Hey folks, Aaron here.
Welcome to Deeper Lore, a short bonus episode designed to be a topical guide to the most
recent episode of Lore.
So with Deeper Lore, my goal is simple.
There are a ton of episodes in the Lore catalog, which makes it hard to track down specific
ones, even for me.
Seriously, I have a spreadsheet of all of them and I still have to search for keywords
to find what I'm looking for.
So that's where deeper lore comes in.
If this week's new episode reminded you of a past one on a similar topic, then this bonus
episode is designed to point you in the right direction.
To that end, this week's new lore, 254 Remnants, is all about a place called York, Pennsylvania.
And let me say upfront, I think location episodes are some of my favorites.
I'm not sure exactly why, but I suspect it has something to do with how fluid and transitory
most folklore tends to be.
So anchoring a bit of it down to a specific place, like a town or a city or even a building,
almost helps make it more real, more approachable.
I mean, you could go visit these places.
So many of our location episodes feature hotels too, which means that if you're a road tripper,
you could even go sleep in the exact rooms we discuss.
It's fun.
I remember the first time I walked into the Mount Washington Hotel, years after I had
written and released the lore episode about it.
All of a sudden, the stories just felt more alive.
It's a really cool experience.
So like I mentioned before, this week we visited
York, Pennsylvania. And while the episode has a ton of amazing stories, it is not the first time
we've taken you wonderful listeners to the Keystone State. And I have three perfect companion
episodes that will help you spend more time learning some of that state's wild and crazy stories.
First up, go download episode 62, Desperate Measures. This is honestly one of my all-time favorites.
You get a terrifying true crime story that is driven by superstition and folklore.
But at the same time, it's a deep dive into a very region-specific sort of magic known
as pow-wowing, complete with its own grimoires and respected practitioners.
And best of all, it's a story that took place very close to York.
Next, listen to episode 139, Heirloom.
This one goes a bit wider and gives you a haunted tour of Philadelphia.
This is a classic sort of episode with a bit of history, a bit of tragedy
and a lot of dark, shadowy activity that results from it all.
Do check it out.
And finally, give episode 144, Birds of Prey, a re-listen.
This one heads into the wilds of Pennsylvania and covers a story of a very bad man running
a way stop in the mountains called the Schaumbach Tavern.
Honestly, anything located near a hill called the Witch's Head deserves a bit of attention,
and this episode delivers.
So there you go.
Follow up this week's brand new episode of lore with a trip into the past. Episode 62, 139, and 144 are waiting for you in this podcast feed.
Or you can find their direct links in the description for this episode.
And until next time, stay spooky.
