Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey everybody, before we start today's show, wanted to let you know that on December 12th, How Did This Get Made is doing another holiday livestream available to anyone around the world. Head to HDTGM.com for details. We all know that Lady Raven shows slap, but Riley's dad is acting all extra-fried. But why? Maybe it's because he's got the urge. We saw
Starting point is 00:00:28 Trapp, so you know what that means. in his belly, rock a wild stove, that's wild ripping Justin and Kelly Or maybe see a burlesque show with Nick Crowe And take a photo speed to hit the cruise control J.M.I. and Big Paul and the beautiful June Gonna take you from the boom while the wave is the road Rain the game to street fire, hope to blow off steam Just a sucker punch the on-line, for typically great shot Little birdemic, how you standin' alive? They call me when they're badass and he's on the line
Starting point is 00:01:04 Cranking 88 minutes cause they cool as ice. Cause they're bad Jim Bonny lookin' kind of nice. Callin' June, gettin' literal, Jason is gettin' lame. June is makin' sure all the monkey shots in the pain. They're just a bunch of movies while they're makin' the grade. Here's a real question for you, how did this kid pay? Hello, people of Earth! And hello, people of Los Angeles! We are live at Largo to talk about M. Night Shyamalan's latest film, Trap.
Starting point is 00:01:42 If you don't know about Trap, well, let me tell you a little bit about it. IMDB describes the film as, a father and his teen daughter attend a pop concert only to realize they've entered the center of a dark and sinister event. That's a bad log line for this movie. What really happens in this movie is, Josh Hartnett is a serial killer,
Starting point is 00:02:11 a lab rat plot has been set up to capture him at a Taylor Swift-like concert, and you would think, oh, well, that's the movie. No, they're only at that concert for 45 minutes. And the movie is an hour and 45 minutes. A lot more movie. But first, I must admit something. I love this movie.
Starting point is 00:02:39 For those of you at home, I am wearing my own trap shirt. Found it on Etsy. It's red. Has some stills, multiple stills of the movie on it. It says 30,000 fans, 300 cops, one serial killer, no escape. Now that's a fucking log line. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to meet my two co-hosts. Please welcome to the to stage Mr. Jason Manzoukas what's up jerks here we go here we go it's a trap what how did they not have Admiral Ackbar in this movie? How do we live like this?
Starting point is 00:03:48 Come on. It's a trap. This was wild. This was genuinely, absolutely chaotically insane. Watching this movie mere hours ago. Also, I do think I should tell the people at home that the Etsy t-shirt is clearly giving Paula rash I will be fully broken out by the end of this show like it is it appears to be like smoldering I
Starting point is 00:04:16 Will tell you it was worth the eight dollars and the carcinogenic application This was absolutely nuts. And right as it was ending, I found out there was an hour more of the movie. Right at the end! And then I was like, now hang on. How can there be an hour left of the movie? They're leaving this stadium? Dot, dot, dot what? The stadium is just the appetizer.
Starting point is 00:04:48 Oh, yeah. In the second half of the movie, where Lady Raven is the star, is the hero of the movie, and a detective? What are we doing? Lady Raven... Lady Raven goes full Columbo. Oh, wait, oh, oh! Yes! Yes!
Starting point is 00:05:06 June, Diane Rayfield! Yes, let's go! What's going on? Let's go! Too much was being discussed. Too much was happening. Give it up for June. I had to get out.
Starting point is 00:05:14 How... How are you, June? I'm well. How are you, Paul? I'm good. Thank you. I couldn't... I'm sorry, June.
Starting point is 00:05:22 I'm sorry. No, I just couldn't listen to you, Paul? I'm good. Thank you. I couldn't... I'm sorry, June. I'm sorry. No, I just couldn't listen to another word, and I won't accept any disrespect toward Lady Raven. I won't hear of it, and I won't have it.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Have I gone on Spotify to listen to the album of... No! Absolutely not. It's good! You know why this movie is two hours long? Because 45 minutes are a live Lady Raven concert. And... And...
Starting point is 00:05:55 I have to say, if we're gonna start on... There's so much to discuss. We have a guest. And let's bring our guest out. Immediately. Immediately, because what I want to talk about is the Lady Raven beat and the cadence of every Lady Raven song.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Which is, it's all very slow jams. You know, it doesn't warrant a stadium of that size. I have a lot to say. I just want to say... Or for that age group either. Before we bring out our guest, I just want to say one thing. I had the absolute pleasure of watching this movie with June in the theater and June did not know the premise of the film. And as it started to unravel she looked at me and said what the fuck is going on and it was one of
Starting point is 00:06:47 the most fulfilling moments in my life to know that she had no when Josh Hartnett pulls out his phone in the bathroom stall it was like wait a second I don't know what movie she thought we were seeing but what an incredible way to experience the movie. I wish I had no idea. You knew he was a serial killer at a big concert. Yes, I did. It's in the tagline of the movie.
Starting point is 00:07:16 All I knew is we were going to the Americana, we were going to have dinner at Frida at 5 p.m. and then go see a 7 o'clock movie. And that sounded great. And by the way, I had a fucking great time at this movie. I loved it. And I want to say something, because now I've seen it on the big screen, I've seen it on the smaller screen.
Starting point is 00:07:35 I'm going to say this. This movie deserves to be seen on the big screen. Oh yeah. Well. Absolutely does. I feel like we couldn't talk about this movie effectively without our guest tonight. This is a first time guest that we've had on the show.
Starting point is 00:07:51 This is somebody that, if you're on Instagram, you might have seen him on TikTok. He is what I like to call a pop culture anthropologist, if you will. Please welcome Blakely Thornton. Woo! anthropologist if you will please welcome Blakely Thornton. Welcome to the show. Hello. I am so excited to have you here to talk about Trap. Did you see you saw in the theater? I saw it in theater. I'm a Josh Hartnett
Starting point is 00:08:22 apologist though. Okay so like he's had me since Hello, since Pearl Harbor, since the red carpet of Oppenheimer. Yes. I thought he was absolutely fantastic. And then in the third act, Alison Peele shows up and just dunks for like an hour. She just is like, watch this. Bam, bam, bam, bam!
Starting point is 00:08:45 And then everything just goes into another gear. And they're both just, I think, incredible. This movie is like... I totally agree. It only works because he is such a good actor. And there's something about his unraveling, which also coordinates with his hair, because his hair comes down like the more teenage version of like the Josh Hartnett
Starting point is 00:09:06 that I feel like I first saw. So when he gets real frazzled, that, what I don't know, that part just kind of comes. No, you know what it is, Paul, because I spent a lot of time with his part. And because I think what was happening is that they were initially going for like a dad part, like I think they were going for a dad hair and trying to not make him look like we all know
Starting point is 00:09:32 he looks. He looks fucking great. Well, I think they were also doing a like he's fastidious and OCD and as he's coming unraveled his hair starts to become must and... Well, anyone who's that facidious wouldn't have that kind of a wimpy mustache. I feel like you shaved it. First of all, be careful. Cooper? Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Cooper's going to be so pissed. I am all on board. I love John. I just felt like that... What are we doing with that mustache? Is that a choice? Well, so you're calling him out, you're saying he can't grow a mustache. Ooh, I'm saying he's showing me that he can't grow a mustache. Is that a choice? So you're calling him out, you're saying he can't grow a mustache. Ooh, I'm saying he's showing me that he can't grow a mustache. Like, grow the mustache. I mean, I think actually though, he's a great dad and... And he is?
Starting point is 00:10:17 Is he though? Look, he's just trying to balance that work-life balance. He's trying to be a modern man. He's trying to be a modern man. He is constantly abandoning his daughter. Like, calling... Like a modern man. Yes, the movie wants you to think he's a good dad, especially in the beginning,
Starting point is 00:10:35 but he's constantly like, I gotta go. I gotta go, I'll be right back. All he had to do to make all of those make sense is I have diarrhea. I have diarrhea, and guess what? Everybody's gonna be like, take all the time you need. I understand completely. I'm having diarrhea again.
