Starting point is 00:00:00 Lights are going up, snow is falling down, there's a feeling of goodwill around town. It could only mean one thing, McRib is here. People throwing parties, ugly sweaters everywhere, stockings hung up by the chimney with care. It could only mean one thing McRib is here. At participating McDonald's for a limited time. Doug hates candy wrappers screening baby sticky seeds with 50 Azapap or kernels in his teeth. There's still not one that he won't see,
Starting point is 00:00:40 because Doug loves movies. Hey, hey, hey everybody. My name is Doug and I love movies. This is Doug loves movies recording on Thursday, December 26, boxing day for our friends in Canada. It's also the year 2024. Almost forgot to add that. And we have a very special episode today, a theme episode, if you will. My guests are an old friend of the show, Colt Cabana and new friends.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Filmmakers Adam Rodness and Stu Stone. Hello, everybody. Hello. What's happening? All three of you are involved in a film called Don't Fuck With Ghosts that's on Prime in the US currently and Apple TV in Canada. Let's start talking to each of you individually but in alphabetical order by first name. He co-wrote and co-stars in the aforementioned don't fuck with ghosts. It's Adam Rodness. Hey Adam What's up, Doug? Long time long time listener first time guests. No way you listen He's the guys, you know, no, but for real, like, you know, getting getting Doug with High, I fucking
Starting point is 00:02:05 love that show, dude. This is great. Thanks for having me on. Well, yeah, I'm glad that this one's still going because we don't do getting Doug with High anymore. And, but it's this is chapter two. Sounds like you'd be a great guest on either. But how are you?
Starting point is 00:02:19 How are you at movie trivia? Um, I'm I think I'm I'm fair. I don't want to toot my own horn, but I grew up with my parents being in this crazy business. My parents are wedding singers and entertainers, so they shoved a lot of movies and content in front of my face. So I think I got some knowledge. Oh, okay. So you're not technically like I for a second, I thought you were confessing to being a nepo baby, but you just have been more around non-rich people who encouraged creativity. Yeah, yeah. No, definitely not a nepo baby.
Starting point is 00:02:51 I did this all on my own. But I had the encouragement from my lyrical parents to step into the spotlight. Yeah. You still had a leg up, as they say, because, you know. I had love, I had love That's what I had yeah not like you Well, I know someone Who is pretty good at movie trivia?
Starting point is 00:03:16 Welcome back to Colt cabana. Hey, dude. Hey, I think you're saying oh someone who's good at at love which would be me also That would have been a great segue as well How are you doing dude? Good great to be on I have I've yet to I've only been on a stage show So I've yet to been able to cheat in front of my computer on this show. So this is exciting, right? It is an element that comes into it is that if anybody like takes too long to answer or something or if you hear a suspicious tapping sounds Then you know everybody knows what's up, but I think people are pretty good about
Starting point is 00:03:54 Not cheating. I'll be now as a wrestler as a as a heel wrestler. I'm to cheat I Mean if you ran away with this thing because you were cheating I think I would applaud that. Thank you. You just really have to you have to really get your acting chops in order because you know you have to sound like you don't that you're not sure what the answer is. I mean when you're cheating. This is all about me being in a movie so I would assume my acting chops are pretty good you'd have to ask Stu and Adam though Well, you play with yourself in don't fuck. I mean It don't fuck with ghosts
Starting point is 00:04:33 What's how did that come about like why what how do you figure into the the plot as yourself technically I Technically real name Scott plays colt Cabana who's playing himself. So yes, I am playing the character of Colt Boom Boom Cabana finding ghosts in the middle of Winnipeg, Canada. But yeah, Stu and Adam have been making films forever. Stu's been in the business forever and Stu's been my friend forever. And you know, Stu, whenever he gets a chance,
Starting point is 00:05:06 Stu and Adam like to sneak me into their projects. So I'm always appreciative of it. And it was really fun. It's a no brainer for me. Yeah, it's a great when those sort of things come together. And since you just mentioned him, I might as well say director, co-writer, co-star of Don't Fuck with Ghost ghosts. It's Stewart stone. Hey man
Starting point is 00:05:27 Hey, how are you man? I'm good. Do you prefer stew or Stewart? I see that in your Press materials that goes back and forth wildly it does it depends if my mother wrote the press release or not Since I consider us to be dear friends now Doug, you could just call me stew if you want Okay, or you can call me Colt. You could call me Colt also. Oh, well, that'll get confusing when we play games, but Uh, it's you know, gonna be quite a time-saver that I don't have to keep saying art every time I bring you up That's what i'm here for man just to like, you know be efficient Yeah Now here's something that uh, I wonder if you fellas have noticed
Starting point is 00:06:08 to find don't fuck with ghosts on the IMDB I Had to like just typing in don't fuck with ghosts didn't do the job I had you type in the asterisks instead of the U and the C in instead of the U and the C in Fuck. I would say that like making a movie and picking a title that has the word fuck in it does have some hindrances to it that you learn about as you go. It's a learning process here, Doug. Yeah. And we are learning the same thing as you. So, you know, in the future, future filmmakers, you might want to think about putting the word fucking your title you might not want to do it but you know I think you know people who want to find our movie they're gonna find it and I'm happy you did yeah well you know it makes me think of that AMC TV show Kevin can fuck himself it just seemed like you know all the time they had to go out of their way to deal with that. And I don't know if that is why it was only on for two seasons.
