Khaled.
Man, that's an intro.
That's an intro.
You like that one?
You like that one, Khaled?
Man, I'm like sitting here, I'm like, man, this feels good.
Man, first of all, I love you, brother.
I'm a big fan of you.
Thank you.
You know, you a legend, but I just love everything you do, man.
It's the energy you put out there.
And when I got invited on the show today, I was so excited.
You know, I had to get a haircut when you pulled up.
You did.
You know, I was getting right.
So I appreciate the love.
And thank you for coming to Miami.
Man, thank you for having me.
Man, when I reached out, man, when I DMed you and asked you, would you be willing, you're like, bro, are you serious?
That's right.
And I told people I was sitting down to do this interview with you.
They're like, what's he like?
I said, what you see on social media.
Positively, I'm talking about bless up, brother. Hey, congrats. I appreciate everything that you've done. So thank
you for allowing me and my team to come down and do this interview. Anytime, anytime. And I'm really
excited about this. I told my queen I was doing this and everybody's just a big fan of you, man.
You're for the people, man. We love you. Well, thank you for that. I don't know if you drink
or anything, but I appreciate you. This is. Okay to you and all your success and many more years of success. Appreciate you. What's up, brother?
Let's get it started
Started a little cappuccino. What's the name of this drink? This is Laporte a by shade. This is my own cognac
It tastes great with cappuccino
So you're going to be up
all day. That might be the thing. That's what I'm trying to tell you. You hear that cup of cappuccino
and cognac. That's right. That's right. Let's start with the golf tournament first. Yes.
What made you decide, started your foundation? What does this foundation represent?
It represents the young world, the kids, the community, but also bringing awareness to golf, more diversity.
But the foundation, the heart of it is to help the kids, give them scholarships, get involved in everything in the community.
I have a team that we work seven days a week, nonstop.
Every day we have to do something to uplift the kids and give back to the kids. You got to understand, I come from, you know, being on the radio, community radio, 99 Jams in Miami.
So I've been part of the Miami community from day one.
I started with Luke on the radio station, 99 Jams, and just all the beautiful things that we do in Miami.
In Miami, one thing we do, we're community driven.
We hometown, we support each other.
Yes, we do.
So when, you know, more blessings came in my life, I made it a priority.
And my wife as well made it a priority to give back to the kids.
And it's not just the education.
We're doing STEM programs.
We're also touching the people.
We're going in the community.
And we're also collaborating with other charities to uplift the community.
Right.
And this right here to collaborate with Michael Jordan.
Wow.
Yeah, that's big. You know how much community work he does. Yes. And this right here to collaborate with Michael Jordan. Wow. Yeah, that's big.
You know how much community work he does.
Yes.
And to do this golf classic.
What I love about the golf classic is it brought us all together.
Yes.
Unity to do things for the young world.
Right.
Every single day.
That's the priority.
The kids.
What made you decide to take up golf?
Okay.
So I used to play golf.
Well, I didn't play.
I used to mess around. My friend used to live on a golf course. Okay. And we used to go golf well i didn't play i used to um mess around my friend used to
live on a golf course okay um and we used to go to his house before we went to school and we just
messed around i had a natural swing that was in middle school right um but then um about pandemic
time my people and my friends and my neighbors like yours go golfing and i went the other day
two years ago and i i swung the drive and I had that natural swing in me.
Right.
And, you know, we the best.
Yes.
So everything we do, we the best at it.
Yes.
You know, that's what God bless us with.
You know what I'm saying? So, of course, I caught the bug.
And not even just that, it helps me mentally.
Right.
Spiritually.
Brings me more joy.
It cleanses my vision.
Meaning it has no distortion.
There's a lot going on in the world great so when
you're on the golf course you just feel at peace and that zen but at the same time it's one of the
hardest sports in the world so you're out there fighting yourself like michael jordan i heard him
on an interview saying it's like fighting yourself on the golf course to get better right so every
day i'm getting better and better what i love most about it is it's like life it's not easy
but it's beautiful.