Starting point is 00:10:52 It's so interesting. I also thought the actress who played his daughter was phenomenal. I love her. The acting in this movie is just like so good. But I just wanna start at the beginning, Paul. The, just the conceit of this concert, which is in broad daylight. It was an ad show with several cameras in stadium. The concert also has numerous intermissions where they stop down completely so everybody
Starting point is 00:11:21 can go out and do concessions and t-shirts. And then when the show is completely over and they all exit, it's 4 p.m. So there's a line of ADR on Lady Raven's back as she's walking into the stadium from her trailer and it's Riley's line. And she says something like, I'm so glad they added this afternoon concert after the rest of them were sold out. It was such a, like, it's a crazy line. Was Riley in on it?
Starting point is 00:11:51 This is, I'm so glad, dad, we invited this extra show. But I was really just for you. I didn't even need it. This is independent filmmaking at its finest. I mean, M. Night financed this movie, this is his thing. He's like, yeah, we're not gonna do night shoots. That's lights.
Starting point is 00:12:07 We're going in at noon. Like, like. But I truly spent so much of the movie trying to understand like the stadium and arena schedule. Like, why did it have to be in the afternoon? So many unions at play. Well, she had to like, so she like, let's say this. She did three sold out nights in Philly.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Great. Okay, great. But then they're like, oh, unfortunately, 76ers are playing tonight. We can't move that. Will you do like a noon show? Yeah, I guess. I've never. And we can't pay for any of your personal security.
Starting point is 00:12:40 All right, get rid of them. Well, the entire conceit was built on a real thing, a real police trap, if you will, where they brought, like, I guess drug dealers in and told them they won Super Bowl tickets and then arrested them at a stadium. Is this true? Yes.
Starting point is 00:12:54 This is actually a really interesting story, because the way they did it is. I have no idea. Well, by the way, when I was searching for the movie today, Paul watched me try to find it on Apple, and I was like, T-R-A, what's the name of this movie? M? Tram?
Starting point is 00:13:09 What was it called? Paul goes, Tram? How much of the movie Tram did you watch? Completely forgot. So, now it's based on our real story. They brought in 112 men, and they said, hey, you won Super Bowl tickets, right? And then they had brought in these like, these fake cheerleaders,
Starting point is 00:13:26 and the cheerleaders were cops who then, like, felt up the guys to make sure they didn't have weapons on them, right? And then somebody else came around, like, here's a balloon, and each balloon was color-coordinated to what crime they had done. Exactly. The 80s were fucking wild. Insane.
Starting point is 00:13:41 And then they arrested everybody. Now, someone did feel me up in the back. And I will say that the best, most like fuck you part of it was the letter that informed them that they had Super Bowl tickets was signed by Michael Detnaw, which is wanted spelt backwards. What a dick move. I love it. The cops have too much time on their hands. And they also were redirected to another guy
Starting point is 00:14:09 named Marcus Cran which was Narx Felt Backwards. And I thought the law was the music they were pumping in while these guys were getting all these like they really were like ah they pulled off the prank of the century. Because it wasn't just cops, they were all dads and uncles too. You could say it was entrapments. OK. Ah! So I mean, this NFL sting is the real impetus for this movie. I mean, although there are, I mean, they say 300 cops. There are more than 300 cops.
Starting point is 00:14:46 It's like every cop in Philadelphia is there. Crime is rampant in Philadelphia on this thing. Rampant. I went to Penn, rampant. It was so interesting because they go to such great lengths to like play it out, to let you linger in it for a while until it's like, okay, he's this big, the butcher or whatever, he's this big guy.
Starting point is 00:15:07 And then to establish this profiler, right? To establish these two characters that are clearly in some sort of cat and mouse, but have them never speak. And never, you never gain any access to the wise or the interiority of what Hartnett is up to at all, you are just watching him try and get out of a concert that genuinely I also would like to leave. So, I'm rooting for him. I'm rooting for him to kill his way out of this nightmare.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Here's what I'm gonna say. My bold declaration about this movie is it is a comedy and the only reason why that profiler is there and why it's Hayley Mills is because this is a parent trap. Wait, is it actually Hayley Mills? I feel like that was an idea that someone's like, who do we get? Well, Hayley Mills. Like, it's such a bizarre choice. That's interesting. Mills. I feel like that was an idea that someone's like, oh, who do we get? Well, Hayley Mills. Like, it's such a bizarre choice. But I love that. Yeah, I mean, we don't learn much about her really either.
Starting point is 00:16:12 I would love for them to have had a conversation. I would love for them to have had more of a something. And also, it seems, it troubled me that she is both the profiler of serial killers, but also like in charge of executing such a large scale operation. She's not just the profiler of serial killers, but also like in charge of executing such a large scale operation. She's not just the profiler, she's also I believe leading the SWAT team.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Those should be two very different jobs. Also she fails. Miserably. Oh she's bad at it. Repeatedly, he kills several people in the stadium. Yes. Gets out of the stadium. We never go really to them.
Starting point is 00:16:45 We never get any much. We never get like, there's nobody who choose her out and it's like, OK, we're taking over this jurisdiction. You know, we never get any. We never get any exposition. Well, we get exposition, but it's confusing. At one point when he steals the police headset, they go, OK, we have some identifying factors.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Oh yeah. He is, we're looking for a man of various builds, red-haired, black males, a 60-year-old, or a 30-year-old with a tattoo of a bunny on his wrist. That's, first of all, very specific. They got a tattoo, have they got the wrist tattoo. Also, we have no, we never understand why they've even come to that list. We don't get it.
Starting point is 00:17:35 I love that. Well, what I had to make up in my mind, because the movie didn't offer me this, but later on when we see footage of the abduction of Spencer, we... Which is basically a silence of the Lamb scene. Who is Spencer? Spencer's the man who's trapped in another way. Yes, on the phone.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Yes, that's Spencer. But when we see Josh Hartman's hand come out of the van and pull him in, and I thought, oh, that must be how they saw that bunny. The tattoo. Yeah. But wait, but it's black and white security camera footage from like at least 50 feet high
Starting point is 00:18:12 and the van is about 20 feet away. Oh more, they just had to do enhance four times. I mean, but that's- They just did four times, or they did zoom in, zoom in, zoom in, enhance, enhance, zoom in, enhance. It's such a funny idea to be like we need we need authorization to get all these cops because we know that this guy's gonna be at the concert. All right what does he look like? Well yeah he could be a black
Starting point is 00:18:35 guy could be old guy could be a 30 year old guy could have red hair could have a scar on his jaw. We don't know could be short could be stocky could be lean. You know what they don't say? They know he bought two tickets but they don't know, it could be short, could be stocky, could be lean, could be muscular. You know what they don't say? They know he bought two tickets, but they don't say he'll be with someone. Why doesn't the ticket have information on it? Like, the seat.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Why are they waiting? Why are they waiting? That's how tickets are made, right? They get a seat. How about this? How about this? Why are they waiting until after the concert, I guess they want everybody inside?
Starting point is 00:19:01 I'm like, they could have gotten him coming in. Why was there a paper ticket? It's 2024. Oh, why wasn't there any cameras anywhere? I know that we saw a couple of cameras, but this guy pushes a girl down the stairs. He blew a girl. You're telling me there's not a motherfucking camera on that?
Starting point is 00:19:23 He blew a girl up. He blew a girl up. He blew a girl up. Oh yeah. He blew up a whole fry container and scarred a woman. And they don't even show how he did that. He walked, I guess he stealthily dressed just as himself, walked into a frying station, threw all those bottles in, and then was back.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Like it makes no sense. But there's a version of this movie where we are, they're all bad guys and we want him to escape. I want him to escape. I think we all want him to escape. Yes, we're all rooting for him in this insidious way. And then every time he would go to Spencer in the basement,
Starting point is 00:19:58 I'd be like, get fucking killed this guy. Fuck Spencer. Come and get rid of Spencer. Spencer's holding us back. We know nothing about him. There are some choices this movie makes though that are so baffling, but also I really appreciate it. Like I was like, oh, interesting that Spencer's not a woman.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Interesting. You know, most serial killers kill women. And like this is, there were choices the movie made and M M. Night made, that I tipped my hat to. Well, you wanna know his reason? I mean, his reason, I wrote it down. Oh no. The reason why he gets the urge is when he sees people who think they're whole.
