Alright, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another episode of the Massanomics Podcast.
If you notice, we're not here with... Tyler sounds different today.
Yeah, I sound a little different. I got a frog in my throat.
But no, Tyler's not with us. He's gone to a better place.
So he won't be with us this week uh no but he's not here but he's time zones apart yeah i'm i'm here tanner's here tommy's here
and then uh flying ryan is here with us this week what's up so you guys guys both just got back from where?
What was going on this last weekend?
Sunny San Diego, you know?
It was beautiful.
It was my bachelor party this weekend, and we went to San Diego.
And like any group of 12 guys going to California,
you're always afraid someone's going to get married to each other while you're there.
Because it's legal there.
It's legal.
I guess everywhere else as well. it could be a real issue but uh luckily you know um no one did any uh last second
marrying any surprise marriages so uh um we all came back the way we mostly arrived um maybe
maybe didn't feel as the same when we came home as when we got there a newfound love for bagel
bites what is the bagel bites so so this
is actually one of the nights so uh bachelor party was nice um you know unfortunately tanner you
couldn't make it um but but uh the uh the nice thing about my bachelor party was that we had
guys coming from a few different places in the country which is really awesome when you have
something like that and uh a few of the guys were hitting, which is really awesome when you have something like that.
And a few of the guys were hitting the road from Phoenix, which Phoenix to San Diego, you're talking like five and a half hours, I believe.
I've done the drive once.
It's a great drive.
Scenic, you know.
Compared to what we get in a five-hour drive here, it's a pretty awesome five-hour drive.
And so with that, they were able to stop at costco and uh load a load
up on the fire on the essentials you know the essentials yeah so like we kind of gave the
requests of you know your essential bottles of um vodka and fireball and tequila and then uh you
know you got to have your drunk snacks too so um beef jerky. I didn't realize you could get like, I mean, it makes sense, but what were those?
They were like little beef sticks.
Yeah, like beef sticks, like in just a big bag of like commercial made beef sticks, you know,
which I'm sure it's like the hot dog of beef sticks.
Oh, yeah.
No, those things are very similar to hot dogs.
Yeah, they're not like, see, you know, we live in the Midwest.
So like beef sticks, I feel like that's something everyone just has.
And they're from a local butcher of some kind.
Whereas these beef sticks, I would imagine, were like 95% filler with 5% meat.
But they do the job when you're hungry at that certain time.
What does the Costco brand beer?
Kirkland.
Kirkland's the Costco brand.
Did you have Kirkland products?
We only had, the only Kirkland products we had was a bottle of Kirkland tequila.
Yeah.
I mean, it's tequila.
Tastes like tequila.
I don't really know how to judge a tequila based on taste because they all just aren't good.
I think the only judge for tequila is does it have a really bad burn or just a burn at the end.
True, yeah.
And this, I think.
You feel like you have to puke or that you just might puke.
Yeah, and this was just like
that's tequila i didn't i didn't i didn't have i i mean i feel like i've probably had worse i've
definitely had better but um back to the original question though one of the requests was bagel
bites which normally originally it was hot pockets yeah and i don't know if people like
turn their nose up to hot pockets because i wasn't but hot pocket snobs i don't know yeah
but then or i think the options were hot pockets or bagel bites and our friend ended up going with
bagel bites and the great thing about bagel bites is when you buy i don't know if it's any quantity
but if you buy them in that what was that like 72 or something yeah a big box it was a big box
it comes they're like pre-loaded in these oven safe trays.
So we had a.
And one of the guys also brought a toaster oven with him too.
That was nice.
Not something you can do when you're flying on a plane.
Right.
So yeah, the toaster oven was just popping bagel bites out at all times of the day.
Mostly at night though, like at three in the morning.
Yeah, mostly.
So what was the quantity like of bagel bites?
Was it 70 something
that we said maybe it was more than that i i don't actually remember ever seeing the box i just
they were magically in my hand ready to go yeah so yeah how would you rank uh between hot pockets
bagel bites and pizza rolls how would you rank those three things okay that is that's kind of
like the pizza the microwave pizza showdown right there right there um man that is
a real that's like it could be the first uh three-way right there the triple threat match
uh i definitely have the most experience with pizza bites that's what i've had the most of
probably pizza rolls yeah whatever you call them yeah it's like a ravioli shape that's probably
what you call um our parents used to buy those a lot yeah and i would assume just because they
were the absolute cheapest one probably yeah for sure those are like a that
in hot pockets the thing with those is that all the good stuff is on the inside so especially if
you cook them in the microwave they're either going to be really cold or burning lava hot
you know jim gaffigan has hours of stand-up devoted actually i just saw him do stand-up
like a month ago and he ran off the stage didn't do a single hot pocket joke people just started chanting hot pockets hot
pockets sure enough like a minute later came out comes back and does 10 minutes of hot pocket joke
encore which when you told me that story originally i'm like wow i didn't know comedians did like
encore one more song request like he was given but like he was giving the people a take on it.
But when you're known so well.
There was people screaming they liked it so much.
Yeah, when you're known so well for something, I feel like you have to do it.
So if you guys listening have not heard Jim Gaffigan's stand-up related to Hot Pockets,
you need to check that out right now because that is a classic.
If you've ever had one, you should relate to.
A bagel bite has the toppings on the top like a pizza,
whereas the other two have the toppings inside.
I guess the pizza bites or whatever, they're kind of just like a miniature hot pocket really.
True, yeah, very true.
Good point.
I don't know if this is probably worth considering,
but when pizza's on a bagel, you can have pizza anytime.
That is true, and you can't really say that about either one of those.
You literally cannot because it's not their slogan.
It's not on a bagel, yeah.
But I would like to think that trip was.
Maybe I'll go with Bagel Bites for now as being the best
just because I'm not burnt out on them as much.
It was fueled by Bagel Bites, I would like to think.
I would say it partly depends on your mood if you were
really hungry wouldn't it kind of be nice to have the hot pocket i mean if i was if i was really
if i was trying to make a meal out of it the hot pocket for sure but if i'm using it in their
intended ways you know at 3 a.m i maybe maybe bagel bites right now i think yeah i don't think
i've ever had a hot pocket made in the oven and i to be honest, I'm pretty sure 99% of the people that have eaten hot pockets
could probably say the same.
Because if you're going to eat a hot pocket,
there's no way you're planning ahead.
Oh, I'm going to turn the oven on.
And I would imagine with a hot pocket, you probably have to cook it for like, well.
