Bernie is just staring i was gonna say you guys are starting to get a thing going here where you you guys have like a signature stare down to start a podcast uh i did bribe bernie with some treats
you did this week so maybe he's he really wants to lay in is this guy okay he really wants to lay in here, but the cords, he knows he can't lay there.
He can't get around on this side.
He'd have to walk by you on that side.
I've always really hated this guy, but he did give me a couple of treats today.
Yeah, that real moral dilemma.
Do you hold the grudge or move on?
I think he's going to still hold the grudge.
For people that don't know, Tanner comes over every wednesday like he has for what three years and every wednesday my dog barks at tanner like he is a
house intruder only person in the world he does that too all right my dog barks but the second
he sees oh i know you quits barking and is excited um you see he still thinks that you're here to
rob our house yeah he is he is very uh leery of me like he's like
but you did give him some treats today you've done it before but today you gave him treats
and you could just tell he was like ah he seemed a little more receptive he's looking like okay
should i like this guy or not yeah thinking about it yes and this is episode 244 of the
massonomics podcast we are the lifting podcast about nothing.
And my name is Tanner.
And my name is Tommy.
And Tommy's dog's name is Bernie.
And he's here actually off camera.
He did decide to lay down.
Front and center.
No guests this episode, Tommy.
Yeah.
Just us and Bernie.
Yeah.
It's the Ask Mastanomics episode.
Right.
We haven't not had a guest in quite a while it's been a long time actually and probably since uh we were uh recording
oh yeah yeah yeah right which that seems like a long time ago now that seems weird that we did it
that way for a while yeah i wonder how those are to listen to in retro you know i thought you know
at the time i guess i didn't listen to one the whole way through,
but you know,
I'd have to edit it because the nature of that,
there was some gaps in there that I have to tighten up a little bit.
But I always thought at the time they sound pretty seamless.
I don't think people would,
would know if you just dropped it in that we weren't recording.
So then there was no video for those.
We weren't together.
So yeah.
Yeah.
There was that whole part.
And now look at us with our video.
Living the high life over here.

because i'm we did quite a bit of talking before this yeah i'm pretty thirsty right yeah and this
uh we own the show today there's no guests We're not revolving our schedule around anyone.
We're on our own schedule.
We just do whatever we want.
I mean, we do have, of course, those sponsors we had to get to in the middle of the episode.
Yeah, we are hamstrung a little bit by the sponsors.
Or boosted by them.
Yeah, that's true.
That's true.
So, okay, I'm going to need, this is a guest though, Tanner.
This is a what's in that can.
Okay, this is a what's in the can.
I don't think we've done this one.
I don't think we have.
So this is all new.
Are you ready?
Yep. Let's do it. it okay it's a can oh it's a full-size regular 12
i think the smell might hit you right away even
oh smells peachy.
Ah, I just think it's peach.
Do you really?
Let me see if there's any other.
I'm just going to go with peach.
Maybe I'm a little wrong.
What else is like a peach? Well, let's say you just go with peach. Maybe I'm a little wrong. What else is like a peach?
Well, let's say you just go with peach.
How about... Okay, I'll just say peach.
It is actually strawberry cucumber.
Nailed it.
You were pretty confident about that one.
I guess it does taste like strawberry now that I...
Oh, there's the cucumber.
Yeah.
That flavor that goes with everything.
Nailed it.
That may be the most wrong I've gotten one.
You know what my problem is?
I got cocky.
I think so.
I've done some good ones lately, and I'm like, I know my sparkling waters now.
I don't know why I said that.
Now that I know it's strawberry, I for sure taste the strawberry flavor.
You know, you think you get that idea in your head, and it's hard to shake it.
It's weird, and it's not that there's a lack of flavor,
because this is a very flavorful one.
It's almost just like something not connecting in my brain,
where I know and recognize the flavor,
but it's just not hooked up to the right.
So that is an aha, strawberry cucumber, this fine-eating tanner.
A real aha moment for me. That is an aha strawberry cucumber this fine evening tanner a real aha moment for me that was an aha moment would you say in any level could you taste that there's cucumber in this
no that would just be if you said if i said strawberry and you said and and i said strawberry
and and you kept pressuring me i'd say what's that flavor that goes in everything? Is it cucumber?
Yeah, that's the only time I'd get it
is if you pressured me.
Do you think they even,
this is a funny question,
do you think they do anything
to flavor this as cucumber
or is that purely marketing?
Are they just like,
yeah, cucumber.
It's just a marketing technique.
We just put the word cucumber on it.
Do you think they sell more of these because they can call it strawberry cucumber
or to have another flavor or, you know, like.
Because do they have a regular just strawberry?
That would be the real test of it.
If there's an aha strawberry and you put it on next, what's the difference?
That is.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You're doing some real critical thinking of the sparkling water game here.
Things that will make you say, aha.
So full flavor, though.
Yeah.
It's just weird how I was so wrong.
So on that peach game.
Yeah.
It's a little disappointing.
I let a lot of people down.
I think in like three and a half JD powers on this one, maybe.
This tastes almost exactly like a three and a half jd powers on this one maybe this tastes
almost exactly like a three and a half jd power and associates award it's right in that sweet spot
this is you know that's a running joke the 3.5 jd power and associates awards but it is funny
how often that yeah right yeah like i know almost exactly what a 3.5 tastes like at this point and it's
everything except for um maple water and kombucha except for the best of the best and the worst of
the worst yeah it's a three and a half it is good though good so we have we actually have quite a
bit to talk about this week tanner we do and the first one the
elephant in the room is black friday yep and black friday was great it was it was really good not
just black friday the two days leading up to black friday right the two days after and cyber monday
yeah huge days for us it ended up being enormous for us it was the best month in the history of
mass and the best month in the history of Masonomics. The best month in the history of Masonomics.
And it's literally like just getting,
as we're recording this,
I've just earlier today kind of finished
packing the last of the Cyber Monday stuff.
And I was just a little tired of packing the stuff
by that point in time.
I just like, it was pretty daunting at times.
I stayed on it pretty hard over,
you know, I was home like Friday, Saturday, Sunday, the crazy one right away. The number of people that were sending
photos of orders they placed on what day Friday. Yeah. They had it on Monday. Yeah. That's fast.
Yes. They don't call us the Amazon prime. I get confused because everyone's talking about,
make sure you order early this year because the delivery services are going to be so backed up.
Like they make it sound like if you order stuff right now, right now being the first week in December, you're going to be lucky to get it for Christmas.
That's how they frame this.
And we packed those like people ordered on Friday and had it on Monday across the country.
That's USPS.
Right.
Not overnight shipping or anything.
Maybe we were ahead of the, you know, maybe because, cyber uh black friday is a big deal for all internet based i don't know i ordered some
stuff on saturday and it's it's set to arrive on friday like and that was just pain yeah that
wasn't any special shipping so i i would say this and this isn't a holiday thing. It's been a, I guess, COVID thing or whatever,
but international shipping is insanely slow.
Is it?
Like, pretty much, I guarantee,
I can almost bank on when someone orders something internationally.
Right now, they're going to be emailing in a month or two
to ask where they're at.
That's slow.
Like, not Canada, though though right or no not canada
canada is maybe a little slow too but not like that but i'm more talking like australia uk that
sort of thing like there was just someone today i think it was big jonte if i remember right
australian customer ordered something in august that showed up today
like most most of the times in the email I say,
here's what the tracking shows.
I can see when it left the U S and like,
and I just say things are going insanely slow.
I know it seems crazy,
but it's probably on the way.
And like,
I guess give it like a couple more months and if it doesn't show up,
maybe we can do something.
But like basically it always,
it,
I mean it,
it always shows up.
It's just been,
it's taking like
four months that is can you even understand how or why that's what i'm thinking in my head is like
okay well where is it where is it it's not in transit like it's not shipping this whole time
that means it's got to just sit in a warehouse and it seems like it'd be really expensive to
just be holding packages and warehouses right right wow that one was august and here we are
i thought you're gonna say someone ordered something last month and they just got it no no a month would be fast so yeah if you're an
international uh customer don't order something for christmas right now that is because you don't
get it but yeah we we shipped out you know in like that one week time we shipped out i would say
probably more packages more orders than we ever have in that, in a time window like that.
And which is awesome.
Yeah.
And it's like we sold, we've selling like everything, you know, we talked about it.
There wasn't like one was just the best seller.
I mean, there was definitely things that sold better than others, but yeah, it was like the entire catalog was getting hit, which was pretty cool too.
Right.
A lot of people did have gotten the new Alemonia.
So I'm curious to start hearing some people, you know,
cause that's different.
We, there's not a lot of feedback on a shirt.
It's like, Oh,
it looks cool cause it looks like exactly what I thought it looked like.
Or, you know, if we're doing our job, right.
We take good pictures of it.
You get it.
There's no surprises.
I mean,
the only time we should really hear back is if there's something wrong or
you're just so absolutely jacked on a shirt right you know people are but it does happen
um yeah it's it's not uh it's not the unexpected like the ammonia though so uh you're wearing the
lift fast t and on our street they just put up one of those uh signs the street i live in one of those sign
digital signs that it reads out how fast you're going it blinks if you're going too fast they put
it up yesterday so me and the family had to go today tonight here before i came over and we did
the michael scott thing we're running down the street to see and i was 32 it's a 32 yeah yeah
and we uh that we actually had that jack actually got to do that because he
watches the office too and he knew he knew that scene so he waited and did it when a car drove by
too but i was thinking it would make for a funny video if someone was wearing the shirt shirt it
would work um yeah so but we did do that and it worked too i was like that i actually actually
was skeptical that it was even going to record. It did while he was running, actually? Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Every single time.
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
No, you can just go run by those.
I don't know how accurate they are.
No, it worked every time.
I thought you were saying you were going like while a car was.
No.
Well, I mean, we did do that because that was the joke that Michael did.
So you could fly by on your bike and it'd get you?
Yeah.
Okay, cool.
Yeah.
I don't know if it becomes less accurate if you're too small or whatever,
but no, it worked every single time.
Wow.
I have to make my way over to your neighborhood
to do some testing.
This is one of our last few days
in that neighborhood, so we're like,
they waited until now to get one of these for us?
We could have been running at this thing every night.
All the toys are going in the neighborhood after we're going to leave.
Yeah.
You can't have it all can you no you can't
anything else about the black friday cyber monday sale i guess it just went really good
yeah i think it was just a overall a crazy busy good time for massonomics and uh it's gonna be a
lot more massonomic stuff out in the world yeah that's for sure that is i am expecting kind of
anticipating that a lot of stuff to share around, like people getting their stuff.
So it got me thinking today, when I was at the gym,
you know, we always have our feature presentation going,
and what's the name, is it Eddie Hall Strongman?
Is that the one?
No, this isn't Eddie Hall.
This is Born Strong?
Born Strong, yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah, they are two different movies.
It's a good movie, too.
I forget that they are actually.
There was an Eddie Hall documentary, yeah.
So, yeah, the Born Strong documentary is playing,
and it was at the part where they're at the Arnold
doing the deadlift
and it's showing all of the people in the crowd at the Arnold.
And I just want to think that
when that ever happens again,
they'll cut to the crowd
and you're just going to see people wearing Masonomics stuff.
You're like, there it all is.
We knew it had to go somewhere.
People were wearing this Masonomics stuff.
The funny part is not in that year, but in a lot of those years.
We were right up front.
Yeah, and there is like a whole bunch of Masonomics stuff right in the front row,
but not that year.
That was the year before we went for the first time.
That also was, looking back now, that was kind of like a special little.
