Three neurosurgeons, two scientists, one movement disorders coordinator, 58 answered questions, two focused ultrasound procedures, one specially developed helmet, Welcome on, and it is the final hour, sponsored by Regency Furniture. Affordable never looks so good. Jack Fritz hanging out with you on this Friday night as we react to a beatdown, an absolute beatdown at Citizens Bank Park tonight as the Matson, I'm sure a lot of their fans,
Starting point is 00:01:24 came down and they smoked the Phils tonight. There's no ifs, fans or buts about it. They came down here, obviously they are fighting for the division and a playoff spot, Phils, more just trying to hold on to the division. The Mets just looked like the more desperate team tonight. They looked like they needed it, they wanted it more, and you know that's disappointing when the Phillies have a chance to really separate themselves and ease
Starting point is 00:01:51 any fear that there's going to be a reverse of 2007. So a disappointing night down at CBP. 215-592-9494 is how you get an in-the-game wrap-up sponsored by Crevitz, providing CNC machine cleaning, waste, coolant removal, and scrap metal systems designed for efficiency and lights out I'm sure you ducked out a little bit early. I'm sure it was not the most fun game to be at given that this is over relatively early. You probably held out hope and they did not deliver for you. But if you're stuck in traffic, we'd love to hear from you. Or if you sat like me and watched all nine innings on your couch, maybe talk yourself
Starting point is 00:02:37 into a little bit of a comeback there on the ninth with the Brennan March Home Run and whatnot, we'd love to hear from you as well. 215-592-9494. But the biggest takeaways of the game brought to you by Morgan and Morgan America's largest injury law firm. And the biggest takeaway is obviously Aaron Nola. We are heading into the stretch run here.
Starting point is 00:02:58 He probably has two starts left before the postseason. ERA in September last year, 5.47. We know this has been something that he has dealt with over his, I mean, really his career as a Philly is struggling down the stretch run. It's hard to get too worked up about it because it's like he's been pretty good in the postseason the last two years.
Starting point is 00:03:20 He'll be really, really good and then up the one bad start. I mean, like I don't know how many more times we have to do the NOLA thing Like tonight was not that shocking I think the biggest difference between the NOLA that we saw the last two starts and and Really the NOLA we've seen for a majority of the season is that the NOLA that we've seen for a majority of the season has Done a really good job of not allowing the snowball inning. You know, not allowing... He'll allow a solo home run, but that's it. He allowed two solo home runs, and that's it.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Last two starts in particular, it's been not being able to get out of innings. Walking batters, you know? Tonight, he ended up getting out of the first couple of innings but he threw like 23 pitches in the first inning like that can come back to bite you especially when the offense is not really doing their thing and obviously we'll get to them here in a second but like the the biggest problem with Noah at least tonight is is he could not just get the pitch in the big spot to get out of it.
Starting point is 00:04:26 And Nola at the beginning of this year was doing that. He was getting out of the big spots. He was not letting it snowball. He was limiting damage. And that just has not been him these last two starts. Is it concerning? Sure. But I think that we've gotten to a point with Nola where most of his starts are coin flips. They could be great. He he's clearly a valuable pitcher. He's adorable pitcher
Starting point is 00:04:50 He takes down a ton of innings, but I think you're lying to yourself if you if you totally trust him in a big spot I mean, it's it's pretty much as simple as that. We have a huge sample size on Aaron Nola we watch all we all watch Aaron Nola we we we know what to kind of expect at this point and You hope you pray you almost you know watches starts with your hands over your eyes Hoping tonight's not the night that it blows up. Well tonight it blew up in Miami It wasn't exactly a bunch of home runs or two home runs or big, you know Two three run home runs in the same inning It was more death by a thousand paper cuts and some long balls in there.
Starting point is 00:05:28 But still, it's an uneasy feeling heading into the postseason where your number two is struggling. Now he has some time here to right the ship. They do have a decision if they want to make it a decision to make Chris Ange as the number two starter, especially if they have a home series by being the one or two seed. Chris Anshas's ERA is 2.11 at home. He is a different pitcher at home. It's five on the road.
