Starting point is 00:00:00 Lights are going up, snow is falling down, there's a feeling of goodwill around town. It could only mean one thing, McRib is here. People throwing parties, ugly sweaters everywhere, stockings hung up by the chimney with care. It could only mean one thing McRib is here! at participating McDonald's for a limited time Doug hates candy wrappers screaming baby sticky seats with fizzy ads and popcorn kernels in his teeth there's still not one that he won't see
Starting point is 00:00:42 cause Doug loves movies. Hey, hey, hey everybody, my name is Doug and I love holiday movies not very many of them But some this is Doug loves movies recording on Sunday, December 8th 2024 and we've got a special very special episode For today. It seems to only happen to this one guest of mine Who he has been on primor episodes where there was only one other guest? Than than anyone in the history of the show That's right. We've got a two guest episode and my guests are
Starting point is 00:01:23 Sabrina Jalis and Jeff Tate. Hello. Oh my God. It's us again. Hey, everybody. This is so exciting because, uh, the two of you, it's like we just got rid of, you know, uh, Carlos Figueroa was on with the two of you, uh, just like a week ago. the two of you just like a week ago and he lost but the two of you tied for first place and I invited you both back with the intention of having a third guest but our third guest is stuck in
Starting point is 00:01:58 traffic. Our third guest was murdered by Carlos Figueroa. Oh, no. I should have said kidnapped. I thought you could take it. Or how about detained? Detained. Our third guest was detained. I bet our third guest heard how good we were last time and they're like, you know what, I'm not going to be made a fool of on a Sunday. Not on the Lord's Day. If I had to guess,
Starting point is 00:02:29 the third guest doesn't even know what Douglas movies is because it was arranged through publicist and sometimes that gets a little scripty. But every once in a while, it creates pure gold because I've met some really cool people that I would not have had on the show If it weren't for publicist so publicist if you're listening Continue pitching people to me because I love having Interested interesting guests. I'm even gonna plug this guy's thing that he was gonna plug
Starting point is 00:03:00 On the show just because it sounds cool. It's they're doing a Dexter like origin story called Dexter colon original sin and it's a series that's going to be on paramount plus starting on Friday and One of the actors was going to be with us and his name is Carlo Mendez, but also Carlo Carlos I can really really building a case against Carlos Figueroa that Jealousy and it's something nefarious is why Carlo isn't here But let's meet the two guests that are here shall we enough yapping about what could have been Let's talk about what's really going down Enough yapping about what could have been let's talk about what's really going down
Starting point is 00:03:51 First of all if we're going alphabetically by first name we have a strong competitor Who ended up in a tie on his last outing and his name is Jeff Tate hello Jeff hello? Thank thanks for having me back. Do you feel welcome? Do you enjoy the Dexter's show? I've never seen it You've never seen any of it. No, I didn't have even time until recently Not even the season where John Lithgow plays the Trinity killer No, I'm see I'm scared see that seems that sounds too scary Trinity seems like it might be biblical and yeah, it's Traumatizing. Yeah, well and John Lithgow is just he's very good at playing insanely creepy evil Individuals I know I've never seen raising cane for the exact same reasons
Starting point is 00:04:34 Will you eat at a raising game? Oh, yeah for sure Because we're getting one in Hollywood finally, so I forget where what is this restaurant called raising canes? It's a chicken fried chicken establishment that is You know only in certain parts of the country. So I thought you were saying raisin raisin canes Yeah, these long sticks that they glue to them and you chew them off It's like a vegan beef jerky. Yeah
Starting point is 00:05:10 What about okay, well let's introduce our next guest cuz here for a rematch Because the two of you tied on your last appearance. It's Sabrina Julie's hold for applause hold for applause long audio bow. Thank you guys. Jalis Navidad. Jalis Navidad to all of you. It's almost Jalis Navidad time. Yeah, well, we played, this is the episode
Starting point is 00:05:38 where we started playing the Christmas version of the theme song. Oh, nice. So shout out to, that's Garfunkel and Oates singing that. And I don't know how long ago they recorded it, but I love being able to use it every day. I hope you did a buyout, Doug. I hope you bought them out so they're not getting-
Starting point is 00:05:59 We did a buyout call. Will you record this song? Sure. Okay. Perfect. Doug, I see Carlos Mencia is trying to get into? Sure. Okay. Perfect. Deal. Doug, I see Carlos Mencia is trying to get into the chat. No.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Will that do the trick? I hope. If he does show up, he'll probably just say the same things that Carlos Mencia was going to say. Which is, what is this podcast and how does that do? I don't know if Carlos Mencia, I don't know if he's tracked me in our careers. I've tracked him because the first time I met him, we were in Acapulco doing, what was the name?
