Starting point is 00:00:00 A list-nuff production. Activate your internet. Cause the Haymission and the Podcast starts in three, two. Sorry, still buffering. One. A hoi to me bow. Haynish. Madeepa's in the business. Thank you. One! Ahoi to me bow, hein? The deepest in the business, thank you.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Ahoi to me, stroke, in Jack. Oh, okay, something in the water. Something in the business. You know where we're? I think we're in a row boat. You're right. I'll be the cocks today, guys. I'll be the steer this is super in trouble.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Heavy cocks. We might be doing a wheelie the whole way up. We're at the G1000. Of course, Endo. I'm a hoi also to Grace who used the very easy-to-use system at hamishnearie.com to tell us what she's been up to. Hoi number one, two and six. Today, I'm currently studying for my music test at school.
Starting point is 00:01:03 I can't feel music like you, hey, Mish, so it's gonna be a little bit more difficult. But I'm not sure I'll get to that, because now I've gotta try and upload this audio file. Wish me luck. Well, probably Mozart was one of her teachers. Did you want to teach? You had to upload that?
Starting point is 00:01:19 I'm, take yourself today. Okay, there's another person coming to the studio and for good reason, and this is an amazing special skill. Yes. The young man joins us today's names Oli how I sir. Oh, I was. Oh, wait. Oli, what are we? Should I roll over? Yes. Oh, I'm sorry. Okay. For reasons you'll find it up soon. Oli, when what what we loved about your email, it was succinct,
Starting point is 00:01:42 it was punchy, it was catchy, and we were hooked. I just know corn, I think I said that. That's it, yeah. It's his. Magician at Microw popcorn. I can microwave any bag with zero to five kernels left in the bag, any brand, I just know corn. Now, edible.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Do you have any reason to just know corn even the corn game, or you just ate a lot of popcorn? Just ate a lot of popcorn. I think it kind of started, me and my girlfriend, and we're into maxi bonds. And I think it was just a bit too many. And so we kind of had the move to popcorn, but a bit healthier alternative.
Starting point is 00:02:13 I can't really, but... LAUGHTER I was wondering how maxi bonds was a gateway drug to popcorn. And I've managed to microwave maxi bonds. LAUGHTER I mean, yeah, maybe the lightly salted stuff. Yeah, sure. I thought you, so you're eating too many Maximum bonds,
Starting point is 00:02:28 that was the situation. It was just a routine. I got it. You know, it's brand of the survey. Got it too much. Oh, yeah. And I look, I'll be honest with you, Maximum bond is my last group of choice.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Really? So you talk into a man here that understands the new waffle one. Mm-hmm. Pretty good. Magnum almond for me. Oh, of course. Oh, yes, I'm joining you in that too. I've got nothing against the Magn waffle one. Mm-hmm. Pretty good. Magnum almond for me. Oh, of course. Oh, yes, I'm joining that too.
Starting point is 00:02:46 I've got my big instant Magnum almond. But, um, so a little bit of a lost touch ice cream. Yeah. Well, the common man, the Rick and Morty Maxi bonus. Yeah, it's just... It's no good that one. You don't like the pepma one? I'm not a meat man.
Starting point is 00:02:59 So... Okay. Well, we're not here to do this. Maximum or minimum flavor of the bonds. Ollie, he is what's going to happen. You even bought your own microwave in? I did, yeah. Yeah, that was so far.
Starting point is 00:03:16 That was important because obviously different microwaves, different wattage, we can assure you it's regular amount of power electricity running to this building. You want to see 40 volts up to speed. We've got a lot of corners around here, but we have decided to run it at 240 volts. So you are going to get the right amount of wattage out of the described my client. Yeah, and possibly an excuse for that. Have you ever traveled with the micro to another ground? No, although it did come from originally an ex-girlfriend's place, so it's made its way
Starting point is 00:03:48 to mine hasn't gone back. Were you the owner of the ex-girlfriend in the owner of this microwave? Ex-girlfriend was the owner. Right. How did you, how did you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you,
Starting point is 00:04:02 you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, she doesn't know yet. Oh, okay. Sorry. So you broke up. That's the kind of thing that you nixed for my crave. Oh no, she bought it over and then why? It was after the break up.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Oh, because I just moved into my face and I didn't have a microwave. Oh, so she went all out your way. And she said, I got a spare one at home. Right. So she break up with you? No. So I broke up with her.
Starting point is 00:04:24 It looks a little bit pre-matter to get a great microwave. So she, so you broke out with her, but she still had it, you probably know her heart and gave you a microwave. No, I think the order of event is, I'm, I'm, I'm into a new flat. The girlfriend you're seeing at the time goes, hey, have one of my spare microwaves. Yeah. She brings it over while they're still going out. Hurry, please. Client it in. Holy goes, my god, I've never had such a good microwave. Things are on the rocks anyway. Hey, you're out. Come with my microwave back. No way. We're broken up. Is that what happened on it?
