All right, we do this so that they know how to sync up everything.
No, you don't.
Yes, you do.
What?
Yes, you do.
You do?
Yes.
That sounds like, hey, settlers.
That's so dumb.
You could have totally got me with that.
No, we do.
I'm serious.
No, no, I know, but I'm just saying, like, you'd be like, all right, so before we start,
we always pray.
Well, no, we do the affirming questions.
See?
Yeah.
No, I'm serious.
You don't know about these?
No, you don't. Yes, we do. You're still a liar. Okay. I believe you. No, no, we do the affirming questions. See? Yeah. No, I'm serious. You don't know about these? No, you don't.
Yes, we do.
You're still a liar.
Okay.
I believe in you.
No, no, no.
Listen, we do these things called affirming questions.
No, you don't.
Yes, we do.
We call them AQs.
So, okay.
It's three questions and you do it.
I'll do it to you.
You do it to me.
Okay.
Ready?
I believe in you.
Do you believe in me?
And you answer, yes, I believe in you.
Yes, I believe in you.
If the podcast ended today today would you be happy or
sad you say i'd be sad i'd be sad in the wilderness um my spirit animal is a lone wolf but i've
changed into a salamander which means that you are what kind of animal you say love you say
blue heron blue okay uh oh oh i think this tight beat means that it's going down with some random thoughts in white.
Me too.
Midwest best friends eating fast food on repeat.
So come along, let's have some fun and go ahead, get on your feet, because it's the Ghost
Brothers Podcast.
Ghost Brothers Podcast.
Everybody morning, we're taking ground.
Ghost Brothers Podcast.
Ghost Brothers Podcast. Good morning, we're taking round Ghostbusters podcast. Ghostbusters podcast.
Okay, so welcome to the Ghostbusters podcast.
Catherine and Brad are here.
Yeah, we don't usually record the affirming questions, but I figured we could do it this time for a little COP, a little change of pace yeah a little cop action so um yeah jake
is on his honeymoon right now rachel's also on her honeymoon right now um having lots of fun no
doubt oh my gosh that's on the office having lots of fun i presume and he has been on a little bit
of a sabbatical recently seeing the world finding, having lots of fun, no doubt. And so we're here.
Catherine is leaving tomorrow for Texas.
So we kind of spontaneously decided we were going to record this.
You're going to Texas tomorrow for a while with the kids.
And so, yeah, thanks for being here, being willing to record with us, being here.
What do you, yeah, first of all, I guess to start right before we started
recording, Catherine was scratching her head and she said, Oh man, what'd you say?
I said, I would pay, I would pay money to someone to scratch my head every night.
There is just, it's so relaxing. Yeah. I think we talked on the podcast one time about like
one minute butlers or something like that. Like, like just little chores that somebody could do that would just change your life.
Like I said, like if somebody would go and just turn on my car in the winter, you know, outside.
It would change my life.
I would be such a less stressed person.
I would be such a happier mom.
Yeah.
I would sleep better.
You think so?
So are you kind of just saying that I need to do this for you basically?
Like, no,
cause I, I've tried. You've been like, you've been like, uh, you just don't like, what is it?
It wasn't scratching your head, but it was like maybe combing your, not combing your hair, but like playing with your hair. You're like, Hey, can you just run your hands through my hair? And I was
like, I tried really hard to be good at it. But you're like, you're not as good
as the girls. You need a little bit. You need some nails. Okay. Like I bite my nails chronic.
Yeah. So you would not be good. My mom always had, I think she still does long nails and so it was
nice. She would scratch your head. Okay. Yeah. It's wonderful. Very relaxing. Yeah. So we just
need to teach Hattie how to do it. Yes. We've been like, you know, there's certain roles within our house that we kind of say
like, hey, we have expectations.
Like this is part of who, like as a member of the Ellis family, you have to do these
things.
Like we have daily chores for her to do, but then we also pay her every once in a while
to do extra things.
So yeah, just the other day.
I'm okay paying her.
Yeah.
For scratching your head?
Sure.
She does it well.
Okay.
Yeah.
How much?
Because she's going to catch on and she's going to do it a lot.
Sure.
I don't care.
Which I honestly get really excited when she's like, hey, dad, can I make some money today
by working with you in the shop?
I'm like, yes.
But I make sure she works for it.
I would make sure if she's scratching that head, it better be good.
Minimum 10 minutes.
Is that too much?
Wow.
Minimum,
minimum.
Sure.
10 minutes for a dollar,
50 cents.
Yeah.
A dollar.
I would do a dollar for 10 minutes.
A sweet story.
The other day is we were outside,
Bo was kind of having a hard night and we look over and Hattie's,
uh,
we were outside in the front yard.
Hattie's outside in the backyard cleaning up the deck and like just like, I think just kind of sensing like,
hey, mom and dad are having a little bit
of a tough time right now.
And it was just so sweet.
Like, you remember that night?
Like we tried to go on a family walk
and it was like after dinner.
And, you know, so the kids are near bedtime
or like we're trying to get our walks in
and summer nights are wonderful.
Bowman at 87 steps.
And Bow was just so bad.
Yeah, yeah, literally it was right in front of Jake and Rachel's house. Bowman at 87 steps. And Bow was just so bad. Yeah. Yeah.
Literally, it was right in front of Jake and Rachel's house.
Yeah.
Which is awesome.
I picked him up out of his stroller and just walked home with him screaming.
But Hattie kind of recognized that and was really sweet.
Yeah.
I forgot about that.
Yeah.
So I was like, hey, I'm going to give her 50 cents for this.
Yeah.
And she wasn't expecting it, but it was really sweet.
So anyway, Catherine's paying our daughter to do massage labor. Yeah. Is she, she wasn't expecting it, but it was really sweet. So anyway, Catherine's paying our daughter to do,
you know,
massage labor.
Yeah.
Is the,
is the future here,
but you have this new drink that you said is,
we got it.
We got some,
you know,
we've talked before about Catherine's kicks that she goes on.
She brings over this drink that looks delicious.
Doesn't it?
It looks nice.
I know.
Here it is.
Everyone.
Hopefully we're recording all of this.
I don't, I, I, I, Jake's my security blanket with technology.
So I think people can see the video and the audio.
Well, if they do now, get some quality time.
Um, I don't always, they're, they're not a sponsor.
I should put them up there.
They're not, they're not like a competitor of Main Street Roasters or Beam.
Okay, good, good, good.
You know.
Um, tart cherry juice. Yeah, good, good, good. You know, try it. Tart cherry juice is really good for sleep.
Helps you.
I'm glad that you took it right before you're recording the podcast.
Well, yeah.
I'm just kidding.
Yeah, I know.
Sorry.
There was one time I had like a calming drink as well.
Recess, I think is what it's called, or something.
Rachel had them in her refrigerator. Sounds nice. Yeah. Yeah, I think is what it's called or read something. Rachel had them in her.
Yeah.
Yeah. I think it like helps you produce melatonin or something.
I don't,
I don't really know what it does.
I don't remember the science behind it,
but,
um,
my chiropractor posted about it.
Oh,
is that the thing?
I've seen like Alison posts like Dr.
Jess's mocktail or something like that.
Yeah.
I don't know.
She has a few drinks.
I don't know if this is the one,
but I actually forgot to add, she adds drops of zinc to it, but I did something like that. Yeah. I don't know. She has a few drinks. I don't know if this is the one. But I actually forgot to add.
She adds drops of zinc to it, but I did not do that.
But that doesn't change the flavor probably.
No.
It just would be a good thing for me to have.
Yeah.
Yes.
But she calls it her wind down.
Oh, okay.
Instead of a glass of wine.
And so she does it in, like she pours hers into actual wine glasses.
Yeah.
Like does ice and then sometimes
she'll do a, she doesn't do a LaCroix,
she does a, I don't know, some other carbonated
beverage into it. But
it is really nice. I don't own
wine glasses.
Dinner cup.
But I do choose the glass fancy
one when I make this drink. There you go. Yeah, we don't have
any kind of alcoholic, we don't have
whiskey glasses, we don't have frosted of alcoholic. We don't have whiskey glasses.
We don't have frosted beer mugs.
Okay, but I will say if this kick catches on,
I would like to buy one for this.
Seriously?
Because it just elevates it.
It's so fancy.
And it's like, hmm, that looks nice.
Fair enough.
Anyway, so instead of my whining down every night,
I am winding down with my tart cherry.
Perfect. You know, last week, uh, whatever, I think it was Wednesday. We did
schmores of drinks with Tymon and Jake that night. Uh, the three, four of us, sorry. Uh,
Rachel, Jake and Catherine and I had a wonderful night of chocolate fondue out on the deck with
Brio, uh, fire pit, uh, you know, going and, uh, yeah, we, we did
our own, like, we're like, Hey, let's do the s'mores ourselves and do the drinks ourselves.
And Catherine, I would say drinks 0.6 alcoholic drinks per year, like not even one per year.
And on her Mount Rushmore of drinks was, first of all, Rachel said margaritas, which I've
never seen Rachel drink an alcoholic drink either.
And Catherine's like, you know, it's crazy you say an alcoholic drink because I'm going
to say sangria in Rome.
Which is funny because I had the city wrong, the country wrong.
Yeah.
You realize later you're like, you know what?
Now that I'm thinking about it, it was Spain.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Neapolitan pizza in Germany. It was the best sangria of my
life. I loved it. And you know what? I've gotten sangria a handful of times since then. That was
in college. Like an olive garden or something? Probably. And I don't remember a few other
places and it's, I always get it and I think, I don't like that. You're just tasting that high.
Yes. It was so good. So if you can't have that sangria, you get, so maybe I'll start adding
sliced fruit. There you go. To my tart cherry. That would be like, I'm in Spain. That would be
fun. I'd be, I'd be down for that. Um, I'm going to try this for a minute. Yeah. Catherine was
like, I don't think I can handle, you guys put those headphones on and have them on the entire
time. And I was like, yeah, I guess we just get used to them, but it does make a difference. I
know for good and bad world. I think the nice thing about them is that you
can hear the other person
so it's harder to talk over.
You still do it a lot. I interrupt
Jake all the time.
It prevents talking over
people? I think it's easier to hear the other person, obviously.
How? Because we're
super far away. We're probably two and a half
feet away from each other right now, so it's hard to hear.
Oh, okay.
Anyway, yeah. Jake and Rachel on the honeymoon, we had one really fun night of being neighbors with them and it was, it was genuinely like a great time. It was really
fun. Um, yeah. Really exciting. Cause it was like, ah, yes, this is the beginning. This is the tip
of the iceberg. Yeah. So it is my favorite time of year. My favorite time of year.