Starting point is 00:20:38 But everyone is in pieces. Oh, I fucking love jigsaw puzzles. I love it. If you're coming up with your serial killer thing, it's like, huh. It's like Kate Bush lyrics. It's like because they think they're whole, but I want them to know that they're not whole. But I'm just getting that from just a glance. Oh, there is. He has no, like, philosophy.
Starting point is 00:21:06 He has no... He does not have a point of view, especially to the degree that they're telling us how prolific he is. They should have found him years ago. He's too basic. Well, I have so many questions. I mean, I don't want to spoil the M. Night twist, but... There is no twist. Well, there's a want to spoil the M. Night twist, but... There is no twist. Well, there's a little bit of a twist.
Starting point is 00:21:28 There is a little bit of a twist. Alison Pill does know she is the one who ultimately has set this trap, or tram, for him. And... It's a tram. Once I went back with that information, I was like, wait, so this... But if she set the trap, then wouldn't they know exactly what he looks like?
Starting point is 00:21:49 No, she called anonymously. She broke a ticket in an abandoned house and left it there. That was fucking logical. But also... I think my husband's a serial killer, but I don't want to really rat him out. But here's what I'm going to say. Here's what I'm going to say. If Spencer had died, that's on Allison Pills' head. Because she knew it was him, she could have turned him in, but instead she left, she breadcrumbed the police.
Starting point is 00:22:12 I love that. To be like, figure it out. She's a fucking psycho. And also, she is truly a psychopath. She poisoned that pie. One slice of it. Although people ate that pie. Lady Raven did.
Starting point is 00:22:23 Are they okay? Where are they? I wanted the twist to be... She knew he was coming. I wanted it to be like an S&M twist. One slice of it. Oh yeah. Although people ate that pie. Lady Raven did. Are they okay? Where are they? I wanted the twist to be that he... She knew he was coming. I wanted it to be like an S&M twist. Like the cheese, like you go kill somebody for me. Oh yeah. I thought that too and I wanted it so bad
Starting point is 00:22:36 that they were a team. It would have been amazing, right? And he was like, oh, this guy, he's like, I just tried to do it for my wife. I'm just gonna do it for my wife. Or if he was like, I'm so sorry Spencer got away. I know you wanted to eat him. Spencer was the pie.
Starting point is 00:22:53 By the way, they got Spencer out quick. Yeah. From that Instagram Live to him being released is like 30 seconds. Some girls like, there is a statue on my block. She's like, talk to your uncle. I would fucking, I mean, I was out of my mind that Lady Raven livestreams a rescue of an abducted man
Starting point is 00:23:11 who's moments away from running out of oxygen and is like, what up, fam? Listen, if anybody lives near a bra, like, this was nuts level stuff. I loved it. I love that whole sequence when he's banging on the door and Riley's screaming like, Dad, what are you doing? You're embarrassing me.
Starting point is 00:23:29 I loved it. Dad, my favorite part of that, I want to play it just because it's so good, is just reading the comments on the live. I'm like, whoever did that. I thought they were very realistic. They did it so good because there's like one thing where somebody just goes, somebody goes, there's a statue on my block. Yeah, and then somebody's like, she looks like she needs help.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Like, she doesn't always look like it, she also is telling you explicitly, I need help. But look at just, just look at the comments, the comments are amazing. Here we go. Hey guys, I need help here. I need it right now. Hello. Hello. It's like Raven, oh my God, she's live. Fly. Fly.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Go off, bitch. This is not a joke. We only have seconds. I know you can do this. You slayed today. Does anyone in Philadelphia or nearby New Jersey live near a statue of a broken lion? It must be an entrance.
Starting point is 00:24:23 This seems serious. I was at the show. I love the innocuous ones. I live near a lion statue. She looks scared, guys. I know a lion statue. On a street nearby where there is a blue door on a house somewhere in your neighborhood.
Starting point is 00:24:39 Broken lion, blue door? Oh my God, I wish I could help. Bare hands. How is this? I live next to a park, but no more hands. This is so much of the movie. This is like the Kitty G of Anise murder. Talking about, which is just being stabbed. And no one helps.
Starting point is 00:24:59 This is the social media version of that. I'm telling my uncle. Go now, go now, hurry. I feel like if you put different music on it, this would be an ad for the phone. Hey guys. Saving lives. With Verizon. One life at a time. Samsung. An interesting fun fact about this movie is it's one of the only films to use an iPhone for a killer. Because Apple does not let you use their, like, bad films to use an iPhone for a killer because Apple does
Starting point is 00:25:25 not let you use their like bad guys to use their phone but and I was like I independently finances I'm fucking use nice but I mean there's so much there's so much talk about I do want to get into the opening band Papa's's Boots. Hey, we're Papa's Boots. They're wearing translucent rain slickers and no shirts. They must be so sweaty. The condensation that's building up under those rubber rain slickers and they have... I was blown out by that. That looked miserable. Yeah, there were so many different characters in Lady Raven's entourage. There was Mr. Thinker. And he was his own... He was amazing, actually. I thought his performance was incredible. I believe his name was Dr. Thinker?
Starting point is 00:26:16 Oh, was it Dr.? And she called him at one point Mr. Dr. Thinker? Am I wrong or is it something like that? The Thinker. Oh, the Thinker. Oh, Mr. The Thinker is what she... Am I wrong or is it something like that? The Mr. The Thinker is what she's and then there was the other guy who comes up out of the floor Oh, yeah, like a ball of an S person. Yeah, exactly and then wearing the translucent, but I mean you guys know that that's kid Cutty the thinker is kid cutty. Oh
Starting point is 00:26:39 With the weave with the I did not realize down thought Siana weave and the habit great I mean where he's talking about, like, if they don't give me lactate milk, I'm gonna shit my pants. Like, that's what this movie is a fucking comedy. And he's like, I need the peach kombucha. Okay, he was amazing. This role was perfect.
Starting point is 00:26:55 You should get an Oscar for that. Honestly. Jason, you talked about this earlier about like all these breaks. Everyone, like, not to brag, I've seen Taylor Swift I saw Madonna no one's ever in the fucking hallways everyone is watching the show because they've paid so much money they're like for this two hours I'm gonna sit in my seat but they always are saying like
Starting point is 00:27:17 while she's doing the set change oh yeah there's no changes that doesn't exist that's what I'm saying they don't stop down I was very troubled by the medical team that was waiting backstage. Who were happy to have a serial killer helping? Okay. So that nurse who's back there, and so many young women are fainting, look very nauseous. And I know they were trying to like tell us that they were overheated or dehydrated. It looked like they had all just gotten some sort of terrible virus and were, you know, a pandemic was breaking out. Like the way they played that was so odd to me. So this was a super spreader event?
Starting point is 00:27:56 Possibly. Most likely. So they take them back to this medical area and the nurse, so Josh Hartnett immediately starts opening drawers, taking out different medical supplies and the nurse is like, please let him, please, we need him, we got to keep him back here. Can we keep him? She says, what? But at the end of the thing, doesn't he just get like an ice pack for until he drinks some
Starting point is 00:28:21 orange juice? It's like, he does, guy. He's a good nurse. He has not washed his hands. He is a firefighter. He's a firefighter, so he kind of has that like an O'Brownie paper towel man image. But I'd love him to present his credentials or anything. It felt crazy that he was back there.
Starting point is 00:28:37 He's a tall, attractive white man in America. That is his credential. I guess so. This movie is over from Jump if he's not a tall, attractive white man. They're like, what? He puts her down and arrests him, put him in jail, shoot him dead.
Starting point is 00:28:50 But what I would say about him. You would think they would shoot him, but they only tased him 900 times. We cannot shoot him. He's white. He's only killed 12 people brutally today and a handful of people today. He only blew one girl, he only maimed that girl.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Okay, yes, but that girl was asking for it because she was too drunk at that concert. That's why she was out there. And why, here's my question. Well, first of all, why does the FBI or whoever they are, why do they include the vendors of the concert in such a high level operation? Why are all the vendors in on this?