That was like of the Arnold.
I would say that is like a pinnacle of the arnold strongman competition that and even like this time in strongman because you had like that was like
the first time where you're getting like these just massive people yeah for the first time right
and it was like the three of the biggest guys ever like as far as not just fat but but like
you know brian shaw half thor and then Eddie Hall, just how big he was too.
That was such an unusual time
that we're just getting all three of those guys like that.
And having like two of the greatest.
He was starting to just kind of.
Right, but he still won.
Like he won actually.
He wins that year even.
So it's like Brian Shaw and Big Z,
two of arguably the greatest to ever compete
are still like, Brian was in his prime at the time
and Z was right on the tail end of his yeah yeah it really is like you don't it doesn't have and
and half thor was on the come up right and eddie hall was at his peak right basically right it
really was it was kind of like for that era that was kind of like the golden time for that era yeah
that was that's almost like the perfect competition right there that it's like
where you look back and you're like man i would love to see all those i know and we just missed
it by like a year i know because like now it is still it it would be really fun to go but even
this year it was assuming the arnold was normal this year like it was a very different lineup
right it wasn't no it's not it doesn't have that feel like it doesn't have that star power
but yeah it's just it is just different and there is that yeah those It doesn't have that star power that that show had.
It is just different.
And there is that...
Yeah, those guys all do have that star power factor.
I'm not saying people like Matthias don't.
Martins.
But it just was a different thing there.
Mostly, I think, because people were so in awe at the size of these guys.
It's that guy from Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones is also one of the biggest shows in the world at the time.
Yeah.
from Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones is also one of the biggest shows in the world at the time.
Yeah.
And it was almost different with Thor
because he wasn't like world's strongest man,
deadlift record Thor,
yet it was still kind of like,
oh, isn't that the mountain?
You know, where it's like,
oh, that's the mountain.
And then he's like,
oh, yeah, you watch.
And it's the guy that always kind of messes up
like one event to take himself out of the lead.
Times have changed. It was, yeah. But that's the movie that's on on repeat at the gym right now for now people were probably worried about what movie we were playing you know it is nice to get
a break from west side versus the world that we that one had a stretch for quite a while at the
gym did and what was the there's another what's the other power lifting documentary that we have
on there you may have not recognized it's not West Side vs. the World, but it's.
Oh, is it Power Unlimited?
Yeah, Power Unlimited.
I've never actually seen that one all the way through.
Yeah, that one has no subtitles is the bad part about that one.
These other ones have subtitles so you can kind of read what's going on as you watch it.
You know, usually there's the music playing in the gym and everything else too.
Yeah.
Sometimes on a day when I'm not busy and don't have a lot going on i'll i will catch 10-15 minutes of it before i put the music on if i'm the only one there like oh yeah this is a good
movie that's you know you start putting your shoes on yeah and you're kind of sexy and every time it
does okay tanner are we gonna do q's and a's well we got one more thing to talk about we do like
okay good so this is for all the spotify users out there yeah for all the spotify users out there
or people that are just on social media you are now subjected also to what spotify users do but
spotify has their their year in review i think they call it wrapped. So you're 2020 wrapped. And it was today was when it came out.
And a lot of Masonomics was on that list for a lot of people.
There was a lot of Masonomics.
And there was some shocking stats.
So for people that aren't familiar with it, Spotify, the app, it tells you,
it basically does like a summary at the end of the year.
It gives you analytics on your top artists, how many hours you listened to them,
what your top songs were, your top genres genres all that stuff about what you did and then if you listen to podcasts on spotify it will also give you some statistics along your
podcast i don't listen to podcasts on spotify use a different app for that so i don't get any of that
stuff but um as far as like my music and stuff goes it's always cool to see like oh you listen
to i think for me it was 32 000 minutes of music it's always cool to see like, Oh, you listen to, I think for me, it was 32,000 minutes of music.
It's like,
Oh,
that seems like a lot of music.
Like,
yeah,
I guess it's not an insane amount,
but you know,
and then to,
Oh yeah,
I did listen to that song a lot.
Oh yeah.
I forgot.
I listened to them for like six months nonstop.
Not so much lately.
So it is fun to look back on,
but there was some crazy stats that people had screenshots of for the
massonomics podcast.
One,
I was just shocked to see how many people had us as their're in their top one or even their top five yeah it's just
funny that that that even happens but we're in a lot of good company in those other fives like all
recognizable yeah like like some very serious strength training podcast and the massonomics
like oh one of these doesn't belong yes but a few of the stats though tanner you you had them say there was uh somebody
that at first ones i saw like a max that someone it would give you a start of how you binged how
many episodes you listened to in one day so some people had four or five four or five in a day
then i saw someone that had eight in a day and then i saw someone that had 14 episodes in one day
and it makes you wonder is did you actually listen to all 14?
Or were they playing in the background?
Because I listen to a lot of podcasts.
And on the weekend when I'm working on stuff, I have my AirPods in and I'll listen to a lot of stuff.
And there's nothing I could listen to for that long.
I listen to a lot of podcasts.
Usually after so many podcasts, I have to just stop and put on music because I'm like, I can't.
It gets annoying listening to someone talk.
Right.
Listening to people talk that long.
Not us, though.
No.
Not you listening to us right now.
When I say annoying, I'm saying we're the exception here.
But the five and eight hour ones, that's believable.
But that's still a lot of podcasts listening in one day.
Then a lot of times people shared how many minutes of the podcast
they listened to for the year.
Someone had one that was over 15,000 minutes of the podcast.
Of Massonomics listening.
Which would be like 245 hours or something.
Yeah, which is basically every episode.
Yeah.
But several people were messaging in then that they are frustrated that they don't listen on Spotify.
So we got more messages of that than we did of people sharing. People feeling left out. Yeah, that are like, well, dang it. I do that too, but I don't listen on uh spotify spotify so we got more messages of that than we
did of people left out yeah that are like well dang it i do i do that too but i don't i don't
listen on spotify so it turns out must be a lot of people don't listen to podcasts on spotify
yeah but there was a fair fair number that do and then what was it i guess it was just the list then
where we fit in the top oh yeah top five and there's just a lot of those but yeah that was cool to see yeah so thank you to everyone that listens to right right
tell a friend tell a friend it's still awesome to us that people uh do listen to this though it's
crazy mind-blowing after all these weeks that people still tune in but yep it's fun we haven't
lost them yet not quite yet okay today's feature presentation Tanner yeah we haven't lost them yet. Not quite yet.
Okay.
Today's feature presentation, Tanner.
Yeah, we haven't done a Q&A for a long time.
Yeah, Ask Mathonomics.
It has been a while.
We haven't vetted these questions.
We haven't vetted them at all.
I'm sure there's going to be, there's a lot of questions this time.
Most we've ever had.
So that's good. I guess we'll try to get through all of them.
I'm assuming there's some duplicates in there.
Yeah. There's probably also some questions we've had every single time we've ever had so that's good we'll try to i guess we'll try to get through i'm assuming there's some duplicates in there yeah and probably also some questions we've had every single time we've done
this so we probably don't need to go super in depth yeah some we're not we might just be little
one word answers and we'll move on to the next because yeah yes usually we do get a handful that
are always the same uh the same ones um let let's just jump right in should i read who sent it sent him in or
yeah we'll do that and these are and these are all off of instagram you put a
you put a post in our story today yeah yes yes this first one's from
andrew baker and he says when was the last time you went to olive garden
oh oh yeah when was the last time last time last time um mine was about a year and a half we don't
have an olive garden our town right so you don't just accidentally drop into olive garden we don't
have an olive garden a chili's or an applebee's yeah so it's hard for us to stay middle class
can it really be an american city without those things we don't have them we've got ruby tuesdays
that is the closest and we've got a buffalos as our closest. That is the closest.
And we've got a Buffalo Wild Wings now.
Yeah, we do got a B-Dubs.
But Olive Garden, yeah, about a year and a half ago for me.
I probably haven't been there since I was like 20.
It's been a long time.
Yeah, I mean, not even remember.
I think I've been there twice in my life.
I would say I haven't been there in 10 to 15 years.
Wow.
I don't dislike it.
I guess it's just I haven't been in the right situation to go.
I don't know enough about the,
because I don't go to Olive Garden enough to know what the rules are.
But when my wife was graduating from her master's program,
we had to go to where the school was located.
It was actually in Sioux City.
So we were in Sioux City, and it was late. like late it's like oh we just need to get some food and
olive garden was right there so we're like okay let's go to olive garden that would be the scenario
where i would go and we both we both like it so it's like it's not like it was a compromise or
anything like oh all gardens good yeah and um it was a little later but when we left they said do
you guys want like soup and breadsticks for the road and we're like well like like do we want to buy something like no we got extra like sure and they gave us like two huge
bowls of soup and a bunch of breadsticks and then we got to our hotel room and there was no fridge
so it all went to waste but yeah i was like i don't know if that's i don't know if that's a
normal thing for olive garden sometimes it's the thought that counts too it was i was i was happy
with him for that anytime someone's giving me free food i mean that's and you haven't been back since so i have been that was like two years ago
and then i went again not that long later after that actually but yeah that's all garden garden
is kind of in a weird zone for me where since if we had one in our town i would for sure i would
have eaten there this year but since we don't have one here and so if i'm going to sioux falls for example a closer city that would have one that's not what you're going to use your
no you're not going to punch your dining right right i'm like yeah if we're going somewhere
like really to like hey we got let's go do this thing you know yeah that's probably not somewhere
different right right the nice fast food sit down place right um but i i don't think there's anything i think olive garden is probably good i just it's been so long're going to use the nice fast food sit-down place. Right. But I don't think there's anything wrong.
I think Olive Garden's probably good.
I just, it's been so long, I don't even have an opinion.
Okay.
This is from The Galaxy Part 2.
Where did the piping hot LaCroix meme come from?
Do you know?
I don't think I know.
You know, so obviously LaCroix had been a thing for a while.
And I can't remember.
I think, I don't know that we can even take 100% credit for it.
I think that was one that was developed a little bit by the listeners.
I don't know.
Maybe we said something.
I honestly don't know.
I can't remember.
You know, I know we got into this talk of like all the different temperatures of, you know, LaCroix that you can have. And I don't know i can't remember you know i know we got into this talk of like all the different temperatures of you know la croix that you can have and i i don't remember that's one of those
ones that goes down in like massonomics folklore of yeah i i don't know inside jokes like that is
a good synopsis like of massonomics is like after a while we don't even remember where these things
came from it just has a life of its own yeah i couldn't tell you i i honestly could not tell
you where that came from so neither of us know i don't think i came up own. I couldn't tell you. I honestly could not tell you where that came from.
So neither of us know the answer to that. I don't think I came up with it.
I don't think you came up with it.
I definitely know we never had a conversation like,
let's talk about hot LaCroix.
I know for a fact that didn't happen.
Like that did kind of happen with Jefferson deadlifts.
Yeah, that one did.
There was an aha moment where we said like,
yeah, this should be a thing that we talk about.
Yeah, the temperature thing.
That's it.
Maybe someone out there knows. Please about. Yeah, the temperature thing. That's it. Maybe someone out there knows.
Please tell.
Yeah, someone will know.
Any of these questions, if someone knows the answers to and we don't,
please follow up with us next week so we can get some clarity.
A lot of times what we'll get is someone will send us the episode
and say this is when.
You said it right here.
Oh, I think it's best when it's hot.
Yeah.
After that.
Would be interesting to know that one to get some spite.
This is from also from the galaxy part two to get some spicy drama.
What lifter slash Instagram personality do you want to call out?
