Welcome to Wednesday One Shots the series where we share a bite-sized bonus story with you
to help you get through the week, this time we have a story from a listener named Wolf
Moon 77.
One morning, I woke up around 8 as I usually do.
I grabbed my laptop for school and everything about the day just went as normal.
My daily routine consisted of school, chores, hanging out with friends, and sleep, and then
repeat.
After school on this day, I didn't have any chores to do, as I took care of them
on the previous day, so I went straight to my friend's house after school. I was walking
alone and reading a book. I read quickly, so I could fit in reading a chapter or two during
my walk to the friend's house. I did this all the time, but this time the walk didn't feel normal.
I felt like I was being watched.
The feeling of being watched is not normal for me at all.
This is something I rarely feel because I have just a few close friends and we usually
don't attract too much attention, which I like.
I essentially feel like I'm in the shadows. When this feeling of being
watched came over me, I looked around and saw no one. No cars, nothing. I didn't see anything
out of the ordinary. As I was getting closer to my friend's house, I didn't think much of this
feeling and brushed it off. That is until a car pulled around the corner. My first thought was, it's just a car.
I see cars in this area all the time. It's a popular neighborhood. The car slowed down
and started to follow me. I put the book that I was reading away and I grabbed a knife
that I always kept on me, just in case I needed it. I didn't want to endanger my
friend or anyone for that matter, but I felt like I had to do something, so I stopped and
stood there to see what the car would do. The car stopped as well, and I turned to
look as this man got out of the passenger seat. I began to run away with my knife.
Probably not the best move, but it was all I could think of to do on the spot.
I don't know what would have happened if I didn't move, and I'm glad that the first
thing that came to mind was to run because this guy came after me.
He caught up to me.
I turned to him, and I held up the knife and said very firmly, don't come any closer."
He didn't listen.
Now, I was barely a teenager.
He approached me, and attempted to grab me, so I stabbed him in the hand and ran.
I tripped as I was running away, and I cut my leg, but I quickly got up and tried my
best to keep running.
Thankfully, somebody knew that I was got up and tried my best to keep running.
Thankfully, somebody knew that I was outside, and they called 911.
The guy saw the person on the phone and knew what they were doing, so they took off.
I don't know if my split-second decision made the situation worse or saved my life,
but thanks to my friend's neighbor, I'm still here. So to the guy in the car, let's not meet again.