Starting point is 00:05:55 I mean, it's going to be a discussion point. And I know that for $172 million, or 172 million reasons it's probably gonna be Aaron noble But I think it's something that has to be considered and you kind of trust Noles in a in a road start in a game three It's I don't think they're gonna do it But I do I think it's something that has to be talked about because I think at this point If you had to bet your life who gives you a better chance to win a game two of a playoff series at citizens bank park I'd probably go Chris Sanchez two one five five nine two 94 94 to get if you have any thoughts on Aaron Noah
Starting point is 00:06:34 second biggest takeaway tonight is if you're if you're pinning this whole loss on Noah like you kind of this in the point obviously the The six runs in the in the fifth not great. But at the same time, the offense is just completely being let off the hook. They could have done something early to where it's not all in there at all at that point. They had innings to get jobs done. They had some innings there with runners scoring position where they could not get the job done. Being mad at Nola tonight, I get it that's going to be the visceral reaction, the obvious reaction point, but the offense
Starting point is 00:07:11 is dreadful tonight. Now I know they're dealing with injuries, but at the same time like Schwab are back tonight, Real Muto back tonight, there's enough star power in that lineup to where you don't have to rely on the bottom kind of trying to carry you or get a big hit every single night. I mean stars they didn't show up tonight. So offense brutal Jose Cantana is just at this point in his career Jose Cantana is just a guy. At one point he was good.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Now it's just like he's a low end three high end four but either way the offense was just dreadful I mean just dreadful and again like starting rotation I don't think people are too concerned about heading into the postseason I think there's always gonna be some Aaron Nola anxiety bullpen is really rounded into form if there's one thing that's gonna Cause this season end in a way that we don't want it to end. It's 100% the offense and tonight It's like they didn't show up. I mean it really is it's like You pose a cantana amount of zero as over four. I know it's been good as last three starts, but like
Starting point is 00:08:24 Just not competitive. I mean there was there was a long stretches of this game tonight That just were not very competitive and that can't happen. I mean that cannot happen you come off the race series You have a day off. You have a big, you know home match up and it's a team that's trying to chase you down a team that is desperate and You lay that kind of egg offensively. And it just, in some of these marquee series, and it feels like both have been against New York teams, to come out and get bludgeoned in a game one, that stinks. And it really puts a little bit of a damper
Starting point is 00:08:55 on what they've done. Ultimately, it's not a huge deal. And as my third takeaway of the game, is like the only way this weekend's a disaster is if they get swept. If they win one of three and I understand that that sounds like a cowards way out But if they win one of three, they're still seven games up like it's fine. You just have to like keep them at bay
Starting point is 00:09:16 until until the end of the season You're asking me personally. How do I feel like I? You're asking me personally, how do I feel? The division just doesn't matter as much to me as getting the one or two seeds given how banged up this team is. I would be downright shocked if they full-on blew the division. I can't even compute it. I really can't.
Starting point is 00:09:43 I can't really compute them blowing the division What matters the most at this point is getting the one or two seed? So like I know Mets fans will be fired up tonight, you know, yeah, we're gonna chase you down. I Don't think so. The only way that this thing becomes a Conversation point again is if they get full-on swap I mean the Mets are pretty much setting up their rotation for a couple series in a row. They know what this current situation is. The Phillies have to go out and take care of business.