That's,
this is kind of what we try to bust other people on.
Yeah.
And I don't like anyone that's annoying.
I don't even,
I,
I don't follow you if I think you're right at all yeah um and i've also noticed i think a lot of
people it is crazy that a lot of people that i even would have you know you always kind of have
a few people that you think are annoying and you kind of follow them just to be like yeah all right
let me see what you're doing i gotta keep tabs on you the number of people that i think instagram has not you know i'm using the
in quotes here influencer instagram hasn't been kind to a lot of those people this year right um
right it's true like and it's hard for good people and companies to make it in instagram right now
like to be to make progress not saying we're amazing posters but we put two posts a day
a lot of days those are two original actual post like two originally produced content like not just oh here's me lifting or here's
someone else lifting it's original content and even that instagram throttles down hard a lot
of the time yeah so all these people that just post really lame photos of themselves are just
unentertaining lifting videos right just more like instagram has just destroyed your reach yeah and i
think a lot of people have gotten the message because a lot of people i think have really
drastically reduced how much they post right i think so because they're like well i no one gets
it's not working all i do is i just literally lose followers every day um instagram clearly
doesn't like what i'm doing so what's the point yeah um so i think i don't know instagram's getting
the last laugh on a lot of people right now yeah i think you're right and but for me really if i had to for me for what i hate or want to call
out it's just i cannot do the the fitness inspirational right i just for sure i mean
inspirational stuff in general like yes you know we like i it's obvious we don't do that yeah and
like i run i run i make my living doing a freelance
you are not you are an entrepreneur like and it's so like there's there are good business like you
want to follow like some business-minded accounts they so so many of them like immediately turn into
just the dumb fit are uh inspirational stuff like almost like gee. Oh, and I just can't.
It's just,
who,
like the amount of inspiration
out there for people in the world
is bottomless.
But it's just,
I just don't care about it.
And like everyone's like
so preachy and annoying
and I'm just,
like none of that stuff
connects with me at all.
Me either.
Like it's like,
oh, you have a story to tell?
Don't care.
Like that's immediately,
even when I watch TV,
like you want to watch a game show on TV i don't usually watch those my wife has them on
oh let's get this person's story no i don't care about their story just let them play the damn
game like i like everything has to have a story and it's so annoying well we talked about that
with um what was the rock show oh um like everyone has a thing it can't just be like this guy's really fit like that's
not good enough i actually heard i think it was hayden and steffi talking about it i think
one of those i think hayden had maybe had an interview for the titan games and he talked about
how they were like pressing him to find something drama and like his his his grandfather had died and
hayden was very like mad of the fact matter matter of fact about it and they're like well wasn't that
like an emotional experience for you and he was like oh i mean he had lived a good life you know
like it wasn't like that's kind of what old people do yeah you're right like but they were he made it
sound like they were really digging for this uh hook of like
you know his life that's like so dramatic and so just everything has to have a story it's like it
can't just be just having talent isn't good enough for a lot of this stuff right and it's like the
whole point of this thing is talent but you also try to make it this this deep story and it's yeah
um so yeah i guess for me i just can't do anything that even seems remotely like preachy.
Like, hey, you can do this.
Cheer up.
Like the second it's the second I'm actually at the point where almost the second anything
tries to be encouraging.
I'm like, no, I'm out.
Like, oh, this has positivity to it.
No, I don't need any of it.
I don't want encouragement.
I don't want positivity.
Nope.
I just want just give it to me straight.
That's kind of where I'm at with that stuff.
Yeah.
And I guess we're probably both alike that neither of us need a lot of like external I just want just give it to me straight. That's, that's kind of where I'm at with that stuff. Yeah. I think,
and I guess we're probably both alike that neither of us need a lot of like
external motivation for drive and stuff like that.
Like we kind of probably have that figured out ourselves.
So it's like where I'm not going to Instagram to,
you know,
be like,
I need it.
You know,
I was going through a really tough time,
but I found this post on Instagram.
I mean,
that happens to people.
I'm sure that's never happened to me. Right. Never. Right. Like I would just was struggling until I found this post on instagram i mean that happens yeah i'm sure that's never happened to me right never right like i would just was struggling until i found
this post or this person on instagram that really connected with me well they're probably obviously
there are people that there is and if you do that's great but that doesn't happen to me no
like that's all that's the whole thing like with mark bell's preachy thing it's like that doesn't
connect with me one bit of me either of mark bell you've sold out you bought a lot of stuff in china
and you sold it cheap and now all of a bell you've sold out you bought a lot of stuff in china
and you sold it cheap and now all of a sudden you're inspirational about how to run a business
i don't know that's not that inspiring to me at all no um have you seen the thing that they made
that's like the board no oh someone did say we need to bring back fitness as fine i was actually
thinking about that the other day and that should come back it's just when we have guests we only
have like 30 minutes and we guys we're just gonna start turning the
podcast into like a two-hour podcast stanner what is this thing called was it on his main page
yeah look i'm like i think it's probably on everybody's page now and i'm not i don't know
about anything about it so i don't don't want to. I'm not just saying it just to dog on it,
but it's worth looking at to see what it exactly is here.
It's some, I don't know if it's like a tricep board
or what the product is.
And we've got to be able to.
Like, was this recent?
Yeah, yes.
It's got a catchy little name to it if you look on like what's it what's oh is it this thing right here um right there yes what is that thing called
uh bicep board yeah bicep board yes
i'm this is probably really boring to listen to,
but I'm just watching this video on Instagram.
So someone did say we need to bring that back onto fitness's finest,
the bicep board.
And the best I can tell,
it's like a board that you,
you can put a dumbbell in the center of it.
Like,
Oh,
here we go.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Here.
I keep hitting the volume up here. right i know a lot of you guys have a really hard time building up the peak of the bicep
my buddy mike here mike frank is going to show me how we build up the bicep peak with the bicep
board okay so it's a flat board with a hole in it. That you put your dumbbell in, and then you do curls with your palms flat on the board
instead of grabbing around the barbell or a dumbbell.
I'm sure it gives you a bicep workout,
but I feel like we're venturing into,
this is fitness's finest territory.
Does it fit under the bed?
Yes, it does.
This totally does. That would fit fit under the bed? Yes, it does. Like, this totally does.
That would fit easily under the bed.
So, is this actually his, though?
Or is it someone?
No, I think it's his.
I don't know if it's marketed exactly as theirs or what it is.
But, yeah, maybe there's a partner.
I don't know.
But so, does it fit under the bed?
It fits under the bed, right?
It would fit under your car seat, it looks like. Yeah. Yeah yeah the original bicep board launched on uh november 2nd it looks
our 21 days oh it launched on the 23rd so it just launched yeah wow yeah we can we'll do a
fitness's finest on some of this stuff here yeah but yeah um i don't even remember how we got here
we're talking about inspirational fitness stuff that's probably good on that one yeah i think so this is from grayson phillips we know him when will tommy and tanner's anticipated
return to the platform be that's a good question i what kind of platform like a political platform
so i don't even know you know usually we are historically we had always done this uh
um state meet in south dakota which was in march yeah um the last couple years we've gone to the
arnold which was right around that same time not exactly at the same time so we could do them both
but um this past year nothing happened because of covid right and then this coming year i don't know is there one in
march i know for sure that i will not be ready to do it but no i would say i am my training is i'm
happy to report on the up and up it's going getting better every day after a brutal year
year and a half yeah yeah but um i would say the earliest for me would be like about a year like the fall of 2021
oh next fall that'd be the soonest i would consider yeah more realistically probably uh
um spring of 2022 which seems so far away but i mean really that's like a little over a year away
yeah that's probably realistically well and also because i don't want to do with covid time yeah
and i don't want to do no one wants to do a meet where it's like oh i came in and my total was a couple hundred
pounds less than my best like right that's just not very fun no i didn't need to pay a bunch of
money and go do this to prove that to myself so that's probably where i'm at tan what about you
oh there there is i'm teetering on it if if covid didn't exist right now i'd probably be signed up for one but my thing is
a big thing about a meet historically for all the ones that we've done is i've always gone
and done them with a group of my buddies every everyone i've done what you know i've done like
20 some strongmen and powerlifting meets and everyone i've done every single one i've gone
and done them with a group of my buddies and that's why I like them. Like that's the fun part about it. Yeah. Right. And like, it's the hanging out and the, uh,
warmup room stuff and like the lifting of coal, of course is fun and hitting a PR is great. But
the big thing for me is like, it's fun to go do it with my friends. If I just go do it by myself
with nobody else, I know I could just stay and do this. Right. So my thing with COVID is if,
if there's like a bunch of restrictions around the meet
about like, yeah, no, only this group can be in here at that point in time.
I'm not complaining that that's a thing.
It makes sense that there's rules.
But that just takes away a lot of what I think is fun about it.
And I'm not going to do it if it's not fun.
The reason I do this stuff is because I think it's fun.
Yeah, absolutely.
So if it's not fun for me, because that i'm much less interested in it uh that being said there is one in fargo
in february so this february 2021 which is only like three months away that i have considered
doing and probably i really would have signed up for it if not for the covet thing but i'm just not
100 comfortable that a even will go on for sure like i don't want to
sign up for one and then have it be canceled like fargo north dakota is uh right up there and with
south dakota right right like exactly so you know if it's going to get canceled they're going to be
way weird rules and stuff i'm not all that interested in it but so i am i am considering
doing on i that's kind of had been my goal is
like this winter i wanted to do when i had torn my acl it's been like a year and a half of training
back to like now i'm like just now within the last couple months i'm at a point with my training
where i'm like back to relative strength levels of where i'm like i can like utilize programming
other than just like linear like just do a little bit more
slowly over time i'm actually the point now where i feel like oh yeah i'm hitting some numbers where
i'm like that was really hard and it's like not my knee that's limiting it's just like needing to
get stronger and there's actually some peaks right in in the training yeah so my training is going
really well like you know i'm hitting numbers that i haven't done for a long time i mean i haven't done for a long time because i've done this year and a half
long rehab thing been able to do that right right so i'm getting close there and i'm i don't know
when so i don't know when the meat will be if not for covet it would probably i probably do one this
winter already that was what i would say but just kind of waiting feeling that out because i want it
to be fun yep i think there's a lot of people that are probably not.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I'm not that much of a diehard with the competing anymore that I need to go do one
just to scratch my itch of that.
Like define you.
I do like the competing and it's fun.
Oh, it is.
Yeah.
But like that goes back to me.
It has to be fun.
Yep.
I would say for me, that's the biggest, like, you know, Garrett fear kind of talked about
it, like getting nervous or
having anxiety for me and i for sure like if i signed up for a meet i for sure would be anxious
and nervous about it but for me after doing you know over time it's shifted way more into the
onto the fun side of things right and away from the anxious side of things like like you used to
be almost good yeah it used to be almost all on the anxious side right and now it's started to
shift more to the other side yeah and i get that and um i guess the other clarification as i over the
years i've done many power lifting meets and many strongman things i am going to do a power lifting
meet is going to be the first thing i do again i don't know if i'll do strongman again at all
actually i think you said you were officially retired yeah so i am planning on doing a power
lifting meet because i feel like those movements have very,
you know, I've gotten those to a place where the-
Less opportunity for it.
Yeah, like not gone, but like-
For a year plus setbacks.
Yeah, probably minimized it as much as I could.
Like I'm pretty comfortable with those at this point.
So that would be my plan of attack there.
I should read some ads, Tanner,
before we get too far into this.

Yeah, front and back.
Is it collated?
Don't even get me started on those terms, Tanner.