Starting point is 00:07:09 It was a, it was a unusual show. So, what's the log line for, you know, how do you describe Don't Fuck With Ghosts? Just so people, because we've said the title a million times, but give people a little bit more idea. Uh, don't fuck with ghosts. Seize myself and, uh, my brother-in-law and partner, Adam, go into an ex- Head to real partner, head to real partner. Uh, he's actually married to my sister. So, uh, that, you know, anyway, uh, all that to say, uh, we have previously done, uh, a documentary film where we investigated baseball cards called Jack of All Trades, which was like a legit documentary. Then we shot a movie called Faking a Murderer, where Adam and I
Starting point is 00:07:53 looked for a serial killer. We wanted to do a true crime documentary, but we didn't actually know anything about true crimes, so we just made it up. And we told everybody that it was a real documentary, and it turned out to be this big adventure that landed us an opportunity to do another version of a movie like that. In this movie, Don't Fuck With Ghosts, Adam and I go into the world of paranormal and we go on legit ghost hunting expeditions with mediums, psychics, ghost hunters, and Kolkabana, spoiler, where we are looking for proof that ghosts exist so that we can, you know, make millions of dollars and sell the footage to a network. So the, the, the, the movie is definitely
Starting point is 00:08:39 like something that you might, that you would want to watch, Doug. But, but, you know, if you think of a movie like Borat where you're watching Sacha Baron Cohen playing Borat you know that he that's a character and he's like messing with people and in our universe the way we sort of do things Adam and I are just ourselves and everybody who's shooting with us they think that they're doing something legit and for the most part they are doing something legit. It's very pro wrestling, which is why someone like Colt Camana is a perfect person to be in it. But we really did go on a ghost hunt with Colt. We shot it in the murder capital of Canada, Winnipeg.
Starting point is 00:09:13 So you know, there'll be a lot of ghosts there. And we went ghost hunting and I guess the results are the movie, Don't Fuck With Ghosts. So people who wanna find it on amazon uh they have to type the whole word in with the asterix as doug said but do it it's worth it and you're gonna laugh your ass off because it's a really crazy wild adventure maybe if i could give uh if i could give a little add to that though i think like you know the the movie is it's what we call a metaphysical comedy it blurs the lines between fiction and reality
Starting point is 00:09:44 it uses only a handful of actors and the rest of real people who are unknowingly pushing the we call a metaphysical comedy. It blurs the lines between fiction and reality. It uses only a handful of actors and the rest are real people who are unknowingly pushing the narrative forward to the end of this fictional story. And that's pretty much the crux of the film and the format of what we make. It's like watching magic.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Like you know that it's not real, but that was real. Or it's like watching wrestling, like I said. It's like, oh, this is a great show, but that fucking hurt. You know, it's like, so they did hurt. You know what I'm saying? Like Colt gets injured in wrestling. I'm saying wrestling's not real. I'm saying it's real. I'm saying it's a show, a real show. Okay. Yeah, it's a, that's a thing that always cracks me up when somebody's like, wrestling isn't real. It's like, oh, but the way they're landing is absolutely real They're not there's no faking. I mean there's I guess a little bit of faking it but the physical
Starting point is 00:10:37 Aspect of it is just It's too real for me to handle sometimes when people get up on the ropes and jump off And I just think somebody's gonna really Actually break their neck, you know you and you and my mother So, how did you all uh, let's start with you colt. Did you have a good uh, a good christmas Well, yeah as a as a jewish boy Um and a great Christmas. This is why all three of these guests
Starting point is 00:11:08 were available today, Doug. Well, you know, that's funny that that's the case because I certainly didn't think of it in those terms because I just feel like everybody has nothing to do the day after Christmas because the whole world shuts down. Like it's, you know, it'd be all end all. And so I always wonder, you know, I have Jewish friends in LA and they seem to always be like,
Starting point is 00:11:32 hey, I'm having people over or whatever. And then this year, how crazy is it that, I guess it doesn't happen that often, but you know, every few years or so, Hanukkah will actually start on Christmas, which I think it should just that should always be the case. Correct or the last night of Hanukkah should be the first day of Christmas or just Christmas. Yeah just in the ballpark but
Starting point is 00:11:54 I just learned today that like that song the 12 days of Christmas on the 12th day of Christmas blah blah blah those 12 days are counting down starting at Christmas which like I don't know why there's so much Christian gift going gift giving going on in that song. Whereas with Hanukkah, it's legit. There's actually gift giving every day for the next seven days. Right. And I didn't know that until Adam Sandler taught me. So you know, you know that this actually actually aligns on the same day, Just it's an average of like five times in a century Yeah, it's not every like if this is a it's a very rare occasion
Starting point is 00:12:30 Yeah, like think the last time it happened was in the 80s, maybe But yeah, but you know, it's also a part of the fun I mean like, you know Christians get their Easter that's always in a different goddamn day You know, it's in a different spot every year So first time I've ever heard Easter in goddamn before Easter. I really I know right back then I really I'm going for it I like it Doug I we actually we did do presence yesterday and everything but then also we watched Our family was like let's watch something that we haven't seen and we watched volcano
Starting point is 00:13:07 No, and I actually had never seen volcano. So what a tree Like Dante's peak, but yeah with Tommy Lee Jones from 97 what the Tommy Lee Jones and Hayes movie was Dante's peak was Pierce Brosnan, right? And the lady I can't think of right now, but Pierce Brosnan and a lady I can't think of right now. But it's just another one of those strange pairs of movies where two movies that are so crazy similar just were in production the same time and then just ended up somewhere. I just like that era though. There was Backstreet Boys in Sink, there's Christina Aguilar in Britney, there's Volcano in Dante's Peak, there's WWE WWE and WZW there's a lot going on. Well this is the time of year where I ask my guests every week to recommend a movie
Starting point is 00:13:56 but this particular time of year and in a few weeks into January I like to ask people their favorite from the past year. So let's start with Adam. What was your, do you have a favorite movie from 2024? I have a, like a new, we're talking about movies that came out in this year. That's, that's, that's that's what we're going after, correct? Yeah. Not like my favorite movie I like to watch, but like just like, yeah, this, this year I saw I saw well I think I came out last month it was a movie it's substance do you see the substance I have not done any more that was a hell of a movie why do you love it so much it just took like a new you know it took a new take on the meaning of kind of like what what AI could be falling into within our future. You know, using kind of people trying to go back and age and all this
Starting point is 00:14:50 technology that people are trying to come to the forefront with. And it really had an interesting take on kind of the rebirth of yourself. But it was it was a good mystery. It had you know, I'm not going to spoil anything, but Demi Moore looked incredible. She's you know, half naked on the movie too, which was impressive. You know, but she but she, she put on a good show. And the story was amazing and very captivating. It kept me as a viewer throughout the entire thing. If I want to pick up my phone and look what time it is, you know, you have my attention to the movie. The story was original. And that's also something that, you know, we're seeing just tons of remakes and re-do's and, you know, this one was
Starting point is 00:15:31 had an original take on it, which was, which was great. Yeah, I just, the only thing that's, there's two things that are holding me back. One is that, you know, as sad as it is. I just see more movies at home now because it's just easier to do but You know the substance is like enough of a hit in theaters that it's sort of you know, it hasn't You know shown up on any streamers yet But I also part of the reason I would want to watch the substance at home is because I'd be embarrassed about how much I have to look away from the screen. Not because of the nudity, but I hear that the body horror elements are next level. Yeah, but that's again, that's what's captivating to me. That's what was like, oh wow, they found a new way to display that person-to- person type of thing, you know, the shedding
Starting point is 00:16:25 of the skin, just they did it in such an interesting way that if you're looking it up right now, it's crazy. I was going to watch that movie, but now it sounds like, oh, dude, I'll tell you, it's like it's it is gory, but it's amazing to go. Like, it's getting tricked into seeing it because because it is getting it is getting so much respect from critics and people are saying to me more should be you know award nominated for it and uh and it's to me it sounds you know pretty rough i'm already squeamish about body horror it's probably one of my least favorite aspects of horror. And so did you ever see the movie Hunter Hunter?