We have come to the point where six out of seven
nights of the week, we will be outside
and Catherine will say,
I love Kansas City summer
nights. I love them.
I love them. I don't know if it's because I
have just hated the weather
so
much for the past six months that by the time summer evenings come, I'm like, hallelujah, praise the Lord.
Or it's, I think we were talking about the other night, that I think in Texas growing up, it was so hot, obviously.
It's so hot longer in the day.
Whereas here, it's like five o'clock maybe.
It's enjoyable.
It's enjoyable.
It's very enjoyable right outside
um so we're out there so we're out there the bugs are well the bugs for you yeah i don't know there
was one night bugs aren't that bad except we did have a night yeah that was odd we recently got a
patio uh like dining table yeah uh should have made it myself just bought it though i mean you
know outdoors yeah whatever um
really nice and um anyway but so we've been eating a lot of dinners outside and there was one night
where katherine and hattie on one side were just like you were you complained about the bugs every
five seconds i know and i know you were getting annoyed but i was having a boat with we're killing
them and it was gnats so they were easy to kill kill, which was nice. But I mean, I don't know.
We should have counted.
Hundreds. I mean, I don't think I killed hundreds.
No, thousands.
I probably realistically killed
50 of them. It was nuts.
It was just constantly hitting myself.
Yeah.
And then I'm on the other side. I think I saw one.
It was weird. I'm 42 inches away from you.
I mean, it's just wild.
Yeah.
So besides that, though, summer nights, nice in Kansas.
Besides that, yeah.
I'll get those mosquito things.
What are those things called?
Skeeter.
Oh, what are they?
The mosquito.
Yeah, what are they called?
Yeah.
My mom loves them.
Catherine's a love.
Yeah, she's a big kit girl.
She's also like, she comes from a family.
Like, her mom is the biggest, like, mom is the biggest like sucker for the fair.
Not sucker.
Okay, you're right.
Wrong word, wrong word, wrong word.
She buys into a lot of things.
Like imagine like little things at the fair
that you're like, who buys those things?
No.
Catherine's mom.
No.
Susan Hanson's always buying them.
We do have a wonderful tortilla warmer.
Works great.
We got it at the fair.
What else do we have from the fair?
Lots of great things.
We had a potato gun.
What is that?
Shoots potatoes?
No.
Gosh, that would kill someone.
No, it's like a little gun.
Here, woodworker, how many inches is that?
That is seven and seven-eighths.
That is beardy.
It had this little bitty hole on one end. How many inches is that? That is seven and seven eighths. Yeah. That is beardy.
And it had this little bitty hole on one end and you would like push the hole into a potato.
Like you would hold a potato and push it.
And so like a tiny little pellet, potato pellet.
So you're shooting potatoes, but just like little tiny bits of it.
They were so fun.
So did you have to like take it out and like reload it every time? Like stick it into a different part of the potato?
Yeah.
Yeah.
You would stick it. Okay. Did it hurt okay my grandma got one for all of us it's great did it hurt when you
got hit with them no okay no it was fun it was so fun yeah i've never seen it before never seen
since i can't remember what the thing is yeah the mosquito eradicator but it's not that's what it
was i mean like and so like my mom just calls it the eradicator you just hang them up in like yeah you're like the far side of your like yard or
something yeah it has to be far away because i think it does attract them so they're like don't
put it i don't know on your dining table yeah we are not endorsing the mosquito eradicator are you
i am are you sure yes okay my mom swears by it We just didn't do it this year yet, but I need to get them.
She loves them.
Yeah.
You guys have all like, you guys have the, uh, the gun that shoots out little salt that
kills the flies.
I don't think.
Yes.
Maybe.
That was a gimmicky thing.
Exactly.
That was something like my uncle had like, and like swore by.
I don't want to get three of them.
I kid about your family, but I also love like the things that your family, like, and like swore by. I don't know. I want to get three of them. I kid about your family,
but I also love like the things
of your family.
Thank you.
Like your family just takes joy
in things that I think my family
would be like,
that was funny,
but we threw it away.
Here's the thing.
We love.
Like the,
sorry,
the lion cookie jar.
Like they have this like,
like plastic cookie jar
and you open it up.
Isn't it the lion?
Yes.
And it just like growls and he goes, get your hand out of my cookie jar.
Rawr, rawr.
And of course, like it's kind of funny when you're an adult, but then you have kids and
it's like really fun for the kids.
And we love it.
And we have loved it for decades.
But you have 85 things like that at your house.
Like the piggy bank?
Yes.
There's like this piggy bank that has this little hand that pops up.
It's like this mechanical hand and snatches the coin and brings it back down.
And every time we do it in front of Beau, he goes, oh, that scared me.
Yeah, that scared me.
That scared me.
Oh, my gosh.
He's like, I'm going to do it again.
That scared me.
Anyway, all that to say, had a great time with Jake and Rachel fonduing.
Oh, wow.
My parents got them a fondue pot.
Fondue was like a really big thing in my family
growing up. One of my sisters specifically always wanted fondue for her birthday. And so we always
like, you know, did the oil with meat and everything. But they brought, yeah. So they
brought over this fondue pot almost, yeah, the next day, you know, and yeah, it was awesome.
We had all sorts of different things in there. Laughed, cried.
Jake wore Rachel's sweatshirt.
That's true.
Yeah.
Talk about Kansas City nights.
We had a bonfire going and Jake and Rachel both had crew neck sweatshirts on.
I think I did too.
I did too, 100%. Okay.
So maybe it was just me.
It was just you.
Just a freak.
Anyway, all I have to say, we are not sponsored by Brio this week, but if we were. But they are great. My gosh, do we love them. Yeah. Anyway, all I'll say, we are not sponsored by Brio this week, but if we were, my gosh,
do we love them. Okay. I do have, I have just a few things written down before we, and we have
a bunch of questions from ghosties. So I have, I have a quick beef to settle with you. Yeah. I
mean, just a small one, just, just like, yeah. But, but before we talk about the beef, I want to
talk about our sponsor from that sponsor that sells the beef.
So do you want to do the yeehaw thing?
No.
Are you sure?
Very.
You're from Texas.
I am.
I'm not going to do it.
It's not the same without Jake.
Jake, just know, man.
Hey, hey, Tymon, if you're listening to this,
throw in a Jake yeehaw right here so Jake's here.
Yeehaw!
There it is. Turn it down for all your headphones in there. But, um, Hey, we are sponsored by good ranchers and yeah, we're very proud of that. Uh, Catherine,
do you like love or dislike good ranchers? Well, Brad, I'll tell you, I love good ranchers.
Yes, it is the best. If you guys don't know, it is American meat delivered.
Their whole thing is that they send out chicken, steak, fish straight to your door,
and it is the highest quality of each of those different things.
Recently, we got a new shipment of chicken as well as a new shipment of burgers.
Really excited to have people over to host people for some burgers.
But the steak is also nice.
We have some-
The steak is great.
And I will say,
we didn't really eat steak a ton before Good Ranchers
because I never really knew how to buy it.
Slash, you didn't-
I don't really know what the good quality is.
I don't really want to get this crummy kind
that's loaded with crap that I don't want to eat.
Crud, please, crud.
Sorry.
And I was like, I don't really know how to cook them super well,
and I don't think Brad does either.
And we're learning.
Yeah.
And my gosh, it's great.
So good.
And the great thing about the steak box is that they come with a variety of steaks,
which I really love because it has tiny little steaks that you can throw in recipes
or do fajita steaks and stuff like that. But then we have a few ribeyes in there
that are like two and a half inches thick, baby. I mean, just so thick, big old juicy boys. Yeah.
So saving those for a special occasion. Yeah. But good ranchers. Yeah. It's American meat delivered.
It is truly wonderful. You can get $30 off with our code GRKC at good ranchers.com. Uh, we're just really thankful to be sponsored by them. And we truly
believe we truly believe in all our products, but we're so excited to be sponsored by good ranchers.
So please go out and buy them. Uh, I was just looking at our Florida group chat and somebody
recently again was like, Hey, can somebody send that a chicken nuggets recipe from Brooks? Uh,
and they sent out this like pretty simple recipe, but then somebody after they said that said,
but you got to always remember you have to get Good Ranchers chicken because that's half the
battle. They really are amazing. Yeah. Shout out to Lisa Gluck who just recently bought some Good
Ranchers. And I think it's, she said, she's like, I didn't know if I was going to be able to finish
all the chicken before getting a new shipment because I have the subscription. And she's like, I didn't know if I was going to be able to finish all the chicken before getting a new shipment because I have the subscription.
And she's like, it's very easy because the chicken's that good.
It's so good.
It's so, so good.
We had the shrimp the other night, which was awesome.
We had the salmon.
Catherine, you never give me this much hype for a meal ever.
I forgot.
I grilled salmon the other night.
And Catherine, three times in the meal, just was so excited.
I was like, this is the greatest meal I've ever had.
This tastes so good.
Yes.
And my kids, of course, were kind of like, eh, you know, because they're kids.
And they still did a good job, actually, of eating their salmon.
But the whole time, I was like, I don't care if I'm the only person that loves this meal.
We're going to have this meal once a week.
Yes, you did.
I love it.
Yeah.
It's just different.
There's something about Good Ranchers that's different.
So goodranchers.com, promo code code GRKC $30 off your subscription and yeah, get some meat. Uh, okay.
So I have some beef with you, Kath. Uh, it's a small beef, but it's, it's enough to really
just, I need, I need you to defend yourself a little bit on this. The other day, Jake and
Rachel were talking about taking stuff back from their wedding registry. And I think they took it back to target and, uh, they have, you know, some, some whatever merchandise credit, like they have
some gift cards and stuff, store credit, store credit. Thank you. And, uh, yeah, they said
something like, uh, we can get 15% off. Was it two purchases, two or three purchases? Like,
I don't know. I missed the numbers. Whatever it was, it was 15%
off some purchases. And I was like, oh man, you got to be really strategic about 15% off. It's a
lot if you buy the right thing. And so I said, in my opinion, clearly jokingly, I said, oh man,
if I were doing that, I probably like, I don't know. I get like a bottle, bottled water probably.
I mean, think about 15% off a bottle of water.
Smart water would be way cheaper if it's 15%
off. And Catherine, after being
married to me for almost 10 years
was like, you would spend
it on water? That is
not how you said it. You believed me.
Because you just said it. You just go, oh, 15%
off. I mean, I'd probably get some bottled water.
And then you moved right along.
Like, you did not be like, oh, yeah, it's my water.
I said that.
I did.
You did not.
I did.
You did not.
You did not.
It's just amazing that like you can't pick up on that after.
