(Don't know your state delegate/representative or senator? Use this website or let us know, and I will help you!) Here’s a scripted email about no-knock warrants if you don’t know what to write: Hi [State Rep], My name is [YOUR NAME], and I live in your district. I’ve been moved by the protests against police brutality across the nation. One situation that breaks my heart is the killing of Breonna Taylor in Louisville. She was killed in her own home when officers executed a no-knock warrant at the wrong home. Nothing can make up for her tragic loss of life. But no-knock warrants aren’t just a problem in Louisville. Police use no-knock warrants in our district! I’m writing to you in hopes that you will file legislation to ban no-knock warrants. Please see this 2014 ACLU report on police execution of warrants for more info: https://www.aclu.org/sites/default/files/assets/jus14-warcomeshome-report-web-rel1.pdf [Please note that this email may not apply to your district if you live in Oregon or Florida.] Some other articles and resources for non-black people of color regarding anti-blackness in non-white communities: 20+ Allyship Actions for Asians to Show Up for the Black Community Right Now - https://medium.com/awaken-blog/20-allyship-actions-for-asians-to-show-up-for-the-black-community-right-now-464e5689cf3e Letters for Black lives - on talking to your family about why #BlackLivesMatter (with Tagalog translation) - https://www.instagram.com/p/CA5vzQopEiU/?igshid=qo3lluto6ncj This list was only possible because of the countless efforts and hours of many people paving the way. Hello and welcome to a special announcement from Girls Gone Canon.
I'm Chloe.
And I'm Eliana.
This week, our episode, we will not be talking about His Dark Materials or A Song of Ice and Fire like you expect,
but this will be our only episode this week.
Right now is a time of anger, pain, and grieving, not just here in the United States, but heard around the world.
And now is not the time for our voices to be heard.
We'll return with our programming in the future,
but we are standing in solidarity with Black people
and in their fight for basic civil human rights.
This week around the country and around the world,
we have seen protests in response to the recent murder of George Floyd
at the hands of the police.
George Floyd is not the only one in recent times.
There's also Breonna Taylor killed in an act of police brutality while in her own home.
Ahmaud Arbery, who was lynched while jogging while Black in his neighborhood. Most recently,
his neighborhood. Most recently, during the protests, local Black business owner David McAddy died in the protests in Louisville, much of what is in response to Breonna Taylor. These names are
not an exhaustive list of the countless Black lives that have been lost to brutality, to violence
in this country, not only at the hands of police, but the oppressive system of systemic racism that happens
and that kills Black people constantly. We could not make a list. We could not read aloud a list
of all of the names. It is unconscionable how long that list is. Black Lives Matter, as part of that,
we are committing ourselves to be better at amplifying the voices in our community and out.
And we urge you to support Black people during this time. To help you get started, in the body text of this episode,
when you click through on whatever platform you are using
or on Podbean, it will direct you to Black creators
in our fandom communities and that we encourage you
to introduce into your life and to support,
as well as resources and books so that you can learn more about
understanding racism in this country and around the world, as well as how you can be actively
anti-racist and also a way for you to take action by donating to organizations that support Black
people and protesters. Yes, but we would love to introduce you to some of our creators that we have listened to in the fandom, such as Don Willie.
You may know him from The Hypes Watch, where they do epic rereads of A Song of Ice and Fire, or from his own channel, A Don of Ice and Fire.
He also has theories, recaps of Game of Thrones episodes and Ice and Fire opinions, especially on Fire and Blood.
episodes and ice and fire opinions especially on fire and blood we'd also like you to check out alicia kingston who's a wonderful creator and just a light in this fandom and does full coverage of
the hbo tv show that the books are based on as well as other fantasy and sci-fi like lock and
key and even stranger things currently alicia doing Quarren streams as well.
Chrissy of Oldstones narrates her favorite sci-fi
horror and fantasy stories on YouTube
and also posts many live streams.
There's
Quinn, who has recently
changed his channel name to be Quinn's
Ideas, formerly known as Ideas
of Ice and Fire. And
Quinn is
a brilliant mind when it comes to A Song of Ice and Fire,
has a lot of great coverage of Dune and Foundation, and has an upcoming graphic novel,
Tadia, which is the first in a series. Yes. Take a listen to I'm a Need More Wine Pod over at
morewinepod.buzzsprout.com. Christine and Jocelyn talk about everything
from Game of Thrones, wine, other pop culture,
and movies and books.
They actually just put out an episode
on trading places just days ago.
We also encourage you to check out T-Baby,
who streams her ideas and theories
about Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire
and also hosts live streams
with other creators in the community.
Yes.
You may have seen or heard of
Christina or The Sphinx on YouTube.
There are two channel links, one to her old
channel, one to her newer one.
She is a little more collaborative now, but
does have some Game of Thrones content that's great.
And I actually have seen her
recently with Tony Teflon
from Teflon TV.
Yeah.
He's been doing all things Thrones forever,
and he's also doing really fun
Jackbox quarantine streams
with a lot of the other creators
in the community.
Yeah.
And there are also creators
in the His Dark Materials community.
There's the Amber Spy cast,
and they've gone through 35 episodes now
on His Dark Materials so far,
and they are actually quite near the finish line
of the Amber Spyglass and Looming in Sight.
Critical
Hitshop is
actually able to ship from Etsy.
They make handmade video game and nerd
decor, lots of A Song of Ice and Fire and
Game of Thrones decor. They came to Ice and Fire
Con one year.
And close
to my heart is Drafter G, who is an incredible artist in in general right
but also in the song of ice and fire community who many of you might know as the illustrator
of one of the greatest strong balwas uh depictions ever and but also also he has a lot of other
great art as well
and he's always coming up with really awesome new concepts
yes, I know that Belwas
painting is your
that Belwas print is like your life though
if you haven't checked out Minaro Geek
on YouTube, they are doing an A Dance with Dragons
reread, they also cover The Expanse, Altered
Carbon.
Yes, and finally, Podcast
Winterfell. Previously, Tracy,
who was on there, had amazing coverage
during 2015 through
2017 about Game of
Thrones with Podcast Winterfell.
So check out those episodes.
Yes, and if
you are a Black creator in the community and you'd like to share your podcast, please send it over.
We would love to support it and have others support it as well.
Yeah, your podcast, your channel.
If you're an artist, we would love to share your work.
So please let us know.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of our community.
And so thank you so much for listening this week.
We'll be back.
But this week, please reach out,
support your Black friends who are hurting and listen.
Thank you very much, everyone.
Black Lives Matter.
We'll speak soon.
