Starting point is 00:00:00 Saturday, October 24th, 2020. Today is the day that my mother, Rosemary Bell, died. She died last night of an apparent heart attack. Not 100% sure what exactly happened. Not 100% sure what exactly happened. But the reason why I bring that up is because my mama didn't raise no bitch. And so to me, today signifies just yet another day to put up points on the scoreboard and to push forward. My mom, every single year for Mother's Day, for Christmas,
Starting point is 00:01:00 and for her own birthday, every single year said, get me the same thing. And that same thing was my happiness or our happiness meaning her sons her three sons my oldest brother Mike my brother Chris and me the baby of the family mark my mom just wanted us to be happy don't get me anything I just want you to be happy I just want to see your smiles. I want you here for dinner with me tonight. That's it. My mom was fun. She was funny. She was loving. She was patient. She was somebody that put a lot of time and effort into her children. And therefore, due to the time and effort that she put in. Her children were able to get messages out.
Starting point is 00:01:50 To the world. That I don't think she foresaw that to ever happen. I don't know if foresaw is a word. But I just made it up. If not. Hey. You know. Today is a weird day.
Starting point is 00:02:01 What can I say? Maybe I earned the right to make up a word. Or do something a little fucking different, right? So right now I'm on a walk. And I already walked this morning for an hour. And I'm going to still go to the gym. And then from there, rather than drinking and smoking pot or getting into drugs or getting into weird shit or just thinking about how sad I am, I'm thinking about the life my mom lived and why she lived her life.
Starting point is 00:02:41 My mom was there to protect me. My mom was there to protect me. My mom was there to support me. And any of you that ever ran into my mom and said that you knew me, you were really going to be in for it. Because she was my biggest cheerleader. She were her children's biggest cheerleaders. And she would go on and on about her son Mark. She would go on and on about her son mark she would go on and
Starting point is 00:03:06 on about her son christopher and he's a filmmaker and he made the movie bigger stronger faster and she'd go on and on about her son michael who wrestled for the wwf and wrestled the undertaker and so on anyone even if you didn't ask or even if you didn't say that you knew us, she would ask you if you knew us. And even when you said that you didn't know us, she would go on and on and on and on about us because she took that much pride in us. She was that proud of us. She loved us and cared about us that much all the way to the point where it was flawed all the way to the point where her mindset was flawed
Starting point is 00:03:53 because she could not see any errors in any of us and she wouldn't really she sometimes wouldn't really tell you that you were wrong. She would say, oh, those other, those stupid teachers gave you a D. Oh my God. She's like, they don't know you. She'd say stuff like that. It makes me, it makes me crack up just to think about it now. Anyway, what I wanted to share with you guys today, because today is Saturday, and we've got another edition of Saturday School. The show must go on. We've got to keep pushing forward. We've got to keep forging forward, and we've got to keep putting up points on the scoreboard every single day.
Starting point is 00:04:37 I know that you hear people say that when people die. You hear them say, oh, that's what so-and-so would want. Da-da-da-da-da. And you don't really know what they would really want. Like, oh, so-and-so would want us to go out on the boat and go fishing or whatever. By the way, that car noise that you hear in the background, car alarm, that's been going on the entire day. I'm pretty sure car alarms don't work. Ineffective. I don't think it's ever saved one car from getting stolen before. Anyway, but I do know that my mom would want us to continue to push
Starting point is 00:05:18 forward. I do know that she would want, because my mom's biggest thing, my mom's biggest thing with her children was to build up our belief in ourself. And she did so through some magical ways, and so did my dad. But today specifically is more about my mom. And honoring her life rather than wallowing in her death. My mother was creative and smart and fun and funny and a beautiful person who wanted to find out and figure out what did you like? What did you like?
Starting point is 00:06:00 What are you like? What are you interested in? Let's find your interest because if we can find an interest, if we can find something for you to attach yourself to, my mom's biggest interest was God. She had tremendous faith. Even after having a shitty upbringing, she had tremendous faith. That faith allowed her to believe in herself enough to kind of pull herself out of a crappy life, pull herself out of what I would call like a loser mindset that I believe that her family suffered from massively. Her parents were addicted to alcohol. And because of that, the family was just a mess. As many of you have dealt with yourselves. And she dealt with a lot of pain through that.
