Thanks for what you do with your podcasts and all the rest.
You're doing a great job.
I hope everybody keeps tuning in.
You get a lot of good info, a lot of insights,
understandings on how to get strong, how to stay strong,
how to use your strength.
You do a great job, dude.
You make things better than they are in real life, I think.
If you don't follow Massanomics, y'all do it.
Social media, website, everything.
Massanomics! and everything. Masonomics. Masonomics.
And I love DJ Cummerbund,
podcasting with Tommy and Tell One,
making memes about zins.
With the twins.
Oh, yeah. And those twins. memes about zins with the twins oh yeah and those two wins that that uh soundbite just got through clear as day there is no
you could you could hear that all right and the with the twins there it is
hey you know we got to talk about those twins.
That's right.
And those twins.
Welcome back, everyone.
This is episode 406 of the Mastodonomics Podcast.
We are the lifting podcast about twins.
This is recorded live from multiple corners of South Dakota,
the best Dakota that there is out of all the Dakotas.
My name is Tanner.
And my name is Tommy.
And I love football on TV, shots of Gina Lee hanging with my friends, and hit it, Tanner.
And with the twins.
There we go.
Sometimes I think it's, I wonder if they switch between sometimes it's with the twins and
sometimes it's and the twins.
And sometimes it's and those twins.
Yeah, there's different ones there. Yeah. You know you know it keeps it fresh they don't want to get repetitive
obviously who is gina lee it doesn't really matter because of the two we did you know who she was
before this no i didn't either i believe she was on baywatch oh okay you're thinking Pamela Anderson. She was definitely on Baywatch.
Gina Lee.
Yeah, Baywatch.
A lot of Baywatch pictures.
Makes sense.
I mean, it really fits the vibe of the commercials.
Have you ever watched an episode of Baywatch?
I'm not actually sure if I ever have.
Has Tommy seen it, Baywatch?
Ever one episode? I remember being a little kid and seeing it on TV,
but I definitely did not sit
and watch an entire episode so that's what makes you want to say never i've seen clips of it yeah
stuff too but like like i'm very aware culturally of what it is and and all of that but yeah i don't
i don't think i've ever actually seen an episode i guess i can't really justify watching a full
crappy crappy really bad show
just because there's like hot chicks in one piece swimsuits.
It's like, oh man, people, the internet exists now.
Yeah, maybe in 1992, I guess you just had to watch Baywatch.
Yeah, you take what you get.
I don't know exactly what you get out of that experience though still.
I know.
Red swimsuits.
Red one-piece swimsuits is what you get out of that experience.
Yeah.
We've got a banger of an episode this week.
We're bringing on DJ Cumberbund later.
Special guest this week.
That should be a lot of fun.
But first, I wanted to tell everyone to make sure to check out the strength co.
Did somebody say something about American made Olympic iron plates and barbells?
Well, I bet you did because I want to talk about the strength co and what a perfect segue
that would be if somebody said something about it.
So it works out perfectly.
Yes.
The strength co and big grant are back on their bullshit.
They've got the best made in America, Olympic barbell plates that are on the market.
And I'm not just saying that as part of a clever ad.
I do believe they are the best iron plates that money can buy.
And they're not even priced in such a way.
They're not even priced as if they're the best plates that money can buy.
Because they're reasonably priced.
So you can go out there for a very reasonable price, get yourself the best plates that exist. And they're great for
commercial gyms, powerlifting gyms, home gyms, garage gyms, basement gyms, gym gyms, shed gyms.
They're great for people named gym. They're not named Jim. Yeah. So check them out at thestrength.co.
Make sure to let them know that your good friends at Massanomics sent you
and let them know that you notice they're back on their same old bullshit
of making awesome plates again.
And never stop, I guess.
They're just always doing it.
Never, ever stop.
This episode is also brought to you by Swiss Link.
Since 1995, Swiss Link has been importing military-issued goods to the United States and into the hands of those yearning for quality
gear at uncompromised prices. Swiss Link carries all you can imagine from British tactical vests
to Italian Navy deck shoes and everything in between. Swiss Link is also home to the authentic
Wavian fuel cans. They're from the same factory that's been making these so-called jerry cans for the
NATO forces since 1940s. Made from a 0.9 millimeter cold rolled steel, Wavians are the highest quality
gas cans on the market. Big Mo, the big guy at Swiss Link, has decided that a quality water
can was needed as well. So Swiss Link developed a stainless steel water can to match.
It fits all your Wavian jerry can holders and is made from food grade 304 stainless steel.
So you can trust it to carry drinking water.
The cap is knurled for a good grip and the spout screws into the bottom of the cap for convenient storage.
A vent at the top ensures a good flow and the can has the same three handle configuration as its fuel counterpart.
This is another addition to SwissLink's exceptional collection and dedication to quality customer service enjoy a 15 discount on your next purchase at swisslink.com by entering
code mass at checkout that's m-a-s-s to save 15 at swisslink.com thank you swiss link i noticed
swiss link has these really cool all-aluminum storage boxes.
I think they come in a three-pack, and they almost look like chrome
because they're very polished aluminum,
and they fit kind of like Russian stacking dolls.
Oh, yeah.
They seem really high-end.
I don't know.
I would like those.
I don't know what I'd put in them for sure.
It seems like you'd have to put something in there really nice almost, you know,
to justify having those cases.
But they do look really cool, like really high-end storage containers.
Check those out.
That was just my caveat to the Swiss Link ad.
Tommy, some weather that you've been having at least.
Did you guys get any snow?
An inch or less, I guess.
Essentially, no.
I had to yesterday
evening, I did like
some people could have
blown it off with a
you could have blown it off, but I did a little shovel
just to scrape off of the
driveway, I guess.
Yeah, it was, I think.
You know, I could go from one end of my driveway all the way to the end across the three stalls
and, yeah, have like a scoop full from one side to the other.
Yeah, we got about a foot, and it was a lot of snow.
It was.
Luckily, it was the really light powdery stuff.
You know, it didn't have any weight to it at all.
So if you were shoveling of any kind, like weren't getting tired from from the weight of it but
luckily my father-in-law hooked me up with a big old beefy snowblower and that made life
significantly easier i mean there's no way i could have done it because we live on a corner
and so that means i get the sidewalk that goes all the way around the side of the house too
yeah and it is a long stretch on top of you know know, also having a three-story garage. There's a lot
of ground to cover there. So yeah, I got extra familiar with the snowblower this year.
Did you have a snowblower in Aberdeen?
Well, I had like a small, one of those little small like snow throwers.
A snow thrower, like a single stage.
Yes, that you can like just throw it around no problem yeah um but
yeah you get anything over a few inches in those or if it has any if it's heavy at all it just it
can't keep up but so that's what i would do there or my father-in-law had a skid steer so anything
we'd anytime we'd get a big storm he'd just show up with that we know we'd be done in two minutes
like when the plow goes by that snow thrower wasn't going to clear the uh god no no no way sometimes the snow
the enormous push snowblowers barely i mean it's they're basically that's the thing about snowblowers
like when it's deep and enough like yeah it's awesome it's so much better having a snowblower
you'd be screwed without it but it still like takes a little you know it takes some time like
it's not uh it's not fast yeah it's not a
guarantee it's not like you're doing nothing and besides that it's usually cold and shitty out too
so it's not pleasant to be outside and the wind is like always in the direction where you're blowing
i'm like how is it always coming back in my face you know um and you're always like trying to
manipulate where it's going because you can't throw it in the neighbor's yard and you're not
really supposed to throw it in the street yep and then you're also trying to not blow it right back into your own driveway
too.
So yeah,
there's this constant battle there,
but snow blowing,
I always think is fun.
The first time of the year.
Oh yeah.
I didn't have too bad.
It's usually not that terribly cold yet.
And then you're like,
yeah,
this is kind of fun.
Yeah.
And then by like the sixth time,
you're like,
I am so sick of this already.
I mean,
I don't know if that,
so you've probably had to blow it off a few times
then in the last couple of days.
Yeah, I've done,
I spent probably about an hour or so out there yesterday
and then about an hour again today
because it snowed more overnight
and then it also drifted in a little bit too.
So, and I didn't finish it all yesterday either.
But the other one I had,
you know, we moved a year ago
and in the process of moving some of the stuff, it was hitting me today that, oh yeah, like gas cans.
I'm like, I'm not going to worry about moving gas cans.
I remember I gave, I told my dad to take them.
So then it's like the snowblower runs out of gas today.
I'm like, oh, let me go, let me go grab the gas can and fill it up.
Oh yeah, I got rid of those.
So now you're making them.
You should have bought one from Swiss Lake.
I should have, but I needed it today, this moment.
So then I'm running to Menards in the morning to get a gas can,
filling it up with gas, driving back home.
And yeah, luckily there wasn't any emergencies
or I wasn't in any major rushes.
But just things like that add to the time-consumingness
of the entire debacle.
But yeah, happy to say it's done.
The plows, though though that's another thing
the plows got to come by and they've not been by our street yet so i'm very curious to see
they're gonna what what work i'm gonna have you've never had plows go by your house what after a snow
before so you don't i don't know what it's like even right before right before i came down here
i saw you know they had the big blades whatever those things are called again yeah uh they had
two of them i saw kind of enter and i could look down the block and i saw two of them
enter and turn on a different street road graders or road graders there you go so i know they're
going to be coming by soon uh the question is is what what type of chaos is it going to leave
because i think here they have the thing i forget what it's called but they i think like is it a
snow gate where it can when it gets to a driveway i think it can put something and it's it's called, but they, I think like, is it a snow gate where it can, when it gets to a driveway,
I think it can put something and it's, it's supposed to take it down.
Right.
It's a snow gate.
Yeah.
Whether they do it or how effective it is.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Like that's the snow gates are a,
I don't know if you're aware of this from an Indian Aberdeen,
but it's like controversial hot topic.
That's like some people demand that we get snow.
No, they don't.
I didn't think so.
But that's what some people think they should.
And then everyone's like, no're you know like there's always there's
two sides of that and i don't know what the right answer is but they don't use them in uh aberdeen
there's always people bitching about the snow removal though like that's the that's the classic
like i bet it's every city that's ever gotten snow it is and part of it is just so like i'm
watching and there's you know the news they're
having a press conference with people from the city talking about the decisions they made for
snow removal and i'm like really like this happens every single year multiple times a year why does
there need to be a press conference about why you decided to start this road at this time like
everyone knows it's just going to be shitty for like two days and it's quite the hot button issue
though as well well that's also lets you know that some people have a lot of free time on their hands because that's the biggest concern in their life is that yeah what
is or isn't happening with their snow removal so do you is there any more snow in the forecast
i don't think there is i think it's just going to cool off because i think we're finally going to
get some oh it's going to be cold below zero coming up it's actually been fairly cold as it
you know this week it's gotten
fairly cold but coming up here soon it's going to be like single digits and which we haven't really
seen much of that at all so uh yeah you guys can keep that snow down there though you made that
joke in the discord today of yes i said something about having a foot of snow and you guys oh
down there and i said haha
like you hear that so many times no lie an hour later i'm on a phone call with a guy yeah he was
on vacation in miami and he goes oh man when i get home i don't want to see you pushing that my way
like the exact same and i'm just like yeah that's that is the joke that that works every time. People love it. Yeah.
Yes.
I did see a bit of important Costco news.
Oh.
You know, the Costco chicken bake, of course,
a very special place in the massonomics community.
I picked one up a week ago.
Actually, I got to say. How was it?
It was great.
It was amazing.
I had it for the road.
You know, I enjoyed it on the way out.
