Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers screening baby sticky seeds with 50 as a puff or kernels in his teeth They're still not one that he won't see Cause Doug loves movies Hey, hey, hey everybody. My name is Doug and I love movies. This is Doug loves movies recording on Sunday July July 21st, 2024. And my alliterative guests today are Brittany Brave, Sam Slevin and Rocky Roberts. Hello, everyone. What's up? Let's meet you all individually and alphabetically by first name.
Starting point is 00:00:47 She first appeared on this program, I think it's been like four years ago in Florida at the improv, and I assume she's in that state right now. It's Brittany Brave. Hey, Brittany. Hola, Doug. I am. I just returned to the great state of Florida to refill on bath salts and try to find pit bull in Miami. So, hola. Happy to be here. Happy New Year.
Starting point is 00:01:16 Yeah, Happy New Year, right? It feels like a new year every time I do bath salts in Florida. So, yeah You know I'm thinking about stopping saying that to my guests around August ish I mean think about it if it's a year you haven't lived through yet. It's still a new year Every that's what I've been trying to tell people, but it's it's very people don't like it It's but I thought it'd be funny to do it all year All the way up to December or something. I Think it's great and that way you could just tell everybody you're like, yeah, I've been messing up the year
Starting point is 00:01:54 So every with the start of a new month, it's a new year again for me. I don't even need y'all I needs a new day. I don't even need a new month. I am happy to say it's a new year It's a new day. I don't even need a new month. I am happy to say it's a new year Okay, so Brittany I have a quick question for you before we introduce the other two guests Have you seen a movie in an actual movie theater? recently No, not not well, what's recently what's recently like this year? Uh No, not yet not now why is that what so why is that not is that a thing you used to do more frequently or have you never been much of a
Starting point is 00:02:35 cinema It's something I used to do more frequently. I've never been a huge movie buff I had a blast on this show a couple years ago with the Orlando improv, but I definitely, from a logistic standpoint and a factual standpoint, bombed it pretty hard. I bombed my non-existent dick off on it. But yeah, I've never been, I think I'm a little more of an at-home movie watcher, leisurely movie watcher, and I think I dive into the other mediums a little more like TV books porn bands You name it. So I don't think I've seen a movie in the theaters yet this year. No, I can't okay
Starting point is 00:03:16 Alright, yeah, you know, I'll explain it a minute like why even asking that question, but let's say hello Thank you for being here. Let's say hello to to Sam the man Levine is back. Hey Sam. Oh, hey, are we going alphabetical by last name? No, but first name I screwed it up. I always Always mess up with with ours and SS for some reason in my alphabet there switch. So it's always It's always tricky, but as long as we're already talking to you yeah sure man hello friend welcome back you of course are ongoing champion you've won the last I think 17 shows in a row and my question to you is do you feel are you jealous of the alliterative names that
Starting point is 00:04:03 you're up against today I'm incredibly jealous of both the alliterative names and anyone who has a name that comes before S in the alphabet wherever that may be. Have you seen a motion picture in a theater recently? Recently, I don't know. I mean, what defines as recent? Are we saying this calendar year? Then yes. Yeah. Yes, I have. know. I mean what defines as recent are we saying this calendar year then yes, yeah. Yes, I have What'd you see? I believe the last one I saw in theaters proper with Civil War Now like at the premiere you went to see it like a regular customer. I went to see it like a regular customer Okay, and
Starting point is 00:04:41 Also joining us today, okay Also joining us today, okay Call me just call me smooth transition And apologize for you know the alphabetical thing is supposed to make it so Sam is last But it didn't work out this time, but it's a first time guest on the show, so I do like introducing you third Everybody it's Rocky Roberts. Hey Rocky what's up man I want you to do your plugs right now because you know at the end of the show who knows who turns it off when we start doing the plugs it's your first time on the show I'd like you have have your plugs right right
Starting point is 00:05:23 away okay cool okay so August 3rd I have a show House Party in the lab at the Hollywood Improv Lab. It's a great, great show. Ron Funches is on this one. Brent Morin, Robbie Hoffman. And then I have a monthly show at the comedy store called Soundcheck. Also, I don't have my next date yet, but that's it. That's cool. You like you're playing both sides of the tracks. Yeah, absolutely Well, it's a pleasure to have you on the show and I have the same question for you that I asked the other guests
Starting point is 00:05:57 Have you been to the movies? Yeah in person. Yes We went and saw a fright night and night of the creeps at the new Beverly like well I go isn't that a cute double bill. Yeah, it was great That is so fun They haven't tried to remake night of the creeps have they no not at all I would hate it it's 280s I think that one's 280 80s. Oh, yeah. No, it's it's really just a time capsule.