Rachel didn't either.
I don't know.
What was it the other?
Oh, the other night Rachel asked what iPod stood for or why it was called the iPod.
And I think we said intellectual property on demand.
She didn't believe it.
She didn't believe it for a second,
but we were so proud of ourselves.
Like Jake and I were like riffing off.
It was like,
no,
it's an acronym.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Uh,
international or intellectual property on demand.
And Rachel's like,
no,
it's not.
But we thought it was the funniest thing ever.
Y'all did.
So,
um,
anyway,
do you have,
I mean,
you just think,
give me,
give me some thoughts on why in the world
you believed my 15% off water is what I would do. Because you just said it very confidently,
also very nonchalantly and very in passing. Just like very dry. Yeah. Yeah. It's like,
I was probably spending on some bottled water. What are you talking about? I remember, I mean,
like this is like the infamous joke from probably like two years into marriage.
But I was like, you said something like, whoa, that's really dangerous.
And I was like, yeah, my middle name's Danger.
And you just look at me like you were so proud of yourself.
You go, no, it's not.
I'm like, obviously, I know it's not middle.
Yeah, whatever.
So anyway, just had some beef there with you,
Catherine. Uh, if you, if you want some beef, go to good range.com. Um, let's, uh, let's talk
about, I know like last week we talked about Jake and Rachel's wedding. Um, from my perspective,
from Jake's perspective, give us some highlights from your perspective. Um, I know I did. I'm putting her on the spot right now. Yeah.
I really liked a lot of it.
Similar.
Well, okay.
Sorry.
Here we go.
Yeah.
At your own wedding.
Yes. Is the one time in your life besides your funeral that everybody you know and love and that you want to be in the same room is there.
It is so fun.
So special.
So special at your own wedding.
It's so great.
So fun.
It's wonderful.
I will say this was very close to that because so many of our friends were there.
And like so many of our Kansas City friends were there,
but then our non-Kansas City friends were there.
I mean.
Right, Canna Cut Connections were there.
Yeah, Canna Cut Connections, Zach Warehan.
You know, people that we don't get to see all the time were there.
And it was so fun.
It was just really fun to see.
Yeah.
Because our circles cross over a lot.
Right.
Which I think probably is just Canna Cut Circles cross over a lot.
Yeah.
So that was really fun. Grant Hudeberg. Yes. crossover a lot. So that was really fun.
Grant Hudeberg in his own porn.
That was so fun.
Yeah, afterwards,
we got coffee with them the next day
and you're like,
I would like to hang out with them a lot more.
Yes.
And especially in this age and stage of life,
we're not in college,
we don't work at camp,
and so it's precious time
that you get to see people
that you don't live in the same town with.
Right.
And so,
yeah,
it was really fun.
Yeah.
I was really sad about it.
I think they were trying to figure out,
uh,
Iowa or Kansas city or maybe Stratford.
I don't know if they considered Stratford or not,
but like they're trying to figure out location,
Iowa or Kansas city.
And they obviously eventually chose Iowa.
And I'm really glad that they did because that I think made it even more like special.
Cause like, yeah, we weren't like preoccupied with anything else outside of just being there
for the wedding, enjoying it. You know, afterwards we all hung out, you know, beforehand we all hung
out. It was just awesome. We stayed in Airbnb with three other couples that we love and that
was so fun. And yeah, I mean, when do you get to do that really as an adult? That was really special. I
enjoyed it. Like, uh, Peter and Sophie were supposed to come with their little girl, but they,
Sophie and Annie Tate ended up staying back cause Annie was sick. Um, and so Hattie was the only
kid in our Airbnb and that was really fun. I got there one day after we were golfing and you guys
were there with Hattie and Hattie comes and says hi to me and talks to me and she says, okay, I'm going to go back up there and be with the girls
now. And it was like, you can tell it's just like this really sweet time that she got to have, like
just watching you guys and like, yeah, admiring these, these girls in her life that I'm sure
someday she's going to look back on and really look up to. Yeah. It was really fun having her
there too, because yeah, you were in the wedding and so you had stuff, you know, the guys were busy all that day. And so it was Emily Duckworth
and Abby Pollard and me and Hattie and that hung out all morning and it was really fun. And she's
at that fun age where, you know, she's not in diapers, she's not napping. She doesn't, she'll eat regular food. You know, it's not hard
to feed her. And so it was really nice. Like she was just kind of one of the girls. Yeah. It was
fun. She walked to, uh, walked to breakfast with you guys and didn't the next day. She's like,
do we have to walk again or something like that? I'm like, she's such a diva. Yeah. It was like,
Oh my gosh. Five minute walk. Yeah. It was not far at all. Yeah.
Anyway, but it was a fun time.
I liked that.
Did she say something?
I tried to remember and say on the podcast last week about all the funny things she said
at the wake.
Did she say something about Jake crying?
Did I make that up?
Did she say something about him?
Well, when Jake was talking in the ceremony and at the end he was like he said okay
i'm i'm gonna stop because my voice is getting kind of shaky yeah she said i don't think his
voice sounds kind of shaky and here's the thing hattie and i were sitting on the second row
yeah and so kind of yeah kind of on the end you guys have prime spots yeah and she does not know
how to whisper and so every time she talked which was a lot in this ceremony, it was,
you know,
normal volume.
Right.
Everyone could hear you.
But yeah,
she was good.
Yeah.
Fun.
It was fun.
It was a fun time.
I liked Iowa a lot.
Me too.
Yeah.
I was really impressed by the beauty of Iowa.
Yeah.
Um,
yeah,
I enjoyed it a lot.
Um,
I go back there.
I'm ready to go.
Cedar falls.
Yeah.
I loved it. Don't sleep on Cedar falls guys I'm ready to go back. Cedar Falls? Yeah. I loved it.
Don't sleep on Cedar Falls, guys.
Yeah, that's what we always say.
Check it out.
Beautiful downtown.
Yeah.
Yeah, anyway.
Okay.
It was good.
Let's go.
Yeah.
Let's do some questions.
Okay.
Before we do some questions, let's talk about CJLA.
And let's check the monitor.
Let's check the monitor.
Check on the kids. Check on the kids. Catherine, while I'm doing that, tell us your favorite
things about, or what, what is CJLA? CJLA stands for Carly Jean Los Angeles, and it is a capsule
clothing company that makes women's clothes. Is that right?
It's in Los Angeles, yes.
Based in Los Angeles.
Called Carly Jean Los Angeles.
Majority of their stuff is made in the US.
Yes.
They are very passionate about stylish but classic women's wear.
So their whole thing is buy this piece that you will own the rest of your
life.
Right.
So,
which I really love.
I feel like in this age and stage of life,
I said to you,
I think a couple of years ago,
I was like,
I,
not that I don't want to be trendy and stylish,
but I'm like,
I think I'm ready to invest in more classic pieces that I'm not going to get
tired of in a year.
I would like to be able to look in my closet and be like,
Oh yeah,
I like everything that's in here. Right. Um, this're like, this is my favorite shirt. Yeah. Yeah.
It's going to be my favorite shirt for a long time. Yeah. Yes. Uh, the infamous, uh, Kate
McAllister home alone, uh, coat. It's not called Carly G and I don't believe, but like, that's
your example of like, Oh, right. You value timeless classic stuff. Yeah. Yes. Kate McAllister coat. Yeah, I forgot about that.
Yes.
And yeah, CJLA is awesome.
I do have several of their, I shouldn't say several, I think I have two, but of their long like sweater kind of coats.
Okay.
And they're wonderful and they're really warm.
One of them I have because my sister bought it and I have a few Carly Jean Los Angeles items that my
sister has bought and then given to me because she's like, I don't know why I bought this. I
live in Dallas, Texas. The coldest it gets here is like 60 degrees. And so she'll be like here,
I know it's cold up there. So, but, and she does that because they are very warm. Like they're
very, they're, they're not like, they're not cheap articles of clothing. They are very substantial in quality. And yeah, they're great.
And she's a Christian, which I love supporting other Christian businesses.
Yeah. I think that's great. I don't know what else to say about her.
I just know that it's fun to hear you talk about it because you were definitely the inspiration
for me reaching out to them. I wouldn't have known about them if it weren't for
you. And, and you truly do love their clothing and love their brand and love the style of it.
Love the look of it. I've always loved you, Catherine, for how you value things that are
going to look good forever. Like you said, like you're not a, you're not a trendy, like you're
going to just hop on something just because you're like, no, I want this to look great forever. And so, uh, whether it's in our house or obviously with your
fashion. So I think CJLA CJLA really embodies that well. So, um, carlyjeanelosangeles.com,
we have a promo code GRKC for 20% off your order, uh, GRKC carlyjeanelosangeles.com.
Check them out. Yeah. And for all you ladies out there, it's also very,
um,
versatile,
which I also really appreciate.
I mean,
I,
so much of the clothes that I own from Carly Jean,
I wear,
I have one pregnant.
I have worn nursing.
I have worn not pregnant or nursing and it's,
and which I kind of appreciate.
I think with Hattie,
when I was pregnant with her,
I was like,
Oh no,
I have to buy a whole new wardrobe of maternity wear that I didn't like.
Maternity clothes are not cute.
I mean, maybe y'all have found really cute ones,
but I don't think they're very cute.
I don't think they're super, yeah, whatever.
And so it's great if like you can wear Carly Jean stuff
in whatever stage you're in, which is awesome.
Yes.
I love that.

Anyway, okay, so just really quickly, earlier today, I posted on our Ghost Runners podcast Instagram story,
hey, does anybody have any questions
for Catherine, things that we should
talk about on the podcast?
A lot of people asked questions
along the route of how did we meet,
what was our initial connection to each other?
Haven't we talked about that?
Have you talked about that?
We've definitely talked about it
on our Patreon episode that Catherine
was on
way back in the day,
uh,
back in Peter's basement.
And,
um,
yeah,
so you can hear all the details.
I think we talked about our proposal story on there as well as just how we
met.
But,
um,
I guess we can say some of the stuff here.
Um,
we met working at Kenna cook together,
a Christian sports camp in Branson,
Missouri.
Um,
and yeah, Catherine, it was her second summer. My first, Working at Kennecock together, Christian sports camp in Branson, Missouri.
And yeah, Catherine, it was her second summer, my first.
And she hadn't worked the first half of the summer.
She was only working the second half.
And you weren't at staff week for whatever reason.
I was on a mission trip.
Oh, goodness.
Yeah.
Before I went and worked with the kids. Before I went and minded, yeah, molded young minds for Jesus.
For 10 cents an hour.
Have you heard about that?
Oh, yeah.
Peter was talking about that.