Probably almost as long as a pizza
i was gonna say i was gonna say probably even longer because it's like uh it's like a roll
with a filling so to get that whole thing cooked through if you're eating hot pockets
using an oven is not on your radar for no for most things i would think but
so yeah bagel bites were like we're good um what else did we do i mean i mean it's california it's san diego so we sat on the
beach a lot which is really awesome uh yeah you know their their beach scene's a little different
than our lake scene was it hotter there than oh no it's uh so just so you guys know right now
we're in tanner's backyard doing this and uh so i should have we're gonna be by the time we're at
the 20 minute end mark if you're watching we might look like we're sitting in under a sprinkler because i'm gonna be really wet it's
getting hot right now like uh what's it is it about 90 out today or oh yeah definitely and then
i mean it's 90 but we're also tucked against the corner of a building with the sun beating on us
but in san diego i think that the high for the year is like 78 and the low is like 72 it's pretty so it's like 70 i think it
was 75 every single day we were there yeah and it's i would say the sun is feels about as warm
as this it's just not nearly as it's not muggy at all yeah so you can be in direct sunlight and
like oh i'm kind of warm and then go into the shade for like two minutes and be like yeah i
feel like i'm cooled down and the temperature is just very tolerable i would say when it's here it's it's not also kind of a big takeaway from san
diego is a lot of a lot of power lifters uh you know breakfast is a big meal of the day it really
really easy to load on the protein and all that um but also with that it's one of the areas where
it seems like you go to restaurants and they just really screw you over all the time. Like whether it's fake eggs or, or low quantity of eggs or just bad breakfast meats, all that stuff.
Um, one thing we were in the Pacific beach area.
One thing that they did not screw you over on was breakfast.
Those, that burrito, the first place we went to, like the next day that at that Kono's place, that is probably breakfast burrito or regular burrito.
That's probably one of the best burritos I've ever had.
You could tell. Even the tortilla shell.
They definitely made that there.
Yeah, so we're talking
like $8 here, Tanner.
We had to wait in a line because they had to line out the door.
I think it was like $8.50.
I got the big breakfast, number two.
And I'm like, I haven't had French toast for a long time.
So I just figured... By the way, recommended to us by the bartender at the Frenchman Bar in Bloomington, Minnesota.
He just randomly knew about this place.
So we go there and it's like, it seems like it's a French toast based breakfast. I'm like, you know what?
I literally have not had French toast in a couple of years.
I'm going to do it, whatever.
So I get it. And there's I literally have not had French toast in a couple of years. I'm going to do it, whatever. So I get it.
And there's two pretty big pieces of French toast, but there's also like three big strips
of good bacon, not like the paper stuff.
There's probably like two diced potatoes, like the whole potatoes were diced with cheese
and bacon and peppers on them.
And then there was also a side of scrambled eggs.
And I didn't know I was getting any of that stuff.
And I mean, for $8.50, like they don't do it that way in the midwest at least the places i'm going
so uh and then we kind of had the same thing the next day too breakfast burritos that they just
loaded up and um so yeah it was no complaints about the food it was good yeah unless you
absolutely hate um like mexican style food or seafood then you probably wouldn't like it yeah then you might be in trouble ago because that's like what it was uh did anyone either either of you or anyone else
on the trip throughout uh get over served at any point in time well let me let me let me tell you
a story so um no tanner tanner i don't have you ever been to an actual nightclub, dayclub, or pool party of any kind?
Yeah, and Vegas would be my only.
Studio 54, maybe in Vegas or something like that.
Okay, so I haven't been to a ton.
I have been to a few in Vegas.
And that would really, yeah, Vegas would be about my only experience with them, too.
Right.
We decided, I've never gone to, like, a day club or a pool party,
anything like that, so we decided we're going to hit up the Hard Rock.
And they do this big.
Sunburn, right?
It's called Sunburn.
It's called, yeah.
And their pool party's on Saturday.
Oh, yeah, we got that.
One of our friends got severely sunburned, so, yeah.
So bad that he couldn't even walk normally.
I was like, you know, we decided also to do the bottle service thing because you know when you go to a pool
drinks are like 15 to 20 some dollars a piece so it's like well we'll just do the bottle service
and um by the time we were all said and done the bar tab was over two thousand dollars so it was uh
i've been meaning to ask about that i forgot until you're bringing it up so that was the
actual bar yeah that was there that was like wasn't it like $2,600 uh after tip it was around
like $2,200 which you tipped $250 which I wasn't even a 20% tip like I was asking my friends like
I you know how I am about money I had yeah that in and I was like oh my god the tip was $250 yeah
I think we left I think we left like around
a 15 tip which i felt like i was being really stingy and several people like do not tip that
much and some of my other friends like you have to tip 20 like our waitress was really good right
um also we got us many baskets of 36 water bottles and that was the other surprise no she goes do you
need do you need like water or something to get you started it's like yeah we're hot and hung over
water would be good too while they're bringing out like bottles of
vodka and i'm looking at the menu i'm like guys is that evian is it evian is that the brand like
is that a basket of evian water they're like yeah like those six bottles were 36 dollars
and after that we were just like panicking like how much does this other stuff cost
and then what did you talk do you say about the titos
like how much the bottle of vodka was a bottle of tito's vodka was 375 dollars yeah like greg
who's i think was like double that yeah so did you guys split that up a little bit so we split it we
split it all ways so i mean it worked out and like we talked about it's like you know what like you
all would have individually had expensive bills other you know well yeah like we talked about it's like you know what like you all would have individually had expensive bills other you know well yeah like we talked about like we went when we were in vegas last year and people
listening that go to big places we probably sound like idiots right now because they're like oh that's
the way it is but yeah when we went to vegas like we stayed at treasure island and it's just it
wasn't like a pool party it's just like this is the hotel pool and they got a guy playing music
and people were partying and everything but but ryan do you remember the dj doing that
the dj it was very hot over there it was like 110 120 degrees the entire time last summer in vegas
the entire time the dj was like djing at this pool last year he had two window ac units just
pointed at each side of his computer to keep it cold one was blowing on him and one was on his
computer because it gets so i mean it was like 114 every day we were there.
But like when we were there,
a drink at that pool was between like $18 and $28.
So we just went in,
like we didn't go to a day club thinking,
oh, we don't want to drop like 200 bucks.
Well, we stayed at our lame hotel pool
and spent like 160 bucks
not even getting that many drinks.
So that's just kind of how it goes.
But the other crazier part of it is uh
we thought pool party like there'd be a massive pool i would say it was day club that had a pool
like it was i mean i know people that have bigger pools in their backyard for sure
and uh it was very small the day started with there's a lot of people in that pool
and you know it's clear water well as the day goes on you start seeing some guys and girls connected doing like some weird things with their face um yeah and then as the day goes on you
realize you can't see like more than six inches i never got i never got my entire body in the
water i like sat there with once i realized once i realized how cloudy the water was starting to
get i did not go back into the pool do you think that are you saying that there's people potentially having intercourse oh there was definitely definitely yeah yeah there was definitely and even uh a
couple of the guys i don't know why the in the in the group were sitting in the hot tub at one point
and uh the hotel you could look up and see the hotel windows and at one point they saw um some
people doing some some some questionable activities in the hotel window
before they realized they were being watched and then they closed the blinds.
