aka the lifting podcast about nothing recorded live from multiple corners of south dakota my
name is tanner and my name is Tommy.
Tommy, I was panicking there for a minute.
I'm on my microphone.
Adjusting some hardware over there.
It came on screwed all of a sudden.
I looked at it and I'm like, why?
I'm just holding this in my hand.
It's pretty impressive.
I've got a podcast in like 10 seconds.
I have to troubleshoot this quick.
Mine's locked up pretty tight over here.
I don't know what you're doing to that thing.
I don't know.
It must have just been slowly working itself over the years of podcasting.
All the vibrations from your voice have just slowly knocked it loose.
From this silky baritone.
I saw something.
It was Barry White talking.
It was an old late-night clip that popped up on, I don't know,
wherever the hell things pop up at.
And he said he got that voice when he was 14 years old.
No way.
Yeah.
That's what he was saying, that when he turned 14 or thereabouts, like he basically woke up one morning and that's what he sounded like.
Some guys just got it, I guess.
Some people made fun of him for it.
I'm sure.
Yeah.
You know what else? You know what people don't make fun of other people for though i can think of a thing or two yeah i'm gonna tell you
one of those things right now they don't make fun of people for let's see which thing do i want to i'm gonna i'm just pretty flustered about that microphone
getting uh unhooked no what they don't make fun of you for what your wife won't make fun of you for
is from vaso blitz from build fast formula are you tired taking it sooner that's true that is
true are you tired of supplements that just don't work? You take them, you wait a few minutes, maybe an hour or two, and what do you get? Absolutely

been waiting for, the Ursonomics.
A genetic splicing of suede and canvas, something that's never been seen before.
This bomb-ass shoe is coming out shortly here, Tanner.
At the time of recording, this is September 20th.
This will come out, what, September 24th, 5th-ish,
which means that we're only a few short weeks away from the
actual release of this shoe it's been this shoe right here almost years in the making you could
say what's felt like years in the making and uh you're going to want to take advantage of this
it's the first ever shoe put out by barefoot that combines suede and canvas. It's got two-tone red and black.
It's got the Masanomics logo.
It's got the Masanomics MSS NMX abbreviation on the back.
It's got the Barefoot logo, and they look sick.
You can pick up a pair for yourself at www.barefoot.store,
and you do not want to wait any longer because there was only 250 pairs total available.
That number is significantly smaller right now.
Several sizes are out of stock and many are very, very low on stock, like less than two.
So you're going to want to take advantage of that.
And while you're on the site buying your own pair of Ersanomic shoes,
make sure to add a pair of awesome wraps to the cart. That's Barefoot's
very own wraps and use code. Where'd my code go? Mass. Mass. Okay. Mass. Mass. Make sure.
Usually always one of those two. That's why I didn't want to say it wrong. Add some awesome
wraps to your cart. Use code mass. And when you buy the shoes, you'll get the awesome wraps to your cart use code mass and when you buy the shoes you'll get the awesome wraps for free so take advantage of this limited edition shoe once it's gone it's gone you don't
want to be on the wrong side of history with this one and get it at barefoot.store thank you
barefoot shoes i did some looking earlier today on the sizings that are out of stock and yeah
anyone that waits much longer is
really going to be screwed at first it was just some like ends of the bell curve sizing and today
i'm pretty sure i looked like 12 was out of stock and uh so if you don't order these smaller yeah
yeah if you don't order these really soon you are going to be screwed and then don't ask us like oh
when are you restocking them because um it was an order
of 250 so you look at us we don't make shoes this is out of our hands our hands are tied literally
in my hands but but i can't have this pair either metaphorically it's out of them yes
okay well tanner we got some things to cover this week don't we got a lot of things and quite a bit
of stuff as a matter of fact we've got
uh so some of both of those things and stuff you were on vacation i've had new revelations in my
life just things are changing as time goes on i need a i need after that vacation i need a vacation
for my vacation isn't that the classic right there i I said that. I think I told you that earlier this week that I really like that line.
I'm using it every time at work from now on when I go on vacation.
I use it like five times in the course of the day.
And do people like grab their chest?
They're having a heart attack.
They're laughing so hard.
That is hilarious.
Like a vacation from my vacation.
What a middle class fancy.
What a like a middle class problem.
So much.
I need a vacation from my vacation.
Uh-huh.
You know, when I was younger, every vacation I would need a vacation from
because I would just be so incredibly hungover that getting back to the real world was,
the day after vacation was one of the worst days of, of the month always when that
would happen. Uh, but now my vacations aren't quite so hardcore. Yeah, I did. Uh, in some ways
I can say that I did. I don't mind. I don't need a vacation from my vacation, but I don't, uh,
what I always say when I tell the kids and everyone, I, everyone, this is what, this is
another one of those things I say every time we go, this i do feel is true i'm like oh vacations are awesome i always
like when we go somewhere but then every time when we get home i always say but there's not much
better than when you get back home after being gone and nothing's not even much better back home
it's sleeping in your own bed is just sleeping in your own bed and i like having my own food
because we don't eat out that much.
So if I have to eat out for like many meals in a row, I start to be like,
it gets to be a lot, especially with kids too.
It's always a huge ordeal.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Getting back in that home bed is, it's tough to beat.
And then I'm after, you know, all the, yeah, it's the sleep.
Like when we're sleeping, you know, our the, yeah, it's the sleep. Like when we're sleeping, uh, you know, our family
of family of almost six here in like one room places, there's not a lot of quality sleep that
goes on. I'll tell you that like there is someone awake out of, you know, five and a half people.
There is someone awake between my two-year-old, my fiveyear-old my wife that's like eight months pregnant uh me
you know even with my own things like there is someone awake almost all the time yeah which
usually means they're waking they're also in the process of waking someone else up too
you know it's just a constant relay of oh your turn to your turn to be awake for 10 minutes
yes yes uh we did have a lot of vac have a lot of fun on vacation, but that being said,
I still always like the feeling of coming home.
There's nothing quite that beats the feeling.
I guess you have both so you can appreciate both.
That's right.
That way, you know, there's kind of a yin and yang scenario.
But we did make it south of the border.
I can report back that I got to take it in some of the southern culture,
which I was excited to sample.
They let you cross the border, no problem.
Yeah, I had to have the passports for everyone.
And actually, interestingly enough, it was, I would say, at least marginally,
it was exponentially easier to go across the border into Canada,
into Canada,
not actually exponentially.
It's just marginally.
Wait,
so is this one of those exponentially that's real or where I exaggerate by
saying exponentially?
No,
but there was very little questioning on the way in by the Canadian,
uh,
border border fella,
uh,
but quite a bit from the American on the way back.
And I'm just thinking, what are you, not going to let us come home?
Like, I mean, you know, we live there.
I promise you, we're going home today.
I've seen these passports before.
These are fake ones.
Yeah, but they do question you quite a bit, and they want to know stuff.
And it was an interesting experience,
but I just thought
it was odd that there's less questions to get into canada than it was to come back home
now that is um any so so then when you get to canada it looks like you ran across an interesting
event from what i could see yeah i do have to tell the story this is completely this is like such an
a crazy coincidence it really the
tiny little bit i saw this did seem like too much of a coincidence this was quite the coincidence
so we went to uh in canada we stayed we stayed a little tree house in the woods by labroquerie
was the closest uh town we weren't all that close to a town we're in like kind of 50 acres of wood so how far is
this from winnipeg then because isn't that where you were sort of close to yeah i mean it's still
a walk is i don't know if we're like 50 60 miles from winnipeg oh you're in canada so how many
kilometers though the speed the speed limits are so slow in manitoba are they really oh my god
that's i was like oh, 90 kilometers.
What is that, like 70?
I'm like, oh, well, we're going like 50 on this divided highway.
No way.
Divided highway even?
Well, no, I'm exaggerating a little bit.
But like the fastest speed ever that I saw was 110, and that was rare.
And I'm typing that in.
110 kilometers is 68 miles an hour.
Yes.
That was on the nicest, biggest highways was 110.
That's too slow.
Did not encounter anything above 110.
And most of them were 90 or 100.
And there was some when I got on and started going like 80.
I'm like, oh, shoot, what's the speed limit?
And then they're like, oh, it's 100 kilometers per hour.
And I'm like, I'm going 80 miles per hour.
Yeah, 90 would be 56
and 100 would be 62 yeah those are slow numbers yes um um so we were labroquerie is where we were
by but um which is kind of a there was kind of like our our airbnb guy like he had built this
tree house in the woods there,
and he and his family are like very French-Canadian,
and we talked to him when we got there,
and he has a very significant French accent actually.
How do you even spell this place?
I don't.
La Bro.
L-A, then I think it's B-R-O-Q-U vowels, assorted vowels.
Here we go.
Okay.
All right.
I just had to get in my head what this actually looked like as a word.
Okay, I got it now.
That makes sense.
Other relatively close towns were Steinbach was another close one.
And it was very funny.
At one point in time, thought like oh i like how the
town names all sound like very european in a way but then i'm like well all the united states towns
are you're all named after like european things too it's just a european that we're more yeah
right like i actually had that that those thoughts and succession in my head, and I was like, well, that doesn't make sense.
Ours are all European also.
Yep.
Some named after exact cities in Europe.
Yes.
Yes.
But anyway, so on the way to La Broquerie, where we were going,
we went, at the time I had not even paid attention
to what the name of this place was or that it was even a place,
but it was St. Malo, which is S-T-M-A-L-O I don't know which is not even anything I don't
know if we were actually at St. Malo if it is there's like nobody that lives there but I don't
know if maybe the actual town was a little ways away but we came to this T intersection two you
know two two lane highways that met and there was a t so we got to then and
you had to go left or right in the road and you took it i took the road less traveled by uh but
you did you came to the t and we had to go left or right and right on the other side of the t
there was a little shop it looked like and outside there was a shop you mean like a mechanical there was a building
no no there was a built there was a a tin building okay but you don't mean like a like a shop where
you go shopping oh no no i mean like there was a shed there was a closet yeah yeah steel building
yeah yeah there's a steel building and that was just on the other side of the the t basically and
i didn't pay much attention to it there There was a couple old cars sitting out.
There was definitely some people gathered around.
You know, there was like 50 people out there.
It just looked like some sort of little event that was going on.
We took a left down the road, and I looked again, and I'm like,
it looks like somebody's lifting there.
And then I hadn't picked up speed yet.
I was going slow.
I was like, I told Mary to roll down the window.
And Mary's going, no, no, we left the country.
We left this behind.
I rolled down the window and she goes, I'm pretty sure there's a PA talking about lifting.
Like you could hear someone talking about lifting.
And I was like, well, we have to check this out.
And we were in no rush.
Like the whole trip we were, we had no itinerary so
I was like I feel like we have to see what this is and she's like yeah I guess we probably have
to see what this is at this point she she herself was even kind of like yeah I guess we we probably
have to investigate so we pulled up there and like I said there was maybe 50 cars there we get parked
and I'm like yeah this is definitely a lifting thing here going on,
which is so odd.
There's maybe like four houses around and there's just this shop where the door was
open and the guy was dead lifting right in the, in the doorway.
And then people, you know, there's like 50 chairs outside of the doorway where people
are sitting around watching him and there's announcers talking and we find a spot, we
get out, there's like a little bounce house and there's face painting talking and we find a spot we get out there's like a
little bounce house and there's face painting station for kids and stuff like that and i find
out it's um what it was was deadlift for dreams so it's like a fundraising deadlift event the name
of this gym this was in a gym technically uh is, you know, they're just dead lifting right in the inside the shop door of the gym.