Did you approach the game of golf like you did everything in your life?
Since I'm going all in, I'm going to get the most knowledge that I possibly can.
Surround myself with people that can teach me this game.
Help me understand this game so I can be good at this game like I am at all things in my life.
So, you know, one thing about coward is if I love something, I don't know how to do it halfway.
OK, so I want to go pro. You know what I'm saying?
No, I want to go pro. I want to go pro.
And that's just basically saying the heights of the dedication, the ambition and the passion that I put into golf.
Just same way I put it into my music career i love golf that much where i play seven
days a week some people yoga some people exercise some people run some people jog i play golf that's
your saying that's your thing right and the thing is that god put me on that golf course because
you know i'm starting to i'm i'm happy i look beautiful bless me. But now I'm starting to carve my greatness. Oh, you're shaping that back up, Calum.
I'm shaping it up. So two months ago, I was 287.
Okay.
Today, I'm 268.
Wow.
And that's just from walking the course, swinging, swinging. But that's like every day. And golf
helps me skip a few meals because I'm so into the game. So I might skip breakfast once in a while.
Right.
So I'm feeling healthy. But at the same time, you know that
addiction? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Absolutely.
What's that word? Endorphins?
Endorphins. Endorphins.
I get all that.
Yes. But then I come home
and then when you eat that cheeseburger,
it tastes different.
Because you're on the golf course all day.
Especially when that toast is a little crispy
and then that fresh lettuce and you bite it, it just tastes different.
Right.
And then when I go in the studio, I just, after I get out of the shower, I go in the studio, I put some Jordan shorts on and a white tee and some flip flops.
And I just go in there, and I just feel so refreshed and relaxed and so focused.
And then being around my family, my kids love it, and my wife is happy.
And, you know,
it's just a blessing, man.
Like golf really
blessed me.
You know what I'm saying?
Where are you more at peace now?
On the golf course
or the studio?
Man, that's like,
you know what I'm saying?
You're trying to like...
You got to choose one of the kids.
It's like,
which kid do you like?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean, to be honest with you, I would say both.
And that's just the honest truth.
The golf course, I'll tell you a story.
Like, one day, I got done playing golf.
And I was in my living room.
And I'm chilling.
And I got a call.
And like, obviously, that person wasn't on the same energy.
Right, OK.
I'm in a great place.
I'm chilling.
Right, right, right.
I'm vibing. And the blue skies. I'm like, man. And it wasn't on the same energy right okay i'm in a great place right right right i'm vibing like
you know and the blue skies i'm like man like and it wasn't nothing crazy but i was like let me do
do me a favor i'm gonna call you right back i actually ran to the golf course just to sit in
the the thing because that's where i feel like yo i'm telling all my people around me if you not
coming with this protect your blessing and this this vibe to go to the next level um that's where
i'm at my life in my life right now it's going to the next level and that and by doing that you
have to protect your blessings right right and i'm protecting my happiness because i have to be
happy because i have beautiful boys and i got a beautiful queen and my job is to make sure they're
happy right so i gotta feel good to make them happy somebody comes around Callie with negativity oh no I tell
them out the gate and it ain't even being rude I especially even somebody I love and sometimes
they don't even realize it right I put them inside your bra I'm in a different place okay I golf
every morning right call me if you want to go right you know call me if you want to take things
to the next level call Call me with some great.
I don't I'm I'm trying to explain to everybody I'm in peace.
You know, there's a point in your life.
Yes.
And you might get what I'm saying.
But in my life, I'm at a place where I'm at peace.
You know, I represent love.
But at the same time, I'm just like really at peace you know and I want
to protect that and I want and I it's because you know with joy people think that um you know
for me joy is showing gratitude to God okay and when you show gratitude to God you know and you
be grateful it it turns into joy with your activities and the
things that you put your mind to and do, you know, the way you talk, the way you speak, the way you
move, the way you eat, everything got to change if you want to level up and I'm protecting these
blessings as far as energy, you know, this world is a lot going on. It's just a lot going on. And I got to protect my energy because, you know, I guess golf also helps, for me, mental health.