Starting point is 00:06:28 It should be left alone. But I'm just saying as far as like exploiting an IP, you know, like taking a title that would get some, you know, nostalgia interest. Yeah. And it's just a fun just creeps is also just a fun thing to call. You know, essentially, I guess they're zombies, right? Yeah, they're basically alien zombies. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So that is a terrific double bill. And that's the sort of thing that gets you to go out to go to the theaters, because that's what I wanted to just bring up briefly is that if you're a fan of Douglas movies, however long you've been
Starting point is 00:07:04 listening to it, I hope you're at least occasionally going out, however long you've been listening to it, I hope you're at least occasionally going out and putting down money to see a movie in a theater that's not one of these blockbusters. Because now it's really, this chasm is developing where people are only going to movies like that are in IMAX and that are blockbusters, you know, or ones that they feel are gonna get ruined for them by society,
Starting point is 00:07:25 if they don't see it right away. And, you know, so money's just controlling everything. People have to spend too much to see these movies and too much. There's too much riding on each of these movies. They need to succeed. So it's crazy how much one movie can make in the theaters. And then everyone's saying movie theaters are dead. Yeah. That's because you just need to go see other kinds of movies, but in actual theater. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:07:53 That being said, we're going to see twisters in IMAX tonight. Yeah. Well, I mean, I'm happy people are doing that, because that's what's keeping the movie business alive at all. And screens getting bigger is not, that doesn't make me angry. the Yeah, I would know for sure. Yeah. It would be overwhelming. You know, I saw I saw with Dark Knight Rises came out. I was in like D.C. and they have IMAX there.
Starting point is 00:08:32 That's one of those, you know, space IMAX is where like they know they play, you know, documentaries and stuff. And it's almost like the sphere, you know, it's a rounded ceiling. So the biggest. Yeah, the biggest. Yeah. And so I yeah the biggest yeah, and So I saw Dark Knight Rises in one of those and it was it was too much, but it was still exhilarating at the same time alright, so Just wanted to put that out there and
Starting point is 00:08:57 Before we play some games today. I would like each one of you and this is this has worked out perfectly because I Want you to recommend a movie? like each one of you and this is this has worked out perfectly because I want you to recommend a movie but it sounds like none of you are probably going to necessarily recommend the movie that you most recently saw in the theater so Brittany you're up first from the history of cinema just recommend one movie any movie at all any movie just something you think people would enjoy That you're confident that is a good a good recommendation
Starting point is 00:09:34 I'm kind of torn between an all-time favorite, which is planes trains and automobiles Just because it's my favorite and I I just you know think everybody should see it And then as a single woman in America, I want every woman to watch taken just so they can know how their travels can go south. Right. And that they need, you know, they got to call daddy. Thanks. And to have a sugar daddy right there on the line. Exactly. I think maybe we should be pitching a mashup of those as like a redo. Oh, taken. But they don't know what they're doing. It's a it's a fun road trip adventure trying to find the kidnapped daughter. Yes. Well, if you look at planes, trains, and automobiles,
Starting point is 00:10:12 it feels like Steve Martin was kidnapped that entire time. It's true. I always wanted a remake of planes, trains, and automobiles, but like David Fincher. of planes, trains, and automobiles, but like David Fincher. And in the end, John Candy is just Steve Martin's demons chasing him across the tundra. Imagine watching that at the Sphere. That would be fucked up. Oh my god. OK, so which one do you want?
Starting point is 00:10:46 What was the it was between Blades, Trades, and Hormoz Bill, which comes up every year when I ask people their favorite holiday, you know, Christmas movie, Thanksgiving. Does it really? Yeah. People know people love it. No, I mean, you're right. That's to say that it's I mean, I'm sure there's a lot of people nodding in agreement when you said it's your favorite movie. They're probably like, yes, it is Her favorite movie. So what what was the other one you said and taken just just for duality just for Yeah, optimism and
Starting point is 00:11:17 I'm gonna say this I say I'm not gonna make you choose. How about that? Thank you. Yeah, thank you. I'm writing a book that All right, so let's go to Sam. Nope. I want to be consistently wrong about the alphabet. Let's go to let's go to Rocky. What's your one movie you'd like to recommend? Or apparently some people can recommend to me or Sam. You, Rocky. OK. Only because I saw it this year at the New Beverly also to live, to live or die in L.A. the the the the the
Starting point is 00:12:47 the the the the the the the the
Starting point is 00:13:03 the the classic movie like if you're talking about in a bar with friends or whatever when it comes up like the first thing that comes into your mind about that movie and mine is that it has one of the most spectacular chase sequences ever filmed yeah which free creaking just kept up in his game in that regard and with this one there's a whole sequence which has always been a terrifying concept to me, the car is going the wrong way on a freeway. And they did that in this movie, they shut down a big part like the 110 downtown and must have been a nightmare for Los Angeles when they were shooting this thing. But they basically did a chase where William Peterson's
Starting point is 00:13:44 a nut job. So he's being chased but drives on the highway going the wrong direction. But here's the craziest part about it. William Friedkin filmed it so that since he had the whole freeway closed, could do whatever he want, he made the traffic going in the opposite direction of the cars were going the wrong way to begin with. And William Peterson is going the right way. Yeah, how insane is that?
