Starting point is 00:00:00 ACAST powers the world's best podcasts. Here's a show that we recommend. Nature. I've got a gay rooster named Francois. Is so gay. These rams are gay. I'm studying gay animals. Does that mean I'm gay?
Starting point is 00:00:20 So why don't more people know this? I'm Owen Ever. I'm Lane Kaplan-Levinson. And this is a field guide to gay animals. A podcast about queerness in the natural world. The animal kingdom is queer and we are a part. Find a field guide to gay animals on Spotify, Apple. Or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Acast helps creators launch, grow, and monetize their podcasts. ACAST helps creators launch, grow, and monetize their podcasts everywhere. ACAST.com. It goes without saying you're listening to Goes Without Saying with Sefi and Wing. I'm Sefi. And I'm Wing. And this is quite an interesting episode, a little bit different I think. We're talking about the wellness industry, the therapy talk, the kind of spiritual stuff of the world that can sometimes be weaponized against people to assert power. It's ringing bells of Russell Brand, it's also ringing bells of potentially Jonah Hill, it's discussed. Alleg is discussed it's also heavily ringing a big bell of married at first sight which i've been watching recently and there there's some discussions to be had so this is a bit of a different one but also i've really
Starting point is 00:01:36 loved it i hope you have me too yes definitely so enjoy perfect joy perfect feels like we haven't done this in a while sorry i was just i don't know headphones that was annoying of me no i just said it feels like we haven't done this in a while but i don't know if that's necessarily true maybe a week i don't know right so i guess really normal right on schedule but in that week I feel like a lot has happened. Well, you've been wiped out. Well, nothing has happened. I have COVID, guys. Actually, technically I don't.
Starting point is 00:02:12 I just tested negative. That was my first negative test in a week. It is weird to me, though, that we just recorded that episode and we were kind of reflecting on COVID and the pandemic. Because I remember that episode went up that day. And that day you text me saying, I've lost my sense of taste and smell i thought i was just quite shocked in the episode i almost forgot that that was a symptom of it other than in that episode i sort of made a joke about it or something and then it was yeah because we were joking we were like it can take your sense
Starting point is 00:02:40 of smell but it can never take your yeah it can't take your charisma and winning smile it's just amazing but it fucked you up but i've been shocked i can't smell anything it's starting to come back now but so it's a week today that i got ill and i've been i'm bummed because you're gonna come and see me and you're not gonna be able to smell my signature scent that i know i will by then i'm sure i will i don't know if i said this to the pod but this is quite news to me oh it is go on a signature scent it's always like oh i'm a grown-up it it's the most adult thing you could have she's a grown woman yeah with a signature scent so i'm excited for you to smell it i'm excited to smell your signature scent do
Starting point is 00:03:20 you want to tell the story of your signature signature scent signature scent maybe i don't know are people curious well basically the story is i found the best scent and i'm really into it i thought it was limited edition a lack it wasn't so almost like i smelled it and i thought that's the best one i've ever smelt in my life back when i was in france with my boyfriend earlier on this year smelled it sniffing away yeah i thought that's really special but i'm not gonna get i'm not gonna wrap myself too indeed don't get attached don't get attached because yeah she's limited she's special she's not here forever i'd rather not fall like i was saying the other week i don't want to watch a series if i know it's been cancelled and get left on a cliffhanger i'm not here for that kind of torture once i'm in i'm in for
Starting point is 00:04:05 life i'm loyal babes so alack cut to my birthday my boyfriend got it for me for my birthday and it wasn't discontinued it wasn't limited edition it was just a special seller just a special number it's called if you're interested in what i smell like on a good day it's called it's diptyque papier papier or something paper basically say the little slogan though but they were taught the way that they sell it and it's so divine the way they the way they get you is that they describe it that the scent melts into your skin the way the ink melts onto paper it's so good it's so divine and honestly like i spray it once in the morning and all day oh my god is it a long laster it's long lasting and it's it's so so special like i can't explain it there's just nothing like it to me god i mean