Not saying that I have some mental health problems.
No, but I can tell you right now, I'm more.
But it keeps you in a great place.
Right.
And that's a beautiful feeling.
When you have that feeling, you want to continue that feeling, right?
You're the king of anthems.
Another one.
Bless up.
Keep going.
We the best.
God did.
God did.
Of all the anthems that you started and created and you hear everybody sing them, what's your
favorite anthem?
Ah, man.
My favorite one, I can't give you that favorite one because there's so many yeah um but you know
you have records like all i do is win man they play they still play that's never going away
winner's national anthem yes we can't i have to say that yeah you know um then you got records
like wild thoughts and then you got records like me and drake ross and little wayne i'm on one yes
you know then you got records where, like, every chance I get.
Yes.
You know, with me, Lil Baby and Lil Durk.
It's so many.
You know, I don't know if you know,
I have 13 albums in the can.
Like, I put out 13 albums.
Right.
I'm working on my 14th album.
Okay.
And I'm proud of myself.
And the reason why I'm saying that,
because I want the young world to hear this,
because in the game that I'm in.
Yes.
Some people can't make it past their first song or the
first album or make it past their sophomore album. I'm working on my 14th album. And everybody wants
to work with you, Khaled. I mean, and I want to work with them. You know what I'm saying? And
the blessing is that people know when you walk in a room with me, you know I'm a hard worker.
The energy got to be right in the studio.
That's the only way I would work.
And I work with, like, how can I say, like, my records, I tell artists all the time,
when you make a Cala record, not only do I want it to be an anthem, you know,
if you listen to the radio, you go to the club, or you listen to some music on your phone,
and you'll hear music, and you're like this.
I want my record to be like this. It stands out. And if you listen to my anthems,
it has that Khaled, it's a Khaled thing. And you all can get it from Khaled. You know what I'm
saying? I'm speaking in third party, but I have to do that because I'm representing myself right
now. But at the same time, it's a blessing to be able to work with all my favorite artists
and all the new artists too, coming up in the game and meeting them and showing each other respect it's
just a blessing because i love making music and when you love what you do you go all out well i
can't say this about you is that your records will stay in this chest of time because like you said
all i do is win god did the one you, God did. The one you did with Kanye.
When you go into the studio, are you thinking this has to be Khaled on it?
Yes.
It's got to be Khaled approved.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, when I go in the studio, what I do is I start, we make the music first.
Okay.
The production.
If it's me or me and my team or if it's me and collaborating with other great producers.
if it's me or me and my team,
or if it's me and collaborating with other great producers. Okay.
I just focus on the sonics,
the sound of the way I want my album to sound
or the records to sound musically.
And then I start getting into some concept and ideas
before I call an artist to do any vocals.
Because I like, the way I work,
and you could ask artists,
when they walk in the studio and I play a record,
that's it.
That's the one. Okay. Like, it ain't nothing to talk about. Right a record, that's it. That's the one.
Okay.
Like, it ain't nothing to talk about.
Right, okay.
That's how I make sure of that.
Right.
Like, I'm not here to experiment.
Right.
I'm not here to, like, maybe.
No.
If I call you, that's the one.
Yeah.
And I'm blessed with the audience.

Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports.
It's hard to feel that energy that I'm presenting to them, but at the same time,
know that's the one.
Right.
You know what I'm saying?
So it's a blessing, man, because if you think about it like God did,
we turned the Grammys into the Holy Grail.
Yes.
We closed out the Grammys.
My brother Jay-Z did like an eight minute verse on
there with little wayne rick ross uh friday and john legend when i made that record not only was
it sent from god you're saying to get hold to do that was such a blessing for him to do the song
and to perform it he doesn't even do that for himself. No. I mean, you know this.
I'm not making this up.
Like, guys, like, I pinch myself when I pray,
and I thank, I text Jay-Z out of nowhere
and just say thank you 100 times a month.