Today's show is brought to you by Texas Power Bars.
Buddy Caps first started lifting weights in the late 60s
and began powerlifting in the mid-70s.
At the time, he was working for Image Barbell building gym equipment. Around 1976, a local machine shop started making Olympic bars
for them, calling it the Image Bar. In 1977, Image Barbell became Champion Barbell. It was then that
Buddy started looking at the bars with an intent of changing them for the better. In 1979, Buddy
bought his first lathe to begin addressing the known issues.
In 1980, his passion, drive, and purpose now had a greater mission. Buddy set out on his own to
make what he believed was the greatest bar he'd ever seen and trained with, and the Texas Power
Bar was born. It was strong as a house with the best knurling and was maintenance-free. Hundreds
of state, national, international, world, and massonomics powerlifting records have been and
continue to be set and broken on the Texas Power Bar. To learn more about Texas Power Bars and buy one
of the legendary bars, visit texaspowerbars.com. And last but not least, this episode is brought

okay are we ready to hop back in we got more hot ones i'm going in why is my aberdeen why does my
aberdeen beat your aberdeen this is from a kiddo and i don't know if he's from aberdeen scotland
or which we do have a few Aberdeen,
Scotland.
Is there an Aberdeen,
Maryland too?
That could be too.
I think that sounds right.
Well,
I don't know that it's true.
First of all,
he's just making some assumptions there.
I don't guessing his Aberdeen isn't in Western Northeast,
South Dakota.
They definitely don't have that.
The direction's working in their favor and they don't have a top five fitness
podcast.
They don't have a top five South Dakota fitness podcast in their state.
That's for sure.
Yeah.
So I guess the jury's still out on that one.
Yeah.
Scott Dodd says,
what do you like more lifting hard or living easy?
Can you have one without the other? Yeah know there's the balance there and the yin and the yang yeah uh both sides of the force i think
so yeah i don't i think it's equal yeah yeah you have to have both you know you might go a little
harder on one but you just make up for it the next time yeah you just go easier on the other yeah yeah it's a trick question that
that is it's a conundrum scott dawes says why does tanner always lift in those green shorts
you have the world's supply of lift shorts you know people make the assumption that just because
you sell lift shorts you can afford lift no we i cannot afford those are expensive we need to sell
a lot more stuff for me to be able to afford
lift yeah yeah we can't just be liquidating our entire company by giving the owners lift shorts
i will people have like several people have asked me i don't green must be an odd oddish color of
shorts because i do wear them quite i actually had to think for a second a lot of people were
talking about them i don't know it's an old pair of uh my high school uh that is
an old pair at this point and they're i just like them and they are champions they are on the lift
shorts essentially they're tana your high school is on it yeah yep i knew it was up lift shorts
before lift shorts for lift shorts scott dodds also says what's your max jefferson
i have no idea what max jefferson is i think i've maxed it yeah i max
out in any lift so rarely yeah right that right right um i think i've done uh five plates i i
don't think my jeff just the way jefferson feels to me i don't think my max jefferson would be more
than my regular deadlift for some people it is yeah for some people like that i know it's they get
some benefit out of that uh for me that would be a a tricky one that's would take even more
getting used to still yeah so i don't know five plates i guess is my my max pick one strong man
or power lifting as a competitor or it doesn't say as far as watching goes spectator strongman yes hands down right like
not even a um as far as training i don't know i've always i always just like doing barbell
training like that's the most fun like strongman stuff is fun to train but um barbell training is
always just really really fun so i would pick
a more power lifting style of training yep as far as competitions go i've done the masonomic
strongman competition but you know i i and that was fun but power lifting meets are really fun
just because you kind of do get time to hang out with your buddies right and lift with them right
so that that's my take on that question okay yeah i don't know i don't
really have an i like both uh strongman has kind of done me dirty over the last little i'm kind of
it has really kind of soured on a little bit so i guess that's how i would look at it but i i
you know honestly i i've i always enjoyed both that's i was always kind of in them
stuck in the middle where i just like to do both of them yeah and not good enough at either
for it to matter to right yeah exactly like that's uh who am i that it matters like that i'm like no
no you can't specialize in just lifting heavy that's not enough specialized for someone that's
very very intermediate at best like you need to really stick to just one and hammer that out
like get the best out of your group of four people you
know at one of those things like yeah like that's the goal okay that is the goal yeah from alex reef
he says how soon can we expect to see sparkling water apparel that's a fair question it's been
asked many times we've we've talked about a few things yeah i don't know if we have the golden
ticket idea we don't have the goal we like we you know we want something to be something we're
really excited about it's gotta pop yeah and we haven't quite found that thing that pops yet so
we're still we're still in the planning phase there but someday yeah i mean i think it's just
a matter of us us having the perfect idea that we want to ride with that that's what it is yeah
it's yeah gotta have a good idea right that's harder than you think i mean sometimes you know but the way it works we could
have an idea by the time this podcast right over and that is actually how that works we would act
on it right away right like when it happens you guys will know right it's definitely one that's
on our radar though like it's literally in our list of things we've we've bounced around multiple concepts so there are ideas out there it's just something there hasn't been something
that really grabs us so um ethan says is geared lifting making a comeback i don't think not as
far as i know i mean i'm not sure if that's serious or not but i guess if if it is it's
not within my sphere that i i've picked
up on that i would say that for sure not with anyone we know and not really with anyone we even
follow i really liked west side versus the world i like having michael fahey on the podcast i like
having greg penor on the podcast but greg even says he's like it's a shame that louis never
switched to raw you you know, like,
I don't know.
Yeah.
I mean,
I think the answer is no,
right?
I would agree.
Okay.
Uh,
Turner underscore Austin said,
is there another gym tour video in the works because of how outdated Coop's video is?
I actually think there should be.
Yeah.
Um,
yeah,
I've talked,
I've bounced around the idea for a long time of wanting to get a
gimbal for my big camera.
Right. That would be a fun project for, uh, once wanting to get a gimbal for my big camera right that would be a fun project yeah once i get it we could right because that would
be that actually at this point would be a pretty long video right because coops is a year and a
half old probably that's crazy is that right isn't it it was like he was here just yesterday i just
was pretty sure i just shortly moved into my house it was in the summertime right right i
hadn't lived here very long yeah. It's crazy it's been that
long. Yeah. Maybe this summer we'll
do another one. Yeah we got the new Ghost Run convention and other
things on the way that we could do a
really like where we you know
I think that people on YouTube might
want to see it too. People like those videos
you know. We could do that. We could do a studio
tour. We could do all types of stuff.
We could do a few more YouTube
videos. We could. it's more so just like
the time where it's like time you know oh it's like where do we balance prior prioritization of
what we're jobs because those stuff would be very cool and i could see them getting like people
being interested in them i thought about before like if we had a ton of time yeah like assuming
we didn't have families and jobs and massonomics i mean, Masonomics alone, just what it is right now.
A lot of time.
I mean,
we could put together some pretty legit review video,
right?
Right.
Like we could do a lot of stuff,
but there is just the thing of there's only so many hours in a day.
So that's true.
And we kind of,
at this point are prioritizing the podcast and the apparel,
the things we know we can do.
Yeah.
We have it down.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's yeah.
But I think there's a
there's opportunity there there is for sure if we just if massonomics was our full-time job
oh we could just like crush that stuff i think you know well what are we gonna do today you know
like let's do something cool today what what should it be yep um a tour a gym tour would be cool though connor casey says sweatshirts and shorts
or t-shirts and sweatpants
that is a good question that is i've never heard that before
and that's a good question actually at this second we're both wearing t-shirts and sweatpants yeah
i like earlier today we went on a walk a little, and I was wearing a sweatshirt and shorts.
I like sweatshirts.
I do like sweatshirts and shorts.
I do, too.
And around here, I feel like you'll see around here in the wintertime, people way sooner run into a store with, what, it'll be zero degrees with a sweatshirt and shorts.
Before, you'll probably see someone have sweatpants and a t-shirt running into a store i especially if you're factoring in
us being from western northeast south dakota like around the house i like t-shirt and sweatpants
inside my house i don't often wear a sweatshirt i let like the feeling yeah t-shirt that's how i am well see it's true because this is this is in a basement this is a basement studio and basements
in the midwest especially basements are always just cold yeah and uh so i'm a full time all this
time of year i'm full on typically sweatpants sweatshirt sweatpants sweatshirt yeah but
otherwise in the summer sweatsuit yeah in the summertime though i'm shorts and t-shirt or shorts and uh shorts and sweatshirt okay i overall i would go shorts and
sweatshirt yeah shorts and sweatshirt is great like in this climate like today is perfect example
like 30 almost 40 degrees yep it was awesome outside in shorts and a sweatshirt but if you're
in t-shirt and sweatpants that's cold like you
get cold yeah but you cannot get cold with the shorts like the shorts are okay you know there's
a difference there yep that's a good question though it is favorite movie it's a hard question
wow yeah um i don't know if i could just say like this is my all-time favorite movie right now yeah i don't
have really a good answer for that i'd have to do a lot of thinking i always like shawshank redemption
i've never seen all the shawshank redemption i always did like shawshank redemption i'm not sure
if it's my favorite or not yeah that is i mean a lot of that is one of the best movies ever made
though a lot of people say i for me like for a long time i heard a movie was always pulp fiction
i loved fiction i thought it was so good um whether that's still my favorite i don't know A lot of people say I, for me, like for a long time, I heard movies, always Pulp Fiction. I loved Pulp Fiction.
I thought it was so good.
Um,
whether that's still my favorite,
I don't know.
I don't know.
I feel like I don't watch enough movies now.
Yeah.
I watch TV shows too much.
Right.
Right.
And the wire Tanner,
I tell you what,
how do more people not talk?
Did you know,
did you know season two of the wire,
two of the main characters are Holly from the office.
And,
uh,
what's Idris Elba.
What,
what's he on the office?
What's his name?
You know,
the boss,
everyone.
Yeah.
I can't remember there.
They are two of the main characters in the,
the wire season two.
Yeah.
I'm just trying to just,
I can't think of anything until I can remember what his name is.
Uh,
like this is one of those times when there's like 1 000 people listening um uh wow okay tanner if this is i should know we do yeah
we do have to know this and we're gonna go ah yeah it is it is ah oh wait not yet It is. It is. Ah.
Oh, wait.
Not yet.
Okay.
Google.
I like how I type it.
Idris Elba office.
Doesn't.
Doesn't.
It just brings up the IMDB page. It brings up the IMDB page for the office.
It shows.
If we just keep talking, I know i'll remember it at some point in
time uh or i'll wake up in my bed tonight and be like that's it well now i have to go to his imdb
page because google just won't tell me did you know he's six two and a half tanner geez
tall guy tall guy me too wow imdb really kind of sucks um At least on a phone.
This is so annoying.
This is taking this long.
Idris Elba, The Office.
What could it be?
I hate Google so much right now.
Well,
I guess we just won't know this.
It just is so annoying that it won't come up.
This is from Mostly Squat Videos, a.k.a. Big Matt.
Why do you refuse to let people win more than one contest asking for a friend?
That's not an official rule.
No, no. I mean, if you literally had the best video ever made twice
yeah we would we would let you win right but um i'm not sure if i buy the asking for a friend thing
okay this is from kurt he says charles oh charles charles yeah there we go okay the show can go on
which ipa is best miller light bud light Light, Bush Lite, or Ham's Lite?
Okay, so this is a guy that gets IPAs.
Just four choices, though.
This is a guy that gets IPAs.
I'm struggling because my top IPAs aren't on the list of choices.
Your IPAs are kind of a regional IPA, Tanner.
