We're seeing our boy Bradley Martin.
He said he can kick everybody's ass.
I don't know if he's playing dumb or what.
Do you think having muscle gives you a false sense of security?
I think it could.
I think other people are like, oh, that guy, I'm not going to even bother with that guy.
I'm not a hothead, so the odds of me getting into a fight are going to be really, really low.
I mean, maybe I'd get mad in that moment, but I think I would just be like,
that's kind of odd that this guy's pushing me.
Like, I'm not tiny.
First thing, because I'm a big black dude, and if you're trying to fight me there is something wrong with you and you know something that i don't know
what do you guys think you you really need to be able to handle yourself out there in those streets
it seems like a little bit of wrestling and a little bit of striking goes a long way i just
think a lot of people were just like oh i'm big and strong i can do it like well have you ever
tried was your friend named bradley do you think 260-pound Bradley Martin could beat Nate Diaz in a street fight?
Why pick him?
Just because you're big doesn't mean you'll be able to perfectly defend yourself.
When I started, I was 260.
Guys that were like 160, 150 were really, really kicking my ass.
How do you guys feel about firearms individually?
They make me a little nervous.
I don't have a lot of experience with them.
I know there are definitely
a lot of gun owners
that listen.
What are your thoughts?
I want you to chime in below
with our idiotic takes
on guns.
You guys are a bunch
of reasons.
Oh, man.
I've had shit like that
happen to me before.
But I was traveling
across the country
with my wife one time
and we were at a Waffle House
of all places.
Of course.
And we're sitting at the counter, and I think I sneezed.
Maybe I laughed.
But I sneezed into, like, my hands and just this giant blobs of snot, big old yellow things of snot in both hands.
Like a whole handful.
It was the fucking most disgusting thing ever.
How do you even produce that much in one, like, go, you know?
And then my wife tries to get, like, a napkin, and she and she gets like one little tiny napkin from like the waitress that it's just
one of those ones that like if you go to wipe up your coffee it just like disintegrates you know
it's like that so i had a rough time trying to clean that one up i just go right into the bathroom
yeah you need a shower after that it was horrible you guys ever know like when you're like you're
eating and you hear this like a disgusting story or see something nasty on TV and you just lose your appetite?
Push it away from you?
Yeah, I'm trying to drink this apple and greens.
Oh, and it's green too.
And the thing is, this stuff doesn't taste great.
It's good for you, it doesn't taste great.
And now I'm just thinking about snot and burgers and shit.
I need to down this.
It's not pleasant.
It's not pleasant at all.
Andrew was supposed to give us a protein bar.
Well, that's what I was going to say.
I think I got something that you could wash it down with.
What happened to that?
I got it right here.
Don't worry.
Hold on.
Yeah, he teased us with the protein bar.
You can't stop thinking about that snot.
We're going to get into this episode, but I want you guys to comment down below what your thoughts are.
What do you think you truly need to know to really be able to defend yourself?
Because everybody loves jiu-jitsu.
A couple of these people that have guns are going to be like, I got my shit taken care of.
Thank you, sir.
Oh, these WRX bars, these beef bars.
Pizza.
A pizza one.
Bacon cheese patty.
Oh, my God.
Where'd you buy this?
Dude, so it was actually, I seen the post from Ron Penna.
And it was weird.
It was him talking about being on the red carpet at the Barbie movie or something.
It was.
That was a good movie, actually.
Barbie was a great movie.
Dude, but like, oh, my God. Of course Ron Penna would be there.
But anyway, and I don't even remember what the post was about, but he talked about like, oh, I've had whatever, a decade of making protein bars.
And when I met up with my two friends, I was so excited for them on this new venture.
So I'm pretty sure he helped them to some extent.
But they're just friends of Ron Penna's.
And so I started following them, started talking to them.
And here we are.
They sent me out a couple of bars for us to try, and I'm like, yeah, these are freaking delicious.
This is a meat bar, by the way.
Yeah.
15 grams of protein.
Delicious.
I just chewed into a cheeseburger one.
I'm in the pizza.
Pizza is hella good.
Dude, the pizza.
Does that actually taste like a cheeseburger?
It's really good.
I haven't tried that one yet.
I gotta wait.
Because maybe the cheeseburger will hit later.
What hits you first?
It's really good.
It tastes like beef and bacon
kind of. Yeah, because it's a bacon
cheeseburger. Yeah, there's little bits
of cheese in here. Dude, this is actually really
good. 190 calories.
15 grams of protein. How much? Any carbs? Five. Dude, this is actually really good. 190 calories. 15 grams of protein.
How much? Any carbs?
Five. Dude, this is
good job, WRX.
Yeah, at eat WRX bar.
Or at eat WRX.
I was just excited because I drive a WRX
so I'm like, oh, what's this?
And I was like, oh shit, it's an actual protein bar.
This is incredible. Dude, good job.
Maybe they'll give us a scholarship.
Yeah.
Son of a whore.
Fuck.
This is good to actually wash this fucking multivitamin down.
Dude, I laughed and almost shot out of it.
Dude, I got to say, man, this aloe vera greens, they're, you know, good for them.
But y'all got to make a, y'all got to find a way to make this tastier, yo.
Just being real.
I don't know if there's any way to make this tastier.
I put in some iced tea the other day.
It wasn't bad.
Yeah, I mixed it with a little bit of mustard.
It tastes good with the banana steak shake.
That was really good that one time.
Oh, yeah.
I forgot we did that.
That did work pretty good.
Okay.
But, yeah.
What do you guys think you guys need to defend yourself?
This is coming up because, you know, we're seeing our boy Bradley Martin, or your boy, you know him.
He said he can kick everybody's ass.
He's had a lot of people on his podcast, and they've been really high-level fighters.
A professional boxer.
He had Nate Diaz.
He had Mighty Mouse Johnson, I think.
And I don't know if he's playing dumb or what, but he's kind of like almost confused that.
I mean, first of all, these, you know, these fighters, they're always going to pick themselves in a fight every time.
Right.
But if you don't understand that people have particular skill sets that you don't have, they don't possess.
Then I think that you might be making a big mistake.
Do you think having muscle gives you a false sense of security?
I think it could, but I also think in a great way that it also does the same.
It's a perception.
I think other people are like, oh, that guy, I'm not going to even bother with that guy.