Starting point is 00:17:07 No, that's like this movie from last year, but it's an indie movie. But like the end of that movie is like, fuck, like it's just like, oh, what am I watching? And like people, people love that stuff. I guess. I think Doug, I think you have talked about it on the, on the show before. Is what Devin Salah is kind of his comeback. Is that right? Yeah Yeah, maybe I have talked about it and then
Starting point is 00:17:30 Yeah, it's like a cabin the woods and at the end like they like I mean, it's pretty graphic But like they do what they would do to a deer but to a person I'll say yeah So gnarly all right Colt. What's your favorite of last year? Oh, I was looking I was you know, the first thing that came to my money was dumb money or that came to my mind was Dumb money, but that was 2023. I just looked it up. So And so dumb wrestler is the answer Blink twice. I really liked I saw that one And I'm sure you've talked about that one Why did people that it has come up a little bit?
Starting point is 00:18:06 But it was like a movie that had so much buzz around it and everyone was you know? Excited because it was what's-her-name's directorial debut Yeah, Zoe Kravitz did a like Excellent job with it. I think she kind of likes studied a bit under Steven Soderbergh. I think he was even a producer on it. And why do you think it like came out and then suddenly people were like, Like it felt like audiences were like weirdly offended. Is it, does it get,
Starting point is 00:18:34 does it go off into a really weird place by the end? Oh, I, well, that's why I liked it. Yeah. I can't speak for others. I kind of bummed I liked it. Yeah. I can't speak for others. People were kind of bummed out by it or something because it's like there's all this buzz around it and then people just stop talking about it. The twist was that that was the most that was again another movie that like had an incredible
Starting point is 00:18:58 twist to it. Yeah. You know, it's a whodunit right? It's in itself. So they just they kind of really they spun that one and and you know, I got to see it. I got to see it. Shani was amazing. Adam, you went to the premiere of that, didn't you? I went I got to go see like a special presentation like private screening of it in Toronto and it was one of those influencer screenings that kind of weaseled my way into, but yeah. And it was great, but it was good. Like a 50 person theater, it was really intimate. I didn't know much about the film going into it,
Starting point is 00:19:32 but I agree, Colt, that was an memorable film. Yeah, I like kind of like those like Eli Roth, like Tarista's or those kind of movies. And I felt that was kind of like a new age one of it. But it does go dark. Like it's another one that goes real dark and it hurts you're like, you know If you're squeamish and you know, you have kind of emotion to people's well-being again it's one of those things that just kind of
Starting point is 00:19:57 Gets you but the twist is worth it. I That was a good one too. Nice one. Cool. What was do you remember the original title of it? That was a good one too. Nice one Colt. What was, do you remember the original title of it? To blink or not to blink? No, it was called like... I want to say... Oh wow. Oh yeah, Pussy Island.
Starting point is 00:20:16 I heard about that, yes. Maybe I do want to watch this. Yeah, see they learned a lesson you guys don't. Yeah. You had to learn by actually putting out Don't Fuck With Us. Maybe I do want to watch this. Yeah, see they learned they learned a lesson you guys don't yeah Actually putting out don't fuck well people said that terrible titles and they changed I think just on that though. I think like the reason that it kind of went away I Think is because it was very reminiscent of a current day type of thing You know kind of like the Epstein Island type of drama that went down. It was, that's the theme, right? So it was probably, it was very, you know, kind of
Starting point is 00:20:51 walking a fine line. Kind of strange too, like the timing of it that like, Knives Out, Glass Onion was sort of, you know, kind of a fun island mystery like maybe it maybe people just You know got that we've already seen this sort of vibe off of it or something Yeah But nonetheless i'm gonna watch it especially that you know now that you recommended it was already something I wanted to see Let's see if we can go three for three stew. Is there something else I didn't see that I should have chances are you're not gonna Go three for three here because I'm more of like a disgruntled movie patron this year I feel like it takes a lot to get me to like come out and support
Starting point is 00:21:35 And I thought this was gonna be a year where I would be coming out to support Roadhouse and Beverly Hills cop and the new gladiator and the new Joker movie. And I got to tell you, Sonic 3 is better than those movies. It's been a tough year. I mean, selfishly, I think Don't Fuck with Ghost is a great movie that you need to watch, Doug. But if I had to be put in a position to recommend a movie, I want to recommend a movie that our buddies made. Adam and I, our buddies made a movie called standing on the shoulders of kiddies.