Starting point is 00:29:33 A stadium that's holding 30,000 people, there are hundreds of workers, hundreds. They're like, all right, we have a very secret plan. Let's get a hundred people, a couple hundred people in the room and tell them everything. Let's get Ron Ron from West Philly and be like, yo, guess what? We got a plan. Tell nobody. You know that there are, you know that this has been all over like the radio where people are like, actually it's a trap. They're said, there's everybody's talking about the trap
Starting point is 00:30:00 concert. Fuck a trap. It's on black Twitter immediately. Of course. Immediately, it's being livestreamed. Everybody knows. All right, I will say the best post-credit scene of all time is my friend. Incredible. Did you remember this? The post-credit scene where Jamie, he's the vendor.
Starting point is 00:30:20 Oh, yeah. Clearly they were like, no. Who's a fan? Who's a fan of the butcher? The fan? Yeah, he had, oh my god, he had videos of his work. Oh, yeah. Clearly they were like, who's a fan? Who's a fan of the butcher? The fan? Yeah, he had, oh my God, he had videos of his work. He showed him videos of his own work. And I really want to talk about that because Jamie left me so unsettled.
Starting point is 00:30:37 On his phone, he is walking around with videos of a body chopped up to pieces. Yeah, chopped up. I've seen worse. He's a man. I, again, the less I know about men, the better, always. Always, but I- As a gay man, I say that constantly. I was like, this is so distressing to me.
Starting point is 00:30:56 It's a trap. All I'll say is this, like, this is where I feel like the movie does know on some level it is a full comedy, because they're like, let's get Jamie in here at the end and just have them do the final moment of them This is the final moment of the movie news tonight out of Malvern, Pennsylvania After a seven-year-long manhunt the identity of the butcher has finally been revealed Cooper Abbott a local fireman and family man has been arrested Here's a it so great.
Starting point is 00:31:27 Here's a picture of nobody at work no more. I ain't talking to nobody. Nobody! Kadija! And I felt so much, because here's my question about this wonderful actor, is like I've been, I feel like I've been in his position before where you start at a level where you're like this feels real and this feels grounded. I'm being truthful right now.
Starting point is 00:32:04 And then you're told to do it more and it's gotta be upped. And then you land at this. And there's no taking it back. Especially, it's especially difficult when you're in a scene alone because you cannot measure against the other person or other people to calibrate. So you are just exposed.
Starting point is 00:32:24 Yes, I fell for him. It's also interesting to me that the news is on or other people to calibrate, so you are just exposed. Yes! I fell for him. It's also interesting to me that the news is on and says they're gonna cut to a photo, and then there's just no sound. So the news, I guess, just went silent for it. And stayed on that picture. But he also is like, it's so funny,
Starting point is 00:32:38 as an actor, I see the same thing. He's like, yes, he's in the scene by himself. They put a camera on him, like, we'll just tape this. You know, Em will just kind of, or Knight, the big Knight will just kind of walk you through it. And you see him, like, he's dusting off his shirt, you know, and he's looking like, oh, they caught the guy, I'm excited.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Like, you see him like, pop up, like, okay, who is it gonna be? And it's like, he's going through so much in that scene. It is. That's what I'm using as my monologue now. When I go into audition for things, I just play a clip of a nukes guy. Oh, oh, oh! The other actor that I want to shout out is in when Josh Hartnett and his daughter have been invited backstage.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Oh, I love her. And she's gonna go and, you know, dance with Lady Raven and all this kind of stuff. There is a character where Lady Raven is backstage and a woman runs up the stairs and falls, wipes out, falls entirely. That is not part of the scene. They just kept this as the take. Okay, cause Jason. Cause the falling woman had no bearing
Starting point is 00:33:37 on the scenes content. I think it did. How? I think it did. How? I thought of this for an hour. I did too. I thought about it when I- I was like, why did that woman fall? I think it did. How? I'll tell you. I thought of this for an hour. I did too.
Starting point is 00:33:46 I thought about it when I... I was like, why did that woman fall? I know. What part did that play? I'll tell you why. I thought about it when I saw it on the big screen. I thought about it when I saw it on the little screen. What do you think, June?
Starting point is 00:33:55 What I think is that we saw in that moment, it was subtle work, but you saw Lady Raven. No, no. First of all, no. On Lady Raven's part. Oh, oh, on Lady Raven. No, no, first of all, no. On Lady Raven's part. Oh, on Lady Raven. Lady Raven's part. She had either just had her inhaler or was about to.
Starting point is 00:34:10 And I want to talk about- Never comes back. Never comes back, but- She also doesn't pass the inhaler to anyone. And she's wearing a very skippy outfit. I don't know where she's putting that inhaler for the final song. Like, ooh, shuffling. No, I believe the woman who falls is bringing the inhaler.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Yeah, you're right, you're right. But what we learn from that fall and why it's so important is because you see Lady Raven, who's about to perform for thousands and thousands, turn around and show us that she cares. That she's compassionate. She's a hero. Yeah, even in such an intense moment of going on stage
Starting point is 00:34:44 and needing a sip of water and making herself okay, she is, she still knows what's important in life. Okay, I'll go on. Not necessarily bending down and helping her up, no. I was like. No, no, no, but just looking and seeing. I will say this. Just acknowledging. Acknowledging sharing the human experience.
Starting point is 00:35:03 Acknowledging that she exists. Say it. I will say this. I see that you experience. Just acknowledging that she exists. Say bitch. I will say this, I see that you exist. You are an NPC in my life. I am Lady Raven. I was going to say genuinely one of my, because I know we're really, we're really going in hard on Lady Raven and one of my favorite Lady Raven moments was when she went, I could play a song. And pointed at the piano and the camera went, whomp.
Starting point is 00:35:31 I was like, is this an SNL sketch? What is, like, is Please Don't Destroy gonna walk out? Like, what is happening right now? I am, I am a fan of Lady Raven. I'm a fan of Salika because she's doing the mental chess. Like, that's what's going on, right? Because the two of them... Oh, because she's Columbo now.
Starting point is 00:35:50 Right. She acts like his mother. She's Mariska Hargitay in Law and Order SVU as a pop star. But she really does go on the journey. And you can see that she's kind of ill-equipped, but she's also trying to figure it out. Like, she's caught in a trap. I don't...
Starting point is 00:36:07 Wait, she's... Was that organic? That was organic. But she's caught... She doesn't know how to deal with him. And I feel like that's the cat and mouse game the entire movie, which is odd because she's just a pop star who happened to do a concert on this day. So she has a monologue on stage which I wanted to tie into the rest of her journey and it was hard too.
Starting point is 00:36:32 And I did my best but it was hard too. But that monologue is about, she says something to the audience of like, I want you to think about everyone who's hurt you. I want you to think about that person. Raise your hand if someone's hurt you. If someone's hurt you, raise your hand and show me, show me. And think about that person and now forgive them. She says, you have to tell them,
Starting point is 00:36:52 you are not responsible for my pain. I release you from hurting me. And I think she says, you're not responsible for hurting me, which is like very strange. You are not responsible, I release you from hurting me. I wrote it down... You are not responsible. I release you from hurting me. I wrote it down. You are not responsible. I release you from hurting me. A man wrote that. Like what?
Starting point is 00:37:17 That's fucking stupid. Right. Because like, what does it mean? Like, I was like, I don't buy that. Like on so many levels. no, you are responsible. If you are hurt by, like... There was so, it's such a blanket statement. Like, I don't understand what she's trying to get at there. I mean, unless it's Amneth trying to make his daughter forgive him.
Starting point is 00:37:39 I don't know, and I thought for sure this was gonna come back in the car scene where she's trying to negotiate with him. But instead, she does cosplay as his mother. Who told her to do that? Also how was she briefed? Like yo if he traps you in a car act like his mom. Is she an agent? Is Lady Raven a government agent? Should he get out and into your limousine and you were in West Philadelphia on Chestnut Street, fucked up, talk like his mom, he'll get a boner and cry. It'll be amazing. What?