Starting point is 00:06:37 It was a dumb, you know, standup comedy show. There was like, it was an hour long and they'd go to different clubs each episode all throughout the United States And then they decided to do some in other countries, so I got to do a cup of cocoa and Carlson see it was one of the other comics and I met him there and he was like I mean he was nobody at that point and he was still just a Very very solid ego going for him.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Look, he was nobody, but he was doing somebody's jokes. Yeah, I don't know how early the, uh, the, the thievery set in, you know, cause I don't know if it was like he ran out of material, you know, and then had to start lifting or if he was just doing that. I think once a lifter, always a lifter. You don't just start lifting or if he was just doing that I think once a lifter always a lifter Just start lifting Right. Well, don't people get desperate after like, you know, like taping their first thing and then now they've got to come up with Yeah, but that person's gonna that person's gonna hire a writer
Starting point is 00:07:39 But right it's like if it's based based on my own shoplifting It really peaks when you're like 12 13 and everything left over after is just, sort of like it's poking out of your pores even though you're not supposed to. I think a stand-up comedian, I mean, good for them if they can afford and like working with a writer and then standing up there
Starting point is 00:08:01 and never giving that writer credit. You never hear comedians talk about who their writer is. And you know, good for them that they can work that out. But like to me, standup comedy is getting up there and saying your shit. Like it's like, even when I've hosted like comedy shows on TV and writers wrote what I, you know, something that I say,
Starting point is 00:08:21 I never feel entirely comfortable saying it. You know, it's just so much better when it comes from your own brain. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it would be funny to end your standup act with credits. I guess maybe some specials might, you know, like the thank yous basically is, is hiding that they had people come up with some of their jokes, you know, and a lot of comedians have like You know little help here and there, you know, like I've gotten like tags and stuff into people's
Starting point is 00:08:53 sets that have you know then gone on, you know TV with it or whatever, but Speaking of watching things. Yeah was I I finally got around to seeing your movie Sabrina Called I used to be funny Thank you. You know I wrote and directed it Well, you know it's your movie in the sense that you're probably the person from it involved in it that I know and speak to and but I think everybody in it's terrific and how long ago did you shoot that two or three years about two years ago yeah we shot it in Toronto and then I remember it was like a long gap
Starting point is 00:09:39 between that when we shot it and it got into South by Southwest almost like a year after. Right, that's so slow. We were at, my girlfriend and I were at South by, this last year, we go every year, and got fired up for that movie, but I've got shows to do and stuff and there's other movies we wanna see.
Starting point is 00:09:59 So we didn't see it at South by, even though we were interested in it because it stars Rachel Senate, who is great and she plays a comedian in the movie. Has she ever actually done stand-up? Yeah, she actually started as a stand-up, I believe and then she just sort of took off as an actress, but she's so talented and like there was a scene that was very emotional. And I've done more comedy.
Starting point is 00:10:28 I acted on a sitcom. And if I'm doing parts, they're generally funny parts. So I haven't really bit. This was sort of my first movie where I was doing serious scenes that were kind of verge of tears. And we got to set, and we're shooting this serious scene and like between takes we always shoot the shit and so we're the cameras on her it's her coverage and she's doing this intense scene and between takes she's not joking
Starting point is 00:10:54 around she's like staying really like you know like just bummed and I remember like thinking in my head like well Rachel's being a bitch today you don't know what the hell got into her until it was my time It was my cover just at the end and I'm like, oh, yeah It actually makes a lot more sense to stay in this in this mood where you feel like you're on the verge of tears And not like break character every time they reset So that was a cool a cool lesson be a bitch and in the serious scenes you got to be a little bitch between takes well, I was a little bitch watching it because
Starting point is 00:11:30 Between the title I used to be funny and starring you know you and and several funny people are in the movie I thought there would be more humor. You know, but this isn't, I'm not knocking it at all. It's a terrific movie. It's just like, but it's much heavier than I expected it to be. Yes, it's very heavy. It's, but I think that it's also building, like it's interesting, you know, when you're a comic,
Starting point is 00:12:01 for me, I frame a lot of like styles as like the setup and the punch, you know, when you're a comic, for me, I frame a lot of like styles as like the setup and the punch, you know, it's like the whole, there's something so satisfying I feel with that movie with the ending, where it's like you're going through a lot of emotional shit. But when you get to the ending, I feel like the beat kicks in something happens, I won't ruin it. But really to me it feels like it's like it's so worth the journey. Yeah and also even though it's a drama like the scenes that take place in the comedy clubs in the movie are funny but also they're not they don't have that thing that, that just absolute phoniness that usually occurs whenever any movie has scenes that are about comedians and in a club. Like it was one of the most realistic depiction of comedians and backstage that I've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Yeah, well actually Ali, that club that it was shot at was Comedy Bar in Toronto and Ali Panky who's the writer and director, super talented, she just directed this episode of Black Mirror that I had a small part in, but she's like completely taking off and she, we used to run around Toronto to party and do, but she also, she was never a stand-up comic but one of these people that was very interested in comedy and she was always around the scenes. So she, I think it was important to her to cast people who were real stand-ups and all those parts that for anyone who was on stage, it was a real comic that had real material. So, yeah. Was the interior, everything that took place at the comedy bar was at the actual comedy
Starting point is 00:13:43 bar in Toronto? Yes, yeah. Because, you know, I've played there and of course, so I recognize the outside, there's a one shot of Rachel standing out in front of the club. But then when they went inside, I wasn't really sure of the, I didn't remember being on stage being able to look to the right and see like the bar. I don't remember that. It was the green room.
