Starting point is 00:04:43 then there's just so much below the water that I didn't know about. They teach us not to blindly trust people. Like, you know, celebrities are not, they shouldn't be your heroes and such. No. But I blindly trust you. Thank you. You should blindly trust me. I'm excited about this.
Starting point is 00:04:56 I have not steered you wrong 180 for previous episodes. Right. Been a minute. So let's do this. It's Oliver McCall. No. Remember Oliver McCall? No.
Starting point is 00:05:04 Oliver William McCall is his full name. Cowboys? Expos? He's do this. It's Oliver McCall. No. Remember Oliver McCall? No. Oliver William McCall is his full name. Cowboys? Expos? He's a boxer. Oh? Yes. There's a specific thing that happened that you will most certainly remember about him. That's what I mean.
Starting point is 00:05:16 He's one of those guys that you might not know his name, but everybody knows. His face is kind of, if it's not a meme, I don't know how it's not a meme, because it's amazing. It's a photograph that you've never seen in that context before. It's super weird. We'll get to it. All right. Oliver McCall, the Atomic Bull is his nickname.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Jesus. Yeah. That's weird. That's something. That sounds aggressive. It's not just a bull. It's an irradiated bull. You're mixing a move with, I mean, anything atomic is frightening, except for a bull.
Starting point is 00:05:48 It's going to be, yeah, well, a bull is frightening anyway, and then you add the fact that it's atomic to it, it's going to be very extra aggressive, I would think. What does it do if it's atomic? It charges extra fast, and then when it hits you, you're irradiated, I assume. That's all I can imagine. When he punches you, you glow. Yeah. I guess.
Starting point is 00:06:08 A green glow. That's how they tell if he scored well or not. Quickly, it was just the anniversary of the Berbick-Tyson fight. Yeah. And watching that fight on Twitter, because somebody tweeted it at us. Yeah. I was sad. I was genuinely sad watching him get knocked out by tyson and then when he stood
Starting point is 00:06:26 up and like got knocked out again by a ghost it was yeah it was rough and then knowing what happened to him if you haven't heard that go back and listen he was in the middle of it all right then the ending is horrible it's it's bad and when i saw it i was like oh that's a terrible fight i was like how did that end for him and i was like oh my oh my gosh, that way. That's not good at all. Burbick, no. Burbick. I completely forgot that that was the way it went. The end of his story was rough.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Would you Wikipedia him? I did. Oh my. Wikipedia. I was like, oh yeah, that tragic shit. Oh shit, that's right. That was terrible. We did that.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Well, this guy's story, you feel bad for him, and he's an idiot at the same time. There's a lot of emotions going on here. And at some point, you don't of emotions going on here and at some point you don't feel bad for him because he's just at some point you're like just no at some point he brings it upon himself enough stop already so he's born way back april 21st 1965 he's born uh which is hilarious when you find out what he's doing today, you will laugh. Remember that birth date throughout this episode. 1965, okay? He's born in Chicago, grows up on the south side of Chicago.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Oh, no. Yeah, he has a rough upbringing, as you might imagine. That is a tough neighborhood. It's tough times here. Even today. Yeah, we're talking grows up 70s, south side of Chicago. It's historically a shit place. Tough going back then.
Starting point is 00:07:44 It somehow has not been gentrified it might be the only neighborhood in america things don't necessarily yeah they don't need to be gentrified but it hasn't been hasn't been upgraded there's been not much good to come out of yeah it's been tough it's a tough place to live let's just put it that way it's a tough place to grow up um he starts using drugs at about 13. Oh yeah. So that, that tells you where we're going here in this episode right away. When, you know, kids using hard drugs at 13, you got, there's a problem. Yeah. There's something going on in the family.
Starting point is 00:08:13 That's, that's off there. Uh, in the summer of 1979, uh, apparently now there's two different stories to this. Now, one is a story of like, if you look on Wikipedia, it'll say that he went, the parents are confused. But here's the story anyway. He gets on a Greyhound bus, and he's living with his father at the time. Has a falling out with his father, and gets on a Greyhound bus and goes to Racine to live with his mother. Wisconsin. Yeah. out with his father and gets on a greyhound bus and goes to racine to live with his mother wisconsin yeah yeah so he goes there to live with his mother who's who was in in racine thank you league of their own yes i know that's exactly yes thank you laurie petty yes
Starting point is 00:08:55 appreciate it yes that's it right there chubby catcher thank you kit yeah thank you kit kelly that's it it's kelly right there i think so no is that a boxer what am i doing no i don't know what you're doing i'm trying to think of the other one kit kelly i why do i know that and and what's gina davis's character gina davis she should be gina davis in every movie hi mom this is uh i got married this is my wife gina davis hi how you doing gina two e's i'd like to apply for this job gina davis just every scenario gina davis nice to meet you head of the pta the maitland's uh they're now the davises it works it's just gina davis just one word gina davis g. Gina Davis and her last name. Gina Davis Maitland.
Starting point is 00:09:46 That's it. Should be everything. So, yeah, he was during eighth grade here. He switched schools a lot. He transferred to a couple different schools. He's a good athlete, too. He's a good basketball player. Now, he's 6'2", when he's full grown, but in high school, he's a really good power forward.
Starting point is 00:10:06 So that tells you the kind of aggression that if you're 6'2", and you're playing power forward, even in high school, you got to have some form of kind of get up and go to you. Otherwise, people are just going to go over your head and take things from you. A little bit of some athleticism. Yeah, or you can weigh 230 pounds like he does and be a big beefy dude. And then it doesn't matter. And he's a big, muscular, he's an athlete. I mean, he's an athlete.
Starting point is 00:10:29 He's a specimen, this guy. He could have, you know, he probably could have maybe played college ball somewhere or something like that if he stuck with the basketball. But instead, he also played some football. And he said he played one game of football, as a matter of fact. Yeah, he played for Gerstad. I don't know if there's a school there. He said, quote, I played one football game for Gerstad and then quit because somebody stepped on my finger. He's dainty.
Starting point is 00:10:54 I'm about enough of that. You can punch me right in the face. Step on my finger. I'm out of here. Step on my finger. Hey, what the hell? That hurt. You have no idea how many punches to the face this man can take.
Starting point is 00:11:07 He's one of the most durable, strongest chinned boxers in the history of boxing, this guy. He got stepped on my finger. I gotta get out of here. I don't know. Cleats are a motherfucker, though. They are. But I saw my friend in high school. I went to one of his hockey games, and he got knocked down, and somebody skated over
Starting point is 00:11:24 his finger sweet fuck taking it i don't know 60 off basically it was you know it was off yeah so what he did was because he couldn't have a trail of blood coming out of his glove yeah he just duct taped or hockey taped like the stick tape up the finger to keep the blood in played the rest of the game and then went and got stitches later on wow Wow. That was how it worked. We stopped on the quote on the way home to get some stitches. That's how hockey works. That's the toughest man I've ever heard of.
Starting point is 00:11:52 That's how hockey works. And he wasn't even that tough of a guy. I mean, he was. He was a hockey player, but I'm sorry. I feel bad. He was a tough guy, but I mean, he wasn't like, oh, man, he's an animal. He was a real mild dude. In hockey, that's just what you do. Took it serious. a tough guy but i mean he wasn't like like oh man he's an animal he was a real mild dude to just on
Starting point is 00:12:05 hockey and hockey that's just what you do took it serious you're a pussy if you get skated over and you don't just tape it up and play more home yeah that's no that's not hockey so that's but yeah boxing punch him in the face but no uh so he ends up going to washington park high school in racine where he's a pretty good basketball player there playing forward. But in 1981, he ends up coming back to Chicago to live with his dad again. And here, this is when he finds boxing, when he comes back to Chicago. When he's about 16 years old, he finds boxing, and he figures it out right away, basically. And he basically said in the beginning he was like
Starting point is 00:12:45 oh this is better than a nine to five yeah he goes if i could do this i mean i gotta come and train but that's better than going punching in at some factory in racine or some shit this is is it though way for him it was i don't i'm not saying for me getting beat in the faces but that's a that's a for him if you can take a punch in the face, well, I guess, and deliver one back, I guess you're like, Hey, fuck it. I mean,
Starting point is 00:13:06 in a nine to five, you're getting your ass kicked in an entirely different way anyway. So what's the difference? You're just as broken down at the end of the day, especially if you're doing a physical labor job or you're working in like a, you know, a factory or a warehouse or something. Just as risky sometimes.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Oh, absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. Well, in the boxing, funny thing is in boxing, no one's ever had molten lava poured on their head and been liquefied.
Starting point is 00:13:29 That's a good point. No one's ever been crushed by a crane in the middle of a boxing match. A lot of bad things have happened in boxing, but I've never heard of that, ever. Where, well, on The Wire, season two, the guy gets his leg crushed, or he's on the loading dock. They're supposed to be taking it easy they're all union and relaxed and laid back and instead this guy's got his fucking leg crushed he's gotta have it amputated that's what i mean that's never happened to boxing that i know of men have died yeah i mean not in that way fewer there than on
Starting point is 00:13:58 the docks i'll bet yeah oh god absolutely plus in a much less horrific way they'll be like i'm not feeling so good then they go to the hospital and die. These guys are like, holy shit, Frank is now a stain on the ground. He's literally, we have to scrape Frank up like a pancake. We have to pick up a moving container. To give him to his widow. Right. So, you know how that goes.
Starting point is 00:14:21 So, yeah, he'll end up winning two chicago golden gloves titles everything else problem is he's also got a second career as a bit of a felon oh yeah he has already oh yeah yeah as a teenager he's got he's uh does three months in jail for a felony theft as a teenager basically by 83 he's got he's got a nice record of three four felonies wow uh yeah a lot of burglaries uh 83 he's convicted of theft from person in a robbery that's like he's stepping it up he straight robbed a motherfucker which is a completely different kind of crime yeah that's crazy that's not i stole some shit out of a car right that's i saw you when i took your money in his wallet than there is in his glove box that's what i mean which is that's a that's another level of yeah confronting people like that's violent that's
Starting point is 00:15:08 violent exactly uh he's given two years probation uh for that wow so he gets off pretty lucky and that's because he's young uh i think he just turned 18 or he was 17 at the time yeah and um you know he's got the boxing so he's got his boxing coaches saying you know oh we're gonna keep on the straight and narrow and he's a he's uh he's got the boxing, so he's got his boxing coaches saying, you know, oh, we're going to keep on the straight and narrow. And he's got hope, basically. He's one of the kids that can get out of here and all that kind of shit. He's already shown the desperation of the south side of Chicago, though, with the robbery and theft. Well, they're telling him, like, oh, but he's doing great.
Starting point is 00:15:37 He's one of the guys. This isn't going to be a thing for him because he's got a career. He'll turn it around. He'll turn it around, and we're going to help him and all that shit. So he gets two years probation, which, I mean, mean hey kids need a chance sometimes uh he has three convictions in his teens though before he hits 20 which is not wonderful no obviously uh it's you know 14 15 minutes into the episode he's got three convictions already you can tell the type of thing we're laid out for today. It's not a long story.
Starting point is 00:16:05 And then he's going to go take blows to the head. Oh, lots of them. So many blows to the head. This guy's just, he's one of those guys that's just like, well, I could take more than you can. So you can beat on me and I can beat on you. But at the end of the day, I can beat on you more because my head's harder.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Like, it's a crazy, I can't imagine that as my as my i'm gonna work because i'll stick around the longest yeah you can't knock me out but i'll knock you out eventually or i'll just go the distance but you can't knock me out because my head is a solid block basically his his his strategy it's a weird thing uh he's the catholic youth organization champion as an amateur uh Chicago Park District champion, and two-time Chicago Golden Gloves champion. Champion. So bad motherfucker in the heavyweight division,
Starting point is 00:16:52 or I believe it's super heavyweight and amateur if you're over 200 pounds. So yeah, he comes along very quickly. A lot of guys, as we talk about, will have 175 amateur fights. We're always stunned yeah by the amount of amateur fights he has about 30 that's good before he wants to turn front so that's good for a heavyweight though these lightweights can go honestly they can go fight you know 175 fights or whatever but these heavyweights are you're taking blows these guys if you're getting hit massive ones yeah if you're getting hit from somebody ones. Yeah. If you're getting hit from somebody, it's 230. That's a shot, man.
Starting point is 00:17:25 I get that the repetitive nature of whatever, but 230 punching you hard is a different type of thing. That's the difference between stealing some shit out of somebody's car and sticking a gun in their face. It's the difference between those two. Now, he says, Oliver says, quote, back when I had three first round knockouts in Golden Gloves in Chicago, my first trainer, Arthur Moore, who's a great ex-fighter. He's a tremendous, Christ, I think 55 fights or something. He won 63 fights or something.
Starting point is 00:17:56 No, wait, that's Archie Moore. Never mind. Different guy. Different guy. Yeah. Arthur Moore told me, quote, Oliver, I haven't met anyone with your natural ability since joe lewis oh since joe lewis how about that joe lewis was a star in the 30s and the 40s we've been gone he fought a year yeah he fought max schmeling to like to literally beat the embodiment of hitler that's that's how long ago that was joe le Lewis. That's who he fought.
Starting point is 00:18:25 So, you know, yeah, he said, I thought he said that just because he was training me at the time. So he thought he was getting like, he thought the dude was scamming. He fucking believed in you, kid. Yeah, he thought he was getting scammed. Like, oh, this motherfucker, he's probably going to try to touch my dick. Right. That's probably what he was thinking. Tell me I'm as good as Joe Lewis.
Starting point is 00:18:40 Yeah, I'm as good as Joe Lewis. I'm pretty, right? I'm pretty, yeah. Joe Lewis's fucking ass, that's right. Okay, I don't think so. So yeah, he's 6'2", 230, like I said here. He goes to the National Golden Gloves at the State House Convention Center in Little Rock, Arkansas in March of 85. That's where the Nationals are?
Starting point is 00:19:01 That's the Nationals. Jesus. Good Lord, that sounds fucking... Kick ass in your state to get a vacation in Little Rock? In Little Rock at the State House Convention. So downtown Little... Scenic downtown Little Rock. Come see our road.
Starting point is 00:19:16 I don't know. Come see a statue of Bill Clinton. We've paved it recently. So there's that. Everybody just stares. A statue of Bill Clinton made of old tires everybody's yeah kind of looks like him i guess they did put it right by that road they made so that's pretty impressive we melted the tires with our bick lighters what's that stuff they put on top of
Starting point is 00:19:38 the ground to make it smooth what's that stuff that's that small they did that to one of them roads there it's pretty pretty amazing yeah and if you've ever been to arkansas and driven through it on the i-40 it might as well not be paved because it is just a fucking disaster all through there for the entire state what fix your shit arkansas it's like lord it's like new jersey it's like they forgot that it snows there because it's so fucking hot in the summer. It's just a disaster. I feel like there's just people, like big trucks with like a giant hook hanging off the back of it, clanging around, breaking up the concrete.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Just smashing the road. That's how I picture Arkansas. With like a guy sitting on top. A tow hook that just bounces and makes potholes all day. And he drives back and forth across the state. With a guy hanging off the chain with a shotgun in one hand and a beer in the other going, woo! And shooting into the ground.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Shooting in the air. Straight on the highway. And that's just normal traffic. Yeah. No one looks twice at that. That's the grand marshal for traffic in the morning. No, that's a state trooper. That's a state trooper.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Get your shit together, Arkansas. Come shit together jesus he's a lieutenant governor and you're like lieutenant governor come on inside the truck please at least you're gonna do that i don't know why just a giant one yeah it's gotta be a big cartoon metal so hooks breaking concrete flying cars behind it. You know what I'm getting at. Or a guy dragging a snow plow in the summer. Oh, yeah. Just chunking that shit out.
Starting point is 00:21:11 It's just hanging off the truck, too. It's barely attached to it. He's like, that bolt will go eventually. It just bounces. It's going to go eventually. Click, clack. So if you fight well enough, you get to go there and see that. Enjoy.
Starting point is 00:21:26 What a reward. So, yeah, he loses to a guy named Tevin George by decision there. He defeats on January 2nd of that year. He defeats Roderick Wilbur by decision here in the Chicago Championships in the Golden Gloves. And he ends up winning that finally after that. And then he, I don't know, he beat some guy named Larry Thomas in July of 85, but that doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:21:51 We're going to buzz through. We'll skip a couple of the fights. I'll just give you like he won this one, lost that one type of thing with a few of them because he fought like 70 times. So we can't go over every one in detail. That's insane. He's got a couple of fights that transcend interest in boxing as well really you just yeah it doesn't matter they're just interesting uh boxing aside because it has
Starting point is 00:22:11 nothing to do with boxing what takes place in the ring as you'll find out what bonkers okay fucking bonkers pro debut november 2nd 1985 in uh villa park illinois which we did a small town murder on okay we remember the two remember the two. I don't. The lesbian ladies. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. The other one that wrapped up and all that. There's only been a couple of those. Sex, Lies, and Duct Tape was the name of it.
Starting point is 00:22:32 All right. If you're looking for it. So he fights a guy named Lou Bailey, who's a one and three coming in. And in his career, he's one and four. So this is it for him. TKO in round one for Oliver. So he gets off to a jump and start here. Goes his second fight, December 6th, 85, is at the Las Vegas Hilton.
Starting point is 00:22:50 So his second fight's in Vegas, which is pretty cool. Off the strip. Still, he's getting on a plane for his second fight. He's not like taking the Greyhound to Racine, which is for a second fight, as we've talked about. A lot of these are like he's in a gravel pit six miles from his house for his third fight. And if he wins, he gets a ham sandwich that's been sitting around
Starting point is 00:23:12 it's been around for a couple hours, but you know, they presented it at the beginning of the fight. You got to make quick work of your opponent if you want to get it before it turns green. Otherwise, you're fed to a hungry mob of bobcats. That's what happens. I'm sorry. Those are your choices. Win or lose. That's the fight. Those are your choices. Win or lose.
Starting point is 00:23:26 That's it. So December 6th at the Hilton, he fights Joey Chris John, who's a 3-0 guy coming in. And he ends up 12-16-3, so it doesn't quite work out for him. This fight goes all four rounds. It's a unanimous decision, and Oliver loses. Oh, no. So he's 1-1. That wasn't expected. No.
