One, go.
Enjoy the show.
Hey, guys, and welcome to the Joe Rogan Experience Review podcast.
Joined as always by my co-host Pete. How you doing buddy? I'm doing well. I see
you're on the road there. We're on the road. We're on the road. So, you know, I don't know
exactly where the audio will be at with this, but I think the equipment is good enough. It'll be
tolerable. You know, there will be a few weeks like this, where I've got to
use kind of different recording equipment just because it's a bit of a monstrosity just
kind of pulling it out Airbnb wise, you know, to mess.
Yeah, like, like,
exactly. When you're on the road, you got to adjust. Sometimes you got to pee in a jug.
The old trucker trick. Pee in a jug.
All right. Who we got this week on the JRE? We got Sam Morell.
Yeah, he's funny dude. I like it. I like his style. I haven't seen him live personally. I don't
believe.
It seems like he sticks to like the East Coast and then does a lot of bopping around the
nation like big shows.
Yeah, yeah. He's more of an East Coast guy. And because I was
primarily at the Comedy Store. You know, often those guys will
come through though, just not all the time. And didn't get a
chance to see him. But I've always liked his style. He's
they talked about it on this episode, he has a few recent
morning show appearances where he's just kind of like ripping
on the people in the station or just saying outrageous stuff. I love it when comics do that,
you know, any comic willing to do that is having some fun. I'm honestly very surprised the morning
shows have comedians on.
It just seems so risky.
Like, why would you do that?
They're wild cards a lot of times.
Yeah, but they're all hungover, most likely hungover.
For sure.
They got to get like 530 to get there.
Yes.
Yeah, it's Colin.
And then, you know, they're not going on stage until,
you know, probably seven o'clock that night.
It's a rough day, but you don't do stand up because it's easy.
Tell you that much.
You do it for the chicks.
You can do it for the drugs.
Everyone knows that.
Yeah, they do it so they don't have to lay bricks for a living.
But that's true. That's true.
That's true.
Um, it, it is kind of amazing though, that, that people get through it at all because
everyone has to go through those like horrific kind of bombing stages.
And then, you know, they're kind of like happening on and off for a long
time. And even when you're not necessarily bombing, it's not like you're getting paid
a ton of money. And then you're seeing all the comics that are like, probably pretty
good and well established on specific shows around town, but also are making a ton of
money. And then you're thinking, shit, am I going to end up like this?
It's the dropout rate is so huge that that's not massively encouraging either.
Um, it just kind of is, is really interesting that it must be primarily
the communities that you put together yourself within the stand-up world that gives
you the energy to keep going.
And then obviously a few wins here and there.
You might win a stand-up competition or just start getting invited to much better shows,
getting paid a little bit more. Those sorts of wins can kind of keep you going.
But yeah, what a grind.
I guess you kind of the best case scenario is like if you link up with a guy
like Adam Sandler, that's a huge, a huge guy.
That's a pretty small scenario that people hope for, but it is one of the ways
they get like Cat Williams takes you. It takes like 40 comedians with them when he
travels. So it's like, that's what you hope for something like that.
Yeah. Get in the right circles and, uh, and yeah. And like also big break
things like these days make sense, you know, to try and get on Kill Tony and maybe
not even as a standup. Like, um, no, I mean, not as an open mic, let's say you're a little
bit more developed as a comedian, but just not that well known, but you're funny. Then
go on Kill Tony as a panelist if you can. Obviously you got to get to know Tony a bit,
but I mean those shows that will probably do a lot more
for your comedy career than being on late night these days.
Yeah, I can't, I don't,
I don't even know anybody that watches late night,
those late night shows anymore.
Nobody should.
Yeah.
Honestly, I don't think I know how to tune into that.
I don't I'm all on.
I'm on YouTube and like Netflix.
I'm not on ABC and NBC and CBS, I guess.
Right.
And I think my parents watch those channels,
but they are in bed by nine.
They're not watching those things.
Yeah. Yeah, it is.
It is just kind of like a dying art, but still millions of people watch them, which is wild. You know,
people are still religiously tuning into like Jimmy Kimmel and,
um,
Colbert and they're just so bad.