Starting point is 00:14:04 It's more the green room. Yeah. It probably felt like a bar because it was a lot of people hanging out there and drinking. It was a green room to the right. And I think they also spruce that up recently. I'm actually going to be in Toronto at the Comedy Bar December 22nd, but the show is sold out unless they've released tickets. I don't know. I'm just listening to this and you're into it. Go down there and just stand around.
Starting point is 00:14:31 I think there actually I think there actually might be some tickets because they didn't use all my comps. Oh, OK. Yeah. Maybe two or three. You could be the last person to get the last last minute release, as they say. That's right. T alright, so a great job being in a movie and Now it's time to talk about Movies, I guess you could recommend a movie or in but today Sabrina. We're looking for I'll make Jeff go first, but I'd like both of you to recommend a
Starting point is 00:15:03 Holiday movie it doesn't have to be about the holidays could just be something that you like I'll make Jeff go first, but I'd like both of you to recommend a holiday movie. It doesn't have to be about the holidays. It could just be something that you like to watch around the holidays. You think others would enjoy seeing this time of year. What do you got for me, Jeff? Batman Returns. Okay. That's a Christmas movie.
Starting point is 00:15:22 It is because why? There's all kinds of Christmas stuff There's like a big Christmas tree thing. I know it's very wintry. I remember in the beginning So, you know that well, I know of course whenever you see the penguin He's like lives in his own like kind of ice cave or something right? Yeah. But that's the idea in the movie is that it's supposed to be like Christmas day happened during the story. I don't know if they if now I can I think it's Christmas time.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Right. I don't know if it's I don't know if Christmas day happens. They don't acknowledge it if it does right? Okay, but it's just it's very wintry like when like when Christopher walk and die spoiler He like falls falls from a building and you know lands in snow, right? Yeah And there's there's like Christmas lights and decorations around And there's there's like Christmas lights and decorations around Yeah, now i'm trying to think of like
Starting point is 00:16:33 I guess the first batman directed by tim burton wasn't supposed to be any particular type of time of year But there was you know, it was a time of year where there was a parade. I remember that Yeah, but he threw that parade so it wasn't like an annual parade It was a one-off it was a joker distraction parade. So it wasn't like an annual parade. It was a one off. It was a Joker distraction parade. Yeah. He was trying to do some something menacing, but needed to get people's attention focused elsewhere. Right. I think that would take place. That feels like early spring or late fall.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Right. So it's still like top coats. There's still top coats, but no snow. Yeah. But with like all those blow up, uh, you know, those balloons, it had very Macy's parade vibe to it. So like, Oh wait, are you saying? So Batman's a Thanksgiving movie and Batman returns is a Christmas movie. I like this. I would like to float that idea. Yeah. All right, Sabrina, what would you like to recommend that's
Starting point is 00:17:32 Oh, I have a holidays. I have a recommendation, but I'm so nervous that I'll have to talk about it for as long as you guys talked about Batman. So you don't have that much. I don't feel I just I'm sort of scrambling here but I know follow up questions. No follow up questions. The answer is red I'm sort of scrambling here, but I just... Are you saying no follow-up questions? No follow-up questions, please. The answer is Red One. Don't ask me anything. I went to the movies with my son. We saw Red One. I find The Rock to be a soothing character on the big screen.
Starting point is 00:17:59 I also like that Nick Kroll was in it as like a villain. And what else? You know, that Santa... also liked that Nick Kroll was in it as like a villain. And what else, you know, that Santa, it's like fun to go to the theaters and watch a new holiday movie. Look, the truth is- So you were kind of mentally checked out. Red Ones publicist contacted me and they really wanna get the word out.