Just because I know this is, like,
like, when we was backstage,
before we got on stage,
and we in the suits, and I'm like,
I'm looking around like, yo.
You know what I'm saying? You see what's going on. So those blessings, I know my fans appreciate it.
And that's what keeps me going. Right. My fans expect me to perform at the highest level and expect me to deliver. Right. Once I've delivered so many times, so consistently throughout the
year, my fans like right now, summertime summertime, haven't dropped a record yet.
And they know I'm.
You do.
I am summer.
You do.
No, I'm saying it could be winter,
and I could turn it to summer.
Right.
That's what Calvin does.
That's what.
So I'm about to drop some new music soon.
But my fans, I hear them out there, and I see them.
They tell me.
They're screaming, let's go golfing.
They're also screaming, Calvin, where's the anthem?
Because I know you coming.
I'm coming. You know what I'm saying? My fans the anthem? Because I know you coming. I'm coming.
You know what I'm saying?
My fans is what keep me going.
Right.
You know what I'm saying?
As far as the music.
When you did God Did.
Yes.
Did everybody come up with their own lyrics?
Did Wayne do his own thing?
Absolutely.
Did Cole do his own thing?
You just set the beat.
Yeah.
So God Did was my man Friday sent me just the chords.
Okay.
And him singing God Did.
Obviously, I already put in the universe, you know, if you follow me on social media,
they don't believe in us.
God Did?
Yes, yes.
So he came and sent me a thing with chords, and he was singing the hook of God Did.
Okay.
So I'm like, oh, man, this is dope. So originally, I was going to keep it as did okay so i'm like oh man this this is dope so i
originally i was going to keep it as the interlude just like that with nothing then i started listening
to what i was like nah let's put let's make this into a song so i started we put me street runner
we put drums on there and you know i you know music and just turning into like a with no vocals
on it besides friday just turning into like a, with no vocals on it besides Friday, just turning
into like a masterpiece, a musical masterpiece.
So now it's just the beat.
Okay.
And now we got drums on it.
Right.
Now we got instruments on it with Friday's chords and with him singing on it.
So I sent it to Ross.
Uh-oh.
Yeah, because you know, Ross is my 305 brother.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's my brother.
You know, we go way back.
You know what I'm saying?
I sent it to Ross and Ross know if I send him something brother you know we go way back you know i'm saying i sent it to
ross and ross know if i send him something you know call it up to something yeah but also ross
was sent it back that same day or that next morning like that my whole career you know ross
has been in every single album of mine yes same with wayne yes so I sent it to Ross. I was in the Bahamas.
He sent the verse back.
And when he said, something put me with the sharks.
God did.
When he got into that mode, you know, I'm losing my mind.
No, I'm losing my mind.
Right.
Like, I'm losing my mind.
I'm running around.
I'm just blowing speakers.
So I hit Wayne. I hit Mac Mane. And man mac man i need wayne you know wayne is family to me and um
he's like sent it through so i sent it to him wayne sent it back the next morning i get wayne's
first i'm like oh my god so you know you got you'm like, I'm like I got something. Yeah, the man talking
he talking
he so many bars on that.
I'm like, wow, right? I'm
losing my mind. Him Wayne him
Ross. I'm so excited. So now
I said, hold up.
You can keep
it like this and you can win
big or
you could do what you do, Coward. So I took a jet. I flew to
New York. I found out Ho was in New York. You know, Ho's my brother's family. I told him I need
to see him. Told him I just need five minutes of your time. The blessing was I had a few hours of
his time, but I asked for five. He gave me a few hours. I come see him.
I said, I would love to play you my album. And I would love for you to pick my album cover.
I had like three options of album covers and I wanted him to pick it. I was happy with all three
of them. And I was like, I want to play you my album. So the first song I played was Drake,
no secret. I set it off like that.
He's like, ooh, that's crazy.
And then it went into God did.
Uh-oh.
So now.
Uh-oh, uh-oh.
So while God did his playing, I'm looking at him.
I ain't asking him to get on it yet, but I'm looking at him.
OK.
And I was like, you know, I'm trying to tell him.