Starting point is 00:14:10 Yeah, that's nuts. That doesn't it doesn't he shoot wasn't like the French connection he did. He didn't even tell people he was doing a chase sequence or something. I would be surprised. He was kind of a lunatic, but I really I really loved him because he's made like, you know, some of the best movies ever made and most logistically difficult to pull off. When you look at the face of it, almost everything that happens in the exorcist is completely ludicrous and silly. And yet, and yet almost everything. And it was terrifying as all hell when it came out and just so dripping with
Starting point is 00:14:47 Atmospherics that it didn't even deserve it should have just been a schlocky movie, but it was he treated the subject matter So seriously and intensely that man it really rocked Everybody's world he made up for them that came out he made up for the schlock with the guardian I don't know if you guys remember that one Already is that the one with Kutcher and Kastner no no no no no this one was this one was about a tree oh That guardian yeah Okay, so you're not recommending that you're no no no no no and I know they also one of the most
Starting point is 00:15:30 You know I have like filed away in my brain all the movies I've seen and liked that use one musical artist for like most of the soundtrack and Somehow that fucking that band that you know pretty much fizzled out after that but that Wang Chung oh yeah the music their music through the whole movie it just it just fits and works beautifully I read that they they did not read the screenplay or see the film when they recorded the song which makes so much sense.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Yeah, it was just their songs. It was just like songs that they would do and they just like the whole movie. It's wild. Yeah. Doug, are we allowed to talk about the ending of that movie? I don't want to give you any spoilers. That's what I was kind of striving at when I was talking about William Peterson.
Starting point is 00:16:21 But yeah, I'd rather avoid it because we're telling people to watch this movie Okay, and so why tell him out in why tell him right well alright never will come back to that. We'll come back to that Yeah, yeah, we'll circle back in a few months, okay? What's your recommendation Sam and I will immediately tell people how it ends Well Doug before I get to my recommendation, I just I want to I want to give props to well you and then I want to I wrote down some names some people who you know figured out what I was doing for the last two almost two and a half years with my movie recommendations I was having a little bit of fun. He's saying it's insane how many I mean I didn't go back and look at what you've been recommending,
Starting point is 00:17:07 but I just knew that over the last few weeks, it was like hitting a critical mass of like, there's no way Sam likes these movies or has he been watched. I mean, I snuck some real stinkers in in the first group and nobody batted an eye at those. I think probably my biggest leap, Doug, was when we were doing a guest to Hanukkah. You asked me to recommend a holiday movie and it was Circle of Friends. I think that was probably my biggest biggest leap in logic. But anyway, it doesn't even happen in that movie. I do not believe that it does now because it's at school.
Starting point is 00:17:40 So, you know, when movies take place over a school year, they usually do have a Christmas sequence. Yeah. Nevertheless, I want to give a shout out to RyeRye80, Ryan and Dead Air Dennis for not just catching it, but then compiling some cool graphics that they tweeted at me, or Ryan tweeted at me this past week of all 40 titles, the 26 that I got through and the 14 that I rattled off at the very end there. It was super fun and I can't believe I made it as far as I did and well done eagle-eared fans. But for the next one, this is nothing cute.
Starting point is 00:18:23 I'm not trying to build anything on this, but it is a great movie that I was just thinking about the other day, and it's called The Spanish Prisoner. Steve Martin. Yep. Steve Martin, Campbell Scott, the late Ricky Jay, written and directed by David Mamet. It's a late 90eties, very cool, just a classic crime con artist, you know, what's going to happen drama. It's just absolute classic mammoth in my opinion. And it was the, one of the reasons that movie sticks out to me is after Steve Martin did Sergeant Bilko
Starting point is 00:19:04 in the mid nineties, I think it was 96, he stopped acting for a minute. Like he said, I'm not going to keep making movies because I'm not making the kind of movies that I want to make. And I don't think he made another movie for real, for real until 1999's Bowfinger. And he did do The Spanish Prisoner in Between. And I remember when a journalist asked him about that, he just so quickly responded, oh, that wasn't me picking a movie. That was just fun. When David Mamet calls, I say yes.
