Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, it's Mark, and welcome to the next edition of the Employee Survival Guide, where we tell you what your employer does not want you to know about and more. Today is a little bit different. I'm going to share with you a personal experience I've been going through for the last year you may not have been aware of, but I've been riding 10,000 miles on my bike to raise money for MS, and MS stands for multiple sclerosis. And here's the real reason why I'm riding 10,000 miles in one year. When I was in my 20s, still finishing up law school, I got a panicked long
Starting point is 00:00:35 distance phone call from my soon-to-be wife. She had just gotten back from the doctor. She had been diagnosed with MS. Heather was in an intense graduate program when she began having vision problems. For months, doctors wrote it off. She was studying too hard. There was no need to worry about it. Finally, after seeing an eye specialist, she was diagnosed with optic neuritis, which eventually led to the MS diagnosis. She was diagnosed with optic neuritis, which eventually led to the MS diagnosis. It was terrifying to say the least. Our future felt uncertain.
Starting point is 00:01:16 This was a long time ago, before the wealth of medications and research that are now within our reach. But even still, there is no cure for multiple sclerosis. And I want a cure. I'm on a mission to help in any way I can, and for me, that is through riding my bike. I came up with the idea this past January to complete a one-year ride of 10,000 miles and raise a minimum of $10,000 for MS research. I'm not a doctor.
Starting point is 00:01:43 I can't do research. I can't do anything any remotely related to curing MS. I can create awareness by doing a fundraiser like this. I can run my bike, which I do obviously quite well and for a long duration. quite well and for a long duration. But I need your help. I'm almost there. Last night, I reached 9,000 miles, and I felt a huge sense of accomplishment. But I still have 1,000 more miles to go, 1,000 more miles in the month of December. That equates to more than 300 miles per week. And sometimes I go away on weekends, so you have to do that in five days. Sometimes I reach 350 miles.
Starting point is 00:02:32 The miles are ticking away. I'm getting close to my goal. Will you help me out? Will you donate to the MS Society today to push me past this finish line? I'm so close to my goal. You can find the donation on the web at hashtag 10,000 miles, the number four, the letters MS. Or you can go to capclaw.com and you can find articles and you can see the donation links. I'll put the donation links in the bottom
Starting point is 00:03:05 in the notes of this podcast. I appreciate everyone who's been cheering me on in the last 12 months and can't wait to get to mile 10,000. I can't wait to cure MS. I can't wait to put a shot or intravenous line to my wife's arm and finally say that this story is over, that MS has been cured. You can help. And a lot of people have already helped by donating. And it really does matter. So please give. And thank you and happy holidays.
