Man, we have an experience there, so it's cool.
For sure, man.
We out here in Orlando doing a little bit of Lord's work.
Got a special guest on our left.
Tenure vet, one of the coolest dudes to ever play in the NBA.
Been around a long time.
Great scenes, great stories, and everybody speaks nothing but high respect to this man.
We got Tyus Gibson in the building.
Tyus, appreciate you pulling up on this big dog.
Yo, fellas.
It's a pleasure, man.
Been watching a lot of episodes.

Who the most fucked up person on the show?
You watch it, bro.
You had me a little bit some days.
Yeah.
Is he like that?
Come on, Tosh.
But being around the Midwest, y'all some of the most coolest guys.
Yeah, for sure.
You got to understand the temperament.
I've been around a long time, so I laugh with it.
I can take a joke, bro.
So I ain't going to make you pick.
It's cool.
He made a decision.
It was just you.
The decision was made.
He's well prepared, right?
He did.
For sure, man.
Listen, man.
Y'all got a crazy order story, man.
Normally, we ask about your preps going to, obviously, you know what I'm saying?
You went crazy in high school.
I want to fast forward a little bit.
No, we on the road.
We ain't used to this type of merger.
I'm sitting like, be hitting this.
Get your posture together, man.
I need a slouch.
Get your posture straight.
That motherfucker got some sprinters on today.
Yeah, I was like, I'm going to take it out.
Like, I do.
You know, this motherfucker is locked in.
Shout out to the suite.
Hey, you know what I'm saying?
Once upon a time, you was making a college decision.
That's when y'all first crossed paths, man.
Yeah, Tim Floyd was recruiting me at USC, and Taj was already there.
And O.J. Mayo, me and him was the same year.
Taj was there.
I went to campus, and they like, yeah, everybody get a truck.
Taj had the big boy expedition.
I'm like, yo, they getting money.
My pops like, you're not going there.
They do not do things by the book.
I was like, yeah, I need to be there. Taj had it already. I was like, I need to be there.
Taj had it
already. I was like, oh, he's shining.
Whole time, I'm
thinking they cheap. I'm like, man,
Wake Forest got it.
Wake Forest
had no money.
Wake Forest had no money.
We got some money, but
it wasn't USC money.
No, Wake Forest wouldn't fuck with that NIL back then.
Nah, I mean, eventually.
We was taken care of.
Expeditions was fire back then.
Yeah.
You went to 06, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, that was elite.
Nah, it was shining.
You was living different.
Nah, it was shining.
I got to ask y'all, around that time period, what was them cars that was like?
Obviously, we was all the time time We was wishing we could get them
What was that car
You was just like
I gotta have that
Or it was outside
That was crazy
Cause like back then
The Lincoln Navigator
Was like the Kodachin R
To me
Nah I wanted
The Bubble Caprice
We had some
I knew it was shit
I wanted a Bubble Caprice
I wanted the
The H
Was the H2
The H2
That's what I had
Legendary vehicle I had that I had the H2 It was the H2. That's what I had.
Legendary vehicle.
I had that.
I had the H2, and I had a black one.
I had an H3 Hummer, a real one.
It eat gas.
Yeah, it do.
And the hoop sessions was legit in there, motherfuckers.
That back seat laid down in that house.
You're going to get some work done.
Oh, yeah.
You're going to get some real work done.
Study all.
Buy a room, bro.
Buy a room, bro. Buy a room, bro.
All right, Taj.
Imagine this nigga sliding on you with the black forces with the white laces and a Hummer.
You don't know what type of time he on.
Taj.
I know.
I know for one he down for whatever.
For sure.
He still good time.
He down for whatever in them spaces.
Shout out to whatever your situation is now.
I'm saying back there, the 06 when niggas was young
You could have borrowed it bro
We could have swapped it out
That's crazy
Work is nasty
Nasty work bro
Nasty work bro
I can take the Eddie Bowie I can take the Eddie Bowie I love when we part out of town.
Taj, man, how'd you get to USC, man?
Shit, man.
Man, I was waiting around a long time.
I didn't know if I was was gonna even make it to college
be honest with you um i was thinking i was going to go to jc route if not that damn pop i was just
gonna go straight to construction just try to just get a hustle maybe do what i gotta do and
make make ends meet but that's how that's how most black men have kind of figured it out
when i was coming up i was just like damn like la is a little different my friends getting
kicked out of the house left and right a lot of single families it was it was a little scary but
i didn't but by the grace of god that last day i got i just so happened to get qualified i did
not think i was passing that sat i did not think i was getting those grades. I was like, it's up.