Starting point is 00:04:52 It was very a clinics game. Yeah. Okay, okay, okay. Take my heart for a microwave. If G, this microwave could have pulled some babe. I need to get rid of... I should be single with this microwave. Okay, okay. So that's how you've got the microwave. I think to get rid of I should be single with this my choice.
Starting point is 00:05:05 No, okay. So that's how you've got the microwave. It is very, very smart bringing you bringing your stuff here. It's sort of, you know, if if if if David Warners going to play cricket in India, he doesn't go, Hey, if you got bats, he brings these on that. And that's who you are here. You the skill level that you're showcasing is really elite. Like we were a big microwave popcorn family at our house.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Hot Poppins, is it's known? Poppins is, they've brand, obviously. Yep, it's up. So, you know, Sunday afternoon, if there's a movie on for the kids, Hot Poppins, Hot Poppins goes up the chair. And how many, it's tough. I'm usually in charge of Hot Poppins cooking,
Starting point is 00:05:42 and I go off sound, but you over cook it and it gets burnt and our microwave burns are pretty quickly. Yeah, well, I suppose I don't know what you do to prepare you actual bags because the everyday person would pop your chakam straight in Yeah, my wood which is a common man mistake Yeah, I suppose that's that's my point of difference And I'm hoping today that'll prove well, okay, well, what's your strategy? Can you tell us? Well, there's a couple of different ones, for a couple of different brands. One thing I'm a little bit startled by is the movie
Starting point is 00:06:12 to I'm Brand. Movie time, Paul, called MicroPock. Never seen it before. I've seen it before, but just wouldn't it, when I mentioned to Carly that I'm peak any, I was anti-spain the home brand. So movie time is a bit, is that too high class in the, because I just always go pop them.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Yeah, I don't know where that, I don't even know where this sits, but that'll be interesting, but basically I prepare different bags, differently. Okay, so there's a bit of a mesh, a bit of a mesh, and a boat structure, a bit of folding involved. There's a few different ways to do it. Because am I right in saying inside a bag, if you peek inside the magic when you get
Starting point is 00:06:46 micro popcorn, it's basically just butter or oil in there that's sort of like hard. And the corn lives in there. And as you microwave it, that butter and oil will get so hot it just doesn't pop in the corn. So that's how it works. It comes with only like hard and some of it more oil or butter. Yeah. Okay. So will you open the bag fully? No, no, no, no, no, open the bag, but we'll unfold it, because it's sort of in three parts. Sorry, I'm following you now.
Starting point is 00:07:12 So a bag kind of folded and you'll fold them in different directions and kind of cushion them and squish them in different ways. Give them massage, yeah. To match and free up the kernels. Okay. Because is that where the burning comes from? There's just they just stuck on the bottom or? I think so.
Starting point is 00:07:27 That's your theory. Yeah, that's the theory. So, look, it's, and some of the pops regularly, with like zero to five kernels is elite. Okay. I mean, we've never had that at our house. And like the, the cheer that would go up at home, if it was a kernel, the spag would be,
Starting point is 00:07:43 it's like any hole in one it got for like, it's unbelievable. Wow. Okay, so I'm gonna go for, like it's unbelievable. Wow. Okay, so I'm gonna prepare, I propose this. We give you the three bags, you head out there, and you prepare them in any way you want. We're not gonna see that aspect,
Starting point is 00:07:55 we're not gonna wait around for it. You'll then hand the bags to Radio Mike, podcast Mike. Yep. He will do the count in a different area. And we don't get to do a live-curnal count. Well, is that gonna take a long time? How about this? You hand them to Mike.
Starting point is 00:08:12 You hand them to Mike. I shouldn't take a long time because you're only looking for five. Yeah, five counts. Here's what we do. Mike opens up the bag. He scoops at all the cooks popcorn. He leaves a layer of three to four pieces at the bottom.
Starting point is 00:08:22 So we don't know yet. Yeah, I'll be like this. I'll be like, okay, okay. We don't know how many kernels are in there. We'll then be able to tip it into a bowl and the kernel count will be very, very easy. Right, because the kernels sing to the bottom. Okay. Just so people at home know, people listening,
Starting point is 00:08:34 wherever they may be, we're gonna have podcast mics, stick to Ollie like absolute super glue outside. There was a theory bandied around, not that you would ever do this whole, you can slightly open the, because there's a little slit in around nothing you would ever do this whole. You can slightly open the, because there's a little slit in each bag, but it's a steam out. You could tip it upside down, shake some kernels out. You never do it. I'm just saying all these offended at the thought of the issue. I mean, that's a win-stitch. I just want people at home going, that's how I'd
Starting point is 00:08:58 cheat to go. Mike's going to be on him like, absolute superglue. It's not going to be other happen. There's one more thing I'd like to flag. The definition of a pop. Yes. I will allow any split in the kernel. Any split in the kernel because I eat those ones. Okay. So my girlfriend does. Yeah. I'm happy to eat those ones. I enjoy them. Well, Jack, let's not get into a hole. What's your favorite Mexican coffee? Oh, but there are. There are certainly preferences available to be had there as well. So any, so the other thing is the burning tooth. Like we're gonna be harsh on the burn. Cause he can't,
Starting point is 00:09:33 He's nervous about that. He can't burn him. And a burn is a black piece, like any blackening on the piece. Sure. Okay. Well, it sounds like a nervous shore. Yeah, you had a reservation there. Anything else you want to ask us?