Starting point is 00:04:58 i feel like i'm really into things in a perfume that well that's why i can never settle like i'm a libra like i don't make these kind of decisions no yeah that's a big decision i don't take this lightly a signature scent and here i'm declaring it on a podcast yeah that is scary my favorite signature scent it's something that i've always um yeah you have to hold it to me now it's almost it's a real mark of a woman it's not girly it's a womanly trait to have a signature right she's tried she's tried some options and she's and i really have but i'm really confident in this one it feels like an important thing to get it feels it's really it's a special moment i'm glad we could all witness this together i would encourage you if you
Starting point is 00:05:36 do ever smell it to just just enjoy how it how it lingers throughout the day i almost think like you're gonna smell it one way in the store and then you're gonna keep living your life and thinking she's right this does smell good god but anyway the thing is with perfumes i love perfumes like i love i love smells quite heavily and every time that i go into like a perfume shop i always come out with like a headache because i just sniff them so deep it's irresistible and i just sniff sniff sniff i'm getting the sales assistant to get more like i i really do love it that's why it's the curse of losing your sense of smell in covid it's fucked up i know i can't wait for it well it is starting to come back because i've been i'm touching with that you're testing it with my dog the smelliest thing i know trying to sniff him
Starting point is 00:06:17 as much as possible and when i that was when i realized oh my god i can't smell anything because i was nuzzling that's crazy i can't smell anything and he was nuzzling into him. That's crazy. I can't smell anything. And he usually stinks. Did you think his breath? Yeah, no, his breath isn't great, but neither is Otto's. Yeah. A dog shouldn't be, though. A healthy dog's breath shouldn't be good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:34 I think. That's just what a dog smells like. I think if your dog smells like its fucking teeth has been brushed, what the fuck are you doing to the dog? It's kind of when they talk about vaginas. I was going to say it's a vagina thing. you're doing to the dog it's kind of when they talk about vagina i was gonna say it's a vagina shouldn't smell like um kind of uh when people take those fucking tablets to make their vagina smell nice it's like never heard of a tablet oh my god people take these like pills that makes
Starting point is 00:06:56 your vagina taste apparently nice it probably tastes absolutely sickeningly bad like your vagina should taste like a vagina should smell like a vagina guys have you not seen those it's like take these the night before sort of thing and your vagina will taste like sort of blueberries or something it's basically capitalism patriarchy gone even worse even worse if that was possible all right well different topic this is an interesting one i'm i'm actually really excited for this because in my ill um state i've been thinking about this a lot well it's kind of something that i think about all the time how people manipulate right and um we're going to go into quite a particular instant quite
Starting point is 00:07:37 insidious way of manipulating and abusing people yeah not like in an instructive way for you to go on and do it in your own life but more so just exploring how not to kind of fall for this like right in the example that i've been seeing in this week um this week of tv madness that i've had i've seen a particular instance on tv which we will go into i'm sure um which is kind of the catalyst for this episode um i've been seeing kind of very innocent naive woman falling for these tricks and it makes me really sad because i just think it's so apparent to everyone on the outside watching it and just i feel so sorry for this girl well one thing i will say as well completely separate because i actually don't know i haven't had the tv bonanza that you've had i'm not up to speed with the specific scenario that you're talking about but generally one thing i will say like before we even get into the episode
Starting point is 00:08:33 and we've said it before and i'm sure it goes without saying but just to reiterate anyone can be abused anyone can be manipulated anyone like me and seph we were about to walk in the head first into a scientology thing in amsterdam we were like this sounds amazing you're like god it didn't take much warm in there i remember i think it looks really warm in there it's really warm and cozy personality test oh my god amazing it looks really warm in there looks really nice maybe we looked up and saw the sign it's like oh okay um but it really like it doesn't necessarily mean that someone is weak or vulnerable or not necessarily vulnerable but it doesn't mean that you're weak or gullible or any of these things um it means that someone has been evil no it definitely doesn't but i also