Ate it in my car like a real savage.
the road you know i enjoyed it on the way out ate it in my car like a real savage yeah the the deal the deal at costco is and i was not aware of this got to give props to big jake when we were there
those those uh what is it protein shakes no those are what do they call oh those yeah is it pure
protein bars yeah that sounds right the last time i was in there normally those things okay first of
all a protein bar in a gas station is $3 to $4.
Everyone knows that.
They're insanely expensive.
So you get the 23-pack in Costco, and it's like $20 or something like that.
Big Matt said $20 for 24 of them.
Yes.
So slightly less than a dollar a piece.
Very good.
Last time I was in there, they were on sale for like $16 for the whole box.
You couldn't afford not to buy them. I actually thought about buying two, they were on sale for like $16 for the whole box.
You couldn't afford not to buy them.
I actually thought about buying two, but I'm like,
if I buy two, I'm just going to eat actually that many more of them, and I don't need to do that, so I got
one. You don't need your full meal plan
to just eat a few protein bars. I don't need to be eating two to three
of those a day. One, I feel like
is enough protein bars to be
consuming a day, but that is a deal
though. That is cheap for protein
bars.
They're almost giving them away damn near damn near oh the costco news though yes i forgot what
brought me to this so are you ready for this costco might be calling crumble cookies out
with a new giant double chocolate chunk cookie in the food court
new food court item for 249 oh how much does the crumble cookie cost somebody fact check that
probably like four ish yeah so for 249 a giant double chocolate chunk cookie these are rolling
out nationwide and are ginormous cookies at 750 calories. About the same as a crumbled
chocolate chip cookie.
They're made with all butter and a mix of
bittersweet and semi-sweet chocolate chunks.
Good news for cookie lovers
is bad news for churro lovers
though as Costco has removed the churro
from the food court to make way for
these new cookies. Can't imagine
anyone's going to be sad about the churro.
We've actually had the churro before.
I mean, I can see how people like it,
but that's just not very high on my list of enjoyable things.
I would pick the cookie all day over a churro.
Yeah.
For sure.
Yeah.
So are you going to try the new Costco double chunk chocolate cookie,
or are you just sad that churros are gone?
No, I'll try.
I'll try it for sure.
When I'm in there.
That's actually how this article ended.
So I just read the question.
I kind of assumed the way you're phrasing that,
that you weren't just asking me,
but yeah,
anything it's under five bucks.
I got to try that the next time it pairs,
you get your calories for the day,
a chicken bacon,
a churro,
you're set.
Yeah.
A crumble cookie could be
crumbling in the wake of this one those things are also popping up everywhere there's another one
another one there's two in town there's one not too far from my house i don't know shit about it
i've never been to one uh so i just want to give my hot take on it i'm and i don't know anything
about the business model but i'm assuming that's a store you can open with very little capital outlay,
that it doesn't cost jack shit relative to start it.
It's like starting a Subway.
I don't know what the cost is to start that franchise,
but I think Subway is...
I've seen a map of all the fast food chains
and how many there are nationwide,
and it's staggering how many more subways there are
than any other ones.
I could be wrong here,
but I think also what Subway does
is I believe their owners are super,
like the free market sorts itself out.
So they will let you put Subways anywhere.
Like you can put a Subway.
I'm going to open a Subway right next to your Subway.
And they can do that where I think a lot of other ones
have franchisee rules. I mean, it's so much fresher than you right yes it's like well yeah that's why
and then also they they got to be cheaper too that's why you see right them in a town and
that's was my point about crumble cookie though it's probably like uh for a fro yo i don't and
i don't know that but i'm just guessing yeah i would I would assume. Small square foot footprint.
The one.
Minimal equipment.
The one, I've only been in one of them here,
and it's the one by the mall.
So they're getting, I would assume,
rent is insanely high there, like in front of the mall.
Probably very expensive.
They also get tons of foot traffic in there too,
because that's where everyone goes when they come to town.
But the place was a little bigger. You know, they don't have to worry much about tables,
but the place was a little bigger inside than I would have guessed. And they had like 10 people But the place was a little bigger. You know, they don't have to worry much about tables, but the place was a little bigger inside
than I would have guessed.
And they had like 10 people working.
There was a lot.
So yeah, I don't know.
They're just making cookies, huh?
But also, God, their margins on cookies have to be insane.
A dozen cookies, what's that cost to make?
A dollar?
Well, that cookie that they sell for $4.50,
yeah, what do you think of one cookie costs?
Like tens of cents right it
has to be especially at the the rate they're buying stuff at it's got to be so cheap yeah
right so it's probably like 10 percent of uh their sale price if that okay that's our cookie
i really thought when you i saw cookies on the to-do list and it was i saw that on there i thought
i wonder what tanner could be talking about with cookies and then like a day later i read a thing that was saying how google was phasing
out cookies and i'm like oh that's really a tech forward of tanner to be concerned about google's
policy on cookies not so fast i just wanted to talk about cookie monster nom nom nom nom nom nom
that kind of a cookie monster sounds like the cookie monster cookie monster pretty solid sesame street character though i would say very iconic he's a
he's a cornerstone sesame street also though a lot of sesame street characters are pretty iconic
they really did a pretty good job with that for who do you think furry guys with big eyes on their
head they did that what do you who do you think is the Mount Rushmore of, who's your Mount Rushmore,
since we play the Mount Rushmore game now,
who's your Mount Rushmore of Sesame Street characters?
I can already think of mine.
Big Bird has to be on there.
Elmo has to be on there.
Big Bird is obviously on it.
Elmo and Big Bird are locked.
Nobody can not choose Elmo and Big Bird.
That's not even a debate.
So really it's just who are the two honorable mentions here.
Yeah, yeah.
And you can't say,
I don't think you can say Bert and Ernie
because you can't pick one of them and you'd have to pick both.
And I feel like that's using up too much to have both of them go on there.
So I don't think they belong.
Cookie Monster is pretty damn iconic.
And the Count is pretty iconic too.
I don't think Grover.
What about Oscar the Grouch?
Oscar the Grouch too, yeah.
I was going to say Grover the Blue One. I don't think Grover. What about Oscar the Grouch? Oscar the Grouch, too. Yeah. I was going to say, Grover the Blue one.
I don't think Grover belongs.
Grover is not on my Mount Rushmore.
I know that for sure.
I would put the Count, Oscar the Grouch, and Cookie Monster all ahead of Grover.
Yeah, I don't think the Count.
Grover's like a poor man's blue Elmo.
What does Grover bring to the table?
Blueness.
I think Oscar the Grouch and Cookie Monster I'd put ahead of the count, I think.
Ahead of the count.
I like the count a lot, though.
And I like Bert and Ernie.
Do you think Bert and Ernie are heterosexual or homosexual?
I don't know enough about their tendencies and their habits to really make a decision on that yet.
We don't watch a ton of Sesame Street here, so I'm not the most knowledgeable.
Yeah.
I mean, not that there's anything wrong with that.
I just figured out out of curiosity what their preferences are.
Yeah, I just wanted to get a feel for what people are into here.
Yeah.
So just to touch back on it, if we could agree, obviously Big Bird, obviously Elmo,
and then we're kind of saying Oscar the Grouch and Cookie Monster?
I think so.
I think so, too.
Yeah, I don't know.
I think you could make a case for Count, but I wouldn't put him on there.
He's almost like too much of a side segment.
I feel like you don't see him enough.
Bert and Ernie and Count are both side segments, really, to me.
Yeah, the bigger debate. Really good ones. They carry their weight. They do. see him enough. Bert and Ernie and count are both side segments really to me. Yeah.
Actually the bigger,
the really good ones,
they carry their weight.
You know,
they,
uh,
the bigger debate is who's probably is the biggest star.
Is it Bert?
Or sorry,
is it big bird?
Is it,
is it big bird or is it Elmo?
I mean,
his store,
if you go back far enough,
I think it's big bird.
See,
and then I think you're right.
So much ground,
like tickle me.
Elmo,
I think took Elmo to the next level.
In the late 90s, that's where he really came into his own.
Right.
He was a late bloomer.
It took him a few years, a couple decades to come around.
I bet Elmo has made more money for Sesame Street than Big Bird has.
But I think originally Big Bird was probably the central character, right?
I'm pretty sure.
I wonder if Big Bird is pissed.
Jealous.
Probably.
There's probably something.
He's probably plotting something against him.
That is a Big Bird.
There's one big-ass bird.
Yeah, the puppet.
Whoever's manning that puppet really knows what they're doing.
That one's probably just a guy in a suit, isn't it?
They have Shaq inside of that costume or what?
All of them are puppets though do you
think big bird is a puppet or is it a guy in a costume it's got to be a guy in a costume right
i guess i can't really picture what it actually looks like when he's on the
oh snuffle up i guess i assume big bird is a costume isn't it or is that a puppet i don't
know it's probably it's gotta be that's an enormous i'm sure if we actually watched it
you could figure it out in two seconds but i've never right
i just don't know what enough attention yeah yeah yeah snuffle up i guess i mean this gets his
just dues but he's definitely not a mount rushmore character what about the random people that lived
on the street that were real people yeah yeah just the extras you know yeah um all right that's good uh good good sesame street talk but i also
want to talk about supporting our supporting members tommy they got a kind of an exciting
one this week a lot of going into this so supporting our supporting members is a relatively
new segment of the podcast where we give back to those that give to us so we have these supporting
members which we appreciate the shit out of we're so stoked to have you guys uh and gals and
chocolate chips you know whatever the women the women supporting members have been dubbed as the
chocolate chips for everyone that doesn't get that reference speaking of cookies and our crumble
cookie this is the cookie reference yeah and the crumble cookie and the costco double chocolate chunk cookie the men are the cookie the dough the batter the dough the women are the chocolate chips
yeah and the women are the chocolate chips because they're fewer in numbers but
they're still but oh so maybe even more important yeah they're so they're semi-sweet at least
so we give back to all them each week well we give back to all of them each week.
Well, we give back to them in a number of ways.
Number one is you get access to our exclusive online Discord community.
That's the only way you get on there.
A group of super positive, like-minded people that are just having fun.
They're having fun and also talking real training stuff quite a bit, too.
So you can get in on that action by becoming a supporting member.
You get to know early information becoming a supporting member you get to
know uh early information about our drops you get to listen to the podcast live like we have a group
of supporting members doing right now get to do that each week um you get its exclusive discount
code that's only for supporting members that you can use on our site to buy our t-shirts
sweatshirts like tommy's wearing drink spotters any of that stuff and then uh each week we try
to give back to some of them.
That's what I'm going to do now.
But before I get into that, I do want to mention one more thing.
If you're a current supporting member, I think I mentioned this last week,
but please make sure to send us if you have any address updates.
If your address has changed since, you know, the last time.
If your address has changed since you've signed up to become a supporting member, if you think it has, make sure to let us know that if you haven't already
let us know that, because the reason we need to know that is we have a special mailing coming out.
We do this a couple of times a year where we send all the supporting members, something that's only
for supporting members. The only way to get it is if you're in the crew, uh, that comes at no
additional cost. It's just, uh, it's just part of's just part of the perk city that is this supporting
membership. So make sure to give us your new address because that's coming relatively soon
and there's going to be a line in the sand, not in the pea gravel. There's going to be a line in
the sand at some point in time where if you join after that, you don't get in on this free crew
gift. But if you join before the line in the sand, you will get in on it.
So please join soon if you're considering it.
If you've considered it for a while, the time is now.
That all being said, this week, I'd like to thank and, well, there's some thank yous
and there's some just yous and there's some just shout outs here. So first shout out to Big Keith and Big Chris.
The Rochester boys competed in a charity strongman event.
They both did great.
Big Keith completed all events even after downplay.
He sandbagged and was saying that he might not be able to do them all.
And then I think he smoked them all.