Starting point is 00:23:44 I don't think that's what they were looking for out of him first outing in vegas yeah he's also he's being trained by joe frazier by the way in the beginning of his career yeah smoking joe yeah he's a chicago guy so when he comes up in chicago one of his trainers is smoking joe frazier so if you're going to get trained by a heavyweight that's a guy that's a guy especially a guy who you know like a guy like lennox lewis you can't teach a guy to be six five and have reached across the ring and jab like that you can't just holy shit that his natural proportions work well for it whereas a guy like joe frazier was a little guy that had to get in close to you and hit you with that tight hook
Starting point is 00:24:19 have some strategy it's a guy yeah it's a guy that if you're if you're six two and you can have a little bit of joe frazier and you could really be a bad motherfucker boy could you and so but he ends up oliver ends up having uh what they call kind of sparring partner complex he's a very good sparring partner yeah and uh he's a sparring partner as we'll talk about in a minute for some very famous people and uh they say that he gets paid so well as a sparring partner that he's not hungry in his fights. There's no need. He's been working, so he looks at it as another day at work because he boxes constantly for money.
Starting point is 00:24:54 So it's like every day he goes in to spar, that's money for him. He's not just training. He's training and sparring and making money for it. And there's no threat of really dying while you're sparring. That's the thing. He had gear and shit like that. So it's, well, for who he's fighting, there's still a risk of it but but it's it's interesting though so he kind of they say that he doesn't he never they never feel like in the beginning of his
Starting point is 00:25:13 career that he really gave ever put it into that last year like he was always kind of like well another day at the office whereas in a fight you have to be ready pumped up you have to be just wanting blood. Yeah, it's a different thing. So January 18th, a few weeks later, in 86, he fights Felix Shorter. It was 2-1 coming in. He beats him by TKO. He's 2-1 now, Oliver is.
Starting point is 00:25:38 In June, he fights Kimuel. Kimuel is the guy. It's K-I-M-M-U-L. It's Manuel and Kim mixed together.uel kimuel odom this is his first fight he'll end up 17 and 30 i hate that name kimuel it's the weirdest name i've ever heard this fight goes all four rounds again uh unanimous decision but uh oliver wins this time good three and one in august he fights james churn who's 5 and20 coming in. This is a tune-up fight here. Let's give you a tomato can to knock over quick.
Starting point is 00:26:08 This is a first-round knockout, 4-1. September of 86, he fights Larry Roberson, 3-18-1 coming in. He ends up 3-24-1 for his career. Doesn't go well after that. TKO win for Oliver here. He's 5-1. Now, at this point, he is the sparring partner of mike tyson he becomes mike's main sparring partner like this is mike's man in new york or in chicago
Starting point is 00:26:32 and this is wherever mike is training for fights oh he goes wherever he goes yeah this is no he is mike's guy at this point he's paying mike as well mike's paying him well we'll talk about this oliver says quote i guess i sparred more than 300 rounds with Tyson and he never knocked me down once. But I put him down once. And we'll talk about that in a minute. We had a hell of a battle every time. That's why he paid me $2,000 a week. We're talking mid 80s.
Starting point is 00:26:58 $2,000 a week is a grand a month. Big fucking money in the mid 80s. It's good money now. But in the 80s, that is great money. So if you're making that money and you're living Mike Tyson, because if you're going everywhere with Tyson, you're living in his facilities. It's all top-notch at this point.
Starting point is 00:27:16 He's heavyweight champ by late 86. So it's all top-notch. You're getting $100,000 a year just to dick around with Mike. You're not. I mean, it's not dicking around. You've got gotta get the shit beat out of you by mike tyson literally like fucking four days a week like that's not an easy job but he's a real box but he likes it so he doesn't care but i mean like when you fight in the gym you're not fighting in some ratty shitty gym where you're gonna go sit and it's too hot yeah it's might get mercer it's a you know yeah that's
Starting point is 00:27:40 what i mean this is we're talking everything's clean and white and shiny in this gym if mike wants it that way you know if you're gonna he's not putting you up at the at the travel lodge you're probably gonna stay where he's staying at a nice hotel or wherever or a nice uh barrack or whatever the fuck they set it up for certain fighters with training they get him like a kind of a retreat type of thing that's rad yeah so it's a it's it's it's different so that's an easy lifestyle i'll then go and fight in some shithole somewhere. And his fights at this point, he's making like 300 bucks a fight. So two grand a week to fight Tyson.
Starting point is 00:28:11 And then he goes to his fight. And it's kind of a letdown. Hey, you're not fighting Mike Tyson anymore. So you're down a little bit for that. And you're not even making any money for it. But the good news is you're used to fighting Mike Tyson. That's the thing. So no matter how hard this guy punches me, it's not Mike fucking Tyson.
Starting point is 00:28:26 And that's the thing. And he has an iron jaw, as we'll talk about through his career. He has a very interesting stat that we'll get to here. October 25th, 86, he fights Bashir Wadood.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Wow, that's a good name. Bashir Wadood. 11-12-1 coming in. Is he an Eastern guy? I don't know. Bashir. I mean, I assume he's not Dutch. Bashir Wadood. 11-12-1 coming in. Middle Eastern guy? I don't know. Bashir. I mean, I assume he's not Dutch. But the Wadood part.
Starting point is 00:28:50 W-A-D-U-D. Wadood. Wadood. Wadood. I don't know who that guy is. I don't know who you are, Bashir. He's 11-16-1 for his career, so he never wins another fight. This goes all four rounds again.
Starting point is 00:29:01 Unanimous decision. See, that's the thing they say with oliver sometimes is he's lazy on offense that's what you hear a lot about him he's tough yeah but he's lazy on offense they say just he'll have openings and he doesn't take them and he's just not just kind of laid back in the ring it's a like a sparring guy is because we're down a bit well a sparring partner doesn't go for the kill because you're going trying to continue the fight you're not pointing you're volleying right so it's a it's not so when you get in the ring it's a totally different mindset for a fight yeah you know what i'm saying a sparring partner has to be he's got to be he's
Starting point is 00:29:34 almost like an assist man right you know he's not looking for the shot whereas he's got a it's like a guy jogging next to a guy that's jogging yeah he's a secret service guy jogging next to the president you're keeping the stamina you're not fucking he's yeah you're trying to beat him you're jogging six feet behind him with the thing in your ear going yeah i see his ass it's fine no one's tried to kill him yet all right i'll check back in with you now december of 86 in all in all sip illinois he fights al chico evans i don't know what's chico about al evans but uh Al Evans actually got, in an amateur tournament in 1981, got a TKO win on Mike Tyson. Really? Al Evans, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:12 So, I mean, in 81, Mike Tyson was like 14. Oh, yeah. That might be illegal, Al. Real fucking young. But I think Al Evans was like 15, so it was an amateur tournament. But he got a TKO win on tyson so i don't give a shit what you do yeah rest of your life you're like i fucking beat mike tyson i don't know what the hell you're talking about yeah now chico's one and oh coming in he ends up being four and six
Starting point is 00:30:33 for his career so from 81 on they're they're him and tyson went in separate directions i don't know how many criminal charges he ever had but i can look it up. This goes all four rounds again. So it just keeps going. Unanimous decision. Win again for Oliver. 7-1. March of 87. He fights Fred Whitaker. 1-0 coming in.
Starting point is 00:30:53 This goes all six rounds. Unanimous decision. 8-1. So he just keeps doing this. Fights a guy named Tim Morrison in May of 87 in his debut. And Oliver says, Welcome to boxing with a first round knockout for him nine and one so now he's nine and one it's 1987 seems like things are going well for him uh he's
Starting point is 00:31:12 mike tyson's sparring partner he's you know his career isn't exactly where he wants it to be he's making you haven't heard of any of these guys he's been fighting he's only been professional for a little bit 10 fights and he was in you know wasn't an amateur for that long and they were fast they were fast yeah quick they came very that's the thing so at this point though you think things are going well for him uh he's got a wife at this point uh also has three daughters jesus by now yeah three daughters uh at 22 what so that is he's fucking he's a prodigious uh he's a prodigious inseminator we'll call him that should be the name of this episode the prodigious inseminator because yeah he doesn't stop today well he ends up with well he'll end up with i don't know if i'm going
Starting point is 00:31:56 to keep track of all of me i'll end up with seven kids in all oh my god and that's only the ones that you know we know about because he he gets around as he'll say himself he that, you know, we know about. Because he gets around, as he'll say himself. He's, you know, philandering as much as humanly possible in his heyday. So it's a, who knows? That's too much. He's a seven, like, at home, like with his family. Oh, boy. Under the same roof.
Starting point is 00:32:16 Non-extracurricular children. He's probably, sure he's got some extracurriculars hanging out around there. I don't think I've ever heard children described as extracurricular but fuck it it's better than bastard or illegitimate yeah illegitimate is that's a fuck that makes it sound like you're not even a person right like no you're not actually it's like someone should tear your birth certificate up oh no you're illegitimate you don't have this like someone cutting your credit card up in front of you or something like illegitimate means you're not even a child. Extracurricular. At least that just means like.
Starting point is 00:32:47 That's descriptive. It was fun, too. Extracurricular is always an exciting one. Yeah. Sounds like a fun game of kickball, doesn't it? It was elective. Oh, there's butterflies going around. I'm an elective child.
Starting point is 00:32:57 Yeah. Sounds elective, right? Yeah. Extracurricular is an elective. Yeah. Rather than a, yeah, very good. Or an illegitimate. It's fucking illegitimate.
Starting point is 00:33:07 That one has some stymie to it. That one hurts. Yeah. Yeah. It sounds like a judgment on your humanism. Or your mom or dad, depending on which one. Oh, it's a judgment on everybody. It's everybody. It's aspersions all around.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Everybody sucks in this situation, especially that child. Illegitimate. And all the shame's on the kid. Oh, it's on the kid. It's not even on the fucking assholes that did it. Oh, onames on the kid oh it's on the kid even on the fucking assholes that did oh on the parents i think it goes on the parent it even goes on the parents parents the kids grandparents because they raised these people to have these this illegitimate child and they also usually have to raise the illegitimate child oh little bastard he's just a little bastard i'll tell you so uh june 6th 87 now he fights on may 30th 87
Starting point is 00:33:49 knocking a guy out in the first round extracurricular kids extracurricular children you know how that works he's jacking picture him juggling a poor elective fuck poor little elective bastards that's what you say oh you're an elective. Okay, I get it. It sounds so much better. It sounds voluntary. Those kids should be high-fived, though, because they were at least the product of super fun sex. That's what an extracurricular sounds great. At least there was lots of smiles.
Starting point is 00:34:19 Yeah, you stayed after school and you didn't even have to, because that's how much fun it was. The planned kids should be the illegitimate ones. That was grudge fucked and created under necessity. We've always wanted this, I suppose. Here it is. Is it as good as you'd hoped? Ugh, I'm done.
Starting point is 00:34:37 I'm going to sleep. I meant the kid, not the sex. Is this what you wanted? Or both. Does it satisfy you now? No? Alright. it's crying again perfect no we still don't like each other great fucking perfect i think that goes on in house that should be the illegitimate kid yeah that's not extracurriculars great so uh june 6th of 1987 is he runs into some problems here to put it mildly this is this is fucking ridiculous what he does here okay it's a sunday
Starting point is 00:35:16 yeah he starts off the sunday by uh dropping his wife off a church okay what sounds completely legit at this point, right? Innocent, yeah. You can't get any more innocent than that. He's literally dropping his wife, not going to church with his wife. Why isn't he going with her? Right, that's a question.
Starting point is 00:35:35 That's the thing. She wants to go to church, he doesn't. That's fine. He might have things to do. That's the thing. He's got errands to run. Listen, he might be an atheist. We don't know that.
Starting point is 00:35:43 There's a baseball game on. Who knows? He's got shit to do. He likes him he might be an atheist. We don't know that. There's a baseball game on. Who knows? He's got shit to do. He likes him some Jesus, as we'll talk about later on. Hey, everybody. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:38:05 Okay? Now, what they do is they break into a home on 4 Mile Road in Wind Point and a home in the 700 block of Kentwood Drive in Caledonia. Okay? That's two homes. Two homes they burglarize. They break in and steal a bunch of shit.
Starting point is 00:38:21 Oh, no. Two VCRs, which in 87 was worth a lot. Yeah, that's a car. A VCR was worth like 600 bucks an 87. That was a big deal. You could pawn that for like 200 probably,
Starting point is 00:38:31 but even if you're a crackhead. So two VCRs, a TV set, jewelry, and other items are taken in all these break-ins. It's a real robbery. Oh, they're robbing.
Starting point is 00:38:40 They're fucking robbing. Yeah, there's no like, oh, I know a guy who keeps a 20 under his pillow. This is like, let's take their TV and their tv and their highest ticket items in their homes jewelry tv that's it grab it and go so uh what ends up happening is uh uh someone sees this and they are uh they're they're called they call the cops on them basically and uh they are uh pulled over well they try to pull them over and uh oliver ain't pulling over okay he decides instead to take police on a hundred mile an hour
Starting point is 00:39:12 car chase evading now evading oh yeah with a literally like and i mean literally because it's stuffed into the car there's like a vcr like a gold necklace like hanging out the window as he's fucking going 100 miles an hour down the street yeah like the tv cord rolled up in the window and the tv's bouncing down the freeway it's a it's yeah that's what's breaking the road up in our yeah he's heading heading arkansas following the hook bottles to make so literally like this is the most obvious way you could be caught doing anything like red-handed not red-handed but i don't know what in possession of everything missing at least maroon-handed if you're yeah at minimum yeah you have everything a hell of a shade of red it's yeah you weren't caught like in the house with it in your hand but it's in your car driving good enough they're about to report the serial numbers yeah so
Starting point is 00:39:59 he takes him on a pretty good chase here for a little while of 100 miles an hour finally the car slides off the road at morris street and crashes into some trees oh boy he's tc'd uh yeah crashes into the trees so then they don't give up still they get out of the car and run through through the woods these fucking idiots the original cops episode this is yeah this is insane yakety sax is playing and it's absolute this is asinine This is the most stereotypical police chase ever. Yeah, two idiots in a car with the shit they stole running through. It's so stupid. The only thing that would make it stupider is if one of them got out while the car was still moving.
Starting point is 00:40:36 Because I love when that one slows down so one guy can jump out. He tumbles out. He goes over here, and he runs. You go that way. I'll go this way. A bunch of coordinating it out at the same time. So uh uh yeah so they ran away they're arrested a short distance away because they're in the goddamn woods yeah and the cops have flashlights and they don't so radios helicopters they're just running through woods this is so dumb not gonna happen here so
Starting point is 00:41:00 they're arrested uh they found all of the items taken in their car yeah like idiots property worth around five thousand dollars taken by the two it's a good day it's a good it's a good haul it's not bad it's and we're talking 87 too so this is it's like 10 million dollars today it's at least 25 i think it's a big deal it's a lot so uh yeah he's taken in uh also extensive damages from resulted from one of the home break-ins. They couldn't break in easy, so they just busted through a door. Busted up the frame and shit like that. Yeah, dicks.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Which is probably how they got caught. Somebody probably heard that. Did you hear an explosion? I think somebody just blew open a door. Did you hear just a boom? Did you hear plastic explosives? That's what I heard. Is that a 17-year-old kid in a professional boxer carrying a TV and a bunch of jewelry across our neighbor's lawn?
Starting point is 00:41:47 That's probably not okay, right? Right. We should probably call somebody, I think. It's a very large man carrying many Sanyos across the yard right now. It seems like it's not right. I don't know. I'm not an expert on this subject here, but it seems bad. Right.
Starting point is 00:42:00 So they're arrested, like I said. Seems bad. Right. So they're arrested, like I said. Now, the 17-year-old, he's put into adult court on charges of burglary and obstructing, and that's the same charges that Oliver is going to face. Now, Hedgepeth here is released on a $2,000 bond co-signed by his parents because he's 17 and all. And remember one of our rules? never have a teenager in your hit squad
Starting point is 00:42:26 or your robbery squad or anything. Any criminal empire, keep minors out of it. If you're an adult and you're going to do some crime, don't have anyone in your crew that if you're arrested is going to be picked up by their parents. Or the word teen in their age. Any of that is bad.
Starting point is 00:42:44 So yeah, no good jesus if convicted this hedge pet faces a maximum of nearly 21 years in prison oh my which is obviously everything stacked you know that would be maximum if the judge hated the face of this kid or something i don't like to look see you look you're legitimate you're like an extracurricular kid to me extra these extracurricular kid to me. These extracurriculars. Someone do something for the extracurriculars. Good God. What's your name?
Starting point is 00:43:11 Hedgepeth. Are you one of those electives? Are you an elective? That's right. You elective bastard. 21 years. 21 years. Maximum for everything.
Starting point is 00:43:23 Can you imagine if you actually get that? That's fucking somebody's gotten it. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like some weak ass charges like somebody with a long record already who's being a dick and like spitting at the judge. So, you know, or just the judge is a real asshole. So, you know, who knows?
Starting point is 00:43:39 I'm sure it's happened. I'm sure in the South, this goes on somewhere in Texas. Yeah. Or Alabama. I've seen my cousin Vinny I know what goes on somebody doing 90 in a 75 in Texas yeah put you right away
Starting point is 00:43:51 so McCall admits to committing the burglaries right away he's like nah I did it which I mean obviously he did it I mean all the shit's in the car and he ran away clearly but I mean it's not the best legal strategy to just right away admit you did it i mean all the shit's in the car and he ran away clearly but i mean it's not the best legal strategy to just right away you did it and you know giving any kind of leverage you have away at that point so it's conceding yeah he said that he needed to get money for rent and bills he said
Starting point is 00:44:15 he was broke yeah and he was out of money and three three kids and a wife and the rent's due and bills are due and let's get robbing motherfuckers on the south side of chicago what do you want what it is yeah you got a fight a week ago not enough to pay the bills you know i mean shit he's got to do it uh that's what he does so he he robs him now he he's end ends up being released on a twenty two thousand dollar uh bond uh signed by his mother so his mother ends up getting him out his mom and his stepdad, they put up their house to do it, to get him out, because they didn't have the cash. This is not a wealthy people here.
Starting point is 00:44:50 So he's charged with burglary and obstructing police, attempting to elude police, and two counts of burglary. He's, you know, he's pretty fucked. That's super understanding parents. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:02 I'm not doing that shit. No, well, his mom got him out. I don't know what, I mean, this is probably the fourth time she's done it at least that we know of so far so this is a that's wild this is a pattern i don't know yeah i mean just but what he did is just stupid what are you doing i can't imagine it's not yeah it's not like a dy or like something where you're like oh you fucking did something dumb and dumb, and you had a misjudgment of something, or anything like that. I know a dude who does that for his kid all the time.
Starting point is 00:45:29 What, drives drunk? No, no, bails him out. Oh, well. Bails him out and kicked him out. Hey, you know what? I love you. I'll come wherever you're at, and I'll pick you up. No, I love you.
Starting point is 00:45:39 I'll drive, because I love you. I don't think about you all day. I know you have your license, and you're sober, but I love you i don't think about you all day i know you have your license and you're sober but i love you there's nothing you can do about it i'll always love you no matter how many drinks i have he keeps bailing him out this kid keeps fucking up and he keeps bailing him out and he'll be like jimmy he's in again, and I'm getting him out. I'm going to put him in a halfway house. And I'm like, why? Why are you doing this?