Starting point is 00:18:21 It's too late for the big, actually, I think they probably did pretty good on the box office, But they just want a little extra eek. So they said that it was actually my publicist, who's my publicist for my comedy bar show. And they also rep the movie Red One. And so I'm just doing them a favor, see if they see if I can skip paying that $5,000 a month. Well, let me at home, Republicans are $5,000 a month. Well, let me- For the people at home, Republicans just serve $5,000 a month.
Starting point is 00:18:46 I'll talk about that for a while. Let me ask Jeff the follow-up questions because you saw it, right? No. What? Red one? Yeah. It's called Red One.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Santa is kidnapped, baby. Hang on. J.K. Simmons. OK, that felt like something I dreamt. Did you see it? No, it's like everything I've seen about it feels like it seems like something that would be on like a 30 Rock cut away. Yeah, the pro. J.K. Simmons is ripped by the way. Oh yeah, I bet.
Starting point is 00:19:23 So strong. He had a giant fake hog in that Saturday night Because he plays Milton Berle and I guess no girl would just if he's arguing with somebody would just take his Junk out just to be like shut up I wonder if wearing that giant fake hog made him go like I'm gonna be a a beefcake. Cause he's, I don't remember him this way. He's simply rich. Did you ever see Palm Springs with No, I should have.
Starting point is 00:19:53 Andy Samberg and Kristen Maloney. I love it. I really liked that. Put it on a list because whatever list you want to put it on because it's a terrific movie. It's pretty, it's much darker than you would think it's gonna be but
Starting point is 00:20:08 JK Simmons plays a guy that's very menacing and I seem to recall being kind of surprised by his physique in that That like this guy's really When he's not doing those farmers insurance ads, he's at the gym. Mm-hmm He's at the gym. How did we get off on that? Oh, so that I didn't want to talk about anything to do with the movie. So at all costs, I diverted, whether it's JK Simmons, Big Hog or publicist and how much they cost. I thought that the promos for that movie were some of the worst I've seen
Starting point is 00:20:41 in a while because it just felt like they're hiding something because the promo just is mostly that big like polar bear attacking the rock and then the polar bear gets like cut in half and then it puts itself back together and and Chris Evans his face is like what but he Chris Evans doesn't even look like he's looking in the right. Like the way it's cut together is so bad. And then I've heard that that fucking end of and it's the middle of the posters that bear. But I don't know if you can confirm this or not, Sabrina. But I've heard that the bear is barely in the movie, barely in the movie.
Starting point is 00:21:21 Barely. It's true. Their working title for the film was the Barely There Bear. Exactly. Exactly. And that's why I don't want to talk about it. But I do want to recommend it because I do want to brag that I went to a movie theater. Well I heard that Carlo backs you up on Red One. But Carlos does not. Wait a second. Are we talking, are we back to Mencia or are we talking? Oh, I don't even know what Mencia thinks about it.
Starting point is 00:21:53 He thinks whatever you think. Yeah. Here's another crazy thing. Did you, when I told you the actor's name, Carlo Mendez, does that ring any bells? the Menendez brothers That will ring in my head too. Oh, there's a third one you both have bad Actual famous Mendez Eva Mendez. Oh
Starting point is 00:22:21 Eva Mendez his brother. Oh Okay, guess what I'm looking him up right now and he's got he's got JK Simmons syndrome what he's ripped Ripped in a huge hog Makes more sense people watch Dexter, but he plays like a younger version of a character named Hector on Hector Dexter Well, thank you for those recommendations since it's a season of giving let's give these ads a listen, all right I love you, right? so much Today's episode is brought to you in part by Shopify

I love the ads and we both hope that you ordered everything that was was being sold order one for everyone, you know It's not even like it's like it's like websites are the seem to be like doing the most
Starting point is 00:27:05 advertising on podcasts I feel like they've they think like well if a person is listening to a podcast or watching a podcast they probably got the ability right there to type in you know our comm and come and buy our service whatever you know whatever it is they're offering. Great. I mean, how, how they make it so easy. All you do, and then you punch in the code. Doug loves movies. I don't know. The thing is it's, they keep every, everybody that buys ad time changes
Starting point is 00:27:37 what they want you to put as the code. So everyone gets confused. So I think that last ad break, there might have even been commercials back-to-back Where in one I say all lowercase DLM and the other one I say DLM all uppercase So good luck out there everybody Our first game today is the new one that I just made up and I'm excited that Jeff ended up being here today because I think he's gonna Like the the name of this game
Starting point is 00:28:09 It's called go big or go home alone Here's how it works Sabrina and Jeff I will state a movie fact fun or otherwise and that is your job to tell me What movie it applies to between the choices that you heard in the title of the game go big or go home alone Is it go or big or? Home alone amazing. I love it or home alone. Amazing. I love it. You Jeff gets to go first.