But I think people don't really know like if you almost any almost any bodybuilder but not not all bodybuilders
i don't think people know that if you just went for a really low single leg
on most bodybuilders or most people that are big yeah and thick that haven't trained in martial
arts they're going down i think they're going down pretty easy and they're gonna have a tough
time getting up yeah right and there's there's exceptions there's like we talked before there's people that are
a little crazy so like i mean i don't know maybe somebody pulls a flying knee out of their ass
that's like perfect when you go for that single leg and maybe it hits you but uh i i have only done a very tiny tiny tiny amount of jiu-jitsu
i have been you know i did professional wrestling for many years and uh you were also a bouncer
yeah and i was in the in the ring with many people uh that had wrestling and grappling
backgrounds and stuff and so i know a little bit on how it works, but I don't, I'm not a gifted, um, or haven't worked at it enough to really say, yeah, I can defend myself. No problem. I know that I can defend myself pretty well in terms of like, I'm not a hothead. So the odds of me getting into a fight are going to be really, really low.
So the odds of me getting into a fight are going to be really, really low.
There's not really anything anyone could say to me that would encourage me to want to fight them that I can think of.
There's not anything anyone could say to somebody that's with me that would encourage me to get into a fight.
Like I'm not going to get into a fight over something that I think is dumb.
The only thing I can think of is if like my family was in danger.
And then I don't even, even if someone pushed me, I would just be like, I think, I mean, maybe I'd get mad in that moment, but I think I would just be like, that's kind of odd that
this guy's pushing me.
Like I'm not tiny, you you know this guy must know something or
so i don't know the odds of getting hurt in like a street fight i think are pretty high
so i would probably just do my best to try to take the high road yeah let's let's let's just
get it out of the way here before we continue this conversation of course guys if if somebody
yeah right if somebody tries to fight me in the street or somebody really tries to come out to me
i'm going to do my best to quell that situation or literally leave the situation.
First thing, because I'm a big black dude and if you're trying to fight me, there is something wrong with you and you know something that I don't know.
You could have a gun. You could be waiting. You could have homies waiting for you, waiting for something to pop off.
And then they come around the corner and kick my ass.
Like there's something I don't know.
So immediately any type of fight you're trying to get out of it.
But now it's like I think that there's a reason why people haven't really approached.
I don't think people have really tried to instigate anything with any of us because, I mean, having muscle, it doesn't necessarily mean you can defend yourself.
But it's definitely a good deterrent.
You know, being a big person or looking like you have a presence makes people not want to fuck with you.
Now, past that, though, what would you guys think you really need to be able to handle yourself out there in those streets?
yourself out there in those streets in being just a longtime fan of like ufc and just watching ufc fence since the very beginning it seems like a little bit of wrestling and a little bit of
striking goes a long way um jujitsu we'll get to that in a moment but if you can sprawl and you can
throw some strikes that seems like a really uh that seems like a really
good place to start now if something goes to the ground then you might be in trouble but
rolling around the ground on on the street is just like it's you're gonna get hurt you're
probably gonna get hurt and the odds of like somebody else jumping in on a street fight
is kind of high usually people if they're
out at night people fight usually at night you don't usually see people fighting in the morning
if people are going out at night they're usually going out with a friend there's probably someone
else there something kick you in the head something stupid's going to happen so i just
think bare minimum um just learning how to sprawl and learning how to like throw a punch and maybe
defend yourself in terms of like blocking stuff that's coming at you that would be amazing just to have that skill set
which wouldn't take that long to learn uh on an elementary level yeah uh it's along the same
lines but like some exposure to comp like some kind of combat sport because I've been around
watching, around the TV with other
dudes watching a UFC fight
and be like, oh, I would just drop him.
How would you do that, sir?
Oh, I would just take him down.
Oh, what do you train?
UFC on PlayStation.
It's like, dude, okay, if you got into that
situation, you would panic, you would
freak the fuck out, you would try to if you got into that situation, you would panic. You would freak the fuck out.
You would try to do what you think is right.
And you would just, you know, spaz out and probably get yourself hurt more than anything.
So I know like saying exposure is kind of like a blanket statement because we're just talking about like Mark just said to learn how to sprawl.
Like you'd have to expose yourself to sprawling to do that.
But I just think a lot of people are just like,
oh, I'm big and strong.
I can do it.
It's like, well, have you ever tried?
Like in a controlled environment where it's like,
you know, like we're going to practice takedowns today.
And it's like, you've never done that.
So how the heck are you going to do it
when somebody is trying to attack you
or whatever it may be, you know?
So it's like, again,
I know it's kind of like a blanket statement,
but I just think having that exposure is going to go a long way yeah no absolutely i'm just i was
just thinking it just reminds me like uh something my homie said to me because like he actually
started jujitsu which is cool he's one of my good friends micah but it was a few years ago and he you
know he started like really going down the rabbit hole of guns and stuff and there was one day i was like dude i know you'll love jiu-jitsu i know you'll love it he's like
amen this is the thing like you were big you're black you could you know you could hand you
yourself but you know my he mentioned his friend i think his name's walt he's like walt with all
his 150 pounds if you tried to fight walt he'd shoot your ass. And they'd be like, Oh, Oh,
Oh my God. Wow. That was tough. And I'm just bleeding out on the ground. It doesn't matter
how much jujitsu I knew, but you know, like if a firearm could quell it. Right. So that just like,
I just, after that conversation, I still haven't learned firearms, but I'm like,
damn, I really should. I never want to have to use a firearm.
But like no matter how much martial arts, you know, if you're in a situation and someone else has a firearm, you're probably fucked.
And we don't ever want to be in that situation anyway.
Most people won't end up in that situation, but it's still probably good to know.
Right.
I do think obviously like some jujitsu is going to go a really long way yeah
you know if someone i mean you guys can comment better than me but if somebody
has six eight months of jujitsu uh and it's kind of fresh they didn't do it 30 years ago
they andrew you're at like perfect 10 months or something right so i mean i i think that that's going to give you way better odds
than than before than than not knowing that right oh yeah absolutely um i think that what's taken
for granted though and you mentioned it there's people that are training like jujitsu is jujitsu
and boxing is boxing right it's not really fighting necessarily it's like it's like a
simulated still choreographed
in a way. It's like there are rules. There are
agreements we have. I can only do this and you can only do that
and okay, boom,
let's go.