Starting point is 00:46:10 That's why he keeps doing this. That's why the kid keeps fucking up, because you're not letting him learn. Well, and then sometimes if you throw him away, the next thing you know, they're going to be in a fucking dumpster. And then they're like, fuck it, I'm just going to blow it all away. Well, I mean, yeah, that kind of happened with a cousin of mine. He ended up dying of a heroin overdose. Oh, Jesus. I mean, that's the alternative.
Starting point is 00:46:29 Oh, my God. It's very difficult when someone's, especially when it's like drugs like that. What do you do? Because you take them in and then they fuck up a lot and then you can't take them in anymore and then they die and you feel bad. So it's like you can't. That's a good point. You can't win that one.
Starting point is 00:46:44 And then you feel like a worse parent because you're like what i could have done something about it exactly a little bit of money yeah it was an inconvenience or you're trying to tough love which sounds good but then someone dies you're like well what good is that now right somebody dies you're like 2200 is all it would have taken to keep that guy alive i would have paid it yeah that's that's the thing here uh now there's a guy named sean curtain who's an inspector with the illinois athletic commission he just changed my mind and now i just feel really bad for that guy he's living a tough life man he doesn't know what to do god damn it it's his kid i mean yeah he doesn't know what to do fuck up or not i'm looking at my my 11 year old who's never committed any his biggest offense is lying to me and i'm like you
Starting point is 00:47:24 fuck up and i'll let you stay in jail you little bastard he doesn't even got it i'm looking at this guy i'm like i'm gonna bail him out jesus dad i'm gonna get him out i left goldfish crumbs sorry good lord lighten up i took a hard line and now you really know i'm a soft fucking you really well you really went i made a u-turn on you really went hard on it though jimmy you were like fuck that kid let him rot wow okay he's a sarchie bunker calm down now i've got a heart again yeah jesus christ so uh now uh sean curtain here who like i said the inspector he's an inspector with the ill Athletic Commission. He told the newspaper here that he's on the verge of bigger paydays, McCall. And so right now, he said he's on the verge of making at least $1,000 a fight.
Starting point is 00:48:14 Yeah. And compared to about $300 he's making now. And he also said that it's a complete surprise, this arrest. He said, quote, he's a nice fella. I was surprised he got in trouble. Were you? He's a nice fella, was surprised he got in trouble were you it's a nice fella that guy tell you tell you what he was arrested four times by the time he was 19 man but still he's a nice fella jimmy when you're a nice fella it's it's very weird he's also
Starting point is 00:48:35 desperate and been taught how to serve he's a survivor oh he's a survivor yeah we'll talk about that so his attorney says that he's mccall's trying to resolve the criminal charges so his boxing career isn't ruined he the excuse is this is amazing his lawyer says listen oliver's not a drinker okay he does smoke a lot of crack but that's beside the point drinking he's not no tolerance for it so he said he does smoke some crack as we'll get into. He says that he's a non-drinker, but he was drunk. He got he had a few drinks and was drunk. And since he's not a drinker, he didn't recognize the effects of the alcohol to know how intoxicated. This is his real legal excuse.
Starting point is 00:49:19 This is a lawyer that went to law school is going to pass a test and everything. He doesn't drink. So, you know, so, you know, first beer, you remember that, you know, it happens to pass a test and everything. He doesn't drink, so, you know. It's his first beer. You remember that. You know what happens when a non-drinker. So he says he picked up his friend here, and he said, this is his lawyer's quote, quote, he decided he'd nip a little, and that was it.
Starting point is 00:49:38 Nip a little, drink. And he said, he decided he'd nip a little, but he wasn't used to the effects of alcohol. So the lawyer said, quote, he shouldn't even have been driving. I mean, clearly, that's not the best defense. Listen, he got shit faced and went for a drive. Okay. No, that's our legal defense. No. And then drove 100 miles an hour, endangering the lives of civilians and police officers
Starting point is 00:49:58 and everybody else. My car pack was stolen goods. You're making it worse, sir. This is so he was drunk, too. Okay. There's another charge. What are we doing? There's no way he was fleeing officers he was drunk your honor yeah he's he's hammered he just he thought that was a party he thought it was strobe lights behind him he was
Starting point is 00:50:14 going like he was like pushing his hands he was like dancing and like like doing like a thing with a with a light stick over he was like thought it was a fucking rave dude he was anyway took some ecstasy uh his lawyer said it is a tough case to defend but he hopes to show that mccall is he's married he has three kids uh he says in the paper he doesn't have a criminal record which is a complete lie he does have a criminal record he tells the press that he doesn't later on the prosecutor's like actually he's got a pretty healthy criminal record. And the robbery from a person is the thing I'm very concerned about here. Yeah, they do. The prosecutor showed the reporters a teletype of all of his previous arrests.
Starting point is 00:50:54 And he's like, I don't know where his lawyer's getting his arrest record from. But, you know, they say. He asked his client. Yeah. This would be a second adult felony conviction, which would be, you would be right in line for prison time, the prosecutor says. His lawyer says that he's going to discuss the case with the prosecutor. He hoped that his boxing career would be viewed as very gainful employment. That would give him a reason to not want him to be in prison.
Starting point is 00:51:20 He says other cases like this end with people being able to continue in their jobs and not wanting to screw that up. So his lawyer just says, you know, he should be able to continue in his job. He said, quote, I would hate to see this destroy his career. It's a tragic mistake. It's not a tragic mistake. You purposely went. You dropped your wife off at church and drove to another county with plenty of time to think about it to rob houses. The tragic mistake is missing a stop
Starting point is 00:51:45 sign and uh injuring somebody yeah well that's a yeah exactly that's a tragic mistake we all feel bad about it this is an idiot son was in his eyes yeah didn't see the stop sign son was in his eyes it was you know it was late in the day he had a few broken old lady's hip you know how it is the lights people were yelling that's a tragic mistake flashes were going on yeah so uh a boxing and this is frank glienna who's a boxing and wrestling supervisor with the illinois athlete athletic commission so he's full of shit uh he says quote you could knock me over with a feather he's perhaps the best heavyweight prospect in illinois this guy's got the potential to make an awful lot of money he has the credentials to be a world-class fighter so he's saying you know
Starting point is 00:52:30 what the fuck is he doing basically what the fuck is wrong with this guy so august 11th 1987 he's back fighting again at the uic pavilion in chicago he fights richard scott who's a six seven and two fighter and this will be his last fight as Oliver knocks the shit out of him. Knocks him out, goes to 10 and 1. August 30th, 87, he fights Kim Adams, who's an 0 and 3 fighter. So you know how that goes. 11 and 1 now. It's a knockout.
Starting point is 00:52:55 He's also sparring with Ray Mercer at this point, who's another pretty good heavyweight. Yeah. And a guy named, Jesus Christ, a guy named Bruce Blair, who works for kind of the, the, the Don King kind of umbrella or did for a few years here. He said that McCall at one point was a sparring partner for Mercer. And he said that McCall would quote, toss down shots and beers for three or four hours, leave at midnight with a couple of babes in tow,
Starting point is 00:53:24 roll in at 4 a.m and give mercer hell and sparring at noon holy shit so that's the yeah he's just naturally animal yeah he said quote i always said that if that guy ever harnessed all that physical ability he could be something special yeah so we're sensing a pattern here of just not if he's making enough money to survive and live his lifestyle and shit like that he doesn't really have a real push right to the great that hunger to the next level which a lot of people don't in life in general and in in entertainment and sports and everything is happy with being mediocre well there's there's talent and then there's desire those are very separate things you gotta match them together and that's when you get a superstar. Yeah. Talentability and desire are three ways.
Starting point is 00:54:06 They're all in separate places. That's a great point. It's true. You have to have all of those things, or else it's not going to work. There's tons of people who- A ton of people have the desire. A ton of people have the desire, and then so many people have crazy gifts that just don't.
Starting point is 00:54:21 That's not what they're into. Right. They don't have the desire. We talked about in the Lenny Dykstra episode billy bean the uh the you know the gm of the yeah of the a's he just like didn't have that desire he looked at lenny dykstra and said i could never do that just i don't have that i don't have whatever he has whatever he has that that swagger and that you know i don't give a fuck i'm gonna go out there and just do it i don't just i don't have that and i can't get it so it's something to recognize in yourself most people don't recognize shit like that so i give that guy
Starting point is 00:54:47 credit so uh january 22nd 88 he fight he's fighting atlantic city now all right oh boy you can smell the dead fish from here he fights mike the bounty hunter oh fuck you mike yeah we're gonna get into some nicknames now you oh boy so much well uh this goes all six rounds it's a unanimous decision loss for oliver oh i don't know maybe it's charges hanging over his head and all that kind of shit a lot of his mind also his wife's about six months pregnant at this point with his fourth child oh my god uh yeah so he's 11 and two now so the beginning of this career has not been going great no You don't expect that this guy's going to be heavyweight champ anytime soon. And he does end up heavyweight champ, which is crazy.
Starting point is 00:55:31 Really? That guy was a... How do I not know that? Oh, you will. I loved boxing at this time. You will know it. When I tell you one thing, you're going to go, oh my God, it's that guy. All right.
Starting point is 00:55:42 So March 3rd, 88, his son is born, Elijah. Dodge that bullet. Yeah. There you go. But who knows what he's got. But it's that guy all right uh so march 3rd 88 his son is born elijah dodged that bullet yeah there you go but who knows what he's still biblical yeah it's it's biblical all right well it's also uh his manager's name so what is happening yeah he's got i don't know if the guy is a mentor to him or something like that but later on i see in uh a quote from one of his managers from back then his name was elijah something. So I'm like, I wonder if he named him after him, maybe. Probably did. Possible. So now, while sparring with Tyson,
Starting point is 00:56:11 this is, he says, quote, it happened a couple weeks before Tyson was going to fight Spinks. I guess it woke Mike up. You saw what he did to Spinks. Do you remember Tyson Spinks? Spinks was, came in undefeated. And this was a unification bout. He had the other belt.
Starting point is 00:56:30 And this was the guy who was supposed to give tyson problems right spinks was a very good boxer and he could tie tyson up and he was gonna and nice mike knocked him out i think 91 seconds three three knocked every time the guy got up tyson would just pummel him and send him to the canvas so i mean this was this was mike's like holy shit coming out party like whoa, whoa, he's not only the best, he's the best by a lot. It's not even close. It ain't even close because that was number two. Holy shit. He said, quote, a lot of guys were intimidated by Tyson. You could see fear in their eyes like a deer caught in the headlights.
Starting point is 00:56:56 But I respected Mike. I never feared him. We must have sparred close to 300 rounds over a three-year span. And I learned a lot from the experience. The best way to fight him is that when he attacks you you attack right back and don't let him get focused that's how douglas beat him keeping him off balance so that's a good point that's it's it's a balance thing with tyson if he's coming forward at you because i we'll talk about it because one of the fighters that he's supposed to fight was actually trained by my stepfather
Starting point is 00:57:23 my stepmother's father father that was his manager and trainer for years and years and years so this tyson's coming forward the best option is you got to attack back the problem is if unless you're unless you have a real strong chin if he fucking gets you you're done that's the thing so that's a great strategy if you don't get knocked out but if you're a human being you know what i'm saying yeah so that's the problem yeah if you're a human being, you know what I'm saying? Yeah. So that's the problem. Yeah. If you're susceptible to, you know, fucking punches in the face, those kind of things make your brain hit your skull and make you unconscious.
Starting point is 00:57:54 There's a knockout of Tyson's in the fucking gut. Oh, yeah. Watching the man get hit. It made my stomach. It was a guy who just melts into the ground. Yeah. That's what I mean. And Tyson doesn't even have to hit you in the, he could hit me in the, give me a Charlie horse in the shoulder. made my stomach which guy just melts into the ground yeah that's what i mean and it's tyson
Starting point is 00:58:05 doesn't even have to hit you in the he gonna hit me in the give me a charlie horse in the shoulder i'm sure i'd go down that's what i owe you absolutely that's what i mean when you see tyson too when guys will it'll cover up yeah he'll go ahead and wail as hard as he can on your arm then if you cover up because you know what that ripple in your arm how many times well he doesn't care because if he hits you 30 times in each arm your arms aren't going to hold up very well anymore. They're going to be sore as fuck. Everywhere he punches you hurts. And that's the point.
Starting point is 00:58:30 That's what he's doing. He's like, I'll just keep hitting you until you can't defend yourself anymore. And he's wearing pillows. Yeah. And he's still fucking ruining people. What a fucking amazing sport. But that's how it is, though. He would come in and he'd give his little combo.
Starting point is 00:58:44 fucking amazing sport but that's how it is though he would come in and he'd he'd give his little combo and douglas rather than give that there's a certain rhythm in boxing and rather than give mike that rhythm which is what he depends on right getting the second ahead of the rhythm douglas would jump his rhythm and it was a weird thing you could see it like he never quite could get his yeah thing going he'd go like one two and come in for a three four and douglas would would fucking thwart the thing. And Tyson couldn't get his shit going. You could see it kind of scrambling. Frustrating as shit.
Starting point is 00:59:09 It frustrated him. You could see it was scrambling as shit. But McCall knocks him down during this. So he knocked Tyson down, and it was kind of a big deal. It was like a huge thing in boxing. His sparring partner knocked him down. McCall must be a bad son of a bitch if he knocked mike tyson down and tyson doesn't knock him down basically so march of 88 he's awaiting his sentencing uh his attorney this guy is just he is silver as they come boy william whittaker or william whittenall is trying his best oh boy he said his honesty should count
Starting point is 00:59:40 for something here he admitted to the robbery yeah he's an idiot and didn't fucking heed his miranda warning so that should count in his favor right uh he said quote mr mccall has steadfastly owned up to what he has done by no means are we accepting the conclusion that prison is the only appropriate sentence here so uh yeah that's that's what they're saying he's he's gonna get sentenced here pretty soon he pleaded no contest to two burglary charges here, and he said he's not going to sit around worrying about it. He said, quote, I'm Tyson's number one sparring partner now. They want me to go to Japan with him and fight with him in Japan. He was fighting against Tony Tubbs coming up, Mike Tyson.
Starting point is 01:00:19 He says, quote, McCall, he says, I'm just hoping I'll have to wait and see. He seems like a fair and honest judge. I could see that by the way he handled the case before mine so he's trying to cozy up yeah yeah he says uh he does have plans to eventually uh beat mike tyson and take his heavyweight championship and he says a prison term is going to fuck that whole thing up he said quote i think it would just ruin my career to some degree. It would be a matter of me being mentally inclined to keep it up. It's training and boxing what I know best, so I've just got to stick with it. So he keeps going while he's waiting for sentencing. Fights on June 30th, 88.
Starting point is 01:00:57 David Jaco, 20 and 13 fighter. Unanimous decision win, 12 and 2 for Oliver. July 88th is sent sentencing he tells the judge in a plea for mercy you're very judging you're very kind understanding judge judge um your balls not shiny enough you're a handsome man is what i'm getting at you're very you're stately i'll give it a shot you know i mean for an older guy i would say you know you're handsome is what i'm getting at you know and like uh anything i can do for you wink wink you know what i'm saying i mean like a like a 90s sean connery like an older sexy man like a you know
Starting point is 01:01:36 he's silver motherfucker so he says quote with another chance I know I can be a success as a fighter and a human being. And the judge says, you, sir, may fuck off. 60 days in jail, he gives him. Okay. And five years probation, which for Oliver is a stumbler. It's a stumbling block. Yeah. He says afterwards, he's happy about it, Oliver.
Starting point is 01:02:04 He says, quote, I was expecting a long sentence, but the judge was good to me. I think about it a lot. I'm always thinking about about my past but i don't let it bother me so he should five years probation though can you get i mean we'll find out but you can can you get out of the country with that for there's special things you can ask for if it's a work-related thing you can get waivers because he ends up doing it all the time deal with that all cons for five fucking years leaving the state is an issue too so they have to let him leave the state for his job and all that type of shit it's it's a pain in the ass uh september 16th 88 he fights a guy who's 4 and 22 you know wesley smith is his name does it matter uh tko in round two some ginger kid who cares 13 and 2 uh he fights bruce johnson a 5 and 8 fighter who ends up being nine and 33 for his career
Starting point is 01:02:45 punching bag and uh first round knockout win goes to 14 and 2 july 21st 89 and this is very interesting here uh he in atlantic city he fights uh in a warm-up fight for his mike tyson fight he fights james buster douglas no kidding uh this is the fight before Buster Douglas fights Mike Tyson in Japan and shocks the fucking world by beating him, being the largest underdog ever to beat a, you know, that was the craziest thing in the history of boxing. It still doesn't ring as fucking legitimate. It's the biggest. It feels illegitimate, James. If you watch the fight, it it's it's legitimate i mean tyson i was bananas i was actually did it i was impressed by how much beating tyson took that
Starting point is 01:03:31 fight he just kept getting fucked like i said it was just every time he'd come in it would you just get hit with a couple and be like jesus christ he was like like it would look like a guy who was fighting two people one he could see and one he couldn't see it's like i'm coming to you oh jesus i got hit the eye from the right. Where is that son of a bitch? Like, that's how. He fought James and Buster Douglas. And Buster together.
Starting point is 01:03:51 Buster's 27-4-1 coming in. I mean, he wasn't setting. He's a great fighter. Yeah, but he wasn't setting the world on fire. No, but that's a great record. He was a top-tier guy, but not a top, top-tier guy. Not a contender. You know, like, this was not a big fight for Tyson.
Starting point is 01:04:06 It was a warm-up fight for a bigger fight for Tyson. He didn't give a shit about this. So this fight goes all 10 rounds, though. So Tyson didn't go all 10 rounds with Douglas. Or it would have been 12 in that fight. But Tyson, I think it was the eighth he got knocked out.
Starting point is 01:04:19 This goes all 10. Unanimous decision for Buster, though. It's a loss for Oliver, but, you know, nothing to be ashamed of. The guy went on and beat Tyson in his next fight. He's a loss for Oliver, but nothing to be ashamed of. The guy went on and beat Tyson in his next fight. He's about to be heavyweight champ. He was at the top of his game.
Starting point is 01:04:30 You know what I mean? What are you going to do here? He's 14 and 3 now, Oliver. At this point, too, he said he started thinking about quitting because he wasn't making any money. Even at this point, he's making $1,000 a fight. Big fucking deal. And what if that's the end for Tyson? Yeah. I mean, also, too, yeah, that's the thing thing that was the big money fight that you had set up for you and and or you were thinking you had set up for you or even if it's not the big money fight for him he's if if tyson is over now because he's been beaten now he doesn't need a
Starting point is 01:04:57 sparring partner anymore at least one is gonna pay two grand a week that's a payday yeah it's his fucking livelihood so that's the thing he didn't like it's a it's a hard thing to wonder what you're doing it's a big chance to keep taking to do this i'm going to keep getting beat up for little money and little acclaim and little anything you just have to have faith in yourself i would imagine that you can do it it's like being a comic i think it's anything like this it's any any stupid endeavor. It's anything that 1099s you. That's what this is.