Starting point is 00:06:56 My mom's sister, Terry, died when she was nine. My mom was like 13 or 14. I think my mom kind of almost raised her because her parents weren't there for a child the way they need to be. And she died of leukemia. my mom's brother, Jonathan, he died of a drug overdose. So you can kind of see the impact, right? And then my mom's son, my brother, died of a drug overdose as well. So you can see the cascade of things, the cascade of crap that happens from having a crap upbringing and from having people make some bad decisions and bad choices and get addicted to shit. What it can do.
Starting point is 00:07:56 It can really rip apart a family. But my mom had a faith in God. She had a belief. And my mom also fell in love with my dad. And that became her life. Her family. And God. Her family and religion.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Those were her things. She stayed attached to those things. She believed in those things enough. To where she can keep herself afloat. And raise children. And as she was raising us, she always taught us the most important virtue that you'll ever have is a belief in yourself. And my mom empowered us in a tremendous way, in ways that maybe were too empowering because
Starting point is 00:08:49 in ways that maybe were too empowering because maybe they were too dreamy almost. She never hit you with the fun hammer. She never came in with a good solid dosage of reality. She wanted you to dream. She wanted you to believe in yourself. She wanted you to feel good about yourself. She wanted you to dream she wanted you to believe in yourself she wanted you to feel good about yourself she wanted you to feel great about yourself and I always did and I owe that to her
Starting point is 00:09:12 I still to this day feel that way it takes a long time to build yourself up. When I was younger, I obviously didn't feel as good as I do now because I'm more mature, because I built things up over the years. But your belief in yourself is going to be the most important virtue that you could ever learn.
Starting point is 00:09:43 It's the most important thing that you could ever expand upon. You have an opportunity to work on it. You have an opportunity to make it better. I think that sometimes maybe we think that it's something that you're just born with. And you're not. it's something that you're just born with and you're not. Your willpower, your desire, your interest level, your belief in yourself, all of these things can change.
Starting point is 00:10:19 They usually change slowly and progressively. But one of the biggest things I think that has been a real game changer for me has been to realize that all of us, human beings, the human being that you are, and the power of your mind is where all of the answers lie. The answers lie within us. The answers are inside of us. If we will only have the strength to lean into it. If we only develop the belief system that we can do it. If we can just figure out a way. My mom, I think cared about that so much. I think it was
Starting point is 00:11:09 so important to her because she didn't have that growing up. She was told by her parents that she was fat and she was a little bit heavy at the time, but certainly not fat. And that caused a lot of problems and a lot of pain. Then my mom spent the rest of her life not believing in herself in that one category. And so she was unhealthy and heavier than she wanted to be pretty much her entire life. Now, you got to take responsibility for that. You can't just pass the buck. And I'm not passing the buck. I'm not passing the blame.
Starting point is 00:11:52 But fuck, man, that doesn't help. You know? It doesn't help in life to start off with your leg and your arm tied behind your back. You know? Or it doesn't help to have someone point out your flaws. Even if we got flaws, why not point out the things that we have that are good? My mom was a good athlete. Why not point those things out?
Starting point is 00:12:14 My mom was really smart. Why not point that out? My mom's very personable. Why not point that out? You know? I want to point that out. You know? These are things that we can help other people with.
Starting point is 00:12:32 Think about how powerful that is. Think about the many generations that have had to deal with people's fucked up parents or adults telling children stuff about themselves that they bought. And then it carries on further and further and further. I'm sure my mom's parents were probably hurt by somebody.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Because hurt people hurt people, right? I'm sure they probably didn't have a good belief system set up for themselves. They probably didn't believe in themselves. But if you don't believe in yourself, it makes everything that much more difficult. And it's not about believing in who you are so much as it is in believing in what you are. so much as it is in believing in what you are. Because when we get into who we are, there's many differences between all of us.
Starting point is 00:13:33 There's many strengths, there's many weaknesses, and there's many things to make a big deal about that can kind of separate us out from each other. But when you think about what you are we're all human and guess what we all possess the ability to get better we all possess the ability to get stronger i recognize that this that this vibes with a lot of other messages that i have but i don't care i'll talk about this every day if i have to. Because this needs to be known. And this needs to hit you right between the fucking eyes. It's like a rock shooting out of a slingshot.
Starting point is 00:14:14 It needs to wake your ass up. Because you're not a victim. You are not worthless. There are no limits on what you can learn and know. There are no limits on what you can learn, know, love, or lift.