Starting point is 00:10:11 So again, I just, tonight stunk, the series, the Mets need it more than the Phillies. The only way is really disasters if they get swept. Offense, brutal. Nola, brutal. But we have the stopper Colby Allard on the mound tomorrow. And if there's a lock of the century, it's they win the Colby Allard start, people are like, all right, we can at least take two or three after a disaster Friday night, and
Starting point is 00:10:38 then they lose on Sunday. I mean, it's about the biggest lock of the century is winning theard started and losing with with Chris Anshul in the mound on Sunday Two one five five nine two ninety four ninety four for your reaction to this one. Let's go to Alex knees falls. What's happening Alex? Hey, Jack, how's it going man? That's going. All right. How about you? Oh I don't know if you know I'm a fellow Westchester native r graduate, Westchester Dulle League alum as well, but um... Look at us, look at us. I don't know man, flying high. Have a couple concerns. First off, I'm happy to be a part of MLB beginning. I don't know if anyone else knows, but if you get the radio, you can watch MLB app on your TV and you get four games at once like
Starting point is 00:11:25 LB Rez. I got it on right now. It's on my left. I do have a little bit of a worry the way like Yamamata looked the other night. He looked untouchable. I don't think the Dodgers are somebody that you know now is someone to think of but I think down the line you know if he's he's enough that's a big game changer and I know I mean we can say Estevez was a closer since he you know came up in the bigs at the
Starting point is 00:11:55 Rockies I'll give I'll give him that but I don't know how he'll be when the lights are bright man you know because he's in baseball with on base, like he's never been in that situation before and you know, Nola, you're right, it is a kind of a coin flip. I love him. You know, he's been here since I think what 2016 but uh, yeah. But you know, it's, it's just like the Mets did one of them. And you know, Jesse Winker, like, you know, it's it's just like the Mets did one of more than that. Yeah, you know Jesse Winker like, you know, he's a guy that I don't know if he fit in with this lineup, but he's a guy that I essentially could be like being better than Austin Hayes, you know like Well the problem there was the problem there is that they wanted a right-handed hitter to hit left-handed for sure
Starting point is 00:12:44 but you know again, it's just an impact player that kind of ignites the lineup. I'm not too concerned about tonight, but I just think long-term we just need to see the big picture. The Mets are not a team that want to play in the playoffs, simple as that. I like Allard man, you know, he's competitive, give him a shot. But we'll see what happens tomorrow. I'm heading down actually next Saturday with my dad. They have to mess up like a block party or something on the Saturday game. It's like a one o'clock brewery thing or something they're doing on a city field. So that'll be fun, but never been down there and I'm Proud to be to electric well as long as you come out with a win
Starting point is 00:13:30 I think it'll be all right It's interesting man like we talked about a lot on the station and we talked about a good amount of high hopes Again, if you're looking for a Philly centric podcast where you know just me and seltzer nerding out about the fills You know check out the high host podcast wherever you get your podcasts. But like, he mentioned Yamamoto coming back and the Dodgers, you know, being a factor here. Yeah. I mean, like, again, the NL is in such a different spot than it was last year. There's no Marlins. There's no there's no scrub team that barely gets in that you gotta worry about. I could see 1 through 6 all going to the World Series.
Starting point is 00:14:13 This is not gonna be a cakewalk. This isn't gonna be like kick your feet up, here comes a breeze to the World Series. DNL is a gauntlet. I mean, you got Dodgers, you got Padres, you got Brewers, you got Diamondbacks, you got Mets. Now, the Braves are winning tonight if they haven't already won. So like, you can still put the Braves in there.
Starting point is 00:14:41 It's a little different just because, yeah, the Braves already won. It's a little different just because yeah, the Braves already won it's a little different because You know, they're down so many players, but like You know, even if they get in they're still Worrisome, I I would fear the Mets more like this Mets team has a has definitely a vibe to them of of like You know the the hot team in October that goes on a run. But I mean, this this National League is no joke. This National League is absolutely
Starting point is 00:15:12 no joke. It's why like, you know, people ask me like, are they gonna win the World Series? Are they gonna win the World Series? It's like, I don't know. Like, I really don't know. I'm hoping with my entire, you know, being that they will win the World Series, but it's just so hard to predict right now. And ultimately it's going to come down to who's going to get the big hits in October. And the Phillies runners in the scoring position numbers recently have not been the most inspiring, I would say. Let's get to Mark and Concha Hawk.
Starting point is 00:15:44 What's happening, Mark? Mark? Hawk, and let's happen to Mark. Mark? Hey, Jack, how are you? Good, man, what's up? You know what? I am, Noah doesn't deserve to be a number two pitcher. He doesn't pitch like it. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Well, I mean, for the majority of the season he has, he's had two bad starts here. Jack, he's had a long one of their two bad starts Okay, number one if he's 12 and 8, okay. He's 12 and 8, right? sure That's not a rapid to be proud of when you bring in a hundred and seventy two mils in You're not you're not bringing up pitchers win loss on the aria In the year 2024. We're not we're not doing this, right?
Starting point is 00:16:23 In the year 2024 we're not we're not doing this right But it doesn't it doesn't matter pitchers win-loss and it's just the attitude that you know what we're the Phillies we're here We deserve the win What is that what does that mean what does that mean what does that mean I mean they What does that mean? What does that mean? What does that mean? I mean, they... The play tonight was lackluster. Okay, I agree with you. Okay, you don't... You're playing for a World Series, you're not playing for a winning division or anything like that.