Starting point is 00:28:50 If he misses that Sabrina, you have a shot at it. And then if you miss, I'll just tell you all the answer and nobody gets a point. That's how we'll do this. Normally if there's three players, I like the third person to get a free point just for fun, but with the two of you, this is, you know, it's going to be intense. So there's no reason for anybody to get any freebies. There's seven rounds, but let's see. Yeah. first person to three points is our winner We'll do seven if we have to Well actually won't have to because you get the idea
Starting point is 00:29:39 Because you know if well actually who knows how many rounds will need my this might even end in a tie now that I think About it alright, so here's the first one Jeff if you miss it Sabrina gets a shot at it which movie between go big or Home alone has a character in it named officer Balzac Yeah in it named officer ball sack yeah first Jeff Jeff this is for Jeff all right I'm gonna say go it's my show I'm not gonna leave I'm sorry that's incorrect. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:27 Is it big or Home Alone that has a character in it named Officer Balzac? Oh, it's Home Alone, baby. That is the correct answer. Congratulations, Sabrina. You figured it out. I'm so excited because I've seen all three of these movies well, and also I Think cops show up for one reason or another in all three of the movies So you know it wasn't an easy one unless you remember ballzac cuz you know that's whoever came up with that as a juvenile sensibility and So it makes sense for home alone and the character is played by the great Larry Hankin
Starting point is 00:31:08 Who you might know as mr.. Heckles on the TV show friends? He's that guy that character actor all right, so Sabrina's on the board Jeff you're up first Yeah, it's one hour and 44 minutes long Big go or home alone Big big is one hour and 44 minutes Go is one hour 43 minutes and home load is one hour 42 minutes. Oh my gosh. Yeah, they're all just like What yeah? Strangely same length and also in all three cases I grant them that that extra 12 minutes
Starting point is 00:31:54 But most movies of their ilk should only be 90 minutes long That's right. That's my feeling How long is I used to be funny was it is about a buck 40 I'd say it's the perfect time amount. I don't know how long it is But whatever you'd say is perfect for that style of movie. I definitely wasn't too long I'll give you that perfect. All right, Sabrina. It's your turn my time Is it big go or home alone that has two Academy Award winners in it Okay, big go or home alone. I don't think go had the Academy Award winner
Starting point is 00:32:40 Go had Scott wolf Which was my beard growing up because I wanted to be Scott Wolf when he was having sexual intercourse with Jennifer Loved you it on party of five, but that's neither here nor there Answer to the question the answer is gonna be big You're gonna say big Based on what you just said. I Think go didn't didn't have the girth And then home alone should have had the girth and then Home Alone should have had the
Starting point is 00:33:07 girth but the big JK Simmons hog of star quality I would say goes to big give it to me done Home Alone of course has the Oscar winner Sarah Pauley. Yes. But Big not only has two wins for Mr. Hanks, but also the woman who plays his mother in Big Mercedes' Rule is an Oscar winner. That's right. That's right. And I famously was in a movie of the week with her called Mom at 16.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Oh, really? That's right. I played a pregnant teen. Oh my goodness. And she was your mother? Yes. Oh, really? That's right. I played a pregnant teen. Oh my goodness. And she was your mother? Yes, it was the early 2000s. And I did a Latina accent in my audition, then felt really weird about it after I got
Starting point is 00:33:54 cast. And then I showed up and I just acted like lesbian me. No accent, no character, just a lesbian that's pregnant at 16. And nobody missed it? Nobody was like, where was that awesome accent from your luggage? I think that they were, even though it was just the early 2000s and people didn't know, you know, a lot had not happened yet, they still felt as weird as I felt about, they probably felt weirder about asking me to do the accent for this teen that was pregnant and deciding to keep the baby and go into open adoption.
Starting point is 00:34:27 I, I, do you think this is available for viewing? Oh, it is. In fact, I bought a bootleg copy of it in Thailand. It's out there, they're on DVDs in Thailand and I bet you could probably VOD it. What's it called again? Mom at 16. It kind of looking back with sort of a propaganda anti-abortion Jane Krakowski was in it as well. Whoa Yeah All right. Well, it's funny that all your knowledge of Mercedes rule didn't
Starting point is 00:34:59 You just went with big just cuz of Hanks, right? I went with Big because of Hanks. I did not know that my former co-worker would be there, but every time they said her name, I remember thinking, uh, A Doyle Rules. Like I would say her name in my mind, like Mercedes Rules. Okay, like Cider House Rules. Yes. All right, Jeff, it's your turn. You know, it's like a raisin on a cane really. Sorry. Ready, Jeff? Yeah. It made 8.2 million in US and Canada on its opening weekend.