Starting point is 00:09:18 think people um prey on traits that totally like if vulnerability yeah if you kind of present in a naive way then you are a target for this thing it doesn't mean it's your fault you're in no way to blame but i think there's no coincidence that you often see these kind of dominant figures abusing people that kind of often present as naive and yeah they kind of draw those traits out but i think it's like um it's almost like it's like a prey it's perfect um storm it is it's the perfect storm but yeah 100 it is not your fault um goes out saying goes out saying but almost the thing that gets me with like abuser totally always the thing that gets me with like abuse and manipulation is almost like you really it's one of those things that how often have you been in a situation where it's playing out one way you read it as one thing and then kind of two weeks later you look back and
Starting point is 00:10:13 think hang on that conversation was a bit fucked up or like wait a minute did they really say that to me or like earlier we were kind of talking about something insane that someone said to seffy and it's like in the moment as they always do yeah they love to say crazy things to her but and i take it in this one was crazy i would love to share it but i won't um we can't no no no we can't but it was just another example maybe at a later date just one of the classic examples of me just talking in my life just saying someone asked what we were doing me and wing and i said something cool that we're doing and they just literally said the rudest thing back it was almost like oh okay thanks in my classic way or just like not even my classic way in the classic woman's way of the world i just
Starting point is 00:10:54 kind of um shat on us absorb it i just basically said yeah we're pieces of shit like just we're like clueless we're idiots yeah and then i only when i came away from it and i told my friend what this person said to me i thought yeah no that was actually really out of order like just power dynamics but it's true like when you're in the moment things things aren't always what they seem right no do you want to explain this specific situation that has kind of spurred on this because we're being super cryptic but i'm loving it what i'm sure we would have given it away in the intro oh cool okay so you know what was going on we're talking about yeah married at first sight are we though i'm i'm almost seeing it as like that's a footnote in this wider conversation well or do you want me to title
Starting point is 00:11:41 it married at first sight season here's a run through of the couples on the therapy couch. Exactly, yeah. But fill us in. I think what has spurred this on, I mean, I'm sure why it's particularly interesting at the moment, I feel like it's particularly culturally relevant at the moment with things that are going on with like Russell Brand, for example. But the idea of like... Tomato, tomato. Like, oh, let me just fucking say it.
Starting point is 00:12:04 So I've been watching married at first sight i've been ill as a dill i have been a bed bug ill as a bed bug as an oath i'm ill as an oath guys and it's been not fun it's not good so i've been watching married at first sight with my mum my whole house is a covid house at the moment we all have it other than me right now nearly good for you yeah i'm so glad um and we've been watching married at first sight and it's very interesting show for those of you that don't know but it's exactly what it says on the tin couples that don't know each other get married they've never met each other before there's one particular couple in this season and then that you they go through all this like they go on honeymoon they have like therapy sessions together it's very interesting for just like human dynamics yes it's god it is fascinating
Starting point is 00:12:49 which we love oh god i actually think it's fascinating there's a couple this year they're called brad and shona they are it's a very kind of um dominant male figure that i mean immediately team shona but immediately i don't want to and he's kind of he visually he looks like russell brand that's the kind of energy he's giving that's why it kind of that's his style icon it's a hundred it's a life icon i've never seen this man but he's covered in tattoos he's kind of got he's very tall skinny guy and he he's very good looking but he really gets into the like um wellness spiritual yogi monster for example he talks about the universe a lot he says namaste at the end of an argument oh and there was one point where he's very in his own words he's very dominant in the bedroom i don't like oh i do not like where it's going and shona and under her own
Starting point is 00:13:45 admission is very vanilla in the bedroom okay he then shares a load of stuff that they've done together in the bedroom which obviously sounds in my opinion willingly quite coercive happy about that well i mean she's supposedly consented but it's also like when she's been pretty clear about what her preferences are and yet he's very dominant, blah, blah, blah. But even him, he, sorry, sorry to interrupt, but as in him talking about what they're getting up to, is she okay with that? No, absolutely not. He got drunk and he told all the other couples what they've been doing and they were shocked.