Yeah, yeah, that's true.
A lot of people haven't had Mick Golden because it doesn't exist in other places.
Outside a lot of the upper Midwest. People haven't had Mick Golden because it doesn't exist in other places.
Outside a lot of the upper Midwest.
My more national wide, one of my favorite IPAs is Coors Light,
though also not on his list.
But he says Miller Lite, Bud Light, Bush Light, or Hams.
Yours is Bud Light, I'm guessing.
Yeah.
If I'm at a bar and I have to pick those beers, it's going to go this order.
It's going to go Bud Light, Bush Light, Miller Lite, H light light hams yeah right that's the correct order um and and really the difference between any of those is like a percentage point so
but i would also have said the same order it's not like the one i'm rating 100 and hams i'm
rating a 20 it's like uh they're all like within a point or two.
Right.
This is from T Smith.
He said,
would you consider hosting a multi-sport meet like the Wendler and OV strength
festival?
I mean,
it'd be cool,
but yeah,
that's actually like that hosting stuff is so much work.
Oh,
it is so much work. And, it is so much work.
And like depending on what you value as your rewards for your time put in.
Like do you value anything?
Like you have to just value the satisfaction of knowing you did something really cool.
Yeah, you put on a meet.
That's your reward basically.
Because that's like where we were at on the strong man um showdown like by the third one i'm like yeah we have this figured out that we could put
on something really cool here but it's a lot of work and is it worth it i think the other tough
thing for us is where we're located like we know that the majority of our competitor is going to
be local guys which is fine but we kind of know you kind of already know how we're all going to sit like it's it is way more
exciting when you're in a area where you can get people that are it's much easier for people to get
like they don't have to travel 10 hours to your thing and like the last time we did the strongman
competition we had guys traveling like five plus hours to come for this yeah and that's kind of
what has to happen so that is we
are at a little bit of a disadvantage just with the travel thing that's true i bet this is 100
theoretical and not not not something i want to pursue but if just say theoretically we wanted to
put on a top tier power lifting meet like get in the best and get pull in the sponsors and get the money and and be
up there with some of the best i think we could do it i think we could do not in covet times no no
no no no um i think it could be done and i think we could do it but even then i'm like and at the
end of the day was this bad like was there a return on like all this work i know we could
promote it locally at a level that we would pack the place right we would have i think hundreds of people and we know enough of the
lifters that i think we could get draw them in we have enough connection on the sponsor side of it
i think we could get the money there and sponsors just as well as someone else canon does uh but
boy that i've got a lot of respect uh for the crazy people that do that
stuff because that shit is a lot of work oh it is it is i was actually this is kind of off topic
but i think by the end of 2021 assuming the world kind of straightens out and it's not like crazy to
have like a huge gathering it would be fun to do like a massonomics mock meet yeah yeah yeah
well there's a lot of people that have talked about i know we did one we did a really small one yeah like you know where
there was like if people wanted to come in yeah like a little bit bigger of uh yeah yes yes right
i think that'd be a really fun thing to do like towards the end of 2021 if possible yeah there
may be something even before that where it's not like a people come watch thing but where it's
literally like the same thing we did before where it's like hey there's these like five or six people that wanted
to do a meet and we probably can't do one so we'll probably have these five or six people in there
right right but you know i would be that that is the thing that would happen there'd be this
transitional one where like oh this is almost a meet but still a little more focused on the fun
and just kind of the people we like to hang out with but yeah that that is a reality of something that could probably happen
this is from somebody and they say is the gym and pod both you guys's full-time jobs
it is not it is not at all not even close no i mean i shouldn't say not even close like i mean
it's like is borderline a full-time
like we put a ton of time in the economics but yeah we both have uh um for me my full-time it's
tommy d creative i have my own freelance like design website business and that is already
more than a full-time job yeah and uh tanner you just have on top of on top of the massonomics
duties that we both share and not to ourselves um you have a
a full-time job of yourself plus you have massonomics gym yeah i do have a massonomics
gym i have mass not i i probably undersell what it requires sometimes more so but it's it's pretty
it's easier run than probably your average gym i would say your average gym probably is like a multi-person full-time job just to keep think shit going right but i have it kind of down
where it's not um out of the three out of my job massonomics and massonomics gym massonomics gym
by far takes the least of my time like that kind of i've got that set up fairly automated, I guess I would say.
Yeah.
And like people get it.
Yeah, no, it's even just like the paperwork side of it takes some, like every month, like, you know, all the payments going through and like paying the sales tax.
Sales tax and just all that stuff.
Like the people that have these reimbursement programs through their insurance companies and verifying their check-ins and people emailing and needing their check-in
report and people needing invoices and staff.
So anytime someone wants to check it out,
you got to go meet them down.
And just,
yeah,
the,
just a new member thing.
Like I just did that last night.
It ends up being like a two hour thing.
Cause no one,
no one ever says like,
yeah,
I'm just going to swing in and they loop through and go,
okay.
Right.
No,
it's always like a minimum 45 minute conversation. How did I not know about this? Or yeah, I've been go, okay. Right. No, it's always like a talk about it. Minimum 45 minute conversation.
How did I not know about this?
Or yeah,
I've been looking at it for a long time and it's always a big
conversation.
Always is.
And I enjoy those conversations because it's fun for me and I like
showing the place off and everything,
but yeah,
there's all that stuff that does that out,
but no,
it's not.
I,
my job is I work for a big agricultural cooperative.
I'm a, basically a loan officer is most,
mostly what my job is.
So no,
definitely not our full-time job.
Don't know that that's ever necessarily been the goal.
No,
not really.
I mean,
it would be cool.
Like if all of a sudden massonomics is doing a million dollars a year,
if,
if it's,
if we can't make an excuse to not do it anymore like if we couldn't figure out a like we're
literally like well this is just such an enormous animal that we can't not have it be our full-time
jobs that would be pretty cool yeah you know if it's just like we like it was it like it's like
it's just insane for this not to be our full-time job at this point yeah that's that's probably that's what it would have to get to maybe that maybe that day will come so yeah i
mean we're closer to that today than we were a year ago or two years ago or three years ago than
we were two weeks ago even yeah yeah right true every day we get closer yep big uh button says
big alex says favorite superheroes why and why and if you could be villains what would your powers be
so when it says you think favorite superhero like superhero movie or I think hero I think superhero
oh boy I don't know if I know I don't really have a particular answer i honestly don't follow
the whole marvel or dc world very close yeah um it's the incredible hulk a cop-out answer that
everyone that lifts would say i don't think so yeah i think that's legit i would maybe just say
suit i mean superman is also pretty boring like i like his power set yeah it's just being like
superman's way too like like uh uh his power set is like he can kind of almost do whatever he wants.
That is the power set.
I don't know.
That's also, maybe I'm a weirdo.
I've never like super closely identified with any of the superheroes.
A lot of people love them.
And I get it.
They're crazy cool to watch.
Like there's a lot of shit going on.
I just don't follow them that
close i like christian bale batman but i don't know that was that was a good one um the other
part is what if you could be villains what would your powers be oh powers if you could be villains
what would your powers be so i feel like the assumption here is that it has to be like an evil power but uh any power can be evil if you're going to use it for evil so um i don't know
something along the lines of like like what you said superman said of like being able to fly or
have crazy strength those all seem like cool things don't they i mean just flying in general
i would be pretty down with being able to fly yeah let's solve a lot of issues if you could
just especially just fly real super fast like super's gonna be like damn that's just a sweet
power i don't have to ever get on a plane again yeah yeah or just i'd just go straight up
teleportation even like forget the novelty of being able to fly i just want to be wherever
anywhere in the snap of a finger and not have to get go through damn airport security yeah
that that would like screw even being rich enough to afford a private jet i just want to just pick boom i'm there yeah i don't even know
i feel like what i feel like most superheroes they're like powers are just some subset of being
like really strong and some obscure okay for the most part right like unless you're like aquaman
and you can like talk to like aquatic creatures but that's such a lame power to be right i sure as hell wouldn't choose that that would not be up on the list
um this is from zach and he's zach stinson what do the boys jam to in the gym well if you want to
know i have a uh you can hop on if you you're a Spotify user, you just hop on Spotify.
Also, Scantz made, did you see he had made a
Lift Hard Live Easy competition playlist?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right.
He actually made the Lift Hard Live Easy playlist.
Yeah, if you do go on Spotify and type in Massonomics,
there is a playlist called massonomics gym essentials
and pretty much everything that i regularly listen to the gym over the last few years is on there
it's eight hours and 30 minutes long so holy cow there's a lot in there so you just are always
adding things keep dumping stuff on it yeah um i i have removed some stuff over the years just
because i'm like i've heard this song way too many times and a lot of the gym essentials that people
have you know your acdc metallica that stuff i don't have it on here because it's on the other just because I'm like, I've heard this song way too many times. And a lot of the gym essentials that people have,
you know, your ACDC, Metallica, that stuff,
I don't have it on here because it's on the other 30 iPods
that live in the gym.
So I'm like, I don't need to put this on.
Those bases are already covered.
But it's a lot of, I don't know,
it probably sits a little more on like the dubstep hip-hop side of things.
But there's also, you know, your your classics in here like your motley crew and
your motorhead iron maiden system of a down that stuff so you can find most of the stuff that i'm
listening to in the gym or at least the classics on the massonomics gym essentials playlist
otherwise on spotify i like to if i need something different i'll throw it on like there's like a
beast mode playlist or like a i don't know like a dubstep playlist or something like that
just to get something different in my earphones.
And when I say earphones, I mean gym speakers.
Because we use speakers at the gym.
A lot of times, I'm sure we talked about this, there's like six old iPod touches.
And actually also iPod not touches.
The ones that actually have real hard drives with the scroll wheel.
And then, yeah, old iPod touches.
There's a there's a
mixture of every single acdc metallica limp biscuit biscuits lincoln park like there's
like pretty much every new metal corn yeah like every new metal everything from the new metal era
and then like your classic rock stuff yeah it's all on there so if you want like i usually i'm
not i don't really like to run the music usually by
default i have whoever else is there run the music um our thing is bluetooth too so you can do that
yeah every once in a while if i'm the only one there my favorite thing to listen to in the gym
or outside is i like rolling stone radio quote unquote you know like that like credence clearwater and rolling stones and um
animals and like that stuff and i like that in the gym like if i'm in the gym or not in the gym
like that's kind of what i like and it's classic but actually what i kind of like is just someone
else to run the music and outside of me going for like a PR set, then I like to just pop on a specific song and it's usually something weird
that just,
I just,
I feel like I have like one song that I'll listen to every time I do that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right.
So check those out.
Yes.
Oh,
what do we got here?
This is from B Powell and he says says when will massonomics go public the
lift short stock would be a strong investment yeah there'd be that'd be a very uh would that
be a bull market on the lift short so it's only a matter of time i don't know tanner what a year
from now two years from now yeah we got to get on shark tank first that is the that's the first
next logical step get mark cuban's money yes we have talked about it before because massonomics is now at
a point where it is more successful than a majority of the businesses that are on lots of
businesses that go on shark tank and they're like and to date or and we've done a lifetime of the
company we've 12 000 in sales we actually haven't sold anything yet it's like how did you get on
shark tank you don't sell anything yet it's like you don't have a business business three years and
we've done 50 000 yeah well i mean you've made money but over the course of three years that's
how much you've made it's like we're over here running a part-time job that's like yeah like
you gotta like either put some more effort in or like re-look at what you're doing because that's
not paying off yeah oh then
the other comment we have is there's literally nothing i don't know that there's anything any
of them could do that could provide that much value to us well yeah it's like what we built
yeah we do talk about that let's say right now like what if they give us a hundred thousand
dollars mark cuban wants to come in and even take 50% of the company for a hundred thousand,
200,000,
whatever that six figure number is that he says,
I guess we would just run a bunch of Instagram ads to be like,
what are you going to like?