Starting point is 00:22:08 It is a trailer park boys feature film that is really funny came out in theaters in Canada. I'm pretty sure it came out in the States as well. But it's a really funny movie with the trailer trailer park boys as the character bubbles. If you're familiar with the show, it's a feature film about him pursuing rock stardom with his band, Bubbles and the Shit Rockers, and they end up in Europe opening opening on a tour that features cameos from the members of the Rolling Stones and Billy Bob Thornton. Oh, of course, Billy Bob Thornton is in it. It's pretty funny.
Starting point is 00:22:46 But Doug, weren't you on, didn't you do Trailer Park Boys? I did, yes. I appeared as myself and a lot of people are like, who's that guy? Perfect. So you know what we're talking about. We love those guys. And, you know, we went to their big Canadian party that they had for the movie. And it's, you know, it's exciting to see that they're after all these years, they're still kicking ass and they're really funny guys. So that's my recommendation. Trailer Park. I love that. I think on the shoulders of kiddies.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Yeah, I saw, you know, I follow them on the socials and stuff and I saw that. I mean, they they are really good at, you know, making stuff and keeping stuff coming out. And so I have forgotten to. So it's three for three. I haven't seen any of these movies and I genuinely wanted to prior to your Rex. So now I really, really want to see them. And we got to take a break before we play some games today.
Starting point is 00:23:40 So we'll be right back. We are back. And the first game we're gonna play today, I told you the commercials go by fast. That was really fast yeah. The first game we're gonna play today is called too many cigarettes. Why is it called that? You might find out eventually. I am going to name a motion picture. Then the three of you, same alphabetical order, Adam, then Colt, then Stu, are going to take turns naming actors and actresses that are in this particular movie. If you can't think of one or say an incorrect one, you're out. You know what? I'm not even going to penalize for incorrect ones. If you say one that's not one, you just don't get, you know, you just don't, you don't get a point. We'll make, I'll make this a point system game. Are we playing for a tote bag? I wish I could I guess I could send you a tote bag if you really if you win and really
Starting point is 00:24:50 Truly truly want a tote. I will pay for shipping and handling. Don't worry. I want to I'll definitely set aside some tote bags for you guys But I've tried some tote bags for you guys. But here's where it gets tricky. It's a movie that has a big cast. So if you're not familiar with it or are only vaguely familiar with it, just go ahead and guess actors that you think might have been in Such a movie and no cheating Yeah, no looking it up
Starting point is 00:25:31 and like I said, we'll start with Adam and then go to cold and then to stew and the film is 200 cigarettes a 1999 New Year's Eve 20 somethings comedy. That was even a period piece, I believe. I believe it was supposed to be like the eighties, but it was made in 1999 with a bunch of known people from the era. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:26:04 I'm gonna be completely guessing and I guarantee you I'll get a couple of points. Have any of you seen this movie? I've seen this movie, yes. Do you remember who was in it? I do. Don't say anybody. I'm not going to say anything until you tell me. All right. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:26:17 We'll see who can. This sounds like it's going to be competitive. I was worried that everyone would just be like, I don't know that movie. But then I still think it's funny that you could still get a correct answer because, you know, all these people that are in this movie. I'm pretty sure I'm doing a quick scan. They're all this is a great clue. They're all alive. Oh, wow. Okay, that's good. 2525 years later, they're all alive. That eliminates a lot of people
Starting point is 00:26:48 All right, so Adam you're up first name somebody and you know If you know some obscure people in it to do that, you know be play strategically. Yeah, what's your first guess Adam? Well, I Dave Chappelle. Yes Dave Chappelle plays cab driver Who I think he even sort of narrates the story or at least is is pivotal in one of the stories because it's one of those stories happening on New Year's Eve but not just like I think he was it was also like like a disco themed driver yes he was disco cabi I think was even his name.
Starting point is 00:27:27 That was a name? I think that's his name in the credits is disco cabi like how embarrassing but the movie is like you know just reviled like everybody the critics hated it and it didn't do well at the box office and whatever happened to the guy who played it and I didn't I didn't like it at all I believe I found it very to be very bad so whatever happened to the guy who played disco cabbie did you ever go on to do anything else yeah he's managed to do okay ultimately I mean like favorite like Dave Chappelle has some really interesting movie appearances
Starting point is 00:28:05 But I love in con air when they throw his body out Yeah, not about that. It's such a cool shot He has such a silly look on his face and it just follows the way the body it follows the body all the way down To the ground just like the shot in Pearl Harbor where they follow the bomb all the way down to the ground It's crazy. Okay. Anyway Colt the bomb all the way down to the ground. It's crazy. Okay, anyway, Colt, did you say you saw this movie? You know, it just sounds, I'm sure I did, by the way.
Starting point is 00:28:31 100%, especially in 99. But my, Chappelle was, I feel, the one that I knew through his IMDB. Okay, but otherwise, I, okay, okay. I'm just gonna guess Justin Long, I guess. I don't know. That's like an of the era guy that would be in a movie like this. Yeah, that's a very good. I'm kind of going the same strategy as you Colt.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Yeah, no, I love that. And that might work. But I feel like Adam's got kind of an edge here, unfortunately, but no, as long as not in 200 cigarettes. Stu, what's your guess? You know, I have not like if I saw the movie, I don't remember seeing it. So it's one of these like I'm going to try to go with a Justin Long type guess. I want to really like throw a dart at the cast of That 70 Show and land on one of them because maybe they would be in this movie.
Starting point is 00:29:30 Maybe Topher Grace. Topher Grace. I love Topher Grace as a guest, but no, he's not. He's not in 206. Adam Bass, you're going to run away with this thing? Topher. Okay. I think I'm going. Yeah. Well, I'm gonna try to, okay, I'm gonna try, but because I
Starting point is 00:29:50 remember, because I watched this other movie before, Half Baked, and Half Baked also stars, this guy has a small role in 200 Cigarettes. Really? But I forget his last name. Sagas? His first name? last name first name no no not second not Bob so no he said okay no no no he was he was he played the Latin X character his first name I know is Guillermo but I don't know his last name well do you want to get a guy or pick somebody else like raise raise raise Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy?