Starting point is 00:14:19 So it doesn't sound like it was normal stuff. They didn't tell us what it was, but she was upset about it. They then get voted one of the least compatible couples by the other okay shona is upset by it because they are one of the only couples that by this point said that they love each other they're very obsessed immediately they they're very pda immediately they love each other they love each other sort of thing some may say yeah she then gets quite upset at this dinner party with everyone being like why can't everyone see how much we love each other meanwhile he's just shared all this awful like private stuff about her just horrendous stuff and he is like why do you care what everyone thinks
Starting point is 00:14:56 why do you care he's fuming he's absolutely fuming that is external validation only care about what's going on in your vessel he says this is in your vessel you don't care about this external stuff she's getting more and more upset he in the end says quite brutally he says shut up to her and she just gets shut down right very horrendous we can see what's going on very horrendous there's also discussions about the the experts as they're called kind of therapists they say things like he's like i want to allow her to do things and they're like you don't get to allow her to do things and he's like but i want to allow her like he doesn't get it he doesn't get but she's like the language you're using right he's an
Starting point is 00:15:38 and i was listening to a podcast the other day in my ill vibes state in my ill state um and it is called it's just it's literally just three people talking about married at first sight and it is called i think it's kind of something like this maths hysteria that's what it's called and immediately i saw the first the most recent episode was called weaponizing wellness and i thought i know exactly who this is about braddy boy um and i loved it i just thought that's the most perfect way of describing what it is weaponizing wellness like i think that's something we're seeing culturally so much at the moment with like especially the russell brand thing like weaponizing the spirituality thing angle the therapy language we were talking about like it
Starting point is 00:16:19 is a really insidious way to manipulate people and control people through like um this like guise of like wellness your vessel external validation the universe spirituality namaste shit which i also do love that stuff which is why it's confusing totally but in the right hands like it's i think that's completely it it's like yeah i love um i don't know like chocolate but if i give it to my dog and he dies he's not the biggest chocolate fan all of a sudden like it's like okay so it wasn't chocolate's fault probably yeah exactly um right fascinating stuff about married at first sight and the thing that always throws me with stuff like this and even like love island and like tv shows where like these really
Starting point is 00:17:00 real life or like seemingly real life dynamics are playing out in front of an audience essentially the whole world yeah an audience for their entertainment yeah but there's like real that's shown as real life and real feelings and she's really being told shut up and she's really having her sexual history exploited because they're actually having sex these couples like they're actually sleeping together it couples like they're actually sleeping together it's not like they go off and it's conversations or whatever it's like no these are like intimate experiences that we're then talking about on tv exactly so it's one thing for these things to be happening but it's almost like the added lens of the kind of like the
Starting point is 00:17:39 voyeuristic nature of us like getting pleasure from watching essentially people being abused and like the how they navigate that and watching abusers and hating abusers and all this it's just an interesting state that we're in um it's just i just find it interesting it is a little bit i saw like i got like a advert for um big brother which i know nothing about these days it's just returning it's returning i guess but there was these there were i'm assuming they're the hosts or they were like two people and it was pretty obvious they've had these two people like sit in front of the camera and read this stuff about like remember to be kind to our housemates blah blah blah yeah great nice but completely meaningless
Starting point is 00:18:20 they were like let's make this the most positive series of big brother yet no it's lovely but to be but it's also like the state of the world is so much more negative than it was even when it's a complete um kind of it's just a complete farce like that's that's totally um an oxymoron to how you have sold in this show like you've sat in the meeting room and pitched a new series of big brother yeah to play into the division and the cultural conversations that are happening now you need hatred to pay your bills what is what that show is as well like kind of ticking the box of like we told you to be kind guys but it's only having to do that as well because of i think with everything that's happened with love island being one of the most successful shows but also one of in real life ways one of the most unsuccessful shows and just has no regard for any of its contestants absolutely horrific stuff
Starting point is 00:19:09 wendy's small frosty is the ultimate summer refreshment and not because it's cool and creamy and made with fresh canadian dairy it's also refreshingly cheap just 99 cents until july 14th it's a treat for you and your wallet. ACAST powers the world's best podcasts. Here's a show that we recommend. In the early 1980s, gay men started to get sick from AIDS. Years before ACT UP, before HIV was discovered, before the history you know, there were people on the front lines of the fight against AIDS. Years before ACT UP, before HIV was discovered, before the history you know, there were people on the front lines of the fight against AIDS.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Joe Sonnabin. Michael Callen. Bobby Campbell. I'm Dane Stewart, and in the new season of my podcast, Resurrection, I tell the stories of heroes of the early AIDS movement. Like the story of a cabaret singer and a sex worker who invented safe sex and... Saved millions and millions and millions of lives. Go check out Resurrection wherever you listen to podcasts.
