Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers screening baby sticky seeds with 50 as a pop or kernels in his teeth They're still not one that he won't see Hey, hey everybody, my name is Doug and I love the movies This is Doug loves the movies recording on December 29th 2024 last episode of the year and for this very auspicious occasion because time marches on I've gathered three of our greatest guests on this show give or take two or three
Starting point is 00:00:42 Give or take two or three They are a pageant Brewster Sam Levine and gave Malika hello everyone Let's meet them individually alphabetically by first name like I do he is a returning champion, I don't know how many weeks to go, but He's back. Well, we'll talk about it after I say his name. It's Gabe Malik. I gave a Doug It's nice to be back. Yeah, you were involved in a three-way Yeah, yeah some things I can't talk about publicly, but yes three-way tie in the game for sure Yes, we're three of you all finished in a time. I might have been the only time that's ever happened
Starting point is 00:01:31 but The other two came back and they've all they've both fallen by the wayside already, but we'll see how you do today because Guess who's here? You know what we'll get to him in a moment. She is the star of a one-woman show called Criminal Minds. She plays all the parts thanks to AI and her tremendous talent. It's Paget Bo You're a booster. Hey Padgett. Hey Doug How's it going? Oh, I'm great. I'm so happy to be here. You guys are a delight. Well, I don't know Gabe See is he a delight it's only gonna take this one hour and you're gonna have a lifelong new friend. Oh
Starting point is 00:02:26 Yeah You can both, you know get together in the text and discuss your love of Adam Sandler films Oh sure Happy New Year almost pageant. Hey, thanks Doug. Happy New Year almost, Padgett. Hey, thanks, Doug. Happy New Year almost to you. I should probably say that to all of my guests, but I only wrote it down for you. Oh, thank you. Because we got something else to talk about with this other guy. When I told Padgett you were going to be here, dude, she was audibly unhappy
Starting point is 00:03:02 because of her. You know, she feels she's probably going to lose because Sam, the man Levine, a.k.a. other stuff is here. Hello, Sam. Hello, Doug. How are you? I am doing very well. How is Hanukkah treating you? So far, so good.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Doug, I'll tell you the truth. I wasn't sure if I was able to do the show today I had my tonsils removed 10 days ago. Oh Oh How many days 10 days? Yeah, and you just been counting down the days going. I don't know if I'm gonna make it has it been a real ticking clock situation it it absolutely has I only Regained this version of a speaking voice last night Well, I'm happy for you, and I'm also happy for all of us because now you can't scream at us like you do That's true. I am not you can't use your very angry voice
Starting point is 00:03:59 but You do sound good, but it's so really just sort of Was it super scratchy for a bit or I? Just suddenly all come back. I couldn't speak at all for about a week Wow Lucky What's your wife call that heaven? Guilty as I'm guilty as.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Actually, probably pretty annoying because you have to write write stuff down, basically. Yeah. Or if you see it real close and I can whisper it. Oh, wow. You had your whisperer. That's pretty cool. It was it was like I was telling her secrets. But the thing I was saying was not a secret at all. You know. Yeah. And you could also see now you know what it's like when you smoke too many cigarettes. Now I know exactly what it's like.
Starting point is 00:04:52 You get to have that feeling without the cigarettes part. Wait, quick question. Sam, could you eat whatever you wanted? Or was it like a liquid diet? No, it was liquid. And I'm still, I can't eat properly yet, but I'm sorry to interrupt I hope Sam learns how to eat a can Sam yes, I Just realized that it's Hanukkah and you're on the show with Gabe Malika Writing another line for the Adam Sandler song. Doug, I hate to do this, but I'm Italian.
Starting point is 00:05:34 That's the thing is, you know, he just throw in a silly voice at the end going, you know, he's actually Italian, but it rhymes with Hanukkah sort of in Adam's world. Sam, you've got a important mission here today because our friend Clark wolf Who you are in two hoots with has been on the program? She won an episode she got to come back a second time since she got two pumps of
Starting point is 00:06:01 plugs for your Thing you got going on. Let me tell everybody about it if they haven't heard you. Oh, I thank you, Doug. So the great Clark Wolfe and I are raising funds on Indiegogo to produce what will be a short film, but we hope that it will actually be the opening sequence of a full-length feature film called Fiendsgiving. That's right called Fiendsgiving.
Starting point is 00:06:25 That's right, Fiendsgiving. It is a Thanksgiving set horror film and Clark has written a terrific script and she is directing it. And I am starring in this short film and we are trying to raise money, like I said, on Indiegogo to fund this thing so that we can shoot it. And I think my favorite thing about the rewards
Starting point is 00:06:45 we're giving for our campaign is that it's not the typical, you know, no, no, the DVD and a poster, whatever you'll lose those. This is we're giving away things that people can use to actually learn how to make their own films. So we're gonna live stream our production meetings. We're gonna make drives available to our discords and stuff available to everyone.