And then also his right-hand hand man there big chris competed i think he maybe won first in the novice class even so
uh he's not gonna be a novice for very much longer although he is competing at the lift
hard live easy strongman competition in the big but new category so he at least gets one more
novice competition in then big steen she lifted in her powerlifting meet,
and it looked like she did well.
I didn't get the official numbers,
although Big Spoon posted her squat that she got red lights on.
And I didn't fully understand still,
even with explanation why it is that that didn't get passed,
although I wasn't the judge.
My judgment is good lift.
Big Steen.
Mine as well.
And then I shout out to Big Tanner.
He picked up a barbell for another crew member.
It was for Big Mo.
Big Mo had a bar that he found for sale in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
And I picked it up for him.
This is a shout out to me.
It's in the back of my pickup right now.
I'm the big tanner. So shout out
to me for getting that for Big Mo. So I got to get that
to Big Mo at some point in time here.
He bought a used barbell that I picked up
the other day. So I just want to give myself a
formal pat on the back for that.
And then,
last ones but not least, we've got
Big Jeremiah. Crew member was my hookup on my first official pair of York deep dish, original paint plates.
Wow.
The most expensive they showed up today as a matter of fact.
So big Jeremiah crew member, he knew the person that was selling
the these and kind of we got to him before they went on the open market he he took a pair and i
took a pair and he gave me first choice on which pair i want wanted and i got the ones i got are
very uh original and in very great condition you know no cracks or anything like that they're
really an awesome set even as far as york deep dish plates go so where uh where do those go once they land
in the gym that is the question right because these are these are not slightly more expensive
than their plates of that i have at the gym these are far more expensive than any of the other plates
that are at the gym although Although I do not buy gym
equipment to not be used. I want to strictly stay on. I want to be on record for that. And also I
want to stay on that because I don't want to buy anything that I won't at least use a little bit
or be welcome to others using. But what I think I'm going to do is I'm going to put, uh, you know,
essentially, uh, you know, one of the pins the pins on our squat racks that hold plate storage.
I'm just going to mount one of those to a stud on a wall, a relatively short one,
you know, one that maybe has a short wall.
Yeah.
Well, a tall wall, regular size stud, but a short weight pin coming out,
mounted to the wall.
This is my rough,
rough idea so far.
The only idea that I've had yet is mount that on the wall,
put the two,
the two plates on that one pin.
And,
uh,
there,
so they're somewhat on display,
but then also,
also of course,
a sign,
uh,
right next to the plates that says,
Hey,
these are allowed to be used.
They're not allowed to be deadlifted with
or power cleaned with or dropped in any way.
Will they crack, though? Is that a thing?
They could.
We're made to be able to do that,
but they're also 52...
I'm not sure exactly how old, you know, they're old plates and, uh, you know,
they're not made the way that the, the machined strength co plates are now that we use, you know?
So I would say they're made, they were made to be able to do that, but it's just with their age
and also just their value. Uh, I couldn't take the,
I would not like the thought of them even getting marred beyond,
you know, I don't mind general wear of handling the plates,
but I don't want them getting chipped or cracked or some,
you know, someone held a deadlift at lockout and dropped it on those.
I would be mad.
It is really funny. I typed in or york retro deep dish plates and i went
to google images just to really wrap my head around what these look like i thought i knew and
yeah i see it here um but it's funny in the second row i'm like oh that's an orange gym
and i click on some pictures it's a post on reddit
um the other shout out and our guest has just arrived too so oh okay well i'll finish this up It's Keith's gym. It's Keith's gym. It's a post on Reddit.
The other shout-out.
And our guest has just arrived, too.
Oh, okay.
Well, I'll finish this up quick, and then should we get him on?
Yep.
Maybe you want to kick people out while I say this,
but Big Michael has hooked me up.
It hasn't arrived yet, but this plays into our prediction game.
Got a new barbell on the way already a new old barbell i mentioned i was
missing one barbell in the texas power bar history of barbells he found this one for me it's actually
the one i tried to get to buy and the guy wouldn't ship it to me yeah so this guy found it on facebook
marketplace and said i live like an hour from this guy. I will go get it, buy it for you and
ship it to you. So he has the barbell now I've we've paid, I've paid for the barbell. He has it.
He's just getting a tube and we'll be shipping that to me. So, uh, that will complete the,
really the pre and then one, two, three, four, five, I would say my six, my six barbell timeline
of Texas power bars will be complete now
that or it kind of is i just don't have it yet that is awesome i so that'll probably be a video
video coming soon right yeah yeah for sure yes all right well our guest is here should i let him in let's let the old son of a gun in here all right we've got uh the man
the myth the legend the mashup mashup messiah big dj cummerbund is in the house how's it going
what's going on guys i'm happy to be here thank you so much for your invitation we're excited to
get you on we're pumped we uh we've got a lot of questions we want to talk to you about, a couple, maybe a fun game or two that we want to play with you.
But first, you know, so we talk to a lot of people
in the lifting space on our podcast,
sometimes things that are just on the fringes of that,
anything that's somewhat relevant, and we like to have fun.
And over the years, we've listened to a lot of your
stuff and it's particularly, it's relevance to us is, you know, you take a lot of this music that
is so typical, so typically like these gym anthems that a lot of people listen to that we talk about,
we have fun with, you know, some are, some are ironically funny, some are just fun and this
huge variety,
and you take them and you take them to the next level.
So we feel like you're dealing on a space that's, like, right next to us in that way.
Well, I appreciate that.
I just try and take, you know, something that doesn't quite belong here
and make it something that fits perfect, you know what I mean?
So what would your explanation, you know, you're,
if you ran into someone,
someone on an elevator would be the thing people say. And, uh, they, they,
you said, yeah, I'm DJ Cumberbund. And they'd say, well, what do you do?
And how, how would you explain that? What it is you do?
I would smack them in the face and say, if you don't know who I am, get out.
No, I'm just kidding. You can't afford it. Yeah.
I can't afford it. Um, to be honest with you, you know, when people ask me what I do, you know, I kind of just tell them I'm a mashup DJ.
I kind of take things that don't belong together and make a completely new song out of it and stuff, you know, completely separate genres that should not go together at all.
And I make it something beautiful or at least I do
anyway. No, I think you, I think you totally do that. And we, I'm trying to think back Tanner,
your, your origin story is probably pretty similar to mine. I think the first time I heard any of
your songs was probably about 2020. And it seemed like we get to this point where be drinking beer with my brother,
we'd be hanging around and eventually you start, you know, you got the music playing, whatever.
And eventually YouTube comes up and you're like hearing a song. It's in the background. You're
not paying attention. And it's like, oh, it's familiar. And then it's all of a sudden, like,
you're kind of doing a double take, like, wait, something's not right here and the song he would always play it always be shakula and uh earth wind and aussies and those two all the time he'd love to play those
and we just like we just knew at a certain point we're going to hear those songs and we thought
it was hilarious every single time but the moment the moment where it really struck us tanner you
were there that night yeah this is we he was having a fairly small party. We had, I don't know, maybe 10, 15 guys there and we're, we're at his house. And like always,
Shakula, Earth, Wind and Aussies come on, you know, we're going through some of the other songs,
the next sickness comes on. And then what really, what really just caught us totally off guard was
Pants Feet. And it's like, you know, when you're like with your buddies and you're kind of like
giddy and giggly and like, everything's making you you laugh and you know, we're, we're laughing at all
the songs and like Pants Feet comes on. I'm like, Oh funny. He's, he's doing a Nickelback one.
And like it kept going and going. And like my friend Brian was there and I thought you broke
something in his brain because he was like having a breakdown. He couldn't stop laughing at Pants
Feet. And by the time it was done, like like we were laughing so hard we didn't know what just happened to us it was a magical moment it that Pants Feed took a lot of time and
I consider one of my masterpieces um I just I remember putting it together and I'm going this
is so stupid why am I doing this I'm spending so much time and it just came together so nicely and it was funny because i think it was
maybe a month a month month and a half after it came out i was listening to um
um some interview um some music interview i forget who it was but chad kroger was on
and he mentioned it and he's like somebody took so much time to put this
together and he's like you can say all the hate you want about nickelback but for somebody to
take the time out and do this this is amazing and i just from then on and i was like this is where
i'm going this is my purpose i i can't even uh think of pants feet like not even, not even listen to it, but just even think about it
and not have a smile come to my face.
Well, did you ever hear the sequel?
I don't think I have.
I don't think I have.
No.
Gentlemen, gentlemen, do your homework.
No, just kidding.
Yeah, I made a sequel called Freckle Feet.
Oh, damn.
Okay, I got to look into that one.
You got to look that up.
Okay.
Oh, okay.
I got to look into that one. You got to look that up.
Okay.
So talking about where people are maybe getting a flavor for the kind of thing that you're doing here,
but could you give us any insight into the process of how you do this
or maybe where some of your inspiration comes from either of those things
so i grew up listening to like all genres of music you know my grandfather was italian music
um my dad was rat pack and and prog rock like yes and stuff like that and my mother was country you know pop all that kind of stuff so really with that and then over time like my
brain started to like i used to get headaches and stuff and couldn't figure out why or anything like
that and then when i started doing this the headache seemed to subside now i know that sounds weird but it was like an outlet for my brain like overloading and it just
seemed to come together um the correlation between i guess i don't know if you call it
brain damage or anything like that um and having an outlet and that this is my outlet and this is what I do.
Oh yeah.
As far as the process goes.
Right.
The process is kind of just, there's two different processes.
One is kind of just sitting and sitting like in the middle of a forest and just listening and just, you know, processing my own thoughts. And then the other side of it is when I have lists of different keys and music,
um, you know, what's in what key and, you know, time signatures and BPM, all that kind of stuff.
And it, it, cause when something falls apart and it just won't go
together the way i wanted to it just drives me insane um and i i actually have like um you know
one of my best friends who's on my team and stuff and he kind of like comes into the room if i've
been in there for six hours seven hours and he's like you got to stop you got to jump on to the next one if it's not working the
way you wanted to and he kind of centers me out so and so correct me if i'm wrong here but when
you listen to these especially if you don't know how it goes at all the the uninformed or uneducated
person might just say well like oh yeah he just takes this these these vocals and he just drops
it on this beat from this song, and the song's done.
But there's way more to it than that, right?
I wish it was like that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Actually, I'll be honest.
Well, if it was like that, it wouldn't be cool.
It wouldn't be unique, and it wouldn't be what it is.
But I think some people could think that because it seems so effortless.
Like when you listen to it, it just sounds so good,
and it's like, well, it works because these songs naturally go together.
But that's not really the case. Well, thank thank you because that speaks volumes on what i could do yeah um but to be honest with you actually earth wind and nazis came together that way it was almost
um laying one on top of the other and just moving stuff ever so slightly you know and that came
together like that um but most things it's it's even though
it's in the same key it's not in the same bpm so you're slowing things down speeding things up
ripping things out putting in custom vocals um and and trying to get
trying to get gold out of silver you know what i mean so it's it's not that easy to do and yes it
does take time like i've had certain ones that have taken me a month two months to complete and
then i've had ones that have only taken me two hours yeah you know that's kind of the creative
process right it's sometimes it's just the. You catch lightning in a bottle and other times you got to really work for it.
Exactly right.
Exactly.
Are you, are you about in your,
are you somewhere in your thirties age-wise?
I just wonder because a lot of the stuff culturally
that you, that you use is just seems like so relevant
to, cause I'm, I'm just about 37.
Tommy, what are you?
35.
34.
And it just, you know, just, I i can't even describe it's just all the
nuanced stuff that just seems so uh relevant to people of maybe about our age i don't know
i'm only 17
you're 100 right i'm definitely i'm in my 30s oh yeah and like i said i've been listening to
all genres of music all throughout the late 80s early early 90s, late 80s through the 90s, early 2000s.
