Hello, besties.
Happy Friday.
It's happy hour.
Viva Las Vegas.
That's right.
We're coming to you live air quotes from Las Vegas.
The three of us are together in Vegas this week for the HR Tech Conference.
So it has been a week, hasn't it ladies? Indeed, indeed.
Goodness. Vegas is very Vegas-y still. We've confirmed Vegas is Vegas. But we are all present
and accounted for and none of us is calling from the Las Vegas County Jail. So I'm going to count this as a success.
It's a win.
It is a win.
Because we bailed Jamie out just before this episode.
Yeah.
We rushed her.
If I remember the last couple of nights correctly,
I was in bed way before you ladies.
That is true.
That is true.
But yeah, Vegas is still Vegas in case anyone was curious.
But we have had a whirlwind week, right?
So it started with us having all sorts of travel fun, getting here and just like rolling
onto stage first thing Tuesday, which was so cool.
So cool.
I think I had like 30 minutes from airport
to stage, something crazy, delayed flight problems. But we did our first live podcast.
So it's been almost a year. HR Besties has been a thing. And we got to our first live
podcast. How cool was that?
It was awesome.
It was so surreal. You know, I know I told you all ladies, but Monday, the 30th of September will mark a
year since we all very met first time in person in Atlanta to record our first season.
So it's absolutely wild being in Las Vegas with you ladies now and like being on a stage
and people came to hear us.
Like what is this life?
It's just absolutely wild and I don't think
any one of the three of us thought that we would be here.
Of course, we wanted to be here,
but I don't think any of us would have.
I just was definitely having a pinch me moment while we were on stage.
Yeah. We got that live podcast in just right, right before that earmark, didn't we?
Yeah, we did.
And to your point, Jamie, like we just slid it in, you know, check bucket list.
We did it like a staff meeting, but we talked our hot topic for that one was, was about
finding joy at work. And it was a good conversation. And, you know, people are like, are we going
to hear it? Little bit of question on that, you know, like a. And yeah, you know, people are like, are we going to hear it? Little bit of question on that.
You know, like a lot of things, you know, in HR, pretty much any job, you know, sometimes
you have to pivot and go with the punches.
And sometimes the punches are a little bit of some AV challenges on whether that got
recorded, which is probably, which is probably for the best because we were a little unhinged.
Yeah, but that's normal.
That's the bullshit part of business and bullshit.
That's for sure.
But it's funny because things like that, I don't get embarrassed.
Like I'm just like, okay, the mic's still not working.
Oh, okay, let me use another mic.
Oh, okay.
But like I'm so like used to corporate IT drama.
Like no butterflies, no nerves at all.
It's like, oh, this mic doesn't work.
Can I get a mic that works?
Oh, this doesn't work.
Like it was just like, oh my God.
But we have dedicated fans and shout out to them.
We do, we do.
You know, a packed audience there all fantastic
and just like sticking it out with us
because they were all shaking their heads.
Yes, the technology never works.
Yes.
It was funny.
I was like signaling to the guy.
I'm trying to use like signals for like try a different mic.
And I don't know actually the sign for that.
And so I'm trying to like jerk my hand up and down and like do the thing.
And he's like shaking his head like he doesn't understand.
I don't understand.
I don't understand what this means. You're like, press another
button. You know, it was crazy. It was crazy. Smiling the whole time. But it is. It's like,
it's like HR life. No matter what you're doing, you have the same face for new hire orientation
or a layoff has to come bad news. We're oh, HR, can you send the message? We're not going to have
any pay raises this year. Okay, can you send it positively?
Well, maybe, okay, maybe.
Yep, we got it.
And so it's, you know, all stuffing down any other feeling, but just putting it out there
and it's life.
It's life.
It was total life.
Exactly.
Now to HR Tech, that's a conference, to their defense, we were the first session on that
stage.
And so you know how it is, like there's all these kind of quirks and kinks
you have to smooth out and whatnot, you know,
so we rolled with it, we made the best,
but for me the funnest part about that,
and y'all tell me y'all's fun part about it too,
but mine was that when we got to questions and comments,
guess what, we got to open it up to the folks in the audience
and they did have some questions and comments.
Then we're as salacious as I thought they could be, right? Because we didn't give them any
parameters. I was like expecting like, what's your favorite food? I don't know. But you know,
like personal questions, but it was nothing like that. It was a lot of positive comments
and that was beautiful. You know, what about y'all? What was your favorite part of the session?
I think for me, just being up there with you guys and like I said just having a total pinch me moment.
Like what is this life, you know?
Someone said you look like you're on the view. Like the visuals of it was...
Oh yeah, that was hilarious.
It was cool. Like we're on the view. No, I think it was true.
It was like having the questions and comments, but it's kind of funny because so we didn't have like a traveling my whatever.