They're like, yeah, trying to figure out all that interesting stuff.
I guess I shouldn't leave people in the dark.
It doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter.
Hey.
It didn't matter.
We all need to know everything about our lives. It's not about our lives. I know. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. You don't even know us. All right.
Um, uh, anyway, so yeah, I, I had worked the first half and then I was supposed to only work
first half. And then I decided I was going to try to work a little bit longer. Um, and so Catherine
came along with a lot of people that worked in the second half of the summer and I introduced myself to her and like had a two three minute long conversation with her
said she went to Baylor she was a Kappa I was like my sister was a Kappa at K-State how cool
thought you know she was really nice didn't think anything about her like romantically
but then the next day we were passing each other and I said hi to you and what did you think of that and I was a
little freaked out because you said hi Catherine I looked at you and I was like I don't know who
that is how does he know my name pretty forgettable uh well okay so in my defense my side at the
beginning is I missed staff week like Brad said and I was coming in the second half and some of my friends from the previous summer
had said you should, or no, no, no, sorry, that's wrong.
So I came a couple of days early
because I missed staff week.
And so there, some of my friends
from the previous summer had worked the first half.
And so I was talking to one in particular
and he said, you know,
I actually did the same thing you did last summer.
I missed staff week.
And so came a couple of days early.
He said, and I got to know so many of the first session staff people, and then they left. And
then second session came, I didn't know anybody. And so he said, he was like, don't even worry
about getting to know first session people. And I was like, yeah, that's makes so much sense.
Kansas state. Yeah. This guy's, yeah. I'm not going to care about Kansas.
Any kind of thought to that conversation we had in the beginning, because I was like, whatever, your first session, I'm not going to care about Kansas. So I didn't give any kind of thought to that conversation we had in the beginning
because I was like, whatever, your first session.
I'm never going to see you again.
Yeah.
So that's why I did not remember him when he said my name.
Yes.
Just FYI.
So then we went, I guess, just really quick.
I won't get into all the details of our story.
But the initial, you know, just whatever, the beginnings,
we went on a 2-4, which is just 24 hours off.
We had the same two, four just happenstance. We weren't planning it. At least I wasn't,
I wasn't the Lord was. Um, and we all went to famous Dave's barbecue. And I think I was just
across the table from you. I can't remember exactly where you were situated, but I just
remember it was like, it was like a light bulb, like went off where it was like, Whoa, why didn't you notice this girl before? Like, she's so fun. I was like,
I was just so attracted, attracted in the, in the sense of like, you were such, you were such a
lovely person. Like you were like, of course you're pretty and beautiful, but a lot of girls
at camp were pretty. Like there's, you know, there were plenty of pretty girls at camp, I think.
But like there was something special about like just your glow or whatever.
Like just like you're so beautiful.
I don't know.
It was just like, holy cow.
I like this girl a lot.
And so, yeah.
I think it also helped because Emily White was on the 2-4.
Right.
And she was one of my good friends.
So you were probably a little bit more open.
Very comfortable.
Yeah.
Yeah. Very comfortable with her. She's funny. Right. And so was one of my good friends. So you were probably a little bit more open. Very comfortable. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah.
Very comfortable with her.
She's funny.
Right.
And so we were funny together.
Or, you know, comfortable.
Another guy that was there was also a veteran.
So I think you kind of were comfortable around him.
So we knew him from the summer before.
Yes.
Yep.
So.
So anyway, I was smitten.
I was ready to talk to you.
And anyway, longer story than that.
The rest is history.
But yeah, we're here.
We're together. Yep. You're in Kansas. but yeah, we're here. We're together.
Yep. You're in Kansas. Thank you for being in Kansas. You're welcome. Beautiful summers.
Beautiful summer, summer evenings in particular. Yes. Summer evenings. Um, okay. Uh, yeah,
there's a lot of questions on here about parenting, marriage, uh, things like that.
And we can get into some of them. Um, Somebody asked, what's your favorite part of our life stage right now?
I know it's an extreme thing.
I don't know.
Just parenting.
Little kids.
Little kids are fun.
Yeah.
They're so fun.
Yeah, they're so fun.
And they say so many funny things.
Yeah.
You just never know what's gonna happen
uh some days i'm fearful for them being older other days i'm excited about them getting older
not because i'm tired of them being little but just like i'm fearful of what exactly like what
do you mean just like teenagers fearful of parenting them as teenagers yeah them like
being exposed to the world as teenagers or fearful parenting teenagers yeah yeah but then
again i mean i said this recently i love every stage every stage has goods every stage has bads
so teenagers years are going to be very interesting but and there's gonna be a lot of great things
about too i look at some other moms that have older kids i'm like oh that's so fun that's so
fun right i love that't you so intrigued to see
what our kids are going to be like as teenagers?
Who knows?
Who knows what Hattie gets interested in
in the next 10 years?
It's like, yeah,
maybe she's going to be just obsessed with dance
or with woodworking.
We're a little worried about her athleticism.
She's done gymnastics for a year now
for a year sweet girl
and she's still
jumping
keeping her feet together
yeah
is still
a task
that she's working on
yeah
she's gotten better
she has improved
but she loves it
I feel like if the other kid
improved
the following week
and
so
yeah but yeah but she doesn't notice.
No, yeah.
Yeah, she's not fazed by it.
She's gleeful.
Yeah.
She likes it.
She still loves it.
I don't know if this is like a favorite part of this stage
or just a favorite thing that happens sometimes.
It's like a little tiny thing.
But maybe I've talked about this on the podcast a little bit.
But anytime we're all five in the same room or in like a small space, it's like so fun to me.
I think like, like every once in a while, all five of us will just be on the bed together
or tonight you were in, you were in the bathroom, the kid's bathroom, which is different.
I don't need tiniest room in our house.
There's a, there's a limitations thing.
Brad was sitting on the edge of the tub.
Bo, I think was sitting on the toilet.
Patty was brushing her teeth and I was walking in the edge of the tub. Bo, I think, was sitting on the toilet. Patty was brushing her teeth.
And I was walking in to fill up
the diffuser.
And as I was walking in, I was chuckling
in my brain because I was like,
there's literally not room for all four of us to stand
in this room. And yet you still
fill up the diffuser in there instead of
all the other sinks that we have. Didn't even consider another sink.
Didn't even think about it. I just thought, this is the only one I can go to
right now for this task. That bathroom stresses me out. Didn't even consider another sink. Didn't even think about it. I just thought this is the only one I can go to right now for this task.
Yeah.
It's in here.
That bathroom stresses me out.
Anything else, I'm excited about it.
Especially because since we're potty training,
we've got the chair with the steps on it.
Yes.
I hate that thing so much.
There's no room in that.
I get so frustrated every time I have to go to the bathroom
and I see that thing.
Yeah.
But hopefully, Bo's progressing.
I don't know.
Yeah, he is. He totally is.
He's just not initiating it.
He's holding it.
We're going to test him out tomorrow in the car for seven hours.
No, you're not. You're not going to
put a diaper on him.
No. Yes, you are.
The book says don't
put it back on him.
And I will say the past
couple days we have done the pull-up during quiet time.
And he knows it.
Today, he peed in it.
And I was asking him, I was like, why did you?
You were supposed to keep it dry.
He goes, I just didn't know.
I said, you didn't know what?
You didn't know you weren't wearing underwear?
He was like, no, I just didn't know I was going.
He always knows when he's going in his underwear.
I don't buy it.
You buy that?
Yes.
Bo tells me the truth.
Okay.
I don't know.
We have a special bond.
Bo's been lying a little bit lately.
I know, but trust me.
Okay.
He's telling the truth.
Yeah.
Anyway.
Anyway.
We all like to be in the same room.
Okay.
Next question.
Alyssa Beck Morris.
This is a fun one.
What would your dream music festival lineup be? Just a big music gal. That is like the worst question to ask me. I mean,
okay. Sorry. No offense to Alyssa, whoever it is. It's a great question. It's a great question.
Did you say that's the worst question? I'm just not your target audience for that question.
No, you went to like, you've been to like seven or eight Coachella's, right? Yeah. Yeah. I've been five times. You were on the ACL starting committee. I could not care
less about music festivals. Um, I don't think I want to, I don't think I might go to a good
concert. It has like three people I really like, but I don't think I would want to go to a music
festival. That sounds exhausting to me. Yeah.
Yeah.
I'd be done after six hours.
I don't even truly love concerts.
I've been to a handful of them and eight out of the 10 I've gone to have been need to breathe.
And I've concerts.
I thought you were talking about festivals.
No,
no, no,
no concerts.
Yeah.
And I've loved need to breathe and I love them in concert.
Yeah.
Um,
so need to breathe.
Need to breathe.
Be there. Uh. Um, so need to breathe. Need to breathe. Be there.
Uh,
um,
I,
I just recently started listening to Colby Calais again.
Okay.
So need to breathe,
you know,
C squared.
Uh,
yeah.
Who did you listen to the other day?
You're like,
you've never heard of this guy.
Yeah.
Um,
no one's heard of this guy.
Yes.
Now I can't, of course, think of it.
I always want to say Dave Barnes.
It's not Dave Barnes.
Andy Davis.
Okay.
Comment below if you've heard of Andy Davis.
Try my best to be funny.
Or what's it called?
Laugh till you don't cry.
Laugh so you don't cry.
Yeah, totally.
Everyone knows that song.
That's why you remember the name of it.
Okay.
So Need to Breathe.
Andy Davis.
Colby Calais.
Andy Davis.
You were just talking about how you, uh, like the beach boys. I love the beach boys. And then also this is, I wasn't
planning to talk about this. Uh, literally right before we came over here, this was so random of
you, Kath. You were like, you started playing a song on your phone and I was like, what are you
doing? Like, why are you just like, Oh, I'm just looking for something to listen to.
And I was like, oh, like you're like downloading some songs for tomorrow.
What song was it?
I don't remember.
It was a T-Pain.
It was like the most, you were like, you're like, I just look up 2000s pop and I just
want to listen to some 2000s pop.
No, it's a playlist that I have saved on Spotify.
Early 2000s pop.
And you literally, it was like, you wanted to listen to music. You nevers pop. And you literally it was like you
wanted to listen to music. You never do this.
You listen to podcasts. You are not with
me 24-7. You don't know.
I mean, I bet you listened to it for
eight minutes maybe. It wasn't like you were like
I got a long work session. I'm going to listen to some
early 2000s pop with some T-Pain
and Kobe Calais. It was like
you've listened to it for no time
at all.