Is it like what Creed Bratton said that one time?
I think it was maybe he was at Woodstock or something.
Oh, a guy could have slipped in.
A guy could have slipped in there.
What's he say?
Yeah, a guy may have slipped in there.
I would have never known.
Yeah.
That episode was seriously on TV like a day ago.
I just watched that one.
But, yeah, there was a couple of people, like a group next to us.
There was just a few guys that had bottle service,
and that one guy wasn't even there for very long,
and he was not doing so hot.
And then, like, we look over, and he was just kind of passing out and then security comes over and like they have a wheelchair
sitting there for him people pick him up and throw him in the wheelchair and wheel him out and then
um i didn't see this but i guess people were saying that um there would be somebody really
drunk in the pool and like the security guard like point at the guy and they just pull this guy out of the pool and then just take him off i don't know where they took him
probably just kicked him out it's a rowdy it'd be a tough i don't know how you could work in that
on saturday afternoons didn't you ask normal job didn't you ask the security guard like oh
do you guys all jump in the pool i said i said security guards because i said what time is this
place shut down he goes seven o'clock, you know, PM.
Get the people out of there.
I'm like, oh, so it's one of the perks of the job.
You guys all get to swim in the pool for free.
He goes, not going in that disease pool.
Oh, yeah. So it was a pretty well-known fact that you just don't go in the pool, I guess.
Yeah, it's pretty gross.
Pretty nasty.
You know, there was a lot of other stuff that happened, and we probably don't need to go into the details of all of it.
But it was a good trip.
I highly recommend checking out San Diego at least once if you haven't been there.
Was it a situation where, you know, everything was fun and everything, but, like, at the end, were you happy that it was over?
Or could you have stayed for, like, two more days?
I mean, I maybe could have stayed for a day or two.
I probably would have had to quit drinking just because.
Yeah, and, like, I feel like if you're going on a vacation for three days, or maybe a more party vacation like that,
you kind of want to hit it hard.
Yeah, you know you have three days to get after it.
And then the last night, you're like, okay, this is it.
I feel like if you throw in another day or two,
and it gets to be four to five days,
you almost will take one of those middle days to just,
I'm just going to relax and sleep a lot and go to bed early.
So it kind of changes the trip a
little bit i guess but yeah yeah i like it i'm sad that i didn't didn't get to go although i don't i
don't yeah i followed i followed it all pretty closely like i felt like i got to see some of
the highlights but i don't know if i physically can could or can do it for like three
days oh there's no way you could tanner a man you would have been in that wheelchair
but no it's it's exhausting and by the time we were done i was i was ready to go like that's
that's enough for me like that just gets to be because then it just interferes with other stuff
like sleeping or life trying jobs yeah
jobs and trying to come back and like feel good it's also one of the go to the gym yeah that's
one of the things that's tough it's like when you're gone for a few days um and you run your
own business and you miss a few days of work that literally means nothing happens it's like not like
oh they're gonna figure it out when i'm gone yeah so then it's like you just you have to make stuff
up and so then like i kind of suffer
this week like it's been really tough to make it to the gym so tough that i haven't made it to the
gym actually so so yeah that's uh that's really sucked but uh um sometimes with these things just
something has to give in life and right now right now the gym is the one that's given so yep and
realistically like if you're not uh looking at doing a competition in the immediate future.
I know. And that's, yeah. And that's where I just.
Even, yeah. Now, now is the time to, you know.
I can be a little more flexible with my schedule.
Yeah. Because it really, if, say, if you miss a week right now, is that going to affect how you lift in a powerlifting meeting?
No.
Seven months from now or?
Well, I mean, some people would say yes
it does yeah maybe but like i don't know but all things considered like a week now is not gonna
change a ton yep right no this would if you're going to miss a week this is the time of the year
to miss and i think a lot of times um i know me a few years ago and probably like a lot of younger lifters in general would be like, no, I can't miss.
It's a big deal.
But it's like, well, also when you look at it, this is a marathon and definitely not a race.
It's more about what you do over the course of 10 years than what you do over the course of three months.
But also, it's just powerlifting.
But also, don't ever miss, though.
Don't ever miss a lift ever or a workout.
But yeah, you just kind of, I think you'll just drive yourself crazy.
If you're just like, I have to go to the gym.
I have to do this.
Cause that just ends up not even being fun.
And like, yeah.
Yeah.
And if you don't sometimes enjoy yourself and other things like, I mean, I, I really
like power lifting a lot, but it only lasts for so long too.
Like if that's the only thing you did for 15 to 20 years, then, like, when it's over, yeah.
What do you?
Well, maybe I should have gotten married and had a family.
Now that I'm 60, I think it's too late.
Exactly.
That being said, I didn't miss any days while you guys were gone.
Good.
I knew there was someone taking care of it for me.
I've been going at 5 a..m yeah so are you uh are you feel like those training sessions
are are they adequate to your afternoon sessions it comparable i i've had a couple in there that
were noticeably worse are you eating before or what do you how are you doing this i wake up what's the schedule yeah i'll tell you it's yeah i'll i'll tell you because i'm not normally accustomed to
i'm not a i mean we've been for years uh like 6 p.m to 8 p.m lifters and that's always my favorite
you know and that's just i mean after a decade of doing that and like yeah you know just train yourself to like accept that
like yeah but so just with life going on and having another another kid in the house and
you know work demands and other things in order for me to be able to make most of the days i want
to that's just something i have to do right now and so my schedule for that is my alarm goes off
at five actually the i would say the schedule for
it starts the night before because i prep everything down to the clothes i'm going to
put on to go to the gym the clothes that i'm going to wear to go to work you have to i mean it saves
you yeah a lot of time scrambling looking for a pair of socks at 4 30 and when your brain's barely
awake you take out all that decision making yep i i I put the coffee in the Keurig and have my cup underneath it.
You already put poop in the toilet.
I have to get ready.
This needs to be done.
I get my breakfast.
I have my pan on the stove and my plates on high.
Hot griddle.
But my alarm goes off at 5. I get up, turn the turned on. On high. Hot griddle. But my alarm goes off at 5.
I get up, turn the coffee on, go to the bathroom, change,
grab my coffee, am out the door by 5.10,
and I'm to the gym by 5.15.
Yep.
And then.
Assuming traffic isn't bad that morning.
That's a joke.
That's a joke. That that's a joke. But the one thing is that five,
yes,
train train in the town that we live in and five o'clock turns out to be like,
I've had a couple,
uh,
scenes from like gone in 60 seconds where I,
the Buick jumps the tracks.