Starting point is 00:19:37 That's not in my brain me picking a next big project for me. That was absolute icing on the cake. So I don't even factor that in. And, and I think I can see why when, when you watch the movie, how much fun Steve Martin is having. Yeah, I recall him being my favorite aspect of it. Did you mention Rebecca Pigeon? I did not mention Rebecca Pigeon. What about did you mention David Cockatiel? Howard Sparrow. I did not mention.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Great. And he's terrific. Yeah. Anything else you want to add? Uh, no, it's just a great, fun movie. And I think people should watch it and they'll like it. We are back and the first game I'd like to play today is called in memoriam the game Hmm yes We lost a lot of famous peeps rather rapidly over the last week or so It's been a tumultuous week in general
Starting point is 00:23:04 in the news, but then also Just all these Great people have been passing away so this game is going to be a Basically a tribute to the folks that we've lost I'll name a movie and then your job is to tell me which one of these legends that we just lost is in it. Yeah, kind of a morbid idea for a game. But here we go. These are the options. Shannon Doherty, Dr. Ruth, Richard Simmons, Martin Mall.
Starting point is 00:23:40 Oh, boy. Shelly Duvall. You're still going. Or or Bob Newhart. I'm gonna write that down. Bob Newhart. That's like in the last two weeks. the work. Yeah. Right. Is that his only movie? I think maybe might be in some others, but that's the one that whenever people are like, yeah, trying to make a joke about Trump having been in movies, they always bring that one up.
Starting point is 00:24:18 For some reason, that's the one that people talk about the most, probably the biggest successful movie that he was in. I bet she had cameos in a couple maybe Domer movies, but I'll recap all the names you don't have to it's not a memory game trying to figure out who all the options were but Brittany's up first if Brittany doesn't get it right that Sam gets a shot then Rocky and of course on any of these all Three of you could guess wrong because there's
Starting point is 00:24:45 Yeah, wasn't seven names to choose from I could only remember four Say it's how intense that's how intense it was they all got you know people like to say When one celebrity death gets overshadowed by another that they got Farad reference Yeah, Farrah Fawcett and how how she died at the same time as Michael Jackson, but he just eclipsed her so much. So they're saying all these people got ferroed by just, the world in general. Each other, really?
Starting point is 00:25:15 And each other, yeah. It's a real pilot. So, and also we just, I didn't think like, in the chatting portion of the show, we'd have time to talk about all these people and all these people. Oh, they all Were more when I heard that they passed they all gave me that moment of oh, that's too bad You know, I have positive feelings about all of them. So This is my weird tribute to them. So we'll start with
Starting point is 00:25:39 Brittany, who do you think out of all these people Shannon Doherty Dr.. Ruth Richard Simmons Martin Moll? Shelly Duvall of Bob Newhart who do you think was in a motion picture called night shift? Night shift Can I get a recap of the list of people again, okay, or let's could you say say which one you remember? The people that I remember are that Bob I remember you saying Bob Newhart Shannon Doherty Shelley Duvall yeah, you said yeah, you got plenty to choose from Okay Yeah, you said yeah, you got plenty to choose from Okay Shelley Duvall what I don't know that's what I'm gonna
Starting point is 00:26:33 Sure, it's a it's a movie I haven't seen so any guess is as bad as the next one also Shelley Duvall Shelley Duvall is incorrect Sam All right, here's here's what I got I got Shannon Doherty dr. Richard's yeah but you're not next I fucked it up again game within a game dog it's like a memory game on top of movies yeah well if I didn't repeat them back to you but I'll repeat them back to you okay okay not trying to trick anybody but Rocky what's your answer I think you not trying to trick anybody but rocky. What's your answer? I think you are trying to trick people because Shelley Duvall is really close to Shelley long So I think you are trying to trick people. Yeah. Well, I guess I guess maybe that's why
Starting point is 00:27:15 Brittany picked Shelley Duvall I'm gonna say Martin mole That's a terrific guess because I think you have an idea what what this movie is but I will say no more before I say Sam Bring it home. I want to make sure I got it's Shannon Doherty. Dr. Ruth Richard simmon Shelly DeVaul Martin mole Bob Newhart and who's the seventh? Oh That was six. Yeah, that's six. Okay, just six. Oh, okay. Geez. All right Well, if you want to count Donald Trump's ear. I do not now I I also know this movie, but I haven't seen it in ages and
Starting point is 00:27:51 I honestly am at a loss. I know there's a lot of very silly scenes. So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Maybe they snuck Dr. Ruth in there Maybe they diduck Dr. Ruth in there. Maybe they did, but they didn't see, see Brittany. Had anybody, anybody's guess could be wrong. And I think I got my Shelly's confused. I think what Rocky was saying, I think my lawyers got crossed on this one. Um, yeah, I guess that could be it. But I mean, yeah, shell it. Shelly long is