I think
though, it's still a mimicker of a fight.
You're still mimicking that
you're in a fight and there's people that are
training that every day. And on top
of that, there's people that are doing like MMA where they're more well-rounded than just learning one skill set.
And I remember years ago, super training gym, when the gym was at its kind of strongest and we had some just real monsters in the gym.
I remember one of the guys in the gym, he was like probably a good 330 pounds or so.
And he was talking about Uriah Faber and he was like probably a good 330 pounds or so and um he was talking
about uriah faber and he was like talking a lot of trash about him i was like dude i will drive
you i will gladly drive you over there and i will buy some popcorn and while i will enjoy
watching him destroy you like 15 times in a row i was like he trains for every day
just like you train for your squad every day. Was your friend named Bradley?
May as well
have been.
I was wondering. Yeah, I was like, he trains
he's like, yeah, but he's so small. He's like 140
or whatever, 150.
But what if he got his hands on him, Mark?
What if he saw red and got his hands on him?
It'd be over, bro. Don't you think?
Was his friend like 260? He'd get real
mad. No, he's 330.
See? Game over. Once he gets his hands on him though right bear hug him beef power project family it is grilling season now i really don't know much about grilling since i use an air fryer at home my boy
andrew does though so since it's grilling season it's time to get your hands on some pete monty's
beef we love those glizzies we love that beef andrew tell them more
about it yeah guys so like you mentioned they do have those glizzies for those that don't know
that's just a hot dog but it's all beef hot dog and it's amazing my favorite thing to smoke is
their prime rib though and you know it's it's grilling season so dust off those grills dust
off those smokers and head over to cpbeef.com and at checkout enter promo code power to save 25 off your order links to them down in the description as well as the podcast show notes
get your glizzy goblin i don't think people know it's a skill set i mean there's uh you know when
you're in school there's like there's different levels of math right there's like the reasons why
there's other kids in different math classes, the AP classes, right?
There's different reasons why.
Magnet school.
Yeah, the magnet school that we didn't even know about.
People have these skill sets, you know, and jujitsu is a skill set.
I mean, my oldest brother was known to be like a fighter, like in our town.
People would be like, oh, yeah, I know your brother.
And half the time they would love him and the other half of the time they got their ass kicked by him probably at some point um but he was just he just liked to fight he just was aggressive
uh that was just his way um he didn't really know how to fight but he was big and he was strong
he could throw a punch so he knocked a lot of people out.
But I did jujitsu for probably like a month and a half.
I choked him out.
It wasn't a real fight.
We were just messing around grappling,
but I choked him out.
You know, so I think that skill set is huge.
And you see it all the time on social media now where people just get people into a hold and they're like,
yeah,
yeah.
Like I,
you know,
they're trying to tap,
but you know,
it's cool.
It's cool.
It's cool.
Like there's that one clip of the two guys on the basketball court.
And the guy gets him in like an ankle.
He's like,
I'm going to break your ankle.
And the guy is still trying to wrestle with him.
And he looks at his friend and he's like, I going to break your friend's ankle and his friend's finally like
dude you gotta stop yeah tom tom de blas de blas de blas he posted about uh yeah i mean he posts
about kids all the time but the thing that gets me is it's always like everybody's watching the
bully beat this kid up and then the kid pulls out some juiu-jitsu then everyone's like oh shit like let's
stop this like calm down calm down it's not that serious so it's just funny that like the ultimate
equalizer that's when people start having an issue not when the big guy's trying to beat up the little
kid it's when the little kid pulls out his jiu-jitsu and they're like oh shit it's not fair
now it's like calm down yeah it was tom actually shared a video too i couldn't find it but it was
like uh it was a police officer that was having to subdue a guy.
And it was just a simple takedown, and he was able to get the arm into a kimura position, got the arm behind the back.
And this guy was really trying to fight back, but he was able to put the dude down.
But it's something that like if you can learn some jiu-jitsu, if you can learn some wrestling,
but the thing about that is like,
it's hard to find an adult wrestling school.
So a jujitsu place is going to be your best bet.
You can get used to being in close quarters with somebody else.
Cause that was an awkward thing for me when I started like getting that close
to somebody.
Usually if you,
if you want to do something,
if somebody wants to fight,
usually you don't want to get close,
but if you're now comfortable getting up close and personal and you close
their space down, you're going to be able to defend yourself pretty well.
You know what I mean?
But this whole thing with Bradley, I think it's really funny because like he's done some jujitsu.
I think there's a clip out there where he was a white belt and he was getting mopped by some upper belts and that's expected.
But the dude's really big and he's extremely strong like he's stupid strong if you guys have seen some of the strength feats of bradley martin like he's still just very explosive too explosive
he's still a ridiculous athlete but do you guys think that he could like for example i think he
was saying he could beat up nate diaz or be like beat nate diaz in a street fight do you think he
could i'm just curious well do you think 260 pound bradley martin could beat n Nate Diaz or beat Nate Diaz in a street fight. Do you think he could? I'm just curious. Do you think
260 pound Bradley Martin could
beat Nate Diaz in a street fight?
I just think Nate Diaz is like, I think
he's fought his whole life.
I think he loves,
I mean, especially like, why pick him?
Pick a different fighter.
He will scrap too.
There's some of the most,
both the Diaz brothers, some of the most you know both the Diaz brothers some of
the most accurate uh strikers in the history of the UFC they just kind of pepper you with these
shots and I think those guys I mean they could probably take you out quick too if they wanted to
but they usually just wait you just wait until they get a good opportunity and then they take
it and then it's over so I don't think that um I don't I'm unaware'm unaware I'm unaware of if Bradley Martin
has some history of
fighting that I don't know about
he could
so therefore I don't really truly know what the hell
would happen but just based off of what we
know and based off of what we see
I mean I have to definitely give the upper hand
to Nate Diaz because
we've been watching him in the UFC for the last
decade just destroying people Nate Diaz because we've been watching him in the UFC for the last decade just destroying people.
Nate Diaz would wreck Bradley Martin.
I don't think he realizes like, okay, there's a size difference, but there's a massive experience difference in the fact that like this person is comfortable, like very, very, very comfortable being up close and personal with anybody.