Starting point is 00:20:11 ACAST helps creators launch, grow and monetize their podcasts everywhere. ACAST.com I feel like they have all of these reality shows having they've got new like quotas of what they totally have to do for like mental health and things like this but i think my marriage at first sight strikes me as quite different is because the format of it has really changed over the years it didn't used to be like a group thing it used to be that you would kind of follow these individual couples and it's one of the ones where i really see them like getting drunk on the episode still i don't know anything about the production of it at all but it seems to me that people are getting quite drunk throughout these episodes and obviously
Starting point is 00:20:53 um what's it called love island there's like yeah you can't smoke on camera you can't yeah drink really i think they're literally allowed a glass or something like that yeah but this feels like one where the sort of boundaries are way down again because it seems quite like it's almost slipped through the um slip through the loops not the thing slipped through the sand of like what categorizes like um the show similar to like um even like maiden chelsea towie um love island all of these things big brother but i just find it quite yeah that's it i just find it quite an interesting show because it does feel like it's um yeah slightly different like it seems under the radar almost yeah yeah the the public response to this guy i'm assuming is bad at the moment
Starting point is 00:21:35 well very very bad like obviously it changes like the wind with these shows like there's a different episode every week you have a new favorite like some of the people that seemed like they were really struggling last week and now fucking thriving it just changes so much but he immediately came in i think it's one of those things that if you're a woman watching it you immediately get scary vibes from him like i can see how a lot maybe watching it as a man you might not know or like someone that he's not a threat wouldn't be a wouldn't find him threatening you maybe would be like oh no he's all right whatever he's just like one of those kind of guys. But I think immediately there's like red flags that you can notice straight away.
Starting point is 00:22:13 Yeah. Yeah. Even though he hasn't really done anything. Yeah. It was scary but the public opinion of him right now is horrified. Well that I think is slightly reassuring because you almost get that the added layer of it being public is the idea that like these um kind of evil people these abusers can have like huge public followings and like get a lot of love and support i think i think
Starting point is 00:22:40 men will really love him he's a real quote-unquote alpha male dominant vibe it's russell brand 2.0 genuinely but without any of the charisma like it's really quite horrendous it sounds fucked up yeah it's interesting to watch though because she they paired them because they're both kind of spiritual that's like the whole thing and but she's almost spiritual and quite like a sweet way like she does her yoga and like she loves her manifesting sort of girl just like she's one of the gals we know her she's our friend and they've put her with this guy who also one of the things that she said straight away was i fall in love really easily and at the wedding she was like i love him i just love him i love him sort of thing and immediately it's just like as we've already said a perfect storm for a fucking nightmare scary it's
Starting point is 00:23:26 very very scary and we can watch it all on channel four like how how do we how do we recognize what are the like warning signs of someone who's adopting that kind of language to fuck us over i think it's like a positioning yourself as above everyone like it's almost that feeling of one thing that they keep being like in this and i think also if you look at russell brand it's something that he's done since day one it's almost like filling um placing yourself uh under the role of like teacher or guru and everyone else is your student it's almost like but you know nothing like one of the whole like bits of that teaching of the sort of spiritual teaching shit is that you are kind of equal you are one blah blah blah so why do you act like you're so above yeah it's the perfect way to um it also really feeds into
Starting point is 00:24:19 like the kind of way that people who are really manipulative will try and isolate you from any way of like reasoning yourself out of the relationship or out of that dynamic and a lot of the time something that really helps us see the light is like speaking to people who we love and we trust and like our friends and our family who will be like that's kind of weird or like no that isn't normal like yeah no i thought it was weird when he said that as well like etc etc when you're solely dependent on what this person is telling you or they've positioned themselves as like this holier-than-thou righteous leader but it's almost like are we no more than them like they wouldn't get it or like us against the world exactly sephie's out to get you like of course she's trying to manipulate you she's trying to ruin
Starting point is 00:25:03 what you've got she's jealous which is also interesting watching that kind of happen on a global scale with russell brand i hate to say his name honestly like he is vile yeah but with his whole defense of everything that he has undeniably done um i don't even know if i can say that we're gonna get sued allegedly allegedly undeniably done um or i mean he's of women have said he's done um his defense is that not only is it like there's no one really to turn almost he can't say to every single person watching his video oh it's us against the world but he's said that it's us against the media the global agenda like the agenda of the media that they're trying to silence us it's like you've pretty much done um a large scale version of the like don't trust your family
Starting point is 00:25:56 anymore like sort of thing it's like don't trust the news anymore don't trust all of the places that you get your information from trust kind of like the alternative media i.e me on my youtube videos not even youtube anymore fucking rumble like it's so so um insidious yeah and um pervasive as well yes it's also one of them things where it becomes i think quite exhausting for people to fight back because you'll get get lots of, like, the lingo hurled at you. So, like, but why do you care about things that aren't in your vessel, for example? Yeah, in your vessel. You get so much thrown at you. And it's, I hate to say it, it's completely gaslighting.