And so when we were repeating, you know, also like good presenters or best practice to like
say, you know, someone says something, people can't hear them.
But it's kind of awkward when someone was like, you know, what you guys are doing is
awesome.
And people like, what did they say?
And I'm like, we are awesome.
What we're doing.
Yes.
Okay.
But that was pretty funny.
But it was awesome. It was great. But people coming up
and Jamie is definitely now a dress influencer because after her mishap and the dresses that
she ordered did not arrive. The ones she wore.
The Hong Kong dresses.
The Hong Kong dresses did not so much work out.
I did get a full refund though.
Oh, good. Yes. So shout out to
them because they they I do appreciate them because they
wanted they wanted photos and video of the dresses and how
they were not. So I literally just sent them my tick tock. And
so I think that might have something to do with my full
refund. But hey, that's all good because I got my money back.
Right. But instead you did look fabulous and you know Jamie wore like this sequin dress but it was a shedder. Oh my god yes. It was
one of those sequin glitter dresses at shed. We've all been there haven't we ladies? Oh my gosh like
she was leaving a trail of glitter. Literally. Exactly that's how I found my way back to my room
because Jamie was just away the same elevator bank. She was a floor below me. So I just followed the trail of
glitter and sparkles all the way back to the elevators. It was my, I told Jamie she's my
Gretel, my Hansel and Gretel. So yeah, like wherever she goes, she leaves sparkles, but
not on purpose because her dress is cheap. Right. I hate when they do that shit though
to us. I know. I'm going to be returning that dress too, but hey,
for $30, it worked. It worked. You look good. You look good.
What's 2FA security on Kraken? Let's say I'm captaining my soccer team, and we're up by a
goal against, I don't know, the Burlington Bulldogs. Do we relax? No way. Time to create
an extra line of defense and protect that lead. That's like 2FA on Kraken. A surefire way to keep

So we didn't have any
wardrobe malfunction. So that's fantastic. But the stage setup was
built for wardrobe malfunction, because it was like this high top
table, like as if you're at a bar and then three bar stools. You know
what I mean? We're, you know, Jamie and I are wearing dresses, you
know, and so the camera guy's like, can you ladies be careful?
So he was like, coaching us, it's like, yes,
we know how to close our legs,
even though we went to a state school.
Like, I'm not gonna keep my legs wide open,
like, sir, come on.
Right, I'm not a man on a train.
I mean, come on, on the subway.
I know, I'm not man spreading.
Yeah, I mean, come on, you know.
But we had a great time, we took lots of selfies, right, or essays, people were mean, come on, you know, but we had a great time. We took
lots of selfies, right or essays, people were coming up
and chatting, you know, so we certainly appreciate that when
people when people do that, you know, and we just get to have a
little conversation. We are human people that do HR like you,
you know, and we work in the workplace like you do, you know,
we can always come and, and shoot the shit with us about work, you know, and we work in the workplace like you do, you know, we can always come and,
and shoot the shit with us about work, you know, love it.
It was good.
We had a meet and greet, which is another wild thing.
Yes, yes, another highlight, another highlight of the event.
Talk about it, Ashley, how was the meet and greet?
So it was good.
So it was with UKG.
So it was during the happy hour.
And so we had our happy hour drinks and they created some merch that made these like
cute notebooks and we're giving them away and we're doing pictures and stuff like that at their
booth and it's like right in the front. And so it's just, it's like, it's just, again, totally
surreal, but it's fun because then we got to like really talk to people and take pictures and just
have the conversations. And it was, that was, that was awesome. What What do you think? Yeah. Yeah. Shout out to UKG.
I mean, for real, such great hosts.
And I wish that was really, really neat.
You know, people coming by and, you know, and getting that branded swag.
You know, so that was that was that was really cool.
They definitely made me feel special.
Well, it was funny because we went to like a, you know, a number of different
like events and things like that.
I mean, like conference type things. You kind of bebop around.
And you forget when you're at these conferences,
like where's this event?
It's kind of like in a hallway.
It's like in front of you can kind of get drinks
from this thing, but it's people mingling.
But the funny thing was people, one of them,
they're like, God, people came up and they're like,
oh my God, literally all night.
I'm like, God, they're so familiar.
They must be on our sales team.
And they're like, we just realized we knew you all from social media.
We just could not place where it was.
And so.
Yeah, a lot of that, right?
And us as content creators, of course, we see a lot of other content creators, or know
of them.
And the same thing, you're walking down the expo hallways and you're like, how do I know
that person?
Did we go to school together? You're thinking that, and they're like, oh wait,
I just saw them on a video on LinkedIn or something,
you know, like it was kind of those,
like I know that face, I know that face, I know that face.
Or you might see, so we were walking
and like we were leaving for the day yesterday
and walking out and someone is walking towards me
in the conference and I was like, oh my God,
it's Blake Lewis from American Idol.