When I got in that door, man,
God just worked with you in so many different places,
and faith was strong, man, to be honest with you.
Salute.
And it's like, especially, obviously,
we're telling our age with this,
but to hear that time period,
how many times have people had to wait for those type of tests when it's just like a lot of them tests
ain't even built for us to even pass
or be successful in.
Like, not trying to be
on our walk shit,
but that stuff wasn't designed
for us to better ourselves.
So it's just like
for you to have to wait
to that last decision,
that shit is crazy.
That's tough.
I'm glad it worked out for you,
but like,
to get on the lighter side,
like,
coming out of high school,
how much money you think
you would've got off the NIL?
Even though they paid you
AOC, but don't worry about that.
But if you would have been coming out right now.
Low ball number.
It's 500.
Ooh, facts.
It's 500.
Bro, facts.
Because we came up in a time where dudes was really official.
Yeah.
Like, when you look at it now, it's a little bit watered down.
And we kind of contributed to that
but coming up even looking back on some of the highlights i'm looking i missed the long shorts
i mean this this the small stuff about it like that's what i love about our um draft class like
even though we we all doing our own things but we all love like we always made sure we showed each
other love and that's a fact That's a fact
That's hard bro
I damn near got
Everybody's jersey
In our draft class
Besides
Ricky Rubio
Coincidence?
Nah
I asked him
I just ain't never get
Shout out to Ricky
He didn't get it to you bro
Give us some
He forgave you by now
I'll take a Barcelona jersey
For sure bro
That's right bro Show love Ricky Give us some real. He forgave you by now. I'll take a Barcelona jersey. For sure, bro.
That's right, bro.
Show love, Ricky.
Show love.
Yeah, man.
The NIL shit is so crazy because like working with some of the top prospects going on now,
like they in high school seeing tickets before they even get to college.
Yeah.
And like it's so hard to keep them reeled in. But at the same time, just like i'm making generational money at 16 what you really gonna tell me and now they get so much money off
the social media sites it's a totally different ball game now i think a lot of that camaraderie
is lost because everything is legitimately a business now yeah that's true yeah how do you
combat that like as far as like keeping them like obviously you're talking to the young kids like
i'm already at this level but how do you keep them grounded obviously with you coaching with the kids like
how do y'all keep them somewhat focused when it's so easy to get lost with this shit uh me i just
try to it's so tough because i've never been in that position to make money in high school so i
don't even know how to navigate it for them like i can speak from like the nba experience like try
to do this try to do that like as far as like saving and stuff but like to get
money at 17 18 i don't i can't help you because i don't know what i would have did at 16 with
500 000 i know what i did working at meyer with 500 and that shit was gone
them jordan's enforcers was every weekend so I can't even imagine what they're doing, how they feel.
Hell yeah.
My opinion, you got to think about it.
You got to look at the parents, too.
You got to look at it.
You got to zoom in on how the household is.
Half these kids not even checking that account.
Moms and dad, or either just moms got that account.
He may be doing his little thing, but the parents are mostly getting all the money.
Then you got a crew.
He got his uncle, uncle, cousins, a few guys.
So he already getting trained to be in that mindset of taking care of the family already at 17.
Before you know it, he'd be 22, 23, popped, broke, trying to play overseas,
trying to do what he got to do, and nobody's teaching him nothing.
Because once the money's gone, they don't tell you that everybody falls back.
Your homie can fall back off the field just telling them, no, I got it right now.
But he don't know you really messed up like that.
The money go really quick, fellas.
And I'm on a back end a little bit right now, and I'm just looking like, man.
I'm preparing for the next level, and I'm seeing a lot of guys really not not there like
they really still trying to get back into the league wondering why I don't want to be that
kind of guy begging like yo pick me pick me yo please why didn't I why can I not just take it
and keep it pushing this game is twisted for real yeah that's not that's real and even I mean we
ain't gonna fast forward too much but being a breadwinner in your house,
if you get drafted at 21, 22, like you said,
to be there at 17, 18, that's an absurd amount of pressure.
Because they don't even know how taxes work yet.
Nah, that's tough.
That's tough.
I mean, you're going to run through the majority of it,
but shit, hopefully when they go to these universities,
give them some type of financial literacy class or something.