Starting point is 00:30:25 Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy?
Starting point is 00:30:33 Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy?
Starting point is 00:30:41 Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Who is the guy? Pulling out fucking this name. I don't know the last name. I don't know the last name. But you know other people that are in it. You're just trying to pick somebody that's harder. Oh, I was trying to tie them in. Yeah. Yeah. OK. Other person. Well, OK. It was Ben Affleck.
Starting point is 00:30:50 It's his movie. And then after that, it's indeed in 200 cigarettes. Oh, that's good to know. That's good to know. Right. It might be helpful. Yes, it is. Zoe Deschanel. No, he does. Now, she's great enough, though. Uh, Zoe Deschanel. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Starting point is 00:31:06 no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, No, no, but it was a good one. OK, but I know another guy in it. OK, I Paul Rudd is in that.
Starting point is 00:31:31 He sure is. Wow. Paul Rudd. Yeah. All right. Then I'll go into you guys are going too young to stay with the demographic. I'm going to get clues. Anyway, 2000 Paul Rudd is like fucking 35 Yes, Alicia still Silverstone no, come on Wow, no, I don't know I don't know I don't know I don't know, but she's not in it. You're right. Okay. Thank you shit No, I don't know, but she's not in it. You're right. Okay. Thank you Ah shit Uh, okay. Uh, I there's gonna have to be some females in this movie. Sure
Starting point is 00:32:10 Yeah, Alicia Silverstone. Maybe it's gonna be is jennifer garner is a little on the nose probably just because but uh What about uh, Sarah Michelle Geller? Oh, that's an interesting guess An interesting guesser, but no, she's not in ah Adam you I do one more just to feel yeah, I'm gonna put these guys. Yeah, yeah, cuz we know that this particular female star Got with our friend Devin Sala in the movie Casper Tina Ricci What the heck you just took Casper. Oh, Christina Ricci.
Starting point is 00:32:46 What the heck? You just took my answer. Oh, it's your answer. Yes, that's your answer. So that's yeah, we just. Christina Ricci. He's not going to say somebody else. Wait, Devon Sala was the voice of Casper. No, he was like when Casper
Starting point is 00:33:01 turns into a real boy, that's Devon. Oh, OK. Yeah, yeah. I remember that. So technically, he's Casper? No, he was like when Casper turns into a real boy. That's Devon. Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah, I remember that. So technically, he's Casper. Okay, so I'm gonna call it a win for Adam because he's he's too far ahead for you guys to even catch up. Yeah, who else do you remember from it, Adam? Janine Garofalo. Mm-hmm. And the guy from the Drew Carey show, Bader, Deidre Bader.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Oh, he's in it. I would say if I had to guess, it seems like an era where there's got to be a rapper in this movie. Oh, yeah. Oh, there is. Well, I take it back. There's musicians. OK. Yeah, like Harry Connick Jr. There's three fairly prominent
Starting point is 00:33:48 musicians, but I'll tell you all of it. Please. I'll tell you all of them right now. Yes. Courtney Love is in this. Oh, wow. Courtney Love. That's right. Yeah, probably stopped her acting career in its tracks. And then you remember Buster Poindexter? Of course. Feeling hot, hot, hot. The great David Johansson is in the movie. And then the third musician in the movie is Elvis Costello. The real Elvis. And then some of the actors that you didn't land on are Gabby Hoffman, Jay Moore, Kate Hudson.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Kate Hudson. That would have been perfect. And Martha Plimpton. So congratulations, Adam. You know more about that shitty movie than anybody else and We'll find out how that's gonna help you in our next game after this break. We'll be right back We are back. That was another fast one that one really that was faster than the previous one Yeah, that one really flew by and I hope that everybody purchases the services and goods that are offered in those advertisements. Especially the ones where it's my voice. The ads where it's not my voice, you know, it's less important. So Adam, all you won for winning that last game
Starting point is 00:35:22 is you just get to go first in our next game which there is a bit of an advantage to going first in this game and you might find out if we get into a Tiebreaker situation because then you'll get to go first if there's a tiebreaker at the end This game is called weird algorithm Our friends at IMDB who do not pay me the dime to mention them constantly, they have a weird algorithm. Popularity, star meter, whatever you want to call it. You can take any movie, including Don't Fuck with Ghosts, you can take that movie and you can
Starting point is 00:36:08 hit a button that refines the cast list so that they're not in alphabetical or credited order, but just in an order of popularity. Wow, that's pretty cool. According to the website. It's a real, you can really get into a real roundable. Colt might get top billing in our movie after all. There is a God. Oh, you can sort it from your movie.
Starting point is 00:36:29 I'd say maybe Michael Rappaport might be. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, depends who you ask. Right. Well, that's the thing though is people will look up things, the algorithms based on what people are searching on the site.
Starting point is 00:36:41 So people will look up the names of people they hate just as much as they will look up the names of people that they're interested in. So Adam might actually win. But I'm going to tell you each round is a different movie. I'm going to tell you the name of the movie and then Adam's going to go first because he won that first game and then we go to Stuart and then to Scott. We're going to play three rounds and each round a different one of you will have an opportunity to go first. And I hate to interrupt, but just for the records of your listeners know, before we started recording, you asked Colton myself what you wanted us to be called. And then you went the opposite direction for both of us.
Starting point is 00:37:27 You just said Stuart and Scott and so still like earlier when you brought up, when we talked about what we're going to say, your names were I had already written all this stuff down. Oh, well, there you go. That's fine. And I, and I said it out loud, I'm going to have to go through and change the script. But then of course I didn't. Yeah, I'm happy you didn't because it made for a nice moment. Yeah, but also strangely enough you're alphabetically. You're still in the same order
Starting point is 00:37:50 Whether it's first or last real name or professional name Describe it professional name anyway Stripper I'll call him Colt from now on but Stuart might come out of my mouth. I I don't know I'm totally fine. Totally do is a fake man too by the way all right so I think I explained it I think everybody got it oh so you'll name I'll say the movie and then you'll take turns naming the person that you think would be the most popular from the movie if you name the number one person, you get three points. Number two is worth two, number three is worth one, and the rest aren't worth squat.