Starting point is 00:09:45 Well, you know what, it's fine. It actually is fine. Okay, because that, I mean, otherwise you could just micro these for 10 minutes. Of course, yeah, yeah. Burn this shit. Like absolutely insane. And then that may have been...
Starting point is 00:09:58 Was that your tactic? No, was it? You tell it to be a like a boss. Ah! Ah! Ah! We're gonna go eat this in the afternoon. We're gonna have to be a Michael Boss. It's why he's insisting on bringing on his ex-girlfriend's old bike away.
Starting point is 00:10:13 All right, here we go. How long is it gonna take? Two hours. On a high. Oh no. We'll explain this to us all, we'll explain. No, I mean, it's definitely all edible, all edible, but there's definitely a few crispy ones.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Okay, I'll give you that. I'll give you all edible. I still want to close that loop hole out to just like, literally, you get for 10 minutes. All right, Jack, let's jump strip it. I'll live, I'll live, he's the best he'll have no kernels left. I'll live, I'll live, no matter the brand. I'll eat our man in a bike, grow, wave. He will happily pop any corn.
Starting point is 00:10:56 Does he know how my grow wave? He doesn't matter because he's body's body, you know. I'll live, I'll live, he knows the range and the rules of the game. Go and pop the more you can leave about for Oliver! Good luck mate. That's great. You know, we'll see you in a bit. Good luck. I mean, actually, sorry, can you just jump back on my mark for a sec?
Starting point is 00:11:16 Can you just quickly tell us the brands you've popping? Of the three. Yep, we've got a poppin. Yep. We've got the Colesheim brand and we've got movie time straight away you'll loose you've moved straight away. Can you give us the Gut feel times for each of them time wise. Yep, three Also depends on what goes first but I'm gonna go three 20 also your microwave call microwave All cuz the first bag takes a bit longer far out is good going on three 20 for the poppin and
Starting point is 00:11:46 three because the first bag takes a bit longer. Far out, he's good. Big on on. 320 for the poppin' and 310. Which one was that? Home brand calls. Home brand calls and then I'll get. Yeah, time. Maybe it's time. This is gonna spook me a bit, probably 335. Okay, okay. And he's gonna do it in that order, do you think?
Starting point is 00:12:01 I think so. Did I have to say? I did. I did. LAUGHTER Oh wow. You're gonna do it in that order, do you think? I think so. Did you like my head? Yeah. LAUGHTER Oh wow, he leaves the studio. Who would have thought a Maxi Bonnidiction would lead to this? Ollie is back in.
Starting point is 00:12:18 Great. Oh, you have the air of a man that's not too nervous. How did it go out there. It went well. I felt like the microwave was on my side. Mm-hmm. No. The trail.
Starting point is 00:12:33 The trail's you want to break up, so you know, you know, believes in you. You're definitely on your side. Yeah, good. What was you, we discussed the system, but how did you know you were throwing out those times to us? Did you stick with those? Or it was a more detailed added as you put the different bags in the microwave?
Starting point is 00:12:50 No, I pretty much stuck with what I said out. So I did stick with those times. The only bag that did throw me, which came out a little earlier, was the movie time one. Right. Now, you proposed to put that in for 305. Are you going off pop frequency that you do pull it out early? Pop frequency, the butter, the bag. Okay. And then do you know I'm all of the heart? How do you know the times per brand? Well, I had a little chate-chate we didn't actually use. Oh, what are you got? You got something written on your sleeve. Yeah, so I just had the median times
Starting point is 00:13:29 and the preparation just in abbreviation. There's nothing to say that he couldn't have a cheat sheet. That's fine, fine. If you want to bring in, you know, you notes. Yeah, yeah. I mean, no one's kicking a surgeon out of long surgeon because he needs a quick peek at what's the next bit. Ooh, doesn't know what off my heart.
Starting point is 00:13:47 What bag were you the most confident with? Poppins. Let's bring Poppins in. Hame, you can do the kernel count for Poppins. Here we go. 320 was how much you put Poppins in. I assume you're going at high or do you run at medium or? There's only one setting on my microwave, so.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Right, do you have any, how many have any, what, what's it is? Didn't tell me. Okay, this is exciting. Okay, poppins. First of all, cook quality. Great, thank you. That's totally edible. It's probably, there are some that are on the dark side, but you're going to get that. We're going to have a problem here.