At least, bro. Yeah. Just give them somebody type of financial literacy class or something at least bro yeah just give them somebody gotta have a course bro that's why i'm like excited about what
the nba pa is doing with this the top 100 camp yeah they got classes they're gonna learn about
that but being around guys like tides who've been in the league for 15 plus years it's like
they can give you that advice like him just saying that and somebody watching it gonna be like yeah that's that's valuable you know i mean for sure for sure yo we're this close to
crowning a new nba champion and with the playoffs coming to an end you've got to have the advantage
of the draft king sportsbook and official sports betting partner of the nba all you got to do
download the drag team sportsbook app now and use code CLUB520.

Y'all had a whip,
you know what I'm saying? You was in there with
who would have been probably one of the biggest NIL
stars of all time, the homie Juice.
That's my man.
Shout out to Juice, big fan of the pod.
Hey, man.
Y'all, you almost went there, but y'all had something special, man.
Yeah, man.
Shit.
We had Jeff, man.
Forget about it.
But it worked out how it worked out.
Juice, when he came, like, people don't understand how good he was.
And I didn't understand
like money
until Juice
really got there
like I didn't understand
like the real perception
behind money
how to be a pro
he's a
he's a freshman
and I'm really figuring out
like this the NBA lifestyle
like this how you supposed
to carry it
like
and I'm not ashamed
I'm ashamed to say that
cause most
cause I'm always gonna give guys
This flower
Like I learned a lot from Juice
And a lot of dudes
Gotta learn a lot
Juice was giving out bread
Making sure dudes could eat
And people ain't gonna
Never tell you that about Juice
They gonna say
He came
He was nice
He got the bread
He took some bread and left
No
Juice got that bread
And Juice was making sure
Every man on the team had money
Yeah
If he went somewhere
We was with him
So like You gotta look at the whole spectrum of this game.
You got to take what you can.
Take your family with you.
Constantly smile because you suck as a boy.
I think he's trying to pull you down every minute of the game.
That's a fact.
Nah, we sure love the juice for real.
So, it's good to hear you say that because it'd be a lot of smut being put on this night for sure.
That's dope though, but you had a chance to play with DeMar too.
So to have two premier shooting guards on your team,
what was that like having OJ the next year?
DeMar come in and it's like...
The crazy thing about it, I came into the situation it was nick young
and i'm like swaggy that's three people understand like swaggy we had multiple scouts in the gym
that's when i knew like all right if i got if i want to really work hard get to the league let
me just try to just be next to him and i wasn't one of those guys i'm one of those teammates like
i'm if if i don't know some i'm gonna ask you that i've never been that kind of guy just be
like i don't mess with him i just try to ask you. I've never been that kind of guy. I just be like, nah, I don't mess with them.
I just try to show as much love as I can because you only got 24 hours in a day, man.
You're dropping like flies.
But first thing, I had Nick.
Nick was the first one to go.
Lottery.
OJ came in.
I'm like, damn, we're coming in here.
So now, step your shit up.
You're going to have a chance to go to the league.
OJ come in,
he leave.
I'm like,
third year,
I'm like,
I'm ready to go, man.
It's not that many girls
left on campus.
You know everybody.
It's like,
the money is not the same.
You're looking around
at your counterparts like,
I ain't feeling this.
And you look at your head coach,
like he's still making
three, four million dollars a year. You something i gotta get out of here then tomorrow
come but that's my brother though it's recipes the pops yeah this pops it a lot for me is when
i first moved to california i didn't know nobody his dad from the first old jesus like if you ever
need anything call my phone if you if you ever feel homesick, we here.
You come to Compton, you good.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
And I always remember to this day, and then the year that he passed a few years ago,
it kind of rocked me to my core, but it shows me, like,
you never know who's going to give you that words of inspiration.
You know what I'm saying?
You never know who's going to, like, really look out for you
because this man is so confident.
Like, I'm from Brooklyn, New York.
I didn't know nobody.
I'm mismatching.
I'm getting banged on, gang banged on.
Yo, where you from?
Oh, come on.
Come on.
I'm like, hold on a second.
I'm not going to tell you a horrifying story.
Close, close, close.
We don't let you go out like that, man.
No, I can't go out like that. That's just hard-fought story, man. Pull, pull, pull. We don't let you go out like that, man. Nah, I can't go out like that.
That's just every category.
I told him my personal business, man.
You know what I'm saying?
Nah, that's good that he pulled you in.
I said pull him, though.
Yeah, we fucking with you, bro.
I get young kids back home.
I'm like, you know, them young kids.
But it's tough, man.
Like, I don't know how I'm here, bro.