Starting point is 00:38:30 They're not worth anything. Family Feud style scoring. Kind of, yeah. Okay. And then you can share answers. You can give the same answer as somebody else, but ultimately there will only be one winner, so you have to decide how strategic
Starting point is 00:38:45 to be about that. Alrighty, Adam's up first. Get his name right. So it's like the top three answers are on the board type of thing? That's correct, yes. Okay. But they're not worth as many points on Family Feud. Family Feud doesn't break it down to just three points for number one.
Starting point is 00:39:04 No. Family few doesn't break it down to just three points for number one All right, so I hope you guys are really good at Memory games Because the first film that I'm going to ask you to name people from is 200 cigarettes. So Adam you're up first who do you think's top build from? In each case if it's a movie we haven't already discussed ad nauseum I will say who the top two top two build people are according to billing. In this case it would be the Afflecks, Ben and Casey. But do you think either of them are in the top three
Starting point is 00:39:47 or do you wanna say somebody else? Adam, you go first. Yeah, yeah, they're definitely in the top. Ben Affleck, number one. You think Ben Affleck is number one? Do you have to quantify that you're picking what number it's gonna be, like Adam just did? No.
Starting point is 00:40:01 No, but you want, you know, obviously you wanna pick the person you think will be number one. Okay? You know, yes, I that is my locked in answer. All right, Stu. I am gonna go with Dave Chappelle For the number one answer. Okay, that's fair We did establish that he's in it and Colt Yeah, I'll mix it up. I thought Paul Rudd would be before them. Okay, I'll try Paul Rudd. Okay These are all great answers, but that's how messed up this particular
Starting point is 00:40:34 game can be not one of them because Number three is Paul Rudd. Yes. So that's worth one point for Colt. Wow. Number two is Ben Affleck. Oh, that's two points for Adam.
Starting point is 00:40:56 And then, sorry, Stu, the number one person, according to the weird algorithm that is IMDB, Gabby Hoffman. What? From volcano. Yeah, well, I mean, and from one of my favorite child actor performances of all time, she and Macaulay Culkin are so good in Uncle Buck. Oh, yeah. Yeah, of course. I'm a kid. That's my job.
Starting point is 00:41:22 Great. She's ranked as number one. But yeah, Gabby Hoffman is number one. I assume because of I think she's in a mini series. It's about to debut on one of the streamers And uh, but she's you know, she's still a terrific actress all these all these years later. They they know I just watched volcano Well, also like maybe oh wow, Gab I be hot number one go Gabby go? Exactly, but also it tells you to be really careful in this game because you just never know Dave Chappelle Not even in the top three not even a top six. Oh, I thought you also I thought he was top three. Thanks. Oh No, no, I'll then make it make it at all. Boy. I really shit the bed on this one, but it's all very
Starting point is 00:42:06 It's extremely topical in terms of like I look these up today You know, it's good a chip. Oh, I guess just didn't say anything offensive over the last week Okay, so well let's go to round two and This time we start with Stu then go to Colton then to Adam and the film Because we're 200 cigarettes is a New Year's Eve movie so I decided to keep that theme going since the new year is about to begin and one of my favorite New Year's Eve movies, even though it ends up being
Starting point is 00:42:41 Quite the disaster for everybody involved is the Poseidon Adventure. Starring Gene Hackman and Ernest Borgnine and then a bunch of people who are, may or may not die by the end of the film when the boat flips over at a cruise ship flips over at midnight. What do you think? Spoilers, geez. What do you think? Spoilers, geez.
Starting point is 00:43:06 What do you think, Stu? It happens in the first, you know, it's in the trailer. I mean, I don't, I'm not like the up and down, like I don't have like the cast members at the tip of my tongue here, but like I do know, I know the hell out of Gene Hackman. And I do know that he- Yeah, never know the greatest actors ever.
Starting point is 00:43:23 You know, it's like, he's he's like Michael Jordan when Michael Jordan left. But like Gene Hackman didn't come back like Michael Jordan did. He just knew when to go. He left on top. You know what I mean? Yeah, he did. Welcome to Mooseport and got the fuck out. Yeah, he was like, he's like, I'm done. That's a wrap. So I got to say, Gene Hackman is probably number one. It's not going to be because that's just how these things work. But just in case this is you're just trying to throw a trick at us, I'm gonna lock in
Starting point is 00:43:49 Gene Hackman. It's all one big trick to be honest with you. Colt, what's your guess? Yeah, well, since he's left and never came back and never made a splash, no one's talking about him. And obviously, I could name every single actor in this movie, but I'll choose to just name the other actor that Doug said, Ernest Borg-Nine. Ernie as his friends call him. Ernie, Big Ernie. Big Ernie.
Starting point is 00:44:19 Ernie really, you know, personalized plates started like around the time Ernest Borg-Nine was still pretty well known living individual. And he really got the personalized plate, you know, the word Borg and then the number nine. OK, Adam. Oh, man, I'm going to I'm going to have to stick with the gene as well. I could we could I could I could I could use that right? Yeah, you can
Starting point is 00:44:48 Yeah, cuz I don't know anybody else off tip my tongue. Well, it had quite you know for the time I guess was pretty star-studded, but it's interesting how these people shake out by by today's standards so Yeah, I'm gonna have to stick with Mr. Like, like, like I do know that on TBS they did play the firm recently. So maybe Jean is number one.