Starting point is 00:07:04 They can see our production notes, our budget, our breakdowns, our schedule so that they can actually really see the nuts and bolts of what it takes to make their own stuff, should they so desire or just learn a little more about how movies are made. I love it. And when's the, is there like a speaking of ticking clocks, is there, when does this thing end? Is there a date that people have to jump on by well we are supposedly? Calling it on New Year's Eve
Starting point is 00:07:33 But I don't know we we may decide to extend it a little bit because we're feeling generous. I don't know Oh, that's how that kind of thing works. You can extend it I think we have to ask the Indiegogo gods if they're willing to give us a little grace. But I'm I'm not sure Doug. I don't know. This is above my pay grade, which is zero. Yeah, Clark was much better at answering these questions. So it worked out pretty good that you lost your voice. It was pretty good timing. You let her do all that. All that jibber jabber while you're at home having soup all right, so
Starting point is 00:08:12 Great to have you all here, it's an exciting Exciting matchup before we get to some games. I want to talk movies for a little bit Specifically I would like each of you to tell me the best movie you saw Over the past year what movie did you like the most if you can do that I I still have so many prestige films You know that I have yet to see So I feel like it's not fair for me to pick a favorite, but I'm going to make you do it. Let's start with Gabe. What was your favorite movie last year?
Starting point is 00:08:51 Oh, man. I had a recommendation, but now it's got to be my favorite. Was it a movie from last year? This recommendation that you pre-packed? It was, yes. So I was going to mention. So it sounds perfect. I'm just going to say this one. I I guess I saw a complete unknown Okay, and listen Chalamet doesn't need need my my bump But my friend Nick Pupo who's a comedian is in this movie with like a pretty cool important role And it's just like very cool to see your friends like in giant movies, you know
Starting point is 00:09:20 I'm sure as all everyone in this call knows it's like a cool feeling. So I wanted to shout out my buddy Nick Pupo. What does he play? A known figure? Yeah, he plays somebody who's on the board of the Jazz Festival, who's on stage at the end of the movie when Bob is deciding whether he's going to come back on stage or not, and he's at the mic. Oh, okay. But he's in a scene with Edward Norton.
Starting point is 00:09:44 He's got a couple of cool lines. It's great. That's awesome. It really seems to be gaining a lot of momentum for award season for a lot of the performances and the movie in general. I'm a huge, is directed by James Mangold, right? Yeah. Yeah. That guy, even his movies that I didn't really care for, I still see that he's a director who's
Starting point is 00:10:14 does his best with the material and also contributes as a writer. Has anybody else, have you seen it yet, Padgett? No. What about you, Sam? I saw it. I saw it. And you're not as excited about it as Gabe? Oh, no, I'm excited. I guess for people who are excited and maybe think like, oh, finally, a Bob Dylan biopic, it's not really a Bob Dylan biopic.
Starting point is 00:10:39 It's based on a book that actually covers a relatively short span of Bob Dylan's life and career. So it's certainly a great in depth look at that short period. It's a bio chick flick because it's just about that one relationship that he had at one point in his career. I would say it's closer to two, but yeah, it's a bio chick flick. I'm coining it. I'm coining it right now But Yeah, I mean I've been hearing the word on the streets is people are kind of blown away by it or just sort of
Starting point is 00:11:16 Whatever like, you know don't that into it. So do you think it takes a level of the? Bob Dylan fandom. Do you think it would turn, do you think people who don't even know Bob Dylan very well would be like, oh, this guy seems awesome based on seeing this movie? Who are you asking me or Gabe? I'm asking Padgett, cause she probably has. I haven't seen it.
Starting point is 00:11:42 I haven't seen it yet. And I'm gonna wait until it's free in my home. Oh, okay. Yeah, well that's, you know, that's not a bad move these days because people are getting wild out there in the theaters. But no, Sam, you can answer the question. Does it make Bob Dylan seem super cool? No, it does not make Bob Dylan seem super cool. I think it's a very honest portrayal. I think Chalamet is spectacular. I think all the acting across the board is great. I think the production design is great.
Starting point is 00:12:15 They really captured the era on film. But I guess my fault was I didn't realize that it was based on a book covering that span. Going, I thought it was moral encompassing. So now knowing that on a book covering that span going right. I thought it was more all encompassing. So now knowing that, I think I would probably enjoy it. You know, I don't, you know, maybe down the road, they can make another one where, you know, she'll amaze Wilbury. But, you know, I don't need to make up on. I don't need the shallow me.
Starting point is 00:12:42 I think he's avoided old age makeup so far. But I hope he never gives into that. I hope he just, you know, plays in the range that he can do just by through physical facial contortion. We'll have Link later directed in time. You know, what's his name? Jim Carrey famously really really really hated putting on the Grinch makeup every day for the the Grinch movie You know Ron Howard's been out there saying you know he felt really bad for him because he like
Starting point is 00:13:15 He was practically having a nervous breakdown having it put on all those prosthetics and sit in the chair every day for four hours But I was just thinking I saw a video of him You know there's a video floating around out there where he does the Grinch face and the voice for a little kid And it just looks all you got to do is paint his face green you don't have to go You can add the fucking whiskers in post like why is it? Why would you have to put this man through this horrible makeup stuff when you know with the level of? You know technology we have today end of rant
Starting point is 00:13:54 Look back to you Gabe A complete unknown is the best movie you've ever seen yes number one one a one Sorry Godfather. Or I don't know. That's a block. Yeah. This there's a I guess there's always a few movies jockeying for, you know, Citizen Kane somehow is always in the conversation, even though I don't feel like younger people watching it are necessarily that that into it.