Starting point is 00:38:12 And how, by the way, how does the profiler know the tone and cadence of his mother's voice? How does she know from his... I mean, the profile's making some big, he drives a dark car. Oh, wow. Was it on the video when he pulled her in the van? Well, they were saying no, they only know it because
Starting point is 00:38:33 OCD people drive dark cars. Oh, because they don't want to be your dirty. But then. Don't look at me like that. I would love to have seen Salika take off high heels, because it does feel like she's still wearing an uncomfortable shoe for a majority of her detective work. It's very Jurassic Park.
Starting point is 00:38:51 Yeah. Whenever she sees her walking on the street, she's still in full show costume. How about when like, I know we're jumping around to like all over the place, but this is, this was just a wild ride in this at the end when When Lady Raven is trapped in the bathroom and she's screaming to them. Your husband is the butcher That is direct. She's bad at this because at that point She must understand that his only option is to kill them and everything So she must assume
Starting point is 00:39:25 like and then she's like oh wait a minute and then she just opens the door like oh I'll just be like what's going on out here because and then they're fine and the family is fine and then he ushers them all out and then gives normal dad goodbyes to everybody. He's like hey son good luck with that science project. Like, it really is like, shh. I was obsessed with the goodbye moment. Him trying to be normal dad in that moment. After they escaped through a window and down a tree. Oh, and the tunnel under his home.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Oh, when did he have time to build that and no one saw? Like, where is dad? Oh, he's out, like, literally out back, built, like, to build a tunnel no one saw. Like, where's Dad? Oh, he's like literally out back. Like, to build a tunnel. He built an underground railroad. This motherfucker, Harriet Tubman, his own house. And they're like, whatever. It's cool.
Starting point is 00:40:15 And that's shame on the neighbor. That's shame on the neighbor who has a tunnel exit in their yard and never notices. Right. It would be pretty obvious. Like, hey honey, why does this part feel like wood? Like, oh. It's too much.
Starting point is 00:40:29 But what I do like about Lady Raven is she keeps it in the family. Because her uncle's working the concert, who is actually in real life her dad. But he does have to give a complicated backstory of who he is, because it is M. Night's cameo. So when he introduces himself This is a let's see this is this is how he introduces himself about his relationship there we go
Starting point is 00:40:53 I'm actually her uncle her mother's brother Why do you have to explain her like Because he could be her father's brother. You know, some people, you know what, I might want to put something in there because some people might not know what an uncle is. Yeah. That's what this movie feels like. This movie, sometimes the dialogue feels like they're in a training video. May I see your house, the place where you live? Oh yes, you can come to the house. That's where I sleep and I eat food.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Oh, I also have a home. Oh, where do you live? I live in a tall home. I live in a short home. They all, like, it's everyone is... too interested and too expository. Well, I do feel weirdly this movie gives a lot of play to uncles in general. Like, he explains what an uncle is
Starting point is 00:41:47 and also like how he's an uncle. And then the little girl who ends up saving Spencer is like, I'll go get my uncle. Like, uncles are important in this movie. Uncles are important and they're heroes. Uncles matter. Uncles are heroes too. Uncles are important, dads are killers, dads are murderers.
Starting point is 00:42:07 That's right, dads are murderers, uncles are heroes. Yes. Uncles are the real heroes. That's the t-shirt. But I'm also going to say this. This family, if you take Josh Hartnett and you just go, just take the serial killer on, put that on the side. We know that that's bad.
Starting point is 00:42:27 This is a creepy family. Like, T to B creeps. When the daughter gets in the limo, there's like a bag of candy, and she's like, can I have this? Take a fucking, you already have two bags of swag where you're getting four water bottles in there, like you don't need to take Lady Raven's candy.
Starting point is 00:42:45 All of your success is predicated entirely on the stolen valor of my daughter has leukemia. Oh, we haven't talked about the fact that all of us. This poor girl's life is incredible for a series of hours and then the worst experience of her life. Imagine for her, Lady Raven for the rest of her life will be a reminder of the worst day of her life.
Starting point is 00:43:11 No, but her life was already in shambles. The other girls already fucking hated her. Oh, yes. Oh. That's why. The mom, that mom. She's my favorite character. She's such a bitch. Incredible. She's amazing.
Starting point is 00:43:23 I don't know if anyone noticed that when Riley's up there doing the dreamer girl or dream girl, dreamer girl moment with Lady Raven, they cut to a shot of the other girls and you know that's her daughter, she has red hair, and the mom and the daughters realize that that's That's Riley and then she turns and her and the mom just starts screaming. Yeah They come back to it multiple times I Laughed so hard. I was that's the funniest thing I have ever seen. Screaming. This movie is a comedy. That's what I'm saying. No words, just sounds.
Starting point is 00:44:07 That mom also says something that I want to get into. When she first meets Josh Hartner, she's like, oh, I haven't seen you since the whole parent teacher thing. I'm like, what the fuck did he do at the parent teacher conference? Like the way she said it was like. Murder someone? Yeah, like did he strangle a teacher?
Starting point is 00:44:23 Because it wasn't like, oh, I haven't seen you since parent teacher conference night. It was like, I haven't seen you since though. You know, the whole parent teacher thing. I was like, I was like, this guy's not living a safe life. But like, I do want to just go back to that family is weird. The mom, Allison Pill, finds out that Lady Raven's coming and she's like, quick, let me make some deviled eggs.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Let me make a plate, everyone, this will be sure to please everyone. Like so many deviled eggs. Also, Donaldson Pill is like 32. How does she have like a 14-year-old? I don't know. She's like 30 years old. By the way, can I just say something?
Starting point is 00:44:59 Justice for Logan. So Logan the son barely gets a line, you know, and then at the very end when Riley comes up to, Justice for Logan. So Logan, the son, barely gets a line, and then at the very end, when Riley comes up to, after he's been tased for about an hour and they start hobbling out, Riley comes up to hug him goodbye for what we all know is the last time she'll ever see him,
Starting point is 00:45:18 and Logan just runs past him. Yeah. Also, the right decision. That is the right decision. My dad trapped me in a room, I escaped through a tree, he kidnapped a girl, and he's a butcher. I'm out. I don't even know why those kids are back at the house. They should not be there.
Starting point is 00:45:36 They should not be allowed to be there with him. Why are they back? Why do they bring them back? Get put down. Why do they bring them back? They should not be there. They left her with the aunt. If they left her with the uncle, it would have been fine.
Starting point is 00:45:48 Yeah, that's right. Women are bad, dads are murders, and uncles are the best. It's so crazy because if they had just waited, if they had gotten on their walkie-talkies and just said hold the kids on the other block for just five more minutes, we're walking him out. He's about to get in the bodywear. Oh, we just got a, we managed to get a shirt back on him. Yeah. Can we talk about that?
Starting point is 00:46:11 Can we just like, I've been waiting to talk about this. Oh yeah. Why did he take off his shirt? For the first time in the movie, he's like, this is a choice. He's like, hold on. What? What was that?
Starting point is 00:46:22 I mean, I loved it. Guys, I'll tell you why. I loved it too. And I thought tell you why. I loved it too. And I thought it was wonderful. Really in filmmaking. And yes, this is a movie. It's a first of all, this is a movie. Okay?
Starting point is 00:46:32 It's a movie. It's a film. It's a film. This is synonymous. 35 millimeter. He took his shirt off because she just said something about cleaning fluid and how it's all over his clothes. And he's like, he knows he's about to start butchering.
Starting point is 00:46:48 It's about to get messy. Right, because he does take the butcher knife and wipe it across the table. Well, he's got like one of the cleavers, but he's got the cleaver thing that I believe is for vegetables. Can I just say, and I'll just, you know, almost pause it.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Circle of trust, it was hot. Well, that's not me. It was hot. I'm short of, if he did everything short of killing me in that scene, I'm like, do it. Yes, daddy. Oh, that's what I think it was. I think that that is a moment where you're like,
Starting point is 00:47:13 I'm confused because this is like a shirtless moment. And I'm like, well, how do I feel about this? I think, yeah, because we're all thinking immediately, he looks pretty good. He looks good in a way where you're like, oh, he doesn't, like, working at it doesn't define him. But he is also, like, really in shape. And he could carry you over a threshold.