I try and stay as relevant as possible.
If something's like really taking off, I'm like, all right, I got to work with this song some which way, because that's what pretty much all influencers do.
They try and stay relevant to hit on the most, you know, pop culture topic at the time.
But, you know, then i have the times that
i'm just like i don't care i'm gonna put this out and see what happens uh maybe coincidentally or i
don't know what you call it but there's a great resurgence right now almost of what you're dealing
in anyways you know like late 90s early 2000s, that whole genre, everything from that era seems like it's really catching another wave here.
Oh, you want to know why?
Because today's music kind of sucks.
I mean, we can all agree on that.
Come on.
We have a classic take that we all use.
We dove deep into this one time where
any genre and you're you're very into a lot of different genres so maybe it'd be funny your take
on this but anyone that's not into a certain genre of music the classic statement that whether it's
someone that doesn't like country country music or someone that doesn't like uh r&b music or
someone that doesn't like uh butt rock or whatever it is,
you say,
whatever it is,
anything you can apply it to anything.
Someone that doesn't like those says it all sounds the same to me.
That's a universal statement that people will apply to any genre that they
don't like.
They'll say,
eh,
it kind of all sounds the same to me.
That is,
uh,
just,
I didn't know.
No question.
There's just anecdotal.
Yeah.
No, you're 100% right.
When somebody doesn't like something,
especially when you have the parents that are our age
and stuff like that listening to, their kids are listening to,
you're like, well, why does this all sound like mashed potatoes
being thrown at the floor?
Yes.
What's hard?
Because I don't know if you do everything in music video form or not,
but you certainly do do music videos too.
So what's actually harder to mash up, the audio or the video?
Because the videos are, you know,
what I would say if someone listened to this.
Some of the videos have a lot going on too.
Like they're offering another level to the song.
You need to actually watch the videos on some of these too to really appreciate it and be like, wow, how, like the audio is pretty seamless, but like, how does the video look like that when I'm watching this?
Well, to be honest, the audio is what takes the more time.
Okay.
And then once you have the audio, you kind of, at least for me, when I'm putting together a song, like I'll have the videos playing.
So that way, when I splice in a certain spot, right, I'll know where I want to pull the piece of the timestamp of the video.
So the video, most of the time time doesn't take as long. Okay. But like even Pants Feet, okay, I got to admit,
I don't have the entire Nickelback music video history down.
But like that one, were you pulling live concert footage too?
Or was that like part of the music video for those songs?
No, there was live concert.
Okay.
So you're like pulling from multiple sources on some of these ones too then.
Gotcha.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah, you have to you have to you have
to you can't if you did it with just music videos like just the official videos for each song it
would be boring right you have to throw other stuff in there you know like um like when when
i was in a we'll say not depressive, but like I was a little down on where everything was going and stuff.
And I made the sound of Smash Mouth.
And I literally pulled every sad scene I could think of to throw in that music video.
Like Gandalf, Mufasa, threw it all in there.
Yeah.
That is a good one too.
So we can,
you can look on YouTube,
you know,
we can go to,
well,
you're in an interesting space because your songs can't really be on
Spotify.
Correct.
Like you can't really publish them.
Yeah.
So you can't really publish them on the bigger platform.
I guess I should say maybe the more traditional music only platforms,
but you have a huge presence on YouTube and like,
we can go on there and look at most popular and, you know, by plays your most popular one is the next sickness with 6.6 million
views uh if we look at your top three earth win and aussies you're at 5.1 million play that funky
music ramstein is at 4.7 million shackula's i want a webby for that yeah so yeah and we're
gonna get to that too but like shackula's at 3.3 million. So we can see those there.
I know you've gotten a ton of plays on TikTok and stuff like that.
Is that kind of how the plays also work on there?
Or do you have other ones that have gained more traction on different platforms?
Well, I mean, Earth, Wind & Ozzy started before the TikTok platform.
So that came out before it.
And it got a lot of plays like it even went on to um it was an entrance theme for uh a morning news show i think at one point yeah and then um i can't even
hear september anymore without hearing all the boards like i can't um and then but now i would say the the views are mainly driven from tiktok you put a little
snippet on tiktok and then you know sometimes sometimes i don't even do a full version i'll
just like the tiktok is enough yeah you just need the clip to right and now that youtube has the
shorts i'm like okay i'll just upload both and, uh, but when I do do a full video, um, and a full version, you know, I'll put that on creative outlet. Ours tends to be more memes and
merchandise, but we always talk about there's the ones that you're making and you're like,
this is it. This is it. I know this is going to be the one. And you put it out there and it just
falls flat on its face. Do you have any good examples of that where you thought like, this
is a home run, this is the next big thing and then it just it doesn't go anywhere oh there there are quite a few there are quite a few that i'm
like this is great this is a fantastic version i love putting this together this is definitely
it's coming together perfectly with timing and everything like that this is going to be great
and then the ones that i'm like this is so stupid this is dumb like i don't i don't like this one at
all and i'm going to publish it anyway and see what happens those are the ones that takes off
like to be honest with you the next sickness i liked it but i wasn't a fan of it and i might
have not have been a fan because of how easily it got put together um because that did come
together fairly easily there was a slight tweaking but I wasn't a huge fan of it.
And it took off.
It took off.
And I was angry at that.
Do you have a favorite creation of all time, like a personal favorite?
Two.
What's it called?
Like someone's magnum opus?
Or maybe we could even say. Magnum opus. Maybe we could even say.
I haven't graded my magnum opus yet.
Or maybe you're Mount Rushmore of songs.
Like what are your top four?
Yeah.
I only got two presidents up there right now.
One is Jerry Luce.
I love that one.
I don't know why.
Oh, actually, I'll give you three.
Jerry Luce, Freak Tender and um and i gotta go with pants
feet i love pants yeah excellent choice yeah yeah pants feet i was rooting for pants feet
uh what about um we don't have to get into the weeds on this or talk about it more than you do
or don't want to but i really i don't i talk about it more than you do or don't want to, but I really, I don't,
I'm curious how it does work.
So like on YouTube,
can you monetize all that,
all those videos or not?
You can't monetize any of them.
So you have a lot of views to your name with no,
damn.
Oh,
that's kind of directly.
You can't,
you can't directly monetize them through YouTube.
I am,
um,
you know,
a little insider information that I'll exclusive announcement kind of on
your show is I am coming out with some original stuff soon. Um, not music wise, I'm coming out with
an original YouTube show soon that I'm hoping, I'm hoping to do something with, um, I'm hoping
it goes somewhere, but yeah, as far as the copyrights and everything goes, guys, I like,
but yeah as far as the copyrights and everything goes guys i like i can't do much with it so um i have gotten one cease and desist thankfully enough just one um and that one
is deep on the internet somewhere are you allowed to say who it was or what it was
um i'm just gonna say it was one of the members of the devil whopped down to georgia okay okay i
will not say which one but it was one of them may he rest in peace um so with that um i forgot where
i was going with this um the copyrights and oh yeah so with the copyright and everything it's
just it's it's very illegal and very hard for me to do.
So, and it,
which is silly because you have artists nowadays that see the value in this.
Oh yeah. Right.
In companies now, don't get me wrong. I'm working with record labels.
I'm working with publishing companies and stuff like that. They're, you know,
they're kind enough to reach out to me and say, Hey, you know, we know you,
let's do this together um but
with that the artists are starting to put out their instrumentals their studio acapella tracks
and stuff like that so they see the value in it they just don't want to take away the copyright
well and you're doing what all these i mean you're like throwing them a bone here like all of them
are trying to make their songs go viral on t TOK and you're literally pushing their songs to go viral on
Tik TOK. I mean, granted it's, it's a slightly chopped and screwed version of it, but still
like they're hearing their riffs and their vocals and stuff are getting out there in ways that never
would have before. Well, I gotta be honest. That's how the relationship between me and the B 52s
kicked off. You know, I released Shreksicula and they heard
it. They loved it. They loved the promotional aspect of it. We started talking, we kept in
touch and then they were like, Hey, let's, let's try and put a version on Spotify. And I said,
okay. So obviously their camp said, said no problem use whatever you need of ours
we had to get permission from britney spears's camp we got that unfortunately the version on
spotify is a little different than the one on youtube because uh mr zombie said no or at least
his camp did i can't say if he did or not rob um oh rob um so the b-52 guy uh when you talk to him is he does he talk like
that is he like all right dj cummerbund we're about to set sail so here we go guys i i absolutely
love fred he is one of the kindest people i've ever met in my life and yes he's got a magic voice whether
you're talking to him or he's singing um so so with that um we got we got permission from the
two i had to modify everything like that and we got it on spotify and i'm hoping
obviously it hasn't been that quick but but I'm hoping other artist management and other production houses,
I'm not production houses,
publishing houses catch onto that and say, okay, well,
he's not asking for a big percentage of this because it's not really his,
but it's still getting views.
It's still getting plays and streams and keeping everything relevant.
You know, love shack is actually turning 35 this year.
So I'm so happy to work with them.
They're, like I said, the kindest people in the world.
And I'll be hitting the stage with them again in April.
Yeah, so when was the first time
you got to go on stage with them?
First time I got to go on stage with them
was August, last August in Seattle.
And was that pretty surreal, actually?
It was unbelievable. And like that pretty surreal? Actually, it was unbelievable. The,
and, and like, let's be serious. I've played a couple of small club gigs. Not a lot. That was
my first time ever on a big stage. You know what I mean? And it was at McCall hall, which is right
across the street from the climate pledge arena. Um, so it's a fairly big hall and the crowd was electric.
And, you know, as soon as I got off stage,
you know, the artist management, Wayne, he's great,
came up to me, shook my hand and said,
welcome to the tour.
And then a month later, we're hitting Boston, DC,
Connecticut and going all around the country. And it's just been an amazing experience. and then a month later we're hitting Boston, D.C., Connecticut,
and going all around the country, and it's just been an amazing experience.
Yeah, that's really cool.
That is cool.
Is there any artists that you're kind of itching to use in a matchup
that you haven't yet for any reason?
Anyone that's really on your radar,
they're like, I'd love to get my hands on
that but i just haven't done it yet surprisingly um and this has kind of come out of left field
selena i've been for some reason just been like on a little kick with her and i'm like i think i
can use her and uh there's a few things i'm working on that i'm really hoping knock on wood
come together pretty well she is uh she is one person for being uh having some worldwide appeal
i just know so little about her music i've i've never really listened to it so
you can be my introduction to it yeah yeah that'd be a good start i suppose
yeah she put on she put out some amazing pop hits that that resonated with people whether they
weren't spanish or american it really didn't matter she just had that charisma about her
and um i've always wanted to use her music because whether it be the instrumental or
or the uh vocals i've always wanted to use her music and uh finally i think it's finally coming
together hopefully we'll see i was just thinking about this we saw it with steamboat willie here
this recently this last month where that that came up what's the what is what's the rule on
music intellectual property what's the timeline before something becomes uh you know public use
do you know what the rules are on that?
I don't.
Okay, yeah. I just wondered, is, like, does Elvis' or the Beatles' stuff,
like, at a certain point, does it get old enough that, you know, people...
No, because it was bought up by a publishing house.
Okay.
So I think, because when Michael Jackson bought it,
he bought it, what was it, the late late 80s early 90s i think and then when he
it was funny because he was told to buy publishing rights by paul mccartney so that started the
little feud about them too about they were in the studio making that song together i think it was
called yeah yeah yeah or crack i
cry i forget what it was um and paul mccartney gave him advice and said if you really want
nice residuals he's like buy publishing rights to music like that's how yeah because wasn't it like
wasn't it like apple publishing or something that had all the beatles right yeah that's right okay
and then he bought it from them when they went up for sale.