Starting point is 00:14:28 I watched it in high school, and I was so distracted the whole time by by being like, wow, I'm so smart, I'm watching citizen Kane in high school. And I didn't pick up on anything. Yeah, it is kind of a pat yourself on the back for watching. It's like I'm so precocious experience. Pat yourself on the back for watching it like I'm so precocious experience Padgett so since you're hanging out at home or busy working I know you're gonna be so disappointed you're not going out to the cinema that much, but there must have been something Doesn't even have to be a movie from last year if just something over the last year really caught your attention. Okay, because I
Starting point is 00:15:03 Tried Joker fully. I, can't stand it. I tried Maria, the Angelina Jolie, Maria Callas, beautiful set design, nice wigs, great outfits, unbearable movie. I watched- Yeah, cause it's like, it's the same guy who did Spencer and- For hire? And some other lady, you know, just Spencer as in Diana Spencer. like it's the same guy who did Spencer and for hire and some other lady, you know, just Spencer as in Diana Spencer.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Oh, he did that on watchable. Right. He did the one about the one with about Jackie Oh, with Oh, Natalie Portman, Natalie Portman. I mean, that was watchable. He but he does that stuff. Like, it's like, it's 100% set. It's like 99% set design and 1% everything else. There's no story. There's no, I couldn't believe, I was 18 minutes in thinking,
Starting point is 00:15:56 just die. Just already die. Because it feels like actually a long-form Lancome Commercial it just feels like yes a French makeup brand commercial for so long anyway I didn't want to be negative because I know you love movies So I'll tell you what I did see that I did really like and it's not from this year I saw Moana one the first Moana what? Yeah, I had to start from the beginning and I loved it What cuz there's all this hype around Moana to make right say I've got to check out Moana Yeah, I had to start from the beginning and I loved it
Starting point is 00:16:32 Well, I got you know, not great news for you. Oh, I Think the consensus is Moana to feels like they took a TV Series and turned just decided to make it a movie instead and everybody can see that that's what happened. Well, we still have Moana 1. I mean, and it might be if you enjoy those characters, you know, it might be enough, you know, it might, it might work out great for you. What is it you like so much about Moana? The OG Moana. I like I really it's the Jermaine Clement song. This is the shiny crap really Really won me over because I'm so shy He's kind of doing a bowie. I love it. I love it Moana too, I don't know well, then why I don't know enough about those those characters supporting characters in those films
Starting point is 00:17:26 No, I think you need that shiny crab. Okay So that's probably what people are really thinking about wanted to but they're blaming it on the Also, they've say the music's not as good as Moana one because somebody else somebody else did the music But yeah, cuz Lin-Manuel Miranda hopped over to Mufasa, which they say the music in that isn't as good as Lion King. So everybody's this musical chairs is creating inferior music in these sequels. Yeah, musical chairs.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Yeah. All right. So we've got two experiences that are quite musical so far, Complete Unknown and Moana, but I don't imagine that Sam will pull out one of the two musicals that came out this last year from Hollywood for his favorite of the year. What is it, Sam? You were correct. It is not Wicked, although I have seen most of Wicked. And it is if you are a person who likes musicals, I imagine that would be a spectacular view. It'd be quite good. It'd be very, very good if you like these. I like musicals. So yeah, I did. I did like it quite a bit. What about will you even attempt Amelia Perez?
Starting point is 00:18:43 It is on my list. I mean, I always say for a guy who does not care for musicals, I sure seem to see pretty much all of them. Right, because they don't make hardly any of them because everybody walks around talking shit about them all the time. But then suddenly, Wicked's making more money than anything, you know? Yeah, I don't walk around talking shit. I don't shit on you. Just did.
Starting point is 00:19:01 You just said, if I liked musicals, I'd like wicked. How is that not? That's not me shitting on it at all? I'm sure there's a lot of there's a lot of talk with wicked of from the perspective of I don't normally like musicals But I like this one and I feel like when they when people say that there again, they're lying to themselves That they would like musicals, but they were open to more of them No, I'm not lying to myself or anyone. I don't care for the format. I Love that you can't raise your voice at me right now You're right. This is normally where I'd be yelling. I was getting nervous. I was getting nervous. I thought he was gonna
Starting point is 00:19:39 Blow it right out. He just suddenly goes horse. Yeah, he blows out his whole It's worse if you whisper I don't care for the art form. I did think there were too many songs, too many songs in the Lion King. I tried to watch that. What is your non-musical movie that you liked the best this last year? Okay. Well, I've already talked about Will and Harper on this show, which is a documentary available now on Netflix. Yeah, that that's probably my favorite film I saw this year. Okay. Well, I've already talked about Will and Harper on this show, which is a documentary available now on Netflix. Yeah, that that's probably my favorite film I saw this year. Yeah, that's a great, but in terms of like the non documentary Oscar contenders, I think Conclave is probably the best film that I saw. Everybody. Pardon the So everybody pardon the rhyme raves about conclave,
Starting point is 00:20:28 but not conclave themselves. They don't rave about those so much. But, um, yeah, I, I, it's, it's on my gotta see it list. I hear that it is, you know, visually interesting enough that you should see it on a big screen Right, I suppose oh you watch it at home I did watch it at home GD home watcher I know that's the thing and he needs is so there's so little hassle to just watching it. home. There's like several of these big Oscar movies
Starting point is 00:21:07 like Maria and Amelia Perez that are on streamers, but I'm like kind of holding out for if I can manage a big screen experience for these things. But it's a little bit of a game because you don't know which ones are going to get invited to. I tried to see it on the big screen. It was a Telluride where I was at this year and couldn't get into the screening. It's packed. It wouldn't let me in. So he tried. I tried. I wanted to see it on the big screen, Doug.