The only time that I'll tune into them is if they have a really cool
guess, you know, if like a Keanu Reeves or Ricky Gervais goes on, I'm like,
oh yeah, what's this interview about?
But everything else they do is just like, leave it out.
The interviews are terrible.
So kitschy and like pand it out. The enemies are terrible.
So kitschy and like pandery and.
I don't know who what kind of blue hairs
they got right in those shows now, but it's just not for me.
So they can be for somebody else.
I should knock it.
Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's it's it's fine.
It exists. Right.
And people want to watch it. Great.
I don't want to ever like shut anything down like that.
But my point is I used to enjoy it. It used to be good. And it used to have value. Like people
would go on and promote their movie or their book or their stand up, you know, maybe they'd even do
a little bit of comedy and it would like make your career. Well, now it just doesn't do that.
It just doesn't have the push and they're honestly just trying to survive.
So it's a shame because it was an institution and now it's just kind of an embarrassment.
It's like, yeah, those hosts still make millions of dollars, but why?
Like they're just pandering to the advertisers with their Pfizer dances or whatever they're
up to.
Brought to you by Pfizer. They were so about that for so long.
Dude, I can't remember who had the cringiest thing. I think it might've been Colbert,
but then it also might've been Jimmy Fallon. It was like dancing syringes on stage.
Yeah, Colbert.
Was it Colbert?
It's so bad, dude.
I can't believe that guy just, he's just lost so much respect.
And it's not uncommon.
You talk to people that really love the Colbert report on Comedy Central.
I mean, I think most people agreed that that was one of the best satirical news shows ever made.
I watched it every time.
Every dude, it was so good.
And he was genius.
And then the late night happened.
And I remember watching the very first episode that he was on thinking that it would be just as good.
I was like, man, maybe he'd do Colbert on that.
That'd be amazing.
Nope.
He did miss the super liberal.
And I was liberal as hell then then I was like regular liberal guy.
And I'm like, this is so much worse than what he did with Colbert.
Like with the Colbert.
I loved how he was tongue in cheek.
He was full on playing a character of the right.
And I was all about it.
I was like, he's got these guys down at,
Oh yeah.
It's perfect.
Oh wait, he's making too much sense pretending.
And then, and then we see him act like he really wants to, and it's just not,
it's just smug, not likable and just, just not, uh, just totally disingenuous. This podcast is brought to you by DraftKings Casino.

You know, people still practice for it. You know, maybe it's, it's kind of worth it. But again, I think, I think kind of like the genre of entertainment has changed,
you know, uh, Shane Gillis and Adam Ray just did kill Tony recently and Shane
was Trump and his Trump is incredible.
And Adam Ray is making them And they both did an amazing job
commenting like throughout, just hilarious.
It's my favorite Kill Tony to date.
And there's just been so many bangers recently,
but it is one of the funniest ones I've seen
for a long time.
And again, Shane Gillis was incredible.
It's like that is gonna do so much more for their careers than anything they
could have done on late night or even SNL. I mean, it's difficult as it has been for Shane
to be canceled. And let's talk about this because Sam brings this up, like the whole cancel thing,
right? Shane gets canceled over something he said on a podcast. And it's like, guys, we're podcast.
It's relaxed and comedians.
But it was, I guess, so offensive as I now have to cancel.
But, you know, firing.
Well, how long later?
And he's bigger than us now.
Yeah. Yeah.
He's he's got more comedic timing and plain intelligence than that is exhibited in that whole show.
He was a treasure.
A hundred percent.
I mean, his show Tires, which is like six or eight episodes, I can't remember, all set
in like one building, you know, kind of like has that low-budget budget feel, but it's just hilarious.
Dude, every episode was better than anything that I've seen from SNL
for a few years, for sure.
It's another one of those shows where if I see somebody I like,
I just watch the clips on YouTube.
I don't I don't care to wrap my day around getting getting it.
Yeah, I'm surprised it's honestly still on because who is tuning in
for like what, how even late is it on like 11 o'clock on Saturday night?
Yeah. Who the hell is tuning in to watch them?
If I'm home, I'm asleep. If I'm up, I'm out partying buddy.
Hell yeah. Having a beer. We're not waiting for SNL and yeah.