And it was in St. Malo.
It was training grounds.
Gym was the name of the gym.
And I got to look and I'm like, this gym looks pretty sweet.
Like, I couldn't really see that much in it.
But I'm like, this looks like a legit gym.
And like, as we're parking and getting out and I'm realizing what this is for a split second, I had this thought in my head. I'm like, Oh, maybe this is like,
maybe it's a bunch of CrossFitters that are, you know,
they're doing a deadlift event and it's like good for them.
They're raising money. Yeah. They're raising money. So that,
that'll be cool. Uh, but they're probably going to be deadlifting like 300,
400, maybe there's someone there that did those 500 pounds. And I'm like,
Oh, my training's been going
good i wonder maybe i could just hop i'm pretty sure i could just go like warm up in five literally
five minutes and pull like 600 pounds right now is kind of where i'm at so i'm like maybe i should
go do that like my stuff's starting to get better i think i could pull 600 pounds almost on a whim
you know now and i'm like maybe that would mean something here you know uh-huh and uh
that's one thought i had the other thought i'm like oh i wonder if anyone here will know what
massonomics is you know like depending on what what i'm like if it's like a crossfitty thing
well no they won't yeah uh obviously but uh so then i get out and there's people dead lifting
like in the middle of a flight and like the first lift i see
is like 650 pounds and then the second is like 675 and then i catch that they're on their first
attempts and the like the third one i see is 707 on their first attempt and i'm like yeah my lift
dead lifting services will not be needed yeah i got nothing to prove here. Carry on.
I'm like, oh, turns out you guys know what you're doing here.
You're good.
Looks like you guys got it covered.
You will not be needing my help today.
But there was some really strong people there,
and it was this deadlifting, like I said, deadlift for dreams.
Turns out they had raised like $57,000,
and it's almost like, what is it, like make a wish know it kind of reminded me of that something like that yeah yeah because they
said that it's like uh kids that you know whatever maybe they have cancer getting getting the sick
kids then they get like have a wish that they want to do and uh so they raised like 57 000 for this
one yeah that's awesome kids wish or whatever. So that's pretty
crazy. Pretty cool. But yeah, the one guy, I didn't stick around for all of it. I just took
a couple of videos and got out of there. There was one person that said something. I was wearing
the Massonomics Working Hard Pocket Tee and one person said something about that. But otherwise,
I kind of felt like nobody really maybe, you know,
noticed or knew what massomics was.
Which didn't surprise me.
I just thought it's possible somebody there might.
But then I took a couple videos and I posted those later.
And then all those, and I said, like, in the comments,
like, if anyone knows these people or whatever,
which of course they did.
Which I think is so amazing that it basically shows you can be anywhere in North America.
And if you post a video of someone that's pretty strong lifting, there's a good chance
if it goes on the massonomics page and you say, who is this?
Someone will identify that person, which is just crazy.
There was a bunch of people that knew right away.
Yeah, I know.
That was by the time I got to the post, I'm reading your of oh we you know basically explaining what just happened we stumbled across this thing
does anyone know who these people are and the first comment i'm reading is yep that's someone
so that's someone so here's their handle they're tagging everything and wow okay no mystery here
so then these guys uh reached out to the massonomics page and um they have their own
these guys like like the lifters and the people
like the owner of that gym and uh like that because one of the i think the strongest puller
he pulled almost 800 pounds it was like 770 it was his third or something we didn't stick around
for it but um then there's multiple guys pulling over 700 pounds but they have their they have a
podcast to shout it out it's's Strong and Petty Podcast.
But they all reached out and they were actually talking about this coincidental event on their podcast this week.
I listened.
I was like, oh, Strong and Petty Podcast, I'll check out an episode.
And it was like their recap of their Deadlift, what did I say, Deadlift for Dreams event.
And they were talking about the podcast.
And a couple of them said they actually have Masonomic shirts.
Oh, awesome.
Had Masonomic shirts and stuff.
So I thought that was kind of cool.
But I just thought, what a crazy coincidence that I just happened to be driving
by that road at that exact time.
And there was a deadlift event.
Because there could have been a break in the action.
You know, that's not crazy.
And then you just would have missed it.
Absolutely.
Or gone on any different route.
You know, there's probably a number of routes
we could have went through that way.
It just was, it was pretty,
it just is pretty crazy that that happened.
And then also that it was just a bunch of really strong dudes.
No kidding. Yes. People, anyone pulling over 600 is noteworthy and the fact that there's multiple
people doing it that's really yeah they did say i actually happened to stumble in right at during
the start of flight four which that was the you know all the strongest you picked a good time to
show up right right i just also there again just coincidentally like the perfect time to see all the big uh the big hosses pulling too yeah that's really cool
yeah yeah so it didn't take me long to break my dream of thinking like oh yeah maybe i should
hop in there like literally within watching the first lift i was like nah i, I'm good. Uh-huh, uh-huh.
Yeah, that's cool.
The Manitoba guys are good without me.
You guys got it covered.
Let you take it from here.
Yeah, so that was training ground gym.
So if you're ever in St. Malo, Manitoba,
that definitely looked like a gym that I would go train at.
Looking, Big Alex is posting some photos here in the Discord.
Looks like quite the place. Yeah, St a place yeah st mal oh he found some uh they probably do need a drink spotter light maybe we should uh send them
one as a thanks for their hospitality it did look like a really good gym though actually just from
what i could peek in through the door it does yeah it looks like a like a fun place yeah and anything else noteworthy yeah my other you know i could talk about the same
stuff if anyone goes on a trip but i had a couple mass and what i would call like massonomics worthy
notes of canada one was the speed limits garbage do better manitoba on the speed limits i'm not
even a lead foot kind of guy, to tell you the truth.
You're a plane.
I can't drive 55 the entire time.
I'm pretty good with speed limits for the most part,
although we live in a state where they allow.
Yeah, the interstate's 80 here.
Right, right.
You have 85 legally, basically.
You can always go five over.
So, yes, you go 85.
You have to be going 90 here in order to get in trouble.
Just to get in trouble.
You're doing pretty good.
Not that long ago, a lot of vehicles wouldn't comfortably go 90 for consistent periods of time. It is actually shocking, though.
Now being in the eastern and southeast part of the state,
I spend a lot more time on the interstate when I'm making trips around than what I used to.
It is fairly surprising, though, if you're driving 85, how rare it is for someone to actually pass you.
Oh, yeah, they don't.
You don't get passed very often.
I don't even think most people drive 80.
I don't think a lot don't either, but it's nice that you can if you want to.
Oh, yeah.
No, it's great.
It's great.
But that is the thing that's kind of amazing is you think, oh, we have it.
The speed limit's 80.
Everyone's going to drive 90.
No, no.
Most people probably drive 75 or slower still.
If you go like a little over 80
you really don't yeah it's really rare even if you do it's usually by someone going 110 yes you
know where you're like holy crap that person must be flying yeah yeah even if you have your cruise
set right at 80 it's you still are typically the fastest one in traffic yeah We ate at a barbecue joint in, I think that was in Steinbach.
It was called Big Smoke. And oh my God, was it good? And so I had this moment when I was looking
at the menu on the pricing, and this is my couple of massonomics notes. And I forgot about the
conversion. So I was just looking at the pricing and I'm like the really big meat platter thing
was like with multiple sides and all this shit, it was like 30 bucks or 28. And I'm like, yeah,
it's kind of expensive, but you are getting a lot with this. And if it's good, this is going to be
worth it. So like I was getting that and my wife, my wife was telling, you know, she was looking at
the prices and she was she was
repeating them back to me in the converted price and i was like what are you talking about twenty
dollars like this is like thirty dollars why are you saying this is 20 and i'm like oh yeah it's
like yeah so twenty dollars is all huh yeah it was like 19 that's for this damn cheap yeah yeah
and uh everything so actually the pricing on stuff was pretty good on the conversion.
You were living like a king.
You had to visit across the border and your money's just worth so much.
Their gas and liters.
Yep.
That's weird.
Throw me off a little bit.
Yeah.
Throw me off.
But the number one thing I wanted to talk about of all of the Canada stuff was these signs the signage these this outdoor advertising signage
that they have in Canada that we do not have here so not same billboards no not billboards what I
would call them is miniature homemade billboards they are everywhere and I assume we don't have
them because they're against ordinances because to to me, they look like dog shit.
So can I see this somehow?
What they are is, I don't know if someone listening live will explain better than I,
but they're, you know, the size of a couple of sheets of plywood usually.
So maybe they're, I would say, 10 by 10-ish.
They are not high in the air.
They're just sitting on like homemade stands on the ground.
So they're,
you know,
usually like two foot off the ground.
Okay.
About 10 foot high tops.
Um,
they're,
they're all the same too.
They're all.
So it's like this common thread.
They're all the same.
They all have a completely black background.
And then they have, it looks, I swear to God,
it looks like if you made a science fair project
and you cut out the letters all out of either neon green,
neon yellow, or neon orange.
Just the most obnoxious thing possible.
Yeah, all of the safety neon colors.
And it's for every business in every in every town oh they're actually advertising businesses
oh yeah they're advertising that's what yeah they're all i don't know if these were because
what you're saying it reminds me of around when it gets to be political season around here and
you see everyone all the farmers out in the country have their homemade billboards that
are just a couple four by eight sheets look it in the discord big mabel posted oh okay yeah yeah and they are everywhere like i mean they're everywhere everywhere you got like
got the coughs for some reason yeah okay i have seen those signs before i think that most
most cities in the u.s have ordinances against those signs yeah you know why because they're
so obnoxious they they're shitty they look they're shitty yeah signs you know why because they're so obnoxious they they're shitty
they look they're shitty yeah signs you know like and they're all uh and when every business has one
and then and you know coming into town like they have them plastered everywhere it looks like crap
yeah yeah i can see these are the ones that have the it's i was thinking you were saying it's like homemade letters it is those signs that have the slats where you can slide in letters and it's like
four or five levels of it and it's just the like have you ever seen these yeah these in south
dakota like i remember i actually remember uh when i was a kid the video store where i grew up used
to have one of these out in front of it and i I don't, I think that was only for a few years.
And then everyone realized,
yeah,
these are too obnoxious.
And cause I haven't seen one of these in forever.
Now that you know,
people are putting them in the discord here.
Uh,
but they actually stuck out like a sore thumb because we don't have them.
So,
and since they're everywhere,
I'm like,
what are those? Like, why have I, why don't I i see those and then i get a couple of those for the gym
but then i had that's and that's what the conclusion i came to just think about it
i suppose we can't because of if you could like the cost of those is nothing
so that's why all the businesses are doing south dakota doesn't even allow uh they have a city ordinance against uh
flutter flags you know the the tall ones that i can't think i think they're called flutter
i can't think what the hell they're called it's like people use that wacky inflatable tube bands
that probably is on the list too uh but it's like the the flags you see at like
trade show booths where they're tall, kind of like a blade shape almost.
You know, they might be three feet wide by 10 feet tall.
Right.
And then usually there's words running down them like the city of Aberdeen has an ordinance against those.
That's why you don't see those anywhere there either.
And I think most cities do because they are kind of obnoxious.
Right, right.
That's the thing I wanted to talk about the most was those signs.
The signage.
After all my travels, you would not believe the signage I've seen.
