welcome to get sleepy where we listen we relax and we get sleepy
and we get sleepy. My name is Thomas and it's my honor to be your host. Thank you so much for giving us your company. Tonight we come to the sixth star sign
in our series about the characters of the zodiac spending a day in the modern world. As
with every tale from this series, it was written by Frankie and I have the
pleasure of reading it for you. Virgo is the astrological sign represented by the
maiden. The mythology around this maiden is some of the most
interesting and beautiful of all the zodiac signs. As Virgo spends her day in
the modern world, we'll see pieces of her story manifest in the works of art
created around her. Like the conscientious Virgo,
we must make ourselves ready before we jump into the ensuing story.
Be diligent in your preparations.
Make sure you have those things that will aid you in comfort.
Perhaps that is a glass of cool water within reach.
Maybe it's an extra pillow to place between your knees.
It could even be a sleeping mask to help block out any light.
Once your tangible needs are met, turn your attention to your body. Is it in the most comfortable position? Are your joints
supported? Take these moments to enjoy the luxury of creating your own comfort. This is a time to focus entirely on yourself
with the ultimate aim of having a good night's sleep.
Your body is ready, but is your mind prepared for rest? As you try to quiet your thoughts, your mind may land on some last minute problems and needs. Notice these thoughts and then put them gently to the side. They
will be there tomorrow, you don't need to address them now. Find a calm peace within yourself and slowly cultivate it.
Think of it as a seed you have planted in your mind. Allow it to break the surface of the dirt and rise towards the warmth of sunlight.
As the plant grows and blooms into a lovely flower, allow a sense of tranquility to grow inside your mind and
take root.
As that flower opens its colorful petals, expand the image in your mind's eye. We are in a small valley with a clear lake under a new sky.
This is where our story begins. It is just before dawn and a soft breeze travels down the little valley.
It dances here and there in the crisp air of early autumn. A small lake sits at the bottom of the valley, reflecting a
sky that is changing slowly from the indigo of night to the bright blue of day. A few fluffy clouds make their way across the ceiling of the valley.
The undersides are rosy and pink with the light of dawn.
As if spreading from the fresh waters of the lake, dense trees crawl up the walls of the valley.
In a clearing on a small hill sits a large Victorian-style house. It is painted a cheerful lavender color with shades of blue and pink on the trim.
A large wraparound porch hugs the ground floor of the building.
Stretching from its back door is a lovely garden bright with the last blooms of summer.
A stone path leads through the garden and watches the dawn break. Her mother was the goddess of the
dawn and Virgo has always loved this time of day. As the sky transforms, it seems to burst at the edges with the bright fiery light of the
sun.
The sound of the birds in the trees and the frogs in the lake is the orchestra of the
morning. The world is waking up and it is a
beautiful moment between two demanding states of life, the day and the night.
Virgo takes a deep breath in before turning to the house and getting started with her day.
When it came to be Virgo's turn to come back to Earth, she decided immediately to come to a place where she could be useful.
As the last of her siblings to leave the Earth for the heavens all those years ago,
she feels the most connection to the planet and its inhabitants. She deeply loves humans and their inventive
nature. She admires their creativity and desire to make. As a result, she has placed herself in the service of an artist's retreat, where she
will be surrounded by people who make art and music. She can hear the occupants of the house starting to rise with the sun.
Virgo climbs swiftly up the back stairs of the beautiful house and goes into the airy kitchen.
Even with the earliest rays of the sun, the room is bathed in golden light.
Copper pots and pans hang over a wood-topped island.
Every surface is scrubbed and sparkling clean.
The soft curtains at the windows are a vintage pattern of cheerful gazes.
The floor is well-worn wood and reveals the years of dutiful service this house has given for families and artists alike. One of the many painters who have spent restful, creative hours in the house painted the walls in a bright mural of fruit and vegetable bearing plants.
Fergo smiles to herself as she crosses through the room and passes the large dining table.
She walks briskly down a hallway covered in portraits and paintings to the large living
room.
Several vintage sofas in bold patterns and fabrics dominate the space, while floor-to-ceiling
bookshelves cover the walls.
Wooden end tables hold dim Tiffany lamps and coasters for the innumerable cups of tea
enjoyed by occupants of the retreat.
of the retreat. In a small basket in the corner sits a heap of fabric and some sewing supplies. Virgo walks over to the basket, picks it up and thinks for a moment. She hears someone come down the stairs and make their way out
the back door and decidesgo, grabbing a ripe nectarine from the
bowl on the counter of the kitchen as she passes.
She sets herself up in a rocking chair and lays out her task on her lap.