That is not far from the truth because the one morning i woke up and i
could hear a train coming from uh the one direct the opposite direction and i was and i was literally
like i i'm on such a tight schedule i like got in tore up and i was yeah going like crazy and i got
to the one cross street where you could see the train and i looked down and the lights for that
street were just that crosswalk were just turning on so i kept going the other way and like was going like 45 miles an hour down you know little uh residential areas yeah yeah and uh
just barely beat it but uh but i get there by 5 15 and i'm warmed up and doing my first working set
at the latest by 5 45 that's my goal because i have to though getting warmed up is hard at that
point in time especially especially when i'm squatting well yeah yeah you haven't moved
basically waking yourself yeah you haven't moved around don't have to do if you're lifting at six
o'clock at night because you've been awake for you know like that that's something that surprised me
because i like never lift on the weekends or if i have to go in on a morning, even by like 10 o'clock and I've been awake for three hours, it still feels like everything just hasn't moved as much as it normally would.
And it's all tighter.
And it is.
And I can feel that.
And it takes longer to get going.
I'm, I'm very awake by the time 545 hits.
I down in our basement gym with no windows and the stereo on and stuff i
can't i forget what time it you know it it after being there for 15 minutes it doesn't even feel
like it's yeah five in the morning you know it just feels like i'm at the gym like any other
you know right in the morning could be five at night i don't even know they don't want any lights
they don't want yeah no that that is what it's like and but i don't know and it's been it's been going good usually
the first set is the hardest yeah like on my squat days that first set is my knees feel it more and
everything but um all in all i've had some really good workouts i'm i'm on such a time crunch that
i take lesser breaks by necessity.
Yeah.
And part of how I'm woken up by that time is from the second I get out of bed,
I'm like in a sprint.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm like in a.
I don't do this as fast as I have to.
Like I'm not going to be able to finish my workout.
Yep, exactly.
Like I don't sit on the toilet and look over my phone like normal morning.
Like 20 minutes of Instagram just doesn't exist yet. But just yeah all in all it's it's pretty good you know there's some
there's been a couple days where i could just feel completely exhausted but like you said i don't eat
beforehand what i do when i wake up i guess i forgot to throw that in there i drink like about
actually one of those glasses of water i choke that down as much as i as fast as i can and then
i eat half a banana half a banana and that's all i something in there yeah originally i was just
doing the water and then i'm not hungry and and then i've still got to get my cup of coffee down
on the way so about all i can choke down is half a banana in that water and then that seems to be
a decent formula though for getting me
so i don't feel dehydrated and completely like shit and i also drink quite a bit of water the
night prior you know when i know i'm going to do that and then i'm out of there by uh
6 45 okay and you said you get there about 5 15 yeah five yeah so you get a good hour and a half
yeah it takes yeah just about 20 minutes of warming up,
and I got a little over an hour to get my lift in.
Yeah, the one I would struggle with the most would be spotter on bench day.
Well, that's what I was going to ask.
That would be the toughest one.
Is there ever anyone there that early?
Surprisingly, we do have a few members that come that early.
We've got Big Brant.
He is there occasionally,
and then there's been three
other people that i've seen in there at that that hour but i'd say at least half the time i'm there
by myself the only part that it works out right now is i'm you know doing hypertrophy training so
right all the rep ranges between 8 and 12 reps so i you know right i'm not like i don't know
at the worst case scenario if something happened i'm not gonna
die it's just gonna yeah you'll just have to roll it off you're in some weird way and but like i'm
also not you know the percentages i'm training at and stuff like i shouldn't be missing
right like if i'm missing my lifts then i've got a bigger problem
there's deeper issues then what are you doing right now for a program?
I don't know.
Maybe I have.
I think we mentioned it a little bit the last time because you were talking about how you read Chad Wesley Smith's book.
Yeah, yeah.
So I guess we maybe talked about it a little bit.
But it's basically just a hypertrophy block of training, three up and one down is what I would call it.
So it's three uh
is that getting a little hot it might get a little hot yeah that's what i wanted i was gonna say yeah
we might want to put that in the shade maybe i should put it right down here we're we weren't
joking it's really hot out here so a recording device might uh just not like being in the 100
degree sun the whole time um Um, but it's three weeks
up and one week down. So three hard weeks that kind of progressively get a little bit harder
usually with, with more volume. And then the fourth week is a deload. And I just finished my
third week up. Uh, so now I'm ready to start my deload week and i do feel trashed from it yeah but that's the idea
is that you know you by the end of that you probably shouldn't feel yeah when that week
real great to give you some recovery and so like this program is more like linear periodization is
that one of the only programs that you've done because more like the jackals are like the program
that most people do ms comics like the general strength program is like undulating where it's
not really it builds up but it's up and down up and down and this is undulating also but the
so that what undulating means is the rep ranges is what that's what i look at it is that the the rep ranges are undulating so just like in jackals
sometimes yeah well but but yeah but but these it undulates together with the reps and the
percentages move together so on uh my low day which would be be in hypertrophy, just eight reps, I'd say, and the highest percentage,
or maybe you'd call that your high day, just depending on how you look at it.
So the reps are the lowest and the percentage of the highest.
And then the opposite of that would be 12 reps for the lowest percentages that I'm going
to perform.
So it does undulate in that way.
But the key there is the the range of those
reps from highest to lowest it's only going from 8 to 12 like I'm not doing triples and sets of 12
yeah yeah and just like in in a strength phase it would undulate like that also
but it would just be you know maybe low rep of three high rep of six so that's what i'm doing now and it's uh
but something we were talking about before the podcast before before we started recording here
that i thought was worth mentioning is ryan he said he hadn't seen it yet but um mr three yeah
yeah powerlifting related here yeah so yeah the yeah so the new all-time world record um equipped yeah equipped multi-ply
record has been broke again um originally you could say that the big mark was put up by donnie
thompson how long ago was that now is that like 10 years ago probably yeah when he got his mr 3k
and then dave hoff came around and had what what did he do, 3,005?
Yeah, so he was Mr. 3K5.
And then did he hit 10 not that long ago?
And I think that was just last year, I believe, wasn't it?
And then this, just like a week or two ago, he did 3,014.
And I didn't see, I guess I didn't spend a lot of time looking,
but it seems like it's always really hard to find footage of those meets. For whatever reason, it's one of the toughest things is that
one of the only things in a sport where it's a world record
and really, really tough to find any footage that isn't potato quality
or the worst angles of all time behind Behind you from 10 people's heads.
Right, and the video that he has on his Instagram,
yeah, it's not the greatest quality,
but it does say that it was on ESPN.
Was that just the deadlift or was that all three lifts?
I think this is just the deadlift.
See, and I have yet to see an all three lift.
And you have to assume that it's not because of what he deadlifted.
It's because of what he didlifted it's because of what
he did after so yeah so yeah so we'll get to that but um that is and not even i mean just from being
a fan of this like people are going to say well get to that point and you do it but i'm just like
saying as a fan of the sport like i just want to see the lifts like i want to see what like i'm
assuming he probably did like a 1000 some pound-some pound bench. Yeah, the total's right there.