Starting point is 00:47:34 Or he's got murder strength. Or like, yes, over a threshold or into a shallow grave. Yes. Oh, he can you up. But I was like, are they gonna fuck? And I hope the answer is yes. Yes. Hard yes.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Genuinely, I was like, wait, cause and that was the thing is like, he starts taking his shirt off and I was like, okay, give me, where is this guy? Because, but you know what? Where has this psycho been? It is what you said before about him, him and Allison Piller are so fucking great.
Starting point is 00:48:04 And that sequence I thought was amazing. It's a different movie. It's a different movie, but it is weirdly connected and intimate and sexy and spooky. That entire sequence is everything and again, not in this movie. Yes. It exists in a different movie. But I like that one. But I loved it.
Starting point is 00:48:24 I loved it. and I do, I think, and I do, I think Alison Peele is so phenomenal and so fantastic, and when she does that turn and she starts to be like, she starts to, and he starts to bring everything in super close on both of them, they both become incredible. And the movie is like, I genuinely was like, oh, I'm delighted to discover that the third act of this movie is an intense psychological thriller. I would have watched 90 minutes of that. Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:51 I would watch that as a one act play. Exactly. Like, put them on stage. Let them fuck. I always hear, I knew you hated your mother. I knew you hated your fucking mom. It's like, who's afraid of Virginia Woolf? But like right there.
Starting point is 00:49:03 Because he's like, what's so interesting about that monologue, the weird M. Night thing is like, I am the father who is related to my sister's brother. It's like, then you have that, but then you have this other scene where like he's talking about experiencing anger for the first time and losing control. I'm like, where's that fucking writing? Why the whole time? It's like, could we have gotten that in the fucking beginning? Yeah. To understand anything.
Starting point is 00:49:25 You mean something. No, and he's like, I'm so filled with rage when I look at you. It was a lot. And it was so horny. I wanted him to. And so horny. So horny.
Starting point is 00:49:38 These are people who've been married for who knows how long and they're having a unique experience together that they've never had before. She's provoking from him a reaction, an emotional reaction that he's never experienced before and he's chopped people to bits. And she just poisoned him. Oh, and she's like.
Starting point is 00:49:56 She just poisoned him. And she's waiting for it to hit. Although I will say, in rewatching it, I don't know when she does it. Like, unless she thought, okay, he will come home, I'll figure out how to get him to eat the cake and I'll pre-poison the cake. He'll come home, get past all the cops, get in the kitchen, and I'll convince him to eat this fucking one slice of pie.
Starting point is 00:50:18 Yes. And by the way, because she also eats a slice that is not poisoned. Or she's been building up an immunity to the poison. Princess Bride style. Princess Bride style. Which I tried to do for milk, did not work. Read his book, Joyful Recollections of Trauma, Disneyland, I'll never look at it the same. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:50:38 Plug, plug, plug. Making a movie. Do you think though, do you think to get back in the house he went through the tunnel again? Yes. Oh, absolutely. They should have been blocking off the... Was no one there? Oh, it's shame on the police for not guarding the tunnel.
Starting point is 00:50:50 Well, no, I think, no... I say so. I thought they were working together. I think... Okay, it's not on the screen, but that's okay. Is that... Do we see a part of that conversation with Hailey Mills and Allison Pill? And then it cuts away.
Starting point is 00:51:04 And then Allison Pill goes then it cuts away and then Allison Pill goes, wait, before you leave, Haley Mills, what if I try to trap them? And she's like, interesting. She's like, pull the cops back. They'll come here and then you'll get your man. And Haley Mills is like, I like it. And then I think everyone pulls back and then he comes in because I think that, because they're all ready to get them. But that's, but the- That is incompetent. I love that. Right. all ready to get him, but that's but the that is I love that competent police That would be great. I mean the cops also do a thing where he goes. He's fully cuffed. He's been tased
Starting point is 00:51:34 He's like can you give me a second? They're like yeah sure Like he goes off and fixes the bike we also I'm sorry This is a hard circle back when he like goes through all the SWAT team in plain clothes and gets coffee. While they're all being told, it's a white man and he's tall, it's a tall white man in plain clothes, he's like, what's up, you got any sugar? The guy's like, hey white dude, I'm a white dude, be free.
Starting point is 00:51:57 And all he needs is the badge clipped to his corduroy jacket. Everybody else we see is in a uniform of some sort. All he needs is the badge clipped to his corduroy jacket. Everybody else we see is in like a uniform of some sort. He's in absolutely just a corduroy jacket and a shirt, just like boop-a-da-boop-a-da-boop. I loved it. And then he's like, you guys want some donuts?
Starting point is 00:52:17 No, man, I'm good. But by the way, Josh Hartnett, the way he takes on that sort of dopey, like those characters Like on the roof with those guys? On the roof when he plays really scared through the the doughnut scene where plays really dopey and like Freaked out by all the goings on he does that so fucking well that I'm like, oh Again, Josh Hartnett is the actor we've been waiting for. Oh, yeah
Starting point is 00:52:42 Well, and I also think to your point dumb white men can get away with a lot. He's just so pretty. He could have told me he murdered people, I'd be like, okay, cool. You're cute. I've seen worse things on the internet. I mean, he really, it really is like, this, I mean, when he gets back to the house,
Starting point is 00:53:02 I think that Allison Pyl knows that he wants vengeance. Like, he's gonna come back. Maybe he'll come back for that other guy. Well, maybe he won't, because that guy actually helped him out the vendor. But I feel like that's like, Allison Pill feels like she's been studying serial killers. Everyone's studying serial killers on the show.
Starting point is 00:53:21 Well, I think everybody in modern society is studying serial killers. Everybody with Netflix has studied serial killers. I mean, Alison Pills podcast in the M. Night universe is so good. Only murders in the building on Hulu. But let me ask you this genuinely. Why is he so mad at her? Because she fucking wrecked it.
Starting point is 00:53:42 No, because she outsmarted him. No, before she outsmarts him, he does come back and says he's going to murder her and kill himself. Like, that is his plan. With the best line. But why? No, but he says, I started to think that maybe the trap wasn't them starting the trap, maybe this trap.
Starting point is 00:53:59 That's why he says he starts to imagine a world in which this was all her. That she put this in motion. He does say the best line in the entire film right before it. He's like, I'm going to eat this in five bites. Like he basically is like, he's like, I know you think that like eating this pie is going to prolong your life, but I'm going to eat this fucking thing in five bites. No, I'm sorry Paul to disagree, but she has the best line afterwards, which she says, I know. Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Knowing that it's poison.
Starting point is 00:54:28 Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! I guess my point, though, is that he's already been on camera in his white van. He's already made multiple mistakes before the Taylor Swift ticket stub, which doesn't have a seat on it or any other identifying information account. The movie wants you to think he's Hannibal Lecter
Starting point is 00:54:45 and he's not, he's a dummy. Yeah. He's very smart and then incredibly dumb because he had no plan and I just think he should have killed everyone. Well, that's what I was on the tip of my tongue to be like, it really would have made more sense to me that he kills his entire family.
Starting point is 00:55:03 Yes. Because he has that moment where he's like, those two things can't meet or those two things can't cross my two lives. He starts to talk about his two lives can't overlap. And I was like, oh, let them. And then let him kill everybody. Then it becomes really crazy. Because Lady Raven is responsible.
Starting point is 00:55:21 I love it. Let's go to the crowd here. Let's see what you all have to say. Okay. Yes. Hi. What's your name? What's your question?
Starting point is 00:55:31 We were wondering how Lady Raven knew about the killer profile and stuff. After the concert's over, she's in there with the profile looking at the cameras and stuff. So they debriefed her on everything. Why? Why would they have to debrief the singer of the con? In case he got past everybody. And also, did she put on this extra show as a part of the trap? I think they approached her and were like, we need this as a way to...
Starting point is 00:55:57 No, because he already bought the ticket. No, because he bought the... Yeah, that's right. You're right. So, like, it could have been a 76ers games. It could have been an Eagles game. It just happened to be... It just happened to be the thing he bought a ticket for was Lady Raven. But the guy said this whole show is a trap. Right. So, like, it was designed to...