That's huge huge people panic when
punches are thrown their way you'll start breathing faster brock lessner who you know brock
brock lessner's brock lessner he's a monster but his the hardest thing for him to deal with was
punches being thrown at his head because he was a collegiate wrestler yeah so he had a tremendous
skill set but and he ended up winning the ufc championship which is wild like someone needs
to do a documentary on that shit because that guy came in and and just kicked everyone's
ass kind of in a way yeah but uh he had a really hard time throwing punches and he had a hard time
if someone threw a punch at him so if you don't have much of a boxing background or you don't
have a background where you're comfortable with that most of the time all people do is this their
arms go way up and it's like well that's the worst thing that you can do because now I can hit every part of your body.
I don't know what you're trying to block, but it doesn't work that way.
100%.
It's like, are you comfortable having fists thrown your way?
Are you comfortable with somebody coming at you?
And if this person has been doing that day in and day out for years on end, you think now, like, because you see red in your 260, that like.
I'm real mad.
like because you see red and you're 260 that like real mad like you with your elevated heart rate sweating and getting tired easily you think you're going to be able to really really take him out
it's just it's kind of funny yeah what about against 125 pound demetrius johnson i think
demetrius johnson would whack his ass like i don't think i mean i don't see how anybody could
really beat demetrius these days. Oh, my God.
I just thought of the Ace Ventura clip when he takes the guy out of the backpack and he puts him on the ground.
Tommy Davidson?
Tommy Davidson.
Oh, my God.
That's the greatest clip ever.
But this is the thing, I think.
I think that if you give Bradley a year of training, a year of grappling training, a year of boxing, and he just does it for a year,
I think in a street fight
he'd beat Demetrius Johnson.
Because I think,
I don't think he'd be nearly as,
not even close to a good of a fighter
as Demetrius Johnson.
But at least he'd have some experience,
because he weighs three times more than that man.
Is this serious?
What is this?
From my age, Ventura.
It's like that big, huge guy comes out.
And you're like, oh, shit.
And then he takes this little guy out of this little backpack.
Oh, my God.
Cut it off of YouTube.
This would be Demetrius Johnson, like, jumping off a park bench.
I feel like I can't laugh at this.
Oh, my God. You have to watch this. I feel like I can't laugh at this oh my god
you have to watch this
oh yeah this first part is so good
oh my god
we'll get too distracted
I wonder what they have these Africans saying
well I don't think he'd 100% beat Dmitri
so I think he'd have a better chance
because this thing like in a street fight or an mma match with the cage and refs street fight
street fight is interesting because like demetrius johnson being so small and fast like he's got he
can just like run around like crazy but once he gets his hands on you. Yeah, that's the thing.
I don't even know if you would hit him at all.
Dude.
Let me just kick you in the shin a bunch of times for like maybe like 30 minutes
and just keep backing away.
Andrew, can you type in Michael J. White talks Bruce Lee?
Oh, Michael J. White.
He's unbelievable.
But do you know the clip I'm talking about?
No, I don't think so.
Dude.
I saw the kicks and stuff that guy can throw.
It's insane.
Michael J. White's ridiculous, but I want you to pay attention to something he says here because
it's actually very interesting.
I think you'll find it, Andrew.
Yeah.
There's a six minute clip clarifies about beating Bruce Lee.
Yes.
Oh, yeah.
Bruce Lee was small.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You'll see this.
Let's see.
Bruce Lee.
We don't really know how much he knew about fighting.
He obviously knew martial arts and he knew how to act and knew how to do stuff in a movie.
I don't know.
I don't know if we know how much he knew.
Well, you know what's funny is just randomly I was watching End of the Dragon the other night.
I forgot how small Bruce Lee was.
Yeah, see, the thing is I made a mistake.
What does he weigh, like 160 pounds or something?
No, 132. 132 132 there you
go and you weigh how much 225 oh yeah and i've done it all my life because 120 pounder versus
130 pounder yeah at the time i said i was 235 but if it's like 100 plus pounds exactly and then
somebody who's not a fighter floyd mayweather is the most advanced fighter who ever lived.
No disputing that. But there's no freaking way in the world he's going to beat Mike Tyson.
It's just it's it's just physics. It's just not.
So it's a good perspective when I say, oh, yeah, it could have been Bruce Lee.
I wish I didn't say that because he's my hero, too.
Yeah. But I said that against people's
hero and they weren't supposed to hear that pretty much there was a point in this clip i think maybe
it's later on where he was mentioning like yeah he beat up bruce lee because they're way differential
like he can probably swallow certain punches and with him being 225 pounds and knowing how to throw
a punch he could probably beat up bruce lee and like he probably could beat up bruce lee you know brad's 260 can he throw a punch i don't fucking know but
like and back to uh like kind of the nate diaz thing it's like nate diaz you know is a fighter
he's been fighting like he hasn't been just training yeah again with bruce lee i don't think
we really i'm not trying to discredit anything i'm a huge Bruce Lee fan, but we don't really know if Bruce Lee was a fighter.
Bruce Lee was a martial artist, which if he put that into practice, I'm sure he would do really well.
He was unbelievably fast and stuff, but we don't even really know that.
We don't know how fast he was.
We don't know much of anything.
It's movies.
He's in a lot of movies doing martial arts.
Do we give Chuck Norris the same praise?
Do we give some of these other guys the same praise?
We don't kind of.
And so I think you've got to be careful with someone from the movies.
I'm not saying that he's not advanced with fighting.
What I'm saying is that he is mainly a martial artist.
It seemed like he was a teacher and a practitioner, but not a fighter, whereas Nate Diaz has been fighting a lot.
And again, I could be unaware.
Maybe Bruce Lee fought in some street fights or something like that a bunch of times.
I don't know.
Seen him fight some people at once.
Yeah.
And I think Chuck Norris actually competed too, right?
Or he actually fought.
Yeah, I think he did.
I think that might have been like karate or something, which is, you know, I don't know.
It gets – I don't know how effective it is or whatever.
It gets kind of discredited.
But learning anything, I think – learning anything physically I think is an advancement in you being able to protect yourself.