Starting point is 00:35:43 There's some mental math here. Go, I'm going to say go. Again, I'm not leaving, but that is incorrect. Damn it. Oh my God. Between Home Alone and Big, 8.2 million. Wait, 8.2 million is what it made in opening weekend. 8.2 million. First three
Starting point is 00:36:08 days. Wow. Well, Big was made before Home Alone, which would make the 8.2 million a bigger weekend. Because it feels like both of those movies must have been huge unless Home Alone had like a weird build that I was not aware. I'm gonna go with big. I feel, wait, can I change it? Can I change it? I mean, you can, yes. I can, okay. Because I just, as I said it, I was like, wait a second,
Starting point is 00:36:38 the last two answers have been big. So why would Doug stack so many bigs? I'm going home alone, baby! The answer's big. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I don't want to change it, I don't want to change it. I don't want to change it. I'm sorry I forced you to change it. No, you should have just immediately said that I was right and then I wouldn't have changed it
Starting point is 00:37:06 But you were right in the sense that you were talking about the idea that you know a movie can be pretty successful But not have a huge opening weekend back then because you know movies were booked into theaters for you know they they Intended for them to maybe get word of mouth and start to make even more money You know yes like there's something about Mary wasn't a huge hit until its fourth weekend. Wow. But in this particular case, Go opened at 4.7 million and then it struggled to be honest. It wasn't a big hit, but then Big opened with 8.2 million and Home Alone was an immediate rocket of money because it opened at 17 million. You know, when they talk about this episode on the internet, they're gonna notice this is the point where Sabrina sort of got downtrodden and sad.
Starting point is 00:37:58 That's what they're gonna famously they're gonna say there's plenty of time plenty of time to To wait I was gonna talk talk you into turning this around, but you just I think you just won you got you you got That one right right yeah It's just turned again Which one was released in 1990? Home Alone. That is correct. Was that easy?
Starting point is 00:38:36 It was so easy. How did you know it was 1990 Jeff? I just knew that like big big was 88 and Go was 99. How do you know that in your head? I don't know. I don't know how I know these things. That's crazy. There's so many things I wish I knew. Right.
Starting point is 00:38:59 And then something like this you never really needed to know. No. You were very accurate on all three years. Cause I, you know, I had to pick which one was the hardest to guess at and just big in home alone being so close together. I figured it'd be easy to screw those up. They do this game on let's make a deal all the time where they'll put up like five movie titles and they'll say to the contestant,
Starting point is 00:39:25 they'll say to the trader, they'll say, uh, which two of these movies came out the same year? And I'm always just like, Oh, I can't even, you know, unless it's like Barbenheimer or something. I don't remember the years are my downfall. It's very, I can never tell you what year a movie came out I mean not never there's some I could tell you when Star Wars came out everybody knows that was 1947 all right so we have a tie game and Sabrina is up first on this next one here we go and having seen all these movies yeah this kind of game is I figured somebody would maybe not have seen go or not have ever gotten around to big
Starting point is 00:40:07 I mean it's everybody's team home alone. It feels like but anyway Which one of those three movies was Melissa McCarthy's? movie debut Melissa McCarthy? Well, you have to actually think about it. I do. Interesting. Do you know it, Jeff?
Starting point is 00:40:33 Yeah. Because it feels like if she would have debuted in Big or Home Alone, then that would have been too early. She would have been bigger sooner. And Go was the latest. I'm gonna say Go. I don't know about that logic, but you are correct. It was Go.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Yay! You could have been like a little kid in one of those other movies. No, but it doesn't make sense. Like if you follow me starring in Mom at 16 in 1933, then the build makes sense, you know? Well, you figured it out. Regardless, she's Katie Holmes's roommate.
Starting point is 00:41:16 And when they go looking for her, she like answers the door and is all flirty with- Scott Wolf? Is it Scott Wolf, Jeff Jeff or is it Timothy Oliphant? I think it must be Scott Wolf because Scott Wolf and Jay Moore show up and she gets all excited that these two men showed up at her door. Yeah. Yeah. I think because once, uh, cause like Olafant was just with Katie Holmes for a lot of it. Mm hmm. So yeah, it was those two. She was Katie Holmes' sister, though, or roommate?