Starting point is 00:45:14 Oh, maybe. Yeah. If you are watching the firm, they're like, who is this? Who is this sneaky fellow who causes Tom Cruise to run so fast? He does run really fast. I think that was the first time we saw Tom Cruise like a full sprint was in the firm, which is funny because it's a legal drama. Okay. Let me break this down for you starting with,
Starting point is 00:45:40 should have been nominated or was nominated for an Oscar for her role in this movie. A lot of people don't remember that Shelly Winters, oh plays the woman who basically saves a lot of the other passengers by doing a dangerous swim to like unplug something to open a door and And you know, and then she has a dramatic death scene, but she did not win the Oscar but still pretty impressive she was nominated for a ostensibly a silly disaster movie, but
Starting point is 00:46:10 Our friend Ernest Borgnine unfortunately didn't crack the top three number four But coming in at number three is an actor I've always admired and I don't know why people be looking up his name now but Roddy MacDowell. Is he the father of Andy MacDowell? No relation. Is he related to former major league pitcher Roger MacDowell? I don't think so. I think his cousin was Malcolm MacDowell. I think they might've been related.
Starting point is 00:46:40 That actually might be true. He might've owned a restaurant in coming from there. No, but that guy died recently. Didn any the guy that owned McDowell's? He died. Oh, oh, yeah, Roddy McDowell died a long time ago. No, no, but like the McDowell's coming to America. Yeah. Yeah anyway Speaking of dead people number two He dies immediately in the film but still managed to be a second most on IMDB today, Leslie Nielsen. Oh, the legend, icon. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:07 I can't believe I didn't say that. I'm so dumb. He plays the captain that decides this ship should go straight into a tidal wave. He's like, let's turn it around the second the tidal wave is about to hit. And then, of course, you nailed it. Great performance in a silly movie. And then of course, you nailed it great performance in a silly movie gene happened is number one So that was worth three points to both Stu and Adam Yeah, still it's still anybody's game if your name is Adam Just kind of it's kind of bullshit though because like I already said Jean and you know, yeah
Starting point is 00:47:50 No, it's you know, but if you listen to the rules Still you would know that I can also match that answer So it's like Leslie Leslie Nielsen is like the star of so many films that the three of us all three guests love Leslie Nielsen and nobody said him we should all be ashamed Yeah, it's hard to remember he was in it though because he really he really does die immediately But it is his fault also, okay, so Just for fun of it. We'll play the third round, but we all know what what happened here I wish there was negative points I could give somebody but the third movie that I chose Sticking with the theme is the remake of the Poseidon adventure
Starting point is 00:48:34 called merely Poseidon and Somehow less memorable even though it was more recent it was in 2006 and The top-billed stars in the movie were Richard Dreyfuss and Kurt Russell. Jesus. Don't. You did not see that movie. Poseidon? Yeah, you didn't see that. Dude, you didn't see Poseidon.
Starting point is 00:48:56 You? I saw Poseidon with my dad. Yeah, I did. That's such bullshit. Your dad did not see Poseidon with you. Oh, he saw Poseidon. He may have, but you didn't. He's like, Adam, you know what movie you need to see with me? I'm like, what? He goes Poseidon. I'll tell you what.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Poseidon is a movie that Colton, his family will be watching at Christmas in three years. Yeah. So is Gabby Hoffman the number one answer? Yeah, she better be. What's your guess for Poseidon starring Richard Dreyfuss and Kurt Russell? Am I starting? Yeah, she better be. What's your guess for Poseidon starring Richard Dreyfuss and Kurt Russell? Am I starting? Yeah. Yeah. Richard Dreyfuss. Richard Dreyfuss. Going with Dick Dreyfuss, huh? Dickie. Dickie D. Dickie D. Was it a movie I just saw? What did I just see that he was in? Volcano. No.
Starting point is 00:49:44 Is it Blink Twice twice it might have been blinked twice is he in that it might be in what blink twice yeah he was just in a he was just in a movie and it was really and it was really like whoa where's this guy been huh yeah all right well what about bob yeah that's it.
Starting point is 00:50:08 Adam. Yeah. Who says he saw the movie better not pick Kurt Russell because Adam saw the movie. Why can't I pick Kurt Russell? Because like, you know, the rest of the cast, you saw the movie. He just said Dreyfus and Russell, they are the stars of the film. Sure. But it's also like an algorithm kind of thing. So like other actors that you would have seen when you saw the movie with your father would be a better answer because, you know, let me let me let me date back to the early 2000s here.
Starting point is 00:50:35 Who else was in it? I know. Who else? Oh, wait. I'm trying to think. Pierce Brosnan. Pierce Brosnan was not in the house. Oh wait. Who? I'm trying to think. Pierce Brosnan. Pierce Brosnan was not in the film. I think it's got a good cast, but I think the whole thing is just sort of a forgettable enterprise.
Starting point is 00:50:56 I'm gonna, I have to go with Kurt Russell. Kurt Russell is gonna be more in the news today and popular. Okay. What do you think, Stu? I honestly don't, I didn't see the movie. I'm just like I and like these guys picks Kurt Russell already. I feel like there's got to be somebody like who is playing like like the maybe it's like Taye Diggs or someone is in this movie. You know, that's your final answer.
Starting point is 00:51:22 Take it like 2006 like, you know, who is like the fourth down on the on the call sheet in a movie like this? Is it like someone with a serious kind of role for the I don't know, guys. I actually know it was 2006. You could date it all the way back. 2006. Yeah, he said it was 2000. I wasn date it all the way back. He's got it. It was six. Yeah, he said it was two thousand. I think I wasn't listening.
Starting point is 00:51:46 I was. Yeah. She said, I don't want to take up too much of your time. Like, my answer is going to be Kurt Russell, but I will just throw out as a wild card. I'd like to know if Tate Diggs was in this movie and if he is, then that's my answer. OK, otherwise, it's Kurt Russell. So Kurt Russell was a side of Tate Diggs. Yes.
Starting point is 00:52:07 Shout out to Tate Diggs if he's listening. Well, I'm sorry. We're all out of Taye Diggs today. He's not in it. But as established, Kurt Russell is indeed in it. And this is I don't think it's going to come a shock to anyone considering we couldn't even think of what Richard Dreyfus was in lately. He came in at number five. Holy shit. Yeah. what Richard Dreyfuss was in lately, he came in at number five. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:26 We can name other cast members and we try to place them just for fun. Yeah. Well, number four was the actor we lost recently, who's mostly known for two of the best TV roles in the history of television on the shows Homicide and Brooklyn Nine Nine. Andre Brower. Yes. Yeah, he was there. Um, and then, uh, number three, the voice of home Depot, Josh Lucas. Is he the voice of home Depot?