He has, yeah.
I think this is, well, it says best lifts in his bio.
So it's 1,235-pound squat, 1,500-pound bench, 827-pound deadlift.
Yeah, so I just want to see what the multi-ply 1,500-pound bench looks like,
and I want to see what the 1,200 1,005 pound bench looks like and I want to see what the 1,200 pound
multi-ply squat looks like.
But what's interesting about this now is
the deadlift.
The deadlift he did to
break the record. Yeah, to break the record.
And the video,
that's what they posted the video of and
I'm not
in no way to discredit
how strong he is or not no way to discredit how strong he is
or not even trying to discredit, you know,
multi-ply lifting or anything like that,
and not to discredit him because he's not a judge.
Yeah, he's not the judge, so it's not,
I mean, it has nothing to do with him, really.
Right, but he dropped the, I mean, he dropped the weight.
And, like, fell took him a step back and maybe like
maybe uh bobbed or something weird on the way up even yeah you know like and he fell and again i
don't know what was an apf me i think so yeah and i don't know the apf rule book and maybe they don't
have rules on some of that stuff but i think they do i i don't think you can drop your deadlift like
that and fall over that's a pretty universal rule but yeah and and like again i you can drop your deadlift like that and fall over. That's a pretty universal rule.
Yeah, and, like, again, you can't blame Dave at all for it because, like, I mean,
he's just the lifter lifting.
It's the refs.
You know, the refs probably made a bad call there.
But that's what sucks about this is it seems like when a lot of times when people
are going for these world records, all-time world records especially,
that sometimes the judging, reffing sort of goes out the way it's the same thing like when you see
we talked about it before like when you see stan efforting and ed cone guest judging a meet
and while stan's judging the meet he also has instagram out recording it it's like well
you're also focusing on pushing your butt pushing the button on the screen keeping the person in
the frame but you're also watching the squat depth and getting ready to hit that button like i don't know
if you're doing the best job with all those things man like maybe draw the line so like i get it
you're a great power lifter i don't know if you're a great judge though i don't think you're judging
youtube i don't think you're judging credentials aren't necessarily the best thing either anyways
so and that also goes the same thing like just because you've been around something a lot doesn't mean you're good like i don't know would lebron james be a good
great nba ref i i mean he'd probably be fine i don't know if he'd be like good all the time though
somebody that you'd want like judging the yeah i don't know if that's what you want reffing your
matches anyways like so um yeah that's kind of the the takeaway what i guess what happened at
the end of the video when he pushes oh yeah so we missed that part so anyways yeah yeah deadlift aside you know whether it was
dropped or uh or it was like make dropped or there was some weird movement i mean it was good i mean
they counted a good lift so uh break the world record but then it's what happens next where
things get a little so he pushes louis simmons and i think like yeah obviously adrenaline was
a thing but i think he did it just be
there's no way he likes that guy well no no it's it's I mean that's if you hadn't seen it before
you'd have to say that but like this is what Dave Hoff is known for is at the end of his at the end
of his big lifts he goes and like for someone finds his like spotter or whoever it is and like
levels them and uh I'm just assuming though he those guys have
a lot of pent-up i thought i thought the thing i read said that he had just started lifting in
louis like session oh like i thought it said he was in the afternoon session and louis would always
be in the morning session and he just started and that's why he's adding like weight to his total
but um he if you've watched any dave hoff videos you know that
he gets done finds his man whoever that is and gives him like the hardest push uh he can yeah
that was hard and this time airborne yeah this time it happened to be what 70 year old louis
gonna say he's 70 years old like any 70 year old that's yeah and louis was he was horizontal
through the air.
Yeah.
And he definitely had some hang time and hit the ground hard.
And then immediately I think he realized what he had done
and it was like, oh, trying to pick him up, you know.
And, you know, 70 years old or not,
Louie's definitely one of the toughest guys out there.
But, man, there comes a time when you're 70 years old
getting tossed through the air that can't be good for you.
And that did make SportsCenter then, too.
Did it really?
That, I guess, it did.
On his Instagram, yeah.
But SportsCenter isn't what it used to be.
It just ain't what it is.
It doesn't mean what it would have been in 1995.
It's like the TMZ of sports coverage.
So also in powerlifting news, I think we're on like day nine or ten of the ipf world
championships yeah have you followed it have you seen any of the results i saw that um i think it's
a junior ipf guy that his instagram name is like jala pena or whatever he's squatted joseph pena
yeah yeah he's what did he squat like was it like nine yeah nine thirty yeah was he 18 19 19 years old and the i think it was that squat they made him um walk it out twice he
had to rewrite because his fingers weren't around the bar enough i believe i'm not and i think yeah
what was it was it that the reasoning i don't know if it was soft knees or his hands. They said his fingers were like not right.
Okay.
I've never heard of that.
And he, fun fact for us, lifts with the spotter group from the Sioux Falls.
Was he there?
He was not there.
But, you know, that group.
It was like Midland University?
Yeah, there you go.
Yeah, yeah.
Are they out of Nebraska?
I think so, yeah.
So does he go to school there?
I'm not positive.
I don't know the details of that.
But, I mean, people always complain about how spotters out of me
turned out that good.
And, I mean, those were the guys we had spotting us.
Yeah.
They knew what they were doing.
So that's the thing now is, like, if and when, like,
that guy's going to catch Ray Williams.
He's from Texas, and in high school they have power lifting as a high
school sport in texas it is single ply but i believe they said he did a little over a thousand
as a senior in high school insane which is crazy like yeah yeah like you're 18 years old another
interesting thing i've noticed about that guy squatting um like it's ipf uprights and like he
has yeah he tips one in yeah he has one one hand on the
outside and one hand on the inside yeah yeah one of the combo racks is pushed in no i think yeah
no one of the combo racks is pushed in oh okay and the other one is straight up and he uses that to
like come into the rack angled which i still don't completely understand because he has one hand
would be inside the two and the other hand is outside of the one yeah which i've never seen anybody do before and i think when he does that
he has the bar very cockeyed too yeah he has the bar pushed over to like one side yeah the whole
thing is just like yeah but i suppose you know he's enormous depending on you know yeah i don't
know i've never actually had to push yeah i've never had to because we have the combo rack in the gym.
It's definitely not to IPF spec.
Right.
So I'm not 100% sure what them pushed all the way in is like.
And then he's probably a foot wider than me too.
Yeah.
So it could be that when they're pushed all the way in that it's probably tight on his shoulder.
He probably has to have a perfect walk in to not pinch himself in it.
Right.
So that must just be his way of getting around it.