Do you like know the market better than us?
Mark Cuban doesn't have any really witty,
funny gym,
gym ideas to put on shirts.
You know,
like he's not in with gym culture unless the idea is to completely. Yeah. What'sie gonna help us we're gonna sell t-shirts we're just unless we're just gonna turn
this business into a completely different business yeah they don't have anything to really help us
with no no sharply it would just literally be like okay maybe they can help us with marketing
yeah that's what it would right and it would be like okay i guess you can but they would be like
well it's too niche of a product yeah right so for those reasons i don't think i could help you i'm out
and it's like yeah you're right you couldn't um next one biggest animal you could beat in a fight
and this is from kodiak bear not a kodiak bear i can tell you that no not a kodiak bear definitely
biggest animal i mean and the thought process would be there is, what is the biggest, most docile animal?
You know, like the largest animal that is also like,
would be terrible at fighting.
And I don't know what the answer to that is.
I don't either.
Because like, I wouldn't want to fight a raccoon.
No.
That would be scary.
I mean, you could beat a raccoon in a fight.
You could, but I wouldn't want to.
You could literally just like, whip it against the wall.
I would assume I'm getting some major lacerations
yeah yeah first like i don't want to fight one of those things and rabies would be the bad part
who really does win in the long run yeah um but i would more think of like what about like uh
a llama like a llama probably you know maybe weighs 110 pounds like what are they gonna do to
look and also what do you i mean assuming how do hundred and some pounds. Like what are they going to do to. And also what do you. I mean, assuming it doesn't just run away from you.
And what is this, this fight?
What is, does winning require killing it?
Because I also don't really want to kill these animals with my bare hands.
Is it killing it or is it just like.
You should be like, I got you.
Like willing it under the ground.
I really knocked that lock, you know, knocked him out.
So I guess we need more clarification.
Yeah.
From Keith. Do you guys listen to any other podcasts?
My answer is yes.
Yes.
My actually podcast listening is way down right now.
Probably super lame.
The main only other podcast I listen to,
I am kind of an Apple tech guy at heart.
So I listen to this podcast called The Accidental Tech Podcast,
where they go way, way too in depth about apple and mac stuff every week so unless you really
really geek out on mac computers and apple i would not listen to this podcast but um that's like the
only other thing i'm regularly listening to right now other things like i do you know the occasional
i'm always looking at like strength podcasts but if someone's talking like training, like I don't really care about hearing other people's
training.
If they're more on the business side of things, I'll usually like catch and like Matt Vincent
talks about the business side and like hybrid does.
Yeah.
So I'll drop in on some of those.
Occasionally like something more like news-ish related.
I've started listening to, what's this one called?
Is it the day?
I listen to Up First as my morning news. It's like a 10 minute long is it i should get i should get i'm trying to get more
on that i threw up first i would recommend it it's uh it's a short it's npr and it's there
every morning it's there when you wake up and i do listen to that one a lot of morning because
it's like five or ten minutes long and i'm like ah at least yeah because for the most part i
usually do a pretty good job of not giving a crap what's going on in the world
so i'm like it's nice to just it's like sometimes and i don't listen to someday if i read the title
i'm like i don't even want to hear more i already heard about that i don't want to hear anything
else about it yeah but that one i've started listening to the daily that's like kind of the
other new york times is like a 20 to 30 minute one like once a week it looks like i just started yeah only a few episodes in but um that one i used to listen to how i built this a lot i do i
still listen to how i felt it's not i i don't listen to it i used to not miss what i was like
ah thank god you got me going on a long time ago and i listened to it for like years and then i
felt like i was like starting to hear the same story over yeah yeah that that is kind of true
that's guy ross and he's yep pretty popular
for that uh i think that that podcast is very big i think at this point i always go through
stretches with joe rogan where sometimes i'm entertained and other times i've listened to
like one or two episodes of joe yeah it's i don't know it doesn't suck obviously it's like the most
popular podcast i just i really liked um there was an ad on youtube i had today because i
think starting like today or yesterday he is exclusively on on spotify now okay and there
was an ad where it just shows a clip of him talking he goes you mean there's more than one
infinity the joe rogan podcast and then it goes by like that was the ad i'm like yes that is the
perfect that's like the perfect soundbite to use there's more than one infinity for the joe rogan podcast and then it goes by like that was the adam like yes that is the perfect that's like the perfect soundbite to use there's more than one infinity for the joe rogan podcast like
that means something to someone i like stuff you should know you have talked about that i like to
that's one where i'm like tired of hearing about lifting i just want something that maybe i'll pay
attention to if it's on maybe i won't stuff you should know i really like that one the other uh money money ones i like are planet money from uh npr that's a longer one and the indicator from
npr that's a shorter one those are the two same same topics generally or kind of kind uh planet
money is more like stories like these crazy weird uh okay stories i have i just remember the picture
of the little guy i have listened to uh
planet money and off and on the indicator is more like uh like this new jobs report is out
what does that mean in like 10 minutes like do these numbers what do these numbers tell
what do these numbers actually mean but it's kind of like it's interesting it's like phrased in a
way that you don't have to be like a geek to uh want to hear what they have to say other than that i always like the way i heard it from micro but i quit
listening to that i did too that one's like that's one where it's like you're on a car trip and you're
just like i just need something to just a change of scenery and you can throw on those and plow
through them this american life to me is kind of the same thing too like it gives you an hour break
a look into some story like that one can always be entertaining the couple lifting ones i've been listening to lately are um so matt vincent hybrid unlimited
and stronger by science with uh greg knuckles and eric trexler and i like starting strength
radio with rip especially after we have this you know rip was on ours and we were on there
i kind of just in this thing where i'm like always curious what he's got to say anymore yeah and 50 facts i like that with jim mcgee and silent mike and i like the
let's get stupid podcast with tom finn and uh tom callas i think that they have a pretty good uh
pretty funny thing going i don't know it's pretty good yeah that's kind of where i'm at
on the podcast world yeah all good stuff yep i feel
like there's not as many like for a while i feel like there's all these big shows coming out for
podcasts like yeah have you heard this podcast have you heard this right right like what's the
uh s town you know like that sort of thing like these big stories playing out where it's like
everyone listen to like this journalism thing like people do this deep dive into what's going
on here i feel like i'm not hearing as much of that
lately. I'm definitely not listening to much of that.
How much is the
membership to your gym?
It's $38 a month.
Spend that since we opened the door.
I think you would be hard pressed. Actually, I think Mark Bell says
his gym's always free, but outside of someone
like that, I think you would be hard
pressed to find a better gym deal
in America than the Massanomics gym met 38 bucks a month that includes tax yeah the reason it's 38
is because it's going to be 35 access all access yeah and and the it started at the value you get
now for 38 dollars is drastically different than what you got for the square footage has like
like 6x 6x and the price hasn't changed the amount of equipment has 20 x
and it has the quality equipment is just not even in the same sphere that was before i think most
people would be like oh i pay uh way way way more money than that why are you even charging for this
low of a rate and it's just uh the gym's not a profit center we just run the gym it's kind of like a club
and we get to take cool pictures there and we get to all lift there ourselves and we get to buy
like the cool lifting toys that we want to use and that's kind of what the gym is
will tyler be a guest on the podcast now that he is back in town i think tyler will someday
yep you know we got lots of stuff going on and yeah um but yeah
for sure he will be again someday here he's in our we've got a lot of we were talking about it
before the show with not having a guest this week but we do have a lot of good guests like in not
just like our wish list but like ones we've got going good in the pipeline that just to name a
couple off the top of my head there's greg knuckles we're talking to him. Ben Pollock. We were talking to him.
Jessica.
I don't know if it's Bittner or Buechner.
I actually,
that'd be the first question I would want to ask.
How do you pronounce your last name?
There's many more,
but those are the ones I think I read off more.
We have a very large list.
That's always,
we're going to do some kind of fit,
kind of fat crew is going to come on for one.
We got a bunch of coming up soon.
Yep.
So we are going to go back to more guests again.
And Tyler would be one of those.
And it would be fun to do an on set.
Oh, yeah.
The biggest problem is we have this really good two-man set now.
Perfectly for two people.
Yeah.
So figuring out how to do this with three.
Yeah.
It can definitely be done, though.
Favorite lifting meme pages.
And I see this question is from Jack3DMeme,
which I do like that name of their meme page.
And I have noticed them a couple of times lately.
Favorite lifting meme pages.
Well, we've had Eduardo Barbell on the show
and we've also had powerlifting,
subpar powerlifting memes on the show.
Yep.
And yeah, both of those are must follows. Subpar powerlifting memes on the show. Yep. And yeah, both of those are must-follows.
Subpar powerlifting memes, again,
is just so impressive on the sheer number of stuff they put out.
But there's always been, there's been a few,
like, what's it, is it the strength coach?
That, like, he kind of just disappeared.
Yeah, he's gone.
Yeah, he used to have, like, some really funny stuff.
He was good.
Yeah, and what are are the more frustrated strength coach
there you go frustrated strength coach and there's frustrated strength athlete and i think they're
both gone those were both good they were and yeah they were funny i don't know what happened there
so those ones we we actually talked about those or we would talk about those to each other right
i have to like look i can't even just think of any off the top power lifting motivation i do not care for i don't either i think pretty lame and unoriginal
like what anything if it's called like just gym memes or what you know whatever those are like i
don't like those um oh like world's strongest meme oh world's strongest meme is good that is a good
one he's i think he's way less active than he used to be. Yeah, that's the thing. So many of these are. But he was very good.
I do enjoy his.
It's so hard to leave.
You know, I'm probably forgetting some.
Oh, we're definitely forgetting some.
That's why.
There's one.
What's the one?
There's one that kind of does weightlifting memes,
and it's like Shako or Smol of or something in his name that he follows
a lot of our stuff and comments on things i can't remember is it pen glenley yeah yeah pen glenley
yeah glen pendley is like it uh got the first letter yes i kind of liked his yes you knew i
surprised you figured out what i was trying to talk, what I was trying to get out on that one. I remembered. Yeah.
Someone's going to be annoyed that we left him out.
Yeah.
It's just so hard to think of all these accounts off the top of your head,
but yeah,
because so many,
so few people like post regularly.
Right.
So that's a good starting point.
Yep.
This next one is from fat John T fitness.
How hard do you have to lift to live easy?
You don't have to do very hard.
You don't have to lift very hard to live very easy.
It's just... That's true.
Do they increase and decrease along with each other?
If you're lifting hard, do you have to continue to live easier?
The harder you lift, you have to live that much easier
to like right balance the force yeah if you're way up here you get to come all the way to this
other side man we'll have to do some more research in this tanner um from chris hornick member of
judd who's band he says beatles or elvis um i was never an elvis guy i i just don't know like elvis
i don't hardly know elvis stuff at all yeah like i mean everyone knows like elvis's big songs
but i right i don't think i could name 20 songs by elvis i couldn't and with that being said i'm
also not a huge beatles fan either um i, they're good. They have a ton of classics.
Like, it's insane how many songs they do have that are popular.
But that was never.
My wife doesn't like the Beatles.
Really?
Yeah, we talked about it some.
And so if your answer is then the Beatles,
if you have to pick between Beatles and Elvis,
then is that what you're saying?
I would pick the Beatles, yes.
