Cross-town LRT train testing is in progress. Please be alert, as trains can pass
at any time on the tracks. Remember to follow all traffic signals, be careful
along our tracks and only make left turns where it's safe to do so. Be alert, be aware, and stay safe.
Welcome to Wednesday One Shots, the series where we share a bite-size bonus story with you
to help you get to the week.
This time around we have a story by a listener named Ravenclaw Girl.
I live in a town that's not super small, but also not quite a city.
I live in the busier part of this town.
My parents decided to go out for the evening, and my sister wasn't home, so I was left
at the house by myself
with our dog.
I was sitting in the living room watching the vampire diaries, as I always do, and I
was getting a bit hungry, so I got up to make myself a sandwich.
We have a dog door for our dog that comes from outside and enters into our living room.
I heard the dog door flap open and then closed.
Without thinking too much of it, I didn't look away from my unmade sandwich. I just figured
that it was my dog going outside. Then, very quickly after, I heard the doggy door open
and close again. This was pretty irregular for my dog. This got my attention, so I turned around to face the
living room. I saw a hand reaching inside of my house through the doggy door. The hand
was feeling around the back of the door trying to find the lock. I began to panic, I realized
that my dog was still in my room. I quietly walked down the hall to my room, making sure to keep my eyes on that
doggie door the entire time. I opened my bedroom door, and I let my dog out. I then grabbed
my sister's softball bat, and sat facing the doggie door.
The hand continued to creep its way up under the flap. I quietly stood up, trying my best,
not to cry, or make any noise. Then, with no warning
to the intruder, I swung the bat as hard as I could, smashing into their hand. I heard a yell
followed by the sound of footsteps running away. I went back to my room and I cried for the rest
of the night. I never told anyone, not even my sister or my parents. Needless to say,
I never told anyone, not even my sister or my parents. Needless to say, I never called the police either, even though I should have.
So to this stupid person that tried to come into my house and do God knows what, you better
hope that we don't meet, or you won't be walking away this time.
Thank you to Ravenclaw Girl for sharing your story.