Starting point is 01:05:36 Any ill-advised endeavor that could end up with you wasting a shitload of time and brain cells can be very easily compared to stand up comedy. And money. And money. Anything like that. Just a dumb kind of a feels almost old. It feels like you left the farm to join the circus. It's like work outweighs the reward that's anything it feels like uh what is a hunter thompson always says it calls it an atavistic endeavor it feels like just an old school and and kind of doomed by the language type of that feels doomed just by the language of it so anyway
Starting point is 01:06:01 he uh he says he's he was pondering quitting at this point. He said, quote, there was a time that I thought about becoming a rhythm and blues singer. I performed at some clubs in Canada and Mexico, but after my wife heard me sing, she told me to keep my regular job. Keep getting punched in the face. Listen, Oliver. You're terrible at this.
Starting point is 01:06:21 I love you to get brain damage for a while because... You're better at that. I'm going to help you get around when you're older because this is bad. I can't listen to you. He said, I might have just quit, but I'd never really taken a real butt kicking. I always knew I could fight, but I just didn't have the right connections.
Starting point is 01:06:39 My first manager, Elijah Thomas, didn't know how to deal with big time promoters. So I think maybe that's where he got the Elijah from, if this guy was helping him out a lot. We're very familiar with that, too. Yeah. First agent. It's a tough go. It is.
Starting point is 01:06:53 It's tough, and they don't know what they're doing. Sometimes they don't know what they're doing. And sometimes, yeah, you hope they do, because you figure they know more than you. Right. And you're betting whatever future you've got on this, and then you learn lessons. And then you learn lessons hard ones then you do better the next time yeah and uh we have so uh july 16th 1990 oklahoma city he fights jesus christ another stupid nickname yeah i hate the punny nickname
Starting point is 01:07:19 especially when it goes with the name yeah i don't mind if it's like the serial killer or like the the fucking axe murderer or whatever you want to call yourself and it's something that goes with your last name like bounty hunter or this is worse lionel the train butler no that's as yeah it's not even threatening no it's christmas i think of that as thomas i just see christmas with the train i hear george carlin's voice in like a weird that hot member when he was reading thomas it's so strange yeah like say fucking fuck or something say cunt george call the other train a whore yeah please tell us talk about how much dick it sucks
Starting point is 01:07:58 call it a feministic bitch something yeah you would say i don't know anything that carlin says do it weird stop saying niceties yeah you weirdo so lionel the train uh goes all the way to the station here with all 10 rounds it goes oh boy all the way from fucking station to station here uh it's a split decision and uh oliver gets to win luckily 15 and 3 nove3. November, he fights Orlin Night Train Norris. Fine. I can get into that. Night Train Norris. Right.
Starting point is 01:08:29 Good. Orlin? Orlin. Like new without the S? No, no. O-R-L-I-N. Yeah. Orlin.
Starting point is 01:08:36 That's an ugly first name. You need a nickname. Yeah. Night Train Norris. Yeah. Sounds great. We have to badass you up. What's his first name?
Starting point is 01:08:43 Because that first name, little cocksucker. Orlin? It sounds kind of, with a name like Orlin, you've got to be tough. You better be. sounds great we have to badass you up what's his first name uh little cocksucker orland it sounds kind of with a name like orland you got to be tough you better be things so orland's 25 and 2 coming in he has been made fun of his whole life orland can throw down orland is a 57 and 10 career fighter my word you can fight that's a badass wow this goes all 10 rounds again so are you this is a lot of blows to the head. Yeah. Think about this. Heavyweight blows to the head, 10 rounds, and Oliver's not a guy who shies away from contact.
Starting point is 01:09:10 No. He's not a guy who dances around at all. He's a big bruiser. Sure. This is a split decision loss again. So 15 and four for Oliver. God damn it. Next fight is in 91 in April at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, the defunct Taj
Starting point is 01:09:24 Mahal versus, because it's been bankrupt for years. Bruce Seldon, better known as the Atlantic City Express. We've talked a bunch about Bruce Seldon. He's fought a bunch of the guys. He fought Rick Bowe, I think. Is he a fucking a native of. I think he's from AC, probably Southern Jersey. He's 18 and0 coming in.
Starting point is 01:09:45 Yeah. Important here. He knocks Seldon out. TKO in the ninth round. Really? So, yeah, this is a good win for Oliver here because Seldon's a big up-and-comer at 18-0. 18-0, they're expecting Seldon. This is the thing.
Starting point is 01:09:58 Seldon was the big up-and-comer that they were expecting big fights from. He was fighting McCall as a stepping stone, and McCall pissed everybody off by beating him. They did. They were like, oh, what a dick. How the fuck do we market 15-4 guy? 19-0 guy we can market. 15-4 guy, this sucks. Or 16-4 after this fight.
Starting point is 01:10:18 Then in June in Salem, Oregon, he fights Dan Wolford, who's a Jesus. This guy at this point in his career is 10-15-2. Ends up 17 wins, wins 102 losses and two draws so from this point on in his career think about this he wins seven yeah and he loses 87 oh my god for the rest of his career he goes 7 and 87 for every 11 fights he loses he wins one that is awful lose 11 win 1 out it's insane uh this is a round 5 uh tko win here uh for uh for uh oliver 17 and 4 next is at trump castle in ac he fights jesse the boogeyman fer. Whatever. 17-5 record. This goes all 10. Unanimous decision win for Oliver.
Starting point is 01:11:07 Next fight's at the Mirage in Vegas. He fights. I don't like this either when they name shit with their last name. Mike Big House Rouse. Nope. Are you a prisoner? Yeah. He's 6'7".
Starting point is 01:11:19 Okay. He's big. He's a big house. He's 18, 15, and 2. So, I mean, I don't know. TKO in round four for our man Oliver here, 19 and 4. Next fight's in Cleveland in June of 92. This is a big one.
Starting point is 01:11:31 He fights Tony TNT Tucker, who is 44 and 1 coming in. Okay. This is no joke here. 57 and 7 career record. Tony's a bad motherfucker. This goes the distance and a split decision loss for oliver so now he's 19 and 5 this record's not going well no you don't expect great things from him in december he fights lawrence poncho carter and gets a round three knockout there brings him up to 20 and 5 you need
Starting point is 01:11:58 to get that 20th win next thing you know he's at the uh the pyramid in in uh in where is that memphis here and uh the next month he fights mike the duke dixon and gets a second round knockout and he's at the pyramid in april and he fights a guy who's 30 and one actually francisco damiani he's from italy he's 30 and one and he turns out 30 and two for his career because this is his last fight how about that yeah so 30 and one and uh very promising promising, and Oliver halts the whole thing. How about that? He says, I think I'll change careers. That's very interesting, isn't it?
Starting point is 01:12:32 He knocked the pasta out of his pockets. He did. That's what he did. Knocked some marinara out of his ass. Knocked ravioli cavatelli all over the ring. It was a shame. So TKO win in a round. cavatelli all over the ring it was a shame so uh tk went around that's how you're gonna knock out with an italian guy all the pasta comes out of his
Starting point is 01:12:54 pockets and then the ref calls it it's like when the rockham soccums head goes off that's how it works if all the dry pasta falls out i'm seeing that foam in the corner of his mouth yeah just alfredo sauce that's all this it's like i had a i had a late supper i'm a little i'm a little sluggish but it's okay so uh all the liquids that come out of him yeah our italian sauces all different ones he bleeds marinara he's got a nice garlic that comes out sometimes he's very happy with that he cries butter oh he does it's a it's a garlic butter yeah it's very nice it's sweet it's like a it's like a scampi sauce like what you pour over a scampi or an escargot or something like that you know so oliver beating the pasta right out of him here knocking beating the clarified butter out of him here. Beating the clarified butter out of his pores. I want to see basil. Fuck.
Starting point is 01:13:47 And then, well, normally, that's what happens. Coming out of his brow. When Francisco knocks you out, he then sprinkles some parsley around you, around the edges of you. Some grated Romano.
Starting point is 01:13:57 Like a plate in an Italian joint in the 90s. He sprinkles some parsley around. Huh? Black pepper? He's got a big, giant, three-foot-long pepper thing.
Starting point is 01:14:07 Pepper? As you come to, you're like, what the fuck? Sprinkling pepper over you. This is why Italians don't fight anymore. That's what I mean. Well, the pasta's a real, it's like the rock and soccer match. If you just get knocked out from the pasta coming out of your pockets, then you can't really, you can't even fight through that. It's just over Rock'em Sock'em Man. If you just get knocked out from the pasta coming out of your pockets, then you can't even fight through that.
Starting point is 01:14:26 It's just over. That's hard. We've given it up. Italians are caricatures now. We've given it up as a people is what I'm getting at. That's why I'm not. I blame the Olive Garden. Well, you know how I feel about that.
Starting point is 01:14:40 I won't even get into it because we'll be here for two fucking hours. And I'll be like, oh, yeah, back to Oliver McCall. I just disparaged the Olive Garden for the last two hours. Thank you for listening to this five-hour crime and sports. Illegitimate Italian food. Special two-hour Olive Garden chunk in there. Elective Italian food. Jesus, extracurricular Italian food.
Starting point is 01:15:02 I don't want to call it illegitimate. You know what I mean? That's mean. extracurricular italian so olive garden home of the extracurricular italian so uh that's where you take your extracurricular children because you don't like them it's your birthday we're going to the olive garden but i don't like shut up enjoy you to like it. It's a bottomless whatever the fuck you're eating. I don't know. Just eat it. It's $12.95.
Starting point is 01:15:26 I don't care. His next fight, the week before Christmas in 93, is against Art Card. Art Card. Feels like there should be more there. Seven letters. Seven letters total. Defines this man's life. That's beautiful.
Starting point is 01:15:42 My last name is 11. This guy's got seven total. What's his middle name? A. Oh, if imagine if it's something super, super short, there's an S like Ulysses S grant.
Starting point is 01:15:53 It stands for nothing. Oh, you fucking dick. What a dick. Art S card. Well, his first name is probably Arthur. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:00 I fucking better. It better be. Cause if it's art card, he can eat shit. He's an asshole. So this is a round one knockout. I don't uh oliver liked his name either he's like you know what dude no yes a short name this is gonna be a short fight yeah short fight short name i'm furious so uh yeah around 123 and five next fights in england oh surprise they let him in nowadays
Starting point is 01:16:20 they wouldn't let him in with felonies like that. He wouldn't be fighting there, period. February 26, 94, he fights Dan the Businessman Murphy. This is the most honest title. He's like, listen, I'm white. I look pretty nondescript. I'm going to go with the businessman. They're not going to believe the night stalker. They're not going to believe that shit.
Starting point is 01:16:39 Look at me. The savage henchman. It's not happening. I can't sell that. I got to come to the ring in khakis and rip them off like a stripper. Just poof. Think of Batchelor at Farm. It's not happening. I can't sell that. I got to come to the ringing khakis and rip them off like a stripper. Like just poof. Like a bachelor at
Starting point is 01:16:48 farm. Yeah, a pal. He comes in dressed like a Best Buy employee and just poof. I'm the businessman. Dressed like the geek squad.
Starting point is 01:16:55 Yeah. Poof. Poof. It's got a briefcase in it. Takes some oils out of it. He's 41, 12, and 2
Starting point is 01:17:02 the businessman. So he's been taking care of business. But here he gets done the business as uh round one tko here for oliver so oliver gets the win 24 and 5 uh at this point he uh okay he's got a fight coming up with lennox lewis in after this in england lennox lewis at this point is the champion of the world and they're talking about unifying the belts and they want to fight between him and riddick bow so that's the fight everyone wants to see at this point is lennox lewis and riddick bow
Starting point is 01:17:29 did that happen well we'll talk about two two big giant guys i mean those are that's a great fight big old heavyweights man going at it i'm taking bow in that if they're both in their peak i'm taking bow uh just because bow is a good skilled boxer too but i think bow just had a little more that's an elephant fight he had a little more. That's an elephant fight. He had a little more fucking heart, I think. Not that Lewis didn't have heart, but I just feel like Lewis, obviously, anybody that steps in the ring has got a lot of heart,
Starting point is 01:17:52 as Dennis Wise would say on The Wire. But he's a different kind of fighter, I think. Bo had a certain... Lewis had like an... It's almost Olympic, what he was doing. He's a businessman. Yeah, yeah, yeah Lewis had like an... It's almost Olympic. He's a businessman. Yeah. He should be Lennox the businessman Lewis.
Starting point is 01:18:09 He's very strategic. With his proper accent, I'm going to jab you very well for about 12 rounds until those three gentlemen over there tell me that I've won the fight. Enjoy. And then I will go home and have tea. Good luck, sir. Be careful. I hope no injuries befall you or your family.
Starting point is 01:18:24 And then he goes back to his corner and punches you in the face. Sort of a sporting match. Yeah. So while he's in fight training to fight, you know, probably one of the top three fighters in the world at the time, Lennox Lewis, he spends a month in drug rehab. What? Yeah. He's got some drug problems that we'll find out a lot about here coming up.
Starting point is 01:18:42 How long has he been doing this? Oh, since he was about 13. he started and hasn't stopped no he goes out parties and does good likes his coke likes his crack likes his booze likes his shit like that as we'll talk about so he spends a month in drug rehab which is not normal they're not the normal place to go while you're in training for a fight so uh the fight's supposed to happen here on september 24th 94 he's supposed to show up mccall in in england for a uh basically uh he's supposed to do like the publicity rounds that weekend he's supposed to do all the interviews and all that type of shit and he doesn't show up for any of that shit no because he's not talking about his feelings and atoning for past mistakes well you know at this point he's uh about 125 miles away and uh they said and and uh they said quote
Starting point is 01:19:32 king don king says he can't control mccall the guy's in an atomic bomb about ready to explode which he's just basically mccall's not showing up for what he's supposed to do so rather than king going he's being a dick don's like hey he's ready to murder. So rather than King going, he's being a dick. Don's like, hey, he's ready to murder him. That's why. You can't get near him. He'll kill everybody. We need to keep him secluded. He's chained up in a room.
Starting point is 01:19:51 He's an atomic bull. Once we open the gate, we can't put him back in. You know what I'm saying? It's going to be crazy. People are going to be knocking people over. Haven't you read Frankenstein? Take that red shirt off, pal. He's coming.
Starting point is 01:20:04 Have you read Frankenstein? You can't let him out. You can't let the monster out. Once he's out, he's coming i think you're red frankenstein you can't let him out let the monster out once he's out he's out it's over that's what happens so uh but uh uh the one of lewis's people says uh quote this is don's way of sabotaging the promotion if mccall walks out it'll probably be because he finally found out what he's being paid king's getting a two million dollar promotional fee that mother oh yeah king is robbing everybody wow uh lewis out what he's being paid. King's getting a $2 million promotional fee. That motherfucker. Oh, yeah. King is robbing everybody. Wow.
Starting point is 01:20:28 Lewis said that he's fit and confident for the fight. He said about McCall, quote, he's been around a long time. If he was any good, he would have made his mark by now. Ouch. As for King and his underhanded tricks, they don't surprise me or bother me. Very proper that he offered some tea to the man he was speaking with.
Starting point is 01:20:49 He says that this fight Lewis is mad that he has to do this. It's a mandatory title defense. You have to do it every certain amount of time. So he said he's upset that this fight is costing him money, basically. He says, quote, the fight being here takes it out of the hands of Don
Starting point is 01:21:04 King in England. I've watched a few King promotions and they've been pretty shifty. It's probably better to lose a little money than to lose a lot of money through some nefarious means. So he knows Don King.
Starting point is 01:21:15 God, he's poetic. Smart guy. Too smart to be punched in the face all the time. Right. I would venture to say. And he was so handsome, too. Oh, he's a handsome dude.
Starting point is 01:21:22 I bet he looks like shit today, right? He's got to. No? No, he looks great. The brain held intact fucking lennox lewis did not get hit a lot no he did get knocked out a couple times he didn't get hit a lot and uh he seems fine because smoking joe frazier wasn't an ugly man by 1985 he couldn't speak a word yeah i've heard on the uh something to wrestle with bruce pritchard podcast uh they talked about him being there for a promotional thing and them having to film something with joe frazier oh boy and he had to get one line out and basically he couldn't fucking get the line like but he wouldn't quit right they said that we'll we'll figure it out and he was like no i'm gonna get it i'm paid i will do it they're like oh okay i don't have this much jesus christ
Starting point is 01:22:09 so the guy he finally did it but he said it was a it was rough going basically with joe because joe got hit in the head quite a bit oh by muhammad ali yeah it was back in the day standing in front of people and you know just exchanging blows good for lewis he's a handsome man very well spoken smart man lewis says about mccall quote i take all opponents seriously but i realized that the fight people want to see is riddick riddick and i a fight he should have taken a long time ago that's just bad management so he's saying like look i of course i take him seriously he's getting in the ring with boxing gloves on but i don't really take him seriously. I should be fighting the better fighter. He's not Riddick Bowe. Yeah, he's not Riddick Bowe.
Starting point is 01:22:46 Lewis is a 100 to 30 favorite. Wow. So it's fucking heavy. Yeah. Oliver says that none of the top guys would give me a chance, and they should have, but they don't matter anymore because I'm fighting for the title now, and I'm going to grab it from Lewis. He's not as fast as Tyson and some of those other guys i sparred
Starting point is 01:23:05 with back when i worked with tim witherspoon he would have knocked out lewis uh tim witherspoon was a really good fighter in the mid 80s uh so he's saying the guys i used to spar with are better than this motherfucker i ain't afraid of him so september 24th 94 wembley arena lewis is 25 and 0 coming in he's gonna end up 41 2 and 1. Wow. I'll tell you, one of the losses is Hasim Rahman, just a fucking blind right hand that Lewis never saw coming, dropped him one shot, knocked him out. And then he came back the next fight and beat the shit out of Rahman because he had his head in the game.
Starting point is 01:23:37 He saw the punches this time. Yeah. And in this one, this fight, first round's pretty even. Round two, guess who gets caught? Oliver McCall catches Lewis with a fucking beautiful right hand and knocks his ass out. Knocks him out, gets back up, and the ref calls it off, waves it off. Round two, TKO. He's been knocked out in two fights, and one of them is Oliver McCall.