Starting point is 00:41:48 Maybe roommate. That was such a good movie. It's so good. Yeah. And, you know, and also it was just pointed out to me recently that it takes place around Christmas time, so that makes it a Christmas movie. I want to redact my red one and I want to say go Okay, I would have said go except I said it a couple of weeks ago. Yeah on here
Starting point is 00:42:14 I guess that's when we started talking about it being Christmasy. Yeah Was back then that was what that's what put it into my into my head that it's a Christmas movie and big of course It's not technically a Christmas movie, but the amount of time they spend in that toy store makes it really feel like a kind of a good movie to see around the holidays. Oh yeah. With that whole FAA Schwartz sequence. And just the fact that he works at a company that makes toys makes it, you know, got Christmas adjacent.
Starting point is 00:42:46 All right, well, final question was going to be The final fact was does not have the song deck the halls in it those three movies only one of them doesn't have the song deck the halls and Of course as I just described. It's the one that's not a Christmas movie. It's big but Sabrina won that game, but you know what that means We'll be back with another exciting game after these words We are back and Sabrina won the first game so Sabrina gets to go first in our second game
Starting point is 00:43:23 That's going to determine who's the winner in this Rematch Between the Titan Jeff. It's all leading up to this. This is where we decide who's the winner. This is gonna decide it. Okay Okay, never come play if you ever come play on the show in person we do a 90 minute show so you get you get three play, if you ever come play on the show in person, we do a 90 minute show. So you get you get three games, but on the zoom version, that's an hour. We just have time for two games usually. So I feel like I'm always getting roped into something a little bit deeper with whenever
Starting point is 00:43:57 I come on your show. It's like, and then you'll be back and it's almost like a time share, but like a time share I'm happy that I bought. Oh, good. The other ones you have buyers remorse no no buyers are Morris buyer all right thrill well the game That's gonna decide it all today something called whose tagline is it anyway? holiday edition I'll name a movie. There's a slightly different rules to the game than usual Jeff
Starting point is 00:44:22 I'll name a movie, and then I'll read you three taglines For the movie and you have to guess which one is legit There's two that are pure baloney One that isn't a phony Much like our first game today If if the first person misses, the second person gets a crack at it. And with three players, there's always somebody gets the point on each one. So now hopefully we won't end up in another tie, but we'll have to cross that bridge when we get there.
Starting point is 00:45:06 Sabrina won that last game, so Sabrina gets to go first, and then it goes to Jeff for a guess. If Sabrina doesn't know it. Yeah, you think? Yeah, I think Sabrina's gonna know. Okay. Oh, this is kind of a fun game. Maybe I'll ask you to Just make a guess and what you think the tagline would be of the movie and then I'll give you the options The film is home alone to lost in New York and I have to guess what the tagline is. Yeah, he's just'd be fun for you to make one up on the spot, but. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:48 Concrete Jungle, where Kevin McAllister is doing the step from the first movie. You know what? It's not it's not bad compared to the three options you have here. Oh, wow. All right. The first one you have here. Oh, wow. All right The first one is left over nobody likes leftovers the second one is Mack is back and The third one is First he was home alone now. He's lost in New York Honestly, which one do you think it is? I want it to be three and I think it might be
Starting point is 00:46:33 three and I think it's so hilarious that that's like just like the sort of the way the sausage is made and when you think about like network notes on a project, it feels like very like, it's like something that someone said in a meeting and they're like, yeah, yeah. And then nobody was like, but wait, it's not clever at all. That's what happens. Okay, so I'm going three.
Starting point is 00:46:58 Three is correct. Truth in advertising is so important. And I don't think people started calling him Mac until later, but I don't know I don't remember the timeline on that but Congratulations, you figured out that first ones to bring enough. Thank you Jeff you're up next and I'd like you to guess what you think the tagline would be for planes trains and automobiles Any which way you can they just take the name of a yes all right which one of these is the real tagline for planes trains and automobiles the last place he wanted to spend Thanksgiving was with him or pack
Starting point is 00:47:48 in the laughter or a comedy that will transport you. I think it's the first one. You think it's the last place he wanted to spend Thanksgiving was with him. Yes. Incorrect. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, sometimes a dumb girl gets to win. You don't gotta be too smart to win. What do you think it is? Oh me? Yeah, do you want the other two options? Oh yeah, sorry, I just was celebrating the Jeff Lost. It's either pack in the laughter or a comedy that will transport you. It's either pack in the laughter or a comedy that will transport you it's either one terrible tagline or another Pack in the laughter. I'd say pack in the laughter back in the laughter is the correct answer. Should I be in marketing? I'm like first of all, I'm like shake in my boots
Starting point is 00:48:40 Whatever I hear Jeff talk about movies and he knows all of the dates of all the releases of all these movies I'm like you simply are about movies and he knows all of the dates of all the releases of all these movies I'm like you simply are I have full imposter syndrome I don't even belong I don't even belong here and now a game that's made me feel smart Well, let's see how he does on this next one Jeff what do you think the tagline should be for the polar express? tagline should be for the polar express. Um, that's that, that is that, that just says, no, thank you.