And he's listening to it. So now you're hearing. And then the beat coming.'m looking at him. And I was like, you know, I'm trying to tell him, like, and he's listening to it.
So now you're hearing, and then the beat coming and Ross coming and he like, then Wayne coming, he like that.
And then I purposely left an open verse for just the beat.
So now the beat is playing and I see him doing this.
Look.
And then I started hearing him like, like rapping.
like rapping.
So boom, when we turned the record off,
he already had like four or five bars already
out the head saying, already spitting
some of the rhyme.
So I was like, yo, I really need you.
You know what I'm saying? So I was being cool.
So I continued to play the album.
And he's like, oh, this is nice. He was just loving the album.
Loving the album. Then we went back
to God then.
He kept listening to that so
now we poppin champagne oh yeah now we pop in champagne I'm standing in the
room with a cigar he lighting up cigar he doing this like you know he confirmed
none yet okay so boom make a long story short on me
leaving the room.
He's like, yo, send me
God did. Send
it to me. I know what that means.
Send it to him.
I'm looking at Lenny S.
I got to be cool now.
I got to show my excitement.
So we send it to him.
And I'll never forget.
He texts me and goes, yo, can I have a book studio?
I think it was like book studio at 6 o'clock or 7 o'clock or something like that.
I only got like an hour because I got to catch a helicopter to the Hamptons.
So I'm thinking like book the studio.
He going to do it, but he going to get to it. Like, you know, it might take it, you know, I don't know, but I'm
going to do it. I'm excited. He said book studio. That means something about to happen. So we book
studio. He FaceTimes me. Now remember he said he got an hour and he got to catch the helicopter
to go to the Hamptons. You know, I don't know how that works over there. It's a whole thing. Right.
And I guess it cuts off and it's, I don't know, right? So he FaceTimes me and the song is playing in the background. He's rhyming. So I'm listening
to him. He's smiling and I'm listening to it and I'm hearing him spit. I'm like, oh my God.
But the problem is after a minute, it ended up being two minutes and it'll be in three minutes
and it'll be in four minutes and it'll be being like five minutes. I'm like looking at him.
He's like, and I'm like, what?
So forget me trying to hear the song.
I'm trying to figure out what's going on.
I just keep hearing his voice for that long.
Like I'm not expecting that.
So he says, I got to go catch the helicopter.
He's like, I did it for you.
So Guru sends me the song.
So now he sends it.
I run the studio.
Now I'm putting a blend to it. I run the studio now.
I'm putting a blend to it.
And I'm losing my mind because there's so many quotables, so many bars.
But not even just that.
I felt like he told, because I'm a real Jay-Z fan. I felt like he put his whole career of flows and life in one verse.
Right.
You know, like the book of Hove.
Like, you know, Hove did. Because. You know, like the, the book of whole, like, you know,
because you know,
God did.
And then when we was,
when we was,
when I played a record,
we was,
I was like,
yo,
tell me what whole did.
And I,
and he did,
you know,
so it was the biggest blessing in the world to get the song done.
That was one thing.
And it was,
it,
the culture went nuts.
Right.
But to be able to get the opportunity to perform it at the grammys yeah man they shut it down right but the thing is for him
to say yes was bigger for me than just the performance right right because i've never
seen him really do that for himself he did that maybe a long time ago right you know i'm saying and it's
like you know that thing you don't want to abuse the love yeah right right you know i'm saying like
even though i know it's love but it's like some things is so great right he felt what i felt we
had to do that for hip-hop right we had to do that it-year anniversary, but not even just that. We got to do that for hip hop. It's bigger than us.
And we did that.
Right.
So he told you he had a minute.
He ended up giving you eight minutes.
Did you like, I got to put all this.
I can't cut any of this.
I got to put all this on here.
Let me tell you, Wayne and Ross and Ho, those are my brothers for real.
Not my rap friends. No, these are my brothers for real. Yes.
My rap friends.
Yeah.
No, these are my brothers.
Right.
Family.