And then Paul McCartney just bought them back when he passed away in 2001.
So I'm not sure like how that would work. Interesting. I mean, 2001,
when did he pass away? Yeah. Something like, yeah, nine or 10.
So yeah, somewhere in there. Yeah.
When on your mashups, you know, you're using a lot of, uh, you know, you're, you're,
you're, you're, you're taking a lot of pieces, but there's also pieces in there that it seems like
it's original, you know, that it doesn't, you're, you weren't able to pull it from something. So
what do you play multiple instruments yourself or new vocals yourself? And how's that part of it work yeah so um when i can't get a clean version
or i need to tweak something so it fits right yeah i will develop it and play it myself or um
or if i have to hit high notes and something um i have a couple people who i tag in and say hey i
need you to sing and stuff like that. And
I'll create custom vocals. Sometimes I have had the pleasure of getting the artists to do it
themselves. Oh, damn. That's, that's the connection right there. So, okay. So like what, what
instruments do you know how to play then? Um, the keyboard, I know how to play the keyboard i know how to play the guitar drums um
a synthesizer a theremin theremins are fun yeah um so weird how does how does one go about learning
the theremin what's the i just started playing with it my buddy had one and i was like i'm gonna take this for a little while and he's like i use that i'm like no i'm gonna take this um and yeah i just started i just
started playing with the frequencies and the hands and where you gotta move them and um i
used a piece of corn once um that was an ode to uh an old high school band that i used to watch corn vomit no
um called clown vomit he there was a guy on stage he was dressed as a i think a pikachu or he was
either in a pikachu or in a dress sometimes and he used to take a piece of corn and just do that
to the frequencies and stuff and i was just like i, I'm going to do this. So, so yeah, it was,
it's the theremin was fun to play with. Yeah. You mentioned, uh, I don't know if you're,
you're actually there or not, but you mentioned to me at one point in time that you could
be potentially recording this from your, uh, sensei's dojo. Are you in the dojo right now or
not? I am. He's okay. here okay i'm down all right i was
gonna go in his garage and like where i actually do stuff and perform but it is crazy rain and
wind out here um so yeah it did not sound well so is it do you do taekwondo then and okay and then uh what about oh go ahead that's a strong word um taekwondo so he he got sued
for practicing without a license or whatever it was so he calls it the taekwondo police or what
i don't know what he does but anyway he teaches me nice it keeps me in shape a little bit and um and yeah so he's calling it taekwondo so
kind of an offshoot okay we'll say it's a mash-up yeah yeah there you go it's a mash-up
what about uh just general gyms you know we talk about gym stuff quite a bit do you ever spend much
do you ever have much of a gym background in your uh in your in your life i used to yeah i used to um i used
to go to the gym seven days a week uh and then i hurt my back pretty bad what did you like to
listen to when you would go it honestly all depended on my mood there were times that i
used to do like um you know the 5k on the elliptical type deal yeah i used to do that listening to frank
sinatra okay um and then if i was weightlifting i would listen to like corn slipknot um pat benatar
a classic rock hit me with your best shot exactly you know so it'd be it'd be a whole plethora of, uh, things on my playlist.
Okay.
All right. Good.
Good.
That's fair.
All right,
Tommy,
I've got,
uh,
we've got over,
over under,
is there anything else we want to hit up before we,
um,
I guess I got a couple of random questions.
Yeah,
you get that since we'll talk,
you do play the nostalgia thing a little bit.
You know,
we're talking,
we're hitting on the,
the late nineties,
early two thousands.
We had a thing,
uh, musically, there's a commercial that's been really, uh, have our attention lately. a little bit you know we're talking we're hitting on the the late 90s early 2000s we had a thing uh
musically there's a commercial that's been really uh have our attention lately do you remember
the Coors Light commercial that uh that uh referred to the twins do you remember that one at all
referred to the twins it was you know it was, I love football on TV.
Yes.
Shots of Gene and Lee.
Yes.
And the twins.
Twins.
Yeah.
We've been talking about that for like a month straight now.
We just can't get out of our head and out of our minds.
And I don't know.
And we just love it.
Yeah, I'm not really sure why it came up.
And we were just kind of reminiscing about it.
We hadn't even seen it.
And then when I pulled up the clip on YouTube,
um,
man,
I go pretty hard.
Like that's got the,
that's got the,
the early two thousands punk vibe going for it.
It's kind of a miracle that commercial,
maybe something for you to look into there.
I mean,
think about it.
All,
all TV theme songs,
commercials,
all that kind of stuff went so much harder back then.
Okay.
Look at duck tails,
power Rangers,
gargoyles.les oh like they all have
hard theme songs that drove it home nowadays you skip intro you do yep yep you see you see it once
you're like okay not not messing uh not wasting my time on this one again exactly so okay that
was one uh one other question i was going to ask you. You know, mashing up pop culture and music and all that.
Historically, a place that really did that well, I thought, was movie soundtracks.
And that has become a dying art or something that doesn't exist anymore.
Was there ever any movie soundtracks or anything that really stuck out to you?
And that could have been an original score for the movie.
Or it could have been the American Pie thing
where they brought in all these pop punk bands
to just play songs.
Was there any movie soundtracks
that ever stuck out to you through the years?
Well, not only Duel of Fates,
because Duel of Fates you have to love.
That was from the Phantom Menace,
you know, Star Wars Phantom Menace.
Right, yes, yep, sure.
That crazy one. That's like still popular today um but i mean there's the weird out classic uhf that soundtrack was dope
um how about how about flash flash gordon um it's entirely queen was it really okay all original music for that soundtrack that was um
so i don't know if this well this is technically not a movie soundtrack
but it was a soundtrack to a live show and that's the uh ninja turtles coming out of your shell tour
excellent we've got a ninjatles question coming up soon.
So that's a,
couldn't be,
couldn't be better reference.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't,
I don't think anything,
anything like I obviously there are songs here and there from movies that,
you know,
you love they're iconic.
Um,
like the,
um,
um,
Oh my God.
The scene from Top Gun.
Oh,
with the Isley brothers.
Yeah.
Um,
Oh my God.
Lost that love and feeling.
Oh yeah.
Right.
I didn't know that song until i saw that movie
right right true yes i mean there there are sprinkles of definitely songs from movies that
become iconic but as far as whole soundtracks goes i think yeah those are the few okay okay
okay all right now tommy do you think over under now take it away okay so we've got the special
game we play with every guest we have on the podcast.
It's called Overrated and Underrated.
You can probably guess what it's mostly like,
but the most important parts you have to remember here,
we've got a special set of DJ Cumberbund topics that are handpicked for you,
all for a reason, and it's just your job to decide if each one is overrated or underrated.
You can elaborate on that as much or as little as you'd like to.
But the most important part is you can't ride the line.
You have to take a hard stance one way or another, even if you don't want to.
Get political on me.
And they're all super political and controversial, of course.
Perfect.
Yeah.
Okay, so first one, overrated or underrated MTV Music Awards?
Underrated because I have one.
Yes.
I have one and I want to make the most of it.
So underrated.
People need to contact me more because I'm a BMA winner.
So what did you win for?
Shack Sigula.
Okay. Yeah. i'm a bma winner yeah so how what did you win for shak sigula okay yeah when we finally got the camps to agree to everything uh and i was able to put it on spotify that kind of legitimized it
yeah and then it was funny because i remember getting the email from mtv saying you know hey
you've been nominated for an m uh bma i'm like you know i thought it was a joke i was like get
the fuck out oh excuse me am i left yeah that's fine you can swear on this all right i don't
normally do that but uh you know i was like just really excited about your mtv music award
so um so i remember just going um i didn't vet you who who vetted you right to this mtv guy and he's like yeah
no we're serious i'm like all right um and then he sent me like the whole article and stuff and
i was like oh my god uh this is legit yeah um so yeah it just so was that to notify you that
you'd been nominated for one or that okay yeah and what was the category it was called um
best audio mashup okay right um and then they took away that category the next year so i'm legit the
only winner of bma for best audio mashup one and only so you got a rare one the coolest part of
all that was i got a a um message almost i think two days later a day or two later from trey cool he's the
drummer from green day yep oh yeah welcome to the moon man club and he even sent me a congratulations
package really so was he just i mean was he involved with them or he was just a fan watching
and he's been a huge apparently he's been a huge fan for years and it was cool because it was amazing because i didn't even know and then he came to see the show
in anaheim at the at the honda center um and we we did the show and i see him backstage and he
didn't even shake my hand he gave me a huge hug he's like, it's so cool to meet you.
He's like, when I heard you were the opener, we rushed over from dinner, him and his wife, Sarah.
She's a beautiful person.
And just, yeah, we've kept in touch ever since.
He's such a great guy.
What's the best Green Day album?
I mean, we all know what it is.
It's Duke.
Okay.
I assumed you'd say that. I don't know. Sometimes people have. we all know what it is. It's Duke. Okay. I assumed you'd say that.
I don't know.
Sometimes people have,
we all know.
I mean,
anybody that says American idiot,
you're like,
you just discovered them.
Yeah.
Which is funny.
Cause it's like,
well,
cause I think the same thing,
like,
Oh,
you just discovered them.
And I had to look American idiot,
2004.
It's like,
Oh,
that was 20 years ago.
Yeah.
Don't say that.
Yeah.
Okay.
Overrated or underrated?
Cummerbunds.
That's a tough one.
That's a tough one.
You know what?
Little trade secret.
I don't wear one.
So I'm going to go with overrated. I don't wear one so i'm gonna go with overrated i don't i don't wear i'm gonna start soon but i didn't like the way they looked even though that's
my name i don't like the way they look but i'm gonna start soon i'm actually gonna design some
special ones i got some great merch coming soon which is gonna be really cool so where did where did the name come from the name okay so the name is weird how it happened okay so i was working as a as a butcher
like i was an amateur butcher right and um i was using using the table saw, right.
And I was cutting this side of beef and I was using the table saw and the, my apron,
one of the ties got caught on the table saw and ripped it off.
Like, thank God it wasn't that well-made.
It ripped it right off.
Right.
And my boss goes, and I don't know where it came from
and he goes if that was a cummerbund you'd be dead and so yeah maybe the weirdest remark to
make in that scenario you're like a cummerbund why would i be wearing that
this he was an old italian guy it was weird this is the weirdest story of my life guys you
have no idea so yeah so he says if that was a cummerbund you'd be dead and that just stuck with
me my entire life so i was like all right that's what we're going with and you know when we were
deciding a dj name and stuff like that and that, that's what it came out with because of why,
because if it wasn't for,
if it was wearing a cummerbund,
I'd be dead.
So I'm here.
So now DJ cummerbund.
That,
that is a good origin story.
Cause that is too important of a moment to,
to not honor that forever.
Exactly.
Exactly.
Do you ever go in any capacities?
You go by your government name on everything,
or if anyone that's a fan of DJ cummerbund, that's what they would know you as?
That's what they would know me as.
Yeah.
Perfect.
We'll just leave it at that then for this conversation then too.
I always like when we have people on when you never even actually know what their real name is.
We have them by this, you know, whatever their persona is.
Right, right right right uh okay
talked about you just like uh it's just like randy savage you would never call him by his
a last name don't get don't get too far ahead of us on this actually because well actually as
long as you're bringing it up overrated or underrated macho man, Randy Savage. Underrated, 100%. He should be way more popular than Hulk Hogan.
He had way more athleticism, way more charisma on the camera, way more.
He was insane.
Yep.
His promos are literally an insane person.
It's like that's hard to imagine.