I think it is really good though too like anyone it's a fine a martial art but if you're a bigger
person i think you'd really benefit from going and uh and a like a heavier person you'd really
benefit from going and doing some boxing or some juditsu or something because you'll really be able
to understand that like just because you're big doesn't mean like you you'll be able to perfectly
defend yourself like when i started i was 260 and guys that were like 160 150 were really really
kicking my ass because i didn't have the concepts of moving or grappling so i was getting my ass
handed to me and now that that really showed me like oh shit if i was in the street and one of
these guys really wanted to take me down they could take me down and they could also control
me because i'd be showing them my arms and then they'd take my arm or they'd they'd really be able to do certain things to me
and it didn't matter that i'm 6'2 260 when i started right so just a little bit of being
able to learn how to defend yourself goes a very long how uh how advanced do you think someone has
to be to be calm if someone's coming at him like in a street
fight because like well you're explaining some of these young some of these uh guys that were
smaller being able to beat you in jujitsu but and they may have been able to do the same thing in a
street fight but in a street fight does that training go away for some of the guys that are
maybe newer like they kind of they get scared i don't know what are your thoughts the streets are different man because there's there's a lot of factors
there's like are there homies involved are there people around uh like it you might have to fight
differently than what you expect right i mean it might you mean not like just automatically take
the guy to the ground i mean you got to kind of size up the situation, right? Yeah, so it's like just because you do jujitsu
doesn't mean you can size out a live situation
because if there are friends involved,
you don't want to take that to the ground
because if you take that to the ground,
now you're on the ground with them
and now they can just get on you.
Like, obviously you want to get away,
but if it's a one-on-one type situation,
it kind of just depends on like how calm you're,
no matter what your experience with jujitsu,
it's like, can you stay calm in a live situation?
Because it's a different type of situation.
There are no rules here.
You know what I mean?
The guy is going to be throwing punches.
Do you know how to deal with somebody throwing punches at you?
So it's like that's why it's – Maybe you've never had that before.
Even though you practice jiu-jitsu all the time.
If you've only done jiu-jitsu, then yeah, you haven't had that.
So somebody is swinging at you.
Do you know how to weave back?
There's a lot of factors, but understanding how to grapple can still make a very big difference.
Because, okay, if you can close distance well, if you can get your hands on somebody,
the closer you are to them, the less power they're going to be able to have behind the punches they're going to be throwing at you.
And then if you can just stay calm and handle that, you could fucking handle
your own in those situations. I hate to sound like a broken record, but your sleep quality
most likely sucks. It's one of the biggest things that we talked about on the podcast. So many
guests have come on and talked about how sleep can help you stick to your diet, stick to your
workout plan, lose body fat, gain muscle, all the good things that you're trying to do. But it's
hard to do because you might be snoring. And if you're snoring, that's why we've partnered with
Hostage Tape, which is mouth tape that you can put over your nose, your mouth, when you're asleep to
help you stop snoring and breathe through your nose. But if you haven't been breathing through
your nose this whole time while you've been sleeping, it's going to be a little bit difficult
to get air through there. That's also why hostage tape has nose strips to
help open up your nasal airways and make it easier to breathe through your nose when you're asleep.
Now your partner won't be having a fuck with you when you're asleep because you'll be actually
breathing through your nose. Andrew, how can they get it? Yes, that's over at hostage tape.com
slash power project where you guys will receive an entire year supply of nasal strips and mouth
tape all for less than a dollar a night again that's at
hostage tape.com slash power project links in the description as well as the podcast show notes
it's pretty cool to have seen uh how calm some people are like when you see some of these things
happen on social media where they tell the other guy they're like no i i can i'm really well trained
please leave me alone bro i fight yeah like like I don't want to hurt you,
which sounds kind of funny, right?
Because you're like, oh, yeah, whatever.
Whatever, motherfucker.
What are you going to do?
Kick me in the shin, you know?
Do you guys remember the Chael Sonnen on Ultimate Fighter?
I'm not sure.
No.
Oh, you got to.
I love him.
He's the best.
Still one of my favorite clips ever.
It's James Smith.
Yeah, bro.
He shows muggers his purple belt.
Getting out of Matt.
Matt.
Just be careful.
This ankle.
A little bit dodgy.
oh just be careful this uncle a little bit dodgy the way the way that jiu-jitsu is at you know your jiu-jitsu school is not going to be anywhere
near the same thing uh as the streets or as a street fight and like unfortunately i learned
a really hard lesson when I competed.
It was like that initial, like, you know, like at school with my training partners,
like we slap hands and it's like, ah, dude, how's your weekend?
Whatever it may be.
You know, it's like, it's chill.
I'm not genuinely trying to hurt the guy.
And they're genuinely not trying to hurt me.
Granted, we are trying to like get better.
So we might try to go for submissions, whatever, whatever it is. But but in that moment when i reached to try to grab dude's collar or something
and like the slap from his his side was like oh shit he's actually trying to like not hurt me but
he's actually like there's aggression he wants to win yeah and in competition you know like you are
trying to go 100 and it's like whoa this is
different it felt way different you know it was very like and i was like oh shit and so i had to
like get acclimated very fast but that's the thing you know it's like in that moment i can't just like
i'm a little uncomfortable tap lay let's keep going it was if i tap i'm done and in the streets
you i mean you guess you can tap,
but that's kind of not it.
It's over when one of you is done,
and done as in like KO'd or worse.
There's something really fun about like being able,
like rolling with people that are really coming at you aggressively.
And this is something that you, like if you're at school,
or people you've rolled with often,
they're not going to come at you as aggressively. But like when I go to different schools and I be able to know who I am, then they come at me because they, it's like they,
they want to, they really want to fuck me up. I like that. It's because like, then it's like,
can you stay calm in that situation? And if you can, I mean, not saying it equates to a street
fight, but those are good experiences to have. that's that exposure that i was talking about you know if
your exposure is in jiu-jitsu is slap hands and you sit down that's a lot different than
comp training even where you and i are going to start standing up and then eventually competing
is a different exposure now i'm not saying it's the same as a street fight but it's a little bit closer than hey and sema how's it going oh that's great you know like
you know laid back jujitsu if you guys were gonna make a i guess a curriculum right or things that
people should know what how would you go about it so you said wrestling boxing i think for especially
for young people i think wrestling is amazing yeah because
exactly what you said about being in like close quarters i remember you know watching some boxing
with some family members and friends and stuff and they're like what are these guys doing they're
just laying on each other they're they're you know they're super close to each other you know when
they're when they're in in the clinch kind of and i don't think people understand how hard like that's
a skill set to be able to get
that close to another person who's punching you.