Starting point is 00:14:21 Okay, sorry. You just get it started. Okay, okay. Okay, okay. I just get us that. Okay, let's get to the pan. Okay, I'm removing the books, pieces of popcorn now from the, and look, here's the interesting part where we go back to the technical, where you'll remember, we said,
Starting point is 00:14:34 if it's a cracked kernel, which means some puff has occurred, but not the full bloom of a piece of popcorn, I will still allow that, because that is edible. That counts. I eat those. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:46 So, my first inspection, I'm seeing some kernels in there, but then you look closer and you're like, they're puffed. They're cracked. You know, they're cracked. Some do have darker insides. That's an example there, and, or something, right on the limit. It's been, um, well, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:58 But there's so, so, so few of those, like, you know, I'm not having, I'm not can worry about that too much. TURNAL CURNAL TURNAL CURNAL This is like panning for gold. Um, okay, so you can see the kernels at the bottom, but... Oh, but... How many kernels of them? One, two, three, four.
Starting point is 00:15:17 So there's eight. This is puffed. So this, if you can eat that. Did we talk about the one coin coin or eight coin coin? Stereo and J. Stereo. If you have to look that hard to make it out, I just...
Starting point is 00:15:38 It's not split. I think they're six. I think they're six. Which is interesting because my last two bags of poppins at home were exactly six. So you reckon poppins is putting six unpopables in every bag. So the brand name should be nearly poppins. We burn that open. Six. That's so good though.
Starting point is 00:15:58 How about this, Richard? It's good. I mean, I don't know. I mean, that is. Anyone listening, I'm like six kernels. Are you kidding me? Like that is. That is. I mean, I like six kernels. Are you kidding me? Like, that is. That is. I mean, I know I feel like I'm coming to a sport
Starting point is 00:16:08 that I have no idea about and then going, okay, that's pretty good. All right, tell me through that, that's a fail. He needs two from two. Oh, I mean, yeah. We did say zero to five, but. Oh, he's a little shocked at that. Can I propose something?
Starting point is 00:16:21 10%. That's not changing the error margin. What about it gets 15 all up? 15 kernels across the three. So if this one comes in at a few under, he doesn't think we're going. That's all right. I got the home brand.
Starting point is 00:16:35 Ando, I'm going to get rid of the rest of the ones that have puffed. Now I'll get them down to Colonel area. TURNAL CAUGHT Counting one that's not puffed, two that's not no split, three or no split. Old cast an iron this to, I'll make sure you're not getting any unfair nose blitz.
Starting point is 00:17:06 That? I mean, I don't, I think you're a bit more generous than I am. No, that's a nose split. Six, series two fails. I could keep going, I think there's a lot more in there. How many? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, seven, eighteen. Eighteen.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Five. What happened there, all? 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18. 18. What happened there, all? This is what we called, it was just a real tough butter in the home brand, so I think. And being temperature tricky. The bag burned. And being I had Mike next to me.
Starting point is 00:17:38 So that's a difficulty with micropop conando. That's exactly what can happen. You're trying to play a clean sheet. You're trying to play, which is just mythical. You're trying to play a clean sheet, you're trying to play which is just mythical, you're trying to get a zero kernel bag. Yeah. And you've got all this corn that's been popped with this delicious fresh corn, popcorn ready to be eaten.
Starting point is 00:17:54 And it's really difficult, isn't it? You're being forced to continue to nuke it. You want to get that out, but then... But you have to nuke through the cooked corn, cooked popcorn to get those kernels. And that's the internal game. How much am I willing to overcook this to get those last few kernels? And that's the, that's the dance of microwave popcorn. So you can see you're even at the bag burning stage, you still got 18 that are unpopped in there.
Starting point is 00:18:18 It's tough. It's a bloody tough game. Tough game. Can we do one final kernel count for honor? Because I know that, I know you don't want to end it, but the movie time popcorn. Bring it on. Let's just have a look. The movie time popcorn was a bag, but I had never attempted before. Let's see how he fed.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Hey, my hand, oh Jesus. What is it? That's the kernel soup. He's, he's kernel soup. He's not even, yeah thanks Jack not even... Yeah, thanks, Jack. Oh my god, Jack, we don't have the time, mate. We're a whole episode. I think there's more kernels than actual popcorn, I think.