Some of these signs were just so ugly.
It just offended me so badly.
So I had to go to Manitoba to have really good barbecue,
and the signs were bad.
And that's Canada for you.
And that's Canada.
And there were some really strong people deadlifting in a gym on the side of a road yeah which of course right maybe we should get into a
can segment before i cough before i cough myself to death yeah you know i knew it was just the guys
tonight so i decided to kick it old school and go with the Pamplemousse. Oh, that is old school.
Mine might look like a Pamplemousse at first glance.
Let's say orange.
Orange.
Oh, it's been a while since I had a Pamplemousse.
It's good.
I like Orange LaCroix.
I'm not.
If we're going to say our citrusy fruits,
and I'm going to say lemon, lime, and orange,
orange would be in last place easy out of those three.
And you must not be alone,
because this is by far the least common that I see of the three. Yeah, you don't see that one a lot, actually.
It does taste like a...
I mean, it tastes a little like a sun kiss to me.
I can really feel the vibes.
Yeah, I can see that a little bit.
I'd give this a three and a half, flirting with a four.
Pamplemousse, four all day.
I've maybe even said four and a half in the past.
I don't even know.
Big Scant says that when he was in western northeast South Dakota,
he was taken aback by the number of billboards about pro-choice both sides.
What do you mean pro-choice both sides?
What does he mean both sides pro-choice?
Well, not pro-choice and like not pro-choice.
Oh, just about abortion in general, essentially.
Yeah, yeah.
Right, right, right.
Yeah, you know.
Like pro-choice just being one of the two sides.
There is a lot.
Conservative America, that honestly is,
that and gun control are basically people's two.
I don't see that many billboards about gun control.
No, because people, everyone here is just so pro-gun.
Right.
That they don't even need to talk about it.
It's hard to even find anyone that's like, yeah.
Abortion and gun control are so just ingrained
in people's brains of like, these are the two most important things in the world.
There definitely is a lot of abortion billboards.
There are.
That's actually funny you say it because I don't.
Just on the highway, they're just all over the place.
Yes, now that you say that, that's never really.
I feel like I'm kind of blind to billboards because they're so obnoxious and annoying.
Unless a certain gym is putting them together.
But yeah, there are a lot.
I'll let you say that.
It's never really clicked with me before.
None of them are as good as a Mastodonomics billboard, though.
Can we all say that?
No, not in the same ballpark.
You could say we changed the game when it came to billboards.
Did you see big...
Speaking of something completely different
did you see big dimitar savatinov was back in action and for whatever this is smashing records
yeah for whatever i i mean i sure there's some debate has to i would need a little explanation
a little clarification on what this record is specifically.
But he broke the American deadlift record of 1,031 pounds
is what the claim would be there.
So what's, you know, that's not the heaviest deadlift by an American ever.
No, but this goes back because I'm trying to remember,
didn't Dimitar used to have the record not that many years ago, too?
Because I remember back in the day, I believe it was on the PowerCast, RIP.
Gone but not forgotten.
I believe when Brian Shaw was on one of the early episodes, he had talked about, you know, Mark Bell was asking about things he wanted to do.
And I could have swore he made a comment that,
yeah, the American deadlift record,
it's not being held by an American,
so I need to go back and take that thing.
And for some reason in my mind, Dimitar had it then too,
and Brian Shaw was saying how he needed to go get that record.
But again, I don't completely get how that works.
Also, that is another interesting layer layer to this that dimitar savatinov has the american deadlift record yes uh i think he lives in florida yes
it's america it's a melting pot right right it is which which is true that is all very true and
you know i just i'm not particularly relevant but i like, is Dimitar like a citizen of the United States?
You know, is he like.
He could be.
Yeah, he might be.
He might be.
In which case then, yeah, I suppose that is.
But it's just funny.
Technically it's American holding the record.
Right, right, right.
But it is.
So what, who hosts, who's hosting this event that's determining the American deadlift record?
I don't know but i mean this
obviously excludes powerlifting numbers though because what did uh not only does it exclude
powerlifting numbers it also excludes a lot of america's strongest men too you know well yeah
because it's like what kind of deadlift you know because like what is jerry pritchett deadlifted
on the elephant bar you know i don't know maybe over a
thousand hasn't he yeah but maybe it wasn't as much as a thousand thirty one yeah maybe not maybe
the thousand thirty one is more than that but what about um what's his name we've had him on here the
sumo deadlifter the marine griggs world grigsby but Dan Grigsby? But is this record, this is done to a strongman standard
because he was hitching majorly.
Right, but it's funny that the record is like,
well, this one's different because this one allows hitching and straps.
So the other one doesn't count because it doesn't allow hitching and straps.
But that's also what's, to me, the oxymoron of strongman deadlifting is ever strongman's the
sport of it doesn't matter how you move the weight you just move it but then when it comes to deadlift
there's all of these little weird rules when it comes to strongman deadlift you know right more
so than any and i get people are gonna say oh but that's the that's the tradition of how that lift
is gone i don't know what the excuse is. It is weird that Strongman, though, has that one exception for deadlift
for how that's where all the rules come out.
Because Grigsby has done 10, 1075.
So he said it's also not, but it was sumo.
But it's the American deadlift record,
but it's also, but was done to a competition standard.
The American deadlift record was done
to a Strongman standard, not a powerlifting standard.
I mean, it was a much lower bar.
So I guess what you would say is this is maybe the most
that an American has deadlifted, not sumo,
with anything else allowed.
Yeah, right.
That's what, you know.
Again, it's just the joke of strength records.
It's like our powerlifting record holder shirt.
You just throw enough asterisks on it, and everything is a record.
That's not to take away from his lift.
It is a crazy impressive lift, without a doubt.
And the fact that Dimitar.
No, it's just we're talking about the nuances of these records.
Yes, I'm saying, yes, the record itself, how it's labeled is funny.
Dimitar, insane athlete.
I didn't realize he was still really going at these things even i
didn't know he's making a run at record still uh so yeah great on him that's awesome yeah
we've always been big dimitar we've always been on record as uh being big dimitar guys over here
dimitar since the first time we saw him at the ar. I wish we could get Dimitar on the podcast, to be perfectly honest.
That would be awesome.
What Dimitar told me is he doesn't really like to do podcasts,
but if we were ever in his area,
he'd love to sit and have a beer with us and hang out.
So we do have that open invitation.
Is that for real?
Yeah.
Really?
Yeah.
Yeah.
What part of Florida is he in?
That's a good question.
We might have to look that up a little bit more closely.
Well, that's cool.
I'd probably have more fun.
I mean, I would have more fun having a beer with Dimitar than doing a podcast.
Oh, yeah.
But everyone else could share in a little bit of fun if we do a podcast.
Right, right.
Yeah.
But do we really want to share Dimitar with everyone else?
Can't he just be our Dimitar?
We want to keep Dimitar to ourselves.
Yeah.
But it is funny also,
one of the big Davids is looking up the records,
you know, he's looking up,
I think Kale Beck kept some records
on Starting Strongman
and the Bulgarian deadlift record.
Do you know who that's held by?
Dimitar?
Dimitar, according to that site.
But then that brings up another interesting question.
So do you get to hold the record for more than one country?
Do you have dual citizenship?
Legally, you're allowed to.
So if you have dual citizenship,
then is that okay to have the record for both countries?
Because that seems odd.
That'd be the loophole.
I think if you have dual citizenship,
I give you permission to have the strongest deadlift in two countries.
Which leads us into Sam Sulik watch update 2023.
Dude, it is.
So he's over a million subscribers now yeah youtube now looking
right now he's at 1 million 140 000 holy god 1.14 basically growing 100 000 a week it's yeah
absolutely insane uh did you catch what he dropped on the world yesterday? Was it his full day of eating video?
An hour and a half long video.
Yeah.
And go look.
How many views do you think that video has?
I have right here, 898,000.
It's going to have a million views on it.
Straight up, Pixar does not make movies that are an hour and a half long sometimes.
They have a team of people and they don't make it an hour and a half i watched i scrubbed through
parts of it i watched a good chunk of it and man like that guy in a day for sure and i'm jealous
gets to spend more time related to gym activities than i do in an entire week you know between oh
yeah the eating well he's 21 and has, you know.
And it goes back to the thing of,
is there a better compliment to lifting than being in school?
Is that the best?
Oh, no.
Is that the best?
I think actually it's on the table talk with,
there's a table talk with Greg, Coach Greg, by my. Knuckles, Panora. Greg knuckles penora greg knuckles yes greg knuckles
with greg knuckles and he's talking about how much he his squat blew up like 200 and some pounds over
the course of like i don't know a year or two in college he goes really it is the perfect environment
for lifting you just eat all day and when you're not and then lift and when you're not eating and
lifting you just study and then sleep and i think. And when you're not eating and lifting,
you just study and then sleep. And I think he was saying how he'd sleep a lot of nights,
like 12 plus hours. And he goes, and you're just in the perfect state to lift. And that is the
truth. I mean, school is a lifting environment. Oh, it's hilarious. I love it. You know,
running the gym, I hear a lot of unsolicited excuses of why people don't show up to the gym
because when they see me there,
when they haven't seen me in a long time,
people feel like that.
I do not ask,
but people feel like they have to tell me why they haven't been there.
I never asked.
I got to get out in front of this one where Tanner calls me out.
I never ask.
And I never would.
Unless it's like one of my best buddies and I'm like gonna bust Larry's
Larry shows up where where the hell have you been were you and they're the joke is you know he's
been working 90 hours and he's the only the last time he's at the gym was literally the last time
he had free time right but the number of uh you know students that we've had that I know basically
don't even don't have like even a part-time job that are just students,
and they'll tell me that,
oh, it's just been crazy with school,
so they haven't been able to get to the gym.
I'm like, dude.
You don't even know.
I'm not going to go into it,
but you might as well just stop going to the gym now
because you are not ever going to be able to make yourself come
once you have a career, a family, a partner.
Don't even get me started on kids.
That is the biggest game changer that you come across as far as being able to continue to go to the gym is once you have kids.
That weeds out a lot of people.
Like if you like that weeds out a lot of people once that like that's like probably, you know, getting a girlfriend or then maybe even getting married. Those are two pivotal points that start to weed people out.
Having a kid, I think, is the ultimate weeder that I've come across over the year.
That 100 percent is is the kid one.
If you can.
And even then, it's not the first three months.
Oh, I'm really doing this.
It's not so bad.
It's like, no, no, no. Give it like it like a year two years wait till that second kid comes then then you're really in the
thick of it you're really fighting for your life then yeah and i don't even have three or four so
tanner i'm i that might be actually the case of where it actually is exponential tanner
uh i don't know yeah i mean like like the jokes aside it is all just like people can still
go to you just might literally not get to watch television anymore like if you're like i don't
want to go well go to the gym i might have to do it at a shitty time when i think about when i was
in college and i think like oh i was really busy this is a crazy week what was busy then is
is like my Monday morning you know like this was a crazy day it's like oh man today was so crazy
it's like no no I took care of that in three hours today you know right but that is the that I love
that excuse I almost have a hard time not audibly laughing when people when college kids tell me
they haven't been able to come to the gym because they've been so busy with school also I've done
that too so you can't trick me like it's not like oh no you know I went to that same college you're
going to and uh I also worked like full time at the same time and the degree after it too right
right so um but I'd not I never ask for the excuses.
They just get, they're on, these are unsolicited.
But what was the point there?