Starting point is 00:16:57 And I think that... Did they lose the World Series tonight? That's not the point, right? Well, sure it is. The point is that I think they're sitting on, sometimes they just sit and they play lacklusterly and you know, it's time for them to step it up. They have stepped it up. What are you talking about? Okay, 11 to 3 is stepping it up. They played bad tonight. Yes They were 8 and 2 in their last 10 heading into tonight. I understand that Okay, but you can't be a
Starting point is 00:17:38 Should win every game they should win every game I know Everything that's not realistic. I every game I know. I'm not saying you should win every game, that's not realistic. I told, I know. But when you're throwing, like Noah, when you're throwing salami balls up there all the time, how many home runs have you given up this year? Less than last year. Well I really think, and another thing is, a lot of pitching throughout the major leagues it's really vanilla. It's really you know curveball, fastball, glider, whatever. And hitters will catch up with it. I mean back in the day you had pitchers who, I remember the Phillies in 80s.
Starting point is 00:18:22 Yeah like that's because McGraw, he had a a Squared Ball, you had a Feature Pitch. Now, and it's just, like, will pictures pretty soon get out of the box? Alright, alright, there he goes. Mark and Contra Ocken. 215-592-9494 is how you get in. Starting point is 00:20:27 All right. Welcome back. It is the final out sponsored by Regency Furniture. Affordable never looks so good. Good to see everyone handling this one well. Things are going well. Phil's lose 11-3 and our pets heads are falling off. But ultimately ultimately as long as they again put this on a PSA if everyone your group chat is melting down just remember as long as they just take one this weekend of these next two games everything's fine everything's fine they didn't lose the World Series tonight they didn't win the World Series tonight they could lose the World Series tonight. They didn't win the World Series tonight. They could lose the World Series They could win the World Series. We're all begging them to win the World Series. I'm sorry. They played bad tonight I'm sorry there and Nola
Starting point is 00:21:14 Unraveled in the fifth. I don't know what to tell you. The offense didn't show up tonight, but they've also Come off of playing Really good baseball. And guess what? They could still win the series. My Lord. All right, welcome back. Some other things that kind of stuck out tonight
Starting point is 00:21:33 and then we'll go to the phones. And really some of this has been going on for a little bit. I think there's been a consensus with a lot of fans and I think people talking about the team heading into the playoffs is like, what's this bench going to look like, right? So we all want Cody Clements. We want Cody Clements to be a part of the bench.
Starting point is 00:21:51 And when he starts, he gets overexposed and they can do this whole he's a major leaguer thing and he is. I just think it's way, way, way, way, way more in a bench role. Cody Clements I think is a really valuable bench piece to come on the bench. The biggest question is going to be that Weston Wilson or Austin Hayes thing. And I'm just saying that Weston Wilson is three for his last 18 and one of those hits was a dribbler up the line. So he had a good run, he hit the cycle, but he's really cold off since then.
Starting point is 00:22:22 And Austin Hayes is someone they traded for, someone they want to give a little leeway leeway to I Think I think as long as Austin Hayes comes back and looks Like he hasn't lost too much weight. So and what I mean by that is that Rob Thompson said the other day like he's dealing with a kidney infection He's lost a good amount of weight and lost some strength So he has to build that kind of stuff back up as long as he doesn't look like a completely Like watered down player, I guess I think it's gonna be Austin Hayes
Starting point is 00:22:52 They gave Weston Wilson some runway, but he hasn't really taken it and run with it He had a good two weeks when he first came up and was hitting off lefties, but he's really cool off So that's one to monitor Nick Castellanos home run the other night but one for his last 14 I hope we're not heading into one of these swoon seasons for him heading into the heading into the post season because he's been so consistent for a long time and on an injury front here when Bryce has swung and missed in the last two to three weeks, he feels like he's always wincing in pain after. At least tonight, at least tonight, he was not wincing in pain after some of the swings
Starting point is 00:23:35 and misses. He had the double, which was good, still no home runs, but the fact that he wasn't in serious pain after swinging and missing, I actually think is a positive. That gives me hope that maybe there's a way out of this thing to where he had a day off yesterday that maybe got him moving back in the right direction and we'll start to see that power come back. But I know it sounds crazy.