But I wonder if you'll start to see more people doing that now
i i wouldn't be surprised well then everybody would be squatting over 900 pounds that's the
secret probably that's definitely yeah where it comes from be too many 900 pound squatters
did you guys see anything else i see uh jen thompson one jen yeah that was uh a lot of people
said that was
going to be one of the most competitive classes because do you know who uh what's her name uh
isabella she she cut she cut but she didn't make it did she she was doing any a huge cut
yeah and missed by like uh half a kilo or something and didn't uh make it to compete
against jen which would suck because she's from sw. Yeah. Yeah, she's from Sweden, has to fly to Calgary, Canada to Calgary to not compete.
Like, that would be rough.
And, you know, I mean, weight cuts of that are just a whole other level too.
Yeah.
Especially when we're talking a two-hour weigh-in.
Like, it's not one of those things where you can go to crazy lengths
and then just hope to recover the next day or so. No. And thompson rebroke one of her bench world records yeah which was right
around like 3 14 and it looked really easy it did look really easy like she could have done probably
five more pounds that's what i like looking at that it seemed like yeah there's 320 in the tank
there and so i'm sure she'll just keep chipping that over the next well and that's what i think
she's doing like she's just like i just want to break a world record every time so why break it by five
i mean yeah keep that momentum going why not why not uh no one's close to her so it's not like
she's worrying about someone else uh and then i saw marissa in uh yep she ended up getting second
i believe i it sounded like she had a tough time on squats. I think she hit her first one, and then second one, I believe, got called on depth,
and then third sounded like it just wasn't there at all.
Yeah, and then I think her last, I don't think she got her last deadlift either.
Yeah, so, I mean, it could have just been an off day for her, you know.
It's hard to say with all that, especially when there's travel involved.
Luckily, it's only to Canada, so it's nothing too major.
But, yeah, that always adds a another factor to it um was it jennifer milliken i believe was a
champion from america i that's at one of the lightest weights i think i kind of lose track
of what all the women's weights are but yeah they're all pretty light i think most of them
are under 300 pounds if i remember correctly so i kind of lose track i think jen's
i think 63 kilos yeah that sounds about right this isn't 50 like 52 or 54 or something something
there maybe that maybe that jen's in the one up from that like if i think there's like a
is there a 50 and one in between like a 57 i think so that's something like such low numbers
they are yeah yeah yeah um so ray will I think he's, does he lift Sunday?
Yeah, I think the big boys are Sunday after, or Sunday after, I think like 2 p.m. or something like that.
So what Ray told me when I asked him when we were at the Arnold this year, I said.
He said it's money time.
Well, he did say it's always money time.
I asked him when we're going to see the 500 kilogram squat and just a pair of knee sleeves
and he said that's his goal for ipf worlds and he said i give you my word yeah i'm a man of my
word tanner if he doesn't do it he is a liar you made him sign a contract yeah so there's a lot on
the line here right now that's steak um, that would be really awesome to see because, I mean, what's it,
one other person has touched that?
Yeah.
And that's in wraps.
Yeah.
So he's light years ahead of everyone else.
And I don't think Ray calls his own attempts.
I think someone else calls his for him.
So if it's not there, I'm sure they're not going to give it to him.
Yes.
But if he is on a good day i bet we're gonna see it attempted and
and i would put this out there that if we see it attempted we're gonna see it happen because like
yeah he just i think he's only had one miss no he had one miss in like the last three years or
something right and i think part of that is a very good attempt selection you know that they're not
picking weights that he can't do so if they if they call for 500 kilograms on his third, I bet that means he's going to get it.
The only person that even comes close to hanging with him in squat is that Jezza Uepa or whatever.
Yeah, and he can't lift.
And he can't lift because of the whole Robert Wilkes, Oceana, Australia powerlifting fallout.
So everyone that was involved, like that whole federation got kicked out of the ipf
and so like everyone that was involved over there kind of had to do some scrambling to
to make things work and i i'm assuming whatever group he was a part of just
there's a lot of politics this that i don't know all of them but somehow it didn't work and i that
sounds like that's the reason he couldn't make it on that note i don't know the details of this i
wonder if either of you do you both know kimberly walford yep um she's not no longer competing in the ipf and usapl yep and there's
some controversy there but i don't know what it is do you i i don't know what that is either i
haven't looked hard enough into that one someone message message me and tell me what the details
are on that because yeah that'd be good to know i didn't know if it was like well because has she
she hasn't been even lifting in other federations, has she?
She just started.
She's doing USPA now, I think.
Okay.
She was lifting at the meet that Dimitar did.
Okay.
Because there's a picture of Les Keys from Alabama.
Yep, yep.
That's right.
Like giving her chalk or nose torque or something.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I don't know what the deal is.
It's like so much of that stuff. There's so much weird stuff stuff that goes on it just gets hard to keep track of all of it but
i mean a lot of it is actually it is actually in that and then uh another weight class men's
that'll be interesting to watch is uh bryce lewis's well i mean just even before that like
the 83s where you have Russell Ory and Brett Gibbs.
I can't even remember the other guy's name right now.
I think he's actually the favorite.
I cannot think of it, but that'll be
a really fun one to watch.
And then you go up to
like 93s. I'm not sure who's
in 93s, like big names.
But then once you get up to the 105s
when you have Bryce Lewis, that Bryce guy
from Canada.
Garrett Blevins. That Mr. Deadlift. but then once you get up to the 105s when you have bryce lewis that bryce guy from canada and then uh garrett blevins garrett blevins that uh mr deadlift uh from was it poland yeah christoph weisberski or sure i'm just murdering that name but um you know i think he's unofficially
pulled 400 kilos before or it's it's right in that area if he hasn't so um if you can do it like on a on a world stage like that's pretty nuts so and the 120 class dennis cornelius isn't in it so i don't know
yeah i have no idea who's left there and then that's it just me and then the biggest yeah you
have ray williams which i mean it's just kind of a he's assuming he doesn't just fall apart yeah
assuming he doesn't die he wins that
and then you have like the um kelly um branton yeah from canada i mean he's a big boy he's crazy
strong too but yeah yeah but yeah maybe this uh joseph pena in the next few years will uh
he's gotten 2 000 pounds there was another junior i think super heavyweight or either 120 or super heavyweight not from
america that had a really big total too that he did lifted like 820 yeah yeah yeah i think he was
from it was a great britain yes yeah yeah i can't remember his name he's either 18 or 19 and pulled
like 820 or 840 i thought he like set the total yeah he had think his total was like 2,190 something because he's like,
yeah, next meet I'm getting 2,200.
It's got to be super heavyweight, right?
No, 120s.
Oh.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's insanely strong.
I saw that and just straight up 800 and whatever pole conventional
and it didn't look hard at all.