Starting point is 00:28:27 indeed in night shift with Michael Keaton in his breakout role and Henry Winkler in the lead from 1982. And her first time in a on camera and a motion picture, a young Shannon Doherty Wow Yeah, does she have any dialogue? I don't know if she says anything I assume she does because she's you know Given like you know a character name like girl at whatever Must have been a teenager, but I think like yes, she was pretty young she started really young She was on like lots of TV lots of TV guest roles But this was the first movie she was in and she was a voice in a secret of NIM animated
Starting point is 00:29:15 Movie at around that time alright, so Immediately too because I thought it was I thought yeah to her she hadn't yet. Like I didn't realize she started her career that early Yeah, yeah crazy. All right. Well back to you Brittany for the next one Okay, it's a motion picture I'm pretty sure you'll say you've never heard or seen it But it's called F M F M F M Like FM radio yeah
Starting point is 00:29:48 There was basically a movie about FM radio And is it could the same person I have an important question to the same person that we talked about repeat it could yes They could okay yes For this They could yes they could okay yes for this I'm gonna go with Bob Newhart I don't know I'm gonna throw that out there Bob Newhart okay no no terrible guess right not the worst no is one of the six options Rocky wait wait Martin mole was an option, right? He is an option. Yes. Okay. I'm just gonna go with Martin Moll again because of the time of the movie No, it's just mole not mulligan
Starting point is 00:30:40 Yes from 1978 Martin rolls first film role was in FM Congratulations, Rocky. You got that one right. Am I thinking of that one's got Eileen Brennan and Alex Carras and Cleavon Little? Is that the movie I'm thinking of? I think maybe, yeah. Okay. I think Martin Rohl probably has a small role, but it's because at the time he was blowing up because he was in Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and Fernwood tonight. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:31:13 So I think, you know, he just probably popped in for a small thing in it. But it's, you know, 1978, very 70s look at at FM radio. Probably probably like took place at one station or something, maybe even inspired WKRP in Cincinnati into existence possibly Alright, that's just a guess on my part though. Sam. You're up first. Oh boy, which one of these Legendary legends is in the Mel Gibson classic what women want? Ah What women want? Yeah, What Women Want.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Yeah, which one of these people is in that movie? I know it's either going to be Dr. Ruth or Richard Simmons. Why do I keep picking the non-actors, Doug? I don't know. the the the the the the
Starting point is 00:32:33 the the the the the the the the 50 50s go you got it. Oh no Simmons appears as himself in some sort of I don't know I could just imagine him like talking straight like Mel Gibson hallucinating Richard Simmons like talking to him from inside the TV saying you know do the right thing or something.
Starting point is 00:33:00 Yeah I mean who better to know what women want than a flamboyant gay man. You know. Yeah yeah. the the the the These fellas they each have a point, but you gotta go first on this next one Which one of these people do you think was in a movie called hell is for heroes? Makes you not want to be a hero I would think I didn't know that is for heroes. Do you want to hear the names? In a general sense, I would like to think that Dr. Ruth made it to hell and she is a personal hero.
Starting point is 00:33:51 But I'm not going to be against. She is in heaven. Please. She was so good to us, Dr. Ruth. She was. She was. But she'd probably prefer to go to hell because it's a better hang, to be honest. All right, well that I'll give you, but I'm just saying, at least she had the choice. It's an older flick, right? An older-ish-ish. Bob Newhart, just because I feel like, why would Richard Simmons, Dr. Ruth,
Starting point is 00:34:22 I know very little about Shelley Duvall So my guess would be Bob Newhart just finally answer longevity Is that your final answer final answer lock it in from 1962 it was his first movie role the Mrs. Brittany will have it now down to only four options but we start with Rocky. All right. Which one of these peoples was in a movie called Electric Dreams? Ah, Shelley Duvall. the shelly do all the
Starting point is 00:35:30 the the the the it's correct oh my goodness it didn't sound like you were too confident but no of course not but just right answer that's that's the first time that none of the other movies had Shelly Duvall
Starting point is 00:36:00 and you remember Electric Dreams? of course not yeah it was Lenny Von Dolan and Virginia Madsen romance and bud court bud court was his computer that was like, you know a demon got in his computer and Wrecked his life through different because the computer was in love with Virginia Madsen, too So there's like a kind of a love triangle computer was in love with Virginia Madsen too. So there's like a kind of a love triangle with a computer. I can picture the VHS boxes of all of these movies, but I don't know. Yeah. Yeah. No, these are cameos are news to me.
Starting point is 00:36:34 I mean, I've seen some of these movies and I don't remember, but like electric dreams, uh, Dr. Ruth at one point, I think that the computer voice steals her voice to say something to him like, you know Probably something like you've got this small penis All right, so Sam won that game but we've got another game to play He just gets to go first in that one and we will play it right after this break. We'll be right back.