Starting point is 00:24:02 I know it sounds insane. But the fact that he didn't win after swings and misses tonight actually felt like a positive step forward and the final thing Rob Thompson mentioned this after the game incredibly important given where this lineup currently is given that Buddy Kennedy god bless him was starting at third base tonight but Alec Bohm is probably going to start a rehab assignment or I guess playing rehab games tonight tomorrow or sorry tomorrow and Sunday And then be activated on Monday
Starting point is 00:24:33 So good sign there obviously in the Alec Bohm back and he got to get him back in enough time to get his rhythm Heading into October because again, he's in that four spot. They're not moving there I don't think that they would put Cassian's in there Cassiano's is only batting about 165 since taking over in the in the four spot, you know or four spot on the year So that's bomb spot. We know how important that spot is They need to get him back and get him some reps at least I don't know like like 10 games, 10 to 15 games, so that heading into October, like he's in a, he has his timing down and is in
Starting point is 00:25:12 a good spot. But that was good to see. And, and, and Amundou Soso seems like he is close to being on his way back as well. But either way, getting Bohm back into this lineup would, would really, really help. Let's go to Steve on a cell. What's happening, Steve? Hey, how are you? Good, man. What's going on? I got a question for you. Does Aaron Nolas stink? No. Alright, so he's probably good for four innings, right? Five innings. And then that Aaron Nolas innings is just right around the corner every single time.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Well, yeah. He definitely has those one Aaron Ola innings to start that seemed to kind of throw his whole thing off Yeah, I mostly agree even though he's been better at this this year at it Yeah, and then who would I would have thought that being the son of Roger Clemens Cody Clemens would have a little more mustard on that fastball tonight, but yeah I felt like he was leaving to put some pictures are played there well i i i don't know what's on run plus four fifty so i i did appreciate it but i don't know man i i i
Starting point is 00:26:15 felt like you believe in the moment you believe too much over a plate cody clements talking about but what about what about the local of the right now you're talking about? Yeah. What else am I going to talk about? They lost 11-3. I know. I got to talk with, you know, that was the only, that was the only, like, that's what was up. It was Cody Clements tonight. We needed more from him in that ninth inning. We did. We needed him to bear down. We needed him to bear down. I mean, the truth is that they're trying to just throw it so slow that hitters don't do damage. So that's what they do.
Starting point is 00:26:46 Listen. I can't listen. Nola, he is frustrating and I get it. I just don't think we can also do the he sucks thing. He doesn't. He's frustrating. He has up and downs. I think people go too far when they talk about how durable he is and how many strikeouts
Starting point is 00:27:10 he gets and how little guys he walks. I think we go too far with that when you look at he's like fifth in pitching war since 2017 or whatever. We go too far with that stuff because the eye test doesn't back it up. Aaron Oles is a good pitcher, but he's like an ace level innings eater, if that makes sense to people out there. I've said that Gomp before, he's like the Greg Maddux of Aaron Harangs. He's a good pitcher.
Starting point is 00:27:42 He's a valuable pitcher. It's just like he has these starts and it's like, oh my God, but at the same time, he's clutched up in the last two post-seasons. He was really good last year until the game six of the Arizona series where then it's like, oh, well there's classic Nola. He kind of is what he is at this point,
Starting point is 00:28:03 but we can't put on blinders and just pretend like he sucks because he doesn't. He's a really good pitcher that has frustrating moments. The Player of the Game sponsored by South Jersey Gas Conserve helping customers and the community save energy and money. Visit South Jersey Gas.com. Jose Cantana dominant tonight, which is infuriating because There's 90 and he just you know
Starting point is 00:28:32 Mixes and matches and he's a old-school type of pitcher at the same time last three starts He only allowed a run so he is clearly clearly heating up. So Jose Cantana Congratulations vindication for 2021 or 2022 Game one out in doubt in Louis. On the other side, we will look ahead to tomorrow, plus get to the play of the game here on the final out on sports radio 94 WIBA. Her ball, it's hitting the air down the left field line. It's hooking in the corner and it is a fair ball. Hit the pole and it's a home run.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Three run shot for Francisco Alvarez and the Mets Are on the board here in the top of the fifth. It's three nothing Was begging for that one to go foul like was begging for that one to go foul But ultimately it did not and Francisco Alvarez You know took that one out the play of the game sponsored by Mike's amazing the official Mayo and muster the Phillies And what's what's not about that? was that Nola was was dominant and that's been Again, the last two starts had been frustrating. They're like three starts for that were brilliant
Starting point is 00:29:35 I mean hitting against the Astros was phenomenal So, you know we we tend to swing so far with Aaron Nola The truth is Neil will always end up somewhere in the middle but he looked so good to start that game tonight and I just What worries me about what what Nola's currently doing is that we are getting back to? some of those blow-up innings and What made him good for majority of the season again his era heading into tonight was 3.41 now there was some blow up starts there some seven earned and whatnot but for a majority of the season he's done a really
Starting point is 00:30:14 good job of not letting inning snowball and tonight he just he couldn't do it and I know that there's been well, my mentions are a hard judge of the fan base because it's just the usual meltdown city in your boys Twitter mentions. But you know, there's some criticism of Rob Thompson. It's like, dude, it's the fifth inning. Like, you can't just, you have a whole series against the Mets, you have the Brewers and then you have the Mets again. They don't want an off day. You can't just burn the bullpen when you're already down three nothing. You trust the guy to get out of it.