Starting point is 01:24:01 Lost two fights, and one of them is this one. Wow. And beat Mike Tyson, beat every major name in the late 90s and early 2000s that you can think of cleaned up all those legends kind of thing and uh yeah he uh this is uh oliver mccall's coming out so this is a fucking nobody from nowhere that nobody cares about and he's the champion just knocked out he did this is his buster douglas moment like he did the buster douglas and it's crazy i mean people are shocked by this shit he says quote i remember a lot about winning it one of the things i remember most is me and my family playing cards the night before the fight don king came into the room and said you all get out of here and let my fighter get some sleep there was
Starting point is 01:24:38 a difference in london and i was used to being up late at night i told john don you just get me that car you promised me i'm winning that title tomorrow. Apparently he promised him a car in addition to money. He said, I weighed 231 and one quarter pounds. I was in great condition. He said, quote, well, I felt I was going to win that fight off the sparring, off the condition I was
Starting point is 01:24:58 in, and I was sparring with Tony TNT Tucker, who went the distance with Lennox Lewis. He said, in the way I was boxing him, I just knew that Lennox couldn't last and so tony tucker he came to and worked with me in the boxing we had i had the confidence that it was just a matter of time as soon as i hit lennox he i knew he was going to go uh so he's the heavyweight champion of the world unreal look at this guy out of nowhere with his half-assed record never grace that's it that's definitely grace he's the heavyweight champ of the world.
Starting point is 01:25:25 We're going to call Grace on this. How much higher can you go? Not very. You can go a lot lower, though. Oh, you betcha. Oh, this is a... He's on a slip and slide right now after this. He has another good year, though.
Starting point is 01:25:37 April 8th, 95, Caesars Palace in Vegas. He fights Larry Holmes, who's 61 and 4 coming in. I mean, he's been around. He's fought everybody, Larry Holmes. He was champ for like seven years at one point. Bad dude. Holmes gets cut under his eye in the ninth round, and he keeps it for the rest of the fight.
Starting point is 01:25:54 They never stop it for the cut, but it's a unanimous decision win for McCall here. He said about Holmes, quote, Holmes showed me a lot of courage, but I had the better jab jab and that was the difference. So that was that. September 2nd, 1995, he goes to Wembley again over in London to fight Frank Bruno, who's 39 and four. He's a 40 and five career fighter.
Starting point is 01:26:18 So this was kind of the end of it for him. And this fight, for some reason, goes the distance and they end up judging it unanimously for bruno oh no and uh mccall loses this fight which was completely unexpected for him so uh he's a little upset he's 26 and 6 now after that okay that was september 2nd yeah now september 95 september 22nd he has quite a night. Okay. Three weeks later. Quite a fucking night. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:47 All right. Let's get into this. This is a police record version of it here. His version here. Okay. Well, some of these facts are indisputable. He and his wife came from Vegas to Kansas City on a flight. That definitely happened. They were fighting on the flight and fighting
Starting point is 01:27:05 during the whole trip which is a nightmare and after they land in kansas city which a is not fun no kansas city is not a place where you land and you go oh look at the skyline it's about time you're like is there anything here when you land you're like is this is this is there stuff here right there's this like is this like a like kansas right? Is this like Kansas City West or something I don't know about? It's like 100 miles away from Kansas City or Kansas City East. Some shit. How does this work exactly? Is that a Missouri or Kansas flag?
Starting point is 01:27:35 Yeah, what are we doing? Where are we? That was the weird thing, too. So after he lands in Kansas City, he decides to take a bus, a Greyhound bus. That's how pissed he is at his wife. to st louis we drove that that's ugly can you imagine that on a greyhound no not fun it's bad enough in a jeep what were we in i don't even remember what we rented whatever the hell they gave us but piece of shit car it's probably an ultimate something yeah we got a lot of yeah we got a lot of altimus some piece of crap that i can't fit in the front seat of so
Starting point is 01:28:05 they're driving in a greyhound instead here uh now think about what he's doing too he's not the way he used to be he's the he was the heavyweight champ of the world till three weeks ago he's made big money his last three fights like this is this is crazy the heavyweight champion of the world is sitting next to somebody on a grayhound you're like yeah right i was the heavyweight champ till three weeks ago yeah right motherfucker yeah okay yeah that's cool you're delusional i had a gold record like three weeks ago too so but you know i've used all my money now so he at this point uh he arrives at the greyhound bus station downtown st louis late night like 2 a.m gross thursday morning oh my fucking awful man uh he he has about 400 cash and a check
Starting point is 01:28:57 signed by don king for 1.4 million dollars that's what he has that's what he has on him it is the most unconvincing person on earth it's a you just got off a bus a greyhound and you want me to cash that you have a 1,405,238 check on you signed by don king sure so this is crazy shit right so he was extracurricular check i've ever heard he puts his cash and his 1.4 which is a legitimate check for his fight with frank bruno i don't believe it's a real check absolutely his pay what he does with it though rather than keep it in like a folder and he puts it in his sock because that's what you do with 1.4 million dollars you put it in your sock four million four hundred dollars cash in one sock 1.4 million dollars literally that's what he did. That's a wild thing.
Starting point is 01:29:46 He tries to catch a cab from the Greyhound station. He stops a cab driver. Now it's 2 a.m. He's a very large, intimidating man. And he says that he just tells the driver, take me to any hotel. The driver's like, I'm fucking, he pulls away. He's like, I'm not taking it. He's trying to rob me.
Starting point is 01:30:02 He doesn't even have a destination. At least have a fucking front for me just don't point and drive in that direction yeah at least bullshit me or i'm pointed a car and say follow that guy at least that's something just to go take me over that way is a we gonna rob me when we get there which if you're hanging out at the greyhound station at st louis at two in the morning you're expecting some of these people are not. There's some shady characters. That taxi driver is for sure judging. He's been robbed before.
Starting point is 01:30:30 Yeah, he's judging the rest of this ride based on where you're starting from. That's for sure going into the equation. The guy just getting off a bus going, take me to any hotel. You're like, I don't know about that. Fuck out of here. Yeah. So, yeah, he didn't know which hotel he wanted to go to. So the guy said, look, you got to have a destination can't i'm gonna just drive you around i don't trust you
Starting point is 01:30:47 whatever so uh at this point two guys two very helpful good samaritan gentlemen because you find there's places you find good people obviously yeah there's a lot of places you could find good people but the place i look for good people is at the downtown St. Louis Greyhound Station at 2 o'clock on a Thursday morning. That's where the good people are usually. They're kind. They're helpful. It's where they send their welcome squad.
Starting point is 01:31:16 There's just people there with trays of brownies and Rice Krispie treats just welcoming people in. There's only about 40 people, so the chances of you finding one in that 40 that's great is real easy. It's really easy. easy and really 39 of them are going to be very helpful and wonderful people i'm sure so uh instead he uh uh jesus christ this is fucking crazy man i don't even know i don't even know how to fucking they overhear the conversation with the cabbie and they say hey we'll give you a ride we have a car and we're
Starting point is 01:31:45 leaving anyway so we'll give you a ride lifesavers so you know what you know okay now right now this is this is where normal people take yourself out of your brain yeah jimmy and i were sitting here looking at each other like this is crazy it's two o'clock in the morning you're at a greyhound station in a bad area and two complete strangers quote, offered to give you a ride. This shit sounds shady. Okay. Neither of us are literally the heavyweight champion of the world. Think about the, like, we walk down the street.
Starting point is 01:32:19 Like, I'm not a fucking weak person. I can fight and I'm big and shit like that. But I'm not above getting rolled. No. I'm not above getting rolled. I can take a fucking weak person. I can fight and I'm big and shit like that. But I'm not above getting rolled. No, you're not above getting rolled. I can take a punch. I don't wanna. I don't wanna. And it's, you know, it's very, if I see people that are two guys approaching me and they're
Starting point is 01:32:36 like, whatever. And I'm thinking, you know, guard myself. Yeah, I'm outnumbered. This is a problem. He is not thinking that at all. No. He has zero fear of these motherfuckers. That's the thing.
Starting point is 01:32:47 Imagine walking around with that. That's crazy. Your body is a loaded weapon, basically. You approach him. He's like, yeah, go ahead and fucking try me, bitch. I just knocked out Lennox Lewis. Do you understand that shit? Do you know how I've knocked Mike Tyson to the ground?
Starting point is 01:33:06 You are not taking that shit at all. It didn't work for Trevor Burbick, though. It did not. Anyway, but yeah, that's got to be a totally different feeling to be able to walk around knowing that you're that bad of a motherfucker, that you're not afraid of people at the bus station. Right. You're certainly a weapon. Yeah, you're certainly not.
Starting point is 01:33:23 You don't need a bottle. You don't're you're not you don't need a bottle you don't need a stick you don't need a bar get within hand distance because i will knock you silly with pillows on these oh yeah i blacken eyes and cut faces barehanded you got a problem it's gonna be an issue for you and knock out well-spoken englishman what do you got for that so you know uh he said that uh uh they got car. Now, his story to the cops is hilarious because he says that he, quote, got suspicious. This is what he told people. He goes, I started to get suspicious of them after a few minutes of driving. So I just hopped out. And he happened to hop out in the projects where also right by a big crack spot.
Starting point is 01:34:03 Right. Where crack sales begin. That happened to be right where he, quote, got suspicious and hopped out of the car. This is where the story is self-serving and not really all that true at some point here. So he gets out in Cochrane Gardens, which is an area...
Starting point is 01:34:17 Cochrane Gardens? Cochrane. Oh. Yeah, not Cochrane Gardens. Cochrane Gardens, everybody. Come on in. Oh, it's wonderful what a place what a place cock ring gardens it's a very specific clientele they're looking for so uh me uh
Starting point is 01:34:34 cock ring gardens i they they say it's a high crime area and it's it's it's a project it's a project where and he goes to uh this is he apparently is going to a crack area. Sure. And he says moments later, after he got out of the car, three men approached him. Okay, once again, what do you want, motherfucker? Like, come on out. One at a time, all three, stand on each other's shoulders. I don't give a shit.
Starting point is 01:34:59 Come get some of these hands, bitch. Tag team, what do you want? I don't care what you got. But one of them pulls a gun out oh jesus that's an equalizer you kind of got to go okay ah yeah i can't stop though even at that point you better hope you hit him right and you better hope he doesn't get that gun away from you because then he's gonna beat you with it even worse than you were gonna shoot him oh boy uh so he tells police later that the robbers uh this is in the police report him telling the police that these people took his cash and his paycheck from his socks okay so they took his 1.4 million dollar
Starting point is 01:35:30 paycheck and his 400 cash there's nothing you can do with that check well it's useless this is where it gets fucking interesting okay so then they walked away yeah at that point he went he found a security guard the projects will have like the security dudes walking around and fuck to call the cops yeah yeah he asked the security guard uh for help but the guard was like it's three o'clock in the morning in the middle of the project so these guys just robbed me for a 1.4 million dollar check and this guy said man get the fuck out of here fuck out of my face with that nobody robbed you for 1.4 million dollars it was signed by don king he wouldn't call the cops he wouldn't do shit because he didn't believe him he's like man fuck
Starting point is 01:36:10 you so he's like shit so he ran away from security guard tried to find someone else to help him while he's running around looking for help two of the robbers came back to him and confronted him okay the problem here they were laughing they were like why do you have this silly ass check they came back looking for him to confront him they wanted an explanation of why he has a 1.4 million dollar check literally i've never heard of this before they robbed a man got away they were like that's a 1.4 million. This can't be real. Let's go. Let's ask him. We'll find him. We gotta talk to this guy. So they go back
Starting point is 01:36:49 to ask the legitimacy. Freeze, motherfucker! Hey! Is this check real? What? Why you got this check? Why do you have... This is a new thing of crime for me. I've never heard of this before it's incredible
Starting point is 01:37:06 this is like breaking into someone's house at gunpoint stealing their vcr leaving for an hour coming back and going how you set the clock on this mother fucker what it's yours now you figure it out we're taking their tiffany's and coming back and be like this shit real yeah what it looks too nice is this a real fabergé egg this is bullshit right so yeah they wanted an explanation yeah so at this point he just turns and runs from them which is like so he runs away uh he runs away and they chase after him and then the hill music starts playing again it's's fucking ridiculous. We really want to know. Hey, come back. It's at this point that a police officer is driving by and sees two men waving a check in their hand, chasing a large man through the project.
Starting point is 01:37:58 Is this really Don King? Is this Don King? Do you know Don King? Is his hair really like that? Can you introduce us? Come on. He seems funny. So, yeah. uh yeah uh it's a wig this he saw this this is officer julius morales uh he's a boxing fan and recognized oliver mccall and was like
Starting point is 01:38:17 you're what the fuck are you doing here why are you what the fuck is going on here this is not what i expected the former heavyweight champ of the world to be being chased by two men in the project. You guys are trying to pay you and you refuse to take it? What is happening? So they end up. So at that point, the two robbers take off the other direction. So the police end up chasing them down and they do recover the paycheck for $1,5,238 dollars uh and it was signed by don king and everything that is hilarious because i got don king autograph that sounds as that
Starting point is 01:38:52 situation sounds as like a metaphor for his life it's crime is chasing him with a paycheck and he's running away running away from it no leave me alone take this back take it i don't want you why do you have this jesus christ now the problem is he says i don't want to prosecute i don't want to press charges he tells the press i didn't even get robbed now he this is a he called the cops told them they have a full police report the whole thing uh but he says quote uh when the press asked him the next day he goes man i don't even know what you're talking about I love St. Louis what robbery I wasn't robbed that's what he says
Starting point is 01:39:29 how much was he not supposed to be there oh god he's supposed to be in Kansas City with his wife definitely wasn't supposed to be smoking crack in the projects at 4 o'clock 3 o'clock in the morning being puked out into a greyhound Jesus Christ so then he's got to fight still he fights a couple
Starting point is 01:39:45 months later, February 24th, 96. Oleg Moskav, who's a 39 and 7 career fighter. He's 6 and 0 coming in. It's the beginning of his career. This is a round 1 TKO though for Oliver. So 27 and 6. Next he fights James House of Pain Stanton.
Starting point is 01:40:02 Asshole. Jesus Christ. 16 and 1 coming in. Ends up being 17-6. So I'd like to think that Oliver ruined him. This fight stopped in round five. After that, that's March 23rd. April 9th, 96, he's in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. And he is charged with marijuana possession.
Starting point is 01:40:21 He's pulled over. Police found, they found, it's $10 worth of weed. They found a dime bag in his car. He was having a decent night. Who cares? Yeah, he's going to go home and fucking smoke a blunt
Starting point is 01:40:32 and relax and watch TV and go to bed. Leave him alone. So I'm not going to, I'm not going to. That's not a danger to society by any stretch. No, leave the guy alone.
Starting point is 01:40:40 That's ridiculous. You know how many times he's been hit in the head? A little weed will calm him down probably. It's good for him. So July 26th, 1996, 1996, he's ridiculous. You know how many times he's been hit in the head? A little weed will calm him down, probably. It's good for him. So July 26, 1996. He's in Chicago.
Starting point is 01:40:50 Now, he's driving a 96 bright red Pontiac Grand Am. I don't know why he has that car. He's got money. What are you driving a Pontiac for? It's 3.30 in the afternoon. Broad daylight on a middle of summer July day on Lakeshore there, Lakeshore Drive. He is on a bike path driving his 1996 Pontiac Grand Am the wrong way down a bike path. Isn't every way in a car down a bike path the wrong way?
Starting point is 01:41:20 Yeah, but there's two, and he was even in the wrong one. So he was in every way shape and form incorrect in this way in this thing but either way it's a bike path he's driving under the bean yeah he's like there's two paths he's got one side on tires on each one of them he's like oh it's perfect for a car oh what an asshole uh yeah, there's plainclothes officers there that see him doing this. And, you know, excuse me, sir. Excuse me, dipshit. They asked to see his driver's license.
Starting point is 01:41:51 And he says, I don't have a driver's license. That's why I'm not on the road. Jesus Christ. That's why I'm over here. Just trying to avoid dealer traffic. So I figured there's less cars in here. More bikes, obviously. Oh, so many more.
Starting point is 01:42:03 Less cars. So that's good. Now, he said he doesn't have one. They said, hey, all right, get out of the car. And so he gets out of the car. Then when he gets out of the car, they see on the seat right below him is a plastic bag with crack in it. Of course.
Starting point is 01:42:17 So he's got some crack there. They do an additional search. They find about an eighth of weed, too. So he's going to come up and then go down again. But crack is the bad part. Can't have the crack there that's that's bad uh so he's charged with possession of a controlled substance which is a felony uh weed possession which is a misdemeanor not anymore in illinois though great shit is legal now is that oh it is recreational there uh and driving on park property also because you know you're a fucking moron uh
Starting point is 01:42:44 so funny jesus christ they have all those boulders on the side of that road it's clear And driving on park property also because, you know, you're a fucking moron. So funny. Jesus Christ. They have all those boulders on the side of that road, too. It's clear you're not supposed to. How the fuck did he get in there? It's obvious you're not supposed to be driving there. It's really obvious that this is not a spot for cars. Plus, you're the only one.
Starting point is 01:42:57 Right. The only one's like, well, this is a really great, relaxing, scenic drive. I'm surprised nobody else thought of this. All those lanes over there are backed up. Jesus. Plus, traffic lights and shit. This is he was like father cars traffic now jesus christ so he appears before a circuit judge uh court uh judge here and the uh this is great they the uh judge tells him quote straighten yourself out yeah and he says i will uh his bond is set at
Starting point is 01:43:24 five thousand dollars he pays 500 and gets out police also said at the time he would not give them his age his name age or hometown he just wouldn't tell him shit about i'm just i'm i'm a dude in a red car and a bike path that's all you need to know crack and weed with crack and weed enough said so as far as i'm concerned you won't believe it anyway yeah Yeah, it's not going to matter. I tell lowlifes like terrible people and they wouldn't believe it. No one believes me with a paycheck. No one believes me.
Starting point is 01:43:51 Come on, man. I'm the champ. So August of 1996, he spends time at a North Carolina drug rehab for the month of August there. He likes to go in in the summer. He spends the summers in rehab. I summer in rehab. My summer home is rehab. Not a fan of beaches. No, I go in in the summer. He spends his summers in rehab. I summer in rehab. My summer home is rehab. Not a fan of beaches. No, I don't like the beach. I prefer
Starting point is 01:44:10 a small room. So, Jimmy Adams here, his manager, he said that he's being treated for marijuana and cocaine abuse. Early December 96, he goes to court for one count of possession of a controlled substance and you, you sir may fuck
Starting point is 01:44:26 off again uh 18 months probation for the for the coke for the crack in the car now he is scheduled to fight uh lennox lewis uh in january but that fight is going to be uh not going to happen because a judge stripped on king's right to promote the fight and gave it to another fighter another promoter so now the fight will be in february because lewis took it to court there was a whole big thing about it we won't get into it uh instead uh king promotes is going to promote another match that we don't need to talk about december 15th 1996 oh god this is fucking amazing okay i love when people do we we need a new category for scummies yeah uh craziest hotel lobby behavior for the year because every year we've had a man get shot we had a man get shot we had jim the
Starting point is 01:45:11 anvil night hard use a fire extinguisher as some sort of jet pack to propel himself on a tarzan swing through an office window which was fucking crazy kind of man beat a woman beat a prostitute paint brushing in front of everybody we've had some wild lobby behaviors the lobby is the lobby is where it's a dangerous place to be it's where it happens really you just want you want some entertainment that's the main event one of those couches where you're like who sits in the fucking lobby you sit yourself right down there because something crazy is gonna happen let me tell you something concierge in these places has to have amazing stories. They got to see everything.