Oh yes. Oh yes. And then was like, oh my God, it's Blake Lewis from American Idol. Yeah. Yeah.
And you all don't know who he is, which everybody should.
But he was the beatboxer.
I mean, this was probably 2007, let's say.
But he was a beatboxer and was on American Idol.
I watch his videos all the time.
Like two weeks ago, I'd seen the beatbox video.
And he's coming at me.
But I say, oh my God, hi Blake.
And he smiles like, hi, do I know you?
And I just kept on walking. Didn't stop further. And And immediately like Lee and Jamie, like, who is that? And I'm
like, Blake, Blake Lewis. Well, you're like, I think it's Blake. You're like, let me verify though,
right? And you pull his social, pull him up on social. And then I'm like, that is him. And then
I was like, let's go find him. Like, oh, we're like, let's go. So we try to stop them in the expo.
We did. We tried to find him, but to no avail.
He had a guitar, so we thought he was at work day because they have the rock star theme.
Was not there.
We looked all over.
We were sad.
We were like, all right, let's like Jamie, Lee.
I mean, they're like, we got to find him and we didn't.
And so, so sad.
And then later in the evening, I was again in a hallway and Lee had run in to do something.
And so, I was just sitting there on a bench and who
comes at me? Blake Lewis. Oh my gosh. I love that. I'm so glad you got to meet him.
It was funny. He was like, Hey, and he was like, I don't think anyone has ever approached another
human ever with the level of enthusiasm I had. And he's like, you remind me of my best friend,
but like different, different color hair. And he's like, did we meet last year had. He's like, you remind me of my best friend, but different
color hair. He's like, did we meet last year? I was like, mm-mm, never met. He's like, I
thought I must have known. He was performing at another thing, another vendor's booth.
He does songs on demand. People will be like, oh, I'm Jamie from Murfreesboro. Like, oh, so anyway, so that was cool.
But so I got so we put them, we put them, we'll put them again on the Instagram.
But so I got it with my favorite American Idol ever.
Yes, I did a little video for y'all, you know, because then I came back around to meet back
up with you and I'm like, there he is.
Like I was so excited for you, you know.
So you got your video, you got your fan moment with Blake.
So that's nice. It was good. Any other conference highlights for you, you know. So you got your video, you got your fan moment with Blake, so that's nice.
It was good. Any other conference highlights for you ladies?
The silence is so loud. I know the silence is loud. Well, no, I'm like, it's just fun. But it's,
but it's like, you know, any conference you laugh is like, you can tell it's a conference and it's
like kind of corny, like there's people with the shirts and all that it's great we love it and unfortunately um ashley and i are going to have
to leave a little early from the conference because uh there is a hurricane coming and
unfortunately our flights are affected so uh ashley and i are gonna have to head out here in a little bit. I know. I'm bummed.
You know, I know nothing like, you know, high winds.
Only high winds can stop us from.
So, yeah, so just check the local
chair of support for the for the distance.
Lee will be unsupervised.
Oh, I know, I know.
I'll have to get in some sort of trouble, of course, you know.
But but great conference. You know, for me, a highlight was running into, of course, hanging out with you all,
first and foremost, but other creators that I'm friends with, other, you know, folks in the
corporate world that I'm friends with, you know, so I got to do some late nights, happy hours with
some people. I mean, I've been going to bed at 3 a.m. this whole week.
I know, and I was just in Vegas last week, so this introvert's gonna have to detox for
about a month.
You know, that's how that works.
But thank you.
Meanwhile, Jamie was in bed at 630 last night.
Oh my gosh.
Yeah.
But thank you HR Tech.
Shout out for having us as speakers.
We certainly appreciate that.
And it won't be our live, our last live podcast, hopefully.
You know, so we've really enjoyed that.

So current events, Ashley, you posted something that got a lot of DMs and a lot of feedback and texts and all of that. Tell everybody in, catch us up with the current events.
So this week's Wednesday episode was on investigations 101 best practices. And we
got a lot of feedback about that. People like, oh, that was really, really helpful.
And so if you didn't listen to that one, have that one share all the things.
But but really to try to like bring more light and human aspect
to those investigations.
But so speaking of that, you know, this P.
Diddy, everything going on with P.
Diddy, which he is, he's a slick guy, literally.
Well, he literally is literally a slick. Because if you saw part of this,
is that P. Diddy, as part of all the charges and things against him, one of the things noted was
that he had like a thousand jar bottles of baby oil at his house. Allegedly for these very different
parties, but the point is a thousand. So his lawyer came out and said, well, he had those,
but because he buys in bulk like
average Americans like to do.
Which I've never seen a box of a thousand baby bottles at Costco.
But I said, that is some workplace investigation shit.