I've known them so long, and we really have real stories together, real moments together,
and those are my brothers.
They never told me no.
Right.
It's weird.

Presented by Capital One,
founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports.
And I would never tell them no.
Right.
But I've worked with artists,
they might want to hear,
especially when you got a hove on there.
Yeah, yeah.
They might want to go fix.
Fix that, it's got to hit on it.
But they know if it's Khaled, Khaled.
You know, I don't like calling people saying my records to get on as a feature.
You know, I had to tell somebody the other day because I'm working on my new album.
And I said, nah, my records ain't features.
You get on a feature.
My records are moments.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, these are anthems.
They're going to talk about this forever.
Our records, when we work together, they play forever.
They're timeless.
They're moments. When we come forever. Our records, when we work together, they play forever. The time was their moments.
When we come together, that's a moment.
So when they found out that Hov was on it is when they had to clear the record,
meaning through their lawyers or their management.
Right.
So I'm sure like, yo, Cadwell got Hov on there.
You know what I'm saying?
So I'm expecting like, yo, I want to add some more stuff to it.
Nah.
And everybody was just excited about it and the first time they heard it is when the world heard it see i work different shannon
i work different and some of the new artists that's working with me now they're learning how
i work because some of them don't understand that because i like to keep even the person that's working with me now, they're learning how I work because some of them don't understand that because I like to keep
even the person that's on my record
excited. Right. I don't
like people taking my record
after we record, they actually take it
home. Right.
If you do, it's because
of the circumstances, I had to work in your
studio or something. Right. But when you work with me, I don't
like to let nobody have a copy of my record.
Right. But I don't want it to leak.
Cut down leaks. And I want
you to stay excited. Because if you
listen to it every day, I might not come out for another
six months. I don't know. I work
off of God. God tell me when to come.
So I do that for
our protection and
to keep us excited so when the
record do come out, you're excited
as much as the fan is excited.
Right.
With your own work.
You know, I'm different.
Yo, Chen, there's people and there's Coward.
Yeah, okay.
Is that what's up?
Like, you know how you got the jacket?
Yeah, yeah.
You got a jacket.
I got a jacket in the music world.
Right, right.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, this album I'm working on, I'm trying to,
the message that I'm going to put out there,
and it's like you're getting, like, really exclusive because I haven't told nobody I was working on a I'm trying to, the message that I'm going to put out there, and it's like, you're getting like really
exclusive because I haven't told nobody I was working on a new album
yet, but I am working on a new album.
Wow. Some of the message I'm going to
put out there is that we have to learn to appreciate
each other. We have to appreciate
each other as brothers and sisters.
And because
if it's gone, don't appreciate
it then. Right, it's too late. Appreciate it when
you got it.
You know what I'm saying?
Because what we giving these people is not regular.
Right.
What you doing is not regular.
It's not.
Right.
It's not.
Like, there's a lot of people do what you doing right now.
They ain't doing what you doing.
They ain't coming with the yellow linen and, you know, the glasses like that with the talk.
You know what I'm saying?
With the pearly whites.
They ain't doing it.
I'm just telling you, we different.
Right.
And I just want people not to take nothing for granted because I don't.
You know what I'm saying?
I don't take life for granted.
I pray to God every day.
I don't take my friends for granted.
I don't take the music I've made for granted.
I act like I just started today because I know it's special.
You know what I'm saying?
I know when I'm doing something special and I know when I see something special
and I know when I hear something special.
So I'm going to make sure that I love it and I
treat it and I show my appreciation.
And this ain't no bullshit. Excuse my language.
This is real life. This is who I am.
And when I make this music,
I go all out for the fans.
Not just the fans that go out
for the artists that's on
my records. Right.
So that's why I keep working so consistently with the biggest artists in the world, because they know how passionate and how much I love this.
You know what I'm saying?
When I work with a Jay-Z or a Drake or a Lil Wayne or a Ross or a Lil Baby or a Future, I go all out.
Not just making it.
I go all out to make sure the world can hear it.