Starting point is 00:26:38 Like, the shit that they throw at you to almost make you question yourself. It becomes so exhausting i think people just get so worn out that they are stuck in that loop of like not being able to fight back completely because also that was one of the things that they were saying in um the married at first sight podcast that i really liked they were saying that it was almost like he wasn't realizing that him getting wound up by shona getting wound up was him he wasn't in his vessel like he was hard he was really doing the exact same thing as her like wanting the external thing to agree with him but it's almost like in those moments where someone is gaslighting you
Starting point is 00:27:19 you forget that you can challenge them like you almost it's kind of what we're saying um not that this person was gaslighting me earlier or like what the thing that we were saying earlier, but it's almost like when someone shits on you, often the natural sort of reaction is to be like, yeah, I'm a piece of shit, rather than to be like, hang on a second. With Shona and Brad,
Starting point is 00:27:42 you just fucking do the same thing. It's hard to even identify that someone's shitting on you i think yeah because you feel like shit because you feel like shit anyway so it just feels and almost i think there's a level of um invalidating your own emotions or emotional response to something so like if something happens or you someone's making you feel shit to be honest like someone's doing something out of line there is an instinct i think to be like that's not out of order it's just me um i'm sensitive or yeah i'm wrong um it's really horrific yeah it's fucked up makes me annoyed lots of good
Starting point is 00:28:19 responses yeah i was just about to say what people said let me look people were talking about jonah hill which oh god i mean that's that's actually such a fucking perfect example yeah it is of like i it's my boundary it's like no it's not your fucking boundary mate what she should do i think this is an important point actually this person said i'm in therapy and i'm so scared i'm doing that without noticing and meaning like i'm meaning well but i'm scared that i'm weaponizing the therapy and i think a lot of people get into that because it's almost like it's kind of what you said earlier about like well i love that like spirituality used to like parts of it or whatever and it's like that's completely fair and it's hard you shouldn't seek
Starting point is 00:29:06 external validation or whatever he was saying all the stuff but they're using it wrong they're using it to control and like invalidate feelings and i think um oh sorry no no no no no no no no it was me um i think it's being able to understand that there is so much room to be able to live this way like you know you end up knowing the words like it's hard to not and especially when it comes to like spirituality and stuff like that like there are lots of things that you can lean into in like a really nice normal healthy way and i think it's a testament to us like over critiquing ourselves or like being almost a bit um kind of anxious about like our goodness or like maybe nervous about you know we don't want to be bad people yeah and sometimes i think we can think oh well i said i was setting a boundary with someone maybe
Starting point is 00:29:59 i was abusing her and weaponizing therapy speak to but that's inside that sort of thing i think that's when it's really important to look at the power dynamics and like they're not always evident to like the black the naked eye especially when you're in the situation like it's hard to be like who has the power here but someone which someone that has power saying to you i set a boundary here it's tricky i feel like you're often setting a boundary as a defense rather than a um it's not i don't know it's not an attack no it's not an attack it shouldn't be an attack whereas the jonah hill thing really felt like he's a famous hollywood actor and he's saying to someone i set a boundary that you can't post instagram photos like this and you can't be um a surfer or whatever you can't do the things you
Starting point is 00:30:53 love and you can't hang out with people you love it's like the difference between her then potentially setting a boundary of my boundary is you don't have a say in my instagram it's like let's it it's what you're asking of the boundary and also who is kind of encroaching in whose space yeah i think as well like oh i'm so brain dead at the moment i think i'm coming off quite brain dead no you're not no i know i think it's brain dead energy for today it's me i'm no it's not it's definitely not it's not it is let me think because i had something i think as well like learning about your emotions and your behavior through therapy can be a really liberating thing for a lot of people like it can really help you make sense of things that you're
