deep into the A&F life. Was A&F, or let me ask you this, were you ever an A&F model? Did you ever stand out front shirtless? That's a great question. I never stood out front shirtless. I didn't have quite the size. Did they take a beefier lad? How hunky they they're the original college hunks they all grew up to be college hunks who hauled they to get the shirtless out out front gig you really needed to
Starting point is 01:10:55 be like like six feet minimum i think oh you know and just totally hairless too and very yeah ripped and skinny and not a hair but i did i did i feel like the you know the the one thing that that if you were inside an abercrombie and fitch like the the best thing that could happen to you while shopping is that one that somebody came up to you and asked you if you'd like to work here if you if if you have you ever considered working it happened to me all the time um and that did that did happen to me on a couple of occasions. So that was a little feather in my 2003 cap. It's quite the brag. It's quite the brag.
Starting point is 01:11:28 Happened to me when I was shopping at Mervin's. The regionally specific store. Mervin's. I haven't heard that name in a while. Shout out Mervin's. Hey, you want a model for us? Randy, have you gotten that call at Kohl's yet? Oh, he shakes his head.
Starting point is 01:11:43 That's too bad. That's tough, buddy. Perfect. Can you just picture Randy just standing out front, shirtless at Kohl's yet? Oh, he shakes his head. That's too bad. That's tough, buddy. Perfect. Can you just picture Randy just standing out front shirtless at Kohl's? Yeah. As a Kohl's model. Can we do a TikTok or some video where you're just out there? I don't even know what you're hawking.
Starting point is 01:11:56 You got a QR code tatted onto your peck. Gives people 15% off. Well, that was a lot of fun. That was a lot of fun. It was a lot of fun. Thank you, Barrett. Yeah, of course. It's always so enlightening to have you on. Got two shout-outs here before we go.
Starting point is 01:12:13 Small Biz September. We want to give our first shout-out to Gray's Shared Kitchen. This is from listener Cody. It's his dad's restaurant in Toledo, Ohio. It's called Gray's Exclamation Shared Kitchen. His dad purchased the restaurant in January of 2020. Obviously, it was not the best time to purchase a restaurant as COVID, the ongoing global pandemic, Dylan, was about to hit hard.
Starting point is 01:12:38 Since then, he has persevered by changing up the menu and becoming a, quote, ghost kitchen. What's a ghost kitchen? Ghosts are the cooks. Everything's done by ghosts. That's accurate. Okay, chef. You don't have to pay them.
Starting point is 01:12:56 Can't see you, chef, as you are a ghost. Anyway, offering a variety of different kinds of food, from pizza and wings to Olga's Mediterranean, which Will might be familiar with as they are quite popular in Michigan. We'll have to ask him, shoot him a text. offering a variety of different kinds of food from pizza and wings to Olga's Mediterranean, which Will might be familiar with as they are quite popular in Michigan. We'll have to ask him, shoot him a text. With labor becoming harder and harder to find, his dad has had to get creative when it comes to getting orders out the door in a timely manner,
Starting point is 01:13:17 even delivering orders himself. They have unbelievable wings, pizza, and a new twist on an old favorite, provolone sticks. Everything you need for game day, except for hummus, which Dylan clearly needs. Come to me for the hummus. He's the hummus guy. Go to Gray's for the real shit. Well,
Starting point is 01:13:35 shout out to Toledo and shout out to Gray's shared kitchen. Final show. Oh yeah. Order online at gray's American.com. If you're in the area, shout to Cody B for reaching out on behalf of his old man. That's pretty cool. Shout out to two listeners who got engaged or tied the knot. Jacqueline and Tony.
Starting point is 01:13:51 Oh, let's see if they, uh, I think they got engaged. Shout out Jacqueline. Oh, I saw that hit the T. They're a backer.
Starting point is 01:13:56 If memory serves. Yeah. I don't want to overstate the significance that, um, our podcast, we brought them together, but we pretty much made, we are the reasons that they found out. They don't us so uh yeah that's that that's got to feel good
Starting point is 01:14:09 we would like to name your first child please i have i have uh shooters on the ground that said he they did get engaged they're not married yet but he did say let me be the first to say will you marry me of course a callback to to Randy's infamous birthday shout out to me, I believe. When everybody forgot my birthday except for Randy. A shout out to Randy for that. Very cool. Well, that's great stuff. And I'd like to offer that nice couple a special appearance at their child's first birthday party.