I go out there and campaign for us. I do everything. I'm not these other guys. I go all out to make sure the world can hear it. I go out there and
campaign for us. I do everything. I'm not these other guys. I'm not. I'm sorry. Let me ask you
this. We love it. We love the energy, but let me ask you this. I heard the story that Michael
Jackson, what drove him to what he did is that he kept trying to make Thriller. Thriller was once
in a generation. It was once in a historical event.
A lot of times historical events only happen once.
That's what make them historical.
So how does DJ Khaled says,
okay, if I did 15 million, whatever.
If I don't do 15 million on this one,
it ain't as good.
If it doesn't do diamond,
if it doesn't do this,
if it doesn't do that,
how do you guard against that Khaled?
Well, you know, I never worry about the numbers. If it doesn't do diamond, if it doesn't do this, if it doesn't do that, how do you guard against that, Khaled?
Well, you know, I never worry about the numbers.
What I care about is the impact.
Oh, okay.
You know, say some records, this is what's so beautiful about music.
Some records, the impact is so big that you get all the blessings in abundance from the numbers, from the impact. And then some records is just impacted in a different way where it comes from right here and then it just starts doing this.
It just goes everywhere and then it just becomes massive. I care about the impact of it. That's
what I do when I make music. I tell other guys with this artist and I said, yo, I don't make records that go pop.
You know what I'm saying?
My records, they just go pop because they the biggest.
Like when you start trying to make a pop record, that means it's not like, it's like you're,
you're making, we create over here.
I'm going to be me and I'm going to make sure I'll be true to myself and true to my music.
And you love it so much that it explodes where everybody love it. Even if you don't listen to my music and you love it so much that it explodes where everybody
love it even if you don't listen to hip-hop right you love it that's the type of records i try
and put my energy to make you know i'm saying and that's why they become anthems you know saying
even if you wasn't listening to to our music you heard it right you know saying like so that's the
i think i think when you start worrying about going diamond is when you don't go diamond.
Okay.
I think you go in there and you put your best effort and you work so hard and you pray that it connects with the people.
And then there's no limits after that.
Right.
But you have to work hard as an artist, too.
You can't just think that you're that cool.
Nah, I mean, I don't do that.
I work.
I work.
I work.
As I sit here and listen to you, you don't say, well, I got Jay-Z.
I mean, I got Hov.
I got Babe.
I got Lil' One.
I got Weezy.
I got Ross.
I got Drake.
I'm always going to do this.
No.
You go in like, hey, I might have the best players, but we're going to put this thing.
We're going to put this time in.
I got to put the time in.
And another thing, too, is it's not about getting the best players.
It's about making the best
record. The great record.
A lot of people might get
a feature and get... I know
a lot of records where they got some of the biggest artists. It doesn't
mean it's the hit. It doesn't mean it's
gold. No. It's about making the great record.
You know what I'm saying? Every time I'm in the studio
with the greats,
listen,
I'm just... Listen, I'm good at what I do.
You know what I'm saying?
And even the greatest artists, I try my hardest to push more greatness out of them the same
way they would do it for me.
Right.
Because when we're in the studio, I'm pushing so much greatness out of them and they're
doing the same thing to me.
You know what I'm saying? So greatness out of them and they doing the same thing to me You know saying so that's the blessing and my goal is to continue to work
With Rihanna Beyonce
Jay-z Drake little Wayne little baby future
Charlotte all the people ever work with the goals that continue to work with right because if you continue to work when that means you did
A great job the last time you work with them. Yes, yes, yes.
You know what I'm saying?
Right.
So, obviously, we have a connection, and the fans love it.
Have you ever had to tell someone they needed to do a verse over?
Or you let it rock?
Hold on now.
Kyler, Kyler, you're dealing with the best of the best now.
You know the bigger the guy, the bigger the ego.
Well, I'm not going to name names, but I've been in situations where you asked him to do it over.
No, I asked him not to take when it's more than a subliminal and it's not. And I'm a guy that
puts people together that can usually people that usually don't work with together that usually can
get them to work together because they know it's coming from me.