You're going to store it down here and then raise it up that's how you
do the macho man and have you just have you always been a fan of him is that where is that
where including him and everything comes from yeah i've always been a fan of him but i didn't
know he had a rap album until like later on in life um and then when i found out he had a rap album and i started doing
all this i needed to get my hands on it and the only place i was able to get my hands on it i had
to order a vinyl from japan now this was before vinyl made a comeback and vinyl was popular again
i had to order a vinyl from japan um with a b-side that had the acapella tracks and then i had to order a vinyl from Japan with a B-side that had the acapella tracks.
And then I had to go and buy a record player that had a USB hookup so I could hook it up to my computer and play with it that way.
It was a struggle, but once I had it, magic.
It was like the gold mine was sitting there.
How did that record even exist?
So how could you ever find that?
And of course
it was in japan out of all the like like natural i mean i heard about his rap album yeah a few times
but i've never seen it in person i always heard about the dish track to hogan and all that kind
of stuff but i never i never really was able to listen to it because again youtube wasn't really a thing yet it was starting to become a thing um so yeah so
i was able to do a an internet search and i found it and i was like it's mine do you do you like
slim jims i snap into them i've snapped into a slim gym yes yeah yes absolutely uh overrated or
underrated okay this is the one that I was getting into.
You're at your sensei's dojo.
We talked about great 90s cartoons.
We even brought this one up.
So overrated or underrated?
Master Splinter.
Oh, that's a good one.
Right.
I do think it's a good one.
It's a good thought exercise on overrated or underrated
master splinter.
So I heard a theory
recently
that kind of pertains to this.
So
I'm going to go with underrated.
Okay, because
I just heard a theory recently
about why he
gave the certain weapons to each each of the brothers
okay um he gave michelangelo the nunchucks because he was too chaotic and needed to control
his flailing personality okay he gave the size to to Raphael because he was stubborn and pigheaded.
So therefore he had a blunt tip and a short throw.
Right.
He gave the stick to, or the staff, I should say, to Donatello because Donatello was too sharp for his own good.
Right. And then, so he had a blunt staff. was too sharp for his own good. Right?
And then, so he had a blunt staff.
And then he gave the swords to Leonardo
because he wasn't as sharp as he could have been,
hence why he was the leader.
He wanted him to unlock his potential
and unlock the sharpness capability in his intelligence.
So I just heard that theory recently.
So therefore I'm going with underrated.
Yeah.
That's that wisdom.
That's good.
Exactly.
Did you still think the bo staff is the worst?
Really?
You gave me the stick and I have one of the swords.
Well,
I mean,
he did have all his electronics to help him out with the book.
Yeah, right.
He was really smart.
Did you ever play the Turtles in Time video game on Super Nintendo?
Unfortunately, yes.
Oh.
Yes.
Was that game amazing or not?
All right.
It was fantastic, but it was hard as hell.
Yes.
Is that the one that's booked as being so hard?
Yeah.
I had a friend that had that, and maybe I my i have rose tinted glasses on about that but in my mind that was one of the
best super nintendo games ever and i probably haven't played it in 20 years so i'm very curious
how that would hold up today in in in terms of in um games that frustrated me more than anything turtle in time is number two no no sorry turtle
in time is number three um sega's the lion king is number two yes there's that one my same that
same friend had that game too and i don't know if we ever made it past like the very first beginning
where you're jumping up the stuff like yeah didn't make it anywhere in that game terrible and echo the dolphin is number one uh was that dreamcast
or no that was sega oh it was okay okay echo the dolphin you're a dolphin you don't know what to do
you're just shooting your sonar out at people i like stupid fish and yeah it's it was terrible game never played that one yeah
really good
you'll hurt your brain
what was the NES Ninja Turtles
was that just called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
was there a name
no it was just Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
yeah
I liked that one too
did you guys play the re-release of Shredder's Revenge
no it's a lot of fun and me and my buddy beat it in I like that one too did you guys play the re-release of Shredder's Revenge no
it's a lot of fun and me and my buddy
beat it
I think we did it in one session
and what's great about it is you unlock characters
and then go back
they re-released the arcade style
game
so it's the side scroll
and it's fantastic
because they got all the original voices to come back and do it and yeah it's the side scroll. Yeah. Yeah. And it's, it's fantastic because they got all the original voices to come back and do
it.
And yeah,
it's fun.
And they released it on Xbox and PlayStation.
Okay.
Awesome.
All right.
Last overrated underrated topic.
We usually save the most important for last.
I also,
we kind of hinted towards this a little bit,
but I also really like this as an overrated, underrated topic
because you have to really think about the game
and what overrated and underrated each means here, I think.
So overrated or underrated Nickelback.
So you want my opinion or popular opinion?
That's kind of what you got to weigh is what is your opinion or popular opinion? That's kind of what you got away is what is your opinion versus popular opinion?
What gets more weight there?
Yeah, that's right.
All right.
So my opinion is they are underrated.
Okay.
They get so much slack and so much hate, but yet they sell out everywhere.
Okay.
And you'll be walking down the street and somebody will say, what are you listening to?
You'll be like, ACDC.
You're really listening to like Rockstar.
They are played so often, so much.
There's a reason why they have the following they have, But yet everybody boos them like crazy. It's ridiculous.
So I'm going to go with underrated.
I mean, anyone can interpret the way you want, but I think we both agree with that.
I mean, that's the way I feel about that answer as well.
Yeah, I agree. And I also think, though, like we've talked about this a lot on the show lately, is it seems like maybe public opinion is shifting on like Nickelback Creed, you know,
some other artists from that area. And I,
it probably they had the nostalgia thing working in their favor,
but it seems like people might be coming back around on,
on how they maybe previously thought about some of these people.
Well, I kind of hope so because Creed doesn't get, I mean, not Creed.
Creed is whatever um nickelback
i don't i don't think they get the recognition they deserve to be honest yeah and we've said it
many times too some of those songs are fun songs you know like it's just uh it is fun it's a fun
fun listen you know there's a song that's i don't think it's ever been released on the radio.
It's called next contestant.
That song is a banger.
I don't care what anybody said.
It's about some guy flirting with his girlfriend and he's like taking him outside and beating the crap out of him.
That song is a banger.
I don't care what anybody says.
And I don't know why it wasn't more mainstream in my
opinion well we we lived in uh you know we live in the midwest so it really did feel like nickelback
was as mainstream as you could ever be like if i feel like if there was stretches where the radio
for like i don't know maybe 2004 to 2009 yeah if you didn't hear nickelback on you just skip to the
next station and nickelback was playing it felt like they were unavoidable for like, I don't know, six, seven years there.
I agree. I agree. Even here on the East Coast, I agree with that.
Good news. We're just tallying some things up as we're speaking.
It looks like you passed overrated, underrated. So you could put that
right next to your Webby. Maybe in between your MTV Music Award and your
Webby, you can have
passing, overrated, underrated on the Mastonomics podcast. I think I should. Absolutely. It's going
right in my trophy case. I'm going to write it down on the next piece of loose leaf I can find.
Very big achievement. So congratulations. That is really good. What, you know, people listening,
maybe some people here listening are new to you there probably definitely are some so where would you guide them would you tell them
to check out your youtube channel your website or where would you want to send them if they were
going to check something out i would say check me out on tiktok first because i got a lot more
content up there um especially with all the stuff like we were talking about before that i don't
um post full versions of i always
post on there um and then head over to the youtube page and you'll see all the full versions um i do
have a patreon page if you guys want to support me that'd be amazing um i always appreciate that
and um you know like i said earlier i got new new merch coming soon um and i'm finally going
to get the ball rolling on that, which I'm very excited about.
So possibly a cummerbund.
Possibly.
Okay.
I would be excited for that.
Awesome.
Well, we really appreciate it.
I think this was a hell of a mashup right here that we had tonight,
if you ask me.
Thank you so much, guys, for having me.
This was a lot of fun.
Awesome.
We appreciate it. Thanks, Mr. DJ Cummerbund. Of course, guys. Anytime. We'll see you. Thank you so much guys for having me. This was a lot of fun. Awesome. We appreciate it. Thanks Mr.
DJ Cumberbund. Of course guys
anytime. We'll see you.
Have a great one.
Did you give him those cool
beans? Those were mashed cool beans.
I had one thing I wanted to give him in addition
to those cool beans.
With the twins.
There it is.
DJ knew about them twins.
He knew about them twins.
I feel like there would be some real viral
factor to getting that incorporated
into a song.
There is nothing in my
life right now I could like more than if
DJ Cumberbund used the
coors light with the twins clip somewhere at some day like someday it would be if he ever did it
would be impossible to say that that was not influenced by us be very hard i mean we had to
unlock that memory for him but i think if he went back and listened to it he'd be like oh there's
some musical merit to what's going on here there There's something here. There's something here.
Oh, that's really cool.
Never would have thought that when we were listening, just jamming out to DJ Cumberbund that we'd be talking about on the podcast someday.
You know what else I never would have thought about is how much progress so many people in the mass dynamic community make on juggernaut AI.
And when I think about it, I actually did think that they would make that progress.
So I'm lying.
I always believed they would make that progress because from the moment that
Mount Rossmore in the gym first showed me Juggernaut AI and what he was using there,
I thought, yeah, I was like, what is going on with this app on your phone that looks good
and has to do with powerlifting?
Like I've never seen anyone make something that looks good and has to do with powerlifting. Like I've never seen anyone make something that looks good
that has to do with looks good and professional and works well
that has to do with powerlifting besides the Massonomics podcast.
And then add number two is Juggernaut AI.
It's training.
I want to say, I was going to say template.
It's not a template.
It's like two levels beyond the template.
It is like having the coach in the palm of your hand in the way that you're inputting all your information,
height, weight, how you're feeling that day, how your diet's been, if you have any ailments of any kind.
And then over time, it's building this phasic programming for you where it's going to go through hypertrophy phases, strength phases, and then ultimately get you to peaking phases.
So if you want to use this for a powerlifting meet, it's perfect from start to finish.
It'll take you right to that powerlifting meet date to use it to help you even right down to picking those final numbers for the powerlifting meet.
So had a lot of people use it.
final numbers for the powerlifting meet.
So had a lot of people use it.
Several lifters came to our powerlifting meet.
The Lift Hard, Leave It Easy Classic had been using this and hit PRs with it on that day.

And this episode is also brought to you by Barefoot Shoes.
If you're anything like me, you wake up every morning just like any other guy.
You go to the bathroom, get your coffee, and then you hop over to the barefoot.store website
to see what the heck they got going on.
And if you haven't been there recently, you'll see they've tweaked the website a little bit.
There's a few changes.
And one thing that's really fun is when I click on the shoes tab and you go down,
there's a fun little x-ray of what your feet look like on barefoot shoes
versus what your feet look like with shoes from the other guys.
And let me tell you, I'm just scrolling back and forth.
You can swipe the x-ray right over the top.
And to say the changes are drastic might be an understatement.
There's a lot that changes between your foot in a barefoot shoe and your foot in those super
cushioned, toe-pinching, narrow things that everyone else sells. Barefoot shoes come in a
variety of styles from low top to high top to slip- to boots right now boots are a favorite of tanner
and eyes they also work great for moving snow in those tricky dakota snow storms that we're
finding ourselves in um if you can keep it down there you can keep it they're they're in fargo
north dakota they can keep it up there for all I'm concerned right now on barefoot there is free
shipping on all orders over 300 so make sure when you go there load up that cart get that free
shipping and take advantage of the life-changing benefits of barefoot shoes you can check them out
at www.barefoot.store Thanks Barefoot.
Other news,
exciting news in the world of massonomics, we have
been gearing up for the Arnold Sports
Festival, which is crazy.
We were talking about it and it's
insane. It's less than
two months away. It's like
almost just like a month and a half away.