Be honest.
Hard work, bro.
Yeah.
For a green.
Can't tell you people say they've been in the league 15 years, bro.
For real.
For sure, bro.
You would hit in jail.
Like, each day I wake up, man, and I still get that phone call.
It's still like, why me?
I'm still saying that to myself.
Yeah.
Like, when I got the call early in the year, I'm'm on the i'm really watching y'all like i'm chilling the couch i'm like i don't
know like every player goes through that yeah like at one point after you get cut that right before
the season starts you like i think i'm done you know what i'm saying like if you really work and
you be like i don't know. Let me see.
And then you get that phone call.
I'm like, man, am I doing something crazy?
Am I taking the spot that somebody needs?
You can't think like that because the motherfucker told me,
nobody going to give a fuck about your mom and dad.
Nobody going to give a fuck about your kids.
Nobody going to give a fuck about your cousins.
Do what you got to do.
Yeah, 100. Yeah. Take that bread and run. Smile. nobody gonna fuck about your cousins do what you gotta do yup 100 yup
take that bread
and run
smile
run
run
get the bread
and run
run
who else
has recruited you though
I had
most of
USC
before USC
most of my schools
I wanted
I wanted to stay
on the west coast
by that time
I had a full hold
on the west coast
of UCLA
Arizona Texas teams I can run I wanted to stay on the West Coast. By that time, I had a full hold on the West Coast. It was UCLA, Arizona, Texas.
Teams I can run, UConn.
Teams on the East Coast was UConn, St. John's.
I had a few, but my grades wasn't there.
So I had to really take my time and figure out, like,
what team is really going to, like, help me.
Like, SC was coming through, making sure I had tutors making
sure I had to get through what I had to get through okay no salute taking care of that only
way it's supposed to all right nah thanks bro and I didn't put two and two together but you was a
SC when SC football was yeah man yeah it was a juggernaut so we all was you know hell of a time
to be on campus they took care of us They took good care of us at that school,
man, I tell you.
Shout out to that seat,
man.
I went to the right
school for me,
but I ain't gonna lie,
I wanted to go there,
though.
I was like,
that shit hard.
My dad was like,
wait, no,
no way.
I know that was hard
passing up on UConn
and Syracuse
and St. John's.
It was tough
because you look at
UConn,
they had Stanley Robinson
rest in peace
Kirk Kelly
Kirk Kelly was wrong
they just forget about him
yeah
Hashim to beat
they had
they had a lot of bigs
and then
you got that grace period
when you waiting
for the signing
and you waiting
to see who's gonna come
to your house
early in the morning
on one of those days
on the draft
doing that little
recruiting process.
And you be like, oh, they don't really like me like that.
They ain't show up.
So, you see who's really like, all right, I'm here.
I'm here for you.
For sure.
For sure.
Obviously, going through the draft process, got to ask, how was that?
You know what I'm saying?
Waiting your turn in USC, and now you get your big turn in the league.
How was that?
And what was that first thing you went crazy on?
You know what I'm saying?
I know you smart with your money, but what was that first,
like, I'm here now, I'm about to make that big boy purchase?
First thing, draft process was crazy.
It was just, like, I'm already in L.A.
Most of the women go to my school that hang with all the NBA players.
So I'm already really acclimated to, like, the process.
But that whole draft process was so special
because I got to see so many young men who never really had money really coming to having money and it was
a beautiful time seeing terrence williams so many different guys so many different guys in that
drag class james hardens or everybody just starting to move and be their own person before they was
that person and you like you're just seeing like all right we starting to get
to this bread now you see all right it's a big game now you see grown women coming at you you
see Cruz you see everybody just starting to form and that's the process that I wish I was a little
bit more prepared for because I blew a lot of bread just having too much fun. Just not knowing what to expect.
Buying chains, just trying to fit the image.
You're trying to keep up the Joneses.
It was a great time.
Back then, there was no Instagram, too.
Man, I'm telling you, it was tricky.
Huh?
It was tricky.
Hey, man.
We was filthy.
Tricky, too.
We was filthy. was filthy We was filthy
Listen we was
You ain't gotta die
You ain't gotta die
Yo we was
I'm just saying
Financial literacy
Every night it was
We was filthy
Ties were covered
Ties got right Listen I still remember I still remember
I still remember
Our rookie pitchers
Bro in New York
Damn
That shit was
I was like damn
I still remember
Our shorts was big as shit
That's crazy
Still remember that day
I remember seeing them
Like damn
We in the league
Him and James
They had the Bush jerseys
And shit
I was like damn That's hard My jerseys and shit. I was like, damn.