Starting point is 01:45:47 Well, the concierge at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Nashville had some stories this night because it's about midnight. Whenever it starts off with we're at a hotel bar at midnight,
Starting point is 01:45:56 bad things are happening. December 15th, 1996. Oliver McCall is in the hotel lobby bar causing a bit of a ruckus. Yeah. He broke a glass on the ground, Paul is in the hotel lobby bar causing a bit of a ruckus. He broke a glass on the ground, threw an ashtray on the ground, and broke it. And then he decided to go at the Christmas tree.
Starting point is 01:46:17 Oh, he's going to beat up the Christmas tree? Every hotel lobby we're ever in in December, you know, is a Christmas tree. It's not a seven-footer like you put in your house or a six-and-a-half-footer, even an eight-footer. It's fucking 20 feet tall. It's in a hotel lobby. It's a big, stupid one. It's big, and it's got big, giant balls on it the size of your head. It's a big, stupid White House Christmas tree.
Starting point is 01:46:40 This man took the Christmas tree and just grabbed it and started fucking taking it around the just throwing it around the lobby swung it around like it was a you know baseball like a baseball bat punching it he threw it basically just went through the thing went after grabbed it again threw it again just basically decided to destroy this fuck this christmas tree fuck your christmas tree he did what clark what clark griswold should have done to his own tree yeah manhandled it instead clark let it kick the shit out of him yeah i don't even know what to say about this he just he he is it a real tree does he have sap all over him that would be great if he's all sappy too either way he broke a
Starting point is 01:47:25 glass in an ashtray and they were like hey dude chill out you can't do that you gotta leave and he was like oh yeah watch this watch this and then he beat the fuck out of your tree you don't like what i do to your ashtray you're gonna hate what i'm about to do to your tree the greatest thing is it's like december 15th they have to get this fucking tree back up by the morning they can't come down and have all the They have to get this fucking tree back up by the morning. They can't come down and have all the guests 30 foot tree strewn about the lobby. That shit has to look nice. People take pictures in front of that shit.
Starting point is 01:47:53 Like you can't just not have your tree up. So, yeah, police arrived to assist him in leaving. They asked him to leave and he instead spat at them and said, no, I don't think so. I'm going to spit at you, shouted abusive language, and then resisted arrest after they finally decided,
Starting point is 01:48:14 what more do you have to do to get taken into custody? The ashtray, the glass, okay, fine. Hey, you leave, and we'll call it a day, and leave an extra 20 on the counter, on the bar. Nashville's reckless. Once the Christmas tree goes down, you're going to jail for leave an extra 20 on the counter on the bar. Nashville's reckless. Once the Christmas tree goes down, you're going to jail for that, I imagine, at least for the night.
Starting point is 01:48:30 Especially in Nashville. Then you spit on a police car, on a police officer. Once you spit anywhere in the direction of a police officer, I feel like you're going to jail at that point. And you should. If you're a cop, if one advantage to having that job is if there's any advantage that's a hard job is when someone spits at you you can then go you motherfucker and put them in handcuffs and take them to a little cage that's an advantage to that job that should be yeah i should be like instant caging you're going yeah it doesn't matter uh so instead uh they finally he after they he
Starting point is 01:49:04 again resists arrests and everything else, they finally take him into custody. He's charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and vandalism for the tree. I was like, what are they going to do? That's a weird. Is there a law? There's some desecration of Christmas. There's probably a desecration of Christmas. You've been charged with Christmas desecration.
Starting point is 01:49:23 You've been charged with being less than reverent to the to the holy jesus now uh this is a serious offense uh i hope your attorney's got everything in order complete lack of mary around here sir he kicked over the nativity scene and that's an aggravator so that's gonna be an extra 20 in the joint for that uh now they ask him how are you gonna fight lennox lewis in like a month and a half when you're you know swinging christmas trees around in a fucking lobby you know just wait i'm gonna beat the shit out of him with a christmas with christmas tree he says quote i will be ready to fight and i will knock lewis out again unfortunately i had a bout of depression about the fight not happening in nashville january 11th he said he went to the
Starting point is 01:50:05 grand opening of the nashville arena it made me distraught but i will overcome this i missed a great opportunity not being able to fight before the great people of nashville in the new arena but i'll be ready february 7th now don king says he's a great guy except when he's smoking crack he says this is a quote from uh our don king's employee a quote from his employee quote oliver is a charming personable guy he sings songs charms the pants off you but once he starts with the pipe forget about it so it's off once the crack pipe comes out so there's the day before the lewis fight he misses the press conference oh again and they're like is he going to show up which obviously uh lewis's promoter says quote look he's fighting for the heavyweight championship for the world he's fighting a guy who he knocked
Starting point is 01:50:50 out the last time he fought and he's making three million dollars if he doesn't show up he really should be committed yeah which makes sense yeah i would say uh then lewis gets up there and says oliver mccall where are you he's talking all sorts of shit. And Don King has an explanation, though. He says he took a misstep in the alcohol division. Uh, what? What does that mean? That's not a sentence. By that, I mean he took a drink. The alcohol division?
Starting point is 01:51:15 What is this? We have in the East bracket, crack. This is the crack bracket. And then the heroin bracket in the alcohol division over in the Western Conference. What the fuck is happening here uh yeah king said quote yeah he's okay he'll be there to fight on february 7th and he'll knock out lennox lewis as promised so that's it uh yeah he says that his uh lewis's manager though says that the the drinking and even his arrest in nashville are all part of his
Starting point is 01:51:45 strategy what he said this is lewis's manager thinks this is all part of mccall's strategy he says quote you laugh but the last time he fought lennox his first four weeks of training he was in rehab before he came across to england so he's just doing the same thing again this is how he gets ready for a fight he gets all crazy yeah and then he comes in and knocks you out trying to lower lennox lewis's expectations of him and then he's going to overwhelm and then that's it so he says uh oliver says saturday going into the fight that he didn't feel emotionally ready for it he said that the anger he always felt toward his opponents wasn't there and he said that was because he'd got undergone a religious conversion in rehab uh so i don't hate i love too hard that's what it is he
Starting point is 01:52:27 says quote when you ask the lord to forgive you you forgive others who have trespassed against you all right they're like so he learns punch that guy what are you talking about no he's turned into like he's catholic yeah he's all jesusy here so february 7th 97 and one of the oddest nights in the history of boxing. This ranks right up there with Tyson biting Holyfield's ear and everything else here. This is for the WBC heavyweight title at the Hilton in Vegas versus Lennox Lewis. First three rounds, just kind of feeling each other out. A couple of heavyweights that have fought before feeling each other out.
Starting point is 01:53:00 Nothing crazy. Fourth round starts. McCall just won't raise his hands won't defend himself what he's not defending himself uh-huh he's literally putting his hands down like at his front and just walking around the charge just walking around and lewis is like kind of hitting him and he's like what do i do he's not okay i guess i'll just keep hitting him i punch him in the face though i'm gonna feel like a dick so he keeps hitting him yeah so it was really weird he wouldn't guard and then he it was really weird he wouldn't
Starting point is 01:53:25 guard and then he'd get hit and he wouldn't hit back and he was just sitting there uh uh it was really weird uh eventually basically uh he stopped throwing punches and every time lewis uh would hit him he'd start getting weirder and weirder he would shake his head then he would turn to the crowd and like make a face after he got hit and then he would like uh it. Then he would turn to the crowd and make a face after he got hit. What? And then he would like... It was weird. He would do weird... He was pretending to defend himself.
Starting point is 01:53:51 Like, put your dukes up. And then he'd put his hands down again and just... This is 97? This is 97. He was acting super fucking weird. In the fourth round, the round ended, he started to walk around again. They're in the middle of the round rather than sitting on a stool in the corner. He's just walking around in the corner, which boxers generally don't do.
Starting point is 01:54:09 They talk to their corner people, especially in a big fight like this. Get your strategy. So Mills Lane is the referee. You know Mills Lane is a little. He's a little. He's a little son of a bitch. He's this big. Hey, listen.
Starting point is 01:54:19 I've been refereeing boxers since the goddamn 1920s. He refereed the death match match too on mtv the claymation shit i told jack dempsey to lick my balls you understand i ain't afraid of you now tough guy that's that's bills lane though you know i put max smelling in the fucking i put him in i put him listen i rate max smelling is what i'm talking about now i normally i would never rape an individual but it's for hitler now Now, that was, I said, you give that to Hitler now. You give that right to the Fuhrer right in his goddamn face, pal. I was going to say you jammed him in the fucking oven.
Starting point is 01:54:52 No, he raped him. It's better. It's better. For Hitler. Because it's not okay to rape anybody, but if Hitler was alive, I think it would be okay to rape him. If it's to send a message back to him, I'm in. For Hitler?
Starting point is 01:55:03 I mean, one specific case. If you rape Goebbels and send him back to him i'm in for hitler i mean one specific case if you rape gobles and send him back to hitler and let him know that's coming for him i think it's i think that's legal i think the war is different now so mills lane comes in and says is something wrong yeah and uh apparently like he says he doesn't want to come back out for the for the fight and the corner's like get the fuck out there what are you doing dude and to come back out for the fight, and the corner's like, get the fuck out there. What are you doing, dude? And so he comes out of there, and he just, 55 seconds in, he still won't do it.
Starting point is 01:55:33 He still won't do it. Mills Lane says, quote, in the third round, McCall got in close and then seemed frustrated, and then he just backed off and put his arms down. I thought he was playing possum, and then I saw his lips started to quiver, and I thought, my God, is he losing it? I wanted to fix the fight for him but he started crying so i had to stop the fight he started crying he starts fucking bawling in the ring do you remember this no he had to stop the fight mills lane just said what are you doing are you you're fucking are you 12 now did
Starting point is 01:56:00 you what's going on yeah and he just was like wouldn't answer and he was shaking his head and so mills lane just waved the fight off he's like it's fucking over i can't let this giant guy pummel you while you're his job is to protect the fighters he's not allowed you know he will defend himself and that's part you know if whether it's you can't defend yourself because you're hurt or you're having a mental breakdown either way you can't defend yourself so he waves off the fight and mccall just he just sobs in the ring man he stands in the ring on fucking hbo in front of the world and just sobs in the ring for 97 wow it was the craziest fucking shit i've ever seen in my life i can't i can't recall any of this he's standing there he just was losing it man he's wiping his eyes and he's just it was the weirdest fucking thing in the world this is a
Starting point is 01:56:43 bad dude i mean he's not a guy you'd expect to crack and uh i mean mental problems happen to people but you just wouldn't expect it does not in his in his in his past like that you don't expect it he gets robbed and he's like you know he's fine with it so i didn't get robbed i'm cool right you know robbed at gunpoint something that would normally affect somebody but not him he's in a fight for three million dollars too it's so weird weird. In front of the world. Yeah. Nobody's watching as crack dealers are chasing you through the project St. Louis. Everybody's watching this.
Starting point is 01:57:12 And as he was leaving the ring, he said to his people that were with him, he said, quote, I hope you're all happy. You all got what you wanted. Oh. I hope you're all happy. You all got what you wanted. And then he turns to Tony Tucker, who is in who is in his yeah and he's in his corner and he says quote i suppose they'll put me in prison now what no he's just out of his fucking mind he's out of his mind this isn't
Starting point is 01:57:35 illegal this is just fucking weird yeah they said a minute before the the the fight uh they said mccall had told his guy in the corner i want my title i'm fighting for my life here i'm gonna get him i'm gonna you know i'm gonna do it and uh he just didn't uh it was really weird his his manager said uh because they all all the reporters are like what the fuck happened there yeah his manager said that mccall quote definitely was not using drugs uh but he said he was usually high strung when he enters the ring and even he did he leaped up on the ring apron he looks excited mccall always said he sometimes he would cry before fights like in the room like to pump himself up and shit like that but like never obviously in the middle of a fight uh he uh it was weird he he it was just a the fight was non-eventful and uh lewis's
Starting point is 01:58:22 trainer emmanuel stewart who looks like he's from the 60s, guy's great, he says, quote, I've seen guys quit, but I've never seen it to the extent that they let the whole world know they didn't want to fight. Yeah, usually you just kind of go down, you know, take a shot to the gut and go down. Throw a white towel in the ring. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:58:38 That's a weird way to throw a white towel in the ring. Or you say you're hurt or whatever. He just shook his head, acted weird, and weird and cried like that's never happened before uh i guess they they later on uh the the trainer lewis's people stewart and another guy had drinks together and uh manual stewart said quote we were both disgusted george was totally frustrated frustrated he said that a guy in his mental condition shouldn't have been fighting i never realized there were problems before the fight that was news to me uh so that's a obviously a loss here fifth round tko uh 28 and 7 he's never still he never got knocked down he's still never been knocked down ever from by anybody in any amateur pro anything never been knocked off his feet yeah
Starting point is 01:59:19 uh he said because then he the press he he held a he talked to the press. McCall did. He's going to answer questions for this shit? He said, quote, I didn't quit. I came to win. He said that his crying was something that he usually did to get himself in an emotional state. And he said, quote, I just hope they understand and give me the benefit of the doubt that I went in to win the fight. But that referee didn't understand my fight plan. His fight plan was to not defend himself and to cry that's an odd fight i've seen a rope-a-dope and all that but that is i've never seen that's good
Starting point is 01:59:52 acting that's method that's method strategy right there i'm gonna cry then i'm gonna turn into a gecko lizard and cling to the ceiling like what are you talking about so uh yeah this is nuts uh so a little later he he he says quote this is he's talking to the press and he says quote he's at the casino at the las vegas hilton casino and he says quote when you leave here you're going to walk out there and he points toward the casino and he says and pull the arms on those slot machines when i walked through there with my kids on the way over here we stopped at those slot machines and I told them you know what this is this is Satan here he's in there waiting for all of you oh that's what he's telling the cops or the cops the reporters I didn't quit I'm fine the slot machines are Satan for all of you and pointing at them and acting like a fucking lunatic
Starting point is 02:00:39 a psychiatrist evaluated him for almost 90 minutes before the news conference, before they let him have one. The Dr. Lane, Lenora Petty, her name is. They said that apparently she said that she thinks talking to the commissioner, I think his mental state is just fine. He's fine. He went underwent mental and physical examination by everything. He went underwent mental and physical examination by everything. And his three million dollar purse will be held up on the for that examination, though, because if they end up ruling this a no contest, he won't get paid. That's the thing. But if they end up ruling it a loss, then he gets the money.
Starting point is 02:01:17 So eventually they were a little lost. But for a while, for months, it was up in the air. Oh, it was going to be a no contest. And he's just like, they're stealing one point. I'm getting 1.4 million stolen. They're holding up three. I'm fucking up here. So there was it was weird because the day before, like they tried to act like it was it was just him.
Starting point is 02:01:37 You know, it was his strategy. He gave a 40 minute minute explanation during that press conference. He said, my strategy was, and I know it sounds kind of absurd, was kind of a rope-a-dope, which is, you know, let the guy punch himself out, he says. But then he laughed about it. And, yeah, and I guess Lewis tried to get a hold of him that night to talk to him to see if he was okay, because Lennox Lewis, I guess, is a decent guy. And, yeah, they said, his manager said that he's sending the fighter to Nashville to go to rehab, because something's wrong with him, basically.
Starting point is 02:02:10 Oh, yeah. RopaDope is, you're defending yourself. Yeah. This is just, what, cry on a guy? You're not defending yourself, but you're going into the ropes, and you're just covering up and letting him hit his arms. Yeah, you're letting him tie your hands in front of you. You're defending yourself.
Starting point is 02:02:24 Yeah, you're not putting your hands down and going, hit me in the face. Right. And then crying. Muhammad Ali never cried. He never said, listen, I'm going to get George Foreman in there, and I'm going to cry. And then he's going to go, what's wrong with him? And then I'm going to punch him in the face and surprise him. That never happened.
Starting point is 02:02:40 So, Jesus Christ. One of Don King's. You heard of rope-a-dope? Well, this is cry on a guy. Cry-a-dope. Here, I'm going to do it. I'm the dope and I'm crying. So, Don King employee says, quote, the night he ran into the ring, that was a bit of insanity.
Starting point is 02:02:55 I don't know if the general public doesn't look at it as another bit of boxing insanity. Oliver was one of only two guys to stop Lennox. I don't think that should be overlooked. Oliver was part of that generation of guys abusing everything, going on binges. He did things to excess alcohol, drugs, but he was a guy you couldn't keep out of the gym. Certain fighters of a certain age were drinkers.
Starting point is 02:03:14 Then you got a lot of guys who went into the combo platter, drugs and juice. I wondered what Oliver would have achieved if he would have been clean. Don King did what he was supposed to. He put Oliver in a fancy rehab had police detectives guard him so he wouldn't sneak out oliver came straight from rehab and don had detectives with him he'd only leave to train he was under 100 watch no private time
Starting point is 02:03:35 no wonder why he had a fucking meltdown yeah he jesus christ man militant maybe he needed to go out and tie one on maybe that fucking to let loose a little bit here and there. Something. Yeah. Now, what does he think about the whole thing? He says that, quote, I was going through a situation. Well, that's fairly obvious. I feel like I wasn't being treated fairly and I wasn't able to handle the unfairness by certain people that were around me. I got kicked out of one gym because I complained that a stripper was coming in and watching me train. Guess what they'd done? They didn't kick the stripper out they kicked me out he sounds like a homeless person that's
Starting point is 02:04:09 telling you how he just got kicked out of the bus station when you're trying to like you know smoke a cigarette outside somewhere and you're like i don't understand i can't help you i'm sorry and you're just like i'm sorry dude like you don't want to dismiss him he's a human being like i i don't ever want to dismiss crazy people because they're a human being right so they might be trying to tell me something maybe not most of the time not but i don't want to just be like i'm trying to tell you something it's just shit that doesn't make any sense i don't want to be like you're too dirty to listen to like that's not cool i don't know like it might be like hey you know i don't fucking know there's a fucking i'm gonna start crying on them there's a man behind you about to stab you i don't't know. Some shit they might tell you that's useful.