Starting point is 00:21:43 How hard did you try? Did you sneak by anybody? Did you knock out an usher and put on a uniform? What I did I did I found two ushers who I thought were my approximate size And I pulled them behind a building Cartoon noises with a frying pan hitting something and I showed back up, but they saw through my ruse Any final thoughts about conclave You don't have to be Catholic to appreciate it or like musicals or like musicals or the Pope All right Well, thank you for those recommendations slash favorite slash, you know, whatever whatever pageant was doing
Starting point is 00:22:26 Thank you pageant as well. Let's check out these advertisements. We are back from the advertisements. I told you, it would go by like nothing. It's really we have this service breaks in the biz and let's play we have a nice long chat there so we're have to I don't want to rush people along too much but the first game we're going to play today of two is called New Year's Eve the game the movie and just imagine like colons and a dash in there like ridiculously long sequel title Starting with Gabe I gotta make sure I'm getting this right and then pageant and then Sam
Starting point is 00:23:19 Alphabetical by first name Yeah, right PQRS. Yes, sorry. Carry on. Carry on. I was wrong. We have our tough scientists on this. Oh, I'm going to win so hard. You're so used to being further back in the alphabet when it's only first names, right? You used to be pretty far back there, especially after the, you you know just abrupt suddenness of being Brewster because when it's normally when it's last names you're like right in the front all the time. Yeah Okay, so it's gonna go gave then Padgett then Sam and
Starting point is 00:23:57 You're gonna take turns naming cast members from Gary Marshall's classic motion picture New Year's Eve it's got quite a few actors in it and So if you you know don't remember exactly who was in it you know guesses will probably work because
Starting point is 00:24:21 Boy is there a lot of people in it And I'm now grateful that I have them all here in alphabetical order, because otherwise it'd be very hard to find them when you name them. All right, Gabe, you're up first. Did you see this movie? You know, I feel like I've clicked through this movie on my parents' many HBO channels. Right. Yeah, they play the hell out of it this time of year.
Starting point is 00:24:46 Yeah. Yeah. You're just like, it's 10, 15 and you can't find anything to watch. I believe I've seen a scene with Bon Jovi is Bon Jovi in this movie. Now, so you're asking me, or is that your first? That is my, I feel like when I, when clicked I was like oh look Bon Jovi there's no penalties for for wrong answers but we're playing first person to three points or most when all of the names of it so we don't have to worry
Starting point is 00:25:20 about that happening I don't think but here's the thing Gabe we played this game the reason I'm playing this game this weekend is because the last show of last year I played this game with you know three guests who are pretty good at movie trivia and out of a cast of like you know 35 people 40 people they were able to name three of them so I had to give this game another try just to see how it would go with another set of panelists so Gabe is your first guest is Bon Jovi yes you know I know you probably being on the East Coast you probably you know more familiar with him But most of us know him as John Bon Jovi
Starting point is 00:26:10 and he is in fact in the cast of New Year's Eve Yeah, I went to college with his daughter for two semesters Well, that's you know that's why you just you probably can name every John John Bon Jovi movie. I'm trying to think of one Memphis Bell Nice, I think was the John Bon Jovi. All right, John Bon Jovi joint Padgett, did you see this movie? I think so Remember is a young lady falling backwards into
Starting point is 00:27:01 Like a floral display in a market, so I might be thinking of Valentine's Day. Did you might be yes? Oh, yeah Yeah, quite interchangeable these Valentine's Day and New Year's Day, okay? All right, I'm still gonna throw it out there, but I believe this person is in the New Year's Eve. I mean, excuse me. I believe and Hathaway is in this movie Don't tell me already I'm out no, you know, you're not if you miss. You just don't get a point for that answer. And I don't believe that she is in this movie. But I think you're right that she's in Valentine's Day. That's my problem.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Oh, yeah. And she, of course, I think Gary Marshall directed one or both of the something she was in that Princess Diaries Okay, so sorry You're not on the board like Gabe, but he's only got one. It's not that Insurmountable, but let's see what Sam's got Sam. You've seen this movie. Oh my god. I watch it at least once a month The only way I can properly kick off a month, Doug.
