Welcome to Wednesday One Chots, the series where we share a bonus story with you to help
you get through the week.
This week, we have a story by a listener named Arella.
This happened to me and my friends. We were freshman in high school
and adjusting to being at a big high school. See, we came from a small town, so we weren't very
street smart. We've encountered minor problems in the past, but nothing else quite like this.
One summer day, I decided to go for a walk around town with my best friend Hannah and our friend
Trenton. We decided to stop by our local Dollar Tree. We wanted to buy some cheap squirt guns and
some poppers. After making our purchases, we walked to a nearby park in a sketchy part of town
to meet some of the other friends. On our way there, we shot the squirt guns at passing cars while throwing
poppers. Trenton was throwing poppers in the street while Hannah was spraying a few cars
that drove past us. I was giggling along carelessly, not expecting that an accident was about to
occur. A small tan car sped past us while Trenton was still mindlessly throwing poppers on the road.
One of the poppers hit a small tan car.
Trenton cautiously watched the car pass because he didn't realize what he did right away.
He was waiting to see if they were going to react, and they did.
The car made a quick, sharp, you turn.
Trenton said, oh man, they're turning around, run.
Hannah and I didn't even see him hit the car.
We didn't know what was going on, so we turned to look back at what he was talking about.
As the car was heading back towards us, my fighter flight kicked in and I chose flight.
Hannah and I hauled it into somebody else's yard and positioned ourselves
behind a big tall planter as the car came to a screeching halt. Trenton was 5'6 and
300 pounds, so Hannah and I felt pretty safe with him. He was on the street, talking with
the three dudes in the car while we stayed hidden. We were watching the interaction, and
we saw Trenton put his hands up as he was trying
to reason with them.
These three guys in the car were cussing at him.
They told him not to mess with them again.
Trenton said, sorry man, it was an accident, it won't happen again, I promise.
The car sped off, then Hannah and I hopped out from behind our hiding place.
We approached Trenton who was physically
shaking. I had never seen this guy so shake in up in my life. He told us that the three men in
the car had a gun drawn and pointed at him with a finger on the trigger, ready to shoot.
We knew that we were being jerks, but the reaction these guys had was so extreme.
I wanted to share this story to remind others to be careful when goofing around with your
friends.
Sometimes something that's unexpected or out of your control can happen, and you never
know how somebody will react to that.
So to the guys who aimed a gun, ready to shoot one of the sweetest people I know, let's
not meet.
Thank you for listening and thank you to Aurela for sending in that story. If you have a story to share, make sure you send it to Let's Not Meet Stories at gmail.com and we'll take a look.