Starting point is 00:18:55 It'd be like, you know, be like counting a federal version. So much kernels in here. What the hell happened, Ollie? This one... It was a disaster that last one. I've never seen it before and yeah, probably cracked under pressure. Pity the journals didn't. Yeah, exactly. To see Six Colonel Poppins was really impressive. That is a brand-aid commonly at home. I've never got it down to six. As a personal message to you,
Starting point is 00:19:25 this is obviously not the show's opinion. Well done, young man. But as, you know, my official role as the show co-host with Andy. Yeah, never say any, tell anyone what you do. I think this is the worst. Jim, tell anyone you can do that again. And personally, I'm really impressed by that.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Yeah. Yeah. Again, and personally, I'm really impressed by that. I'm really impressed by that. Hey, I'm something we haven't done for a while, is when we see a conversation happening in the wild, we try and write it down exactly as it happened. We've stood to this a lot actually about 10 years ago, but it started in America when we did the, we were in New York for one of our TV shows in Subway
Starting point is 00:20:06 and like just New York in general was just amazing for overhearing conversations. And it was important though to really write it down verbatim. That was the idea. If you've ever played Grand Theft Auto, you'll know that's the feeling. You're walking around, you hear in those conversations on the street.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Another conversation came up. I know, I feel like I've adequately written it down because it happened between Beck and I. I'm just looking at the lyrics now. It's between Beck and Andy. Yes. Which is not normally what we do. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no the kiss of the face. So here is the chance that you'll be remembered favorably in Andes, me, and these I think back with I think Beck would even accept this
Starting point is 00:20:51 accept that this is how I went down. So we're going to put it to song. Hamish, you'll be playing the role of Beck. Thank you. I'll be playing the role of me. Jack, you play the role of the narrator in a actual conversation between Beck and I. Turn into lyrics for a hit song. I should've set the scene there, actually. I should've lived with that the Jack though, but we're off camping. And I'm like narrator.
Starting point is 00:21:18 It looks like the star of the show is decided to play the music, be the main character and the right. So Jack is the narrator now, he's coming to play the music, be the main character, and... And to write. So, Jack has been eroded now, he's coming to go, that's true. Everything the main character is. Can you tell everybody that...
Starting point is 00:21:34 Actually, don't know, yeah, go on. We were camping in a tent and it's 3 a.m. in the morning. And he gone to bed at 10 p.m. Go for a jack. And he and Becca are camping and they're lying in bed and it's 3 a.m. after having gone to bed at 10 p.m. Oh, we can do that. Great work, narrator. Here we go, guys.
Starting point is 00:21:59 And here. And here are you awake. What? Yes, I am now. Great. Cause I need to go to the toilet. Okay. Thanks for letting me know. Can you come with me?
Starting point is 00:22:20 No, no, I'm scared Just go outside the tent But what if something grabs me? Will I'll keep an ear out? But it'll be too late. I'm pretty quick. No, you're not. I've got good bursts of speed, but I'm not so good over long distances.
Starting point is 00:22:56 Hmm. That trickulous. You won't be quick enough. I'm just asking for you to friggin' come with me to the toilet. It's not so hard stop. Being such a massive asshole. Well, I'm definitely not coming now after all the name calling. The two lanes silence for 30 more seconds then Andy got up and went to the toilet with Rebecca.
Starting point is 00:23:34 I added masses. I'm involved in and you might be in a similar thing with a parent, but I'm involved in a daily battle. A lot of people do this with Wordal, like a daily battle with my mum. But we play a game called Spelling B. Similar to Wordal, in fact, it can be found in the same category of the New York Times games, But this is when you have like seven letters and you're gonna use the Santa letter. Just get all the words right. Harder than word or always.
Starting point is 00:24:11 But it takes a lot longer. And then the more letters, more words you can say, you get a bonus for getting a pan-grams, you know, you use all the letters. Have to use the Santa letter, you can use them more than once. And you have to, is the amount of words you can make? Is that what it is? That's it, you get points per word, like the longer the word, can use them letters more than once. But the, and you have to, the amount of words you can make,
Starting point is 00:24:25 is that what it is? That's it, you get points per word, like the longer the word, you know, a point per letter. The tricky thing is though, you got through these ranks, like, you know, you get, like, you know, solid, good, great, amazing, whatever, up to genius is the top rank. They determine each day, like, okay, if you get 148 points today, that's the genius level.
Starting point is 00:24:42 And it's never, it's not over, is it really? It's like, you can get every single word, and then you get queen B, right? Which I didn't even know existed, right? I was playing this by myself for a while, and then I go to my mom, I think you'd like this mom, you know, you're pretty wordsy. So we start playing against each other.
Starting point is 00:24:58 And I, I don't think I got genius twice. And I, so we're like at four o'clock every day, you've got to submit your answers. Like, you've got to be your answers Like what it is. I'm sure yeah, because it because it's based off the New York Times it resets at their midnight Yeah, so you have to like get in on that day's one. I play a game called waffle with my dad Right word base one and it's resets at 11 a.m. So we don't know what time they Old Fiji and
Starting point is 00:25:27 Waffle and they never miss it. So we're doing this thing, but the problem is it goes on for, like you said, you can just sit there for, like you get the first 80% of words quickly and then that last 20% is a grant. And I was like, you're a huge advantage. A massive disadvantage. I'm busy. And well, well, you're a huge advantage. A massive disadvantage. I'm busy. And well, literally takes an hour to get to genius. And the last 40 minutes are really
Starting point is 00:25:53 unsatisfied because you are getting a word every 10 minutes right. And I'm just making up words. Yeah. Literally the first time we played mum gets queen B, sends back queen B, got every single word. That's incredible. So I was like, Oh, this isn't that fun to be honest, because I'm submitting amazing thinking I'm getting Queen B. Send back Queen B, every single word. That's incredible. So I was like, oh, this isn't that fun to be honest, because I'm submitting amazing, thinking I'm gonna crush you. Yeah, and then it just goes on. Like we've been paying for weeks now, right?