Starting point is 00:28:09 Have you seen it since it came out or just at the initial release? I saw it on an aeroplane a couple months after it came out. Which was what year again? That's so fun. What year was it, Sam? 2010, 2011, somewhere in there. That sounds good. That's so fun. Yeah, what year was it Sam? 10 2011 somewhere in there that sounds good It sounds about right. Yeah, you're trying to think of stars of that time. I'll tell you that
Starting point is 00:28:42 What's weird to watch on a plane is Valentine's Day because all of Bradley Cooper and Julia Roberts their whole Storyline is just them sitting on a plane together. I don't remember. Watching New Year's Eve. Really? That's how great they both are. Yeah. No, that wasn't made yet. They were watching Back to the Future.
Starting point is 00:28:59 All right. So did you guess yet, Sam? I haven't, but I'm going to say Halle Berry. Halle Berry is indeed in New Year's Eve. Yeah, very good. Gabe, you got another one. I feel like I know where this is headed. Yeah, I was going to guess Taylor Swift,
Starting point is 00:29:18 but now I'm thinking that's Valentine's Day. So I'm going to say Julia Roberts. No, I just said Julia Roberts is in Valentine's Day. No, but I sorry, I think she's also in New Year's Eve. She's not involved. No, that's crazy. But Taylor Swift is in Valentine's Day. So you're you're a savants
Starting point is 00:29:39 and sort of knowing sort of what's going on with those. That's how you win this podcast Yeah, you have to sort of know But imagine if you have you come up with a good guess. Here's my next guess. Okay Ashton Kutcher Now that is a fantastic guess Because you know, he of course is in Valentine's Day. Is that what I'm thinking of again? Is that what I'm thinking?
Starting point is 00:30:12 I think it is. Yeah, I think it is. He's not in New Year's Eve. Can I just keep guessing though, people? Cause you know Sam's gonna get it right. Well, yeah, but also Sam might, you know, make you lock in on, you might think of somebody because-
Starting point is 00:30:28 That's a good point. When Sam says it, you'd be like, oh, now I remember they were a couple with. OK. Because everybody's sort of coupled up in it. Thank you. All right, what's your next guess, Sam? I believe Robert De Niro is in the same segment as Halle Berry.
Starting point is 00:30:41 See, that's how it's done. This is like the game show concentration is Sam just Sam just knocked off two squares on the board and he gets to try to guess the puzzle Back to you gave Okay is is Seth Meyers in this movie? I like how you phrase it as a question every time yeah I'm like because I feel like like they all the all the late-night hosts have been in like really random movies and
Starting point is 00:31:15 That just occurred to me that this might be one of the random ones that Seth Meyers is in and now you mentioned when they are in a random movie, it's one of those big cast movies where they have kind of Yeah, low stakes role You know like John John Stewart was in like so I think playing for keeps or something like that Yeah, he's in death to smoochie Film and TV career as an actor for a little bit between talk shows. Yeah. But ended up, you know, becoming our political whatever he is.
Starting point is 00:31:51 All right. So yes, Seth Meyers is in the movie. No, it's good for you, Seth. Yeah. All right, Padgett, did you think of one? Yes. Who do you got? Laura Linney?
Starting point is 00:32:13 Love actually Eric Robert, Robert Patrick. I'm just going to keep going. This is a good reminder to donate to Sam's Indiegogo because this is what they're going to make instead. So you're going to as well make what Sam's making. I'm sure it's great. Sam will never go go if you don't Indiegogo. Name another one, Sam.
Starting point is 00:32:45 Oh, I believe Carrie Always is also in that segment with Halle Marion. Listen Buttercup. That is correct. This is fun. Now this is a game of how long can Gabe hang in there? All the people I can remember from that segment, I think. Is am I up? Oh, goodness. Yeah. Is Laura Dern in this movie? No, but I wish I could give, you know, points for a fun. Who needed a way?