Because I was trying to decide what I wanted. Currently the song pulled up on my it was like it was just like you've listened to it for no time at all and then you were done
currently the song pulled up on my spotify is sexy back oh kath you're not supposed to say that word
sorry sexy front okay anyway um okay just just scroll through a few more of those songs on there
and tell us what else is on the 2000 playlist because now that i i thought it was like a
spotify playlist that you were
just like playing yeah no
but this is like you chose these songs no
no no no no
um live your life
can I hear
that yeah turn up a little bit
yeah
you imagine Catherine just going nuts at the music festival this time.
Let's see here.
Put it up.
I can't hear it.
Yeah.
Do you remember that like YouTube kid?
It's a great song.
Who was like, he might've been old, but he looked like a little kid and he would sing
all those like lip sync songs.
I remember this song specifically, he would go nuts too.
It's a good song. I'll find it and we can put it in.
I want to see if I can find that T-pain.
Little Avril.
Yeah, whatever. It's a lot here.
Yeah, it is. It's good. It's good. It's a lot here. Yeah, it is. Yeah, it's good.
It's good.
It's throwback.
It makes me think of happier times.
I should say happier times.
It makes me think of fun times.
Yes.
College, high school.
Yeah, thanks for saying happier.
Yeah, I know, sorry.
It makes me think of the time where I was happy in life.
When I was the happiest in my life.
Sorry, this is very loud now.
The Great Escape, Boys Like Girls.
See, I didn't really know them at all.
Do you know this one?
No, I don't think so.
Really?
High school.
High school Catherine loves this one.
This song is awesome.
It has a long intro.
The chorus is good, y'all.
I don't know if we're going to get copyright stricken for how long it is.
Oh, yeah, sorry.
Who knows?
I have no idea how it works.
I feel like if it's on our phone.
Okay.
Okay, this song, we played it like five times in a row in Florida.
Were you there for that?
At the crawfish boil?
It was on the playlist.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, it was.
And like Rachel Flickinger just came alive with this song.
Thank you.
Yes, so of girls did.
So many people did.
Yes,
exactly.
Because it's a wonderful throwback.
Banger.
Banger.
Banger.
I could just hear Catherine at this music festival.
Oh,
this song is a banger.
You guys are y'all.
Anybody need sunscreen?
Yeah.
Right.
I don't wear sunscreen.
We won't get into that.
Yeah.
Right.
Um,
okay.
Uh, and Shernie wants to know what's your most read book in your Bible or what's your go-to. Oh, she's chewing ice. All right.
My answer, I think is going to be the same as your answer. So, uh, I was going to say James
is like, if, uh, I just feel like it's the most, for me, the most like easy to apply book of the Bible.
Um, and so, yeah, it's just a great reminder. And it's like, Hey, these are a lot of times
very simple principles, but also things that I am, you know, struggling with or don't do as well
as I could. So, um, it's also a great one to do if you're teaching a Bible study and you want to,
yeah. It's very practical.
Yes, this is very practical.
It's very like, very easy, easily applicable.
Is that what you were going to say too?
It would probably be a tie between, the question is most read.
Is that right?
Yeah, I think so.
And then it also said, or your go-to.
Okay, yeah.
It would probably be a tie between James and Proverbs.
Okay.
I do Proverbs a day a lot.
I go in and out of that.
I'm doing it right now with the kids.
Right.
With morning time stuff.
So, which I love.
I mean, yeah.
Everybody, there's your challenge for the month of June.
You should read the Proverbs for the day.
Yeah.
Because it's very convicting.
That's good.
In a good way.
And it's different than James because like you're saying, James is a lot more practical.
Like you can read it and know exactly what it's talking about.
Proverbs is a lot more of a thinker.
It's a lot more, I don't know.
I don't know.
It's like the reasons of why you do what you do and that kind of stuff.
Okay.
Yeah.
And also I had a question, who's the pickier eater?
And I think the answer is definitely you yeah that's probably true yeah it's pretty great i can throw anything on a plate and brad
i'll eat it yeah which is nice it's nice as somebody who cooks for somebody else yes well
my mindset is she's cooking for me yeah don't bite the hand that feeds you like good mindset
to have.
Sometimes I'll be honest and be like, I like this one, but it wasn't my favorite.
And you're always very accepting of that.
Yeah.
You're never like, that's really hurtful to me.
I worked really hard on this.
Yeah.
Because I know you worked really hard on it. I'm just like, I learned from my mom a few times the hard way where I would say really
nice things about it.
And then she thought, oh, that's Brad's favorite meal.
I'll make it,
you know, every two weeks.
And that's very,
your mom.
Yeah.
Yes.
To hear,
to,
to,
to hear that and be like,
Oh my gosh,
I would love for him to be happy at dinner all the time.
So I'm going to make this.
Yeah.
And my mom would like literally in her recipe card,
like write the notes,
like the words that my dad and I would say about it.
Like,
you know,
in parentheses,
really great.
You know, I love this Dave, you know, all these different things. So my mom, yeah, she's like,
you said you love this. And I was like, dang it. Okay. I need to learn that. Be honest about stuff.
But, um, you're, you're not that bad. I feel like you're pickier with fast food than I am. That's,
that's where we differ. Like on a road trip, you're like, I don't want to do McDonald's.
When do I want to do McDonald's?
I'll do it all day every day.
I will eat McDonald's french fries.
Okay.
I'll eat their french fries.
Because they're like the best french fries in the world.
They're pretty good.
But their burgers, give them a chance.
I mean, if I have to.
I do like how they do their burgers.
Isn't it pickles and diced onions?
Yeah, it's nice.
Yeah, I do like that combo a lot.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay, so let's get McDonald's next time we're on a road trip.
Okay, let's see.
Malik Andrew.
Malik Andrew.
Malik Andrew asked,
when one person has a dream or desire,
the other wasn't part of the original plan, like podcasting, what do we do?
What's the answer to that?
I thought this was a funny or not a funny question.
Man, that was like the worst question you could have asked.
No, I'm sorry.
No, no, no.
Melissa, Avery, whoever you are.
I'm trying to remember, like, did we ever, I think every once in a while you would be like, what do you, what do you, what do you see us in five years? What do you do? And I would always
like, not really get frustrated, but like never, I think I would get frustrated. I didn't have an
answer to that. Cause I'm not that kind of person. Like, and so I don't know if we really had like a,
this is our plan for the next five years, or this is our plan for this. Um, just because
so often when I look back on our lives, I'm like, if you would have, if
I would have had to like try to plan this, obviously I wouldn't have been able to think
about any of the things I'm doing.
Sure.
Yeah.
Having, running a woodworking business, you know, leading worship, you know, whatever,
all these different things, interim youth ministry stuff that we did together.
Yeah.
It was always like, like if, if we was ever like, well, this is the plan and these opportunities came up,
I think I would be like,
well,
it's not the plan.
I'm not going to do that.
And so I think to an extent for me,
yeah,
we don't,
we purposely don't try to plan too far ahead with things because we're like,
we just want to see what God is going to do for our lives.
Is that true?
Is that what?
Yeah.
I feel like we've more just stepped into things in our life together.
Stepped into ministry, stepped into podcasts.
Never, oh, the plan was for Brad to start a podcast, which has been true.
And my plans never work.
I mean, my plan was not to be here for 10 years.
Sure.
And here I am yeah so um
yeah i would say we're definitely on more of the non-planner side of things not hopefully not to
the irresponsible side of it but no yeah just yeah we have systems place, but we don't plan. Yeah.
We don't have like, we are moving houses in three years or we are doing this and like,
we can't do it until this happens or whatever.
It's like, hey, if the Lord blesses us with X, Y, Z, then let's-
Yeah.
And I feel like we've walked into it together as far as when the woodworking thing started.
Yeah.
You started selling them and you started working longer and longer that was a conversation
then of what do you think about this should we do this should we see where this goes
okay you know same same with buying a house or same with like you know eventually we will outgrow
the house we were in we are in and i don't think it's going to be because we're on a timeline.
Well, we said we were going to be in this house for five years, and it's getting close to five years,
so it's time to start looking for another one.
Right.
I don't think.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, we've been in this house.
Five plus years?
Oh, six years, I think.
That wild?
Yeah, because I remember buying it, and you said, I think we'll be here five to seven years.
And I was like, my gosh, that's a long time.
Yeah. Golly. He said, I think we'll be here five to seven years. And I was like, my gosh, it's a long time.
Golly.
I know.
We keep finding room for the kids.
I don't know.
It's not a very big house.
Not a very big house.
We're doing it.
Okay.
This is one that we kind of answered yesterday.
So I'll talk about it more maybe with Jay.
No, I'll talk about it on this podcast with you.
My time with LJ was just so fun and so cool.
So there's a ghost that listens to our podcast named LJ Del Papa.
Shout out, LJ.
How about that for a name?
How about LJ Del Papa?
Yeah.
LJ Del Papa.
And he listens to the podcast.
I don't know him personally, but he worked at K-West with Jake.
I know his older sister a little bit.
And so he emailed me.
He's like, hey, man, about to be a dad here in a little bit. And so he emailed me, he's like, Hey man, I'm about to be a dad here in a few months. I was wondering if we could talk sometime and you know, you could give me some,
some wisdom, some guidance. And I'm like, first of all, very humble of like, wow, I don't,
I don't know if I deserve that praise, but thank you. And I'm like, yeah, absolutely. Of course.
And he's like, okay, great. I'll be in Kansas or I can be in Kansas City this day from,
so we can meet anywhere from like 11 to five. Great. Sounds cool. Like, yeah, let's get lunch.
Uh, you know, where are you staying or what we can figure out the location. He's like, well,
I'm flying in at 10 15 and I'm leaving at six. I was like, wait, dude, like,
are you coming to Kansas city just to like hang out with me? Yeah. It's like this thing that went from like, Oh, you know, just a phone
call to, Oh, he's in Kansas city for work or something. And he's got some time to squeeze
me in is like, no, he'd be in very intentional coming here. And so I'm like, okay, let's make
this thing worthwhile. It was so cool and so fun, um, to meet him. He's a stud of a dude. Um, yeah,
he and his wife Meredith, uh, or, are about to have their first baby.
And I'm just so confident he's going to be an awesome dad.
Anybody that does something like what he's doing, I'm like, dude, yeah, that's amazing.
He's a Baylor Bear.
Baylor Bear.
Come on.
He's a Texan.
Lives in Texas.
Just a good dude all around.
How could he go wrong?
So we got lunch.
LJ and I got lunch with my dad.
We got barbecue, which was really fun.
I kind of spontaneously asked at the last minute, like, dad, would you be willing to come? And he was like, yeah,
that sounds awesome. Uh, barbecue and talking about, yeah, family. Yeah. He loves that. But,
um, I did write down some just really practical things for, uh, him as far as newborns and stuff.