That's hard.
My jerseys was weak as shit.
Damn.
That Hawks jersey, it blew.
It was weak.
They had the, you know, Jordan wore the Bulls.
He's like, you know, we from that Midwest.
I'm seeing them in they Bulls jerseys.
I'm like, damn, that's hard.
That's funny.
I got to ask both of y'all this.
Both of y'all know something.
Played for a couple teams.
What was y'all favorite jerseys?
My favorite jersey team, mine was the Timber couple teams. What was your favorite jerseys? My favorite jersey team,
mine was the Timberwolves.
We had some hard jerseys.
Mm-hmm.
That jersey was hard.
Them lime green ones.
Yeah.
The Prince joints was hard.
The Prince joints was crazy.
The gray ones was tough.
I still got this.
Yeah.
It was between probably Chicago
and I would say New York.
Oh, yeah.
Them iconic jerseys.
I just grew up watching those teams.
Pretty tough.
What about you?
Me?
Shit.
Probably I want some real shit when he was with the Hawks.
I remember I seen my big bro Terrell.
He had that motherfucking Hawks jacket.
Them jerseys that match, I'm like, yeah.
The bird.
Oh, yeah, the Mookie Blacklock joints?
Yeah, them were special.
Yeah, them jerseys.
I see you got the flyers.
I'm smart.
You know what I'm saying?
Oh, man, still to me to this day, them are the flyers jerseys.
It's still that penny jersey, the striped Orlando joints.
Oh, yeah, them flyers.
Them are still like, and the Flojo.
I mean, from that, I got a hold of The Flojo Pacers jersey
Is crazy
But that
That black pinstripe
Orlando jersey
Especially back in the day
When niggas had the
Starter joints
Them was just different bro
My favorite jersey
Of all time
Is the Lamar Odom
Which one?
The Clippers jersey
That's when he was

That's a hell of a pick, bro.
That two-man is nuts, bro.
No assists.

he's the most loved in the locker room.
He get along with everybody,
one through 15.
So we had a meeting one time,

what happened in the meeting,
but he was like,
all I could remember,
you know,
I think everything's funny.
He was like, we not doing that, funny He was like We not doing that yo
Son
We not doing that
Then New York came out
No son

I was like
ah this shit's crazy
I knew it was over
very
y'all locker room
was fucked up bro
it was messed up
at that time
but yeah
y'all really
y'all really had a
fire ass team man
nah
it was a fun team, though.
It was fun.
It was.
What you think went wrong, Tosh?
You can speak on that.
Hey, man.
Nah, as far as the lineup, as far as guys getting money,
everybody was, young guys got paid first.
Yeah.
They was trying to give Jimmy some bread,
but it wasn't enough
money it wasn't that kind of money jimmy was basically like yo show me like i'm the alpha
show me i'm the guy and respectively he was he was the guy that was taking all the big shots
setting guys up yeah but not only that he was chest out and dudes too yeah yo if you do that
again i'm beating you up i mama. I'm like, oh
Yes, what you want I just was Chicago with you Jimmy you ain't yeah, but then
Who Eric um, I that's when when that didn't happen. I said, oh man, but I thought it was it could still be men
but As a year went on that's when the guy didn't that that round that time when Jimmy was like I'm ready to go
I'm like, oh man, come on Jimmy.my we bought this come on man we got something good for a couple years
i'm trying to re-up yeah like if you pay attention to the game like you pay attention like who like
my guys be looking out for god like yo come on we got you bro so when i seen i'm like well yeah we got one like facts coach got the whole joint we got win a few games all right we you know jimmy like
i'm out of here i don't want i don't want to talk to you you you who me
i know i know he wanted to swing out Come in It was just It was crazy bro
I'm just happy
It worked out for him though
Cause at the end of the day
We all family
Everybody
You know what I mean
Yeah
I'm glad y'all still got
Short relationships though
Nah Jimmy
That's dope
Jimmy that's my guy
Yeah
We was
I'm in the meetings bro
It's me bro
Now I tell y'all
Y'all know how we do meetings
Imagine me trying to convince
Somebody to stay somewhere
Like Jimmy
Come on bro He like T you don't even give a fuck Yup I'm like I do I do Imagine me trying to convince somebody to stay somewhere. Like, come on, bro.
He like, T, you don't even give a fuck.
I'm like, I do.
I do.