And so I think just being like, being less scared, less intimidated of almost everything.
So I think if you have a kid, I think some sort of grappling, I think would be really
great to get them involved with.
And it's going to, I think it can help.
I think it can help every single other thing that they do in their life.
And it can help, especially if you get them on wrestling,
like the wrestling classes are always like at schools,
there's always a lot of conditioning,
but you can play any other sport very easily after you learn how to wrestle.
Yeah.
We have a new guy at Waza.
And I mean, I want to say he's had like three days of jiu-jitsu, but former high level wrestler. And, you know, we kind of like, you know, connect eyes like, yeah, let's go. And I'm like, oh, this is going to be terrible because he doesn't know any submissions. So he only knows how to get in position and just cook you there.
in position and just cook you there and my whatever nine ten months of jiu-jitsu is not going to be able to fend off this wrestler no matter how hard i try even if i get into a position
by time i like get to the pass he's already like like you know spun around and he's on my back
somehow you know it's like shit like ah i wish i knew some wrestling so like yeah i am in full
agreement i think wrestling would probably be like the first thing how early would you guys want to uh potentially teach your kids firearms you think
how do you guys feel about firearms individually they make me a little nervous i don't have a lot
of experience with them yeah um i've shot guns probably a handful of times but uh i think you I think... You almost got shot one day. Oh, my God, dude.
Fuck.
That's rough.
Yeah.
That's not a story.
Go off, like, right next to my foot.
Oh, my God.
Where were we?
Was it at the ranch?
Yeah, we were at my friend's house, and we were at a ranch.
I'm in cold sweat back here thinking about it.
Yeah, we had...
He just, I don't know.
He just shot, like, right next to, like, my foot. This was a person that was untrained with firearms by the way right he was like day one
for him and he was doing something stupid and i think he accidentally the gun went off and the
bullet went right by your leg yeah he was trying to uh i was like what the fuck was that oh dude
i think he was trying to like reload it something, but not knowing that it was still, like, ready to go.
And, yeah.
Oh, my gosh.
Yeah, we were all being very cautious.
And luckily, he still had it kind of pointed at the ground.
But, damn.
Yo.
Just thinking about that.
Like, he thought it was empty.
Oh, time to reload it.
Bam.
Oh, shit he he just
put it on the ground and walked away and just never came back never came back literally never
came back i haven't seen literally yeah that was uh yeah they they make me uncomfortable that day
um like whatever like the guns were like all laid out on the table and i think uh i think mark you
were like oh yeah let andrew go first because you knew how like this is like my first time and i'm
super uncomfortable with it and like smoky tried to get me to go and like i couldn't even walk he's
like whoa you actually are like freaked out i'm like yes dude i this is weird i'm uncomfortable
here and then you know shoot a couple of uh like the the lower gauge rifles and it's like oh this
is kind of fun and then i shot his gun and it was like oh you know like the kickback was crazy i'm
like oh man this is not what i thought it was you see that shit in the movies all the time and it's
just like they're like yeah and then in real life it's like boom and it's super loud like my ears
were all fucked for like a month after that i was like oh i don't know how people do this there's gonna be a natural discomfort when
you hold an object that literally with one slight pressure will kill the person next to you if
you're stupid right like that of course but like i think that's partially why it's important for us
to i really will at some point very soon. I think it makes sense for everyone.
It's great. We have the right to bear arms.
It's a
really awesome thing.
But having a gun,
you have a lot of responsibility.
And there's a lot of laws and rules. I'm not even
aware of all the difference. I mean, you can't just go around
and carry a gun wherever you want.
I think maybe in some states you can, like Texas.
here in california
um not only like your gun can't even be like loaded like uh you have it in your house i think
it needs to be in like a gun box or safe of some sort um so you know trying to protect your your
home you know from somebody coming into your house or something like that uh seems like it
would be kind of complicated you know in terms of like getting to this like weapon and then i don't
even know like i mean something really crazy would have to be going on in my house for me to shoot
somebody um but i might shoot somebody just because i'm fucking scared that someone's in my house that
doesn't belong there.
You know what I mean?
Like you can get yourself in some really weird situation very quickly.
Whereas, like, I've had friends who've been robbed before and they just have seen people in their house and the person just leaves.
And the person is like, the person that owns the home, they're, they feel they're scared you know like it makes
them very nervous and it's something that's like kind of traumatic um even though we know that that
happens a lot um but again like if you had a weapon maybe you would have taken action on the
person and maybe they were just like stealing your fucking tv or something like i wouldn't even give
a fuck if someone stole my tv i'll go buy another one yeah i've always felt with with guns it's almost the same same feeling as like if you if i had a
truck it's like a lot of opportunities would come up for me to be forced to use the truck
and see my getting a new fridge like hey dude can you help me move my old one out i gotta take it
to the dump it's like you're the one with a truck so now you get that responsibility thrown on you um same again i maybe this is unfair
but like i feel like if you have a gun there might be opportunities to use that gun whereas if you
don't have the gun then those opportunities won't show themselves similar to just being at like
stronger at something like hey can you come help me lift this thing uh whatever
it may be and i just feel like is like the gun almost attracts opportunities to be forced to
use the gun i know that sounds a little crazy but like if i don't have the gun then well there's a
good chance i'm not going to shoot somebody or i'm not going to be in and have an opportunity
to be in a situation where i would have to use it i know
the the argument is like well it's better to be ready you know better be safe than sorry but
i lean towards that yeah because like i mean i i get you i get what you're saying i've heard people
use that argument before like oh if you don't have a gun you're almost like nazi not gonna have to
use it and no one ever wants to have to use a gun but then the situation like no one ever wants to
be in that situation but
what if you are and what if the best thing for you was to actually have a firearm and you did it
yeah and you have a family like yeah and people are like you don't like people people that are
responsible to have guns like my friend micah does training like like he he has he has a place where
he can go and he can train with a gun he's not going to be out here just like he's not wanting to use it but when he does ever have to use it he is familiar with how
his body needs to move to use that gun if you're going to know something you're going to have
training so that ideally you're in a situation to use that well you're not going to be an
inexperienced person that now owns a firearm you're going to have experience right so i mean i
do understand what you're saying but i mean me
personally i lean towards like you'd rather be safe than sorry absolutely yeah right yeah no a
buddy of mine he's just like dude if like you know about the person being in your house like if you
have the gun like cool like you're gonna be safe or whatever like you could technically accidentally
shoot somebody that's just trying to steal a tv but what if that person has the gun and you don't?