Starting point is 00:33:25 Even the way you said it, just like you're just so over Laura Dern. But more the movie, I love Laura Dern. Yeah, she's great. All right. So, Padgett, what do you got? What? Didn't Sam already get three? Oh, did I say first to three? That's what I thought you said. I'm not trying to buy what I said, but this is so much fun. Give us another one
Starting point is 00:33:48 Meryl Streep She was in Big Little Lies No, I know that I'm trying to think of another a movie that has a big cast It's a dumb movie that she has a small part in but the only thing close to that would be like angels in America And that's that's not dumb It is wild though how many parts she plays in it But no, she's not in I don't think I've seen New Year's Eve she's not in New Year's Eve
Starting point is 00:34:17 Well when you hear who is in it, you're gonna be like, oh, I should have said one of them. Let me see you'll find out Let's Sam. Let's rub it in with one more. Okay, I'm glad. I'm very actually glad this went the way it did because I really can't remember much more than that segment. But I think my co-star, Till Schweiger is in this movie. I think I remember seeing him and going, hey, it's Till. Till Schweiger from Inglourious Bastards
Starting point is 00:34:42 is indeed in this motion picture. Okay I don't remember to what extent. All right there you go. We're calling Sam the winner of New Year's Eve but I'm just grateful for all of you for not only knowing some of the people that were in him and also having a good guesses. You know, I mean, nobody ever was stumped and couldn't guess at all, but, um, hold your applause until the end of it, a race through these because we got to, uh, you know, we got another game to play here today, but in alphabetical My first name order Wait a second who said Ashton Kutcher I did Ashton Kutcher is in it I win you get a point one point yeah but but I gave up early because no that's the you
Starting point is 00:35:47 made it seem like Sam was winning and yeah I'm hurt I'm triggered yeah I win you were you would have thought harder no it's like you would have come up with yeah the correct answer but yeah I'm just realizing as I look at it, that Meryl Streep was also in it. I'm kidding. Sarah Jessica Parker is in this movie. I just remembered that. Yes, Sarah Jessica Parker. He clearly won. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:16 Who else is in it? Also we got Abigail Breslin, ssa Milano Carla Gugino Cherry Jones common Here's one you gotta say when you're playing the trivia game and the subject is Gary Marshall movies Hector Elizondo Who did go by the name Penny Marshall for a while Hillary swank was in this movie
Starting point is 00:36:48 Jessica Abil was in this movie The great Jim Belushi was in the film never seen this film new kid Joey McIntyre was there An unbuilt John Lithgow made an appearance always a delight a Josh a did who the male Mr.. Fergie Is in the film? Liam Michelle gets trapped in an elevator with Zac Efron And then someone thinks that's ludicrous and it turns out he is in fact ludicrous himself Matthew Broderick goes uncredited so these are some smart people not getting their credit in this one
Starting point is 00:37:27 Why do you want to be caught up in this mess Michelle Pfeiffer and then yes, you were right also Padgett Penny Marshall is in this movie knew I should have guessed that right away Russell Peters Ryan Seacrest Sarah Paulson Sofia Vergara this movie is insane how many people are in it and the three of you thought of seven of them we have to go to a break when we come back we come back Sam is indeed the ma'am he will be going first in our Deciding game today. We'll be right back We are back. Thank you for
Starting point is 00:38:13 Sticking with us in those commercials. I know must have been difficult because you're just very excited to find out Who's gonna win this thing today? I know I'm super pumped Who's gonna win this thing today? I know I'm super pumped The game we're gonna play to determine it all in which Sam gets to go first is Called so-and-so and the something something This is a difficult game but a fun game and also a game where anybody could get an easy one and Go home with the gold
Starting point is 00:38:56 When I say so and so in the something something I'm referring to films with titles like James and the giant peach or Eddie and the cruisers Person's name Some other information it's a lot. It's a title. It's it's a format of title. It's used quite a bit probably overused I've made up some new titles for old movies using that formula To give you an example so everybody knows kind of the idea of what I'm talking about Clarice and the purple people eater Silence of the limb yes because Hannibal Lecter
Starting point is 00:39:33 Had a red face a lot of the time. I thought it's cuz he ate grimace any People and of course Clarice starling is that I see what you're doing, okay? Good I've got you that you get it. Yeah, cuz that's what that's what you're here for is to get it First person who guesses which will be Sam Femises it goes to Padgett cuz we Flip the order in the second game and then Gabe will get a shot at it if all three of you miss it We'll just move on to the next one
Starting point is 00:40:13 Whenever someone gets one right the next person in order gets to go first On the next one first to three points or the most after seven we don't have so many as to three points or the most after seven we don't have so many as names in the New Year's Eve movie this is only seven rounds Sam are you ready yes so Doug is your voice still with us okay oh no that would be so creepy. It's terrible It's so funny how they used to whisper the password on the game show password Because like, you know, then they eventually realized well more people can see it. This isn't like radio or you know anyway
Starting point is 00:41:01 But now they brought it back and they think it's funny But it's just like it's the same joke every time there's a guy whispering the clue in a weird way. Plus, I don't like the clues on the password. The new current one, which you may found because it's always stuff like, you know, Tesla or, you know, I mean, it's like, right. Catch phrases and words and stuff. I like a manual eggbeater Exactly that classic password clue Round one Sam Levine. Yep, what movie could be called? Spurgeon and the Messiah crew
Starting point is 00:41:44 deep impact This is not how I expected this to go oh My god, how much of a deep impact scholar are you like how deep are you? They called him fish because Spurgeon was pretty close to sturgeon and right, you know He got the nickname at the Academy and it just stuck and of course the Messiah is the name of the ship Well his nickname in the in the movie is Tanner because his last name is Tanner So everybody just calls him Tanner, but his first name which people are not supposed to know is Spurgeon
Starting point is 00:42:31 I thought and yeah the Messiah crew the Messiah is the the ship that he and other brave men get into to go try and Stop asteroid that's hurtling towards earth. Yes, poor Ron Eldard. He gets blinded by the light. Oh, poor Ron Eldard. He was great on ER. He was. But then when he stepped up to the big leagues, they blinded him. Not to get too off topic here, but you know, John Favreau is in that movie and you know,
Starting point is 00:43:12 he gets blasted off of the comet and shot into space. And there's a quick like a two, three second sequence of him like screaming as he gets blasted away. And he's told this story before. It's like, so Mimi Leder directed that and we're shooting this sequence of just me in a green screen in the stupid suit with the camera right up by my face.