Starting point is 00:49:09 It says the polar express. No, thanks. I don't think they go that negative, but you'll be interesting to hear what you think of these three because it's either this holiday season dot dot dot believes. holiday season dot dot dot believes or that chocolate is hot exclamation point or don't take rides from strangers oh man I wanted to be the chocolate one but I'm I would guess I think it's the first one? This holiday season, Believe? Yeah, and Magic. No, that's the end of it. There's no more. Just believe.
Starting point is 00:49:50 Believe in something. And that is the correct answer. Jeff is on the board. I knew it. I knew it. Yeah, some of them are easier than others. And tell you what, my points. Doug, how many points do I have over there?
Starting point is 00:50:04 You got two and to just got one All right, so devil. Yeah, so if you if you get this next one, right you you win this game. Oh my god Okay. All right The movie is called Christmas with the cranks, uh-huh. Do you know that movie? Ah Uh-huh. Do you know that movie? Ah, jog my memory. Who are these cranks? I can't say really much about it because that might lead to you figuring out which one is the correct one, but Is it like? It's, you know, it's a family that decides to skip Christmas.
Starting point is 00:50:40 The Tim Allen and Jamie Lee yes, yes, yes, I just give Christmas and then but then for some reason the whole family Decides to show up and force them to have a last-minute Christmas, okay? Okay, so this is the tree. This is the three options this year the cranks are on the naughty list or No, oh oh oh or can the cranks have Christmas with only 12 hours to prepare question mark maybe exclamation point no ho ho and then the first one was what it was this year the cranks are on the naughty list No ho ho or
Starting point is 00:51:30 Can they do it with 12 hours to prepare? It feels like 12 hours to prepare is in keeping with a lot of these ones that we've heard of But for some reason it does not feel right This year the cranks are on the naughty list I say this year the cranks are on the naughty list. I say this year the cranks are on the naughty list. That is not the right one. No! Jeff, you can tie this up. Oh my God Jeff. If you get it right between no ho ho or can the cranks have Christmas with only 12 hours to prepare. Maybe. I'm gonna guess no ho ho. No ho ho is correct.
Starting point is 00:52:12 Oh no, no, no. No, it's no ho ho. No ho ho. No, no, no. No ho ho. No, this is, you know, this is my problem and this is why I never excelled at tennis. Whenever I think that I've got such a lead and I'm going to win and I'm celebrating,
Starting point is 00:52:29 my opponent is just sneaking up and ready to just sneak to the top of the... No. It's okay. You really have a great chance here to win because you're up first on this one. If you get this one right right you're the winner. Okay okay I got it. If you miss and Jeff misses too then you'll get yet another chance. Okay okay. But Jeff has to uh Jeff has to miss it also. So thank you for being so kind. See what happens. Okay so the next one is a motion picture called the holiday
Starting point is 00:53:09 Yeah, you know that one. Yeah, of course, okay Which one of these taglines is? the tagline for the holiday Taking a present swap to the next level Watch it with someone you love or the third choice is from the director of what women want and something's got to give. We haven't had a lot of from the directors coming around. It feels like that one is always when they're just like, we don't know what to fucking say about this movie, you know, so they just give up and think. Yeah, it also feels more modern, right? Like these days, it's like we're not pushing, we're not telling you everything. You're going to see it on TikTok and Instagram.
Starting point is 00:54:01 So we're just going to say this person's directed films and that's why we gave them money again. They even go from the people who brought you like producers are really that influential on creative. Yes. Well from the from the lady who got it wrong last time comes an answer that I hope is right this time. I'm going with from the director That is the correct tagline You came back against all the odds I've had every emotion and you beat Jeff Tate everybody is So mad at you. Oh my god Raged I have so little Oh my god, really? The world is enraged. I have so little.
Starting point is 00:54:47 We dragged you into this cult only to have you hated by everyone. What a movie moment. I got everything I wanted and it feels sad. Yeah, no, you got to be careful what you wish for, especially around the holidays. But not only do you get to come back at your earliest possible convenience, but you get to do your plugs first. What would you like to promote? Oh, my gosh. Well, I've got that show that's probably already sold out