Starting point is 02:04:46 I don't know. So this guy is just ranting and raving like one of the crazy ones, though. It's telling you stories you don't care about. He says, quote, so I went a couple days without training while I looked for a new gym. Just a lot of things going on. Bottom line, I got a lot of things I brought on myself. The situation I was in, I wasn't capable of mentally sustaining the repercussions of everything that was happening. He says, I told the psychologist, I can't handle this. I need to get out of here. If I'm crazy, please let me know. People are playing games with me, real wicked
Starting point is 02:05:14 games. And the psychologist said, no, you're not crazy, but you need to learn to get past this. You've got to be strong. I don't think that's good psychological advice no uh i told him uh if they keep playing these games with me there would come a time in the fight when i'd stop fighting and not throw no more punches so this was like a thing to his corner his corner in his mind was playing quote games with him so in the middle of it that's when he stopped because they were playing games with him so he told them i'm not he thought yeah i'm yeah yeah he thought they were so he said i'm not throwing any more punches if they're playing games with him. So he told them, I'm not going to. So he thought. Yeah, he thought they were. So he said, I'm not throwing any more punches if they're playing games with me. That's why he said, you motherfuckers got what you wanted. Because you didn't, you know.
Starting point is 02:05:52 You're not even on my side. Wow. That's wacky. Yeah, that's out there. He didn't say exactly what kind of games. He said, quote, I made arrangements for my mother and brother to come to the fight. They, he's talking about his people, quote, they said, Oliver, if your mama and brother come to the fight, you're going to jail.
Starting point is 02:06:09 That was the last straw. I told my wife and kids, don't look at this fight. Something bad is going to happen. Why don't you tell them if your mama and brother come here, you're going to jail. That doesn't make any sense. He said, it's documented. Really? I already had told my psychologist I was going to do what I did.
Starting point is 02:06:24 He knew. My family knew. I was mad, mad upset my life had been messed up with too much i basically said all right if you're going to play games with me i got something for y'all in the third round lennox hit me with a punch i went to the ropes and looked at his mama rooting him on i thought about my mom and i thought okay you can have this now let me just stop he said quote it hurted me it made me cry oh my god he said hurted he said it hurted me it made me cry which just makes me feel terrible for this man and i kind of want to give him a hug right now i kind of want to be like oh my god oliver brother jesus christ you are fucking crazy what the hell because i feel bad because he obviously can't help it no that's crazy yeah that's just crazy that's mental illness conspiracy but you know what that also is though that's also if you do a shitload of coke it's
Starting point is 02:07:10 you think people close to you are trying to harm you he did pass a pre-fight drug test but for coke that gets out of your system real quick now and so i don't know man it's it's who knows uh either way i feel bad for the guy uh another opinion a shrink that talked to him said it was ringside for the whole thing said it wasn't drug related McCall had a nervous breakdown the mind fragments falls to pieces the mind fragments it falls to pieces it can often be
Starting point is 02:07:36 drug induced but it doesn't have to be in today's drug world we always point first to drugs as the cause especially when it's the guy's a crackhead you know it can be stress anxiety or many other causes it was an emotional breakdown i observed all the symptoms firsthand he walked around the ring he ignored his corner his eyes had a glazed look as if he were in a dissociative state as if he weren't there at all detached that indicates a breakdown this was someone clearly in mental trouble people have breakdowns all over the country every day what
Starting point is 02:08:02 made this so unusual was that it happened in front of 5,000 people and on HBO, which is true. He said with his denial at the press conference, it could be difficult for this man to get the help he needs. He needs a long-term treatment program. He can train if it's therapeutic for him, but he shouldn't make an application for a fight for at least a year, which he definitely will fight before that. So August of 1997. It's August. What do we do in August, Jimmy? We swim.
Starting point is 02:08:29 We go to drug rehab. Yeah. Obviously. It's summer. That's where you go. It's summer. You go to rehab. So he goes to drug rehab, and he's in drug rehab trying to figure out how he fucked his
Starting point is 02:08:39 life up so bad. Just crying. I was the heavyweight champion of the world. He's crying, and he doesn't know if boxing, because now he doesn't know if his career is ruined. Is anybody going to ever give me another chance? Now, on one hand, he's interesting to book because he's a spectacle and people are going to want to see it. But on the other hand, they're also maybe not going to want to buy a pay-per-view involving a guy who might quit in the middle of it and start crying or whatever. A guy who's not mentally stable. A guy whose strategy is blubber on a sucker yeah they just
Starting point is 02:09:09 stop and get their fucking thing called so uh it's crazy he's sitting in there he's wondering what the fuck he's gonna do with himself and then the solution finds him the solution finds him one day he walks into what he thinks is a group session and there's just one person sitting in the room oh boy and it's vince mcmahon chairman and ceo of the wwe and he says how is it you've come to arrive here i first of all i love the the emotion. I love it. I love it. I'll tell you right now. Tears are good. Oh, it's amazing. I have an idea. Oh, hear me out. Listen to this. You come in there,
Starting point is 02:09:54 alright? You come in. You're an atomic bull. You're a bull. We'll put some green powder in your nose and you can blow nose puffs of green smoke because you're the atomic bull. You get in the ring.
Starting point is 02:10:08 You viciously beat a man within an inch of his life. You beat him, and you pummel him, and you hit him with your main weapon, your big right hand. You hit him. You just pummel him. Just a heap and pile of sweat and blood on the ground and pile. And you stand over him. And you're going to finish him off.
Starting point is 02:10:28 And you got the big right hand. And you're about to come down one more time with that big right hand. And then you can't do it. And you cry. You start crying. You blubber on a brother. You start. The tears, they flow from your eyes.
Starting point is 02:10:43 They flow. This man, he's vanquished. And and you don't even care you're crying you're trying to look toward the heavens you say why must i do these things my hands why you're a natural you're a big tough and batshit crazy i love it you're to be a star. Poof. And a poof of 1099s. Little tiny pieces of razor blade. He disappears. What the fuck happened? 1099s. Poor wrestlers.
Starting point is 02:11:17 Jesus Christ. That was one of my favorite Vince's ever. That's a great time for him. It was just a good situation for him. Vanquished, and you're just crying on him. And you cry. So a month later, he's out of rehab. His wife takes out an emergency custody order against him, and he is forcefully taken to a mental hospital.
Starting point is 02:11:41 mental hospital. Documents say that he presented an imminent danger to himself and or others as a result of mental illness and is so seriously ill that he's unable to care for himself. That's the official language. He's picked up in Martinsville, West Virginia and taken to a facility there. He's evaluated by doctors and a doctor testified at a hearing that said, you know, to see if they can hold him or not. And the doctor said, oh yes, I file him under the bat shit department. He said he's
Starting point is 02:12:12 mentally ill. He needs hospitalization. He needs to be looked over. So he's sent to Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Danville, Virginia down there. So obviously he should take some time off and get his head together. Yeah. November 4th, 97, he fights again. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 02:12:26 A couple months later, he fights Brian B-52 Yates, who's an 11-45 fighter coming in. He'll end up 13-86. So not a good 2-41 for the rest of the way for him. TKO in round eight for Oliver, so he still wins, 29-7. Then in Nashville, he fights Mike DeVito, gets a round two knockout. Then he fights in Nashville again. He fights Mike Ackley, who looks like Steve Balboni, the baseball player.
Starting point is 02:12:53 He's Homer Simpson bald with a mustache. He's a very odd-looking boxer. KO win over Homer. 31-7. Then he fights Abdul Muhaymin, who was born Tom Stevenson. Yeah, of course.
Starting point is 02:13:07 Which is a lot easier for me to pronounce. Is my name Clay? I'm a call him Clay. God damn it. This is America. Man wants to be called Muhammad Ali.
Starting point is 02:13:20 God damn it. You call the man Muhammad Ali. Unanimous decision over Muhammad Ali or Abdul Mahi, Tom Stevenson. 32-7. Okay. Then he fights Samson Cohen. Round one knockout there.
Starting point is 02:13:35 September 25th, 99. He's at the Bassett High School in Bassett, Virginia. Yeah. Fighting. That sounds great. Down from Wembley Stadium. His two daughters play on the girls basketball team there that's why he took the fight i swear to god oh my god uh yeah he fights uh
Starting point is 02:13:51 samuel cohen in the second round cohen fell through the ropes and hit his shoulder on a ring site side table and was too injured to continue he fell out of the ring and hurt his shoulder so what's his name no samuel cohen yeah uh no contest small jewish man he's a very tiny man he's not even a heavyweight i don't know why he was in the ring he was 140 pounder he was just putting the ropes together yeah and he got in there just started oh no please don't hit me i just work here oliver's like you motherfucker i'll hit you he started crying he's like oh no he's crying and he's huge. He's doing his saba song. Oh, no. Jesus Christ. Oh, man.
Starting point is 02:14:28 So in those situations, Cohen had five minutes to return to the ring, but couldn't. That's like even if you get a real bad ball shot, they give you five minutes to recover. And if you can't recover, it's a no contest. That's how they do it. Is that what that is? Yeah, yeah, yeah. You get five minutes to recover. Five minutes to recover from that.
Starting point is 02:14:42 From anything that happens to you, you get five minutes to recover, and then it's a no contest. And if you can't, then it's just waived? Yeah, because then nobody's warm anymore. It becomes dangerous or whatever. He says, McCall says, I'm definitely disappointed with the way it ended, but I found out anything can happen in boxing. The main thing is that I got a couple rounds in. By the way, he's about 250 right now.
Starting point is 02:15:02 He's a little heavy. Yeah, he said that was not Al Oliver McCall at his best. Next, he fights Will the Hammer Hinton and hammers him in one round, 34-7. Next, he has a fight in Florida, beats that guy in one round, 35, and Brick the Bomber Lanhart, 35-7. Fights Marcus McIntyre in Mississippi on May 25th. Yeah. Wow. That's a lot of M's.
Starting point is 02:15:26 He's an 18-2 guy. Knocks him out in round three. He's at the Paris in Vegas in 2000. On August 11th, he fights Cedric Big Buck Fields. This fight goes the distance for a split decision win for Oliver. Next, September 29, 2001, TKO's Matt Green in one round. Next, September 29, 2001, TKO's Matt Green in one round. November 17, 2001, he is at Mandalay Bay, and he's ready to go. He's fighting Henry Akinwande, who is 41-1 coming in.
Starting point is 02:15:56 He said, I trained five weeks for this fight, and I'm ready. They told me to warm up, but I didn't because it doesn't matter. I want to fight, and I'm ready to go. Knocks him out in the 10th round, Oliver does. So he gets the win. He gets the win because the corner was telling him he's losing scorecards, and he said, I told my corner the cards didn't matter. I was going to knock him out.
Starting point is 02:16:15 When he went down, I knew he wasn't going to get back up. So he said, quote, now I'm going to go back and continue my drug counseling. That was his last line of it. He is ready to fight again, though. He says, even if he never fights again, his place in history is secure. He said, I'm in the record books. He said, just like people who look back on the Jack Johnsons and Dempsey's and Marciano's, I'm right there now.
Starting point is 02:16:36 Who was Oliver McCall? They'll look back and say, hey, he was the champion. He was the guy that cried. He's the guy that cried. We can never take away someone was the heavyweight champ of the world at one point you can never take that away there aren't many of them no i mean i've never been the heavyweight champ of the world me neither no it's tough i also never cried in a boxing never either but i guarantee you if i ever got in a boxing ring you probably cry you probably end up crying at the end of it yeah that's why you don't get in the ring that's
Starting point is 02:17:02 right because i know the end yeah listen this is to end in tears and sadness for all of us. April 2003, he fights Dennis McKinney, third round TKO. September 25, 2004, he's at the, that's a pretty good layoff there, about a year and a half. He's at the Fire Lake Casino in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where everything happens, fighting Vernon Thunder Woodward, TKO in round three. He fights Madison Square Garden in November of 2004 versus DeVarill Touch of Sleep Williamson, who we've talked about him before.
Starting point is 02:17:34 He's 20 and three coming in. This goes the distance, and it's a unanimous decision loss for Oliver here, 41 and eight. But he says he's good now. He's good. He says drugs are under control. He said can't promise they're gone. He says you never want to go back to those days, but you know nothing's guaranteed. It's day to day.
Starting point is 02:17:56 You just hope those parts of your life stay in your past. So he says that you surround yourself with people who you think are looking out for your best interests, and then when things get bad, you need their help. It turns out the only person they're looking out for is themselves. That's true. So he's just learning a lesson that a lot of athletes learned, where you have entourages of people who don't give a shit about you, which a lot of people have learned that.
Starting point is 02:18:18 A lot of hangers-on. A lot of them. February 2005 in D.C., he fights Marian Wilson, who has three nicknames, Moe, Jackhammer, and The Creep the creep why those two i don't know mo because he's marion jackhammer he's a boxer the creep pick one is kind of creepy because he looks in women's windows at night i don't know i don't know yeah well either way you put your head under the fucking uh fitting room are you weird something hey what are you doing in there hey i'm the creep well he's 12 12 and 38 as a boxer so i hope he's a better pervert than he is a boxer hope he's a more successful sex pervert than he
Starting point is 02:18:51 is a boxer uh this fight goes six rounds and uh oliver wins he's 42 and 8 uh in april of that year he fights cornelius ellis which is a lot of l's and e's and i's and S's in there. This is a unanimous decision win. Next, he fights in 2005 versus Kelvin Hale, a 14-4 fighter. He ends up 14-5 because it's his last fight. Unanimous decision win for Oliver, 44-8. Then he fights, wow, Presmoslaw Salida. Holy shit. In Chicago. And TKO's him in the fourth round.
Starting point is 02:19:23 Thank God we didn't have to talk more about that fight, because I don't want to pronounce that name again. October 2005, he's in Dusseldorf, fighting Juan Carlos the Black Panther Gomez over in Germany. Juan Carlos the Black Panther. The Black Panther Gomez. He's a 39-1 fighter coming in. Where's Dusseldorf?
Starting point is 02:19:44 Germany. Is it? Yeah, it's Germany. They've got to change the name of that. It's pretty funny-1 fighter coming in. Where's Dusseldorf? Germany. Is it? Yeah, it's Germany. They gotta change the name of that. It's pretty funny. That sounds like a Dr. Seuss city. I'm sure it's translated much better. I'm sure in German it sounds much nicer. Dusseldorf, it sounds like a fucking Harry Potter town. It kind of
Starting point is 02:20:00 does, yeah. I'm going to Dusseldorf. It sounds like you'd get a snow globe and like, this is the town of Dusseldorf. And it's got like, instead ofdorf it sounds like you get a snow globe and like this is the town of dusseldorf and it's got like instead of snow it's like little bones and shit like whoville january 2006 uh he is he is hanging out at a public he's hanging out in the projects basically in nashville at the projects in nash Nashville, officers asked him if he lived in the area and he says he didn't and there's no trespassing signs everywhere
Starting point is 02:20:30 and they told him that he had to leave if he didn't live there and he said that, quote, I'm Oliver McCall, ex-heavyweight champion of the world. And the police said, you know what else you are? You're under arrest.
Starting point is 02:20:42 Literally, that's how it went. He said, I don't have to leave. I'm Oliver McCall, ex-heavyweight champ of the world. They went, you're under arrest. Literally, that's how it went. He said, I don't have to leave. I'm Oliver McCall, ex-heavyweight champ of the world. They went, you're actually under arrest now, too. So you got that two things going for you. Now you have a belt and a bracelet. Enjoy. And a pair of bracelets.
Starting point is 02:20:54 Have fun. They said he's under arrest. He replied, no. Uh-oh. And then took off running. Uh-oh. Which, can't do that. No.
Starting point is 02:21:02 No. You can't just say no. And you're out of shape now. Not a question, first of all. You can't do no no you can't just say no and you're out of shape now not a question first of all the cops uh well what they did do they said he's a big guy let's tase him twice oh no so they had to tase him twice to get him under control uh because he was pretty pissy i would assume uh in his possession he has a crack pipe and a five dollar bill folded up and inside of it, crack. More crack. Yeah. He then, they pulled him away where he then spat at an officer and threatened to kill him. That's his move.
Starting point is 02:21:33 And he threatened to kill him. So when your cans are cuffed, that's why they spit, I think, because they have no other recourse. As soon as you let these go, I'm going to kill you. That's the only thing that you can get away from you is spit at that point. So, hi, I'm Oliver McCall, all ex-champ currently in possession of a crack pipe he's held on 299 000 bond wow which is a lot for fucking uh five dollar bills worth of crack they really don't like him wow uh well he's got a huge record too criminal trespass resisting arrest assaulting police officers threatening to kill a officer, and being a fugitive from justice on other charges in Virginia because he violated his probation over there.
Starting point is 02:22:09 You know, these things. They hold him for a while. That happened in January. He doesn't get out of jail until May. Oh, fuck, five months. Five months they hold him. Five months in Nashville. May 8, 2006, he gets out.
Starting point is 02:22:21 May 27, he has a fight. He's been in fucking prison. He has a fight three weeks later. That is bonkers. He fights Wallace McDaniel, who makes me think of Wahoo McDaniel, the wrestler, who's a 7-12 fighter and knocks him out in the third round. Oliver wins that fight somehow. June 30th, he's at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Florida. He fights Kenny the Raven Craven.
Starting point is 02:22:42 And TKO in round one. Good fucking idiot.ember 9 2006 he fights daryl doing damage wilson they're just running out of nicknames now uh tko in round four 48 and eight for mccall december 9 2006 seminal hard rock he wins a fight knocks a guy out in seven rounds 49 and eight springfield massachusetts in fe in February of 2007. Marion Wilson again. Jack Hammer, Creep, Moe, the Creep. You know, that guy. You know, the Creep.
Starting point is 02:23:10 I know that guy. Unanimous decision win for, that's his 50th win for McCall. 50-8. Wow. June 16, 2007, he's in Ankara, Turkey. He fights Sinan Samil. Yeah. Sinan Samil Sam, the Bull from Bosporus.
Starting point is 02:23:28 That's his nickname so it's the atomic bull bull versus the bull from bus porus who i don't know where that is he's 27 and three in his career here it's a unanimous decision win for mccall 2007 in september uh he is arrested for possession of crack yeah again uh i believe this one is in nashville again he loves crack he likes crack a lot hates christmas trees but loves crack uh october 2007 in germany again he fights juan carlos gomez again uh there and uh unanimous decision loss so 51 and 9 his son elijah by the way graduates from high school and wanted to take up boxing, but his dad told him not to in high school. He said, quote, this is Elijah talking. It was something I really wanted to do coming out of high school, but my dad, he told me he'd rather me play football for a year, try that out, see if I liked it.