Yes, going to college is the perfect time.
Being a student.
The only time that can rival it in my experience is,
there are times in a military career that are also awesome for,
awesome for training because of the chow hall availability
and, you know the
encouragement of even working out at times but outside of that being a college student
freaking awesome especially if you're on the ball like i personally it worked awesome for me i plan
my classes accordingly you know some people might be like oh it's great i don't have any classes
before noon i can sleep in all day my goal was every day have classes done by noon. That meant I got to
go to the gym from like noon until, and then I didn't start working until four. So it's like,
I have like noon to four every day when I can go to the gym, eat, sit around, you know, like sweet
time. Right. Right. But that was, but I started class at like 8 a.m and had class until noon every
day you know um i so i don't but i i agree wholeheartedly that there is no better environment
for fostering a sweet lifting time than going to school.
But okay, so this was, this was all Sam Sulek.
Yeah.
So he did drop a video yesterday.
It was an hour and a half long, which was just mind blowing.
And it was really funny.
I read this in one of the comments and then fast forwarding to the video, I found a part of it.
He goes, oh yeah, I got to go do, I think he's when he's posing, you know, he's getting,
he has most of his pump done and oh
man this is just freaky you know like always going on about it and uh then he goes oh i gotta go do
like my forearms and something else but i won't post that whole thing or this will be an hour
and a half long video the video ends up being an hour and a half long anyways which is hilarious
but yeah he's looking really he's looking really jacked well he, he's on the cut. He's on the cut.
I know, I know.
The other part of the watch, last week I checked his Instagram.
He had 900,000 followers.
As long as we're looking, I'll check now.
He has 1.1 million followers on there,
so he went up a couple hundred thousand on that.
I like, you know, I mean, whether you like his videos or not is whatever,
but this is more than anything to me.
This is an interesting experiment in social media rise.
100%.
It's wild.
This should be a case study.
People should be dissecting this, how the hell this is going.
This is far exceeding being interesting for fitness YouTube. Like like this is interesting for like youtube oh some
of the biggest names in fitness youtube aren't doing this and have never done this like some
you know i mean we said it other weeks too but it's just like some accounts even outside of
fitness that have way bigger audiences try to do what he's able to do here and you know
cannot replicate it it's just it's insane it's kind of insane really makes you wonder how long
will this momentum keep up this is just i'm curious to see that does he get to two million
is that possible at the rate he's going we'll know we'll have that answer in uh just a couple weeks but that's he's gonna blow like uh what is brian shaw or eddie hall you know those are a couple of the
really big ones that i think about that i know have a big youtube eddie hall's at 2.7 million
brian shaw 1.9 million i he's gonna pass both of them like unless something i think he'll pass
both in short order yeah i think he'll pass. I think he will. He might pass them both in short order.
Yeah, I think he'll pass Brian.
I think he'll get to $2 million.
God, but doubling, though, that's another million.
And you know how much Brian puts into his YouTube?
I've watched it, and it's crazy.
He spent his whole life doing this,
so he has the expertise thing on his side.
He's got a whole team of people to help him with stuff.
It's not even in the same ballpark of student that drives his broken camry to the gym and then when
he gets done lifting goes and talks about how he's gonna go stay at his parents house so he can eat
their food for the weekend you know a totally different level of life yes it is wild but brian
isn't getting a freaky ass pump either though so that's true so who's the real winner there
should we read another well actually let me do uh should we do supporting our supporting members
read a couple ads then kick off the live audience and then we can get our uh surprise guest on the
they all don't know about yes we can kick them off right before that so first though we should do supporting our supporting
members big jordan known as atlantic strong on instagram speaking of canadians competed in a pro
am strongman competition uh he did come in closer to the bottom of the bunch but he was going against
a whole bunch of top guys i think it included like maxine boudreaux and a whole bunch of uh
high level strongman so it's kind of an accomplishment for him to even be up in that
category and competing against them there's a few massonomics crew members talking about Big Jordan here, Big Montoya,
probably leaving some others out.
Even in the strongman world, they are right up there on the cusp,
like competing with these really high-level people.
So that's kind of cool to see.
It's very cool to see.
Big Matt Sesney competed in his second ever Highland Games.
First time completing a weight over bar and successfully picking a caber.
Awesome.
So well done, Big Sesney.
Big Jose.
I think Jose is who sent us the spicy polar what's in the can.
Oh, yes.
And he did say he was able to do that because he lives close to where.
Yeah, I saw that.
Like the factory, right?
Yeah, right, right.
So he gets access to other small batch, which is pretty cool.
Yeah, that is cool.
And to get back, Big Jose, he competed in a Ragnar race, a team Ragnar race.
It was like participate like three or four times throughout.
It looked kind of cool.
And he wore his Ouch, Everything Hurts shirt.
So well done there.
Big Murloc Jones competed in a strongman competition.
He got third overall in the men's open heavyweight and an invite to 2024 USS Strongman Nationals.
Sweet.
Big Colton of Crew Falls competed down in Crew Falls
in a Strongman competition.
Yeah.
This is funny.
Yeah.
Was it Strongest on the Farm?
Something like that, yeah.
And it was funny because it was the week before
there was this pumpkin patch just south of where I live,
and we go to this pumpkin
patch with the kids and i see a banner strongest on the farm competition dead tractor deadlift all
these other things on the farm there you go yes yes tractor deadlift all these other things i'm
thinking how have i never heard of this and then i was later that same day i ran into colton at the
gym and he told me he was gonna compete in fittest at the farm so fittest on the farm and I think Colton did well he's here listening so he could even fill us in I know
he did a tractor pull event so that looked kind of fun that looked cool and every competitor got
a half bushel of apples yeah can't put a price on that you cannot you literally can't put a price
on a half of a bushel of apples they No, you cannot. They're priceless.
Then we have crew member number one, Big Dodzilla.
He competed at Great Lakes Strongest Man,
came in second place in his master's division, I believe.
Well done, Big Scott.
That looked like a big competition.
As a matter of fact, it was a big competition. We also had Big Tyler Thompson.
Speaking of another, here's another one, actually, right here.
I was talking about big Jordan earlier.
Big Tyler Thompson, a very strong, competitive, strong man.
He was also at Great Lakes Strongest Man with Dodzilla.
I saw one of them post a picture of the other.
I think Tyler posted a picture of Big Scott.
Tyler finished second among the pros in his first pro show.
It included a 770-pound deadlift,
and he won a really cool bat as an award.
Oh, I did see that.
It was on like a baseball field.
Yeah, that was really cool.
I like that.
They also all won a free bushel of lake water, right?
Yes.
And you can't put a price on that either.
Priceless.
Last one, we've got Big Basement Brandon.
He competed at USAPL Raw Nats.
Nats, as the kids call it.
Submaster?
He got third place.
No, not Submaster.
We're talking about an old man here.
He got third place in the 110-kilogram M1 class.
M1, okay.
Yeah, so masters, full-on masters, not sub.
But third place, he got third at nationals.
He podiumed at USAPL nationals,
and I think he had right around a 1,500-pound total.
Damn.
One last note.
Big Keith mentioned it in the Discord right here.
I can confirm there is a new crew Masonomics tattoo.
This is the fourth confirmed Masonomics tattoo.
I can't spill the beans as to who it is yet.
It is a supporting member. I don't even know who it is yet.
No, I haven't told you yet.
What I would say is they're not an active supporting member in the Discord,
but it's a very well-known person,
maybe less known for being a supporting member,
but very well-known amongst the community,
that does have a Mastinomics tattoo on them now.
And by not being coy by calling something a Mastinomics tattoo
that's barely a Mastinomics tattoo,
this is very much a Mastinomics tattoo.
I need to get my Mastinomics guess who board out
and start playing right now.
Does he have a beard?
Oh, damn it.
That didn't narrow anyone down. I should not have voiced my question, but does he have a beard? Oh, damn it. That didn't narrow anyone down.
I should not have wasted my question,
but does he have a beard?
I just got to get this one out there.
Uh,
does he have tattoos?
Well,
he does now.
Uh,
okay.
So that's our supporting our supporting member segment.
If you'd ever like to get on there, step one, just become a supporting member.
Log on to our website.
Go to massanomics.com slash join.
That's where we've got all supporting member options available.
We'd love to have you sign up.
You know, part of this is how we give back is this supporting member,
supporting our supporting member segment, but also there's a discount code.
Probably the coolest thing is you get access to our online Discord community
that's full of a whole bunch of silly goose time, like-minded individual,
cool stuff going on in there all the time.
Whenever you want to check it out, it'll be there for you.
And just sign up.
We'd love to have you support.
We've had a few new ones come in over the last couple
days and it just it never gets old i love it anytime seeing someone sign up uh new it's just
it's always fun we'll be starting the initiation for these pledges uh in late september so if you
want to get in on that and we well and we do like you know we do also give away these occasional free...
I mean, it's not free.
It's like a part of your membership.
We do these kind of...
I mean, at least I think cool giveaway...
Member gifts.
Member gifts for only crew people.
The last one was...
What was the last one that we did?
It wasn't the patch.
It wasn't the card.
Oh, it is.
Everyone got an
actual two dollar jefferson bill and there's a letter and some exclusive stickers exclusive
stickers and stuff in there so those won't be the last of those we've kind of started to put
wheels in motion on what the next one will be we don't know the exact timing of when that's
going to be but i guess i would just say get signed up as soon as you can and then you'll
be involved in that next one.
Eventually there will be a line in the sand.
Because there will be a next one.
Yeah, you want to be on the right side of that line.
And you want to be on the right side of the Strength Co.
Did you see, Tommy, the Strength Co. posted today?
Photo of the bumpers?
They're made in America bumper plates that are coming out.
45, so if you've been in the market for for bumper plates and you've always wanted them to be made in america
and could not get them before you can now the strength co is coming out with 45s 25s and 10s
in bumpers and they're all with all bump, you do all of them the full size, right?
Yes.
Okay.
Yes, otherwise it doesn't really make sense. Doesn't bump as good?
Well, it just doesn't.
Like, what would a two-and-a-half-pound bumper?
Well, don't they do, like, those little ones just on the outside of them
for, like, Olympic competitions, actually?
I don't know what those are even made out of, though.
Yeah, also Olympic plates, though, aren't really bumpers in the same way as these not well you
know your average bumpers are the crossfit gym yeah yeah these are a little yeah those ones are
a little different but like those competition calibrated olympic yeah those are a different
animal right right um so yeah check check out the new bumpers.
And, of course, you know, are you worried,
is the Stringo going to stop making what they've come to be known and loved for,
their made-in-America black E-coated smooth easy-to-grip iron plates,
the best iron plates in the game?
No, they're not going to stop with the iron plates.
Iron plates are still their bread and butter.
This is just like a little bit of jam. Like if you want, maybe if still their bread and butter this is just like a little bit of uh
jam like if you want maybe if someone likes their loves bread and butter it's their go-to but then
they just want like a little jam on top occasionally now they got the bumper plates they got that
you know the if you're so for our british listeners the iron plates are the beans and toast
oh i was gonna say the regular plates of the toast these are the beans and toast. Oh, I was going to say the regular plates are the toast. These are the beans for the toast.
Well, I almost think
the iron plates are still
the beans and toast.
Like the bumpers would just,
whatever,
what would those weird
British people have?
Like, it would be maybe like...
Like Vegemite or something?
Yeah, it might be
something disgusting.
What other disgusting things
do they like?