We'll leave
in February. Yep. One, two, three, four, one two three four i'm counting seven weeks you can't tell five six seven we leave seven
weeks from tomorrow yeah i we really can't hold anything back now can we no now is the wrong time
to be holding anything back how fast does it seem like this last year has gone by
really fast when you say that the arnold like the arnold does not feel that far away especially
that feels like a memory for me from last month yeah i mean between between the arnold and um
the lift hard live easy classic and crew falls and all that and our trip to ohio and our trip
to ohio it used to feel like other trips some of these people that we'd see at the arnold and
everything like this was a a very rare occurrence to run into these people and now it's like oh i'm
just seeing my buddies again that i haven't seen for a couple like it's starting to turn into
mass and i'm people that live on the other side of the country i'm starting to see more than some
of the people that i consider good friends in my life right uh that's actually
true yeah that's that is really true yeah yeah they are good friends too no they are they are
but like i didn't grow up with them and live in the same town as them and all that you weren't
in their wedding yeah yes exactly yeah there's many people that i was like in their wedding
that i don't see a fraction as often as i see some of these Masonomics people that live across the world all over the place.
So, yeah, I'm very excited for the Arnold.
It's going to be a lot of fun.
And, you know, just kind of we've talked about this feeling things out.
It feels like this year might be kind of crazy.
There's already been the images circling around of the photo meet and greets
with our names on the poster up there
with Sam Sulik and
Ronnie Coleman. I see Sam Sulik is there for
meet and greet photos. I was curious what
I assumed that that was going to happen
but I am very
curious to see what the crowd's like with him.
I think it's going to be absolutely insane.
I think it could be. I think it's going to be one of the
crazier as far as personalities that we've seen there and people following them around
and having a presence online. Right. I've seen like Bradley Martin before it'd be pretty crazy.
Him walking around there. I've seen a rich piano there at being pretty crazy with him.
CT Fletcher, several like that. And I just think he, you know, Ronnie, uhnie uh i think he could be it could be crazier
than all of them because i think so i was telling someone at the gym i'm like he appeals to 14 year
olds up to people our age he cast a wide net and i'm not saying everyone in that group yeah it's
weird to think that if someone was in their 50s or 60s and was like, oh, it's just a young guy having fun training.
I could see how people could find that entertaining too.
And I'm not saying every single person in that broad demographic,
but I just think he casts such a wide net right now that it could be wild.
So it'll be fun to see that.
The Strongman show is going to be pretty epic, I think,
with the lineup that they're putting out there.
Five past World's Strongest Man competitors all going against each other.
The Women's Strongman event just gets better every year.
The Animal Cage is back.
You know, the more I start to talk about it,
the more and more it feels like it's going to be...
Shaping up to be something once in a lifetime.
We've got some new things in the massonomics world
that we're prepping for.
Quite a few new things that will actually be exclusive exclusive there at the arnold yeah we've probably so got the booth the the items that
will be making an appearance we got them about 98 pin down there's only one or two that we're
still deciding what that's going to be but everything else we we've we're getting the
orders in we're getting everything put together so yeah it's starting to feel very real i don't know if we had on our official list from this week but before i forget i won't say it but
that one sticker that one new sticker item yeah and i have that in okay you got that i think that
is on our list actually but yeah very a special sticker that uh would be good gotta have the
stickers yeah so yeah i'm I'm, I'm pretty,
I'm pretty up on the Arnold and also just already thinking,
God,
how am I,
how we're going to pack all this stuff again?
You know,
we've got to pack all of this again to get there.
Oh,
it's such a fricking trip.
It's so far away.
It would be nice.
Wouldn't it?
What if it was just half as far?
Oh,
if it was just a one day thing that would change the perspective on it so much.
Mentally, it'd be such a different game.
If we could drive there even in 15 hours.
We could wake up at 6 a.m. and get there by 10 p.m. even.
Remember that one year when Ghost had a booth across from us
and they all rode together?
And they were saying how they got stuck in some convoy
and they were delayed. But they're like, they got stuck in some convoy and they were
delayed but but they're like yeah we woke up and we left at like 5 a.m when we were supposed to be
here by you know two or three right like what you can do like they're in iowa you can you're in a
neighboring state to us but also like from aberdeen to where they're at is a trip in itself. Yeah, that is a long way away for two neighboring states.
Yes.
But that's what makes it the Arnold, right?
That's why they call it the Arnold Sports Festival 2024.
So I guess this is why they call it the Arnold.
Was that something we started saying the very first time we ever went to the Arnold?
There was a certain person that said that many, many times.
Okay.
And when I say many times, like probably 10 times a day.
Was it Voldemort?
Yeah.
And I'm not sure that the first 20 times he said it, he even knew that he was on to something.
Yeah.
And then eventually I think he was like, oh yeah, I probably have said this a lot.
And then it was just like, everything was like, so I guess that's why they call it the Arnold anything that would happen yeah
it is a good line I guess that's why they call it the Arnold yeah that was the first year
should be a good time also I think uh things are slowly starting to shape up for the 2024
lift hardly easy classic you know I mean we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves, but yes, they are shaping up as they should be.
They are shaping up.
I don't know if I've told you this.
The shield, the mystery shield, is in fabrication and may be done very soon.
I actually don't know what the ETA is on that.
Did they put NASA's team of best and brightest on the engineering
department to figure out?
We had to make sure that
Big Kevin was not in on this
team working on this because
you couldn't have any insider information. They had to sign
NDAs and we had to explicitly call out
a certain guy's name. They couldn't be a part of it.
And we are going to have
one little teaser. We are going to have
one shirt come out pre-Arnold that can't say anything about it yet.
But I did hint on the Discord.
I've talked to you about the people that are involved in this,
but if you think hard enough, you can probably imagine the two crew members that are involved in this.
But there is two moles in on this project with us now two massonomics supporting member moles that are
you know going to be going to be important pieces of the puzzle maybe on like a from a marketing
standpoint and that sort of thing in this project and uh that really have been in one way or another
instrumental in it pre-conception almost of the actual conception we're talking about conception
here yes right right right so uh there could be there will be something pretty fun uh maybe one
of the funnest items that we've had in a while almost i don't know that's a bold statement i
guess but we like to keep things silly though though. Yeah, we do like to keep. We literally have shirts that say silly on them,
and you can buy one of those silly and strong.
And it's not that even.
Oh, my God, Tommy.
You got this crispy cold one sitting here.
Well, yeah.
We never opened a can today.
I had to halfway through.
I couldn't.
I was so thirsty.
I had to halfway through the interview.
What did you have?
I have a peach waterloo still okay i just i that's why i said oh my god in shock because i
looked over at my full can just realized the graveyard i made this whole time yeah so you
had a peach waterloo that's pretty good i'm guessing right delightful as always oh my god i
this explains why i'm so damn thirsty right now.
We've been talking for an hour and 40 minutes.
Yeah, I've got a strawberry mango good and gather.
I'm not a big mango guy, so I don't know how I'd feel about that one.
It's not great.
It's not offensive.
I'm between a three and a three and a half.
J.D. Pallard associates the words on this.
Let me take one more sip. I'm between a three and a three and a half. J.D. Pollard and Associates Awards on this. Let me take one more sip, and I'll give my definitive answer.
I'm going with three.
I don't love it.
I don't like, I don't know if it's their packaging.
I don't like the Good & Gather.
It's Target's house brand.
Yeah, I don't like their, I don't like it good and gather it's target's house brand yeah i don't like their i don't like it the way it looks it's it's slightly unique in the in the segment the way they have the
aluminum can with the fruit laid on it but i can understand how you could not like that too at the
same time it's a little unconventional yeah it reminds me too much of a cheap pop like where
it's like is this rc cola this is the off brand it's right it reminds me of yeah It reminds me too much of a cheap pop. Like where it's like, is this RC Cola?
This is the off-brand.
Right.
It reminds me, yeah, it reminds me too much of Our Family,
which it kind of, you know, I get it is a store brand.
It is that, yeah.
But also, if you're Target's brand, Good & Gather,
I don't think that's your, you don't want to look like Our Family.
That wasn't the objective when they said design this up.
Are you familiar with Our family or am i am i our family and uh flavorite were the two popular is our family
a walmart uh no our brand our family walmart's is uh just uh what the hell do they call walmart
why can't i think of it um great value great value god there you go yeah um no our family is
the one that a lot of the
grocery stores in our region of the country you know because not every mom and pop grocery store
has their own house brand so they have a it's the you know it's the it's the branded house brand
that everyone has is our family but i when i grew up in millbank there was two grocery stores
and one was in our family store where they had all our you know our family green everything yeah
is that jack and jill or no there was so there was two grocery stores there was bills and there
was barons and uh yeah of course yes and one was so what was in our family store and one was
a flavorite store i'm not even sure flavorite even exists anymore i don't have much experience
with flavorite our family it seems like a lot but would you agree? Do you think when it comes to store brand items, it's very product specific
of whether or not you would buy the store brand item or not? Like some things you'd absolutely be
like, yeah, I'll save like 30% on this. Like that's a no brainer. And other ones you're like,
nah, I kind of want like the good one. The most obvious ones are sauces of certain kinds. You know, there's certain sauces that
you're getting the sauce because you want the sauce, not because you want some odd off version
of it. I, although I do believe that, that store brands have gotten much better over the years too.
I guess I don't have a way to taste test something from, you know, 1998 to today,
but in my mind, I think that store brands have gotten better over the years.
But yeah, things like barbecue sauces and ketchup and things like that.
That's not where you go cheap, you know, and you shouldn't be going to that much of it that that's what's breaking the bank account either.
And like most canned items.
I mean, do you think canned items are that different
i don't i don't that's where i could see on a canned item where
i don't know if it matters very much i did we talk was this just recently on here was it somewhere
else uh box macaroni i always thought the off we talked about okay out of here the off-brand
spirals i thought were the best damn macaroni i thought those were so good yes yes there you go that's right yes uh but yeah so yeah there are a
lot of things that i don't think matt and to this day like i i described the cheapest one but then
yeah the things where it's like now i'll get the premium one it's oh or things like if you were
going to get um like certain snack items you know things that have been formulated in a lab to be perfect,
you know, super artificial. Like the Oreo. Yeah, Oreos. I just want the Oreo. Or like Pop-Tarts
or something like that. If you already get those, it's like, no, you just get the real deal here.
These aren't like staples of my grocery cart that if I'm going to treat myself. How about
this one? This might be a polarizing one. What about cereals? Breakfast cereals? See,
we don't really eat much cereal when
i was younger i need a lot of cereal my mom always bought the cheap stuff always uh what was some of
them seem almost exactly what were the ones that came in the really big bags they still do to this
day yeah i can't think what those are called what are those called uh we definitely had those
it's like malto meal is that what it yeah that's what I wondered if it was like Malto meal,
but something like that.
It's like, no, you're not getting Honey Nut Cheerios.
You're getting Sweetened Roundos.
Yeah, you're getting Cinnamon Toasters,
Tutti Frutti's, Marshmallow Matey's,
Berry Colossal Crunch.
But do you think those are basically exactly the same
or do you think there's a difference there?
See, I don't eat enough cereal to know. like i don't i just now that we have kids this is i went years
without buying cereal i probably didn't buy cereal for like five or six years and now that we have
kids sometimes we'll buy like frosted flakes or like or i um uh what are the circle like
fruit loops you know something like that you know things they can snack on um but i don't i still don't eat it like if they have it i might grab some from their little
bowl they're eating it out of because you know they're not eating it with milk either
but i don't have enough of a gauge on cereal to know what do you i mean do you think they're
similar or my uh brain tells me they have to be exactly the same, but my heart tells me when I see the name brand, I still like it better.
It's got the mascot you know and love.
It's not like some stranger coming into your house.