One of the tablecloths has been ripped in the wash and she is going to fix it before
dinner that evening. She glances at the rip, brainstorming ways to fix it, while enjoying the perfect sweetness
of her nectarine.
Suddenly, as lovely and unexpected as a swan song, music floats to her from the direction of the lake.
It's not so quiet that she cannot hear it, but not so loud as to disturb anyone
still sleeping inside the house. It must have been one of the musicians she heard
coming down the stairs earlier. She listens to him tuning and warming up his violin as as she finishes her snack. The violinist is here looking for inspiration to
finish a piece he is writing. At the moment however, he is simply practicing practicing some scales in order to warm up his instrument and his fingers.
Virgo turns her attention back to her tablecloth.
The rip is easily fixed but there will be a large and obvious line where she mends it. Virgo decides to hide the mend with
some embroidery. As Virgo picks out her colors and studies a nearby bunch of late blooming wisteria flowers. The sound from the violin changes
to something closer to a song. The violin player allows himself some freedom, Rippling from one small tune to another, trying to find a way in which the notes fit together.
Virgo sews up the rip in the tablecloth quickly, using a simple stitch to bring the fabric
back together. Her needle moves deftly between the layers of cotton,
drawing them close with ease.
The violinist continues to make the notes dip and dive through the air,
make the notes dip and dive through the air, but with no clear direction or unifying aim. Only once Virgo ties off her mend and starts embroidering with a soft shade of blue, does
the violin pause. The violinist seems to be struck for a moment by a thought. When the
violin starts again the music is soft and almost tentative. The image that comes to Virgo's mind is of the first light of dawn.
As the music grows in passion, so does the image of Virgo's mother in her mind. The goddess of the dawn has fingers the same rosy color of first light,
and her face is as radiant as the sunrise. The sound of the violin bursts into a full-bodied melody,
and the goddess of the dawn seems to dance before Virgo.
Just as Virgo herself changes colors, the music changes tack.
The tone is deeper, but no less beautiful.
Virgo nearly gasps as the image of her fatherist plays it, knowing that he is composing
the love between the goddess of the dawn and the god of dusk. Virgo calmly embroidered us with one ear cocked to the music.
She lets the beautiful story wash over her, not needing any words to know what is being
said. The morning passes in a dream for both Virgo and the violinist. As he finishes his masterpiece,
Virgo finishes her chore. She smiles at the musician as he quickly walks back inside, desperate to write down the beautiful
music he has just created, still shaking his head as if wondering where the beauty came
from. Virgo deposits her sewing supplies back in the
living room and places her newly finished tablecloth on the dining table
in the kitchen. She takes a moment to admire the way the wisteria seems to drape over the corner of the table
before she heads back outside.
It is early autumn and she has a few chores in the garden to prepare it for the coming winter.
As she wanders through the garden, making a mental list of her tasks, a painter sets
up her easel in her garden view bedroom.
The painter looks down on the garden and the lake glittering in the midday sun.
She hopes that today she'll find the inspiration she's been looking for
to create the centerpiece of her upcoming art show. Down below, Virgo decides to start by mulching the flower beds, creating a nutritious foundation
for the upcoming dormant months. The painter starts with the background inspired by the view out of her window.
She creates a horizon that peaks between the two green sides of the valley.
sides of the valley. Like the mulching of the garden, this part of the painting may not be the most glamorous step of the process, but it's completely necessary.
The painter takes great joy in making the definition in her painting using the light
and shadow created by an unseen sun.
Virgo thinks of her work as tucking in the plants and getting them ready for a long night of sleep as the weather gets colder.
Most of the summer fruit plants are already heading towards their long nap.
She prunes them and cleans them up.
them and cleans them up. The painter pauses in her work, turning her attention back to the question of the subject of her painting. A face appears in her imagination as bright as the dawn and as mysterious as the dusk.
The painter works quickly to sketch out the portrait before it disappears like sand through her fingers. Almost in a fever, the artist starts painting the
eyes. They seem to peer out at her with an intensity that she has not seen before. Virgo, unaware that her own likeness is being painted upstairs, turns
her attention to the last autumn flowers. First, she cuts a few for the bouquet on the dinner table. She gravitates immediately
to the huge orange and yellow dahlias and the puffs of light blue hydrangeas.
She balances these large round blooms with the tall pink belladonna flowers.
She rounds the bouquet out with pe back into the kitchen to put it in a vase.
The painter has perfected the eyes of her face. She feels almost as if she knows this face,
but can't place it even as she paints.