Like, where you going?
He like, I want to leave.
You going to take me what you want to do?
I'm out of here.
I'm done.
I'm done.
I'm done.
I'm like, yo, that's funny as hell.
I wanted to ask you, bro.
When you got drafted, like he said, being from Brooklyn,
like everybody want to play in New York.
You got drafted in Chicago.
You play in Minnesota.
You go to OKC.
You play in Minnesota.
Then you get a chance to go back home to New York.
Like, what's that like playing for the Knicks, bro?
You wake up angry every day.
I didn't expect that.
It's time.
No, I mean, in a way, like, it's amazing.
But as far as your temperament and being like every day you're waking up.
Like in Minnesota, you're not going to see anybody.
You're going to wake up.
You're going to just go in your car.
It's freezing cold.
You're not going to see anybody.
You're going to go straight into the gym and just see your teammates go home you ain't gonna see nobody new york man my first
day my first year there i'm in the elevator every morning i'm running into somebody every morning
like what what the hell happened go to the truck you go get a bodega go to the bodega across the
street get a sandwich garbage truck guys there 5 a.m 6 a.m
they like yo what happened yo then you got people on the street regular y'all suck i hate you every
day but literally every day damn good bad ain't no nah you gotta wake up like no every day i was
waking up like when we won i couldn't be like let's go i had to be like
i had to look at him like i had to look at i had to look at the family don't say nothing to me
nigga where'd you live man i was living man
elevators don't get me started my elevator was stopped literally 20 stops before we got to the but that's home
so I'm used to it
so I'm like
every person
like
good or bad
gonna say something
so you gotta have
some tough skin
some days
you didn't wanna deal
with that shit
I was trying to
describe to people
like how it is
playing in the garden
like I know
not playing for the Knicks
but when you go there
like you wanna have
the best game
of your life
like
the fans the arena the environment like everybody fresh on the court sides girls When you go there Like you want to have The best game of your life Like The fans
The arena
The environment
Like everybody fresh
On the court side
It's girls
It's everything you want
And you try to have
Your best game
And I can imagine
Playing for the Knicks
Like
Y'all get everybody
Best game
Yeah
Yeah
What's the best performance
You've seen
Good question bro
Great question
Hmm
The garden Yeah Hmm What's the best performance you've seen? Good question, bro. Great question.
At the Garden?
Yeah.
There's been so many.
Especially that fourth quarter.
It get crazy.
That's a tough question.
There's so many guys.
You've seen Steph go crazy?
I seen Steph break the record on our court.
Okay.
Break the all-time record. And what's crazy is he was supposed to break that record in Indianapolis,
but he didn't play that game.
And he purposely broke that in the garden.
Man, listen, I seen that man coming in, hit that one shot,
Man, listen, I seen that man coming in.
Hit that one shot.
And just, like, the garden, one thing about the garden is, like, it's different. Like, they show you love if you real, if you nice.
Like, some cities, they don't care.
But the garden, they're going to show you your love.
They gave them his grace.
That was one person.
Who else? You seen Brown go crazy. Atlanta. that was one person who who else
you seen
Brown go crazy
Atlanta
Trey Young
Trey Young came
gave us the business
oh yeah
they made me fall
so I was like
he made you fall
yeah
I had to give him
his props
like yo
you trying to cross over
Tibbs was like
yo
we sending a double team to help Tarj like, yo, we sending a double team
to help Tarj.
I said,
no,
don't send a double team.
Playing crazy.
That's Tarj.
Cook me.
Cook me.
Then I looked at him
like,
where's my double team?
You want to be a tough guy,
huh?
Yeah,
Tarj,
what made you
thought you could
guard Trey
and he hit you
with the okie dokie?
Hey man, that crowd that have you Thought you could guard Trey And hit you with that okie-dokie Hey, man, that crowd That crowd that have you feeling
Yeah, yeah, yeah
And you fool
I ain't gonna lie
Taj was one of the best defenders ever
Yeah, for sure
You remember when we played Denver that year
And Jokic was going
The last game to go to the playoffs The players were Yo, Jokic was going crazy. The last game to go to the playoffs.
The players were, yo.
Yo, Jokic was going crazy.
That nigga Tip said, Taj, you got him.
I said, damn, Taj.
It's me and you with a pick and roll killer.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
I'm like.
Shit.
No help.
No help.
I'm like.
Jamal Burns.
Yeah, I was like, killer.
No help. We help. I'm like, Jamal Burns. I was like, kill him. No help.