And that's what you'll do. You'll just watch the clips, right?
Just watch them on YouTube a day or so later.
And I think ultimately like the comedians across the border winning, right?
With all of this.
It's like, you don't have to wait for SNL.
You don't have to wait for late night.
And you don't have to play this like TV bullshit
game. Now it's like just go on cool podcasts, hang out with Tim Dillon, legend. He's so funny.
He's so ridiculous. He might be a genius the way his mind is always working. Yeah.
He really crushes people too. I mean, what's a lot of fun about him is he had come out, you know, like something happened
in the news and he's number one, not only not afraid to talk about it, but he immediately
connect with Alex Jones and do a podcast.
I mean, I need to watch one of those. I need to watch one of those.
Yeah, he did one recently. What were they talking about? I think it was about the
assassination attempt. And Alex said some crazy things on that. Well, of course,
like he always does, but he was just like, Oh, they're gonna, they're gonna try
and kill Biden now. He's like, they come, they come for Trump. Now they're going to kill Biden.
Watch. And they're showing the world that they're in charge. They're making it very clear to
everyone that like, we're just take out whoever we want. And, and, you know, and I know it's,
I know these are just like, these are things he's saying that are very difficult to prove, if even if you
could. But it's one of those things where it's like, also, there is, if you like believing in
the potential of like a deep state thing, and you see these things happen so close together. It's like one Trump gets attempted assassination, right?
Within what?
Like a week, Biden is COVID and then stepping out of the race.
And now he have Kamala and it's like, wait a second.
Was there like an entire change?
And to be fair, it was clear that it was like, try and kill Trump.
I mean, the way he turned his head last second was just incredible luck.
I mean, really, he should be dead right now with that type of a shot.
And then it's like, with one president down and then Biden would have stepped out.
That's what if you believe in the conspiracy of it all,
that's what they were hoping to have created that whole.
But it was there's people trying to say it was all staged and like no way.
Bullets were going in front of his head, behind his head. Even the FBI made an announcement that they don't believe that a bullet nipped his ear.
Like the head of the FBI.
And then they had their medical team examine Trump and were like, oh yeah, he did get shot
in the ear.
It's like, what?
For someone to believe Trump, does he actually need to have his head blown off?
No, he was he was rocketing up in the polls.
And I think he's still up.
But it's, you know,
they will get into that one a little later, but it's
clearly some fishy stuff's going on with with with how they
rocketed Kamala to the top.
Yeah.
Yeah. We'll work on that one in our next special edition of little teaser.
We'll tease.
Yeah.
Um, so one thing that Sam has, he has his podcast, we might be drunk, which is
hilarious and he does that with Mark Norman, who also is absolutely brilliant. So one thing that Sam has, he has his podcast, We Might Be Drunk, which is hilarious.
And he does that with Mark Norman,
who also is absolutely brilliant.
I love it.
He's hilarious.
A lot of great clips from that podcast as well.
I don't think I've listened to a whole one.
Again, there's just too many shows,
too many good shows to listen to.
But there's been a lot of great clips from that one.
And he has another one where he co-hosted with an NFL guy, Julian Edelman.
I don't even know who that is.
Yeah, former wide receiver.
I think he was pretty good.
Yeah, games with names.
So yeah, check out that one.
But again, it podcasts and collaborations, right?
It's like, the ball is really in the court of the world of comedy now.
And you know, I mean, it really just starts with like, you want to get on a Rogan show
once or twice a year, once a year is probably enough just to show that you're like really relevant in
that space and cool with him. And then the rest of the time,
just show up to kill Tony's go up to the clubs and, and get on,
get on the other, um, comedians podcast. You know, you want to get on Theos,
probably get on.
Who really else does interviews?
I mean, get those Bobby Lee
with with that other redheaded fellow.
Oh, Sanfino.
Yeah, they have they have a pretty popular one.
I'm not sure if they do interviews.
They generally interview like only fans, girls, right?
Or something like that.
Well, they they have like weird YouTube people on sometimes they,
they have had other people on though, you know, cause they like to mix it up.
And then they also talk to them each other. So that would be a good one.