It's almost a way of saying it's peace.
Right.
And it's love.
Right.
So I make sure, I try my hardest,
because it's still hip hop,
and you still got to,
just like as a football player,
you still got to, you know,
and still talk that trash.
Right.
That's just part of the game.
Right.
And you got to respect that.
But at the same time,
I try to make sure it doesn't go to another dimension.
Right.
Because of who I am and what I'm about.
You know what I'm saying?
So I love everybody.
So I've been behind the scenes.
I can tell you this.
You know, if I ever put a documentary out, there'll be a lot of great stories of Khaled
putting brothers and sisters back together that was never talking to
each other had big problems and I was one of the guys that behind the scenes I don't brag about it
I don't you know saying if there's ever a doc and they want to talk about it they can right but I've
been somebody always that so as far as somebody changed their verse I usually get the best out of them um we have maybe tweaked some things because
the song got greater in time so i've been i've been blessed to get the best when you let's just
say for the sake of argument do you ever say tell who you have on or you just go ask somebody you
do you take wheezy i got drake i got ross i got hove on this one or do you ever say or you's like
hey i'm asking you to be on it yeah, I'm asking you to be on it.
Yeah.
Usually I'm asking you to be on it.
And sometimes one of the artists might hear two or three people on it already because
it's at that stage.
Right.
Okay.
But sometimes you got to understand I have to come to you and I have this vision and
I have, and you might be the first person to get on it first, but I'm playing you a
hit.
You're excited. So I got to finish the vision. to get on it first. But I'm playing you a hit. You're excited.
So I got to finish the vision.
They find out usually later.
Right.
Like when the video treatment comes.
Right.
Or I might bump into them like, yo, by the way, song done.
Right.
I got blah, blah, blah.
And we all excited.
Right.
They know it's going to be an event.
Right.
But sometimes it depends on the situation.
But see, normally they know you got some heavyweights on there.
So they got to come with their best.
Oh, no.
They got to do that.
Got to be their best and biggest and brightest. I promise
you, that's one thing they know.
They know that. We got to
get it in. We got to get it in.
And that's the blessing. It's like
my album's like the all-star
game. You know what I'm saying?
You know what I'm saying? Yes.
Matter of fact, Ho said that, and he said,
your Cavs albums, it's not easy.
You know what I'm saying? It's like the all-stars. Right. And then, you know what Ho said that, and he said, yo, Calvary's albums, it's not easy. You know what I'm saying? It's like the All-Stars.
Right.
And then, you know what Ho said?
He said it on his own, and it touched my heart because I don't be saying, but he said it's
not easy because you deal with a lot of personalities.
Yes.
And I don't be saying that.
People don't realize that's hard.
It is.
Because a lot of times, the All-Star games, we say the All-Star games don't live up to
expectations.
We look at the basketball All-Star. We look at baseball and football all-star games.
And even though that's the biggest and brightest stars that we have to offer.
Right. You're like, it leaves something to be, a lot to be desired.
It's not easy. So and the part that's not easy is the beautiful thing is that when people work in the studio with me, we leave all our egos out of the studio.
And I'm not saying we got wrong egos.
But when you're the best, you're the best.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And we work with the best.
And I'm trying to be it.
And every chance I get, I'm trying to show you I'm the best,
Callie.
Like, I be in the studio sometimes with artists,
and they're playing this stuff, and I love it.
Right.
No, I'm, like, literally a fan, and I love it.
I'm like this.
Yeah.
And I'm like, when is it my turn to play something?
I do it all the time. And I sit there for hours and let you know and I love it right
But when is it my turn to play something? I got oh, yeah
And that's the thing about look what we talking about it's so much behind the scenes that people don't know right
That's the love of it. You know, it's creating this music and
The things that we put into it
as far as presentation is key.
You know, if I know if I'm working with an artist,
I feel like presentation is so important
because, you know, when they first hear it
and know the vision,
that's the, if they locked in from that moment,
you good.
Right.
You know what I'm saying?
Right.