Starting point is 00:26:13 She's getting genius every day. And so I was like, this is stopped being that fun. I think incredible because if you look at the one in the age, say, sometimes I read the day before's answers, and there's a whole lot of words you wouldn't even know. No words. Well, I thought that there were heaps of words out there until I started playing. I've got a book that has more. Well, you think that, but then I started playing Wordal, and the amount of times I put in a word it says that doesn't exist. I'm like, wow, there's heaps of space, this isn't you word? Yes, yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:26:45 With 26 letters and infinite options, you really can, I mean, there's the words you're always there if you need and you were. The amount of times they're like, no, not a word. I'm not really. Yeah, the thing all, the thing all. But yeah, so that's actually what you end up doing for the last 40 minutes, for one's being it.
Starting point is 00:27:02 You just like, roll, roll ball. Oh, it is fun. I'm for that reason. Because it's American. Sometimes you can get like, I think it frustrates you because downpipe wasn't one. I'm like, you go, guys, that downpipe, they call it a downspout, things like that. Anyway, getting to the weeds on that.
Starting point is 00:27:21 So I'm like, Mum, this is, I've lost, there's no fun here for me, because I'm playing for like an hour, only to find out how less smart I am than you, because you are sitting there, you've got all day to be fair. And you're crushing me with time. It's a war of attrition. These aren't fair. We don't have, we don't have comparable militaries. We don't have the same resources to throw at this. So I invented Speed-spelling beat. So I go you got to go set your alarm for five minutes Now are obviously going to get a lot less work But now it's a five-minute game and now it's like now we go as fast as we can, okay? Now Blakey's back in. Yes, okay? Because now like now it comes under who can perform a depression?
Starting point is 00:28:02 How fast can you see him? It's a 2020 version. I mean, it's a lot more exciting for fans too. Also basic dexterity on the keypad. Yeah, I'll probably pick up 20 seconds there. Yep. Absolutely. So today, right, this morning, I've wiped the floor with it.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Before doing the podcast, say 120 to about 79, okay. She goes, oh, what do I miss? You know, what I miss? So I send her the list, like, he's a couple of my biggies. And she goes, oh, such a nonce. And then I said, hmm, I thought, she's used that word a bit. She's like, and I've used that word.
Starting point is 00:28:38 I went, not, yeah. I think I borrowed it from you and your mum. Yeah, and it's a bit of, it's like a British word, right? Like, you've been to the nonce. And what would you say nonce is? As in what, meaning or how you spell it? No, just N-O-N-C-E, I think. A nonce is an enemy.
Starting point is 00:28:53 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yep, just like a bit of a silly bit of a goose. Yeah. Do you know what it actually means? Nonce, a slang term, chiefly used in Britain for alleged or convicted sex offenders. Oh, I'm not a Nodz. I've said a whole... I've said a whole...
Starting point is 00:29:14 On the radio show in Christian being a UK national. Pull me up and said, I don't think you really know what that word meant. He is Nodz. I think I caught it. Pull McCartney and Nodz, but I didn't mean any allegations against it. It's amazing. No. So we're walking around here just calling him like, oh, your bloody Peter.
Starting point is 00:29:34 I'm like, oh, what do you think that means just a bit of a silly billy, isn't it? No. No, no, no. I had a similar reckoning when in year eight, when I called my mate a douchebag and he's mum said, Do you know what that is? Like, no. Oh.
Starting point is 00:29:53 Oh, well, you don't know about that stuff. I'm not a nuns. I don't know. I don't know about that stuff. I'm not a nuns. Hey, and we talked about this success of Sonny's ninth birthday and the cake a few weeks back. And an alert listener has said, Hamish should be on a high alert for Sonny's birthday, Sonny's tenth birthday, because he promised something for Son's 10th birthday a long long time ago. What do I say anything on this?
Starting point is 00:30:28 So I'm just giving you rather than spring it to your little boy. I'm actually going to look into bringing a lawyer in future weeks. So I'll be back. Where you've just any time I go to say something I'll write it down in front of the lawyer and he'll just shake me. I could be used against you in the future. So I'm back and had to listen to this break here. It's from 2015.