Virgo goes back to the garden to continue her pruning.
back to the garden to continue her pruning. She also wants to plant a few seeds and new bulbs that will come up in the spring like a glorious surprise. She
puts down a seed mix of snapdragons and cornflowers between the larger bushes
and at the feet of the fruit trees.
Virgo smiles to herself at the thought of the bright bursts of color coming up next year.
coming up next year.
The painter, still in the clutches of inspiration,
finishes the face she has been painting
and moves to tie the portrait in with the landscape behind it.
She decides to wind a little river through the painting, leading the eye from the
foreground to the background. She adds a border of irises and other flowers that grow near river beds.
flowers that grow near riverbeds. The painter steps back from her work to examine it,
just as Virgo steps away from the garden below to admire her own handiwork. Both women sigh in relief at a job well done, and move to start cleaning themselves up.
Virgo washes her hands in the huge farmhouse sink in the kitchen,
taking special care to work the dirt out from under her fingernails.
She's about to begin making dinner for the residents of the retreat.
A young poet gives Virgo a polite nod as she heads out to the back porch
to work on her latest poetry collection in the early evening.
Having finished washing her hands, Virgo turns her attention to the food assembled on the kitchen island in front of her.
She has harvested a wide array of vegetables for the salad and decides to start with that.
She washes all the veggies thoroughly, admiring how the clear water seems to make the greens and reds of the food even brighter and more appealing. The young poet outside taps her pen against her notebook and tries to open her mind to
inspiration.
She has been writing a collection inspired by myths and legends about art and artists.
Tonight, she can practically feel something incredible brewing just below the surface
of her consciousness. An obscure myth seems to be jumping up and down in her memory, desperate to catch her attention. Something about the dawning of a new golden age of mankind. The poet puts her pen to paper and allows the words to flow out of her.
Virgo cuts lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, carrots, cucumbers, and avocado before throwing
them into a large bowl for the salad. She tops it
with roasted seeds, a handful of nuts, and some dried fruit. She looks into the
bowl to see a rainbow of colors beaming back at her. With the salad done, she turns her attention
to the main dish, a tart. From the fridge, she grabs a bowl of dough that has been cooling there. She lightly flours the
worktop and her rolling pin before setting to work.
As the dough stretches and spreads into a large circle, Virgo is careful not to be too rough and crack
it. She loves the feeling of a wave-like shape with her
practiced fingers. The poet calls down words onto her paper that that describe the heavens opening up to reveal a glorious goddess.
As soon as the goddess sets foot on the earth, artists of all kinds
feel the powerful river of inspiration surge through them.
surge through them. The poet herself seems to feel this creative stream flowing through her right now.
Her poetic interpretation of the outpouring of art into the world is so real that she can see the scene in her mind perfectly.
She can't seem to write fast enough, though bed of creamy mild cheese at the bottom of her tart
and tops it with spears of asparagus. She drizzles a raspberry balsamic glaze over the top and sprinkles over a few seasonings.
Virgo opens the preheated oven and enjoys the brief wave of heat that blows across her face.
across her face. She places the tart on the center rack and closes the door,
licking a little bit of glaze from her finger as she does so.
She turns her attention to making a lovely summery drink to go with dinner.
She cuts up dark red blood oranges and fresh lemons, placing them in the pitcher
with some fresh juice and a dollop of honey. She mixes the concoction, adds ice, and then places it on the table
before gathering dishes and setting the places.
The poet crosses her last tea and stands to read her work back to herself. Just inside the house, Virgo finishes setting the table as the tart finishes baking. She sticks her head out of the back door and gently tells the poet that
dinner is ready just as the poet reaches the last line of her work. She turns and beams at Virgo, who smiles back.
Virgo rings a small bell in the kitchen to alert the rest of the house.
The handful of artists, musicians, and writers come down eagerly. The entire group sits down to a lovely meal together.
The collection of artists trade tales of the incredible day of work they all experienced. Each one is certain that they
created something wonderful, all congratulating one another on their achievements. When the food is finished, the company take their glasses of lemon and orangeade out to
the porch to watch the dusky sky turn to night. Each one is quiet, wrapped in private joy at their work for the day, and wondering at the nature of inspiration.
Virgo looks around at the collection of creators and smiles to herself. She may not be back on earth for good, but she feels satisfied
that she has inspired a little golden age in this house today. She slips away before anyone can notice and walks down to the lake.
She glances up at the stars and returns through the dusk to her siblings waiting in the night sky. You I'm going to go ahead and start the video. You You The You I'm going to go ahead and start the video. You You You The You You You You I'm going to go ahead and start the video. The You You you you