Starting point is 00:52:53 He sure is. Spoiler. I thought that was Kyle. They are similar. And then, uh, number two, uh, you may know her mostly from the Showtime show Shameless, Emmy Rossum. She was like the ingenue in the...
Starting point is 00:53:11 She's good. Is she the one that went for the dangerous swim to save passengers in the remake? No, I don't know. I don't know what actress did that because she didn't finish high enough up on the list, but it'd probably be like an older actress. But I also don't know how closely the Poseidon remake stuck to the story. I assume it's pretty close. But anyway, you've all figured out that, of course, Kurt Russell is
Starting point is 00:53:35 and always will be number one in all of our hearts. And congratulations. The foregone conclusion has been even more foregone and more concluded because Adam is our winner today. Congratulations, Adam. The pleasure. Thank you so much. I wanna thank Stu.
Starting point is 00:53:57 Adam would like to thank Google. I'll tell you who I wanna thank. I wanna thank Stu. No, no, no. I want to thank Stu for not knowing as much as me about these films. And I want to thank Colt because he actually had a really good couple of choices.
Starting point is 00:54:13 And it was a stiff competition. But yeah, I deserve to win. I think so. What would you like to promote? You've got to do your plugs first. You know, we thank you very much. I want to promote, obviously, Don't Fuck with Ghosts, which I just so before we go, we have this movie, which I learned we have a common connection with you, because our executive
Starting point is 00:54:37 producer, Mr. Kevin Healy, if you remember that name, was the producer of a show that you did, which was High Court. Yeah. Do you remember? Of course you remember. Yeah, I know Kevin. But Kevin was behind this film with us and he says hi. Oh, he's the greatest. He was excited that we were all looking up.
Starting point is 00:55:00 But yeah, Don't Fuck with Ghosts, available on Amazon Prime in the US, Apple TV in Canada, and as well, because it is the Hollywood season, we did a movie called Vandance. It stars Ricky from the Trailer Park Boys, Mr. Rob Wells, Enrico Collantoni, who's on a really funny show right now called The English Teacher on FX. And Stu and I co-wrote this movie a couple Christmases ago. It's a stoner Christmas movie. You guys will love it. It's available on Tubi and all the other platforms that you can stream. And then you can see me follow us at five, seven films, all spelt out F I V E S E
Starting point is 00:55:33 D E N films with an S. Um, and I'm Adam Brodness. Thanks for having me, Doug. I mean, Doug, that was three plugs. You said he could plug one thing. He did. He did everything. I don't think I limited the but I'm glad you were counting. Yeah. We can rewind and make sure because I was, I was listening on that one. I said, what are your plugs? I should have said, please, uh, no more than seven. Uh oh. Cole's got like eight. So good luck.
Starting point is 00:56:03 Cole Cabetta. Uh, always great to have you. And thanks thanks for recommending these these dudes to come on with you What would you like to promote? Yeah, such a pleasure. Thanks for having me and thanks for having them too. And yeah, I just want to highlight Adam and Stu who you know, I've known Stu for so long and I've seen him He he scores the music to these things. He directs he produces he writes It's all it's all super impressive And then to get it on the big screen. So check me out, don't fuck with ghosts. And then of course I made some documentaries about my wrestling life. There's three available, the Wrestling Road Diaries, they're all available at coltmerch.com
Starting point is 00:56:37 and you can just get them digital or off my website. And then also I'm part of a wrestling promotion called All Elite Wrestling, AEW, and that's on TNT and it's on TNT and it's on TBS on Wednesdays and TNT on Saturdays and we're moving over to Max where you can watch it streaming now and that's All Elite Wrestling, AEW. Nice. Yeah. I want to, it says Stu now, Doug. Hi. I want to shout out Gabby Hoffman, who was the number one ranked actor in 200 Cigarettes,
Starting point is 00:57:08 which is quite an impressive feat considering how star studded that cast is. So I really do want to shout her out for that. But yeah, plugs. Adam plugged our movies, which is great. Doug, if you find yourself in the Los Angeles area, we are doing a very, very special exclusive screening of Don't Fuck with Ghosts in Los Angeles on January the 16th. And we'd love for you to come if you're if you're in town. If not, that is a plug that someone can hit us up on our Instagram at five seven films and we will be giving away to VIP passes to come to this very exclusive screening, which will feature Adam myself and perhaps Doug on January 16th in Los Angeles. But thank you for having us.
Starting point is 00:57:51 We'd love to come again sometime and do a little bit more studying in advance on movies like Poseidon and Poseidon Adventure. There's no way to study for this show. Well, I think you just smoke one and then you're pretty much, you're in good shape. But I would say though, if you do happen to send Adam a tote bag, if an extra one sneaks into the package, I would be appreciative. And thank you Doug. I'll just bring the tote bags to the screening.
Starting point is 00:58:16 Oh, that'll work even better. That'll work even better. Thank you. Yeah. I don't like going to the post office. I don't like shipping things. And happy new year, Doug. Thanks for having us, man.
Starting point is 00:58:27 We are thrilled to be chilling with you today. So thank you, Colt, for setting this up too. I've got some plugs. January 7th, Vincent movie interruptions back in LA. I'm gonna wait till January 16th You know now I'm gonna wait till January 16th. Oh yeah. But I'm looking forward to it. So thank you Adam Rodness, Cole Cabana and Stuart. Stuart Stone. Yes. Thank you Douglas.
Starting point is 00:59:39 I always close out every episode with the last line from a motion picture and The last line from 200 cigarettes would be Quite quite appropriate today. So as always James Brown is the baddest motherfucker in show business Now it's time for Doug to watch another talkie. Eyes of gold is viewing prowess makes it cocky. There's no room in his heart for you, cause Doug loves movies!