If you've ever had an investigation and people come up with this, they try to give you that
because it's not generally the crime, it's the coverup that people try.
People think you're a fucking idiot.
Well, I don't have a thousand bottles of anything
No in my house nor have I ever and I would dare to say that even like the extreme couponers
Probably don't have a thousand bottles of like game laundry detergent. So I don't know what average American that is
Yeah, so I don't I don't think that statement's true. Yeah, especially for our global listeners, I would just like to let you know,
no average American has a thousand bottles of baby oil.
And it's one thing to buy toilet paper and bulk that up because we're all wiping our asses.
But baby oil, that's not a thing you buy in bulk, not even with babies.
No.
But if you're all listening, laughing, thinking about the times,
you may have done an investigation or review, depending on the terminology use, but the stuff people will
say to you as like an explanation for things and you're like, that's okay. Well, I buy
in bulk. What have you all heard? Does anything come to mind? Like, you know, what have you
all heard? I've got one. You got one, Jamie.
I saw you kind of a light bulb moment.
Oh, I mean, I was just going to make a comment about the P diddy thing.
Oh, so all I was going to say is you're not going to see me post any P diddy memes.
Like I'm not going to create any just because, frankly, if you look into anything about the
allegations, they're disgusting.
And so, yes, I realize that's funny,
but that's one thing as me as a memer will not do.
Same thing with like the political election,
like the election, I won't post anything political either.
And I can laugh at the P-Diddy stuff,
but you will not see me posting it.
So I apologize in advance, but it will not happen for me.
Plenty of others on the interwebs.
Yeah, exactly.
You can go to any other meme page
and probably find P Diddy memes.
Will you stay true to your brand?
My pages are my babies and I just can't.
That's too gross.
Yeah.
But you lay, you got a workplace.
Well, yeah, the one that popped into my mind,
cause you told me that last night at the bar, remember like you had pulled that
up, look at those or whatever it was. Yeah.
I was like, that's an HR ship right there.
And instantly I was thinking about this one guy, you know,
this was in a unionized environment and I was a labor relations rep and, you know,
he had had like 10 occurrences or tardies, whatever, and he
was late again. And so on this one really needed to be a term. And he made up this whole
story about how his house got struck by lightning. It burned down.
I mean that-
You told this story on this week's episode. No, I for real. Oh my God. Yeah. So for that one, though.
That turned out to not be true.
Yeah, I don't doubt it. Yeah.
You know, like that was the one where he was doing he was doing the crying.
And it's like, I was like, OK, and I gave him the bye or whatever.
No, that was the excuse he had given.
And it was like this long winded story and like this house was flooded.
And I mean, just all the drama, right. It was like completely affected winded story and like this house was flooded and I mean just all the drama right it was like completely affected by this storm none of
that was true.
I think especially me later like my 21 years I'm so jaded when people tell me something
but you were early in your career.
Literally first year.
And I was too and we're naive and we have empathy and we we want to like feel bad and we care. I mean, yeah, yeah, of course.
Yes. And so for him to take advantage of you like that is
gross. Oh, but it was this whole story. I know I didn't get all
that about everything about his house and the insurance. I mean,
it was like just this law. Oh my god, it was totally dry. And
none of that was real. So it was like buying in bulk, you know, the things people
will say, you know. So I love to trust but verify now. That's what I really learned.
That's the lesson I learned my first year. Geez. Oh my god.
Yes, that's I love that. I love that.
It's a good lesson. I once had in an investigation where we'd seen some of them that was doing something
that was very, very much against corporate, very much against a policy for something.
And there were videos of it online.
And so I screen recorded those videos because later on the person tried to have those deleted
with the screen recordings to show them.
And so that was a trust or verify situation.
So I'll say that.
I've had a lot of those, right?
Where you just like they totally deny.
But you have the film.
I had the footage from the cops.
That's when the silence comes in.
That's when the silence comes in.
No, I saw you on the news.
Literally, your mug shot's online.
What?
Then they're doing the service, get it removed.
I know.
Oh my god, it's a thing.
That made me think of workplace investigations.
So sometimes.
No, and we had plenty of DMs this morning when I opened it up.
I was like, oh my goodness, people were like, yep,
too relatable.
Buy in bulk, buy in bulk. Oh gosh. Well, ladies, it's been a great week in Vegas. I hope it's
not our last live podcast. That was so much fun. You all rocked it. We rocked it. Good
trip, but safe travels. Y'all have to run. Y'all got things to do.
You gotta beat that storm, you know?
And gotta get there before the windows.
That's right.
Exactly.
Be safe to people.
Yes, be safe everybody.
And give grace and space to those team members
that are gonna be trying to deal with life stuff.
Work will be there next week, but just remember.
Exactly.
Enjoy the weekend, besties!