Even as an adult, a grown adult, if I see the actual brand, it seems more appealing to me for some reason even though i i don't believe they're different but
for some reason mentally the name brand still seems more appetizing to me they are significantly
cheaper though that's that then that's why i bring that one up because the price difference is
breakfast cereal is expensive oh my god i didn't that didn't dawn on me yeah that was one that i
wasn't even aware of until about a month ago when I bought some.
I'm like, holy, that's what they charge for this?
Yes.
There can't be more than pennies worth of actual material in this thing.
Yes.
It is so expensive relative to what you might consider it, what you might think that it should cost.
Geez, just on a weight basis.
When you look at a pound of hamburger versus, let's say, 16 ounces of cereal.
Yes. Really? this is cereal it's like just artificial sugar stuff with some type of carb to hold it all together you're like god hamburger they got like raise an actual animal and feed it
and process it and ship it and do all this stuff it just seems like that's a cold keep it cold yeah
there's way more steps to that process than making whatever artificial thing they have.
But yeah, price-wise, you wouldn't be led to believe that.
Well, I think there must be huge margin in name brand cereal, though, too.
That's why the off-brand is fractionally...
Yeah, true, yes.
Yeah.
You know, when it comes to name brand, though,
what I would always go for the name brand?
I got a feeling.
Yeah, Build Fast Formula.
Build Fast Formula.
Never cheap out on your supplements,
although these supplements are reasonably priced.
Do always go with the Build Fast Formula.
Vaso Blitz, a crowd favorite.
You know, it's kind of almost like a, what are those?
Like a convenience store boner pill mixed with a pre-workout.
Yeah.
I mean that in the best way.
I'm paraphrasing Chris Duffins.
I think everyone knows exactly what you mean there.
Yes.
So check out Vasoblitz.
If you've never had it before
try it 80 20 protein that's my personal favorite uh it's a mix of whey and casein protein and then
they've got the drink hack to hopefully help you curb some of the nasty side effects of uh living
a little too easy with alcoholic beverages. So check out their drink hack.
If you're a bit of an occasional binge drinker like the most of us are,
check out drink hack.
A recreational binge drinker.
Yeah, I would say a lot of us are kind of recreational occasional binge drinkers.
You got to occasionally see where the limit's at, right?
Yeah, that's true.
That's true.

Bassonomics YouTube has been rocking and rolling
like you wouldn't believe still.
This last week we put out the training.
I did a training vlog where I'd go through a deadlift day
and go through my warm-ups and do some car talk.
So if you haven't watched that one yet,
I guess what I would ask is for you to go give it a watch
and then also leave a comment and let us know what you think about it.
Let me know what you think about that style of Massonomics YouTube video.
And then complete the trifecta after you've left the comment.
Make sure to like and subscribe, too.
Yes.
Please go subscribe to our YouTube channel if you haven't yet.
We're on the road to 5,000 subs there.
I think we're going to get there in not too long,
but you could help us get there faster if you get off your lazy ass
and go give us a damn subscribe.
God damn it.
Hit the subscribe button.
And the episode that – well, it would have already came out by the time this podcast episode comes out.
It's a fun video, so we could talk about that we did a reaction video to the first two ever massonomics youtube videos from
late 2014 and earlier 2015 which were about did we say nine years ago is that when they were well
yeah no well we said eight and then i made the comment towards the end of it that like oh because
you said nine yeah but i'm like it was january. Okay. So that was nine years ago then.
Okay.
Right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
It is 2024.
Yes.
Okay.
So there again, I just get re-confused myself for like the third time on that, where I,
in my head, I've gone back and forth like seven times, like, oh yeah, eight years.
And then I'm like, no, nine is right.
And then I'm like, no, we were right eight.
But yes, it was nine years ago.
So it was actually December of 2014.
2014 was the first one,
December 28th,
2014.
So this December would be the 10th anniversary of the very first ever YouTube video published.
That's crazy.
That is actually,
that's really,
that's crazy.
We talk about in there how much different I sound and it looks and everything,
but I sound, but I'm like, well, it is almost 10 years ago.
I probably actually sound different in 10 years too.
How many traumatic things have happened to Tanner's vocal cords in that time?
I've lost my voice a lot of times in the last two years because of
Masonomics stuff.
Yes.
Yes, you have.
Many times this year even.
Like to the point where I can almost not talk at all that's actually funny to think about how that didn't happen how that hasn't really happened to me
at all this year and uh yeah every other time we went to the arnold that was a problem but for
whatever reason this this year i was fine there and the lifter live easy classic i was fine for
both for both of those mine was roasted at the arnold you wereesey Classic, I was fine for both of those. Mine was roasted at the Arnold.
You were done for.
I just was like giving up on talking to people because I couldn't.
At the Lifter and Livesey, I think I did lose my voice,
but I was also screaming when I was announcing.
And it was more by the end of the night when it was, you know.
Right.
It seemed appropriate.
Part of it is almost exhaustion setting in.
At the Arnold, I had to go like a day and a half without being able to talk.
You know, where it was just like,
oh, there's a lot of Arnold left here.
Being a mute over there.
Right.
But at the Lift Hard, Leave Easy Classic,
I was also kind of like yelling for, you know,
a stretch of time there.
It makes sense that that was the one.
Get the crowd going.
Yeah.
Yelling beast from the east when Bryce would come out.
Beast from the southeast.
So my point there being check out the mass dynamics youtube video i think that that reaction video should turn out kind of fun um i hope so we haven't seen the final product yet uh the final
product doesn't exist yet it's yet to be made we've got editing to do here. Anything else we have burning this week that really needs to get out there?
We covered the Our Family.
That was at the top of mind for me.
That's what I was really worried about.
Are we going to talk about store brands, house brands?
Yeah, so we got that in.
Luckily, that one's finally checked off the list.
It's been on there for about 300 weeks.
Talked about the crumble cookies.
Got the cookies.
Oh, on that same subject, the other day I ate at, you know,
speaking of chains and food and all that, I ate at Jersey Mike's.
Have you ever had Jersey Mike's before?
God, I feel like I have, or why do i know what what is jersey mics i've
certainly had a lot of commercials they have danny devito in a lot of their commercials
okay i mean they advertise on like have i i i'm gonna say no i haven't i had never had them until
i moved here okay it seems really familiar but i'm gonna say no and man once you it still is yeah sandwich shops whatever like it's still
i don't know if a sandwich is ever my top choice if i'm gonna you know pick food but no god when
you go in there even compared to comparing it to a subway you're just like this is a totally
different this is a totally different level of product here we're not even in the same it's not
the it's apples and oranges yes and again i'm getting a fast food sandwich here so i'm not like saying that they're setting the
world's highest bar but like you order a philly there they take the meat they actually go to a
grill they're like chopping the meat up they're cooking it on an actual grill before they throw
it on the sandwich and give it to you it doesn't go it doesn't come out of its little um pre-decided like into a microwave that like throws into a microwave and then they throw
like it's just like man okay this actually kind of feels like food and is it better than uh firehouse
subs i have i haven't had firehouse clubs for quite a few years so i have a firehouse i thought
was a lot better than subway yes and their quality is much better too but it's been just long enough that i haven't had
them for a long time the other one that's in town here was capriati's and that was really good but
damn do you pay for it i think it was how much is like a sandwich i think you know something
comparable to like a foot long i i got a philly there and i think it was about 18 by the time i
got the meal and everything wow i think the firehouse sub when i got it was actually quite expensive too to what i had thought like i was like think it was 15 plus
i could close to 20 and i remember being like well it is way better than sub i guess i'd rather spend
16 on this than eat at subway for seven and be like well i don't even i don't think you can eat
at subway for seven anymore unless you get a six inch what was the whole deal five dollar foot longs so that doesn't exist oh god no i don't
i don't think so i don't think that's existed forever i haven't eaten subway used to be in my
rotation of like where i would probably when i was like a cow like in my early 20s i would get
subway a few times a month probably yeah and i haven't had subway in
i think maybe the last time i had subway is did you and i have to go to a subway oh yeah on the
way back from the arnold one time on the way back from the arnold one time we had to it was like in
a gas station and we're yeah we think there when it was opening or was in the morning like oh no
no okay no we actually i'm there was multiple subways we've done
in the arnold one okay maybe on the first time back that we drove back we were in a gas station
we stopped at one and we i remember we got it so it was late and we're like oh we're stopped we
might as well get food now because the next stop is probably going to bed so i remember getting it
back there but then yes that that first time where we had a booth and we stayed at an Airbnb, which was god awful.
Remember how sketchy that thing was?
How shitty and sketchy it was?
Yeah, okay, yes, I remember.
Yeah, I just pieced it together in my head.
So shitty, yes.
Now I can picture the subway and stuff.
So shitty, so sketchy.
And there was a subway not too far from us.
So we'd wake up every morning because we didn't have anything to eat and we'd just go to that subway.
But then on whatever day it was, the last day of the Arnold, saturday the subway didn't open for another hour so we had to figure
out and then we then we ate at the arnold that day remember and we're like oh the breakfast is
actually pretty good there weren't the caffeine and kilos guys sit yeah they were right by us yes
yep but that was probably in 2019 that would yes that would have been 20 because that was a long
time ago so that was five years ago uh-huh that's the first, when I think about Subway,
that's like one of the first memories,
most recent memories that comes to my mind.
I'm trying to think if we ever had Subway on the trip since then,
but yeah, no, nothing ever.
Like if we're like out and we're like, oh, we're going to eat out.
And it's like, where should we, we don't all that often,
but when we do and we're like, oh, even if it's just, we're like,
we're just going to get fast food or something never i can't even
remember the last time i thought that we like subway would be a choice like we'll go into subway
and i used to eat that yeah see they've never been in my rotation but they have been a thing
of like well it's there it's convenient like if i'm in a pinch like that is one that i will then
okay yep i'll go but i'm never like craving it like oh i gotta get a sub that never that never i should say from subway
right my my wife she went through in aberdeen she was somewhat of a subway i'm not gonna say
regular but she would get there fairly fairly often she'd bounce between that and jimmy johns
it's like she'd get she'd do one enough that she'd get burnt out, so then she'd have to do the other one to even it out again.
Aberdeen, for as little as it is,
this is kind of what makes the case for Subway.
I think at one point we had like five Subways.
I think so.
I might be exaggerating that, but there was at least four.
There was for sure four.
There's one at Walmart, too.
Yep, the Walmart one.
There was the one way out east.
Two on 6th Avenue.
Yep, two on 6th.
And one by the old Kmart. one there was the one way out on 6th avenue yep two on the 6th and uh um one one nor by
kmart the old kmart yep yeah our shop call oh no yeah and well yeah there's no shop call yeah
there is one by kmart there was there's one in that store shop call yeah yeah yeah but i think
that that still makes four right i think so yes so, yes. Yes. But we had four.
Those might all be open still.
I don't even know.
The one way out west by Shopko, that one's not open.
Okay, that's not anymore. I think that one was a casualty of COVID.
That was the last one.
Yeah, because that was like the closest place to where we used to live
that you could get fast food.
You know, because it was close to McDonald's there.
Right.
So that was like a quick, easy one.
And then that closed very shortly after we moved to our house.
I think a lot of the businesses in that particular little area are not
businesses that they used to be like within the last five to 10 years.
Oh yeah.
Between the shop.
And then I see,
is there like a dollar general or something out there now too?
Maybe I thought I saw,
there's an old pizza hut out there,
but that hasn't been pizza.
That's been many,
many years.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Pretty much everything else. There's an old pizza hut out there, but that hasn't been pizza hut for like 50 years. That's been many, many years. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Pretty much everything else.
Shopko is not Shopko.
Uh-huh.
And then the Max and Irma's is not Max and Irma's.
Right.
Right.
Trying to think what else is even over there.
Yeah.