Starting point is 00:30:50 In admissible. And when I was listening to it, boy is there a lot for us all to unpack. Okay. So we get to the, the study's birthday part, but on the, on our way there. That's after he's first birthday. Yeah. Or coming into's first birthday. Yeah. Well, coming into his first birthday. Yeah, but on our way there, boy, we'll be making some detour
Starting point is 00:31:11 to us to see some monuments and castles and things like that. Okay. Jack, this is how it started. And I did something that's set up Sunni's future, a security's future. Really? He's only 16 months old, but. Pledge to never buy any more equipment for a sport that you won't take up
Starting point is 00:31:27 So you can actually afford his tuition for the rest of his life as pause there How is the crossbow situation going for you? I compound bow, ma'am sorry, I suppose a medieval defendants Compound bow compound bow have actually I've made some contacts within the archery community. That's where you're opting last time. No, it's not. I don't need any. I just had a hunch.
Starting point is 00:31:52 I just had a hunch. I'm pleased to the archery community. And I had pleased them by being pro compound bow. And I've had a lot of them, I've talked to a few of them, I'm heading out to Sydney Olympic Park to have a bit of a test for in a couple of weeks. And Jack, I said you had to do five. Five range days, which I agree,
Starting point is 00:32:14 I agree with. For buying anything. Because the common theme through the compound bow community, the archery community is, look, this ain't just a one, and this ain't to be taken lightly. This is almost, you know, this is a way of life. And that's it. That's why I'm getting into it. You know, it's a craft. I'd be interested in learning the craft and
Starting point is 00:32:30 I think it's good for the human brain to continuously learn new skills. So, um, yeah, as it stands, I've pleased the community. They've pleased me. And, um, we've pleased with each other. Please, we've each other. OK, great. It continued at chat back in 2015. Funny you should say bye. Because I was having a bit of a thing last night. I got online, I bought him something for his 10th birthday. Sort of a...
Starting point is 00:32:57 Is it something that we dipped into his inheritance? This won't go on his bill. I'm keeping a tally of all the money I've spent on nappies and food. Like that's his bill. This I'll keep off the bill. I'm keeping a tally of all the money I've spent on nappies and food. Like that's his bill. This I'll keep off the bill. This one's a gift from me. Is it like when you bought me a Bitcoin using our money,
Starting point is 00:33:12 not yours, as a group investment? And then it just went differently. How are Bitcoin's going, Jackie? Usually keep a have a look at it. Yeah, you borrow about 900 is down in the low 300. Touching the bottom. Still bouncing off the bottom of the pool. It's going straight back to the surface.
Starting point is 00:33:27 I don't think we won. Yeah, it was talking about significantly more. So yeah, it's a 600 dollar. So is this the guy's houses? How's that? How's that? How's that hand being dragged through the night for buying a Bitcoin at 900 Australian dollars?
Starting point is 00:33:41 Yes. And no, 300 at the time. And we were laughing and you said, I'm glad I didn't buy more. That's not a bit, I'm listening to it. I'm listening to the bit right, bought one. And I called it. I called it, didn't I, Jack? We're bouncing off the bottom there and that was the bottom, wasn't it? And now we're like, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if the top, like, yeah, 40,000 Australian now. Yeah, that was bouncing off the bottom of literally,
Starting point is 00:34:06 like the deepest part of the ocean. And now we're like rocketing. So that we will look a bit silly there. All I do have an go at you. That, either way, we don't have the big clinkers that look like I'm possibly have lost the plaza. Yeah, they're lost anywhere for it. But you can tell in Ando, there's Glean Andes voice.
Starting point is 00:34:20 I think there's a slight bit of going, I can only say this because I've known you for 20 years, Ando. It's, it's undetectable to most people, but I can hear it. It's the tone of a man going, we're talking about 10 years, you know, we're talking about something nine years from now. I bet we replay this and I am happy to be going on the record, laughing at Bitcoin, because I already smell that it's into the toilet and I, and this is only going to get funnier into the future
Starting point is 00:34:44 as Bitcoin becomes more and more of a joke like the Y2K virus. Yes. And it has come back to bite you. Yes, I'm glialess as we listen back to it. I am, I am, I know you're annoyed too because you're like, I was right there. I was right there. Imagine we had future information about that. We were discussing Bitcoin at $300.
Starting point is 00:35:03 It was, but any one of the L that day could have simply walked from the show and become a billionaire. And none of us chose to. Hey, it continues. Final question, here we go. I'll take one more. Could you have bought this in 10 years' time? I don't think so. Not for today's dollar price.
Starting point is 00:35:28 Everyone has an entity here, Star Wars, episode seven's coming out. Everyone's pumped about it. They've released the Legos, right, for the Star Wars coming out. Now the Millennium Falcon, which is Han Solo's ship, features in episode seven.