Starting point is 00:37:09 We are back and we are now going to play a game that I call whose tagline is it anyway? Oh, boy. Yes. It's a fun one. A lot harder than that last one where you had six options this one your options are all films ever made Like over 50 movies Doug, but I think there's some good Good I think they've made at least 60 Sam I'll say a tagline from a famous feature film these aren't like little little indies or you know movies nobody's ever heard of, I hope. Sam will be going first. I'll say the tagline, Sam gets the guess if he doesn't get it, we move on to Rocky. If Rocky misses, we go to
Starting point is 00:38:03 Mrs. We go to Brittany and Around and around like we were basically on that last game I Think that's all you need to know Okay, I'd say there's a I wouldn't say focus on there being a theme but there is like a light theme Yeah, okay We're being frustrated at your light theme later Yeah, so you'll be like yeah that theme was so light like just saying they're all movies. That's not a theme
Starting point is 00:38:44 That's that theme was so light. I couldn't even find it. Yeah, yeah, it was a is invisible theme is what I meant to call it alright so Yeah, yeah, it was a is an invisible theme is what I meant to call it. All right so Sam here's the first one. Okay, and You know, unfortunately Exact titles only will be accepted. Oh great. Well, I'm yeah, I always expect that Doug. Yeah Expect does expect it. That's my motto. That's the we're the anti big brother Yeah, this segment is what I'm happy that I spent thousands of dollars on improv lessons Yeah, just make up a title make up a title that sounds like it would fit alright Sam here you go
Starting point is 00:39:23 What movie has the tagline? The multiverse unleashed. Well, obviously. You know, I know what. Comes to mind immediately. Uh-huh. So I'll just that's what I have. So I will say, well, I'm not going to second guess myself in this.
Starting point is 00:39:52 I I have to stick with my gut on on it, because. If I start down the rabbit hole, I'll talk myself into something crazy. So the first thing that popped into my brain was Spider-Man. No way home. That was the first thing that popped into my brain was Spider-Man No Way Home. That was the first poppage. That's that is the multiverse unleashed for sure in my brain. So now I can't wait for you to tell me that it's, you know, AirBud 3 going the distance or whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:40:18 Or I carry Slitter volume seven. It's, but let's I know you're all, you're everybody's joking around, but we all know that the airbud is always unleashed He rolls that's how does it That answer Sam is correct no way home, let me give you the correct sound effect here. Let's here we go You did it. You pulled it. I think we're hearing the sound effect.
Starting point is 00:40:50 You didn't hear it. I don't know. All right. Now we'll go. All right. Well, I didn't post. It's the Rockies turn. You ready, Rock? Yes, do it. I for sure Rock? Yeah, let's do it.
Starting point is 00:41:06 I for sure didn't think that was the movie that. Oh, yeah. What was your guess? I thought it was going to be across the Spider-Verse. Right. Oh, wow. There's Spider-Verse across the Spider-Verse. And what's the other one? Spider-Verse into a cross is the second one. And I was like, that seems like a tagline for a movie where you know, you're playing with the multiverse. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:30 I didn't even think of those. And it's because of my general not appreciating of animated films. That's why they didn't even pop into my limited brain. Yeah. You just went live action. You just live action snob. I am a live action snob, Doug. You know, are you saying I like cartoons, dude? Nope.
Starting point is 00:41:50 He might be. Uh, all right, Rocky. Here's the tagline. Where will you be when it all ends? Question mark. Oh my God. Where will you be when it all ends? where will you be?
Starting point is 00:42:08 where will you be? ahh when it all ends when it all ends this is tricky ahh the day after tomorrow ooh I like it but not the correct answer's not the correct answer.
Starting point is 00:42:26 Britney. I have no idea. So when it all ends, but I have no idea what I'm going to go with. Literally the first thought that popped in my head and it was at an Arby's. I hope I'm in Arby's. What would you oh, I guess it wouldn't be a last meal though you just happen to be it in Arby's Yeah, I just always gotten a good hometown feel and there's one in you know the area of Miami where I grew up and I'm Demented I don't know. That's just where first I couldn't even begin to guess Where what's your?
Starting point is 00:43:07 What's your last meal at Arby's? Whatever whatever's on their affordable menu, I mean where what you're pitching pennies when it's your last meal on earth Yeah, I mean I'm a stand-up comic. It's not like I'm going out and leaving anybody with assets behind, you know, it's you know Realistically, where will I be when it all ends is probably scrolling through Instagram like the rest of us, but um, I Don't know where will I be when it all Oppenheimer I don't think What's that? Yeah, I just said Oppenheimer, but I know it's wrong. I know it's very wrong That's Oppenheimer's where it all started um true. No the place where you'll be
Starting point is 00:43:57 When it all ends Sam Where will you be where will I be when it all ends probably on the toilet Doug? Whatever the least glamorous way to go out is that's what's gonna happen to me Toilet after stop at Arby's yeah, I will say Seeking a friend for the end of the world. Oh, that is a terrific guess But I think that would probably be who will you be with when it all ends I guess I'm saying All right, rocky is your chance to get on the board Okay, where will you be when it all ends? I'm going to go with Avengers Endgame.