Another one I really liked is Dana Carvey and David Spade have one and I like
theirs because it's like every time it's comedy history and
they had Nick Schwartzman's on and he is he's gold too especially in that setting.
He's some of his movies are hit and miss for me but his he's funny.
He's a very funny comedian very funny comedian.
There's a cool set from back in the day, before Kill Tony was at the
mothership and they had some great panelists. I think David Tell was there. Who else?
Who's Sam Love, by the way? Sam is a David Tell guy.
Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah. I mean, really, who isn't if you're a stand up purist. But I think I think David Tell was on that.
Anyway, Nick goes up with like a hoodie on and a hat.
So you can't tell it's him.
And he goes up under like a different name and does a minute
like you would on Kill Tony.
And it's fucking brilliant.
And then he roasts all the comedians up there like nice very quickly and bad
I mean he crushes them and it just goes to show like the level of talent because
Even comics that are very well known and have a lot of experience would not like to do that
Like I think Joe would struggle doing a one minute kill Tony set.
I mean, I don't want to give him a hard time.
Like obviously if he spent some time and wrote for it and practiced it,
you know, I'm sure he can pull it off, but it is very difficult.
It's difficult than how a lot of these guys do it.
And I would imagine Nick worked on that for like a day. And he's got that
stuff in his chamber. Exactly. I mean, if it was like a random Kill Tony one minute from just,
you know, any old person that would go up on stage, it would have become a golden ticket.
It was that funny. I mean, he crushed it. It's brilliant. Yeah, I'll put a link to that and then the bio so you
guys can you guys can watch it. Yeah, Nick hilarious. And he's
always good to have on podcasts. He likes to do the do the
circuit on podcasts. I don't know if he has his own one
though. If he doesn't, he should go.
I imagine he would probably.
Yeah, he'll probably jump on the bandwagon there.
For sure. For sure.
So anyway, cancel culture stuff, right?
So they hit Sam because he made some joke.
What was his joke about?
Was it about he?
Well, wasn't he?
I mean, why he got 86 from a nightclub?
Yeah. And then and then I think some
writer was coming at him for
some.
I know that he was banned from hyenas
because he made fun of their logo,
which is like a like Joe
Campbell style hyena.
And the owner was like,
we don't want that energy in our in our
and our universe here, your band.
And.
Like, come on, babe, he's he does dick jokes for a living.
Let him work.
Let the man work.
Let's go on that note on canceling.
It seems like the,
that's one thing universally that a lot of people are
agreeing on is it's just silly to cancel people for statements
that are, you know, it's one thing if it's like horrendous
statements about, you know, type of people or, you know, you
know, sexual assault or something, but it's just not
that generally people are getting canceled for.
Right. So Ricky Gervais talks about it all the time and Bill Maher also is talking about it. So
we got kind of some extreme sides of thinking that are agreeing that it's this retarded to
cancel people for saying retarded. Okay. Right. Yeah. I mean, what does it really like
it has its own value? You know, um, for example, Mr. Beast, I don't know if you heard about
Mr. Beast is like the biggest YouTuber in the world. Oh yeah. And recently his like
right hand man who is now a gal is, you know, was texting young boys and it was inappropriate
and really quite disturbing.
So he's done.
That's valid.
She's done.
Yeah.
Cancel out.
However, they're going after Mr. Beef and trying to cancel him.
Now, if he knew and it was blatant that he knew and he was like going along with
it and kind of grooming it, you know, but they will need to be some significant evidence
for that.
Um, I don't think it's, I, I don't think Mr. Beast deserves to get canceled for that, but
also he maybe look at the warning signs. A little bit of a hundred percent.
Yeah.
And this is not transphobia.
We're not being transphobic here.
He was a criminal.
He's that's criminal and it canceled.
Yeah.
He's not getting canceled because he was trans.
He's getting canceled because he was basically through text trying to set up having sex with a 14 year old boy.
Multiple.
Yeah, that's not good.
It is unfortunate that there is one of those video, what do they call it, thumbnails, where
Mr. Beast and the title is, I locked my best friend in a room with a hundred children or a hundred kids for like
a day or I don't know what the whole, the thumbnail was, but it was an unfortunate one.