Is one of the Davids on
that he could film?
What disgusting things
do you guys eat
black pudding yeah of course the bumper plates are the black pudding pudding that's like not
even pudding it even sound like sounds just unappetizing like
yeah and for our canadian listers i know we got a few canadian what you know what so the
the iron plates are the stranko iron plates are the poutine or maybe the pancakes and syrup
one of those two and the bumper bumper plates are
those stupid or those uh those signs on the side of the road or yeah or maybe the bumper plates
no i don't want to shit on the bumper yeah yeah the bumper plates are like the full
the the ketchup chips or the full dress chips whatever they are right they're still i don't
know i'm supposed to like these because i kind of do for some reason yeah that's a good analogy
for the bumper plates you're like i didn't know i needed these but now i see how much i like these actually yeah i guess i do need the bumper plates. You're like, I didn't know I needed these, but now I see how much I like these actually.
Yeah, I guess I do need the bumper plates also.
All dressed.
There you go.
All dressed chips.
All dressed.
Yeah.
When you're like, yeah, all right, all dressed chips.
I think I'm good with what I have here.
And they're like, well, try these all dressed chips.
All right.
Maybe there's something going on.
Maybe I am interested now.
That is like the bumper plates.
I like the Canadian reference better than the british one because the
british stuff all sounds gross and i don't want to say make the i don't want to make the bumper
plate sound bad like black pudding like that's code for like mold like why can't it just be
chocolate pudding something that tastes good good uh all right is that the end of the strength co-ed uh yes all right okay i didn't want to cut
you off and and add i didn't want you to stop your brainstorming analogy session short

Tanner, just a little brainstorming here while I was reading that ad.
It's kind of related to the ads.
Is it wool pants related?
Not quite.
Kind of related to the ads, so I wasn't totally cheating.
But business idea, Canada Link.
And we just sell Canadian goods.
Oh.
Canadian Link.
Kind of like Swiss Link. Kind of like Swiss Link.
Kind of like Swiss Link.
Except it'll be Canada Link.
Not like Swiss Link.
We'll sell like letters for black, these giant black signs.
We'll sell letters cut out of construction paper in art class.
Neon colors.
And they'll go on there.
And then we'll also have all dress chips.
That'll be the two
products that start the store i think you're on to something
somebody selling those letters for those signs to make it a killing oh yeah
can't cost most of the real those are the real that that's the real winner in that whole sign
sign pyramid scheme they got going on there.
It's the people selling those letters.
Mm-hmm.
All right.
Am I supposed to kick everyone off now?
Yeah, we better.
We got a surprise guest that we don't want them to know about.
Don't want to spill the beans, you could say.
No, we don't want to spill the beans.
We've got toast to put these beans on.
So remind me again, what is, when Brits eat beans on toast,
so it's, you know, we'll say it's toasted white bread.
I don't know if they, it's white bread.
It's probably something grosser than white bread.
It's probably not even toast also.
Well, that's what I mean.
Are we talking toast?
I don't know.
We're talking toasted bread.
I honestly, I think we've looked this up before, but I do not remember.
It's probably, whatever the most disgusting version of bread is.
It's probably just called toast because it's all old and dry bread.
That's what I was going to say.
I bet it's like really crusty dry bread.
Like you knock it against something and it goes like...
You know, it bangs against it.
It just crumbles apart.
It's not even warm like toast.
You don't put it in the toaster.
It's just like really hard and old.
Beans on toast is a breakfast tradition in the UK.
It's both adorned and loathed that has stood the test of time.
The story goes back to 1927.
An executive at Heinz decided to create a national dish
in order to sell more canned beans,
and the iconic dish was born. Man, I'm assuming that Heinz executive was an American right Heinz is an
American company isn't it I isn't it's it's Pittsburgh right yeah we talked to let's say
they got duped on that one they got tricked on that one you fell for all this marketing gimmick
in the book the Americans got him again again american tricky into making a new national dish and it was beans on
toast couldn't have been something a little better well i mean it could have been but it wasn't
like there's a reddit thing i'm an american but want to try beans on toast it's not as simple
as emptying a can of hind beans on toast right like what else do you need to add the comment
first comment it's literally that easy just cook the beans so that's what it is and you dump them
on the toast does that sound good to you no i mean i'd eat it i'd totally no it doesn't sound
it's not bad but i'm not
gonna go out of my way to think that that's does that sound like a breakfast meal no it does not
sleep is that what they eat it is for breakfast i thought you said i thought somebody you read
that did i read that i'm already forgetting what i read oh yeah it is a breakfast tradition no
it's not a breakfast meal it's not that's like what i can see you're in a pinch for lunch if you put like oh i've got some bread and i've got some beans and
i guess i'll put them together and this will make this a little bit better maybe i don't know this
picture i'm looking at here has an egg on it and i can see if you're going to dress it up with an
egg and some things how you could make a breakfast item but oh you put maybe you put some meat on
there and then you have some beans and all of a sudden you've got got something but yeah all right enough of that cuisine talk what's uh we got some other fun things on here we duped
everyone there's not a guest this episode that was uh tricking those suckers now they got to wait
all the way till you know they'll hear this on sunday building the anticipation for five more
days those sons of guns got us uh but i do have a special comeback segment this week oh pulled
from the depths of massonomics lore not heard for years and years what yeah a segment that we
probably have not played in three years i'm just guessing i'm really just making that up do you
have any idea what segment it is?
I'm not going to let you guess because you'll guess something that sounds more fun than this.
And I'll be like, well, no, it's not that. I have a rough guess looking at the Asana here.
I have not clicked on it yet, but if I had to make an educated guess. Yeah, don't click on it.
Don't click on it. I've not clicked on it, but my educated guess is who weighs more.
Yes. So the segment is who? Otherwise, if you didn't ask me that,
I don't think I would.
If I didn't have the sheet up,
I don't think I would have guessed that though.
Okay.
So it's much anticipated,
long awaited,
far overdue comeback
of who weighs more.
Sometimes called what weighs more
depending on if it's people or objects.
Sometimes it's objects versus people
and then it's who slash what weighs more. A if it's people or objects. Sometimes it's objects versus people,
and then it's who slash what weighs more.
A real mental exercise.
So anyone that doesn't remember, we used to play this game.
A lot of times we'd use lifters and compare it to other things,
and Tommy has to decide his best educated guess at what or who weighs more.
It kind of ties into that meme of americans will literally use anything to
not use the metric system you just had a post like that this week yes this is why it is five
chicken bakes or whatever yes yes ah i should have used chicken bakes in this actually so
that's something to think about in the future okay all right so what weighs more
dimitar's deadlift record?
Or a male wild yak?
1031 or a male wild yak.
In my mind, a yak is similar to a deer or something like that, or a gazelle.
No, a yak's more like a bull, isn't it uh you can't answer the questions though can you because you're just a neutral you're just the host i'm just yeah
i think a yak is i was thinking more like a gazelle i think it's more like a water buffalo
i think it's more in those lines uh when i hear yak i just think of ace ventura on the airplane. Yak. I think of yakety yak.
Don't talk back.
That too.
Yeah, I think a yak weighs more.
I think a yak is going to be bigger here.
And you are correct.
Presumably.
You know, I mean, there's a lot of different yaks out there,
so you have to make some assumptions on this.
uh you know i mean there's a lot of different yaks out there so you have to make some assumptions on this but a full a full grown male wild yak can can get up to if not exceed 2 000 pounds oh yeah
so yeah that makes sense i thought it was in into tricky there at first when you're on the deer
yeah i'm thinking because i'm thinking oh that can't be more than a few hundred pounds but
that's way too much of a softball.
He's giving me there's got to be right, right, right.
I get the right animal.
Okay, so next one up here.
And oh, I guess it would have made more sense if we would have talked more about USAP on the Nationals first before this one.
But that's all right.
We'll talk about that later.
Around it.
Who weighs more?
We'll talk about that later.
Get around to it.
Who weighs more, Austin Perkins,
who just recently competed at USAPL Nationals,
or Danny DeVito?
So I think because before the podcast,
you mentioned Austin Perkins, I believe,
broke Taylor Atwood's record, which is which is 160 something whatever that weight class is uh but danny devito he's pretty stout he's very little but stout i think i'm gonna say danny devito weighs more let me see if this will help you at
all danny devito is listed at four feet 10 inches tall yeah i think we've talked about this before
because that was my guess was going to be 411 but i knew it was i knew it was under five feet um i still think danny devito might weigh more
correct the best information i could have i i did find conflicting information but the most
most recurring reliable thing i could find is that he weighs about 190 pounds all right yeah
i believe in austin perkins we've got competing at 165.
That makes sense to me.
So you're correct.
All right.
Last one.
For the sweep. And this one's kind of worth all the marbles.
You can do a full clean sweep right here.
What weighs more?
Sam Sulik, given he's on the cut.
He does put his weight, body weight, in the title of every video.
Does he really?
I actually never pay attention to that yeah like like it says like with the decimal point cheating if i look
right now or not no i think you can look at that because i've just never paid this close of
attention yeah oh okay i don't know why i've yeah never i've never looked at those numbers i've just
read right just another humorous thing about
his thing where it's like he's his title of his video is just like cut date like yeah 232 point
but i'm totally in shock that i've my brain is just read over that number i don't know if i was
thinking of it as an episode number or something or if i just blanked it out but i had no idea that was there yeah 235 it's
usually down to the decimal point too right so there is right so sam sulik or six cinder blocks
all right a cinder block okay so six sam sulik weighs 230 ish
Sam Stulik weighs 230-ish.
So six cinder blocks would have to be about 40 pounds each.
Does a cinder block weigh 40 pounds?
God, that is a nice even number for them to weigh.
It's been so long since I've lifted a cinder block, though, that I just can't in my mind think of how heavy they are.
I think Sam Stulik's probably heavier than six cinder block, though, that I just can't in my mind think of how heavy they are.
I think Sam Sulik's probably heavier than six cinder blocks.
And for the clean sweep, you are correct.
Sam Sulik is marginally heavier than six cinder blocks.
A cinder block weighs, you're very close, typically 35 pounds.
So six of them coming in at 210 pounds.
Just short.
Yeah, just shy. Sam Sulik does weigh more than, I mean,
unless this cut goes on for a long time.
Depending on how crazy, depending on how freaky this cut gets.
Yeah.
This answer could change.
But at least for now, Sam Sulik still weighs more than six cinder blocks,
but not more than seven cinder blocks.
That's the line.
Six is the line.
So that was Who Weighs More.
I mean, does this become a re-recurring segment?
I guess stick around for future weeks to find out if Who Weighs More comes back or not.
And you'll actually have to stick around for three more years just in case it takes a while to come back. It might actually take three more years until it comes back.
I just felt like a wild hare and just doing a little who weighs more.
That's good.
I like that.
Yeah, we talked about big supporting member basement,
Brandon, competing at USAPL Nationals.
That went on this last weekend.
We used to talk more about stuff like that,
but we don't talk about that much anymore.
I literally made like two notes of the whole thing. One was that angelo fortino former guest of the podcast did win first at
nationals in the 82 and a half kilogram weight class he beat um sean noriega former guest of
the massonomics podcast and beat everyone else i guess that was in that weight class too but
of note short sean noriega and then the other highlight i wrote down was that austin perkins in the 165 class he totaled
1,876 pounds which is so crazy taylor atwood's best ever by quite a tested male athlete 614 highest ever for so i mean it's just weird
because it's like people always think that somebody has this record that's a little bit
untouchable and like i feel like like taylor atwoods was maybe that for a while and now it's
like oh no somebody beat that already by quite a bit ray's thing was right squat was unbeatable
race total was unbeatable
for a while.