Starting point is 00:43:33 And they did this whole like five minute sequence uncut where it's just like him screaming, no, no, no. And then like just drifting further and further away into space. And he realizes like, no, I'm not gonna get rescued I'm not I'm gonna die like he has to go from like screaming to crying Like this and he's like and she just let it go and it's like the five worst minutes of my life as an actor And I'm so glad it's not in the movie. Oh
Starting point is 00:44:00 He just flies off and they don't go for the close-up. They don't show his face They did for one split second. You just see him like screaming as he's blown off the comment day But I'm sure that's a sad moment because he's probably a comical and likable character before that happens to him Yeah, right. So I mean, I'm you know, you're the one that like yelled out deep impact immediately like You don't have to think about it. Well, like you breathe like you live and breathe deep impact Okay, I watched that movie to close every month right? I had an unfair advantage there
Starting point is 00:44:40 Oh, here's the fun thing that I learned that you know It's probably been out there for a while and everybody's sick of hearing About it, but if you start the movie when Harry met Sally at 1030 on New Year's Eve It'll time out the time out time out so that's the countdown will happen in the movie Right at the actual New Year's Eve time and then there's know, it's like, it's the end of the movie basically. So then like, uh, you know, they can move on and do something else, I guess. Oh, that's great.
Starting point is 00:45:12 Doug, you gotta put on right at like 10 30 and even a few seconds, I think 10 30 and 30 seconds. Well, you can look it up on the internet if you don't, uh, if you don't believe my numbers Okay, so Sam Congratulations, you got a point of a pageant. That means you get to go first on this next one. I'm ready You never know, you know if these things are just gonna come to you or not You don't give it a try. Let's see what you see what you make out of this
Starting point is 00:45:46 Gabe You don't give it a try. Let's see what you see what you make out of this Gabe Like our other guests here gave Malika Gabe and a rocky mountain rescue Stop it stop like you know what it is hold on Gabe and a rocky mountain Last temptation of Christ. Oh, I like it But no Gabe okay, let's go to Gabe himself The
Starting point is 00:46:24 Big chill I have no idea himself. The big chill. I have no idea why I wouldn't, you know, I know every movie and TV show where the characters named Doug on it, I have them all memorized. Why do you not know? No, that would be impossible. But what do you not have
Starting point is 00:46:41 you ever seen a movie and there's like a main character named Gabe and kind of sat there went like hey I feel like that's yeah Yeah, I feel like Gabe's usually like a side character. Maybe that's not true. That's right Maybe that I have to figure that out in therapy, but are they called Gabriel sometimes maybe sure sure yeah, yeah I don't know all right. It's not coming. I thought it was something religious Well Sam was laughing it up over there. I know he knows he He definitely back to he got the dumb like
Starting point is 00:47:09 joke within the within the clue, but Sam Gabe and a Rocky Mountain rescue is what movie I was laughing at Doug's joke. It's cliffhanger. Yes cliffhanger Get it. It's over yeah it's cliffhanger get it it's over it's rocky mountain rescue it's not oh i always you know i saw that movie and i remember liking it all right but uh i always Sylvester Sloan's character's name was Cliff. Left middle name hanger. Mr. Hanger. That's why I got in the game. Okay, so Sam's really running away with this thing, but the important thing is we're having fun. Pad, you get to go first on this next one.
Starting point is 00:48:07 All right. What movie should be called Sam and the situation in swallow falls? Give me a second Sam situation Sam would just want to I'm not Sam as in Sam Levine yes yes yes to appreciate the Situation oh oh Is there a homoerotic movie with the Rockets I appreciate the situation. The situ. Oh, oh.
Starting point is 00:48:50 Is there a homoerotic movie with the rock in it? I can't think of, um, let me think. All of them, if you watch them, right. I guess, I guess. Um, okay. Um, I'm going gonna say point break That's a fun that's a fun place that'd be an interesting setting for a point break I think it just takes place in Los Angeles but Is there actually a place called swallow Falls well, I can't really speak to that What this is Gabe, what do you think?
Starting point is 00:49:25 I think I know this one. I think you do. I think this one's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. It is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Swallow Falls, yeah. Yeah, Sam is the reporter voiced by Amy, Anna Ferris, Anna Ferris, who, you know, she's looking into this whole meatball situation some dumb scientist makes food come fall from the sky and it's that's not gonna work
Starting point is 00:49:52 out so congratulations Gabe you picked up on that but now sadly we turn to Sam. And if he gets this next one, then he is our winner today. But we'll see. Give him your hardest one. Sam, do you accept that challenge? Will you take the hardest one? Sam. Since I always assume you're giving me the hardest one. I can't even. I honestly, it's, it's a sad thing about this game.