Starting point is 02:24:17 So he ended up walking on to James Madison University's football team in 2006 as a freshman. I was a walk-on there. And he said, I tried that out, but it was still in the back of my mind that I wanted to box and pursue a career as a professional fighter. So I just went ahead and took a chance. His son is a fucking specimen when you see him. You're like, holy shit. That guy looks like a bodybuilder. Holy fuck, dude.
Starting point is 02:24:40 Super impressive. He's an impressive looking dude. He looks like a bodybuilder. He looks like a professional wrestler on the juice and shit. You like him like his dad likes him. He's an impressive looking dude. He looks like a bodybuilder. He looks like a professional wrestler on the juice and shit. You like him like his dad likes him. He's a fucking athlete this guy. He can go play football or play boxing or box. That's
Starting point is 02:24:55 how good of an athlete he is. He said that he left the football team and moved to Florida to train with his father instead. He said that he never tries to distance himself from his father. He's been train with his father. Oh, instead, he said that he never tried to tries to distance himself from his father. He's been training with his father ever since he started wanting to box. I said he looks up to him. He said he's a role model to me and everything things to do and things not to do.
Starting point is 02:25:17 Yeah, smart. He's right. Yeah. He said when I did something wrong, he'd always come and correct me. He would take me aside and point things out to correct me to to correct me to make the next step and be a contender and hopefully a future world champion uh so he said uh he doesn't freak out like his dad before fights he likes to take it easy he goes ain't no need to punch walls i punch the person in front of me i don't see how people get all pumped up to me it's
Starting point is 02:25:40 all fake you can't go in the ring with any fears as far as fears go when i step in there there's no fears so there you go uh so uh june 21st 2008 elijah makes his boxing debut at the seminal hard rock and uh he fights darian moss who's oh and one coming in and oh and three in his career and uh young elijah gets a first round tko on him he also fights in january and wins by tko fights again in march and as a draw and then finally uh it comes up here they get to fight on the same card may 22nd 2009 father and son on the same card which is weird as shit that's weird yeah yeah that shouldn't happen has that ever happened since i don't know about since but i think it's happened before. It's at the Orleans Casino in Vegas. Not a good one.
Starting point is 02:26:26 No, that's a real bad one. Yeah, Oliver's fighting John Hoppa Hopate. Jesus. He's 11-2. It's a second round TKO. Also on that card, Elijah fights Chad Davis, a 1-2 fighter, and gets a first round knockout. So they both win on the same day. Now, he says he's ready for his next fight, Oliver is.
Starting point is 02:26:45 He says, the Lord is on my side. Oh, no. He said, no problem. I've taken the mockery from the world. But as the word says, if they hated me, they're going to hate you, too. I give all the glory to God. He's helped me battle my demons and my past and steered me down the right path. I'm not really leery of nothing.
Starting point is 02:27:04 The only thing about Franklin, it's the fighter, to make it exciting for me is that I think he's got a lot of confidence that he can beat me because of our past sparring sessions. I believe he's going to take risks that he shouldn't take,
Starting point is 02:27:15 and that's when he's going to pay. I'm going to Jesus him right in the face. He says he's proud of his son and everything else, and his son says he's proud of his father. So he fights Frank Lawrence here. Franklin Yaya Lawrence in 2009. Gets a unanimous decision win.
Starting point is 02:27:32 October of 2009, he fights again. Lance Whitaker, who's 6'8". That's a big, tall boxer. Unanimous decision win. These are all going very long. All unanimous decisions. He's set for a title shot in march again yeah this is crazy year 2008 2009 oh my god this is late 2009 2010 will be the this is a 30 38 year
Starting point is 02:27:53 old man yeah this is a guy 38 what is that born in the 60s 65 yeah 65 jesus this is a 40 43 year old man yeah title shot yeah this shot. Who's he fighting? He says he can't wait to do it. He said, I'm enjoying this, man. You know what? I see Michael Jordan came back. Why Brett Favre came back. When you're a champion in any sport, you've still got what it takes to compete with other champions that you see.
Starting point is 02:28:19 It's hard to give it up. Let's not compare yourself to Michael Jordan. You're in your 40s. Calm down, chief. Also, you're not the greatest fucking thing that ever happened in your sport so he said my son makes it easy for me to say i've had enough the day i hang my gloves up i'll put it all into my son so that's his plan february 15 2010 he's got another plan and that plan is to get arrested for possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Starting point is 02:28:46 Yeah. So that's not great. He is arrested, charged with possession, possession of a crack pipe. He's got a lot going on. He's on parole. You know how that all goes. He's 14. His mugshot looks like he's been smoking crack for days.
Starting point is 02:29:00 Damn it. It's not great. His title fight is off now. Yeah. He's scheduled to fight uh later on too he's scheduled to fight zuri lawrence i don't know how that's possible he's scheduled i guess yeah that is possible he would be scheduled to fight zuri lawrence zuri lawrence is uh the guy who because they say here that he was supposed to oh that never mind i'm sorry that was a different guy that was franklin lawrence and then he's supposed to fight uh, never mind, I'm sorry, that was a different guy. That was Franklin Lawrence, and then he's supposed to fight, Jesus Christ,
Starting point is 02:29:27 Zuri Lawrence. Yeah, two different guys, though. Zuri Lawrence, that he was supposed to fight coming up, was the guy my stepmother's father trained Zuri Lawrence forever. That was his guy. He was his manager and trainer. He had him, you know, always boxing in his yard.
Starting point is 02:29:40 That was his guy. He was like a, you know, went to Europe with him all the time to fight and all that kind of shit. So, pretty cool. Anyway, that guy's dead not zuri lawrence my stepmom's father yeah yeah he's very dead now so uh good guy though so uh uh yeah they uh they after he got arrested they kind of called off the fight because they didn't know if you know he'd be around sure because you know uh around around the edges peripherally there's a lot of people that are gonna get fucked over if he doesn't show up yeah things if he gets arrested
Starting point is 02:30:11 again if he's put in jail before then a lot of people's kids eat based on this fight not to mention his kid he's fucking gotta be embarrassed by now because now his kid's out in the open with all this shit and he's got six other kids and his wife and all these fucking people i feel bad for all these people jimmy i really do but not nearly as bad as i feel for oliver mccall an exhibitions assistant at wolverhampton art gallery uh yeah he couldn't do that where is that in uh it's in england he's from the university of birmingham that's not wolverton no uh oliver mccall is a bunch of British guys. Kidding me?
Starting point is 02:30:47 I did find one American, though. Yeah. Oliver McCall, development consultant at SSKB Strata Managers in the greater Brisbane area. That's in Australia. That sounds fucking important.
Starting point is 02:30:57 Oliver McCall, equity derivatives analyst. Okay. What does that mean? With Citibank. Citibank? Equity derivatives analyst. i don't even know what the fuck one of those is it's where so you're smart start it's this is in the belfast
Starting point is 02:31:10 metropolitan area and finally oliver mccall student at thornridge high school in potwin kansas oh you poor bastard potvin whatever the fuck it is i found that too pot something kansas june 15 2010 he's fighting again. He fights Timur Ibrahimov. Jesus Christ. From Uzbekistan. Unanimous decision lost. 54-10. December 7, 2010.
Starting point is 02:31:34 He fights Freys Akendo. It's a split decision win. Then he fights Cedric The Boz Boswell. Very creative. You bastard. Very creative. 2011. They should have to retire these when other people have them. Yeah. LT The Boz Boswell very creative you bastard very creative 2011 they should have to retire these
Starting point is 02:31:46 when other people have them yeah LT the Boz can't have them anymore when people are better than you at whatever they do when they make it famous you don't get to do it and just the Boz
Starting point is 02:31:53 is just more famous than you're going to be you're not going to you could be better than him but not as famous no so unanimous decision lost there
Starting point is 02:31:59 55 and 11 August 20th 2011 at the Houston Athletic Fencing Center yeah so you're boxing where people fencing i guess he fights damien or is it where they like sell fencing i know it's probably it could be just a fencing depot where you can stop and get some chain link on the outside between the chain link and the vinyl bring your truck and pick up some chain link on the way out now come on now he's the best fencing in Houston.
Starting point is 02:32:26 He's a 30 and two fighter. This is a unanimous decision win. So, I mean, he's still winning fights 56 and 11. November 2011, there's a fluff piece on him. Oh, no. ESPN.com. He is fucking good now. He said he's tried to forget about the crack pipe and steer away from mood altering substances.
Starting point is 02:32:43 He wants none of this shit he said i've been off i've been off drugs for almost a year now oh boy oh good for you celebrate he said i'm sitting at my church the first baptist in fort lauderdale i've been doing bible study and surrounding myself with very respectable people that's rubbing off on me he says uh they said well how long can this is gonna last he said i don. It has to be. It's a couple of months so far. I've went six or eight months. I take it one day at a time. The past is the past, but I still got to remember the things that brought me back to the drugs.
Starting point is 02:33:13 He says, I've been waiting for this opportunity for 10 years to be able to get another title shot. Yeah, he's talking about fighting Russians and Uzbekistan and different Soviet bloc guys. He said, you have to bulldog the guys like in a street fight. You have to knock these guys out. If you don't knock them out, they get really relaxed. I'm still fighting. I've been blessed by God and I'm still good at what I do. I can fight at this level and still win.
Starting point is 02:33:39 And when I'm not effective at the elite level, I'll start training and managing. But I believe I can be successful in winning a world title. I'm still at my best. And they said, as good as you were when you were 25. And he says, you haven't seen the best of Oliver McCall. He said in your 40s, in your 40s. He said, I've been out. This is almost 50, by the way.
Starting point is 02:34:00 He said, I've been in and out of drugs and things of that nature. I was never able to manifest the best of me. Right now, I'm drug free. I've got a good team behind me and I think you'll see a better Oliver McCall than at any time in my life.
Starting point is 02:34:11 Problem is, this is the time you're supposed to do drugs. Do drugs now when your body's already fucked up. It's over. Before, keep it pristine
Starting point is 02:34:18 and make your money and then you can afford drugs later. So, he says that he wants to be like George Foreman and be an old man winning the heavyweight title oh my god remember he came back late and won it george foreman uh uh mccall says quote i about being delusional i thank big george foreman that's why he says he's not delusional yeah but
Starting point is 02:34:36 george foreman's got enough money from little barbecue grills that he doesn't have to fight uh yeah well foreman says quote my story's a bit off course. Enough of the George Foreman stuff is what George Foreman says about that. When they asked George Foreman into this. Yeah. They talked about Bernard Hopkins fighting at 46 and, uh, he's fucking his shoulder up in the middle of it. And,
Starting point is 02:34:55 you know, and, uh, losing a fight. And he said, Hopkins was screaming about his shoulder like an old man with rheumatoid arthritis. I might've said to Oliver,
Starting point is 02:35:03 why don't you get a real job? That's what he said. Yeah. So somebody put together my barbecue grills. Yeah. Yeah. That's that's the fucking thing. He also says he thinks Klitschko would beat his ass, beat McCall's ass for him and says
Starting point is 02:35:18 he says, quote, he'd get hammered pretty bad. Old age has nothing to do with it. Even when he was young, he didn't keep in shape which i think that's bullshit and in his heyday though i think he had a puncher's chance against anybody i think he could have beat anybody george foreman didn't keep in shape oh that's what i'm saying in his in his heyday he did but just later on he was fat as fuck yeah i mean he had a better roll over his fucking box in the 70s he was a bad dude his shoulders were way wider than his hips were they oh yeah he's at the end there you look at that fight with ali and in africa fuck dude he
Starting point is 02:35:50 was a big oh dude he was a big he had pecs and shit he was a big imposing motherfucker i don't remember him having pecs ever also had big hair he had a big afro and everything george foreman did big old afro yeah why don't i remember that big afro mustache fucking and a mustache jacked muscles and pecs and he brought his dog over there and they didn't like him because he brought a german shepherd which they've had bad experiences with and they were like we don't like your dog they rooted for ali so 2012 he's fighting in germany uh francisco pianetta who's 25 0 and 1 and uh he beats mccall that's a loss for unanimous decision. Still no knockouts yet, though. You notice that?
Starting point is 02:36:28 December 7, 2012, his son Elijah loses to Andy Ruiz Jr. Just keep that in mind for a minute. May 18, 2013, pushing 50. He fights in Poland. He loses another fight. Unanimous decision. Goes the distance. Also,
Starting point is 02:36:44 Elijah fights on the same card and loses two. Really? It's fucking amazing. Dad and son, did they do it again? They did it again. This time they lose. This time they lose. February 1st, 2014, again in Poland.
Starting point is 02:36:55 He wins a split decision against Marcin Rakowski, who was 12-0 coming into the fight. Makes him 57-13. 2014, he gets a rematch against rakowski and loses a unanimous decision uh so uh now he's fight to he's set to fight uh he's set to fight a guy named jamal woods and oliver mccall didn't show up uh didn't show up for the fight it didn't end up happening uh now the the other guy jamal woods said oliver mccall didn't show to the fight because he was scared at the weigh-in i don't think that maybe he was asleep then he said oliver mccall is a has-been and he didn't pay me for making a 12-hour trip to the fight i have a reputation that is known and i don't back
Starting point is 02:37:33 out from fights i sure don't back down from fights against an old man he's a has-been and it shows that he's not the man he used to be he got scared at the weigh-in and didn't want to fight someone told me he had a mental breakdown but i was also told he had a family emergency. Either way, he didn't want to fight me. He doesn't want none of this. So then this Woods challenges Elijah to come out of, because Elijah ends up hanging it up in 2013. He ends up challenging Elijah. How about that?
Starting point is 02:38:00 His career is going further than his son. This is July 2018 we're talking about. So he's 53, Oliver McCall, and his son is boxed and retired already. He says, quote, so I, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. He said that I come to find out Oliver McCall got on a plane and left. I had a long trip and I'm not getting paid. In this boxing business from now on, I need my payment beforehand. Comedy, man. Fucking comedy. Came all the way all the way here well sorry there's no crowd i don't know
Starting point is 02:38:30 what to tell you nobody sold anything what do you want me to do he got scared and left a legend who knocked out lennox lewis oliver mccall that is a girl move this sob ran from an ass whooping and was shaken and shit at the weigh-in god said for for him not to fight me. He ain't shit, but it has been. Bring your sorry ass son out, Elijah McCall, to take your ass whooping instead. So this guy's a real fucking charmer. Yeah. He's funny though. I'll beat your kid too.
Starting point is 02:38:55 Now the question the reporters had is, how the fuck is a 53-year-old licensed to box? Yeah. And the state of Texas said, he's good. Literally they said, quote, I can confirm Mr. Oliver McCall met all the requirements to be licensed to box. He had at least one hand and a head. It's Texas. Jesus Christ.
Starting point is 02:39:15 He can box here, but he can't drive through here because we will ticket him. We will ticket him. For one mile over. For nothing. Even if he's going down here. And we will lie. They're going to lie. Yeah, they said he meets the statutes.
Starting point is 02:39:26 A Texas doctor cleared him to fight after conducting a physical examination. By the way, do you know how they end those physical examinations? They physical. This is the boxing examination in Texas. They do a physical. And if you pass, they run outside and shoot two guns in a circle while they go around in a circle. All six shots. That means you passed.
Starting point is 02:39:45 That's how you do it. And then the doctor goes back to castrating bulls. And then he goes, I gotta go now. I got other things going on. Now, November 30th, 2018, he fights again. Oh my god. 53, the HEB Tennis Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. He fights Larry Knight,
Starting point is 02:40:01 who is a 3-16-1 fighter. Gets a win. Unanimous decision. 58-14. Jesus, 70-something fights already. May 31, 2019. This fucking year. He doesn't seem like he should be fighting.
Starting point is 02:40:15 He's in Mexico fighting Hugo Lomeli, who's a 21-13-1 fighter. And he knocks him out in the second round. Well, how about that? Oliver wins. He's back. 59-14. He's ready to go. and one fighter and he knocks him out in the second round well how about that oliver wins he's back 59 and 14 he's ready to go oh he's at 59 wins and he's almost 59 years old almost 51 for each age uh august of 2019 now shack is fighting is gonna fight oscar de la joya what in an exhibition fight for charity some charity bullshit it's all bullshit they better take it serious
Starting point is 02:40:44 no it's bullshit obviously you get shack swinging his giant long arms while oscar delahoyer runs away from him punches him in the dick yeah jesus so shaq is sparring with mccall to prepare for it get out of here so yeah he's sparring with mccall uh now september of 2019 just happened he still wants to fight he had a fight scheduled for september 28th in new mexico that never happened uh i don't know why it never happened he says the older i get the better i feel god jesus i just want to fight andy ruiz jr because he knocked about my son he says after he knocked out my boy i jumped in the ring and looked at him and said fight me that was years ago and it never materialized jesus christ But this will be a comeback story for me.
Starting point is 02:41:25 You're almost 60. Enough. This will be the first person in boxing history to avenge the loss of his son and become unified heavyweight champion. Add in your 50s. People will want to see that. Yeah, I'm sure they would. There's a lot of things I'd like to say. They're not possible.
Starting point is 02:41:42 I've never seen a man killed in the ring because that's what's going to happen to this man eventually. Jesus Christ. Yeah, well, he says... If he doesn't knock it off. No, he says, the trails and obstacles I've been through and overcome,
Starting point is 02:41:52 I was able to finish the sport better than when I started. I made sure my daughter came to watch me spar an undefeated heavyweight fighter a couple months ago. I wanted her to see what I could do. She said, Dad, we are McCall's.
Starting point is 02:42:03 You can do this. The people who are close to me care about my well-being but they can't believe what they see he's just too he's just too uh too good he says he wants to be boxing until at least november of 2020 because that'll be his 35th anniversary of becoming a pro that is crazy that is nuts 30 years of 35 boxing yeah well then another five for training for the amateur shit so it'll be 40 years of boxing 35 of pro uh jesus the major major motivation for me is i just love the sport of boxing i want to make history uh son elijah's last fight was in 2013 he had a 12 3 and 1 record can't get enough of Oliver McCall? No, I can't. He's amazing.
Starting point is 02:42:46 Amazon.com has a really cool Oliver McCall signed Everlast boxing glove. It says Oliver McCall Atomic Bull on it, which is pretty cool. $52.14. For a heavyweight boxer's... I think it's a smaller thing, but still it's a little glove. It's signed. But for a heavyweight
Starting point is 02:43:01 boxer's autograph. Yeah, champ. $52 plus free shipping. Not bad on Amazon. And then also they have a bunch glove. It's signed. But for a heavyweight box, it's autographed. Yeah, champ. $52 plus free shipping. Wow. Not bad on Amazon. And then also, they have a bunch of Oliver McCall cards. One of him in 1991. One in 2011. It's like an old, you know, old, chimy guy.
Starting point is 02:43:17 Hey, former champ type guy. And that, my friends, is Oliver goddamn McCall. He's still around. He's still around. He's still looking for fights.