We got to switch.
I was like, you got to get back.
They thought it too.
I'm like, I can't.
I was like, Jimmy.
Come call Jamal.
I need to go out and get your hair.
I was like, hey, I'm my father.
I was like, bro, that's picking real crazy, bro.
Damn, that's funny. To see Taj take that challenge, bro. We get that win, bro. I was like, hey, I'm my father. Like, bro, that's picking real crazy, bro. Damn, that's funny.
To see Taj take that challenge, bro, we get that win, bro.
I was like, yeah, he.
Man, the thing that people don't understand,
we caught them while they was still on the verge of being like pups.
Yeah.
And that next year, man, I could, it was nothing I could do.
I'm just, I'm just standing here.
But players like that, like, I can honestly just say I'm just thankful to. But players like that,
I can honestly just say
I'm just thankful
that I honestly get a chance
to not seriously get to stop him
because that next year,
he was a whole different animal.
Guys like him,
I call guys like him alligators.
Tall,
big paws,
and they know how to move.
And then the first move they got,
that spin.
Him, DeMarcus Cousins, like certain guys, when they spin,
them shoulders hit you, you can't stop them.
You're out of the play.
That's why I wanted to ask you, who was the hell of a defender?
Who was the toughest, your toughest matchup?
Depends on whatever.
Oh, damn.
KG Biggs, the Dirt Biggs.
The beginning of your career.
Like when you started getting plans. Dirt, KG. I'm somebody bigs the beginning mix the beginning of your career the case you
start getting dirt plants on dirt kg that's back when it was more like false
physicality you had to be like at least 240 enough power for big Carlos bulls
of Josh Smith it was always but back then it was this unpredictable because
you had different lineups like God it was so many forwards like Josh Smith
dirt
KG
You got stat
It's ego West you still got on the arm
You still got pal you got a locum off the bench. Everybody was at least 240 enough
Yeah, then now this era is just like
You got a few bigs, but it's like the top three bigs i can
say like four bigs off the off top of my dome and be he pick and choose when he want to destroy you
he can just really just kill you instantly but he's just like a finessa till you get him mad
but if you play it psychology like he all midi joker he's just like i'm what i'm sunning you and i'm destroying you and i'm letting
you know like nah you know i'm my love he different it's crazy and i at one point i was like cat is
different yeah yeah i tell him in practice cat it's cat he's like he's different like
i don't speak how i don't care all the time for sure Cal all the time, for sure. He crazy. But people keep sliding.
I ain't going to never slide on DeMarcus Cousins.
No.
I'm trying to tell you.
That's his favorite player.
That's my favorite.
That's my man.
Favorite big pause.
He like, if bro wouldn't have got hurt and they wouldn't have played with him like that
in the NBA, I wish he would have signed that contract and no one else.
But he was a dog, bro.
That's 23 and 12.
Easy.
Alligator.
Because when I say alligator, I'm saying he leased over 250.
Yes.
He got moves, and you can't stop that spin.
When an alligator grabs you, he's doing that spin.
Yeah.
Then I'm taking you underneath.
It's over.
That's what he's doing.
It's right away.
I remember one time we played them in New Orleans.
They had Anthony Davis, and they had Cubs, right?
So before the game, we about to play.
Tibbs like, you got AD to Taj.
Taj, you got Cubs.
Man, fuck what you like.
So, he said, Cubs.
He was like, the first person to get one foul, switch.
Cubs get the ball, first play.
Cubs just grab him. Cat just grabbing.
Touch.
Switch, Tasha.
Yo, what the hell?
You ain't even try to go at him.
You ain't even try to go at him.
I said, yo, damn.
I'm like, damn, Cat, you ain't gonna try.
He was like, no, no, he had me.
I'm like, nah, he ain't gonna fuck with him.
You seen that meme of him hulsing up at DeMarcus Cousins? I said, yeah, him and cuz. Tasha had to go. Tasha had to go. Everybody. I'm like, no, no, he had me. I'm like, nah, he ain't gonna fuck with him. You seen that meme of him hulsing up at DeMarcus Cousins?
Yeah, him and Cousins.
Then Todd had to go to everybody.
I'm like, yeah.
Todd, switch the picker up.
There's something with them, those UK guys.
They be having some little in a beef.
I was like, damn.
Right when I switched on Cousins, I'm like, he go to AD.