And I thought one of the things I was like really excited about, uh, or like just practically
like is being an advocate for your wife. And I think that's the one that you and I, because,
so I, I kind of mentioned these to him while we were home with Catherine. So it was kind of fun
to like, yeah, rehash these with Catherine. Um, especially in the newborn stages, I feel like,
yeah, being an advocate, you know, whether it's like people coming over to your house and visiting
you and having the, like seeing the baby and you being like, Hey, it's time for you to leave. Catherine needs to
rest. Baby needs their rest or whatever. Like, um, or even in the hospital we talked about,
there was one time Catherine had a really rough nurse. You want to talk about that?
Oh, I guess I'll try to be nice. No, no. I was in the hospital on bed rest when i was pregnant with hattie um for two weeks
two and a half yeah about two weeks um and yeah it was a long time to be in there i got to know
all the nurses pretty well um and there was this one nurse that i had pretty consistently and
we did not jive she's got on our nerves a little bit.
And at first it was like. Just personality.
Yeah.
At first it was like, oh, you're just kind of a little bit like aggravating to us.
And then eventually it was like, oh, I think I don't like you.
I think I don't like you actually at all.
And here you are all the time.
The reason that you were in the hospital was because Hattie was having like these irregular heartbeats.
And so every once in a while, like the baby's heartbeat would just go way down, obviously in your stomach. And like, she would be like, oh, that little turd is
just, yeah. What's that little turd doing or something like that? Her bedside manner could
use some work. I don't like you calling my daughter a turd. Yeah. Yeah. My first like
protective dad instinct. Yeah. Time in my life. So anyway, she was a struggle. And so there was
one day and yeah, well, whatever. And there
was one day when I was just having a bad day for whatever reason. I don't remember anymore.
You were in the hospital for two and a half weeks in a row.
Yeah, that's probably it. And I got to go outside one time during those two weeks because I had an
angel of a nurse that day. Anyway.
We literally watched the seasons change while you were at the hospital.
It snowed while I was there.
It snowed and then it was like 75 degrees.
Tornado came through while we were there.
That's right.
We had to go to that room.
We had to go to the storm.
Oh, my goodness.
Cellar.
It wasn't a cellar storm room.
I don't know what it was.
Oh, I forgot about that.
I know.
Crazy weather those two weeks.
Yeah.
Anyway, what was I saying?
Oh, yeah.
Had a bad day.
Daniel Powder song on the 2000s pop.
It's on my playlist.
I was crying, I think, to Brad at one point in the day.
I was like, and to top it all off, I've had Helen.
We'll call her Helen.
Helen would be a tough nurse name.
And I've had Helen for the past three days.
I just can't take it anymore.
So Brad was like, well, I'll just go out there and talk to them and say, we don't want Helen. And me, I was like, no, do not do
that. Like that would be even more awkward. Can you imagine? Oh my gosh. Don't do that.
You're like the most, like not so most opinionated, but like you always have opinions,
but you also don't like inconveniencing people. And I'm like the opposite.
I don't have that many opinions. It'll be fine I'm like the opposite. It's like, whatever. I'll just suck it up.
It'll be fine.
Yeah.
So anyway, long story short, come to find out, Brad had indeed, after we had that conversation,
gone out to the nurse station, talked to the head nurse, charge nurse, whatever, and was
very nice in what you told me of just like, hey, could we have a different nurse tomorrow?
We just, we haven't, I don't even know what you said.
We haven't.
I was like, honestly, the head nurse or whatever was like,
hey, is it possible to not?
I was like, if it's possible, can we just request not to have a specific nurse?
And the lady was like, is it Helen?
And I was like, yeah.
Yeah, I know.
Because it's pretty easy to know.
Is it the one that calls your baby fecal matter? Yeah, that one. Yeah, okay. Is it I think they kind of knew. Because it's pretty easy to know. Is it the one that calls your baby fecal matter?
Yeah, that one?
Yeah, okay, yeah.
Is it the one that kind of has a bad attitude all day long?
Anyway, whatever.
So yeah, they kind of knew.
So it was fine.
But I didn't know Brett had done that.
So the next day, my nurse was the charge nurse,
which is the head nurse.
And so she checked on me so many times.
She was like, okay, we're going to have our in-house masseuse
come and give you a massage today. And we're going to do, like I forget what all she did on me so many times. She was like, okay, we're going to have our in-house masseuse come and give you a massage today.
And we're going to do like,
I forget what all she did for me,
but it was awesome.
Oh my gosh,
I've had the best day ever.
Um,
and then Brad was like,
okay,
I need to confess something.
I went and talked to them.
yeah,
I'm so glad I did,
which,
um,
here's a,
here's a followup story though,
to Helen.
I always forget what name I gave her.
Uh, I like how, if we would have said her name, like everyone would have known her or
something.
I know.
I know.
Yeah.
Anyway, I, so that was with Hattie, which was in 2017 is when I had her.
So a few years later I get pregnant with Bo at the same doctor, the same hospital, you
know, yada, yada.
And kind of around the same time, actually it was like 32 or 33 weeks. I don't remember, but it doesn't matter. You don't even know all this. And I can't remember him, but I had to go to the
hospital to get some steroid shots because Bo was doing something, I guess. I don't remember.
I was in the, the triage. Is that what they call it? I guess the triage room,
because it was just like a, like my doctor's office is next door to the hospital. So she was I was in the triage. Is that what they call it? I guess the triage room.
Because it was just like my doctor's office is next door to the hospital.
So she was like, just run over there.
They'll give you the shots so you can leave.
Okay, great.
So I'm in there and the nurse that's helping me is like, okay, let me run out and get him.
I'll be right back.
Okay.
So she pulls the curtain closed when she leaves.
And two seconds later, that curtain opens and it is Helen standing there and I'm so close to saying her real name it is Helen and she just pulls the curtain back and she just goes hello
and I and she had this look on her face that she was like
hi what like like she was mad that you didn't say that you were there or something kind of just like
i don't even know how to explain it so i'm like oh my gosh she's like do you remember me
and i said yes helen hi she's like well i just didn't know if you were going to want to see me
or not sheesh and i was like my gosh woman i was like no why would you say that I'm so glad you said hi and I think
another nurse had probably already stopped by that had to remember me anyway um no why would
you think that oh my goodness I'm so glad you came by how are you doing well anyway long story
short she was like her last week there she was moving to like Detroit or something
Detroit like that seems like the kind of city
she would move to. I know. I was like, Helen, I am pumped for you. You're going to love it there.
Good luck to you. Oh my goodness. Anyway, I don't know how it got on Helen. Yeah. Just,
just newborn tips. I think as people ask like, Hey, Oh yes. Be an advocate. Be an advocate for
your wife. Just serve her well. Yeah. There's only so
much you can do once the baby's born. As a husband, physically, obviously, the wife is sustaining the
baby differently than you are, but you can do everything else around the house. You can let her
have the freedom to worry physically and emotionally just about the baby and not much
else. Along with obviously helping out with the baby too.
So,
um,
we have a few more questions.
Let's,
uh,
let's talk about our third sponsor real quick.
C3 bros cooking with Lori.
Uh,
this is like the best podcast episode for Catherine to be on because she
loves all these brands so much.
This is a brand new sponsor.
Pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,
pam,

pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, pam, And so anyway, C3 Bros. Heather, take it away,
honestly. Do you want to just talk about them too? Yes. I love this company. I heard about them
from another company that I really like. It's called CJLA uh one time on their instagram they were talking about this other
company so cool okay i trust you anyway they make these seasoning packets um straight from heaven
straight from heaven they're so good above they are so good um i'm trying to figure out how to
explain so like so one of our favorite recipes or seasoning packets that she has is called crispy sage chicken. And so you buy a seasoning
packet and it comes with a recipe card. Um, and a lot of these recipes, you only need the seasoning
packet and you know, chicken and like maybe one other ingredient, some, you need a few more,
but anyway. Um, and it's amazing. And they have all these different kinds for all these different meals.
And the crispy sage chicken is our absolute favorite.
Yep.
Um,
what's that one Greek chicken one?
The Greek grilled chicken is Brad's favorite.
It's nuts.
Brad goes crazy on that one.
So good.
Yeah.
Mediterranean,
uh,
chicken and rice.
So good.
What's that one that you made like the whole chicken with recently?
The roasted chicken.
Roasted chicken.
It's amazing.
It's on my stove right now.
Yeah.
Um, the stove is off, but it's on my stove right now. Yeah. The stove is off,
but it's on my stove right now.
Yes.
Their garlic butter shrimp.
Garlic butter shrimp.
Hattie loves garlic butter.
Yeah.
Yes.
I mean-
Southwestern fish.
Pork tenderloin is nice.
Pork tenderloin is my favorite way
to cook a pork tenderloin.
I don't cook pork tenderloins
any other way
except for this way now.
I've never-
Because the seasoning is so good.
Truly.
I've never in my life
been excited about pork.
Like there's certain words
that if you say
I will not be excited about them.
One of them is pork tenderloins.
The other one is roast.
And she has packets like.
For both.
Yeah.
C3 roast.
Simple roast.
Yes.
So, so good.
I will eat that roast gladly.
Yeah.
As will our kids.
Our kids love.
Yes.
All of them.
Right.
I'm trying to think of one
they don't love.
Like they, they love them all. Our kids are decently picky eat I'm trying to think of one they don't love. They love them all, which is awesome.
Our kids are decently picky eaters when it comes to combining foods together.
They're okay most of the time eating chicken season.
If it's combined together in whatever way, they don't usually love it.
But they love – it's just a home run every time with C3 Bros.
C3bros.com.
So there's all these different I mean probably 50 plus
packets out there and they're all really
they're all healthy like they're all like there's no
artificial flavors or you know
like whatever all the other
junk that's in other seasoning packets
that you should not buy at the grocery store we've truly fallen
in love with this company
with Lori I mean the brand I mean
it is a small
business. They're not, they're not some like factory. Yeah. They're from outside of Houston.
Yeah. A wonderful family got to talk to him on the phone for like an hour before they committed
to sponsoring, which I was kind of jealous about. Yeah. I was like, tell Lori I love her.
Yeah. Just, they're so cool. They're, it was started by these three brothers,
these three teenage boys. They're all of Lori. I don't even know if they're teenagers.
There's young kids.
They had this one specific packet that was just good on everything.
And then now they have all different kinds of packets.
Lori is just a wonderful ambassador of the brand.
And it's, it's a great thing for us to have at home,
but it's also one of our favorite things to give as gifts as well.