Starting point is 00:56:17 Wait, did they know he was going to buy a ticket? No, they found the ticket in his safe house. But what if he didn't like... Allison Peele planted the ticket in his empty house. But what if he didn't want it? Alison Pill planted the ticket in his empty safe house. Oh, it was already happening. So that it was, she again is breadcrumbing the FBI to try and capture her husband. Who is bringing their daughter to a concert.
Starting point is 00:56:38 So she's also putting her daughter. Oh, wait, the daughter? When the daughter runs into his arm and the profiler is like, let her go, I was like, please let him snap her neck. Let her go, why? Yes, all right, Pete, yes, man, what do you got? So I have a little math thing. So they end up saying that there's 3,000 males at this
Starting point is 00:56:59 concert that they have to vet, which you've listed out. Now. Out of 20,000, 3,000 men. Now, obviously, you know, there are some that don't fit the 47 profiles that they said they have to fit into. But let's just say they- Latino men should not have been taken. That's the only sector that they know for sure.
Starting point is 00:57:22 2,000 were gay, 1,000 were cops, one was a murderer. But even if they did want to, like, talk to, like, the 3,000 people, you would have to break that down. That would be 30 days' worth of interviews. How long are the interviews? 15 minutes. Okay. Great. What?
Starting point is 00:57:40 I like that he had no hesitation. All right, sir, what's your name? What's your question? How you doing? I'm Gary. Gary, what's up? If they found the ticket stub, and that's what set this whole thing up, why didn't they just have the cops collecting the tickets when they walked in and match the brick or
Starting point is 00:58:00 the brick? Great question, Gary. Well, so I think what happened was- It was a receipt. It wasn Gary. I think it was a receipt. Well, so I think what happened was- It was a receipt? It wasn't a ticket, it was a receipt. So I think Cooper bought the ticket, then printed out the receipt because he does his taxes and he's like, okay, I got to put this in my- I got to put this in QuickBooks.
Starting point is 00:58:14 You think he's trying to write it off? Yes. Also, how did he- He's- How did he- How did he- How did he- How did he-
Starting point is 00:58:22 How did he- How did he- How did he- How did he- How did he- How did he- How did he- You can write off concert. I mean he had a single family home in fucking Pennsylvania on a firefighter's salary. Oh he has multiple safe houses all over the city. Okay so that's what I think Alison Pill. He's got a murder basement. That's why I think Alison Pill like really was you know excited to turn him in
Starting point is 00:58:39 because you know she's been financing his whole operation. She came for money. Oh she's a Bryn Mawr Betty. Oh you know she's bringing all the money. She's a Bryn Mawr Betty. Oh, you know she's bringing all the money. She's a management consultant. She's tired. She's tired, sick, sick, sick of his shit. Oh, yeah. She's on the apps now.
Starting point is 00:58:58 All right, your name and your question. Hi, I'm Maggie. And this is actually related to both the receipt and the house. So very relevant So Cooper says that he has these houses because there are all these vacant spaces due to fire code violations And later he talks about having a safe house on Brewster where he goes to think but Lady Raven has a line Where she says they found a portion of a receipt for a ticket They found it in one of his fake houses.
Starting point is 00:59:27 They're fairly certain are his. And then two lines later, she says, they know from the precision of the crime scenes and fake houses, he's what's called an organized offender? Who's that? Who's that? This is Lady Raven. The protagonist of the movie. The hero that? This is Lady Raven. The protagonist of the movie.
Starting point is 00:59:45 The hero of the movie, Lady Raven. Okay, so let me first name Lady. Last name Raven. I could listen to this monologue, whatever you just did, forever. Forever. I want to just... That just brought something to my attention, which is this.
Starting point is 01:00:03 Lady Raven is on a world tour. Yeah. She is going from city to fucking city. He may have bought this ticket six months ago, may have bought it a week ago. We don't know when he bought it. So she just flew in from Chicago and they're like, okay, we time to debrief you. Like she is acting as if she's been with the FBI. That's a lot of information for her to be...
Starting point is 01:00:27 If I'm Lady Raven, I'm like, let him murder as many people in Philadelphia as he wants. Right. I got shit to do. I don't have time to be Columbo-ing around every city. That I mean, is this the series? Is this the next series for M. Night Shyamalan? It's just every city Lady Raven stings a different serial killer?
Starting point is 01:00:47 I watched it. If he can keep his daughter employed, then yes. I mean... Well, here's my question though about that monologue. Why does she keep calling them fake houses? Yes. So like... That is my question too.
Starting point is 01:00:59 Okay, great. So it implies like that he's setting up like a little vase with some flowers and putting up a couple sweaters on the hangers. Well, some of them are just where he goes to think, which is this house. But he seems to be playing house there. But some of them have Spencer in the basement. Some of them are carbon banoxide nightmares in here. So how did he set that up?
Starting point is 01:01:20 And some are just places, dark places, he goes to think his thoughts. Where he said, he said, I go there just to think and plan. So are we- Here's the way, Paul. Here's my question about, I want to talk about the carbon monoxide because it seems so different from his MO. It seems like what he wants to watch is when the lights go out in people's eyes. That's when he feels peace.
Starting point is 01:01:44 So why is... And control. And control. The carbon monoxide is a fail safe. If shit goes down, I gotta kill this guy. I gotta hit a button and do it quick. How many times does that happen? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:56 That's why he's planning. He's thinking all these options. He's like, what if the concert's a trap? I don't know, all right. Let me create a... You know, like he's already two steps ahead. I guess, but it's like in the time it takes to rig up a carbon monoxide system, you could kill Spencer.
Starting point is 01:02:12 Well, here's my other question, which is, and I think this gets to what you were saying. Is there a difference between a fake house and a safe house? Or did Lady Raven misunderstand the police report and they kept on saying safe house and she's like, got it, safe house. Or did Lady Raven misunderstand the police report and they kept on saying safe house and she's like, got it, fake house. Lady, no, safe house, fake house. What's so crazy is we get so much more information, like important information from Lady Raven
Starting point is 01:02:40 than we do from the FBI profiler. This is all- And honestly, from Jamie, the t-shirt seller. Yes, the butcher's main nemesis is not the profiler. It's Lady Raven. This is a, her dad made the movie, bro. Her dad made the movie. This is a way to legally give her money
Starting point is 01:03:03 and not have the trust fund tax happen yes this movie smuggles a lot of lady written a lot of songs into it this was like the YouTube album that was forced onto all of our iPods a hundred percent yes okay yes your question so he has an app that releases carbon monoxide and kills a guy is that like in the app store? Or is he also like an iOS developer? What seems to be on a home security system that it's like simply safe? They have a carbon monoxide option. You know, they release it.
Starting point is 01:03:37 But it doesn't go the other way. I think you might have to unlock your iPhone to get this app. He unlocked his phone in the background. Yeah, how is she able to unlock his phone and when he does it, it's like a very complicated code. No, because he was filming her and so it was already unlocked. Did she grab it? Yes, your question? Firefighters know about carbon monoxide, so clearly that was a training.
Starting point is 01:04:04 He reverse engineered what he learned on a training that he probably took a lot of extra trainings during the time of COVID. Oh, and that's why though he knows about the fire code violations. So he's going around as a fireman going, this house is a fire code house. I'll just move in here.
Starting point is 01:04:22 Like, so he's, yeah, oh, this movie's smart. Yeah, you're, yes, your name, your question. Yeah, I'm Kevin. So the most confusing part of the movie to me is when they left the house with Lady Raven and they're in the car again and he's dressed up like a SWAT figure. And he's surrounded by fans. And at one point Lady Raven gets out of the car and you think, okay, he's screwed at this point.
Starting point is 01:04:48 But he looks over at some T-shirts that are in the shotgun passenger seat. And within like five or 10 seconds, it seems like he is set up like a Scooby-Doo figure in the front seat. And then also slipped out into the crowd before the- Which is a crowd that is filming him. A crowd that is surrounding him and filming him.
Starting point is 01:05:09 He goes and again, you're right, he's wearing a helmet. He's not even disguised as the chauffeur, he's just wearing a SWAT, like a bulletproof vest and a helmet, changes into a baseball hat and a hoodie and just seamlessly fades into the crowd. Anyway, we have opinions about this movie, but there are people out there with a different opinion.