I would also pick the Beatles.
But if we're just making if you're if we're just
making up our own to throw in that fit in this category i would say the rolling stones because
i just really like the rolling stones that i would pick them over the beatles any day
um yeah i don't like the eagles that much though sometimes i see people say the eagles and i'm like
i mean the eagles they're good right but like to be like oh they're one of my favorite but some
people like feel that way like that are in that group like if we're gonna be like talking like 70s ish
like i always i always for me david bowie i've always loved david bowie i've always been a big
david bowie fan um and then um like in the 70s era uh you know i was always into the uh your
led zeppelin and jimmy hendrix too
like those were always i like led zeppelin those were always up there for me is cashmere led
zeppelin yeah i do like yeah um you know made famous from the godzilla reboot in like the year
2000 do you kind of remember that movie no no no no no no i'm thinking of uh david bowie we could be heroes
like i think i think like the wallflowers did like a uh yeah yeah i think the wallflowers did
do that yeah yeah i remember that yeah because there's like a music one headlight wallflowers
the album of my life in 1994 oh it is i'm pretty sure yeah bob dylan then yeah that i was trying
to think other people then bob dylan fits into that uh i don't like bob dylan's music that much though so that's an interesting one to me because so i listened
i listened to the audio book of the steve jobs biography which i already said on this podcast
read by bob dylan narrated by bob dylan but the audio book is like 28 hours long very longest
audio book i've ever listened to and steve jobs was obsessed with bob dylan like obsessed with
bob dylan okay and like that was his whole thing is like always talking about Bob Dylan,
going to Bob Dylan concert.
It's like meeting Bob Dylan,
like getting Bob Dylan on the iTunes store.
Like one point there was a big deal for him was you could buy the complete
Bob Dylan discography along with all these rare things for like,
it was like 400 bucks or something on the iTunes store.
And.
Ooh,
I think the dog farted.
That wasn't me.
That is a stink.
But, you know, Bob Dylan has some absolute classics,
but there's a lot of Bob Dylan.
There's a lot of Bob Dylan.
Some of that's hard for me to listen to.
There's a lot that doesn't resonate with me at all.
You know, like Hurricane, that's an amazing song.
That one's good.
That one's good, yeah.
There's a ton of songs by him that i just don't know and i don't care but you know he had
like knocking on heaven's door like he was the one that did all that stuff but i don't another
name and this was i i think like people liked him so much that it's almost like well yeah of course
you like him but i really like you know like johnny cash always has a lot of like i yeah i never got
super into johnny cash but i do i do get why people, yeah, yeah, I do understand that one.
So I guess my answer would be Beatles, but if I got to just pick my own in there,
I would put the Rolling Stones in there. Could Wolverine, and this is from Fatty Fatty Fat Stuff.
It's a great name. Could Wolverine with his healing factor
just keep benching
every hour?
I would say so.
It is a very
interesting
possibility to think about.
Like which
superhero can
bench the most?
It's such a hard one to do.
To me I'm like
can any
is anyone
like what about like
Thor
and Superman
and the Hulk?
I just assume all of them can bench Unlimited.
Yeah, right.
All of them can lift Unlimited.
Right, right.
Obviously, there's rules to that.
Like, isn't Superman stronger than the Hulk?
Because, like, isn't Hulk, like, more of, like, a physical being that, like, has a ceiling where it's, like, Superman?
That's what it seems like.
Like, you drop a city on him and he goes's like, oh, I'm Superman. I'll fly
with it. Yeah, whatever movie comes up, there's
just like something. They just take the ceiling higher.
Right, yeah. There's no rules.
There is no rules. Rule number one.
There's no rules.
From Lou Nutter,
there's lift shorts and dead
lift shorts. What about bent
shorts? I smell
profit.
I don't know if we should,
we need to say too much.
We won't say much.
Not a terrible idea.
We like how you think.
Yep.
You just,
you just stay tuned and keep saving.
Wise words.
Listen to some NPR money podcasts.
From Matthias Cash. what was the motivation to continue
pot oh that's a real good question what was the motivation to continue podcasting when the views
slash listens were low um i don't know i think it's just because it was like this is just something
we kind of do and it's fun like i would say it's fun yeah that is the main thing that it's fun like this definitely it's definitely is not
stressful to do like it takes some time but it's it's fun to do and so it wasn't fun we would have
never made it yeah like that is the first thing it had to be fun otherwise who else is going to
like do it for 200 and some episodes but it's still for the amount of time
and effort we've put into it it probably still is way below what it should be i honestly think
we just willed it into existence yeah like into whether you know some sort of moderate success
like we just like there's no good reason that we should have probably continued to do it as long
as we did no there's not and i'm i'd actually be curious just because i don't revisit the old just old stuff it would be
interesting to actually just see like what episodes like 50 through 150 were even titled
to see what we were talking about then right but uh it has been a cool way for us to meet a lot of
people and get in front of people so like that's it has been rewarding as we go and yeah the view
because the views and listens were very low yeah like we're still not they're
still not as high as we would well and even actually for the first for the first like
i don't know 100 ish episodes um we just had it because our website's through squarespace we just
had the podcast hosted through squarespace which didn't provide actual direct analytics right we
went a long time so we didn't even know for like we just had rss subscriber we had a very vague idea of how many people were listening to for a long time and that's what we're
like well we're not doing it just for listeners it was like oh this is just something we're supposed
to be doing right it's like literally how it felt yeah and like as our merchandise became more of a
thing like this is a pretty good platform it's like another marketing channel but we don't do
this for our marketing like we do this ultimately because it is fun.
Yeah, right.
Like it was like,
oh, okay, we got to do the podcast tonight
because we got to talk about all the stuff we have.
It's like, well, we wouldn't do that.
No, definitely not.
I guess that's kind of why the podcast.
I mean, we do talk about all the stuff we have.
Yeah, right.
But that's not the reason we do it.
We do it because it's fun.
And the podcast has the tone that the podcast has
because that's how it is fun for us.
Yeah.
Oh, that's like,
if we just sit here
and talk about serious training stuff,
you'd be like,
oh, this sucks, man.
Yeah, and that is our personality.
It's like,
we don't really care
to talk about training.
Like, it's the same thing
we have guests on.
Why does someone want to listen to,
like, go listen to a podcast
of experts of training, you know?
Yes, yes.
We have nothing to contribute
to that at all.
Yeah, like.
And like, we just like
to keep things lighthearted and fun. That's how we do it with our guests too
right right and we do get a lot of feedback from the guests that whether they say it to us after
it's over or they even post and share about it like more times than not their response will be
huh that was the funnest one of those i've ever done they almost always say that like oh that was
like the coolest one of those that i've done because they leave away thinking oh you didn't just ask me like
what's your programming like these days right right yeah um what's the next piece of equipment
you're going to buy we just kind of talking about this so we just got the ghost string go strong equipment hd combo rack yesterday i ordered the
kabuki strength trap bar so that'll be on the way whenever that's on the way the first legit
trap bar for the gym yep we have an old hex bar that is a bitch like that is it does what it needs
to do but that thing is pretty brutal though it's like one of the complete you know no raised handle whatsoever yeah all flat there's something with the balance point
of that that makes outside of the handles not being elevated so the are they like skinnier
handles too or something they do see they are thinner than a full barbell they really yeah they
do they do hurt they do hurt but i think the biggest thing with that bar
versus the ones trap bars that have the elevated handles is the way that the weight hangs oh it's
easier much easier and natural to find the middle point on the trap bar with the raised handles
because with the weight hanging lower it i i don't know this well because you're kind of like grabbing
it from a deadlift right i mean you are grabbing it from like a regular deadlift height yeah but
it's like it's just it is weird yeah it is harder the the full trap bar straight across which
seem to be much less common i don't i don't see those very often yeah i can't recall seeing one
of those too many times out in the wild um but no so we got
the kabuki trap bar i'm excited about that other things on the list that we talked about and these
i wouldn't be surprised if we got all of these within the next six or twelve months the kabuki
transformer bar the kabuki cadillac bar uh more sets of fat bells a new A new Olympic Oli bar.
Something not super fancy.
Probably just like the Rogue Ohio bar.
Not the Rogue Ohio Power Bar, but just the Rogue Ohio bar.
Is the Ohio bar their Oli bar?
Is that what the...
I think that's like the...
As far as I understand, that's kind of the multi-purpose general Oli bar sort of thing.
Like not super fancy, but good enough for what...
You know, I want something no center knurling and just for those... general ollie bar sort of thing like not super fancy but good enough for what you know i want
something no center knurling and just for those for what anyone would ever need that's not an
actual olympic competitor right yes yes yes um what else did i say i had a couple of them like
a rogue combo rack of some art and not a cop but a real power rack or maybe a big rogue or rep rack
something like that or ghost or you know i don't know see who
makes what over the other thing i guess i forgot to mention uh concept two rower yeah i have on my
list we've got one of those at home and we say we you mean your yeah i have one of those at home
that i bought for my wife once one year and those are as far as a rower goes i think that's what you
want and we already got the echo bike and i just
i kind of consider that the pair to the yeah the echo bike where it's just like ah that other kind
of top of the line piece of cardio equipment you know we've got a shitty treadmill a really shitty
elliptical we've got the solid rogue echo bike we've got an older schwinn that works fine yep
and then we've got a what are those called spin class bike
basically but i want the um concept two rower yeah yeah i think that's a classic piece to have
that's the biggest stuff the additional fat bells i said that oh more plates yeah i need to get more
that's the other thing more plates i and you know shipping on plates is the crazy thing. Because, you know, Rogue has their whatever deep dish black ones
that they came out with that are fairly reasonable price.
Actually, talk more about this later, but there's this company out there.
They were on, Rip had them on starting strength.
I think they actually just sent us some stuff and it hasn't
showed up yet so it's not not going to be a a sack segment yet it's grant that runs it because
he mentions it meant messaged us it's called the strength co the strength company and they started
making uh you can kind of see a picture right here but they just started making milled yeah
yeah plates uh in the U.S.,
and I'd like to get those maybe.
Maybe we can get them on the podcast and get them to send us some.
That'd be cool.
That's what we need.
But some more plates, more 45s, 35s.
I know some people don't like them,
but I just want to fill out some of our racks and more 25s.
I think that's everything on the Jim Wish list.
And, I mean, at that point, the Jim's already pretty stocked,
but at that point, the gym's really stocked.
Right, right.
And after that, then if I get all those things on that list,
then I'm like, oh, now what do we actually need?
What do we need?
Yeah.
We don't need anything as it is, but...
Any thoughts?
I think there's three questions left.
Any thoughts or attempts to get your kids into fitness with you?
This is from Fittest Fat Dad.
I mean, yeah, my kid's six months old.
It's just so far out.
I mean, obviously, we're going to, I mean, I like to be active and doing stuff.
So that's just going to be a part of him growing up.
But Tanner, you have an older child.
So that's just going to be a part of him growing up.
But Tanner, you have an older child.
And he's already getting involved and doing fitness things, if you want to say that. My daughter is not only two, so irrelevant at this point.
Jack, my son, is nine.
He's in third grade.
And he does BMX, plays basketball.
He has done soccer.