You have nothing now, right?
You know, like whatever he wants to do to you, your family, your house,
they can because they have the ultimate, you know, weapon,
which, you know, happens to be a gun.
But, yeah, so when we think about it that way, it's like, fuck, yeah.
You know, and then this same friend, he's just like, yeah, dude, he's like, we have this whole plan.
My wife goes into this room with the shotgun, kids behind her, because there's only one way in and one way out of this room.
Whatever comes through that door, boom.
And so it's like, damn, that's very powerful because then to know that they're always going to be safe if that pops up.
TRT, it's a popular topic.
A lot of guys are hopping on it.
It's something
that we've talked about a lot. And you might think you're a candidate, but how would you know if you
haven't got your blood work done and you don't know where your markers are? That's why we've
partnered with Merrick Health owned by Derek from More Plates, More Dates. And the cool thing about
Merrick is you'll get your blood work done and you'll also have a patient care coordinator that
can help you analyze your blood work, analyze your testosterone, all these other markers to help you actually figure out if you're someone who needs TRT.
Because there could be things that you could be doing nutritionally with supplements or even with
your lifestyle that can boost your testosterone to the levels that they should actually be at.
Andrew, how can they get their hands on it? Yes, that's over at MerrickHealth.com

as well as the podcast show notes my guy micah has the same plan like he he knows him his wife
his daughter they all know the plan if anything on, this is where everybody's going in the home.
Right?
So it's not like this like haphazard, oh, we just have guns.
Like there is a set plan for where everyone's going to go.
Yeah, dude.
I've seen the things where they have like the ear muffs or whatever they're called to like block the sound.
But like in those, you can communicate with each other because like you can't hear shit.'s just like damn that'd be sick a little walkie-talkies in there that's pretty
wild yeah because like if so like if uh if somebody walks in right now and i happen to shoot them like
all our ears would be fucked so like if i were to be like ncm let's go out the back way you'd be like
i can't hear you you know but if we have the uh you guys watch uh hijacked haven't it's good it's your selba yeah
oh yeah i haven't seen it yeah it was really good yeah you can check it out does that have
anything to do with this conversation it does okay it does yeah there's a lot of yeah i know
there are definitely a lot of gun owners that listen what are your thoughts i want you to
chime in below yeah with our idiotic takes on You guys are a fucking bunch of reasoners.
I'm in full agreement.
I think having a skill set with a gun I think is awesome.
It would suck to have to use it,
but it is the highest level of protection that you can kind of get.
The highest level of responsibility too.
Yeah.
Right?
And then also having a gun and having a skill set with a gun
um i think there's just a tremendous amount of respect that people have for it um hunting is
something like i i don't necessarily think that i would like love to hunt um i'm such a fucking
bitch that i i don't even i wouldn't even want to kill anything um but at the same time i kill it
and give it to me yeah i think at the same time i think it and give it to me I think at the same time
I think it gives you a different perspective
I think it could be life altering to
have an experience like that where you go
and you hunt you know track the animal
and you take the animal out and so forth
and now you have to
you see where the fucking food comes
from you know it's like
a different process and
I think sometimes i think people
think that people that hunt are just going out there and like firing guns and acting crazy and
that's not the way that it goes down and i think they think uh that a lot of gun owners are
irresponsible of course there's always going to be some of that but um a lot of people have a lot
of respect for it and people like your friend who are training with it it's like you guys have possessing uh the ability that you have with jujitsu it's like you're not
going and like you know you're gonna if you absolutely have to then you might utilize what
what you know um but i think you know being a person uh that's strong you kind of i think
strength is a responsibility too.
Yeah.
You can't just go around like and just chuck people around and fuck people up.
Even though you might be able to.
Even though you might be able to.
Just pick it.
The Bradley thing.
Find that clip for a while.
Remember what we pulled up before?
I don't.
From that guy's video?
Oh yeah, where we picked a little guy up and slammed him.
Yeah, you had a couple clips of Bradley.
Oh, my bad.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm sorry.
Did you lose your mind?
Oh, no, no, no.
It's all good.
It's all good.
I was just saying, like, you know, you get your energy out in the gym, you know, and
so you're not going to be as volatile with other people.
You're in there lifting and learning a skill set.
Yeah.
Like, again, the funny thing is I think I've always been pretty chill.
I've never been looking for fights.
But since starting jujitsu, like I'm even less, I don't know, I'm less willing to want to have to do any of that to anybody.
And I think most people who do it too say something very similar.
Like they know what they know and they don't want to go out and instigate shit.
But if for some reason they have to use what they know,
at least they're confident enough to use what they know.
You also remember being on like a soccer team, you know?
And it's like certain players on the team,
like they're kind of just happy to be on the team
and maybe you don't kick the ball as hard at that guy because you kind of know like you're like
same thing for me with football like when you when you have some strength and you have a little extra
you're like okay you know what i mean like yeah you size the situation up you're like this guy's
150 pounds there's really no reason for me to go full throttle on this.
This was kind of funny.
But maybe not.
What you said reminded me of this.
Let's pull this up.
How much do you think that guy weighs?
170 to 180 is my guess.
He doesn't look like he's up at about 200 pounds.
Yeah.
That was a good leg uh yeah that would see that
stuff like that i mean that would suck to try to fight on that oh man and then i don't know who
that other guy is but he looks pretty blocky pretty strong but you know the thing is is like
uh he has put himself
in situations like there was one video out there where he did a little bit of jujitsu go for that
half guard right there but and if you actually go towards that part you'll see him in a gi
you'll see like when it's somebody that's his size with some experience yeah right here oh
this part's interesting this one's really interesting's really interesting. I think it's a brown belt dude and him and the guy are rolling.
And he's just like having a good time.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And you'll see there's a segment where he's just literally toying with him.
In the streets, I don't have a gi, bro.
You guys, I'm—
Hey, listen, I'm slippery.