AD's like, yo, give me the ball. Give me the ball. What the hell? I'm like he go to AD AD yo give me the ball
give me the ball
what the hell
I'm like yo
what's they problem
I swear
give me the ball
give me the ball
I'm like oh yeah
they got beef
that's crazy
and no we asked
about the
you know what I'm saying
the performances
on the guard
you got to see
a lot of good ones
this year
close and personal
JB went crazy
this year
how was that to see like the energy like back in New York like obviously they was good ones this year, close and personal. JB went crazy this year. How was that to see, like, the energy, like, back in New York?
Like, obviously, they was decent, but this year to have a season to have
and to see him kill the way he killed, like, that energy back in the city.
I mean, even though we went out on this year, we still beat him.
But it was just dope to see.
How was that being on the team?
I get to your team.
That's my boys over there, too.
Taj, fuck them.
Yeah, you got it. Because JJ, that's my brother over there, too. Oh, Todd's fucked him. Yeah, he got him.
Because J.J., that's my brother, man.
Yes, sir.
He can call me
any time,
any place I'm running.
I'm not packing no bag.
I'm just pulling up.
That's how deep it is.
But as far as that,
J.B.,
like, J.B. really came up
under us.
Like, when you look,
when you really dig
deep into the Tibbs thing,
like, guys really got real relationships. And, like, once you break that me, you really dig deep into the Tibbs thing. Like, God's really got real relationships.
And, like, once you break that bond, it's over.
He's going to make sure you're good.
But JB, like, he's just a good kid.
I don't want to say kid because I knew him his whole life,
but I'm going to say great God, man.
Like, you want to celebrate guys like that because he, oh,
like, I'm with them for that few months and
i'm just watching them like i'm used to him being uh the younger kid like being right now i'm around
him as an adult now i'm the older guy in the crew now i'm hanging out we are we are going where we
going like and i'm seeing how they move and i'm just like yo i want my son to be like him for real. That's hard.
That's how important.
That's a huge compliment right there.
Hell yeah.
And like –
He's special.
And to see him play and kill and to see his reporter he has,
everybody's like, you can't do nothing but support.
You can't do nothing but celebrate it.
Because he went crazy this year.
Y'all lucky JR wasn't there, bro.
Get well soon, King.
Because Julius Rundle was there, y'all was getting sweat, bro.
Man, that's's that's one thing
about that nick team like i was like when i got there like we we sucked so bad like people like
we was terrible bro like we we just didn't have it in order we had rj we had it we we just the city
was just on us as far as like just kicking us down and they don't understand the level of
like how we really guys built that up and julius was the main thing to get that joint going he
needed to get a lot more praise than what he got but everybody love you got to be a crazy mother
lover to go to the next because you got to be built different. That city is tough. That city is tough.
And you just got to be molded in it.
That's one thing about it.
It's tough to play.
But once you get through those wolves and eyes and really figure it out,
it's one of the best places to play, man.
I ain't going to hold you.
So I know, though.
I know we got to get up out of here, though.
What's the dirtiest place in New York City?
What's the dirtiest city?
Damn.
The dirtiest city? Don't do that. What you the dirtiest place in New York City? What's the dirtiest city? Damn. The dirtiest city?
Don't do that.
What you think?
Shit. You from there.
I want to hear you two say it.
I want to hear you two say it.
All right. Manhattan. Manhattan?
You think so? Manhattan?
I'm not going to let you do the Bronx like that.
The Bronx.
Some of the dirtiest places got the best food.
It do.
When I say the
Bronx, I say that
I'll say maybe
you could say maybe
the Bronx, but the
Bronx is the old
school real New York.
If you think about it
like Brooklyn has
changed, Manhattan
has changed.
That's where Peter
Grimes is from.
Legend.
I fuck with a
legend.
I fuck with
Washington Heights
oh man
we can keep the hoops
good food over there
man
good food
great food
vibes
good vibes
that's the pro-am
the summer hoop session
I'm stupid man
we can let's move forward.
Oh, man.
All right, we got to get up out of here before we go, man.
Ty, we were at your slide, man.
What you got going on next year?
I know you've been doing some contemplation,
but we're going to see you on the court next year, man.
God willing, we'll see, man.
Right now, I'm just at Top 100 Camp,
learning how to coach these kids.
Just letting God lead me.
And just trying to have as much fun as I can.
We can't take this for granted.
Every day I wake up, man, I'm just trying to just smile, man,
because I did not think I was going to be here.
So if I get the call, I'm calling y'all for sure.
For sure.
My dog, for sure.
Listen, man, we're going to have to do this again, man.
Had too much fun, man.