Not really so much right now i don't think
he does swimming he's good at swimming i would pressure him he said he wants to try football
i would pressure him not to do i pressure him into nothing yeah i i would the only thing i
would pressure him into is away from nothing i don't want him to do nothing I want him to pick a
few things to do active and he likes he really likes BMX so he goes pretty hard at that and
swimming he's really good at that and likes that so he does that quite a bit and I'm like I I see
I like I played basketball so I'm I get the most excited personally when he plays basketball I'm
like ah I like the sport i get it
i know what you should be doing better like i can and i am pretty you know i might get like
internally slightly worked up watching him and thinking things but i never am like hey does it
manifest no no no never and never it would and i would and if he tomorrow said i don't want to i
don't really like i don't like basketball i want to do something else i back all right let's do something else yeah uh or
football you know i always played football i'd be like oh yeah this is fun but also like concussions
are real and like so i'm like i'm not gonna force you to do it but i also still at this point
personally would be like yeah if you want to that's exciting for me so i'm like and i do think
it was fun and like it was a good experience for myself so for those reasons I would still think that was good as far as lifting specifically I would never
say you need to come to the gym and lift with me yeah I would offer him to do that and have
before and he has come and messed around with me a little bit before but I would never in my life
even if he was very into football and I'm like yeah you should probably lift and get a
little stronger it might not hurt if he's like yeah i don't want to i'd be like yeah that's that's
your call yeah that's i that's kind of my philosophy too is like there's too many sports
and everyone has their own interest to be like oh you gotta do this right um that's just way too
much there's way too much of like parents trying to live vicariously through their kids and there's just
my parents never did that and i appreciated that you know i really like sports and they say but
they never did that at all yeah and and mine didn't either i think the big thing to me the
big thing is just being active yes whatever you're doing that's that's active like there's
and especially now it's like there's a lot of you know a lot of the sports that we're talking about
especially like in high school a lot of those sports after you're out of high school, you can't really do them much or you need a whole team to do them.
And that gets trickier.
And so there are a lot of options.
And so I just think the big thing is things that you can do to be active for life.
And luckily, the gym is one of those things.
But there are other options, too.
And also, you don't have to start getting into like some people don't get into that until
they're 30 or 40 or anytime yeah right as far as hobbies go it's about the cheapest time yes yes
exactly so no i kind of i'm not on in the camp of like forcing your but i mean as i certainly of
course would enjoy it like i really like the gym so it's like oh yeah this is a fun thing for us to
do yep i agree how many geese
could you simultaneously defeat in unarmed combat do you ever think about though if birds this is
the alfred hitchcock movie birds or the birds yeah yeah yeah i was just we were just talking
about that movie tonight and how bad it is if birds ever just all decided to like you know what
we're going all right yeah yeah wouldn't you oh yeah for sure i think geese is a i mean
you couldn't take if a hundred geese want to kill you they would kill you what are you gonna do
about that geese are also big i was gonna say a hundred of them starts to weigh a lot yeah right
there's a lot of mass there uh i don't know if there was 10 geese really pissed i would think
you could like you probably also like we talked about with other animals like it's gonna things are gonna hurt and you're gonna get bit in the nuts yeah yeah you know yeah i would think
10 you could just start booting some of them right in the head as hard as you could and it's gonna
rock them pretty good i think you know like you could grab them and throw them around and yeah
they just start to be the point where anything of size you start yeah over 10 it's just yeah
they're not geese are not small they're not like if you uh i think i don't know i think i could take on 10 i think
it wouldn't be i don't think it'd be easy though at 10 like 20 seems like a lot no 20 i feel like
you just get tired at like how how long can you go kicking and punching as hard as you can you
know like mma fighters yeah trained at that don't
they're dive bombing the sky and also biting you on the ground it's a lot of it's a lot going on
i think 20 is too many i didn't more i think 10 would be not be easily done but i think like
you could start killing a few of them pretty fast i want to really think about it reverts to killing
there again it's like what's the goal here are we trying to kill him or
just get him away from us okay last one and this is from zane oh what's the most useless talent you
have most useless talent do you know what your most useless talent is i don't know a lot of the
stuff we do here at mass and i feel like it's kind of on display i mean i would say one of the
more useless one we have is keeping a podcast running for almost 250 straight episodes without
ever missing a week ever that actually for like almost five years yeah that that is up there for
sure um who i can juggle a little bit yeah Yeah. That's, you know,
not very useful.
My wife seems to think that,
uh,
me and everyone in my family talks incredibly loud when we talk.
Hey,
like that's just how we talk.
Um,
so I don't know if that's,
is that a talent or not?
But,
um,
she seems to think maybe that's,
maybe that's more of a habit.
It's just a bad habit.
Yeah. Wait, is there a line between talents and habits?
I'm not sure.
My wife says I talk extremely loud
anytime I get on the phone.
Someone calls me, I just start screaming.
Yeah.
I don't know.
That's probably about it.
I don't think of myself as overly talented. Yeah. Useless talents. No, I don't know. That's probably about it. I don't think of myself as overly talented.
Yeah.
Useless talents.
No, I don't.
Can do a couple of card tricks.
Fairly useless.
I think the podcast thing is the most useless.
I don't know if that's, there again, it's not necessarily a talent.
It's just sheer will will like refusal to quit.
Yeah.
To me,
you know,
something about just being too sort of 30 ish white guys in the upper Midwest.
You could say our useless talent is unremarkableness to an extent.
Well,
I don't have any major stories of personal triumph or overcoming tragedy.
It's just like, I'm just kind of a dude.
To go outside of the sphere of the people that listen to this podcast,
to most normal people, being able to deadlift 500, 600, 700 pounds.
True, lifting is a pretty useless talent.
I mean, people will be like, well, you need to be small.
No.
Well, and it's like, yeah, you need to not be weak,
but do you need to squat 700 pounds? No. Probably not. Do you need to bench small now you well and it's like yeah you need to not be weak but do you need to squat 700 pounds no probably not even do you need to bench 500 no but for the most part in regular
life squatting 400 versus 300 right right like do you should your back squat be 100 pounds like
yeah that may be a problem like you may be exceptionally weak for like normal tasks then
like maybe it's limiting you on things yeah uh or your just health
in general but like yeah like yeah like do you need to be able to squat 400 pounds i i mean i
don't know it's probably better than yeah it's for sure it is kind of a useless yeah it is i think
it's a little useless yeah maybe mesonomics is the useless talent. That's just the whole thing. Yeah.
That was our last question.
Wow.
Those are some good questions.
Yeah.
I don't know if you skipped over it, Tanner,
but no one asked our origin story or anything.
That question comes up every time, I feel like.
That's true.
And it didn't really come up.
The longer we go, the harder it gets to answer, I feel like. It does.
Just like the LaCroix piping hot.
Where did that?
Where did massonomics start?
It just is lost in the sands of time at this point.
Are we going to play overrated, underrated?
I mean, we haven't not.
Yeah, we can't ruin that streak.
That streak is much more important than the guest streak, I would think.
Yeah, let's do it.
I've got to look at, actually, I've got some old topics here that I prepared eons ago.
Handpicked specifically for me.
Yeah.
Are you still familiar with the rules?
Just barely.
Okay.
Hopefully some of these are still relevant here.
Okay, overrated or underrated?
So you are up on the rules.
I am up on them, yep.
Overrated or underrated?
This is one I was actually thinking about today, so I on them, yep. Overrated or underrated? This is one I was actually thinking about today,
so I'll lead with it.
Overrated or underrated?
Mustard.
Mustard.
I think mustard is underrated.
Ketchup.
Ketchup for sure is overrated.
Like, yeah, who doesn't like ketchup?
Right.
One that's funny to me is the people that say ketchup is spicy.
Those people might be insane.
Spice is spicy?
Yes.
It's sweet.
There's some people that think ketchup
like isn't there like a fair amount of sugar in it i would assume but mustard has like zero
calories in it too doesn't it i don't know i don't think there's if there's calories in mustard
outside of you know like i'm not counting honey mustards and stuff but yeah i think mustard is
like zero to five calories like it's like almost nothing there okay um i do think mustard is
underrated mustard's good i like mustard do think mustard is underrated. Mustard's good. I like mustard. Okay.
Overrated or underrated video lottery?
Vidlots.
Does that exist in every state?
Or is it more?
I don't think it exists in every state.
No, I think it's a big South Dakota thing.
I do remember this was so weird to me.
When I was in college, we actually went pheasant hunting on a family member's property.
And he would have relatives, not on my side of the family, but on his side of the family,
relatives from Colorado come in.
And he said, oh, we went to the casino last night and just had the best time.
And I'm like, what casino are you?
There's no casino around here.
Oh, it went to the video lottery.
Video lottery.
To me, that's not a casino.
I mean, that is what they're called. Yeah, they are called yeah they are called casinos 30 of those in our town yeah our town per capita
probably has one for every 100 people one for every city block it's it's stupid how many we have
um the concept of it i i think video lottery's so over like i don't play it i think it's so
overrated like it's just dumb it's just i think it's so overrated. Like it's just dumb.
It's just dumb.
I think the state uses a lot of the money towards like teachers or roads or something.
So like all in all, that's probably good.
I think it's so overrated.
It's so stupid.
But that being said, I don't think they should get rid of video lottery.
People should be able to do what they want.
So I do think it's overrated, but I don't think it's like overrated to the point that it should go away.
I think every state should have video lottery.
Let people do what they want.
Right.
Especially if they can be like, yeah, and we're going to use this money for paying teachers more.
If you want to blow your money on video lottery, I guess you should listen to some more NPR Planet money.
Yep.
That's right.
Overrated or underrated Anthony Bourdain?
I think he's probably still even underrated.
Because I think unless you follow cooking stuff very closely,
there's a good chance you don't know who he is, right?
I suppose.
I don't think he's universally known, is he?
No, I think he maybe transcended cooking a little bit.
Yeah, I think he was getting there.
I loved No Reservations. And then was it Parts Unknown? Was that the next one he had? I think that was getting there yeah yeah um i i loved no reservations and then was it parts
unknown was that the next one i think that's right yeah um i i loved it i thought it was
they were great shows um i've never read his book is it kitchen confidential i believe yeah i don't
i've never read that but um i think i think he's underrated you see he certainly had a following. He did, for sure. Okay, last one. Overrated or underrated?
Hamburgers.
Hamburgers.
Straight up hamburgers.
Is that what we're saying?
Straight up hamburgers?
Yes.
When was the last time you had a hamburger, Tanner?
Not by choice.
Not in a long time.
I couldn't tell you the last time I had a hamburger.
Isn't that something an
old person would eat don't you think like can't you see someone in their 70s being like yeah like
oh hamburger the condiments that's too much flavor yeah uh i think a straight up hamburger
is overrated like if you want a straight up hamburger there's got to be something wrong with
you right like you don't like melted cheese on it yeah okay at the bare minimum put okay would
you pick if you had to pick just cheese or just condiments what would you pick that's a tricky
one i feel like i that is tough i really want all of those i know i would even though i want my gut reaction is
cheese is more important i think if i could have mustard pickles and ketchup i could get by all
right with all that on the hamburger i'm like how that it's a lot of extra flavors there and a
slice of lettuce and a tomato and stuff i'm like ah you kind of got a lot going on there now where it's just cheese i'm like that can be pretty dry sometimes you need something to
help it i know like i need the ketchup layer i want i want the cheese flavor but yeah i want the
i want something to grease the gears right i'm a little worried about the dryness with no ketchup
no mustard no just cheese sometimes if you get enough cheese it almost it almost uh yeah but uh that's a
hard question though it is plain hamburgers though that's so and first of all no one should ever order
a plain hamburger and no one should ever serve a plain hamburger like some places how you could
order like a hamburger it's even on the menu that way unless for dietary reasons you can't consume
condiments and cheese you should never eat a plain hamburger.
Yeah.
Yeah, that shouldn't be part of the menu ever.
Well, that was it, Tommy.
Wow.
Great news.