Starting point is 00:30:49 Ultimately it didn't. It blew up in his face. But I don't know why we can't critically think baseball more than just like, it's in front of me, bad, Thompson sucks. It just blows my mind, you know, like, just a little, little critical thinking. Don't ask for much. We'd love to see it. Welcome back. It is the final out as always sponsored by Regency Furniture affordable
Starting point is 00:31:19 never looks so good. Jack Fritz hanging out with you on this Friday night reacting strongly strongly to a phil's loss and i think it's the the the that's tonight let's try our in the northeast what's happening art a a don't you jackie what is your idea of the way for a postgame show here are
Starting point is 00:31:39 yeah i know it's a tough one tonight and european monologue the wind out of my sails It was everything almost verbatim that I was gonna open up with myself But I'm sorry about that. No Don't apologize, but um, I've been thinking about You were talking about the National League the teams that scare me the most are Arizona and the Mets and it's not even close those two teams with Arizona's firepower and
Starting point is 00:32:12 the Mets seems to be Everything well rounded from hitting since the All-Star break. They've been a different team heading and pitching Who would have teams that scare you the most, Jack? Well, the Padres scare me a lot. You know, like the Padres scare me from the standpoint of they do have some star power and when you have the starters that they have. But what scares me about the Padres is frankly, they can go Tanner Scott, Jason Adam and Robert
Starting point is 00:32:40 Suarez to close out a ball game. So having them obviously terrifies me I mean the Dodgers are the Dodgers, but they also choke but like you look at you know Otani Betts Freeman, it's pretty ridiculous the Mets scaring from strictly of like a vibes perspective You know you look at the rotation. It's not that terrifying bullpen not that terrifying But they seem to have something clicking the dime backs will scare me art until the rest of eternity frankly like what happened last year and the way Stronger I mean, I think they're next to the Padres the top-hitting team in baseball
Starting point is 00:33:21 But now you were right before you can be afraid of everybody I mean the Dodgers with that core in the middle of their lineup I'll tell you what that she's snowing back is turning into some picture he not only dominated the Phillies but he did a great job against the Dodgers tonight yeah well and if you want to even like the Brewers actually I think are more scary this year than the last couple years Because you know, they have a 20 year old that's having a 2020 season so far that's really picked it up in Jackson Cheerios, so like they had the last couple years like offensively they just haven't been there
Starting point is 00:33:55 But now they got this little this this young kid who like might kind of change their trajectory This the NL is Absolutely loaded that statement you made you can see any of these teams going to the World Series I agree with you 100% I'll let you go Jack good. Thanks art always appreciate the phone call. Yeah, I mean these teams are good man, and you know it There's no way to sugarcoat it like he can't you know Just put on the the home rise and say this team's going to go to the World Series. We all hope they do, but there are some damn... Like this team, the Phillies got to play some really good baseball and get some breaks if they're going to go to the World Series
Starting point is 00:34:34 and win this whole thing. You look at the National League, and for the first time in a while, I actually think it's tougher than the American League. I really do. You know, the American League, the Orioles have just been playing brutal baseball for a long stretch. The Yankees, now Judge finally hit a home run tonight, which is good to see. I think it was like 17 games since he hit a home run. The Guardians will never scare me. The Royals don't really scare me. The Astros, sure, 100%, they've been playing
Starting point is 00:35:04 good baseball for a long time But you look at their lineup and they're you know, this is not the this is not the 2022 Astros You know, I was watching a little bit of the game tonight They're talking about how Verlanders like fighting for a playoff roster spot now that says like how good their rotation can be but for the first time in a while the National League is is definitely The head of the American League I think all six of these teams could be in the World Series. There can be a team that missed the playoffs that could be in the World Series. That's