Starting point is 01:05:31 It is now time for second opinions. Hi, I'm Vic. Well, I guess you caught me because I'm trapped at a concert. Took my daughter out, I figured, hey, well, it can't hurt, but now I'm on the run. I need a second opinion. Because I swear I was careful. I swear I left no trace. Now my kid and lady raven are all up in my face.
Starting point is 01:05:51 They want me behind bars. Bad idea, zero stars. So I don't hesitate. I make my escape. I trick J-May and got away so when you're on Amazon leave your opinion I'll read your review and trap too. Amazing! Great job! Give it up! Everybody fantastic work! What a great job! So many great second opinions.
Starting point is 01:06:28 All right. Well, look, Amazon's got a lot. Let's see what I got here. All right. The average rating of Trap on Amazon is a 3.9 out of five stars. There are 624 total reviews, 52% are five stars. And let's get into it with Andrea H.
Starting point is 01:06:48 Who says, an absolute masterpiece. Of what the psychopaths living amongst us look like. Suburban fathers, pillars of the community. I love the profiling aspect. And the spoilers, The way that Lady Raven breaks through and plays to his delusion was phenomenal. This is on par with Split. Loved it. There it is. Z writes, Josh Hartnett... Need I say more? I loved this movie.
Starting point is 01:07:29 Anxiety on 100 the whole time. Josh Hartnett is too hot to be someone's father. ["Hot on 100"] Oh! ["Hot on 100"] Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!
Starting point is 01:07:52 Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! struggling with work-life balance. Five stars. Amen.
Starting point is 01:08:09 It's so true. It's like the system has failed us. It's an allegory for modern life. I try to keep my work and family separate, but sometimes I can't. I've got my family life. I've got my murder life, aka my work. This is why we need nationalized health care. That's right. Parent trap, indeed.
Starting point is 01:08:31 Okay, any final thoughts here on this TV? I loved when Lady Raven finally escapes the chaos of Cooper and his world and go... She manages to get away. And where does she go? She goes to Spencer. She goes to the house. That's who she is. She is the hero of the movie.
Starting point is 01:08:51 Lay while her tour manager's like, you gotta be in Atlanta tomorrow. You can't, you gotta get some sleep. Taylor Swift doesn't speak after shows because she's like, I performed my, I can't speak. She's out there solving crimes. Like this is why Taylor does stadiums She doesn't speak after shows because she's like, I perform my, I can't speak. She's out there solving crimes. She's like, this is why Taylor does stadiums
Starting point is 01:09:08 and you do arenas, bitch. You're out here solving crimes like a dummy. Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!
Starting point is 01:09:17 Ah! Oh man. Um, what do you guys, anything else, anything else we missed? No. Fuck Spencer. Yeah, honestly. Honestly, be aware of stranger danger, you idiot. This is West Philadelphia.
Starting point is 01:09:29 By the way, fuck Spencer. What the fuck are you doing? You approach a van, a man in a van with an open door, like what, what are you saying? Have you not? You want me to help you move a mattress? Yeah, help me move a mattress. But I really, I really did at the end of the day
Starting point is 01:09:44 because it really seems to, like, set up a world in which Josh Hartnett is some sort of saw-level puzzle-chaos-like monster, but I just never knew what he was up to. I never knew what the pieces were about. I wish I had more insight into the mind of the madman, not just the fact that, boy, does he seem like he's a great dad.
Starting point is 01:10:07 And he wants to show people that they're not whole. Yeah. By putting holes in them. Yeah. I mean, I think that also what I wanted from the movie was I wanted Riley to be in danger at some point. Like, I wanted to see what he would do then. But not only was Riley not in danger at some point. Like, I wanted to see what he would do then. But not only was Riley not in danger,
Starting point is 01:10:28 the movie really only is letting you understand that Josh Hartnett is in danger, right? And all the time he's away from his daughter, you're like, actually good. It might be good for Riley that he is just, like, constantly being like, I left my credit card at the t-shirt stand, I have to go back.
Starting point is 01:10:46 She's like, you're acting weird. She does call it out a lot. How could you not? My favorite moment, it's a small moment because he's losing his shit. And when that thing comes out of the floor, and he's like, hey, hey, you wanna, Should we go down there?
Starting point is 01:11:03 Wanna go down there, you wanna go in this thing? And then she's like, she's like, hey, hey, you wanna... Should we go down there? You wanna go down there? You wanna go in this thing? And then she's like, she's like, the fuck? Yeah. I was like, yeah, there could be costumes down there. Yes, there could be costumes down there. Costumes and props. The craziest thing is, yes, he pitches like we could look at a costume cage. But the wildest part of that is at that point,
Starting point is 01:11:24 the stairs have like descended all the way down there. Like it's just an open pit. And she looks at him like, everything okay, buddy? Like, what the fuck is going on? And when it closes back up, he looks at it like, oh. Like he's doing, he's doing, it's like one of the times when he does
Starting point is 01:11:40 like multiple eyebrow work. Yes. His eyebrows are like beep, beep, beep, work. Yes. His eyebrows are like beep-boop-beep-boop-beep-boop. His eyebrows are doing a lot. He's got full control of those brows. I loved it. I loved it. I loved it.
Starting point is 01:11:55 But again, that was the promise of the movie where I was like, well, at some point they're going to get underneath the stage, right? Nope. I wished I wanted them to go under there and get to those costumes. Yeah, I wish I guess there was a better way out of the stadium that was more fulfilling after all that. Yes, for them to get to the point where he's like, so I'm the butcher.
Starting point is 01:12:14 Yeah, right. Hey, Lady Raven, I'm the fucking butcher bitch. Put us in your limo. Who has a stretch limo in 2024? Who? I was going to say, like, our young pop stars, like, I want a stretched limo, old school. I want a Lincoln town car like I want Ronnie the limo driver. She should be on a tour bus.
Starting point is 01:12:34 Again, she's irresponsible traveling. She's got to be in Atlanta. But I truly think this movie does not work at all. And it does. It does, despite everything that's been said tonight, without Josh Hartner. I mean, well, this is a good question. Without a doubt.
Starting point is 01:12:49 I think that Josh Hartner, I think actually everybody is very good in it. I love the daughter. Yes. Would you recommend this movie? Would you recommend it? Absolutely. 100%, yeah. Oh, absolutely, yes. 10 times down.
Starting point is 01:12:59 I will say that not only will I recommend this movie, I will say that this movie has retroactively made me understand M. Night Shyamalan. I'm like, oh, I get this movie. I will say that this movie has retroactively made me understand M. Night Shyamalan I'm like, oh I get it now like I've been like fuck old. Oh that movie is weird. I get it all I'm like he's playing another like he's like, what do you think of this? Uncle I like it I Like what's that thing like my uncle's weird now. I'm like, my uncle's really funny. You just don't get him.
Starting point is 01:13:27 That's how I feel about M. Night now. I'm like, I get it. And now the world's. I wish he'd killed the other girl's mom. Yes! I want, I wish, I wish. That's the thing is, he really doesn't kill anyone. He really doesn't kill anybody, and that's the thing.
Starting point is 01:13:47 We know he has killed, but we really don't see him really do any damage. So there's a part of... He named that girl at the hot dog stand. Oh, yeah, yeah, no, no. She's burned up, but you know, when they're wheeling her out, when they're wheeling her out, she's like, ah, ah, ah, ah, so she's gonna be fine.
Starting point is 01:14:04 Again, I want to say, I want to say iting her out, she's like, ah, ah, ah. Again, I want to just say. She's gonna be fine. Again, I want to say. Will she know? I want to say it's her fault, because when you see her. She looks at it for so long. She's like, ah, oil in the burning thing. Huh, let me give a fan vote. Have you ever been to the Philadelphia public school system? Do you think she knew?
Starting point is 01:14:18 She was in a fucking hot dog stand at a Philadelphia concert. She knows science. By the way, that's the cr- I know Abbott Elementary's doing a crossover with Always Sunny. I want to see the crossover with Trap. Make him run into that school for like a 15 minute.