Starting point is 00:35:41 Yep. Can you imagine, they haven't released the Malay and Falcon for a long time in Lego form, and it became a bit of a collector's item. So now they're releasing it for this run of films. I've bought it, and it keep it on ice for him, okay? Probably not, it's because it's cardboard,
Starting point is 00:35:56 but you know, stuck it away. And he's 10th birthday, we watched the film, and I go, guess what mate, 10 years ago, actually did a little something for you. I bought it. What film bombs, what if it's like Star Wars? It's a slam dunk. No one liked episode one.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Yeah, but this is JJ Abrams, you know what he's doing. Okay, let's pause there. Let's pause there. JJ Abrams, he did know what he was doing because episode seven was good, but. This is a wonderful lesson. Oh, sorry, continue. He also directed episode, I went and checked in with Mars
Starting point is 00:36:27 because he's more into Star Wars than I am. And I said, JJ Abrams, how'd he go? Cause I thought episode seven was good. He said he did do well, episode seven, episode nine was atrocious, which was also JJ Abrams. I don't know, let's be clear here. I didn't buy sunny at JJ Abrams, post-op. But he wasn't no or care who JJ Abrams is.
Starting point is 00:36:44 What I was saying was, I'm willing to bet on the Star Wars franchise. As it turns out, I wasn't the only person willing to bet on the Star Wars franchise 10 years ago. A little company called Disney Mickey Mouse Entertainment Co. Yeah. Also bet on the Star Wars franchise, when they bought them for, at the time seemed a higher
Starting point is 00:37:03 amount, I think of about $4 billion. Yes. Now, one of the greatest investments of all time. Incredible. Me and Disney. What I'm actually learning here, Jack, are you picking up this vibe, like, oracle kind of stuff? Well, I mean, Bitcoin, Colin Smart Lego Star Wars investments.
Starting point is 00:37:21 Bitcoin, yes, Star Wars being popular. I mean, Star Wars did have a 20 base. I feel like it was just frosting. And it was people like me that were sort of like, give this thing a go. Give this a go. This could be something. Let's go back to this final grab. It's a slam dunk.
Starting point is 00:37:41 Can you imagine if you watched Star Wars, the episode, like the first one, the original Star Wars, and then your parents went, hey, back in 1979 when this came out, we actually bought you some Lego from it. You'd lose your mind. There's a 10-year-old. But incredible. In 10 years' time, like maybe the movies aren't going to be the same. Like, Sunny might be laughing at the fact that you're still watching these, you know, 2D films. You will love it. You will love it. And I put yourself in a 10-year-old's shoes
Starting point is 00:38:06 and goes, oh my god, this classic film. My parents bought me some collectors edition, start Wars Lego. Looks like dads have a little bit of a play with it, but he's disbanded it, and he's put it all back in the box. And now I get to have it as a 10-year-old. That is better than any inheritance that you'd ever want. Will it be unopened?
Starting point is 00:38:27 It will be in mint condition. When he receives it. Hey, final question for you. Do you have any idea where it is? I actually do. Well done. I actually do. And not only that, but I've added to it over the years.
Starting point is 00:38:43 Lou is on. This is also pre-leggo masters. So unique, weird way. This is me going, I mean, shamefully at the very start, the very first grab you played, I used a blasphemous word. Yes, I heard that. Legos. Ooh, you do no say that.
Starting point is 00:39:00 I've learned my lesson there, I should have even just said it there and I technically am in breach of contract. That is not how you refer to the world's favourite brick. It is always Lego. He bricks of Lego. But what I then realized, so at the time that was the collector's edition of Millennium Falcon, and then once I became friends with Brickman from Lego Masters, and I told him about this plan because I still have it. I still have it stored away. He was like, I know, you've got to get the, you got to get the status draw as well. It's awesome when it came out. He hooked me up with the status row. So it's actually, there's two of them. And the reason I was like, let's say that to his 10 is because we've built the small Millennium Falcon a couple years ago.
Starting point is 00:39:41 And that's like, that's also awesome. It's not, you know, that's like rad. The big Lego builds, it will take a month. Like it will take a month. It's like a full dining room table build. And I've felt myself over the years get excited. Like there's one Christmas where we were like straight like what do we get sunny for Christmas? And I, there was a bit of me going,
Starting point is 00:40:02 do you just, I mean, I've got that, my wife and Falcon, do we go away? Oh, you with, you need me. And they nearly broke the glass, but I didn't, and I'm really glad I didn't, because it's just no way a kid younger than 10 is gonna focus long enough to do it. And then it's a good family, it's good mates project too.
Starting point is 00:40:19 Like just rolling for a month. I've actually got an and a. And has it gone up in value? It would have. It would have. It would have. You can still buy them. You can still buy them. I thought there would be unbiable,
Starting point is 00:40:29 but yeah, 10 years actually wasn't long enough for it to become like worth thousand or thousands of dollars. And they've really rejazzed the franchise. And Disney won a little bit of that money that you get from it. Yeah, they can cut off the supply. They have Lego. Smartly, have kept them commercially available.
Starting point is 00:40:47 However, little was I to know that in the intervening 10 years from back then, where Lego was a forgotten toy, there would be a hit television show that brought it right back into relevance in one man's single handedly put Lego in. Thanks for listening. The Hamish Nandy podcast will return next week. Catch up or contribute at hamishanandie.com.