It's like,
oh no,
now somebody,
even younger,
even stronger.
And then I think,
and like Austin Perkins,
I saw his,
like his lifts looked easy.
Like it,
like it looked like
he probably could have
totaled 19 something
without breaking a sweat.
And these results
from what I can see
aren't really up
anywhere yet. at least in the
obvious spots where we typically look so i don't know right there was another guy at i wish i knew
his name well and it wasn't bob i don't think it was bob matthews because i think he got second i
saw so it must have been whoever beat bob matthews and what what about Ashton Ruska? What did he do?
That's a good question, too.
Because I'm sure he won first in his weight class.
Actually, I say I'm sure, but maybe I don't actually. Powerlifting, but it's not that.
Yeah, Ashton Ruska was the 110-kilogram champion.
He totaled, so in the 242 weight class, he totaled 2,135 pounds.
Who did? Ashton Ruska at 242 weight class, he totaled 2,135 pounds. Who did?
Ashton Ruska at 242.
And what was the total?
2,134.
Yeah, that's a lot.
Drug tested 242 over 2,100.
That's nuts.
Yeah, it is nuts.
It does.
I'm sure if you put it on a chart and looked at it, the numbers,
probably if you look at a line, it probably does just stay constant up and to the right.
But it just seems like there's a few years where it's somewhat level, nothing happening.
And then someone comes along and then crushes it, and then it stays level for a while.
Then a new person comes along and crushes it.
Makes you wonder how long that can go.
It seems to always
just be able to keep going like this this 165 one it's like finding the people it is but at 18 okay
1876 pounds at 165 so somebody's gonna total 2000 10 years from now yes is a drug tested
165 hundred gonna total 2k because that doesn't even make sense 165 pounds is not very is is very light that is like there's not very many people in
mass dynamics gym that way no even even if you are let's say five three five four 165 is still
not that heavy for that frame you know you're not you don't look fat that's for sure no oh no no you
have to yeah i mean also these people are extremely lean too.
They're very muscular, extremely lean.
They're doing a cut.
They probably all normally weigh 10 pounds more than that.
Right, right.
Yeah, it's wild.
My biggest take note from the USAPL Nationals,
I think it's already happened to an extent in the women's side
that a lot of these top women drug tested power lifters have already
switched to power lifting america which would essentially is ipf you know to be able to compete
at ipf worlds it seems like more and more of the men are headed that way uh part of angelo winning
his weight class is not that he maybe wouldn't have anyways you know it could have been in
contention but russell or he made the switch you know he's
no longer in that usapl nationals and by the sounds of it a lot of these other guys are making
that switch to like they wanted to do nationals maybe first and then they're working on making
the switch and it starts to beg the question after a while yeah what how many of the top level drug tested american power lifters
have to go to power lifting america and ipf for then usa being a usa pl national champion to not
really mean anything because yeah you're a national champion because all the good guys yeah yeah lift in a different
federation that you're the national then it becomes the power then it's just like the power
lifting joke then it's our joke of the t-shirt yeah you're like no i'm a national champion
yeah right yeah but it also again show i don't maybe i have the wrong thought process here but
there's no point in doing a powerlifting America meet unless you have
actual possibility.
I mean,
if it's local,
sure.
And it's convenient,
but to go out of your way to do it,
it makes no sense to do a powerlifting America meet unless you actually have
chances at a world's world competition.
Right.
Unless people more and more keep switch,
you know,
like,
but right now now but the
thing is people are switching yeah like the top people are switching but it goes back to the the
whole thing of okay you're back under the ipf umbrella of just so many oh yeah that are annoying
yeah it makes no sense to go out of your way to do those meets unless you actually have world
aspirations and not aspirations but actual right shot otherwise do a usap l meet or do any other
one all right it does it basically that yeah unless just enough people switch that if all
of a sudden everyone like if like all the people are doing the power lifting america nobody's doing
usap l after a while you're like well i'm not going to do a usap l like there's just no competition
of any kind like everyone's doing that one like even if the rules are like it's like oh that's just what i have to do by default because it. Like everyone's doing that one. Like even if the rules are like,
it's like,
well,
that's just what I have to do by default because it's what everyone's doing.
Even if the rules are hostile towards the lifter and the expenses are that much
more and it's just,
everything's wrong.
I guess.
Yeah.
If everyone goes there,
but it doesn't make sense though.
If it is in your backyard and it's convenient to do,
it makes sense.
I understand that.
Then it's like do literally whatever federation is there.
Yes, you should just do the one that's closest.
Especially from our perspective in South Dakota,
you know, over the years,
it's like now you just do whatever federation you can get to.
Yes, where a close meet means it's only three and a half hours away.
But otherwise, for the most part,
that federation only needs to exist to cater to the top 0.1 of lifters right right right
but then it's weird because the national champions are like
out of the i guess it's just yeah it's just weird it's just weird that then like the national
champions yeah like i'm a national and i'm not saying it's even the case now because there still
seems to be a lot of the top people there but even with those guys a couple
years but even with those guys though i don't think the yes a national championship is important but
they really they're after the the world championship aren't they like that is the
ultimate goal there right well i think so but the people right now that i don't know what i don't
know because like russell or he had made the decision up until now to stay USAPL,
and by doing that, he couldn't compete for a world championship,
even though he probably would have been in contention for that,
but he made the choice to stay at USAPL and just do like nationals.
Like I think they were getting people to make that decision for a while,
but I think after a couple years in now, think people are are doing that what you're saying
they're just like but it's the draw of worlds is what the right no it's the draw of worlds for sure
but they seemed like they were able to keep people away from that for a while
like draw them in with something else i don't know what exactly was holding them
but now it's starting to be like no i do want the worlds yeah like i i changed my
mind i do want that now yeah so then i then i just wonder what does the national championship mean if
all the best in the nation are not competing in that right yeah yeah you do got a point
i i think the answer is it means a lot depending on who was around that year.
Right?
Right.
But then because you even have to have that pre-qualifier of like,
well, who was in your weight class?
Then it just by default means less.
But to an extent, you could do that with both of them.
True.
Yeah, that's actually, that is the case right now because actually you have
a national championship yeah it's probably been working right more that way that there's been
but if like the you know if the next top five i'll make the switch to then eventually it gets
to be the op you know then it just flips but yeah that's uh not that any of that is relevant to us well i think that's what
people need to remind themselves too is that this is if this is relevant to you know what's relevant
to you there's no yes you're not having a question in your head of if this is relevant to you or not
if you're doing that then it's clearly not relevant to you right deep down if this matters
to you or not right speaking of things that also don't really matter to us
all that much, but I thought were interesting.
Planet Fitness
has had the same CEO for 10 years.
Really? They just canned
him unexpectedly. Really?
And their stock
price also took a pretty big
hit. It was like maybe like closed like down
20% that day, something like that.
And what I thought was interesting, the CEO, he's worked for the company for over 30 years.
He worked his way up from a front desk position.
That is pretty impressive.
To become CEO of the company.
I always, in my mind, give one major props to people that do that and also props to companies that do that because that
is props to the company because that is turning more and more of a thing of that ceo is just
turned into a title that you just have and you just get to have that forever it's not
so many companies will not hire into that anymore it seems like for sure you know i keep a pretty
close tab on how ceo hiring goes so clearly know what I'm talking about here.
But that is the impression I get is that CEO hiring is kind of the old boys club.
And I think for anyone that works in any sort of corporate job,
it's respectable when you see the promotion from within.
Oh, yeah.
Because a lot of ways it becomes more rare,
even to a smaller scale promotion from within becomes rarer.
So I always. Well, I think it looks good on a company. It's just, yeah. There's two ways, though. becomes more rare even to a smaller scale promotion from within becomes rare so i always well i think
but it looks good on a company it's just yeah there's two ways though sometimes people don't
like it because like oh this asshole that i work with got it i've been there longer than him
there's that and then then that person quits and leaves like that's how that actually plays out you
know the other person quits and leaves and and then the flip side of it though is you think oh
there really is a chance to move up in
this company i don't have to work this same job for 40 years you mean if i have if i have uh if i
put a little initiative in i could be rewarded oh okay yes that's that so i did think that was
interesting also just interesting like that i wonder what's going on with planet fitness you
know because it's a very i wouldn't say it's a unique gym business model but it's a very like particular model that they
run with very low memberships and just getting just a whole bunch of members getting nobody to
come to the gym they would prefer you don't even show up to be perfectly honest about it probably
and uh i just wonder if it's uh if it's not working as well or anything like that,
or maybe it's just a particular situation with this individual too.
That is interesting.
Yeah, I'm just seeing some of these articles here.
I had not heard about this.
Yeah.
Hmm.
So there it is.
Stocks.
That's a commercial yeah commercial gym commercial gym update
massonomics gym although steady as a rock under the same ceo leadership as as always so
no changes there and actually i you know i am the front desk person and the ceo all at once
and the toilet cleaner.
Someone's got to do it.
We also promote from within and we devote from within.
All duties stay from within this body right here. Uh-huh.
Did you have something here about walking?
Oh, God.
about walking oh god this this i this is more this is one of the most frustrating things that has happened to me in a long time so i take my dog for a lot of walks a lot of walks i'd like
to get out and walk you work at a desk bernie for anyone bernie yes been around for a while
you good friend of tanner's yeah bernie not a big fan of me so much you know it just takes a few years
to warm up to you I guess he's still working never warmed up to be still working on that one
yeah but a lot of times now by the time the kids get to bed get some random things done whatever
I won't take him for a walk until maybe 8 3030 or 9 o'clock, which means it's dark outside now.
And the other day, took him for a walk.
It's dark outside.
No big deal.
Do it all the time.
The entire winter, it's dark at 5 o'clock.
So we do most of our walks at dark anyways.
And I'm walking through the neighborhood like I do every day, twice a day, all the time.
No, nothing surprises there.
And I'm going to walk, to step onto the sidewalk like I normally do.
And the sidewalk takes a little kink away from me.
So rather than walk ahead three feet to walk right back three feet, I just cut through the grass.
It's one step.
I put one step in the grass.
No big deal.
I put a second step in the grass and I think I broke my ankle.
It hurts so bad.
And so you did you twist your your ankle i rolled it so hard
and immediately something well this is the thing immediately i'm hopping i'm no stranger to rolling
my ankle i've rolled my ankle a bunch of my life it sucks every time i've had some pretty gnarly
ones over the years but it'd been a while since i'd done this and i'm like hobbling screaming oh
god oh this hurts and the first thing my mind is I didn't roll it on the ground.
There was no,
like nothing caught me.
It just,
it's like,
it just snapped on something.
So I go back and look and in the grass,
there is a hole.
That's about,
I don't know,
a foot,
a foot circle.
And I have to have my flashlight on my phone out to see this.
There's a fiber optic utility line and they just didn't have the,
the cover was just,
you know,
it's like a little miniature plastic manhole cover.
It's just loosely laying to the edge of it.
Yes.
Yeah.
Just like that loosely laying to the edge of it.
So yeah,
anything can fall down there anytime.
And I'm thinking this feels like negligence on someone's part that runs
these things at these.
Cause I've actually noticed several of these in the neighborhood where the
covers are not on them.