I love giving it. I mean, I have given it to probably everybody I know the past year and a
half. I mean, I've given him as birthday gifts. I did stocking stuffers. Everybody got one.
Because you can just do one or you can do a bunch of them.
Yeah. They have bundles. Yeah. But I did stocking stuffers for everyone in my family,
everyone in Brad's family this year. She has several different grill recipes,
which is what I gave a lot of the men.
Um,
and I mean, you could give them,
I mean,
they'd make great teacher gifts.
They make great friend gifts.
They make great,
I mean,
new neighbor gifts.
I mean,
truly,
I mean,
you could give them to anyone and everyone.
Truly so good.
So yeah,
they have,
they have seasoning packets,
they have subscription boxes,
they have bundles,
all these different things.
So check them out, c3bros.com.
I believe our promo code is GRKC for 15% off.
So check that out.
You'll love them.
You'll love them.
You'll want to, yeah.
Whether you have somebody who's a foodie or somebody that doesn't know much about food,
they will enjoy and be inspired by C3 Bros.
The number three, the letter C as in Carrie.
Cow.
Cow.
C3, the number three, bros.com.
You like that?
Yes.
Carrie is this random name that I thought of
based off no other stories from the podcast.
What?
Is that all for that sponsor?
That's all for C3Bros.com.
Check them out.
Y'all will love them.
Okay.
A few quick ones and then we'll wrap this thing up.
Thanks for doing this with us, Kath.
I'm getting tired.
My cherry juice is kicking in.
Oh, okay.
KS Snow wants to know what makes katherine cringe from
the podcast uh are there any times you're like oh he shouldn't have said that every oh there's
lots of times but i mean crit okay well first off i knew he was gonna say this he had my permission
to say this but for me personally having two of the most vulnerable times of my life,
AKA the birth of two of my children shared on a podcast, it's pretty cringy to me.
Was there anything in there that was like, I wish you would have said it differently
or that's not how it went or?
I feel like sometimes when that story is shared and I don't remember specifically on the podcast
episode, I'd have to go back and listen to it.
But sometimes when that story is shared, I think our midwife kind of gets a bad rap um kind of
like where was she what took her so long okay yeah and yeah that's not true she's awesome and she did
nothing wrong and it was all me being like yeah yeah like I I remember it was all your fault no
I'm just kidding yeah kind of you were just so I remember trying to be so kind Like I remember. It was all your fault. No, I'm just kidding. Yeah, kind of.
You were just so,
you were trying to be so kind.
Yeah, I remember her,
I remember calling her
and updating her on my contractions
and I had my phone
with the contraction timer or counter
or whatever on there.
And according to my phone,
it said that my contractions
were coming every three minutes.
And for whatever dumb reason,
I was like, that's probably not right.
So I told my midwife five minutes.
You just straight up lied.
Like, why?
That's right.
I forgot about that.
Why?
You're like, I probably didn't press the timer right.
Yeah.
I was like, that's probably a fluky few that I've had.
Like, no, that just went really quick.
I'm sure that was just kind of fluky.
So like in her defense, she was doing the best she could with the information she had.
Right.
So anyway, yeah, I feel like sometimes I feel bad could with the information she had. Right. So anyway,
yeah,
I feel like sometimes I feel bad for her.
She's awesome.
And I don't want anyone to be like,
golly,
I'm not using that midwife.
Cause she's great.
No,
we're,
I mean,
we're not pregnant,
but if we were,
I think we would use her again.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So Pile City 2.0 coming soon to speakers near you.
Yeah. So yeah, I kind of, I kind of cringy. Yeah. Cringuddle City 2.0 coming soon to speakers near you. So yeah, I kind of cringy.
Yeah.
Cringy on those.
Okay.
And then there's just a lot of questions on here just about parenting advice.
It's one of those things I think we're very careful.
We like giving parenting advice of things we're learning.
At the same time, we're like, we haven't proved that we know what we're doing yet.
Like kids are six and under,
right.
Our proof will be when they are,
you know,
married and we have launched them.
Yeah.
Um,
but a lot of people specifically are asking about advice on the transition
from either zero to newborns,
like we just talked about,
or just one to two,
two to three,
kind of like that kind of thing.
And I feel like you have some good wisdom, good reflections that you've had on that.
You'll have to remind me.
You have talked about how one to two was more of a change than two to three,
which might be encouraging to people that are like, well, I don't know how I can do three if
two is already hard. Yeah, I think the whole concept of the Lord gives you, most often, one at a time.
And I think that's on purpose because I think he does everything on purpose.
But because when you have your first, it's like, oh my gosh, this is so hard.
This is a lot.
I don't know what I'm doing.
This is so difficult.
And I remember after having my first, looking at anybody that had more than one being like, wow, I don't understand how you get
out of the house. Yeah. I'm like, how are you clean? Like how, I don't know. How do you ever
get dinner on the table? Um, but your capacity grows. And so I, I think that one to two was harder than two to three
because I think two to three, you're already used to a lot.
Not that two is a lot, but you're already used to somewhat chaos,
somewhat craziness.
You've gotten better at managing it.
You've put more systems in place.
And so therefore, when a third one comes, yeah, it's another baby.
But I feel like after having Beau, I remember it took me,
I feel like it was months before I was like
making dinner
like with you gone
me having the kids
all day
making dinner
and getting it on the table
that was
such a feat
and
I feel like after Rosie came
it was not
I mean it's not like
I was like
whipping up dinner
one week postpartum
but like
C3 Bros helped yeah they did C3 Bros with good I mean, it's not like I was whipping up dinner one week postpartum. C3 Bros helped.
Yeah, they did.
C3 Bros with good, I mean, great marriage.
That's great marriage, yeah.
But it was not as big of a feat.
I just remember that so much with Bo being like,
I don't think I could ever get dinner on the table on time.
And with Rosie, it was never really.
It was like, yeah, I mean, I will.
I know I will.
You just adjust your standards of chaos. Yeah. Not even chaos, but just like your standard of being overwhelmed. I think like,
yeah, I think there's been times where we've had one child, two child, two child, one child,
two child and three child. And, uh, every like in each stage, I'm like, I don't know how we could
ever have any more than this. Like, like with one, I remember thinking that a few, I'm like, I don't know how we could ever have any more than this. Like,
like with one, I remember thinking that a few times I was like, this is crazy. I don't,
I can't imagine having more than like you're saying, like, but then you just adjust. And like with one, I remember I was so nervous every time they cried or like, yeah, like, or whatever,
like not just like, just like, I can't handle them crying at all. And you know, with two,
you start getting used to a little bit more. And then with three, it's like, whatever, as long as,
you know, they're contained, they'll be fine.
Yeah. It is. I mean, that's just the same with so many things in life. Like the first time you do
something you've never done before. Yeah. You got to learn. Yeah. I mean, same. Yeah. With birth,
like the first time you do it, it's terrifying. You don't know what you're going to do. And the
second time, the third time, it's not like you're like super pumped to do it, but you know, what's
coming. So it's like, well, I know what to expect. I know, you know, so it's not as you're like super pumped to do it, but you know what's coming. So it's like, well,
I know what to expect. I know,
you know,
so it's not as big of a deal really,
I guess.
I don't know.
Yeah.
So cool.
Yeah.
I forget what the original question was.
Well,
just to train,
I think it was just like,
Hey,
like tips for going from one to two.
Oh yeah.
Go easy on yourself in the beginning.
Always.
Um, also don't be afraid to do it on your own meaning like sorry i'm thinking of more of like getting dinner on the table but i feel like
sometimes it's easy or sometimes i see new moms be like oh i can never like i can't like i have
to wait for my husband to get home or like I can't try that until somebody else takes a baby.
Or I can't venture out.
I can't go get some coffee with someone.
And, you know, whatever.
Just try it.
Sure.
Just try it.
If it goes horribly, it goes horribly.
That's fine.
I mean, you know, whatever.
Go let your husband pick up dinner on the way home.
Whatever.
Cool.
Yeah.
I can't find it.
One last, maybe one last one.
You having fun right now?
Is it fun?
Sure.
That's not what that was a question.
But somebody said something along the lines of,
we have a three-month-old and our marriage is not going,
like tips for marriage with a newborn
because it's been a little bit of a tough time.
And I guess my encouragement to that is just like,
it's going to be tough.
With a newborn, just everything's just different. I guess my encouragement to that is just like, it's going to be tough. Like with, with the
newborn, just everything's, everything's just different. Like, especially if it's your first
one, you're just, you're just struggling to, to, to get, not get by, but you know, like,
like you're not thriving yet when you have a three month old baby, uh, you're like women's
hormones are just all over the place. I think it takes a really, you're learning your baby required to have a baby.
But I think in that postpartum marriage struggles,
I guess it takes a very patient husband because that is by far the moodiest
times of my life.
It's by far the end of the day when I'll be like,
my gosh,
I was so mean.
Why did I snap it at him?
I don't really know why I was.
And so, yeah, those first three months especially.
And so I think it takes a very patient husband, a very kind husband.
And just remember, it's just a stage.
It's like you as the mom, you're not going to feel like that the rest of your time as a mom.
You're sleep deprived and your hormones are nuts and you're possibly getting ready to go back to work.
I mean, it's just there's a lot happening in those first few months.
Just new rhythms, new everything.
Yeah, it's okay.
So it's okay that your marriage is not
the highest spot it's ever been at that moment i guess practically like as a spouse i i talked
about i talked about this with lj the other day because he asked like how are you prioritizing
katherine within you know your lives right now above your kids i thought to myself like man maybe
i i think i am let me make sure I am.
And I think, would you say I am?
Would you say that's true?
I think, yeah.
Yeah.
But I think, yeah.
I think you do that a lot.
Indirectly?
Sorry.
No, yes.
Yeah, indirectly.
Like it's not like you prioritize me above the kids in the sense of like,
okay, I'm going to go.
I'm going to take Catherine on a date twice a week
because I prioritize her over the kids.
But you do it by, you know, today when Bo comes in and says,
hey, can I have a snack?
I said, well, I don't know.
You were just with dad.
Did dad say you can have a snack?
No.
Okay, well, I support him, so the answer is no.
Like that's choosing Brad over my kids.
Yeah, yeah.
Dang it, I was going to say something.
Sorry.
It's okay.
Oh, something I said with LJ, and this is a funny term, I guess,
which is as a practical note, somewhat practical note,
as a husband is always just remember your wife as,
like view your wife as a husband is always just remember your wife as like view
your wife as your maiden. Um, cause I was just, I've heard like that you're like a woman's identity
is changing. Um, not like that guys it's 2023, but no, um, no, but like a woman's identity when
she becomes a mom changes from what we'll call it a maiden, you know, the single or married woman
without kids to a mother. And then eventually when she's a grandmother, she's the matriarch or, you know,
whatever, like maiden mother matriarch is like this progression throughout life. Um, but to you
as the husband, she's always the maiden. In other words, like, Hey, don't, don't just look at her.