Yeah.
You won't get a hold of me yeah i'll keep you busy
it's just it's uh laughable to me that still to this day like there's been too much
exposure of jujitsu to think anything else to to i think it's good that people are confident in themselves that they can defend themselves.
But I mean, it's just.
But big kudos to him for like going out and doing this at some point, because like, yes, yeah, he's over there getting mopped by this dude.
But like when I started, when I started, this would be the same situation to me and I might be looking even worse.
You know what I mean?
I have no doubt that a lot of people could do that to me all day long.
Yeah.
Just toss me around.
But it'd be scary if he actually got some combat experience.
If he actually spent a few years doing some shit with how athletic and strong and explosive he is, he'd be so dangerous.
Yeah, that's – well, he's got him in a –
What will juiu-jitsu
do?
Do you think,
so forget about
being able to
win a fight.
It seems like
an amazing skill set to really be able to defend
yourself, just to be able to kind of like almost
if you're not able
to get on the offensive because you're not as big or you're not as strong, maybe just being on the defensive is nice and just not allowing somebody to get their hips higher than your hips and being in a guard and so forth.
I think it's I think the benefit for me as far as actually fighting people is like I don't have to take and I don't have to put on too much damage.
I don't have to take and I don't have to put on too much damage.
Like,
yeah, there are joint locks,
but my goal is just to get,
just to like subdue you and get you in a position where you can't do
anything.
So I do want to close the space between you.
I want to get as close to you as possible.
And then I want to put us in a situation where like you can't punch me and
I'm just maybe on top of you.
If I have to put on a choke and just stay there,
that's cool. But the least strikes the better you know someone has me in a position where i can't throw
any more punches i'd be like okay i'm i'm good i'm sorry i don't know if you're gonna accept
a sorry now but i'm good because once you get yourself to a place where like because a takedown
is easy and with someone who doesn't know what the fuck they're doing, just progressing to a mount position is so easy.
Those things like that's the easiest way to stop a scuffle with no bruises.
And it's not hard to do when you have some experience.
You know what I mean?
And then again, it's like when people get in fights, sometimes they throw punches.
A lot of this shit happens.
But like accidents happen where somebody falls and things get fucked up and people get sued.
Worst that can happen, I think, is like the best situation is just being able to get somebody's neck and just slowly put them to sleep and stop once they're out.
How strong are some of the females that you guys do jujitsu with?
When I was a beginner, I got tapped by a few, right?
Especially like some experience but so
like yeah like there's some girls that are really strong too yeah i don't know why guys have this
perception that women are like weak i mean there's girls out here deadlifts and like 500 pounds and
then there's girls will have a skill set please type in jujitsu and fighting f-f-i-o-n fion
space davis oh yeah flow grappling i i can pull up whatever but look at find the okay please play F-I-O-N, Fionn Davis. Oh, yeah. Flow Grappling.
I can pull up whatever, but...
Look at...
Find the...
Okay, please, play this clip.
This top one?
Yeah, that top one.
I'm actually going to fuck people up.
She just won double gold recently, too, right?
Yeah, she...
Okay, so this thing.
So there was actually a clip on Flow where she was just doing rounds with people and
tapping out guy after guy after guy after guy nogi.
And they're trying to give it to her.
And this is just one sparring match, but I wish we were able to find the clip where, like, just she's tapping dude after dude after dude.
Some of these girls that just know some grappling, too, I'm sure they can make a lot of dudes look like shit even without jiu-jitsu, even just with wrestling.
Oh, yeah. yeah okay here we go
owns the mat for 10 minutes so she i think she she's won worlds a few times um
she's with a girl here but get her with the dude dude
because like right after she taps this girl she's probably going to be working with a dude and she's
like mopping the guys in this class there's some guys who are bigger than her she's still able to
like really fuck them up she's a very hot she's a high level black belt but like i hate getting
stuck oh my god yeah oh shit yeah put them through the wall watch that was really good example right
there because he was literally
trying to arm bar strength and he just he wasn't really able to yeah yo these jujitsu women are
savages she's not even tired yeah she's doing fine she just went through like five people
yeah and she's she literally like taps people for 10 minutes right so woman in jujitsu can
fuck people up bro again just the ability to take
somebody down and get on top of them and control them because the thing is people will want to like
throw their hands out and the worst thing for somebody to do when you're on top of them especially
when you know what you're doing is for them to go like this it's like hey let me take those hands
of yours yeah all all the options yeah i would say maybe not put them to sleep because shit can get weird if you make somebody pass out and, you know, I don't know.
I would say try thinking of a different.
Oh, if you're in a fight.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I just I would be weary of putting someone to sleep that way.
I mean, you could, but like.
Why?
Oh, I mean, shit.
If your adrenaline is going to be going,
maybe they passed out 30 seconds ago and all of a sudden they come to like way later.
You know,
I think that when,
like when you experience,
like have you ever put anyone to sleep on accident?
Almost,
almost recently actually a bow and arrow.
So there've been a few,
like when you roll a lot,
I've put a few people to sleep and immediately once they're out, you know.
Right?
When you put somebody to sleep, you feel everything go.
And yeah, you're right.
When you have adrenaline and stuff in a street fight, you don't want to have to do that.
But sometimes if you do, you'll know when somebody is out.
Like you'll know when that body just is a – let go.
It's like when you feel somebody go to sleep they're not they're not fighting you anymore
you know what i mean they're they're done yeah and then you can just i'm not saying you should
but you know you know what i mean absolutely anyway yeah i'm excited for the marigali uh
canaan fight it's gonna be good yeah we're going to austin soon guys so yeah it's gonna to be good. We're going to Austin soon, guys. Oh, yeah. It's going to be a lot of fun down there.
Nick Baer, Tom Segura,
Zach Bitter,
Zach Bitter,
John Wellborn.
Yeah, Wellborn's been doing a lot of great stuff
with jujitsu athletes and stuff, too,
so that'll be really cool to talk to him.
Was he the guy that I showed you with that Victor Hute?
I think so.
He works with Victor Hugo,
who just recently won the Ultra Heavyweight World Championship.
John's a big boy.
He got a big old pumpkin head.
Nice.
Just a big dude.
Strength is never weak.
This week, this is never strength.
Catch you guys later.
Bye.