I have to ask since we've
been talking about ipf so much and they use you know a stiff bar of some kind do you guys think
it makes a difference on deadlift to use a to use a stiff bar compared to a deadlift bar uh i i don't
deadlift enough to actually have an input and i don't even know if you could truly say i don't
know if once you start deadlift i don't know if you can have a real input on it until you really start deadlifting like over 800 pounds but yeah
no i just saw a really interesting thing that uh johnny can i actually i actually like that
i like that a lot did you have to scroll back to it 30 times to read it on his story okay did you
know this on instagram you just hold your finger on it and pause it no that's good to know though
and it gets rid of all the stuff around it. Great.
I didn't know.
Well, I first found that out a year ago.
I didn't know it for my first several months of using the story feature.
But, yeah, for everyone listening, if you hold your finger on an Instagram story, it just stops it right there. That would have been very useful in that case.
But his point, though.
That actually still might even be up here
I'll see if I can find it quick
there's a lot of different factors that depend
on how much the
whippy bar will affect you
like how much an Anoki
deadlift bar or Texas deadlift bar or
Rogue Ohio deadlift bar how much that
can help and
it's just a few things in a nutshell a sumo deadlifter it's
going to help more than a conventional deadlifter because one thing your grip is narrower the
narrower your grip on top of that you can cheat your grip in even more you know because the narrow
narrower your grip the more it's going to be effective yeah there's the smaller thing about
like hook grip having to do with it his whole thing his whole thing was just talking about um
basically he was doing the the whole um um woke wokest you know mind exploding galaxy thing
and his his top level was uh he was referring to this russian lifter who um super wide because i they're using a deadlift bar, so you can get a wider stance already.
They're using a super whippy bar.
He's cheating his grip in really far so that there's that maximum leverage on the bar.
And then on top of that, they're using the thick plates.
So, you know, by the time he has all the weight off the ground, he's almost locked out already.
By the time he has all the weight off the ground, he's almost locked out already.
And so in the case of that, he's saying how this guy is getting,
I can't even remember what he said, if he got 20% out of it or something,
but that kind of is the ultimate level of deadlift.
I think generally it's like anything, you have to get used to it for it to be effective because I think my first times using a deadlift bar I don't think it yeah it was not
helpful whatsoever and at this point after training with it for a lot I'm not right now but after
you know that was primarily what I trained with going back to a stiff bar felt harder than yeah
and I actually probably think probably under 600 pounds the biggest difference on a deadlift bar
is maybe a little speed off the floor but also the feel in the hand they're typically smaller
around that's what you which that is the most apparent one right away when you're using it
is that this feels like i can grip it easier yep and whether that actually makes it easier to hang
on to or not i don't know what that answer is but it feels like you have your hand around it better
that's the most noticeable thing for me too i think and especially if you hook grip i think that makes hook gripping a lot easier when it's a
smaller diameter like that yeah but uh kind of i mean we talk about it all the time but kind of
interesting thing about worlds is you it's almost everyone i mean yeah just about everyone under
like that 120 so that 260 pound class they're pretty much just sumo deadlifting like
exclusively it's you don't see hardly anyone pulling conventional and there's there's always
a few there's always a few it's easier there's out there's there's always a few outliers but
man it's like i don't know do girls even pull conventional i think marissa inda does i don't
know off the top of my head anyone else i again i don't follow it super close so i'm not the authority but um same thing with the guys like
you see a ton of sumo poles like i think it also goes ties back to the height thing too though
most of those people are not over six feet tall uh that brings up something else that uh we did a little survey where i uh sent out a questionnaire to 50
of the top u.s raw power lifters and that included about uh what i'll be told when answers came back
there's um about 20 women and 30 men and the largest uh federation that that consisted of was USPA.
Second largest was USAPL.
And they're a total of 10 different federations.
The weight classes from women, I had someone in almost every weight class from like 97 pounds to super heavyweight.
And men, same way, down to like the 115, I think.
Whatever that small is.
All the way to super heavyweight so a really good
mix and one of the questions in there was just sumo or conventional and i haven't released the
answers for that one yet but uh it's top secret it's getting computed it's getting the numbers
getting crunched in the lab as we speak i even it was eight eight questions that we asked so it was sumo or conventional raised or heat or flat
shoes for squatting what's your favorite barbell uh monolift or combo rack yeah
who's the greatest power lifter ever who's the greatest female power lifter right now who's the
greatest male power lifter right now and i's the greatest male powerlifter right now?
And I'm forgetting one in there, but there was eight of them.
Those are the hard-hitting questions.
Yeah, and the only one that we put out there so far, the results of,
was who's the greatest powerlifter of all time.
And Ed Cohn was voted on by 64% to that.
Who would have seen that coming?
pretty resounding by 64 to that no who would have seen that coming uh the next highest answer was who was the next highest answer um it was brad castleberry uh actually was it milanichev was
yeah it was yeah it was milanichev and then the there was someone else that had a few boats and
then that was spread out between like who was the was it was he the japanese lifter yeah i had never heard of him yeah i'm no i'm no historian of the
sport but i was not familiar with him and i think he came from olympic weightlifting and powerlifting
and and then ray williams stan efforting uh there's a few guys in there like paul anderson
i think with some level like ray i think it'll just be a time thing where it'll... Yeah, but so the
people that answered the
surveys are the best
powerlifters in the world.
Well, who decided that, though?
Yeah, and actually
I utilized open
powerlifting. I looked at every
weight class and tried to... So this was pretty
objective, actually. Yeah, I tried to
ask the best
american so you went through and found the ones with the most followers and they were considered
the best no there's actually yeah yeah and actually there was some people in there that
i didn't know who they were and they had like less than 500 followers but they were the best
best in their weight class yeah yeah in yeah. You know, in that category.
So it, but also the, some of the best in the world that everyone knows are in there too,
you know, like Brandon Allen, Dan Bell, Ray Williams, you know.
Yes, yeah.
All the big names and almost everyone responded too, which that was pretty cool.
Yeah.
But we'll keep releasing those and it
doesn't mean anything but it's kind of interesting to see like a poll of the community yeah yeah and
the best people too you know seeing what they who they like uh do you have any guesses on who
they say the best i won't tell the answer you but you just say your guesses of
yeah the best current female and the best current male.
Best current female would be, I mean, I would probably say now that CeCe Holcomb.
Is that how you say her last name?
I mean, right now she is.
Someone beat her Wilks score.
Oh, did they really already?
Oh, yeah.
Is she like that Russian lady or something?
Yeah, I only know that because when I was looking through this, I was like, what the hell?
Someone else already beat that Wilks score. i did see that um i don't know like because i would say you have
to say they're the best but also they haven't been around very long so like is it just a fluke thing
where they had like one or two good meets or are they just going to keep crushing it for a while
um i'm just going to stick with cc for now probably because i think she's still really young i don't
know enough about the other lady to comment on that pulled 600 or whatever in the okay yeah
yeah definitely i mean that's insane how about how about men's best man yeah you got to go with
either milanichev or belkin for current yeah I don't know
maybe like a Larry Wheels
also
yeah I think he just needs more time
I think his squat isn't there enough to put him in the best of all time
right
I mean he definitely has a world class
physique
yeah absolutely
but his
his bench is world class and his deadlift is, I mean,
it's about as world-class.