Starting point is 00:31:39 going through and help you navigate difficult relationships or difficult situations and there's a huge difference i think in the feeling of learning something with a trained professional that is helping you feel really empowered and like um liberating you from a difficult situation or giving you a sense of peace yeah something that feels quite validating to you yeah i think using that to put other people down it comes from a totally different place of like the righteousness the holier than thou vibe it comes from a place of control rather than a place of like trying to live your life peacefully well also it's like the last thing if you i don't know i don't know that much about kind of spiritual teachings buddhism whatever stuff but i think i know enough to know that the core basis of it if you have studied this
Starting point is 00:32:31 if you kind of listen to andy from headspace talking living in good faith generally yeah you know that the teachings are not about controlling other people no it's just not far from so it's convenient kind of that these kind of figures that we've spoken about potentially the jonah hills the russell brands the brad from married at first sights of the world they're using their so-called like spiritual enlightenment to tell women and other people how to think and what to do and kind of get angry at them that they're very not at the same level as them it's like that doesn't really feel like that's in line with the things that you would learn in these like spiritual things or also therapy when has a therapist ever ever ever told you that you have any control over other people's actions and behavior you literally don't i keep getting lost
Starting point is 00:33:27 in my no you don't it's so annoying i keep having i keep having something and then it flies away i feel like i'm blabbering on about bullshit no you're not you're perfect you're perfect you're a perfect storm honestly the perfect storm let me think because i had something sorry it's like well every i'm speaking bullet points it's like and this i had something and this i like the bullet points keep them coming um i think it's because i keep getting distracted because you keep saying things and it makes me think about arsehole people in real life yeah yeah no i think this topic without thinking of real people it's really hard there's one person in
Starting point is 00:34:05 particular quite haunting yeah yeah yeah i know who it is he's haunting my thoughts right now it's hard to not say that but with an encrypted tongue um i don't know if there's anything more to add just that it's really really painful and like really insidious and makes you it can really if you're in the wrong hands it makes you question your whole existence as a human being when you have misplaced faith in the hands of someone who is living evilly um yeah i can't remember what i was gonna say before but it probably wasn't that good no it probably was do you want to take the time to get it or can you bothered let's take the time let's take the time i can see right let me see yeah i guess that's it just go on go on give it a moment or two thing all i want to say is that this person
Starting point is 00:34:55 is a piece of shit and i like let me use this platform for good and just let you all know there's someone out there who's so evil who sucks ass sucks but it's not my it's not my responsibility no well it's been quite a weird episode i think it has but i'm i'm not mad at it no me neither me neither it's been really on my mind actually like i think with all the fucking russell brown shit going on it's just so horrid to watch actually it's just fucking horrid i think as well like no this is no yeah no go on well i was just gonna say as i get older i realize that there are so many assholes in the world but i don't want to end on that note no we don't have to end on it but it's true that's actually true but i also think it does make me realize there are so many assholes but there are
Starting point is 00:35:42 also so many people that are angry about the assholes yeah but there are so many arseholes, but there are also so many people that are angry about the arseholes. Yeah. But there are so many... I hope so. I don't know. There are so many good people that actually give a shit as well. Yeah. So I think it's even more important to be united than ever. Well, we found them all.
Starting point is 00:35:57 Yeah, we did. They're all here. All right. Cool. If you don't hear from us... Assume the worst. Assume the worst. Wendy's Small Frosty is the ultimate summer refreshment. And not because it's cool and creamy and made with fresh Canadian dairy.
Starting point is 00:36:31 It's also refreshingly cheap. Just 99 cents until July 14th. It's a treat for you and your wallet.