Starting point is 00:14:36 And when I say lift, I've mentioned this before. When I say lift, I'm not necessarily just talking about lifting weights in the gym. But I'm talking about lifting the weights of life, lifting things off of yourself, lifting things off of other people. What's wrong with telling someone they look great today? What's wrong with telling somebody, hey, you're wearing a nice shirt. What's wrong with, you know, uplifting? What's wrong with saying something
Starting point is 00:15:06 uplifting? Hey, those are cool shoes. Where'd you get them? Those look nice. Wow. That shirt makes your, that shirt makes your eyes look nice. What's wrong? There's nothing wrong. You know, can we say these things to each other? Hey, have you lost some weight? What are we worried about with handing out? Let's not hand out bullshit. But if somebody's worked for it, why not give them a little bit of, why not give them a little vitamin? A little vitamin of belief. A little vitamin B. Slip a little vitamin B.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Hey man, when you're doing that exercise the other day, it looked great. Have you been working on that a lot that looked impressive I was surprised you were able to do it that fast I was surprised you were able to do it with that amount of weight you see somebody eating and they clearly have a healthy meal in front of them if I can congratulate them say hey that looks like a great decision what kind of plan are you on even if you don't know them healthy meal in front of them. Fucking congratulate them.
Starting point is 00:16:07 Say, hey, that looks like a great decision. What kind of plan are you on? Even if you don't know them, throw it out there. Might make a new friend. But you also may have stoked a fire in somebody. Maybe that person hasn't practiced some of these things before. Maybe they haven't gotten that deep
Starting point is 00:16:24 into these things before. But they haven't gotten that deep into these things before. But maybe you can provide that spark. Once you have the spark, you can get the flame going. Once you get the flame going, you can get a breeze going. Get some oxygen into it. And get that stoked fire
Starting point is 00:16:42 turning into a roaring blaze that can't be put out by anyone or anything. Our belief system is so powerful that it extends outward past and above and beyond science. It extends beyond rational thought. And I'll tell you this. Most things that are great. Most things that are great. Most things that are on a different level.
Starting point is 00:17:19 Have been viewed by other people as foolish. Out of bounds. Things that aren't going to work. And guess what? Someone's belief in a project. Or in an idea. Or in a concept. Or in an invention.
Starting point is 00:17:42 Like the slingshot. They held on to that belief long enough and strong enough to not let the doubters seek in. Don't let those doubters seep into your pores and seep into your bone marrow and make you as spineless and as useless as others who have so much self-doubt that they're paralyzed. You do not have to be like that. You do not have to be that person. You can escape that by enhancing your mind. Mind enhancement.
Starting point is 00:18:25 Why not enhance it? Why not make it more powerful? Why not show people what you got? People think you're foolish. People think you're fat. People think you're out of shape. People think you're stupid. People think you're fat. People think you're out of shape. People think you're stupid. People think you're dumb. They can think whatever they want. But as long as your belief in yourself stays strong,
Starting point is 00:18:57 and as long as your belief in what you're doing can stick around for long enough for it to manifest into something, they're not going to be able to say that shit for very long. They're going to say, oh, didn't he used to be really fat? That's all they're going to be able to say at that point. Oh yeah, I knew that guy. Didn't he used to be broke? They're not going to be able to continue to talk about you in the same way. Let me also tell you that
Starting point is 00:19:31 anything that is different, Star Wars, Harry Potter, different scientific theories over the years, look at some of the stuff Elon Musk does, right? He's going to have SpaceX and he's going to make his own, he's going to have his own, his own spaceship going to Mars and stuff like that, right? And people are like, this is crazy, this is insane.
Starting point is 00:20:03 It's not government issued. It's not, you know, you're not NASA. You're not this, you this is insane. It's not government issued. You're not NASA, you're not this, you're not that. The guy figures it out. Any of these people, any of these great people that we hold in high regard have had ideas and concepts that don't appear to have any rational thought to them at all. Why is that?
Starting point is 00:20:31 It's because rational thought is not required for success. Rational thought might be too much along the lines of societal norms. You might just be thinking like everybody else. There's a saying that says. If everyone's. If everyone's thinking the same. Then hardly anybody's thinking. Like that meant that one person thought one thing.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Then everything. Everybody else just went along with it. Reminds me of COVID-19. Nobody thought anything. You guys may disagree or agree. I't know with some of this stuff but you look at like one there's like one country got all of them pretty much sweden had different idea different concepts and we don't know like we you know it's gonna take it'll take a long time to sift through all this and see who figured out what the best.