I mean, it's going to be crushing records pretty soon here.
He still just has a ways to go, and he's already so good.
Yeah, I think it's just a time thing with him,
but Uri Belkin is just, I think, routinely going 4 for 9 at meets
and just making everyone else look like clowns.
What's his biggest deadlift?
970?
Yeah, 970.
Yeah, those are good responses.
I won't spoil the surprise, so stay tuned on our Instagram page.
Yeah, keep watching those on the Instagram page.
And also, the world has responded and said they love the Masonomics Versus.
Give us more, we can't get enough but a new feature added in has been the massonomics lifting legend so for those of you who uh kind of want to know a little history of the sport buffs out there
for those of you history buffs out there uh i would recommend checking out those posts because
uh because i i'm really enjoying them brad gillingham. So far, I believe Brad Gillingham had the honor of being the first.
Brad's a personal favorite of ours, of course.
Yeah, absolutely.
If you listen to the podcast, you know that.
Tommy and I got to go lift with him there one time, which was awesome.
We should do that again.
Anyone that knows Brad, he's a person that people only say the best things about him
you know like so so it only made sense that he was the first one um after that who is the next
one we had uh was it paul uh i haven't done paul anderson is actually on the way okay okay you
didn't do him yet you did that other he is done but it just hasn't been out yet. Odie Wilson.
Yeah, I knew Odie Wilson.
Yeah, which he is a real freak.
What did it say?
26 size shoe.
Shoe size 26.
Was that allegedly?
And ring size 23.
Which is insane.
Yeah, and quads at 42 inches.
And he died unexpectedly at age 37 he was uh eating at a diner or doing something in
wherever the hell he was at and said he had chest pains and walked outside and and that's how i died
wow and at age 37 but the man was huge so and then the other one was bruce wilhelm yes and had
you heard that i was not familiar with him, no. No. Nope.
But he, well, he won the first two ever World's Strongest Men.
And that's what I think is really cool. Before Kaz was.
That's what I think is really cool about those old time ones is that those guys were just
strong across the board.
They didn't know, yeah.
It wasn't like.
There was not much technique there.
It wasn't like, nope, I just squat.
It's like, no, I will like manhandle this barbell.
I'll clean and jerk.
There really wasn't much much to study to
like uh even i mean they were just good though yeah they're just strong and like it kind of
makes me think of um um um uh cochlea of mikhail mikhail yeah how he's just you know he's done
powerlifting he's done olympic lifting he's done strongman like you don't see a lot of people good
one for yeah you don't you don't you don't see a lot of people like in multiple disciplines like that anymore yeah he'd
be a good one to but watch out for paul anderson he's coming to coming to and of course eventually
we'll mix in people like kaz and eddie cone and you know just to see some actual everyone knows
that those guys are great but to see the some of the big statistics is still fun yeah fun to look
at and then we've still been rolling on the Massonomics versus, of course.
We had the last one here was Gina Halfwolf versus Teen Wolf.
And then we had also this week.
Naturally.
Then we had Johnny Candido versus Johnny Manziel were the most recent ones.
I like that one.
And then I had to bust out the uh forsaken warrior versus the gold state warriors
some of that timely hard-hitting meme action and that got a lot better reception than the first
time around about tenfold hey you know what uh i believe mike jones said it best back then
didn't want me now hot holes all on me sure did he certainly had to do it too
ryan as long as you're here uh r has made a couple hard-hitting memes for Massonomics before.
What do you look for in a good meme?
I usually just go, like, the one Vince McMahon one.
Like, I had seen that format so many times.
You've got to have an eye out for what's trendy.
Yeah, everybody likes Vince McMahon.
Well, maybe not like, but everybody knows, is aware of Vince McMahon.
And acknowledges, can tip their hat at a Vince McMahon.
Yeah, and just having something funny with him on it always responds well with people.
And powerlifting, obviously wrestling, is a huge...
The sister sport.
Yeah, exactly.
So I was like, oh.
Literally just thought of the first thing that came to my head
and it was it went over pretty well i thought that was one of our most ever viewed videos i
think it was probably like our third most ever viewed video on instagram so to like i don't
know like 20 000 views within a week or something like that which i was like okay whatever no man like most watched video now is
still a repost of uh bud jeffrey is walking through his life that blows my mind that's
number one i mean that's cool it's obviously really but like when we have like the ray
williams deadlift one and we have also the half thor deadlift one we broke the story on half thor
breaking the debt like we had that posted within seconds of it it happening and
uh but no it's people don't care about things like that they want to see stuff on fire they
want theatrics yeah and that's it yeah it is almost shocking sometimes at what goes over well
and what what doesn't yeah but no that's probably about enough to for today then don't you think we
covered all the all the highest of the high points.
Would tease for next time we could probably talk about the return of the
return of the massonomic strongman showdown.
I think we'll see that.
Allegedly.
Yeah, allegedly.
That's the rumor on the street.
But we could probably
spend a whole episode talking about that so yeah maybe we'll just do that yeah for sure
um otherwise what does tyler usually talk about he tells you to uh go like our facebook page we
put out everything that we do all the articles and stuff that come out we throw out on facebook
uh professor sean's did just put out an article here recently and uh i think he's working on a few other things so uh be on the lookout for
that this one was about um basically about diets and how it's not the diet itself that's so important
as just like establishing your routine and making it convenient uh and making it something that you're going to be
able to repeat over time otherwise it's just bullshit that's not going to stick with you
yep uh so like us on facebook and find that stuff uh go to the massonomic website and go to the
bottom of the page and you can subscribe to our newsletter uh we send out uh whenever we got
new articles out and whenever we got new gear to buy. And we do have some new stuff that's going to be coming soon.
So get subscribed when you can to get first dibs on the new stuff when it comes out.
Don't want to miss it.
And then head over to the store and wait for our new stuff to come,
but also buy the current stuff that we got there.
We got number one most selling item ever in Mastodonomics history is that shirt that Tommy's wearing right there.
Then that hat that he's wearing is also a popular item so it happens to say the same thing on it is
lift and tanner has a ultra exclusive on him yeah you can't buy this one unless you uh
yeah yeah unless you know a thing yeah but head over to the site and buy some of that stuff we'd
be happy to sell it to you and send it to you uh i think that's about
it maybe then just our ig handles i'm uh tanner i run the massonomics instagram page at massonomics
i'm tommy you can follow me at tomahawk underscore d and i'm ryan you can find me at flying ryan
underscore d and your grinder i I went off off the
Getting into too much trouble?
Yeah, catching a little too much heat.
All right.
Getting those boys crazy.
All right.
Thanks, everyone.
We'll see you next time.