They're just laying on them.
And I'm pissed because now I'm thinking,
well,
I'm like three or four blocks from home.
My wife can't come get me cause the kids are sleeping.
So I got to somehow.
It was pretty bad.
Oh yeah.
It was bad.
So I'm like hobbling,
basically hopping home on one foot and hobbling the rest of the way.
And I get in.
You don't roll your other ankle.
I get in.
I'm so pissed off. I'm so annoyed. and my wife was up and i'm telling her this and she goes well did you break it i'm like no but it hurts and i'm mad and i'm still just can't get
through my head that some dumb ass isn't putting these covers on and because of that that was the
issue with your internet connection last time probably it probably was so yeah i was so and then because that night
i can't even sleep i'm so mad i just all i'm thinking about is to snap my ankle something
happened here and it's messing up my sleep now because i'm brooding on it and i'm pissed off
and i wake up in the morning now this is monday morning in the worst attitude about it because
it still hurts i can't walk on it and my wife who is in the medical field says, you know,
she looks at it and it's not like swole. This is weird. So I've had ones where I've rolled my ankle
and it's swelled. I've had black and blue marks up my leg, down my feet, like to my toes. Yeah.
And this one, it was swollen, but it wasn't black and blue, but there was one spot specifically
where it hurt really bad. And I'm like, this is different than normal.
Maybe something's up here.
And I'm just so fuming in my head.
She goes, well, if you think it's that bad, maybe you need to go get it looked at.
So I'm like, you know what?
Maybe I do.
And that was the wrong move because that made me even more pissed off because I'm just thinking,
I just need like a doctor to look at this.
Maybe give me an x-ray.
That shouldn't take long, right? No, no long right no no no no of course it takes forever it takes so long and so then I'm just
getting even more mad because I have shit to be doing and I'm spending my entire morning at this
I'm just seeing red basically by the time I'm doing this and then they want me to stick around
for the x-ray and my wife's telling me do not she's messaging do not stick around for the x-ray you'll be there two more hours for the results
just leave they can call you and tell you okay so i leave and i go home and eventually six o'clock
that night this this started at nine in the morning six o'clock that night i get the phone
call your ankle's okay and at this point i'm like yeah i know it's okay i And at this point, I'm like, yeah, I know it's okay. I've gone through the day.
I'm finally over my angriness,
my jadedness about the dumbass worker
that didn't put the cover on,
and then the doctor's office taking too long
and being mad about me.
I'm over it.
I think I'm fine.
I just, oh, man, I was in a really bad mood
for a while there.
So I'm happy to report now my ankle is pretty good.
Still not to the point where I trust myself to a squat workout
or anything that involves any major ankle flexion.
Thinking maybe by the time Friday rolls around,
I could possibly be pushing it there.
But it's coming around.
So I probably only have like a $500 bill for x-rays coming in the mail.
Yeah.
If it's not one thing,
it's another.
Oh,
it is.
And I can't complain.
I am.
I'm healthy.
That is the answer I wanted.
That's a way better than saying,
yeah,
you broke your ankle.
You need to cast that.
Right.
Yeah.
Right.
But it was really the thing that just,
it just pissed me off that someone somewhere is not putting these damn covers on them or
whoever's job it is to make sure
they're on i feel like that's not i feel like that's not good i i hear fiber optic lines are
super expensive it seems like having that thing opened and exposed would be a problem but um
yeah it that's just the way it is i guess i'm over it now
hashtag submasters yeah yeah i really this one though it got me good when it first happened
i thought what in the hell and the way the way my leg just dropped out on me i knew
like you know normally when you roll your ankle hard it's like yeah you get that rebound off the
ground or it's like yeah it slams in but it just had this weird catch and a free fall and i it's
the only time i ever rolled my ankle where I thought,
I need to go back and look what happened here, actually.
You ever, not in this case, obviously, but you start to roll it
and you even, like, catch it as it's going on
and, like, get all your weight off of it quick and be like,
oh, no, no, not there, no.
Yep, I've done that too several times.
It's kind of like a fake, like, psyched out the rolling uh the rolling there right where it like starts to do the really quick rolling
snapping motion but you just kind of like nope nope still tender but i didn't quite hear it
yeah i've had the worst one i ever had was when i used to play city league volleyball and you know
i was a little lighter i could jump pretty high and when i came i was coming full
speed at the net from the back to spike it i mean i was up there and i came down all my weight
landed there was a guy at the net blocking and his foot was down and i came down on that
and i for real that was the only time in my life where when i hit the ground i thought i don't even
know if my foot's there like it felt like it was just gone yeah and that one took me a while to recover from but yeah basketball was a killer like once a year for like seven years straight i
would do one you know when where you get you end up in the air cast thing and you're wearing that
thing around and where it is purple from like your toes here and you can't it's like you actually
can't walk on that you can't walk on it and even putting your socks on is nearly impossible yeah you know just getting your foot into that position it yeah it sucks yeah the old the old
cankles so i'm on the men but on the upside though i did hit another spoto spoto press pr
well it's not gonna hurt your spoto press so it's not hurting my spoto press so that'll keep moving
i guess which reminds me juggernaut ai that's what you're doing your spoto press with uh it's not hurting my SpotoPress, so that'll keep moving, I guess. Which reminds me, Juggernaut AI, that's what you're doing your SpotoPress with.

Buddy Capps first started lifting weights in the late 60s and began powerlifting in the mid-70s.
At the time,
he was working for Image Barbell, building gym equipment. Around 1976, a local machine shop started making Olympic bars for them, calling it the Image Bar. In 1977, Image Barbell became
champion barbell. It was then that Buddy started looking at the bars with an intent of changing
them for the better. Fast forward to today, through all of Buddy's trials and tribulations
and crazy inventions, and he's now released the 29 millimeter Texas Power Bar. It's strong as a

Tommy, we've got this little game that we've been known to play on this podcast called Overrated Underrated.
Ooh.
been known to play on this podcast called overrated underrated if you're feeling uh familiar if you're well versed familiarized with the rules we could probably jump right into it
i think so i've got a special hand-picked set of topics that are just for you today
so number one overrated or underrated stanley kubrick
okay this is a little tricky because he is one of the highest rated directors of all time.
Who do you think is the highest rated director of all time?
Well, that's a tough question because it goes into semantics a little bit.
Do you say highest rated, most popular?
Yeah, most popular.
You got to say Spielberg is up there, right?
James Cameron has to be up there too. most popular. Yeah, most popular. You got to say Spielberg is up there, right? James Cameron has to be up there too.
Most popular.
Yeah.
Oh, Alfred Hitchcock.
Yeah.
Scorsese, Kubrick.
Scorsese, yeah.
Tim Burton.
Yeah, those are good options, actually.
Christopher Nolan, yeah, yeah, yeah.
But he's in the discussion.
Yes, yes. yeah yeah yeah but he's in the discussion yes yes um i do wonder
you know he is old his movies are old enough that there might be a new generation that's not
totally aware of some of those movies the hipster people, the hipster people are for sure.
You know,
the film,
the film fanatics are right.
But,
uh,
there's probably some,
uh,
some of a new generation that it's being his,
his work is being lost on.
So I'll say underrated,
underrated.
All right,
good.
Uh,
have you seen Tanner looking at the list of his movies?
I'm curious what you have seen.
We're going to,
I'm going to hijack this and turn it into a quick has Tanner seen it.
Yeah, a little segment within a segment.
Segment section.
Because I kind of want to do this too.
Okay.
Let's see.
Filmography.
I'm guessing not very many.
1952.
Going back to the 50s.
I don't think your numbers are the best here.
Fear and Desire. No. Me either. Killer'ss. I don't think your numbers are the best here. Fear and Desire.
No.
Me either.
Killer's Kiss.
No.
Me either.
The Killing.
No.
Me either.
Paths of Glory.
No.
That one is the first one on that list that the name means something to me.
Have you seen it?
No, I have not.
It's a war movie.
But it's just actually like clicks.
Yeah.
This is the first one that. Okay. Next one is. No, I have not. It's a, but it's just actually like clicks. Uh, yeah. Uh, this is the first one that,
okay.
Uh,
next one here,
1960 Spartacus.
Hmm.
Yeah.
I've seen Spartacus,
I guess.
I have not.
I guess I have.
Yeah,
I have not.
Uh,
Lolita.
No.
Dr.
Strangelove.
No,
me either.
Uh,
1968,
2001, a space odyssey. Yes. I have seen that that that's the first one on the list i've seen damn i didn't realize you had that many movies i don't know if those ones actually
dr strange love that yeah a lot of cred spartacus i think does lolita gets talked about um i think
in this day and age that movie's to have a much weirder.
Pretty sure.
Isn't that a movie about a guy that's trying to get like a teenager or something?
I don't know.
I'm curious how that one holds up in this day and age.
1971, A Clockwork Orange.
Have you seen it?
I haven't.
I have seen it.
I've also read the book, too.
So I kind of doubled up on that one.
Yeah, that counts as two then 1975 barry linden
have you seen that no the spy who loved me no i have not seen either one of those actually no
i don't know why that's on there oh uncredited lighting design he wasn't the director there okay
uh is that a james bond movie Yeah. Let's scratch that one.
That one doesn't count.
1980, The Shining.
I've never seen all of The Shining.
I've never seen The Shining.
That's too scary for me.
Yeah, I've never seen it.
Never seen it.
1987, Full Metal Jacket.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes, me too.
And last but not least 99 eyes wide shut
i've never seen it oh it's quite the movie i have yeah it's weird it's uh originally i believe the
movie came out with uh with an x rating because there was too much graphic sex in it so when you
do you know anything about the movie yeah i
do i know it through like family guy and stuff and i kind of get it pretty well that's why i had to
remind like really think have i seen this uh because i feel like i know the plot pretty darn
well and no i haven't actually seen it though and they go to this wild sex party this orgy is
essentially happening and if you look they had to cg do cgi people
standing in front of other people having sex to to bring the rating down if i remember that i mean
you can tell you can tell when you look at it that the people are cg that they're not actually there
in front of the people having sex i'm and i'm putting it makes sense to me that they had to
do that to get the movie to an R rating. Right.
Yeah, it's an odd movie.
I haven't seen a whole lot.
Yeah, I haven't seen very many either. I'd like to catch Barry Lyndon, Doctor Strangelove.
I mean, I should watch The Shining sometime,
but those would be the highlights on my list that I'd like to see there.
Yeah, The Shining's a little scary for me,
for my likings.
Keep me up at night.
Okay.
So Kubrick underrated,
overrated or underrated Android phones.
Um,
actually,
okay.
I do not have an Android phone.
I,
I do not have a desired on an app Android phone, but, and I not have an Android phone. I do not have a desired on an Android phone,
and I'm a big Apple fan.
But with that being said,
I'm not one of those people that thinks
that the competition should die and wither away
because it's what keeps them honest.
If Android didn't exist,
Apple wouldn't have to really do much at all.
People already give Apple crap for not doing enough,
which a lot of that is justified.
They should probably be doing more in some of their things.
But if you look around, a lot of the features Apple phones get every year
are features that Android phones have had for the last one, two, five years.
Just Apple has been waiting on the sidelines to put their polish on it
and hand in hopefully a
plus work but i do think android phones are still underrated don't have any desire to have one but
underrated actually i don't really the number the shift have you seen the numbers on this
no what is the what is in the u.s it's like what is the trend? Oh, Apple is just picking up more and more momentum.