Like she's your, uh, you know, kid's mom, look at her. Like she's the woman you fell in love with
and treat her and think about her individually and be like, Hey, how can I help you specifically?
Rather than how can I help you with the kids? You know what I mean? Um, so that's, I guess
something within that, just if, if I were listening, I don't remember if it was a girl or a
guy who asked that question, but if you're a guy or, you know, whatever, a practical thing for the
husbands is just like, Hey, just ask how your wife's doing.
That's how I pursue you, I think, with our newborns.
It's not like we're like, hey, let's do a date night every single week after the kids.
We don't do that now.
We're not regular discipline with that.
And I don't think we need to be because we see each other so much and we communicate enough. But like, um, anyway, I just think like, yeah, you don't
have to be so extreme with like all these very hardcore disciplines, at least in my opinion,
you just have to pursue her and make sure that she recognizes that she's your maiden.
Yeah. And don't put your marriage in a box. I mean, just because something works great for
other people, it might not work great for y'all and that's okay.
We tried to do like the, hey, let's go
on a date every month, you know, kind of thing. Yeah.
We did it for like three months maybe. And it was
fun, sure. Yeah, yeah. But it was, it was,
it wasn't super
needed for our marriage.
It's wanted, sure.
Who wouldn't want to go on a date night once a month,
once a week. But it wasn't super needed
and, you know, when more
kids come, other things are needed.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Well,
we see each other and we talk,
we get to talk somewhat deeply,
at least like about our feelings multiple times a day.
Sometimes,
you know,
like,
yeah,
it's not like,
uh,
we need this time together.
Cause we have,
we're not ships in the night passing kind of thing.
Right.
Exactly.
Anyway.
Cool. Um, this. Anyway. Cool.
This is fun.
I could, we could talk for a long time, but it's getting late.
You're going to Texas tomorrow with three children by yourself.
Thanks for, thanks for being here, Kath.
I know that people always appreciate you and obviously we talk about you a lot.
And so it's just fun to have you here.
And yeah, I don't know.
Anything else you want to say before you end it?
I don't think so. Okay. I don't know. Anything else you want to say before we end it? I don't think so.
Okay.
I don't know.
That's fine.
I know.
I don't know.
What else am I supposed to say?
No, no, no.
Yeah.
Any other Catherine kicks?
Cherry drink?
Tart cherry juice.
Tart cherry juice.
I'm still on my hot chocolate kick.
Did we talk about that ever?
Maybe no one, maybe I talked about it.
I think you talked about it.
Did I?
Yeah. I've been noticing
like, because a lot of times I'll go to bed before
Catherine and I'll wake up and, oh yeah, there's some hot
chocolate, you know, remnants. It's so good.
And, and
just so y'all don't think I'm just chugging
you know, a warm cup of sugar
every night before bed, I use this
you know, like healthy
cocoa and it's called Coco Calm.
It doesn't have bone broth in it, does it?
No, it doesn't have bone broth, but it has-
There are some people that do that, y'all, and-
And good for y'all.
No, I judge you.
I don't.
I think that sounds disgusting.
I do a little.
I do a little because I like bone broth, and I like hot chocolate.
And why in the world would you put those two together?
Because you're a freak.
If you hated bone broth, but really wanted to drink it, that would be the way to do it.
Fair enough.
Yes, but I like bone broth.
Anyway, so hot chocolate.
Yeah, I'm still kind of on that kick.
Yeah.
Because I got off of it for a second,
and then the summer evenings, they're a little bit cool,
a little bit crisp.
Sure, get a little, you know,
get your brio on with your crew neck sweatshirt and a little hot chocolate.
Yeah, a little hot chocolate.
It's just nice.
Fun.
Yeah, it's a nice way to wind down. Yes. When I'm not whining down. Oh, there you go. It's just nice. Fun. Yeah, it's nice to wind down.
Yes.
When I'm not whining down.
Oh, there you go.
Full circle.
All right, Kath.
Well, yeah, thanks again.
I love you.
Thanks for being a great wife and supportive wife and being on the pod.
Sure.
Jake, we miss you.
We do.
Rachel, we miss you more.
Maybe so.
Maybe so.
I don't know.
My kids do.
We had a lot of fun the night after Jake left with Rachel.
Yeah, we did.
She came over and had dinner with, oh, she had crispy sage chicken.
She had crispy sage chicken.
It was so good.
I thought you said Christmas Day chicken.
Christmas Day chicken.
Christmas Day chicken.
After we broke down boxes.
C3bros.com.
Yeah.
Can we talk about, maybe we should wait and talk about that with Jake.
Yeah.
Man, we broke down some boxes.
It was fun.
Rachel texted me today and said,
hey, I know for the thousands of time,
but could you get packages while we're gone?
And she was like,
I'm sure those boxes out on our front porch are giving you PTSD.
What is it?
PTSD.
We had fun.
It was.
It was so fun.
It was a good time with Rachel
and yeah, doing something fun.
So talk about more next week.
But thanks for listening guys
thanks for supporting us um oh i do have one thing to say please um brad would you like to
end it with a jingle oh is that what i'm supposed to say yes very good i uh i'm gonna i'll do the
review of the week in the jingle by myself after you're done okay Okay. That's actually, I would appreciate that. Yeah. So, uh, yeah. Love you,
Kath. Um, see ya. Signing off. All right, cool. Yeah. Thanks, Catherine. Uh, that was really fun.
That was really fun to have her on the podcast. Um, and just do that with her. I think she,
going into it, she's like, I don't know how I'm going to do with this. I don't know.
She's great. She just does a great job. She's fun. Uh, it's just fun
to get that time. I know some friends, like my friend TJ has a podcast with his wife. Um,
and it just seems fun. And I'm like, man, that would be fun to do that more often. So,
uh, always a joy and always a pleasure to talk through marriage parenting things with the person
that I think does it better than anybody. So, um, she's, yeah, like, like,
like we said, we're, we're not perfect. We're not, uh, we haven't proven our, our, that the
concepts that we're doing with our kids are working, but we feel like we are trying to do
the best that we can, um, and following the Lord's guidance. There's no, there's no great,
uh, you know, one size fits all thing for parenting or marriage besides just the
Bible. And so we just use the Bible and try to use other resources, but, um, yeah, anyway,
uh, it's just fun. I just, I just love her. I hope you all enjoyed that. Um, a little change
of pace, uh, Wednesday, we are going to, uh, have, uh, some of my friends on with me. Uh,
some of my buddies, we're going to do some fun schmores. We're going to do some other fun questions, uh, go sees on a couch, whatnot.
Uh, so yeah, be sure to tune in then, uh, our friends are all so funny and such goofy guys.
And so really excited for that. So, uh, I'm going to end this with a review of the week.
Uh, it's coming from Danny Parkhurst. It's a five-star review. It says feels like family.
Uh, Danny Parkhurst has already got her tickets by the way, to August 18th, 19th,
which is so awesome that people are buying plane tickets to come to us,
and we haven't even finalized the details and sent them out yet.
I know I keep saying it every week,
but we are trying our best to get those finalized as soon as possible.
Just know that we're going to have some really fun events, August 18th,
August 19th.
You won't want to miss it.
Book your tickets, book your
accommodations to come to Kansas City. Feels like family, Danny Parker says. Five stars. I can't say
enough wonderful things about Ghostrunners podcast. I'm a fairly new ghostie, started listening in
February of this year, and I can't get enough. I wish there was a new episode every day. Jake and
Brad make me feel like I'm part of something great. They're perfect strangers, yet I feel like
I've known them my whole life because of this podcast.
The love for God, nostalgic topics,
and The Office references are some of my favorite things about this pod,
but it's so much more than that.
There's no other comedy podcast
that has brought tears of laughter so many times
or multiple times in one episode.
Thank you guys so much for making me feel like I belong
and giving me the gift of friendship
through being so genuine and honest with your listeners.
I love you guys, and I hope to meet you soon. Thanks for including me in your lives. God bless you and your family.
Danny from Arizona. I'll be honest. I don't know if I've read that one before or not,
but I love it. And yeah, it's just always fun. I'm going to read another one because Jake's not
here. I don't think we've read this one yet, but if we have, hey, we'll read it again. Ghosty Grace,
Joy in a Darker World, five stars. It says, I don't usually write reviews on podcasts, but I couldn't let another day go by without writing one for the podcast that has brought
so much joy and positivity into our family. Jake and Brad bring so much joy and laughter each and
every time they release a new episode. My five-year-old son says, or my five-year-old,
I don't know if it's a son or daughter says,, put my podcast on every time we get into the car. And we've talked about this one
before too, maybe. Sorry. He talks about Jake and Brad in random conversations because we feel like
we know them. Thanks for bringing joy and laughter into a world that is kind of a dark place
sometimes. I love that my son gets to listen to two men who love Jesus and their families each
and every week. Love a fellow ghostie for life. Thanks, Grace.
It's fun.
We've obviously been working hard to get these awesome new sponsors,
and we're reaching out to these people ourselves because we love all these companies that we support.
And so please support them alongside of us because we're just doing it in our homes.
We're not some big corporation.
We're not working with an agency.
But the fun thing that we get to talk to people about is that our podcast is obviously meant to
be funny, meant to be a joyful time, but it's also, it's turned into something so much deeper
than that for so many people. It's so fun to hear how people are valuing the joy and the positivity
that we're just naturally trying to bring and naturally exuding because we have a love for Jesus and a love for the Lord. And so it's just so fun to read these
reviews and see people appreciating that. Sometimes they say they're motivated to be
different in their own lives. It's just always very humbling to us of like, yes, this podcast
is deeper. This podcast is something special. It's not from our own doing. It's because
God has his hand in this. So thank you guys for listening to this episode. Jake would know exactly
what episode number it is. I don't. I'm terrible at that stuff. I think we're in the 200s. Let's
see. But I don't know. We could be in the 400s, and I'd believe you if you said yes. But really
appreciate you guys. Thanks for listening. Have a great week. We'll see you Wednesday. It's going to be such a fun episode. Don't miss it. And, uh, love you guys so much.
Love you, Kath. Bye. Oh, I don't have a jingle prepared, uh, yet, but I don't think I'm going
to sing a new one, but maybe I will. But if not, then here's an old one. Uh, love you guys.
Time and just choose whatever jingle you like the best. Miss you.