Starting point is 00:44:47 Who could guess? Such it like that's the best guess you could make and be wrong. Because that was the tagline for Avengers Infinity War. Oh, wait, how crazy is that that's insane Well, I mean, I don't know if there was a typo but they That's how they decided I think when they say when it all ends they meant that this is the first half of the ending of the whole saga the on this next one are you ready born ready okay the force is calling you just let it in the forces at your door just let it in or if it's the Force is calling you just pick up the phone.
Starting point is 00:46:07 I'm getting I'm getting us something Star Wars one of the Star Wars is my I don't know what what would make you think of Star Wars when you hear the Force is calling you but okay, go on. I don't know why am I the force is strong dude so the force is strong the force is Gravitational I don't know I'm gonna stick with my my you said it's the force is at the door will you let it in I? Mean I might as well. I mean the key clue here is force for sure so what what movie do you think it is? Wow I can I say one of the Star Wars is that an acceptable answer
Starting point is 00:46:54 it's not unfortunately, but but it you know It's It's in it's incorrect if you just say one of the Star Wars Okay Okay, that's okay. It's nothing if you just say one of the Star Wars. OK. That's OK. There's nothing to feel bad about. What I will say is I actually have
Starting point is 00:47:12 seen a decent amount of Star Wars flicks because my dad is a huge fan. But they've never been my favorite. Why would you know the numbers and the subtitles and all of that? You're not a Star Wars nerd yeah I mean even Star Wars nerds must be having a hard time keeping up at this point because there's so much Star Trek product out there but let's go let's go to Sam Levine and see
Starting point is 00:47:36 if he's got it figured out I will say Doug Star Wars episode 7. Damn. The Force Awakens. That is correct. Damn. Yeah, see, Brittany, you figured it out. It was just, you know, all those pesky details that screwed it up. Too many of them. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:48:02 I feel like Sam and I tag-team that one a little bit. No, Sam mostly got it, but. Well, I mean, Doug certainly helped by saying force is the most important thing. Yeah, yeah, dude. Come on. And then come on, come on. And I was like, well, this is Star Wars. Now I'm just sorry. I don't know which one. Yeah. Yeah. I just read the force is really the only clue there.
Starting point is 00:48:19 And she had already picked up on that. I was just trying to, you know, move along the process. But Rocky, you've got to get on the board here dude well yeah mine's gonna be yeah come on look it's gonna be crazy I already know ready yeah nothing on earth could come between them Nothing on earth could come between them. Yeah, I worry about emphasizing the wrong words. Nothing on earth could come between them. Between them.
Starting point is 00:49:00 I know what you're doing. You're trying to help me, but I don't know. Yeah, it's not helping. them. I know what you're doing. You're trying to help me, but I don't know. Yeah, it's not helping. I passengers. Oh, because they're out in space. Yeah. I never, I've never seen that one. I just. Oh, okay. But it's, it's incorrect. Yeah, I figured. It's a bummer that movie. don't see it. I put my wife
Starting point is 00:49:35 It's you know Chris Pratt and J. Law are out in space and With a bunch of other people that are gonna go somewhere and start a new world or some bullshit Or they're just on a very long mission. So they're like hyper sleep or whatever. And for some reason he wakes up and nobody else wakes up. Yep. And then he figures out how to wake up J-Law, but he also knows if he wakes her up, the two of them are just going to run out of air in a couple of years. Oh my God. He's basically the way you describe this, which I have seen more than once once by the way, this is delightful Doug
Starting point is 00:50:07 So he's the this is the basic the the basic idea is that he makes a choice for her that she has not Appreciating that is correct. Yes. Yeah, it's kind of a kind of a blueprint for what is going on in politics right now Is the beam men trying to decide for the women. So that being said, that is incorrect. And Brittany, what movie do you think the tagline is? Nothing on earth could come between them. I actually think I know this or I'm either very wrong, but is it Titanic? It is Titanic.
Starting point is 00:50:43 What? Yes, it turns out there was something that could come between them it's a misleading tag like a space movie I was gonna guess interest what it should be nothing to come between them until one of them is dead except that big floating piece of wood that came between them. Yeah, I think it could come between them except for that pesky life threatening iceberg. How did you know that?