It didn't age well.
That's not gonna age well.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, you know, there is like, there is a required pushback, I think that that is reasonable
where where you know, the system is kind of policing itself
where you're like, Hey, hey, this a bit much. You know, it's
like, maybe the Louis CKs of the world can get away with what
they did. They take a break, come back a few years later,
say sorry, sorted out, you know, however, you know, the break, come back a few years later, sort it out.
You know, however, you know, the cause of these of this world need to be hammered
and hammered hard.
Even though he was in prison, they let him out of prison.
You know, not, yeah, he's, he's just, he's just resting on his multi-millions
and unbelievable.
And, and it's not facing up to it. You can imagine that his ego was so huge that he doesn't believe he did anything
wrong to those women.
No, I heard Weinstein is probably getting out too.
Harvey, he needs to stay in there.
Yeah. It's just another kind of bullshit legal thing that they got wrong.
And you know, if you file a thing the wrong way or
blah, blah, blah, it's like, we shouldn't be letting these guys off either. But again, like,
what are we doing canceling people over jokes? It's like, you've just got to stop with that.
It's ridiculous. It's happening. The pushback is happening, and that's the problem with these blanket cancelings.
Then the ones that are valid,
they they seem less valid because if you're going to cancel
Shane for like, you know, some silly Asian jokes five years ago.
It's just like, oh, well, what else wasn't wasn't is did we
jump the gun about? Right?
Anyways,
no, it's very true. It's very true. They also touched a
little bit on on like mental health and coping mechanisms.
You know, it's always good to get Joe's kind of feedback on
It's always good to get Joe's kind of feedback on elements like this, because I think that Joe struggles to...
He doesn't really relate too well with people that are just kind of depressed and down on themselves and bummed out.
And in those, he sees it all as just like a process of thinking.
It's like, oh, as soon as you start talking like
that or thinking like that, you know, you probably not working out enough, probably
not eating well, you're probably hanging out with negative people. Like he has a whole
system for what keeps him functioning very effectively. And, you know, and, and often people might say, well, it's very like bro
way of doing it, but it's a tried and true, like process, you know, working out is very
good for your mental health. And even if you have to be like pretty obsessed about it,
it's like less of a dangerous obsession to have.
You know, let's say you're working out all the time
and you're like an obsessed person about working out,
that can be seen as its own kind of mental problem.
However, it's a lot less bad than someone
who's not doing it and is like chronically depressed.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, it's a way to really
snap yourself out of that cycle.
Yeah.
I think that on on Sam's note,
he's a drinker.
He does these these to the point
where it's affecting his stomach health.
Right. He has all his ulcers and whatnot.
And he's trying to negotiate with the doctors.
He's like, well, I have this podcast called we might be drunk. I have to drink the whole time. So that like that is that's problematic.
Oh, yeah, no, 100%. I mean, you know, and this kind of the thing with Rogan too is because we know he likes drink sponsored by Buffalo Trace. He's always slamming Bud Lights on the Protect Our Parks,
and he has cocktails at his club. And I will bet that if you ask Joe, what is the one area of your
life with all of your habits and processes that you would like to maybe adjust a little bit more in kind of
like the healthy positive direction.
I wouldn't be surprised if alcohol is the thing, not saying that he drinks too much,
you know, or even maybe feels like he does, but the knockout one drink from each of your
kind of drinking night adventures would go a long way.
And ultimately you're not losing a lot, right?
It just keeps up on people.
Yeah.
Where's you out?
And, and it's a tricky one for standups, I think, because, you know, it's just one
of those instant, um, response coping mechanisms.
You feel a bit down. You have a few beers for a very short period of time, it kind of
like lifts you out of that state.
Sadly, it gets you right back in that state again and worse.
And, and yeah, it's a bit of a mess, but, but the stomach ulcers, once that starts happening,
you really need to slow down.
I think. Yeah, it's.
It kills your fauna or your flora.
I don't know which it kills.
It kills the good stuff in your belly and helps the bad stuff proliferate.
That's what happened to him, I think.
Oh, you haven't known anybody.
Have you ever known anybody with the ulcer?
I think my sister used to get him, but not in a while. Yeah, thankfully.