Starting point is 00:35:30 strong of a league this year. Tomorrow we got Luis Severino on the mound versus Colby Allard the stopper and I'm already calling it now they win the Allard start and then you know Sunday feels like a loss would love a win but if there if I know this Phillies team like I think I know this Phillies team that's my that's my call my shot moment you know the Babe Ruth moment Severino has been good you know Severino the last two starts he's been really solid starting to rack up strikeout numbers he's been really up and down for them you know like he'll either be disgusting and strike out eight over seven or will be a little bit more blow upy, but he's been a really good signing for the Mets.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Always had stuff could never stay healthy with, with the Yankees. You know, he's kind of putting it together now with the Mets, but either way, Phil's other work could out for them tomorrow. Seve will be up in the zone and you know, it's on them not totally chase that pitch. So Allard versus Severino four o'clock start tomorrow one last phone call before we hand things off to Rob Jerry Let's check in with John and Malvern. What's happening John? How you doing Jack first time caller with you appreciate you. How's it going? I appreciate you I don't want to sound antagonistic because I'm not, but I want to talk in generalities.
Starting point is 00:36:46 I'm not here to bash Nola or the manager, but listen, Jack and everybody else out there, don't dare blame the offense for these kinds of games. The Phillies live and die on pitching. If you think of the first half of this season, really what carried the Phillies was their pitching. It was much better than we all thought it was going to be with Ranger and with Sanchez and of course with Wheeler and Nola pitching really well. Since they went to London and came back, the pitching got all out of whack.
Starting point is 00:37:15 They had no more fifth starter when Turnbull got hurt and Walker couldn't do it. And a game like tonight, you can't expect the offense to score 12 runs or 10 runs or nine runs a game. You got to get well-pitched games. I think the National League is very, very competitive. There are seven really good teams vying for six spots. Schaft will walk you in there because nobody from the other, from the Central is going to get in there.
Starting point is 00:37:39 So there's six teams going for five spots. Somebody's going to be out. I don't think it's gonna be the Phillies and I think they're gonna write the ship But they have to do it with pitching you you're not gonna average eight or nine runs a game So sure if you're gonna get bombed every other game, you're not gonna win anything No, I I agree to the same point like the other score for the first four innings tonight tonight when it was 0-0 It doesn't matter what does it? Well then no I mean come on no you can't look at it that way you've got to get well-pitched games the games the Billy
Starting point is 00:38:14 won the last couple weeks the really good games two to one three to two three to nothing that you have to win those kind of games once you get in the game with the other team scoring eight or nine runs, forget it. You can't blame the offense. No team can do that. So that's all I got to say. I've been watching games since I was a kid at Connie Mac Stadium. I have a little bit of credibility.
Starting point is 00:38:36 I got you. Thanks, Sean. I don't disagree. I'm just saying that they also didn't score for the first four innings of tonight. It was a 0-0 game. Maybe, if they had scored, maybe Rob Thompson's more aggressive when it's 3-0. Gets him out of the game, and then he changes how he attacks the rest of the game. So that, you know, it doesn't become 6-0.
Starting point is 00:39:03 And when it's 6-0, instead of being 6-0 and when it's six nothing instead of being six nothing Maybe it's six four and then you're not pitching the the back end of bullpen guys to where it gets to 11 I'm not saying the Phillies need to score 12 runs tonight, but also the game could have gone a totally different direction What a postgame show thanks for hanging out On the final out tonight. Hot and heavy. I'm sure Rob Cherry, he will take more of your phone calls, more of your reaction to a tough start to an important series, one that the Phils did not show up for in game
Starting point is 00:39:37 one of. But either way, tomorrow, Colby Allard versus Luis Severino four o'clock here on WIP will be act Monday. We'll have Eagles I guess the Eagles Falcons obviously Monday night, but we're reacting to it all so Thanks for hanging out with me tonight. Enjoy the rest of your Friday night Don't dwell on this one too much as long as they take two or three That's all that really matters Justin Morgan snap produced the program and drop cherries coming up next here on sports radio 94 WIP