Starting point is 00:21:25 But you get my point here. Is that your belief in yourself is going to be massive. And my mom instilled a lot of great beliefs in myself. To where if I viewed myself as, if I was ever up against anything that was really, really tough, I could always tell myself, you know what? Like, I'm not going to say that I've never quit on anything because everyone kind of experiences moments where you pushed yourself physically and you had to literally just, you know, stop, right? We've all missed a rep. But there's never been a time where I was like, I can't do that.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Or if there has been times where that did flash through my head because self-doubt has its moments, right? For everybody. I always said to myself, I can come back and get this the next day because I can get better at this. And a lot of that had to do with, a lot of that had to do with my mom instilling that self-belief and encouraging it,
Starting point is 00:22:41 encouraging creativity, encouraging, Encouraging it. Encouraging creativity. Encouraging messing around with different things. To see what you enjoyed and see what you liked. Because your interest level is going to be one of the biggest markers. Just flat out, your interest level is going to be one of your biggest markers to determine how successful you are at something. And the reason is, is that you have to hold on to that for a long time. You have to hold on to whatever it is that you're doing for a long time to be good at it.
Starting point is 00:23:21 You want to be good at something, good. Put some time into it. You know, hit it up on the weekends. Maybe throw in a Wednesday as well. Hit something up three days a week. Golf or whatever it is. You can be pretty good at it. Two hours pop, three hours pop. You'll be good. But if you want to be great, that's something. If you want to dominate, it's going to take everything that you got and then some. It's going to require a lot of time. It's going to require a lot of effort.
Starting point is 00:23:57 It's going to require a lot of blood, sweat, and tears that other people probably don't want to even think about. It's easy for someone to say, yeah, I'd love to be able to hit a ball like that. And then you say, here, hold the club. Swing it 14,000 times and let me know how much you want to have a swing like that. Because that's the kind of effort that it takes to pick up a skill sometimes and if you hold on to your belief that you'll be able to do that one day then you can hang in there for long enough to be good at it and to eventually acquire enough skill to be great at it.
Starting point is 00:24:46 Saturday, October 24th, 2020. Unfortunately, this is the end of the road for my mom. And I'm able to talk about it in this way also due to some of my beliefs, some of the things I've learned over the last several years in studying Stoicism and in studying how I interpret things. My mom's dead, right? She's gone. I don't get to actually physically see her. But I can see her every single day in my head. I can hear her voice in my head for as long as I want.
Starting point is 00:25:30 And I know this because of dealing with death from other people, other people in my life that have died. This is something that you can actually do. I have a memory. I remember her. I'm going to remember a lot of the things that she taught me. There are a lot of the things that she taught me. I might not even remember, but they're instilled in me. They're within me. They're part of me. She's literally part of me. She's part of my genetics, part of my genes. So mom isn't physically with us anymore you don't get to see her you don't get to hug her
Starting point is 00:26:08 you don't get to kiss her right but she's literally part of me she's part of my brother she's part of the thousands of people that she's touched over the years through church and through family and so on but from from a more literal sense, she's part of me. She's part of my genetic code. So even without having the greatest mom of all time, anybody can work on feeling better about themselves.
Starting point is 00:26:44 Anybody can work on a stronger belief system. The easiest way, in my opinion, is to do it physically and to have that physical part seep into the mental side of things. Start out by trying to walk or trying to run, depending on your level of fitness or lifting. I'm sorry, let me get rid of the word try. That'll be another future one. Another future Saturday school. Try not. But do different things. You know, walk, walk a half a mile. Then when you're able to walk a half a mile, see if you can walk three quarters of a mile. See if you can walk one mile. See if you can increase it over time.
Starting point is 00:27:38 See if you can walk the same distance a little faster. Things like that. You'll be able to do it. You'll be able to do it because you'll be able to do it progressively because the human body is very adaptive. I'm going to finish on this note. I want you to understand this if I didn't say it already or if I said it in some other slightly different terms. I kind of meant to say it more this way, but humans are the only one that have a consciousness the way that we have it. Or at least we think at this point currently, right?
Starting point is 00:28:17 We're able to make decisions and make choices that are different from what we see animals doing. Our mind makes us more powerful than any other creature on this planet. Use that to its fullest extent. Examine that. Build it. Make it grow. Make it stronger.
Starting point is 00:28:38 Train it. There are ways of doing it. And you can get it done. It's going to take time and it's going to take a lot of effort. But believe me when I tell you, it is going to be worth it. Strength is never weakness.
Starting point is 00:29:04 Weakness is never strength. Catch y'all later.