Starting point is 00:51:14 Because I guess one of I'm I'm a romantic. It's romance. It's romantic. Exactly. Wow. I'm very impressed. No, I mean, I, I watched a lot of Titanic growing up and it's, you know, I'm a movie hack because that's one of the only ones that I've definitely seen and indulged in the soundtrack. So I thought so too. I almost got thrown off and I was looking at a, I was thinking about space movies, but then I was like, wait a minute, this is Titanic a hundred percent. and then there's some other time
Starting point is 00:51:45 I think there's another tagline about destiny or life or something. So yeah, I know Earth should not be in the tagline Yeah, no, it doesn't seem like Earth has much to do with it. No other than the expression nothing on earth, you know, yeah But then also there was that movie with Kate Winslet and Idris Elba Called the mountain between them and that mountain did as it turns out the between them like they really Needed to work that out all right So congratulations Brittany you're on the board, but Sam has a chance now to just run away with this thing oh boy damn what movie you think had the tagline nothing can prepare you
Starting point is 00:52:30 for the end nothing I can prepare here you yeah end you have five seconds Avengers endgame you've I'm Five second clocks Is there's no reason to sit around and wait for you to get the right answer I believe I've given some wrong Those weren't worth waiting for either okay, so you either know it or you don't is what I'm saying Rocky I'm just gonna give you one you one more just for the fun of it. What do you think the tagline, what movie is this for? Enter the world. That's the tagline. Yeah. Jesus Christ.
Starting point is 00:53:35 Enter the world. Yeah. Sounds like a tagline for a nursery. Yeah, I don't know. Look who's talking, I guess. No, unfortunately, that's not as a terrific guess, but not the right one. The world that they want you to enter is, of course, the world of that space planet and Avatar, the world of the Pandora the peaceful now the Pandora.
Starting point is 00:54:06 Are you sure that's not air bud? Yeah. It's not. It's not. But the extended universe. But just for your edification, the low grade theme going on there was those are six of the all those movies are amongst the top grossing movies of all time. Oh, OK. Yeah. They're all in the top top tenor. So, Sam, congratulations. You won today. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:54:34 A bit of a shocker for everyone. Well, please do do your promotional duties and go plug yourself. OK, I have five seconds. Of course, you could find me on Cameo, but hey, even more important than that is a feature film called City of Dreams, which I appear in, and it is opening in theaters somewhere August 30th.
Starting point is 00:54:55 So if there is a theater near you, I don't know, you got at least a 50-50 chance. City of Dreams is playing there. It's really intense. It's really important. You should check this movie out. I play a bad guy There it up That's a great plug and you'll be back Soon is ongoing champ. I don't want a firm answer right now, but I'm gonna put it out there
Starting point is 00:55:20 You know and it'll be we'll keep it a secret one way or the other but You know, and it'll be we'll keep it a secret one way or the other but You know Wednesday night those movies it comic-con in San Diego It's gonna be a lot of fun if you can Participate in that Brittany brave Yes, tell us your plugs. What would you like to promote? I'm Brittany brave on Instagram tick-tock. I'm on tour coming to LA in September, Vegas, various parts of Florida, Atlanta.
Starting point is 00:55:53 Come see a show, yeah. Where are you gonna be in LA? I'm doing the lab actually at Hollywood Improv on Friday, September 6th, 730. So should be, should be fun. And then I'm going to hang out there for like two weeks and maybe do San Diego and, and hang around. We should hang dog. I would love that. Right on, right on. I asked about, I knew that you were going to be at the lab at the improv, or at least I thought that's what it was going to be. And that takes us smoothly into Rocky Roberts and his plugs,
Starting point is 00:56:28 because that is where he does shows on the monthly. Tell us about him again, Rocky. Yeah. House party in the lab, August 3rd, and it's a monthly show. So if you can't make that one, there'll always be another. And then I got a monthly show sound check at the Comedy Store. Oh, yeah. Yeah. yeah both places that's right both and but both very fun places to see shows and rocky shows are great so go check those out. This coming Wednesday like I mentioned Sweet Home San Diego gets a Douglas movies taping at the American Comedy Company at 8 p.m. and then next
Starting point is 00:57:06 month in August we're doing a live Douglas movies for the first time at Rooster T. Feathers in Sunnyvale, California. That's on Sunday, August 11th at 420. All of my dates and dates and links are at douglasmovies.com. And it's funny, I had for the first game today, I had like an easy, if it ultimately needed a tiebreaker to really settle who was gonna win, Sam ended up winning before I got to it. But you'll recall there were six names. And the sixth name that we did not get to was Shelley Duvall.
Starting point is 00:57:52 And she is a terrific actress. And I was initially going to put down, her first big movie role was in Robert Altman's Booster McCloud with the aforementioned Bud Court. But no, I wrote down this was going to be the tiebreaker. With those names, I was just going to go, which one of these people was in Popeye? God, I wish I got that one. I'm still saying Dr. Roof. Yeah. But that would have been pretty fun. And so thanks again to Sam Levine, Rocky Roberts, and Brittany Brave.
Starting point is 00:58:28 And I continue the tribute to Shelly Duvall and her being olive oil and Popeye with today's closing line. As always, oh Popeye, oh my hero. Now it's time for Doug to watch another talkie. Heyes of gold is viewing prowess makes him cocky. There's no room in his heart for you cause Doug loves movies!