More and more, okay.
Every year in the U.S.
And I'm sure worldwide they are a little bit too,
but I'm trying to find...
Risen steadily since 2012.
Yeah, what does this chart say?
This chart says that, when did they cross?
When did Apple pass them?
Would have been right around like 2020-ish, it looks like,
is when there was a reversal where Apple got more market share than them.
So right now, it's about 50-50.
According to this chart, Apple's at like 53% to Android at like 46%.
But if you look back 10 years ago, Apple was at like 29% to Android's 50%.
So yeah, it is shifting.
I would guess Apple is even over like, I would guess it was maybe like 65%.
Would have guessed Apple was even over, like, would have guessed it was maybe like 65%. Well, I mean, the thing is, is their phones are very expensive, you know, in comparison to a lot of other options that exist.
But, yeah.
The tech stuff on the phones doesn't matter as much to me because I'm never an early adopter on basically any of that.
I'm like way more in the middle of the bell curve.
So that's fine.
And so to that point,
I don't care about the stuff that Android gets a year or two before,
because I don't,
none of it.
I don't care about any of it basically.
Like,
and like if Apple comes out with it later and makes it really good,
maybe there's a chance I'll use it,
but I'm fine without it for the year because I'm not an early adopter
on basically anything tech.
But I always do think it's interesting every time,
like even in our Discord,
and I see it outside of that everywhere else too,
wherever someone talks about the new thing that Apple has,
someone always says,
and it's the point you already made,
like, oh, Android already does that.
Yep, and they usually do because there's, I mean's i mean there's what 50 phone manufacturers that can all make
an android phone so chances are one of them right it's not it's not that it's not all android phones
across the board do this hardware feature whatever it is i mean sometimes it is part of the android
operating system but when it comes to hardware usually there's all right there's a couple that
have managed to integrate this piece of hardware and Apple does it eventually. But the one thing I
think the biggest knock against Android, again, I've never owned an Android phone. But the thing
that I see come up as the most common complaint, and I think this is very valid, is that an Apple
phone is an investment in the way that you can get an Apple phone and you can get an iPhone and know that you
will be getting updates for that phone for more than likely five plus years. And it will probably
run relatively well for that five years too. Whereas you could spend a thousand dollars on
an Android flagship and a year or two years down the road, Samsung can just decide, yeah, we're
not going to release the newest version for this phone.
So you're just, all right,
my phone is now stuck
at whatever version
they decide to support
and you're just kind of screwed after that.
And then you do have the option to,
you can do your own install event
and all this stuff.
But it's like people don't want to do
that annoying techie stuff.
They want to open their phone.
It's like everything with a PC. Oh, they're like, oh, you can build a PC that's better than the Mac. You just do this and this and this. And it's like, yeah, but people don't want to do that annoying techie stuff. They want to open their phone. It's like everything with a PC.
Oh, you can build a PC that's better than a Mac.
You just do this and this and this and this.
Yeah, but people don't want to do that.
They just want to open it and have it work.
They don't want to be tinkering with their shit.
They just want it to be working.
So that's the knock it has against it.
Okay, this has been a real hot-button political issue
in the massonomics community.
Overrated or underrated anchorman oh overrated or underrated it's still it's still underrated right
right it it was memes before memes that's uh i am obviously an anchorman fan of course you know like
I am obviously an Anchorman fan, of course.
You know, like, I, in the true spirit of overrated, underrated, though,
I could arrive at an overrated conclusion possibly, though. I could see how someone could say it's overrated.
You know, depending on how you play the game.
But also, new comedies don't exist anymore.
So at that level, I think you've got to give comedies even more credit
when you await it for modern times.
I would say, you know, I had talked about, I watched Dumb and Dumber with my son and he really liked it.
He really, he enjoyed, he did enjoy it.
You know, like he was a little apprehensive at first because, because it's funny, you see a movie that was made in 1994 and that's like a 30 year old movie.
was made in 1994 and that's like a 30 year old movie yeah so when i was a kid in the 90s if someone was going to show me a 30 year old movie from 1964 i would have looked at it i'd have been
checked oh gross like this is ancient but when i and it just is the perspective but to me i'm like
well this doesn't look 30 years old now you know know what I mean? It looks old-ish. Also, when we were watching shows that were 30 years old, TV shows, there was a good chance they were in black and white, first of all.
Or even if it was color, it was like kind of garbage color.
Yep.
It looked rough.
The sound was kind of cheesy.
Also, acting in the 60s was more like theater-like.
You know, they'd overact because people don't even act in movies the way they did way back then you know right but that that was just a funny side note but
then we also later on we watched anchorman we didn't even finish it though because no he hadn't
seen it before and he did not like enjoy anchorman the way he enjoyed dumb and dumber and just looking at it through his lens i can kind of see
it i'm trying i don't know because why because man is so much more ridiculous um i don't know
and it is too if if i was to sit down in a room uh and watch anchorman with 10 uh members of the
discord crew that i know also love it i feel like we'd have a blast watching it.
Oh, yeah, for sure.
But I can see if you've never seen it before,
and I was just trying to picture it through his mind.
Like, Dumb and Dumber holds up really well.
Because it's telling an actual story.
Yeah, if you've never seen anchorman before and
like you don't get everything around it that we've been that like you and i have been around with it
for 20 years and like you just know all the lines and it just uh you know it has this this following
and everybody knows what's coming and stuff i could just see if you're seeing that now for the
first time i don't think it holds up as well as dumb and dumber does in my opinion but that being said that's not how i personally feel about it
i just i could see how someone see they're different they're different comedies though as
as dumb as dumb and dumber is it still is based around some central plot points that are somewhat
rooted in reality yeah where Anchorman is just in
no man's land as far as
in Will Ferrell
yeah it's just in Will Ferrell brain of
craziness
the cast of Anchorman is so good though
like when you watch that now
and you're like holy shit
like these people
what would they have to do to get these people all in one movie
right now like you couldn't do it could you get uh will ferrell uh uh paul rudd steve carell steve
carell even who's the guy like the the shitty channel news team that um yeah uh the wedding
crashers guy vince vaughn vince vaughn um well yeah vince vaughn's in it right well he's
in the second is he in the second one or is he in the first one he's the okay dorothy mantooth's
son uh see i can't i can't west mantooth west mantooth yeah west mantooth yeah right here
dorothy uh son uh well and what the whammy guy also david kochner yeah yeah yeah and christina
applegate she's a big name too yeah but like uh what's his name again ant-man now what's uh paul
rudd paul rudd is a huge star you know vince vaughn what became a a huge star michael um
steve carell became an enormous star and i mean they were somewhat
known at that point in time but not not like to the extent of what they are now yeah
but i just yeah it's just a crazy cast i don't know i could just see how it maybe
to some people's vision doesn't hold up as well but um no i mean i love it still but i could get
that a little bit on that one dumb and dumber no though i think it's just uh i just can't imagine
someone watching that and be like oh this sucks yeah i well that's what i i know i don't i'm not
sure if my dad's ever seen anchorman and if i had to pick that movie in my head i'd say yeah i'm not
sure he'd actually like this because it's too stupid
Dumb and Dumber is one of the favorite movies of all time
and it is really dumb
but it's not stupid in the way that a lot
of Will Ferrell movies are
right
if
like you're
watching a Will Ferrell movie you kind of have to
suspend all belief
for the rules of the world and people having common sense to how things work, I guess.
It's also weirder to watch it now if you think about that deeply because Will Ferrell movies eventually became less good.
Like it did become played out at a certain extent, but it was not at that point in time.
But he did have a stretch for a while though
that was oh wedding crashers
okay well
he was a pretty small part of that but I'm sorry I didn't
mean wedding crashers oh you're my
boy blue I'm just looking at
old school old school I'm sorry
anchor man step brothers
elf is still pretty damn good
Talladega Nights is hilarious
the other guys is good.
And those are all so stupid.
But they worked.
There is a handful of them there that were really good.
Blades of Glory.
I was never as big of a fan of Blades of Glory.
Semi-Pro.
Semi-Pro is good.
Semi-Pro is pretty funny.
Yeah.
I forget about a lot of these get hard get hard was kind of funny
i never really liked daddy's home that one get hard uh with kevin hart where oh i've never seen
that i can't remember if he has to go to prison so kevin hart's trying to teach him like if i see
that will ferrell's in a movie now i'm like i'm not gonna like that movie yeah yeah you know like to be honest i'm like yeah i'm sure that that's not i'm as a matter of fact i'm quite
sure it's probably not a good movie and nor will i even give it a chance um but at that point in
time that's not the what that wasn't the perception and that's not that was the stamp of this movie is going to be hilarious yes yes so you said uh underrated i did say underrated yes
yeah i think i would probably lean towards underrated still especially now that i find out
there's maybe a uh decent sect of people our age that haven't either haven't seen it or don't don't
enjoy it i would say underrated but uh hard to believe those people are out there that's
it is a shame there i love even the gifts on uh like in response there's so many that fit for
everything that just come from bankerman i know some people don't get any of them i don't believe
you that like and that thing like i don't believe you like people use that one all the time
that's from like the opening credits it's barely even it's not really in the movie it's like yeah
it's like him when it's like shoot it's it's like the literally like not even in the movie
and i know because i was maybe gonna pull that as like a a meme clip and i'm like oh this is
barely even a usable clip because it's such a a, so quick, not even in the movie.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Last one here with all the marbles overrated or underrated.
You have your druthers.
Don't forget overrated,
underrated Sam Sulik.
I think he's underrated still.
Maybe when he gets to two or 3 million subscribers and he totally sells out
and is putting late content.
But right now it
still feels like an underdog story doesn't it it kind of does it's just because it's just a dude
doing it with his his keeping it real yeah lifting with all the other kids at the college gym
yeah or going to planet fitness he's not in some crazy facility state-of-the-art stuff it's just
he's just a guy doing it like the rest of us
it kind of is an underdog story actually i think actually that was one of my thought processes for
why this is why this is good because it does feel a little more relatable that one he's i mean his
physique is insane and what he's doing is crazy but i think a lot of younger people relate to him
more because like oh he's my age he's
getting strong like that and he's just putting out regular when he's not at the gym he's just
the same as me he's just at home playing clash of clans making food hanging out with his roommates
whatever he does driving an old toyota he's just like all me and my college buddies and i think
that he has that going for him
where all these other guys like Brian Shaw,
nothing about Brian Shaw's life is relatable in any way.
You know?
No.
It's a whole different ballgame that Brian's got going on.
I do wonder, thinking about that,
that it will be inevitable that Sam Sulik
will be a victim of his own success at some point in time,
even if he doesn't dramatically change.
You know, if he just cashes in on enough, which who, why would, you know,
I would blame nobody on that.
Like at a certain point you cash in on that, like you're crazy not to.
But then like when you're not driving a Corolla that's breaking down and you're not.
Right.
Not saying that he's even like, he's not poor or whatever.
You know, he's just like, but like you just become less relatable at a certain point.
You know, after a certain amount of success, you're just not as relatable.
Well, it would be the first thing though.
Typically how it goes is if he starts showing signs of success outside of
just him doing what he's known for right now whether that's a new car or collaborations with
big names or whatever that is people will be excited for him because he's getting recognition
but then after a while it turns into the whole thing of usually after people get excited for
you then the waves turn and then they're, and then they don't like you anymore.
Right.
Right.

Probably not.
Those youthful ankles of his.