Starting point is 00:50:29 Uh, pageant is, you know, I like people to get right answers. I like there to be a winner. So, you know, we usually don't have a three way tie like that one time with Gabe. So these are supposed to get easier as it goes along. So as I look at it, uh, the next one's easy and the one after that is easier than the one after that's the easiest Okay, so I can't really load it up against Sam Just do the next one is scheduled
Starting point is 00:50:58 because I try not you know, I try to not waiver and just give people the The next one in order so Sam What movie? Could be called Monty and his massive money problem Hmm apologies for saying that this one was easy oh Apologies for saying that this one was easy oh I meant you should be able to get it. No. I think I do because I think it took me a second I think Monty's Richard Pryor and Brewster's millions, right? I'm it
Starting point is 00:51:33 ha ha ha ha ha Do you say that whenever you hear your name or did you figure it out? No, it was the only thing I could think of so I would have gotten it right even though I thought I was totally wrong Well, that's that was the thing pageant Brewster's I slipped in all three of your No pageant isn't the main character no Brewster's millions that's all I could think of but it didn't make sense to me because I didn't know. I forgot the character's name was Monty. They made that movie like five times and they just use the same title every time. Like it's weird. But like Richard Pryor is the most most recent unless there must be some movie that really
Starting point is 00:52:18 steals that premise because it's such a kind of seems obvious premise, especially if you want to make fun of consumerism and financial dealings. For anybody who doesn't know, it's about this guy who is given 30 million and he has 30 days to spend it. But then there's all these rules attached to what he can't spend it on. And then if he spends it all in 30 days, then he gets 300 million. So extremely aggravating premise for a movie, because you're just frustrated watching this guy try to figure out, what if I buy this stamp that costs $10 million?
Starting point is 00:52:56 That'll get me close. Well, you can't have anything left over at the end, right? Yeah, you got to get right there. You know, spend it all. Yeah. And then there's all these other dumb rules that you can't like give it to. You can't buy gifts. You can't give it away. You can't. You know, so it's like you have to eat it, fly it. You got to set the whole I said to the whole movie, just trying to think about
Starting point is 00:53:19 how I would fucking do this. Yeah. What I would buy. Like I can't even concentrate on the dumbass movie because I'm like Trying to figure it out myself anyway Congratulations to Sam Levine. Thank you you win today you'll so-and-so Would you like to? promote of course we're gonna hear about that
Starting point is 00:53:42 Indiegogo thing one more time you are also I have to point out I hesitated giving that answer because when you said the clue I initially thought about the movie a million to one with Paul Rodriguez Was like it can't be that he's named one Right, but it's I could have had a buddy this has a major role named Monty But it's I could have had a buddy this you know has a major role named Monty That's what Richard Pryor's name is Montgomery Monty Brewster yeah, all right Look here are my two plugs the of course you can always find me on cameo I had to turn it off for a little while on account of the not speaking
Starting point is 00:54:21 But it's back on as of whenever this episode drops so come find me on cameo but much more importantly than that you should have done cameos where you like hold up cards with stuff written on it like people would have been so not at all disappointed from an in excess video or does it go even further back than that yeah it goes further back because the in excess video is doing a parody, not parody, but like copying Bob Dylan's Bob Dylan. That's what it was. Thank you. Yeah. Okay. Sorry, Sam. Go ahead. That's okay. Indiegogo, Indiegogo, Indiegogo. And the title of our project is Fiendsgiving. Like you're a fiend, Fiends giving. And yeah, we're just, we think that people

What's does he have a name? He does he have a gender? He does he have a gender? It's he's male presenting. Yes, no, I'm I'm the guy. I play a tech bro douchebag.
Starting point is 00:55:55 He gives it gives presence. There are there are no presence. He brings post. He brings postage. Is he brings postal packages. Yes. It's it's a riff on Thanksgiving, Doug. Yeah, I get it. OK. Where do we find it?
Starting point is 00:56:14 If we want to go to your go, find me page. What do we look up? Fees giving or in Indiegogo is the platform. And I imagine if you just go to Indiegogo and search Feens giving, it should come up Otherwise, right the link for it is in my Instagram bio Yeah, it's fun typing a word like fiends giving because you get you get to you know fight back against the robot that that's not a word Thank you Sam, thank you Doug
Starting point is 00:56:43 Padgett Brewster, what's going on? What's when when is there more criminal minds? I don't know. We just finished We just finished season 3 of the Paramount Plus criminal minds, which is like What is that season 18 or something and I think I think it's gonna start sometime on Paramount Plus in the spring, but I'm not sure they haven't told us yet Oh, okay. Do you have anything you want to plug? I shot a short film called Barkat Abdi the greatest actor in the world, but I don't know if it's come out yet I'm just the trouble with normal season to drop
Starting point is 00:57:24 Okay, I'm just the trouble with normal season to drop Boy that was a long time ago. Yeah, I don't know if I have anything to promote I am gonna promote Sam on cameo Samio now that he's got his voice back. Awesome. Gabe Malika, what's going on with you, dude? It's about my dad, who's a horse lawyer and a lot of jokes and stories and it's a fun time So come check it out before I bring it to Edinburgh in New York So he's a horse that Practices law. Yeah, basically like yeah kind of a take on caveman lawyer. Yeah Yeah And they became a lawyer and the story of how it happens kind of crazy
Starting point is 00:58:27 And he's kind of he's living this insane life And so we're sort of doing parallel my life and his life at the same age and it's fun Yet sounds I be a die very excited about all your projects and you're always welcome to Come back and discuss them here.
